- 0:19Speaker 1: And welcome in.
- 0:19Speaker 2: It is Jaggs am j P. Shadrick in for Kai Stevens.
- 0:23Speaker 2: She'll be back with us next week. Brian Sexton and
- 0:25Speaker 2: John Osier coming up. Oh, it's been a quiet few
- 0:29Speaker 2: dead weeks around the organization.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Not at all. Let's get right into the big things.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Starting with head coach Liam Cohen announced by owner Shodkom.
- 0:39Speaker 3: When we interview ten remarkable candidates for the positions, two
- 0:46Speaker 3: things became clear to me. Number one that this wasn't
- 0:51Speaker 3: a moment of regret for the Jacksonville Jaguars. This was
- 0:55Speaker 3: a moment of progress, optimism and confidence. We will achieve
- 1:01Speaker 3: the ultimate goal as long as we have the right man.
- 1:06Speaker 3: And number two, that man was Liam Cohen.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well here from Liam Cohen coming up, Brian Sexton. But boy,
- 1:16Speaker 2: what a whirlwind it was after the first round of interviews,
- 1:19Speaker 2: a change in the GM spot.
- 1:21Speaker 1: But they got their man and Liam Cohen they.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Did, and it felt like they didn't crack the glass
- 1:25Speaker 4: ceiling or go through the glass ceiling. It felt like
- 1:28Speaker 4: they shattered it. That they blew it up. John. You know,
- 1:31Speaker 4: they had had a clean sweep with a general manager
- 1:33Speaker 4: and a coach both coming in at the same time,
- 1:35Speaker 4: since since Dave Caldwell and Guss in twenty thirteen. And
- 1:39Speaker 4: I don't even know where to go with this one
- 1:40Speaker 4: other than I look at this coach differently than a
- 1:43Speaker 4: lot because this is what I like to call that
- 1:46Speaker 4: hedge fund coach, the data driven, super aggressive, turn conventional
- 1:50Speaker 4: wisdom on their ear, kind of young coach that the
- 1:53Speaker 4: Jaguars really have never had. Not to say that he
- 1:55Speaker 4: doesn't have some old school coach and him his father
- 1:58Speaker 4: was a coach, But this guy short of breaks the
- 2:00Speaker 4: paradigm that the Draguars have had yet.
- 2:03Speaker 5: I think what I like is to your point, Brian,
- 2:06Speaker 5: he looks new school in the sense that he's young
- 2:10Speaker 5: and he's got that energy. But when he talks football,
- 2:13Speaker 5: he talks old school. He talks the running game, he
- 2:14Speaker 5: talks to the lines. I was kind of laughing during
- 2:18Speaker 5: that week when they lead up to hire Cone JP,
- 2:21Speaker 5: because everybody was all worried about this day and the
- 2:26Speaker 5: Bucks and all this stuff, Get your guy. And two
- 2:31Speaker 5: weeks later, is anybody even really talking about that stuff
- 2:35Speaker 5: that went on. No, they're talking about the Jaguars getting
- 2:38Speaker 5: their guy and they're moving on. So all that stuff
- 2:40Speaker 5: is very much in the past. The future is Liam
- 2:42Speaker 5: Cohene and there's a lot here to be excited about,
- 2:46Speaker 5: and we'll see where that excitement takes us.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Well, get to obviously a young guy, we've talked about that,
- 2:52Speaker 2: We'll get to the youth movement on his staff coming
- 2:54Speaker 2: up a little bit later as well.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Big thing number.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Two today, Tony Vaselli is the executive vice president of
- 3:01Speaker 2: Football Operations.
- 3:02Speaker 1: The announcement.
- 3:05Speaker 6: Today Seagkhan made my dream come true and I'm ready
- 3:09Speaker 6: to get to work. Next step is finding our general
- 3:12Speaker 6: manager and that work is already underwinning.
- 3:16Speaker 4: I was the first pick in franchise history. It's not
- 3:19Speaker 4: just a job, it's my passion.
- 3:22Speaker 6: And I am so excited to be a part of
- 3:24Speaker 6: the team that brings the first championship.
- 3:27Speaker 2: To do all all right, John Oser Baselly is in
- 3:32Speaker 2: the decision process.
- 3:33Speaker 4: Now.
- 3:33Speaker 1: It's got to be a great thing.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Yeah, And all three of us know Tony, and I
- 3:37Speaker 5: think what's cool about this is not only do we
- 3:39Speaker 5: three know Tony. I think most Jaguars fans who watch
- 3:44Speaker 5: the shows and who are uber passionate about it feel
- 3:48Speaker 5: like they know Tony or they've probably met Tony, so
- 3:51Speaker 5: they know what he's about but even beyond that, Brian,
- 3:53Speaker 5: you know we're gonna talk so much about this.
- 3:55Speaker 7: There's many points to get with Tony.
- 3:57Speaker 5: But the guy they're hiring is not that guy you're
- 4:01Speaker 5: seeing on the screen. Meaning there's a passion to him,
- 4:05Speaker 5: and yes, that's what it's all about.
- 4:06Speaker 7: But as much as I.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Tease Tony, this is a sharp guy who knows how
- 4:13Speaker 5: to communicate, who knows how to bridge build if you will.
- 4:18Speaker 7: He has a vision. He can help Liam with that vision.
- 4:22Speaker 5: And as much as Liam Conbrian, I'm excited about what
- 4:28Speaker 5: Tony can bring in terms of the passion for the
- 4:31Speaker 5: organization and helping Liam get his message across.
- 4:33Speaker 4: You know, I'm excited about Liam Cohen. But there's some
- 4:36Speaker 4: uncertainty there right a first time head coach, a young
- 4:39Speaker 4: guy stepping into a new role. There's no uncertainty with
- 4:42Speaker 4: Tony Boselli. He and I first started talking about him
- 4:45Speaker 4: taking a bigger role in the organization when way we've
- 4:47Speaker 4: ruled it right after he came back in two thousand
- 4:50Speaker 4: and six, and he had to work over the last
- 4:53Speaker 4: nineteen years through a variety of different functions, whether it
- 4:56Speaker 4: was ticketing and public relations, the radio, television, stuff that
- 4:59Speaker 4: he's done. I sent him a text message the morning
- 5:01Speaker 4: that they announced it, saying, congratulations. Patience pays off for
- 5:06Speaker 4: good people. This is a great person and he is
- 5:09Speaker 4: going to do incredible things. I believe that to the
- 5:12Speaker 4: very core of my being because a I know him
- 5:15Speaker 4: and I know what he's about. But you can't help
- 5:17Speaker 4: John and JP but feel his passion, his connection to
- 5:21Speaker 4: this franchise which goes deeper than.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Most and no more happy hour Monday. What in the
- 5:26Speaker 2: world is that about? Number three on the Big Things today?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Personnel departments next, DM interviews are underway as we speak.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And we mentioned Lea and Colem. We'll hear from him
- 5:37Speaker 1: right now.
- 5:38Speaker 2: It takes organizational synergy at the top.
- 5:42Speaker 1: Starts with communication.
- 5:44Speaker 8: It starts with the alignment and communication at every level
- 5:49Speaker 8: right building first and foremost the best staff that we
- 5:52Speaker 8: can build, because it's like I mentioned, it's about these guys.
- 5:56Speaker 8: So how do we put the best coaches in place
- 6:00Speaker 8: to help these players reach their full abilities? Okay, now
- 6:04Speaker 8: with the front office, how do we continue to build
- 6:07Speaker 8: there and get this thing fully in alignment so that
- 6:10Speaker 8: then when we go into the off season program we're
- 6:13Speaker 8: all on the same page. We all understand the vision
- 6:16Speaker 8: and the goal.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Rian.
- 6:19Speaker 2: He also referenced to building he was in out in
- 6:21Speaker 2: LA with the RAMS and you just feel it it
- 6:23Speaker 2: oozed out of that organization. Just everybody working together, and.
- 6:27Speaker 1: That's what they're going to be looking for next TM.
- 6:29Speaker 4: Yeah, you think about the names, right, If people have
- 6:31Speaker 4: asked me, what do you think of the names? It
- 6:33Speaker 4: really doesn't matter, not that the person doesn't matter, but
- 6:37Speaker 4: most people don't know the name less need. There's the
- 6:39Speaker 4: GM out there in LA. We do here because he
- 6:41Speaker 4: was here back in the early days. Who is the
- 6:43Speaker 4: general manager that operated with Bill Belichick in New England.
- 6:48Speaker 4: Most people can't tell you that. The various names, And
- 6:50Speaker 4: of course in Kansas City you've got a GM that
- 6:52Speaker 4: works with Andy Reid. That's the structure that's being build here.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Someone is going to come in who's very qualified and
- 6:59Speaker 4: work to build and bring the players to the table
- 7:02Speaker 4: that Liam Colin wants. You want to talk about synergy,
- 7:06Speaker 4: What better than to have a GM who works for
- 7:08Speaker 4: the coach, who tells him exactly what he wants, and
- 7:11Speaker 4: the GM goes to produce. I'm excited about the new structure.
- 7:14Speaker 5: Yeah, Shod has talked probably since the Urban Meyer higher
- 7:19Speaker 5: of wanting an organization that's coach centric. I think it
- 7:22Speaker 5: was therb of my hier, but it feels like about
- 7:24Speaker 5: that long he's been working toward trying to get that
- 7:27Speaker 5: in place. And I think what Tony and what Shad
- 7:30Speaker 5: said when they were talking about the changes, these guys
- 7:36Speaker 5: are here to support Liam Cohen's vision, and I think
- 7:39Speaker 5: that is what Tony will excel at. It's hard, there's
- 7:44Speaker 5: you're going to interview nine to ten guys for GM.
- 7:47Speaker 5: It's hard to know what the detail that hire will
- 7:50Speaker 5: because it hasn't happened yet. But I do believe that
- 7:52Speaker 5: it will be somebody who's in lockstep with the organization
- 7:57Speaker 5: and with what Coen and Vicelli want going forward. And
- 8:00Speaker 5: I think we'll see in a couple of weeks talking
- 8:02Speaker 5: about details of that movie.
- 8:04Speaker 2: All right, guys, we are back in the Hyundai studios
- 8:06Speaker 2: after a hiatus. We're back in a moment though with
- 8:10Speaker 2: a look at that youth movement. You saw the staff,
- 8:12Speaker 2: the coaching staff on the screen, the youth movement underneath
- 8:15Speaker 2: Liam Cohen. That's next on jags Am.
- 8:23Speaker 8: How do we want to play the game? And that's
- 8:26Speaker 8: fast fundamentally sound, attacking, situational masters and tough both mentally
- 8:35Speaker 8: and physically. You see players in the room right here,
- 8:39Speaker 8: guys that I've had conversations with already. It will always
- 8:43Speaker 8: be about you, always it is players over plays. How
- 8:49Speaker 8: do we make this as much about the players and
- 8:52Speaker 8: making this about bringing out the best in you.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That's what this is about.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Welcome back, It's Jags Am Jaguars foot well presented by
- 9:00Speaker 2: Fresh from Florida.
- 9:01Speaker 1: It's always in season.
- 9:03Speaker 2: JP Shadwick in for Kay Stevens, Bryan Sexson, John Osier
- 9:07Speaker 2: with us and a lot of good things heard from
- 9:09Speaker 2: the head coach and his opening press conference, the idea
- 9:13Speaker 2: of being a fast team. He went through all the
- 9:15Speaker 2: scenarios there, all about the players and.
- 9:18Speaker 1: Kind of sets the tone.
- 9:19Speaker 2: And then his next priority was, of course filling out
- 9:22Speaker 2: his coaching staff, and he didn't spend too much time
- 9:25Speaker 2: and they were thorough about it, but went through and
- 9:28Speaker 2: got some guys in here quickly. But the youth movement continues. Yes,
- 9:32Speaker 2: Liam Cohen himself is thirty nine, defensive coordinators forty two,
- 9:37Speaker 2: the offensive coordinators twenty nine.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think the average age of the staff.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Is like forty two and a half years old, and
- 9:43Speaker 2: that's kind of the new era in the NFL.
- 9:45Speaker 4: You know, I don't know what the people realize, but
- 9:47Speaker 4: the most important question in interviews in many cases isn't
- 9:51Speaker 4: the style you're gonna run, it's who you're gonna bring. Right,
- 9:54Speaker 4: one of the things that owners want to know is
- 9:56Speaker 4: what is your staff going to look like? And clearly
- 9:59Speaker 4: Shad impressed when he laid out what he wanted that young,
- 10:04Speaker 4: aggressive mindset, not anchored to Well, this guy has been
- 10:09Speaker 4: twenty seven years in the league and he's coached this,
- 10:11Speaker 4: there and there. He has built a staff of idea
- 10:14Speaker 4: guys that fit the ideas that he wants to bring.
- 10:18Speaker 5: Look, there's a movement in the NFL lately to go
- 10:21Speaker 5: younger coaches, and I think what caused a little bit
- 10:24Speaker 5: is the coaches know who they want.
- 10:28Speaker 4: They they know.
- 10:29Speaker 5: Who's going to be a good coach. Meaning these guys
- 10:33Speaker 5: talk and it Grant Yudinsky, everybody in Minnesota, everybody around
- 10:37Speaker 5: the league knows that this guy at some point very
- 10:41Speaker 5: soon might be the next Sean McVay, right, might be
- 10:45Speaker 5: the guy who's going to get a job when he's
- 10:46Speaker 5: thirty three or thirty four. That's the feeling on the guy.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Same with Anthony Campanio the defensive coordinator, Same with Liam
- 10:52Speaker 5: Cohne to a point, so if you know these guys
- 10:56Speaker 5: are on that track, you better hire him when you can,
- 11:01Speaker 5: because I don't think Sean wants to hire a new
- 11:03Speaker 5: coach next year to go hire these guys when you're
- 11:05Speaker 5: a year older. So I think they wanted to get
- 11:07Speaker 5: these talented guys here in the building, and I'm excited
- 11:11Speaker 5: about him. I'm particularly excited to meet Grant Yadinsky. I
- 11:13Speaker 5: don't care that he's twenty nine. Everything you hear about
- 11:15Speaker 5: him is that he is next level in terms of organization, motivation,
- 11:20Speaker 5: all those things. I like the feel of this staff,
- 11:23Speaker 5: mainly because when I talked to Anthony Campaneely, he said,
- 11:28Speaker 5: basically play calling all that stuff. He said, everything else
- 11:33Speaker 5: is bs. It's about the players, dude. I love that Brian.
- 11:37Speaker 4: That's the old school side of him. I had more
- 11:39Speaker 4: high school football coaches that I have relationships with here.
- 11:41Speaker 4: Ask me if I could get an introduction to campanilely
- 11:45Speaker 4: because he's a legend and his brothers are legends in
- 11:48Speaker 4: New Jersey in the Catholic high school league up there.
- 11:51Speaker 4: So I mean, he has gone and found guys that
- 11:53Speaker 4: are both young and aggressive. And I think one of
- 11:57Speaker 4: the things that's so appealing to about this, right the quarterback,
- 12:01Speaker 4: the cap situation, the draft picks the facility. The owner
- 12:04Speaker 4: is the coach, right, Not every coach can attract the staff.
- 12:07Speaker 4: That's exactly like this, bright and young, young, strong.
- 12:12Speaker 2: First impressions matter though, so the first time they're in
- 12:15Speaker 2: front of the football team, it whether it's defense, offense,
- 12:18Speaker 2: whatever side of the ball you want to go to. Well,
- 12:20Speaker 2: you know, we find out after the fact later that
- 12:22Speaker 2: some of those early interactions of the previous regime, especially
- 12:27Speaker 2: on the defensive side, well that that didn't go so well.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And I kind of carried over.
- 12:31Speaker 5: John, here's what matters as much as that players just
- 12:36Speaker 5: like us. You know, if if we had a new boss,
- 12:39Speaker 5: what's the first thing we would do. I'd be texting
- 12:41Speaker 5: somebody who knows this guy and say, Hey, what's going
- 12:43Speaker 5: on here?
- 12:45Speaker 7: What do we got?
- 12:45Speaker 4: Right?
- 12:46Speaker 5: My understanding is when players were texting around about these guys,
- 12:52Speaker 5: the response was you're gonna let these guys, And that
- 12:55Speaker 5: is what matters because other players know these are guys
- 12:59Speaker 5: you want to follow, These are guys you want to
- 13:00Speaker 5: be around. These guys are gonna treat you well. I'm
- 13:03Speaker 5: optimistic about that, and I think the players are too.
- 13:07Speaker 5: Once they get in front of the room, you got
- 13:08Speaker 5: to command the room and all that. In the end, Brian,
- 13:11Speaker 5: this is a two.
- 13:11Speaker 7: Notch question to me.
- 13:12Speaker 5: Okay, Liam and a Campanella find he's gonna do what
- 13:17Speaker 5: he's gonna do.
- 13:18Speaker 7: I like the guy who met him. Can you Dnsky
- 13:21Speaker 7: and Co? And get two more notches out of Trevor?
- 13:24Speaker 4: Oh?
- 13:24Speaker 7: If that's the case, they could be named it. Yes,
- 13:26Speaker 7: they could be eight years old. I don't care.
- 13:28Speaker 4: Yeah, No, listen, that's the question, right. You can talk
- 13:31Speaker 4: about the scheme and listen. What Campanilli is going to
- 13:34Speaker 4: bring with him is some of the Green Bay Packers
- 13:38Speaker 4: scheme last year. And if you talked to Jeff Loghman
- 13:40Speaker 4: and Tony Bucelli about that scheme, they said on game
- 13:43Speaker 4: day this is a really good scheme, of really player
- 13:48Speaker 4: specific scheme. So I'm excited about that. However, this whole
- 13:52Speaker 4: thing rests on Liam Cohen getting the most out of
- 13:56Speaker 4: the franchise quarterback. That's the key to success on Sundays,
- 14:01Speaker 4: That's the key to the franchise rising to the level
- 14:04Speaker 4: that this owner has desired it to be since he
- 14:06Speaker 4: bought it. Now is the time you can't waste any more.
- 14:09Speaker 4: You've got to get this quarterback to plague to his
- 14:13Speaker 4: potential to be his best. And the thought is that
- 14:16Speaker 4: this coaching staff's going to get there.
- 14:17Speaker 5: And that's the key to the Yudansky higher. You know,
- 14:20Speaker 5: he's not gonna call plays. But in Minnesota, this was
- 14:24Speaker 5: the guy that young quarterbacks went to.
- 14:27Speaker 7: JJ McCarthy.
- 14:29Speaker 5: There's a story in the Minnesota newspaper that I quote
- 14:32Speaker 5: you when I was writing about this. He would call
- 14:36Speaker 5: he would texted offense the coordinator, like eleven o'clock at
- 14:38Speaker 5: night and he got to go, hey, text Grant.
- 14:41Speaker 7: Right. So, this is a twenty eight year old kid at.
- 14:43Speaker 5: The time that his master of these things was such
- 14:48Speaker 5: that the coaches trusted him with the young guy. The
- 14:50Speaker 5: young guys gravitated to him.
- 14:53Speaker 7: That relationship with Trevor. I think it's gonna be fascinating
- 14:55Speaker 7: to wat.
- 14:55Speaker 4: When Sam Darnold had the best year of his career,
- 14:57Speaker 4: you can't ever look at her.
- 14:58Speaker 5: Right Baker Mayfield as well, So that if those guys
- 15:01Speaker 5: get that out of this guy, whoa that's the storyline.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Of me, well, who's the youngest coach with a statue
- 15:06Speaker 2: out front? I wonder you know that that's the question
- 15:08Speaker 2: we should be asking here.
- 15:10Speaker 1: Okay, if they get those two notches, who knows we
- 15:12Speaker 1: may be talking about that. Let's come back in a moment. Uh.
- 15:15Speaker 2: It's been a busy month for Jaguars players as well,
- 15:19Speaker 2: some guys heading out of the Pro Bowl and a
- 15:22Speaker 2: huge honor for a Jaguars defensive blind man. That's coming
- 15:25Speaker 2: up next, it's jaggs AA.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Attention music fans.
- 15:36Speaker 2: The twenty twenty five season Daily's play starts this month.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Getting ready for Rod Stewart, the Korrie for band, Teddy Swims,
- 15:42Speaker 2: April Levine, Shouldnaia Twain, and much more.
- 15:46Speaker 1: And we're just getting started.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Head to dailiesplace dot com now for tickets and show info.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Shouldn't I as coming John and Roll? Fantastic?
- 15:58Speaker 4: What did you just make that up on line?
- 16:00Speaker 7: I did not.
- 16:01Speaker 5: I was actually bag of my Episcol high school today.
- 16:05Speaker 5: I'll never forget.
- 16:06Speaker 7: The girls were crazy about Rod Stewart and.
- 16:08Speaker 5: Somebody had written on a little lot of whiteboard Rod
- 16:11Speaker 5: Stewart rad Rod.
- 16:12Speaker 4: Rules rock and Roll.
- 16:13Speaker 7: I remembered all these years later some reason. Now I
- 16:15Speaker 7: was second.
- 16:15Speaker 4: My month just rolled off.
- 16:16Speaker 2: It's a heck of a show. I'll say that he
- 16:18Speaker 2: was here, what he's been here the last few years.
- 16:20Speaker 5: Yeah, you can't be in my generation and not have
- 16:23Speaker 5: enjoyed a Rod Stewart's song every now.
- 16:25Speaker 2: It has been a busy month for Jaguars players. A
- 16:28Speaker 2: few guys to the Pro Bowl, of course, the specialist
- 16:31Speaker 2: logan cook Russ mattisic along snapper sent to Orlando in
- 16:36Speaker 2: the initial vote, and then the first alternate wide receiver
- 16:39Speaker 2: Brian Thomas Junior got the knot as well. Guys, And
- 16:42Speaker 2: you know, you can argue he should have been voted
- 16:44Speaker 2: in to begin with, but rookie tough to do that.
- 16:47Speaker 2: But he got his honors and made it a splash
- 16:50Speaker 2: and impact in the Pro Bowl games. A couple of
- 16:52Speaker 2: scores if you're into that. But it was good to
- 16:54Speaker 2: see him in that spotlight.
- 16:56Speaker 4: Watching him at the Pro Bowl. I did watch it.
- 17:00Speaker 4: It's amazing they got him at twenty three. Yeah, it's
- 17:02Speaker 4: amazing that they moved back twice and they added a
- 17:04Speaker 4: couple of picks and got him at twenty three. It
- 17:07Speaker 4: still star It just blows my mind that a talent
- 17:09Speaker 4: like that slid through because I he did so much
- 17:13Speaker 4: with Mac Jones, and Mac Jones doesn't have the arm
- 17:16Speaker 4: strength or the accuracy of a Trevor Lawrence. And you
- 17:19Speaker 4: look at the numbers that he put up this year, Fellas,
- 17:20Speaker 4: and you would think that if he had been with
- 17:22Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence all season long, those numbers might have been
- 17:25Speaker 4: much more significant. Nothing against Mac, it's just that Mac
- 17:27Speaker 4: doesn't have that skill set like Trevor does.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Pro Bowl alternate so to speak, We've all knew this
- 17:35Speaker 5: a long time. Sometimes guys get the.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Pro boll alternate like well, like a pro all deal.
- 17:40Speaker 5: He's never going again, or or it's like the third guy,
- 17:45Speaker 5: and sometimes pro bo alternate fixes and rights are wrong.
- 17:50Speaker 7: This was the case of the Ladder. I'm glad for
- 17:53Speaker 7: his sake.
- 17:54Speaker 5: That he got to go, because he deserved to go.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Nobody down there was looking around, going what's this guy
- 17:59Speaker 5: doing the Pro Bowl. It was like, oh, welcome, come
- 18:03Speaker 5: in join the club. Here, here's your room for the
- 18:07Speaker 5: next six years.
- 18:08Speaker 7: By the way, because this kid's special.
- 18:10Speaker 5: And also a shout out to Logan Cooking and I
- 18:14Speaker 5: Ross because they are guys.
- 18:17Speaker 7: Everybody with the Jaguars.
- 18:18Speaker 5: Who went deserved it this year, and it's good that
- 18:22Speaker 5: they will have that next to their name and the media.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Guys, remember they didn't throw the football to them the
- 18:26Speaker 2: first half of the season, so you mean think about that.
- 18:29Speaker 2: All that stuff was at the end. Yeah, everybody and
- 18:31Speaker 2: their brother knew where the football was going. Then NFL
- 18:35Speaker 2: Honors came along just before the Super Bowl and Eric Armstead,
- 18:39Speaker 2: Jaguars defensive lineman, named the Walter Payton NFL Man of
- 18:43Speaker 2: the Year's second Jaguar to receive the honor, Kalayis Campbell
- 18:46Speaker 2: got it.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Now.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Eric Armstead has it for his work in the community,
- 18:51Speaker 2: certainly earlier in his career in the Bay Area, but
- 18:53Speaker 2: now he's brought that over to Jacksonville as well.
- 18:55Speaker 4: This might not mean a lot to folks, but you know,
- 18:58Speaker 4: when Kalayis got the honor, right, the player who wins
- 19:03Speaker 4: it gets to wear a little patch on their uniform.
- 19:06Speaker 4: And I was sad that they had traded him because
- 19:08Speaker 4: that went to a purple uniform in Baltimore. I really
- 19:10Speaker 4: wanted to see that on the teal right. The Jaguars
- 19:14Speaker 4: have always going back to Missus Weaver in the early
- 19:17Speaker 4: days placed a huge emphasis on their players being involved
- 19:21Speaker 4: in the community. This being a smaller city where players
- 19:24Speaker 4: could be touched and they could be heard from and
- 19:26Speaker 4: you could see them and feel their presence. There was
- 19:29Speaker 4: always an emphasis on getting a Jaguar to be the
- 19:32Speaker 4: Walter Payton Man of the Year. And we've had some
- 19:34Speaker 4: very good candidates, they just didn't win the award. Well
- 19:39Speaker 4: for the first time, now you got a guy who
- 19:40Speaker 4: won it four times in San Francisco and came here
- 19:43Speaker 4: and was our nominee for it, and now we'll finally
- 19:46Speaker 4: see it. It means a little something to me to see
- 19:49Speaker 4: that on teal and I'm excited.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Look, the season didn't work out nearly on the field
- 19:53Speaker 5: the way that Eric Armstader or the Jaguars wanted it,
- 19:55Speaker 5: and a lot of fans there's always but Eric Armstair. Look,
- 20:01Speaker 5: whatever that was, it's a clean slate now moving forward
- 20:05Speaker 5: for him. But whatever that was, it doesn't diminish from
- 20:09Speaker 5: this award. This is a big deal, and as Brian said,
- 20:12Speaker 5: it's something where the league in the last fifteen years
- 20:17Speaker 5: or so has really made it their premium. There's the
- 20:23Speaker 5: MVP and then there's the Man of the Year ord
- 20:25Speaker 5: The Man of the Year award for the players who
- 20:27Speaker 5: get it, you could argue means as much or more
- 20:32Speaker 5: because it is somewhat of a lifetime career. You don't
- 20:35Speaker 5: get the Walter Payton Mann of the Year by having
- 20:38Speaker 5: one good year in the community. It's it's a lifetime
- 20:41Speaker 5: and Peyton Manning won when I was in Indy he
- 20:45Speaker 5: had built a hospital, right or so it's that level
- 20:50Speaker 5: of community involvement that Eric has Clay has had. So
- 20:52Speaker 5: it's a big deal and it says some It says
- 20:56Speaker 5: a lot.
- 20:56Speaker 7: About the guys who get it.
- 20:57Speaker 4: Listen, just a personal appeal here, right. We don't have
- 21:00Speaker 4: a trophy case. Right, We've got four division titles in
- 21:02Speaker 4: franchise history, but they don't give you a trophy for that.
- 21:05Speaker 4: We've never won the AFC, so there's no trophy for that,
- 21:08Speaker 4: and obviously not the Lombardi. This is a trophy he
- 21:10Speaker 4: held it up. I'd like to see the Jaguars prominently
- 21:13Speaker 4: feature that trophy. Even though the stadium is gonna be
- 21:15Speaker 4: under construction, there's not going to be a lot of
- 21:17Speaker 4: people walking through there. There will be staff there. I'd
- 21:19Speaker 4: love to see that trophy prominently featured in that front case,
- 21:22Speaker 4: so that everyone can understand the importance of the Walter
- 21:25Speaker 4: Payton Man of the your award.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Shirts and hats, Brian shirts and hats, and I.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Mean, listen, that's great. I've got all these shirts and hats,
- 21:31Speaker 4: but this is an honest to good trophy and I'd
- 21:34Speaker 4: like to see them do something with it.
- 21:35Speaker 7: Brian likes trophy.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Who doesn't doesn't want to see trophy?
- 21:40Speaker 1: We would have it right here on the table.
- 21:42Speaker 2: That's what would happened, hight Let's come back in a moment.
- 21:44Speaker 2: GM interviews are ahead, and our final thoughts right after
- 21:47Speaker 2: this as jags am.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Move the freight, Move the freight.
- 21:59Speaker 2: But Gellum Transport voted coolest office space in Jacksonville. Apply
- 22:04Speaker 2: online at Magellanlogistics dot com.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Move the frame.
- 22:10Speaker 2: It's Jack's am JP Shaddick in for Kay Stevens pried Sex.
- 22:15Speaker 1: First, So in a while, let's go John. It is
- 22:20Speaker 1: the first est, it is the first stet okay. GM
- 22:24Speaker 1: interviews underway.
- 22:25Speaker 2: They started this week officially, and you know, mister con
- 22:28Speaker 2: said during the press conference for Liam Cole and he
- 22:31Speaker 2: was asked, Hey, what's the kind of deadline you're looking
- 22:33Speaker 2: at here for the GM. He said, well, league imposed
- 22:36Speaker 2: mainly of February twenty eighth. This is kind of the
- 22:39Speaker 2: real true deadline that the league would like. So it
- 22:42Speaker 2: feels like, yeah, the next couple of weeks, this should get.
- 22:45Speaker 4: Done well to get people a little, you know, behind
- 22:48Speaker 4: the scenes, you don't. Generally you may bring the new
- 22:50Speaker 4: GM in, but you're not going to change out your
- 22:51Speaker 4: scouting staff. That generally happens after the draft is when
- 22:54Speaker 4: the new GM will make changes. So you've got a
- 22:57Speaker 4: group here that's working to build the free agent board
- 23:00Speaker 4: to work on the draft. You've got a cap team
- 23:03Speaker 4: that's in place, and Tony Boselli is obviously you know,
- 23:05Speaker 4: managing that until someone gets in so you're not falling behind.
- 23:08Speaker 4: You might as well take the time to find the
- 23:10Speaker 4: absolute perfect fit, the guy who Liam Cohen fits best with,
- 23:15Speaker 4: who Tony Bisselli fits best with, so that when you
- 23:17Speaker 4: come in he hits the ground running. I mean it'll
- 23:19Speaker 4: be boom like that in a matter of weeks, all
- 23:21Speaker 4: of a sudden, you know, you get the start of
- 23:23Speaker 4: the new league year and the draft and make sure
- 23:25Speaker 4: you do it right.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a really fast turnaround for the GM because
- 23:28Speaker 5: I figure interviews this week second interviews next week, so
- 23:32Speaker 5: they're probably near the end of that next week or
- 23:34Speaker 5: right at the beginning and the next as we're going
- 23:36Speaker 5: to the combine.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Yeah, you get a new GM.
- 23:39Speaker 5: It's two weeks in the league year, so he will
- 23:41Speaker 5: literally come in and be assisting Liam Cohene and Bisselli
- 23:47Speaker 5: with those early decisions in free agency. I would expect
- 23:50Speaker 5: the vision to have to be very much in place
- 23:53Speaker 5: by the time that happens.
- 23:55Speaker 2: You mentioned that, John, two weeks to the NFL scouting
- 23:59Speaker 2: combine in Indianapolis.
- 24:02Speaker 7: Yes, it is once a year.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and it should always be an Indianapolis in my opinion,
- 24:06Speaker 2: agree more.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Here we go. It's gonna be a busy combine, John.
- 24:08Speaker 2: With new coach, new GM, new EVP, all the things
- 24:12Speaker 2: in play.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Yeah, it's it's gonna be newsworthy and the new direction
- 24:17Speaker 5: of the Jaguars will be on display.
- 24:19Speaker 7: So I'm looking forward to We got one more Uh,
- 24:22Speaker 7: we have one more show to do here.
- 24:24Speaker 4: This whole off season might seem like a blur. It's
- 24:26Speaker 4: gonna go so fast. There's so much that has to
- 24:28Speaker 4: be done. There's so many stories for us to tell, right,
- 24:31Speaker 4: new coaches, new general manager, The Pacelli story, before you
- 24:34Speaker 4: know it, it's gonna seem like training camp is just
- 24:37Speaker 4: getting started. And I am one who thinks they can
- 24:39Speaker 4: turn this thing around fast. So we're gonna have a
- 24:42Speaker 4: fast offseason to hopefully a fast turnaround in the season.
- 24:44Speaker 2: And by the way, the off season program starts earlier now,
- 24:47Speaker 2: two weeks earlier, April seventh.
- 24:49Speaker 1: The players can come in.
- 24:50Speaker 4: I think an extra mini camp too.
- 24:52Speaker 1: I think it's voluntary.
- 24:54Speaker 4: I think all that stuff.
- 24:55Speaker 1: All that stuff, so a lot to be done. We're
- 24:59Speaker 1: back though. Great to be with you guys.
- 25:00Speaker 4: Yea, it's good to see you.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks for having great day today.
- 25:03Speaker 4: Jack.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Let's it's John Hosier, Brian Sexton. I'm J. P. Shadrick.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Thank you for watching jags An.
- 25:13Speaker 8: Yes,
