  Speaker 1: games of the season. Coach, First off, you were you

  Speaker 1: were in Maui. We're going to get to that in

  Speaker 1: more detail. But coming back from Maui, you had to

  Speaker 1: regroup as a team, as a staff, you know, judging
• 0:23
  Speaker 1: from some of the comments you've made about it, Tell
• 0:27
  Speaker 1: me about that process, because that's not easy. You start
• 0:30
  Speaker 1: the season, things go a little sideways and you got
• 0:33
  Speaker 1: to rethink some stuff.

  Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I was definitely in Maui. I could
• 0:39
  Speaker 2: confirm it. Yeah, that was. I mean, that was a
• 0:45
  Speaker 2: hell of a experience overall, really tough to describe. It
• 0:51
  Speaker 2: felt really like almost like one really long game as
• 0:56
  Speaker 2: opposed to you know, as as opposed to three them.

  Speaker 2: You know. So I think, uh, you know, just kind
• 1:05
  Speaker 2: of the run that we've been on the place in
• 1:08
  Speaker 2: the sport, the level of play that we're accustomed to
• 1:15
  Speaker 2: us throwing punches and knocking people out. Uh, you know,
• 1:19
  Speaker 2: at some point, you know, relatively early in games, uh,
• 1:23
  Speaker 2: you know, and that didn't show up for us out
• 1:25
  Speaker 2: there I think it was it was jarring losing the
• 1:27
  Speaker 2: first game out there. I think it was uh, you know,
• 1:31
  Speaker 2: it was was jarring. It rocked the program. We never
• 1:34
  Speaker 2: even considered that as something that that could possibly happen.

  Speaker 2: And you know, you you obviously you make a great
• 1:42
  Speaker 2: comeback and and uh you know, give yourself a chance
• 1:45
  Speaker 2: to get a lead in overtime and and uh we
• 1:49
  Speaker 2: don't do enough to win it, and now you find
• 1:52
  Speaker 2: yourself on a on a skid out there. And you know,
• 1:57
  Speaker 2: it was something that when you have such little time
• 2:02
  Speaker 2: in between you know, uh, performances or competitions, and you know,
• 2:09
  Speaker 2: your your confidence gets beat up, your you're frustrated, you're angry,
• 2:14
  Speaker 2: whatever emotions you're experiencing. You know, when you get into
• 2:18
  Speaker 2: a tournament that you know, plays on consecutive days like that, Uh,
• 2:23
  Speaker 2: you know, it just became a you know, just a
• 2:25
  Speaker 2: cauldron of of different things. Uh. You know that that
• 2:30
  Speaker 2: just led to h a seventy two hour spiral for
• 2:33
  Speaker 2: us that uh you know will hopefully be uh be
• 2:37
  Speaker 2: a great lesson. I think we we know, you know,
• 2:41
  Speaker 2: we we know why it happened from a tactical standpoint
• 2:45
  Speaker 2: and from uh you know, uh an emotional keep your
• 2:51
  Speaker 2: poise standpoint as well, you know, and now I think, uh,
• 2:56
  Speaker 2: hopefully it becomes something that was incredibly painful, and and
• 3:00
  Speaker 2: it stays painful, like like last year's seat in the
• 3:05
  Speaker 2: Hall road game that we lost to start Biggie's play
• 3:08
  Speaker 2: by like twenty points on the road, and like last
• 3:11
  Speaker 2: year's game at Creighton towards the end of the year,
• 3:14
  Speaker 2: Like you don't like those, don't just like go away.
• 3:17
  Speaker 2: You know. It's like, you know, those things, you know,
• 3:21
  Speaker 2: they're they're a slight stain on your season and on
• 3:25
  Speaker 2: your team, and you just got to take moments, uh,
• 3:29
  Speaker 2: moments like those and find a way to to as
• 3:33
  Speaker 2: painful as they are, to to learn from them, improve
• 3:36
  Speaker 2: from them, gain some perspective from them. You know, there
• 3:41
  Speaker 2: there was a lot there. There was there was substandard defense,
• 3:45
  Speaker 2: There was substandard rebounding. There was you know, I think
• 3:49
  Speaker 2: in my mind and then confirmed on film. You know,
• 3:53
  Speaker 2: there were issues with calls that then I didn't handle
• 3:57
  Speaker 2: the way I needed to, and and you know, and
• 4:02
  Speaker 2: it just became a thing that hopefully, you know, puts
• 4:07
  Speaker 2: us in a situation where you know, we understand from
• 4:10
  Speaker 2: a basketball standpoint, why it happened, and we'll fix those
• 4:15
  Speaker 2: things from a playing standpoint, And then I would say leadership,
• 4:23
  Speaker 2: intensity of team in terms of our confidence and our swagger,
• 4:27
  Speaker 2: and then leadership from myself. You learn a lot that
• 4:33
  Speaker 2: you know you could do better.
• 4:35
  Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting losing. I mean, no one likes to lose. Obviously,
• 4:40
  Speaker 1: we all want to win every game, but that's impossible
• 4:42
  Speaker 1: pretty much. But tell me about that. When you do lose,
• 4:47
  Speaker 1: and you did lose three in a row there, and
• 4:49
  Speaker 1: in a couple of close ones could have gone your way,
• 4:52
  Speaker 1: how do you turn that into a positive if you can,
• 4:55
  Speaker 1: do you try to do it that way with the team?
• 4:57
  Speaker 1: What do you do?
• 4:59
  Speaker 2: I mean, you're so we were so far from home.

  Speaker 2: You feel like you're in another world and so you know, yeah,
• 5:07
  Speaker 2: I mean, you you lose the first game, you know,
• 5:09
  Speaker 2: you're stunts. You get back to the hotel. Obviously I
• 5:13
  Speaker 2: was furious. I was furious about the over the back
• 5:16
  Speaker 2: hall and uh and some others things that went on,
• 5:21
  Speaker 2: you know, and then you and then you're obviously you're
• 5:23
  Speaker 2: seeing the breakdowns. I mean, are what what's made us
• 5:27
  Speaker 2: unbeatable in March and have such incredible seasons has been
• 5:34
  Speaker 2: you know, not just the offense that we're playing right
• 5:36
  Speaker 2: now that's top three or whatever in the country. It's
• 5:39
  Speaker 2: the defense has been top five, and the rebounding has
• 5:42
  Speaker 2: been top five, top ten, you know, and we play
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: so hard and obviously we do. Some of these were
• 5:48
  Speaker 2: so physical, and we did not bring with us to
• 5:51
  Speaker 2: Maui any type of a defense or a rebounding identity
• 5:56
  Speaker 2: that's built this program at the championship level. And we
• 5:59
  Speaker 2: didn't play with the swagger and and and the toughness
• 6:03
  Speaker 2: and the attitude that we've shown up on the court with.
• 6:09
  Speaker 2: You know, we got you got punched in the face
• 6:11
  Speaker 2: after that first game, and uh, you know, we were
• 6:14
  Speaker 2: a disaster on defense. We're a disaster rebounding the ball,
• 6:18
  Speaker 2: you know. And then I'm melting down because of the officiating.
• 6:21
  Speaker 2: And then you know, Mike, you go back, you watch
• 6:23
  Speaker 2: the film and see those attributes in your team that
• 6:27
  Speaker 2: are where they need to be. So now you are
• 6:29
  Speaker 2: mad at them because we're not guarding or rebounding. And
• 6:33
  Speaker 2: then I'm also watching some of the calls, and you know,
• 6:38
  Speaker 2: things are being confirmed that we're you know, that we're
• 6:41
  Speaker 2: affecting our ability to win those games. So you know,
• 6:45
  Speaker 2: it just kind of, you know, it spirals so quickly.

  Speaker 2: The next day you're you know, you're you know, you're
• 6:51
  Speaker 2: back up at five point thirty in the morning for
• 6:53
  Speaker 2: pregame meal and now, okay, we're doing this, you know,
• 6:56
  Speaker 2: and you know, it was it was. It was a
• 7:00
  Speaker 2: tough experience, but I think something that really, you know,
• 7:05
  Speaker 2: could could forge this group you know of coaches and
• 7:08
  Speaker 2: players for this year's team, because we don't really want
• 7:11
  Speaker 2: to experience anything like that again.

  Speaker 1: No, no, no, that's too painful.
• 7:15
  Speaker 2: That's for sure.
• 7:16
  Speaker 1: To steal a line from the doors that you broke
• 7:18
  Speaker 1: on through. I think when you got to Baylor. We're
