Speaker 2: She joins us this morning in the General Construction Studios.
• 2:50
Speaker 5: Jen, good morning. Welcome back to the show.
• 2:52
  Speaker 6: Good morning.
• 2:53
Speaker 5: And you have with you, I'll let you introduce our
• 2:55
  Speaker 5: guest here.
• 2:55
Speaker 7: This is Sala Amin.
• 2:57
Speaker 5: Sala, welcome to the show. Thank you for being here.
• 2:59
Speaker 6: Thank you for having me.
• 3:00
Speaker 2: I'm going to have you come way in closer to
• 3:01
Speaker 2: that microphone. You're kind of a soft speaker. Sala, it's
• 3:05
Speaker 2: great to have you on the show here as well.
• 3:08
Speaker 2: And we also have with us via the Guarantee Bank hotline,
• 3:13
Speaker 2: direct from Atlanta, GA, filmmaker Aaron Strand. Aaron, good morning
• 3:18
  Speaker 2: and welcome.
• 3:18
  Speaker 5: To the show.
• 3:20
Speaker 8: Thank you so much for having me. Happy to be here.
• 3:22
Speaker 2: Aaron, your film, Withdrawal, is going to be shown at
• 3:25
Speaker 2: the Auburn Arts Center in St. Albans Thursday night, 7 o'clock.
• 3:28
Speaker 2: A short film that Jen did will air before that.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: We'll talk to her about that in a moment. Talk
• 3:31
Speaker 2: about your film, though.
• 3:33
Speaker 8: Of course, Withdrawal is a independent feature film that premiered
• 3:38
Speaker 8: in 2025 at the Atlanta Film Festival. It is a
• 3:41
Speaker 8: film inspired by my own experience as a former opioid addict.
• 3:45
Speaker 8: It follows two star-crossed artists who have to withdraw from
• 3:48
Speaker 8: heroin overnight to try to save their relationship. It's a
• 3:51
Speaker 8: very personal story to me. It was made by an
• 3:54
Speaker 8: incredible team of independent artists here in Georgia. We went
• 3:57
Speaker 8: through the festival circuit in 2025, won a number of
• 4:00
Speaker 8: awards all over the world. But 2026, I have been
• 4:03
Speaker 8: touring this film to independent cinemas all across America because
• 4:07
Speaker 8: I truly believe that the future of film is community based.
• 4:11
Speaker 8: And I can't wait to bring it to West Virginia
• 4:13
  Speaker 8: this Thursday.
• 4:14
Speaker 2: Talk about the process of coming up with the whole
• 4:17
Speaker 2: idea behind this film and the whole screenplay.
• 4:19
Speaker 5: Because like you said, it's very personal to you.
• 4:22
Speaker 8: Yeah, of course. You know, I mean, I've been I've
• 4:24
Speaker 8: been working. Well, I'll say it this way. I start
• 4:26
Speaker 8: off as an actor. I had a very successful beginning
• 4:29
Speaker 8: of my career as an actor. I went to NYU for,
• 4:31
Speaker 8: for drama school. I started working in the theater in
• 4:34
Speaker 8: New York city. I worked off Broadway and I basically
• 4:37
Speaker 8: lit all those early career opportunities on fire because of
• 4:40
Speaker 8: my addiction. I ended up homeless and I had to
• 4:43
Speaker 8: come back to my hometown of Athens, Georgia. And when
• 4:45
Speaker 8: I was back in Athens, Georgia, I was removed from
• 4:47
Speaker 8: that environment of, of, of theater and excitement that I
• 4:51
Speaker 8: had like identified with. And all of a sudden I
• 4:53
Speaker 8: was working at a grocery store. And I did not
• 4:56
Speaker 8: knowing what to do with my life. And I had
• 4:58
Speaker 8: to ask myself the question, do I really love this
• 5:00
Speaker 8: art form or is it time to do something else?
• 5:02
Speaker 8: And I decided I really love this art form. And
• 5:04
Speaker 8: that began this transition away from being in front of
• 5:07
Speaker 8: camera to working behind the camera and trying to develop
• 5:10
Speaker 8: as a storyteller and as a director and as someone
• 5:12
Speaker 8: who could help other actors to tell their stories. And
• 5:16
Speaker 8: it took about 10 years of a lot of hard
• 5:19
Speaker 8: work and a lot of humility in order to get
• 5:21
Speaker 8: kind of good at it. But finally, at the end
• 5:24
Speaker 8: of that process, I was able to make this film that,
• 5:27
Speaker 8: you know, it's not an autobiographical film. It's not the
• 5:29
Speaker 8: Aaron Strand story here, but it is a film that's
• 5:32
Speaker 8: heavily informed by my own experience. And then I was
• 5:35
Speaker 8: also able to include so many other people that are
• 5:39
Speaker 8: in recovery that have their own perspective on addiction. And
• 5:42
Speaker 8: they were able to bring themselves. And we were able
• 5:45
Speaker 8: to create a really positive, very healthy, affirming work environment
• 5:49
Speaker 8: for for all those people. And it was a real
• 5:51
Speaker 8: it was a real joy to make.
• 5:53
Speaker 5: And, uh, Sala, am I pronouncing that right? Yes, you are.
• 5:56
Speaker 5: Are you at the group Help West Virginia?
• 5:58
  Speaker 8: Yes.
• 5:58
Speaker 5: Right. Talk about your, talk about your work here.
• 6:00
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 6:01
Speaker 9: So, uh, I'm the director for Help for West Virginia
• 6:06
Speaker 9: and it's our state's, um, substance use disorder and mental
• 6:10
Speaker 9: health helpline so like me you know having lived experience
• 6:14
Speaker 9: myself i also like see this firsthand like how this
• 6:19
Speaker 9: is such a big need to be able to um
• 6:23
Speaker 9: to be able to just showcase this movie and just
• 6:26
Speaker 9: showcase how big of a need that this is in
• 6:30
Speaker 9: this state for people to receive assistance with substance use,
• 6:35
Speaker 9: go to treatment, know that the resources are available. Because
• 6:40
Speaker 9: I think one of the biggest barriers in this state
• 6:44
Speaker 9: is just not being aware that the resources are there.
• 6:48
Speaker 2: We hear this a lot about the problem with the
• 6:52
Speaker 2: with drugs in West Virginia, really across the country, but
• 6:55
Speaker 2: we'll focus on West Virginia right now. Are we making
• 6:58
Speaker 2: any headway here in your opinion?
• 7:00
  Speaker 9: I think so. I think back in 2013, when I
• 7:03
Speaker 9: first got clean, I had to go out of state
• 7:09
Speaker 9: to receive treatment. And now coming back, like having moved
• 7:15
Speaker 9: back in the state, I'm just so proud at the
• 7:19
Speaker 9: fact that West Virginia is kind of like leading that
• 7:23
Speaker 9: for other states. Like, For instance, there's no other state
• 7:29
Speaker 9: in America that has a program like Help for West
• 7:31
Speaker 9: Virginia to be just that, you know, connection for a
• 7:37
Speaker 9: main line for people to call that we can get
• 7:39
Speaker 9: into treatment right away.
• 7:41
  Speaker 10: Okay.
• 7:42
Speaker 2: It's because, again, we've battled this for so long, and
• 7:45
Speaker 2: it's changed. You know, it was at first it was,
• 7:49
Speaker 2: you know, it was the pill, you know, the pill mill,
• 7:51
Speaker 2: things like that, and that kind of. Transition to something else.
• 7:53
Speaker 2: Now we're dealing with fentanyl out there, which is a
• 7:55
Speaker 2: completely different animal altogether, as you well know.
• 7:58
  Speaker 6: Oh, absolutely.
• 7:59
Speaker 9: Yeah, it's unfortunate because with fentanyl involved, it's not even
• 8:06
Speaker 9: giving the young kids a chance at recovery because... They'll
• 8:11
Speaker 9: try something one time. You know how when you're young,
• 8:15
Speaker 9: you want to do something one time. You're like, oh,
• 8:19
Speaker 9: my friends are doing it. It's so cool.
• 8:20
Speaker 6: They do it at a party.
• 8:22
Speaker 9: They have no idea that fentanyl is even in the
• 8:25
Speaker 9: drug that they're doing, and they die. So it's like
• 8:28
Speaker 9: before even knowing that they're going to develop an addiction problem,
• 8:34
Speaker 9: they don't even have a chance at recovering because of fentanyl.
• 8:39
Speaker 2: Jen, I want to bring you in because you've been
• 8:40
Speaker 2: here on the show in the past. And as part
• 8:43
Speaker 2: of this film that they're going to be showing at
• 8:45
Speaker 2: the Auburn on Thursday night, you did a short film
• 8:48
Speaker 2: that's going to be shown before that, I.
• 8:49
  Speaker 5: Think, right?
• 8:50
Speaker 7: Yeah, I did. I also, Aaron and I met through
• 8:54
Speaker 7: a program called Non-Dependent or Non-D. And so we, him
• 9:00
Speaker 7: and I connected just because we were talking about trying
• 9:02
Speaker 7: to get movies distribution in different avenues and trying to
• 9:06
Speaker 7: bring things from a local standpoint. And so this is
• 9:09
Speaker 7: kind of like part of this experiment. So this is
• 9:11
Speaker 7: why I encouraged him to come to West Virginia. And
• 9:14
Speaker 7: he immediately locked on because I think, A, we have
• 9:17
Speaker 7: a good group of people here that obviously could benefit
• 9:20
Speaker 7: from something positive. Because all of us say all the time,
• 9:24
Speaker 7: I can't handle another movie about drugs or addiction. But
• 9:29
  Speaker 7: there's nothing that's really been positive. So it's a big
• 9:33
Speaker 7: deal to have something that actually has a positive light
• 9:35
Speaker 7: and we're having positive conversations from it. And so that
• 9:38
Speaker 7: was a big deal to me. We're just throwing in
• 9:40
Speaker 7: one of my short films in the beginning just to
• 9:43
  Speaker 7: give some laughs.
• 9:43
Speaker 5: So talk about your short film.
• 9:47
Speaker 7: It's called Bad Cop. It's starring Ashley Stennett, which I
• 9:51
Speaker 7: know some people locally know him pretty well. And then
• 9:54
Speaker 7: it was directed by Kevin Adkins. So it's just a lighthearted,
• 9:57
Speaker 7: fun comedy that we're going to show beforehand.
• 10:00
  Speaker 10: Movie.
• 10:01
Speaker 7: So we'll make it a pretty fun night. It'll be
• 10:04
Speaker 7: in St. Albans at Albans Art Center down on Main Street,
• 10:08
Speaker 7: 7 o'clock on Thursday. And Aaron is going to come
• 10:12
  Speaker 7: in for a Q & A afterward, and then Sawwa
• 10:14
Speaker 7: is going to be hosting with me. And, you know,
• 10:18
Speaker 7: we're going to have a really fun night.
• 10:20
Speaker 2: So I have a question for you via the text
• 10:22
Speaker 2: line here. Somebody asked, where can a person go that's
• 10:25
Speaker 2: addicted to crack? It seems like it just fell off
• 10:28
Speaker 2: the map, still exists. Everything is for meth and heroin now.
• 10:31
  Speaker 6: No. Okay.
• 10:34
Speaker 9: So crack kind of is, when I do my data
• 10:39
Speaker 9: every week, crack is actually rising. I'm seeing more people
• 10:44
Speaker 9: doing crack, but it, All the treatment centers that we
• 10:48
Speaker 9: work with accept people that are struggling with crack, cocaine, meth, heroin.
• 10:54
Speaker 9: They don't have to be just struggling with heroin or
• 10:57
Speaker 9: opiates in order to receive treatment.
• 10:59
  Speaker 4: Okay.
• 11:01
Speaker 5: Aaron, have you been to West Virginia before?
• 11:03
Speaker 8: I have never been to West Virginia in my life.
• 11:06
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 11:07
Speaker 2: So you know there are certain things you have to
• 11:09
Speaker 2: do when you come to West Virginia, Jen. I'm going
• 11:10
Speaker 2: to depend on you two to help me. You've got
• 11:12
Speaker 2: to take him to Tudor's. Yes.
• 11:16
Speaker 5: Are you familiar, Erin? Are you familiar with Tudor's?
• 11:19
Speaker 8: No, I can't wait to learn. What is Tudor?
• 11:22
  Speaker 5: What is Tudor?
• 11:24
  Speaker 2: Tudor is, it's Tudor's biscuit world. And it's, and you're
• 11:28
Speaker 2: a Southern guy. I mean, you know all about biscuits,
• 11:30
  Speaker 2: I'm sure.
• 11:31
  Speaker 11: Okay.
• 11:31
Speaker 2: Well, we have, you know, we have all of the sausage, bacon,
• 11:35
Speaker 2: and the other. So yeah, it's, so you definitely got
• 11:38
Speaker 2: to go to Tudor's. Also, we got to get him
• 11:39
  Speaker 2: a pepperoni roll.
• 11:40
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 11:40
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 11:41
Speaker 1: I'm actually going to leave that.
• 11:42
Speaker 7: So Jay Silverman from Have Fun West Virginia, he's, been
• 11:46
Speaker 7: courteous enough a to come and then he's also donating
• 11:49
Speaker 7: like a hundred dollar visa card for a raffle like
• 11:52
Speaker 7: for the night which is really nice of him but
• 11:54
Speaker 7: we're gonna leave jay in charge of giving you uh
• 11:57
Speaker 7: finding you a pepperoni roll because jay is like the
• 11:59
Speaker 7: foodie man of west virginia now all right are you.
• 12:02
Speaker 2: Familiar with pepperoni rolls aaron I am not.
• 12:06
  Speaker 10: Okay.
• 12:07
  Speaker 9: I am not.
• 12:07
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 12:08
  Speaker 2: Well, let me, well, I mean, it's a, it's a,
• 12:09
Speaker 2: it's a West Virginia, it's a West Virginia, you know, thing.
• 12:12
Speaker 2: So basically the whole story behind pepperoni rolls is, is that, uh,
• 12:15
Speaker 2: you know, years and years ago, coal miners struggled with, with,
• 12:19
Speaker 2: with what they could take in the coal mines with them,
• 12:21
Speaker 2: you know, that would, that would stay, you know, fresh
• 12:22
Speaker 2: and whatever. And so somebody came up with the idea
• 12:25
Speaker 2: to have bread with just pepperoni stuck in it. You know,
• 12:29
  Speaker 2: they put it, so it's, it's a, it's a roll.
• 12:31
Speaker 2: And it's got pepperoni in it. It really came out
• 12:33
Speaker 2: of northern West Virginia, primarily north central West Virginia.
• 12:36
Speaker 5: And it's an institution. So you handle those two things
• 12:39
Speaker 5: and you will officially be a West Virginian at least
• 12:42
Speaker 5: for one day, Aaron.
• 12:43
  Speaker 12: Wow.
• 12:44
Speaker 8: Well, I'm honored and excited by the opportunity. And yeah,
• 12:48
Speaker 8: I'm going to be making a beautiful drive. up there
• 12:51
Speaker 8: on thursday so uh i'll get i'll get a full
• 12:53
  Speaker 8: a full experience i can't wait.
• 12:55
Speaker 2: All right and i'm i'm excited to have you on
• 12:57
Speaker 2: the show knowing that you're from athens because this is
• 12:59
Speaker 2: kind of a rarity around here but i am the
• 13:00
Speaker 2: world's biggest georgia bulldog fan just so you.
• 13:03
Speaker 5: Know what yeah oh go dog uh.
• 13:07
Speaker 2: Yeah mark mark safe from hearing roll tide after saturday
• 13:10
  Speaker 2: night i'm a i was born in georgia and i
• 13:13
Speaker 2: i became a georgia fan when herschel walker played for
• 13:15
Speaker 2: him and i've been a georgia fan ever since so
• 13:16
Speaker 2: i'm like the only georgia fan that i know around
• 13:18
Speaker 2: here but uh Oh, that's beautiful.
• 13:20
Speaker 12: Well, roll, tears, roll.
• 13:22
Speaker 5: Okay. Sorry, I've got another question for you.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: It says, I've read several stories about an increase nationwide
• 13:28
Speaker 2: of animal shelter dogs and cats being brought into drug
• 13:31
Speaker 2: rehab centers, not just nursing homes and prisons, but into
• 13:33
Speaker 2: drug rehabilitation facilities as therapy animals. Is this something that
• 13:37
Speaker 2: different rehab centers could implement?
• 13:40
Speaker 9: I do think that's another big barrier for someone receiving
• 13:45
Speaker 9: treatment because they have no one to leave their animals
• 13:47
Speaker 9: with and they're not going to leave their animals to
• 13:50
Speaker 9: go to treatment. So I do think there are some
• 13:56
Speaker 9: treatment centers. that are working to get emotional support animals
• 14:02
  Speaker 9: in there. But there's a lot of, it's a problem
• 14:07
Speaker 9: because it's like, okay, well, somebody else might be allergic.
• 14:11
  Speaker 9: That's a patient. So that's why it's not, you know,
• 14:14
  Speaker 9: you can't.
• 14:15
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's understandable. All right. Well, Erin, it's been a
• 14:19
Speaker 5: pleasure to have you on the show today.
• 14:21

Speaker 5: They're a pastry. So just so you know. All right.

• 17:57
Speaker 2: story this morning posted at wvmetronews.com. The legendary Frank Gardenia.
• 18:01
Speaker 2: has passed, 72 years old, of course, former play-by-play guy
• 18:04
Speaker 2: for Marshall, later East Carolina, worked a long time for
• 18:07
Speaker 2: Penn State. Another legendary broadcaster, Speedy Bevins' new Frank Will,
• 18:11
Speaker 2: and he joins us this morning on the Guaranteed Bank Hotline.
• 18:13
Speaker 5: Good morning, Speed. Welcome to the show.
• 18:15
  Speaker 10: Hey, Dave.
• 18:16
Speaker 12: Good morning to you.
• 18:18
Speaker 10: I know Frank had been sick a long time, but still,
• 18:20
Speaker 10: it's a sad day to talk about the passing of
• 18:24
Speaker 10: a good friend and an outstanding broadcaster.
• 18:27
Speaker 5: When did you first meet Frank?
• 18:29
Speaker 10: I met Frank at Marshall. Frank was a year ahead
• 18:33
Speaker 10: of me in the broadcasting course. And I was a freshman.
• 18:38
Speaker 10: He was a sophomore. We had a couple of classes together.
• 18:41
Speaker 10: And it was very early on that in a group
• 18:45
Speaker 10: of outstanding broadcasters that went through Marshall during that time,
• 18:48
Speaker 10: Frank was among the leaders. And he not only demonstrated
• 18:52
Speaker 10: it in the classroom, but he demonstrated it by doing
• 18:56
Speaker 10: a lot of things in radio while the rest of
• 18:58
Speaker 10: us were having fun on the weekend.
• 19:01
Speaker 2: I mean, one thing about Frank, and I didn't know
• 19:03
Speaker 2: him as well as you did, but I can tell you,
• 19:05
Speaker 2: he was a worker, and nobody worked harder at his
• 19:08
Speaker 2: broadcasting craft than what Frank Gardini did.
• 19:11
Speaker 10: I don't know when, number one, the guy studied, number two,
• 19:15
Speaker 10: when the guy slept, because we were full-time students, but
• 19:19
Speaker 10: on the weekends, he did West Virginia State football on Saturdays,
• 19:23
Speaker 10: On Sundays, he worked on air shift at WGNT Radio
• 19:29
Speaker 10: in Huntington. I mean, he was always, and with Frank,
• 19:33
Speaker 10: I'm not going to say he was always working. I'm
• 19:36
Speaker 10: going to say Frank was always doing something on the radio.
• 19:39
Speaker 2: One thing that I didn't know, and I'm sure you did,
• 19:42
Speaker 2: but I didn't know this. This is contained in Jeff's story.
• 19:44
Speaker 2: Frank was the first Marshall grad to be the play-by-play
• 19:48
Speaker 2: guy for the Thundering Herd since World War II.
• 19:51
  Speaker 10: Was not a.
• 19:56
Speaker 10: I will never challenge Mr. Jenkins, but I think one
• 20:01
Speaker 10: year Mike Kirtner did Marshall play-by-play, and I'm pretty sure Kirtner...
• 20:09
Speaker 10: graduated Marshall. I know he was a student there. Gosh,
• 20:13
Speaker 10: I hate to challenge the grandpapa there.
• 20:16
Speaker 2: And of course, Frank went on to other things. I
• 20:19
Speaker 2: mentioned East Carolina and Penn State, but you know, Marshall
• 20:22
Speaker 2: was his first love, Steve.
• 20:23
Speaker 10: Marshall was his, you know, you think Frank spent more
• 20:28
Speaker 10: time at Penn State than he did at Marshall, but
• 20:30
Speaker 10: he is still remembered for his time at Marshall. And
• 20:34
Speaker 10: I'll tell you something else. there was a baseball coach
• 20:38
Speaker 10: at Huntington East High School by the name of Dan Shoemaker.
• 20:41
Speaker 10: And Dan Shoemaker was one of those guys early on
• 20:45
Speaker 10: that saw the potential of a flagellating cable channel called ESPN.
• 20:51
Speaker 10: And Dan Shoemaker got out of coaching and got into
• 20:55
Speaker 10: regional television production. And the guy he chose to do
• 20:59
Speaker 10: most of his games was Frank Gardena. And Dave, there
• 21:03
Speaker 10: were many Saturday nights in football season, I would be
• 21:06
Speaker 10: watching a game, and Frank was doing it for ESPN.
• 21:10
Speaker 5: Yeah, I remember that.
• 21:12
Speaker 2: Well, we're talking with Speedy Bevins, and much like you,
• 21:15
Speaker 2: as you kind of alluded to this earlier, Frank was
• 21:18
Speaker 2: a walking encyclopedia of West Virginia sports, of any, no
• 21:23
Speaker 2: matter what the level was, Speedy.
• 21:25
Speaker 10: And you're right. And the thing with Frank, and he
• 21:29
Speaker 10: wrote a weekly column in the Sunday Gazette, he didn't
• 21:33
Speaker 10: talk a lot about college and pros unless he brought
• 21:39
Speaker 10: it down to the local level. Now, he may talk
• 21:42
Speaker 10: about the Cincinnati Bengals, but he's going to talk about
• 21:44
Speaker 10: Mike Barber playing at Winfield High School. He may talk
• 21:48
Speaker 10: about the Orlando Magic, but he's going to talk about
• 21:52
Speaker 10: when Jason Williams was playing junior high or middle school
• 21:56
Speaker 10: at DuPont. He was a guy who always, always kept
• 22:01
  Speaker 10: it local.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: Talking to Speedy Bevins again about the passing of Frank
• 22:04
Speaker 2: Gardini of the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live, brought
• 22:06
Speaker 2: to you in part by Pinnacle Consultants, helping to identify
• 22:09
Speaker 2: environmental concerns like asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor air quality issues,
• 22:13
Speaker 2: buildings all across the state, providing inspections, testing, and accredited
• 22:16
Speaker 2: lab services you can trust. Check out PinnacleCorp.net. helping you
• 22:19
Speaker 2: understand your environment because what you don't know can hurt you.
• 22:22
Speaker 2: And Frank was a deeply, deeply religious man, Speedy.
• 22:26
Speaker 10: Very much so. And he kind of pioneered that into
• 22:33
Speaker 10: a network radio show. It was a Christian talk radio show.
• 22:38
Speaker 10: And he was able to get a lot of guests
• 22:43
Speaker 10: on that because of what it was all about. I
• 22:47
Speaker 10: think Frank used to be at the Super Bowl during
• 22:50
Speaker 10: that week of press conferences and talk radio and everything
• 22:53
Speaker 10: leading up to the Super Bowl. He got a lot
• 22:56
Speaker 10: of big-name guests on that show because it was such
• 22:59
Speaker 10: a faith-based show, and there were a lot of people
• 23:02
Speaker 10: around the Super Bowl who wanted to come on.
• 23:05
Speaker 2: Yeah, and on that particular broadcast you're talking about, as
• 23:08
Speaker 2: you said, that was the focus of the broadcast was
• 23:11
Speaker 2: Frank talking about sports but also talking to these folks that,
• 23:14
Speaker 2: much like him, had a very, very deep-rooted Christian faith.
• 23:18
Speaker 2: And I know I attended church, Putnam County, with Frank.
• 23:22
Speaker 2: He was a regular there at the church there, River. Yeah, River,
• 23:30
Speaker 2: for some reason, the name escaped me.
• 23:31
Speaker 10: Right across from Generations Ford.
• 23:34
Speaker 2: Exactly, right across from Generations Ford. I got to know
• 23:38
Speaker 2: Speedy Frank on a different level when he worked for
• 23:41
Speaker 2: then-Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. He was in the communications department,
• 23:44
Speaker 2: so he kind of transitioned away from broadcasting. And then
• 23:49
Speaker 2: when I started doing this show, Frank was in the
• 23:51
Speaker 2: communications department of then Attorney General Patrick Morrissey.
• 23:56
Speaker 10: I guarantee you, no matter what the job was, Frank,
• 23:59
Speaker 10: he was very well respected by his co-workers, and he
• 24:02
Speaker 10: made a lot of friends along the way. The challenge
• 24:06
Speaker 10: today would be to find somebody to say anything bad
• 24:10
Speaker 10: about Frank Gardenia. I don't think you can.
• 24:13
  Speaker 6: You're right.
• 24:13
Speaker 10: He was just that warm an individual.
• 24:17
Speaker 5: Well, Speedy, I appreciate you joining us.
• 24:19
Speaker 2: I'm going to have you back on Metro News Midday
• 24:21
Speaker 2: later today with more reflections. We're going to do a
• 24:23
Speaker 2: couple segments on Frank Gardenia and the Midday Show today.
• 24:25
Speaker 2: Appreciate you being here, and we'll talk later today.
• 24:28
  Speaker 5: Thanks a lot.
• 24:28
Speaker 10: Talk with you then, Dave.
• 24:30
Speaker 2: 28 minutes away from 10 o'clock here on a Monday morning,

Speaker 5: Let me knock out a couple of texts here. Let
• 24:44
  Speaker 5: me see.
• 24:47
Speaker 2: Text, good diabetes joke about West Virginia cuisine. I was
• 24:51
Speaker 2: just thinking that, LOL. Well, I get one off every

Speaker 2: now and then. Text, the Mountaineers are on a tear.
• 24:56
Speaker 2: Those extra two hours of Mountaineer sports talk should be

• 25:02
Speaker 2: of local listener feedback, says the show. Reference to Metro
• 25:06
Speaker 2: News Midday. Text, Ukraine has allegedly blown up some Russian
• 25:10
Speaker 2: data centers and halted the activity of Russian bots. I
• 25:13
Speaker 2: suppose Fox News, MAGA, and Facebook will be delayed in
• 25:16
Speaker 2: getting their new talking points until Russia gets their bots

• 29:23
Speaker 2: It's just some people doing something, don't you know, says

Speaker 2: a texter. Text Dave, hate to hear Frank Gardini has
• 29:30
Speaker 2: passed away. Always enjoyed hearing him broadcast many sporting events
• 29:33
Speaker 2: and his vast sports knowledge.
• 29:34
Speaker 5: Prayers for his family. Danny Jones. is here. How you doing, man?
• 29:38
Speaker 6: I'm doing fine. Didn't Ilyan Omar, didn't she marry her
• 29:42
  Speaker 6: brother or something?
• 29:44
  Speaker 5: I don't know who she's married to.
• 29:46
Speaker 6: No, she married her brother to get into this country.
• 29:52
Speaker 5: That's something I'll have to look up.
• 29:54
Speaker 6: Somebody text that for me.
• 29:55
Speaker 5: I'm looking it up right now. Did you know Frank Gardena? No, no.
• 29:59
Speaker 5: Great guy. I can't believe you guys never crossed paths.
• 30:01
Speaker 5: I mean, I know you weren't much into sports, but,
• 30:03
Speaker 5: I mean, he was an icon. Let me ask you
• 30:07
Speaker 5: a sports question. Okay, is it going to be about
• 30:09
Speaker 5: the WNBA? Because I don't know it.
• 30:11
Speaker 6: No, that's something you can ask me.
• 30:14
Speaker 5: That's what I said. I'm not going to know it.
• 30:16
Speaker 6: No, about these coaches and basketball players who got involved
• 30:23
Speaker 6: in this– I don't even know how old it is.
• 30:27
Speaker 6: I just caught it on the plane coming home. That
• 30:33
Speaker 6: got caught up in this card game scam the mafia ran.
• 30:37
Speaker 6: Do you know anything about that? I do not, no. Okay.
• 30:40
Speaker 6: It was a coach, Hall of Fame coach.
• 30:43
Speaker 5: Okay. Quick Google search here. Did Ileana Omar marry her brother?
• 30:48
Speaker 2: An extensive investigation by multiple news organizations, law enforcement agencies
• 30:51
Speaker 2: found no evidence that she married her brother. The claim is,
• 30:54
Speaker 2: Rumors began circulating around 2016 that she had married her
• 30:57
Speaker 2: biological brother. The investigation, multiple independent investigations, including reviews by
• 31:04
Speaker 2: the Associated Press, the Washington Post, and the Minnesota Campaign
• 31:07
Speaker 2: Finance Board found that the person that she married is
• 31:11
Speaker 2: a British citizen with a completely different family tree, no
• 31:14
  Speaker 2: relation no more.
• 31:15
  Speaker 6: Okay.
• 31:15
Speaker 5: So there you go.
• 31:16
Speaker 6: Okay. All right. Take care of that.
• 31:19
Speaker 5: All right. So how was California?
• 31:20
  Speaker 6: It was beautiful.
• 31:22
  Speaker 5: Okay. Weather good?
• 31:23
Speaker 6: Hot. Until the last couple days.
• 31:27
Speaker 5: I don't know how you fly like you do because
• 31:30
  Speaker 5: I haven't flown a lot in my life, but I've
• 31:32
Speaker 5: flown enough to know that I don't like it.
• 31:34
Speaker 6: You should see my points.
• 31:36
Speaker 5: Well, I get that, but I mean, so how long
• 31:39
Speaker 5: a flight is it? I mean, so what is your normal?
• 31:43
Speaker 6: Here's what you can do.
• 31:45
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 31:45
Speaker 6: You leave here at 6 o'clock in the morning, and
• 31:50
Speaker 6: you go to Atlanta. You get sometimes a two- and
• 31:53
Speaker 6: three-hour break, and I go to the Delta Sky Lounge
• 31:59
Speaker 6: because I'm a member. And then you go to California,
• 32:05
Speaker 6: and they're by noon.
• 32:07
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 32:08
Speaker 6: But, of course, noon there is 3 o'clock here.
• 32:11
Speaker 5: So you fly to Atlanta. You do that every time?
• 32:13
  Speaker 6: Every time.
• 32:14
  Speaker 11: Okay.
• 32:14
Speaker 2: I was thinking some reason that you told me one
• 32:16
Speaker 2: time you drove somewhere. And then I was telling my wife.
• 32:18
Speaker 6: I drove the Cadillac out there.
• 32:20
Speaker 2: No, but I was thinking that you said that you,
• 32:22
Speaker 2: when you were flying out there, that you drove somewhere
• 32:24
Speaker 2: and then flew from there.
• 32:26
Speaker 6: Oh, yeah. I've done that. You drive to Nashville.
• 32:30
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 32:30
Speaker 6: Nashville and drive. You fly a straight flight from Nashville
• 32:36
  Speaker 6: to Long Beach.
• 32:37
  Speaker 10: Okay.
• 32:38
Speaker 6: And Long Beach is a lot closer than John Wayne.
• 32:41
Speaker 5: Okay. All right. So let's get your opinion. And again,
• 32:45
Speaker 5: TJ is back from vacation, and he's going to join us.
• 32:48
Speaker 2: He dropped this commentary about Pete Hegseth's wish for live
• 32:54
Speaker 2: streaming the execution of the guy in the Fort Hood killings.
• 32:58
Speaker 5: What do you think?
• 32:59
Speaker 6: Yeah. First thing, I'm pretty ambivalent about the death penalty.
• 33:04
Speaker 6: But if you want to punish this guy, Don't live
• 33:08
Speaker 6: stream an execution. Put him in Florence, ABX, Colorado.
• 33:15
Speaker 5: I mean, my take on it is that I don't
• 33:20
Speaker 5: know how– if you kill him, in my opinion, and
• 33:24
Speaker 5: I'm not saying he deserves to even live.
• 33:27
Speaker 6: He becomes a martyr.
• 33:28
Speaker 2: He's a martyr at that point. He becomes a martyr. Now,
• 33:32
Speaker 2: does that mean you tiptoe around everything? No, absolutely not.
• 33:35
Speaker 2: But I just– I don't think in this particular case–
• 33:37
Speaker 2: That live streaming, and I'm not so sure what will happen,
• 33:42
Speaker 2: and it has nothing to do with the crime itself.
• 33:44
Speaker 5: I just think he becomes a martyr at that point.
• 33:46
Speaker 6: That's what they do. They chop, you know, when they're
• 33:49
Speaker 6: chopping the heads off those guys. They were live streaming that.
• 33:54
Speaker 6: Don't do that. Put him in ADD. I wouldn't kill
• 33:56
Speaker 6: him at all. Do you know anything about ADD?
• 33:58
Speaker 5: No, I'm just going to say explain that to us.
• 34:00
Speaker 6: ADDX is a solitary confinement, 23 hours a day. Um,
• 34:09
Speaker 6: it is eerily quiet. A former, um, a warden called
• 34:16
Speaker 6: it a clean version of hell. It's the worst prison
• 34:20
Speaker 6: in the country. El Chapo's there. Um, Sammy Gravano did
• 34:27
Speaker 6: seven years there. You should hear him talk about it. Um,
• 34:32
Speaker 6: But that's where Maduro will wind up. He'll wind up
• 34:37
Speaker 6: at ADX. And it's the worst prison in the country.
• 34:42
Speaker 6: And you're locked in a room and you don't get out.
• 34:47
Speaker 6: Or you get out once and they take all your
• 34:50
Speaker 6: clothes off and frisk you. And then you get to
• 34:54
Speaker 6: go out in this concrete area and you get to
• 34:58
Speaker 6: walk around in an area about, A little bit bigger
• 35:02
Speaker 6: in this room. And then you come back in an hour,
• 35:06
  Speaker 6: and that's it.
• 35:10
Speaker 5: So you think that would be a much worse punishment? Absolutely.
• 35:13
Speaker 5: I know it would be. If they were to live
• 35:15
Speaker 5: stream it, is it something that you would want to watch?
• 35:21
  Speaker 6: I don't know.
• 35:22
Speaker 2: See, I remember back in the 80s, back when the
• 35:25
Speaker 2: VCR was the big thing in the mid-80s, and there
• 35:27
Speaker 2: were these movies that were called Faces of Death. And
• 35:30
Speaker 2: they were actual people dying. And it was things like
• 35:34
Speaker 2: they had very rudimentary footage of a guy being mauled
• 35:39
Speaker 2: to death by pit bulls. He was trying to break
• 35:41
Speaker 2: into a into a junkyard. And it was actual electrocutions,
• 35:45
Speaker 2: you know, from other countries and things of that nature.
• 35:48
  Speaker 2: And as a 14, 15, 16 year old kid, you're.
• 35:51
Speaker 5: All about that. Have you seen Faces of Death yet?
• 35:53
Speaker 5: Have you seen it?
• 35:54
Speaker 2: And we went and we had you're supposed to be,
• 35:56
Speaker 2: I think, 21 to even rent it. And when you
• 35:58
Speaker 2: know people at the video store, you can get by
• 36:00
Speaker 2: with it. But that was 15-year-old Dave. I don't know
• 36:04
Speaker 2: that 56-year-old Dave really wants to see that.
• 36:07
Speaker 6: I have to concede that I tried to watch. You
• 36:12
Speaker 6: can't watch. It's not on these guys getting their head
• 36:16
Speaker 6: cut off. Because I couldn't believe it was happening. But
• 36:20
Speaker 6: they had a whole line of them up. And they
• 36:23
Speaker 6: had those guys behind them. And they cut their heads off.
• 36:28
Speaker 2: Text, Ilya Nomar married her brother. Immigrants were eating cats
• 36:31
Speaker 2: and dogs. Democrats will make her child use a litter
• 36:33
Speaker 2: box instead of a toilet. The Russian bot influence is
• 36:36
Speaker 2: on hold now, but I'll come back like a flash flood.
• 36:39
Speaker 2: It'll come back like a flash flood once the Russian
• 36:41
Speaker 2: data centers get back online.
• 36:42
Speaker 6: I think we've confirmed that she didn't marry her brother.
• 36:45
  Speaker 10: Yeah.
• 36:45
  Speaker 16: Yeah.
• 36:46
Speaker 2: Well, I think this was sarcasm, you know, because it
• 36:48
Speaker 2: mentioned all the other things about immigrants eating cats and dogs,
• 36:51
Speaker 2: which was, you know.
• 36:53
  Speaker 5: Not true.
• 36:54
  Speaker 6: Look, I wasn't trying to slam her. I really wasn't.
• 37:00
Speaker 6: I've heard that for so long that she married him
• 37:05
Speaker 6: just to get in this country. And perhaps in Somalia,
• 37:09
  Speaker 6: maybe they'd do that. I don't know.
• 37:11
Speaker 2: Dex, I have no problem with showing it. Watch it
• 37:13
Speaker 2: or not, your choice. They did not release the killing
• 37:16
Speaker 2: or show the body of bin Laden. The people said
• 37:18
Speaker 2: that it never happened. So streaming this, people could see
• 37:20
Speaker 2: for themselves. What happens otherwise, they'll say it never happened.
• 37:24
Speaker 2: 16 years past due. Remember, most people offended by this
• 37:27
Speaker 2: celebrated Kirk anniversary and Trump being shot.
• 37:32
Speaker 5: So to heck with your morality, high horse.
• 37:35
Speaker 6: I guess that's directed at me.
• 37:36
Speaker 5: Well, I think it's people that don't want it, not
• 37:39
Speaker 5: just you. I think it's people that don't necessarily want
• 37:42
Speaker 5: to see it. But here's something.
• 37:44
Speaker 6: I'm strategic. I got a better strategy. You put him
• 37:48
Speaker 6: in ADX, that's worse.
• 37:49
Speaker 5: I like your idea. I like your idea.
• 37:52
Speaker 2: You know, here's the thing about, and I appreciate the text,
• 37:54
Speaker 2: but the text you're saying, watch it or don't. Somebody
• 37:57
Speaker 2: pointed this out to me yesterday, and it was actually
• 38:00
Speaker 2: a meme that I saw, but my wife and I
• 38:01
Speaker 2: were talking about the people that say, watch it or not,
• 38:04
Speaker 2: it is your choice.
• 38:05
Speaker 5: What if they feel the same way about things like
• 38:07
  Speaker 5: drag shows?
• 38:09
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 38:10
Speaker 5: Just saying. I mean, everybody gets.
• 38:12
Speaker 2: All— I' m not into drag shows, but everybody gets all upset
• 38:15
Speaker 2: about it. Now, maybe it's comparing apples and oranges, but,
• 38:18
Speaker 2: I mean, why can't we take the same attitude? If
• 38:19
Speaker 2: you don't like it, don't watch it.
• 38:20
Speaker 6: Remember this gay bar up here?
• 38:23
Speaker 5: Don't get me in trouble, Dan.
• 38:25
Speaker 6: No, no, no. No, it was a funeral home. It
• 38:27
Speaker 6: was a funeral home, and it's gone now.
• 38:29
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 38:30
Speaker 6: And it was up on then Broad Street, now Leon
• 38:33
Speaker 6: Sullivan Way. And it was a— They were having drag shows,
• 38:40
Speaker 6: and it was stopped because of city ordinance. So myself
• 38:45
Speaker 6: and I thought it was let them do what they
• 38:47
Speaker 6: want to do. And so myself and a Daily Mail
• 38:52
Speaker 6: reporter went up there and started stirring things up. I
• 38:55
Speaker 6: was on not this radio station but the other one.
• 39:00
Speaker 6: And we stirred it up, and then everybody got involved,
• 39:05
Speaker 6: and it passed the– It passed the council about 13
• 39:11
Speaker 6: to 12 that they allowed them to have the— Now.
• 39:14
Speaker 5: You weren't mayor, though, at the time, right? This is
• 39:16
Speaker 5: when you— I was a reporter. No, but I'm saying
• 39:18
Speaker 5: you weren't mayor at the time.
• 39:19
  Speaker 10: No.
• 39:19
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 39:20
Speaker 6: But I would have been all right with me.
• 39:22
Speaker 5: I don't really care what people do, to be honest
• 39:24
Speaker 5: with you, Dan. Yeah, I mean— The older I get,
• 39:25
Speaker 5: the less I care what people do. If they want
• 39:27
  Speaker 5: to have drag shows, I mean, it's private. It's a
• 39:30
Speaker 5: private club. But I'll tell you a story. We went
• 39:36
Speaker 5: in there, a bunch of us reporters.
• 39:40
Speaker 6: And there was this female from the Gazette. She was
• 39:49
Speaker 6: part of our gaggle of group that went in there,
• 39:52
Speaker 6: and I knew everybody sitting at the bar. It was
• 39:56
Speaker 6: a beautiful club. And when she left, I said, you
• 40:02
Speaker 6: wait a minute. I'm leaving with you.
• 40:04
  Speaker 1: Ha, ha, ha.
• 40:07
Speaker 2: On that note, I do want to remind you, Trick
• 40:09
Speaker 2: or Beat with 107.3 The Beat is back at GoMart
• 40:11

• 40:20
Speaker 2: are available starting today at our studios, 1111. Virginia Street
• 40:23
Speaker 2: East and Charleston, 1073thebeat. com if you need more information. Danny
• 40:27
Speaker 2: text says, the last public execution in the U.S. was
• 40:30
Speaker 2: in the 1930s. Crime has steadily increased since then. Everyone
• 40:33
Speaker 2: knows this, and don't you dare fact check this. Rapists
• 40:37
Speaker 2: are right. We need public executions to fight crime. Text,
• 40:44
Speaker 2: I have no problem with the drag show. I don't
• 40:45
Speaker 2: want it in schools or public libraries in front of children.
• 40:48
Speaker 2: Do you want to bring porn movie filming in front
• 40:50
Speaker 2: of kids at a school, says the texter. Text, try
• 40:54
Speaker 2: watching some videos of Russians and Ukrainians getting killed by
• 40:58
Speaker 2: FPV drones. That's what we're in for when Trump invades Iran.
• 41:02
Speaker 2: American soldiers' deaths broadcast worldwide over the Internet because Trump
• 41:05
  Speaker 2: is a moron.
• 41:06
Speaker 6: And he blames the war on Ukraine.
• 41:12
Speaker 5: Text, Hegseth is a sick person. He would do anything
• 41:16
  Speaker 5: for publicity.
• 41:17
Speaker 6: We've gone from General Mattis to Pete Hegseth. That's where
• 41:22
Speaker 6: we are. I mean, it's really sad. You know, people,
• 41:28
Speaker 6: our life on this show in 12-step meetings, you know,
• 41:32
Speaker 6: you had those nice young ladies in here earlier. Our
• 41:36
Speaker 6: life is a constant search for the truth. And some
• 41:41
Speaker 6: people out there, They see Trump and they think they
• 41:46
  Speaker 6: see the truth.
• 41:47
Speaker 2: Did you happen to– you were probably flying yesterday, but
• 41:51
Speaker 2: Chris Stierwald yesterday was at the Texas State Fair on
• 41:55
Speaker 2: his show, which airs on News Nation. And he assembled
• 41:59
Speaker 2: a group of people from all different backgrounds, Republicans, Democrats, male, female,
• 42:04
Speaker 2: different races, just to kind of– to have a discussion
• 42:08
Speaker 2: and talk. It was interesting to me, and I didn't
• 42:11
Speaker 2: get to see the whole thing, but one of the
• 42:12
Speaker 2: things that I thought was very interesting, he was talking
• 42:15
Speaker 2: to a woman who was very, very liberal. And he
• 42:17
Speaker 2: asked her, he said, can you be friends, even though
• 42:20
Speaker 2: these people had never met, they were in this group,
• 42:22
Speaker 2: could you be friends with the woman beside you?
• 42:24
Speaker 5: Because the woman beside her was a Republican.
• 42:28
  Speaker 6: Conservative.
• 42:29
  Speaker 5: Yeah, was Republican.
• 42:31
Speaker 2: And she was asked, could you be friends with her?
• 42:35
Speaker 2: And the answer, Danny, astounded me because she said no.
• 42:38
Speaker 2: She said, you know, we could, and I'm kind of
• 42:40
Speaker 2: paraphrasing here, we could be cordial with each other, but
• 42:44
  Speaker 2: I can't be friends with a Republican. I can't be
• 42:46
Speaker 2: friends with conservatives because I don't trust them.
• 42:49
Speaker 5: I mean, is this is where we've gone, where we've
• 42:51
  Speaker 5: gotten now?
• 42:52
Speaker 6: There was, in Liz Cheney's book, she said that her
• 42:56
Speaker 6: mother had been friends with a woman for 60 years, 60.
• 43:05
Speaker 6: And when they had the insurrection, In January 6th, back
• 43:12
Speaker 6: in 2001, this woman who was friends with Liz Cheney,
• 43:19
Speaker 6: her mom, quit being friends with her. And Liz Cheney's mother,
• 43:27
Speaker 6: who's a very delightful lady, the late Dick Cheney's wife,
• 43:33
Speaker 6: very delightful. She tried to talk to her and tried
• 43:36
Speaker 6: to exchange views with her.
• 43:38
  Speaker 10: Mm-mm.
• 43:40
Speaker 5: And that's really sad.
• 43:41
Speaker 6: Well, they see the truth, and they think it's Trump.
• 43:44
Speaker 2: But, I mean, the fact that you can't carry– and
• 43:46
Speaker 2: in 2026, you can't carry on a conversation or be
• 43:50
Speaker 2: friends with someone who is of a different political value system.
• 43:57
Speaker 2: And her reasoning was– and I understand her reasoning, although
• 44:00
Speaker 2: I don't agree with it. Her reason was, well, I
• 44:02
Speaker 2: can't be friends with somebody because I don't trust them.
• 44:05
Speaker 2: Because Republicans want to destroy America. I cannot be friends
• 44:08
Speaker 2: with someone like that. And I'm just like, man, this
• 44:11
Speaker 2: is the craziest stuff I've ever heard in my entire life.
• 44:13
Speaker 6: That's a subjective comment. Republicans or Democrats.
• 44:18
Speaker 5: Yeah, for that matter, it could be reversed.
• 44:20
Speaker 6: It's ridiculous. We all have different views, and if we didn't,
• 44:25
Speaker 6: it'd be a pretty boring place.
• 44:28
Speaker 2: It is 9.52, the Dave Allen Show on 580 Live,
• 44:31
Speaker 2: brought to you in part by the Charleston Dirty Birds,
• 44:32
Speaker 2: West Virginia's biggest winter light festival, the Salango Law Light,
• 44:36
Speaker 2: the night presented by GoMart. coming to the ballpark starting
• 44:38
Speaker 2: November 13th. Over 2.5 million lights, carnival rides, visits with Santa,
• 44:43
Speaker 2: great food, ice skating, bumper cars, and more hours are
• 44:45

• 46:39
Speaker 2: He said it was an insurrection.
• 46:41
  Speaker 5: It was not.
• 46:42
Speaker 2: Nobody was charged or convicted on that.
• 46:46
Speaker 6: Okay. I just went by what I saw.
• 46:51
  Speaker 5: Text says, wait.
• 46:52
Speaker 2: Has anyone talked to the other woman who was the
• 46:54
Speaker 2: friend of Liz Cheney's mother to see if it was
• 46:57
  Speaker 2: actually true?
• 46:57
Speaker 5: You're going by one side.
• 47:00
Speaker 6: I'm going by Liz Cheney's book.
• 47:02
Speaker 5: Okay. But, I mean, they're saying, did anybody talk to
• 47:04
Speaker 5: the other woman is what they're saying.
• 47:08
  Speaker 6: It's a story out of a book.
• 47:11
Speaker 2: Text, how can you be friends with someone who voted
• 47:13
Speaker 2: for a person with such close ties to pedophiles that
• 47:16
Speaker 2: they do everything in their power to keep evidence of
• 47:18
Speaker 2: crime sealed? It's not Republican or Democrat or liberal and conservative.
• 47:22
Speaker 2: How can you be friends with a pedophile supporter?
• 47:25
Speaker 6: Where'd that come from?
• 47:27
Speaker 5: Donald Trump. That's what the texture is.
• 47:29
  Speaker 6: He's a pedophile supporter?
• 47:31
  Speaker 8: No.
• 47:31
Speaker 2: They're saying if you– this texture, what I'm saying here
• 47:35
Speaker 2: is that if you are a supporter of Trump, that
• 47:37
Speaker 2: you are supporting pedophilia.
• 47:42
  Speaker 6: Look, I don't like the guy, but I don't adhere
• 47:45
  Speaker 6: to that.
• 47:47
Speaker 5: Dex, it's not the politics.
• 47:48
Speaker 2: It's the racism, misogyny, fascism, and anti-trans rhetoric and their
• 47:52
Speaker 2: support of it for political goals that keeps us not
• 47:54
  Speaker 2: talking with them.
• 47:55
Speaker 6: Do you know who Andrew Solomon is? He's a columnist
• 48:01
Speaker 6: who leans both ways. He does some conservative stuff. He's
• 48:08
Speaker 6: very gay, and he is really upset that he's on
• 48:13
Speaker 6: Bill Maher a lot.
• 48:15
Speaker 5: Okay, okay, yeah, yeah, okay. I do know who you're
• 48:17
  Speaker 5: talking about.
• 48:17
Speaker 6: And he's upset that the alphabet people, LGBTQ, RSTUV, whatever
• 48:25
Speaker 6: all that is now, have hijacked the gay movement because
• 48:31
Speaker 6: they were making so much progress.
• 48:35
Speaker 5: I know exactly who you're talking about now.
• 48:37
Speaker 6: They were mainstreaming themselves, which is true. I mean, and
• 48:41
Speaker 6: most people don't know, David, that the Trump administration's full
• 48:46
Speaker 6: of them. You've got the Treasury Secretary. What's his name?
• 48:52
  Speaker 10: Besset?
• 48:52
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 48:53
Speaker 6: He's got a husband. But the speaker for the State Department,
• 48:59
Speaker 6: Tammy Bruce, she's upside down. Okay, and you've.
• 49:07
Speaker 5: Got— Upside down, Danny?
• 49:09
Speaker 6: You've got— I' ve listened to her for 30 years. I listened
• 49:12
Speaker 6: to her in the 90s when she was on KFI,
• 49:15
Speaker 6: and she was so funny. And then you've got Rick Grinnell,
• 49:19
Speaker 6: who was— his ambassador-at-large. There ain't nobody more maggot than him,
• 49:24
  Speaker 6: and he's got a husband.
• 49:27
Speaker 2: Tex, how do you be friends with someone who literally
• 49:29
Speaker 2: believes and said, I said others like me are enemies
• 49:32
Speaker 2: of this country? Just because we don't vote Republican or
• 49:34
Speaker 2: that my immigrant grandparents and friends poison the blood of
• 49:37
  Speaker 2: the country.
• 49:38
  Speaker 6: Who said that?
• 49:39
Speaker 5: The texter, Danny. I'm just reading the text, man. Come on,
• 49:41
  Speaker 5: work with me.
• 49:41
Speaker 6: Hey, I like Tammy Bruce. I was just kidding. That's
• 49:45
Speaker 6: an old adage we used to say back in the 70s.
• 49:49
Speaker 2: Text, I am a moderate Democrat with right-leaning Republican friends
• 49:52
Speaker 2: with whom I love to debate the issues.
• 49:54
Speaker 5: We never get mad.
• 49:55
Speaker 6: Why not just be friends?
• 49:56
  Speaker 5: That's weird.
• 49:57
Speaker 6: There you go. Or why do you have to... Even
• 50:00
Speaker 6: if it gets to where... One guy put his hand
• 50:04
Speaker 6: on my shoulder and told me it wasn't an interaction.
• 50:10
Speaker 6: This happened in a restaurant. I said, you're welcome to
• 50:13
Speaker 6: your opinion, but take your hand off my shoulder.
• 50:17
Speaker 5: Now, what was the context here?
• 50:19
Speaker 6: It was about the insurrection.
• 50:20
  Speaker 9: Okay.
• 50:21
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 50:22
Speaker 6: I mean, that's all. Oh, by the way, you got
• 50:25
Speaker 6: to go see The Social Reckoning. About Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook.
• 50:32
  Speaker 15: Oh, gosh.
• 50:33
Speaker 6: You got to go see it.
• 50:35
  Speaker 5: Okay.
• 50:36
  Speaker 10: Text.
• 50:39
Speaker 2: Dave, glad to hear Mayor Danny on the show today.
• 50:41
Speaker 2: He's a man that has a world of historical knowledge.
• 50:44
Speaker 2: That just means you're old.
• 50:45
Speaker 5: That's what that means, Danny.
• 50:48
Speaker 6: But I'm not upside down.
• 50:50
Speaker 2: Text, this was a quote from Joe Manchin somebody sent me.
• 50:55
Speaker 2: I'm asking the Democratic Party, you better start looking at
• 50:57
Speaker 2: how you lost people like me. I've been a Democrat
• 51:00
Speaker 2: all my life, and now I can't even identify with
• 51:02
  Speaker 2: the far-left ideology.
• 51:04
Speaker 5: Joe Manchin nailed it. I left the Democratic Party years ago.
• 51:07
Speaker 6: Well, and Joe Manchin's got a national audience, and he's
• 51:11
Speaker 6: my friend, and I agree with him totally.
• 51:15
Speaker 5: All right. Hang out with me one second.
• 51:17
  Speaker 4: Mr.
• 51:17
Speaker 2: Meadows is back from a beach somewhere. We were having
• 51:21
Speaker 2: all kinds of fun with.
• 51:22
Speaker 5: You when you were gone. Is that a fact?
• 51:24
Speaker 2: Well, we were watching, you know, everybody was looking at
• 51:26
Speaker 2: the hurricane, which I don't think affected where you were.
• 51:29
  Speaker 5: It wasn't.
• 51:29
Speaker 2: But we were saying TJ's out with his spreadsheets and
• 51:33
Speaker 2: he's got probabilities and things of that nature. Why have
• 51:36
Speaker 2: you angered everybody with this commentary today?
• 51:39
Speaker 5: Oh, I don't know. Because I'm willing to say... Something
• 51:43
Speaker 5: about something that's controversial, probably. It's a suggestion. Watch the thing.
• 51:47
Speaker 5: Don't watch the thing. I don't think you should.
• 51:48
Speaker 6: He's against it, right?
• 51:50
Speaker 5: Yeah. You're against the live streaming of the.
• 51:52
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 51:53
Speaker 6: I'm against him being fried. Put him in ADX. I
• 51:57
  Speaker 6: like Danny.
• 51:58
Speaker 5: Put him in ADX.
• 51:59
Speaker 6: You know what ADX is?
• 52:01
Speaker 5: No clue. TJ, will you look it up? I'll look
• 52:04
  Speaker 5: it up.
• 52:04
  Speaker 6: ADX Florence, Colorado.
• 52:06
  Speaker 5: All right.
• 52:07
  Speaker 6: All right.
• 52:07
Speaker 2: TJ is back with Talk Line coming up at 10.06.
• 52:10
Speaker 2: I'm back later today with Metro News Midday.
• 52:13
Speaker 5: Till then, have fun. Love somebody. Thanks, Danny.
• 52:26
Speaker 1: WCHSAM, W243DRFM Charleston, and W283AQ Crosslanes.
