- 1:50Speaker 3: Friday morning, interesting weather because you know, I live in
- 1:55Speaker 3: Putnam County and zero snow, nothing whatsoever, the grass and
- 2:00Speaker 3: the car is nothing. Driving I sixty four this morning
- 2:03Speaker 3: and I get to about Dunbar and it's like there's
- 2:05Speaker 3: snow now. Granted this is not the Great Blizzard. There's
- 2:08Speaker 3: what you know, maybe half a nanch off even that
- 2:10Speaker 3: out there. Uh, but just interesting that old John Amos,
- 2:14Speaker 3: you know that dividing line that kills all the snow
- 2:16Speaker 3: for Putnam County. Happened that yet again? All right, So
- 2:19Speaker 3: it is championship week in the Charleston. Two games on
- 2:21Speaker 3: the slate today, two tomorrow, Tom Braggs who have joined
- 2:23Speaker 3: Sir momentarily to talk about that. Of course, the big
- 2:25Speaker 3: game of local significance, the Nitro game, the Wildcats taking
- 2:29Speaker 3: on Princeton tomorrow night at Lateleyfield. We're gonna talk later
- 2:31Speaker 3: in the show with Nitro City Council and Joe Murphy
- 2:33Speaker 3: who just happened to play on that Nitro team from
- 2:36Speaker 3: nineteen ninety eight that went undefeated in one of state championship.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Susie Salisbury from the Charleston Airy Alliance is here, and
- 2:41Speaker 3: Angie Gillenwater with our doubt me. Please put it the

- 3:02Speaker 3: it is the Single A game between Wheeling Central and
- 3:04Speaker 3: clay Bettel. Tomorrow at noon the Double A title game
- 3:07Speaker 3: Bluefield and Frankfurt. And then it's seven of my night,
- 3:10Speaker 3: the big one for our area, the Triple A championship
- 3:12Speaker 3: game Morgantown and Nitro. Tom Bragg here to talk about.
- 3:16Speaker 3: It's a good morning, sir, and welcome to the show.
- 3:18Speaker 3: How you doing. I'm good, David. How are you this?
- 3:20Speaker 3: I am doing? Finding you and I were talking off
- 3:22Speaker 3: the air that when Nitro won the championship, the only
- 3:26Speaker 3: other football championship that they won nineteen ninety eight, that
- 3:29Speaker 3: undefeated team, and we're going to talk to remember that
- 3:31Speaker 3: team coming up a little bit later on. But you
- 3:32Speaker 3: were a student there at Nitro at the time. Yeah,
- 3:34Speaker 3: I was a ninth grader. Was that your first year
- 3:36Speaker 3: in ninth grader? Your second year in ninth That was
- 3:37Speaker 3: my first year in ninth grade? Okay, because we did
- 3:40Speaker 3: a couple of extra years in college, but we we
- 3:42Speaker 3: did it. We took him in order in high school.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I got you, I got you.
- 3:45Speaker 5: Yeah, that was a It was just an incredible season
- 3:48Speaker 5: of football. It was really uh a gift and a curse.
- 3:51Speaker 5: I think you draw all the lines back to how
- 3:54Speaker 5: did I get to where I'm at right now? It
- 3:56Speaker 5: probably goes back to that ninety eight football season, falling
- 3:58Speaker 5: in love with high school football, West Virginia high school football.
- 4:01Speaker 3: What a run it was on.
- 4:02Speaker 5: It'll be cool to listen after I leave out of
- 4:04Speaker 5: here when you bring Joe on. There's so many names
- 4:06Speaker 5: coming back to your faces you haven't seen or heard
- 4:08Speaker 5: from in years and years. With with the Wildcats being
- 4:11Speaker 5: back in the state title game, they've played for one
- 4:14Speaker 5: since then. They lost to Morgantown in overtime in two
- 4:17Speaker 5: thousand and five, but they beat the Mohegans at nineteen
- 4:20Speaker 5: ninety eight, that great Jr.
- 4:21Speaker 3: House team.
- 4:22Speaker 5: It's it's been a fun week, especially having the games
- 4:25Speaker 5: back in Charleston so there's not a lot of travel
- 4:27Speaker 5: for the Nitro folks. It'll be it should be a
- 4:30Speaker 5: pretty raucous crowd tomorrow evening over at Laidley Field with
- 4:33Speaker 5: Nitro getting essentially a home game here in the Canall
- 4:36Speaker 5: Valley for the state title.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, and that was the Jr. House, Yes, right, that's
- 4:39Speaker 3: what it's goods when somebody sent a text about that,
- 4:41Speaker 3: talk about that what it was like as a student there.
- 4:45Speaker 3: We'll talk to Joe about being being the player, but
- 4:47Speaker 3: just as a as an average student Nitro High School,
- 4:50Speaker 3: because I know, you know when your team is good,
- 4:55Speaker 3: even as a student, there's a feeling around the school
- 4:57Speaker 3: when teams win championship.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yeah, and it was I think on another level because Jr.
- 5:02Speaker 5: Was chasing all of those national records that year. He
- 5:05Speaker 5: was getting recruited by every I mean you saw. I
- 5:08Speaker 5: mean this is late nineties, So who were the heavy hitters,
- 5:11Speaker 5: the Florida States, the Nebraska is, the Florida is just
- 5:14Speaker 5: everybody who was everybody in college football is trying to
- 5:16Speaker 5: get this guy to come play for him. It was
- 5:18Speaker 5: like the Beatles were in town every Friday night. That
- 5:21Speaker 5: that game against DuPont and DuPont's last year before they
- 5:24Speaker 5: consolidated and became riverside. But the game at DuPont at Nitro,
- 5:28Speaker 5: I don't the attendance records probably still the attendance record
- 5:31Speaker 5: I've never They were cars parked all the way to
- 5:33Speaker 5: Poka basically still people still walking back to their cars
- 5:36Speaker 5: now that still still are. But the story I always
- 5:40Speaker 5: tell about JR. Houses he was this rock star. Everybody
- 5:43Speaker 5: knew who JR.
- 5:44Speaker 6: Was.
- 5:45Speaker 5: It was my second or third day of school as
- 5:46Speaker 5: a ninth grader. I had to do a schedule change.
- 5:48Speaker 5: So I'm in the office. Jr's in there as an
- 5:50Speaker 5: office aid as as a senior superstar quarterback probably is
- 5:54Speaker 5: at a lot of schools, and JR. Is coming through
- 5:57Speaker 5: and he's like, I'm going to darry Queen. You want
- 5:58Speaker 5: to go to Dairy Queen with me? I got to
- 6:00Speaker 5: ride along with dairy with JR. To be the guy
- 6:02Speaker 5: who carried all the Dairy Queen back toward the office people.
- 6:05Speaker 5: And he bought me ice cream too, And I was like, Wow,
- 6:06Speaker 5: what a nice guy. And still like JR. Doesn't know me,
- 6:09Speaker 5: but I can go to a Reds game and get
- 6:12Speaker 5: his attention and say, hey, I went to the He'll
- 6:13Speaker 5: think the second game.
- 6:14Speaker 7: He loves think.
- 6:15Speaker 5: I think he think he's not going to be with
- 6:16Speaker 5: the Reds next game. But you know, you know, he's
- 6:18Speaker 5: just awesome, dude. It was, Uh, it was just an
- 6:21Speaker 5: incredible experience. Like I said, it's when I fell in
- 6:23Speaker 5: love with high school football and the reason that you
- 6:26Speaker 5: poor people still.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Have to listen to me talk about it to this day.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Where you missed an opportunity, Tom, is that if you
- 6:31Speaker 3: went to a Reds game when Jr. Was coaching third base,
- 6:34Speaker 3: you could have actually gone onto the field and said, hey,
- 6:36Speaker 3: after the game, I owe you some dairy queens since
- 6:39Speaker 3: you bought for me. That that would have been. That
- 6:40Speaker 3: would have been stellar, That would have been Yeah, I
- 6:42Speaker 3: need to bring you along for those. All right, let's
- 6:44Speaker 3: talk about these games. Yeah, some good games come up.
- 6:47Speaker 3: The Quad A title game actually kicks off at at
- 6:50Speaker 3: noon today Morgantown Martinsborg.
- 6:53Speaker 5: Talk about that, well, it's an interesting man. Hold on, no,
- 6:56Speaker 5: that's right, that's correct out there, that's that's the first
- 6:58Speaker 5: game for A. And I said what I said earlier
- 7:01Speaker 5: was Morganhown was playing Nitro to want it.
- 7:03Speaker 3: No, no, no, no, Metro plays Princeton tomorrow. I got it.
- 7:06Speaker 5: I got in the last game. The first game is
- 7:08Speaker 5: today at noon Morgantown Martinsburg in Class four A. And
- 7:11Speaker 5: I think it's a really interesting game. It's the first
- 7:13Speaker 5: time Morgantown's been back in the state championship since they
- 7:16Speaker 5: wanted in two thousand and five when they beat Nitro.
- 7:18Speaker 5: And you know, it's a proud program. They've got an
- 7:21Speaker 5: outstanding quarterback sophomore named Maddox Twig. He's a guy that
- 7:24Speaker 5: a lot of people have tabbed as potentially the Kennedy
- 7:27Speaker 5: Award winner that'll come out here in the next couple
- 7:29Speaker 5: of weeks. But the matchup there against Martinsburg, it's a
- 7:33Speaker 5: tough one. You know, Martinsburg. Maybe at the beginning of
- 7:35Speaker 5: the season, people looked at some of the results and thought, Okay,
- 7:38Speaker 5: Martinsburg's still good, but they're not the Martinsburg that we've
- 7:41Speaker 5: known over the last decade two decades almost going on now.
- 7:45Speaker 5: But here we are. It's state championship weekend. Martinsburg's in
- 7:48Speaker 5: the mix and it's hard to pick against the Bulldogs
- 7:50Speaker 5: when you get to this this time of year. Dave
- 7:51Speaker 5: Walker and that coaching staff and those players have been
- 7:55Speaker 5: around the block a time or two. They are regular
- 7:57Speaker 5: fixtures at this point in the season. So I think
- 7:59Speaker 5: it's a it's it's a tough hill to climb for Morgantown.
- 8:02Speaker 5: I think they have the top seed, but I think
- 8:05Speaker 5: as far as top seeds go, they are certainly vulnerable
- 8:08Speaker 5: for the quote unquote upset against Martinsburg.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Today, all right, and then at noon we've got the matchup.
- 8:16Speaker 3: That's the noon gameclock seven o'clock. I don't know where
- 8:19Speaker 3: my head is today. It's it's still watching the Cowboys
- 8:21Speaker 3: by Detroit. That's what the problem. So the seven o'clock
- 8:24Speaker 3: game should be a good one tonight between Wheeling Central
- 8:27Speaker 3: and Clay Beateel.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Yeah, that's another interesting game. Wheeling Central probably prohibitive favorites
- 8:31Speaker 5: coming in the maroon nights. The number one seed have
- 8:33Speaker 5: been very good all season long. Claybtel, that's a fun
- 8:36Speaker 5: story though. You know, it's kind of the overlooked program,
- 8:40Speaker 5: the overlooked school up in that part of the state,
- 8:43Speaker 5: in Mond County. They had a just an awesome atmosphere
- 8:46Speaker 5: last week, a big rivalry game against Cameron in the
- 8:49Speaker 5: semi final game. CBS get the win in that And
- 8:52Speaker 5: is there a cooler nickname in the state than CD.
- 8:54Speaker 5: They've got to be on the list. I mean, the
- 8:56Speaker 5: Polka Dots, the Man Hill certainly have something to say
- 8:59Speaker 5: about it. But the CEB's what a great name. That's
- 9:03Speaker 5: it's gonna be a tough game for them. It would
- 9:05Speaker 5: be a big upset. I think if Clavetel was able
- 9:07Speaker 5: to win this evening. But that's why they play the games.
- 9:09Speaker 5: They've got a little momentum. I'm certain they'll have. They
- 9:13Speaker 5: might have been able to partner up with Morgantown. Hiw,
- 9:15Speaker 5: I get a deal on some buses. Just bring everybody
- 9:17Speaker 5: down here. The folks over on the university half of
- 9:19Speaker 5: town might not be there, but a whole lot of
- 9:21Speaker 5: folks coming down from that part of the state.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Well, unless remember the mounth in your basketball teams playing
- 9:25Speaker 3: the night a clock over to college. There's that too,
- 9:28Speaker 3: so you probably could have teamed up there, all right,
- 9:29Speaker 3: And then we will move ahead to we up to
- 9:32Speaker 3: Bluefield and Frankfort.
- 9:34Speaker 5: That's again, I can't Oh, that's gonna be a good game.
- 9:36Speaker 5: There's state championship games. They all probably should be good games.
- 9:39Speaker 5: That's a really interesting matchup. You know, Matt and I
- 9:42Speaker 5: went up made the long trip and saw Frankfort play
- 9:44Speaker 5: against Herbert Hoover this season a game Frankfurt beat Herbert
- 9:47Speaker 5: Hoover in and kind of surprised us. You know, Frankfort
- 9:50Speaker 5: is the defending state champion in double A. But they
- 9:51Speaker 5: graduated a lot of kids. A lot of people thought
- 9:53Speaker 5: they they would still be good, but they might take
- 9:55Speaker 5: a step back, but they're riding, I think going on
- 9:58Speaker 5: a thirty game win streak right now. They are defeated
- 10:00Speaker 5: last year, undefeated this year. Hard to pick against them.
- 10:03Speaker 5: They run a single wing kind of an option attack
- 10:05Speaker 5: that's hard to defend. Talking with Fred Persinger this week, though,
- 10:08Speaker 5: he said the key to that one will be if
- 10:10Speaker 5: Frankfurt can keep up with blue Field speed. Bluefield is
- 10:14Speaker 5: one of the fastest teams in the state. If they
- 10:15Speaker 5: can get guys to the edges, it might be a
- 10:18Speaker 5: long day for some of those Frankfort defenders. So I
- 10:20Speaker 5: think that's going to be a really good game. I
- 10:21Speaker 5: would probably tab Frankfort as the favorite there, but I
- 10:23Speaker 5: think that's going to be a close one.
- 10:24Speaker 3: All right, let's wrap it up because we're running. We
- 10:26Speaker 3: got to give away a dog here, you know, so
- 10:28Speaker 3: we've got to get to the adoptee. Please better the week.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Let's talk about that game between Nitro tomorrow Night of Brent.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Another matchup of two teams that Matt and I saw
- 10:36Speaker 5: play against Herbert Hoover this year. They're both really, really good.
- 10:39Speaker 5: They do a lot of similar things and two of
- 10:42Speaker 5: the most I mean, throw receiver out of it just
- 10:44Speaker 5: two of the most exciting best players in the state
- 10:47Speaker 5: flat out between Princeton's Brad Mosser and Nitro's Malachai Thompson,
- 10:51Speaker 5: the receiver that signed with WU this week. That one's
- 10:54Speaker 5: going to be fireworks. I wouldn't be surprised if that
- 10:56Speaker 5: was like a fifty to forty type game.
- 10:58Speaker 3: It's going to be a shootout. Should be a fun one.
- 10:59Speaker 3: All right, Tom, appreciate you being here, my absolutely, Dave,
- 11:02Speaker 3: thanks for having men. What are we gonna do with
- 11:03Speaker 3: you next week? I mean, I don't know.
- 11:05Speaker 5: We can talk about the World Cup draw that's coming
- 11:07Speaker 5: out today. Maybe a little sock can yea, we absolutely can.
- 11:11Speaker 5: I know we can talk about these games that just happened.
- 11:13Speaker 5: I know that's your thing, but not mine. But I
- 11:16Speaker 5: knew it was a button. You've got some buttons.
- 11:18Speaker 3: You can educate me.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Here you go.
- 11:20Speaker 3: We'll spend the off season teaching Dave soccer. Yeah, there
- 11:22Speaker 3: you go. All right, Tom Bragg, appreciate you being here,
- 11:24Speaker 3: my friend. Thanks a lot. It's nine to eighteen a

- 11:49Speaker 3: the Week, Angie, Good morning, Welcome to the show.
- 11:52Speaker 7: Good morning.
- 11:53Speaker 8: It is a rather chilly and white fried.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Hey I saw, I told the listeners earlier. You know
- 11:58Speaker 3: where I live in Putnam County, there was not a
- 12:01Speaker 3: single flake of snow, none whatsoever. You're missing, No, I'm
- 12:05Speaker 3: not missing again. This is not the Great Blizzard of
- 12:08Speaker 3: nineteen ninety three here, Okay, We're just talking about a
- 12:10Speaker 3: little little snow in the grass and on the cardtops
- 12:14Speaker 3: and whatever. Do you have a good Thanksgiving?
- 12:17Speaker 8: I did, other than being sick. Whatever dreams have gone around,
- 12:20Speaker 8: I have caught them.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Well.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Hopefully. I know you sound a little stuffed up even now,
- 12:24Speaker 3: so hopefully you'll you're back on the men soon, all right,
- 12:27Speaker 3: as always? Are not me? Please put it the week?
- 12:29Speaker 3: Picture posted on Dave Island Radio and Facebook, also the
- 12:31Speaker 3: WCCHS Network Facebook page and at Dave a seventy on
- 12:35Speaker 3: X It's r Low. Tell us about r Low so.
- 12:41Speaker 8: Arlow is looks like just like your classic American family dog,
- 12:46Speaker 8: kind of looks like a retriever mix of sorts. He's
- 12:49Speaker 8: great with kids. He has lived with cats before and
- 12:53Speaker 8: done well with them in the home, and he loves
- 12:55Speaker 8: to play with other dogs. If you look at his
- 12:58Speaker 8: picture on the Facebook page, you can't quite tell that
- 13:01Speaker 8: he is missing one of his back legs. I don't
- 13:04Speaker 8: have any information on as to why that is. I'm
- 13:07Speaker 8: pretty sure he just came to our shoulder like that.
- 13:10Speaker 8: But he is an excellent, excellent dog, very smart, two
- 13:14Speaker 8: years old, neutered, update on vaccines and if you don't
- 13:18Speaker 8: get up to the shelter during our adoption special going
- 13:21Speaker 8: until the fifteenth, his fee is sponsored until he gets adopted.
- 13:25Speaker 8: So literally a dog that you cannot miss out on.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Arlow is a great looking dog. And again his pictures
- 13:31Speaker 3: posted over on our on my Facebook page, the WCHS
- 13:34Speaker 3: Network Facebook page as well as that Dave a seventy
- 13:36Speaker 3: on X Arlow. We'll get back to talking about Arlow,
- 13:39Speaker 3: but I want to find out are you going to
- 13:40Speaker 3: be out and about anywhere this weekend, on this wintery weekend.
- 13:44Speaker 8: So we actually have petcos south Ridge is hosting of
- 13:48Speaker 8: tech pictures with Santa and we will be attending assisting
- 13:51Speaker 8: with that, but also have a couple adoptable animals with

- 13:57Speaker 8: believe that starts at two pm on this Saturday. The
- 14:00Speaker 8: award the six.
- 14:02Speaker 3: Tomorrow just say tomorrow, Angie, tomorrow. Yeah, so that's where
- 14:07Speaker 3: it's where you guys are going to be there. Uh,
- 14:09Speaker 3: I gotta I tent you a text the other night.
- 14:11Speaker 3: You know, I got a visit earlier in the week
- 14:14Speaker 3: from our big success story from I mean they've we've
- 14:16Speaker 3: had so many success stories, but this is the one.
- 14:19Speaker 3: I've only had one that went on to become an
- 14:21Speaker 3: international uh cyber superstar.
- 14:25Speaker 9: Uh.
- 14:25Speaker 3: And that's Crewton.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Uh.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Crewton came to the studio, his handlers, his family brought
- 14:31Speaker 3: him in to see me earlier this week and they
- 14:33Speaker 3: brought me a nice little Christmas gift as well. But Crewton,
- 14:35Speaker 3: I do on two three years ago, we get Kreuton

- 14:44Speaker 3: got to see Krewton earlier this week.
- 14:47Speaker 8: I'm so glad to hear that. I actually got to
- 14:49Speaker 8: see Hannah yesterday in person and we were talking about
- 14:53Speaker 8: the show and that you've got to see Cruton and
- 14:55Speaker 8: she has given me all the background info on that.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Oh yeah, so glad.
- 14:58Speaker 3: But you guys had a little Chronicles of Cruton if
- 15:01Speaker 3: you're on Instagram, which I'm not, but they tell me

- 17:58Speaker 3: and unfortunately she would already disconnected with her when I
- 18:01Speaker 3: got the text. I will try to get an answer,
- 18:03Speaker 3: but a textor wanted to know about Buddy. So dog,
- 18:06Speaker 3: it's it's it's really a gruesome story. And I was
- 18:08Speaker 3: looking I always look around at the Knaw Charleston Newman
- 18:11Speaker 3: Association's Facebook page before I do the show, and Buddy
- 18:16Speaker 3: was a dog that was hit by a car and
- 18:18Speaker 3: his eyes basically popped out. Uh, and they've got a picture,
- 18:23Speaker 3: you know. It's it's one of those. I know we
- 18:25Speaker 3: want to get the dog adopted, but I really wish
- 18:27Speaker 3: I hadn't seen the picture. But I don't know for
- 18:30Speaker 3: your to answer the Textra's question, I don't know how
- 18:32Speaker 3: Buddy's doing. I will reach out to Angie at some point.
- 18:36Speaker 3: When I turned the show over to Susie Salisbury. Here
- 18:38Speaker 3: in a couple of moments, I'll reach out to Angie
- 18:40Speaker 3: and I'll try to find out an update on Buddy's condition.
- 18:42Speaker 3: The aforementioned Susie Salisbury, Charleston Mary Allan says here, Hey,
- 18:45Speaker 3: doing good morning, just fine, thank you on this cold,
- 18:48Speaker 3: kind of snowy December morning. It's it's wonderful. It's just
- 18:53Speaker 3: the season. That's what it's supposed to do. Even it's
- 18:56Speaker 3: a it's a very small amount and to get you
- 18:58Speaker 3: in the Christmas spirit. The reason you're here today, we'll
- 19:00Speaker 3: talk about this window decorating contest. You get go on.
- 19:03Speaker 11: This is our annual we've probably done it now for
- 19:06Speaker 11: I don't know eight or nine years, and this is
- 19:08Speaker 11: our Holloway Holiday Window Display Contest. So this is a
- 19:13Speaker 11: way that we have found, you know, with Charleston has
- 19:17Speaker 11: become a Christmas town well, no doubt. And you know
- 19:21Speaker 11: we're always looking for ways how can we tie the
- 19:23Speaker 11: businesses directly into a lot of the celebrations. So this
- 19:27Speaker 11: was a way for the businesses who are already decorating
- 19:31Speaker 11: for the holidays anyway, and to have a little friendly competition.
- 19:36Speaker 11: So we started the Holiday window contest. It's free and
- 19:41Speaker 11: that's in thanks in part to Applachimpower, who's our supporter
- 19:46Speaker 11: for the event, and you register and then we have
- 19:50Speaker 11: a best in show, So we have judges that are
- 19:52Speaker 11: going out over the next week and judging a best
- 19:54Speaker 11: in show.
- 19:55Speaker 3: But we also have the people's.
- 19:56Speaker 11: Choice, and that's really what I want to talk about
- 19:58Speaker 11: this morning. And this is where where you the listeners,
- 20:02Speaker 11: can pick what your favorite window is in each one
- 20:05Speaker 11: of the neighborhoods. So we have East End, west Side,
- 20:08Speaker 11: Downtown Canas sitting and we have different windows in each
- 20:15Speaker 11: one of those towns. We have about thirty one or
- 20:17Speaker 11: thirty two of them this year. And you can go
- 20:18Speaker 11: around and look at the windows and you will see
- 20:21Speaker 11: a poster in the window. And now I noticed yours
- 20:23Speaker 11: was on the front door this morning.
- 20:25Speaker 3: We talked about hours a little bit later on because
- 20:27Speaker 3: go ahead.
- 20:28Speaker 11: There's a QR code on there, so you just hold
- 20:30Speaker 11: your phone up to it, get the QR code and
- 20:32Speaker 11: you can vote either for that window or whatever window.
- 20:35Speaker 3: That you select.
- 20:36Speaker 11: But we really encourage, we want the community to come
- 20:39Speaker 11: out and really support this vote for your favorite window
- 20:44Speaker 11: in each one of those neighborhoods. You can vote for
- 20:47Speaker 11: all all in the neighborhoods and let us let us
- 20:51Speaker 11: honor those businesses with their People's Choice Award. When we
- 20:54Speaker 11: were putting the posters out, it was really fun walking
- 20:56Speaker 11: around to a lot of businesses. And I mean these
- 21:00Speaker 11: pysicists take it pretty serious.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the.
- 21:02Speaker 11: Ones that have won in the past, you will see
- 21:04Speaker 11: their plaque like right over the register and it's it's
- 21:08Speaker 11: a very visible place and they're they're quite proud. They
- 21:11Speaker 11: put a lot of time and energy and I'm sure
- 21:14Speaker 11: financial resources into making their windows the best that they
- 21:18Speaker 11: can be.

- 21:58Speaker 3: I don't I don't know that we have done this
- 22:00Speaker 3: in the past. And I saw some people out there working,
- 22:04Speaker 3: I thought, well, what are they what are they doing we?
- 22:07Speaker 3: I mean, it looks really good what we did. And
- 22:10Speaker 3: I'm not trying to sway voters in any way. I'm
- 22:13Speaker 3: just saying it looks really good and it's a whole scene.
- 22:16Speaker 3: And there are certain members of the staff that made
- 22:19Speaker 3: the cut to be on the window. I did not.
- 22:22Speaker 3: Woody Woods is on the window. I said that we
- 22:26Speaker 3: missed an opportunity by not putting Chris Lawrence up in
- 22:29Speaker 3: a tree aiming at the reindeer, because mister outdoors, we
- 22:33Speaker 3: really missed an opportunity there. But now it's it's awesome.
- 22:36Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's really it's really good.
- 22:39Speaker 11: It is and it's a team building exercise. We've seen
- 22:42Speaker 11: a lot of the businesses that this gives their employees
- 22:46Speaker 11: something to really rally, rally around and come up with,
- 22:49Speaker 11: you know, how they they what makes them proud of
- 22:53Speaker 11: working in that particular establishment.
- 22:55Speaker 3: And I think it's really interesting what you said, and
- 22:57Speaker 3: I have said this, and the mayor said this, and
- 22:59Speaker 3: Tim Brady and others have said this about how Charleston
- 23:02Speaker 3: is really kind of becoming a Christmas city, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 3: with this Lango law, like the night which is going
- 23:08Speaker 3: to be continuing through the first of the year, with
- 23:11Speaker 3: everything going on city Center. It's like Plaza, the Holly
- 23:14Speaker 3: Jolly Brawley and so on. The Christmas Parade is one
- 23:17Speaker 3: week from yesterday, It'll be next Thursday night. So yeah,
- 23:20Speaker 3: it's I mean the market, Capital market, what they do,
- 23:22Speaker 3: series events and uh and so just it's it's it's
- 23:26Speaker 3: a Christmas town, man, it really is.
- 23:27Speaker 11: It's really fun and we are really honored at the
- 23:30Speaker 11: Trusty Area Alliance to you know, be able to really
- 23:34Speaker 11: try to pull the businesses in through you know, pretty
- 23:38Speaker 11: simple is a pretty simple promotion, but a lot of fun.
- 23:43Speaker 3: And it's it's just.
- 23:46Speaker 11: It's exciting to see the quality of these displays. I
- 23:51Speaker 11: mean many of them are just remarkable.
- 23:54Speaker 3: Well, and I know this is not necessarily your thing,
- 23:56Speaker 3: but going back, I want to mention about Holly Jolly
- 23:58Speaker 3: Bradley when This thing started with the trees a couple
- 24:00Speaker 3: of years ago. I think they had like eleven and
- 24:02Speaker 3: I think it's one hundred and sixty eight trees that
- 24:05Speaker 3: they've got this year. Over two million lights, well over
- 24:07Speaker 3: two million lights over at Gomart Ballpark for light to night.
- 24:10Speaker 3: So I mean, this town's coming to live for Christmas.
- 24:13Speaker 3: It really is.
- 24:14Speaker 11: And just personally it's provided like we have a lot
- 24:19Speaker 11: of folks that have come in or from here that
- 24:21Speaker 11: don't live here anymore. They come back and they're like, hey,
- 24:25Speaker 11: will you take us downtown? Will you take us to
- 24:27Speaker 11: the lights? We want to go. We want to visit
- 24:30Speaker 11: Capital Market. We always loved Capital Market at Christmas time
- 24:33Speaker 11: with the trees and the decorations.
- 24:35Speaker 3: Was there My wife and I were there last week.
- 24:37Speaker 11: Yeah, And I'm like, well, yeah, but you've got to
- 24:39Speaker 11: go around and do the window display competition too, see.
- 24:43Speaker 3: And how many different businesses did you have? Thirty one
- 24:45Speaker 3: thirty one different businesses? Okay, and you said they're just
- 24:49Speaker 3: like everything else, so many people are competitive, and so
- 24:53Speaker 3: they are very competitive. Yes, we had a textures that
- 24:56Speaker 3: I remember when store windows used to look like Higbees
- 24:58Speaker 3: at the beginning of a Christmas and I'm only fifty two,
- 25:01Speaker 3: so it's the Texter. There you go, there you go.
- 25:03Speaker 3: So that's what we're we're trying to keep that alive.
- 25:05Speaker 3: What are the dates for it again? How long is
- 25:07Speaker 3: People's Choice?
- 25:08Speaker 11: Voting is opened now and the closest December the seventeenth,
- 25:12Speaker 11: and then on the Charleston Area Alliance Facebook page, we
- 25:14Speaker 11: will announce the winners on Friday, December nineteenth.
- 25:18Speaker 3: And did you mention what the winners get? They get
- 25:21Speaker 3: a plaque? A plaque okay, okay, yes, and bragging rights
- 25:24Speaker 3: and bragging rights, which is what it's all about. What
- 25:26Speaker 3: else is are you working on at the Charleston Alliance
- 25:28Speaker 3: these days? What else is that you're at?
- 25:30Speaker 11: You know, lots of great things. We actually yesterday just
- 25:33Speaker 11: hosted a day long Leadership Canal Valley Session. We were
- 25:36Speaker 11: up at Carver and Malden and the Upper Canal Valley area,
- 25:41Speaker 11: so that was really good. We're continuing that through May,
- 25:45Speaker 11: and there's just a wide variety of community and economic
- 25:49Speaker 11: development programs going. And you know, we're still doing the
- 25:53Speaker 11: business after hours and getting ready for issues and Eggs
- 25:57Speaker 11: in January. I'm sure you'll probably have ma back on
- 26:00Speaker 11: about that. Yeah, we get a little bit closer, so
- 26:02Speaker 11: we're staying busy.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Well, that's that's what it's all. We had a texture,
- 26:06Speaker 3: it says, a Christmas staple tradition. I really wanted to
- 26:08Speaker 3: see brought back Santa and his sleigh going around the
- 26:11Speaker 3: roof of the old Charleston National Bank building. I so
- 26:13Speaker 3: want my grandchildren to witness that officially made it the
- 26:16Speaker 3: holiday season in Charleston. Talk about that for those people
- 26:18Speaker 3: that may not know about what you know about it,
- 26:19Speaker 3: because obviously as soon as I read the text you
- 26:21Speaker 3: you lit up.
- 26:22Speaker 11: Yes, I remember that as a child so vividly, because
- 26:27Speaker 11: that's when you knew the holidays were here.
- 26:30Speaker 3: When you saw Santa and the slat, that's when Christmas
- 26:33Speaker 3: didn't start in September like exactly that.
- 26:36Speaker 11: And the it was a tree or star I think
- 26:40Speaker 11: on the newspaper building, and then the BB and T
- 26:43Speaker 11: building had.
- 26:44Speaker 3: The big tree.
- 26:44Speaker 11: Those to me were the three markers that the holidays
- 26:48Speaker 11: were here.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I appreciate you informing the people about that. Now it
- 26:52Speaker 3: is a we've been talking about it all week. What
- 26:54Speaker 3: a busy weekend it is. You're in Charleston. Of course
- 26:56Speaker 3: it's you got the championships going on first game at
- 26:58Speaker 3: noon today. A lot of local emphasis on that seven
- 27:01Speaker 3: o'clock game tomorrow night because it's Nitro, you know, Nitro
- 27:04Speaker 3: and Princeton playing for the Triple A Championship tomorrow night.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Uh So, our and I had on Metro News midday,
- 27:10Speaker 3: we had the Mayor Good one on yesterday, and we
- 27:12Speaker 3: had Tim Brady on and our our hope is is
- 27:14Speaker 3: that when these people come in from and we got
- 27:17Speaker 3: a good cross section of the state that's coming in,
- 27:19Speaker 3: you know, for these games, coming from all areas, is
- 27:21Speaker 3: that they won't just go to the game and go home.
- 27:23Speaker 3: And we and and and we know they won't because
- 27:26Speaker 3: that's just not what people do. You know. We're hoping
- 27:28Speaker 3: that they'll go to Capital Market, that they'll go downtown,
- 27:32Speaker 3: and more importantly, that they'll shop and go to these
- 27:34Speaker 3: local restaurants while they're.
- 27:35Speaker 11: Here, exactly exactly, And we want them to vote in
- 27:39Speaker 11: the people's choice as well.
- 27:40Speaker 3: You know here that's actually not a bad idea because
- 27:43Speaker 3: they may not know the particular businesses, and they may
- 27:46Speaker 3: they may not be biased, so you know, they're they're
- 27:49Speaker 3: just voting you know, on what they like, not necessarily
- 27:52Speaker 3: on Well that's my uncle, you know our Princeville, So
- 27:55Speaker 3: I hope they do.
- 27:56Speaker 11: And then don't forget the WVU.
- 27:57Speaker 3: Basketball next thing. Yeah, six o'clock tomorrow night, the Mountaineers
- 28:01Speaker 3: and the Demi Deacons. Yeah. And the weather actually, I
- 28:05Speaker 3: mean it is December. It is going to be cold,
- 28:07Speaker 3: it's going to be cloudy, but it could be a
- 28:08Speaker 3: lot worse, you know. And we got all these Christmas
- 28:11Speaker 3: parades that are going on and we'll talk about that
- 28:13Speaker 3: a little bit later on. So a lot of the
- 28:16Speaker 3: things going on, all right. Another text for you're popular.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Is there a map of the windows anywhere?
- 28:22Speaker 11: There is not a map, but on the Charleston Area
- 28:24Speaker 11: Alliance Facebook page you will find the listing of all
- 28:27Speaker 11: of them with the addresses.
- 28:28Speaker 3: There you go. That's as good as a map, right there. Yep,
- 28:31Speaker 3: Zusie Sawsbury, Charleston areawli. I appreciate you being here. Thanks
- 28:34Speaker 3: a lot, Thank you very much for having me. Dave

- 32:27Speaker 3: or another one. Joe Murphy was on that team. He's
- 32:30Speaker 3: now a Nitro City councilman. He's a business leader, youth
- 32:32Speaker 3: sports leader, and he joins us now via the Big
- 32:35Speaker 3: Pigley Wiggly Hotline. Good morning, Joe, welcome to the show.
- 32:38Speaker 6: Hey, good morning, Glad to be on air with you.
- 32:40Speaker 3: Thank you for being here. So how does it feel
- 32:43Speaker 3: that you're alma mater a team that you played for
- 32:46Speaker 3: for a championship and won a championship with. How does
- 32:49Speaker 3: it feel just to have Nitro back in it again.
- 32:52Speaker 6: Yeah, it's great. It feels like it's been too long, right,
- 32:54Speaker 6: and to see the community now coming back in being
- 32:58Speaker 6: involved in being it's it's just great to hear the
- 33:01Speaker 6: buzz around town and it's exciting for sure.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Indeed. All Right, So I want to talk about that season,
- 33:08Speaker 3: and we'll get to the playoffs in the championship, Lader,
- 33:10Speaker 3: but I want to talk about that season. What do
- 33:12Speaker 3: you remember about maybe the August practices going into it,
- 33:16Speaker 3: in the first couple of games, just give us some
- 33:18Speaker 3: memories of the season.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so we came off a tough loss in SMIs
- 33:23Speaker 6: to do contact following year, and so going into August
- 33:26Speaker 6: and over the summer workouts, we definitely were on a mission.
- 33:30Speaker 6: We knew what we had, We knew we could only
- 33:33Speaker 6: beat ourselves. So going into the season, we were definitely
- 33:37Speaker 6: ready and prepared to just to take on everybody.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Talk about some of those those early games, So you
- 33:43Speaker 3: had just one or two that maybe sticks out.
- 33:46Speaker 6: Yeah, So the Hurricane game was a tough contest, and
- 33:48Speaker 6: you know, they're always a tough contest, but we only
- 33:52Speaker 6: came away with I think at two point win in
- 33:54Speaker 6: that game, and it was one of those lower scoring
- 33:56Speaker 6: games for us that they always seem to have our
- 34:00Speaker 6: number somewhat to be competitive with us.
- 34:03Speaker 3: And we're talking to Joe Murphy, who was on that
- 34:06Speaker 3: championship team, talk about some of the teammates. I mean,
- 34:09Speaker 3: everybody thinks about that team. And obviously you know the
- 34:12Speaker 3: first name that pops out of jay our house, but
- 34:13Speaker 3: he wasn't the only player on the team. You were
- 34:15Speaker 3: there and several others. Talk about some of the other
- 34:17Speaker 3: standout players on that team.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Yeah, So we had a lot of our senior class
- 34:21Speaker 6: with Chris Martin, Zach Collins, Eddie Casto, Matt Brewer, Jesse Wesnooski.
- 34:27Speaker 6: You know, we all came up through the youth football system,
- 34:30Speaker 6: middle school system, and of course Jr. Joined us our
- 34:33Speaker 6: freshman year and came in just like another brother with us,
- 34:36Speaker 6: and we all grew up together. We all hung out
- 34:39Speaker 6: together all through high school and growing up together. So
- 34:43Speaker 6: a lot of great a lot of great talent with
- 34:45Speaker 6: that senior class.
- 34:46Speaker 3: And I mentioned this earlier that when we had Tom
- 34:51Speaker 3: Bragg on top of the show. Of course he's a
- 34:52Speaker 3: Nitro guy. He went to high school there as well,
- 34:54Speaker 3: and he was talking about and I know this from
- 34:57Speaker 3: my alma mater, when even those of don't play sports
- 35:01Speaker 3: when you have a good thing going and you can
- 35:04Speaker 3: rally the entire not only the entire school, but but
- 35:07Speaker 3: rally the entire community around something like that. Man, it's
- 35:10Speaker 3: a good feeling, is it not.
- 35:12Speaker 6: Oh, it's a great feeling. And you know, us being
- 35:14Speaker 6: seventeen eighteen year old kids going around town and everybody's
- 35:17Speaker 6: coming up, shaking your hand, they know who you are,
- 35:19Speaker 6: They're patting you on the back, kids are asking for autographs.
- 35:22Speaker 6: You know, you're eating it all up, eating it all up.
- 35:24Speaker 6: But you know, so one thing that we could shift
- 35:27Speaker 6: and transition to is when we stepped on that football field,
- 35:30Speaker 6: you know, it was all business and we we knew
- 35:32Speaker 6: we were on a mission. And so but yeah, it's
- 35:35Speaker 6: always good eating up that stuff as a young kid
- 35:37Speaker 6: like that.
- 35:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, especially in a smaller area. And I mean,
- 35:40Speaker 3: you know, we outside of the Charleston area. Everybody looks
- 35:43Speaker 3: at Charleston as being a you know, the big city.
- 35:46Speaker 3: But I mean it's still it's still especially Nitro. I mean,
- 35:50Speaker 3: Nitro is one of my favorite communities because it's like
- 35:53Speaker 3: everybody seems to no matter what's going on in Nitro,
- 35:55Speaker 3: everybody seems to be all in on it, whether it's
- 35:58Speaker 3: sports or anything else, one hundred percent.
- 36:01Speaker 6: We have a lot of great things going on in
- 36:03Speaker 6: our city at all times, and everybody seems to be
- 36:07Speaker 6: involved in it want to be involved. We have a
- 36:09Speaker 6: great volunteer or group in Nitro of a massive amount
- 36:13Speaker 6: of volunteers that help with everything from sports to to others.
- 36:17Speaker 3: You know, welcome to Joe Murphy again, who was on
- 36:19Speaker 3: that championship team back in nineteen ninety eight for Nitros,
- 36:22Speaker 3: now in Nitro City councilman, business leader, doing a lot
- 36:25Speaker 3: of great things in the community. All right, let's fast
- 36:27Speaker 3: forward to the playoffs. Now Nitro's in the playoffs nineteen
- 36:30Speaker 3: ninety eight year memories of the playoffs and then onto
- 36:32Speaker 3: the championship.
- 36:34Speaker 6: Yeah, so, you know, Huntington the second round was a
- 36:38Speaker 6: pretty tough test. It was a day game, and it
- 36:41Speaker 6: came down to, you know, towards the end, toward the
- 36:43Speaker 6: last drive for us to be able to pull that
- 36:45Speaker 6: one away. And then of course the biggest game to
- 36:49Speaker 6: me was definitely the Parkersburg game. Going up to Parkersburg,
- 36:53Speaker 6: as you know, we were number three seed, they were
- 36:54Speaker 6: the number two, so we had to travel to them
- 36:56Speaker 6: for the semi finals, and I tell you what, that's
- 36:59Speaker 6: a crowd. I've never seen another crowd like it. People
- 37:02Speaker 6: were jumping the walls trying to get in. Fire Marshall
- 37:05Speaker 6: was shutting down the entry. I mean, it was it
- 37:08Speaker 6: was a lot of insane and intense environment. For sure.
- 37:11Speaker 6: You know, we're coming in as a visitor, so it
- 37:12Speaker 6: was it was intense for us as well. But it
- 37:15Speaker 6: was it was awesome. You know, you're soaking it all in.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Talk about the championship game when you played Morgantown.
- 37:20Speaker 6: Yeah, so the championship game, it was you know, the
- 37:23Speaker 6: night before we went and watched DuPont get beat and
- 37:26Speaker 6: that's somebody, you know, from our local area. So of
- 37:28Speaker 6: course we were rooting for them, and that was a
- 37:31Speaker 6: tough thing to go back to our hotels with. So
- 37:34Speaker 6: the next morning we're all getting together, We're talking and
- 37:37Speaker 6: getting the game playing together. You know, coach Robert Burdett's
- 37:39Speaker 6: one of the best hype coaches out there in the game,
- 37:42Speaker 6: and he could always get us going. It's always tough playing,
- 37:46Speaker 6: you know, at noon instead of seven o'clock a night game,
- 37:49Speaker 6: so adjusting to that. But yeah, going into the game,
- 37:52Speaker 6: we were on a mission to just we were gonna
- 37:54Speaker 6: hammer them, hammer, hammer, hammered. So very first play, what happens,
- 37:58Speaker 6: We throw an interception, they run it down to the
- 38:01Speaker 6: two guards line, and then if you remember Chris y Era,
- 38:04Speaker 6: he ran in the score and so they went up
- 38:05Speaker 6: six nothing and we were like, oh no, So but
- 38:09Speaker 6: then we settled down. I think we went in the
- 38:11Speaker 6: halftime at forty two to six, so we settled down
- 38:14Speaker 6: pretty quick and started putting points on the board. But yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 6: it just ended up being a magical day. It was
- 38:21Speaker 6: just it was. It was amazing just watching watching Jr. Throw,
- 38:26Speaker 6: watching our receivers, you know, cats. It was just fun
- 38:28Speaker 6: to even just just have witness it as a fan,
- 38:30Speaker 6: even I know I was out there playing, but just
- 38:33Speaker 6: as a fan to watch it was something amazing. It's
- 38:35Speaker 6: something high school sports didn't have a run of shoot
- 38:38Speaker 6: offense like we did, especially in West Virginia in that time,
- 38:40Speaker 6: So to just be a part of that was awesome.
- 38:44Speaker 3: What was the weather like in that game? Do you remember?
- 38:47Speaker 7: Yeah?
- 38:48Speaker 6: It was chili. You know, of course, you know the
- 38:50Speaker 6: eighteen year old we're all out there in short sleeved shirts.
- 38:52Speaker 6: But it was definitely a it was a chili day.
- 38:54Speaker 6: It's probably gonna be about the same, I think weatherwise,
- 38:57Speaker 6: you know, men thirties.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Yeah, so aut this team this year, what's your what's
- 39:01Speaker 3: your take on on this year's team that's playing for
- 39:03Speaker 3: the championship tomorrow night at seventh.
- 39:06Speaker 6: You know, they've they've really progressed over the last few
- 39:09Speaker 6: weeks too, and their game against Chapmanville is the best
- 39:13Speaker 6: I've seen them this year. And I think as long
- 39:16Speaker 6: as they maintain a good balance with you know, the
- 39:19Speaker 6: pass and run, you get Radcliffe Porter getting some yards,
- 39:21Speaker 6: chunking up some yards on the ground and try to
- 39:24Speaker 6: get it to Thompson out in there. I mean, Stuffy's
- 39:27Speaker 6: got to be able to get it to Thompson. Let
- 39:28Speaker 6: Thompson do his thing once he catches it. He's pretty amazing.
- 39:32Speaker 6: Once he catches that ball, you can tell why he's
- 39:34Speaker 6: a D one athlete. So exciting to see, you know.
- 39:38Speaker 6: And then of course defensive side, we got to get
- 39:40Speaker 6: Patterson and Nuss you're in there and getting some penetrating
- 39:43Speaker 6: at the line and getting in the backfield and creating
- 39:46Speaker 6: a havoc back there like they've been doing all year.
- 39:48Speaker 6: All right, so it should be a good.
- 39:50Speaker 3: We're all excited about it. Here in the valley. I
- 39:53Speaker 3: can tell you that we're all excited about all the games,
- 39:54Speaker 3: but especially when we get a little hometown flair. Hey, Joe,
- 39:58Speaker 3: I appreciate you taking time under scheduled to be here
- 40:00Speaker 3: with us today. Man, great memories. I appreciate you being here.
- 40:04Speaker 6: Yeah, no problem with one other titch on third for
- 40:06Speaker 6: Nighter High school Athletics. You know, twenty twenty five of
- 40:08Speaker 6: the pretty amazing year five. This is the fifth team
- 40:11Speaker 6: going to a state championship this year, going back to
- 40:15Speaker 6: the spring. So when the spring we had girls and
- 40:17Speaker 6: boys basketball, fall, we've had girls and boys soccer, and
- 40:20Speaker 6: now we're football. So it's amazing for our small little town.
- 40:24Speaker 6: I just want to throw that plow absolutely.
- 40:25Speaker 3: I guess I hadn't realized that, but one per I mean,
- 40:28Speaker 3: we'll start calling it, you know, the championship the nightro
- 40:33Speaker 3: the city. Well, I think there's already I said to you,
- 40:35Speaker 3: we'll come up with the Joe Stevens will come up
- 40:37Speaker 3: with a really really cool name. All right.
- 40:39Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Joe's good at that.
- 40:40Speaker 3: We'll put that on Joe and mayor caseball. All right,
- 40:43Speaker 3: all right, Joe Murphy, I appreciate you being here, buddy,
- 40:45Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.
- 40:46Speaker 6: Yeah, I appreciate it, thank you.
- 40:47Speaker 3: All right, it's ninety eight. A couple quick programming notes.
- 40:51Speaker 3: Of course, all the championships are going to be on WCHS.
- 40:54Speaker 3: You can stream the video feed at Metro News Television,
- 40:56Speaker 3: so if you haven't yet gotten that app make sure
- 40:58Speaker 3: that you do so. Tomorrow morning, we're going to a
- 41:01Speaker 3: special you don't want to miss. It's going to spotlight
- 41:03Speaker 3: the old Charleston High schools. Three straight undefeated season, three
- 41:08Speaker 3: straight championships, I should say tomorrow morning that's at ten six.
- 41:13Speaker 3: You don't want to miss that. I mean, it's a
- 41:15Speaker 3: run that this city has never, never really seen before.
- 41:18Speaker 3: So we're going to have that for you coming up
- 41:20Speaker 3: to on the WHS tomorrow morning at ten o six.
- 41:23Speaker 3: Then tomorrow night at six oh five, we have an
- 41:24Speaker 3: expanded pre game to get you ready for the Nitro
- 41:29Speaker 3: and Princeton TRIPAA Championship game. Dale Cooper's gonna host it
- 41:32Speaker 3: along with our some of our sports team members, folks
- 41:35Speaker 3: from the Nitro community and more six oh six tomorrow evening,
- 41:38Speaker 3: and it is sponsored by the Nitro Convention and Visitors Bureau.
- 41:42Speaker 3: All Right, we had a text earlier somebody wanted to
- 41:44Speaker 3: know about one of the dogs that is featured on
- 41:49Speaker 3: the Kneal Trothy Main Association's Facebook page, and it was
- 41:53Speaker 3: really kind of a sad story. The dog's name was Buddy,
- 41:57Speaker 3: and he was hit by a car and his eyes
- 42:00Speaker 3: and I have a trouble even saying this, but this
- 42:03Speaker 3: was the description. His eyes basically popped out, and there
- 42:06Speaker 3: is a picture posted on the Canege Trothuman Association's Facebook page.
- 42:11Speaker 3: During one of the breaks there, I was able to
- 42:14Speaker 3: text Angie Gillenwater and I ask her because the text
- 42:18Speaker 3: came in after we'd already disconnected with Angie.
- 42:20Speaker 6: He is.
- 42:22Speaker 3: The Buddy is stable and still learned. This is Angie's words,
- 42:26Speaker 3: trying to navigate the world, and she says a lot
- 42:28Speaker 3: of questions still answered regarding vision until he fully heals,
- 42:31Speaker 3: but they're stain optimistic. So appreciate Angie doing double duty
- 42:34Speaker 3: and texting this that. And we're gonna take a break
- 42:37Speaker 3: when we come back. Let's just go on over to
- 42:39Speaker 3: the field. Dave Wilson will be calling some action over there.
- 42:42Speaker 3: We'll check in with Northern Day when we come back.

- 45:51Speaker 3: to be Jerry Seinfeld. I think we're probably both Newman
- 45:53Speaker 3: all right, so you got to call on the first
- 45:55Speaker 3: game today? Is that right?
- 45:57Speaker 7: Yes, sir, be along with the Fred Persinger at noon
- 45:59Speaker 7: Morgantown and Martzburg for the Glass four A title.
- 46:02Speaker 3: All right, what's the How are things looking over at
- 46:05Speaker 3: the field right now? Everything looking good? I mean we
- 46:07Speaker 3: had we had a little bit of snow here in Charles,
- 46:08Speaker 3: not a lot, but a little bit of snow.
- 46:10Speaker 7: I mean, this is great football weather. It's coldest snowing.
- 46:13Speaker 7: What else would you want for a championship game? Now,
- 46:16Speaker 7: it's gonna be a little slip going I think out
- 46:17Speaker 7: on the field there is a fine layer of snow
- 46:19Speaker 7: that's gonna meld off and go away. But the field's
- 46:22Speaker 7: going to be I think a little bit slick. We'll
- 46:24Speaker 7: see how the guys handle it. Both these offenses focus
- 46:27Speaker 7: on the quarterback Brian Dick for Martinsburg Mattox Twig for Morgantown,
- 46:31Speaker 7: and they're both of them make plays with their legses capability.
- 46:36Speaker 7: They're both the leading rushers for their teams, so we'll
- 46:39Speaker 7: see how that factors in. Again, this is artificial turf,
- 46:42Speaker 7: so it's not like it's gonna be muddy or anything, Dave,
- 46:44Speaker 7: but could be slick, especially at the beginning of the
- 46:46Speaker 7: ball game.
- 46:47Speaker 3: So talk about some of the other matchups. How many
- 46:50Speaker 3: games are you doing?
- 46:52Speaker 7: So I'll be doing this one on radio. I'll be
- 46:54Speaker 7: doing color on television tonight with Kyle Wigs for Clay
- 46:57Speaker 7: Betel and Wheeling Central CBS in their first ever championship game,
- 47:01Speaker 7: taking on a Wheeling Central program that has twelve titles
- 47:05Speaker 7: in thirteen trips to the state championship game, but this
- 47:08Speaker 7: group's making its first appearance in six years. That's coming
- 47:11Speaker 7: up tonight tomorrow Frankfurt and blue Field. Frankfort going for
- 47:15Speaker 7: back to back titles. Blue Field, of course a team
- 47:18Speaker 7: that has been a regular in the championships over the season,
- 47:20Speaker 7: so that should be a good matchup. And then finally,
- 47:23Speaker 7: Nitro and I just went totally bright Princeton Princeton, Princeton, Princeton,
- 47:29Speaker 7: Nitro and Princeton. That game could have one hundred and
- 47:32Speaker 7: twenty points score between the two teams by the time
- 47:34Speaker 7: it's over. So I think we want to have four
- 47:36Speaker 7: really good ball games here today, all.
- 47:37Speaker 3: Right, And again we're going to have all the games
- 47:39Speaker 3: here on WCCHS. We also are going to be streaming
- 47:41Speaker 3: all the games on Metro News Television, So if you
- 47:44Speaker 3: haven't yet download the app, make sure you do. Wilson,
- 47:46Speaker 3: all right, our conversations over.
- 47:49Speaker 7: All right, Hey, turn the TV app on, then turn
- 47:51Speaker 7: the volume down, turn the radio up.
- 47:53Speaker 3: There you go, that's what you do, all right, Wilson,
- 47:55Speaker 3: appreciate you being here, man, Thanks a lo. I have
- 47:57Speaker 3: a great broadcast, all right, thanks Dave? All right? Nine
- 48:00Speaker 3: five to Dave Allen, showing five Dyline Brown to invited
- 48:02Speaker 3: by Husband's Pizza get the Hustin's Holiday pack large, a
- 48:04Speaker 3: tenach pepperoni pizza, ten breadsticks, twelve hot wings, and a
- 48:07Speaker 3: two looter bottle of PEPSI only thirty three ninety nine Texas, Well,
- 48:11Speaker 3: that's special on Charleston football being made available online to

- 48:16Speaker 3: to ten oh six tomorrow morning, I'm sure it will.
- 48:19Speaker 3: I don't know that for one of I mean, we
- 48:20Speaker 3: podcast pretty much every special program we do here, so
- 48:23Speaker 3: I don't know that for a fact, but I'm going
- 48:25Speaker 3: to probably say yes, Texas, Dave. How about them Cowboys?
- 48:29Speaker 3: I knew that was coming first. Their offense was a problem,
- 48:32Speaker 3: got it? Fixed and the defense did what they did
- 48:34Speaker 3: and got helped out with some trades. Now the special
- 48:36Speaker 3: teams decided to take the night off for whatever reason.
- 48:39Speaker 3: The Cowboys are playing whack them all, trying to fix
- 48:40Speaker 3: their issues. What's next? Are the goalposts going to fall over?

- 49:58Speaker 3: My goodness, I did not not that. And for those
- 50:01Speaker 3: who don't know, nineteen I mean, just a legend in
