- 0:02Speaker 1: Radio radio Radio, He's a myth and bullshit. A radio
- 0:16Speaker 1: phonic novella Look at a Radio, hosted by malamo Ala
- 0:22Speaker 1: La Locomotives. Welcome to season four of Local Radios Wanted
- 0:29Speaker 1: for Crimes against the Patriarchy. Look at the Radio is
- 0:32Speaker 1: a radio novella, which is just a very very extra
- 0:36Speaker 1: way of saying a podcast. We interrupt our regularly scheduled
- 0:42Speaker 1: programming to bring you Quarantine Confidential, a special pandemic broadcast
- 0:46Speaker 1: about our experiences with quarantine and COVID nineteen. I'm Theosa
- 0:52Speaker 1: and I'm Mala. Last time on Look at the Radio,
- 0:55Speaker 1: we spoke with Jackie Cruz about life in Quarantine, create,
- 1:00Speaker 1: eating Hispanic Heritage Month, and being dog moms. If you
- 1:02Speaker 1: haven't tuned into that episode, you can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, SoundCloud,
- 1:07Speaker 1: and audio boom. That was a really fun interview. I
- 1:11Speaker 1: love talking with Jackie. If you didn't know, Jackie makes
- 1:16Speaker 1: some bomb music and right now, in addition to working
- 1:20Speaker 1: on new movies like she was just in The New Tremors,
- 1:23Speaker 1: she also has new music. So I've been bumping this
- 1:26Speaker 1: one song called Laura Looka. You're gonna have to What
- 1:30Speaker 1: do you do? You, So I highly suggest tuning into
- 1:40Speaker 1: that episode, like Yosa said, but also go and check
- 1:43Speaker 1: out Jackie's music if you're looking for something new to
- 1:45Speaker 1: listen to. Yes, she is such a talented, talented artist.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm excited to see like how she keeps growing post
- 1:53Speaker 1: Orange a New Black. Yeah, I'm always curious to see
- 1:57Speaker 1: like breakout stars because I think we could call Jackie
- 2:00Speaker 1: Visa the Orange the New Black a breakout star in
- 2:03Speaker 1: that way. I feel like all the Latinas and Oranges
- 2:06Speaker 1: and you Black were the breakout stars. I mean, and
- 2:08Speaker 1: also the Black with the black actresses as well, Like
- 2:12Speaker 1: I think all the women of color were like the
- 2:14Speaker 1: breakout stars of Oranges and You Black. It's true. Like
- 2:19Speaker 1: Danielle Brooks, who paid uh Tasty in Orange Is the
- 2:24Speaker 1: New Black, is on that new Netflix series Social Distance.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I just saw Danielle Brooks as I was watching that show,
- 2:33Speaker 1: and like we said, you know, Jackie's doing her thing
- 2:36Speaker 1: and Diane Guerrero has been, you know, doing a lot
- 2:39Speaker 1: of work and she's very visible on the Graham So yes,
- 2:42Speaker 1: which it is definitely true. So a reminder to rape, comment, like,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and share, share look with friends. We love it when
- 2:53Speaker 1: new listeners tell us, oh my home girl, put me
- 2:55Speaker 1: onto local thora. I've been binging since episode one. I'm

- 9:18Speaker 1: and booker of Women Crush Wednesdays, the hottest and most
- 9:22Speaker 1: diverse stand up show in l A. It used to
- 9:25Speaker 1: happen every Wednesday at the Hollywood Improv Lab before the pandemic.
- 9:30Speaker 1: But her debut album, The Woke Bully, which debut at
- 9:32Speaker 1: number three on the Billboard Comedy Charts and was named
- 9:35Speaker 1: one of the Best Comedy Albums by the NPR Program.
- 9:39Speaker 1: Bullseye is a combination of Marcella's unique perspective and honesty,
- 9:43Speaker 1: which captures what it's like to its experience. Her life
- 9:47Speaker 1: in COVID nineteen halted the entertainment industry, but Marcella managed
- 9:51Speaker 1: to be seen as a panelist on David's Spade Lights
- 9:54Speaker 1: Out on Comedy Central, killed her over the top dance
- 9:58Speaker 1: numbers on The Funny Dance Show on week and can
- 10:00Speaker 1: be seen on the upcoming Fuse TV show Like Share
- 10:04Speaker 1: the Melon. Her stand up can be seen on the
- 10:06Speaker 1: second season of Two Top Queens on HBO, as well
- 10:09Speaker 1: as Night Train with White Snak on Stars. Previously, she
- 10:13Speaker 1: made a brief guest appearance on Comedy Central's Corporate on
- 10:16Speaker 1: an episodes of Fuse TVs Trivia Takedown. We're so excited
- 10:21Speaker 1: to have Marcella Arguyo here, so without further ado, we'd
- 10:24Speaker 1: like to just bring up our interview and have you
- 10:26Speaker 1: all chuckle along with us. Okay, look a motive. So
- 10:30Speaker 1: we are incredibly excited to chat with comedian funny lady
- 10:35Speaker 1: Marcella Argyle here to talk to us about comedy in
- 10:39Speaker 1: the time of COVID some exciting work that she has
- 10:42Speaker 1: coming up. Marcella, Hello, welcome to Look. Hi, thank you
- 10:46Speaker 1: for having me. I'm so excited to finally be here.
- 10:51Speaker 1: It's it's a couple of years i've been I'm here finally,
- 10:57Speaker 1: although I'm coming for sure. Yeah, I'm excited. Thank you
- 11:01Speaker 1: for having me. Appreciate it. You guys, this is a
- 11:03Speaker 1: great podcast. Thank you. And Marcella. You actually attended one
- 11:08Speaker 1: of our maybe our first podcast party. Yes. Yes, it
- 11:12Speaker 1: was a very strange event. It was like it was cool,
- 11:16Speaker 1: not strange in a bad way, just like I think
- 11:20Speaker 1: like half of the room knew what was going on
- 11:22Speaker 1: in the other half was like, hey, I'm trying to dance,
- 11:24Speaker 1: say and it was like it was just kind of
- 11:28Speaker 1: it was just kind of fun to just you know,
- 11:30Speaker 1: stand in the back and watch it all kind of
- 11:32Speaker 1: go down. It was cool. Yeah, it was an experimental event.
- 11:36Speaker 1: A podcast party. What is a podcast party? So thank
- 11:39Speaker 1: you for being there though and supporting. So, Marcella, can
- 11:42Speaker 1: you introduce yourself a little bit for our audience in
- 11:45Speaker 1: case they happen to live under a rock somewhere and
- 11:47Speaker 1: not know who you are. I mean a lot of
- 11:48Speaker 1: people don't know who I am. It's totally fine. Um,
- 11:52Speaker 1: I my name is Marcella. I'm a comedian. I've been
- 11:54Speaker 1: doing comedy for almost fifteen years, stand up comedy for
- 11:57Speaker 1: almost fifteen years. And I started in the Bay Area
- 12:02Speaker 1: from California, born and raised and um, currently doing well.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I'm not currently doing comedy in l A because that's
- 12:09Speaker 1: not happening. But I was doing comedy l A. I
- 12:12Speaker 1: was running a really great weekly women's only show, Women
- 12:15Speaker 1: Crush Wednesdays. That was really fun. Um that's you know,
- 12:19Speaker 1: we're waiting for that to hopefully start up again. And
- 12:22Speaker 1: uh yeah, maybe you see me on two Dope Queen
- 12:25Speaker 1: season two, episodes three. I want to say, yeah, that's
- 12:29Speaker 1: that's my intro. Yes, I attended. I went to Woman
- 12:33Speaker 1: Crush Wednesday the night that Nicole Buyer was performing. It
- 12:39Speaker 1: was so fun. Yeah, she's always fun, she's always she's
- 12:43Speaker 1: she she has an open door, uh invitation there, So
- 12:47Speaker 1: it's always nice to have her. She's fucking wild. She
- 12:50Speaker 1: has another another amazing podcaster. I love. Why wouldn't you
- 12:55Speaker 1: date me? So, Marcella, you tweeted a few weeks ago,
- 12:59Speaker 1: a few days ago, whatever time is at that point,
- 13:02Speaker 1: it's not real. It's not real. Maybe I just tweeted it.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Maybe I just tweeted it. Yeah, about how comedic timing
- 13:09Speaker 1: doesn't really work on Zoom and I know you've been
- 13:14Speaker 1: doing some Zoom shows, so can we talk about that
- 13:17Speaker 1: comedy and COVID? How's it working? How's it not working?
- 13:20Speaker 1: I have not been doing Zoom shows. I've been doing
- 13:23Speaker 1: like Zoom events, but not Zoom shows because I cannot,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I will not. I refuse to do stand up on
- 13:32Speaker 1: a Zoom show because there's a delay, and comedy you
- 13:36Speaker 1: need the instant reaction, and uh, it just doesn't make
- 13:40Speaker 1: sense to me. Like I was telling somebody recently, how
- 13:44Speaker 1: like when we start doing common and even now, when
- 13:46Speaker 1: you experiment when new material you a delayed reaction is negative.
- 13:52Speaker 1: It means that the joke is either not funny, or
- 13:56Speaker 1: it's not easy to understand, or maybe you just need
- 13:59Speaker 1: to change to word, um, but a day delayed reaction.
- 14:02Speaker 1: We've and you know, I've been doing comedy so long,
- 14:05Speaker 1: A delayed reaction fox with my head. You know, I'm
- 14:07Speaker 1: sure like some of the people who've only been in
- 14:09Speaker 1: comedy for a few years are probably fine with it
- 14:10Speaker 1: because they're just they're not there. It's easier to adapt
- 14:13Speaker 1: when you've only been doing it for a few years.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But I've been doing it too long. But I'm like,
- 14:17Speaker 1: I do zoom stand up. I'm just gonna get super upset.
- 14:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna get mad. Like I don't know if you've
- 14:21Speaker 1: ever if you've only been to the Nicole Buyer Women crush,
- 14:24Speaker 1: I have a tendency to get upset on stage and
- 14:27Speaker 1: take it out on the audience and it doesn't go
- 14:30Speaker 1: my way, which is sometimes funny and sometimes it's fucking terrible.
- 14:34Speaker 1: So I I just can't imagine. I just I can't
- 14:37Speaker 1: imagine enjoying the fucking delayed response, you know, right, Yeah, No,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I can totally see that. I mean, even just trying
- 14:46Speaker 1: to record a freaking podcast episode a nightmare. Yeah, especially
- 14:53Speaker 1: like you know, when you're dependent on or not dependent,
- 14:56Speaker 1: but you work on people's energies, right when you're integrating people.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Uh and I are, you know, doing our little thing
- 15:02Speaker 1: or back and forth and the delay does not it
- 15:04Speaker 1: doesn't work. If it doesn't help, it's not cute. Well
- 15:08Speaker 1: because yeah, because then you end up stepping on each
- 15:09Speaker 1: other and interrupting when you think someone was pausing for
- 15:14Speaker 1: for an opening, but you don't know if they're just
- 15:15Speaker 1: completing their thought. And it's just it's sucked up. It's
- 15:18Speaker 1: it's not fun, it's not smooth. It takes away some
- 15:21Speaker 1: of the fun. But what are you gonna do? What
- 15:24Speaker 1: are you gonna do? So zoom events, But you've also
- 15:27Speaker 1: done some parking lot shows, Yeah, I did. I was
- 15:31Speaker 1: that girl. I was open with barsa okay comedian who
- 15:35Speaker 1: has both in English and Spanish special right now on Netflix.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Check that out, y'all. And if you haven't already, and um,
- 15:41Speaker 1: he invited me. Actually I did stand up at a
- 15:45Speaker 1: comedy club the week before and saw like City Utah.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Because they have like a low number of cases. They've
- 15:50Speaker 1: been running the show since or I should say running
- 15:53Speaker 1: the club since May. And they are, you know, following
- 15:56Speaker 1: all the COVID guidelines and so um. After talking to
- 15:59Speaker 1: another communyo who had been headlining there. I agreed to
- 16:04Speaker 1: open for Phelipe, and that was a little nerve wracking
- 16:07Speaker 1: because it was like, we're inside and I'm not usually
- 16:09Speaker 1: being inside with a bunch of people. And it was
- 16:11Speaker 1: a three hundred seater but they only had a hundred
- 16:13Speaker 1: and fifty people in the room and it was a
- 16:15Speaker 1: little uncomfortable. Um, And but it was fine, you know.
- 16:19Speaker 1: It was also like, fucking what a trip to just
- 16:22Speaker 1: be able to do stand up, tell jokes and get
- 16:24Speaker 1: a reaction. I was, so it was and I did great,
- 16:26Speaker 1: by the way, So I just wanted everybody hearing to
- 16:29Speaker 1: know you can take a long gass break. I'm still
- 16:31Speaker 1: do very good if you were good at what you do. Um.
- 16:36Speaker 1: But it was that was that was sucking a mind funk.
- 16:38Speaker 1: But it was fun and it was a really good
- 16:41Speaker 1: way to transition into doing the driving shows because the
- 16:45Speaker 1: driving shows fucking sucked. They fucking suck. They are not
- 16:49Speaker 1: good for the performer or just no way. I mean,
- 16:51Speaker 1: I totally the only reason I did it because I
- 16:52Speaker 1: trust Phelipe. I know his audience is hell of fun
- 16:55Speaker 1: and hello dope and hello chill. So I was like,
- 16:59Speaker 1: I'm I know, I'll be fine. I know my material
- 17:00Speaker 1: will be fine. It's just that I'm gonna have to
- 17:03Speaker 1: talk myself into again what I just said. When I'm
- 17:06Speaker 1: on stage and the audience, I don't have a reaction,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I'll take it out on them, right, and sometimes it's
- 17:10Speaker 1: good and sometimes it's bad. So I had to tell myself,
- 17:14Speaker 1: you're not going to get a reaction period at all,
- 17:17Speaker 1: so you need to not be a bit about it
- 17:22Speaker 1: to the next joke. So that's what I did, and
- 17:24Speaker 1: it was it wasn't fun, And it was how funny
- 17:27Speaker 1: because the first night was two hundred cars, which was
- 17:29Speaker 1: a lot of cars. You kind of only just vibe
- 17:31Speaker 1: off the people in the front row that are sitting
- 17:33Speaker 1: on their truck beds or if they're sitting outside of
- 17:36Speaker 1: their car or whatever. But the second show is four
- 17:38Speaker 1: hundred cars. Four cars. It's a lot of cars, huge
- 17:42Speaker 1: field of cars. And Felippe's wife after my set, uh
- 17:48Speaker 1: because from where she was standing, she heard a lot
- 17:50Speaker 1: of laughter. Right, But when you're outside the sound goes up.
- 17:54Speaker 1: It's not going towards me. So I get off stage
- 17:58Speaker 1: and she goes myrself, wasn't this so much more fun
- 18:00Speaker 1: than yesterday? I said, No, it wasn't. It was just
- 18:04Speaker 1: as terrible as it was last night. This ship is
- 18:08Speaker 1: not fun, but I get it. These people are paying
- 18:10Speaker 1: a lot of money to be entertained because they want
- 18:12Speaker 1: to get out of the house. So you do your job.
- 18:14Speaker 1: It's the first time in a long time I'm like,
- 18:16Speaker 1: I'm doing a job, you know, and not my favorite
- 18:20Speaker 1: way to do stand up. Yeah, I mean I can
- 18:24Speaker 1: imagine we're all kind of just adapting, you know, as
- 18:26Speaker 1: as we can. Um. You know you so far you've
- 18:29Speaker 1: mentioned who We Love and Philippe Espasa, you know, and
- 18:34Speaker 1: you're also a prominent comedian right in the Latin X field,
- 18:37Speaker 1: in the field in general, where would you say the
- 18:39Speaker 1: current landscape is for Latin X comedy if you can
- 18:43Speaker 1: even like, is there a landscape? Like is everyone doing
- 18:46Speaker 1: their own thing? What do you think? What's your opinion?
- 18:48Speaker 1: I think right now it's it's still pretty much how
- 18:51Speaker 1: it's always been. It's either you're fucking doing the classic
- 18:57Speaker 1: Mexican material, because that's what a lot of the material
- 19:00Speaker 1: in America has been about, you know, um, or you're
- 19:05Speaker 1: doing your thing and you're not being included in the
- 19:10Speaker 1: Latino community, right because you know, you're either fucking us
- 19:14Speaker 1: or you're fucking you're fucking trying to be a thing.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You know, like it's never you're not allowed to just
- 19:20Speaker 1: be what you are. And I'm I'm thankful that like
- 19:24Speaker 1: Ider Rodriguez is out there, you know, doing her fucking thing,
- 19:27Speaker 1: being a fucking loud and proud Latina and and helping
- 19:31Speaker 1: pave the way. But you know that also took Tiffany
- 19:33Speaker 1: Hattish bringing her up, giving her special, because we know
- 19:37Speaker 1: that I wasn't gonna get a special from these fucking
- 19:39Speaker 1: white people. They weren't gonna everyone the way she talks,
- 19:42Speaker 1: this is not I mean the way I talk. I'm
- 19:43Speaker 1: not funding Galina right now, and so that's just the
- 19:47Speaker 1: way it is. So it's the landscape is interesting because
- 19:50Speaker 1: it's it's literally a landscape. It's just it's a wide
- 19:53Speaker 1: field of a lot of people doing a lot of
- 19:55Speaker 1: different things, but it's still very divided. It's still very
- 20:00Speaker 1: we either look Latino or you don't. And then according
- 20:04Speaker 1: to that, they're gonna put you where they think you
- 20:07Speaker 1: should be. And that's what's frustrating, because it's like there's
- 20:11Speaker 1: a lot of comedians who are very good who aren't
- 20:13Speaker 1: getting the recognition they deserve because they're not doing, you know,
- 20:17Speaker 1: material that appeals to the Latino audience that the the
- 20:21Speaker 1: gatekeepers feel like they needs to be, you know, addressed.
- 20:26Speaker 1: When it's like Latina, we like everything, we like all
- 20:29Speaker 1: the things. We I was talking to somebody recently about how,
- 20:33Speaker 1: especially with Latinos, we we because she this girl just
- 20:37Speaker 1: got a really nice, great position at a bright, shining
- 20:40Speaker 1: new company and they're doing great. She's doing great, but
- 20:44Speaker 1: she was tripping, you know, because she was like I
- 20:46Speaker 1: just as as Latina, like, I feel very uncomfortable and
- 20:49Speaker 1: it's hard for me, and I'm scared, and i feel
- 20:51Speaker 1: like I have imposter syndrome. I'm like, why why you're
- 20:53Speaker 1: in You're in the comedy world. She's not a comedian,
- 20:56Speaker 1: but she's in the comedy world. And I'm like, as
- 20:58Speaker 1: as Latino, we've had to consume white mainstream media, We've
- 21:03Speaker 1: had to consume black mainstream media, and we've consumed the
- 21:07Speaker 1: fucking Latino. We even't consumed Sabel, though he got their
- 21:12Speaker 1: whole lives. We've consumed our ship and their ship, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: then somehow we're not allowed to be in any of it,
- 21:19Speaker 1: you know, especially if you start dabbling on one side
- 21:21Speaker 1: or the other, right, but we are sometimes more qualified
- 21:24Speaker 1: than ain't anybody because especially in that position that she's in,
- 21:29Speaker 1: where it's like she gets to say what is funny
- 21:31Speaker 1: and what's good because she has consumed so much over
- 21:34Speaker 1: the years from all the cultures, all the backgrounds, especially
- 21:38Speaker 1: in mainstream which for the most part, in mainstream American
- 21:42Speaker 1: entertainment is just white and black, and really has been
- 21:44Speaker 1: predominantly white because very black in the nineties, but then
- 21:47Speaker 1: that fucking disappeared and now starting to come back to
- 21:50Speaker 1: be Hella black helldo a lot of the great ship
- 21:52Speaker 1: for them, which is sucking, exciting and cool. We support it.
- 21:56Speaker 1: And then there's us where people are still like treating
- 21:59Speaker 1: us like it's the fucking indies. They're saying. I mean, look,
- 22:02Speaker 1: I'm excited about that Selena series on Netflix, but it's
- 22:04Speaker 1: like there's other latina's ye that have done great ship,
- 22:09Speaker 1: great ship. We We've we got all the series on her,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you know, absolutely, how any more series on white Latinas
- 22:17Speaker 1: do we need? Not more? But I just unsell my
- 22:20Speaker 1: own show, I think so well, you know, I like
- 22:24Speaker 1: definitely like hear what you're saying, because I am like
- 22:27Speaker 1: someone that consumes Latin X media, but I wouldn't what
- 22:32Speaker 1: what you consider like the slapstick Latin X comedy is
- 22:35Speaker 1: not what appeals to me. So I'm always looking for
- 22:38Speaker 1: something like, well, that's not really my humor, you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: And so I'm trying to find my own lane of
- 22:42Speaker 1: what do I like and how can I consume it?
- 22:44Speaker 1: How can I support the comedians that are doing what
- 22:46Speaker 1: I like? Yeah, but that's what's tough is that there's
- 22:49Speaker 1: so much out there, and for us there's there's limited
- 22:54Speaker 1: right not just as consumers, but as as performers, as
- 22:57Speaker 1: as as entertainers, and so it's it's just gets really
- 23:00Speaker 1: tricky because you you want to support everyone, but everyone
- 23:05Speaker 1: doesn't want to support you, you know. That's that's what
- 23:08Speaker 1: sucks about being especially And I don't know because I'm
- 23:11Speaker 1: first generation. So when I was a kid, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: I was learning English, and I was like, let's consume
- 23:18Speaker 1: all the humor that we can because in our household,
- 23:21Speaker 1: we love to laugh, of course, so we would consume
- 23:24Speaker 1: so much. Like we weren't allowed to watch sm NOL,
- 23:26Speaker 1: but we could watch and Living Color, you know, we
- 23:29Speaker 1: would watch all those goofy as eighties movies we were
- 23:32Speaker 1: I got so much diversity and comedic entertainment that it
- 23:38Speaker 1: like blows my mind that it's still so fucking separated,
- 23:43Speaker 1: you know, because it's like we can all, we can
- 23:45Speaker 1: all be in this, but it just it just doesn't
- 23:47Speaker 1: work that way, which sucks, but it should, alright, y'all.
- 23:50Speaker 1: So today we're excited to talk about one of our
- 23:52Speaker 1: favorite brands that we've had the pleasure of working with, Quip,
- 23:56Speaker 1: And today we're gonna be talking about flossing. Do you
- 24:00Speaker 1: ever floss on the go? Do you ever floss in
- 24:03Speaker 1: between work meetings, especially now zoom meetings when you're eating
- 24:06Speaker 1: something quick? And did you know this shocked me that
- 24:09Speaker 1: only one out of every two people brush twice a
- 24:12Speaker 1: day and the same goals for flossing regularly. What type
- 24:15Speaker 1: of person are you? Well, I definitely like to brush
- 24:18Speaker 1: my teeth twice a day. I could do better on
- 24:22Speaker 1: flossing twice a day, to be honest. But Quip is
- 24:25Speaker 1: here to help. And you know Quip, it's the electric
- 24:27Speaker 1: toothbrush you hear about all the time. It's their sleek,

- 25:14Speaker 1: toothpaste refills every three months from five dollars. Shipping is free,

- 25:23Speaker 1: get quip dot com slash look right now, you'll get
- 25:26Speaker 1: your first refill free. That's right, your first free refill
- 25:30Speaker 1: at get quip dot com slash look at Dora. That's
- 25:34Speaker 1: g E T q U I P dot com slash
- 25:38Speaker 1: look at quip better oral health made simple. I've been
- 25:43Speaker 1: watching binging all the news, all the old shows that
- 25:45Speaker 1: they've put back on Netflix now, like I've I've been
- 25:48Speaker 1: watching Sister Sister and Half in Half one on one
- 25:51Speaker 1: and Militia, Girlfriends, Girlfriends, and it's so true like and
- 25:57Speaker 1: in particular representations of Black women in these different sorts
- 26:00Speaker 1: of sitcom. And what I marvel at definitely is like,
- 26:04Speaker 1: I have so much respect for Black Hollywood and the
- 26:07Speaker 1: way that they've built for themselves and for each other
- 26:10Speaker 1: and put one another on. And I wish that in
- 26:14Speaker 1: Latin X spaces there wasn't such a desire to aspire
- 26:18Speaker 1: to whiteness and blending into whiteness. Because we've had our
- 26:22Speaker 1: big superstars, like we can look back and look at
- 26:25Speaker 1: the j Los into this and that. What have they
- 26:28Speaker 1: sort of created for the next generation? Which exactly, And
- 26:32Speaker 1: that's the problem. That's the problem. And it goes back
- 26:35Speaker 1: to because, um, when when that list came out about
- 26:39Speaker 1: Latin I there's no Latin X showrunners and that list
- 26:41Speaker 1: that came out, it's a bunch of a bunch of
- 26:42Speaker 1: different backgrounds, but apparently no latinos. Right. But I'm curious,
- 26:46Speaker 1: like who's helping the latin X showrunners, because like, Okay,
- 26:52Speaker 1: I don't want to talk to anybody, but there's quite
- 26:54Speaker 1: a few Latinos and Latinos that have their own shows
- 26:57Speaker 1: or or in projects, and it's like, how are they
- 26:59Speaker 1: not lift being up our people? It's great to lift
- 27:03Speaker 1: up everyone else. I totally think we should, but it's like,
- 27:06Speaker 1: how do you not see behind the camera that there
- 27:08Speaker 1: isn't your own people? And how it just it just
- 27:12Speaker 1: shocks me. It fucking shocks me, because you're totally right,
- 27:15Speaker 1: that's that's part of the problem, and it's truly exhausting
- 27:19Speaker 1: to do that work, because that was the thing about
- 27:22Speaker 1: women Crush Wednesdays. It was it came from that that
- 27:25Speaker 1: place of like how am I trying? Like I'm trying
- 27:30Speaker 1: to do comedy and and work in diverse places, but
- 27:33Speaker 1: people aren't allowing me to. I have to be the
- 27:37Speaker 1: only woman on the show, I have to be the
- 27:39Speaker 1: only Latino, or I can only do Latino shows, or
- 27:41Speaker 1: I have on the token this or whatever. And I
- 27:45Speaker 1: hated that because I was like, there's so many funny women,
- 27:47Speaker 1: why can't we all be hunish not all of us
- 27:48Speaker 1: be on a show? But how often there was especially
- 27:51Speaker 1: fifteen years ago there was six guys and and one
- 27:54Speaker 1: woman on a show, and and then and back then,
- 27:58Speaker 1: it was like it's you and Ali Wa and we
- 28:00Speaker 1: already got Ali Wong, so you'll do the next one.
- 28:02Speaker 1: And I'm like, why can't we both be on the
- 28:04Speaker 1: same show? What if I'm not available next month? Like
- 28:07Speaker 1: the ship don't make no fucking sense? And I had that.
- 28:09Speaker 1: I had someone say that to me recently about a
- 28:11Speaker 1: Latino show. We're doing this Latino show, and I was like, Oh,
- 28:14Speaker 1: I'm unavailable, and he goes, all right, we'll get you
- 28:16Speaker 1: on the next one. And then I came back like
- 28:18Speaker 1: a few days later, like, hey, I'm available now can
- 28:20Speaker 1: I still do that show? Did you already feel the spot?
- 28:22Speaker 1: And he goes, oh, we already have a woman on
- 28:24Speaker 1: the show. And I was like what what? I was like,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you have one woman on the show and I can't
- 28:30Speaker 1: be on the show now, Like like the Latinos are
- 28:32Speaker 1: still doing the bullshit that was happening fifteen years ago
- 28:35Speaker 1: in the white spaces, and now the white spaces are
- 28:37Speaker 1: trying to be more diverse. They're not great at it,
- 28:39Speaker 1: but they're trying. I saw all that ship, And that's
- 28:42Speaker 1: part of what Women Crushed was was I was trying
- 28:44Speaker 1: to put the work because I was like, there's funny
- 28:45Speaker 1: women everywhere, and because the comedy seems so segregated. But
- 28:50Speaker 1: I was like, I can I can see all because
- 28:53Speaker 1: I would go to all the scenes. I would that
- 28:54Speaker 1: was you know, that's what comedy as you do, all
- 28:56Speaker 1: the scenes, you do, all the shows, you do all
- 28:58Speaker 1: the stages. That's what I would do. And I'd be like,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I want her on my next show. I want I
- 29:03Speaker 1: want her, I want her, I want her. I want
- 29:05Speaker 1: her in every space because I know that there's enough
- 29:08Speaker 1: and there's also space for lifting up the people that
- 29:11Speaker 1: are coming up. Okay, you don't have ten minutes, bitch,
- 29:13Speaker 1: but you got a decent five. I'm gonna give you
- 29:15Speaker 1: five minutes, and you gotta rock that ship. I even
- 29:18Speaker 1: remember telling one white girl she fucking did terrible on
- 29:21Speaker 1: my show. I almost didn't rebook her because I was like,
- 29:24Speaker 1: but I knew that the set that she sent in
- 29:27Speaker 1: was really funny. So I rebooked her like a year
- 29:30Speaker 1: later because I'm like, all right, she'll probably, you know,
- 29:31Speaker 1: have a little more experience by then. And she came
- 29:35Speaker 1: and she fucking crushed it. And I told her straight up,
- 29:38Speaker 1: because I'm sometimes too honest for my own good. I
- 29:40Speaker 1: was like, girl, you know what, I almost didn't rebook
- 29:42Speaker 1: you because you did so bad on the first show.
- 29:45Speaker 1: I was like, but you killed it tonight. She was like,
- 29:46Speaker 1: you know what. I was so nervous. I had never
- 29:49Speaker 1: performed at the Hollywood Improv. That was my first time
- 29:51Speaker 1: performing in a comedy club. She was like, I was
- 29:53Speaker 1: so nervous that I that I did I ate ship
- 29:56Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I forget, I forget that
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'm actually handing up her unities. Two people and they're
- 30:01Speaker 1: getting seen because at my show they would always be
- 30:03Speaker 1: industry watching. And it's one of those things where it's
- 30:06Speaker 1: like when even when you do the work and you
- 30:08Speaker 1: have somebody sucks it up, that doesn't mean that you
- 30:10Speaker 1: shouldn't give them the chance. You know, you gotta keep
- 30:12Speaker 1: keep keep trying and trying because we're all in this
- 30:14Speaker 1: for the long or hopefully we're all those in this
- 30:17Speaker 1: for the long run. But with that, I do agree
- 30:20Speaker 1: that Latino they gonna be pulling each other up in
- 30:23Speaker 1: every direction, you know. Yeah, And this is fascinating to
- 30:26Speaker 1: me too, because any chance I get to shoot on
- 30:29Speaker 1: men in the community, I will take it right so,
- 30:32Speaker 1: because part of what I'm hearing is that the o
- 30:35Speaker 1: G comedy gate keepers, who probably are the ones most
- 30:39Speaker 1: likely to create opportunities, have been like older cheek on
- 30:42Speaker 1: on men. I'm thinking, you know, the Paul Rodriguez is
- 30:46Speaker 1: and the cheeches and the chongs and the George Lopez
- 30:49Speaker 1: and then this and that, like we know who they are,
- 30:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean, And especially kind of like
- 30:54Speaker 1: the way that this coincides with the me Too movement
- 30:57Speaker 1: and knowing how comedy guys have been really garbage just
- 31:00Speaker 1: women historically. Can we blame Latino men in particular for
- 31:05Speaker 1: the sorry state of comedy today? I think so, you know,
- 31:09Speaker 1: and I got it. That's another shout. I gotta give
- 31:11Speaker 1: it to Felipe that motherfucker loves having at least a
- 31:14Speaker 1: woman on the show. One woman sometimes too, if you know,
- 31:17Speaker 1: because you know when you have a three person show,
- 31:19Speaker 1: you know, he has his his um host, that motherfucker's
- 31:23Speaker 1: been hosting him for him for years. Rodrigo Torre's shout
- 31:26Speaker 1: out to him. It's funny, but he's like, that's the host,
- 31:29Speaker 1: so he'll have a middle act and then Felipe right,
- 31:32Speaker 1: so he does. He tries to put a woman on
- 31:33Speaker 1: the show and tries to have her. He wants features,
- 31:36Speaker 1: he wants women that are so funny that they can
- 31:39Speaker 1: go on second and he's really good at it. He's
- 31:41Speaker 1: giving a lot of opportunities to a lot of women,
- 31:43Speaker 1: and not just Latina's, you know, but he is. He's
- 31:45Speaker 1: very much like on the radar, who is a funny
- 31:47Speaker 1: woman that is Latina. And God bless him because I
- 31:51Speaker 1: know for a fact that that motherfucker looked at the
- 31:53Speaker 1: past and was like, why aren't we helping each other?
- 31:55Speaker 1: You know? And he's doing it. So that's the thing.
- 31:58Speaker 1: It does take people to help others because I know
- 32:00Speaker 1: my audience has expanded um through him. But I will
- 32:04Speaker 1: say also that these men that are in power, even
- 32:08Speaker 1: if it is just bookers in the middle of fu Usa,
- 32:12Speaker 1: like I had. Okay, one time I was opening for
- 32:14Speaker 1: Philippe and I was driving to the gig with a
- 32:18Speaker 1: friend who I've known for years. Me and him, super homies,
- 32:21Speaker 1: hell of funny Latino. I love him, And when we're
- 32:25Speaker 1: driving to the show, he's like, I can't wait for
- 32:28Speaker 1: you to meet this This book or you know, such
- 32:29Speaker 1: and such. He's so dope. He's gonna love you. He's
- 32:31Speaker 1: gonna think you're so funny. He's gonna book you on
- 32:33Speaker 1: all his shows. He has so many shows. Are gonna
- 32:35Speaker 1: make a lot of money working with him. And then
- 32:36Speaker 1: I go, we'll see. He kind of got offended. He
- 32:39Speaker 1: was like, what do you mean we'll see. I'm telling
- 32:41Speaker 1: you he's dope. I'm telling you he's cool. I'm telling
- 32:42Speaker 1: you gonna hook you up. I said, bro, we will see.
- 32:47Speaker 1: So get to the show. And we were doing to
- 32:50Speaker 1: shows like two nights, two different cities. I mean this home,
- 32:53Speaker 1: we were sharing hotels, we were driving together, right and um,
- 32:57Speaker 1: So we get to the first show and this booker
- 33:01Speaker 1: is upset that this full Chris my friend is having
- 33:07Speaker 1: to go on before me. Why is she going on
- 33:10Speaker 1: before you? That's disrespectful what he tells Chris. And Chris
- 33:14Speaker 1: is like, whoa buddy, you know, like she's really funny.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You have to trust Philippe. Felippe has her going on
- 33:20Speaker 1: as a feature because she is fucking funny. You have
- 33:22Speaker 1: to trust Felippe. He goes, I just think it's disrespectful.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Whatever in sidebar, that full try to show me my
- 33:30Speaker 1: my pay for that show. Phelippe was right there right
- 33:33Speaker 1: when he did it. And Phelippe even said, is all
- 33:35Speaker 1: the money there? And I said nope, and anyway, but
- 33:39Speaker 1: that whatever, I got my money whatever. But it was
- 33:41Speaker 1: the same guy, which is the character that this person is.
- 33:44Speaker 1: So then this full the second night, I think we
- 33:48Speaker 1: like get switched or something because it's full. I don't
- 33:51Speaker 1: remember what happened, what happens? What the really the real
- 33:55Speaker 1: story is this motherfucker was so upset that this Chris
- 34:00Speaker 1: friend of mine, he's known him for years, He's never
- 34:03Speaker 1: heard of me, So why would I go on after him.
- 34:06Speaker 1: He's so upset that he's going on before me, that
- 34:09Speaker 1: he's getting paid less to me, This booker pays my
- 34:13Speaker 1: friend out of his pocket extra money because he feels
- 34:16Speaker 1: so disrespected on behalf of this full Chris. Isn't that
- 34:20Speaker 1: fucking crazy? Because of me? Because of me and ps
- 34:24Speaker 1: I crushed these shows. The man's wife came up to
- 34:27Speaker 1: me and was like, you're so fucking funny girl. Oh
- 34:29Speaker 1: my god. Everyone loved me. People were coming up to me.
- 34:32Speaker 1: It didn't matter. He didn't care, and he just you know,
- 34:35Speaker 1: traditional chic got oh my cheese more bullshit. But I'll
- 34:39Speaker 1: always remember that, like, you're you're my people, you're at
- 34:43Speaker 1: my back, and you don't. You're you're fucking trying to
- 34:46Speaker 1: put me down, trying to make an awkwarry between me
- 34:49Speaker 1: and my friend. It's not fucking crazy paid amount of
- 34:51Speaker 1: his own money, that's ridiculous, but it's like some intense
- 34:55Speaker 1: commitment to the patriarchy because I keep the get like,
- 35:00Speaker 1: Damn Philippe is trying to uplift a woman to the
- 35:02Speaker 1: point where she's getting paid more than the other openers,
- 35:05Speaker 1: and this fool is like, nah, man, that's not how
- 35:07Speaker 1: we do things. What a question? Has this ever had
- 35:14Speaker 1: a woman performed before you? No? Oh? Like ever, who wait,
- 35:20Speaker 1: who are you talking about? Like the comedian friend Chris Chris? Yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 1: like or the guy that was upset, Like, has a
- 35:28Speaker 1: woman performed before him? Like a comedian, he's just a
- 35:33Speaker 1: guy that runs shows. This is a motherfucker that has
- 35:37Speaker 1: access to providing income for other people. He's yeah, I mean,
- 35:43Speaker 1: it's like, it's crazy. It's crazy to think about that ship.
- 35:46Speaker 1: It's also crazy because you know, uh, prop sixteen, it's
- 35:49Speaker 1: a prop sixteen. Yeah, that it's it's reversing that, um
- 35:53Speaker 1: how they struck down in firm and of action with
- 35:55Speaker 1: Prop two nine, And so we're voting on that for
- 35:59Speaker 1: this election, and you vote yes to repeal that because
- 36:02Speaker 1: we should give opportunities to everyone. But I just keep
- 36:06Speaker 1: thinking about how um people go out of their way
- 36:10Speaker 1: to do so much discriminating And it's like, how often
- 36:15Speaker 1: does that man get discriminated against. It's like he's passing
- 36:19Speaker 1: that bullshit down. He doesn't see how fucking terrible it is,
- 36:22Speaker 1: and he's doing it to his own people, which makes
- 36:24Speaker 1: me wonder what the funk he's doing to other people? How?
- 36:26Speaker 1: How does he see black people? How does he see
- 36:28Speaker 1: white people better than he obviously sees men and women
- 36:32Speaker 1: as completely two different species. It's fucking crazy. I'm really
- 36:36Speaker 1: upset now, right, It's so true. It's like we're expected
- 36:42Speaker 1: to like take the brunt of that because oh, the
- 36:45Speaker 1: Latino men, the Latinos are getting discriminated again. So then
- 36:48Speaker 1: they come and you know, want to puns it up
- 36:51Speaker 1: for us, right, I try to us and harm us, bucket,
- 36:54Speaker 1: you know, it's crazy. It also tells me though, like
- 36:57Speaker 1: if that's like one example, bowl of one gate keeper
- 37:01Speaker 1: and then at like a taste maker in some ways
- 37:04Speaker 1: because exactly he's choosing lineups and things. So how does
- 37:09Speaker 1: the actual comedy and the show suffer when fools like
- 37:13Speaker 1: that are the ones deciding who's performing and exactly. And
- 37:17Speaker 1: then think about the audience, because if say the three
- 37:20Speaker 1: of us were like, oh, we're gonna go to the
- 37:22Speaker 1: they have monthly comedy shows, let's just go because we
- 37:24Speaker 1: just want to go see comedy. And then because that
- 37:27Speaker 1: motherfucker is the one book in these shows, imagine the
- 37:30Speaker 1: bullshit we're watching right watching fucking, straight up carbon bullshit
- 37:36Speaker 1: comedians because this fool doesn't think women are funny, doesn't
- 37:40Speaker 1: think you know what I mean, No taste, no taste,
- 37:44Speaker 1: no taste. It's a it's a trickle down effect. And
- 37:50Speaker 1: that's why it's so frustrating, because I also think about
- 37:53Speaker 1: how often I've gotten messages from comedians in the past
- 37:56Speaker 1: that you know, stayed where they were, um, didn't keep going, uh,
- 38:01Speaker 1: only dabble with it now, And how often I get
- 38:04Speaker 1: messages from people like that in the past that are like,
- 38:06Speaker 1: you are I can't believe you're still doing it. You're
- 38:08Speaker 1: so strong. This game is really fucking hard. There's so
- 38:10Speaker 1: much people don't know, and you're still doing it. You're
- 38:13Speaker 1: still trying to make people laugh, You're still trying to
- 38:15Speaker 1: have a message, You're still trying to like do your
- 38:17Speaker 1: and still be you and still be happy. And I'm
- 38:19Speaker 1: always like, yeah, you're right, she fucking I am strong.
- 38:22Speaker 1: This ship it sucks. Yeah, I mean absolutely, speaking of
- 38:27Speaker 1: you know, we would love to support you and all
- 38:30Speaker 1: of your upcoming work. We hear that you have a
- 38:32Speaker 1: special that you're going to be a part of, So
- 38:34Speaker 1: can you talk to us, talk to our audience about
- 38:36Speaker 1: that so they can support they can go stream it.
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'm so excited. So Sarah Cooper, who does all those
- 38:41Speaker 1: Trump Trump lips sinking videos, she got a Netflix special
- 38:44Speaker 1: that's being produced by Animal Productions, which I'm sorry, Animal Pictures,
- 38:48Speaker 1: which is uh Natasha Leone and Maya Rudolf's company, and
- 38:51Speaker 1: so uh they and they reached out to me to
- 38:55Speaker 1: have a little role. And it's really cool because I
- 38:58Speaker 1: was texting with Natasha because you will, because I was like,
- 39:00Speaker 1: can I post something soon because I really want to
- 39:02Speaker 1: post these pictures I have and she was like yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I posted. She's like, you're in it, in it I
- 39:06Speaker 1: was like, oh, I'm in it and it so that's
- 39:10Speaker 1: coming out Tuesday. Uh was October um and it's it's
- 39:16Speaker 1: called Everything's Fine and that should be really a lot
- 39:18Speaker 1: of fun. And I'm very excited, um because I actually
- 39:21Speaker 1: I'm not allowed to say what I played, but what
- 39:23Speaker 1: I can say is I have a scene with Helen
- 39:25Speaker 1: Mirren and that was cool and I'll probably post that
- 39:29Speaker 1: picture soon. Um. Yeah, she was the fucking best. She
- 39:32Speaker 1: was so sweet. She had this hilarious um like she
- 39:37Speaker 1: was like how she gets along on sets. It's like
- 39:39Speaker 1: she's like, oh, you have to memorize everybody's name, and
- 39:41Speaker 1: you have to carry a bag of candy. And I
- 39:43Speaker 1: was like, oh my god, Helen Maren bribes people to
- 39:46Speaker 1: like her. I love it was like, I love her
- 39:51Speaker 1: candy to Everybody's so cute and and making this Downe
- 39:54Speaker 1: is in it. I didn't have a scene with her,
- 39:56Speaker 1: but she's in it. Wow. Yeah, Johnson Vanessa isn't one
- 39:59Speaker 1: of the scenes. I'm in um mersa tomay Uh. It's
- 40:03Speaker 1: a really cool, really cool special and of course Maya, Natasha,
- 40:07Speaker 1: Fred Armison, of course they're all in it, um and
- 40:10Speaker 1: that's cool. So yeah, tune into that. Um. And then
- 40:13Speaker 1: I have my album The Woke Bully, which is available
- 40:15Speaker 1: for purchasing and streaming everywhere you listen to the Ship,
- 40:18Speaker 1: and that came out in last year and I'm still
- 40:21Speaker 1: very proud of it. It's still very good. Sometimes I'll
- 40:23Speaker 1: listen to it and I'm like, damn you were Hella laughing.
- 40:26Speaker 1: It was like two near Wendo and I was like,
- 40:28Speaker 1: I don't did that ship? That was a fun one. Yes,
- 40:34Speaker 1: it is a hilarious album. It's a comedy album, right,
- 40:38Speaker 1: that's what you call it. It's an album. And um. Also,
- 40:40Speaker 1: Marcella is just like the ill hip hop head and
- 40:44Speaker 1: I love him, Yes, And I love how that comes
- 40:46Speaker 1: out in your comedy and in The Woke Bully is
- 40:50Speaker 1: definitely infused in there, which I always appreciate. You know
- 40:53Speaker 1: What's funny because I don't consider myself a hip hop head.
- 40:55Speaker 1: I've always said I'm a hip hop little sister because
- 40:57Speaker 1: you know, like I learned from my brothers, you know,
- 41:00Speaker 1: because I wasn't like super into the hip hop or
- 41:02Speaker 1: rap when I was young. And you know what, did
- 41:04Speaker 1: you guys read the Mariah Carey book. Yeah, it's I
- 41:08Speaker 1: really want to listen to it as an audio book
- 41:11Speaker 1: because it's it's a lot childhood stuff is a lot.
- 41:17Speaker 1: I read that section hell is slow and uh, and
- 41:20Speaker 1: apparently when she's reading it, she gets very emotional, like
- 41:23Speaker 1: holding it back emotionally that kind of thing. So I'm
- 41:27Speaker 1: actually saving the audio. I'm gonna listen to the audio
- 41:29Speaker 1: book on a long trip um when I can just
- 41:31Speaker 1: like cry alone in the car um and yeah that
- 41:35Speaker 1: that she is so good. But she she you know,
- 41:38Speaker 1: I loved her as a kid, and my sister loved her.
- 41:40Speaker 1: We still I still have all the CDs from from
- 41:42Speaker 1: when we were kids, and she has this great little
- 41:46Speaker 1: uh section. I won't spoil it, but she just talks
- 41:50Speaker 1: about how she loved having rappers in her in her
- 41:53Speaker 1: all of her songs, which we know, but I keep thinking, like, damn.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I think she was probably one of the reasons I
- 41:58Speaker 1: was able to transit into like really appreciating rapping hip
- 42:02Speaker 1: hop because I was like, we love Mariah. My brothers were,
- 42:05Speaker 1: of course, were obsessed with the woutang, so like when
- 42:07Speaker 1: you know, yeah, when the worlds collided, you're just like, Okay,
- 42:10Speaker 1: I guess we can all listen to this and then
- 42:12Speaker 1: it kind of like you start bleeding into the other ship.
- 42:15Speaker 1: And I mean I was, I was an older team
- 42:17Speaker 1: when I got into wrapping hip hop, but yeah, I
- 42:19Speaker 1: mean I do. I always find it fascinating when people
- 42:22Speaker 1: consider me a hip hop app but I guess I do.
- 42:24Speaker 1: I do know more than the average person. But yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 1: I do love hip hop. Yeah, and I appreciate, you know,
- 42:32Speaker 1: seeing those parts of your personality come out, especially going
- 42:35Speaker 1: back to this idea of like Latina was in comedy
- 42:37Speaker 1: and what are the jokes about? And what's funny? And
- 42:40Speaker 1: I will scream at the next like Latina comedian whose
- 42:44Speaker 1: punchlines are just putting on a Spanish accent, Like the
- 42:47Speaker 1: accent itself is the punchline. Honestly, I hate that ship.
- 42:50Speaker 1: And it's so overdone. It's accents alone or not funny.
- 42:55Speaker 1: And today I was having lunch and I had, of
- 42:56Speaker 1: course cheatas you right, and that's it, and I'm joking, yeah, yeah,
- 43:09Speaker 1: we're done like whatevers. I mean, miha, And I was like, Mama,
- 43:18Speaker 1: that's exactly what we're talking about. I mean, and we
- 43:22Speaker 1: we get like we've had men on our I g lives,
- 43:24Speaker 1: like talk about the way we talk, right, because we
- 43:27Speaker 1: don't sound like, what what their ideas Latinas sound like
- 43:32Speaker 1: exactly because we're not sucking saying hot cheetos and mi
- 43:35Speaker 1: ha or not Latinas. It's also funny too because I also, uh,
- 43:40Speaker 1: because mama, you're what your third generation? Right? Yeah? Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: so I what I find humorous because I don't know
- 43:48Speaker 1: if you guys know Lydia Popovitch. She is also I
- 43:50Speaker 1: want to say, third generations, very funny comedian, very funny
- 43:54Speaker 1: Latina comedian. And it's so funny to me because people
- 43:59Speaker 1: will they'll they'll they when they come to booking stuff,
- 44:02Speaker 1: they would rather have someone that looks like Mala, like Lydia,
- 44:06Speaker 1: because they're like, oh, she looks Latina And then they're like,
- 44:09Speaker 1: oh now, now tell us about your experience, with which
- 44:11Speaker 1: I'm third generation. I'm I followed on my dream fuck everybody,
- 44:17Speaker 1: and they're just like and then me, I'm fucking first generation,
- 44:22Speaker 1: Like yes, I like a motherfucker. But you know when
- 44:26Speaker 1: you look at me or like, well, she's not what
- 44:28Speaker 1: we are looking for, so we need a different look
- 44:31Speaker 1: so we can talk about the real experience and like,
- 44:33Speaker 1: I have the real experience. Are you crazy? Then? Are
- 44:37Speaker 1: you talking about It's like we're we're all Latinas. That's
- 44:42Speaker 1: what's fucking crazy is we are all Latinas. But the experience,
- 44:46Speaker 1: like the visual experience is what people are really trying
- 44:49Speaker 1: to consume right now, which is why it goes back
- 44:51Speaker 1: to like after Latinos, that whole conversation and you know,
- 44:54Speaker 1: anti colorism within Latino communities, and it's just like we
- 44:58Speaker 1: have We're barely there. We're barely starting that conversation, you know,
- 45:02Speaker 1: which is crazy. We're just decades behind, honestly, really and truly, Marcella,
- 45:12Speaker 1: thank you so much to keep going. I can keep
- 45:14Speaker 1: talking shit. Ye, I'll come back so we can keep
- 45:21Speaker 1: it going. Yeah, I love it. Maybe what we can
- 45:24Speaker 1: do is an Instagram live. We can get some input
- 45:28Speaker 1: from the audience and make fun of people in real time.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Let's do it. Marcella Guio, comedian, woke, bully, all around
- 45:38Speaker 1: bad ditch. Thank you so much for yes. And for
- 45:47Speaker 1: those of you who don't know, Marcella does do an
- 45:49Speaker 1: iconic Beyonce impersonation that you can find on YouTube. I believe,
- 45:53Speaker 1: I think so. Yeah, I think it's still up all right,
- 45:57Speaker 1: uh and that's it alright, Look, Mortis, thank you so
