- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello and welcome to another edition of the 9-Renoise Podcast Parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor at 9-Renoise.com and here with me to celebrate the very first win Monday of the season.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: Mr. Akshaas, David Dula Akshaas, how are we feeling, man?
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right, we're just exactly right.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, first win.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: And last year, I feel like I was saying all the time.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: There's no such thing as like a moral victory in football and the NFL, either winner you lose right you're going to have to learn something you might as well learn it while winning so yeah the nine the nine years once and now they get to It's to go back to the office and see what they can improve on knowing their one or no and in first place in the division so really I think.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: We should just stop the regular season now, stop it.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Get to the go to the playoffs.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I really need to play any more game now.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think, I think we're good.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like to be general, so I didn't see the, I know you did.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: I know you saw the Cardinals Saints game for reasons that I do not have to divulge, but you can if you wish to.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but I was watching where it was that had the Rams Texan's game kind of happening concurrently with Fortinanders.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It's a sea ox game.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: I got to say not, um, not a great showing for the NFC West in general.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, the Rams looks...
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: absolutely terrible.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: Offensively, there are defense, I think, maybe a little trouble.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: They couldn't do anything, and then also, and they could, and they scored twice, and that was enough.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: The Cardinals probably had more trouble than they should have against the Saints, and then, obviously, the Seahawks didn't play particularly yesterday, but the Niners didn't really either.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: So, in spite of the fact that three of the teams are want to know, not a great start to the division,
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, so I was watching the Cardinals game in part because I think I didn't talk about it a lot last year but a couple years ago, I would casually mention that like, I would bet on just football games.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: So the Cardinals were one of the teams because I was like, it's the Saints.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I was sweating at the end, so that was not fun.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_01]: But I mean, I don't know, they like, week one is weird.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that's sort of the general refrain that you're going to hear a lot from us is week one is weird.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: You don't really like it's not predictive of much.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: So you kind of just take the win and go from there.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, they did not really look great against what is a very bad Saints team.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: But granted, I think the Saints sort of played and not to lose very conservative
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: They just, like, it was just, I mean, we'll see him next week and see just exciting or boring, it might be, the Rams, I think, like their defenses legit, but the offense was good enough, which frankly, like, I think we're going to be saying a lot about for the 49ers today, and I mean, theoretically, if the game, if the 49ers had lost to the Seahawks, we'd be saying the same things about the Seahawks, like their offense was,
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: good enough fish.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, I mean, it'll be a dock fight for sure.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's early.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: But there's no one in the division, including the 49ers, unfortunately, where I'm like, oh, yeah, Super Bowl contender for sure.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has a chance mostly everyone has a chance to get there.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I think.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's good to get the division win.
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's, it's, everything seems so close.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Want to know that matter so well.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the same number of division wins that they had last year.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: If I'm not mistaken, sad to say.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so it wasn't a great win, but it was a win on the last 17, 13 over the C-Hox in Seattle.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: Brock Perty remains undefeated against the C-Hox in Seattle.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's only lost in one time since he's been a starter in the NFL.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: I know I know quarterback wins not a stat, but whatever you know what I mean.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: So let me say, the 49ers have not lost with Brock Perti as their quarterback to the Seahawks in Seattle, and it only lost once in the entirety of time in eight games.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: So not too bad.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty ugly game.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: As you mentioned, I think either Fred Warner or Nick Bosa said the same thing that you said about the whole like,
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: you'd rather if you're going to learn lesson you'd rather learn lesson in a win.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_00]: Frankly, the other thing about this is I think last year's team loses this game under pressure.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think they fall under the like it just becomes because it it was feeling that way, right?
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: It was like it was barreling like one thing after the other was not going well.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: the special teams in the kicking and aateate and then Brock gets a little, he gets into his hero mode a little bit in the second half trying to like jumpstart the offense, throws a sooner sections.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even the game winning touchdown is sort of indicative of that and when you when I were we're messaging back and forth during the game and it's just like that that gunslinger mentality that he has sometimes it pays off like it did in the end.
- 5:25[SPEAKER_00]: Sometimes
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: very like headscratching interceptions like the to the through today.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's kind of something that's going to have to live with if he's going to be the guy.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know that you're going to coach that out of him completely.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: And in the case of like the game and in touchdown, if you coach that out of him all together, if he's just like so risk-averse, then he doesn't make that throw, maybe they don't win.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: They probably lose the game because they either successfully tie it and then the C.O.C.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: go down and kick a field goal and win or whatever, you know, like they probably lose that game if he doesn't attempt that throw.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, he's such an interesting quarterback because he plays like, and I think I've sort of said this both on the podcast and just to you, Robert.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: He plays like he has like trail answers, physical abilities.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: But he doesn't.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: But the difference is he sort of has that baseline,
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: ability to sort of like keep the offense going which makes him like like you have a pretty good floor that way and I mean like when rock pretty was on in this game he looked every bit of 53 million dollar quarterback right like he was making perfect like tight window throws throwing receivers open dissecting an offense made it look easy but when he wasn't on it looked ugly like ugly ugly I also
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: That the 2024 49ers lose this game.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think the main difference says which will get to is one the defenses just so much better and then too.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: These 49ers had Christian McCaffrey and just 49ers didn't know a little bit of a difference, doesn't it?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who would have thought that CMC would be that important?
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: No kidding.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's good.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: Very important things.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll talk more about some of those other things in a little bit.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: So we do some news things that we need to cover before we get started.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: So the first news that I woke up to today, and I'm sure this was true for most of you, is that the 49ers have extended Colton McKibitz.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Three years, $45 million, I think, math works out.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's an interesting move for both sides.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think for the 49ers it's a guy that they trust as they are starting right tackle who is shown signs of improvement throughout his tenure as the starter.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_00]: it like relatively reasonable as a as a as a deal.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's the same amount of money that the chiefs paid jail and more in the off season.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: Who's by the way sitting on their bench.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: So he's maybe the most expensive backup tackle in the league.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: You can have your kibbles with the player, but it does allow for some continuity at the position for the next couple of seasons.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: It kind of looks like Dominic Tune is the right guard now.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of unusual.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: like there's there's some movement kind of going on, um, like there's, so you got to create that for what it is and I think in in the long run like it's a lot cheaper than it would have been to sign somebody off the street, which they wouldn't have done.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: For McKibitz's perspective, it's kind of interesting like it just says something about him, he must feel comfortable because I feel like a guy with his starting experience even if he is not like great, probably would have
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: you know, five or six more billion dollars on the open market to be a disweighted until the off season.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: So just he must just like be in here, I guess.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's part of it.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so I think you and I might have like different, like a similar final perspective on this deal but different like starting one.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: I was not a fan when I first like heard of this.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think like, thing called McKibitz is like quite competent, right?
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: Don't give me wrong.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: 15 mill a year is pretty okay for like a starting tackle, but this seems like a position the nine are should be investing in the draft like like that's really that's the difference right is that like yeah I mean you mentioned the chiefs right the reason Jalen Moore is on the bench because the chiefs drafted Josh Simmons in the first round and he was good enough to be their starting lap tackle like
- 9:59[SPEAKER_00]: But they still have the human, they still have the human off side machine at Ray Tackle.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: So that's the part that doesn't that confuses me.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: So I just think that like, it's like, I understand like the 49ers takes some lot of a cost effective approach to their offensive line, particularly on the interior, but also like on everything, but like left tackle, right with Trent Williams.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really know if this like fits that though like this I've all the players that have been like 49er's offensive linemen to not named Trent Williams.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_01]: This is not McKimitz is not the guy who would have expected to be the like resigned like Jake Brandl to I guess but like that's really kind of like that sort of like but on the other hand.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: and that allows them to focus more on like fixing left tackle when Trent Williams goes.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think the other point you're like bringing up that's interesting is that like, yeah, this basically is just deciding that Dominic Poon is gonna be a guard, which I mean, he's like already probably their second best off that's of Lyman, right?
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe like it's makes sense to not mess with a good thing but on the other hand, part of me thinks,
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like are you like are you sure if he's really that good like a guard maybe you can make him into one of these like premium positions so I don't know not.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's an interesting piece of business and I don't hate it, but I'm not.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not the most excited about it as opposed, I'd say.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the one thing that stands out to me is the thing you kind of alluded to, like they couldn't put themselves in a position where they needed to starting tackles in the draft or in free agency.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: like that just wasn't that wasn't going to be a smart move and if the push is like well they definitely need to draft transfer placement next year which I think it's something we've been talking about for several years now but if you're thinking you know this point is career even if you place for another two seasons including this one you draft the guy next year that's that'll be ready to replace him
- 12:22[SPEAKER_00]: Or you just, you know, just keep on trying to see if you can go, you know, all pro to all pro, and just like try to see if you can make the bucks trade you, Tristan Worf's next off season, you know, when you're right, when you're on transwriter retire, just keep this train rolling.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think I've decided that's the plan.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: What do you think?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I would not be imposed for the state like.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, same same same same Whatever the six round or whatever that that the the game Washington.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we back in areas.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see in three seasons
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: There we go.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's I think it's a brilliant bit of business if you can make a work, but I don't think it's going to happen Anyway, yeah, so that's kind of my thinking on it.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see how that how the plays out.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think fine is really kind of wearing with it All right, less than fine about this is actually going to be things that are fine things that are less than fine
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: and then we'll go back and forth so it'll be really nice.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: Um, things that are less and fine is the fact that both George Kittal and John Jennings did not finish yesterday's game.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: George Kittal, I think had 20 snaps in the first quarter before he left the game after scoring the 49ers first touchdown, um, it's hamstring injury for him, uh, for John Jennings that appears to be a shoulder, um, he looks real upset like at the end of the game.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: I guess that they showed him on the screen like late in the game.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_00]: It might have been after he heard himself and that would explain it.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: This is the problem with it when I go places, I don't have sound.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: I have no idea what's happening.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: So just like, oh, John looks sad.
- 13:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's probably sad.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: I think I remember the broadcast.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_01]: I do believe that was a...
- 13:53[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, like he's not playing and then they like turned to him and he was like like he was just like in a lot of pain.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, sort of like yeah, he was sitting next to maybe Russell Gates or something like that on the bench or something.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, so they're both due to have MRIs today.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: I have not seen anything come through on any of that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_00]: Not a deal for a team that we were already like the past catching options, not great, but we're like at least they have George Giddell.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really hoping it's percussion area, especially with Kiddell, but man, when you get taken out of the first game of the season in the first quarter, I just can't help but be a little concerned about that.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: If they really like it, this is the Super Bowl you haven't played through it.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I would be very shocked if either guy plays against this Saints at a minimum.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, I, this, it feels to me like this is a multi week thing, which would like really suck.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: But who knows, well,
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: We will find you will probably know already by the definition to this you'll be yelling at your your podcast place be like yeah.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, so I was just pulling this up.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: that uh... so there's a a gap you know there's always guys on on social media there's a there's this uh... twitter accounts uh... pro football doc he he says basically on the video
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: that he thinks the team was being overly cautious and trying to, because Sam Strings can be like two-month injuries if they're real serious, and so maybe, that's what he's throwing out there.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we'll see.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I have no theory.
- 15:50[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so the other news is that apparently Kendrick born his back.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_00]: which is, which is good, like I'm in favor of that.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: If, especially if Chau of Jennings is gonna miss some time, if we learn to anything yesterday, OXIs, it's that.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Brock Tready doesn't really trust any of his wider severs, not name Ricky Purcell, and that needs to change.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously he has no history with Kendrick Boren, but he's always been a guy that seems to kind of fold into the mix pretty well.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think that will be a good veteran guy to get in there.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's, you know, I think you make the argument.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's another kind of mid-tier player in the same ilk as a, you know, Russell Gage, a Mark has vowed as Scanling, none of whom made even a small dent in yesterday's game.
- 16:44[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he's also shown, maybe slightly a tier above what those guys have shown in their careers.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: You have to kind of trust that if he's ready to go, that he'll be able to kind of just slide in and be ready to take over in whatever capacity.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we don't need another like take over the game kind of guy.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: We won't maybe be able to.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_00]: But we certainly need someone who can count on a little bit.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's really the thing I think is important is that like.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: MVS played quite a bit.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is sort of we talked about this in the preview that like you're an injury away from.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_01]: you know players who are just here like having to play big snaps that happened with Mark has been to all this gambling and yeah like there's some level of like I think familiarity is the problem.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think Brock pretty like I think Perty wasn't really looking for them.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Shanahan was calling plays for them.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like there's a whole bunch of reasons why I don't think we saw like the other receivers get involved and I do think that like we can't
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's just a level of like, yeah, like, he gets open.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he's quite similar to John Jennings in that sense.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_01]: The difference being, of course, that, like, I think Jennings has acquiesced himself much better as the third receiver than born did.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I think the Niners were also better when Jennings kind of like hit his try and versus his own country, where he was around.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's a good signing.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very incentive, late and deal from what I understand,
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Even when the receiving room finally like shakes out, I do think that like boring would be a good addition to happy adds a different flavor.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: then what the Niners have.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, yeah, something we've been talking about in the lead up to this year all, you know, knowing that Brandon and I are coming back at some point, and obviously we have to add Jennings to the mix in terms like what his timeline will be.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: It will be interesting to see, you have to assume, win fully healthy, it's Iook, Pierce All, Jennings.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I assume Jordan Wildkins will remain in the mix only because I don't think they're going to let him go, right?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: And then it will be really interesting because it'll just be like, Mart has vowed as scantling the whole, Kendrick Born, Russell Gage, like a whole crew of people basically fighting for one maybe two jobs, and you have to kind of think Skymore fits in there somehow, like as a, as like the only returning option of this junction.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, I think,
- 19:21[SPEAKER_01]: Putting my conspiratorial general manager had go for it.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that like Skymore is definitely like going to be the first cut.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, and when Watkins like gets back, the reason I think this is because I think Watkins will be the punter Turner because they were training him at it.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_02]: And like, I don't think that.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think more was like particularly like phenomenal in how he was which like,
- 19:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like the easiest position to play, but like, come on, like, I don't, he didn't do enough to make you be like, oh, like, this is the guy he was close to.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's the best return that they've had in a while, but I think from there Russell gauges on the practice squad, that's just call ups and then you probably go with some level of like, M VS goes to the practice squad and then from there, I think,
- 20:22[SPEAKER_01]: You sort of have to figure it out at another position, essentially, if you want to keep everyone around.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, they have 10 offensive linemen, and just thrown it out there.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: She's on at this point, right?
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: Like, maybe teams don't really want to sign, like, developmental offensive linemen to their roster because it's like, midway through the season, so you can sneak him onto the practice squad.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: The other thing, of course, is that, like, if Kiddles is going to miss some time, like they got on the tight end.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: Lots of, well, actually, well, Brandon, Brandon Wilson is still on the practice squats, so that's an option for at least a couple of weeks, and yeah, I think all and all I think having, having get a born back is, is good for the, to help the team, and Kyle loves him.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think so that probably helps too.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: My last bit of information, or my last is not news, but it's really just like something we need to talk about, and I'm sure we'll talk about it.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_00]: and Nazium throughout this podcast.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: And it's really just three words and the three words are Jake moody why great words to two your words I would like to add the additional words which were much longer, but I think summarize my point, which is that Matt Prater was available up until Thursday.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so for those of you who didn't
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: phenomenal was in Denver, maybe want to superbowl with them.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: Honestly, you don't remember, kick to 64-yard fuel goal was just like kicking in airs like at a high school in Arizona with his family to stay ready.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: The bills kicker goes on IR, so they call him up, he flies in on Thursday, play Sunday night football, three for three, nails a game-winning fuel goal once the game for the bills.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Great game, by the way, if you didn't watch one of the best
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: That is just on the street, like the best, the best kicker in the NFL right now is probably Brandon Aubrey from the Cowboys, another guy who's just off the street.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: You see, he was playing soccer like, there is no good kickers are out there.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: I guess is the general point I'm making.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is, this is not a hard thing to sort of like navigate,
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: Kicking is not like finding a quarterback.
- 22:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's not like, oh, you really got to like, there's not a lot of options.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: And like, you don't really know it's going to work out.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, no, with a kicker, like, there's plenty of like league average kickers just not with the job right now.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: That's just like, yeah, that's just how it goes.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like independent of like everything
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Part of me's like, you miss a kick, you miss a kick.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like, is it really like, is it really that much is sort of like harp on missing like, and I don't know, was it to 26-yard fuel goal?
- 23:32[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, that sucks, but like, everyone has done it.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_01]: But the reality is, Moody isn't judged like clean slate, he's judged on like a three-year history of this point.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_01]: All of which include like many, many, many missed kicks at many different times.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I mean, I kind of glad we're doing this now because if we were doing it later in that episode, it would kind of do rail the whole thing.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I kind of figured, yeah, this would be a it's own, it's own thing independently.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_00]: Matt Prater 19 years in the NFL.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_00]: Kick very briefly for Atlanta in his rookie season, then went to Denver.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: was in Denver for seven years, was in Detroit for seven years with the last four years in Arizona.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_00]: And now he's in Buffalo.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Actually, it was less than four total years in Arizona, but what happened?
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: I don't remember what happened to him last year.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's 41 years old, which is the same age that I am, but I can't kick the ball, so there we go.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I can't, it's just not fit and not well.
- 24:40[SPEAKER_00]: His career, a field goal percentage is 83.7% that's pretty good.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a great leg on him too.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, obviously he's 40, so I don't really know anymore, but like, that's what I remember.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and some of it and some of it I think was he played in Denver.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_00]: So I think initially people were kind of like a like about the distance because it's like it's Denver.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_00]: The ball goes and then he went to Detroit and it's like, ah, but it's inside and Arizona was like, oh, but it's inside.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: So this Buffalo thing will be a real test for him to see how this goes and obviously so far.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: So good three for three last night, including the game winner.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 25:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, all that to say, I'm not, I'm not going to take too much of Kyle Shane Hans comments about like, about Jake Moody and the immediate aftermath to heart mostly because like he's not going to like fire guy on national television or in front of reporters like nobody who asks him the question is Jake Moody going to continue to be your kicker is going to get a real answer like so I'm not like if they
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: the time to move on and some move on the only sort of caveat to that would be that he has said things like this before and it's getting to any still here so I don't know what to take of it but like that in and of itself I'm not like oh well he said it so it's definitely not going to happen like whatever I don't just I I'm going to hold myself to like thirty seconds on this because this is not the point of like our episode I just don't
- 26:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I like loyalty to your players as a coach.
- 26:23[SPEAKER_01]: That's good, right?
- 26:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you should be like that, right?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like publicly defend them privately, beret them, you know, that type of thing.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: But like frankly, I don't, I just don't know what Jake Moody has shown the 49ers in like, in his careers thus far, to like make you think that like, there's something in here that can be unlocked.
- 26:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he doesn't have the leg that I think people thought he had when he was drafted.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like he's striping like 55-year-old fuel goals.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's not very consistent.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: It just, it's not like a, I don't know, like a guy who has like a cannon for a leg.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then you're like, okay, like if we can just work with him and if you can finally figure out this accuracy thing, like he's like, I just, that's not what we have here.
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been enough time.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: And this just goes back to the age-old like state like issue, which we won't get into, but I didn't want to read it up.
- 27:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is why you don't draft kickers.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_01]: Or if I do, you don't draft them until like the seventh round.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I don't know, there's, I feel like there's too much sunk cost, like they'll see here right now, right?
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like you gotta, it's all about who's the best kicker for you next week.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: And if the Niners think that's Jake Moody still, then find whatever,
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: That has to be the only way that you're like thinking about this, like this.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, who is going to give us the best chance of winning against the same?
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: That's who your kicker should be.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: Right there with you.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_00]: No further thoughts.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: On that, I was going to see really quickly, and this is not working as effectively as I thought.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there it is.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_00]: Um, sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: it's like the the cap thing can't matter anymore like the dead money the dead money situation is like 400 thousand dollars of the next two years like and they actually have cap savings like sorry that doesn't work for me anymore like and it's two two years of cap savings it's basically one point two and one point four million dollars next season so
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: at that conversation's over like it's time to move on if it's time to move on.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: So anyway, all right.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: So let's let's go ahead and move into the one up one down section as we really get into things and that segment is brought to you by our friends at Underdog Fantasy.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_00]: Football is back and underdog is the best place to make picks and when money all season long playing on Underdog is easy.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: Just pick whether your favorite players will go higher or lower on
- 29:07[SPEAKER_00]: And you could win up to 5,000 times your cash.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: You can play with his little as one dollar.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_00]: And now I'll send it over to Oksha, so tell us a little bit about his experience using underdog.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, everyone.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I have a really great time using underdog.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's really fun and simple.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_01]: I particularly like how easy it is to just go through, see all the NFL games, make your picks.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: So in our preview episode, I mentioned that I was
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: No rushing stat line.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think I wanted to go higher on debos, a love it in a half rushing yards.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I was right, debo, yeah, I mean, so I didn't make any money because I added some other things.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: Those pretty bad in particular.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think I'm very good at figuring out how many yards quarterbacks are gonna run for.
- 29:56[SPEAKER_01]: But like, so what was me?
- 29:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is why I say don't listen to me and I'm very good at this, but
- 30:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's just, it's so much fun, it's, it's a really easy platform to use.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: I always like, despite the fact that I suck at it, I have a good time.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think like, like I'll always say, if you can treat it like responsibly, it's a great way to sort of just enjoy what, like amping up watching football more.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Or like whatever sports you like for me, it's football.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I usually use underdog just for football.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: And you can download the app today and sign up a promo code noise to score $50.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: and bonus funds when you play your first five dollars, that's promo code noise.

- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: Underdog, make picks win money.

- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: In present in the state, we're on drug fantasy operates.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_01]: Terms apply, see assets.underdogfansc.com, slash web, slash playing, get terms, underscore DFS, underscore.html for details,

- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll go and start one up one down.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oxa, as you get first dibs on the ups for the first win of the season.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: All right, he rubber.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: So first, I'm going to light.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: She'll for a new article series I'm doing on this site because I think that'll help explain sort of where I'm going to go with this.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing this like power ranking of the different position groups after each game.
- 31:42[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, which ones I think help the most for the foreigners when and which ones hurt the most.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_01]: So, with that said, I'm going to go for the position group that I thought was the most beneficial and it's going to be a bit counterintuitive
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm going to go with this skill position group.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: In particular, I thought like the main guys for the 49ers really stepped up when they needed them to.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's of course, Christian McCaffrey, who got like force fed the ball.
- 32:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was so surprised when I saw this, like the 31 touches for like 140 yards.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: That's like, that's a lot.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's not ideal.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_01]: You don't really want that,
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: He carried them.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_01]: They needed someone to be the guy in Christian McAfee was the guy, but it's not just McAfee, right?
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Like Ricky Pierce all over a hundred yards receiving, really nifty like move on, recoil into on that drive to score the touchdown.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_01]: Generally looked pretty good.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there was only one target in the end zone where I thought he could have probably like fought for a touchdown, but that's not either here nor there.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: He really, like he looks like a gamer, right?
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: with other receivers who are actually like, you know, trusted by your quarterback.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot there.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: You strike had two big catches.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, kiddo look phenomenal when he was playing.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: Jennings had a great catch when he was playing.
- 33:13[SPEAKER_01]: As if Luke Ferrell and I'm literally just saying everyone who made a catch, which is you're missing too.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my god, so I'll go back and get to like Luke Ferrell.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_01]: One catch, it was a big fork down convergent conversion.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_01]: Brian Robinson, like he didn't look super explosive, but like he looked competent there.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think he was clearly uncomfortable with some of the offense.
- 33:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I do think that they have to use him a little differently, the kind of just put him and like do McAfrey things.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:43[SPEAKER_00]: He was definitely wasn't working.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but like then, of course, the unsung hero as you told me at the end of the game to Jake.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_01]: The other Jake, the one who won the game for the Niners, Jake Tonges.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, three monster catches, none of which were very easy.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like the last one, especially, very surprising, but in general, like I thought like there was never a moment where I thought the skill position groups weren't like competing out there.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: And I really think like on offense, it was those guys who like flipped it.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously used to quarterback so much we'd go through him, but really I feel like Like we said, you don't have Christian care for you don't win this game.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have Ricky parasol.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: You don't win this game You don't have Jake Tanjas.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: You probably don't win this game.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_01]: It would have fun.
- 34:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so like I think that was exciting because the first two names in particular these are names who you were like We don't really know how they're gonna look this year, but we they're gonna be important and they look good.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, that's my up for sure
- 34:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm definitely agree with all that, especially Jake, not the Jake, we we expected, but the Jake we deserved in the end.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_00]: And like I said, just great to see Ricky Pierce all like,
- 35:05[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think he's going to be a dude, as does a kid say.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like he just looks apart.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like he does not look at a place at all that double move that he put on Requel and at the end of that last drive was fantastic.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: And Brock put it right now.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, just dropped it right in his arms.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like it was like perfectly executed play.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a, I think it's going to be a lot for him to be like the number one option for the next couple of weeks, and so that should be kept in mind, like they're asking a lot of him, but gosh, like imagine me's like the fourth option.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: Oh yeah, oh, that's gonna be just great when I get back and kiddals back and Jennings is back and And McAfrey's out there.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh gosh, he's like the fifth option and if that's your fifth guy like Thank you like good luck to everybody else like I'm feeling pretty good about that I feel good about him as the number one guy I'm mine concern is not that he can't handle it.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: It's that
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Man, they're really looking on him if it's just him and McAfrey basically and that concerns me a little bit for the next couple of weeks, but yeah, I like the future that is is really good.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: I was in agreement there, but I also wanted to highlight just like is like I'm okay, so it's week one again, we have to say that, so we have to put this in
- 36:27[SPEAKER_00]: in kind of a you know air quotes that's that whole thing but I think um the defense might be back question mark I don't know I mean again I'm not sure how good this Seattle offense is going to be
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: And this game, it may end up at, you know, the end of the season, like this Seattle offense is kind of a bottom of the pat kind of group and we're like, oh, okay, well, yeah, maybe not.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_00]: But, I mean, I don't know, Robert's all seems to have be pressing all the right buttons.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's still work to be done, like the past rush was not.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_00]: fantastic and in terms of like it didn't really generate a bunch much in the way of sacks but I also I mean we've also seen situations with this defense before where like a guy like Sam Darnell just stands back there and just like slings it around and Darnell didn't even have a hundred past yards until the fourth quarter um so I don't know I think I think it was great and you know highlighting obviously the usual names Fred Warner Nick Bosa but but also I thought D winters look great
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think Marcus Seagull, Seagull looked great again, apologies to him.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_00]: We're not a green.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: The Eleanor will know it was utterly fantastic and didn't give up any past receptions yesterday.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, upton's style kind of grew into the game to come a little while to get going, but he had a couple of moments here and there.
- 37:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's, I think he's gonna be fine.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_00]: Khalia Davis I thought had a good game just on the whole the defense looks more together than it has in the last two seasons and I think that is good because this team eventually I think the offense will catch up but the defense is going to need to do some work over this first month or so the season to kind of keep them where they need to be I think.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: I totally agree Robert.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think the one thing
- 38:15[SPEAKER_01]: that was not great that you highlighted is the past where Ashina, I mean, you really want them to win before.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: And they did at the very end when Nick Bosa kind of won the game when they, when they for some reason decided a triple team Michael, which, you know, you're a go for it.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's why you drafted him.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just let it all three of those guys block you and the nickel take care of the rest of it.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: I still think that's like
- 38:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think Solar knew that like his past rush wasn't winning and he pulled in the blitzes and the blitzes worked right I mean like they didn't sack Sam Darnell, but they sped up his clock there was a lot of quick throws great tackling I mean I think the secondary was a outplayed well obviously they they competed right like but Jason Pinnock look great geometer Lenore was fantastic another green was like, you know, he was a gamer he like,
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: He won some, he lost some.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: Upton Stout was not doing great.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was sort of settled in, like you said.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_01]: And it just like, it looked good.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: It looked fun and it looked fast.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: It looked aggressive really, which is like, basically the hallmark of the 49ers defense.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: It's sort of why it works so beautifully is that this is a defensive scheme that's very like, sit back, don't allow a lot of yard, like don't allow big plays, force them to play.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_01]: But it's simultaneously a very aggressive structure right with the players.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's always about like run at the football, punch it out like tackle hard, tackle fast, warm tackle and it was there.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like on the fumble for us by Samo that Siegel recovered, they're like 549ers around JSN at the time of the fumble, like they swore him to him and that's just so that's exactly what you want to see from this defense.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_01]: I was really encouraged by it.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: I thought like the defense was the reason they won this game in apart from both our ups are the things that are different than last year.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: Is that like we had some of the like some of your horses back on offense and your defense just
- 40:26[SPEAKER_01]: played so much better.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one of my favorite parts, I think, again, just sort of speculating, was it the end of the first half when when Solid Kind of went into like a pre-vent defense on 3rd and 12 or something like that, and Shane and Hank all the time now.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_00]: and said no, we are not doing this and ended up being the right move, right, because they didn't end up scoring there, um, which ended up being a bigger bigger deal, right, because if they get, if they get eight yards there and they kick a field goal, well, then they could kick a field goal at the end of the game and win it.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: So it mattered, like I thought that was kind of cool, but it was just made me laugh because it's like, oh, well,
- 41:04[SPEAKER_00]: Salah's not, not completely without fail.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there we go.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_00]: So the down, we'll, we'll, we'll start.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna go first just because, you know, I'm going to change that.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to talk to about Jake Moody.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_00]: But really, this is the special team's general, not great.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what happened on that blocked, on the blocked field goal.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure how much of that is on Moody.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: I couldn't really see it.
- 41:34[SPEAKER_00]: It looked like a mess in the center.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not really sure what happened.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_00]: It was just not great.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: In general, the special teams still doesn't appear to be fixed.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_00]: Skymore was fine, but he did fumble one of the one of the punt returns.
- 41:50[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't really cause any problems, but you know, he ended up averaging some just south of 10 yards per return on the punts, but it didn't ever feel like he was going to break one.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and then really just like my other thing would just be like the offense just needs to like we joked about the kickerless on the kickerless offense, but Really maybe that needs to be and until they get somebody they could trust back there Maybe that just needs to be the way that they they approach this like just be more aggressive and finish off drives I would agree like I think special teams.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's like Skymore was like I thought he was like he's the type of punt returner like seeing the guy who like
- 42:30[SPEAKER_01]: isn't going to take a fair cash and is going to try to get you those extra yards.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's good.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: You want that.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_01]: But like, he was maybe the only bright spot for all those social teams.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Thomas more so was fine.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: He was okay.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing spectacular.
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you could just special teams was the biggest place where you were like, wow, Seattle is so much better than them on this.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 42:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like, it was just like Seattle of Michael Dix and every punt like flip the field.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like every kick, no issue at all.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: Every return was like a lot of positive yards.
- 43:03[SPEAKER_01]: All the coverage was good.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: And then on the 49er side is just not like at all.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: And it's frustrating because it's not, it's the part of the gain that a good team should just have figured out.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like if you're a good football team, they should not be a problem with viewers.
- 43:28[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, they won, they have a week to improve it.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: I do, I think that like they're investing in it, so hopefully things will change.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: And then, yeah, like Red Zone, you gotta finish reports.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, and to be fair, I feel like when you lose George Kittle in, like, because obviously he made a pretty big difference from the first drive, right?
- 43:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like his presence and the fact that he caught the ball and scored the touchdown, but I think losing Kittle there is a pretty big miss in the red zone because he's such a, he has such a presence down there and they just don't have
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's just not a big, like big, big go up and get the ball kind of group.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so it forces, you know, Jake Tonga's aside apparently.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and so it kind of shrinks the the field a lot more even more than it is in the red zone.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: And so I wonder if that that probably plays into it a lot.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine that George Kale features pretty heavily in there.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: Their red zone passing offense, which will be a big miss, especially if he's going to be out for extended period of time.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't doubt that, but I also think like,
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: This team, so this is going to segue nicely into like my down right go for it like this team is for what they like blame to want to do and have been at like you just have to be you have to like operate better in the red zone and you have to like win and in particular the offensive line has to do much better.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: I think one of the biggest things that surprised me from this looking back at the game.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's the fact that Brock pretty was only sat once on a blitz because that was not the way of felt at the game at all.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: I felt like pretty was getting like manhandled and I think that like there is some truth to the fact that like he had to like his clock was sped up because of all the pressure.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I thought the Seahawks defensive line.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_01]: One
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: Basically, every snap, like the Niners had maybe a handful of plays where they really like sort of held up and it isn't like the usual.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know, Trent Williams was really good, but it was everyone else.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: No Trent was in very good in this game either.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was rough.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like in general, there was a lot of pressure and they weren't like dominated on blocks and like the Niners couldn't get like they got rushing yards.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: I suppose, but it took them a.
- 45:56[SPEAKER_01]: a lot of attempts and there were a lot of like third and second and two that became third and three is just because they could literally couldn't like get any push and that's a big deal right because that's that's sort of how teams win football games is on the defensive line like creating pressure.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: So if you can't like you have to be able to match that or you have to just like change up the way you're off into approaches and I think like with the
- 46:24[SPEAKER_01]: you, they just have to be better.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's that simple.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like I just think the offense, the offense of line was definitely the worst part of the offense.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think it struggles fed into party struggles.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: And I think those combined were bad enough to wear like the Niners were in a position where they might not win the game.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: So that's really the place I feel like is where they need to improve.
- 46:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and and really some of it, some of both those things, but the special teams, the coverage units and the offensive line stuff could just come down to the fact that
- 47:02[SPEAKER_00]: That offensive line didn't play together at all during the preseason, so it was mostly just training camp stuff, which It's feel like that's going to take some time and obviously you've been barred and done it.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: I'm an extremely both missed time and Trent practices when he wanted wants to break this point and it's great.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I imagine some of that will be like cohesion over time and the same thing like with the special teams unit like you're probably running a lot of guys out there.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: on special teams during the preseason that are not on this roster anymore.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so just figuring out like what the right mixture of guys wear and where the, you know, who needs to go wear and that sort of thing will probably take some time.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: I imagine.
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm holding out a little hope on that.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that's a slightly optimistic view, but I think that makes sense to me.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, it does, but like,
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, like it just doesn't seem like a new problem, I suppose.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, certainly, isn't so, like, I mean, I don't know.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think the biggest worry was the fact that Trent just didn't look very, like everyone else would say, okay, like whatever, but like Trent Williams, like, that's supposed to be like, like, payday, you know, money to the bank.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_01]: You don't even think about it.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's just like, yeah, Trent Williams is going to dominate, and he did not dominate.
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: looking out to the future that's probably the biggest concern I have is like, is this like going to be a week one thing or is this going to be like, oh, no, they're like, this is actually like a like a problem thing so I don't know well, that's what we could use for it to submit out what was what was real and what wasn't from week one something to track, I think for sure.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, um, actually as any final words on this, so we wrap this one up, I think we've said all we need to say about this this game.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I just want to sort of highlight something you mentioned sort of quickly, which is that, you know, Brock pretty is undefeated going up to Seattle, like there is something so incredibly beautiful for me, like a relatively younger fan who's main like rivalry growing up was with the Seattle sea hox that like beating Seattle in Seattle week one.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: is sort of like, oh yeah, they want a division game.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just like, I think it's fans, we should not take this for granted, right?
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is domination of a team that is not like, no fun, like, bad, dyslexiaital, big time.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_01]: And for them to be like, for this to just be like, yeah, they were, you know, they didn't play very well, but they went up to see I don't got a win.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: And just like that, just being like it, and not being like, oh my gosh, they want to see Addo.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_01]: If there's anything about the Kyle Shanahan era that like I think rings out to me beyond the obviously sort of the missed opportunities it's just that there's like a level of like dominance in the division for the most part that's just always there and like I just I love it right like yeah yeah it wasn't a great game that didn't play very well in a lot of ways they got a little lucky level of lies messy they also like doubled up Seattle and yards in my time of possession like.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: They were definitively the better team in every facet and like shot themselves into foot and still managed to win.
- 50:17[SPEAKER_01]: And that's like the still managed to win is the fun part, but the first part is like the, yeah, like, this is a good football team.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_01]: This has always been like truth the most part, right?
- 50:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're a talented football team and they're like a better football team than the Seattle Seahawks and that's super fun to say.
- 50:35[SPEAKER_01]: It was super fun to watch and hopefully that continues to ring true for the rest of the year.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I couldn't agree more.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_00]: They'll travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints to road games start the season.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, I've worked out well.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think the last time that they were that that start off to road games on the season, it worked out pretty well, so I'll take that for what it is.
- 50:58[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, well with that, those wise words, not the rambling things that I just said at the end there.
