- Lucas: Hey Luna, great to have you back for another episode of Learn Cantonese with Fexingo. Luna: Thanks Lucas, I'm really excited. Last time we grabbed some bread at the bakery, and I've been practicing those phrases all week. Lucas: Oh, that's so good. Now, today we're going to talk about things you see every day, right at home. Luna: At home? I could use some new words for my place. What are we starting with? Lucas: Let's start with a table. In Cantonese, a table is 一張檯. Luna: 一張檯. Table. Got it. 一張檯. Lucas: Perfect. And a chair is 一張椅. Luna: 一張椅. Chair. Easy. Lucas: Now a bed, something we all love, is 一張床. Luna: 一張床. Bed. I can definitely use that. Lucas: And a door, 一道門. Luna: 一道門. Door. Okay, I'm with you. Lucas: Great job. Now let's put them into a simple sentence. 'This is a table' in Cantonese is 呢張係檯. Luna: 呢張係檯. So 呢張 means 'this' and 係 means 'is'. Lucas: Exactly right. And another useful one: 'I have a chair' is 我有張椅. Luna: 我有張椅. I have a chair. That's handy. Lucas: Alright, let's practice these a few times. Repeat after me: 一張檯. Luna: 一張檯. Lucas: 一張椅. Luna: 一張椅. Lucas: 一張床. Luna: 一張床. Lucas: 一道門. Luna: 一道門. Lucas: Now the sentences: 呢張係檯. Luna: 呢張係檯. Lucas: 我有張椅. Luna: 我有張椅. Lucas: Excellent. You really nailed those. Now let's imagine you're showing a friend around your place. You point to your bed and say, 呢張係床. Luna: 呢張係床. This is a bed. That's a natural way to say it. Lucas: And if you want to talk about having something, like 'I have a door'? That would be 我有道門. Luna: 我有道門. I have a door. So we use 道 for doors? Lucas: Yes, 道 is the measure word for doors and windows. Good catch. Luna: So for tables, chairs, and beds we use 張, but for doors it's 道. That's a bit tricky. Lucas: It can be, but with practice it becomes natural. Let's do one more round. I'll say the English, you say the Cantonese. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Table. Luna: 一張檯. Lucas: Chair. Luna: 一張椅. Lucas: Bed. Luna: 一張床. Lucas: Door. Luna: 一道門. Lucas: This is a table. Luna: 呢張係檯. Lucas: I have a chair. Luna: 我有張椅. Lucas: You're doing awesome. And you know, if you're enjoying these lessons and you feel like they're worth something, you could support us. Luna: Yeah, that's a nice idea. It helps keep the show going without ads. Lucas: Right. Could you give us a little dialogue using these words? Lucas: Sure. Imagine you're at home and you say, 呢張係檯, and your friend asks, 你有冇椅? That's 'Do you have a chair?' Luna: 你有冇椅? So 有冇 means 'do you have'? Lucas: Yes, and you can answer, 我有張椅. I have a chair. Luna: 我有張椅. Perfect. And what about 'I have a bed'? Is it 我有張床? Lucas: Exactly, 我有張床. You're catching on. Luna: And 'I have a door' is 我有道門. Lucas: You got it. Great job. Let's review one more time. All the phrases we learned today. Luna: Okay: 一張檯, 一張椅, 一張床, 一道門, 呢張係檯, 我有張椅. Lucas: Perfect. You've done an amazing job today. Keep practicing, and next time we'll continue expanding your Cantonese. Luna: Sounds great. See you then.
