- 0:01Speaker 1: In this corner, standing at six foot five, weight class unknowns,
- 0:04Speaker 1: but hailing from the city of Sands.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Jamison will and in this
- 0:09Speaker 2: then in.
- 0:09Speaker 1: At five foot ten, weighing in at pounds and coming
- 0:14Speaker 1: to us from his super secret bunker with no ac
- 0:17Speaker 1: in Tucson, Arizona.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Put your hands together for Luis Montemao.
- 0:23Speaker 1: All right, thank you, welcoming back to another episode of
- 0:25Speaker 1: Miss Company podcast. Of course, on one half of the show,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm jameson I'm joined by our frequent traveling co host Louise.
- 0:34Speaker 1: What's going on? Man?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Oh, it's Jamison. I was gonna be back home and
- 0:39Speaker 2: on the mic, I just got back from a trip
- 0:42Speaker 2: to Chicago, and by it's a lot of fun, really
- 0:47Speaker 2: really different extremes, going from walking around in like thirty
- 0:50Speaker 2: five degrees thirty degrees with wind to coming back in
- 0:54Speaker 2: to Arizona and being just one hundred close still I'll
- 0:57Speaker 2: take it. Let's call it like ninety degrees here. So, uh,
- 1:00Speaker 2: it's a little wild, little culture shock. But man, Chicago's awesome.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I hadn't been there since I was like sixteen for
- 1:06Speaker 2: a school debate thing. Uh, so you know, didn't I
- 1:10Speaker 2: was but I wasn't. It didn't really count. Yeah, I
- 1:16Speaker 2: did a couple of little like debate programs. Is with
- 1:19Speaker 2: this program called oh god, what was the National Hispanic
- 1:22Speaker 2: Institute NHI. So it wasn't just debate, but it was
- 1:25Speaker 2: about like, uh, you know, different ways to like promote
- 1:27Speaker 2: the progress the culture, you know, like how do we
- 1:30Speaker 2: make the Hispanic culture you know, we're prosperous kind of
- 1:32Speaker 2: a thing. And uh so it was like that. So
- 1:35Speaker 2: I went to stay at DePaul University when I was
- 1:39Speaker 2: a kid at Chicago, and I did, like, yeah, speaking
- 1:43Speaker 2: in front of like probably like a couple of thousand kids,
- 1:46Speaker 2: which I didn't realize until I was older, Like people
- 1:48Speaker 2: can't just do that. So it's really cool that, you know,
- 1:50Speaker 2: I wasn't very I wasn't terrified as a child to
- 1:53Speaker 2: speak in front of a bunch of pop. Yeah, but
- 1:56Speaker 2: uh that was cool. But it's just it's it's not
- 1:58Speaker 2: the same, you know, now that I'm an adult getting
- 2:02Speaker 2: to roam around Chicago. I tried the skinny pizza and
- 2:05Speaker 2: the fat pizza. So I got to not to explore
- 2:10Speaker 2: Pillsen and Cicero with your areas in Chicago with a
- 2:14Speaker 2: lot of let's say Hispanic people. I don't know that
- 2:16Speaker 2: they're all Mexican, but yeah, we are really cool spots.
- 2:20Speaker 2: And uh yeah, just to really enjoy being able to
- 2:24Speaker 2: travel through trains whenever I go to big cities or
- 2:26Speaker 2: out of the country. It's something I miss when I
- 2:28Speaker 2: get back with Yeah, good time, really cool city. And
- 2:33Speaker 2: I'd be remiss for me to say there are people
- 2:36Speaker 2: that are like, oh my god, Chicago's so dangerous. You
- 2:39Speaker 2: can't walk around. You're gonna get murdered anytime you go outside. Bro.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I saw teenage girls walking downtown by themselves at night.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They're like middle schoolers on the train by themselves. Come on,
- 2:50Speaker 2: stop stop. I mean, of course, of course there's crime,
- 2:52Speaker 2: of course, like anywhere. But you're talking to me like,
- 2:55Speaker 2: you can't go outside, and you're not unless you get
- 2:58Speaker 2: stabbed or you know, get get shot at literal teenagers.
- 3:02Speaker 2: We're just walking around at night, so let's let's let's
- 3:05Speaker 2: all let's all relax, and you know, not talk about
- 3:08Speaker 2: Chicago like it's you know, Fallujah or something. My god,
- 3:12Speaker 2: but anyway, but no network.
- 3:16Speaker 1: I mean, it's like any of the major See, you're right,
- 3:18Speaker 1: you're gonna have as good parts and bad parts. It's
- 3:20Speaker 1: like anything else. A lot of times you mind your business,
- 3:22Speaker 1: you're gonna be hy.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Yeah, And you know, the older I get, the more
- 3:27Speaker 2: I travel, the more I realize. You see these stories
- 3:29Speaker 2: about tourists going somewhere and you know, ended up getting
- 3:32Speaker 2: hurt or even killed. Honestly, I think it's because a
- 3:35Speaker 2: lot of them show up doing stupid shit and just
- 3:38Speaker 2: kind of you know, like I said, don't mind, don't
- 3:40Speaker 2: mind their business. So you know, if you if you travel,
- 3:43Speaker 2: you go to some place, you know, just just be
- 3:46Speaker 2: be nice to feel be kind to your thing, don't
- 3:48Speaker 2: get into anything shady, don't bother people, and just you know,
- 3:52Speaker 2: go have fun and just mind your business. Right right, Yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 2: But that was that was the last. This week, we
- 4:00Speaker 2: are back on the microphone for the Mixed Company podcast
- 4:03Speaker 2: and we've got some boxing news to discuss. So let's
- 4:05Speaker 2: dive right into the biggest. I think the most prominent
- 4:09Speaker 2: thing that that sort of we've been talking about that
- 4:11Speaker 2: that has been going on is Top Rank Top Rank Boxing.
- 4:16Speaker 2: They have officially signed a deal with the Zone d
- 4:19Speaker 2: a z N. Some people call it Dazzen. It took
- 4:23Speaker 2: me a while to figure out that it was called
- 4:25Speaker 2: the Zone. I just called it jacs, but yeah, Top Rank.
- 4:29Speaker 2: After they left ESPN there were rumors about them getting
- 4:32Speaker 2: back together. Going back to the Top Rank was like,
- 4:36Speaker 2: we're there. We're exes for a reason. You know, I'm
- 4:39Speaker 2: not going to answer if she calls. It's not going
- 4:41Speaker 2: to be different this time. Let's try something out with
- 4:43Speaker 2: a new shinier promo streaming company. So I don't know.
- 4:49Speaker 2: I mean I after Top Rank left ESPN, they were
- 4:54Speaker 2: on TB for a while. I'll admit I will be hypocrite.
- 4:57Speaker 2: I poo pooed it right off the bat. I was like,
- 4:59Speaker 2: what is this ship? Why are they on? What are
- 5:02Speaker 2: these big boxing matches on two B? I came around,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I thought it was you know, I was like, all right,
- 5:07Speaker 2: thinking about it, it's free. Every smart TV help comes
- 5:10Speaker 2: with two B, and if we know that it's going
- 5:12Speaker 2: to be there, then it's pretty cool. With the Zone.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Have never really been super excited about it because it
- 5:18Speaker 2: is a more restrictive streaming platform. It is something you
- 5:22Speaker 2: have to access, download, an extra thing that you have
- 5:25Speaker 2: to get to if you want to watch fights. So
- 5:28Speaker 2: I got a bunch of thoughts on this, but I
- 5:29Speaker 2: just want to see where you stood on this, Jamison,
- 5:31Speaker 2: how do you feel about Top Rank officially being signed
- 5:34Speaker 2: under his owne for streaming?
- 5:36Speaker 1: So it's always good. It's always always good to know
- 5:43Speaker 1: where things are on, like I don't care, what's like
- 5:46Speaker 1: friends having a product and not knowing where to go
- 5:49Speaker 1: find it at Like location is everything. So having a
- 5:54Speaker 1: product but not having a location or outlet doesn't make
- 5:58Speaker 1: any sense of the products amazing that people can't find
- 6:00Speaker 1: it don't matter. So it's good to be able to
- 6:02Speaker 1: know where the fights are going to be at. That's
- 6:04Speaker 1: a huge thing. That's a huge plus. It's part of
- 6:06Speaker 1: the problem, so that's a good thing. Hopefully it is
- 6:09Speaker 1: a long term deal. Hopefully is not a you to
- 6:12Speaker 1: your situation. Hopefully it is a actual pathway to success
- 6:16Speaker 1: going forward. So we got to wait and see for that.
- 6:19Speaker 1: But for the most part, no issues at all. You know,
- 6:22Speaker 1: if you watch box, if you like fights, then you
- 6:25Speaker 1: know that's you're in the right spot. So I like that.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I have no issues with that at all.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, I've got a let's say, a small ish issue,
- 6:35Speaker 2: a little bit of an issue with this is that
- 6:37Speaker 2: you know, we are boxing fans, we know what fights
- 6:39Speaker 2: are coming up. We're in the know and we know
- 6:43Speaker 2: how to seek stuff out, especially now that we've already
- 6:46Speaker 2: seen fights on this own. You know, we've seen pay
- 6:48Speaker 2: per views. It's a well known named US. But form
- 6:51Speaker 2: are casual fan or somebody that you know is interested
- 6:53Speaker 2: in the fight just because they heard about it, or
- 6:55Speaker 2: they heard a friend to tell them about it, just
- 6:58Speaker 2: to go be able to go. So where to watch
- 7:00Speaker 2: it is not the same as it being on ESPN,
- 7:03Speaker 2: which was you know, on every any basic cable package
- 7:09Speaker 2: has it. My personal thing that I've always enjoyed doing
- 7:14Speaker 2: is going out to watch fights. Go into a sports bar.
- 7:16Speaker 2: I'm gonna grab a drink and find a place that's
- 7:18Speaker 2: playing the fight I want to watch.
- 7:20Speaker 1: Uh.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It was always really easy when Top Brank was on
- 7:22Speaker 2: ESPN because every sports bar had ESPN on at least
- 7:25Speaker 2: one TV right now, And even with two B, if
- 7:30Speaker 2: I go to a bar, they're not playing a match.
- 7:33Speaker 2: And if you know, bartender's cool, it's not too credit.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I can ask like, can I put this fight on?
- 7:37Speaker 2: If that's a smart TV that you got up there?
- 7:39Speaker 2: I know two B's on that ship, Like there's every
- 7:42Speaker 2: smart TV comes with to B. So again that made
- 7:45Speaker 2: it a little bit easy for the Zone, you know. Hell,
- 7:49Speaker 2: I don't know that the would like a Buffalo wild
- 7:52Speaker 2: Wings for example, have the Zone subscriptions. I don't know, Yes, yes, okay,
- 7:56Speaker 2: you do. You do know that you do you do
- 7:58Speaker 2: know that they.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Have that right, right?
- 8:01Speaker 2: Okay, Okay, that's that's cool. I'll that's not an issue.
- 8:06Speaker 2: But your local neighborhood spot, you know, local sports, where
- 8:09Speaker 2: your local dive. I've watched a lot of boxing matches
- 8:13Speaker 2: at places like that, and I don't know, I feel
- 8:15Speaker 2: like it's going to be harder to find something that's
- 8:17Speaker 2: on the Zone than it would be on ESPN. So
- 8:19Speaker 2: I guess that I'm a little just unsure about what
- 8:22Speaker 2: it's going to look like going forward. If you're somebody
- 8:24Speaker 2: that just watch watches boxing at home one hundred percent
- 8:26Speaker 2: of the time, your fight, you're solid. But there's some
- 8:29Speaker 2: of us that like the vibe of going out to
- 8:31Speaker 2: watch a fight. So I don't know, Well, what's the alternative?
- 8:35Speaker 2: Right If you're telling me the Zone is the best option,
- 8:38Speaker 2: then we're gonna roll with it. If you tell me
- 8:40Speaker 2: they turned it deal from Fox or CBS, hold of
- 8:43Speaker 2: our conversation.
- 8:43Speaker 1: But if that's the best they could get, then let's
- 8:45Speaker 1: just roll with it.
- 8:47Speaker 2: Well okay, so then the alternative was to be which
- 8:50Speaker 2: is easy to find for any boxing fan potential fan.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, they're not making as much money as
- 8:56Speaker 2: they would, but do we want more eyeballs on the sport?
- 8:59Speaker 1: Right?
- 9:00Speaker 2: Like it's of course with anything that's give and take,
- 9:02Speaker 2: its plus, it's pros and cons. But I compared to
- 9:07Speaker 2: how easy it is to get to be on any
- 9:09Speaker 2: smart TV, I mean, come on, you gotta, you gotta.
- 9:12Speaker 2: You're telling me that it's as easy to find a
- 9:14Speaker 2: fight on the zone for random you know, uh Sportsman
- 9:17Speaker 2: Bucks Evan.
- 9:20Speaker 1: If because they don't have other stuff too, right, they
- 9:23Speaker 1: have like UFC stuff and other stuff. So I mean
- 9:26Speaker 1: people people who want to know, they'll follow, they'll find it.
- 9:29Speaker 1: I just think whether it's two B Dezone or whatever,
- 9:32Speaker 1: the biggest issue is knowing where to find it. I
- 9:35Speaker 1: think that's the best thing because you can have the
- 9:37Speaker 1: best fights in the world if nobody's watching them and
- 9:39Speaker 1: it on me shit, So as long as we know
- 9:41Speaker 1: where they're going to be at, I think it's fine.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And I think the production is better on his zone too.
- 9:46Speaker 1: I think the productive overall production of a product or
- 9:49Speaker 1: an event is way better on the Zone than to
- 9:52Speaker 1: be in other places, So I don't I don't mind
- 9:53Speaker 1: that at all.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, and I'll I guess, I'll admit there are
- 9:57Speaker 2: other things on his own. I know this, like soccer,
- 9:59Speaker 2: but I don't know a lot else. I mean, the
- 10:02Speaker 2: only thing the reason I knew of that that that
- 10:04Speaker 2: existed was because of boxing. So I actually I believe
- 10:08Speaker 2: it's British. So I'm sure they have like rugby and
- 10:11Speaker 2: you know, lacrosse highlight. I don't know what kind of
- 10:15Speaker 2: ship they have on on the Zone. But but yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 2: I mean I shouldn't say that, you know, I should
- 10:22Speaker 2: give it some credit and not say that it's just
- 10:24Speaker 2: a boxing network. You know, it's got other than that.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think maybe like F one F one is on
- 10:29Speaker 2: design I believe the yep. Yeah, So maybe I'm being
- 10:34Speaker 2: a little down in the situation.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Uh.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Plus anecdotally speaking, you know, I there's a match that
- 10:40Speaker 2: we're gonna that's coming up this weekend we'll talk about
- 10:42Speaker 2: on the show versus Therm and I was actually under
- 10:46Speaker 2: the deppression was last weekend while I was in Chicago.
- 10:48Speaker 2: It's it's not it's it's coming up, right.
- 10:51Speaker 1: They have the ring stuff MGM, I think Tuesday, and
- 10:56Speaker 1: there's other stuff coming down this weekend.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, And I I just thought that I
- 11:01Speaker 2: wanted to watch it, so I thought I was gonna
- 11:02Speaker 2: have to start calling sports bars to see who the
- 11:04Speaker 2: hell was playing it in a new city. There is
- 11:05Speaker 2: always a pain in the ass. I've done that before
- 11:08Speaker 2: and it's I hate it, so you know, kind of
- 11:12Speaker 2: knowing there was a time, and of course it's It
- 11:15Speaker 2: doesn't mean that just because every fight you want to
- 11:17Speaker 2: watch was on ESPN. I'm not saying that. But if
- 11:20Speaker 2: you know there's a fight on top rank, like you know,
- 11:22Speaker 2: you're just gonna walk into any random sports bar in
- 11:24Speaker 2: any city and you're gonna be able to either find
- 11:26Speaker 2: a TV or a bartender who's cool will change the
- 11:29Speaker 2: channel for you. You know what I'm saying, right, And.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But also too, you gotta realize should be changing, man
- 11:36Speaker 1: should be changing. Like, at the end of the day,
- 11:39Speaker 1: here's the thing. We've been through HBO, we've been through
- 11:42Speaker 1: show Time, We've been through the PBC on the networks.
- 11:46Speaker 1: At the end of the day, we're used to adapting.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So it's just what it is. It's good problems and
- 11:51Speaker 1: if all else fails, if you're close to buffalo wild wings,
- 11:56Speaker 1: there's a great chance that they got to fight. It's
- 11:58Speaker 1: like a hands that they're showing said fight. So I
- 12:03Speaker 1: wouldn't trip too much about it.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Okay, okay, And you know, yeah, I don't want to
- 12:08Speaker 2: be the grampy that's like back in my day. You know,
- 12:10Speaker 2: I've just had a lot of you.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Know, technology ain't work tripping over you know how to
- 12:15Speaker 1: work apps and ship it ain't worth it ain't worth
- 12:17Speaker 1: the hassle over.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Okay, okay. If somebody is like, if you're traveling, here's
- 12:24Speaker 2: a there's a little tip for you. If you can
- 12:27Speaker 2: only end up in a Buffalo wild just watch a fight.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Here's a trick. Ask the bartenders where they go to
- 12:32Speaker 2: drink when they clock out, because you know, they're not
- 12:34Speaker 2: hanging out and having drinks a buffalo.
- 12:37Speaker 1: So that's interesting. It depends on the situation in the
- 12:40Speaker 1: city because some people depending on So if it's a
- 12:46Speaker 1: privately owned bar where it's not corporate, it's privately owned,
- 12:50Speaker 1: they have different rules than a corporate type of bar.
- 12:54Speaker 1: So I it's a probably owned bar, you know, it's
- 12:56Speaker 1: kind of all things go. Ye know, once you clock out,
- 12:59Speaker 1: you come across the bar, come across the bar, and
- 13:01Speaker 1: you sit down, you do your thing. And I've seen both.
- 13:04Speaker 1: That's why I'm saying this from experience, That's why I'm
- 13:07Speaker 1: referencing this. I've seen where hey bar taking off at eleven,
- 13:12Speaker 1: they've chown so three am drinking, gambling, doing what they do,
- 13:16Speaker 1: having a good time, basical getting free drinks for four hours.
- 13:18Speaker 1: I've seen that. But I've also seen a GGI Fridays
- 13:22Speaker 1: has strict rules on employee where you can't really drink
- 13:26Speaker 1: where you work at, but we go to the bar
- 13:28Speaker 1: five minutes way. So I've seen I've seen it both ways.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Yeah, no, it's same. I if you're looking for a
- 13:35Speaker 2: cool place to drink, you know, always figure out where
- 13:37Speaker 2: the locals are gonna hang out, like, drink with the
- 13:39Speaker 2: locals and ask them around that that'll get you to
- 13:41Speaker 2: the cool spots. Bus Yeah, you know, I just feel
- 13:45Speaker 2: that in a new city, if you're for a boxing fan,
- 13:48Speaker 2: especially with pay per view, you don't know who the
- 13:50Speaker 2: hell is going to be playing that stuff, and you
- 13:52Speaker 2: know whether they because because you've mentioned before, if a
- 13:56Speaker 2: bar is playing pay per view a paperview fight, it's
- 13:58Speaker 2: not just the price of the fight. There's like I
- 14:00Speaker 2: see stuff on top of that, right like this, it
- 14:01Speaker 2: costs more.
- 14:03Speaker 1: So it's tricky. Right, So with businesses, whenever they pay
- 14:07Speaker 1: pay per view, it's always a lot more than the
- 14:10Speaker 1: residential So if you and I ordered to fight, it's
- 14:13Speaker 1: like eighty bucks, fifty bucks, ninety bucks. That's it when
- 14:16Speaker 1: a business does. Because remember a lot of businesses charged
- 14:19Speaker 1: for entry or used to charge for entry back in
- 14:21Speaker 1: the day, So like Hooters out here, but buff while
- 14:25Speaker 1: we was never charged, but they would always be first come,
- 14:27Speaker 1: first serve, and you got to be there all day.
- 14:29Speaker 1: So that was always crazy. But a lot of bars
- 14:31Speaker 1: would charge entry to watch the fight because they have
- 14:34Speaker 1: time to make their money back. Because let's say if
- 14:37Speaker 1: it costs two grand just to order the fight, then yeah,
- 14:41Speaker 1: it's gonna be what it's gonna be.
- 14:43Speaker 2: They charged that much, like that two grand for a
- 14:46Speaker 2: bar more.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Because it's a corpse. So here's the thing. Imagine if
- 14:49Speaker 1: you had a restaurant with four hundred people that are
- 14:53Speaker 1: able to be there, so imagine how much food and
- 14:56Speaker 1: drink people are ordering for three hours for a fight. Night,
- 15:00Speaker 1: you're gonna make all that back and some but they figure, hey,
- 15:04Speaker 1: it's a corporate account. They know how many TVs you have,
- 15:07Speaker 1: they know how much space you have, so they all
- 15:09Speaker 1: it's a flat fee that they charge businesses because they're
- 15:13Speaker 1: thinking that you're showing it to more than four people.
- 15:16Speaker 1: They're thinking, well, shit, if you're gonna order the fight,
- 15:19Speaker 1: that means you're expecting to make this amount of money,
- 15:22Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera.
- 15:24Speaker 2: I guess it's really fair because if I go out
- 15:26Speaker 2: and if I'm going out for a fight, and no,
- 15:28Speaker 2: it's gonna be an expensive night. So I always prefer
- 15:30Speaker 2: to go out just because then having dinner and drinks.
- 15:34Speaker 2: I mean, they're paying eighty bucks for a fight at home,
- 15:36Speaker 2: but then yeah, I'm I'm putting out like one hundred
- 15:38Speaker 2: and fifty bucks and you know, food, drinks cover tip.
- 15:41Speaker 2: So so that's that's that's understandable. And I've been to
- 15:45Speaker 2: places where their fights and there's like easily like another
- 15:47Speaker 2: you know, I get forty fifty to sixty people, So
- 15:52Speaker 2: that does make sense. But also at the end of
- 15:54Speaker 2: the day, you're like, yeah, you can make all this
- 15:56Speaker 2: money back in the fight, but just because a bar
- 15:59Speaker 2: can make a lot of mone and he doesn't mean
- 16:00Speaker 2: they have to make a lot of money, just it's
- 16:03Speaker 2: crazy like something, he can have it off night, you
- 16:04Speaker 2: know what I'm saying. So, but that's the capitalist system
- 16:08Speaker 2: we live.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I feel like if you're talking to a corporate location
- 16:15Speaker 2: and you know that's a say, oh you have you
- 16:18Speaker 2: can see the hundred people. I don't know. Man, sometimes
- 16:21Speaker 2: it's cold and brady and people don't go out and
- 16:23Speaker 2: they don't have a lot of a lot of business
- 16:25Speaker 2: like that sucks.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Well, I mean, here's the thing. You got to realize
- 16:30Speaker 1: things have also changed too, because it's not the same.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I don't know much about UFC, so I can't speak
- 16:35Speaker 1: on that, but I do know when it comes to
- 16:39Speaker 1: you know, back in the day when we had like
- 16:42Speaker 1: big fight nights, if you had, I know, Direct TV
- 16:45Speaker 1: would always charge their corporate customers certain amount. But when
- 16:48Speaker 1: you think about you break it down, if you're able
- 16:51Speaker 1: to hold three hundred people or you know, let's say
- 16:54Speaker 1: you're able to put three hundred people in your establishment,
- 16:58Speaker 1: each person is pro probably going to order between forty
- 17:02Speaker 1: and fifty bucks worth of stuff on average. All right,
- 17:06Speaker 1: So by that alone, you're fine, like you're more and more,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and that's just people who are there and they're talking
- 17:13Speaker 1: about takeout, not talking about everything else. Like on average,
- 17:16Speaker 1: you got the run of people spending fifty bucks minimum.
- 17:19Speaker 1: You're doing all right, that's fair.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And then there are people that go out who don't
- 17:22Speaker 2: care about fight night and they're just there to have
- 17:24Speaker 2: a drinking dinner anyway.
- 17:25Speaker 1: So that's right.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Yeah, right, I got you, I got you. Yeah, And
- 17:28Speaker 2: I guess part of me, this whole episode so far,
- 17:32Speaker 2: part of me is just kind of being like, well,
- 17:35Speaker 2: I understand things change, I underthink understand things. You know,
- 17:38Speaker 2: technology changes, streaming is a whole thing. I just worry
- 17:40Speaker 2: about the small, locally owned kind of you know, neighborhood
- 17:44Speaker 2: sports bars, like are they going to be able to
- 17:46Speaker 2: keep up with all of this stuff? You know, I'm
- 17:48Speaker 2: not worried about Daan Buffalo Wild Wings, you know, you know,
- 17:50Speaker 2: paying the bills at all. I don't even I don't
- 17:52Speaker 2: care whether they stay open or closed. Honestly, I'm just
- 17:56Speaker 2: thinking about the small neighborhood places that I've been to
- 17:58Speaker 2: and I've watched fights at. Is gonna be harder for
- 18:00Speaker 2: them to to play a fight to get people to
- 18:03Speaker 2: come in. I don't know.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I mean there is there's a time where smart TV's
- 18:07Speaker 1: was cutting edge and when that was a new thing,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and people have adapted. Like I personally think they'll be
- 18:15Speaker 1: cool because there's oil to me events, it's not. It's
- 18:18Speaker 1: not like it's a one off. It's gonna be a constant
- 18:20Speaker 1: thing so over time, it's like anything else, like oh,
- 18:23Speaker 1: weeple want to watch all? I bet that's It's just
- 18:25Speaker 1: how it goes. This is how it goes.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I got you. Yeah, if I got to go to
- 18:30Speaker 2: my local dives and be like, look, I know you've
- 18:32Speaker 2: never heard of de Zot, but I promise you like
- 18:35Speaker 2: this is the thing now. This isn't like if you
- 18:37Speaker 2: want to play bossing, I know you used to be
- 18:39Speaker 2: able to, but now it's harder. Like listen, man, there's
- 18:42Speaker 2: like just old old drunk guy chugging whiskey outs and
- 18:47Speaker 2: be like who's own the bars is the seventies and
- 18:49Speaker 2: be like, oh fine, I guess whatever does does what.
- 18:53Speaker 2: I'm sure I'm gonna run into that. But if I
- 18:56Speaker 2: want to be a boxing ambassador for this podcast, I
- 18:59Speaker 2: need to do it for my town as well.
- 19:01Speaker 1: If they.
- 19:05Speaker 2: But yeah, so I mean I kind of see it.
- 19:08Speaker 2: It's it's I see pros and cons that I could
- 19:10Speaker 2: see it going either way.
- 19:12Speaker 1: At the end of the day.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Here's the thing, do you know you can Top rank
- 19:16Speaker 2: has gotten a lot of heat for you know, not
- 19:17Speaker 2: putting another fights. The ESPN thing was like, uh oh,
- 19:21Speaker 2: they weren't making enough of the good fights this or that.
- 19:24Speaker 2: You know, I'll I won't get into it, and that
- 19:26Speaker 2: that's a whole other conversation. I will give it credit
- 19:29Speaker 2: for being able to consistently find top rank fights pretty
- 19:33Speaker 2: much anywhere. Anytime I wanted to see top rank it
- 19:36Speaker 2: was really easy. And that's the biggest thing is for
- 19:40Speaker 2: me is access. You know, if as long as people
- 19:42Speaker 2: don't lose access, I'm cool. I'm cool too. So let's
- 19:48Speaker 2: see what happens, and let's see, you know, let's see
- 19:52Speaker 2: what happens after you know, ninety three ninety something, you
- 19:54Speaker 2: old Bob Aeron is no longer with top rank and
- 19:57Speaker 2: maybe honestly that's man.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Look I think so it's like everything else, right, box
- 20:05Speaker 1: has been ran by the same people for years foreverybody,
- 20:08Speaker 1: it seems, right, Bob Erman, Don King and all the
- 20:11Speaker 1: powers that be are still well, not Don Kanin anymore,
- 20:14Speaker 1: but the powers that be have been running boxing forever
- 20:16Speaker 1: up until recently with the guys from Saudi and you
- 20:19Speaker 1: know other people involved. Everything adapts, and I think right now,
- 20:23Speaker 1: when it comes to sports in general, everything's to the
- 20:26Speaker 1: highest dollars. So whoever has the opportunity to bring around
- 20:29Speaker 1: the most profitable situation win. So I think that the
- 20:33Speaker 1: days of HBO being on boxing for forty years, that's out.
- 20:37Speaker 1: We'll never see that again. They'll never be one company
- 20:40Speaker 1: that holds something for that long. It doesn't happen that.
- 20:42Speaker 1: We don't live in that kind of world no more.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I think we have to get used to extreme change
- 20:47Speaker 1: where the next year and a half might be on
- 20:49Speaker 1: his own, it might be on Paramount Plus. In two years,
- 20:53Speaker 1: it might be on ESPN Plus, in four it might
- 20:55Speaker 1: be in Amazon. Like there's so many things that go
- 20:58Speaker 1: on because there's always people looking for live content and
- 21:01Speaker 1: you never know who views what most valuable and most important,
- 21:05Speaker 1: so things are ever changing when it comes to boxing.
- 21:08Speaker 1: It also on't surprised me if some boxing on a
- 21:12Speaker 1: few networks not just one, Like if Top Rank has
- 21:15Speaker 1: a deal for their main fights for the Zone and
- 21:18Speaker 1: then it has Amazon for the next year fight, it
- 21:21Speaker 1: wouldn't spobbly that either. I think you're going to see
- 21:23Speaker 1: widespread fights all over the place eventually.
- 21:27Speaker 2: That's also a very good point. I guess I'm kind
- 21:30Speaker 2: of suffering from recency bias because Top Rank left ESPN.
- 21:33Speaker 2: They were on two B for like, god, what like
- 21:35Speaker 2: six months, eight months or something like that, But who's
- 21:37Speaker 2: to say how long? Yeah, it could be a year,
- 21:39Speaker 2: a couple year contract and where, oh where was Top
- 21:41Speaker 2: Rank before because they were on ESPN for a long time,
- 21:44Speaker 2: then they that contract and then they came back, right
- 21:47Speaker 2: where was Do you remember where Top Rank was before
- 21:49Speaker 2: ESPN the most recent time.
- 21:52Speaker 1: On ESPN forever?
- 21:56Speaker 2: Yeah, but I feel like there was yet. I could
- 21:58Speaker 2: be mistaken with somebody else, but I feel like there
- 22:00Speaker 2: was like a like a couple of years when they
- 22:02Speaker 2: were not under contract with ESPN. I guess I'll quote.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Me on that, but well, I remember flight Light Fights
- 22:08Speaker 1: has always been on ESPN, and that's been there forever
- 22:12Speaker 1: now in terms of table now because they've always had HBO, like, yeah,
- 22:18Speaker 1: it's always been a mixture when it's come to the
- 22:21Speaker 1: cable channels too, So I don't think it was any
- 22:24Speaker 1: off top I don't remember, but I don't think there
- 22:26Speaker 1: was another channel beside the ESPN.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, and I'm and here my brain is much
- 22:33Speaker 2: my brain has been has been must from all of
- 22:35Speaker 2: the old style of milort that I drank, so it
- 22:37Speaker 2: would hold me to this. But I might be getting
- 22:39Speaker 2: my my facts here confused. I think it was that
- 22:44Speaker 2: esp replaced Top Break with Friday night Fights, that they
- 22:47Speaker 2: were running something like that. I'm not entirely sure, but anyway, sorry,
- 22:52Speaker 2: that's that's neither here nor there. The point that I
- 22:54Speaker 2: was making is that you're right, we have to be
- 22:57Speaker 2: ready for changes in homes and you know, change things
- 23:00Speaker 2: jumping around. Plus, yeah, I compare it to just like
- 23:04Speaker 2: any studios. I was at the movies, you know, watching
- 23:07Speaker 2: that Ryan Gosling Space movie and you see MGM and
- 23:10Speaker 2: then it said and Amazon MGM production. I'm like, and
- 23:13Speaker 2: I knew that, but it's like MGM has been around
- 23:16Speaker 2: for you know, so before we were born for decades.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Whore we're born. Now it's like Amazon is in the mix.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Shit like that is happening left and right, and everybody's
- 23:24Speaker 2: buying up everybody else. So like I guess at the
- 23:26Speaker 2: end of the day, it's hard to even tell it's
- 23:29Speaker 2: it's good. It's like Russian dolls with like who who's
- 23:32Speaker 2: streaming on one and known by whom kind of a thing,
- 23:35Speaker 2: And that's the thing too. It's it could get hard
- 23:38Speaker 2: for for a newbie getting into boxing because you've got
- 23:41Speaker 2: promotion companies versus streaming companies. So Top Rank and Golden
- 23:45Speaker 2: Boy are signed with his own, which is not a
- 23:47Speaker 2: boxing company, you know what I mean?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, I agree, I agree. But it was
- 23:54Speaker 1: gonna be interesting going forward because there's a lot like
- 23:56Speaker 1: right now we have way more young fighters that are
- 24:00Speaker 1: eager to fight than ever before. It feels like we
- 24:02Speaker 1: don't have anyone that's like on a long hiatus. Everyone
- 24:07Speaker 1: that's active is active, Like, we don't have anyone that's like,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I'm not fighting right now. We don't have a lot
- 24:14Speaker 1: of that. We have a lot of people who are
- 24:15Speaker 1: actively fighting, which is really cool. I don't see a
- 24:18Speaker 1: lot of stagnation when it comes to these guys. So
- 24:21Speaker 1: there's gonna be a need for having different outlets train
- 24:25Speaker 1: for fights, show fights, show market fights. I think as
- 24:29Speaker 1: time goes on, as long as there is good fights,
- 24:33Speaker 1: as long as we have good fights and good matches
- 24:34Speaker 1: and rematches all that stuff. It sets up the next
- 24:37Speaker 1: deal and the next deal. If you have quality product,
- 24:41Speaker 1: people will want to see that. The problem with boxing
- 24:43Speaker 1: has been we're going back and forth to this. A
- 24:47Speaker 1: lot of the products been bullshit because it has been
- 24:48Speaker 1: based off boxing. It's been built off other stuff, not
- 24:51Speaker 1: the actual product itself. That's why when we see Terrence
- 24:54Speaker 1: Crawford fight extremely well in the main events like a surprise,
- 24:58Speaker 1: because a lot of main events we're not used seen
- 25:00Speaker 1: good fights. We see big names, we see flashes, we
- 25:03Speaker 1: don't see great execution. So seeing that in the main
- 25:07Speaker 1: event is promising because that's been a rare over last
- 25:11Speaker 1: decade plus in some cases. So seeing more of that,
- 25:14Speaker 1: seeing your career take taking care of business a couple
- 25:17Speaker 1: of months ago was a good thing for the sport.
- 25:19Speaker 1: You need your names to play well and perform well
- 25:23Speaker 1: when it counts, and you get more and more of that,
- 25:25Speaker 1: there'll be a higher demand. And when there's a higher demand,
- 25:28Speaker 1: you'll get Amazon, you'll get Apple TV, you'll get ESPN plus,
- 25:31Speaker 1: they'll all come to the table. We want to put
- 25:33Speaker 1: the product on because they'll be a demand for it.
- 25:36Speaker 1: But We've had so many main events in the past
- 25:38Speaker 1: where it's like, all right, this person's past their prime,
- 25:41Speaker 1: they're not fight really, well, what are we doing? What
- 25:44Speaker 1: are we doing? Or the one thing I can't stand
- 25:46Speaker 1: after every fight that doesn't go people's way, I never
- 25:50Speaker 1: watching boxing again, and it's like, no, no, no, that's
- 25:53Speaker 1: not how it works. But we can't. We haven't had
- 25:56Speaker 1: that in a minute. So I'm glad we haven't had
- 25:58Speaker 1: those kinds of fights in a while. But there's a
- 26:00Speaker 1: while where that was the never any comment after every
- 26:04Speaker 1: big fight was boxing. Is this boxing that I don't
- 26:08Speaker 1: like it? Blah blah blah. No not, we haven't heard
- 26:10Speaker 1: that in a minute.
- 26:12Speaker 2: That's right, Yeah, And I think it's it's a little
- 26:14Speaker 2: bit of both sides, you know. Yeah, but the producasts
- 26:16Speaker 2: have been great, but also fans just kind of poopoo
- 26:18Speaker 2: it too much. And I've done after boxing fans on
- 26:21Speaker 2: the show many times. I think that they I it's
- 26:26Speaker 2: I think fans don't appreciate I guess it's with anything.
- 26:29Speaker 2: I'll start over, and I'll say this with anything with boxing,
- 26:31Speaker 2: with Star Wars, the worst part of all the things
- 26:33Speaker 2: I love is the fans to be quite honest with you,
- 26:36Speaker 2: but they just kind of like they say they like it,
- 26:38Speaker 2: but you know, they seem to only complain about it.
- 26:40Speaker 2: And I'm not saying that i'mbout all fans, of course,
- 26:44Speaker 2: you know, I'm not putting that on everybody, but there
- 26:46Speaker 2: are some people that I'm like, do you even enjoy
- 26:48Speaker 2: the thing that you say you're a fan of, because
- 26:51Speaker 2: all I hear is complaints.
- 26:53Speaker 1: It's conditional. I think it's conditional. I think what happens
- 26:57Speaker 1: is people won. People will like only when their fighter wins,
- 27:02Speaker 1: and they can't appreciate the fight itself or the event itself.
- 27:06Speaker 1: They're only key done on their actual boxer. That's the
- 27:09Speaker 1: first thing. Secondly, and most importantly, when it comes to
- 27:15Speaker 1: boxing itself, if you don't a lot of people don't
- 27:18Speaker 1: know what they're watching. I'll put it that way. If
- 27:20Speaker 1: it's not like a clear knockout or it's not a brawl,
- 27:23Speaker 1: a lot of people don't understand what they're watching. And
- 27:25Speaker 1: that's unfortunate because the sweet science of boxing is amazing.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Seeing someone dominate without having to you know, chaos someone
- 27:33Speaker 1: is amazing to see. Seeing someone being neutralized in the
- 27:36Speaker 1: third round, And I have anything else to do is
- 27:39Speaker 1: amazing to watch live, and a lot of people don't.
- 27:42Speaker 1: The common person doesn't understand that. I can't explain that
- 27:44Speaker 1: to them. Either you get it or you don't.
- 27:47Speaker 2: No, I agree with you, and you know that's I
- 27:51Speaker 2: love a big brawl in a bunch of knockouts as
- 27:53Speaker 2: much as anybody. I'm not trying to say that, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 2: I don't. Of course, it's exciting as hell, but yeah,
- 27:59Speaker 2: I mean that's kind of what I've always said about
- 28:02Speaker 2: when I first watched Steve. Of course Stevenson fight is
- 28:05Speaker 2: I can't remember who he was during the rona because
- 28:07Speaker 2: there were no audience, but he didn't knock the guy out,
- 28:11Speaker 2: but he just very clear every single round dominated dominated
- 28:15Speaker 2: the opponent. There just had nothing to respond to this
- 28:18Speaker 2: kid with. And that's what I was like, Okay, this
- 28:22Speaker 2: there's something special about this kid. Let's see where it goes.
- 28:26Speaker 2: But you know this, then what happened. He spent years
- 28:28Speaker 2: and years being called boring. He runs away, he blah
- 28:31Speaker 2: blah blah, you know this and that, and just getting
- 28:35Speaker 2: you know, never being given his credit in my opinion,
- 28:38Speaker 2: But no, I mean I think that, yeah, we're in
- 28:42Speaker 2: a good position as long as people keep fighting and
- 28:45Speaker 2: you know, not getting into shenanigans or you know, bullshit
- 28:48Speaker 2: about whether the fight is gonna be made or not.
- 28:51Speaker 2: We're going back and forth. You know, we're gonna have
- 28:53Speaker 2: some good fights and we're gonna have hopefully new fans.
- 28:57Speaker 2: Which is a great segue because there is there are
- 29:00Speaker 2: two guys that have been going back and forth and uh,
- 29:03Speaker 2: bullshitting about whether the fight is or not is going
- 29:05Speaker 2: to happen. We talked about the possibility of Ryan Garcia
- 29:08Speaker 2: fighting Shaque Stevenson. It turns out that Chaquur has been
- 29:12Speaker 2: complaining about the differences in the way and I'll put
- 29:15Speaker 2: this one on Chaquur, So don't they but or not
- 29:18Speaker 2: to act like I can't. I can't criticize my guys
- 29:20Speaker 2: in my favorite fighters. Because co Chakorza was at one
- 29:24Speaker 2: forty against tel Femo and he went up for that fight.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Ryan's at one seven, and so Shakur started saying, well,
- 29:31Speaker 2: Ryan needs to meet me and not be a way bully,
- 29:34Speaker 2: and I'm like, but that's his weight class, bro, Like
- 29:36Speaker 2: what do you what do you want? Like you can't
- 29:39Speaker 2: you can't expect him to come back down. And then
- 29:40Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia is saying, well, you need to come up
- 29:42Speaker 2: to me. But if that's the case, and neither were
- 29:45Speaker 2: gonna budge, and that just means you don't fight because
- 29:47Speaker 2: you're a different weight classes. They exist for a reason.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Stop pitching, you know, just don't don't then then don't
- 29:52Speaker 2: make the fight. Don't say that you want to make
- 29:53Speaker 2: the fight. If that's just if there's that much of
- 29:57Speaker 2: a difference between y'all, like, I'm sorry, you can't not
- 30:00Speaker 2: everybody could be Bud Crawford and go up through weight
- 30:02Speaker 2: classes to fight a dude, to dominate and fight.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Well, yeah, but also here's the thing, how bad do
- 30:07Speaker 1: you want it? But at the end of the day,
- 30:09Speaker 1: how bad do you want it? And if you want
- 30:11Speaker 1: it bad enough, you'll make the adjustments, go get it.
- 30:13Speaker 1: That's how I look at it, right, Like you camplain
- 30:15Speaker 1: all you want, planning ain't gonna do it, ain't gonna
- 30:18Speaker 1: help the situation. If you want it bad enough, you
- 30:20Speaker 1: make the concessions, you make work straight like that, we
- 30:23Speaker 1: ain't got none to talk about. Like, I get it,
- 30:25Speaker 1: I get where's coming from. If he's one forty he's
- 30:28Speaker 1: fighting a guy at one forty seven, I get it.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I also think that. I also think that when you
- 30:37Speaker 1: want something you're that damn good and you have confidence
- 30:39Speaker 1: in yourself, it doesn't matter. Like I think Chakor is
- 30:43Speaker 1: a much better fighter, I don't think weight will matter
- 30:46Speaker 1: much if they do fight. I get the concerns because
- 30:49Speaker 1: obviously your core has a brand and a reputation to protect.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So I get that. I understand. But if you're better
- 30:56Speaker 1: than someone and you feel that you're the best in
- 30:58Speaker 1: the sport, as he's basically been saying last several months
- 31:02Speaker 1: since Budd retired, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I mean, we've seen the other fighters go up or
- 31:08Speaker 1: fight someone a little bit, you know, bigger than them
- 31:10Speaker 1: or heavier than them, and this is one of those
- 31:12Speaker 1: things where you do what you gotta do, and if
- 31:15Speaker 1: you don't want to do that, then find someone else
- 31:17Speaker 1: to fight. But we're not gonna go back and forth
- 31:19Speaker 1: on this. We're not gonna be talking about this for
- 31:21Speaker 1: several months. Either make the fight or don't. But we're
- 31:23Speaker 1: not about to harp on this every day. Were not
- 31:26Speaker 1: because if you really, if you really say what you are,
- 31:28Speaker 1: you're really about that life to make a shake.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Well, and in the sense I agree with you saying
- 31:34Speaker 2: that you know, if you're if you really want it,
- 31:36Speaker 2: you want to you want to show that you're the
- 31:37Speaker 2: best as you say that you are. And yeah, I
- 31:39Speaker 2: think Chakorda is the better fighter. But at the same time,
- 31:42Speaker 2: weight class isn't the thing you can just ignore completely.
- 31:45Speaker 2: I mean the term that the metaphor you're fighting above
- 31:48Speaker 2: your or the saying you're fighting above your weight class
- 31:51Speaker 2: or punching up above your weight class was creative for
- 31:53Speaker 2: a reason, you know what I mean. It's like and
- 31:57Speaker 2: how I have no idea how how hard it is
- 32:01Speaker 2: for little guys to to boke up you know, another
- 32:03Speaker 2: five pounds that are I guess chikority moved up. It
- 32:06Speaker 2: just might not be feasible for someone that's just naturally
- 32:08Speaker 2: a shorter little guy. I don't know, but I think
- 32:12Speaker 2: I think it's don't don't yeah, don't even open the door.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Don't even open the conversation if you really can't make
- 32:17Speaker 2: the weight class one way or another. And the term weightfully, like,
- 32:21Speaker 2: I've never really liked that term because it's like, yeah,
- 32:24Speaker 2: people just way more. People just like have more muscle,
- 32:27Speaker 2: people are taller, you know, people just carry around more weight.
- 32:30Speaker 2: That's just how it is. And don't fight somebody if
- 32:33Speaker 2: you if you just can't roll with it. You know
- 32:36Speaker 2: what I'm saying. It's not a bully, that's a goddamn
- 32:39Speaker 2: they're not bullying. They're just fighting at there, at the
- 32:41Speaker 2: weight that they're at.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Now, here's the thing. What's the situation with the hydration clause? Right?
- 32:45Speaker 1: So if someone's naturally at one forty seven and there's
- 32:49Speaker 1: like no limit on how big they could be at
- 32:51Speaker 1: the fight night, then I like, I get some concerns there.
- 32:56Speaker 1: You know, I understand that part. But I don't think
- 33:03Speaker 1: Ryan Garcia being the bigger fighter necessarily helps Ryan Garcia.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Ryan Garcia is at his best when he's athletic and active,
- 33:13Speaker 1: not being just a bigger guy. When he's active, when
- 33:16Speaker 1: he's focused, I think that's Ryan's at his best. I
- 33:19Speaker 1: think Shaquor is really good at just who he is.
- 33:23Speaker 1: Like he can be the lighter guy. He's very active,
- 33:26Speaker 1: he's very fast, doesn't get hit. So to me, it's like, hey, man,
- 33:30Speaker 1: do it or don't. But we're not again, we're not
- 33:32Speaker 1: about be arguing about this. We're not like if you
- 33:35Speaker 1: want to find me at different time, that's fine, someone
- 33:37Speaker 1: else is gonna fight him. But at the end of
- 33:39Speaker 1: the day, make the fights. So we can't have we
- 33:42Speaker 1: can't have a whole lot of excuse. Now you're saying
- 33:43Speaker 1: Ryan's one fifty four, totally different conversation than No, I
- 33:46Speaker 1: wouldn't know. That's that's too much. But seven, that's the
- 33:51Speaker 1: natural next step up. Anyway, what are we doing? What
- 33:55Speaker 1: we're doing?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Well, yeah, yes it is naturally, But I guess what
- 33:57Speaker 2: I'm getting at is that not everybody can put on
- 34:00Speaker 2: weight and move as well. You know Shakur, yes he's
- 34:02Speaker 2: athletic at East Fast, but you never know what you know,
- 34:06Speaker 2: a few pounds can can do to some Actually you
- 34:07Speaker 2: say that we we do know. We've seen it. We've
- 34:09Speaker 2: seen people that go up just to the next natural
- 34:12Speaker 2: weight class and they just can't can't rock with it
- 34:13Speaker 2: because maybe they push themselves too far. I don't know.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I mean, I might be a little too again, poo
- 34:20Speaker 2: pooing the potential that shuck course teams and could have
- 34:23Speaker 2: put on seven pounds and still dominate. I don't know,
- 34:26Speaker 2: but yeah, I mean also also, I am only speaking
- 34:30Speaker 2: as a fat guy who doesn't know how hard it
- 34:32Speaker 2: is to lose, who knows how hard it is to
- 34:33Speaker 2: lose seven pounds and knows how easy it is to
- 34:36Speaker 2: get seven pounds is the wrong way?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Just what.
- 34:40Speaker 2: One long weekend in the Windy City eating a shits
- 34:42Speaker 2: out of pizza and boom, that's it. I'm ready to
- 34:45Speaker 2: increase weight classes like that, but yeah, to actually woke
- 34:50Speaker 2: up and make it and then where the weight Well,
- 34:52Speaker 2: what I said about Budd Crawford is that the reason
- 34:55Speaker 2: I expected him to win against Canelo is that I
- 34:57Speaker 2: thought he had the ability to move well, wear the
- 35:02Speaker 2: way well, and move well in the ring after going
- 35:05Speaker 2: up those weight classes, and he very clearly did. That's
- 35:08Speaker 2: not a guarantee for anybody, even for one weight class, right.
- 35:13Speaker 1: True, very true.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah, So I don't know there was body.
- 35:16Speaker 1: But here's the thing that we've seen the great make adjustment,
- 35:19Speaker 1: make it happen.
- 35:20Speaker 2: That's the thing.
- 35:20Speaker 1: If you're telling me you want to be an all
- 35:22Speaker 1: time great, you make that shit happen, right, that's the thing.
- 35:25Speaker 1: And I sure is not some random guy. He says
- 35:28Speaker 1: to himself he's the best and he wants to be
- 35:30Speaker 1: mentioned with all the best. Hell, his mentor, andre Ward,
- 35:34Speaker 1: has taken you know, going up in weight class to
- 35:37Speaker 1: fight guys. So I don't really trying to hear this.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I really try to hear it. I I'm sorry, I'm
- 35:42Speaker 1: not trying to hear it.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and I'm with you. Like I said, I came
- 35:45Speaker 2: in this very much saying don't don't do that shit,
- 35:47Speaker 2: you know, just make the fighter, don't. So I've criticized
- 35:51Speaker 2: Ryan Garcia, critiqued Ryan Garcia, but I on this part
- 35:56Speaker 2: of Mike scot Yeah, if you're if you're gonna talk big,
- 36:00Speaker 2: gre it out, man, how about this. How about you
- 36:02Speaker 2: take some time, you get really really big, you put
- 36:04Speaker 2: on some muscle, you eat a bunch of proteins, see
- 36:05Speaker 2: how it feels to be at one forty seven, and
- 36:07Speaker 2: then decide if you're going to make the fight or not,
- 36:11Speaker 2: instead of just going back and forth and you know,
- 36:13Speaker 2: complaining about how Ryan is too big and then just
- 36:16Speaker 2: don't do it. Then that's that. Then you don't do it,
- 36:19Speaker 2: or you do it and you fail and you go
- 36:20Speaker 2: back down, which just happened everybody. Canello went up to
- 36:23Speaker 2: light heavyweight to fight Peovil, and he never touched that
- 36:28Speaker 2: shit again. He never likes that weight class was persona
- 36:33Speaker 2: down granda to him, which I understand, you know, but
- 36:38Speaker 2: it's it happens. It happens to the best of the fighters.
- 36:40Speaker 2: You know, you can't even one weight class doesn't mean
- 36:42Speaker 2: that you're going to be able to dominate in that one. Now,
- 36:45Speaker 2: not everyone is Roy Jones Junior.
- 36:48Speaker 1: But at the end of the true.
- 36:52Speaker 2: But at the end of the day, yeah, I oh,
- 36:54Speaker 2: go ahead, go I sorry ahead, go ahead. No. I
- 36:58Speaker 2: was just gonna say at the end of it, like,
- 37:00Speaker 2: I don't want to hear more bickering between them, especially
- 37:02Speaker 2: since we've been talking about how Ryan Garcia a lot
- 37:04Speaker 2: of his stuff is uh shenanigans on social media, him
- 37:08Speaker 2: just talking ship all the same weird stuf blah blah blah,
- 37:11Speaker 2: like leave that behind. Stop. Don't you just had an
- 37:15Speaker 2: amazing performance against Mario Badrios like you are poised to
- 37:19Speaker 2: People want to see the next fight and see what
- 37:20Speaker 2: you look like. Don't get back into what did he
- 37:24Speaker 2: just did he say like that that he the budget goes.
- 37:28Speaker 2: What was it he said about Bud that either he
- 37:30Speaker 2: should come out of retirement to fight him, maybe wants
- 37:32Speaker 2: to show he's the best or that, and then he
- 37:34Speaker 2: he deleted the tweet. All that stuff. I hate all
- 37:37Speaker 2: that stuff, because I just care about what happens in
- 37:39Speaker 2: the ring.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You know. Also, you're gonna say something, stand behind it.
- 37:43Speaker 1: If you're gonna go out, if you're any come out
- 37:45Speaker 1: the gate like that, chess out and stand behind it.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Don't that part, don't say something, and yeah, I don't
- 37:51Speaker 1: do all that. You're gonna say something, stay with your chess.
- 37:54Speaker 2: That part, that part if you're and if you're gonna
- 37:56Speaker 2: delete something off off of Twitter because it was offensive
- 37:59Speaker 2: that apology because he called somebody something you were supposed
- 38:02Speaker 2: to be like bye bad by bad Holy shit. You know,
- 38:04Speaker 2: I didn't know that was offensive.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 38:07Speaker 2: But yeah, if he's gone up, But you know, I
- 38:10Speaker 2: think it's tough, it's a waste of time because but
- 38:12Speaker 2: it's very made it very clear that he is retired
- 38:16Speaker 2: and what wouldn't come back for the money. He did
- 38:18Speaker 2: a podcast where he said.
- 38:19Speaker 1: You're getting in abundantly clear. He has told everyone that hey,
- 38:23Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not coming back. I've made my money.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Now that being said, I know he said he doesn't
- 38:30Speaker 1: have a price as a man, I respect his principles. However,
- 38:34Speaker 1: if someone offers him one hundred and fifty million, he
- 38:37Speaker 1: at least got have a conversation about it. Like if
- 38:39Speaker 1: somebody says you got one hundred and fifty million guaranteed.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I'm not saying he'd come back, but I definitely think
- 38:44Speaker 1: you gotta the group. Chet, got to hit up, you
- 38:47Speaker 1: gotta talk to you, gotta call somebody, because that's just
- 38:49Speaker 1: a lot of money just to you know, Like also,
- 38:52Speaker 1: you're never gonna get that money again. That's you know,
- 38:54Speaker 1: that's never gonna be a thing. So somebody's offering you
- 38:57Speaker 1: that now, you definitely got to consider it. Even though
- 38:59Speaker 1: you said this to that and the third one hundred million,
- 39:03Speaker 1: undred fifty million man, and there's a whole place to
- 39:04Speaker 1: get that at this stage of game.
- 39:07Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, I agree with you, and you know, I
- 39:10Speaker 2: respect what he said that he doesn't have a price
- 39:12Speaker 2: to come back. If there is a number out there
- 39:14Speaker 2: that make him change his mind, I wouldn't even you know,
- 39:16Speaker 2: shit on him and say like, oh you're you lied,
- 39:19Speaker 2: you're a hypocrite ball. But no, no, no, good for him,
- 39:20Speaker 2: get the back. But I'm talking about the other fighters
- 39:23Speaker 2: that are like, well, I could beat Bud if he
- 39:25Speaker 2: came out of retirement. Bro shut up, like tell female
- 39:27Speaker 2: calling up, shut up? I don't want to hear it. Yeah,
- 39:30Speaker 2: you're talking talk about the guys that you are going
- 39:34Speaker 2: to fight in at your next fight, at your weight class.
- 39:36Speaker 2: We're unretired, Like stop wasting time. Yeah, you know you
- 39:40Speaker 2: forget about the switter fingers. Like same thing. If Ryan
- 39:44Speaker 2: Garcia is like, oh shit, course too scared to fight me,
- 39:48Speaker 2: you know, blah blah blah, Okay, cool, leave it at that.
- 39:51Speaker 2: Who are you gonna fight next instead? Ryan, Yeah, give
- 39:55Speaker 2: us another name, send out another contract, you know, call
- 39:58Speaker 2: out somebody else. Don't just beat going back and forth
- 40:00Speaker 2: with this. It's honestly, it's it's boring man to me,
- 40:04Speaker 2: like as the guy who gets most excited about when
- 40:07Speaker 2: the bell rings, all this back and forth is boring.
- 40:09Speaker 2: It's not productive.
- 40:11Speaker 1: It's part of the game, though, Like you got to
- 40:13Speaker 1: realize it's part of as part of the sport. It's
- 40:16Speaker 1: part of it is part of it, and unfortunately we
- 40:19Speaker 1: got to deal with it. So all that being said,
- 40:21Speaker 1: don't take it, don't don't let it get you like that.
- 40:24Speaker 1: But with all that being said, these guys are eventually
- 40:27Speaker 1: gonna fight. The reason why is because the money's out there.
- 40:30Speaker 1: The money is good. Right now, we don't know how long.
- 40:32Speaker 1: We don't know what everything going on right now. No
- 40:34Speaker 1: one knows how the Moody's going to be in the future.
- 40:37Speaker 1: So if you have a good offer right now, you
- 40:39Speaker 1: kind of have to take it because no one knows
- 40:41Speaker 1: what the hell's going on with everything going on right now.
- 40:44Speaker 1: So I think you're gonna see a lot more fights
- 40:46Speaker 1: being made while things are hot, When the money is
- 40:49Speaker 1: there and people are trying to make things shake, that's
- 40:52Speaker 1: when we get announcement. So I think we're gonna see
- 40:55Speaker 1: a couple of announcement made probably before summer for fights
- 40:58Speaker 1: in the fall.
- 41:00Speaker 2: Okay, No, and I am excited too, Yeah, I'm not.
- 41:02Speaker 2: I'm not trying to be down on the sport overall.
- 41:03Speaker 2: It's just like it's it's also too kind of what
- 41:07Speaker 2: you said about this is the time to make We're
- 41:09Speaker 2: in a good position to make a lot of great fights,
- 41:12Speaker 2: put a lot of names out there, get new fans, like,
- 41:15Speaker 2: don't mess it up by wasting time being like well,
- 41:17Speaker 2: if but On retires like you know, so yeah, let's uh,
- 41:22Speaker 2: let's let's focus on the future of what the sport
- 41:25Speaker 2: could really be and you know, maybe not bring it
- 41:28Speaker 2: back to his glory days. But but yeah, you know,
- 41:32Speaker 2: and something that we also got to remember is that
- 41:34Speaker 2: this show started based on a prediction between Canelo and
- 41:37Speaker 2: Crawford that eventually became true. Right, Like, this is something
- 41:41Speaker 2: that that you know, we we want to we we
- 41:45Speaker 2: we want to talk about dream matchups that actually could happen,
- 41:48Speaker 2: and we want to see them happen. So and yeah,
- 41:50Speaker 2: the the back and forth too, the differences that Canelo
- 41:54Speaker 2: and Crawford, they were like, you know, sniping at each other.
- 41:57Speaker 2: It was just like, hey, if you want to do it,
- 41:59Speaker 2: let's do it. You know, let's figure it out. And
- 42:00Speaker 2: if you give me a contract, good so uh just
- 42:05Speaker 2: put put it put in the word again his more
- 42:07Speaker 2: fight stanment. We don't want these names going out of
- 42:09Speaker 2: uh going out of favor. And then people like forgetting that,
- 42:12Speaker 2: you know, who this big class is because especially with
- 42:17Speaker 2: with Shakur being like there's a lot of people that
- 42:20Speaker 2: have avoided him, but his performance, he should be the
- 42:23Speaker 2: guy to beat. There should be people lighting up to
- 42:24Speaker 2: say I can get his ass, I could take him down.
- 42:27Speaker 2: He's not, you know what I mean.
- 42:29Speaker 1: That's how it usually is like whenever there's someone on
- 42:31Speaker 1: top of the hill, that's how normally is. It just
- 42:33Speaker 1: sucks because we it feels like boxers are it feels
- 42:39Speaker 1: like there's not a whole lot of frism anymore with guys.
- 42:42Speaker 1: If guys are way too chill for my liking, okay,
- 42:45Speaker 1: way too like there's no one outside of Roll, you know,
- 42:49Speaker 1: gonna talk. You know, we talk to his talk and
- 42:51Speaker 1: I appreciate that, but it does feel like guys are
- 42:53Speaker 1: way too chill, like no one's out there actually trying
- 42:56Speaker 1: to be like, you know what, but good or not?
- 42:58Speaker 1: Budd sorry, good, I'm better. I'm better, Like, let's figure out,
- 43:02Speaker 1: but I'm better. We don't have that no more. So
- 43:04Speaker 1: like a while ago, ten, fifteen years ago, and twenty
- 43:07Speaker 1: years ago, we had more of that even if guys weren't,
- 43:09Speaker 1: we had a lot more of that. But I don't know.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I think a big reason why is guys are getting
- 43:14Speaker 1: paid a lot of money, and guys are content. And
- 43:17Speaker 1: it's a good and bad thing, right because, yes, you
- 43:20Speaker 1: want boxers fairly compensated for their skill set and their
- 43:23Speaker 1: their work, so that's a good thing. However, when you
- 43:27Speaker 1: get paid very well, you get content and you're like,
- 43:30Speaker 1: you know what, instead of having to fight three times
- 43:33Speaker 1: in a thirteen more or fifteen month timespan. I can
- 43:38Speaker 1: fight twice, make good money and hit like there's so
- 43:40Speaker 1: many different variables in it and play. So it's a
- 43:42Speaker 1: kind of a gift and a curse. But I think
- 43:45Speaker 1: guys are getting paid so well now, especially the headlining guys,
- 43:48Speaker 1: that they're not forced to fight as often as they
- 43:51Speaker 1: could or even should.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a really interesting point, just overall about how
- 43:56Speaker 2: chill guys are. I mean, we had a couple episodes
- 43:58Speaker 2: of back we had Legend of Boxing Legends Lounge, and
- 44:01Speaker 2: he was talking about how the heavyweight division, and this
- 44:05Speaker 2: isn't a total segue, I'm gonna I'll tie it back in,
- 44:08Speaker 2: but he was talking about how there's a lot of
- 44:10Speaker 2: focus on heavyweight fighters' skills and you know, it used
- 44:13Speaker 2: to be about knockouts, and people are missing he said
- 44:16Speaker 2: that ferociousness. I think it might be true to say
- 44:19Speaker 2: that overall about the entire sport, right like, people are
- 44:23Speaker 2: missing that drive, that ferocious that that hunger. People aren't
- 44:27Speaker 2: as hungry as they used to be back in the day.
- 44:31Speaker 2: I think I think and this is this is a
- 44:35Speaker 2: personal gripe, I'll admit, but I think fans to get
- 44:38Speaker 2: too got up on the shit talking when it comes
- 44:41Speaker 2: to like the press conferences and the fights are made.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Right before the fight. You got two guys that are
- 44:45Speaker 2: gonna fight, and they're like, of course talking, so you're like, oh,
- 44:48Speaker 2: I'm gonna murder this dude. I'm gonna rip his head
- 44:50Speaker 2: off in the ring, blah blah blah blah blah. And
- 44:52Speaker 2: then after the fight, the fighters hug and they say,
- 44:54Speaker 2: you know, great fight. You know they're they're they're basically buddies,
- 44:57Speaker 2: and fans were like what the Hill was thought they
- 44:59Speaker 2: hated each other. Very few fighters actually hate each other,
- 45:02Speaker 2: like really, some dude, some dude. But it's all for
- 45:05Speaker 2: the show. And like, that's not where I want to
- 45:07Speaker 2: see people's ferociousness come out, you know what I mean
- 45:10Speaker 2: in the press conference, Like I want people hungry to
- 45:13Speaker 2: take down the big guy and say, you know, I
- 45:15Speaker 2: want that son of a bitch. I want that fight
- 45:17Speaker 2: to show him that he's not the best in the
- 45:18Speaker 2: world that I am. I think it's a little bit misplaced,
- 45:22Speaker 2: but I don't know how you feel about that. I mean,
- 45:24Speaker 2: I know whenever I see fighters just talking mad shit
- 45:29Speaker 2: in the press conferences, my first thought is, I don't
- 45:32Speaker 2: mean that they're just doing it for the for the audience.
- 45:34Speaker 2: But I don't know, what do you think.
- 45:36Speaker 1: I mean, a lot of is performative. You know, everybody's
- 45:38Speaker 1: trying to sell a fight. You know, the more you
- 45:40Speaker 1: sell a fight, for more people tune in. I get it, exam.
- 45:43Speaker 1: We don't have a lot of natural shit talkers anymore. Well,
- 45:46Speaker 1: we don't have that. Everything's either manufacturer or it's weird.
- 45:49Speaker 1: We don't have the guy from back in the day,
- 45:51Speaker 1: like I mentioned a couple episodes ago, but our Hopkins
- 45:55Speaker 1: literally through the Puerto Rican flag down on the ground
- 46:00Speaker 1: in Puerto Rico before fighting Tito. We don't have that.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That's not no one's doing that in this day and age.
- 46:06Speaker 1: We don't have that. We don't have natural shiit talkings.
- 46:08Speaker 1: We have guys that are we have a lot of
- 46:10Speaker 1: social media guys. We have a lot of social media guys.
- 46:13Speaker 1: That's what that's what we have. So it's a little
- 46:15Speaker 1: bit different now because yeah, guys talk a lot and
- 46:19Speaker 1: they do a lot, but it's via social media. It's
- 46:22Speaker 1: not in person. In person, guys are quiet even at
- 46:26Speaker 1: the ring walks in the day before the press conferences.
- 46:30Speaker 1: Guys ain't really chirping like that like they used to
- 46:32Speaker 1: back in the day. We find guys talking cash shit,
- 46:36Speaker 1: the whole pre fight thing, the whole lead up to it.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Don't really have that no more. But social media, like
- 46:42Speaker 1: you said, you'll see a tweet in the leite, you'll
- 46:45Speaker 1: see random captions or emoji or something like that. But
- 46:49Speaker 1: the natural shit talking has definitely left the sport for
- 46:52Speaker 1: the time being.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Yeah, well, things change. Things are always changing.
- 46:56Speaker 1: You know.
- 46:56Speaker 2: You got a different way to touch shit on on Twitter,
- 46:59Speaker 2: on Instagram, and you know, yeah, I I don't love
- 47:02Speaker 2: it either. I mean, but at the end of the day, Okay,
- 47:05Speaker 2: I'll say this talk is talk no matter how but
- 47:08Speaker 2: you're talking, you're doing. You know, it's your Your damn
- 47:11Speaker 2: fist is gonna speak in the ring. So at the
- 47:13Speaker 2: end of the day, that's what's going to matter to me.
- 47:16Speaker 2: But I want the fights to be made. If you're
- 47:19Speaker 2: gonna talk shit about somebody not being because you're going
- 47:21Speaker 2: to send them a contract that you want to get
- 47:23Speaker 2: in the ring with them as fast as possible, you
- 47:24Speaker 2: know what I mean. I think another thing too about
- 47:28Speaker 2: the social media thing is just people are just sniping
- 47:30Speaker 2: at anybody like spray and pray. I'm like, why, you
- 47:33Speaker 2: know what, what what what do you take that energy
- 47:35Speaker 2: and give us a damn good fight and show us
- 47:37Speaker 2: how much you how much better you really think you
- 47:39Speaker 2: are than chikor or than Brian Art. You know what
- 47:42Speaker 2: I'm saying. But that's yeah, that's like I said, that's
- 47:45Speaker 2: called more of a like a just personal gripes on
- 47:48Speaker 2: on how boxers move these days. Uh, all right, let's
- 47:53Speaker 2: let's switch tracks and talk about it an actual fight
- 47:55Speaker 2: that has been made that is coming up this weekend.
- 47:59Speaker 2: What I'm excited about, uh, Sebastan fo Nora versus Keith
- 48:03Speaker 2: Thurman or Sebastian fonorra if you're if you're not X, Yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 2: I'm excited about this one. I know Keith Thurman his
- 48:12Speaker 2: little bit of record, I think it was thirty thirty
- 48:14Speaker 2: three and one. I believe it's his record thirty one
- 48:17Speaker 2: and one. Sebastian Fanoid is a little bit under that
- 48:20Speaker 2: and is in the low twenty so not you know,
- 48:24Speaker 2: super big difference in generation any of that. But about Standa,
- 48:27Speaker 2: his big thing is he's the dude who fights at
- 48:32Speaker 2: light midweight at six foot five, like this dude is
- 48:36Speaker 2: just like general, I can't comprehend with the fact that
- 48:43Speaker 2: that guy is that tall and still makes that way
- 48:45Speaker 2: cup because what is that like like four it's like midweight,
- 48:51Speaker 2: So like, how does that happen? Like you do we know,
- 48:55Speaker 2: have you ever met anybody that's just like tall It
- 48:58Speaker 2: just carries around like that much weight and it's like
- 49:00Speaker 2: it's just skinny.
- 49:01Speaker 1: I played I played basketball for a long time, so
- 49:04Speaker 1: I've seen guys that are seven foot two hundred pounds
- 49:08Speaker 1: or one hundred and eighty pounds, So it's just it's normal.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Like I've seen guys six five one, forty five fifty.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I've seen it. It's kind of now they're not fighters,
- 49:20Speaker 1: they're basketball players or track guys, so it's a little
- 49:23Speaker 1: bit different. But I've definitely seen it before. Boxing is
- 49:26Speaker 1: is tough because your torsula so much that's open that
- 49:31Speaker 1: if you get the right guy, if he has the
- 49:32Speaker 1: right game plan, it feels like it can you know,
- 49:35Speaker 1: it can be a problem. But though that being said,
- 49:38Speaker 1: Keith Thurman, he's a guy that went from possibly getting
- 49:42Speaker 1: the biggest fight possible to fighting a couple of times
- 49:45Speaker 1: in like five to six years, which is very interesting
- 49:48Speaker 1: now him being able to headline a card in twenty
- 49:51Speaker 1: twenty six. I you know, I guess. I mean it's
- 49:55Speaker 1: an MGM, which is still a big venue. But I,
- 49:59Speaker 1: like you said, we kind of work confuse on when
- 50:02Speaker 1: it was because they're promo last week for it, and
- 50:06Speaker 1: I went to day I was like, oh, no, it's
- 50:08Speaker 1: next week, and I saw all of people promoting and
- 50:10Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, this is interesting. To be honest with you,
- 50:13Speaker 1: I have no idea what to expect from Keith thurmant.
- 50:15Speaker 1: I have no idea when you fight that little and
- 50:18Speaker 1: that's part of the part of the thing I'm talking about.
- 50:20Speaker 1: You can't be that inactive over that means unless you
- 50:22Speaker 1: have serious injuries, you can't be this and you can't
- 50:25Speaker 1: be this inactive. There's no way.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm interested to see what we'll saying. I think
- 50:30Speaker 2: this is more of a like, let's see if Sebastian
- 50:33Speaker 2: Fodor really has it and you know, can just kind
- 50:35Speaker 2: of keep making his name. This could be a big
- 50:38Speaker 2: start making turn for him. And at the end of
- 50:40Speaker 2: the day, I mean, Keith Thurman's like he's also fought
- 50:43Speaker 2: a lot of like how much more of a career
- 50:45Speaker 2: he had does he have even if he does win
- 50:48Speaker 2: this like, yeah, he's I think he's head only because
- 50:51Speaker 2: of Sebastian fo Door has a lot of hype. Part
- 50:53Speaker 2: of it is, yeah, the the look of him and
- 50:57Speaker 2: putting him in the posters next to a dude who's like,
- 50:59Speaker 2: you know, two feet shorter than him or whatever. You
- 51:02Speaker 2: know that that catches eyeballs. And not to say that
- 51:04Speaker 2: he's not a good fighter, don't get me wrong, you
- 51:06Speaker 2: know he is, absolutely, but it does come does work
- 51:10Speaker 2: well with the marketing. You know, a tidy guy fighting
- 51:14Speaker 2: a dude who's six foot five at that weight class night.
- 51:16Speaker 2: Uh So I think that, yeah, I think that's what
- 51:19Speaker 2: it's more about, is that, you know, let's let's uh,
- 51:21Speaker 2: let's fight unnamed for Szebastian funor to to fight. Keep
- 51:25Speaker 2: hyping him up as if he doesn't win, which I'm expecting,
- 51:30Speaker 2: because yeah, he's he's been more active and he's you know,
- 51:33Speaker 2: gugger and just as has a lot more a lot
- 51:37Speaker 2: more fight in him. Likely. Uh this could be a
- 51:40Speaker 2: stepping stone for being more of a mainstream name, another
- 51:43Speaker 2: of the big Mexican names in the future potentially, Uh
- 51:46Speaker 2: but yeah, I mean and if there's got a career,
- 51:49Speaker 2: you know. He his only loss was to Manny Paciel,
- 51:52Speaker 2: which is understandable, it's fair. But and let's not forget
- 51:58Speaker 2: the Sebastian is not unbeatable. He has an l on
- 52:01Speaker 2: his his record and a draw. It's just really really
- 52:05Speaker 2: hard to get on the inside when somebody has that
- 52:07Speaker 2: much reach. It's like it's like fighting it damn the
- 52:13Speaker 2: ends of the Tucking Trees from Lord of the Rings. H. Sorry,
- 52:17Speaker 2: I don't know where that came from. I'm I host
- 52:18Speaker 2: the boxing podcast. I'm cool. I'm not not a nerd
- 52:21Speaker 2: at all, but but I mean, I'm excited to see it.
- 52:25Speaker 2: You know, I was definitely gonna be looking for a
- 52:27Speaker 2: sports part in Chicago to check it out.
- 52:29Speaker 1: Uh.
- 52:30Speaker 2: The thing about somebody who's who's very lean and athletic,
- 52:34Speaker 2: you know, speed is a big deal. Sebastily for confuses
- 52:38Speaker 2: me because you're tall, and like, I don't know what
- 52:41Speaker 2: it's like to be that tall. How well you can
- 52:44Speaker 2: move and swing again, you can't. It's hard to get
- 52:46Speaker 2: on the inside when you have reach. One thing I
- 52:48Speaker 2: remember from when I was sparring, I went from a
- 52:50Speaker 2: fat guy to to being very very lean. But there
- 52:53Speaker 2: was that one period in between when I lost weight
- 52:57Speaker 2: and I didn't have a protective layer of fat, and
- 52:59Speaker 2: I also didn't build up you know, ABB muscles very well.
- 53:02Speaker 2: So anytime I got hidden the body bro I was,
- 53:04Speaker 2: I thought I was gonna die. It's the It's the
- 53:08Speaker 2: worst of all worlds, is uh, you know, just losing
- 53:12Speaker 2: weight without building ABB muscles. Because I think I had
- 53:14Speaker 2: like a bruised rib one time where and then I
- 53:17Speaker 2: was like, oh it'll go away. I'm cool. I'm like,
- 53:20Speaker 2: I'm not that old. Yeah, I know. I The worst
- 53:23Speaker 2: part is I kept working out with it and it
- 53:25Speaker 2: got worse, and then I was laid up for like
- 53:27Speaker 2: a week.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Yeah, it's hard to breathe me out busting ribs. It's
- 53:30Speaker 1: very difficult than it was.
- 53:33Speaker 2: It wasn't it wasn't broken. It wasn't but it was
- 53:35Speaker 2: like like it was just consistent.
- 53:37Speaker 1: It was not regular. It's it's messed up.
- 53:40Speaker 2: That's fair. Yeah, yeah, it wasn't regular. It was My
- 53:45Speaker 2: dumbass was like, okay, it's it's just it just kind
- 53:47Speaker 2: of hurts. Let me just you know, let me take
- 53:49Speaker 2: it easy. But I still kept doing, like I don't know,
- 53:51Speaker 2: whatever push ups are, sit up whatever the hell I
- 53:53Speaker 2: was doing. And then the next day I was like, well,
- 53:55Speaker 2: it's about feels the same. Let me keep doing more
- 53:57Speaker 2: push ups, set up this and that. Boom, and then
- 54:00Speaker 2: I'm like it's just getting worse. Oh shit. And then
- 54:02Speaker 2: the fourth day it was terrible, Like it just just
- 54:05Speaker 2: was constant pain. But that's a bit of a tangent.
- 54:10Speaker 2: But for anybody whos out there, you know, training working out,
- 54:15Speaker 2: getting into good shape, don't overdo it, don't overtrain, and
- 54:17Speaker 2: they'll be like, oh, it's a little bit of an injury.
- 54:19Speaker 2: I can just power through. That could get real bad,
- 54:21Speaker 2: really fast. Also also fucked up my ankle because I
- 54:25Speaker 2: was like, that's a little sore, but I I could
- 54:27Speaker 2: run two miles on it. Idiot.
- 54:32Speaker 1: Here's the thing. You can do that at being young,
- 54:34Speaker 1: you can definitely do that because you're adrenaline. It's being young.
- 54:38Speaker 1: Those injuries come back and hurt you later. So doing
- 54:42Speaker 1: that in your twenties is all fine and well. But
- 54:45Speaker 1: if you tweak anything in your thirties or forties, man,
- 54:49Speaker 1: it ain't it man, it all it all comes back.
- 54:51Speaker 1: It hurts way worse.
- 54:55Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah. God, those are the days. Remember when we
- 54:57Speaker 2: used to just like sleep for two hours and then
- 54:59Speaker 2: get up and go to school, go to work, and
- 55:00Speaker 2: we're hungover and we're just like whatever, good so fun.
- 55:04Speaker 1: In fact, we talked about bars earlier, right, there was
- 55:07Speaker 1: a bar that was basically right across the street from
- 55:10Speaker 1: my apartment. Probably walk there if I really wanted to. No,
- 55:13Speaker 1: it definitely could walk if I really wanted to. They
- 55:16Speaker 1: were privately owned, so I knew the bartender that worked
- 55:19Speaker 1: the evening shift, eleven to seven shift, And there were
- 55:23Speaker 1: nights there when we didn't get out of there till
- 55:25Speaker 1: five am. Well, when you got work and or school
- 55:29Speaker 1: at seven eight am, hey man, you take a quick
- 55:32Speaker 1: little nap, take a quick a little shower. You just
- 55:35Speaker 1: do what you gotta do. And that was life for
- 55:38Speaker 1: twenty one years old person and twenty and twenty two
- 55:41Speaker 1: and all that stuff.
- 55:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but I've had more of those nights than I
- 55:45Speaker 2: could count. Actually, you know what, I'm not even putting
- 55:48Speaker 2: on blast because like he's he he'll tell you himself.
- 55:53Speaker 2: But our producer, Jabia Davis and I have had many
- 55:56Speaker 2: of those nights or we're just like having a good time.
- 55:58Speaker 2: It's like, oh man, work is going to be really
- 56:00Speaker 2: really soon we'll be fine. Drink drink a soda and
- 56:06Speaker 2: just you know a little bit of caffeine coffee the
- 56:08Speaker 2: soda and you know, grab a burrito and man, you
- 56:10Speaker 2: can go all day and then guess what happened that
- 56:13Speaker 2: night back at the bar at nine pm? Like clockworks right?
- 56:17Speaker 2: Oh man, But that's the tell you all, Like, I
- 56:22Speaker 2: guess I am a little still, you know, coming back
- 56:24Speaker 2: from a bunch up to Chicago, because we're kind of
- 56:26Speaker 2: kind of Bobby weeping here. But anyway, yeah, no, I.
- 56:31Speaker 1: You ain't got apologize, Just keep you ain't got apologize.
- 56:35Speaker 2: No, it's hey, we're having fun here. We're just having
- 56:37Speaker 2: a good time. We're not a se shirt podcast here,
- 56:42Speaker 2: you know, we're not. We're not you know, we don't
- 56:44Speaker 2: have like TV people being like wrapping up, wrapping up.
- 56:46Speaker 1: So boxing for hours straight without light mixing things in
- 56:51Speaker 1: like boxing talking boxing for an hour straight.
- 56:54Speaker 2: It's crazy that that is that is very true. Yeah,
- 56:57Speaker 2: so you're you're here for for boxing news, also for
- 57:00Speaker 2: sodality and some stories of how how two old guys
- 57:03Speaker 2: used to party all the time and then just his
- 57:05Speaker 2: naw for two hours and then just crush it. But yeah,
- 57:08Speaker 2: you know, I will say though, thinking about it'll go
- 57:11Speaker 2: to that trip and how I was with Chicago sixteen.
- 57:14Speaker 2: I'm a four year old man. I'm not mad about it, Like,
- 57:16Speaker 2: I'm not the kind of was like, Man, I wish
- 57:18Speaker 2: I was a teenager again. Man, screw that. Like, I'm
- 57:22Speaker 2: I'm happy to be older, wiser. Yeah, a little slower,
- 57:26Speaker 2: but teenage years slicker man being twenty in broke socked.
- 57:33Speaker 2: But with that said, this week in Sebastian Fandora Versus
- 57:38Speaker 2: Keith Thurman Saturday March twenty eighth, check it out. I'm
- 57:44Speaker 2: really excited about it, and yeah, we'll see you know,
- 57:47Speaker 2: I do think that Keith Thurman's kind of like the
- 57:49Speaker 2: Stepie Stone for Sebastian Fandora, and you know, he's got
- 57:52Speaker 2: a lot of hype behind him. So let's see how
- 57:54Speaker 2: this laky, skinny weirdo does with his career. And I'm
- 57:57Speaker 2: excited to see it. But we could wrap it up
- 58:00Speaker 2: with that, Jamison, where can people find you? On social media?
- 58:03Speaker 1: At Twitter? At that you Jamison's best spot to find me.
- 58:06Speaker 1: It's gonna be interesting to see Keith Thurman fight for
- 58:09Speaker 1: you know, it's been a while, so interesting to see
- 58:12Speaker 1: yeah on Twitter excellent well.
