- 0:10Speaker 2: The World's a Big podcast.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Welcome to batre Gets Unfiltered. Why don't you run down
- 0:22Speaker 3: the latest moves?
- 0:23Speaker 4: Oh, it's well, it's just one. It's just kJ kJ Osborne.
- 0:26Speaker 4: He's a player. He can play in the NFL, and
- 0:28Speaker 4: I mean.
- 0:28Speaker 5: He can play in the NFL.
- 0:30Speaker 3: You know, first year the quarterback does okay in the
- 0:33Speaker 3: second year, like his coordinator is a guy from the defense, Like, like,
- 0:37Speaker 3: you're not.
- 0:37Speaker 5: Allowed to do that after the way you talked, allowed
- 0:42Speaker 5: to make those kind of you? Thanks, I.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So you're into May.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Just yeah, it's got to be May. It's gotta be mag.
- 0:51Speaker 4: He's just Jalen Ragers are leading the wide receivers. He's
- 0:54Speaker 4: shooting up the depth chart.
- 0:55Speaker 5: Oh my god, Like as.
- 1:00Speaker 4: No, well, I wasn't really listening to you at that point.
- 1:02Speaker 5: I don't know what you're saying.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Superpowers that he's made some of those.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Oh he's always working, Blue, He's always working.
- 1:15Speaker 5: I was gonna say something really smart and then you
- 1:18Speaker 5: just had to do that, all right.
- 1:20Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered.

- 1:29Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here
- 1:34Speaker 3: at Jillette Stadium. It's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Evan. No, Paul,
- 1:39Speaker 3: it's that annual show March madness. He's uh knee deep
- 1:43Speaker 3: in Miller lights at this point.
- 1:45Speaker 4: Well but it started it but lights. Yeah, right, good,
- 1:49Speaker 4: even he's probably he's about four SIPs in right now,
- 1:53Speaker 4: twelve or five, but we we I texted him at
- 1:56Speaker 4: I don't know ten. I thought he'd already be pregaming,
- 1:58Speaker 4: but Paul apparently waits till the start of the game
- 1:59Speaker 4: before he gets going.
- 2:00Speaker 5: So well, the games are at like eleven thirty, so
- 2:02Speaker 5: I hope along way.
- 2:05Speaker 4: No, no, no, this is his fun day. But loser
- 2:08Speaker 4: is that?
- 2:08Speaker 3: No, See, this isn't loser Palooza. Loser Palooza was when
- 2:11Speaker 3: he would go to some other tournament. It was like
- 2:15Speaker 3: some mid Atlantic tournament that like Delaware was in in
- 2:19Speaker 3: Northeastern and he would do that with his friends. They
- 2:22Speaker 3: would actually travel to it. That was loser Palooza.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Jeez, yeah, sounds fun.
- 2:27Speaker 4: A bunch of your buddies go to some random, yeah
- 2:29Speaker 4: basketball tournament, well not random for Paul it's Northeastern. He
- 2:32Speaker 4: loves it.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I wish that. I I was big into
- 2:34Speaker 5: March Madness as a kid. I you know, fill out
- 2:37Speaker 5: the bracket and you used to have to do it
- 2:39Speaker 5: yourself still so you'd like cross off the teams and
- 2:42Speaker 5: stuff like that. Now it's all digital. But nowadays, like I,
- 2:45Speaker 5: you know, you have to prioritize, like you can only
- 2:47Speaker 5: watch so many sports, like you can't watch all of them.
- 2:49Speaker 5: And unfortunately college basketball with no real rooting interest in it.
- 2:53Speaker 5: I think it's probably why. You know, there's no Boston
- 2:55Speaker 5: based rooting interest.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So it's just we had you mask for a little
- 2:59Speaker 4: bit with like Marcus Camby.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Yeah, and BC has had their moments, but that yeah,
- 3:05Speaker 5: Jared Dudley, Providence didn't even make it. Yeah, yeah, that's
- 3:09Speaker 5: what they say.
- 3:10Speaker 2: They didn't even fill out a bracket for.
- 3:13Speaker 5: I just I tried. I looked at took one look
- 3:15Speaker 5: at the men's bracket and was like, I have no idea.
- 3:19Speaker 5: I'm literally good, I'm going to be picking based off
- 3:22Speaker 5: of mascots here or something like that out here like.
- 3:25Speaker 4: That one that one. But Nicol had harassed me a
- 3:27Speaker 4: little bit to fill out a bracket. So it's the
- 3:29Speaker 4: office fun.
- 3:30Speaker 3: No one even asked me.
- 3:31Speaker 4: No, well they know you're you're you gotta you gotta feel.
- 3:33Speaker 2: For there wasn't one on your desk, A bracket on
- 3:35Speaker 2: your desk.
- 3:35Speaker 5: No, it's not too late.
- 3:37Speaker 4: We got you. I only did it because I knew
- 3:39Speaker 4: Nico would then have to go through and correct all
- 3:41Speaker 4: of them.
- 3:42Speaker 5: Like okay, good, Like here you go. I meant to
- 3:44Speaker 5: say to her, why didn't you make like one on
- 3:47Speaker 5: ESPN or something that does it for you. She's she
- 3:49Speaker 5: doesn't know, it's just chalie.
- 3:53Speaker 3: She came into my office, yes, and she goes, I'm
- 3:55Speaker 3: handing out inspirational quotes on post its and she.
- 3:58Speaker 8: Just gave me.
- 3:58Speaker 4: When I left, It's like, okay, I got She came
- 4:00Speaker 4: to my desk this morning and goes, did you see
- 4:02Speaker 4: my post it? And I was like no, no, and
- 4:04Speaker 4: then she goes, oh, maybe I dreamed that. I'm like
- 4:07Speaker 4: you're dreaming about Like what? No, So it was inspirational quotes.
- 4:09Speaker 4: I want an inspirational quote.
- 4:11Speaker 5: She's a character. What was it?
- 4:12Speaker 3: Mine was keep being creative? It's contagious.
- 4:15Speaker 5: Oh that's pretty good for content creator. Yeah, I guess.
- 4:20Speaker 3: So I don't know, is she making these up or she's.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Making them up in front of me.
- 4:25Speaker 9: She scribbled something on a post, put it down in
- 4:27Speaker 9: his head. Your smile makes the world smile.
- 4:29Speaker 5: And she keep up.
- 4:33Speaker 4: She's gonna come charging down here in a second, I hope.
- 4:35Speaker 3: So all right, what do we got? Oh?
- 4:40Speaker 5: Not a lot.
- 4:41Speaker 4: The last couple of days. We did talk to kJ
- 4:43Speaker 4: Osborne yesterday. I think, you know, Chris Price asked him
- 4:46Speaker 4: about you know, there's a story last year that he
- 4:49Speaker 4: was in an uber and witnessed a car accident, car
- 4:51Speaker 4: on fire and him and he was sure to you know,
- 4:54Speaker 4: pass credits to some other people as well, pulled this
- 4:56Speaker 4: guy out of the burning car. So he updated that
- 5:00Speaker 4: story a little bit, said, unfortunately the guy lost his
- 5:02Speaker 4: lost his foot. I think I got at his foot
- 5:03Speaker 4: amputated recently. But he's kept in touch with him, and
- 5:07Speaker 4: you know, I think he's a really good, really good guy.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I mean I always they're you know, generally pretty good guys,
- 5:12Speaker 4: but sometimes guys just stand out, seem like they have
- 5:15Speaker 4: a really good presence and seem like they'll bring a
- 5:17Speaker 4: lot of you know, positive energy, kind of like Kendrick
- 5:20Speaker 4: Bourne to the locker room. So we'll see what happens
- 5:23Speaker 4: on the field. He seemed to acknowledge exactly what he
- 5:25Speaker 4: was stepping into here with with the depth chart the
- 5:27Speaker 4: way it is and the uncertainty of quarterback. But he
- 5:30Speaker 4: acknowledged all that, and uh, now, you know it's you
- 5:32Speaker 4: talk to these guys and you kind of root for him.
- 5:33Speaker 4: You hear them, this sounds like a good guy. I
- 5:35Speaker 4: want to you know, I want to see him do well.
- 5:37Speaker 4: So we'll see. We'll get a look at him a
- 5:39Speaker 4: couple of months here.
- 5:40Speaker 5: Yeah, that was my biggest takeaway from him was that
- 5:42Speaker 5: he fully acknowledged that he is entering a rebuild and
- 5:46Speaker 5: he knows that it's going to be tough. I think
- 5:49Speaker 5: he called it a grind.
- 5:50Speaker 3: You know.
- 5:50Speaker 5: He knows that they're not going to come in here
- 5:51Speaker 5: and when a Super Bowl in year one, that it's
- 5:53Speaker 5: going to be what. It's something that they're going to
- 5:55Speaker 5: have all to be thrown into. So I think that
- 5:59Speaker 5: that's good. You have to have that mindset. You can't
- 6:01Speaker 5: come in here thinking that you're going to be You're
- 6:03Speaker 5: going into something that you're not, you know, So I
- 6:05Speaker 5: think the realism was was nice to hear.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Okay, I just hate the questions like do you feel
- 6:11Speaker 4: like you're a number one? Like whenever you talk, like
- 6:12Speaker 4: whenever someone.
- 6:13Speaker 5: I wish I kind of wish she said no to that.
- 6:15Speaker 5: To be honest with number one, what does that mean?
- 6:18Speaker 5: Let's be realistic, Okay, Like just you are already realistic
- 6:22Speaker 5: about the fact that they're not gonna be like this
- 6:24Speaker 5: great juggernaut team right out of the gate, So let's
- 6:26Speaker 5: just be realistic about the entire scenario. We know you're
- 6:29Speaker 5: a number three receiver, and that's fine, Like you're going
- 6:32Speaker 5: to be a competent number three receiver.
- 6:33Speaker 4: I mean, I will say, and Pop Douglas changes number three,
- 6:36Speaker 4: by the way, we can you know. So I got like,
- 6:38Speaker 4: I think Osbourne's going to be two when we've got
- 6:40Speaker 4: a lot of single.
- 6:40Speaker 5: Numbers going on.
- 6:41Speaker 4: But I will say, the last couple of years, you know,
- 6:43Speaker 4: even going into last year, I felt like they kind
- 6:45Speaker 4: of just they lacked that role, you know. And I
- 6:48Speaker 4: know that they still have big needs on the outside,
- 6:49Speaker 4: but at the very least, I look at these guys
- 6:52Speaker 4: and I just I really wonder about Juju and Thornton
- 6:55Speaker 4: and Pop and now Osborne that foursome.
- 6:59Speaker 5: How does that play out?
- 7:00Speaker 3: You know?
- 7:00Speaker 5: I think, I really think you're just gonna have to
- 7:02Speaker 5: bring something.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Yeah, they just still need that WR one and maybe
- 7:06Speaker 3: even w R two, but they still need the guy.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, I think that's the thing. I mean,
- 7:12Speaker 4: I think Eving you said, it's just, you know, you
- 7:13Speaker 4: kind of have a waiting spot for for maybe somebody
- 7:15Speaker 4: on the outside because they really don't have anyone right
- 7:18Speaker 4: now that can do it.
- 7:19Speaker 3: But so, who's this guy from Texas? It is like
- 7:23Speaker 3: shooting up the draft.
- 7:25Speaker 5: Now, this is my favorite part.
- 7:27Speaker 3: And somebody is this. I heard somebody say, I think,
- 7:30Speaker 3: I don't know, it's Phil Perry that this he might
- 7:33Speaker 3: be one of the top prospects in the draft.
- 7:37Speaker 5: So the Texas has two receivers. Yeah, they have Adie Mitchell,
- 7:40Speaker 5: who's a big outside X receiver, and they have Xavier Worthy,
- 7:44Speaker 5: who broke the forty record at the combine four two
- 7:47Speaker 5: to one forty yard dash.
- 7:49Speaker 10: Uh.
- 7:49Speaker 5: He is very different players like Adie Mitchell is. You know,
- 7:54Speaker 5: I compared him to Michael Pittman junior. He's in that
- 7:56Speaker 5: type of body type, contested catch guy, but can run
- 8:00Speaker 5: routes at all three levels. Zaberworthy is an absolute firecracker,
- 8:05Speaker 5: just a burner all over the field, you know, punt
- 8:08Speaker 5: return type skills with the ball in his hands, joystick fades.
- 8:13Speaker 5: But from the slot, you know, he's a pure speed
- 8:15Speaker 5: slot if you're going to try to put him into
- 8:17Speaker 5: one position. But it sounds like Tyler Hughes, the wide
- 8:21Speaker 5: receivers coach for the Patriots, and maybe Taekwon Underwood two it'
- 8:24Speaker 5: said wide receiver coach. I don't know which one it was.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Was at Texas for their pro day yesterday and had
- 8:30Speaker 5: a meeting with Worthy for a little sit down.
- 8:34Speaker 4: Top they have a high top fade because that might
- 8:36Speaker 4: clarify who it was.
- 8:37Speaker 5: Yeah, right, and I have to figure that out, but yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 5: it was. Both those guys are projected picks twenty to
- 8:45Speaker 5: thirty five, I would say, but probably both in the
- 8:48Speaker 5: first round. You don't you don't run four two to
- 8:51Speaker 5: one and usually get out of the first round. That
- 8:53Speaker 5: doesn't happen too often.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Well depends. You know, Taekwon like, it's great to run
- 8:59Speaker 3: a forty yard dead, but can you run a clean
- 9:01Speaker 3: route to get off?
- 9:03Speaker 5: This guy can run routes like this was a guy
- 9:05Speaker 5: that has really good film at Texas for two years
- 9:08Speaker 5: now and Worthy that then went to the combine and
- 9:11Speaker 5: ran the fastest time ever. So he's he in a
- 9:14Speaker 5: different day and age. If you know what's his name,
- 9:17Speaker 5: Al Davis was still alive, and it'd probably be a
- 9:20Speaker 5: top ten pick. I think we've learned a little bit
- 9:22Speaker 5: now that you know one hundred and seventy five pound
- 9:26Speaker 5: speed receivers, you might need to be a little bit
- 9:28Speaker 5: more careful with those types of guys. Yeah, a little
- 9:31Speaker 5: plug though.
- 9:32Speaker 4: I'm gonna be speaking to Daniel Jeremiah here in the
- 9:34Speaker 4: one o'clock hour in the side studio for Patriots Staft Countdown,
- 9:38Speaker 4: which we released a new episode yesterday. So I'm excited
- 9:41Speaker 4: to talk to to DJ. I think can I call
- 9:43Speaker 4: him DJ, I'm gonna ask him. I call him TJ.
- 9:46Speaker 4: But I he's just one of the best, and I'm
- 9:48Speaker 4: really excited to, you know, get him. I was telling
- 9:51Speaker 4: Alex before though, like I remember when I lived in
- 9:53Speaker 4: LA when he was first starting his podcast, and it was,
- 9:56Speaker 4: you know, the early days, I mean probably two thousand
- 9:58Speaker 4: and eight, two thousand and nine. Do it from his house.
- 10:00Speaker 4: You could like hear the echo and it was like, man,
- 10:03Speaker 4: this guy knows a lot about football. I mean, at
- 10:05Speaker 4: that point, you knew he was a former scout, but
- 10:07Speaker 4: they're excited to talk to him, and that episode will
- 10:09Speaker 4: be up next week. So if any of you guys
- 10:12Speaker 4: have specific questions you want to get to him, let
- 10:14Speaker 4: me know and I will get a So you're doing
- 10:16Speaker 4: that at one, I'm gonna pop out at one.
- 10:18Speaker 5: I have him. I have him Fred from one fifteen
- 10:20Speaker 5: to one.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Twenty eight, as I was told, So I'll make sure
- 10:22Speaker 4: he's out by one twenty eight. I'll be briefly off
- 10:24Speaker 4: the show, but maybe we could be pretty late late
- 10:26Speaker 4: for lunch and limit the time we don't.
- 10:28Speaker 5: Have to dou I mean it's big. I mean, I'll
- 10:30Speaker 5: give you a few questions because you have questions for
- 10:33Speaker 5: Daniel Jeremiah. Maybe you know, just a few. No, I
- 10:36Speaker 5: he's to me is right now the best draft analysts
- 10:40Speaker 5: in the business.
- 10:42Speaker 3: What what do those guys have that the like that
- 10:45Speaker 3: we don't have, Like you have access to all twenty
- 10:47Speaker 3: two you have, Like what are they felt scouting? Do
- 10:50Speaker 3: they have Daniel Jeremiah or Bucky whoever?
- 10:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'd say that's definitely big. You know, both of
- 10:56Speaker 5: those guys have worked in NFL front offices before. Okay,
- 10:59Speaker 5: and I would say. The other thing is is that
- 11:00Speaker 5: their draft year round, so they're on there talking to people,
- 11:06Speaker 5: they're going to schools, they're they're working with people. In
- 11:10Speaker 5: the fall season when we're watching NFL and we're with
- 11:13Speaker 5: the Patriots, they're at Alabama and they're at Georgia and
- 11:17Speaker 5: they're at these different places, which makes them just have
- 11:20Speaker 5: you know, kind of like Dane Brugler too, I think
- 11:22Speaker 5: is you know one A and one B. With those
- 11:24Speaker 5: two guys, they have such more background knowledge on who
- 11:29Speaker 5: are who are these people? You know that we just
- 11:31Speaker 5: don't know.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I like Brugler's beast, you know, like sounds like he
- 11:35Speaker 3: be a couple of weeks now. The information he gives
- 11:37Speaker 3: you and how he lays them out, it's it's really
- 11:39Speaker 3: easy to follow. You don't have to like a lot
- 11:42Speaker 3: of these guys. And I'll even throw our lads and
- 11:45Speaker 3: there's supplanted what our lads. It's one big paragraph and
- 11:48Speaker 3: you kind of have to find nuggets within. But the
- 11:51Speaker 3: way Brugler, you know weaknesses, he's got summary. You know,
- 11:57Speaker 3: he lays it out really well. He puts a lot
- 11:58Speaker 3: of work into it.
- 11:59Speaker 5: It's too bad it doesn't come out early.
- 12:01Speaker 4: I mean I understand why it doesn't because it's so thorough,
- 12:03Speaker 4: but like you, I mean, and I guess in a way,
- 12:05Speaker 4: I kind of like it. I even like, like at
- 12:07Speaker 4: this point when I've already you know, scoured the internet
- 12:09Speaker 4: for everything.
- 12:10Speaker 5: And watch these guys.
- 12:10Speaker 4: It's like now the draft magazines come out and you
- 12:13Speaker 4: can like, like even when I'm going down the floor
- 12:14Speaker 4: next week, I'm like just grab a draft magazine and
- 12:16Speaker 4: all of a sudden, you know, even those aren't that
- 12:18Speaker 4: expert that's not much expertise in some of those. But
- 12:20Speaker 4: I think his comes out now and it's like, man,
- 12:22Speaker 4: I can't even get through this whole thing. But you know,
- 12:24Speaker 4: you look at some guys that you like and kind
- 12:26Speaker 4: of get his perspective.
- 12:26Speaker 3: And you know, everything is digital now, but back in
- 12:29Speaker 3: the day, you know, when Kuiper started and Joe Bushbaum,
- 12:32Speaker 3: like they must have been like it must have been
- 12:35Speaker 3: monumental to be able to get all the information like that.
- 12:38Speaker 3: It's not. It wasn't all readily available, like it got.
- 12:41Speaker 4: To like track down film or go to games. Yeah,
- 12:43Speaker 4: I mean, really, Scout, how.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Do you figure out that guy that's in this lower
- 12:46Speaker 3: level conference?
- 12:47Speaker 5: Well, I have that problem right now. Because there's a
- 12:49Speaker 5: tackle from Yale ye with good luck trying to find
- 12:53Speaker 5: Ivy League film. I mean it's like, you know, forget
- 12:55Speaker 5: about it. So the kid from Yale and his best
- 12:57Speaker 5: game is actually against Holy Cross trying to to you
- 13:01Speaker 5: know that still exists in the the All twenty two
- 13:03Speaker 5: is it's a black market. It's not We're not doing this,
- 13:06Speaker 5: you know above board, like this is a black market
- 13:09Speaker 5: of you know, a bunch of us. Are that need it?
- 13:12Speaker 3: Are two guys meeting behind the shaws, you know, exchangers?
- 13:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean tell him about the article I read.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I read the free portion of that article you wrote
- 13:20Speaker 4: yesterday about was the Draft breakdown or what?
- 13:22Speaker 5: Yeah? So, uh yeah, are off uh hassen. We used
- 13:26Speaker 5: to be with the Athletic I hope I'm saying his
- 13:28Speaker 5: name correctly. And he wrote an article about the Draft Network,
- 13:32Speaker 5: which I remember coming onto the scene at the nineteen
- 13:36Speaker 5: combine was kind of their first big event and this
- 13:40Speaker 5: like crew of like ten people with these like awesome
- 13:43Speaker 5: polos and like the whole look right, come and show
- 13:46Speaker 5: up and there's this new website called the Draft Network,
- 13:49Speaker 5: and it was like I had a mock draft simulator.
- 13:51Speaker 5: It had great, great content. Benjamin Solak who's now with
- 13:55Speaker 5: The Ringer was on their Joe Marino, you know, Trevor,
- 14:00Speaker 5: like all those guys are really are really good. And
- 14:03Speaker 5: it's like a Netflix series of how this thing came apart,
- 14:07Speaker 5: you know, just bad ceo that you know, tore the
- 14:11Speaker 5: thing apart and was spending money to go on trips
- 14:14Speaker 5: around the world instead of paying the money back into
- 14:17Speaker 5: the company. And they had all these lawsuits out for
- 14:19Speaker 5: you know, hundreds of thousands of dollars that they were
- 14:22Speaker 5: just ignoring, and she would just ghost people and it
- 14:25Speaker 5: was it was literally like one of those Netflix series,
- 14:28Speaker 5: like true crime series. Yeah, it was wild to read
- 14:31Speaker 5: about kind.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Of the same thing that happened to Football Outsiders that
- 14:34Speaker 4: you know, similarly mis bought by a company, mismanaged. And
- 14:37Speaker 4: now it doesn't even really exist. I mean, I know
- 14:39Speaker 4: Aaron Shots has taken DV away to another site. Yeah,
- 14:42Speaker 4: and he still releases it there, but it's still.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Not as I was thinking that.
- 14:46Speaker 3: The time might be right for the next iteration of
- 14:49Speaker 3: Pro Football Talk. You know, when Pro Football Talk first started,
- 14:53Speaker 3: it was pretty good, like he you know, Mike was independent,
- 14:58Speaker 3: he had some good stuff and you know, teams were
- 15:01Speaker 3: paying attention. And then he got bought by NBC and
- 15:04Speaker 3: it kind of took the edge off of it.
- 15:06Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Prior to him, it was this guy who got thrown
- 15:10Speaker 3: in jail. I forget his fred fred Edelstein. I don't
- 15:13Speaker 3: know if you remember, but he would have this is
- 15:16Speaker 3: back with fax machines and so you would subscribe to
- 15:19Speaker 3: fred Edelstein's newsletter and Tuesday in your fax machine, the
- 15:23Speaker 3: newsletter would come and the teams would you know, and
- 15:26Speaker 3: he would throw s against the wall sometimes, but everybody
- 15:29Speaker 3: read him.
- 15:31Speaker 5: Now he ended up in jail.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but I think now there might be an opening
- 15:38Speaker 3: for you know again another NFL gossip rag, you know,
- 15:43Speaker 3: digital that everyone would read if they do it right.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Yeah, the Dragon, believe it or not.
- 15:48Speaker 3: Teams want to talk to those people off the record.
- 15:52Speaker 3: They want to get stuff out there.
- 15:54Speaker 5: It's hard with with like you said, with him being
- 15:55Speaker 5: with NBC.
- 15:56Speaker 4: Now he's got a big platform, he's got a lot
- 15:57Speaker 4: of relationships. And I remember, I mean even going back
- 16:01Speaker 4: to what I was saying about DJ and those you know,
- 16:02Speaker 4: two thousand and seven, two thousand and eight, those days
- 16:04Speaker 4: of yeah, when pro football talk was just yeah, I mean,
- 16:07Speaker 4: that was like one of your main screens when you
- 16:08Speaker 4: opened open your webine two.
- 16:10Speaker 9: Where like the comment sections were like little ecosystems of
- 16:14Speaker 9: their own before like the Internet comment tales exactly, pft
- 16:18Speaker 9: comment or literally got his start, in my mind, one
- 16:22Speaker 9: of like the best funniest personalities literally gotten to start commenting.
- 16:26Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah on Reddit.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Mina's Reddit stuff was good because she was a financial writer.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Yeah, she really good. She got discovered by Matthew Berry
- 16:36Speaker 5: on Reddit.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Yeah. But pro football talk now is more commenting on
- 16:39Speaker 3: other reports or him giving an opinion on something.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 3: It used to be where they'd get stuff, they'd get
- 16:45Speaker 3: scoops and it's like the dirt, and you know, I
- 16:49Speaker 3: think the league needs that type of repository for that
- 16:53Speaker 3: type of stuff.
- 16:54Speaker 5: Yeah, you know. Yeah. The Draft network I thought was
- 16:58Speaker 5: so such a cool concept and such a yeah well done,
- 17:01Speaker 5: and it was you know, the whole thing that the
- 17:02Speaker 5: article talked about was how you know what we call
- 17:05Speaker 5: draft Twitter, right, which is people like me who are
- 17:07Speaker 5: just nerding out about all these guys in the draft
- 17:09Speaker 5: all the time on Twitter. They were a company that
- 17:13Speaker 5: had actual funding behind it to represent Draft Twitter. So
- 17:17Speaker 5: it wasn't mel Kiper. It wasn't you know, these big
- 17:19Speaker 5: jay journalists. It was just normal people. I think Ben
- 17:23Speaker 5: was like nineteen when he got hired by the Draft Network,
- 17:25Speaker 5: you know that just normal people that were doing it,
- 17:28Speaker 5: that just were obsessed with the draft. And unfortunately the
- 17:32Speaker 5: guys that founded it, you know, had this great concept
- 17:35Speaker 5: and it just the business side of it just completely
- 17:37Speaker 5: erupted in their faces and now it's it's like a
- 17:40Speaker 5: shell of what it was.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I liked that they talked about what the like, what
- 17:43Speaker 4: the market deficiency that they saw was just a clean,
- 17:46Speaker 4: slick website that wasn't an onslaught of ads that a
- 17:49Speaker 4: lot of these websites are. When you try to go
- 17:52Speaker 4: like Walter Football, where it's like two thousand pop ups
- 17:54Speaker 4: and you know, you're trying to read like the little
- 17:56Speaker 4: text between each ads.
- 17:58Speaker 3: It's really annoying. It's a terrible experience.
- 18:01Speaker 4: But I guess that's probably with like subscription sites, now
- 18:03Speaker 4: they've gotten rid of that stuff so you can pay
- 18:05Speaker 4: a little money.
- 18:05Speaker 5: And yeah, the article is it's a long article, you know,
- 18:09Speaker 5: it's it's a really deep dive.
- 18:11Speaker 4: I wanted to I wanted to send you like tld
- 18:13Speaker 4: R like it was.
- 18:15Speaker 5: I was reading it, and as I was, because I,
- 18:17Speaker 5: you know, back, I would have worked there if like
- 18:19Speaker 5: the you know, if I there was a position that
- 18:22Speaker 5: was available that I was interested in. So I I
- 18:25Speaker 5: just started reading this stuff and I was like, oh
- 18:26Speaker 5: my god, Like could you imagine like this would have
- 18:29Speaker 5: been terrible?
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yeah? All right? Eight five five pasts five hundred is
- 18:32Speaker 3: the A Steckond Hotline web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 18:35Speaker 3: It's the email address.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Anything else going on, Well, we're gonna hear from mister
- 18:41Speaker 4: Hooper this afternoon, so we'll get another kid to talk
- 18:44Speaker 4: to another Patriots siginee, Austin Hooper. Okay, so we'll hear
- 18:47Speaker 4: from him, see what he has to say. If I'm
- 18:49Speaker 4: sure he's excited to be here.
- 18:50Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got the owners meeting next Monday and Tuesday.
- 18:54Speaker 3: On Monday, gerad mail will be live on Patriots dot com.
- 18:57Speaker 3: It's seven thirty Eastern.
- 18:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I think between.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Fifteen and then the owner will probably talk to the
- 19:05Speaker 3: media like he does every year, like in a scrum. Yeah,
- 19:09Speaker 3: and so we'll turn that around and have it on Tuesday,
- 19:11Speaker 3: I believe.
- 19:12Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, they'll be me and Tamara will be down
- 19:14Speaker 4: there a couple of video guys, so we'll do some videos.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Of course, there's you know, big big.
- 19:18Speaker 4: Party down there too, which is always fun. You have
- 19:20Speaker 4: like all of the NFL is there.
- 19:22Speaker 3: The cocktail sauce will be flowing.
- 19:24Speaker 4: I am curious if if the Patriots staff is at
- 19:27Speaker 4: the party, because last year.
- 19:28Speaker 5: It was, you know, it's like, hey Andy Reid, Hey
- 19:29Speaker 5: Sean McVay.
- 19:30Speaker 4: You know, everywhere you look, it's just like, oh, Melissa Stark,
- 19:32Speaker 4: I mean that that's the whole night.
- 19:33Speaker 5: But no, no Patrio, Andy Reed, Sean McVay, Melissa, you know,
- 19:38Speaker 5: I mean what does she coach?
- 19:40Speaker 10: No?
- 19:40Speaker 4: I mean it's you know, it's it's media, it's it's coaches,
- 19:43Speaker 4: it's you know, everybody.
- 19:44Speaker 5: You know, we Tamary and I last year were talking
- 19:46Speaker 5: basically like Prime forty seven right at like three o'clock
- 19:49Speaker 5: in the morning, right and it's just you know, sushi
- 19:51Speaker 5: and little dinner, A little dance sounds exactly the same dance.
- 19:55Speaker 5: You know, you're out there and Andy Reid, somebody.
- 19:58Speaker 4: I wonder if it'll be at the combine, like somebody's
- 20:00Speaker 4: got to drive Andy Reid around in a golf cart
- 20:02Speaker 4: because that was so.
- 20:03Speaker 5: Funny, like like jerk road hog.
- 20:14Speaker 3: All right, what is this kickoff rule they're talking about.
- 20:18Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's gonna be like one of the spring leagues.
- 20:21Speaker 5: I lose track of them that they're considering, where it's
- 20:24Speaker 5: like you basically have like a strike zone that you
- 20:27Speaker 5: can you know, there's ten yards that you everybody starts
- 20:30Speaker 5: within the same ten yards so that there's no run
- 20:32Speaker 5: up to the play, but the only person that's outside
- 20:35Speaker 5: the strike zone is the returner. And it's worked in
- 20:40Speaker 5: the in the spring leagues, and they've actually produced, you know,
- 20:43Speaker 5: some good returns, but also you know, it's made it
- 20:46Speaker 5: much safer.
- 20:47Speaker 3: So it to me, I think there's an opportunity for
- 20:51Speaker 3: more runbacks with this because.
- 20:52Speaker 5: If you get past that initial wave initial wave.
- 20:56Speaker 4: It's opens a lot harder to kind of maintain leverage
- 20:58Speaker 4: when you're not running down the whole you know, you
- 21:00Speaker 4: can really.
- 21:01Speaker 3: It's just you and the kick.
- 21:02Speaker 5: Yeah, it's fun. What it was happening obviously was that
- 21:06Speaker 5: you know, there was strategy that they were starting to
- 21:08Speaker 5: like have guys like swoop around and you know, like
- 21:11Speaker 5: find different you hang back, will go, you know sort
- 21:14Speaker 5: of thing. So you know, there becomes a whole nother
- 21:17Speaker 5: layer of all, how to Freend's point, we can't just
- 21:19Speaker 5: have all eleven guys right at the point of attack
- 21:22Speaker 5: just like kind of drop back.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Even then yeah, yeah, Springer will have some some fun maybe,
- 21:26Speaker 4: But I think the I was kind of glad to
- 21:29Speaker 4: see the NFLPA came out like unequivocally against this hip
- 21:32Speaker 4: drop tackle thing that they're talking about, which you know,
- 21:34Speaker 4: I just I feel like there are certain so.
- 21:36Speaker 3: They came out against banning it.
- 21:38Speaker 4: Or against against it, like they don't want to rule
- 21:41Speaker 4: against it, they just want to they're all for safety.
- 21:44Speaker 3: But I just, I mean I think that there are
- 21:46Speaker 3: like it's going to be so hard to tackle, so
- 21:48Speaker 3: like I mean, and it's.
- 21:49Speaker 4: There's got to be just an easy example of a
- 21:51Speaker 4: guy that you don't quite have and you kind of
- 21:54Speaker 4: have to dive at him and grab his waist like that,
- 21:57Speaker 4: you know what I mean, Like he's got a little
- 21:58Speaker 4: bit of an angle on you, but you are able
- 22:00Speaker 4: to at least get your hands on his waist.
- 22:02Speaker 5: It's like, are you do you just not try to
- 22:04Speaker 5: tackle him then?
- 22:04Speaker 4: Like I just, I mean, everybody's for safety, and I
- 22:07Speaker 4: mean we witnessed Gronk in twenty eleven. That was that
- 22:11Speaker 4: was this, I mean, that was the hip drop that
- 22:12Speaker 4: that kind of knocked him out of the super Bowl.
- 22:14Speaker 4: You know, we played, but I even Andre Andre It's
- 22:18Speaker 4: it's I mean, it's it's a hard one. But I
- 22:20Speaker 4: just don't see how you can consistently, consistently legislate.
- 22:23Speaker 3: If everyone on the field was the same size, it
- 22:25Speaker 3: would be different. But you know, sometimes you've got you know,
- 22:29Speaker 3: a small safety trying to you know, tackle a running
- 22:32Speaker 3: back who's broke loose, or you know, a six to
- 22:34Speaker 3: four receiver or a tight end. You know, so like
- 22:39Speaker 3: you can't do it, you're gonna you're gonna end up
- 22:41Speaker 3: maybe causing more injury because guys are gonna be in
- 22:44Speaker 3: bad positions trying to make tackles.
- 22:46Speaker 5: I believe I remember, and I could be wrong, but
- 22:48Speaker 5: I believe I.
- 22:48Speaker 4: Remember Gronk talking afterwards about how what what the ball
- 22:52Speaker 4: carrier can do to avoid that kind of injury when
- 22:55Speaker 4: you know a guy is about to wrap you up
- 22:57Speaker 4: around the waist. And I forget what he said exactly,
- 23:00Speaker 4: but I mean, you know, I don't want to put
- 23:01Speaker 4: it on the ball carrier to avoid injuring himself. But
- 23:04Speaker 4: I do think that it's you know, something that needs
- 23:06Speaker 4: to be taught to avoid it as well. But yeah,
- 23:08Speaker 4: we'll see what what happens down there in Orlando.
- 23:10Speaker 5: It's tough because this is the hip drop tackle is
- 23:14Speaker 5: a development of the way they want you to tack
- 23:16Speaker 5: it their head right, It's the Seahawks tackling method to
- 23:19Speaker 5: get your head out of the tackle, which is the
- 23:21Speaker 5: whole head's up tackling. Like that's all the way down
- 23:24Speaker 5: to like Pop Warner little league football, and they get
- 23:26Speaker 5: that from rugby, right, and now because of that's the
- 23:29Speaker 5: technique it the next iteration is the hip drove tackle
- 23:33Speaker 5: and that it sort of was birth because of this,
- 23:35Speaker 5: and it's like, well, which one do you want? Do
- 23:37Speaker 5: you want us to you know, keep our head out
- 23:40Speaker 5: of it and tackle safer with you know, that technique
- 23:43Speaker 5: and then not hip draw tackles. Now, to Mike's point,
- 23:46Speaker 5: there's one way to tackle and if you can't do
- 23:49Speaker 5: it that way, and then I guess it's a touchdown play.
- 23:51Speaker 5: You just see guys pull up and be like I can't.
- 23:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I get the horse collar. But do
- 23:57Speaker 3: we have a lot of examples of these hip drops
- 23:59Speaker 3: causing injuries?
- 24:00Speaker 5: Like I don't remember, like so last year was really bad.
- 24:03Speaker 3: Like what kind of injury does it cause?
- 24:05Speaker 5: Usually the ankle or like leg injuries.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Okay, so it's like a sudden stop.
- 24:11Speaker 5: Because it's your dead weight falls on the guy's legs.
- 24:14Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, it falls on the legs.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Yeah. So Mark Andrews got knocked out with it. Remandre
- 24:21Speaker 5: obviously got knocked out with it. But there's there's quite
- 24:24Speaker 5: a few of them. Last last year in particular, it
- 24:26Speaker 5: happened to be a spike.
- 24:27Speaker 4: There's a couple of still shots of Bernard Pollard, like
- 24:30Speaker 4: in the eleven As Championship, just going, you know, you
- 24:33Speaker 4: can see him going right into Gronk's legs.
- 24:35Speaker 3: No I know, but like if you remember that play,
- 24:38Speaker 3: Gronk was like he was kind of hanging on and
- 24:41Speaker 3: Gronk was still going and then finally he got enough
- 24:44Speaker 3: leverage to bring him down. Like, I don't think it
- 24:48Speaker 3: was technique that hurt Gronk, it was just you know
- 24:50Speaker 3: that Gronk was hard to bring back.
- 24:52Speaker 4: It's exactly what you were saying earlier with the giant
- 24:54Speaker 4: Gronk trying. You know, even not a small guy but
- 24:57Speaker 4: has a has a knack for going into people's knees.
- 24:59Speaker 3: So maybe the you know, the runner or the ball
- 25:01Speaker 3: carrier has to be taught. Listen, when you're wrapped up,
- 25:04Speaker 3: just just go down, you know it's over.
- 25:06Speaker 4: I mean, I could be wrong, but I want to
- 25:08Speaker 4: say it was something like high stepping, like you have
- 25:10Speaker 4: to kind of high step once guy gets you by
- 25:12Speaker 4: the waist, you kind of I don't know, I forget
- 25:15Speaker 4: exactly get your legs out.
- 25:16Speaker 3: From under you or something like that. I don't know anyway, Okay,
- 25:20Speaker 3: eight five five pats five hundred day stick a hotline
- 25:22Speaker 3: web radio at pitches dot com.
- 25:24Speaker 4: No Paul today, So he's probably about he's he's about
- 25:28Speaker 4: two beers in now, I would say two bud lights.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Yeah, ish, So he's there's no fan fights going on.
- 25:35Speaker 9: We should have to make videos like before the day
- 25:37Speaker 9: starts and then at the end of the day check
- 25:39Speaker 9: dilly dilly.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I love I love how he's picking a fight with
- 25:43Speaker 3: the fans now, like they're not going to be good,
- 25:46Speaker 3: you know, so stop saying that they're gonna be good.
- 25:48Speaker 3: You know, he's gonna be the you know, the truth
- 25:51Speaker 3: teller when it comes to like the expectations of the team.
- 25:54Speaker 3: I haven't heard like there might be some people in
- 25:57Speaker 3: the radio like Yahoo's. But I haven't heard a lot
- 25:59Speaker 3: of people say Patriots are going all the way this year.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I've rarely heard people saying that they think they're going
- 26:04Speaker 3: to make the playoffs. I don't know who he's fighting with.
- 26:07Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I I just think there's that's reasonable.
- 26:10Speaker 3: I mean, it could happen.
- 26:11Speaker 5: Was this on two to six yesterday?
- 26:12Speaker 3: No, it was like on our show, I'm hoping it happens,
- 26:15Speaker 3: but like, realistically, we've got some work to do, right,
- 26:18Speaker 3: Maybe think maybe everything pops this year. We get a
- 26:22Speaker 3: quarterback at three, he starts right away and he's like
- 26:25Speaker 3: c J. Stroud, maybe all that can happen. But you know,
- 26:29Speaker 3: it's I think most people, and I'm talking about fans,
- 26:31Speaker 3: are being realistic about this.
- 26:33Speaker 5: I think it's your thing. Fred.
- 26:34Speaker 4: You've said many times, if like, I just want to
- 26:36Speaker 4: hope this year, I want to you know, I want
- 26:38Speaker 4: to see a scrappy team that's playing really hard for
- 26:40Speaker 4: their coach. You know, maybe they pull out a couple wins.
- 26:42Speaker 4: But I mean, you talk about two to six yester year.
- 26:44Speaker 4: I mean, I think Bard's been kind of saying, like,
- 26:46Speaker 4: you know, this is gonna take some time. And you know,
- 26:49Speaker 4: I understand, you know, Felger's point of like why why
- 26:52Speaker 4: you know, But there's also a big part of me
- 26:54Speaker 4: that says, what, what's the best case, what's the ceiling
- 26:58Speaker 4: for this team if they not.
- 26:59Speaker 5: Free agent see out of the park? Is it really
- 27:01Speaker 5: that much?
- 27:02Speaker 4: Like you make the playoffs and then you'll lose to
- 27:05Speaker 4: Josh Allen, you lose to Patrick Mahomes.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Like they got work to do.
- 27:08Speaker 3: To get to that point where they can get over
- 27:09Speaker 3: the part of the genesis of this is like there's
- 27:12Speaker 3: some people I think Mike Bidar might be one of
- 27:14Speaker 3: them saying they last year they were really a six
- 27:17Speaker 3: to seven win team, And I understand like why he's
- 27:21Speaker 3: saying it, But Parcel said, you are what your record are.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Is the reason why you weren't a six or seven
- 27:29Speaker 3: because you made mistakes at critical times and that's what
- 27:32Speaker 3: a four win team does. So that's who you were.
- 27:35Speaker 3: You were a four team win team, you know, four
- 27:38Speaker 3: one team. So you can't avoid that, you know, like
- 27:41Speaker 3: if they didn't make those mistakes, if they didn't make
- 27:44Speaker 3: those critical turnovers, maybe they would have won six or seven.
- 27:47Speaker 3: But you can't play that game, you know.
- 27:49Speaker 4: I think that's a huge part of it that you know,
- 27:51Speaker 4: untimely mistakes inability to be clutched. But I also just
- 27:54Speaker 4: think that this offense was so and napped last year
- 27:56Speaker 4: on maybe not a historic level, but as far as
- 27:59Speaker 4: the league last.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Year, like for Patriots, it was pretty historical great point.
- 28:03Speaker 5: So you know, like that I can't ignore that that,
- 28:06Speaker 5: you know, are they better right now?
- 28:07Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't know. They might be better right now. Actually,
- 28:10Speaker 4: like even with the holes that they still clearly have.
- 28:13Speaker 4: I mean, I'm not going to say they are better
- 28:14Speaker 4: and it's going great, like they got real holes to fill,
- 28:17Speaker 4: but that that offense last.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Year was remember coming off the year before we went
- 28:22Speaker 3: into last year, Bill O'Brien's here, that alone is going
- 28:26Speaker 3: to make this offense better and it didn't noble, So you.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Don't know, to get worse.
- 28:30Speaker 4: And I mean that's one of the great questions I
- 28:32Speaker 4: thought coming out of last season that you know, we
- 28:34Speaker 4: had that debate sporadically throughout the year of why are
- 28:37Speaker 4: they worse this year?
- 28:38Speaker 5: It's kind of the same.
- 28:39Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's the same personnel, if not better.
- 28:42Speaker 4: It's certainly an offensive coordinator that that should be better.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Than what we were, you know, spent the whole year
- 28:46Speaker 4: railing on Matt Patricia, you know, and everybody thought that
- 28:49Speaker 4: when they hired Bill O'Brien that he would at least
- 28:51Speaker 4: get them to a level that was service competency.
- 28:53Speaker 5: And he didn't.
- 28:54Speaker 4: And there and there were so many issues and reasons
- 28:56Speaker 4: why that it wasn't you know, Oh, they were just
- 28:59Speaker 4: a bad off. Like they were not only bad, but
- 29:01Speaker 4: like you said, they were like timely bad, like timely bad,
- 29:05Speaker 4: like we really can't afford and we're gonna win right
- 29:07Speaker 4: here mac Jones' interception against the Colt, you know, like
- 29:10Speaker 4: those plays that were just like completely take the win
- 29:13Speaker 4: out of the city.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Well, whoever the quarterback is, he's going to be better
- 29:15Speaker 3: than mac Jones. Okay, it's possible maybe, but like Jacoby Si,
- 29:19Speaker 3: he's gonna be better than mac Jones was his rookie
- 29:21Speaker 3: year or is he going to be better than mac
- 29:23Speaker 3: Jones was his third year?
- 29:25Speaker 5: Yeah, So I just like I look at Max's rookie year,
- 29:29Speaker 5: and they drafted a quarterback in the first round, and
- 29:30Speaker 5: they spent two hundred and fifty million guaranteed in free agency,
- 29:34Speaker 5: and they improved by three wins they were a seven
- 29:37Speaker 5: win team the year before, and then they were a
- 29:39Speaker 5: ten win team the next year and out in the
- 29:41Speaker 5: playoffs and on wild card round. So in this year,
- 29:45Speaker 5: so you went, if you went and did the same
- 29:47Speaker 5: exact ding quarterback in the first round and went crazy
- 29:50Speaker 5: nuts in free agency, you'd go from a four win
- 29:52Speaker 5: team to a seven win team, right, And it's to
- 29:55Speaker 5: what end, you know, because what we learned is that
- 29:58Speaker 5: it doesn't go up like that was the first bump
- 30:01Speaker 5: the ceiling. The ceiling was twenty twenty one. It wasn't
- 30:04Speaker 5: you know, the next two years. So that free agency
- 30:07Speaker 5: class is going to give you that shot in the
- 30:09Speaker 5: arm instantly right away. But you're then so now you're
- 30:12Speaker 5: a seven win team and then what you know? And
- 30:14Speaker 5: I think that you hope that the quarterback would be
- 30:17Speaker 5: better and so he will keep developing and he will
- 30:19Speaker 5: you know, continue the ball forward. But I think these
- 30:22Speaker 5: people that wanted them to be more aggressive in free
- 30:25Speaker 5: agency are are just looking at a little bit short sightedly,
- 30:28Speaker 5: like they just okay, so they would have been maybe
- 30:30Speaker 5: a more competitive twenty twenty four roster.
- 30:33Speaker 9: Yeah, people want them to make like these win now
- 30:36Speaker 9: moves in these big splashes and it's like.
- 30:38Speaker 4: I mean, and I get it, like like that Spring
- 30:41Speaker 4: of twenty twenty one, it was it was really fun
- 30:43Speaker 4: when they were signing those guys, and it was like
- 30:45Speaker 4: signing after signing, you're like, oh my gosh, I can't
- 30:47Speaker 4: even we got Hunter Henry and John Usmith. I mean,
- 30:49Speaker 4: it sounds kind of silly now to say it that way,
- 30:51Speaker 4: but that's how it felt at the time. So I like,
- 30:53Speaker 4: I don't, you know, fault the fans from wanting they
- 30:55Speaker 4: have that excitement, but.
- 30:57Speaker 9: Learn from which it's like, yeah, okay, we made these
- 31:00Speaker 9: win now moves, but it's like we had one foot
- 31:02Speaker 9: in that pool and the other on the sand of
- 31:04Speaker 9: a rebuild and a young core, and we.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Can all agree that maybe they wouldn't even won four
- 31:09Speaker 3: games if it wasn't for the defense. And I do
- 31:12Speaker 3: worry without Bill, how they're gonna be able to scheme
- 31:17Speaker 3: and match up the way they did last year. I'm
- 31:19Speaker 3: hoping maybe you know, via Brian Bill, you know, you know,
- 31:24Speaker 3: emails in the game plan and I'm only kidding, but
- 31:27Speaker 3: I mean, let's face it, I'm sure that Bill was
- 31:33Speaker 3: a big part of how good that defense was and
- 31:35Speaker 3: the points that they were allowing and and hopefully you
- 31:40Speaker 3: know that will remain, you know, that edge on defense
- 31:44Speaker 3: will remain, but it's it's still wait and see. We
- 31:47Speaker 3: don't know.
- 31:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I think there are some things that I'm hopeful
- 31:50Speaker 5: that maybe they will evolve defensively, and they're not. They
- 31:53Speaker 5: were not evolving defensively. It's for all the falls offensively,
- 31:57Speaker 5: they were a defense that was still kind of edge
- 32:00Speaker 5: to a lot of extent. But you know, they're just
- 32:02Speaker 5: certain things that I think just to handle, specially like
- 32:06Speaker 5: these offenses with all the you know, a speed offense
- 32:08Speaker 5: like Miami or a spread offense like the Bills, that
- 32:11Speaker 5: you know, maybe they do a little bit differently, like
- 32:13Speaker 5: you know, playing a little bit more zone coverage or
- 32:16Speaker 5: being a little bit more exotic in the pass rush
- 32:19Speaker 5: that maybe that allows them to evolve in that way.
- 32:22Speaker 5: But in terms of situations like this is their third
- 32:25Speaker 5: and seven package, like these are the three place this is,
- 32:28Speaker 5: this is the three things we have to do to
- 32:30Speaker 5: win this game. Like that's what everybody always says about
- 32:32Speaker 5: Bill is that he would get up there and he
- 32:33Speaker 5: would say we need to do these three things, and
- 32:36Speaker 5: nine times out of ten he was one hundred percent
- 32:38Speaker 5: on the money with all three things, and that I
- 32:40Speaker 5: think they'll definitely miss.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:41Speaker 4: I think my biggest just concern with the defense right
- 32:43Speaker 4: now is making sure there's.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Enough pass rush depth.
- 32:46Speaker 4: And you're you know, and no disrespect to Christian Barmore
- 32:49Speaker 4: and think he's awesome, he needs to be as good
- 32:51Speaker 4: as he was last year, and you need Jude On
- 32:52Speaker 4: to come back, and he needs to be as good
- 32:54Speaker 4: as he was before, and you need Ouce to go
- 32:56Speaker 4: back to that level he was at as.
- 32:57Speaker 5: A complimentary piece.
- 32:59Speaker 4: Jennings takes us that like then that's a big question mark,
- 33:02Speaker 4: Like but but does he start to bring in the
- 33:04Speaker 4: pass rush?
- 33:04Speaker 5: I mean he didn't bring much in the pass rush.
- 33:06Speaker 4: So you know those three guys like we've seen now
- 33:08Speaker 4: what is it two three seasons that's kind of their
- 33:11Speaker 4: pass rush cord, there's you know, not that young element yet.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Maybe there will be in the draft, and even if
- 33:16Speaker 4: it's like a new type that has a little bit
- 33:18Speaker 4: of a diminished value because he's only going to be
- 33:20Speaker 4: a pass rusher.
- 33:21Speaker 5: But I'm okay with that. They need some depth.
- 33:23Speaker 4: I think you don't's got some injury concerns.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Barmore.
- 33:25Speaker 4: We really believe in him and hopefully he can take
- 33:28Speaker 4: a step and off set. But really, after those three guys,
- 33:30Speaker 4: you wonder they're gonna have to scheme pressure and if
- 33:32Speaker 4: one of them goes down, it could be similar to
- 33:34Speaker 4: what happened last year.
- 33:34Speaker 3: All right, let's get to the phones. Let the listeners
- 33:37Speaker 3: get in on the action. We'll go first to Eddie
- 33:39Speaker 3: and La. What's up there?
- 33:43Speaker 5: Oh that's a new one.
- 33:44Speaker 3: I can't wait till we get on a new phone system.
- 33:47Speaker 3: So when people drop off, the line opens up. Right now,
- 33:50Speaker 3: If people it just says that, it just stays there.
- 33:53Speaker 3: It you know, it takes up the line. So all right,
- 33:57Speaker 3: enough of my pitching domination in New York sub dominic.
- 34:01Speaker 11: Hey, y'all, how you doing?
- 34:02Speaker 3: All right?
- 34:03Speaker 11: Hey don okay, So just a quick thought in questions
- 34:07Speaker 11: for y'all. But you know, the free agency period of
- 34:10Speaker 11: you know, Patriot's glad they retained talent. Obviously, no big
- 34:13Speaker 11: moves at tackle and receiver. I was, you know, Donn
- 34:18Speaker 11: just trying to get a quarterback after we've but now
- 34:20Speaker 11: more open to the idea of moving down, uh, to
- 34:23Speaker 11: just get more players that we can build around in
- 34:25Speaker 11: the future. Right, there's got to exercise patients is going
- 34:28Speaker 11: to be a three year rebuild and so on and
- 34:29Speaker 11: so forth. So my thought is, in the event that
- 34:33Speaker 11: we do, you know, trade down and get a couple
- 34:35Speaker 11: of offensive talent players like you know, we get tackled
- 34:37Speaker 11: wide receiver, so forth, at what point for is there
- 34:41Speaker 11: any thought of drafting a quarterback later That's not like
- 34:44Speaker 11: a bow Nix or Michael Pigs. I'm thinking more of
- 34:47Speaker 11: like Jordan Travis.
- 34:49Speaker 10: Oh.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I think, let's put it this way. I think even
- 34:52Speaker 3: if they drafted a quarterback at three, they could still
- 34:55Speaker 3: take another quarterback in the fifth or sixth round.
- 34:58Speaker 4: I do, yeah, I mean, I think it's always good business.
- 35:00Speaker 4: I would just say, I think when you trade down,
- 35:03Speaker 4: it's you're just looking at present this year, and it's
- 35:06Speaker 4: and there's an appeal to all right, it's Brissett, but
- 35:08Speaker 4: we know we got the left tackle of the future,
- 35:10Speaker 4: and we know we have an ad Mitchell type that
- 35:13Speaker 4: is like really dripping with talent, and so there's a
- 35:15Speaker 4: lot to get excited. But it's hard for me to
- 35:17Speaker 4: make those two picks and then say, and we got
- 35:20Speaker 4: Spencer Ratler, which is fine, Like I like that, Like,
- 35:22Speaker 4: you know, as a developmental player, it's just hard to
- 35:25Speaker 4: think you're gonna get the quarterback.
- 35:26Speaker 5: Of the future. You can't. You can't. You can't have
- 35:28Speaker 5: all three like you can.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Get two, I think, but if you get the quarterback,
- 35:32Speaker 4: it's it's but it's still hard to the quarterback at
- 35:33Speaker 4: three to even think about, how do we get that tackle,
- 35:36Speaker 4: how do we get that wide receiver.
- 35:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, it's both sides of it. Like there's
- 35:39Speaker 5: a fear that you're the Panthers with Bryce Young right now,
- 35:41Speaker 5: who is the only good player on that team and
- 35:43Speaker 5: has nothing around him and can't there's something for him
- 35:46Speaker 5: to throw to or do anything with. I mean, I
- 35:48Speaker 5: guess they have Deontay Johnson now, but in general, like
- 35:51Speaker 5: there's that fear. But then there's also the other fear
- 35:53Speaker 5: of like a team like kind of like the Atlanta
- 35:55Speaker 5: Falcons where they're in quarterback purgatory and they have Kyle
- 35:59Speaker 5: Pitts and they have Drake London and they have Bijon
- 36:01Speaker 5: and they have all this offensive talent that they drafted,
- 36:03Speaker 5: but they have nobody to throw them the ball. So
- 36:05Speaker 5: now they go out and they have to pay Kirk
- 36:07Speaker 5: Cousins forty million dollars a year when it's probably an
- 36:10Speaker 5: overpay at the end of his career. So that's what
- 36:13Speaker 5: you risk. You either risk, you know, being Bryce young
- 36:16Speaker 5: and being surrounded by nothing, or you risk being in
- 36:19Speaker 5: QB purgatory, like which one would you rather? You know,
- 36:22Speaker 5: if you're going to play the negative game, like which
- 36:24Speaker 5: one would you rather be in?
- 36:25Speaker 4: It just comes down to do you really believe in
- 36:27Speaker 4: Drake may or Jaden Daniels at three? Do you really, really,
- 36:29Speaker 4: in your heart of hearts think this guy can be
- 36:31Speaker 4: a star and lead a team for ten years?
- 36:33Speaker 5: And if you say yes, then take them. I think
- 36:36Speaker 5: that they both can, but I also think it needs
- 36:38Speaker 5: to be said that they're not franchise saviors, like this
- 36:41Speaker 5: is not Andrew Luck, Like they're not going to come
- 36:43Speaker 5: into this team and all of a sudden you're a
- 36:45Speaker 5: playoff team overnight because you have Andrew Luck as your quarterback,
- 36:49Speaker 5: which is what the Colts literally went from the worst
- 36:51Speaker 5: team in the league to a playoff team because of
- 36:52Speaker 5: Andrew Luck. That's not going to happen with this team.
- 36:55Speaker 4: But then you look at the Bills maybe, and that's
- 36:57Speaker 4: you know, Josh Allen had some rough ups and downs,
- 37:00Speaker 4: was a wild thing, and then it started to click,
- 37:03Speaker 4: and then you went and got Stefan Diggs and really
- 37:05Speaker 4: got him that complimentary piece, you know.
- 37:07Speaker 5: So, yeah, that's what we were talking about on Catch
- 37:09Speaker 5: twenty two because Barth is a Josh Allen Hayter and I,
- 37:11Speaker 5: you know, Josh Allen's my best friend. So we were
- 37:14Speaker 5: talking about that. And the more that we think about
- 37:17Speaker 5: Drake May and talk about Drake May, the more that
- 37:20Speaker 5: I think that he's his comp is Josh Allen. You know,
- 37:23Speaker 5: he's a guy that has all of these physical tools.
- 37:26Speaker 5: He's a guy that has some film that if you
- 37:28Speaker 5: stacked together his best throws from last year, it goes
- 37:32Speaker 5: up against anybody in this class, even Caleb like best
- 37:35Speaker 5: throws down the field in this class. But he has
- 37:37Speaker 5: a lot of mechanical growth that needs to be done.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Floyd and Michigan says, so many people are penciling in
- 37:43Speaker 3: Drake May to the Patriots, but I believe this is premature.
- 37:47Speaker 3: Right after the combine, Jeff Howe believed May would go
- 37:50Speaker 3: number two to the Commanders and then Jade and Daniels
- 37:52Speaker 3: would go three to the Patriots. Daniel Jeremiah recently May
- 37:56Speaker 3: number two, Jade number three, Joel Klatt recently made number
- 37:59Speaker 3: two Jade number three. I don't see the Commanders passing
- 38:02Speaker 3: on a twenty one year old May with that size,
- 38:05Speaker 3: athleticism and armstring. Plus a report came out that Commander
- 38:08Speaker 3: GM and Peters is into Drake May.
- 38:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I would be careful about those reports. It's smoke
- 38:14Speaker 5: screen season, so everybody's into everybody. But I in general
- 38:17Speaker 5: I agree that. I mean, I have Drake May as
- 38:20Speaker 5: the second best quarterback in the class. I think a
- 38:22Speaker 5: lot of people do. So why we think the Commanders
- 38:24Speaker 5: are going to skip.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Over him is really more like Kingsbury, right, Yes, Kingsbury
- 38:28Speaker 4: appeal of a.
- 38:29Speaker 5: Super mobile because Kingsbury's had Kyler, He's had, you know,
- 38:33Speaker 5: more of an athlete at that position in the past,
- 38:35Speaker 5: So maybe that's what he thinks. But I agree with
- 38:38Speaker 5: the emailer whan, there's no guarantee we're gonna be holding
- 38:40Speaker 5: our breath on that second pas.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Let's see Peter's in London.
- 38:43Speaker 5: Hey Peter, Hi?
- 38:45Speaker 10: Everyone good?
- 38:47Speaker 5: Good.
- 38:49Speaker 12: So I'm a Texas season to get holder, So I
- 38:53Speaker 12: wanted to just call in and give my two cents
- 38:55Speaker 12: on those Texas receivers you guys been talking about.
- 38:58Speaker 3: You live in London. But you're a Texas. Wow.
- 39:01Speaker 12: That's a I live in Houston back in the days
- 39:07Speaker 12: in London.
- 39:08Speaker 2: He must have a great.
- 39:11Speaker 5: Stereotyped him the accent.
- 39:13Speaker 10: I'm back in London.
- 39:13Speaker 12: I'm getting married this weekend.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Congratulations.
- 39:16Speaker 5: Congratulations.
- 39:19Speaker 12: I didn't think I'd confused you guys with my life stories.
- 39:21Speaker 12: But look, I think she's from both of them, clearly athletically,
- 39:26Speaker 12: very talented, and I mean Worthy's been at UT for
- 39:30Speaker 12: longer and have a lot of love for that guy.
- 39:32Speaker 12: But for me, he just doesn't kind of come up
- 39:34Speaker 12: big in those, you know, clutch moments when we need them.
- 39:39Speaker 12: And I just don't feel like if you're drafting someone
- 39:41Speaker 12: that high, you know you want a number one receiver
- 39:43Speaker 12: who when you've got to have it, he's the guy
- 39:45Speaker 12: you're going to go to. And for me, I just
- 39:47Speaker 12: don't think Worthy really has that, whereas I think Mitchell
- 39:50Speaker 12: is the opposite. Mitchell is the guy who came up
- 39:52Speaker 12: big in big games, who caught huge, huge patch passes
- 39:56Speaker 12: against Alabama, a huge passing against TCU to win us
- 39:59Speaker 12: those games. If I was looking at one of them,
- 40:02Speaker 12: I'd probably stay more towards Mitchell than I was towards
- 40:04Speaker 12: Worthy just for that almost intangible, big moment aspect.
- 40:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think that that's not necessarily because
- 40:13Speaker 5: of that, but just in general, the most rankings that
- 40:16Speaker 5: you see have Adie Mitchell slightly ahead of of Worthy
- 40:19Speaker 5: just because of the body type. You know, Worthy one
- 40:21Speaker 5: hundred and seventy pounds, so that Mitchell is much more
- 40:24Speaker 5: of that prototype six two two five still runs in
- 40:28Speaker 5: the four threes. But to you know, Peer's point eighty,
- 40:31Speaker 5: Mitchell transferred from Georgia. So he was at Georgia for
- 40:34Speaker 5: a couple of years and then he went to Texas
- 40:37Speaker 5: this past season. And at Georgia he had a tough
- 40:41Speaker 5: time kind of cracking their lineup and getting you know,
- 40:45Speaker 5: producing and putting up stats and stuff like that. And
- 40:47Speaker 5: he had a good season last year at Texas. But
- 40:49Speaker 5: like the one good game that he had at Georgia
- 40:51Speaker 5: was against Christian Gonzales in Oregon in Week one of
- 40:54Speaker 5: last year. It's like his one good performance at Georgia.
- 40:58Speaker 5: So the talent is obvious. Definitely waxed them, didn't they.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we all talked about that one.
- 41:06Speaker 5: Yeah, that was the big one. Yeah.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, Peter, good luck with your wedding and thanks
- 41:12Speaker 3: thanks for calling in. It's always interesting, you know, no
- 41:15Speaker 3: matter what we say, there's somebody out there that you
- 41:18Speaker 3: know is either an expert on the subject or like, yeah,
- 41:21Speaker 3: an example here, he's a Texas season ticket holder.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Crazy.
- 41:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:25Speaker 4: I always love hearing from those people because they're you know,
- 41:27Speaker 4: how invested they are.
- 41:29Speaker 3: Uh, let's go to Nick and Kansas. Hey.
- 41:31Speaker 13: Nick, Hey, uh, first time caller.
- 41:36Speaker 5: All right, thank you.
- 41:37Speaker 13: Honestly, I uh, I don't know why everybody's so upset
- 41:42Speaker 13: about what Elliott Wolf is doing this off season. I
- 41:45Speaker 13: think he's doing a pretty good job for being our
- 41:49Speaker 13: GM this year. That being said, I think you take
- 41:54Speaker 13: may three tackle second round and then either trade back
- 41:58Speaker 13: up into the second round or take a third round receiver,
- 42:03Speaker 13: and then in twenty twenty five you can start to
- 42:06Speaker 13: focus on getting that true number one piece with the
- 42:10Speaker 13: receiver we draft this year, being more of kind of
- 42:13Speaker 13: a not necessarily an all round receiver, but more of
- 42:18Speaker 13: a role guy. Try to build out that wide receiver depth,
- 42:23Speaker 13: and I wouldn't mind kind of a late round double
- 42:24Speaker 13: dip the wide receiver double dip but tackle. But yeah,
- 42:29Speaker 13: that's kind of what I think we should do. And
- 42:31Speaker 13: I'm not really sure why everybody on Twitter and everybody
- 42:35Speaker 13: you know, emailing, calling in or whatever is kind of
- 42:37Speaker 13: upset at what Elliott Wolf has been doing. Well, I
- 42:40Speaker 13: think take it off.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Okay, thanks Nick. I mean listen, how many years have
- 42:44Speaker 3: we heard, and this is when Bill was here, pitchers
- 42:47Speaker 3: aren't doing anything in free agency and you have the
- 42:50Speaker 3: the little meme of the stick figure with stick poking something. Yeah,
- 42:54Speaker 3: do something. You know, it's we we hear that every
- 42:57Speaker 3: year except for maybe a few, you know, two years,
- 42:59Speaker 3: you know, three years ago was one of the ones.
- 43:02Speaker 2: Every year since Twitter came on, right, because it's just
- 43:04Speaker 2: it's just Twitter narratives.
- 43:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 43:06Speaker 4: I think what excites me though, is if they can
- 43:09Speaker 4: get to the point where they draft well and the model,
- 43:11Speaker 4: you know, if we are to believe they're going to
- 43:13Speaker 4: follow the packer away. So I mean I don't really
- 43:15Speaker 4: put you know, that credence into that. I mean, there's
- 43:17Speaker 4: that's just how good teams are developed, is you draft well,
- 43:20Speaker 4: if you develop those players and you keep those players.
- 43:22Speaker 4: And what I think has been kind of hard for
- 43:24Speaker 4: me as a fan, you know, even before I worked here,
- 43:26Speaker 4: was that you felt hard to get attached to guys
- 43:29Speaker 4: like they would draft.
- 43:30Speaker 5: Guys then you'd be like, Oh, he's awesome, and then
- 43:32Speaker 5: they just let him go.
- 43:33Speaker 4: And you know, like Chandler Jones, like you know, those
- 43:36Speaker 4: kind of players, Jamie Collins even you know, like you're disappointing.
- 43:39Speaker 5: Oh, High Towers.
- 43:40Speaker 4: They're letting High Tower meet with the Steelers?
- 43:42Speaker 5: Are you kidding me?
- 43:43Speaker 10: Like?
- 43:43Speaker 5: This is our guy?
- 43:44Speaker 4: And and I don't think that that's going to be
- 43:46Speaker 4: part of the model. If they're able to hit on
- 43:47Speaker 4: these draft picks, I will feel good about. They're going
- 43:50Speaker 4: to make every effort to continue to try to extend
- 43:52Speaker 4: those guys, and I hope.
- 43:53Speaker 5: That that's what they're able to establish. That's how you
- 43:56Speaker 5: get out of this.
- 43:56Speaker 4: You're not going to get out of this purgatory with one,
- 44:00Speaker 4: you know, one session of over spending and free agency
- 44:02Speaker 4: that all said. I mean, I just again, it's appealing
- 44:05Speaker 4: that they went and made that offer to Calvin Ridley,
- 44:07Speaker 4: and I think that sends a good message that they
- 44:09Speaker 4: know they have to supplement this.
- 44:11Speaker 5: They didn't hit on him.
- 44:12Speaker 4: It's okay for us to be disappointed about that.
- 44:14Speaker 5: I'm sure they're disappointed about it too, But that's the.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Breaks, you know, you have to try, and as you
- 44:19Speaker 4: slowly start to build things, then that puts you over
- 44:21Speaker 4: at the top, and then you're able to land these
- 44:22Speaker 4: guys because they.
- 44:23Speaker 2: Want to know if you build it, they will come.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Yeah, you know a lot of people, Tyrant Smith. But
- 44:26Speaker 3: these guys are signing like one year deals, you know.
- 44:29Speaker 3: I think the Patriots are thinking a little bit beyond that,
- 44:32Speaker 3: you know, And I'm just wondering, like this, about five
- 44:34Speaker 3: weeks left before the draft, so this is still time.
- 44:38Speaker 3: What if like all of a sudden, the Patriots trade
- 44:41Speaker 3: one of our better players.
- 44:43Speaker 5: For more draft picks, you know, like like a Matthew Dudon.
- 44:46Speaker 3: Or something like that. You know better, Like now all
- 44:49Speaker 3: of a sudden, you're like, oh, okay, you know, now
- 44:52Speaker 3: we see how what they're thinking. They're thinking long term here.
- 44:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that's why you can't as much as
- 44:58Speaker 5: we all do it in all, well, the patience thing
- 45:01Speaker 5: is tough to do. You can't judge an off season
- 45:03Speaker 5: until after the draft, and then you can't judge the
- 45:06Speaker 5: draft until two years later, right, so like it really
- 45:08Speaker 5: in reality or you know, you can't judge the moves
- 45:11Speaker 5: that they've made this offseason because we'll all look like
- 45:14Speaker 5: idiots if they get to the draft and then they
- 45:17Speaker 5: draft Drake May and then trade thirty four for t
- 45:19Speaker 5: Higgins and then they draft a left tackle and then
- 45:21Speaker 5: all of a sudden, it's like, oh, remember in March
- 45:23Speaker 5: when we were all screaming and yelling about how they
- 45:25Speaker 5: did nothing. So for us, I feel like we try
- 45:27Speaker 5: to look at it and say, all right, it's a
- 45:29Speaker 5: it's a whole thing. You know, the draft is part
- 45:31Speaker 5: of it, and we're gonna have to you know, come
- 45:33Speaker 5: May whatever after the draft. If this is the team
- 45:37Speaker 5: and they're just kind of adding okay pieces in the draft,
- 45:40Speaker 5: but it's like Drake May and Ricky Piersall and some
- 45:44Speaker 5: tackle prospect in the third round, and yeah, I'm probably
- 45:47Speaker 5: gonna look at it and be like, like, this was
- 45:48Speaker 5: not a you know, this didn't really do much for me,
- 45:52Speaker 5: But who knows, it could be much better than that.
- 45:54Speaker 3: Yep, Chris with a T. I an, what's up, Christian?
- 45:59Speaker 10: Hey, Buddy doing doing good? Pretty good, Freddy, good job
- 46:04Speaker 10: on the Dynasty Recap Talk. I really enjoyed its podcast.
- 46:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope that, like we we were pretty level
- 46:12Speaker 3: headed about it. Did you did we drop the one
- 46:15Speaker 3: with the director and the producer.
- 46:17Speaker 4: And I think it's coming today.
- 46:19Speaker 3: I was coming today. So there's one more Christian where
- 46:21Speaker 3: we had both of them in studio at the same time.
- 46:25Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm looking forward to that.
- 46:26Speaker 5: Patriots have reportedly sound.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Yeah what's that?
- 46:31Speaker 4: Matt said, We're gonna play a snippet of that with
- 46:33Speaker 4: with you guys talking.
- 46:33Speaker 5: We did, we did, Okay, we don't need we have
- 46:35Speaker 5: some breaking. We don't need to.
- 46:38Speaker 4: It's a big one.
- 46:38Speaker 3: I know.
- 46:39Speaker 5: It's a it's a safety. Jalen Hawkins on a one
- 46:41Speaker 5: year deal. Oh yeah, a little uh safety, another box safety.
- 46:45Speaker 5: Hawks can never have too many of those.
- 46:50Speaker 10: I just want to kind of piggyback on what people
- 46:53Speaker 10: have been saying about building the team, and uh, I
- 47:00Speaker 10: know what's going to take a couple of years. So
- 47:02Speaker 10: I'm not necessarily like disappointed in this offseason, you know,
- 47:08Speaker 10: I think they're building towards something. That being said, if
- 47:12Speaker 10: they have another four or five win season, obviously that's
- 47:17Speaker 10: a problem. They just they need to be trending upward.
- 47:20Speaker 5: And well, how would you measure trending up Yeah, so
- 47:23Speaker 5: what if the four and five seas?
- 47:25Speaker 3: What if they win four or five games? But Drake
- 47:27Speaker 3: may really looks like he's got a future.
- 47:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:34Speaker 10: Well, I mean, okay, so like you're thinking like Troy
- 47:38Speaker 10: Aikman or Peyton Manning's rookie year.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Well yeah, yeah, right that.
- 47:44Speaker 10: You know piece, they had struggled, but at the end
- 47:47Speaker 10: they became great. Yeah, I mean it depends on how
- 47:51Speaker 10: it looks.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Ready, Yeah, exactly, It depends on how it looks. Yeah,
- 47:55Speaker 3: you'll know it.
- 47:55Speaker 10: When you say when it's ten to six, then no, yeah, no, right,
- 47:59Speaker 10: but yeah, and I do. And I think Paul ched
- 48:03Speaker 10: yesterday about Belichick not being there in the defense, you know,
- 48:10Speaker 10: game planning, slash matching up.
- 48:12Speaker 3: We mentioned, yeah, that's a concern. You don't lose the
- 48:17Speaker 3: greatest coach of all time and think that everything's going
- 48:20Speaker 3: to be you.
- 48:20Speaker 10: Know the same, you know, right, And yesterday I was
- 48:24Speaker 10: listening to the Felger and Greg Bdard made a comment
- 48:27Speaker 10: about how Mike McDaniel after the second Miami game this year, said, uh,
- 48:36Speaker 10: you know, go watch that tape, you know, watch how
- 48:39Speaker 10: they matched up against us. Watch the scheme. You know,
- 48:43Speaker 10: was the toughest game plan I've gone against this year. Yep,
- 48:48Speaker 10: you know he's still got it type things.
- 48:49Speaker 3: Yeah, absolutely, And Girard and I'm.
- 48:56Speaker 10: Really interested to see DeMarcus Comington, you know, in that role.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Absolutely all right. I mean I think they're still a
- 49:05Speaker 3: Thanks Christian.
- 49:06Speaker 5: I think they're still going to try to run that.
- 49:08Speaker 4: You know, They're still going to try to be a
- 49:09Speaker 4: game plan defense, and they're they're going to try to
- 49:11Speaker 4: throw curveballs every week. And I think one of my
- 49:14Speaker 4: this is probably a little bit off off topic, but
- 49:16Speaker 4: my question too, I'd love to ask just Elliott wolf
- 49:19Speaker 4: trol Meo is just when you're one of those defenses
- 49:22Speaker 4: that wants to adjust every week, Like how do you
- 49:25Speaker 4: know you have the right pieces.
- 49:26Speaker 5: To do things?
- 49:27Speaker 4: You know, like that you have enough that you're covering
- 49:29Speaker 4: enough bases to be able to actually morph into different
- 49:32Speaker 4: things and not get kind of caught the bill.
- 49:35Speaker 3: That was his superpower one was watching that tape and
- 49:38Speaker 3: figuring out what that team does, how they do it,
- 49:43Speaker 3: and then whittling it down to three or four things,
- 49:46Speaker 3: and then understanding his own personnel and who can do what,
- 49:51Speaker 3: and then giving them the job to do it.
- 49:53Speaker 5: And that's it.
- 49:53Speaker 2: That's like it's like in The Dynasty that last episode
- 49:56Speaker 2: with the Rams.
- 49:57Speaker 9: Yeah, like yeah, we're playing zone and we're going to
- 49:59Speaker 9: learn zone and one week and it's gonna work out.
- 50:03Speaker 3: And I'll bet you on that week it wasn't like
- 50:06Speaker 3: guys drinking out of a fire hose. I'll bet you
- 50:09Speaker 3: he simplified it. And you know, I always go back
- 50:12Speaker 3: to the story in ninety six when Bill came here
- 50:14Speaker 3: as a defensive assistant with Parcels and we were at
- 50:18Speaker 3: Bryant College and you know, Bill had been here for
- 50:20Speaker 3: like two or three weeks, and Lawyer Malloy said, he's
- 50:23Speaker 3: a genius. He makes it so simple, he makes it
- 50:26Speaker 3: easy to understand. Yeah, I think that that is one
- 50:30Speaker 3: of his greatest powers.
- 50:31Speaker 5: Yeah, the I didn't see the part of the Dynasty,
- 50:34Speaker 5: but I covered it, so I was there. And I
- 50:37Speaker 5: remember talking to the players about the AFC Championship game
- 50:40Speaker 5: against Kansas City. I think they were something like eighty
- 50:43Speaker 5: five percent man in that game, and they doubled Tyreek
- 50:47Speaker 5: Hill and they were man to man across the board
- 50:49Speaker 5: on everybody else. And then in the Super Bowl they
- 50:51Speaker 5: played not just zone, they played quarters. Like they went
- 50:55Speaker 5: from a post safety team with man to man coverage
- 50:57Speaker 5: to a split safety team and they played quarters. And
- 51:00Speaker 5: then you know, like three three buzz structures as well.
- 51:04Speaker 5: But they went from like one side of the coin
- 51:06Speaker 5: to the totally opposite side of the spectrum in two weeks,
- 51:09Speaker 5: Like it couldn't have been polar opposite. And the play
- 51:13Speaker 5: that Jason mccordy made is just the fact that they
- 51:19Speaker 5: went from where Manton man in the AFC Championship Game
- 51:22Speaker 5: to replacing the post and the biggest moment of the
- 51:26Speaker 5: Super Bowl is just I have no idea how he
- 51:29Speaker 5: got there, Like I have no idea how he was there.
- 51:31Speaker 5: I have no idea how they did that. And those
- 51:33Speaker 5: were the types of things that you know, as much
- 51:36Speaker 5: as this Dynasty doc like Ragazon Bills at times like
- 51:39Speaker 5: that was what I wish it's not so much about
- 51:42Speaker 5: like the America's Game stuff of like on this play.
- 51:44Speaker 3: We did this.
- 51:45Speaker 5: It's like that was the type of stuff that he
- 51:48Speaker 5: was able to coach, and they just had such a
- 51:51Speaker 5: wide variety of things that they could do that they
- 51:54Speaker 5: could just pull from this library of plays every single
- 51:58Speaker 5: week and just oh, remember we did this in training camp,
- 52:01Speaker 5: and we're going to do that this week. And we
- 52:02Speaker 5: did this in training camp, We're going to do that
- 52:04Speaker 5: that week. Like that was the difference in a lot
- 52:06Speaker 5: of those, this.
- 52:07Speaker 4: Is where Paul would go, Well, the throw was late
- 52:08Speaker 4: and coach dropped it.
- 52:11Speaker 5: Okay, I don't know how that changes anything, but it
- 52:14Speaker 5: makes no water.
- 52:15Speaker 3: But you know, it's one thing to go in and
- 52:18Speaker 3: make that change up. But somebody has to teach it.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Somebody has to explain it to the players in a
- 52:23Speaker 3: way that in two weeks, whether they did it in
- 52:27Speaker 3: you know, training camp or not, in two weeks, they
- 52:29Speaker 3: have to understand it.
- 52:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:31Speaker 4: The great example too in Bill's football life with the
- 52:34Speaker 4: Jets game and he I mean they literally show you exactly.
- 52:37Speaker 4: I mean, I think it was like any takeaway Keller
- 52:40Speaker 4: when he's under center at the tight end Dustin Keller.
- 52:43Speaker 4: There are a couple other ones, but you know it
- 52:45Speaker 4: shows him pregame in the meeting, laying out the things,
- 52:48Speaker 4: and then they go to the game and you see
- 52:50Speaker 4: all those things actually happening. And they ended up losing
- 52:53Speaker 4: the game, but it was just, you know, perfectly illustrated
- 52:55Speaker 4: what we're talking about, where he gives you three specific things.
- 52:57Speaker 4: I mean that specific when he's under center. We got
- 53:00Speaker 4: to take Keller away, and there's Keller, you know, getting
- 53:02Speaker 4: a touchdown off a play action pass.
- 53:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I've heard too many players say he would tell
- 53:06Speaker 3: us what's gonna happen, and it what happened.
- 53:08Speaker 2: Jabriel said that this year.
- 53:09Speaker 9: I remember after one of the losses when it was
- 53:11Speaker 9: just like a dejected locker room.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Jabriel was like, this is not on coach.
- 53:16Speaker 9: I'm actually really annoyed that this is even a narrative
- 53:18Speaker 9: because every week he tells us exactly what's going to happen,
- 53:21Speaker 9: and we don't execute, and that's exactly what happened.
- 53:23Speaker 5: Right, right, and that's what they're gonna miss.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:25Speaker 5: I remember Cam Newton saying he had a crystal ball,
- 53:28Speaker 5: like he thought it was like, this guy's got a
- 53:30Speaker 5: crystal ball and he just comes into and tells me
- 53:32Speaker 5: everything that's going to happen in the game, and that's
- 53:34Speaker 5: exactly what happens.
- 53:35Speaker 3: Well, you know, every time, everyone compares it to chess,
- 53:38Speaker 3: and a lot of it is reps. So if you
- 53:42Speaker 3: have played chess all your life, you've pretty much seen
- 53:46Speaker 3: every configuration that could happen after every move, and so
- 53:51Speaker 3: you've seen.
- 53:52Speaker 2: It all, you can anticipate what's about that, right, And that's.
- 53:55Speaker 3: What Bill he's seen it all before, because he's probably
- 53:59Speaker 3: got a photograph memory. When it comes to watching film,
- 54:02Speaker 3: his father taught taught him how to watch film and
- 54:04Speaker 3: how to scout players, understand their strengths and weaknesses, and
- 54:09Speaker 3: he brings that all to the table.
- 54:10Speaker 4: Yep, you know it's they're they're gonna miss him, I
- 54:13Speaker 4: mean for sure. And I mean it's it's kind of
- 54:15Speaker 4: going hand in hand with this narrative now with After
- 54:16Speaker 4: the Dynasty, and you have Grunk coming out and saying like,
- 54:19Speaker 4: none of this would have been possible without Bill. So
- 54:21Speaker 4: I think, you know, almost in that way the Dynasty
- 54:23Speaker 4: kind of you know, the back and forth that's been
- 54:25Speaker 4: going on it Bill have, Yeah, right, But it's I
- 54:28Speaker 4: think I think a lot of fans are just you know,
- 54:30Speaker 4: kind of appreciating that that some of these players are
- 54:32Speaker 4: just coming out and saying, look like, yeah, it was
- 54:34Speaker 4: a pain in the ass sometimes, but it would not
- 54:36Speaker 4: have happened without him as.
- 54:38Speaker 5: Much as Rodney on that podcast, Well that was interesting.
- 54:41Speaker 4: With Rodney complaining about he talked to me for six
- 54:43Speaker 4: hours and I got one line.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Well that's different though, and I know it's an editing thing.
- 54:47Speaker 3: You know, he's just complaining because he spent a lot
- 54:49Speaker 3: of time they didn't use all of it. But that's
- 54:52Speaker 3: what happens. I mean, I know, you know that they
- 54:56Speaker 3: interviewed do you know they interviewed Peyton Manning for five hours.
- 54:59Speaker 5: And didn't make it even make it.
- 55:00Speaker 2: Yeah, Kara was Kara in it. We had fan Kara
- 55:05Speaker 2: no Get interviewed too. I know she made it.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean they interviewed over seventy people and we
- 55:10Speaker 3: saw maybe.
- 55:11Speaker 5: Fifteen cutting room floor.
- 55:13Speaker 13: You know.
- 55:14Speaker 4: But it's funny how like Dante Stalwart, who you know,
- 55:17Speaker 4: certainly really good guy to listen to, but didn't have
- 55:20Speaker 4: a huge part in it, but he's you know, got
- 55:21Speaker 4: extensive time because he said the right things.
- 55:23Speaker 5: I guess. Yeah, it was just it was just it
- 55:25Speaker 5: was disappointing to me that that's the that's the narrative
- 55:30Speaker 5: coming out of the dynasty, is that it was like
- 55:32Speaker 5: this bill smear campaign and all this type of stuff,
- 55:34Speaker 5: and I just we just didn't need it, like we
- 55:37Speaker 5: didn't we didn't need it to go that way. Like
- 55:40Speaker 5: and I know, but like what was not true?
- 55:43Speaker 2: You know, Like so you know, I think it was
- 55:47Speaker 2: the balance of it.
- 55:47Speaker 3: I think I think they're talking about this dynasty and
- 55:51Speaker 3: how it broke up, well, they had to explain how
- 55:54Speaker 3: it broke up and why, you know, why did Brady leave.
- 55:58Speaker 9: Yeah, well that's why those last two episodes I think
- 56:00Speaker 9: we're the best because that was the first time you
- 56:02Speaker 9: really were hearing about what was actually going on in detail,
- 56:07Speaker 9: and the middle of it would just I mean, it
- 56:11Speaker 9: served its purpose.
- 56:11Speaker 2: I get what the point of it was.
- 56:13Speaker 3: But what you know, Paul, you know is on this soapbox,
- 56:17Speaker 3: this is all stuff we knew at the time. People
- 56:20Speaker 3: were saying there's some problems, and you know, people say,
- 56:25Speaker 3: you're just you know, unnamed sources. You don't know what
- 56:28Speaker 3: you're for all we know, it might have been even
- 56:33Speaker 3: worse than the Dynasty had, you know, probably was. I
- 56:36Speaker 3: don't know.
- 56:36Speaker 5: I just it's not so much like the way the
- 56:40Speaker 5: documentary portrayed it or not. That's the way that's it
- 56:43Speaker 5: came across, and it just it. I hated that's where
- 56:46Speaker 5: it went.
- 56:47Speaker 14: Like.
- 56:47Speaker 5: I hated that so many people are are saying that
- 56:49Speaker 5: that's what it is, to the point where Devin mccordy
- 56:52Speaker 5: and Rodney Harrison are defending Bill on podcasts.
- 56:56Speaker 3: Because they only use what they said that fit that narrative.
- 56:59Speaker 8: Right.
- 57:00Speaker 9: That's why I think if it was a little more
- 57:01Speaker 9: balance and you show more of those like more of
- 57:05Speaker 9: the brilliance, you can be like, Okay, this is like
- 57:08Speaker 9: like it's like a toxic relationship. They're hot and heavy
- 57:11Speaker 9: and hot and heavy, and then is the breakup, and
- 57:13Speaker 9: then it makes the breakup so much more interesting.
- 57:16Speaker 3: The first half like it was an ode to Bill
- 57:19Speaker 3: with the Bledsoe thing and everything like that, and then
- 57:21Speaker 3: you know, the thirteenth three game in the RAMS, I
- 57:24Speaker 3: think that was an ode to Bill as well. At
- 57:26Speaker 3: the end, you know, like people were saying, this is
- 57:30Speaker 3: you know, uh masterpiece, this was this, this was that,
- 57:33Speaker 3: and you know you have all these media people saying
- 57:36Speaker 3: how great a game plan it was. I mean, what's that?
- 57:38Speaker 5: I yeah, I just wish that Bill had had stood
- 57:43Speaker 5: his ground a little bit more on it. And I
- 57:44Speaker 5: don't know why he didn't or what is I'm sure
- 57:46Speaker 5: you know, Bill, he definitely had motives to do what
- 57:49Speaker 5: he did, but you know, there was opportunities for him
- 57:51Speaker 5: to state his own side of things and they he
- 57:56Speaker 5: didn't take it.
- 57:57Speaker 4: It's one of my biggest questions was just when did
- 57:59Speaker 4: you interview Bill Bellich. I would just love to know
- 58:01Speaker 4: the context of when he was interviewed specifically because I mean, ideally,
- 58:04Speaker 4: you would have liked that interview to happen now after
- 58:07Speaker 4: he's out of it and he's a little bit removed.
- 58:09Speaker 4: I don't think that he would have been super forthcoming anyway,
- 58:12Speaker 4: of course, but I think you would have gotten a
- 58:13Speaker 4: little bit more. I mean, I said a hundred times,
- 58:15Speaker 4: you've got press conference Bill in there, and he's got
- 58:18Speaker 4: his guard up, and you know, even in the even
- 58:20Speaker 4: in the moments he did pull back the curtain a
- 58:22Speaker 4: little bit, you didn't really learn a lot. I mean,
- 58:24Speaker 4: I still say my favorite things from all of these
- 58:26Speaker 4: things that are written about the Dynasty are the behind
- 58:28Speaker 4: the scenes footage when you hear him talking to the team,
- 58:30Speaker 4: when you hear him on the sidelines. You know, that's
- 58:32Speaker 4: that's what I think, you know, shows his genius. And
- 58:35Speaker 4: you know, I think that they tried to underline some
- 58:38Speaker 4: of the greater moments, but I think everybody kind of
- 58:40Speaker 4: left feeling a little bit like there was more to
- 58:42Speaker 4: underline with what a great coach he was and what
- 58:45Speaker 4: he meant to this run.
- 58:46Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, but but it's your point, Fred, I.
- 58:49Speaker 3: Think the only thing missing along those lines was the
- 58:53Speaker 3: lawyer molloy thing, because I think that was a turning
- 58:56Speaker 3: point for the could have been a turning point for
- 58:58Speaker 3: the team. The Tom Jackson and yet Bill, you know,
- 59:02Speaker 3: got the locker.
- 59:03Speaker 4: Room back, I've got I've got a running list that's
- 59:06Speaker 4: fifteen right now. There are just things that and these
- 59:08Speaker 4: aren't like big moments that needed to be spent time on,
- 59:10Speaker 4: but just little moments that could have even just been
- 59:12Speaker 4: a slice of b roll or things that really were
- 59:14Speaker 4: pertinent to me. I'll run down him. Dick Raybayn passing
- 59:17Speaker 4: away Ricky Proll saying tonight a dynasty is born. I
- 59:20Speaker 4: mean that is just one of the most iconic lines
- 59:23Speaker 4: to me, that the show is literally the Dynasty. And
- 59:25Speaker 4: you have a member of the opposite team saying his
- 59:27Speaker 4: teams would be the nasty Harrison Maloy, the twenty one
- 59:30Speaker 4: game win streak, thirty eight thirty nine, Teddy Stroke, the
- 59:33Speaker 4: AFC Divisional game. I think that's a bill.
- 59:36Speaker 5: That's a bill.
- 59:36Speaker 4: You know, pulling that team knocking off San Diego fourteen
- 59:39Speaker 4: into the Wildcat Game.
- 59:40Speaker 5: Didn't need a lot of time.
- 59:41Speaker 4: But you know, these are just little moments that that
- 59:43Speaker 4: you know instantly, the fact that the twenty eighteam couldn't
- 59:47Speaker 4: win big games. I think that was a big miss overall.
- 59:49Speaker 4: That they painted eight to be like another one of
- 59:52Speaker 4: his Mona leases.
- 59:52Speaker 5: I don't think it really was.
- 59:53Speaker 4: I think that that was a sign that when you
- 59:55Speaker 4: don't have a quarterback who's elite, you can't beat good teams.
- 59:58Speaker 4: And that showed you what was coming down the pike
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: when Brady left. Brady's MVP twenty ten season, I mean,
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: he was a unanimous MVP that you know, it was
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: on fire.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: The twenty eleven super Bowl.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: Yeah, those super Bowls weren't really.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: Twenty fifteen okay with those super Bowls.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: So you basically want a diary of every year.
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: Well, I just want little moment keep going. I'm enjoying
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: twenty fifteen. I just you know, there's got to be
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: some moments in there. Twenty sixteen, did Jimmy g getting
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: hurt and Brisette, I thought, that's another Bill moment, getting
- 1:00:26Speaker 4: a rookie quarterback to play on a short week and
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: doing that. Twenty nineteen, it made it again. I said
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: that last show, it seemed like the Super Bowl happened,
- 1:00:34Speaker 4: and then they broke up.
- 1:00:35Speaker 5: Two months later. There was a whole nother season.
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: You couldn't if you did not know, if you didn't
- 1:00:39Speaker 9: follow the Patriots closely, if you're.
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: A casual fan, did you.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: Have no idea you could have thought Brady left and
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: saw that in my last I think we're talking about
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: twenty episodes now.
- 1:00:49Speaker 5: With that maybe the last one that.
- 1:00:51Speaker 9: Don't spend an episode fabricating drama about Matt Castle potentially
- 1:00:56Speaker 9: taking over Brady.
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: There's other things you can Again, that was an ode
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: to Bill.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: It got dragged out, though.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: I just I understand why they covered the topics that
- 1:01:06Speaker 5: they covered. I just watching it. I just don't know
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: how you take it any other way besides it being slanted.
- 1:01:13Speaker 9: When you sat down with the director Matt Matt hamatchuck,
- 1:01:17Speaker 9: did you get the sunset he's like a big football guy. No,
- 1:01:20Speaker 9: That's exactly what I think watching that film. Is this
- 1:01:23Speaker 9: guy there's the headlines, is the dynasty, This is the
- 1:01:29Speaker 9: TMD dynasty. This is not a football guy.
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: This is a filmmaker.
- 1:01:32Speaker 5: And that's what I saw. I saw that right off
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: the bat. I was like, this guy didn't know anything
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: about the Patriots, he doesn't know anything about football.
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: I was like, his voices in it and I heard
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: his voice.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I said, this is not a I get it. Within
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: New England, I get it. I get the uproar, but
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: I think he wasn't making it for Patriots fans'.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: And then I think the appeal maybe to the producers
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: was that he's not a football guy. He's going to
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: come to this clean and tell this story from his
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: own perspective. Last one, though, can I just said the
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: last one? How do you not show any thing of
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Brady playing here at Tampa, like going against Belichick like that?
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: Like that to me is just a miss, Like, yeah,
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: what a moment that was speaking of him, I just read.
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: I don't know if it's HBO that just signed him
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: to a first look contract so that he gets good
- 1:02:15Speaker 3: What are those?
- 1:02:16Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: I mean you just you have a deal with the
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: studio and any idea you have, you go to them
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: and if they want it, they get it, and if
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: they don't, you can go elsewhere. But it's a it's
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: a nice little nice of them. That's kind of what
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: company I work for. How to first look deal at

- 1:04:39Speaker 7: Our final episode of the Dynasty doc Recap podcast drops
- 1:04:43Speaker 7: tomorrow wherever you listen to podcasts. Here's a little snippet
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: from that podcast.
- 1:04:47Speaker 8: All right, welcome to the Ultimate Dynasty wrap Up Show.
- 1:04:51Speaker 8: As we're here to wrap up the Dynasty documentary The
- 1:04:54Speaker 8: Dynasty documentary series is streaming on Apple TV, and we
- 1:04:58Speaker 8: couldn't be warply to have joining us the executive producer
- 1:05:03Speaker 8: and the author of the book The Dynasty, Jeff Benedict,
- 1:05:06Speaker 8: and the director of the series, Matt Hammachek Matt Smith,
- 1:05:09Speaker 8: along with Paul Brow and Fred Kirsch. GUIs, thank you
- 1:05:11Speaker 8: so much. You guys are on tour. You know, everybody's
- 1:05:14Speaker 8: taking a crack at you guys, and we just wanted
- 1:05:16Speaker 8: to have a discussion about can you believe this project
- 1:05:19Speaker 8: has come to light, has been aired, has been viewed,
- 1:05:23Speaker 8: You've got to the finish line. Is that a bit
- 1:05:26Speaker 8: of a relief maybe that you've got there?
- 1:05:27Speaker 16: I thought you were gonna say, And we just wanted
- 1:05:29Speaker 16: to have a crack at you too.
- 1:05:30Speaker 3: No no, no, no, no, no, no, We'll see it
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: might be a crack.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: It might be a crack here and there.
- 1:05:36Speaker 16: Oh, it feels good to be at to be at
- 1:05:38Speaker 16: this stage of the project, because it it seems like
- 1:05:42Speaker 16: a really long time ago when we started. I was
- 1:05:45Speaker 16: flipping through some photographs on my phone yesterday. I was
- 1:05:48Speaker 16: looking for something completely unrelated to this, and I actually
- 1:05:51Speaker 16: came across a picture of you.
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: Oof and Matt and myself and Justin Wilkes, who was
- 1:05:59Speaker 5: the exit. I could approuce it.
- 1:06:00Speaker 16: From imagine.
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: And it was like when we first met here in
- 1:06:04Speaker 4: the archives.
- 1:06:04Speaker 5: It was the very first time.
- 1:06:06Speaker 16: And you know, when you look at the dates on
- 1:06:08Speaker 16: those pictures, it's a reminder of how long this project
- 1:06:12Speaker 16: has been going on.
- 1:06:13Speaker 8: Jeff, did you For those who are watching and listening,
- 1:06:16Speaker 8: let's just kind of recap a little bit you wrote
- 1:06:18Speaker 8: the book. Was it your intention when you wrote this
- 1:06:21Speaker 8: book A La Tiger there's going to be a documentary,
- 1:06:25Speaker 8: There's going to be a series behind this is your hope?
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:06:29Speaker 16: And I talked about it or broach the subject even
- 1:06:34Speaker 16: before I started writing the book. So I had spent
- 1:06:37Speaker 16: about a year with the team, and i'd met you
- 1:06:40Speaker 16: by then, and I think i'd even met you Fred,
- 1:06:44Speaker 16: But before I started putting pen to paper, you know,
- 1:06:47Speaker 16: I was thinking about the potential for other ways that
- 1:06:51Speaker 16: the story could be telled after the book was published,
- 1:06:54Speaker 16: and so it was an early consideration. It's something that
- 1:06:59Speaker 16: I raised with the team and with the organization, and
- 1:07:02Speaker 16: then as soon as I turned the narrative in, which
- 1:07:05Speaker 16: was right after Tom went to see Robert to tell
- 1:07:08Speaker 16: him that he had decided to leave, and they made
- 1:07:11Speaker 16: the phone call to Bill and to Jonathan. I wrote
- 1:07:14Speaker 16: that last scene like within a few days of that
- 1:07:16Speaker 16: actually happening, and then I was done because I was
- 1:07:19Speaker 16: actually done, kind of like Matt being done with the
- 1:07:22Speaker 16: film until we're kind of waiting for the last thing
- 1:07:25Speaker 16: that he would put in. I was in the same
- 1:07:27Speaker 16: situation with the book. I had everything done except the ending,
- 1:07:31Speaker 16: and then that happened. And as soon as that happened,
- 1:07:35Speaker 16: I turned it in. And then there's like six or
- 1:07:36Speaker 16: seven months before the book's on sale, and I immediately
- 1:07:39Speaker 16: pivoted to starting on the steps to be taken to
- 1:07:44Speaker 16: turn it into a docu saries.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: You know, we're going to get into the details. But
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: something you just said made me think, you know, you
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: had done everything except the ending. Yeah. If the Patriots
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: had had an amazing season in twenty three, yeah, gone
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: to the playoffs are even better. Would Apple have been
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: willing to hold off or would they have come out
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: at the same time? Anyway?
- 1:08:06Speaker 17: I think that well, look, if they had, like, let's say,
- 1:08:10Speaker 17: I think it would have been up to me to say, Okay,
- 1:08:13Speaker 17: I think what we should do is we should take
- 1:08:15Speaker 17: the ten that we've already had, because it you know,
- 1:08:17Speaker 17: we basically we were done by maybe even midway through
- 1:08:20Speaker 17: the season or something like that. They had been going
- 1:08:23Speaker 17: on a Super Bowl run and they got there or
- 1:08:27Speaker 17: something happened that was just extraordinarily. Maybe we could have
- 1:08:29Speaker 17: gone and said, okay, Apple, can you give us a
- 1:08:31Speaker 17: little bit more money?
- 1:08:32Speaker 5: We want to do.
- 1:08:33Speaker 17: Episode eleven or something like that. So that that's the
- 1:08:36Speaker 17: kind of that's the way the conversation would have happened.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: And so because you hear the conspiracy theorists, oh the
- 1:08:41Speaker 3: time it's coming out, Oh yeah, right, you know.
- 1:08:44Speaker 17: It's so the one thing that we did know for
- 1:08:47Speaker 17: a very long time was that it was basically this
- 1:08:49Speaker 17: question of Apple came to me and they said, how
- 1:08:52Speaker 17: long do you think you're going to need to make
- 1:08:54Speaker 17: something like this? And if I had had my true druthers,
- 1:08:57Speaker 17: I probably would have said I need three and a
- 1:08:58Speaker 17: half four years. But that's not the way TV works.
- 1:09:01Speaker 17: They want it right as soon as possible. Right, So
- 1:09:03Speaker 17: what we came to an agreement on was that basically
- 1:09:07Speaker 17: the week after the Super Bowl in twenty twenty four,
- 1:09:09Speaker 17: gave us two and a half years. That was more
- 1:09:12Speaker 17: or less enough time to go make this thing. And
- 1:09:15Speaker 17: that's the date that we had locked in stone. And
- 1:09:17Speaker 17: the reason for that was, just like myself and every
- 1:09:21Speaker 17: other football fan out there, the Super Bowl happens, you
- 1:09:24Speaker 17: start to go through football withdrawal, and so if you know,
- 1:09:27Speaker 17: it's like, well, let's give people the greatest football story
- 1:09:29Speaker 17: of all time, and that's it was locked in stone
- 1:09:31Speaker 17: for two and a half years. Basically that was going
- 1:09:33Speaker 17: to happen that way.
- 1:09:35Speaker 8: So, Matt As, you're from New York, correct.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: I live in New York.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: I'm from DC.
- 1:09:40Speaker 8: Okay, so you're not a Patriots fan, you're not a
- 1:09:43Speaker 8: New Englander and everything like that. As you experience the
- 1:09:47Speaker 8: aftermath and the and everybody indulging in this, have you
- 1:09:52Speaker 8: noticed a distinctive flavor between the reaction in the six
- 1:09:55Speaker 8: state region and the entire rest of the country. Yes,
- 1:09:58Speaker 8: does that surprise you?
- 1:10:00Speaker 17: It does surprise me, because I this was all kind
- 1:10:06Speaker 17: of new to me, right. I didn't understand anything when
- 1:10:09Speaker 17: I first started making this thing, right, And so the
- 1:10:10Speaker 17: good part about that is that you get to talk
- 1:10:13Speaker 17: to the seventy plus players and coaches in front office
- 1:10:16Speaker 17: exact the rivals and everything and These are a lot
- 1:10:19Speaker 17: of these questions like why did you decide to go
- 1:10:21Speaker 17: with Drew Blood's or Tom Brady over Drew Blood. So
- 1:10:23Speaker 17: are questions that these guys have been asked over and
- 1:10:25Speaker 17: over and over again, and they sort of have their answers.
- 1:10:27Speaker 17: But I think it helps when somebody who genuinely doesn't
- 1:10:30Speaker 17: know the answer to these questions and is actually curious
- 1:10:33Speaker 17: asked them of these things, because it elicits new answers,
- 1:10:36Speaker 17: because you say, I think a lot of times things
- 1:10:39Speaker 17: like that, history has proven them to be the greatest
- 1:10:42Speaker 17: coaching decisions in the history of the NFL. Right, they
- 1:10:45Speaker 17: made the obvious choice because history has proven it right.
- 1:10:47Speaker 17: At the time, it wasn't like that. And that was
- 1:10:49Speaker 17: always the thing is, I don't know the answers to
- 1:10:52Speaker 17: these questions. I want to know why when every when
- 1:10:55Speaker 17: all the archive I'm watching is saying that this was
- 1:10:57Speaker 17: a horrible decision, why did you think it was right then?
- 1:11:00Speaker 17: And what was it like to be in the room
- 1:11:01Speaker 17: at that point in time? So I didn't know any
- 1:11:02Speaker 17: of this stuff, and I have to sit back and
- 1:11:04Speaker 17: listen and just ask follow up questions and hear and
- 1:11:08Speaker 17: kind of get out of the way. And let these
- 1:11:09Speaker 17: people talk. So when this thing came out, I think,
- 1:11:15Speaker 17: you know, I had an inkling of the fact that
- 1:11:18Speaker 17: I surely knew that in Boston the reaction was going
- 1:11:20Speaker 17: to be strong one way or the other, right, because
- 1:11:22Speaker 17: there's sort of this where at the stadium right now,
- 1:11:24Speaker 17: we're having this conversation, and within a fifty mile plus
- 1:11:26Speaker 17: radius of this place, there is a giant bubble, right,
- 1:11:30Speaker 17: and the reaction within this bubble has been a mixed.
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: Bag, but a very vocal mixed bag.
- 1:11:38Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:11:38Speaker 17: Everybody's on Twitter and they're saying all these different things,
- 1:11:40Speaker 17: and it's like all these conspiracy theories and stuff, and
- 1:11:44Speaker 17: I'm just sitting there just like, guys, I have no
- 1:11:47Speaker 17: idea what any of these people were talking about. Now nationally,
- 1:11:50Speaker 17: it's just like, hey, they sort of viewed this thing
- 1:11:52Speaker 17: the way that I viewed this thing, which was this
- 1:11:55Speaker 17: wasn't my team. I don't have a dog in this fight.
- 1:11:58Speaker 17: We're just gonna sit back and we're going to watch.
- 1:12:00Speaker 17: And it's sort of this balance thing where some people
- 1:12:02Speaker 17: can look at episode five and see it the way
- 1:12:04Speaker 17: that I see it, which is it's a love letter
- 1:12:06Speaker 17: to Bill Belichick and what he did when his back
- 1:12:08Speaker 17: was up against the wall, and as he puts it,
- 1:12:11Speaker 17: he lost the greatest quarterback of all time for a season.
- 1:12:14Speaker 17: And that's what episode five is.
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: Now.
- 1:12:16Speaker 8: The people in Boston who are.
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: Convinced that somehow this is some kind of a Bill
- 1:12:20Speaker 17: Belichick Hitchob, they just completely overlook all of that, and
- 1:12:22Speaker 17: all they pay attention to is one line in the
- 1:12:24Speaker 17: middle of the episode when Tom Brady Senior.
- 1:12:25Speaker 4: Says Bill, he's cold.
- 1:12:27Speaker 17: He's calculating, if you're not on the team, you're out
- 1:12:29Speaker 17: of state, out of mind. That's the only line they hear.
- 1:12:31Speaker 17: And then the other, you know, thirty something minutes of
- 1:12:34Speaker 17: that thing just doesn't exist. And this is the thing
- 1:12:36Speaker 17: that I keep seeing, and I think this is something
- 1:12:38Speaker 17: that goes on in our society in general today, is
- 1:12:40Speaker 17: if you believe something, you cannot be talked off of
- 1:12:43Speaker 17: that belief no matter what. And you will cherry pick
- 1:12:48Speaker 17: every piece of evidence that helps support the thing that
- 1:12:50Speaker 17: you already believe, and and and you'll accumulate all those
- 1:12:54Speaker 17: things and you will ignore everything else, and then you
- 1:12:57Speaker 17: have it.
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: It's there, it's proof.
- 1:12:59Speaker 18: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, replacements
- 1:13:04Speaker 18: were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 1:13:07Speaker 18: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 1:13:11Speaker 18: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: And now great moments in.
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: History.
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: I'll give you a good one.
- 1:13:22Speaker 6: I was running the other day and I'm coming and
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: I'm coming across the main street, right, so I get
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: and like, there's no cars out there, right. So here
- 1:13:31Speaker 6: comes a car, right, and I'm halfway across the street
- 1:13:34Speaker 6: and I'm like, he ain't slowing down. So I stopped
- 1:13:39Speaker 6: and he just kept going and his window was half down,
- 1:13:43Speaker 6: and I go, thanks, buddy, and he's like he bumped
- 1:13:47Speaker 6: his brakes. And he turns and there was another person
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: on the corner. I go, yeah, that guy's essential.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: That's another great moment from Biler, like.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: On, yeah, there it is. Paul's interactions with people are
- 1:14:03Speaker 3: always always great. And also what's great is easy to drink,
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: easy to enjoy. Bud Light, the official beer sponsor of
- 1:14:12Speaker 3: the New England Patriots and Paul Perillo. So especially today,
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: you guys celebrate You don't celebrate Easter, but is Easter
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: big in your family?
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: YEA?
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: Well, listen if you're hopping toward Easter Sunday, Alex and
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: there's no time like the present to get ready with
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: Bob's Discount Furniture Shop tons of on trend dining sets
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: with plenty of style and storage for all your brunching needs.
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: And while you're here, complete the look with seasonal accents
- 1:14:40Speaker 3: and outdoor styles made for warm weather hosting only at
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Bob's Discount Furniture, the official furniture store of the New
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: England Patriots. So there you go.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: I now adopted Easter. But on Ketshwai two we had
- 1:14:52Speaker 5: the same read and it was two Jewish guys reading
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: that read about it's actually really funny, but I adopted Easter.
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: How like Easter?
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: Whatever? It's chill whatever, all right, du oh, he's doing
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: Daniel Jeremi talk, So that'll be on the uh Draft
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: podcast that will come.
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: On Patriot Patriots Draft Countdown.
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: Patriot Patriot's Draft Countdown. And then what you heard during
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: halftime was a snippet of our sit down with Matt
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: Hammachuck and Jeff Benedict that will drop today on wherever
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: you find your podcast. So I think it was an
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: interesting conversation. We sat down for almost an hour with them,
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: and I thought we had a good conversation.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: I haven't heard it yet. Yeah, so I'm looking forward
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: to all right.
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Eight five five pasts five hundred is ACE ticket houtline
- 1:15:42Speaker 3: web radio at Patriots dot com as the email address.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: Let's get back to our listeners. There's where's the one?
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: Oh here, Ryan and Nebraska. I've come to the opinion
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: that MHJ and his his not sitting down what I
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: have come to the opinion that in his default to
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: sit out so often in games, the combine, Pro Day, etc.
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: Is actually a problem. As talented as he is, that
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: attitude does not sit well with me. Am. I just
- 1:16:16Speaker 3: old and out of touch with the age diversity.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: You all have.
- 1:16:19Speaker 3: I was wondering if you could weigh in on this
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 1:16:23Speaker 5: But I think that he's of the rare breed that
- 1:16:26Speaker 5: is such a good prospect and is such a lock
- 1:16:30Speaker 5: where he's going to go in the draft, which is
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: probably top five or six picks, that he really has
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: no reason to do anything in the pre draft process.
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: And I look at a different way too. I also
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: look at it and say, his head's in the right
- 1:16:44Speaker 5: place because his head is on his rookie season in
- 1:16:47Speaker 5: the NFL and he's football training for his rookie campaign
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: to you know, he want has big aspirations for his
- 1:16:54Speaker 5: rookie season. So would you rather the guy be training
- 1:16:57Speaker 5: for forty yard dashes or would you rather play be
- 1:17:00Speaker 5: training for the football season. If you're the Patriots and
- 1:17:03Speaker 5: are thinking of drafting him at third overall, I'd rather
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: than being focused on football and getting ready for this season.
- 1:17:08Speaker 9: What do you think youngin Yeah, I think we've talked
- 1:17:11Speaker 9: about it before when it first came announced, that like
- 1:17:13Speaker 9: it can kind of only hurt him, and that's kind
- 1:17:16Speaker 9: of yeah, the way I go with it.
- 1:17:18Speaker 5: You know, I think some people are afraid that he's
- 1:17:21Speaker 5: hiding something. That's the fear is that, yeah, he looks
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: fast on film, but actually at a forty yard dat,
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: he's only a four or five guy, And like, how
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: does that change your mind? What would you think of him?
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: If a team, you know, they get thirty visits, if
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: they ask, hey, come on over, what would you say
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: if he turned down a visit to a team.
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't think that will happen from I guess
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: the one thing that might happen is if you're said
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: team and you're picking twentieth, then he might say no, Yeah,
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: but I think for teams, all the teams picking in
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: the top ten to twelve picks, which are the teams
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: that he Breer said that he asked at the combine,
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: do you need me to do anything at my pro day?
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: And I guess they all said no, that we all
- 1:18:05Speaker 5: trust what you are and whatever.
- 1:18:08Speaker 9: So yeah, where there would be like a little bit
- 1:18:11Speaker 9: of a red flag, ye, because there's like it's like, okay,
- 1:18:13Speaker 9: is that arrogance?
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: Is that what's going on?
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: Speaking of that, there was a report that you know,
- 1:18:19Speaker 3: the Patriots did not go to bo Nix's pro da.
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: They didn't send anyone there. Pen X there there there
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: are people I said b Nix, I meant Penix. Yeah,
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: and you know that's fine. And so they said, you know,
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: they're definitely not taking Panix. Now, that doesn't mean that
- 1:18:37Speaker 3: they don't invite Penix here.
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: Yeah, you know.
- 1:18:40Speaker 3: So I think people are jumping to conclusions a little
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: bit there that there's no interest in in Panix, and
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: I don't think that that's the right conclusion to come to.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: I agree, Yeah, I think jump to any conclusion until
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: literally the drafts done.
- 1:18:54Speaker 5: I think, yeah, I think that it could go one
- 1:18:57Speaker 5: of two ways. Either yeah, Penix is off their board
- 1:18:59Speaker 5: because of his medicals or whatever, or they're really interested
- 1:19:02Speaker 5: in Penix. They don't want anybody to know, right right.
- 1:19:04Speaker 5: So I remember when Nate when Nate Solder, they had
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: zero pre draft contact with Nate's older. When they picked
- 1:19:13Speaker 5: Nate's older in the first round, he was as surprised
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: as anybody that he out.
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: To Colorado two days before the draft.
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, you know, like they really were very very
- 1:19:23Speaker 5: quiet about that. And that's that's how it is, you know.
- 1:19:27Speaker 5: I for a lot of these guys. So I think
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: that Pennix is a really interesting case because there will
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: be some teams will have him completely off the board
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: because of his medicals, and if they're one of them,
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: then yeah they're out. But I don't think they're out
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: for football reasons, you know, film or whatever.
- 1:19:44Speaker 3: Sam in Toronto, I know the common perception right now
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: is that Jayden Daniels will go too. But I find
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: it interesting that Daniel Jeremiah, who was regarded as the
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: most plugged in draft guy, currently has now published three
- 1:19:56Speaker 3: straight mock drafts, with Drake may going too. Every No
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: One Things howls out in Mariota in Signals Daniels to
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: the Commanders, but less we forget in twenty twenty one
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: when the Bears brought in Andy Dalton to draft fields
- 1:20:11Speaker 3: and we had Cam Newton and drafted Mac. Personally, I'd
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: be happy with either. I just hope we draft a quarterback.
- 1:20:19Speaker 3: This whole not ready for a QB narrative just bugs me.
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: I don't think that the reason why people are linking
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels to the Commanders of anything to do with
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: who his backup quarterback is going to be. It's the
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: type of offense that Cliff Kingsbury runs, and they people
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: envision him wanting to run with a dual threat quarterback.
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: Next email, Is anyone else concerned about Jaden Daniel's arm strength?
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: It reminds me of Mac Jones, the way he throws
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: floaters and does not necessarily drive the ball into spots.
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: His running skills are obviously unique, but his lack of
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: zip on the ball makes me nervous.
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: Yeah. We talked about this a little bit on Catch
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: twenty two. It's definitely something that when I go to
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: his pro day, you can see how the ball jumps
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: out of his hand a little bit better, and see
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: how the receivers catch his passes and things like that
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: and to to you know, judge the zip on the ball,
- 1:21:05Speaker 5: at the velocity on the ball. But because of all
- 1:21:08Speaker 5: the other things that he brings to the table that
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: Mac didn't bring to the table, you know, obviously the mobility,
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: I think it's less of a concern. The issue with
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: Mac is that he had he had to be a
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: pocket passer. That's how he had to win, and he
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: didn't have, you know, the arm talent to do it consistently,
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: whereas with Jaden, you know, he can run around and
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: make things happen and do things with his legs.
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: So yeah, Matthew, hi everyone. I know that general consensus
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: is Zappi is not good enough. But under the circumstances,
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: I thought he came in last year at the end
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: and did okay. I was wondering what you all think
- 1:21:38Speaker 3: his future is and can be. He may not even
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: be on the team.
- 1:21:44Speaker 5: I feel pretty strongly that he shouldn't kind of can't
- 1:21:48Speaker 5: be on the team, especially after I'm sure you saw
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: it Alex Instagram, Kendrick Bourne's contract thing party, whatever you
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: want to call it. They were all at the dinner.
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: That whole crew was out the dinner, and you know,
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: Zapi stood up to give a speech about Kendrick Bourne
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: and the whole room is going QB one, QB one.
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: You know, this whole thing. I really feel like you
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: have to start clean in that room. Everybody out, like I,
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: Mac is already out Zappy too. It's nothing to do
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: with ability. It's more to just do with with optics.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: And I have concerns that the locker room is going
- 1:22:32Speaker 5: to Zappi is going to have some port from people
- 1:22:35Speaker 5: in the locker room that are his teammates that have
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: been around him for the last couple of years, and
- 1:22:39Speaker 5: it's gonna be a tough thing for not only the
- 1:22:42Speaker 5: rookie but also Jacoby Brissett to win over everybody in
- 1:22:46Speaker 5: the locker room if he's still here.
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: Travis in West Virginia, He says, why so serious? Your
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: recent show's a noticeably less funny quirky than they used
- 1:22:55Speaker 3: to be. You've really been dwelling on the same topics
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: over and over, and I'm tired of people calling in
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: with their genius suggestions of what the Patriots should do
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: in the draft. If I want this level of redundancy,
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: I'll just listen to Weei. I come to you to
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: mix it up and entertain me while also being informative.
- 1:23:11Speaker 3: Can't you occasionally just talk about breaking down cardboard boxes
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: and putting the mail by the tuna. Don't get me wrong,
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: I love the show and I think you're the best
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: in the business. I'm just trying to inject something different
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: than the incessant, insufferable talk of Drake may J Daniels
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: in the Stupid Dynasty doc. Okay, no, I get it, Travis,
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: But when is the last time we had the number
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: three pick? That's the thing. I mean. We're an uncharted
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: territory here for the Patriots for the last twenty four
- 1:23:41Speaker 3: years in that we have a top five pick. So
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: I get it. Believe me, I want to fank ot
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: the other story.
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: You got to give the people what they want.
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: Yeah, I've been I was born for this. This is
- 1:23:53Speaker 5: this is my time to shine me and me and
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: Barth the draft. People actually care about the draft for once.
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: It's great and.
- 1:23:59Speaker 2: I'm here like, can't wait till the off season conversations.
- 1:24:01Speaker 3: And Zach from Missouri wants to know is Evan Okay?
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: He's rocking the same shirt he had on yesterday I'd
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: be more than willing to set up a gofund me
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: for the duke.
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: That is we now have.
- 1:24:13Speaker 3: Did you have a late night last night?
- 1:24:15Speaker 5: I did go to the Celtics game. It was a
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: little bit later in the outfit as as last night
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: Evan came in drunk.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:24:23Speaker 5: I know that's not true, but I did. I did
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: meet somebody cool at the Celtics game last night. Jeremy swaymen,
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you're out to dinner me and my dad
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: and uh. I looked over and he was standing at
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: the hostess desks, and I was like, oh, that's definitely true.
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: You didn't meet him when we had him here two
- 1:24:39Speaker 2: years ago?
- 1:24:40Speaker 5: No, no, no, but it was cool. Took a took
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: a selfie with him. Nice guy.
- 1:24:44Speaker 2: Wow did you ask him for that?
- 1:24:46Speaker 5: Of course?
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: Cool?
- 1:24:48Speaker 5: First season ticket holders?
- 1:24:49Speaker 3: So nice?
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: You should print it out put at your desk.
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: No, you want to do a shout out for the
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: restaurant or no?
- 1:24:56Speaker 5: I avoid if I could remember the name of it,
- 1:24:59Speaker 5: but it's so we actually found remember, No, it's a
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: Japanese restaurant. It's got you know. I can't I can't
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: remember the exact name. But so at the garden. Now
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: they have this like cafeteria courtyard thing, and this Japanese
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: restaurant is like right in there, but it's just like
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: it's small. They just have some tables and stuff like that,
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: and unlike all the bars, there's never that long of
- 1:25:23Speaker 5: a wait, like I think we waited for like fifteen
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: minutes last night. And me and my dad love you know,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: sushi ribs, you know, you know that type of stuff,
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: So we just got a couple of plates of sushi.
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: They have these like specialty ribs. I'll look up the name,
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: but uh yeah, I guess swim and also a fan
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: of said Asian restaurants. Having dinner with Jeremy Swimon last
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: oh nice. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: He got criticized for talking too much draft and not
- 1:25:47Speaker 3: being funny anymore.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: How about pasta with a hat trick dinner? And I
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: saw that bare thing where but I told my kid
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: like he scored two goals in the first five minutes.
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: I'm like, hell, he'll have a hat trick tonight.
- 1:25:55Speaker 5: But yeah, I'm gonna look up the name. You're right, fred,
- 1:25:56Speaker 5: I should get How how was Daniel Jeremone dj was great?
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: It was great. I you know, I just before we started.
- 1:26:02Speaker 4: I told him like, hey, I go back to the
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: days when you're recording your podcast out of your house.
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: He's like, oh, I appreciate it. So yeah, it's a
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: full circle moment. So you know, I mean, as we
- 1:26:10Speaker 4: kind of talked at the top, it happens a lot
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: with people. I mean, Evan and I are kind of
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: guys like that who just kind of had a passion
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: and we're doing it out of their house and trying
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: to figure out how to podcast.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: And Jeremiah was like, well, Deuce, I was at your
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: last game at holy Cross, so you.
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: Know when we won the MAC championship, thank you very much. Yeah,
- 1:26:26Speaker 4: I walked off a winner. But but no, great great
- 1:26:28Speaker 4: insight from him. You know, we talked make Daniels good fits.
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: You know, he was I think of the stick at three,
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: make the pick that was, you know, his overall kind
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: of feeling he had Jade and Daniels going to the
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: Patriots and his.
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: Yeah, everybody's been talking about the fact that he's had
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: three straight mocked drafts with May going second.
- 1:26:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, so I don't like that, but but well we'll see.
- 1:26:48Speaker 4: As much as I do like Daniels, you know, I
- 1:26:50Speaker 4: do it will be tough when then Washington coming on
- 1:26:52Speaker 4: all that grank may all right, all right, let's go
- 1:26:55Speaker 4: on Daniel.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: As being fres Now. I got to tell you, Mike
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: might have peaked with that line about Zac Wilson's superpower
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: being Mills and just kissed my well.
- 1:27:03Speaker 4: I gotta give Mad props because it wasn't as quick
- 1:27:06Speaker 4: as Matt made it sound in the open today. It
- 1:27:08Speaker 4: took a little time for me to get that.
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: And I love Alex's comment today about the director not
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: being a football guy anyway. Years ago on PFW, there
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: was a general agreement that when the Dynasty finally ended,
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: it probably wouldn't go well, that the landing would probably
- 1:27:23Speaker 3: be rocky. Looking back. Did it end better, worse or
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: the same as you expected?
- 1:27:28Speaker 4: That's a good question, the Dynasty and better or worse,
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: or saying I just wish, I just wish it had
- 1:27:33Speaker 4: ended after twenty eighteen, like I wish they won the
- 1:27:36Speaker 4: Super Bowl, like the Dynasty kind of portrays it, like
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: I wish that that was the true ending because for me,
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: like I'll always remember covering the nineteen season and how
- 1:27:45Speaker 4: miserable that that was, and that's disappointing. It's a great question.
- 1:27:50Speaker 4: And I always remember Tom's dad saying, it's not gonna
- 1:27:52Speaker 4: end well. And I've always especially with the way that
- 1:27:55Speaker 4: Bill was, you had to know that it was gonna
- 1:27:58Speaker 4: be a little clunky.
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: I probably a little worse.
- 1:28:00Speaker 4: Probably a little worse. I would have liked to have
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: seen Bill, you know, go out, not kind of getting
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: you know, kicked on the way not that, not that
- 1:28:07Speaker 4: we kicked him on the way out, but it just
- 1:28:09Speaker 4: it was down years he had.
- 1:28:10Speaker 5: You know, it was a that part. I always think
- 1:28:13Speaker 5: of the dynasty ending after Brady left, like I did, Well,
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: it was.
- 1:28:16Speaker 4: I mean, it was a staggered ending. I guess you
- 1:28:18Speaker 4: knew it wasn't probably they were gonna, you know, hop
- 1:28:20Speaker 4: on a horse together and ride off into the sunset.
- 1:28:23Speaker 5: But I think it was. I just I think it
- 1:28:25Speaker 5: was it kind of caught up to him.
- 1:28:27Speaker 4: You know that the sixteen seventeen eighteen drafts, like that's
- 1:28:31Speaker 4: that's where the dynasty kind of died. I think are
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: then those draft misses from sixteen to nineteen, and you know,
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: by the time you had a little bit of a
- 1:28:39Speaker 4: rise up when you went, you know, balls to the
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: wall and free agency and that kind of you know
- 1:28:43Speaker 4: righted the ship for a moment, but it was just
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: too much. They didn't have a corps anymore. And you know,
- 1:28:48Speaker 4: I I to me, it's it's all about those drafts
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: and what they missed on.
- 1:28:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, nobody could have predicted Brady leaving for
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: the Bucks and winning a Super Bowl.
- 1:28:56Speaker 9: No, you know, but it just I just wish, I'm
- 1:29:00Speaker 9: I mean, twenty years is a long time. The fact
- 1:29:01Speaker 9: that they kept it together is a miracle in and
- 1:29:04Speaker 9: of itself. But I just wish maybe hindsight's twenty twenty
- 1:29:07Speaker 9: maybe they I just wish they realized, like in the moment,
- 1:29:10Speaker 9: like this is so much bigger than our own individual egos,
- 1:29:13Speaker 9: Like let's just find a way to make this work
- 1:29:15Speaker 9: because we're like it was so magical.
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: It really was. Yeah, But I think Brady still felt
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: he had more to.
- 1:29:22Speaker 2: Do with sure to prove and I wish he was here.
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: As much to himself as to anyone else.
- 1:29:26Speaker 5: And I think to Deuce's point, though, it probably wasn't
- 1:29:29Speaker 5: going to be here regardless, just because of the state
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: of the roster at that point, especially once Gronkowski retired
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: and Edelman started to really get all caught up to
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: him physically. I mean, you look at that that twenty
- 1:29:42Speaker 5: nineteen you know, twenty twenty excuse me, roster, and if
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: Brady comes back, I mean, what is he going to
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: do with that team? Like even him, you know, like
- 1:29:51Speaker 5: just yeah, and that was a team that you know,
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: in nineteen, he carried that team to the playoff, you know,
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: with a good defense against bad teams. But I just
- 1:30:04Speaker 5: what would he have done with the twenty twenty team.
- 1:30:07Speaker 5: It would not have been I'm sure they would have
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: had a winning record because it's Tom Brady, but you know,
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: in general, it just wouldn't have been different. I don't think.
- 1:30:14Speaker 3: I mean, I.
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: I guess.
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: I guess it ended kind of the way in terms
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: of just feeling and you know, animosity or respect. I
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: think it ended the way I thought it might. Yeah,
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: you know, like again, I didn't think Brady was gonna
- 1:30:31Speaker 3: go win a Super Bowl with another team, but I figured,
- 1:30:34Speaker 3: you know, he could end up on another team. We
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: talked about it. You know, all the greats, seemingly most
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: of them, you know, Joe Montana and Aaron Rodgers, they
- 1:30:43Speaker 3: all left for other teams. Even go back to Joe Namath,
- 1:30:47Speaker 3: who I was a big fan of went for another
- 1:30:49Speaker 3: you know, like a wizard, Michael George. You know, so
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: that's not surprising. It's not surprising. There was some animosity.
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: You know, why leave if you're you're truly happy. But
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: at the same time, you know, it's a little surprising
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: that Bill got canned and then he comes out and
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: does a press conference all smiles, mutual, you know, sure,
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: you know, getting paid in full, you know, softens the landing.
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: You know. I think I think you're going to see
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: over time that as bad as it was, I think
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: to your point, Alex, they all do realize how great
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: it was as well, and you'll see evidence of that
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: in the next you know, coming months, in the years.
- 1:31:35Speaker 4: I mean, I think if there was you know, a
- 1:31:38Speaker 4: good thing for Patriots fans to come out of the
- 1:31:40Speaker 4: dynasty was just a there's a large group of fans
- 1:31:43Speaker 4: now that I think, I have a little more appreciation
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: for Bill and they're defending him a.
- 1:31:46Speaker 5: Little bit more. But you know what it was like
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: for the last three years after Tom left, everybody blamed Bill.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: Everyone kicked Bill. That was he was the you know,
- 1:31:54Speaker 4: the horse that it was getting beat by all the fans.
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: And you know, so now it's it's changed. Unfortunately now
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: it's the owner and crosshairs, it seems like. But I
- 1:32:02Speaker 4: just think that that's gonna kind of open the door
- 1:32:04Speaker 4: for Bill when he does come back, that he's going
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: to really be embraced. And I think, you know, and
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: that's why I like the way the dynasty ended. I
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: do think it ended on a positive note.
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: And you know, it would surprise me more is if
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: when Bill goes into the Canton Hall of Fame, Robert
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: and Tom Brady aren't there. Oh yeah, that would shock me.
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: Of course they'll be.
- 1:32:22Speaker 5: Do you think he's going to be there in June?
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: Yes, Brady?
- 1:32:25Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, good, No, but I would assume he's going
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: to be.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: Robert writes in While I like what the new regime
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: has done so far with retention and depth, with so
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: many needs, I don't see how they keep the third pick.
- 1:32:41Speaker 3: If they can pick up another first round of this
- 1:32:43Speaker 3: year and additional picks for this in the next draft,
- 1:32:46Speaker 3: how could they say no?
- 1:32:47Speaker 4: I just again, if you believe that one of these quarterbacks,
- 1:32:50Speaker 4: that you believe in them, you're not going to have
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: a chance probably to get I mean, look at how
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: hard it was to get to three you know at
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: this point, Like I mean, I still have people send
- 1:32:58Speaker 4: messages they never should have be donever. You know, it's
- 1:33:00Speaker 4: that's gonna happen. They're gonna win games. You're the third
- 1:33:02Speaker 4: overall pick, You're probably not gonna get a chance, and
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: you're you're you're doing this in a year where there
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: are three good quarterbacks that are worthy of that pick.
- 1:33:10Speaker 4: So I just think, unless you vehemently feel like Jayden
- 1:33:13Speaker 4: Daniels can't play, then you stay and you take the quarterback.
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I would ask people, and I know
- 1:33:19Speaker 5: that it's probably not the right reason that to do
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: it out of fear, but how would you feel if
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: the Patriots traded out of the third overall pick and
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: Drake May goes on to be an MVP quarterback and
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: the Patriots are stuck in this quarterback purgatory left tackle?
- 1:33:32Speaker 5: You're right, and they're just there's no And I think
- 1:33:35Speaker 5: that in some ways that's why teams reach on quarterbacks
- 1:33:37Speaker 5: is out of that fear that they're the team that
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: passed up the quarterback. But I think that that's.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: Quarterback and also end up in purgatory.
- 1:33:45Speaker 5: It's like, yeah, I think that that's that's the question
- 1:33:48Speaker 5: to you know, just a different way kind of asking
- 1:33:50Speaker 5: the same question that Deuce is asking, is you know,
- 1:33:53Speaker 5: if you feel that this guy has that type of potential,
- 1:33:56Speaker 5: do you want to be the team in three years
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: that passed on Drake May Like, do you want to
- 1:33:59Speaker 5: be the team in three years that passed on Jaden Daniels.
- 1:34:02Speaker 5: That's gonna look bad as the Chicago Bears out looks
- 1:34:05Speaker 5: had to pass on Patrick Mahomes for Mitchell Trubisky, you know,
- 1:34:07Speaker 5: like it's really you do that, and you're really risking
- 1:34:11Speaker 5: it if you're this region.
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: But even like sticking with that point with the Bears,
- 1:34:14Speaker 4: like I don't and it's not totally Apple Staples, but
- 1:34:17Speaker 4: I don't think anyone's saying, like you idiots for drafting
- 1:34:19Speaker 4: Justin Fields at this point, like it didn't work out,
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: But yeah, in hindsight, that was the pick.
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: Like you know, Mac, there's no regrets.
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: There were people Patriots fans lamenting that the Patriots didn't
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: move up to get Justin Fields.
- 1:34:31Speaker 5: Yeah, oh yeah, oh, I mean you know there's still
- 1:34:34Speaker 5: people that think he can play.
- 1:34:35Speaker 10: Yea.
- 1:34:35Speaker 4: So I mean, I mean Paul was a big Justin
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: Fields guy, and he would have he would have been ecstatic,
- 1:34:38Speaker 4: and you know that's that's just how it goes, Like,
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: you know, these guys have the traits, and I mean
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: we've talked about it. You know, it's I used the
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: Pennox example is just if you really don't believe in
- 1:34:47Speaker 4: a guy and he's there and you're feeling, like to
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: Evan's point of that pressure of like we just we
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: don't have a quarterback and he's not perfect and we
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: don't really like him, but there's no one else, and
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: you know, and you.
- 1:34:56Speaker 5: Get forced in it.
- 1:34:57Speaker 4: Like it's just it would take real courage to pass
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: on that when you really need it, because you just
- 1:35:01Speaker 4: have confidence in your conviction that he's not the guy, even.
- 1:35:04Speaker 5: Though you need a quarterback. Yeah, and I think a
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: lot of people to say, oh, it's the third quarterback,
- 1:35:09Speaker 5: Like you know, you're not even getting the best quarterback.
- 1:35:11Speaker 5: But there was a big difference between drafting the third
- 1:35:14Speaker 5: quarterback and drafting the fifth quarterback. And it's at fifteen
- 1:35:17Speaker 5: instead of three. You know, this quarterback class, Drake May,
- 1:35:21Speaker 5: if it's Drake May or Jaden, same thing, Like they
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: might have been the number one quarterback in other classes.
- 1:35:26Speaker 5: They certainly would have been that in twenty twenty two,
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: like all these guys would have been drafted way ahead
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: of Kenny Pickett. So like that's the thing you also
- 1:35:33Speaker 5: have to look at, is yes, because there's a Caleb
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: Williams in this class. Drake May is not the number
- 1:35:38Speaker 5: one quarterback on the board, but Caleb Williams would be
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: the number one quarterback in pretty much every single class.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: Here's a question, and I guess Evan, maybe you're most
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: qualified to answer, but anyone can. If Trevor Lawrence was
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: in this draft, where would you.
- 1:35:51Speaker 5: Go one one? I think? But there are people that
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: would say that Caleb would go ahead of him. There
- 1:35:56Speaker 5: are I think that Trevor Lawrence was a safer than Caleb.
- 1:36:01Speaker 5: I think he was a more natural pocket quarterback than
- 1:36:04Speaker 5: Caleb is, whereas Caleb has the improv stuff going on
- 1:36:07Speaker 5: for him.
- 1:36:08Speaker 3: So you said that with no pause, Yeah, does that
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: give you any second guess about like how good these
- 1:36:15Speaker 3: quarterbacks actually are?
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: No, because I would say that Caleb is in the
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: same tier as Trevor Lawrence, and I would rank Drake
- 1:36:24Speaker 5: May and a Jaden Daniels ahead of a Zach Wilson
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: and ahead of a Trey Lance and.
- 1:36:31Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean, like now, in hindsight, I mean,
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: what is that saying?
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: But I would have done it back then.
- 1:36:36Speaker 3: I mean, Bailey Zappi's ahead of those guys, but it would.
- 1:36:38Speaker 5: Have done it, like just based off of like how
- 1:36:40Speaker 5: you're grading them coming out of college. You know, It's okay,
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: it's not about hindsight. Like I can pull up the
- 1:36:46Speaker 5: grade that I had on Zack Wilson and it's the
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: grade I have on Jaden Daniels as higher, you know,
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: And so that's it's just the way that you look
- 1:36:53Speaker 5: at it. Like Mac Jones for me, was a ceiling
- 1:36:56Speaker 5: of an NFL starter, like a competent NFL starter, and
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: these guys are ceiling of MVP caliber quarterback. You know,
- 1:37:04Speaker 5: Like that's that's a big, big difference. Yeah, but it's always.
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: Every year is a combination two of guys like Trevor
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: Lawrence and lesser extent Williams. I agree with Evan that
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: are NFL ready and you know, guys like Josh Allen
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: or Mahomes that have some questions. And you know there's
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: no rule though that only a certain amount of quarterbacks
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: can hit you have. You know, there are drafts where
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: that quarterback taken just that you know, around the tenth
- 1:37:26Speaker 4: pick it actually hits and the guy who's the third doesn't.
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: There's no rhyme or reason to you know, every year,
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: oh you're getting the third quarterback. Sometimes the third quarterback
- 1:37:33Speaker 4: turns out to be the best player, you.
- 1:37:34Speaker 5: Know, So I mean, the second quarterback was the best
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: player last year. And I would also just say that
- 1:37:39Speaker 5: not every team has the same board. And I think
- 1:37:41Speaker 5: this is the hardest part about draft season when it
- 1:37:43Speaker 5: comes to predicting the draft, is that all thirty two
- 1:37:45Speaker 5: teams have a different board. So you could talk to
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: ten of them and you could get a consensus out
- 1:37:50Speaker 5: of those ten. But all it takes is one of
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: those teams to like JJ McCarthy more than they like
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: Drake May, and then JJ McCarthy all of a sudden
- 1:37:57Speaker 5: goes ahead of May. You know, like that's that's all
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: it takes. In a lot of cases, I think that
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: that's this the order that they come off the board in.
- 1:38:06Speaker 5: It's not consistently always, Like you said, dude, that's the
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: way that it ends up being that this was the
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: best quarterback, that was the second best quarterback, that was
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: the third best. I mean just last year.
- 1:38:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's certainly appealing when you look at
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: a guy like Trevor Lawrence and you say he's ready,
- 1:38:18Speaker 4: he's ready to pop into an NFL offense ye for years,
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: you know, like never lost a game in whatever, like
- 1:38:24Speaker 4: thirty years or whatever it was. You know, so I
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: don't know that's and that's why I say, like Daniels
- 1:38:29Speaker 4: in May, they they they need to develop, they have
- 1:38:31Speaker 4: you know, they're not ready made, you know, not to
- 1:38:34Speaker 4: spoil DJ, but he felt like both guys could hop right.
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: In and play, you know, almost immediately, so you know, it's.
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: It's just there was like a really strong consensus, because
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: that's I think it happened. I think it just makes
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: me so apprehensive because there's no consensus.
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: Like when Elway he was everyone knew he was going
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: to be great, and he was great. Peyton Manning everyone
- 1:38:54Speaker 3: knew who was going to be great and he was great.
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: You know, like you don't get that anymore a lot.
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: Yeah, if Caleb didn't have he wasn't Caleb, and he
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: didn't have all, you know, all the personality quirks that
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: he has, then I think that he would be considered
- 1:39:09Speaker 5: that type of player but for some.
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: People I'm talking about between Daniels.
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: And may that to me that and I agree that
- 1:39:17Speaker 5: there is no consensus, but I think that stems from
- 1:39:19Speaker 5: playing style. They're so stark in how they different in
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: how they play than it's a flavor thing. It's do
- 1:39:25Speaker 5: you what do you want Lamar Jackson or do you
- 1:39:27Speaker 5: want Josh Allen? And some people are going to favor
- 1:39:29Speaker 5: one and over the other. So both of them had
- 1:39:31Speaker 5: the same ceiling of MVP. But it's just right, and
- 1:39:36Speaker 5: so that's hard, you know, some people just prefer one
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: style over the other.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: Uh, Deuce's list, says Audrey. One more key moment for
- 1:39:44Speaker 3: Duce's List that wasn't used in The Dynasty Brady's freak
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: thumb injury, his amazing quick stitch up and proactive healing
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: work with Alex and then playing great and all BB
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: said was, well it is an open heart surgery. I
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: bet Brady was furious. Another fat log on the fire one.
- 1:40:00Speaker 5: That's a good one.
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: I do.
- 1:40:01Speaker 4: There are a couple other two that that I forgot
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: to write down, But you know, again, like I don't
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: need like twenty minutes on each of those moments. I
- 1:40:07Speaker 4: just think they were significant moments in the story of
- 1:40:10Speaker 4: the dynasty in that you know, like, like, I don't
- 1:40:12Speaker 4: need a full segment on the Wildcat game, but you
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: could show me that as part of the two thousand
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: and eight season to kind of illustrate the point that
- 1:40:19Speaker 4: the defense was getting old. And I mean Bill says
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: it himself in that documentary, we couldn't beat the good teams.
- 1:40:26Speaker 4: And you know, I think that that's a point that
- 1:40:29Speaker 4: every every filmmaker is going to tell the story from
- 1:40:31Speaker 4: their perspective. But and it's hard, Like if I had
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: been on that Hammi check thing, I look, I'm the worst,
- 1:40:35Speaker 4: You're not worst nightmare because I.
- 1:40:37Speaker 5: Know all of this. I live in all of us,
- 1:40:39Speaker 5: every moment you miss. But what would it have gotten?
- 1:40:44Speaker 4: But in my not defense? Like am I not defense?
- 1:40:46Speaker 10: Like?
- 1:40:46Speaker 5: But would it have gotten bogged down?
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: And not?
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: No, you know, but it needed Hammicheck. Directing it in
- 1:40:52Speaker 5: that way is fine, but it needed a Mike to
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: sew mister Hollywood to cut that has the background of
- 1:41:00Speaker 5: knowing what it's like to make a documentary the way
- 1:41:02Speaker 5: he's trying to make it, but also has the knowledge
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: of the Patriots dynasty to be like, but you're missing.
- 1:41:08Speaker 5: You know, we could just to add these pieces in.
- 1:41:12Speaker 2: Our fans are Rabbit fans. They know everything, they remember it.
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I think too that like maybe the biggest miss though,
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: when we're talking about things that they didn't do for
- 1:41:21Speaker 4: Bill was the twenty one game win Street, because I
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: think that's kind of where the Patriots became the Patriots,
- 1:41:27Speaker 4: and they became that one game at a time, you know,
- 1:41:30Speaker 4: and I've said it before that what I always kind
- 1:41:33Speaker 4: of what I take what I love about Bill and
- 1:41:35Speaker 4: his coaching style was the focus on today, focus on
- 1:41:39Speaker 4: you know, it's the saying be here now that that
- 1:41:41Speaker 4: people sometimes use. I think that kind of sums up
- 1:41:43Speaker 4: what his coaching philosophy and really you know, came down to.
- 1:41:46Speaker 4: And you had a team that really believed in that,
- 1:41:48Speaker 4: and you know, Paul talked about you know another one
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: bites the Dust that they would play in O seven.
- 1:41:53Speaker 4: That to me that they they kind of just glossed
- 1:41:55Speaker 4: over that stuff.
- 1:41:56Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: Hamicheck wanted to put the spotlight on eight as a
- 1:42:00Speaker 5: drink the Bill.
- 1:42:00Speaker 4: I think the much bigger spotlight was on those two
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: seasons that win streak, how they won games however they
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: needed to and you know, defensively, they really emerged into
- 1:42:09Speaker 4: like just this nightmare of a team to have to
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: deal with the O one.
- 1:42:12Speaker 5: Pats weren't really that. They became the.
- 1:42:14Speaker 4: Patriots the Patriot way that term that was three h four.
- 1:42:18Speaker 3: Yeah, let's go back to the phones. Uh Todd's in
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: North Carolina.
- 1:42:23Speaker 19: Hey, Todd, you know, I've been liking the dynasty talk
- 1:42:26Speaker 19: both past and future, and I think you guys have
- 1:42:29Speaker 19: been doing a great job of really just breaking it
- 1:42:31Speaker 19: down and letting us all no kind of you know,
- 1:42:35Speaker 19: all the perspectives involved. But I think we're missing one here.
- 1:42:40Speaker 19: The big one where is missing here is probably how
- 1:42:43Speaker 19: are we doing the po transition here? Like is Bart's
- 1:42:48Speaker 19: going to be Fred? And then you've got maybe Duce's Paul?
- 1:42:51Speaker 19: How do you how are you guys figuring on transitions?
- 1:42:55Speaker 5: This dynasty is not ending anytime. I just got skipped
- 1:42:58Speaker 5: over from Bar apparently something of that.
- 1:43:01Speaker 19: No, No, you're Eric, Evan, You're You're Eric, but a
- 1:43:04Speaker 19: good Eric.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: I know a lot more about So in your story,
- 1:43:07Speaker 3: do I go to like the forty nine ers and
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: win an Emmy or something, or.
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: Like, you know, I think you're kind of Bill Fred.
- 1:43:13Speaker 8: I think we're going to push you in more flash
- 1:43:15Speaker 8: than that.
- 1:43:15Speaker 19: I think you probably go down to the rams or something.
- 1:43:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I think Paul's Tom.
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: I think Paul's Tom, Fred's Bill.
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: I think so. Yeah, that's never given me be another Paul.
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: I mean that's the I mean, especially these days, we'll
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: never could never find.
- 1:43:27Speaker 19: My problem is who's going to be the Andy and
- 1:43:29Speaker 19: the new one? Like you guys have never transitioned to
- 1:43:31Speaker 19: an Andy yet.
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I mean there's only so many in the
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: world finishing each other.
- 1:43:39Speaker 8: Anyway.
- 1:43:40Speaker 19: I love the show. Thank you guys for all that
- 1:43:42Speaker 19: you do in this crazy time. And yeah, keep us on,
- 1:43:45Speaker 19: keep us in formed, all.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Right, Thank doctor. I appreciate it. Mike's and Puerto Rico.
- 1:43:50Speaker 5: Hey, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike. No, okay, yeah,
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: find one who's been a little bit. Yeah, walking Korean
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: is in Boston.
- 1:44:01Speaker 20: Hey, Kareem, Hey, guys, Boston scream. Also it's Kareem and Boston.
- 1:44:07Speaker 20: How to folks.
- 1:44:08Speaker 3: Hello, we've got a character here.
- 1:44:11Speaker 10: What's going on?
- 1:44:13Speaker 20: Another another great phone call by Todd. He can put
- 1:44:16Speaker 20: away the pads.
- 1:44:17Speaker 3: Now, Wow, I love it.
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: Listener listener, just have a donut.
- 1:44:26Speaker 20: No, I love Todd because every single phone call is
- 1:44:29Speaker 20: more entertaining than.
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: His good He's got a whole routine.
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: I love it.
- 1:44:36Speaker 20: Yeah, let's take a little spin on this. Your guys,
- 1:44:40Speaker 20: off season is coming up. Tell me one thing you
- 1:44:43Speaker 20: guys are looking forward to do this offseason.
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: The off season we don't have. I mean maybe two
- 1:44:50Speaker 5: weeks in early July between mini camp and training campers
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: a little bit.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: I hope to play tennis. I hope to play golf.
- 1:44:56Speaker 4: I'm going to LA for my annual visit with my
- 1:44:59Speaker 4: in laws and the l A trip, so I'm looking
- 1:45:01Speaker 4: forward to that. Getting some food. As I mentioned, my
- 1:45:02Speaker 4: favorite dessert place is back in business, so he's very
- 1:45:05Speaker 4: there for my birthday. The Oreo teamsue you're going down.
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: They're very excited about the dessert place.
- 1:45:11Speaker 4: I'm sorry, like it's just my favorite.
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: Evan's going to catch up on his film study.
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: I married this off season.
- 1:45:18Speaker 5: Next off season, Uh, you will go to Martha's Vineyard
- 1:45:22Speaker 5: for for a trip like we always do. I won't
- 1:45:25Speaker 5: be as as exciting as last year, when you know,
- 1:45:27Speaker 5: I got engaged, Like I can't really top that, But
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: we'll have a good time.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: I got some bachelorettes.
- 1:45:32Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you're in that phase of life. How much
- 1:45:36Speaker 4: money you're gonna have to drop on bachelorette dresses, travel parties?
- 1:45:40Speaker 2: Last summer, well last summer. The one that got me
- 1:45:43Speaker 2: is the wedding that cut canceled when I showed up.
- 1:45:46Speaker 5: I gotta admit I just I'm no thanks, Just like
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: give my if you won't feel the need to give
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: me a spot, just give me my spot to somebody else,
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: like I I just there's not.
- 1:45:59Speaker 4: Wait, what's the our bachelor party going to be?
- 1:46:01Speaker 10: Like?
- 1:46:01Speaker 3: What is that you want?
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: That's an off there conversation. Give me, you don't want
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: to you don't want to documented.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: What you're They hired darren A Lawski to come into
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: a strip tease. He comes out of a cake.
- 1:46:17Speaker 5: What we got here is me.
- 1:46:21Speaker 4: I went to Vegas for my bachelor party, and it
- 1:46:23Speaker 4: was you know what, that's a place to do your bachelor.
- 1:46:25Speaker 5: In my you know, like that would be where I
- 1:46:28Speaker 5: would want to go. But we've also been to Vegas
- 1:46:30Speaker 5: so many times over the last couple of years because
- 1:46:33Speaker 5: of the team that I'm kind of all Vegas out,
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: like I've I've been there done that sort of thing,
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: so maybe something a little different.
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: I do need to take my wife there. She's never
- 1:46:42Speaker 3: been to Vegas. It's nice.
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: I need to stay at Paris.
- 1:46:45Speaker 5: It's very romantic. It's you know, the fake Eiffel Tower.
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: Don't do not stay at the ex calip That was
- 1:46:53Speaker 4: where we stayed at my bachelor party, which was we
- 1:46:56Speaker 4: got comp to. We got the brunch where the lux
- 1:47:01Speaker 4: do not stay at the luxor the ex Caliber's bad
- 1:47:05Speaker 4: to we got comps, like you know, we're like, hey,
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: we thought we were a big time getting comped to
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: the to the brunch, and I like, I like desserts.
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: I wouldn't even eat the desserts of the brunch.
- 1:47:15Speaker 5: It was I'm not a hotel, not like wherever we
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: stay is always more than fine with me. But that
- 1:47:22Speaker 5: what you wrote in the in the poll in the
- 1:47:24Speaker 5: nfl A survey that I didn't get a participate. I
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: didn't get to take that. But the Luxe or I
- 1:47:30Speaker 5: will never step foot in that building ever again. It
- 1:47:33Speaker 5: was that bad. They're trashy. But like the Bellagio's really now.
- 1:47:38Speaker 4: Hotel, great food, you know.
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: The wind, you can get anything there, even like even
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: even Harris is like it's still cheap, if you know.
- 1:47:49Speaker 5: I used to go there when I was younger, when
- 1:47:50Speaker 5: I had no money, But it's at least nicer than
- 1:47:53Speaker 5: like the Scalibur lux or like Chopicana.
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:47:56Speaker 4: My favorite poor person move in the in the lux
- 1:47:59Speaker 4: or in the casinos was is just play the penny
- 1:48:01Speaker 4: slots and sit there and let them bring you free drinks.
- 1:48:03Speaker 5: And then you know, get going and get That's how
- 1:48:05Speaker 5: you money.
- 1:48:08Speaker 4: You're like one penny, like anybody a waitress, you know,
- 1:48:11Speaker 4: like another one, you know, like then after like six peers,
- 1:48:13Speaker 4: I've only spent twelve cents.
- 1:48:15Speaker 3: Yeah, let's see, Ryan writes in so I had wanted
- 1:48:20Speaker 3: to wait until free agency calm down to play this game.
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: You are to send Scott Zolak back to a historic
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: Patriots team to play out the season as the number
- 1:48:29Speaker 3: one quarterback with the sole purpose of getting as many
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: wins as possible. What year do you send Zoe back to?
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: Where and when does this man have the best shot
- 1:48:39Speaker 3: at getting those sweet sweet ws.
- 1:48:41Speaker 5: Oh man, it's a better question for two definitely.
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: I mean probably in that kind of eighties, when you know,
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: after their Super Bowl run, when they still had some talent,
- 1:48:51Speaker 4: but you know Grogan was starting to break down.
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: Easton wasn't the answer.
- 1:48:55Speaker 4: I mean, I wouldn't send Zoe back to like the
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: ninety ninety one ninety two teenthugh where they were terrible.
- 1:49:00Speaker 4: But you know maybe with with Stanley Morgan at the end,
- 1:49:02Speaker 4: Zoe could have could have picked up some dubs.
- 1:49:04Speaker 3: Do you think he'd have been better in two thousand
- 1:49:06Speaker 3: and eight than Castle? Like you know, Zoe at his peak,
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: his peak.
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: Pat And I've got to be honest, I love me
- 1:49:13Speaker 4: some Zoe, like I love backup quarterbacks like Gardner Minshew
- 1:49:15Speaker 4: with like a little flare, like they're not that good,
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: but they just have a little.
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: No no, no, it's a modern zo Well Minshew just yeah, yeah, minch. Yeah.
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: You know he's got some personality like like could you
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: picture Mintschew and you ask him if you'd like that comparison?
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: Your Gardener's that bad?
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: Well, but can't you picture Minshew Like, Oh, he's gonna
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: he's in Vegas now, Like, oh, he's gonna hang around
- 1:49:35Speaker 4: in Vegas and be like the radio guy, like you
- 1:49:37Speaker 4: can totally believe it.
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: He's got Yeah, he's got some I remember when Zoe
- 1:49:40Speaker 3: had his little run. He got came in and went
- 1:49:42Speaker 3: ripped off a few games and like his dad was
- 1:49:45Speaker 3: on the night the sports shows and he was you know,
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: it was all zo And I mean there's a reason.
- 1:49:51Speaker 4: Why the guy stuck around and has become like kind
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: of an icon in New England, like and that's how
- 1:49:55Speaker 4: he was when he played.
- 1:49:56Speaker 3: Like you know, if you can have a good nickname,
- 1:49:59Speaker 3: you can stick around longer.
- 1:50:01Speaker 13: Him.
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: He is a character. Oh, I mean just watching Zoe
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: in the wild is something else.
- 1:50:08Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: I've done a couple of shows with him, like where
- 1:50:10Speaker 4: we do, you know, our little Patriots analysis and usually
- 1:50:12Speaker 4: you're just kind of off the car and you just
- 1:50:14Speaker 4: don't know where he's going with something all of a sudden,
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: But what do you think about that?
- 1:50:17Speaker 3: Mc go, Like what did you say?
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: He knows exactly how he is on on the sports
- 1:50:22Speaker 5: tub is how but he's like that there's no off.
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: It would be so funny, I think instead of gerber
- 1:50:29Speaker 3: As they fed him at all when Oh my god,
- 1:50:33Speaker 3: he's the best.
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: I always just love when we're doing this show and
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: then he'll walk in and you're like, oh there's you know,
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: I just I love that one. You know where the
- 1:50:39Speaker 5: buses are leaving in five minutes, and so gets on
- 1:50:42Speaker 5: and all of us have been sitting there for two hours.
- 1:50:44Speaker 4: Yeah, Tim and soci together just such a combo.
- 1:50:49Speaker 3: Uh chat in Atlanta. I don't get the hype for
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: Kendrick Bourne. I get it. The guy has a great smile,
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: silly personality, but that doesn't help you win games. I
- 1:50:58Speaker 3: hated the signing in twenty one, and I hated them
- 1:51:00Speaker 3: bringing him back the season. I just don't think he's
- 1:51:03Speaker 3: that talented. Patriots fans have been so starved for wide
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: receiver since that one game with Antonio Brown that they'll
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: eat up a fringe wide receiver great.
- 1:51:11Speaker 4: I don't think that he is the next coming of anything.
- 1:51:14Speaker 4: I would just say the guy was on pace for
- 1:51:15Speaker 4: like eighty five catches.
- 1:51:16Speaker 3: And if we had a WR one and maybe a
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: WR two, he'd be a good receiver. Yeah, and you'd
- 1:51:22Speaker 3: be like glad to have Kendrick.
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: If he's not getting paid anything, right, So what it
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: was stressing about, and.
- 1:51:29Speaker 9: It's just good vibes like you right, this offense desperately
- 1:51:33Speaker 9: needed well you see.
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: I mean if they paid him like he was a
- 1:51:36Speaker 5: number one, if they paid him twenty million, dollars and
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: I'd understand totally why we get emails like that. But
- 1:51:41Speaker 5: they're paying him like he should be paid. He's making
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: like a base salary of six million dollars next year.
- 1:51:47Speaker 3: If if if the weight of the offense wasn't on
- 1:51:50Speaker 3: his shoulders, which at times it was, he'd be.
- 1:51:52Speaker 4: Fine, I mean fine if his name wasn't Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:51:56Speaker 4: And he played for another team last year and he staid,
- 1:51:57Speaker 4: here's a guy who is you know what twenty nine.
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: I mean, he's, you know, still on the right side
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: of thirty, that was having a career year and was
- 1:52:04Speaker 4: you know, one of the only bright spots in arguably
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: the worst offense in the league. And hey, he tore
- 1:52:09Speaker 4: his ACL. We're going to take a cheap flyer on
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: this guy. People would be kind of contrigued. But because
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: he's the known commodity and it's Kendrick Bourne and you know,
- 1:52:16Speaker 4: lover matehim that people are just kind of like, oh,
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: I don't want him back, Like I'm fine with it,
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: Like who knows he comes back.
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: Maybe he's also an analytics darling for what it's worthy,
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: the analytics every year, and they loved him in San Francisco, too,
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: because even though he's not a high volume guy, he's
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: really really efficient with the targets that he does get.
- 1:52:34Speaker 5: He catches the ball at a high rate and he
- 1:52:35Speaker 5: gets a lot of yards out of it too. So
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: he's somebody that is that perfect wide receiver three that's
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: you know, when you throw him the ball, he produces,
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: but he's not necessarily going to get the hundreds of
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: rack abilities.
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: Did anyone see his YouTube tour of his little room
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: at his house.
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: I love it.
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: Kendrick's vlog channel is amazing.
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: It's so funny.
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: I kind of laugh because, like he's got the shirts
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: that he's got from players.
- 1:52:58Speaker 2: It's like a college kids, yea, they like nobody married.
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: Like I didn't even recognize any of the names of
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: the shirts that he had up there, and he's like, yeah,
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: here's all my shirts.
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: And I don't know, I could, I could.
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: I'm I'm good with not seeing anymore of the you know,
- 1:53:12Speaker 4: behind the scenes videos.
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: These guys, I like, you were just disappeared. They just
- 1:53:18Speaker 5: disappeared into here. When I gave my my Zappie take,
- 1:53:22Speaker 5: I just be one. He needs to be gone, Like.
- 1:53:25Speaker 2: You think that was a joke. He needs very serious
- 1:53:27Speaker 2: about that.
- 1:53:28Speaker 4: I got to be honest, I don't really like there's
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: a whole Felgrim mass thing. And then Paul, I know
- 1:53:32Speaker 4: Paul's on this train too that they like he's like
- 1:53:34Speaker 4: there on it. He's got like an attitude and he's
- 1:53:37Speaker 4: too cocky, and I'm like, what, I just don't get it,
- 1:53:40Speaker 4: Like and I've I've you know, I sat next to
- 1:53:42Speaker 4: him at a function once and like he's just a
- 1:53:44Speaker 4: nice kid.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: He's a quarterback.
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:53:46Speaker 4: I just don't get that whole thing that they have
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: this whole narrative going that he Yeah, you know.
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: I don't.
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: That's definitely not my my issue with Zappy again, Like
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: it isn't even performance, like it's not to do it
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: on the field. I just think that a lot of
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: those guys, and I think Hendrick in particular has a
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: lot of pull in that receiver room. And if we
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: get into week one and it's like Zappi versus Brissette,
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: they're all going with Zappie right now, and I'm.
- 1:54:10Speaker 4: Just like, I don't know, Well, you'll see.
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: I mean maybe they're like Zami's cool, but.
- 1:54:16Speaker 3: People like him. Yeah, so I think he'll He's a
- 1:54:19Speaker 3: good dude. Yeah, he'll be He'll have been here all summer.
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: He'll have plenty of time to win.
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: I don't need a divided locker room. I don't need it.
- 1:54:28Speaker 2: No, I don't think it's going to be divided.
- 1:54:29Speaker 9: I don't see this as Kendrick kind of stepping into
- 1:54:32Speaker 9: a more leadership role. He's one of the few veterans
- 1:54:35Speaker 9: on offense coming back that totally.
- 1:54:37Speaker 2: Trying to take these kids. I'm not way they're just
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: hanging out. I don't think he's gonna start like a
- 1:54:41Speaker 2: quarterback Riot.
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: Who's can who can be nicer? That's what they're Jacobe
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: or Zapie.
- 1:54:46Speaker 5: Who's gonna be nicer?
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: Uh? Listen. That's it for the show. But if you
