- 0:25Speaker 3: Gentlemen. How's everybody doing tonight?
- 0:29Speaker 5: I'd like to welcome to the stage the lyrically acclaimed
- 0:34Speaker 5: I like this young man because when he came out
- 0:37Speaker 5: he came out with the phrase he went from ashy
- 0:40Speaker 5: to classy I like that.
- 0:42Speaker 6: Give it up for him y'all.
- 0:50Speaker 3: You heard the bell.
- 0:51Speaker 7: It's time to put your work aside for the day

- 1:02Speaker 7: very capable hands. The Recess Bell on-air host, here he is,
- 1:07Speaker 7: Joshua Umahi.
- 1:13Speaker 4: October the 7th year of our Lord 2026, a beautiful crisp.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Wednesday evening here in Garden City, New York and beyond,
- 1:28Speaker 4: we welcome you.
- 1:41Speaker 3: To tonight's presentation of the Recess Bell. On air, we
- 1:46Speaker 3: are here on the voice of Nassau Community College. Of course, 90.3 WHPC.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It's Joshua Imahi on the ones and twos. With me,
- 1:54Speaker 3: I got my son. It's like, no, I'm playing. Hey,
- 1:56Speaker 3: don't do that. Don't do that. Don't do that. I'm playing.
- 1:59Speaker 3: I'm playing. I gotta be big bro at least. You
- 2:02Speaker 3: big bro.
- 2:02Speaker 8: I'm a little older.
- 2:03Speaker 3: I'm a little older. I ain't too old, but I'm
- 2:06Speaker 3: a little older. Corey David, what's up, man? Nothing much,
- 2:08Speaker 3: you know. Hey.
- 2:11Speaker 8: Top of the NFC East. Top of the morning to you.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Listen, bro. We got a lot of sports to talk about.
- 2:17Speaker 3: Got a long extended sports report in hour number two.
- 2:19Speaker 3: But for hour number one, bro, got to get right
- 2:21Speaker 3: to it. You feel me?
- 2:22Speaker 8: Chop, chop.
- 2:23Speaker 3: Because you know I don't play about our New York Knicks, right?
- 2:28Speaker 3: They had a second week back. It's back. It's that
- 2:31Speaker 3: time of the season. They are back, but I'm not
- 2:35Speaker 3: going to hold you, bro. I'm not. The vibes aren't
- 2:38Speaker 3: in tip-top shape. They all right. But given some of
- 2:41Speaker 3: the contract stuff and everything going on, we got to
- 2:44Speaker 3: talk about it. And I need to talk about it now.
- 2:46Speaker 3: I can't wait. Bro, I don't know whether to be
- 2:49Speaker 3: too concerned or not concerned. Oh, media is overblowing it.
- 2:52Speaker 3: But Carl Anthony Towns is talking about he wants a
- 2:54Speaker 3: new contract. The new contract hasn't come exactly how he
- 2:57Speaker 3: wants it. Yeah.
- 2:59Speaker 8: It feels like that guy is like, I've done everything
- 3:01Speaker 8: I'm supposed to do. Now, I understand I'll take a
- 3:03Speaker 8: pay cut. But you're getting a little disrespectful now. That's
- 3:06Speaker 8: exactly what we're going to talk about. That's exactly what
- 3:10Speaker 8: I'm saying.
- 3:10Speaker 4: And.
- 3:11Speaker 3: That's why we have a friend of the show coming back.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Newsday Sports' Steve Popper back on the recess bell on air.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Of course, covers the Knicks for Newsday. Does a spectacular job.
- 3:20Speaker 3: He's done that job for nearly three decades. And this
- 3:22Speaker 3: past year, Corey got to see his first Knicks championship
- 3:25Speaker 3: in that tenure. So can't wait to talk to him.
- 3:27Speaker 3: We talked to him about that in June a little bit.
- 3:30Speaker 3: But you wanted to say something?
- 3:31Speaker 8: And I was just going to be like, I got
- 3:33Speaker 8: to ask, like, a couple months removed now, how do
- 3:35Speaker 8: you feel? Are you still buzzing? Are you still got
- 3:39Speaker 8: that warm feeling in your stomach about the fact that
- 3:42Speaker 8: we are the host of the Larry? And Banner Night
- 3:47Speaker 8: is 13 days away now. I can't wait for that.
- 3:49Speaker 8: And I'm sure Steve is going to be eager to
- 3:51Speaker 8: cover that. So no one has the pulse of the
- 3:53Speaker 8: New York sports fan. the whole thing going like Steve
- 3:57Speaker 8: Popper does. Always has a good eye on everything. He's,
- 4:00Speaker 8: you know, been in the game for a long, long time.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Steve, you with us? How's everything going?
- 4:05Speaker 9: I'm here.
- 4:06Speaker 6: And I didn't think in my career I'd get to
- 4:10Speaker 6: be introduced as a guy covered the Knicks championship team.
- 4:14Speaker 9: You know, it's crazy. It really was a crazy.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Summer in that, you know, look, it went from the
- 4:22Speaker 6: celebration that didn't seem to end that night, you know,
- 4:25Speaker 6: the championship night, the parade and they just look, this
- 4:28Speaker 6: team has been everywhere. They've been celebrating on every show.
- 4:32Speaker 6: They're at every sporting event, uh, throwing out first pitches.
- 4:36Speaker 9: They're at the U S open there.
- 4:37Speaker 6: They're overseas. Um, and I think, look, uh, I think
- 4:42Speaker 6: they had the right kind of guys to get over that,
- 4:45Speaker 6: but I, you know, we were, I was at practice
- 4:47Speaker 6: today at Mike, Mike Brown brought it up that he
- 4:49Speaker 6: had to basically stop practice and tell the guys, you know,
- 4:52Speaker 6: that's last year.
- 4:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 6: You haven't won anything this year. So I think that's
- 4:57Speaker 6: the challenge here. I mean, the East is better. The
- 5:00Speaker 6: league is chasing them now. But I think the challenge is,
- 5:04Speaker 6: can you have the hunger that you had that a
- 5:06Speaker 6: 53-year drought creates?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Always wonder about that championship hangover. And I definitely will
- 5:12Speaker 3: be circling back to everything that happened at Knicks practice
- 5:15Speaker 3: with Mike Brown addressing the team in a moment. But Steve,
- 5:19Speaker 3: you wrote two pieces on October 5th and then again
- 5:23Speaker 3: yesterday about The contract situation, the extension talks with Carl
- 5:27Speaker 3: Anthony Towns. Now, the now infamous press conference on Monday
- 5:31Speaker 3: with Towns stepping up there and saying, you know, the
- 5:34Speaker 3: vibes aren't good right now. In turn, I'm paraphrasing, but,
- 5:37Speaker 3: you know, we're not really close right now in terms
- 5:39Speaker 3: of him and the organization are reaching a new deal.
- 5:42Speaker 3: What were your major takeaways from what Kat said, given
- 5:45Speaker 3: that you were there at that press conference and the
- 5:48Speaker 3: tone with which he said it?
- 5:50Speaker 9: Yeah, I was kind of surprised.
- 5:53Speaker 6: He sounded... You know, we kind of put it in
- 5:55Speaker 6: his hands. I don't think anybody egged him onto this,
- 5:57Speaker 6: but he expressed a lot of frustration. I actually spoke
- 6:01Speaker 6: to somebody close to him after, and I kind of
- 6:04Speaker 6: brought it up, you know, is this right? Are we
- 6:07Speaker 6: reading this right?
- 6:08Speaker 9: You know, are we hearing him right?
- 6:09Speaker 6: And they were like, yeah, he said it properly. There's
- 6:13Speaker 6: frustration on his side that, look, he not only, you know,
- 6:18Speaker 6: helped Bryce break a 53-year drought here, But he's an all-star.
- 6:23Speaker 6: He's an all-NBA talent. He was a key piece of
- 6:26Speaker 6: what they've done.
- 6:26Speaker 9: And I think.
- 6:30Speaker 6: People talk about giving up money, sacrificing that way. But
- 6:34Speaker 6: I think he sacrificed a little bit of his ego
- 6:36Speaker 6: and game coming here. He's clearly accepted being the number
- 6:41Speaker 6: two here behind Jalen Brunson. And not every guy with
- 6:47Speaker 6: his resume.
- 6:48Speaker 9: A former number one overall pick, would do that.
- 6:51Speaker 6: I think he was willing to come here and do
- 6:53Speaker 6: whatever it takes to be that complimentary piece to Brunson.
- 7:00Speaker 6: And I think he probably feels rightly so that he's
- 7:04Speaker 6: being overlooked a little bit. And I'll tell you this,
- 7:07Speaker 6: if he hits the open market next year, I think
- 7:10Speaker 6: he's a guy who's going to draw a lot of
- 7:11Speaker 6: attention from a lot of teams. He's one of the
- 7:16Speaker 6: best shooting big men probably in NBA history. And he's
- 7:20Speaker 6: a guy who, off the court, you just know what
- 7:23Speaker 6: you're going to get from him. He's a worker. There's
- 7:27Speaker 6: no ego involved. He's not a nightclub guy. He's a
- 7:35Speaker 6: valuable piece to them. And I think the Knicks know that.
- 7:37Speaker 6: And I believe this is going to get done. And
- 7:40Speaker 6: maybe it does get done before the season. I'm not
- 7:44Speaker 6: sure they love... uh, the very public, um, negotiating that
- 7:49Speaker 6: he's doing, but you know, it's, it's the style that
- 7:54Speaker 6: he's decided to take it, you know, to, to kind
- 7:56Speaker 6: of put some pressure on them. Um, but I think they,
- 7:59Speaker 6: like I say, the front office, I think knows this
- 8:01Speaker 6: has to get done.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Question.
- 8:03Speaker 8: With the current structure in the NBA as far as
- 8:06Speaker 8: the second apron, I know that Carl Anthony Towns is
- 8:10Speaker 8: going through his contract situation, but if his contract situation
- 8:14Speaker 8: gets settled, do you feel like it'll be a situation where, yeah,
- 8:17Speaker 8: we'll pay Carl, but we might have to get rid
- 8:19Speaker 8: of key role players like Josh Hart, Mikkel Bridges, and
- 8:25Speaker 8: of sorts?
- 8:25Speaker 3: Deuce McBride extension eligible, too.
- 8:27Speaker 6: Yeah, I think except for Deuce, I think there's a
- 8:30Speaker 6: way to make it all work. I think Deuce is
- 8:32Speaker 6: the one guy who is due for such a massive
- 8:36Speaker 6: raise that I think it's going to be difficult to
- 8:39Speaker 6: keep him. He's a guy who's making about $ 4 million
- 8:44Speaker 6: a year. And if you look at comps for what
- 8:46Speaker 6: he does, what he's achieved in the league, his type
- 8:48Speaker 6: of player, these are guys making $ 15, $ 16 million a year.
- 8:53Speaker 9: I think it's going to be difficult to keep him.
- 8:56Speaker 6: I think the other guys, you know, I think Josh
- 8:58Speaker 6: Hart knows what his value is to the Knicks is
- 9:02Speaker 6: probably more valuable than he is.
- 9:04Speaker 9: To most teams.
- 9:05Speaker 6: He's not a guy who's going to go there and
- 9:06Speaker 6: become a star and, you know, some building franchise. And
- 9:11Speaker 6: he also has, I think, aspirations of a post playing
- 9:15Speaker 6: career of being in some sort of, you know, broadcasting
- 9:19Speaker 6: or maybe a Michael Strahan path of, you know, hosting,
- 9:22Speaker 6: you know, being a co-host on some show, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 6: that's going to make him a lot of money. He
- 9:26Speaker 6: makes a lot of money as the sidekick there, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 6: on the roommate show and stuff. So I, I think
- 9:31Speaker 6: there are ways, um, I think, you know, he's a
- 9:35Speaker 6: guy who will sacrifice, sacrifice and be fair in his negotiations.
- 9:40Speaker 6: I think an interesting one is going to be Jalen Brunson.
- 9:43Speaker 6: You know, I was told years ago when he took
- 9:47Speaker 6: his last deal, you know, it wasn't that he didn't
- 9:50Speaker 6: take all the money, but, He took it a year
- 9:52Speaker 6: earlier than he could have when he could have gotten
- 9:54Speaker 6: more that next year. I think he's going to take
- 9:57Speaker 6: it a year early again this time.
- 9:58Speaker 9: And I think.
- 10:01Speaker 6: He'll probably be in a position where he's got to
- 10:03Speaker 6: take a little bit less too I don't know that
- 10:06Speaker 6: that's going to happen but I think you know I
- 10:11Speaker 6: think he's a very pragmatic guy and sees what it
- 10:13Speaker 6: takes to put a championship team together look the Knicks
- 10:16Speaker 6: front office is negotiating from a rough position here You're
- 10:20Speaker 6: negotiating with a group of players that just won the title.
- 10:26Speaker 6: If they're negotiating these deals at the end of this
- 10:28Speaker 6: year and they haven't repeated, maybe the players are a
- 10:33Speaker 6: little bit.
- 10:34Speaker 9: Less in a position of power.
- 10:35Speaker 6: I think right now they are holding all the power
- 10:39Speaker 6: in this.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Yeah, because I'll tell you one thing. The fans are
- 10:43Speaker 3: nervous from everything I saw on the chatter on social
- 10:45Speaker 3: media and sports radio callers. They're not happy about there
- 10:50Speaker 3: being contract negotiation or flux right now. So, yeah, just
- 10:56Speaker 3: a concern level with Knicks fans. Where do you think
- 10:58Speaker 3: they should fall on that real quick in terms of, oh,
- 11:01Speaker 3: my God, we can't believe this is actually happening post
- 11:04Speaker 3: championship or, you know, just calm down. They all want
- 11:07Speaker 3: to be here. Just let the cards fall how they may.
- 11:10Speaker 6: I kind of take that second approach. I think that
- 11:13Speaker 6: they're going to work it out. Look, if you look
- 11:16Speaker 6: at the players here, the main players in this, Leon
- 11:19Speaker 6: Rose used to run the basketball division for CAA. Carl
- 11:23Speaker 6: is repped by CAA. Jalen Brunson is repped by CAA.
- 11:27Speaker 6: Josh Hart is repped by CAA, including Leon Rose's son
- 11:31Speaker 6: being a big part of representing Jalen. I think they'll
- 11:37Speaker 6: come to a reasonable place here. That said, I don't
- 11:42Speaker 6: think it's all on the players. I think, you know,
- 11:45Speaker 6: James Dolan made it very clear he didn't want to
- 11:47Speaker 6: go in the second apron this year. Um, I've heard
- 11:51Speaker 6: that there was people in the front office that, that
- 11:53Speaker 6: were lobbying for him to do, do so. And he resisted. Um, I,
- 11:59Speaker 6: I think that may be, you know, he, I don't
- 12:02Speaker 6: know if that's a lifetime approach for him or that
- 12:04Speaker 6: someone's going to talk him out of it. I think
- 12:07Speaker 6: to me, you put a championship team together, you know,
- 12:10Speaker 6: you have to be willing to lose that flexibility that
- 12:13Speaker 6: being under, under the second, second apron affords you. when
- 12:16Speaker 6: you've already put together the championship team. You know, that
- 12:19Speaker 6: flexibility is important for teams that are trying to get
- 12:23Speaker 6: to where you are. I think for the Knicks, the
- 12:25Speaker 6: main thing here is to hold this group together. And
- 12:28Speaker 6: I think, you know, there's going to be a point
- 12:30Speaker 6: in this where there's going to be a decision made.
- 12:32Speaker 6: You know, do we go into the second apron? I
- 12:36Speaker 6: think also, you know, there's ways to structure these contracts
- 12:39Speaker 6: that can kind of.
- 12:41Speaker 9: Help each other.
- 12:42Speaker 6: And I think that's where I say the CAA connection
- 12:44Speaker 6: will kind of help facilitate this.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Now, lastly, Newsday Sports' Steve Popper joining the recess bell
- 12:51Speaker 3: on there tonight, Joshua Imahi, Corey David. You brought up
- 12:54Speaker 3: the Mike Brown press conference today at Knicks practice. Just
- 12:57Speaker 3: quickly recap for us what went down in terms of
- 12:59Speaker 3: him addressing the team.
- 13:00Speaker 6: He just talked about it. He said, you know, he
- 13:02Speaker 6: basically stopped practice at one point. You know, we had
- 13:04Speaker 6: just asked him about the competition for that final spot.
- 13:09Speaker 6: you know, what that's like here. And he said, it's everybody.
- 13:13Speaker 6: He said, the five guys, you know, the five starters are,
- 13:17Speaker 6: they're going to get their minutes. They're going to make
- 13:19Speaker 6: mistakes like everyone else, but they're going to play. Everyone
- 13:22Speaker 6: else is up for grabs. And he said that, you know,
- 13:25Speaker 6: the physicality of the team didn't show the other night, the,
- 13:30Speaker 6: you know, maybe something lacking of, I don't want to
- 13:34Speaker 6: say effort lacking, but there was something that he didn't
- 13:36Speaker 6: like what he was seeing. So he stopped practicing, basically
- 13:39Speaker 6: read the riot act of his team that, you know,
- 13:42Speaker 6: what you, what you are now is zero and zero.
- 13:44Speaker 6: Everyone else is tied with you. You haven't done anything
- 13:47Speaker 6: this year. Everyone's coming for you. You have to be better.
- 13:51Speaker 6: You know, you have to not be as good as
- 13:52Speaker 6: last year.
- 13:53Speaker 9: You got to be better.
- 13:54Speaker 6: So I think I was talking to one of the
- 13:57Speaker 6: players who said that it could be a good thing,
- 14:00Speaker 6: you know, to have a day like this where the
- 14:01Speaker 6: coach gets to give a wake up call.
- 14:04Speaker 3: Well, you know, it's an interesting position the Knicks are in.
- 14:07Speaker 3: The interesting position that they're in is that they're defending champions,
- 14:10Speaker 3: reigning champions. We'll see and keep a close eye on
- 14:14Speaker 3: everything happening in Knicks camp, and we'll do so with
- 14:16Speaker 3: the help of Newsday Sports' Steve Popper. Once again, thank
- 14:18Speaker 3: you so much, man, for joining our show. Once again,
- 14:22Speaker 3: Steve has two articles recently on Newsday Sports talking about
- 14:27Speaker 3: Carl Anthony Towns' contract situation and the salary cap woes
- 14:29Speaker 3: that might dampen the Knicks' repeat. Steve, thanks for the time, man.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Have a good one.
- 14:33Speaker 6: You got it. Anytime. Go ahead and do it.
- 14:35Speaker 10: Okay.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Bye-bye.
- 14:37Speaker 4: All right, Corey.
- 14:39Speaker 3: What's the vibes with you? Because you asked that question about,
- 14:42Speaker 3: you know, if we reach that agreement and I'm, yes,
- 14:44Speaker 3: I'm saying we, because listen, this is a Knicks friendly show.
- 14:48Speaker 3: I don't care what nobody got to say. Listen, I know,
- 14:51Speaker 3: you know, sports talk does their thing and, you know,
- 14:54Speaker 3: everybody has their different, like, no, this is a Knicks-friendly show.
- 14:56Speaker 3: This is Knicks of 26. This is where it was started. Yeah. So,
- 14:59Speaker 3: what's the vibes with you? What's your level of concern?
- 15:02Speaker 3: Steve said, you know, he likes to lay more on
- 15:05Speaker 3: the side of caution. Where do you lie with all
- 15:08Speaker 3: this contract negotiation stuff?
- 15:12Speaker 8: I feel like it's just unnecessary drama that we add
- 15:15Speaker 8: in all types of stuff. Like, you know, I feel
- 15:18Speaker 8: like it's the... We have so many people. You know
- 15:22Speaker 8: how it feels like to have every target on your
- 15:24Speaker 8: back because you're that team? It feels like we got
- 15:30Speaker 8: the Philadelphia 76ers just trying to have a gun right
- 15:34Speaker 8: to our back. Just like, I dare you to mess up.
- 15:36Speaker 8: I dare you to mess up. And it's just like, yo,
- 15:39Speaker 8: hold on.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Come on, bro. What my girl Young Miami say? Spin that.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Spin that.
- 15:50Speaker 8: Spin that. And then Cat got in some of the
- 15:57Speaker 8: best shape of his life. He lost a lot of weight.
- 15:59Speaker 3: Lost a lot of weight.
- 16:01Speaker 8: Lost a lot of weight. So it just shows you
- 16:02Speaker 8: his commitment to the team.
- 16:04Speaker 3: And it's just like.
- 16:07Speaker 3: We want to go back.
- 16:08Speaker 8: We want to finally be that team that is in
- 16:11Speaker 8: contention every year and every year in and out. And
- 16:15Speaker 8: I just don't see it if we just have these
- 16:18Speaker 8: little petty squabbles like in-house. And it's just like, I
- 16:21Speaker 8: wish things could stay internal. But obviously, you know that
- 16:25Speaker 8: you have to get paid. You want to get compensated
- 16:27Speaker 8: for your services.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Because guess what?
- 16:29Speaker 8: If you think you're about to pay him like 200 mil,
- 16:31Speaker 8: he is not Jalen Duran. He actually showed up in
- 16:34Speaker 8: a playoff. And just to get the exact numbers right.
- 16:37Speaker 8: So reading the reports and Newsday's Steve Popper just joined us,
- 16:42Speaker 8: read his report. The Knicks are offering Carl Anthony Towns
- 16:45Speaker 8: around five years, $ 200 million.
- 16:48Speaker 3: That's just a contract that Jalen Duren of Detroit got, who,
- 16:51Speaker 3: mind you, like you said, struggled mightily in the playoffs.
- 16:54Speaker 3: He did not have one great game in that 17,
- 16:58Speaker 3: excuse me, 13 game piston postseason run. 14 games they
- 17:02Speaker 3: played in the postseason.
- 17:03Speaker 6: So.
- 17:05Speaker 3: And meanwhile, Carl Anthony Towns had the greatest, most efficient
- 17:09Speaker 3: big man shooting postseason run ever. You can look up
- 17:13Speaker 3: the stats. I'm telling you, he went 50-40-90 in the playoffs.
- 17:18Speaker 3: So you're trying to offer a guy like that Jalen
- 17:22Speaker 3: Duren money, it's not going to go off well. Now,
- 17:25Speaker 3: I kind of understand what the Knicks are doing in
- 17:27Speaker 3: terms of, hey, You know, Jalen Brunson took a big
- 17:30Speaker 3: pay cut. He's the captain, right? Y'all love New York.
- 17:33Speaker 3: Y'all want in New York. Y'all kings here forever. It
- 17:36Speaker 3: kind of seems like, Corey, they're like, how bad do
- 17:39Speaker 3: y'all really want to be here? How much are you
- 17:42Speaker 3: willing to sacrifice to to stay the kings of New York?
- 17:47Speaker 3: And it's like Carl Anthony Towns is extension eligible, like
- 17:49Speaker 3: we said. Deuce McBride is extension eligible. Josh Hart as well.
- 17:53Speaker 3: It seems like that's their approach and the players are
- 17:55Speaker 3: looking at it like, at least from how I'm reading it,
- 17:58Speaker 3: they're looking at it like, Yeah, that's all well and good,
- 18:00Speaker 3: but we still got to get our money.
- 18:01Speaker 8: Like, we won you a championship. And it's not even
- 18:04Speaker 8: like they're being disrespectful. They be like, yo, we'll take
- 18:06Speaker 8: a pay cut. Just don't be too disrespectful with the
- 18:08Speaker 8: pay cut. Just don't be disrespectful. I'll take a hometown discount.
- 18:12Speaker 8: But just don't be too disrespectful with it.
- 18:14Speaker 3: That's what reports are saying, too. It's not that Karl-Anthony
- 18:17Speaker 3: Towns is demanding the max, and that's why they're not
- 18:19Speaker 3: reaching an agreement. He's saying, yo, I'm willing to shave
- 18:22Speaker 3: a little— a little I'm willing to shave off money
- 18:27Speaker 3: but not that much like 77 million dollars y'all want
- 18:30Speaker 3: me to to take off the top no I'm not doing.
- 18:32Speaker 8: That and the thing about it is you think as
- 18:35Speaker 8: the owner you're putting the player in a predicament where
- 18:38Speaker 8: it's like oh fans are gonna look at him crazy
- 18:40Speaker 8: no they're gonna look at you like No, we want
- 18:42Speaker 8: to start with the players. Because even if he leaves,
- 18:44Speaker 8: God forbid, even if he leaves, it'll be one of
- 18:47Speaker 8: those situations where he's still getting his New York credit
- 18:50Speaker 8: for bringing us the ring. He still can eat out
- 18:53Speaker 8: anywhere for free, probably. And it's just going to look
- 18:56Speaker 8: bad that you didn't pay him. That's about it.
- 18:59Speaker 11: Yeah, man.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It's crazy. Next preseason underway. They play another preseason game
- 19:04Speaker 3: versus Philly. First preseason game at the Gardens coming up
- 19:07Speaker 3: this week. So I believe tomorrow. So we'll talk about that. Listen,
- 19:12Speaker 3: Knicks in 26 is done. They got it done, right?
- 19:16Speaker 3: While Knicks in 27 don't got the same ring to it,
- 19:19Speaker 3: that's still very much the goal like Corey said. It's
- 19:21Speaker 3: the It's the legitimacy of it. And I'm not saying
- 19:24Speaker 3: the Knicks championship, they need to win this year to
- 19:26Speaker 3: back it up. But like you said, bro, like this
- 19:29Speaker 3: is the gold. This is our generation by far the
- 19:33Speaker 3: golden age of Knicks basketball. We just want it to
- 19:35Speaker 3: stay this way. It's like being in heaven. And it's like,
- 19:39Speaker 3: I can't get kicked out of heaven. Like, yo, let's
- 19:43Speaker 3: get it right. Tell me what I was about to say.
- 19:45Speaker 8: It don't sign, it don't, Knicks of 26, it don't
- 19:47Speaker 8: got to ring to it, but I'll say, Knicks bringing
- 19:49Speaker 8: the chip back, hey, Knicks of 27 bringing the chip
- 19:52Speaker 8: back to heaven.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey. See, we already warmed up
- 19:59Speaker 3: on the recess bell on there, so much more to
- 20:01Speaker 3: come on the Knicks side of things, but what is
- 20:03Speaker 3: to come on tonight's Bro, so Lotus Sports Report, we'll
- 20:08Speaker 3: talk about the Knicks and everything else. So we have
- 20:11Speaker 3: our longest sports report ever coming up in hour number two, bro.
- 20:16Speaker 3: I say ever.
- 20:18Speaker 6: Ever.
- 20:20Speaker 3: It's going to be a long one because think about
- 20:21Speaker 3: the great month, the great sports month that October is.
- 20:25Speaker 3: We got... Major League Baseball postseason. WNBA postseason. Put a
- 20:29Speaker 3: bookmark in.
- 20:33Speaker 12: There.
- 20:35Speaker 8: We got some hate watches going on right now. But yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 8: you got NFL season in full swing. NBA starting to
- 20:41Speaker 8: rear back. We have the season tipping off in Madison
- 20:43Speaker 8: Square Garden in 13 days.
- 20:45Speaker 3: Like what a great month. for sports october is so
- 20:48Speaker 3: i gotta come with the mega sports report tonight it
- 20:52Speaker 3: is what it.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Is it's like i'm swimming in sports right now swimming yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 3: It's like everywhere you look it's like yo and i'm
- 20:58Speaker 3: not a betting man but i know everybody on fan
- 21:00Speaker 3: doing draft kings going crazy hey they they going stupid
- 21:05Speaker 3: and cory's looking like i ain't me.
- 21:07Speaker 8: It's like all i know is hey I think I.
- 21:12Speaker 3: We dropped... We've been dropping bags. Oh, no.
- 21:16Speaker 10: Is that.
- 21:19Speaker 3: Right?
- 21:20Speaker 8: There's a team down in New Orleans who cost me
- 21:22Speaker 8: a hefty amount.
- 21:24Speaker 3: We'll get to your sports betting escapades.
- 21:27Speaker 11: In a little bit.
- 21:28Speaker 8: Didn't want to give Kamara the ball, huh?
- 21:30Speaker 3: Ah, there it is. The New Orleans Saints, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:36Speaker 3: I got some words for New Orleans, bro.
- 21:37Speaker 8: Tell me if I've seen a video of Zion Williamson
- 21:41Speaker 8: in preseason. The vert is gone, bro, brother.
- 21:44Speaker 3: The vert is gone. Ah, man. New Orleans sports is
- 21:47Speaker 3: not in great shape right now.
- 21:48Speaker 8: The freaks drained him. Literally and figuratively.
- 21:53Speaker 6: Wow.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Hey!
- 21:56Speaker 3: We'll talk about all of that. Again, mega sports report
- 21:58Speaker 3: coming in hour number two. Later in hour number one here,
- 22:00Speaker 3: of course. Man, listen, we covered it last week's show,
- 22:04Speaker 3: the mess that's happening on Cornell University. And some might say,
- 22:08Speaker 3: you know, allegedly, I got to be careful. Allegedly, allegedly, allegedly, allegedly.
- 22:12Speaker 3: The illegality of the things happening on Cornell's campus. We
- 22:15Speaker 3: got the TRB News report covering all of that. And
- 22:19Speaker 3: we talked about it last week, bro, just the normalization
- 22:22Speaker 3: of cruelty in some college circles. We know how the
- 22:24Speaker 3: frat boy stuff gets. And I said it last week.
- 22:27Speaker 3: I'm somebody, the whole frat, the frat and sorority stuff, fraternity, sororities,
- 22:32Speaker 3: I never understood it. Now, you say that around the
- 22:36Speaker 3: wrong people and they whip their pitchforks out. Like, damn,
- 22:41Speaker 3: I'm sorry, but it's just not for me. I never
- 22:43Speaker 3: understood it. Like, I try to be my own man.
- 22:47Speaker 3: But some people feel more comfortable in groups where they
- 22:50Speaker 3: allegedly sexually assault women. That whole story is wild.
- 22:55Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 3: So we'll talk about the Cornell 7, as they call it,
- 23:00Speaker 3: and the group chat, everything. We got a news report
- 23:03Speaker 3: coming on that, like I said, later in this hour.
- 23:06Speaker 3: But for now, Joshua, Yamahi, myself, and Corey David will
- 23:10Speaker 3: be back after this. Shaq and Kobe. Oh, see?
- 23:13Speaker 11: There you go.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yeah, we be fighting over the ball, too. Yeah, we've
- 23:16Speaker 3: been fighting over the amount of shots we've got to take.
- 23:18Speaker 3: That is a perfect comparison. Joshua, Imahi, Corey, David, coming
- 23:21Speaker 3: back on the recess. Bell on air after this music
- 23:23Speaker 3: medley here on the voice of Nassau Community College. 90.3 WHPC.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Who's calling it?
- 23:30Speaker 4: Who's calling it?
- 23:34Speaker 14: Who?
- 23:36Speaker 12: Who?
- 23:37Speaker 14: Who?

- 23:44Speaker 7: Feel like we need to be all alone.
- 24:02Speaker 12: So if you just playing around, you need to tell
- 24:03Speaker 12: your girl, take a fine home, and that's real. Stop
- 24:06Speaker 12: teasing me. Stop teasing me. I could change your life
- 24:10Speaker 12: so easily. I keep begging you to stay, but you're
- 24:12Speaker 12: leaving me.
- 24:14Speaker 6: Leaving me.
- 24:14Speaker 12: We got sticks in the club illegally. Got the whole
- 24:17Speaker 12: six side, they believe in me. We got members east
- 24:19Speaker 12: of the DVP. We got members west on the 401.
- 24:22Speaker 3: We got a lock on the game, but there's more
- 24:23Speaker 3: to come.
- 24:24Speaker 12: You got to pop that after the morning come.
- 24:26Speaker 3: You want shots for the girl, then order some. What's
- 24:28Speaker 3: coming up? Who's calling it? Who's calling it? Who's calling it?
- 24:37Speaker 2: Who?
- 24:37Speaker 3: Who?
- 24:38Speaker 10: Who?
- 24:39Speaker 4: Who?
- 24:40Speaker 3: Who?
- 24:42Speaker 5: Who?
- 24:43Speaker 8: Is it Stacey?
- 24:45Speaker 2: Is it Becky?
- 24:47Speaker 6: Is it Keyshawn?
- 24:48Speaker 3: Is it Ashley? Danny? Is it Hearty?
- 24:54Speaker 8: Where's the function?
- 24:55Speaker 3: Where's the function? Where's the function? the recess bell letting

- 26:58Speaker 4: I'm a ice ball.
- 26:58Speaker 3: We all like whiskey. I'm an actual life.

- 27:09Speaker 7: This is your spot for creativity, spontaneity, positivity, and hyperactivity.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Why can't you just sit still.

- 30:10Speaker 2: That came along with me, true. You did a lot
- 30:17Speaker 2: of things. When normally you do.
- 30:23Speaker 1: While I appreciate how much you give to others.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Can't help but wonder, oh.
- 30:32Speaker 1: They do the same for you.
- 30:35Speaker 15: Girl, you're truly a 101 But remember to take care,
- 30:40Speaker 15: number one Girl, you're truly a 101 But remember to
- 30:55Speaker 15: take care, number one. And you know, know, know that
- 31:00Speaker 15: you're the dying bee.
- 31:24Speaker 3: But what it's worth, girl, you inspire me. Mark Sanchez
- 31:31Speaker 3: being arrested after getting stabbed. Third worst day in his life.
- 31:36Speaker 3: Anybody want to guess what the first two were? I'll
- 31:38Speaker 3: tell you. Number one, getting drafted by the Jets. Worst
- 31:41Speaker 3: day of his life, bar none, right? I wasn't even
- 31:45Speaker 3: going there. And then obviously the butt fumble. You right,
- 31:48Speaker 3: you right. We remember the butt fumble, yo. He ran
- 31:53Speaker 3: right into his.
- 31:54Speaker 17: Offensive lineman's backside and fumbled the ball. Patriots on Thanksgiving Day,
- 31:59Speaker 17: mind you. Everybody's watching. They took it back for a touchdown.
- 32:03Speaker 17: The butt fumble, right? The third worst day in Mark
- 32:05Speaker 17: Sanchez's life. Getting arrested after getting stabbed. In all seriousness,
- 32:12Speaker 17: here are the charges that Sanchez faces. Battery with injury.
- 32:18Speaker 17: That's misdemeanor number one. There's more coming.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Unlawful entry of a motor vehicle. Misdemeanor number two. Public intoxication.
- 32:30Speaker 3: Misdemeanor numero tres. And then a felony. A felony battery
- 32:37Speaker 3: charge which carries a potential sentence of one to six
- 32:41Speaker 3: years behind bars. Oh, how far the franchise has fallen. Crazy.
- 32:58Speaker 3: You know, I've never had the pleasure. Allegedly. Allegedly. Allegedly.
- 33:03Speaker 12: Allegedly.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Or the displeasure of being a Jets fan. I really
- 33:06Speaker 3: wonder how it is over there. You know one year
- 33:08Speaker 3: they almost got me. They almost got me.
- 33:12Speaker 8: They almost got me in 2009. They almost got me.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Is that right? You was drinking the green Kool-Aid.
- 33:21Speaker 8: Because I want to say coming into 2010, hard knocks, man.
- 33:25Speaker 8: Hard knocks, the TV show with the Jets that year.
- 33:28Speaker 8: i ain't going for it they did they did they
- 33:31Speaker 8: the levels of pr that they got from that i
- 33:33Speaker 8: was like this why do i know this whole team
- 33:35Speaker 8: now i feel connected you.
- 33:39Speaker 13: Had to wash the stench off i'm like i'm like
- 33:44Speaker 13: you had daryl revis antonio camardi uh jericho cotri santonio
- 33:49Speaker 13: holmes uh i think they still had thomas uh Thomas
- 33:55Speaker 13: has a running back, and they had Shane Green.
- 33:58Speaker 8: Oh, that tandem. Thomas Jones and Sean Green. And Sean Green.
- 34:04Speaker 8: That was a combo. And I was like, they made
- 34:07Speaker 8: it back-to-back AFC championships. I said to them, I was like,
- 34:12Speaker 8: should I become a Jets fan? I was like, I
- 34:14Speaker 8: was glad I swayed away from that and didn't go
- 34:16Speaker 8: down that evil path.
- 34:18Speaker 3: You know, I have this theory because, you know, we
- 34:20Speaker 3: talked about the Knicks earlier and how crazy we all
- 34:22Speaker 3: went when we celebrated. When the Jets ever, I mean,
- 34:25Speaker 3: if the Jets ever win the Super Bowl, Jets fans will,
- 34:29Speaker 3: I mean, they're lesser in number than Knicks fans, but
- 34:31Speaker 3: they will be tearing the city up. I can guarantee that.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Good job, man.
- 34:35Speaker 8: Hoy, our last NBA championship before this one was 73, right?
- 34:40Speaker 5: Yep.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Theirs was like 60-something, right?
- 34:43Speaker 8: Damn, yeah, Super Bowl III. Yeah, of course they did.
- 34:50Speaker 8: They've been in torment ever since.
- 34:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Joe Namath and them won that Super Bowl.
- 34:55Speaker 8: Could you imagine being born a Jets and Nets fan?
- 35:01Speaker 3: I do know somebody like that, and I check in
- 35:04Speaker 3: on them every day. I just check on their mental
- 35:06Speaker 3: health every other day. Like, you good? Like, how we doing?
- 35:08Speaker 8: Like, what type of torture would you do to put
- 35:10Speaker 8: your kid through that?
- 35:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not great. Welcome back to the Recess Bell
- 35:15Speaker 3: on air, by the way. We are here on the
- 35:18Speaker 3: voice of Nassau Community College, 100.3 WHPC. Joshua Imahi. I
- 35:23Speaker 3: ain't a player. I just crush a lot.
- 35:25Speaker 8: I respect it.
- 35:27Speaker 3: I respect it. That's all I'm saying. Joined by Corey
- 35:29Speaker 3: David this evening. You can join the show, too. Why
- 35:31Speaker 3: the hell not, right?
- 35:32Speaker 4: 516-572-7440.
- 35:33Speaker 3: Call or text. What's up, Corey? I was about to
- 35:38Speaker 3: say what you said. I'm not a player. I just
- 35:39Speaker 3: crushed it. You know what I thought about? Fat Joe said,
- 35:42Speaker 3: I'm the blackest you know.
- 35:47Speaker 4: Hey, yo.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I'm telling you, these Puerto Ricans out here in New York, bro,
- 35:52Speaker 3: they be wildin'. He ain't even Fat Joe no more.
- 35:54Speaker 3: It's Black Joe.
- 35:55Speaker 1: They.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Yo, they believe that, some of them really do believe,
- 36:00Speaker 3: these Tararekans, that they are black in spirit.
- 36:04Speaker 8: Now, the funniest part about that is, my nephew, Ken,
- 36:10Speaker 8: is one of the few that can actually say the word.
- 36:12Speaker 8: Because you just have black compared to Puerto Rico.
- 36:17Speaker 3: Listen, listen. As far as saying the word, I'm not
- 36:19Speaker 3: handing out no cards, but I do understand the culture
- 36:21Speaker 3: out here in New York.
- 36:22Speaker 8: Tell me why I got a half black, half Puerto
- 36:24Speaker 8: Rican nephew. I have a half black Dominican and El Salvadorian,
- 36:30Speaker 8: Dominican and El Salvadorian niece.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Two different relatives, two different, two different siblings.
- 36:37Speaker 8: So my brother, my brother's niece is half black, half Dominican.
- 36:43Speaker 8: And my sister, my sister's son, who's in, who's about
- 36:46Speaker 8: to go, who's in his senior year, half black, half
- 36:49Speaker 8: Puerto Rican.
- 36:51Speaker 3: I'm laughing because now I'm thinking about all the possibilities
- 36:54Speaker 3: I would have had based on people I dated. I
- 36:57Speaker 3: had Nigerian Puerto Ricans running around. Could have had like
- 37:00Speaker 3: Nigerian Dominicans running around like crazy combinations. What would the
- 37:03Speaker 3: height look like? My boy, I heard you. I'm hearing you.
- 37:10Speaker 3: You out here. You go. My God, you do the unthinkable.
- 37:14Speaker 8: When they say you can't watch me.
- 37:19Speaker 3: OK, so I have to explain now when it comes
- 37:22Speaker 3: to my real briefly, when it comes to my thing
- 37:24Speaker 3: with tall woman, right? Because I am a short king.
- 37:27Speaker 3: When it comes to my thing with tall women, yeah,
- 37:29Speaker 3: I do kind of feel like I do kind of
- 37:32Speaker 3: carry a sense of accomplishment after the fact. Like during
- 37:35Speaker 3: and after the fact, I'm like, yeah, I did that.
- 37:39Speaker 3: I climbed that tree.
- 37:40Speaker 8: I just want to add that this may be a
- 37:41Speaker 8: little too impersonal.
- 37:43Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 37:43Speaker 8: What's the tallest?
- 37:44Speaker 3: What's the tallest?
- 37:45Speaker 11: Oh, man.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Oh, man. You ain't hitting the sixes, right? No, no, no, no, no.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Just short of it. Just a little taller. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:54Speaker 8: I've heard stories of people who managed to get 6'5
- 37:58Speaker 8: and up.
- 37:59Speaker 3: That I have not done. I've stayed in the fives,
- 38:03Speaker 3: like 5'10, which is a little wild.
- 38:06Speaker 8: I'm going to try to avoid my situation one day.
- 38:11Speaker 3: Seek out a tall woman intentionally to raise basketball kids. Interesting.
- 38:16Speaker 8: Got to get the genetics right, my brother.
- 38:19Speaker 3: You know, Corey... it's we not to change the subject
- 38:22Speaker 3: abruptly but uh it's been a minute since i've been
- 38:24Speaker 3: in studio right so i'm just happy to be because
- 38:27Speaker 3: we when we uh do shows elsewhere i don't have
- 38:29Speaker 3: the full capability of my precious soundboard right so i'm
- 38:35Speaker 3: i'm just looking through my things like damn like i
- 38:37Speaker 3: i really haven't been playing a lot of these lately
- 38:40Speaker 3: oh by the way everybody listening to trb right now

- 38:49Speaker 11: Thanks for coming.
- 38:51Speaker 8: Don't get me started on it, mister. Once you find
- 38:53Speaker 8: out you're not guilty of a crime, it's like, oh,
- 38:55Speaker 8: I'm Mr.
- 38:56Speaker 10: Happy.
- 38:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:58Speaker 8: He escaped that Rico. He started wearing accessories now.
- 39:02Speaker 3: You see that?
- 39:03Speaker 11: I'm a fun guy.
- 39:04Speaker 3: I did see that.
- 39:05Speaker 8: He wear arm sleeves. I was like, you ain't never
- 39:08Speaker 8: wear arm sleeves in your life.
- 39:10Speaker 11: I love the game of basketball.
- 39:11Speaker 8: Hey, what robot are you playing?
- 39:14Speaker 3: That's not a real person. That's Kawhi. That's not a
- 39:16Speaker 3: real person. That's a robot.
- 39:18Speaker 11: Everyone, thanks for coming.
- 39:20Speaker 3: Ain't no way, though. I love Kawhi. Everybody, thanks for coming.
- 39:30Speaker 8: My name is kawaii leonard like no emotion.

- 39:36Speaker 3: throw a party everyone thanks for coming just walking around
- 39:39Speaker 3: undiagnosed god damn This one from Jalen Hurts. Jalen Hurts,
- 39:44Speaker 3: how do you feel about how your Philadelphia Eagles played
- 39:46Speaker 3: this past week?
- 39:47Speaker 9: Poor execution.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Oh, well, okay. Anything else? Poor execution. Anything else? Poor execution. Yes,
- 39:54Speaker 3: that's about right. A lot of Eagles talk during the
- 39:56Speaker 3: sports report hour number two. NBA media days passed this
- 40:01Speaker 3: last week, Corey. It was last Monday where all the
- 40:03Speaker 3: teams had the media days, all the players going to
- 40:05Speaker 3: their press conferences. Let's go to San Antonio real quick.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Stephon Castle was talking to the media over there until
- 40:12Speaker 3: this happened. for the most part bruh somebody said they
- 40:20Speaker 3: was trying to make Wim be taller back there he
- 40:23Speaker 3: was trying to stretch his legs out for the most
- 40:24Speaker 3: part I.
- 40:25Speaker 8: Believe Stefan Kass is from New York right He is
- 40:28Speaker 8: from Queens. I don't like him.
- 40:30Speaker 3: I don't like him. You know, I don't like him,
- 40:32Speaker 3: and I don't like Rutgers' own Dylan Harper. I don't
- 40:37Speaker 3: like them.
- 40:38Speaker 8: You know, I don't care really about Dylan. Stephon Kasper
- 40:43Speaker 8: just made me feel the way how he was talking
- 40:44Speaker 8: in that series. He was talking crazy.
- 40:47Speaker 3: All of them were. That's what made the Knicks championship
- 40:49Speaker 3: so satisfying. Like, y'all was talking that talk like y'all
- 40:52Speaker 3: a better team, but we walked y'all down every single time.
- 40:55Speaker 8: Yeah, get y'all that belt.
- 40:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 8: And then I feel like, yo, I could be bugging.
- 41:00Speaker 8: He was talking crazy after the beating.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Sure was. I was like, you can't do that. Yeah,
- 41:05Speaker 3: Wemby was like, we absolutely dominated the entire series. That's
- 41:08Speaker 3: an exact quote.
- 41:09Speaker 8: I was like, yo, you can't. I felt like Marksdale
- 41:13Speaker 8: off the white. You can't do that. That's not part
- 41:15Speaker 8: of the game. You can't talk after you lost. Absolutely dominated,
- 41:19Speaker 8: but got walked down. I don't know how that works exactly, but,
- 41:21Speaker 8: you know, shout out to the San Antonio Spurs.
- 41:23Speaker 3: For the most part. Nah, I had a joke. I
- 41:30Speaker 3: am not saying that joke a lot. You know when
- 41:34Speaker 3: you think of something so crazy and it's just like, yeah,
- 41:37Speaker 3: just say that. Yeah, I definitely get what you mean.

- 44:23Speaker 3: we brought up. No, not yet. As we brought up.
- 44:29Speaker 3: Got to get a swing of things. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 44:33Speaker 3: As we brought up during our first block or a block,
- 44:35Speaker 3: we have to talk about the Cornell stuff on a
- 44:37Speaker 3: news report. Second straight week. We're going to get into it.
- 44:40Speaker 3: More troubling developments given the alleged sexual assault that took
- 44:44Speaker 3: place in the Kaifi fraternity with a Jane Doe. They're
- 44:48Speaker 3: trying to dock this woman to on various channels of
- 44:50Speaker 3: social media. And I want to have a conversation, an
- 44:54Speaker 3: extended conversation from last week, excuse me, about some of
- 44:59Speaker 3: the troubling culture in a lot of these college campuses.
- 45:02Speaker 3: I'm a student, Corey, you've been a student. It's something
- 45:05Speaker 3: we got to talk about on a college campus. Should
- 45:07Speaker 3: we not? So let's get to it. Sounds like a
- 45:12Speaker 3: lot of hoopla. Sounds like a lot of hoopla. Sounds
- 45:17Speaker 3: like a hoopla.
- 45:24Speaker 11: This is the Recess Bell's News Report, brought to you
- 45:27Speaker 11: by the Recess Bell LLC, the network for creatives. The
- 45:31Speaker 11: voices you are about to hear are not those of
- 45:32Speaker 11: official political analysts, rather just football sitting in a room
- 45:34Speaker 11: discussing politics just like you would at the family table
- 45:35Speaker 11: with your friends. Please do not hold the voices you
- 45:36Speaker 11: are about to hear to the same standard as we
- 45:37Speaker 11: would official commentators and contributors on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News,
- 45:40Speaker 11: or any other licensed news company.
- 45:45Speaker 3: That disclaimer moves quick. If you missed that one, don't
- 45:48Speaker 3: hit up the recess bell. Listen, I don't even text
- 45:50Speaker 3: my family back. I'm not going to hold you. I'm
- 45:52Speaker 3: not going to read your complaints and then be like,
- 45:54Speaker 3: oh my God, this is what they think of us.
- 45:55Speaker 6: No, no.
- 45:57Speaker 3: Here's what you do. WHPC at NCC.edu. Hit up that
- 46:01Speaker 3: email address. Our dedicated station director will field all of
- 46:09Speaker 3: your complaints on our behalf. That being said, let's get
- 46:12Speaker 3: to it. Your news anchor, Joshua Umahi. The latest from
- 46:31Speaker 3: Cornell University one week following TRB's initial report on the
- 46:37Speaker 3: ever evolving situation on that campus following explosive allegations of
- 46:41Speaker 3: a 2024 rape on campus that may have been swept
- 46:46Speaker 3: under the rug by Cornell. With that, we turn to
- 46:50Speaker 3: CBS News national correspondent Lilia Luciano for the report.
- 46:54Speaker 18: We've learned from records that less than 24 hours before
- 46:58Speaker 18: the woman who now we know as Jane Doe alleges
- 47:01Speaker 18: she was sexually assaulted at that fraternity house, Cornell University
- 47:06Speaker 18: police conducted an arrest, a drug-related arrest at that Chi
- 47:10Speaker 18: Phi fraternity house that has since been closed. Also, over
- 47:14Speaker 18: the weekend, the university's president says that he welcomes an
- 47:17Speaker 18: independent review into how the school handled the case.
- 47:23Speaker 3: This has been one of the most difficult weeks in
- 47:26Speaker 3: our history.
- 47:27Speaker 18: In a video statement Saturday, Cornell president Michael Kotlikoff said
- 47:30Speaker 18: the university must do better, following Jane Doe's allegations in
- 47:34Speaker 18: a lawsuit that she was sexually assaulted at the Chi
- 47:37Speaker 18: Phi fraternity house in 2024.
- 47:38Speaker 3: It raises heartbreaking and troubling issues. about sexual assault, dehumanization,
- 47:46Speaker 3: and aspects of party culture.
- 47:48Speaker 18: Last week, New York Governor Kathy Hochul appointed the state's
- 47:51Speaker 18: attorney general to investigate Jane Doe's allegations.
- 47:54Speaker 3: Yeah, that's Letitia James that is on Cornell investigating everything.
- 47:59Speaker 3: Let's hear more from CBS national correspondent Lilia Luciano.
- 48:05Speaker 18: The lawsuit includes messages in a Snapchat group with dozens
- 48:09Speaker 18: of Chi Phi fraternity brothers from the night of the
- 48:11Speaker 18: alleged sexual assault, with one man advertising free sex and
- 48:15Speaker 18: another saying you can walk in and whip it out.
- 48:19Speaker 18: Transcripts of Jane Doe's interviews with Cornell police weeks later
- 48:22Speaker 18: show she said, quote, I can say with 100 percent
- 48:26Speaker 18: confidence I was raped.
- 48:28Speaker 3: Now, that's a one hell of a statement to close that,
- 48:31Speaker 3: by the way. But we talked last week, Corey, about
- 48:33Speaker 3: this group chat, this Chi Phi group chat. And they
- 48:35Speaker 3: were talking about Kai Fee, excuse me. This Kai Fee
- 48:38Speaker 3: group chat, they were talking about the woman had arrived
- 48:42Speaker 3: to the fraternity house and they were saying, no, basically
- 48:44Speaker 3: free vagina. And now you're saying stuff like, oh, you
- 48:47Speaker 3: can walk in and whip it out. I'm trying to
- 48:52Speaker 3: tell you about these frats, bro. Just legal gangbangers. Yeah,
- 48:59Speaker 3: let's Lillia Luciano has more for us. Let's continue with
- 49:02Speaker 3: the CBS News report.
- 49:04Speaker 18: The Tompkins County District Attorney has said that comment was
- 49:07Speaker 18: not in Jane Doe's sworn six-page statement police submitted to
- 49:11Speaker 18: his office. Is there anything criminal there?
- 49:14Speaker 3: It's vulgar, it's disgusting, it's morally reprehensible, but it did
- 49:18Speaker 3: not specifically address the issue of whether Jane Doe could
- 49:22Speaker 3: have consented or was consenting.
- 49:24Speaker 18: But The New York Times is reporting the DA's office
- 49:26Speaker 18: actually denied the opportunity to review additional statements during the
- 49:30Speaker 18: initial police investigation. Records show that a Cornell investigator told
- 49:35Speaker 18: members of the DA's office that campus police conducted additional interviews,
- 49:40Speaker 18: reviewed messages, logged tips, and contacted people connected to the case.
- 49:45Speaker 18: But based on that six-page statement, the DA's office decided
- 49:48Speaker 18: criminal charges would not be pursued in the case. In
- 49:51Speaker 18: a statement to CBS News, the DA's office said, the
- 49:54Speaker 18: interviews being cited here were essentially each of the seven
- 49:57Speaker 18: suspects telling police that they would not speak to them
- 50:01Speaker 18: on the advice of their counsel.
- 50:03Speaker 3: Just want a clarification. Just want a clarification.
- 50:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:06Speaker 8: Because, you know, I'm a very, I'm a politician back.
- 50:10Speaker 8: But I meant that, I meant as far as how
- 50:12Speaker 8: I view frats as like legal gangs, basically.
- 50:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Just want, just want to, just want to point
- 50:18Speaker 3: that out. Good job. Oh, unfortunately, there's more to this report.
- 50:24Speaker 3: And you heard in that last snippet, Corey, how They
- 50:29Speaker 3: declined the file charges and Cornell handed all these files over,
- 50:33Speaker 3: but they basically saw everything at first and was like, nah,
- 50:36Speaker 3: I'm good. Because what happened, yes, they interviewed or attempted
- 50:40Speaker 3: to interview the Cornell seven, right? These seven guys, but
- 50:43Speaker 3: each of them said through their lawyers, we will not
- 50:46Speaker 3: be providing comment at this time. So the DA saw
- 50:49Speaker 3: that and was like, okay, we're just going to stop trying. Interesting.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Lilia Luciano finishes up her report on CBS News.
- 50:58Speaker 18: CBS News has obtained a copy of the six-page statement
- 51:01Speaker 18: where Jane Doe describes being drunk that night and taking ketamine,
- 51:05Speaker 18: saying she felt coerced.' I felt like I was unable
- 51:08Speaker 18: to make any decisions because of how intoxicated I was.'
- 51:12Speaker 18: Jane Doe's lawyer told us there was no question over
- 51:15Speaker 18: the issue of consent. What was the point of no consent?
- 51:20Speaker 18: When was that line crossed?
- 51:21Speaker 14: She didn't have consent from the time she walked in
- 51:23Speaker 14: the door. She was incapable of consent. She was completely,
- 51:26Speaker 14: grossly intoxicated. She wouldn't be legal to drive. She wouldn't
- 51:30Speaker 14: be legal to do anything. So is she legal to
- 51:33Speaker 14: consent to anything? I don't think so.
- 51:35Speaker 18: Jane Doe's attorney also says that she has received multiple threats,
- 51:38Speaker 18: that bad actors online have been trying to out her identity,
- 51:42Speaker 18: including some misidentifying women wrongly as Jane Doe. We, CBS News,
- 51:47Speaker 18: have reached out to all of the seven men named
- 51:50Speaker 18: in the lawsuit. Attorneys for two of them have responded
- 51:53Speaker 18: to us denying the allegations. They also say their clients
- 51:56Speaker 18: and themselves, the lawyers, have also received threats.
- 52:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:00Speaker 3: So and we talked about this when we talked about
- 52:02Speaker 3: Lindsay Clancy a few weeks ago. And then when we
- 52:04Speaker 3: talked about this situation last week, once these cases reach
- 52:09Speaker 3: the crazy field of social media and they're talking about
- 52:13Speaker 3: it on The View and it's getting all this coverage.
- 52:17Speaker 3: That's when you unfortunately start going into Looney Tunes land
- 52:20Speaker 3: where you have people trying to dox the woman. They
- 52:22Speaker 3: have people harassing. and pulling up on campus to these
- 52:27Speaker 3: seven guys.
- 52:27Speaker 8: I've seen that video where they pulled up on Sunday
- 52:30Speaker 8: and I was like, how are you still on campus?
- 52:33Speaker 3: That was my question.
- 52:34Speaker 8: I would think that in this moment, there would be
- 52:40Speaker 8: like a suspension or probation period where it's like you're
- 52:44Speaker 8: not allowed on campus until this is rectified.
- 52:47Speaker 3: You took the words out of my mouth, boo. And
- 52:51Speaker 3: this fraternity... Like they're well established. There had been well
- 52:56Speaker 3: established in the campus. Like everybody knew these guys essentially.
- 52:59Speaker 3: And by the way, the group chat that we mentioned,
- 53:01Speaker 3: they was talking about free vagina and you can whip
- 53:03Speaker 3: it out. Just walking through the door. Like it was
- 53:07Speaker 3: 50 people deep. So and apparently there was one person
- 53:13Speaker 3: in this group chat that had gotten in contact with
- 53:15Speaker 3: this Jane Doe, the alleged victim, and was saying like, yeah, nah,
- 53:19Speaker 3: like what they did was crazy. you know, feeding her
- 53:23Speaker 3: alcohol and ketamine too. I had to, because this is
- 53:26Speaker 3: far out of my scope. I have no idea through
- 53:28Speaker 3: personal experience what ketamine does to the body. It's apparently
- 53:32Speaker 3: a dissociative drug. And it's used for pain management mainly. Again,
- 53:37Speaker 3: way out of my scope, but just feel the need
- 53:38Speaker 3: to reemphasize that. Crazy situation. I think it highlights, like
- 53:43Speaker 3: I said, Corey, before a lot of the cultures on
- 53:45Speaker 3: college campuses. Very toxic. Very toxic. And by the way,
- 53:49Speaker 3: it starts at the top because from everything you're reading
- 53:53Speaker 3: in these reports, Cornell had every opportunity to do more
- 53:56Speaker 3: than they did. But it seemed like we see with
- 53:58Speaker 3: a lot of these other colleges in similar situations, anything
- 54:01Speaker 3: that's going to bring us negative press like this, oh no,
- 54:04Speaker 3: rape culture on campus, sweep it under the rug. sweep
- 54:07Speaker 3: it right under the rug, sweep it under the couch,
- 54:08Speaker 3: sweep it into the closet. We don't want to touch it.
- 54:10Speaker 3: We don't want to talk about it. We'll just let
- 54:12Speaker 3: time pass. Time is the best healer, right? People will
- 54:15Speaker 3: forget about it until the civil lawsuit that Jane Doe
- 54:18Speaker 3: pressed that led to the charges getting refiled. And now
- 54:21Speaker 3: they looking dumb with egg on their face because you
- 54:23Speaker 3: had every opportunity in 2024 to do more than you did.
- 54:26Speaker 3: And you didn't.
- 54:27Speaker 8: And this is unfortunate that these are so common on
- 54:30Speaker 8: these campuses. Like, I feel like the majority of college
- 54:35Speaker 8: campuses have these stories, unfortunately.
- 54:37Speaker 3: You hear a lot about it.
- 54:38Speaker 8: And I'm talking about from the aspect of the college
- 54:41Speaker 8: is trying to sweep it also under the rug.
- 54:42Speaker 3: Absolutely. I mean, listen, we've watched Law & Order. We've
- 54:44Speaker 3: watched all these shows. It's art imitates life or life
- 54:48Speaker 3: imitates art, whatever you want to say. But listen, anything
- 54:51Speaker 3: that's going to bring bad publicity, especially something that serious,
- 54:55Speaker 3: it's like, oh, no, we don't want to touch this.
- 54:57Speaker 3: We don't want stories about assault on our campus. Let's just...
- 55:02Speaker 3: sweep it under the rug. And now it's uncontrollable. You
- 55:05Speaker 3: have marches going on the campus. We brought up the
- 55:07Speaker 3: New York attorney general on campus for several hours a day.
- 55:13Speaker 3: Like it's chaos over there. It's straight chaos over there
- 55:16Speaker 3: in Cornell. So, and again, this happened, let me remind everybody,
- 55:21Speaker 3: this happened in 2024. We're in 2026. So this is
- 55:22Speaker 3: two years of lackluster, haphazard handling of all of this,
- 55:35Speaker 3: all the things in this situation. It's unfortunate. You said it, Corey.
- 55:38Speaker 3: It just highlights the toxicity that happens on college campuses.
- 55:41Speaker 3: I brought up last week about the normalization of cruelty.
- 55:44Speaker 3: I mean, to stoop that low to the point where
- 55:46Speaker 3: you're texting, you know, free pee, free pee in a
- 55:49Speaker 3: group chat is nuts.
- 55:50Speaker 8: That's a wild statement just to have in there. It's like, no.
- 55:55Speaker 8: Y'all don't monitor what y'all say. Y'all just say anything.
- 56:01Speaker 8: And the fact that this is coming back to bite him,
- 56:02Speaker 8: I'm glad. I'm glad you're stupid enough to put something
- 56:06Speaker 8: like that. And now it's finally coming back to get you.
- 56:09Speaker 3: There was another message in that group chat, by the way.
- 56:11Speaker 3: They were talking about some, oh, I hope this one
- 56:15Speaker 3: isn't fat. Wait, what do you mean this one? Do
- 56:23Speaker 3: y'all have a lot of history with these fraternity... I
- 56:28Speaker 3: don't even want to say hookups. It feels like you're
- 56:31Speaker 3: kind of walking these women into a trap, allegedly. It's
- 56:33Speaker 3: sounding like this isn't their first instance. It's not their
- 56:35Speaker 3: first rodeo. That's exactly what I'm trying to say. There's
- 56:38Speaker 3: interesting stuff out here, man.
- 56:39Speaker 11: So, yeah.
- 56:41Speaker 3: We will continue to monitor that story as... It continues
- 56:45Speaker 3: to get updated. News reports start to come out about it.
- 56:48Speaker 3: We'll bring those to you in future episodes of the
- 56:50Speaker 3: Recess Bell on there. But we are reaching the end
- 56:53Speaker 3: of our number one on our platform. When we come back,
- 56:56Speaker 3: we got our mega sports reports. Big sports month of October.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Big sports report. MLB postseason. WNBA playoffs. NBA preseason. NFL playoffs.
- 57:14Speaker 3: four weeks in heading into week five after tomorrow will
- 57:17Speaker 3: be five weeks in. And then there's, there's some things
- 57:22Speaker 3: I'm missing too, that I can't even just rattle off.
- 57:25Speaker 3: That's how much is happening in the month of October.
- 57:28Speaker 3: We'll get to that. Also a little TRB game picks
- 57:31Speaker 3: myself and Corey David will pick week fives NFL action.
- 57:36Speaker 3: So stick around for that. You don't want to miss it.
- 57:38Speaker 3: Always engaging TRB game picks. You don't want to miss.
- 57:41Speaker 3: And if you're a degenerate gambler, Oh, I'm sorry. Hey,
- 57:45Speaker 3: If you're a gambler, you definitely don't want to miss it.
- 57:47Speaker 3: We've got the spreads. We've got the over-unders. We've got
- 57:49Speaker 3: all that. So stick around for hour number two. Coming
- 57:53Speaker 3: up after this, the recess bell on air. The voice
- 57:56Speaker 3: of Nassau Community College, 90.3 WHPC.
- 58:09Speaker 16: To find you, playful boy, I nearly lost my mind.
- 58:15Speaker 16: Drive past your house every night in an unmarked car.
- 58:21Speaker 16: Wondering what you had on me to make you break
- 58:25Speaker 16: my heart.
- 58:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:31Speaker 3: I'm so gone. So gone.
