Transcript
- Lucas: Okay, Luna, so last time we were at the supermarket, you were looking for help. Ready to do it in Danish? Luna: Yes! I'm ready. But I need to practice the phrases again. Can we start with 'Undskyld, hvor er mælken?'? Lucas: Absolutely. That's a great one. 'Undskyld, hvor er mælken?' Listen again: 'Undskyld, hvor er mælken?' Luna: Undskyld, hvor er mælken? Lucas: Perfect! 'Undskyld' means 'excuse me,' and 'hvor er' means 'where is.' So you're saying, 'Excuse me, where is the milk?' Luna: Oh, that's so useful. So if I want to ask for fruits and vegetables, I say 'Hvor er frugt og grønt?' Lucas: Exactly! 'Hvor er frugt og grønt?' Try it. Luna: Hvor er frugt og grønt? Lucas: Good. And 'Jeg leder efter brød' means 'I'm looking for bread.' Listen: 'Jeg leder efter brød.' Luna: Jeg leder efter brød. That's for bread, right? Lucas: Yes. And when you find it, you might want to know the price. So you ask, 'Hvor meget koster det?' Luna: Hvor meget koster det? Lucas: Yes! And after someone helps you, you say 'Tak for hjælpen' — 'Thanks for the help.' Luna: Tak for hjælpen. Lucas: Great. Now let's put it together. Imagine you're in a supermarket. You can't find the milk. What do you say? Luna: Undskyld, hvor er mælken? Lucas: Right. And then the employee points you to the dairy section. You want to thank them. What do you say? Luna: Tak for hjælpen. That's so easy! Lucas: Exactly. Now, let's try a little scene. I'm the employee, you're the customer. Go ahead. Luna: Undskyld, jeg leder efter brød. Hvor er brødet? Lucas: Brødet er derovre, ved bageren. Luna: Hvor meget koster det? Lucas: Det koster 25 kroner. Luna: Tak for hjælpen. Lucas: Excellent! You did it. Now you can ask for help in Danish at the supermarket. Luna: Yeah, I feel more confident. But I need more practice. Can we do one more? Lucas: Of course. Let's do a quick review. Repeat after me: 'Undskyld, hvor er mælken?' Luna: Undskyld, hvor er mælken? Lucas: 'Hvor er frugt og grønt?' Luna: Hvor er frugt og grønt? Lucas: 'Jeg leder efter brød.' Luna: Jeg leder efter brød. Lucas: 'Hvor meget koster det?' Luna: Hvor meget koster det? Lucas: And finally, 'Tak for hjælpen.' Luna: Tak for hjælpen. Lucas: Perfect. You've got it. Now, if you ever find yourself in a Danish supermarket, you're all set. Luna: That's awesome. But you know, I've been thinking — it's because of shows like this that I can even have these practice conversations. And they're free. So if anyone listening has gotten value out of these episodes, maybe consider supporting Fexingo. Even a couple of bucks a month at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo makes a real difference. And now, back to Danish! Let's practice one more time with a full conversation. Luna: Sounds good. I'll be the customer again. Lucas: Okay. You walk into the supermarket and ask for the milk. Luna: Undskyld, hvor er mælken? Lucas: Mælken er i køleskabet bagerst. Luna: Tak for hjælpen. Og hvor meget koster det? Lucas: Det koster 12 kroner. Luna: Perfekt. Tak! Lucas: Great job! You used two new phrases there. 'Perfekt' and 'Tak' — but we've used 'tak' before. So now you can ask for help at the supermarket. Wonderful work today, Luna. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. And thanks to all our listeners. Practice these phrases and you'll be shopping in Danish in no time. See you next time! Lucas: Yes, keep practicing. Vi ses!
