- 0:00You know that jingle so if nothing beats a jet to holiday and it's just Glenn your favorite artist
- 0:05I love Jess Glenn. Yeah, although I've got a really bad feeling. She got canceled for something
- 0:10I have no idea what it was, but I do love her music. Yeah, darling. Hold my hand. Oh my god. Yeah, matey sense
- 0:16Yeah, she did a concert not that long ago and even and she starts to sing the song and ever the crowd just goes wild
- 0:23Because it's like it's just gone
- 0:25No social media, but nothing beats a jet to holiday is not a song is it the jingle behind it is just just
- 0:30Just Glenn song. Yeah, but it's not a song. No, it's it's a jingle for jet to holiday right no
- 0:35It's her song that's been used in the jingle as a jingle for the jet to holiday. Oh, I don't get so she's not the voice
- 0:42Yeah, no, no, no, no, she's not the best. No, but the girl who is the voice has also gone viral
- 0:49She was like they played it at a beefer in a club and she got up on stage and she was like nothing beats a jet to and everyone's like
- 0:56What's kind of sad of what the world's getting to write like well? I thought about the sales
- 1:01Yeah, it's like where do trends come from like who decides that that's gonna be of something that goes viral
- 1:05Where who society who bakes up all these trends does it just someone just uses it and then people
- 1:11And then they're like oh my gosh, and then it just keeps like someone would see someone do that and then be like that's funny
- 1:17I'm gonna copy it right and then before you know it's like millions of millions of people
- 1:20But okay, the whole preface of it if you don't know is
- 1:25When shit goes wrong. It's like nothing beats jet to holiday, you know, it's like
- 1:31You can travel 50 pounds when you know, it's like real cheap holiday, but it means like there's always disasters
- 1:36There's always something that goes wrong or like there's cockroaches in your room
- 1:40Yeah, you lose your suitcase or it arrives and it's someone else's you know like yeah
- 1:45Kind of now exploded into
- 1:47If you fall down the stairs and spill your coffee, it's like nothing beats jet to holiday
- 1:53Yeah, I saw one of my favorite ones. I've seen is um what about my one. What was your one?
- 1:58Me trying like jumping on my suitcase. Oh to try and close it. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's not the best
- 2:02I mean, I didn't quite get the trend. Yeah
- 2:05I saw one and it was like um it was an engagement and they were like and
- 2:11Some were beautiful in Europe and he bends down. He's like
- 2:14Proposing and then there's these two like boomers like standing from the camera snaggy on it like a snickers chocolate
- 2:21I saw that like even um even snickers came out and seed like kind of like played joke with that as well
- 2:27And was like this was not planned by us like because they obviously been offended because this old lady is just like eating this
- 2:33Snickers bar
- 2:35Moment of the proposal
- 2:37Quite funny, but I mean like that would not have gone viral as an engagement without the snickers moment
- 2:42Engagement going viral because someone stepped in front of the shot and it's pretty funny. I think I'd love that
- 2:49Thought something my parents would do
- 2:51Well, just like not see the camera and just kind of stand there be like wow look at that over there
- 2:55Yeah, yeah, yeah, sorry, but how do you miss the camera and the proposal? Do you know anything like you've got to be pretty
- 3:01I'm pretty good at like seeing if someone standing there in their partners over here taking a photo or whatever like oh, sorry
- 3:07I'll just wait to you to finish, you know, that's what I mean
- 3:11But also a proposal yeah, and obviously a tripod, you know, it's not just someone standing there because otherwise they would have moved
- 3:19Also did give away your proposing
- 3:21If my partner was like I'm just gonna say I'm gonna try part of it. I'd be like you've never done that with the hell
- 3:26Yeah, anyway, the reason we're talking about jet to holidays is
- 3:30They came out with a financial result and
- 3:34It looks like not everyone loves the jet to holiday. Why because it was a pretty terrible result
- 3:40Just sales down profit down share price fell 20% in the day
- 3:45Ah, they had a really good update in July in the reason for that. It's like we've had epic weather here, right like
- 3:52You would think that would encourage people to go on holiday and experience summer, but I think it's just more the
- 3:59economic climate of the UK right now
- 4:02Is pretty dire. So people are cutting back on holidays even budget holidays and
- 4:10Yeah, not good for jet to nothing beats a jet. I just love saying nothing beats a jet to holiday. It's such a
- 4:19I don't know what kind of x-ing that is in the UK British. It's British, but it's like some region
- 4:24Nothing beats a jet anyway
- 4:26So is the essence that people aren't going to Europe as much people start traveling on holiday people kind of forward it too much pressure
- 4:33On there right now. It's really I had a friend's one of my best friends weddings in Portugal a couple of weeks ago
- 4:38And I sang to my parents this morning. I don't my sister travels quite a lot. I don't know how she does it one trip
- 4:45And I'm ruined like I will be doing nothing until payday and I didn't even financially run
- 4:50Or it's also I mean
- 4:53But mainly financially and that was not an expensive holiday because it was a wedding
- 4:57So you're going to these events that are I do some people like there's ways you can do it right like booking in advance
- 5:04Not flying on Friday or Monday or Friday or Monday and there's like this hack on
- 5:10I think it's sky scanner
- 5:12And it's almost like like that was a long weekend as well, right? Like
- 5:15But I went early. I went the day before the long weekend. Yeah, I can make the day after the long weekend
- 5:20And booked surprisingly their combination like four months ago because someone else booked it
- 5:25Like I yeah, yeah, yeah as far as like making that as cheap as possible
- 5:29For short, we could have done a less nice house definitely
- 5:33But it's kind of it was like my
- 5:36One summer holiday really like I went at that random trip to Turkey, but it was so last minute
- 5:41This was my one holiday and I
- 5:44Don't know how people do it more
- 5:46It's so expensive even if it's
- 5:48Locate yeah, oh you think I mean no you don't know I think it's like doing wrong
- 5:54I think it depends where you go like there is some incredibly cheap pace like grace for example like
- 6:01So cheap once you're there obviously not making us or Santorini
- 6:05But like there's I guess like Turkey would be a great example of a cheap assume
- 6:09Yeah, there's certain parts of Turkey, right, which is super expensive, but
- 6:12But even like seven eight hundred pounds for a four-day holiday
- 6:16It still really sets me back like it's not I don't know
- 6:20And like you know, I've had and I've had my um travel fund
- 6:23So I took my it's not like I didn't have the money. It's more just like it's not as cheap
- 6:28Like I do remember back in the day when it was like oh 40 quitting you can fly here and it's like those days are gone
- 6:33Those days are gone all around the world because of COVID
- 6:35Do you know what I mean like even in New Zealand flying away for the weekend
- 6:39You could fly to Australia or Asia probably for a similar price speaking of cheap places to go
- 6:44You're off to Central Pay quite soon. I know I am
- 6:47Yes, very non-cheap
- 6:48How have you um flights was so cheap? How much do you think you'll spend in total for the trip?
- 6:54Um flights were like 60 quid so cheap because it's off-season, right? Yeah, like I think that's also key is like traveling
- 7:01August
- 7:02Is just insane like I looked it going away when you were away for the long weekend because it's like a long weekend amazing and I was like
- 7:08Oh my goodness, I was going to go to Italy 500 pounds
- 7:14Blights
- 7:15And I was like wow absolutely not
- 7:18Uh
- 7:19Like it was just but it's like anywhere right demand supply all of that so but
- 7:24Also American Eagle I've seen heaps of this on my Instagram. What is going on?
- 7:28This is a Sydney Sweeney campaign that's got way too much airtime than it should have they came out with a financial result last
- 7:35Week and the share price was up about 30 per cent in one day
- 7:40They have had a phenomenal uptick and engagement customer awareness sales all from this ad campaign
- 7:47Wait, is this from the one the Sydney Sweeney one that joins? Yeah
- 7:51I'm sorry. Does that not just show you who the investors are?
- 7:54There's no this is this is this is sales. This is people. Oh the campaign has been to increase customer awareness
- 8:02Brand awareness sales like oh, this is sorry. I and the share price reacts
- 8:07They've come out with a really good financial result and the share price is reacted
- 8:11Obviously very well
- 8:12But it just shows like unfortunately no PR is bad PR
- 8:16I just ask is it is the share price up because sales were generally so good
- 8:21It's not that they're just up because of the that would that happened before they announced their financial result
- 8:26but the reason people
- 8:29By shares in a company and the reason the share price went up before the financial result came out was people were anticipating this
- 8:37People were anticipating the fact that everyone's talking about it
- 8:40We I didn't even know about American Eagle before this. Do you know what I mean? So we're talking about it
- 8:45They're doing something right
- 8:47Unfortunately the American Eagle executives as well. I said that the campaign's not going anywhere
- 8:52Isn't staying up. It's staying. Yeah, do you think that they knew
- 8:56How controversial it was and
- 8:59Did it anyway? Or do you think it was almost like I hate to say happy accident
- 9:03But do you think it was almost more that than anything? I think they didn't realize
- 9:08How bad it would be it came out it was bad
- 9:12And now they've seen this they're kind of like oh you know like they just don't I just think people don't really care
- 9:17What even is their brand? I don't even
- 9:20She's also in the recent campaign
- 9:23I mean, it's a very thin line to cross right because it could have gone the other way and being utter backlash
- 9:30Like when Pepsi did that campaign with Kendall Jenner. That was terrible. Yeah, she's also sorry like I reckon
- 9:37It's a lot to do with the fact that it was just her too like she is so beautiful and also quite um
- 9:43Icon it. She's almost like the new fit Megan Fox or something. Yeah, it's like that
- 9:47Yeah, yeah, it's simple. Yeah, have you seen the new gap one? Oh, so good for anyone that has not seen this
- 9:53It's basically like a dance troupe energy with like 90s 90s music 90s. Thanks. So they're up. It's funny
- 10:00There's like memes where it's like the American eagle intern and
- 10:05There's a picture of this person that's just like kind of hovering in the background being like oh god
- 10:09I'm being fired and then it's like the gap intern and they're like
- 10:12Yeah, you know, it's like a marketing intern or something
- 10:16Or also so unfair to put it on the get the intern
- 10:20Like then just probably like sitting there looking at the American eagle campaign like don't do it
- 10:24This is terrible. This is so bad like please don't put it out there and they're like yes my big campaign
- 10:29And then there's gets like so much backlash should be like
- 10:32Of all the people that knew before that went out that that was an appropriate. Yeah
- 10:37I bet you anything the intern that was Gen Z would have been all over it
- 10:40But as an intern you're not going to be like hi marketing execs your idea is really problematic. No
- 10:46Absolutely not it's like
- 10:48Elizabeth Holmes and she had that Theronos company. She's in jail now. It was like what was that sorry? She and she invented
- 10:54Well supposedly inventors
- 10:57This device where you could prick your finger with a little prick of blood. Yeah, anyway
- 11:00Like she never actually had a product she like lied to investors with this whole thing and one of the interns
- 11:07Their grandfather had invested a lot of money in the company and he was like there's nothing in this
- 11:12There's no product. She's lying like all of this and he was like shut up shut up shut up
- 11:17And then it all blew up and yeah
- 11:20And it was just in terms kind of like um brainwash master as she doing to be able to such a good sales almost say to the investors
- 11:28Like they have like these
- 11:30Incredibly powerful people on invested in there which means that you would see those people and be like well if they're if they're invested
- 11:36I want to be because they obviously have done do their due diligence and like yeah anyway
- 11:40It's like the con artistry of all time isn't it should you we should do a full episode on that because it's actually so fascinating for anyone
- 11:47That doesn't know it was basically she she stole we're not stole where she got all this money invested
- 11:52And it was the entire thing was a total and every time she like went into a meeting to do a product demonstration
- 11:57She kept making excuses like oh, it's just not working because of like you know, but like we'll show you next time or something
- 12:04Yeah, anyway, um the book's called bad blood and it's so good. Oh have you read the whole book? Yep
- 12:10The whole and there's a move. There's like a docu series Amanda seafood. Oh, yeah
- 12:15Yeah, it's a shit that we should do like a breakdown of what happened. Yeah, so interesting
- 12:20I'm speaking of scandals. There's another one
- 12:24Nestle so they have
- 12:26Over two thousand brands in their portfolio, which is insane. So I kept kept obviously Nestle kept kept
- 12:34Smarties euro Nespresso like it's gone Nespresso
- 12:38Like so many brands under its umbrella. Anyway, it's been struggling for a long time
- 12:44I think there is a whole shift to like health and wellness and away from like
- 12:48Confectionary and chocolate and like all of that and so they
- 12:52Yeah, I've been struggling for a while. They got this new CEO in about 12 months ago
- 12:56And even he's been there for 40 years. So he's been in the business for 40 years
- 12:59And he's got the top role at Nestle and everyone's like yes, you know someone come in
- 13:05This is the night and shining arm to turn this business around and it came out last week that he
- 13:11Having an inappropriate relationship with a colleague and he's been outst
- 13:16Immediately, who's that who's the colleague? I don't know they haven't given any details about that
- 13:20But it's just like everyone's like oh, this is the beginning of the end for Nestle
- 13:24You know like he had all the back door, but it's like look what I really want to know what was
- 13:29Like was it the receptionist or was it like maybe it was a man internally who like yeah
- 13:34Is actually married and it was you know, like I want to know what the scandalous
- 13:37It's just becoming more and more common, right? It's like this whole like
- 13:42Boss
- 13:43Sleeping with I don't know play energy. It's giving it. It's cold play energy like we saw it at like
- 13:48There's bit happened at BP it happened to big Donald's like it's just
- 13:52Do you like him risking like you've just got to this like you're you can
- 13:56Really move the needle here with this business and you just blow it all by you want to have sex just don't get it
- 14:01So okay, wait hold on
- 14:03Do we think perhaps counter argument? It's not that it's all of a sudden happening
- 14:08It's that it's always happened could be yeah, and now
- 14:11Ever because of social media and because people's reputations can be destroyed so quickly businesses or people
- 14:19They can't take the risks that they used to be able to in terms of like how we're gonna keep this quiet hush hush
- 14:24Stop doing that and we'll just like turn a blind eye because you can't anymore. There's also been a
- 14:30A lot of what would you call it like a lot of companies have set up whistleblower platforms
- 14:35So it's like where you can do anonymous like hey such and such is stealing and you get like full
- 14:41What is it an anonymity an anonymity but also there's like yet legally they can't ask who it is like it's very
- 14:48Protectors because you know if I came out and I was like look John and I have been having a
- 14:54Sexual relationship the backlash that you get is a female. I'm sorry, but it always
- 15:00You know a lot of it does land on the female if it's a you know male female
- 15:04But maybe that's why it's not the worst thing in the world that these CEOs who are caught in these scandals are being let go of
- 15:12You moved on because
- 15:13The exact same thing would happen if it was a woman if there was a woman in that role who had been having in a fair with a younger male
- 15:18I would also this is me assuming maybe they're not even a who knows what the situation is but
- 15:23Point is at least the guys are getting fired
- 15:26It's not just because I've worked in workplaces where the room is about like bosses and people that work there are like
- 15:32Disturbing like yeah really disturbing and I was always like
- 15:37I see from pretending that this is not a big deal. This is so weird like if anything
- 15:42It's come out of the me to me to a movement is like height and awareness of an appropriate behavior at work
- 15:48Which has been
- 15:50Amazing and like the fact that people are a lot more aware of it and not settling for it and whistle
- 15:55You can't just blow it under the rug. It's not a but around around a third of UK workers have admitted to having a relationship at work
- 16:03Yeah, and that's probably no, which I'm quite surprised you spend
- 16:0890,000 hours of our lives on average at work
- 16:14You would assume that you meet someone at work or through work or like all of that
- 16:19Um, I mean, it's no surprise that there's like a bit of bloodlines, but
- 16:23I think there's an appropriate way to do it right. I'm kind of surprised you haven't because
- 16:28You've been in a like I feel like I've been in situations where there has not been an abundance of men in the jobs that I've had
- 16:35Whereas you're the opposite. Yeah
- 16:37You've had like what you've been like a woman in a sea
- 16:39I hooked up with like one
- 16:41I was as client
- 16:43But we shut it down like we kissed and then we shut it down really quickly because it was just like oh no
- 16:48So it's gonna be I don't like you enough to like go through the awkwardness. You know like it was just
- 16:53Yeah
- 16:54Anyway, but
- 16:56There's been an appropriate behavior to myself, which has been un-morented. Let's put it over that. Yeah
- 17:02I'm not supposed to
- 17:04But anyway, I just wanted to like there's kind of a few things to highlight here firstly is that the succession planning
- 17:10And the lack of succession planning that a lot of these big corporates have like they didn't they now have no CEO
- 17:16Do you know what I mean? And they haven't planned for this and yeah a 40% of CEOs in
- 17:24Large corporates don't have succession planning in place
- 17:27So like even if it's like someone has to leave abruptly for health reasons for scandal for you know if they pass away like
- 17:34These companies have got no leader now and they've got this probably poor person
- 17:38It's been thrusted into this robbing like oh my gosh, you know, yeah, I find it really bizarre like I have a friend
- 17:43Who's currently on her honey is it honeymoon is that after you're wedding? Yeah, why why is my brain not working
- 17:49And they got given a gift for their wedding where they were able to stay an extra week in this like beautiful accommodation
- 17:55Like her boss either gave it to her and she was like oh man, I meant to be working
- 17:59Though she emailed her boss saying like is there any chance like we take a week if I'm paid leave this is the situation
- 18:03Yeah, yeah, yeah, and she was able to but it wasn't like easy breezy and I I just thought this is a giant company that has
- 18:12Hundreds and hundreds of employees. Hmm. I guess it's setting the precedent. You have to set a precedent
- 18:18But everyone you know you break the rules for one person to give you two days notice of leave
- 18:22Then set a precedent of like well Mary was allowed to take leave with to you know like my point is like
- 18:28It's almost better with a small company. I reckon because you can just kind of
- 18:33You don't have to have procedures of like going through HR or what like yeah, but I guess what I mean is like in comparison
- 18:39CEO succession plan and then not being one for these huge huge companies and you're just like what
- 18:44It's sort of this like I don't know. I just I feel like you assume because they're a big corporate that they've got their stuff
- 18:50Sorted and they've got backup plans at all points of you know
- 18:54Whatever happens someone immediately quits or walks away or just never turns up because they've moved to I don't know
- 19:00Brazil
- 19:01You assume that big companies. It's just not going to touch the sides, but it just blows my mind sometimes how underprepared
- 19:08Big companies are and like one one small thing can really throw them
- 19:12Oh, so where I just found this I just completely missed this statistic in the ues nearly a third of people
- 19:19Have said that they've dated their boss or their supervisor a third of people. Oh my god
- 19:25This is juicy. I want to get some like I've been a supervisor
- 19:29Oh, and you dated someone younger. Yeah anyway with with newslay
- 19:33It's actually slim pickings of who's going to take over
- 19:36This company because if we looked at its competitors because usually you kind of saw them in the same pond if you're like okay
- 19:42Cool, we need to go find a new CEO. Let's go to craft hines. Let's go to uni lever. Let's go to
- 19:47Hershey and like ask or see if that their CEOs or someone is of interest in joining
- 19:54But all the issue prices have done terribly all the chocolate brands all the snack brands all like they're all down
- 20:01And usually you don't pick a CEO and promote them into a new role if they've due prices down
- 20:07Right, I mean in a more zoomed out trend
- 20:10Yeah, sitting if we all know now that like processed food is not good for you. I mean not we all like if you are
- 20:19Uh, reasonably health aware and you know that like even though it might seem like the easy option something
- 20:23It's packet it when you look at the ingredients if it's not like Whole Foods and you don't know what is that theme gummers and all this random stuff
- 20:29It's probably not great for your body
- 20:31And I think that this trend towards health and well-being and investing in your health and like aura rings and woop
- 20:37Hands and yeah
- 20:39Lululemon, do you know what I mean? Look, it's it's really the interversus of a griffins like half dips
- 20:45I don't know we didn't
- 20:47But I think if the cereals I used to eat when I was younger and I'm like that is
- 20:53You were sugar. I was starting my day with a bowl full of sugar. Like terrible
- 20:58How honest did we I mean
- 20:59Power teachers. I have no idea like honestly. I'm just sorry
- 21:03It's kind of what I mean. I'm like all these brands um and yes
- 21:07They include it like and all the brands that come under it. Yeah, not all of them
- 21:10I mean I understand and espresso obviously it's quite different
- 21:13The ones that are quite the opposite of health. Yeah, like 10 terms like how they're so many different
- 21:21I know snack brands to a lot of it
- 21:23No, but why how people buying enough of them to still be so this is kind of what's happening
- 21:29It's like people are like a sheer price reflects what's what's going to happen in the future, right?
- 21:34And this is why a lot of these snack companies
- 21:37Or configuring companies the sheer prices are not doing well
- 21:41Because they can see this whole move into health and wellness and people yet not buying as much and I mean
- 21:46These these are huge portfolios of brands. Are you got 2000 brands? Yes
- 21:49There's someone there that are like vitamins and water and like but that's like
- 21:53Source form. It's not going to move the needle
- 21:56But what I would be afraid of as Nestle is now it's sheer price is on its knees
- 22:02Uh-huh. So the sharks will be circling
- 22:05Like pick up a bargain on its knees later. I know. It gives me the heavy GBS
- 22:10Kind of seems a bit sexual but it sounds like like someone's about they're like about to give a blowjob
- 22:15Yeah, but it's not it's means like
- 22:18You're like begging being like please don't buy me. Yeah, please
- 22:21Like I'm good. I'm kind of what I think
- 22:25Did you make the saying up?
- 22:30Nestle is on its knees. Yeah, so it's in dangerous territory
- 22:32So turn that sheer price around or the sharks are circling as they say
- 22:36The sharks are circling exactly another company where the shark has bitten. Oh no
- 22:41It's Pepsi. Pepsi. Pepsi bought
- 22:45Poppy that um functional drinks. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, so please spoke about that a while ago. Yeah
- 22:51Their sheer price has fallen about 20% in the last 12 months and they have now
- 22:57It's come out of that an activist investor
- 23:00At his bought a large chunk of stock and what that means is that's when someone usually a big hedge fund
- 23:07You know a big company private equity company will buy a whole lot of stock in a company a public company
- 23:14and
- 23:15Then demand either like a seat on the board or
- 23:19You know some kind of governance where they can bring about change
- 23:22I like nepotism. I'm buying my job. I'm buying shares so that I can work for this company
- 23:26Yeah, try and turn the business around and turn business around
- 23:28I've done it in the past. I've done it very successfully and there can be quite
- 23:32Yeah, it can be pretty hostile and usually it's right
- 23:35Usually that the board is running this company and you get this person on the side come in and be like
- 23:39You're not doing it right. I could do it better. It's pretty bold. Yeah, but it's also they make money right if they can have
- 23:47Which they've got 2% this is so the company that is bought the shares in Pepsi Co is called Elliot management
- 23:54And they have bought a 2% stake there in 2% of the shares 4 billion dollars well
- 24:00But they can turn that 4 billion into 8 billion and get a 100% return
- 24:05By doing a few changes. It's it's also the current board
- 24:09Anyone else that works there also wants that to happen. So it's like kind of that's what I find hard sometimes
- 24:14Is it's like but you can disagree on strategy right like yeah, you could be like no
- 24:18No, I think the best way to grow this business is to launch into America and they're like no, no, no
- 24:23Trust me the best way to grow this business is to
- 24:26Double down and focus on what we're good at and so you can disagree on that
- 24:31You're both the same kind of end goal of wanting to grow the share price, but this this person
- 24:36What do they have experience turning what businesses if they turn around so they've had a lot of success actually
- 24:42So when you are an activist invested. It's very successful and this news comes out
- 24:47You're kind of
- 24:49A master of your own destiny because now people know that you're invested people are buying
- 24:55Which starts the share price so you could kind of do nothing, but they don't but you know you could be like oh, I'm buying Pepsi
- 25:01Or I've bought Pepsi and then everyone jumps on yeah, I'm selling so it's kind of like reputation
- 25:05They're like yep at the moment the share prices increase, but it's it's based on the reputation of
- 25:11They're gonna do something. Yeah, it's like when Warren Buffett comes out and he's like I've bought a large stake in a company
- 25:16He brings up some because they know that he can spot something they can't he's got a good trick record and
- 25:21So they have their previous successes have they
- 25:24Made the Twitter when Twitter was not ex before it was ex
- 25:28They made the CEO step down and that improved the share price of that
- 25:33Starbucks starbucks. They got in the new CEO sales force. They introduced a whole lot of cost cutting
- 25:39Actually to profits and like therefore they could do a buyback
- 25:42The HP they made them divest this oil
- 25:45They're part of the US oil business Pinterest like they've done it so many companies. Yeah, right. Yeah, so
- 25:51There could be potential and in Pepsi
- 25:54But I just think Pepsi as a brand is all data. It used to be number one, right?
- 25:59You used to be like tied at number one coke and Pepsi used to be like the you know
- 26:02They'd kind of play it off on each other and be like
- 26:05We number one. We number anyway. Now Pepsi's number four. You've got
- 26:10Coca-Cola Dr. Peppa no way sprite
- 26:14Then Pepsi. That's how badly it's done
- 26:16I'm honestly who the hell is mine?
- 26:19Like in Dr. Peppa and like Pepsi's brands are things like Gatorade Mountain Dew
- 26:26I was thinking I said you could do something really like 90s kind of vintage
- 26:32Mountain Dew, you know like Gatorade is so iconic and old
- 26:37You could really kind of have fun with bringing them back in a healthier
- 26:42Retro way. Yeah, I don't know like I would be like that would be quite cool
- 26:46They need to be healthier. I think that's like I mountain Dew and Solomon and do some kind of like yeah
- 26:51I work in marketing you
- 26:54No, but um
- 26:55I think all of these brands not only am I uninterested in investing in them because I yeah, I don't really use the product
- 27:03but I
- 27:04Struggle to others and maybe I'm in an echo chamber of people that care about health
- 27:08But I just cannot imagine people that are spending heaps of money on Pepsi and Mountain Dew and Gatorade and oh my god
- 27:15I know I just don't I mean I'm not sure if I sound like a judge me don't
- 27:19When I see someone drinking a full-strength coke
- 27:21I'm just I'm so freaked out. I'm just like have you been like living under a rock?
- 27:27You know how much sugar's in that like you may as well just buy a bag of sugar important your mouth like I just
- 27:32I'm not saying that I am the best in terms of what I eat and drink
- 27:35But at least when I am I don't know like I'm trying to make conscious decisions right and it's if I know I'm eating a bag of
- 27:43Chips it's like I know they're bad for me and I'm not doing it all the time
- 27:46I don't know I just to be fair. Yeah, I get a bag of chips like in a heartbeat and I have the entire thing
- 27:51And that's pretty shift you like yes, but I think there's
- 27:56Is it any better when it's just like all this processed stuff? Do you know what I mean like I honestly those pickle chirps
- 28:01I can get a whole giant bag and eat it on my own and I do that kind of regularly. Maybe that's just as a kiss having a coke
- 28:08Yeah
- 28:09But I think I think a lot of guys have a full-strength coke and I hang over. Yeah, that's a thing
- 28:14I just a little I would rather a burger if I'm gonna indulge and
- 28:18Put shit in my body. Give me let me say my take and do
- 28:23Say give me some fries like I yeah, that would be my
- 28:28Hundred percent. I'm not like even me drinking like I like a diet coke but even drinking that I'm like it's brown
- 28:33I feel not nor yeah, and like there's there's something just
- 28:38The fact that it's not clear which sounds so stupid
- 28:41No, it's it's it's it's totally processed and terrible for you. Yeah, I just feel like there's gonna be a day
- 28:46I'm it's gonna come out that how bad diet coke is
- 28:48I know diet coke is terrible for you. Yeah, you dress like a coke today. Oh
- 28:53Okay, it's a really good color on you. Thanks. You sound like I'm a mother. No seriously. Red is your color. Yeah, you're wearing
- 29:01I was like yes, mom. It's really nice. Thank you. It's very nice color. Gold price. Oh my god. Yeah
- 29:07Gold price has hit a record
- 29:113,500
- 29:14Dollars and outs which kind of I guess what I'm saying is it's up 35% this year. It's done fantastically well
- 29:20and
- 29:21It's surpassed. It's previous high in April. Remember we had that little market wobble in April
- 29:25I feel like gold was like yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, we've passed that
- 29:30Um there's some p500 so the US stock market is up 10%
- 29:35this year
- 29:37Gold is up 35. Wow. It's been the world's best performing asset
- 29:41So like if we take property stock spawns like that's gold is the best performing asset which
- 29:48To me is concerning because when gold does well the world is turning to shut it's run scared essentially
- 29:56It's the flight to safety. It's the like oh gosh. I don't know what the stock market or
- 30:02Property is gonna do. I'm gonna put my money into something that is certain which is gold like gold has been essence the
- 30:10Dawn of time. It's with all these new things like Bitcoin and
- 30:14Hey, and yeah, and it's like oh, no, no, no, I'm just gonna reserve and go back to gold
- 30:19I'm just gonna stick in my safe corner
- 30:21It's like going back to what I always know is gonna be good and it's like I'm gonna go back into my cave
- 30:25Yeah, in my caveman and like my fire and keep warm. Yeah, yeah, that's that's what gold is and they're weighted out and I'm gonna buy gold. Yeah
- 30:32But the reason it's done so well recently
- 30:36Is and the reason people are worried uncertain is because Trump is interfering with the central bank of the US
- 30:42This is just and this is a much bigger conversation and we'll do a raise in the curve on it, but
- 30:49It is essentially
- 30:51The Treasury so like the interest rate
- 30:55Setting and like monitoring and looking after and like the department that sets interest rates for country is very separate to the government
- 31:02And it's called the Treasury and then you've got the government and they they cannot influence each other like they're not allowed to political
- 31:08The whole point is economical ones political
- 31:10Yeah, it's like you you cannot interfere. They don't in any country and what Trump is doing is interfering with the
- 31:16What what's called you know the US Central Bank which is called the Fed the Federal Reserve and
- 31:21The reason people are jumping into gold is because
- 31:25They're scared if Trump interferes too much he wants interest rates to come down
- 31:30Which leads to inflation and gold is a really great inflation hedge and it's what people hold when they think when they're scared about inflation
- 31:38Because it's hold is it holds its value whereas a hundred dollar note doesn't a inflation takes off that a hundred dollars
- 31:46Can only purchase less now whereas gold still holds its price
- 31:50So this is why people are running to gold because they're like they're scared that Trump's gonna take over
- 31:55the fed
- 31:57lower interest rates and increase inflation. I definitely think we should do an episode on this because I actually sent this
- 32:03Like I listened to any sort of a different podcast the other day
- 32:06And I sent it to work and I was like can we talk about this?
- 32:08You're listening to other financial podcasts. I know I've only just started. It's quite weird
- 32:12I was just doing a bit of research to see what's out there
- 32:14It's all quite confusing if I'm being honest like yeah, I caught bits a bit
- 32:19But that's why I sent it to you being like can we talk about it? But can you just explain this for me? Thank you
- 32:23Yeah, because I listened to the whole thing and I know what I did sort of like
- 32:26I understood parts a bit
- 32:27But like at a really high level my main takeaways that there's about seven people that are part of the Fed right
- 32:33There's like seven different people that make decisions and people sub in and out and generally it's like four or five
- 32:37Yeah, but basically
- 32:40The majority if you have majority it's four people and right now
- 32:43He's got three people within the Fed that are kind of Trump leaning. Yeah, and he's about he just the person that he's just fired
- 32:51Is the first black woman to ever be in there and was refusing to basically do what he was asking
- 32:58And has made up kind of this like mortgage thing that share apparently like didn't disclose something
- 33:05You know, it basically has tried to like muddy her name
- 33:08Get someone else in there so that he has four people and technically has control of the Fed which means he can then control interest rates
- 33:14It's like he's
- 33:15Infiltrated the educational system with even that's gone on with Harvard which was talked about like you're not allowed to interfere with certain parts of the country
- 33:24And they have to say independent right otherwise you kind of are ruling a dictatorship and so
- 33:30Yeah, people are just scared that he's
- 33:32Scared at how he's overset the market so many other areas. So
- 33:37What's stopping him from doing this but also the repercussions of this if he does
- 33:41The repercussions that that could have for the economy, but I'm like when is he out?
- 33:45I'm like can we do it for years and like this is scary
- 33:49Um
- 33:50Anyway, I would love to know people who've just heard this tiny snippet of the Fed Trump situation
- 33:57If you're listening and think I would really like more of an insight into what's going on with that
- 34:02And can you do a full episode? Can you comment where you're listening? Because I personally'm really interested in it
- 34:08Yeah, I think I've I realized now how incredibly influential the US market is on the whole world from an economic standpoint
- 34:15And so this isn't just something that's going to affect America. It's going to be global waves and
- 34:22Yeah, it's starting to get to point where I'm like gosh, he really has his tentacles everywhere
- 34:28The curve investing club is the world's first digital investing club for women to build their wealth
- 34:34It's a place where industry experts like myself and beginners can really really join forces to share knowledge swap ideas and make money through investing
- 34:43So if you're listening to this podcast you probably are aware that saving alone unfortunately can't make your millionaire
- 34:50But investing definitely could so we wholeheartedly believe in the power of community in that the best investment ideas come
- 34:57When we collaborate and learn with each other
- 35:00So bring your friends your mum even strangers on the street if you want
- 35:05There really is strength and numbers and we're so excited to create a community that's just for you
- 35:10So
- 35:14You know, we were like nothing beats a jet to holiday. Oh, it's right. That was nothing beats a jet to holiday
- 35:20That was nothing beats a jet to holiday. I'm going to be both terrible. Yeah. Well, there is actually
- 35:27Another small group of people were a growing group of people that are having a great holiday
- 35:33Well, spending a lot on their luxury holidays and that is we are seeing
- 35:38This new wave of Bitcoin billionaires
- 35:42Bitcoin has reached record high in recent weeks of a hundred and twenty four thousand US dollars a coin
- 35:49Shed that's here. Just trying up and up and up and up and this is all due
- 35:53who
- 35:54Recently due to Donald Trump being like, you know, he wants the US to be a crypto capital of the world
- 36:00He's
- 36:01Relaxing a lot of regulation in terms of making it easier for people to invest in crypto like all of that
- 36:05So it's just you had a real acceleration this year
- 36:10But we are seeing booming demand from private jet companies
- 36:16And they're saying
- 36:18This wave of Bitcoin billionaires is the reason that they're doing so well the people are being the up large on private jets
- 36:25All the things you could buy it costs eighty thousand dollars to get from London to New York on a private jet eighty thousand
- 36:33And that's not is that just
- 36:35Yeah, five hundred quid it was so expensive like a major when you say it cost that is that for someone that owns the plane
- 36:41No, you can charge them you charge them. Yeah, yeah, so you can book like a private
- 36:47Gets like you do book commercial
- 36:49but
- 36:51So you are booking an eighty thousand dollar trip
- 36:54Do you think when you say Bitcoin billionaires are pushing up high in private jets is that because Bitcoin billionaires are
- 36:59Chartering private plans or is it that they want to buy their own? No, no
- 37:03Sorry, they're like they're like you know what I make too much money to fly commercial now
- 37:07I'm gonna fly private. I'm gonna spend eighty thousand dollars to get London to New York and that's just like because I've got so much money
- 37:14But it used to be like old money, right like big
- 37:18You know people that had made a lot of money selling businesses or whatever would have private jets or celebrities
- 37:23But this is just new wave of I guess
- 37:26Celebrity status or new money and it's Bitcoin money when I think of private jets
- 37:31You know how you're like it's sort of old school it it makes me think like of like George W
- 37:36Bush getting on a private that's what it feels like that long ago. It's like quite vintage. Yeah
- 37:41Do you think this then leads into the whole ESG doing terribly like is that all fed into it like in terms of
- 37:49money being in the hands of people who don't give a
- 37:52About the environment. Is it anything to do with that because I just feel like so many people that have money now
- 37:58I think making a massive generalization, but I think I love it this and go and I instantly was okay
- 38:04Go going private jet public companies. Is it obviously benefiting?
- 38:09You know like what are what are the private jet public companies?
- 38:12It sounds that sounds crazy
- 38:14But you wouldn't want to invest in that would you
- 38:17Maybe really yeah, what I would not yeah just goes to show
- 38:22Bitcoin is doing fantastically well
- 38:26People between the age of 30 and 40 spent nearly 30 billion dollars
- 38:31Luxury travel in 2023 and that's expected to be
- 38:34Over 50 billion so nearly double. Yeah, nearly double and that's 30 to 40. That's like
- 38:4040 rolls. Yeah, that's like young people. That's people hours. Yeah. Oh my god. I know
- 38:45I love that I'm on my high horse like I wouldn't invest in private jet the first thing I thought when you said that was
- 38:49I come
- 38:52I don't just the ease or I mean not having to go through airport security or like go through all that kind of jazz yeah, and like
- 39:00I mean airports are overwhelming
- 39:02Imagine if you just had a little side door that you could go through. Oh my gosh and like go at your own time
- 39:08Not be like oh there's only one 8 p.m. Or like 8 a.m. Oh, what's going to do it?
- 39:12Yeah, I can go when I'm ready and or I'm like can you just hold the aircraft
- 39:17Like but just imagine having that much money that it's just
- 39:20Requesting the snacks you want, but I can say I have to pay three pounds for a tea
- 39:25I can see why the um communications of the world like private like from our like security kind of
- 39:31I think if you're if you're a massive celebrity and you're going to get absolutely molded
- 39:35You're pulled to like you know you you wouldn't be able if you were Kim Kardashian getting on a normal flight
- 39:40You absolutely wouldn't make it past like the first cure
- 39:43You know how it's like oh you try and stop so much into your carry on so you're gonna have a cheek bag
- 39:48I'm just imagining Kim Kardashian was like, you know like I'm always running. I've always got like a million things
- 39:53Got my coffee man, you know, I just feel like I'm always a bit hot and flustered. Yeah, it's just would be so I'm
- 39:59KG over and it's 5,000 feet, you know, I could say oh gosh, I've forgotten to fill up my water bottle
- 40:05And now I've got I don't know. Yes, it's admin central. Yeah, yeah, I'm just I don't know how we able to travel with kids like I can't even
- 40:12I must say to you
- 40:14Every time I fly and there's like you're in this giant queue with all these people and everyone's stressed
- 40:19There's so much going on and then you have to
- 40:23Like absolutely there's an issue and you're like I feel so sorry for those parents. I hate them. They're embarrassed
- 40:28Yeah, they're like I'm so sorry and the kids screaming and you're like oh my god
- 40:33I hate the people though that like glare at the parents. I'm like come on
- 40:37Do you think they want their child to be like
- 40:39Running him up. No, of course they don't like just sometimes you look at the parents and the parents are getting so worked up
- 40:45Like screaming at their kids or like exacerbating the situation and you're kind of like
- 40:51I know I could all need to be on a lead
- 40:53Honestly, you know, there's sort of like backpacks with the bad shot
- 40:57Like I used to think it was terrible and I'm like I get it. Oh totally. I took my nephew and maybe attach them to you
- 41:02So you've got like carabenas and you just like each lead attached to like a side of you
- 41:07I took my three-year-old nephew to an event when I was in Auckland
- 41:10M.A. sister and a husband were like put him in the take the pram put him in the pram and I was like no no like
- 41:15I can't be bothered with a pram or like I'll just take him. They're like trust me. Look
- 41:19And I was like oh, we find anyway. Thank goodness. I took the pram. I honestly nearly lost him
- 41:25I he got out for two seconds boom gone and I was like oh
- 41:29I don't know anything of Thomas this but I like panic station like it was and then I had this up the other
- 41:35My niece and I was trying and I was like gosh, I can see why I strap him in the plant pram, you know
- 41:40They just blink of your eye and they're gone. Oh no, so stressful. Yeah. Anyway, sorry
- 41:44I mean in all honesty if private jets wouldn't horrendous for the environment. Yeah, I'm on board. I also reckon
- 41:55If you think how much
- 41:58Like economy used to be like business class, right?
- 42:01Like it's every what do you mean like you would back in the day and like the 80s or whatever
- 42:06There wasn't life-flat beds or anything like that like it's you literally had a seat
- 42:11It was probably like worse than the economy that we have right now
- 42:14Like flying experiences getting better and better and better and I on it. I genuinely think
- 42:19We will get to a point where you won't just be sitting in a seat. You know like economy will be life-flat beds
- 42:25You know like yeah eventually there's got to be some kind of advancements
- 42:31Like even in New Zealand now right has you can book in if you're an economy you can book in
- 42:36To go and have a sleep in a bed
- 42:38But like four hours like they've got life-flat beds for economy
- 42:42It's just kind of the co-case of fitting as many people on the plane so that it makes it you can only be worthwhile
- 42:46Oh, but yeah, like that's it wants to get through that
- 42:49But I just what I'm saying is I think the improvements are filtering down
- 42:52From the private jets
- 42:55To economy we will be able to take much more carry on
- 42:58As I was saying yeah, maybe not an hour late time, but like yeah
- 43:01But what I you know when we talk about investments and looking to like forward trends
- 43:06Wouldn't you then think if economy or premium economy is gonna eventually feel kind of like business class or private whatever yeah
- 43:14That private jets would be doing shit
- 43:17From like an economic standpoint because they're always upgrading planes and eventually no one's gonna
- 43:22No, I see what you mean. Yeah, no I reckon that the planes
- 43:26The planes will become like cheaper to build there be more competition the choice of private will be bigger
- 43:34Which means the prices of private will become down more people like I just think they'll be it won't just be economy
- 43:40Plans that upgrading private will be too sort of removing with the times. Yeah, and just like everything's kind of leaning into convenience right and so
- 43:49There'll be a time where I don't know like leaning into like flexibility convenience
- 43:54So saying that hey, you can only get one flight that leaves at a p.m. Or whatever
- 43:58I don't know. I just think it will maybe you just advancements maybe things get you a more accessible uber
- 44:04Private jet. Yeah, you can can you yeah. Oh my god. Yeah, you're a helicopter. Sorry. I reckon it was that to take over the world
- 44:11I agree. I see Uber marketing everywhere, and it's actually quite good and then genius like just as you're exiting the airport
- 44:17Yeah, I like it on something here
- 44:20Oh, coming from tubing. I'm like, oh, and then it's like uber
- 44:24Yeah, like okay, you know, and it's quite good marketing like with the photography and the artwork that they're using
- 44:29I'm like I think something big is about to happen. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, I've got something I want to ask anyone that listens to this podcast
- 44:37Can you please comment on this show on this show on this episode
- 44:42Whether you listen to the curve weekly every week whether you listen to every episode we put out
- 44:48Whether you prefer
- 44:49The interview stuff that we do for raising the curve like I just would love to understand a bit more about who's listening to what
- 44:55Because without stats like the back end we can see like how many people listen to each thing
- 45:00But we have no context for who's listened to what episode? Yeah, and it'd be so helpful for us to know like do just come back to the curve podcast
- 45:07Lesson always the curve weekly you want to know the news and what's going on in the world
- 45:11Or do you love the interviews? Do you love both and just don't really care and you listen to all of them like
- 45:16Would really love to hear and there's no like right or wrong if you pop in once and listen to a random one fine
- 45:22But um any any kind of like listening habits if you could just comment for us to read
- 45:27It's been amazing to see all the comments that are coming through like I'll show you that because there's so many that come through any
- 45:32Each episode like the Chloe Swabick one there was like foodie comments or something
- 45:36It's amazing because it also means if someone else is listening they can see what other people think and feel about yeah
- 45:42We seem to want to know if it's one person listening
