- 0:02Speaker 1: Hey, it's Roun and Kratz, but eventually it will be
- 0:05Speaker 1: AJ as well. You should join us. Pretty shortly into
- 0:08Speaker 1: the show, apparently he's having drinks with Tom Brady or
- 0:12Speaker 1: something close to that. Yeah, I wish I was joking.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I think that's actually what's happening right now. He's just
- 0:17Speaker 1: doing like a cocktail in the afternoon with Tom Brady.
- 0:22Speaker 1: So we'll get to AJ in a moment, probably ten
- 0:25Speaker 1: to fifteen minutes in the show. We got a good
- 0:27Speaker 1: one for you today, and we used to do something
- 0:30Speaker 1: different off the top krats. I don't like to give
- 0:33Speaker 1: attention to warm trash, but I'm going to give it
- 0:36Speaker 1: a little bit of run. So I remember when we
- 0:40Speaker 1: talked to Rowdy the other day and he was perturbed
- 0:43Speaker 1: by a radio interview where they just attacked him with
- 0:47Speaker 1: fat jokes and he's like, I don't even know you,
- 0:49Speaker 1: and this is weird. We're not best friends. So I
- 0:54Speaker 1: asked him if he thought that we were in a
- 0:56Speaker 1: spot where sometimes shows are just trying to ask things
- 0:59Speaker 1: to try and get viral and get some attention when
- 1:01Speaker 1: they need it, and that show didn't like that. I
- 1:05Speaker 1: asked that question, didn't name names. I legitimately don't know
- 1:08Speaker 1: any names on that show. I still don't, but at
- 1:10Speaker 1: least one of our trustemen behind the scenes sent me
- 1:13Speaker 1: a clip of them personally attacking me. Twerp stick is
- 1:19Speaker 1: stry comedy, I don't know, all kinds of fun, right
- 1:24Speaker 1: attacking And then of course there's a producer on there
- 1:29Speaker 1: who's like, he actually does guest spots on some of
- 1:32Speaker 1: our shows, sometimes obviously for free, so he's kind of
- 1:36Speaker 1: a nice guy. It was just super awkward and just
- 1:41Speaker 1: reminded me of like what some shows try to do
- 1:45Speaker 1: and fail so so badly with is you're in your fifties,
- 1:50Speaker 1: you're trying hard to be the next Howard Stern, mad dog,
- 1:53Speaker 1: whatever you want to call it, and it's really cringe content.
- 1:57Speaker 1: That's what it is. Okay, I didn't go time too
- 2:00Speaker 1: deep into it at the time, but it's a really
- 2:03Speaker 1: tough look when someone came and ask a question and
- 2:06Speaker 1: you're like, oh, is this guy he's a twerp and
- 2:09Speaker 1: it's a bad accent and it's like this tough guy mentality.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I'm sorry that you don't know much about sports and
- 2:15Speaker 1: you have to try and take personal shots so the
- 2:17Speaker 1: show can stay alive. And get attention. But that's what
- 2:19Speaker 1: it sounded like to me. So it was on one
- 2:21Speaker 1: oh five to three the Fan if you'd like to
- 2:24Speaker 1: tune in giving them some love. I'm sure there's a
- 2:26Speaker 1: lot of great people that work there, but there were
- 2:28Speaker 1: a couple guys that just decided to take some shots.
- 2:32Speaker 1: They want to bring me on the radio show. I've
- 2:34Speaker 1: been on there before and we had a nice cordial conversation,
- 2:37Speaker 1: and I'm allowed to ask an athlete if he feels
- 2:40Speaker 1: like he was being trolled into answering questions a certain way. Okay,
- 2:45Speaker 1: free country, so get off my back.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Did they say anything about your chains? No?
- 2:51Speaker 1: No chains. Attack twerp is an interesting choice, though, I
- 2:55Speaker 1: mean not that one I've never received before. We probably
- 2:58Speaker 1: haven't met in person. If I'm being called a twerp.
- 3:01Speaker 3: I would go, I would I'm gonna actually, before you
- 3:04Speaker 3: even say any of that, I would say twarp would
- 3:07Speaker 3: never twerp, small guy, ugly, all words I would never
- 3:14Speaker 3: use to describe Scott Brown because he's not a twerp.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Sneaky tall, sneaky tall guy, incredibly jacked, lots of muscles
- 3:25Speaker 3: on muscles, So just saying just just don't don't go
- 3:29Speaker 3: there you can, and don't make fun of my friend Scott.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Okay, somebody make fun of.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Me one more so so they said see me, like
- 3:38Speaker 1: as if I'm trying to get attention drawn to me
- 3:43Speaker 1: now as somebody that's on the show all the time.
- 3:45Speaker 1: I actually have very specific rules for interviews. I try
- 3:47Speaker 1: and be the guy who asks the fewest questions when
- 3:50Speaker 1: we post stuff on social media. I don't like when
- 3:53Speaker 1: I am on it too often. So see me is
- 3:58Speaker 1: basically my anti religion.
- 4:02Speaker 3: It's not and I can back that up. I can
- 4:04Speaker 3: back it up. There's plenty of times that we're asked
- 4:08Speaker 3: who's next on a question. Scott routinely says I have things,
- 4:14Speaker 3: but they don't want to hear from me, or this
- 4:17Speaker 3: is all you guys. So Scott is the While he
- 4:20Speaker 3: is the incredible host and incredible muscles, he does not
- 4:26Speaker 3: want to be seen.
- 4:27Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:27Speaker 3: It's it's anti what everybody thinks, like somebody that's on
- 4:30Speaker 3: a show, somebody that's been on TV. It's not Scott.
- 4:35Speaker 3: So you really you missed the mark. You took a swing,
- 4:38Speaker 3: Sorry it didn't happen.
- 4:40Speaker 1: Appreciate you. Yeah, just trying to play point guard. But anyway,
- 4:44Speaker 1: get our few minute shots back in there. I'm sure
- 4:47Speaker 1: we'll hear from them again, but that's the only time
- 4:49Speaker 1: I'm going to bring it up. Case closed, Let's talk ball,
- 4:54Speaker 1: talk about oh krats. Of course, the one time that
- 4:59Speaker 1: aj it's going to be a few minutes late. It's
- 5:01Speaker 1: just you and me, Jersey born Scott, a lot of
- 5:05Speaker 1: family members who are die hard Mets fans and Pennsylvania
- 5:10Speaker 1: born aircrats, who is Philly, thick and thin and in Philly.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Right now, these are actually these are actually their favorite losses,
- 5:20Speaker 1: right the Philly's actually lost yesterday, they got blown out
- 5:24Speaker 1: by the reds Ate nothing, but it's their favorite lost
- 5:26Speaker 1: because they're losing to a team that has a chance
- 5:29Speaker 1: to catch the Mets for the wild card standings. The
- 5:32Speaker 1: Mets blew a brutal game yesterday versus Atlanta. They cannot
- 5:38Speaker 1: maintain leads right now. David Peterson here in the fourth
- 5:42Speaker 1: inning nursing a six run lead, is part of a
- 5:46Speaker 1: Mets pitching staff that ends up allowing nine runs off
- 5:50Speaker 1: four hits, five walks. Michael Harris had a grand Slam
- 5:53Speaker 1: in this one. He's been one of the best hitters
- 5:55Speaker 1: in the second half of the season after being one
- 5:56Speaker 1: of the worst hitters in the first half of the season.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Starters are not giving length. There was some offense here
- 6:04Speaker 1: early on, they scored enough to win the ballgame, but
- 6:06Speaker 1: the pitching staff is crumbling in mid August. This happens
- 6:09Speaker 1: to teams. But what the heck is going on with
- 6:13Speaker 1: the Mets. Are they going to be able to recover
- 6:14Speaker 1: from this? Or are the Braves and others going to
- 6:17Speaker 1: have fun playing spoiler for the next six weeks and
- 6:19Speaker 1: knock this team out of the playoffs?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Man?
- 6:22Speaker 3: I mean to say that the Mets aren't going to
- 6:24Speaker 3: make the playoffs is as bold for even me. Beginning
- 6:28Speaker 3: of the season, I got roasted by Mets fans for
- 6:30Speaker 3: saying they're going to finish third. That didn't mean I
- 6:33Speaker 3: didn't like the Mets. It also didn't mean that I
- 6:36Speaker 3: thought the Mets were the best team in the National
- 6:38Speaker 3: League East. It just means that I didn't think they
- 6:41Speaker 3: were built to withstand one hundred and sixty two games
- 6:44Speaker 3: to be the best team in the East, let alone
- 6:47Speaker 3: in the National League, which I think that's what they
- 6:49Speaker 3: want to be. And everything is going wrong right now.
- 6:54Speaker 3: The team forgot to hit with runners in scoring position,
- 6:57Speaker 3: and when they did, you can't over You can't overcome
- 7:01Speaker 3: five straight starters not getting into the fifth inning. You
- 7:05Speaker 3: can't overcome that. There is just especially in July and August,
- 7:09Speaker 3: because the bullpen's just going to be so exhausted and granted.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Beginning of the season when the Mets were hot and
- 7:16Speaker 3: even Jan Soda wasn't hitting during that time or to
- 7:19Speaker 3: Juan Soto levels, the team was winning because this bullpen
- 7:24Speaker 3: was ridiculous. It was just a cavalcade of dudes who
- 7:28Speaker 3: were just having career years. Some have been sent down
- 7:31Speaker 3: to Triple A, and now this bullpen is getting tired.
- 7:35Speaker 3: You need your starters to go longer. This team wasn't
- 7:38Speaker 3: built for starters to go longer. One of their free
- 7:40Speaker 3: agent signings, I'm not called in Sean Manyah free agent
- 7:43Speaker 3: signing because I was a great signing, you know, brought
- 7:46Speaker 3: them back comfortable where he's at. Didn't work out, and
- 7:49Speaker 3: you can't miss if you don't have a lot of
- 7:52Speaker 3: signings that are going to give you length.
- 7:54Speaker 2: And they're not getting any length right now.
- 7:56Speaker 3: I don't know what's going wrong except and they're throwing
- 7:59Speaker 3: some absolute meatballs up there because they're behind in the count.
- 8:03Speaker 3: To me, it just looks like the pitching staff does
- 8:05Speaker 3: not trust they can get outs in the zone.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Hey, we love ripping slab packs on Arena Club. I
- 8:12Speaker 1: just ripped one in a Ruby pack. Those are fancy
- 8:15Speaker 1: schmancy kip and I pulled a matt Shaw twenty twenty
- 8:20Speaker 1: three Bowman Draft Aqua Lunar Creater Refractor card and I
- 8:24Speaker 1: guess what. Guess what? I got a little offer. You
- 8:27Speaker 1: get the instant offer right away. Okay, so they're offering
- 8:30Speaker 1: me one hundred and twenty one bucks, sell it back
- 8:32Speaker 1: and then I can get a new slab pack. What
- 8:34Speaker 1: do I do?
- 8:35Speaker 4: I want to see this thing? Hold on, look at that.
- 8:38Speaker 4: That's a beautiful card.
- 8:39Speaker 2: You know what.
- 8:40Speaker 4: I think that's a safe bet. I think it's gonna
- 8:43Speaker 4: make you a little bit of money. I think the
- 8:44Speaker 4: more more big league time he gets, I'd almost take
- 8:48Speaker 4: the deal, though, I'm in it for the chase. I
- 8:50Speaker 4: like opening more packs. I think that one hundred and
- 8:52Speaker 4: twenty one can buy you a couple more slabs to open,
- 8:55Speaker 4: and uh, I think you keep chasing until you get
- 8:57Speaker 4: someone you really like.
- 8:58Speaker 2: But that's the best part about it for me. That's right.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You can sell it back one hundred and twenty one
- 9:02Speaker 1: bucks and then open up another slab pack use the
- 9:04Speaker 1: code foul to receive twenty percent off your first slab
- 9:06Speaker 1: packer card purchase at arenaclub dot com slash foul. So
- 9:10Speaker 1: David Peterson was the bright spot here, right, all star
- 9:13Speaker 1: giving this team length, we can show that Anthony Dicomo
- 9:15Speaker 1: tweet two covers the Mets on a daily basis, and
- 9:19Speaker 1: you said they have received five hundred and ninety four
- 9:21Speaker 1: and a third innings from their starters this season. That
- 9:23Speaker 1: is twenty seventh in baseball since June thirteenth, a spent
- 9:27Speaker 1: of exactly two months. They are dead last in that category.
- 9:30Speaker 1: He said, they simply cannot keep doing this and expect
- 9:32Speaker 1: to win consistently. I will point some other parts out.
- 9:35Speaker 1: When you do lottery ticket signings of free agent starters,
- 9:38Speaker 1: it's not going to be as perfect as it was
- 9:40Speaker 1: last year. Every time. Example, a Frankie montas we mentioned
- 9:45Speaker 1: him yesterday, he got demoted to the bullpen. That's a
- 9:48Speaker 1: seventeen million dollar a year starter, right, That was a
- 9:50Speaker 1: similar rate that you were paying for Luis Sevorino last year.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Or a Sean Mania who broke out with the team
- 9:57Speaker 1: last year. You're not going to hit on all those.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I'll give you another example, Kratz. Clay Holmes was on
- 10:04Speaker 1: fire to start the season for the Mets. Didn't give
- 10:07Speaker 1: up a home run in his first seven starts. It's
- 10:09Speaker 1: got good stuff. But guess what, He's never done this before.
- 10:13Speaker 1: He's never done a full season as a starter. Look
- 10:15Speaker 1: back at last year Raynaldo Lopez takes the league by storm.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Eventually later in the season, Fades gets hurt and has
- 10:22Speaker 1: missed most of this season as well. Not saying it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: going to be the exact same fate, but relying on
- 10:27Speaker 1: Clay to be as good as he was in the
- 10:29Speaker 1: beginning of the season was false hope. His expected RA
- 10:33Speaker 1: was much higher. He was giving up some hard contacts,
- 10:35Speaker 1: so there was some batted ball luck, and that is
- 10:37Speaker 1: actually reversed now is expected DRA is actually much lower
- 10:41Speaker 1: than his RA in the second half of the season.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But point being, it's all falling apart at the same time.
- 10:47Speaker 1: And when we do send out a little warning at
- 10:49Speaker 1: the beginning of the season that we like this team,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but we're feeling a little bit uneasy about the starting rotation,
- 10:55Speaker 1: it doesn't mean that in April. It means now here
- 10:59Speaker 1: we are. Oh, let's try and get past this. They've
- 11:02Speaker 1: lost nine to eleven games so far in August. Do
- 11:05Speaker 1: we think that they will bounce back because I think
- 11:07Speaker 1: that the offense will continue to turn things around. I
- 11:10Speaker 1: know Lindor has been slower since that injury, and Soto's
- 11:13Speaker 1: been really consistently good all year. If you're pointing to
- 11:16Speaker 1: Soto and thinking that he's the problem with around a
- 11:18Speaker 1: one to fifty ops plus, look up his career stats.
- 11:21Speaker 1: His career stats are one fifty something ops plus. He's
- 11:24Speaker 1: doing exactly what he does exactly his brand of baseball.
- 11:28Speaker 1: It is what it is. He's close to thirty homers,
- 11:30Speaker 1: he gets on base. He is one Soto right now.
- 11:33Speaker 1: So I think he takes zero blame for this.
- 11:36Speaker 3: Except except if you're going to say we could have
- 11:40Speaker 3: taken some of that money and invested in a pitcher.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Don't say Juan Soto socks. He's not hitting with runnings
- 11:46Speaker 3: the scoring position. Besides, last year, Jan Soto is not
- 11:49Speaker 3: this like one hundred and thirty RBI guy. He is
- 11:53Speaker 3: going to be in the ilk of somebody who doesn't
- 11:55Speaker 3: chase out of the zone that Joey Vado type. Plus
- 11:59Speaker 3: he's hitting a ton of homers. I think it is
- 12:01Speaker 3: twenty ninth homer, So he's gonna have thirty five to
- 12:05Speaker 3: forty homers this year, which is great, But his RBIs
- 12:08Speaker 3: aren't going to be in one hundred and thirty a
- 12:12Speaker 3: season because he doesn't chase. And with runners of scoring position,
- 12:16Speaker 3: pitchers try to get you to chase, and he just
- 12:18Speaker 3: won't do it just to like, just to drive one
- 12:20Speaker 3: run in. It's just not his mo And that's okay,
- 12:23Speaker 3: it's not his fault. It is this offense will turn around,
- 12:27Speaker 3: and I actually think this offense has shown their turning
- 12:30Speaker 3: around to me. They need to figure out how to
- 12:35Speaker 3: try to get outs in the zone when you have
- 12:38Speaker 3: a six run lead like last night, you cannot walk
- 12:41Speaker 3: five batters. You can't walk five batters in the game
- 12:44Speaker 3: when you have six run lead, because one solo home
- 12:47Speaker 3: run never gets you back in the game. A grand
- 12:51Speaker 3: slam when two of those guys were walked does get
- 12:54Speaker 3: the other team back in the game. You can't walk back.
- 12:57Speaker 3: And to me, this is on the pitchers, This is
- 13:00Speaker 3: on Jeremy Hefner, this is on the catching court. They
- 13:05Speaker 3: have to get these guys back in the zone. And
- 13:08Speaker 3: it starts tonight because they don't have a day off.
- 13:10Speaker 3: It starts tonight with Senga.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't have many days off for a while.
- 13:15Speaker 1: They have the eighteenth on Monday. That's it for the
- 13:17Speaker 1: rest of the month. So it is what it is.
- 13:19Speaker 1: If they could look back and make a trade for
- 13:21Speaker 1: a starter at the trade deadline, they would, but it's
- 13:25Speaker 1: too late. That's why the trade deadline is done at
- 13:28Speaker 1: the end of July, and it is what it is.
- 13:29Speaker 1: They're one game ahead of the Reds right now. It's
- 13:31Speaker 1: almost a fresh season here, right We're going to be
- 13:34Speaker 1: head to head against the Reds, who are one game
- 13:36Speaker 1: off of the wild card spot. Right now, you have
- 13:39Speaker 1: the Dodgers and the Cubs ahead of them. And for
- 13:41Speaker 1: the Mets, after one more against Atlanta tonight, it doesn't
- 13:44Speaker 1: get easier. They are at home, but they take on
- 13:47Speaker 1: a roaring Seattle Mariners team that can really pitch and
- 13:51Speaker 1: they can swing the bats, so it gets a little
- 13:53Speaker 1: lighter after that. They have three against the Nats. That's
- 13:55Speaker 1: probably one of the best teams to face right now.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That team is not in good shape. But then it's
- 14:00Speaker 1: more Braves than the Phillies. Four against the Marlins. You
- 14:04Speaker 1: take on division opponents who have seen your pitching a lot,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and then the last month of the season, they do
- 14:08Speaker 1: have three against the Reds, they have four against the Phillies,
- 14:10Speaker 1: three against the Tigers. They've got some padres in there,
- 14:13Speaker 1: some cubs in there. This is not going to be easy,
- 14:15Speaker 1: so to be continued. But they need to figure this
- 14:18Speaker 1: out fast, and the answer might be that they have
- 14:20Speaker 1: some good pitching prospects that could be ready to go.
- 14:23Speaker 1: One of them, Nolan MacLean, who's going to pitch on
- 14:25Speaker 1: the weekend. A lot of pressure on them, but Kate
- 14:26Speaker 1: Horton's doing it for the Cubs. We'll see if they
- 14:28Speaker 1: get the same kind of production here from there. Guys,
- 14:33Speaker 1: let's answer one fan question on this topic or statement
- 14:36Speaker 1: BM in the chat said, Soto's an exact replica of
- 14:38Speaker 1: what he was on the twenty three padres individual, mercenary,
- 14:41Speaker 1: badfield or overhyped? What happened to Realistically evaluating this guy?
- 14:45Speaker 1: What am I missing here? Looks like the same guy
- 14:47Speaker 1: on defense, looks like the same guy on offense. I
- 14:50Speaker 1: can't speak to how he is inside the clubhouse. Most
- 14:52Speaker 1: of the Mets guys are speaking nicely of him, so
- 14:54Speaker 1: and you can never accuse Juan Soto of being like
- 14:58Speaker 1: a clubhouse camp or something like that. He does not
- 15:01Speaker 1: have that rep if you don't think he's the one
- 15:03Speaker 1: leading the charge in a meeting or something like that. Okay,
- 15:06Speaker 1: the Metals have guys like that. Lindor is one of them,
- 15:09Speaker 1: Pete Alonzo to an extent, Right, there's other guys there
- 15:12Speaker 1: that figure out ways to kind of lead ball clubs.
- 15:14Speaker 1: And also, let's just drop it with the chemistry stuff
- 15:17Speaker 1: right now. Is this a chemistry issue with the Mets
- 15:21Speaker 1: or is it a lack of pitchers going deep into games.
- 15:25Speaker 3: I'm only going to hit on the Wan Soto part
- 15:27Speaker 3: because we just hit on all the other stuff. Wan
- 15:30Speaker 3: Soto for his entire career has been exactly what he
- 15:35Speaker 3: is now. Last year was he won seventy nine ops plus? Sure, okay,
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm sorry, I didn't get the ops one seventy eight,
- 15:42Speaker 3: one seventy eight ops plus. Every other year it's one
- 15:45Speaker 3: fifty eight, one fifty eight. His MVP year was the
- 15:48Speaker 3: short strike shortens, I mean, the COVID season. But this
- 15:52Speaker 3: is what you're getting. And oh, by the way, he's
- 15:55Speaker 3: got eighteen bags. So if you think this guy's not
- 15:58Speaker 3: coming out to like win games and all this stuff,
- 16:00Speaker 3: he doesn't have to accumulate stats anymore. He's doing exactly
- 16:03Speaker 3: what you should have thought he was gonna do. And
- 16:07Speaker 3: it ain't his fault until something comes out where he's
- 16:09Speaker 3: like choking somebody out in the clubhouse. He's not a
- 16:12Speaker 3: bad clubhouse guy. Don't put that on him.
- 16:17Speaker 1: For those of you complaining about C. B. Buckner, oh
- 16:19Speaker 1: don't you worry. We have a whole segment on him
- 16:21Speaker 1: coming up in a minute. AJ. Good to see you.
- 16:24Speaker 1: How's our buddy Tom Brady doing.
- 16:26Speaker 5: He's good.
- 16:27Speaker 6: I'd never met Tom until twenty five minutes ago. We're
- 16:30Speaker 6: actually a little bit forty five minutes ago. Yeah, it
- 16:33Speaker 6: was nice. I asked him to come on the show.
- 16:35Speaker 6: He said he would possibly down the road talk baseball. Yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 6: he's good. He's he's Tom Brady. I mean, there you go.
- 16:44Speaker 6: I mean, what do you want me to say, tom Brady?
- 16:47Speaker 6: It's Tom Brady.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Have him stand behind you. It makes you look short.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And you're not tall.
- 16:54Speaker 3: He's too much short though, Yeah, but just have him
- 16:57Speaker 3: stand behind you, like he knows how to take a
- 17:00Speaker 3: picture like like, look at how much bigger I looked
- 17:03Speaker 3: at you? Because I'm up. Yeah, me and Scott are
- 17:05Speaker 3: way bigger than ay Jan. That's not the case. Like
- 17:09Speaker 3: he knows, he's he's aware. Next time, you know, maybe
- 17:13Speaker 3: get a picture like from the side, like biceps, he's looking.
- 17:18Speaker 5: He is skinny.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Should I put the one leg up like everyone does,
- 17:21Speaker 6: like where they go like put the one leg up?
- 17:25Speaker 2: No, that's I don't know.
- 17:29Speaker 5: Oh that's what. He didn't know who I was, though
- 17:31Speaker 5: I'm proud he didn't know who I was.
- 17:33Speaker 6: You know, this is really kind of funny. You know
- 17:35Speaker 6: why he knew who I was because I played for
- 17:37Speaker 6: the Giants and he's a Giants fan. He's like, oh,
- 17:39Speaker 6: you played for the Giants and I was like I did.
- 17:41Speaker 6: He's like how many What year was that? And I
- 17:43Speaker 6: was like two thousand and four and he's like, oh,
- 17:45Speaker 6: that was Barry's good year. And then Brad Zieger that
- 17:48Speaker 6: one of the heads of Fox Sports. Cause yeah, he's
- 17:49Speaker 6: the one that hit behind him. That's why you walk

- 19:01Speaker 1: Ump Show is back. The new Angel Hernandez has a name.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's CB Buckner. He's been in the league for a
- 19:07Speaker 1: long period of time. It's time first inning Dodgers Angels
- 19:13Speaker 1: seven misses. It's embarrassing at this point. It's a really
- 19:18Speaker 1: tough watch, guys, if you're watching this live, it doesn't
- 19:21Speaker 1: feel like a big league game is being called, and
- 19:24Speaker 1: this is pretty frequent. We'll show you how he did
- 19:28Speaker 1: in last night's game. We'll show you the UMP, auditor score,
- 19:30Speaker 1: the whole deal. You know, it's bad when most broadcasters
- 19:34Speaker 1: are told to take it a little bit easy on umps.
- 19:36Speaker 1: If you're an MLB or a team broadcaster, and everyone's like, yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 1: we can't fake this. This is even too much for
- 19:43Speaker 1: anybody else to deal with. So our buddy Steven Nelson's
- 19:47Speaker 1: watching this, like, yeah, right, so that one. Both of
- 19:51Speaker 1: those are called strikes. If you're looking at the screen
- 19:53Speaker 1: right now, If you're listening to us podcast wise later on,
- 19:56Speaker 1: I highly advise that you at least tune in for
- 19:59Speaker 1: this segment. What am I looking at right now?
- 20:02Speaker 5: Listen?
- 20:03Speaker 6: Cebe is a nice guy and Kratzl he's a nice
- 20:06Speaker 6: guy when you talk to him, but there's always.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Been a thing about him in the league.
- 20:10Speaker 6: When you see him on the list, you're like, boys,
- 20:12Speaker 6: be careful today because it might not go exactly correct,
- 20:15Speaker 6: and just don't get run. So he'd have good games.
- 20:19Speaker 6: He had bad games. Everyone has a bad day. Seebe's
- 20:21Speaker 6: a nice guy, but he has been known to have
- 20:23Speaker 6: a bad game or two, and last night was not
- 20:26Speaker 6: a good game, first inning included, but it went to
- 20:29Speaker 6: the It went all the way to the ninth inning.
- 20:30Speaker 6: It wasn't like he got better. He just stayed the same.
- 20:33Speaker 6: And everyone just gets used to it.
- 20:36Speaker 3: You do, and that is something that back not to
- 20:39Speaker 3: be a back in the day guy, but you get
- 20:42Speaker 3: used to it. I heard an umpire once say when
- 20:43Speaker 3: I first tim McClellan, when I first got into the
- 20:45Speaker 3: big leagues, he's like, if I call his own bigger early,
- 20:49Speaker 3: guys start swinging. And then he said, by the fifth,
- 20:52Speaker 3: sixth inning, I shrink it. Guys are already aggressive. They're
- 20:56Speaker 3: not just taking every borderline pitch. We're not in that
- 20:59Speaker 3: day and age anymore. I don't think CB was trying
- 21:02Speaker 3: to do this, but it's really concerning to me because
- 21:06Speaker 3: Kendrick was out there like, he doesn't throw one hundred
- 21:11Speaker 3: miles an hour. It's not like one of the pitches
- 21:13Speaker 3: of the seven that he missed in the first inning
- 21:15Speaker 3: was from show, Hey, who's throwing a hundred? Hey, you
- 21:17Speaker 3: know what, maybe it's too fast for you. Our boy
- 21:21Speaker 3: was out there throwing eighty eight eighty nine, sinking it,
- 21:24Speaker 3: cutting it, change ups and he wasn't seeing it. It
- 21:26Speaker 3: was a bad first inning, but it's tougher when it's
- 21:30Speaker 3: somebody that's constant, routinely, year in and year out, not
- 21:34Speaker 3: been good.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We have a little clip we can run of Stephen Nelson,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Dodgers broadcaster, having fun with the scenario, and you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: it's what life's about. You got to make fun of
- 21:45Speaker 1: the tough times.
- 21:47Speaker 3: Two point to two e er all excuse me, strike one.
- 21:56Speaker 1: They were like, yeah, you're gonna They basically said on
- 21:59Speaker 1: the broadcast after that, you're gonna have to wait to
- 22:02Speaker 1: make your call longer as the broadcaster, even for the
- 22:05Speaker 1: obvious ones, because he might get that wrong. They literally
- 22:08Speaker 1: spoke about that on the broadcast. And then later on
- 22:12Speaker 1: in that inning he said ball four for the strikeout
- 22:17Speaker 1: when Freeland was up and took one well off the
- 22:19Speaker 1: plate to end the top of the first.
- 22:22Speaker 6: Listen, I'm telling you it wasn't just the first inning.
- 22:25Speaker 6: Watch the seventh, eighth, and ninth inning. It was the
- 22:27Speaker 6: same thing. There were balls in the dock, you know,
- 22:29Speaker 6: they light up on their strikes. There was especially at
- 22:32Speaker 6: the top of the zone, and I was watching the
- 22:34Speaker 6: Angels broadcast. I was watching Wayne Rendezo and Mark Uz
- 22:37Speaker 6: and they made the same comments. There was a pitch
- 22:40Speaker 6: that was clearly a strike and they showed the box
- 22:43Speaker 6: and I don't know if it was Wayne or Gooby
- 22:45Speaker 6: that said, well, that ball is all the way in
- 22:47Speaker 6: the box, not even just touching an edge, and we
- 22:50Speaker 6: don't know where it missed.
- 22:51Speaker 5: So it was.
- 22:52Speaker 6: It wasn't like it was just the first inning. I
- 22:54Speaker 6: don't know if we have the scorecard, but it was
- 22:56Speaker 6: the whole nine innings. It was all nine innings of this.
- 23:00Speaker 3: That's that's Christmas tree. That's light up Christmas tree. There
- 23:04Speaker 3: just green red balls called strikes, strikes called balls.
- 23:09Speaker 2: It's not good.
- 23:10Speaker 3: I mean, hey, Logan O Hoppies out there getting he's
- 23:14Speaker 3: getting big time credits going as arbitration a game like
- 23:16Speaker 3: that where he has a plus plus what was it say,
- 23:20Speaker 3: plus one oh two run save for run run advantage
- 23:25Speaker 3: for for his receiving numbers.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Like oh, they love that. That's huge.
- 23:31Speaker 3: Reality is he just wasn't very good last night. He
- 23:34Speaker 3: wasn't very good. And that is It's tough. I mean,
- 23:37Speaker 3: that's gonna be There's gonna be a lot of this
- 23:40Speaker 3: next year if you're gonna have a game like that.
- 23:42Speaker 6: Hey, So can I say something about this though, because
- 23:45Speaker 6: I want to. I want to ask you about Crowtzy
- 23:47Speaker 6: and Scott about this. So you're talking about the ABS
- 23:50Speaker 6: next year, right and this tapping. So I've been when
- 23:53Speaker 6: I go to the stadiums a lot of times I
- 23:54Speaker 6: talk to umpires. I go in the umpire room and
- 23:57Speaker 6: I talk to the umpires and just to say, because
- 23:59Speaker 6: I know I still a lot of the umpires, so
- 24:01Speaker 6: I go in there and say hi, and you know,
- 24:02Speaker 6: how's it going guys? Or I see him in the
- 24:04Speaker 6: tunnel and talk to him, and you know, umpires have
- 24:07Speaker 6: been telling me that, especially guys that have been in
- 24:09Speaker 6: the ABS down in the Triple A's, that catchers and
- 24:12Speaker 6: this is gonna sound funny to do crats, but this
- 24:14Speaker 6: is something that I never thought about. Catchers were like, say,
- 24:17Speaker 6: it's the first pitch of the game and they just
- 24:19Speaker 6: box it, but they box it on purpose, right, so
- 24:22Speaker 6: it's right down the middle, and they go and they
- 24:24Speaker 6: clank it or they move it away out of the
- 24:26Speaker 6: strike zone, and then the hitter's like, damn, do I
- 24:29Speaker 6: need to challenge that? And the mPire still has to
- 24:30Speaker 6: call it a strike, right, and then the guy goes
- 24:32Speaker 6: like this, and then they lose their challenge.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Like, come, you ever thought about that?
- 24:37Speaker 2: That?
- 24:37Speaker 6: Like the catchers early in games box balls on purpose
- 24:40Speaker 6: that are that they know are strikes, but they're kind
- 24:42Speaker 6: of borderline.
- 24:43Speaker 5: They're like oh oh man, oh right.
- 24:46Speaker 6: And then they get and they lose their challenges and
- 24:48Speaker 6: people people are saying that down in the in the
- 24:50Speaker 6: Triple A and stuff, that the catchers are starting to
- 24:53Speaker 6: do this. That's smart as hell if you think about it.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Wow, I never thought about that, what I what I
- 24:58Speaker 3: mean gaming gaming, The gamers like that, Hey, we're gonna
- 25:03Speaker 3: see it. We're gonna see it, so I'm interested in
- 25:06Speaker 3: to see. But that is that is something I've never heard.
- 25:09Speaker 6: I'd never thought about it, never heard it. But I
- 25:11Speaker 6: like the initiative by the catchers, right, Scott. I mean,
- 25:14Speaker 6: you gotta game the game, right, So if it's a
- 25:16Speaker 6: deep like you know, you know, if I have fastball
- 25:18Speaker 6: is coming, you're the catcher and you're setup away and
- 25:20Speaker 6: you know it's a strike, and you kind of just oh,
- 25:23Speaker 6: like you know you could do that, and then the
- 25:25Speaker 6: hitters like out of his mind. He's like, man, was
- 25:27Speaker 6: that really a strike? And they drop the challenge, they
- 25:29Speaker 6: lose it. And you do that a couple of times,
- 25:31Speaker 6: they're out in the second third inning later on, it
- 25:34Speaker 6: saves you good gamesmanship.
- 25:36Speaker 1: That's good deep Hey, if you got someone to fall
- 25:38Speaker 1: for that, just like we see deeps in the field.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Sometimes that look silly, but occasionally they work and you're like, hey.
- 25:43Speaker 5: But he's good.
- 25:44Speaker 6: Here's the thing though, from the dugout, everyone's god, that's
- 25:48Speaker 6: not a strike.
- 25:48Speaker 5: Look how he caught it? No, no, no, But.
- 25:50Speaker 6: In reality, if you're good enough to do it, then
- 25:52Speaker 6: people see it and they're like, oh, challenge, challenge, you know, Kratz.
- 25:56Speaker 5: I know it's crazy, but it could work.
- 25:58Speaker 3: You're you're you're off so kind of playing you're playing
- 26:02Speaker 3: the you know, it's almost like a coin flip game,
- 26:05Speaker 3: like that's it may or may not work. But to me,
- 26:10Speaker 3: like all the receiving not even to me, the whole
- 26:12Speaker 3: receiving number is do you get that fifty to fifty
- 26:15Speaker 3: ball because over here you miss it. Okay, whatever, that's
- 26:20Speaker 3: more points, but it's a pitch that's missed a lot less.
- 26:23Speaker 3: It's that fifty to fifty ball right down the middle.
- 26:26Speaker 3: If you can accumulate the most fifty to fifty balls
- 26:29Speaker 3: being called strikes. That's where the value is not getting
- 26:33Speaker 3: this pitch is this far off the plate called a strike,
- 26:36Speaker 3: or this pitch is this far on the plate called
- 26:39Speaker 3: a ball. You know it's it's those borderline pitches. So
- 26:43Speaker 3: ultimately it's gonna be about the borderline pitches. But it'll
- 26:46Speaker 3: be interesting to see. I've never thought about that, and
- 26:48Speaker 3: I'm excited to see some dude just first pitch of
- 26:51Speaker 3: the game, just just oh man, I can't believe I
- 26:55Speaker 3: missed that one.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Framing is still in play. I just want to make
- 26:59Speaker 1: that clear because of the fact that you can only challenge.
- 27:02Speaker 1: It'll only be two or three times in a game.
- 27:05Speaker 1: So let's say you use one early and you're wrong, right,
- 27:07Speaker 1: and then you have one left, say for the rest
- 27:08Speaker 1: of the game, okay, or even if you had two left.
- 27:11Speaker 1: But it's the middle of a game and a catcher
- 27:13Speaker 1: is just a framing monster and it's close. You can't
- 27:17Speaker 1: take that risk. Can't take that risk when in the
- 27:20Speaker 1: ninth inning your best hitter might be up, so the
- 27:22Speaker 1: framing is still going to be in play. I love
- 27:24Speaker 1: the gamesmanship component of this. This is where ft takes
- 27:28Speaker 1: center stage. We got two catchers on the show every day,
- 27:30Speaker 1: and it's going to be the top story in baseball
- 27:32Speaker 1: next year.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Here's the thing. Here's also something else to think about.
- 27:35Speaker 6: And a lot of these guys that I've talked to
- 27:37Speaker 6: have said this, It wears on an umpire. I know,
- 27:40Speaker 6: umpires do the best they can. Listen, most umpires are
- 27:42Speaker 6: really good at their job, and ninety nine percent of
- 27:45Speaker 6: the games we don't talk about, right, but this new
- 27:48Speaker 6: ABS system. Mentally, think about it if in the first
- 27:50Speaker 6: two winnings there's like five of these and they're wrong,
- 27:53Speaker 6: and then they're like, oh my gosh, what is wrong
- 27:56Speaker 6: with me? And then it starts becoming a mental thing.
- 27:58Speaker 6: Like hitting you go for twenty you're like, oh, never
- 28:00Speaker 6: gonna get in a hit again. Right, these umpires in
- 28:02Speaker 6: the middle of a game, they miss four or five
- 28:04Speaker 6: in boom boom, boom boom, let's let's check it, and
- 28:06Speaker 6: they're all wrong. To the umpire man, it's got to
- 28:08Speaker 6: get in their head a little bit too. So, I mean,
- 28:10Speaker 6: there's things that I never thought about that they're starting
- 28:13Speaker 6: to come up.
- 28:13Speaker 5: And it's it's gonna be fascinating when this hits.
- 28:16Speaker 1: It's gonna be a long.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I think it'll be I think it'll be good though,
- 28:19Speaker 3: because a game like last night, CEB has that many.
- 28:22Speaker 3: He has three wrong in the first inning. Unless you
- 28:26Speaker 3: are just completely zoned out and could care less about
- 28:28Speaker 3: your job, which I don't think these guys do at all.
- 28:31Speaker 3: He's gonna lock in and it's gonna You're just gonna
- 28:34Speaker 3: automatically get better.
- 28:38Speaker 1: We have a little breaking news on Hello Fresh. We've
- 28:41Speaker 1: talked about him for a long time, but this summer
- 28:43Speaker 1: they have their biggest menu upgrade yet. Ready for this,

- 29:39Speaker 1: the first nineteen wrong in the game. So I was
- 29:41Speaker 1: gonna say, it's not usually going to extend any time.
- 29:45Speaker 1: But if there's nineteen wrong and let's say a team
- 29:47Speaker 1: challenges twelve or thirteen of those, I mean it's going
- 29:49Speaker 1: to be a fun watch, okay, because you're not going
- 29:51Speaker 1: to get that very often where there's twelve or thirteen
- 29:53Speaker 1: going against the yump. That's just crazy in a game
- 29:57Speaker 1: like that where you can't challenge every single pitch, But
- 29:59Speaker 1: it's going to be fun. A couple questions, as we've
- 30:01Speaker 1: been talking about this bird on the YouTube chats that
- 30:06Speaker 1: are umps required to get eyesight tests? Stupid question, but curious.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I mean they go beyond an eyesight test. No, I
- 30:13Speaker 1: mean they're actually going through an umpire program and umpiring
- 30:16Speaker 1: in the minor leagues and getting called up. I do understand.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Once you're up, you're up right, So I don't think
- 30:22Speaker 1: they're getting anything retested, but they do give them report
- 30:26Speaker 1: cards after every game of how they did, and that
- 30:29Speaker 1: helps to decide who's doing what assignments. But an no
- 30:35Speaker 1: crafts a my off on that.
- 30:37Speaker 3: No, oh, what assignments you mean like World series and
- 30:40Speaker 3: stuff like that.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a post It doesn't work exactly like this,
- 30:44Speaker 1: but they have their grading system. It even includes how
- 30:47Speaker 1: you're dealing with people like the you know, how many
- 30:49Speaker 1: times you're getting into it with managers and players and
- 30:52Speaker 1: all of that. We talked about this, right because we've
- 30:54Speaker 1: done World Series postgame shows and we're like, why is
- 30:57Speaker 1: this on behind home plate right now? This guy's got
- 31:00Speaker 1: an eighty seven percent clip and the best one in
- 31:02Speaker 1: the league's ninety two. Why is the ninety two not there?
- 31:04Speaker 1: But I'm saying there is supposed to be some type
- 31:06Speaker 1: of incentivization that if you're doing a good job by
- 31:09Speaker 1: whatever grading system they're using, you will get, you know,
- 31:13Speaker 1: maybe an All Star game or postseason World series. You disagree, crats,
- 31:17Speaker 1: It's it's it's what's supposed to exist behind the scenes.
- 31:20Speaker 3: There's no accountability, Come on, stop, Like ninety two percent right.
- 31:24Speaker 3: That means you're allowed to miss sixteen total pitches if
- 31:30Speaker 3: you have a if you get a two hundred pitch game,
- 31:33Speaker 3: that's a lot of pitches because not all pitches are called,
- 31:37Speaker 3: you know, so there's ball put in play. But just
- 31:39Speaker 3: to give you an idea, if there's a two hundred
- 31:40Speaker 3: pitch game, that's a lot of pitches. That'd be sixteen
- 31:44Speaker 3: sixteen pitches they can miss. They can miss. The accountability
- 31:48Speaker 3: is and you're never losing your job. And we've seen
- 31:51Speaker 3: the guys who are actually in the big leagues, I
- 31:54Speaker 3: mean in the playoffs, and they're not always the best umpires.
- 31:59Speaker 3: If it was the umpires, I think you would get
- 32:01Speaker 3: more there's more accountability, you would get better games called.
- 32:06Speaker 3: But some of these bad umpires go to the playoffs
- 32:09Speaker 3: and have some of their best scores all season.
- 32:15Speaker 1: You're supposed to get rewarded. But I got what you're saying.
- 32:19Speaker 1: And there were one hundred eighty seven decisions to make
- 32:22Speaker 1: in the game that we're picking on with C. B. Buckner.
- 32:24Speaker 1: One hundred eighty seven decisions. So you do impact the
- 32:28Speaker 1: game quite a bit if you're an umpire. This is
- 32:30Speaker 1: going to at least help things one more real quick
- 32:32Speaker 1: on this moral are problem childs who we have fun
- 32:34Speaker 1: with sometimes. In the YouTube chat said how much time
- 32:37Speaker 1: does the hitter have to challenge? One second? Question mark?
- 32:40Speaker 1: Or hitters going to be looking into the dugout immediately
- 32:42Speaker 1: after a borderline pitch to see if they should challenge.
- 32:44Speaker 1: The whole name of the game here is that you
- 32:45Speaker 1: have to immediately make a decision. So I don't know
- 32:48Speaker 1: if they said it's one second, but it is essentially
- 32:51Speaker 1: one second.
- 32:53Speaker 3: So what I what I was told, and I'd have
- 32:55Speaker 3: to I'd have to ask a triple a umpire right
- 32:57Speaker 3: now or an umpire that's been doing it.
- 33:00Speaker 2: If if you.
- 33:01Speaker 3: View even if it's in one second, and you look
- 33:04Speaker 3: over that, if you're getting any kind of help from
- 33:08Speaker 3: a coach from the dugout, they can.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Be like nope, no, no, no, no, no, no, you can't.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Now if you if you see it and you're like,
- 33:15Speaker 3: oh wait wait, I want to challenge, then it might
- 33:18Speaker 3: have actually taken longer to do that. But if they
- 33:22Speaker 3: deem that you were getting help from somebody else, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Okay, AJ, you're hearing the same thing now I'm thinking
- 33:31Speaker 1: about a runner at second base who immediately sees the
- 33:33Speaker 1: pitch and does one of those yankee jumping Jackson says, hey,
- 33:38Speaker 1: challenge this.
- 33:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I don't.
- 33:43Speaker 6: I don't know. I don't know. It's gonna be This
- 33:46Speaker 6: is gonna be fascinating. I'm all for. It's gonna be fascinating.
- 33:48Speaker 6: It's gonna be so amazing. How many times early it
- 33:51Speaker 6: goes like this, How many guys waste them? Who gets
- 33:53Speaker 6: to use them when they use them? The gamesmanship, the
- 33:57Speaker 6: umpire ship, Oh, it's gonna be awesome.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and for those that night.
- 34:03Speaker 6: But that's why I don't want full roboms either. I
- 34:05Speaker 6: want there to be some more more stuff going on.
- 34:09Speaker 1: You're going to get that last night would go ultraviral
- 34:13Speaker 1: for how many times you're going to see teams challenge
- 34:16Speaker 1: and win those challenges to correct someone like this. So
- 34:18Speaker 1: if you've been waiting for that moment, this will penalize
- 34:21Speaker 1: an umpire because you're going to have a frigging five
- 34:23Speaker 1: hour game if you're challenging every pitch that they get.
- 34:26Speaker 1: On question from Ricky in the chat said Kratz and
- 34:29Speaker 1: aj doms get mental health days if they just aren't
- 34:33Speaker 1: at the right frame at times, like in the right
- 34:35Speaker 1: frame of mind, they are human.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Not that I know.
- 34:39Speaker 6: If they get vacation though, you know what their mental
- 34:41Speaker 6: health days are, and they get to go to New
- 34:43Speaker 6: York for a week and sit in the room for
- 34:45Speaker 6: three hours and maybe get one call in three hours,
- 34:48Speaker 6: that's their mental health days. And they get vacations though,
- 34:52Speaker 6: a lot of these guys get like two weeks off.
- 34:54Speaker 6: I think in their week two week stints, I think
- 34:57Speaker 6: where they get to go off, go home and hang
- 35:00Speaker 6: out with their families and all that which everyone needs.
- 35:01Speaker 6: So players don't even get that. So I think it's
- 35:04Speaker 6: I think it's good, but they don't get mental health days.
- 35:07Speaker 6: I don't think it's I don't think it's two weeks.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I think they go. I think they go in a
- 35:12Speaker 2: six week rotation.
- 35:13Speaker 3: I think it's six weeks and then they skip a series,
- 35:16Speaker 3: and then they go six weeks and they skip a series.
- 35:19Speaker 3: Want one guy, so your crew kind of stays together,
- 35:22Speaker 3: but then they're intermingling or dispersing the triple A guys
- 35:27Speaker 3: who are getting called up to fill in. I think
- 35:29Speaker 3: that's how I think that's how it is now, but
- 35:32Speaker 3: I can't I can confirm that. But yes, they get
- 35:35Speaker 3: time off, not mental health days that I know, but
- 35:40Speaker 3: I'm sure that kind of stuff's I mean their employees,
- 35:43Speaker 3: so they know and they do get health checks. Somebody
- 35:46Speaker 3: asked me for about the I checks. I know the
- 35:49Speaker 3: trainer who's in charge of all of the umpires, and
- 35:52Speaker 3: they do the exact same checks that we do in
- 35:55Speaker 3: spring training at the beginning of the year.
- 35:57Speaker 2: So they're checking all that stuff.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Doesn't mean there's like a standard you have to have
- 36:00Speaker 3: twenty twenty vision or something.
- 36:02Speaker 8: A lot of times when a player is called up
- 36:03Speaker 8: to the majors, the first question is is he ready
- 36:06Speaker 8: for the big leagues. Well, with Owen Casey, who's getting
- 36:10Speaker 8: called up by the Cubs, if he's not ready now,
- 36:12Speaker 8: I don't know when he'll be ready. He has almost
- 36:15Speaker 8: one thousand Triple A plate appearances, he has almost fifteen
- 36:18Speaker 8: hundred Double A and Triple A plate appearances. He's been
- 36:22Speaker 8: in Triple A for quite a while. He's been performing.
- 36:25Speaker 8: He's ready, So what can you expect from him if
- 36:27Speaker 8: he gets regular at bats. The crazy part of this
- 36:31Speaker 8: is is that I would know that Triple a's not
- 36:33Speaker 8: as challenging as the big leagues, obviously, but if you say,
- 36:38Speaker 8: what has he done in Triple A this year? It's
- 36:40Speaker 8: been really be almost a perfect analog for what Bryce
- 36:43Speaker 8: Harper is doing in the big leagues. Bryce Harper striking
- 36:46Speaker 8: out a little bit less, walking about the same rate
- 36:49Speaker 8: as ow In Casey is in Triple A.
- 36:51Speaker 2: In Triple a's.
- 36:51Speaker 8: Easier, But when you talk about how hard they hit
- 36:55Speaker 8: the ball, it's basically identical average EV max EV barrel rate,
- 37:00Speaker 8: hard hit rate, all these things are very similar. And
- 37:04Speaker 8: I would say that if you're looking for Casey to
- 37:07Speaker 8: mash against right handers, I think that that's very much
- 37:10Speaker 8: what he's ready to do. The one question will be
- 37:12Speaker 8: is if you want him to play against lefties. That's
- 37:15Speaker 8: a little bit more of a question. He's really more
- 37:17Speaker 8: of an opposite field hitter who's just trying to survive
- 37:21Speaker 8: against lefties. You don't see the same power against lefties
- 37:24Speaker 8: that he has against right handers. But Owen Casey has
- 37:28Speaker 8: been ready for a while now, and if he gets
- 37:30Speaker 8: some runway here, it'll be interesting to see what he
- 37:33Speaker 8: can do for the Cubs.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Tweet it out, Michael JJ Cooper said, Owen Casey is
- 37:38Speaker 1: Bryce Harper. Good stuff from JJ. Make sure you check
- 37:41Speaker 1: him out on Baseball America Hotchie, baseball america dot com.
- 37:43Speaker 1: But this is a twenty three year old. He's getting
- 37:45Speaker 1: called up, he's Canadian. He's getting called up for the
- 37:48Speaker 1: Cup series against the Blue Jays, finishing that one up
- 37:51Speaker 1: with a getaway day game. But hey, aj, I know
- 37:54Speaker 1: the question mark is where is he going to play?
- 37:56Speaker 1: The question mark also, but they held on to him,
- 37:59Speaker 1: and I think they could have dealt him for a
- 38:01Speaker 1: starter at the deadline, so there is some extra pressure
- 38:04Speaker 1: on him.
- 38:05Speaker 5: Where's he play? Scott? Where's he played? That's all I
- 38:07Speaker 5: want to know? Left field? Who's left field? Ian Ha?
- 38:10Speaker 5: Who's centerfield? Pca? Who's right field? Kyle Tucker? We're zooki
- 38:15Speaker 5: DH Yeah, where do you play him?
- 38:18Speaker 6: Where's he going to get playing time? It's cool story.
- 38:20Speaker 6: Happy for you, Ow and Casey. We interviewed in spring
- 38:22Speaker 6: training at the Clutchhouse. You're awesome, Alana, and I sat
- 38:24Speaker 6: down with you for a long time.
- 38:25Speaker 5: You were great.
- 38:26Speaker 6: But if he doesn't get regular bats, then what's the point.
- 38:29Speaker 6: I don't know, unless someone's hurt that we don't know about.
- 38:31Speaker 6: We're missing something here, crowds, Am I wrong?
- 38:43Speaker 1: The Brewers cannot lose a game. Now they're playing the
- 38:47Speaker 1: Pirates at the moment, one of the worst teams in baseball.
- 38:49Speaker 1: But still the Brewers cannot lose a game, right now?
- 38:53Speaker 1: Make it twelve in a row for Milwaukee. Hey, they
- 38:58Speaker 1: at least made it a little sweaty mid game. Brian
- 39:01Speaker 1: Reynolds put on a show. He was a one man
- 39:03Speaker 1: wrecking crew. I think it was back to back innings
- 39:05Speaker 1: when he had a two run homer and a three
- 39:06Speaker 1: run homer. But then eventually kratzyr Old boys pulled away again.
- 39:12Speaker 2: And they do it all.
- 39:12Speaker 3: They do it all, and everyone's like, ah, no way
- 39:15Speaker 3: they can continue this.
- 39:16Speaker 2: How can they do that?
- 39:17Speaker 3: They don't hit enough home runs, but the name of
- 39:20Speaker 3: the game is scoring runs. The Great Or as they
- 39:23Speaker 3: call him now, they had a T shirt King Vaughan.
- 39:26Speaker 3: Andrew Vaughn had a squeeze bunt to put the team
- 39:30Speaker 3: up five to one instead of four to one. I
- 39:33Speaker 3: think it was first and third and he squeezed against
- 39:35Speaker 3: Andrew Heeney, so he had the advantage left right and
- 39:39Speaker 3: he still was able to just what get an RBI
- 39:42Speaker 3: drive the run in. They're winning ball games and it's
- 39:45Speaker 3: twelve in a row. It's it's Uker magic. As all
- 39:48Speaker 3: the signs, as all the signs in the stadium are saying.
- 39:53Speaker 1: Company that gives away the Burgers agents getting the George
- 39:59Speaker 1: Webb it's called. I don't know a lot about all that.
- 40:02Speaker 6: Maybe I don't like the Canadian place because the Canadian
- 40:05Speaker 6: what's the Tim Hortons. George Webb's like Tim Hortons of Milwaukee.
- 40:11Speaker 3: No, I don't think that's what's called. I don't wanted
- 40:14Speaker 3: to fame the I don't want to fame the Burger company.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Find it for me, Scott, because we were all type
- 40:19Speaker 2: George Webin.
- 40:20Speaker 1: There's articles everywhere Milwaukee George Webburger giveaway. What you need
- 40:24Speaker 1: to know, when, where, and how to get a free
- 40:25Speaker 1: George Webberger. George Webb sets the time and date for
- 40:27Speaker 1: free burger giveaway. Again, like I'm not plugged into every
- 40:31Speaker 1: local giveaway scene. We just watched the Brewers every night
- 40:34Speaker 1: and now a lot of the postgame chats were about
- 40:36Speaker 1: how the Brewer is gonna get fans free burgers. Yeah,
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's a it's a restaurant thought I thought it was
- 40:43Speaker 1: when he was playing for Milwaukee. No, it's a restaurant
- 40:46Speaker 1: chain in Milwaukee. They announced on August fourteenth, or well
- 40:50Speaker 1: that's today. They announced where fans can get the burgers.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I'm trying to see when they initially came up with
- 40:55Speaker 1: this thing. I don't know if I will, but anyway,
- 40:57Speaker 1: I guess the promotion that they have is Okay.
- 41:00Speaker 5: Here it is the George Web Local Train in Milwaukee.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Our founder made the bold prediction of twelve games in
- 41:06Speaker 1: a row back in the nineteen forties. It's only been
- 41:09Speaker 1: realized three times in company history. And so that's the
- 41:12Speaker 1: thing that they run where they'll give out free burgers.
- 41:14Speaker 1: They said that in twenty eighteen when it happened, they
- 41:17Speaker 1: gave away ninety thousand free burgers plus one hundred thousand
- 41:21Speaker 1: redeemable vouchers. Wow. So whatever it is, I don't care
- 41:26Speaker 1: if Lord burgers.
- 41:28Speaker 5: Oh my god, we don't know.
- 41:29Speaker 6: People aren't just people aren't just going to Buddy Web.
- 41:33Speaker 6: What's it called, George Webb.
- 41:34Speaker 5: George Web. It's a funny name. I have a friend
- 41:38Speaker 5: named Buddy Web. That's why I kicked it.
- 41:39Speaker 1: It's like an accountant, but George Web.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Yeh. But everyone goes. They're not just gonna go and
- 41:43Speaker 5: get a burger.
- 41:44Speaker 6: They're gonna get a shake and some fries and something else,
- 41:47Speaker 6: maybe a piece of pie, and then someone else has
- 41:49Speaker 6: to get something. So it's a great It's like Mattress
- 41:52Speaker 6: Mac in Houston, Right, he gets all this attention, but
- 41:55Speaker 6: I mean he doesn't really lose money when he does
- 41:57Speaker 6: all that. I mean he hedges his bets and all that,
- 41:59Speaker 6: so I mean he's smart.
- 42:00Speaker 5: It's good marketing, good for the people in Milwaukee.
- 42:02Speaker 6: And you know what, go get your free burger people
- 42:05Speaker 6: in Milwaukee, because you deserve it.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Yeah, it was there at eighteen. I mean I was
- 42:11Speaker 3: there at eighteen. I just didn't remember it was called
- 42:13Speaker 3: George Webb, but I remember Counts was talking about it
- 42:16Speaker 3: and he was like, he's like, yeah, if we win,
- 42:20Speaker 3: because if we had beaten the Rockies the last game
- 42:23Speaker 3: of the third game in LDS, that would have been
- 42:27Speaker 3: our twelfth win or maybe it was the first game
- 42:30Speaker 3: of Dodgers whatever it was. That's when we got in
- 42:32Speaker 3: twelve in a row. Is at the end of the season.
- 42:34Speaker 3: There was so much chatter about it. It's funny that
- 42:37Speaker 3: I forget the name of the of the place, but
- 42:40Speaker 3: there was so much chatter about it, like the city.
- 42:44Speaker 3: The city was obviously on its head because of the
- 42:47Speaker 3: fact that, you know, we were moving on to the NLCS,
- 42:51Speaker 3: but the fact that they were getting burgers and all
- 42:53Speaker 3: the locations.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I just didn't remember that was the name of the place.
- 42:57Speaker 1: That's a tough name. I would call Webby's or something.
- 42:59Speaker 1: I mean, no offense, and maybe I'm going to get
- 43:01Speaker 1: smashed for that, but it sounds like, Oh, I'm going
- 43:02Speaker 1: to get my taxes done with George Webb.
- 43:04Speaker 5: But anyway, by the way, you guys swept the Rockies
- 43:08Speaker 5: that year.
- 43:08Speaker 6: Because I flew to Colorado and I had to stop
- 43:12Speaker 6: in Houston because we didn't have that game. So I
- 43:14Speaker 6: was on the plane and I was texting my producer
- 43:17Speaker 6: and I said, do I really have to go? Because
- 43:19Speaker 6: it was like four nothing to was earned slam range
- 43:21Speaker 6: in Colorado right when they closed the doors, and I
- 43:23Speaker 6: couldn't get off the plane. In Orlando anymore, someone hit
- 43:26Speaker 6: a grand slam and it was eight nothing, and I
- 43:28Speaker 6: was like, Oh, luckily I had to stop in Houston.
- 43:42Speaker 1: Let's slap and we'll play a trivia game. I like this.
- 43:45Speaker 1: The Padres starting lineup the last time that they were
- 43:48Speaker 1: in sole possession of first place in the NLS. This
- 43:52Speaker 1: late in the season. If you are, if you saw
- 43:54Speaker 1: it already, then I don't want you to play. But
- 43:57Speaker 1: if you haven't, I'll give you the date. September twenty five,
- 44:00Speaker 1: twenty ten against the Reds. So you guys were both
- 44:04Speaker 1: Big League in it. Maybe you remember, I mean.
- 44:07Speaker 3: That was that was That was one of the first
- 44:09Speaker 3: teams I played against. So yeah, I can you want
- 44:12Speaker 3: the starting lineup or you want pitchers?
- 44:14Speaker 1: No, I want starting lineup. I want the batters. I
- 44:18Speaker 1: want the position.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Because I was thinking Green team. Who Khalil Green on
- 44:23Speaker 3: the team? I don't think he was on that team.
- 44:26Speaker 3: They had like Will Vennable, they had Adrian Gonzalez, Chase
- 44:31Speaker 3: Headley was playing third.
- 44:34Speaker 2: Was Nick Huntley on that team?
- 44:36Speaker 1: Yep? Catching second base? David Eckstein, it's x Stein, x
- 44:45Speaker 1: Stein oops shortstop Miguel Tejada.
- 44:49Speaker 2: What I wouldn't have gotten one.
- 44:52Speaker 1: I would not have gotten that one. Either you said
- 44:54Speaker 1: Ludwick or no Scott?
- 44:55Speaker 2: Who was who was? Oh? Ryan Ludwig was playing left field?
- 44:59Speaker 2: Who was the Scot?
- 45:02Speaker 1: Nobody quit because it was the National League. I'm old
- 45:05Speaker 1: enough to know. I'm old enough to remember when the
- 45:07Speaker 1: National League didn't have a DH and that caused Shoeo
- 45:11Speaker 1: Tani to sign with the Angels and not the Dodgers.
- 45:13Speaker 3: True story that bullpen was ridiculous. Heath Bell, Trevor Hoffman,
- 45:20Speaker 3: Tim Staffer.
- 45:23Speaker 5: In Milwaukee.
- 45:24Speaker 2: Then, uh, yes, you're because I played both of them.
- 45:32Speaker 3: I played both of them my my first like two
- 45:35Speaker 3: of three series or something in the big leagues.
- 45:39Speaker 2: He was Milwaukee, Gregson was out there.
- 45:45Speaker 6: They had Stammond Craig was his name is Stanmon Craig Stamon,
- 45:49Speaker 6: the guy who didn't the guy who didn't build bend
- 45:51Speaker 6: his leg?
- 45:52Speaker 5: Remember him?
- 45:53Speaker 1: I thought it was yeah, Stammon and Stammon. I don't
- 45:57Speaker 1: know if they were on the same team. But there's
- 45:59Speaker 1: the lineup for you, the starting nine, Oscar Salazar in fields.
- 46:03Speaker 1: But otherwise you guys did a good job there, Krafts.
- 46:06Speaker 1: We got thirty seconds too. So let's get a card
- 46:08Speaker 1: guard quick on the way out, hard guard on Garland,
- 46:11Speaker 1: your boy.
- 46:13Speaker 2: This is one of my gifts.
- 46:15Speaker 3: The other one of my gifts that one of my
- 46:17Speaker 3: best friends in all of ft A J.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Prazinski got me. Wow, I'll start game. I really like it.
- 46:25Speaker 5: I do too, I like them.
- 46:27Speaker 3: I gotta be careful though. There's there's there's dots. You
- 46:30Speaker 3: can't see it. There's like the small holes in the back.
- 46:34Speaker 3: Now with this head, Now with this head, you gonna
- 46:36Speaker 3: put some Sundale Locean on.
- 46:37Speaker 2: But that's okay. It's a nice hat. It's so light.
- 46:40Speaker 2: I love it.
- 46:41Speaker 3: I hope I get one from every team. Players and
- 46:46Speaker 3: weekend hats coming up maybe differently.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm good. I didn't know, did we? Oh now
- 46:53Speaker 1: we're intern Okay, cool?
- 46:54Speaker 5: Are they different the new air? Do players weekend?
- 47:01Speaker 2: Oh they're allowed to be to me, just allow them
- 47:05Speaker 2: to players?
- 47:07Speaker 1: Weekend is this weekend or next weekend?
- 47:11Speaker 5: So they just have their numbers on the side. I guess.
- 47:16Speaker 2: It started.
- 47:17Speaker 5: No, they're but they they're selling them already.
- 47:20Speaker 6: So like New York has a ninety nine Judge hat,
- 47:24Speaker 6: stuff like that in all different scripts.
- 47:27Speaker 2: Do they have Do they have a thirty eight hat?
- 47:31Speaker 5: I don't know. Judge is the first one that pops up.
- 47:33Speaker 2: And then so obviously.
