- 0:00Speaker 1: Four Finger Discount.
- 0:01Speaker 2: Ude, Welcome to a very special episode of four Finger Discount,
- 0:20Speaker 2: where this week we'll be running through our top ten,
- 0:23Speaker 2: my five and my guest top five sporting episodes of
- 0:25Speaker 2: The Simpsons. I'm Dan, I joined right now. Bye Goxy,
- 0:28Speaker 2: Hey sir.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Hey mate. Thanks for having me on again. I say
- 0:31Speaker 1: again because I've been on before.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Yeah, mister Plower, we talked about, didn't we.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I must have done an all right job to
- 0:37Speaker 1: be asked back.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Well, yeah, well you were just in town. I thought, Hey,
- 0:40Speaker 2: I didn't realize you'll come back to Geelong. I was like, well,
- 0:42Speaker 2: you're in Geelong, why not stop by?
- 0:43Speaker 1: Yeah? I love it here. It's awesome.
- 0:45Speaker 2: You're one of the only guests that's actually stopped by
- 0:46Speaker 2: the studio. It's just so easy to do podcasts via
- 0:49Speaker 2: we call we use riversides like zoom basically now. Yeah,
- 0:52Speaker 2: but I'm beginning in the studio. It's awesome.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, the technology of these days is great,
- 0:56Speaker 1: but you can't be in person.
- 0:58Speaker 2: No, I love I just sort of realized this chart.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Yes it it's the episode you're doing sporting episodes.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I'm very lucky in that I get a lot of
- 1:06Speaker 1: things given to me, and you know.
- 1:09Speaker 2: It's better than getting chicked like tea shirts given to
- 1:11Speaker 2: you though money.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yes, well I haven't reached that. I'm still in the
- 1:16Speaker 1: just receiving merchant beer and stuff. But I shouldn't complain.
- 1:20Speaker 1: But no, no, I got a lot of stuff. The
- 1:23Speaker 1: beauty of it is it forces you to have that thing,
- 1:26Speaker 1: whereas you know if you had to go and get
- 1:29Speaker 1: it or buy you.
- 1:32Speaker 2: What you try and do is you try and talk
- 1:34Speaker 2: about things that you enjoy and that you want to
- 1:36Speaker 2: buy and go, Hey, I mentioned you on my show
- 1:37Speaker 2: or on my set, give me a free jumper.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm doing that with Red Rooster all the time. All
- 1:43Speaker 1: that I think they're.
- 1:45Speaker 2: You've got to many series. You've got the stands at
- 1:47Speaker 2: the footy fields or whatever it is.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Yes, that's right.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Currently you're eating foods from different countries.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Is a little bit of the joke is that they're
- 1:56Speaker 1: to have them all concurrently running. But the funny thing
- 1:59Speaker 1: about the grands same one. I never planned for it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: I was just generally just driving by and it caught
- 2:05Speaker 1: my attention, this tiny little grandstand. But as as we know,
- 2:09Speaker 1: on the internet, there is a bit of you know,
- 2:10Speaker 1: there's always people trolling, trying to bring you down a bit,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and I received a few people claimed it was like
- 2:16Speaker 1: an athletics where the starting gun person is Yeah, well
- 2:23Speaker 1: I don't think it was. But also I'm like, let
- 2:25Speaker 1: me have this.
- 2:26Speaker 2: How do you handle trolls. I've learned to just ignore
- 2:29Speaker 2: the comments.
- 2:30Speaker 1: I have gotten better. It did used to hit me
- 2:33Speaker 1: pretty hard back in the day because because they put
- 2:36Speaker 1: you to realize they just loser. Yeah, any trolls listening,
- 2:41Speaker 1: but yeah, that's because some of them too are quite
- 2:46Speaker 1: like thought out have they want to hit you hard
- 2:48Speaker 1: because like there's you know, they could just be oh,
- 2:50Speaker 1: you're ship that sucks, but they actually go kind of
- 2:54Speaker 1: like I'd get ones that like try to tell you
- 2:57Speaker 1: I liked you previously, but I don't like it. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: oh you used to the direction And then that makes
- 3:02Speaker 1: you think, oh shit, I've lost a fan. But you
- 3:05Speaker 1: realize they were never going to be on board, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 1: or if they don't like you having a slightly different opinion.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you feel like you have to evolve in
- 3:13Speaker 2: your comedian though, or is it best to sort of
- 3:15Speaker 2: find your niche and then to sort of stick out.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Well, that's something I get given a lot of grief
- 3:19Speaker 1: about when people are like, oh, the same old joke,
- 3:21Speaker 1: and I'm like.
- 3:22Speaker 2: That's my thing.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Well, some of the most successful queens in history are.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Like Seinfeld, mister Bean.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, mister Bean's just like yeah, yeah, so I
- 3:32Speaker 1: love how my reference. I need update my reference. I'm
- 3:34Speaker 1: still like mister Bean most successful.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Isn't it funny how old we feel now? Because I'm
- 3:39Speaker 2: thirty seven, held are you forty one? Forty one? It's
- 3:41Speaker 2: pretty similar in age, but we say things like mister Bean.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Anyone under the age of like twenty five is like,
- 3:46Speaker 2: what are you talking about?
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yes, that's right, Well I remember, like because you had
- 3:51Speaker 1: the original just as it was, and then they were
- 3:53Speaker 1: like animated ones and they tried to really keep it going.
- 3:57Speaker 2: They hit the movie as well. Yeah yeah, Mike, iup
- 3:59Speaker 2: put Like my kids are seven and nearly six, so
- 4:02Speaker 2: nearly eight and nearly six, but they love this to
- 4:04Speaker 2: be Yes. Yeah, sometimes it's important to put the old classic.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'll put the Simpsons on. I just started letting them
- 4:09Speaker 2: watch the Simpsons because I was gonna let them watch
- 4:11Speaker 2: the Simpsons a couple of years ago. I put it
- 4:12Speaker 2: on and it was itching scratched, cartoon came on and
- 4:14Speaker 2: I was like, this is pretty violent. Maybe I should
- 4:17Speaker 2: not have my five year old watching it, But now
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'm letting them watch it, and they love the old
- 4:20Speaker 2: school Simpsons.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Yes, and it is funny because because we know it
- 4:24Speaker 1: as how we know it, like all the things that
- 4:26Speaker 1: came with a channel ten six pm. You have to
- 4:30Speaker 1: watch the Simpsons, like going the phases, like radical bar
- 4:33Speaker 1: and that. But it is interesting to see how the
- 4:36Speaker 1: younger gen look at it because they're looking at it
- 4:38Speaker 1: now knowing that everything that came afterwards as well, the
- 4:42Speaker 1: south Park Family going.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Well, there is no south Park Family go without the Simpsons.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yes, that's right, but they don't know it as that
- 4:50Speaker 1: we do.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just see, the Simpsons was new when we
- 4:53Speaker 2: were growing up. It's just always been around for my kids.
- 4:56Speaker 2: But the thing is I put the new Simpsons on
- 4:57Speaker 2: and they enjoy the new Simpsons, and that was how
- 4:59Speaker 2: I really that new Simpsons isn't necessarily bad. It's just different,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and Simpsons is made for a younger viewer essentially, and
- 5:08Speaker 2: my kids enjoy the news. I think it's looks crisper.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I think it looks better. But when I put the
- 5:13Speaker 2: old ones, and they still like the old ones. But
- 5:15Speaker 2: then I realized me putting an old school Simpsons episode
- 5:17Speaker 2: on is the equivalent of my mum putting on like
- 5:19Speaker 2: an old Flintstones episode. Yeah, thirty five years old.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Mate, And you know what's the beauty of our age
- 5:25Speaker 1: is we consumed We can always consume it twice the
- 5:29Speaker 1: original where we're just like this, this show is great,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and then a bit older when you as you dissect
- 5:35Speaker 1: it as we do, you know, like knowing what makes
- 5:37Speaker 1: good comedy writing and all that.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I think there's three ways, actually Simpsons, because he
- 5:42Speaker 2: watches the kid, you enjoy it, and then you get
- 5:44Speaker 2: older and you start understanding more of the jokes. For me,
- 5:46Speaker 2: particularly since I've been a parent, all the parenting gags
- 5:50Speaker 2: and the married gags that have been married and becoming
- 5:52Speaker 2: a parent, I've watched the show through a hony lens
- 5:54Speaker 2: as well, Like that's when things like they do it
- 5:56Speaker 2: for her moment that just kills me. Now, it's like
- 5:59Speaker 2: it's one of the sweetest moments in history of television.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And when you're a kid, you go, oh, this is nice,
- 6:03Speaker 2: But when you're apparently you're like, oh my god, that's right.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Pick picking up on the smaller soleties.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:09Speaker 1: You know, when you're a kid, you're just like it's
- 6:11Speaker 1: almost like like your palette for your eating. When you're
- 6:14Speaker 1: a kid, you want like chips and pizza. And then
- 6:17Speaker 1: you're like mature and you realize there's more sources than
- 6:21Speaker 1: just tomato and barbecue. You know, you're a kid, you're like,
- 6:24Speaker 1: get out of the way, Lisa home, a home, a barber.
- 6:27Speaker 1: And then you go a bit older like yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, Margal just you love margin the older you get
- 6:34Speaker 2: r Yeah. Now we're here to talk about sporting episodes
- 6:37Speaker 2: of The Simpsons. Before we do that, though, a sporting
- 6:39Speaker 2: moment I want to discuss with you, which you've albaby
- 6:41Speaker 2: probably discussed a million times Steve Smith.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Oh, yes, between when I was here last, wasn't.
- 6:48Speaker 2: It And I remember seeing it was like Lena and
- 6:50Speaker 2: Acaprio pointing at the team like it's doxy.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Because some people ask, you know, some people sort of
- 6:57Speaker 1: summarize what I've done and say, oh, You've got all
- 6:59Speaker 1: the like viral moments, and because I'm living it, there
- 7:03Speaker 1: is like big gaps in between. There's four or five years.
- 7:06Speaker 1: But to some people it's like seems.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Like they're catching up.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, which for anyone, I guess you know, if
- 7:11Speaker 1: you're looking at a band or actor or like, oh,
- 7:14Speaker 1: you're just pumping out of it. But when you're living
- 7:16Speaker 1: it doesn't feel like that. But I do get asked
- 7:19Speaker 1: a lot about that. The major the majority of questions
- 7:22Speaker 1: is sort of like was it planned? Stage that was honestly, say, yeah, there.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Was, you look at you had no idea what was
- 7:28Speaker 2: going on?
- 7:29Speaker 1: Is there is no way you call it as well
- 7:31Speaker 1: like well maybe if you had a mate at the channel,
- 7:34Speaker 1: because it was for you, I don't know mate's there,
- 7:37Speaker 1: And even then, what would you say, mate? Can you
- 7:40Speaker 1: put me on?
- 7:41Speaker 2: Like and we're going to we're going to interrupt the
- 7:43Speaker 2: actions for GOOXI? Yeah, what was it? He just work around.
- 7:48Speaker 1: There's this thing I do because I love going to sports.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I got a lot of different sports, and majority of
- 7:54Speaker 1: them aren't like super popular events.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Like low key.
- 7:58Speaker 1: I'll go to like whatever, so you could often just
- 8:01Speaker 1: what I'll do is move around the stadium. I'll probably
- 8:03Speaker 1: get in trouble for it's not it's very funny. It's
- 8:07Speaker 1: funny your your card fore fingers talking about our low
- 8:11Speaker 1: level crimes. But it's a very low level crime. But
- 8:14Speaker 1: you know, sometimes you get what do they call the
- 8:16Speaker 1: people who check tickets, I guess ticket ticket.
- 8:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so every.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Now and then, like if someone's they're doing their job
- 8:22Speaker 1: to the letter of the law or whatever, they'll be like,
- 8:25Speaker 1: oh where do you sit? Check and tell you? But
- 8:27Speaker 1: but I just I like to get different views of
- 8:30Speaker 1: the stadium, you know whatever, So I'll do that often.
- 8:33Speaker 1: But obviously ashes was very popular.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Is that what happened? You've changed?
- 8:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was. I was moving around and the
- 8:39Speaker 1: gabble was almost full, like but always always these things
- 8:42Speaker 1: when they say sell out, there's always like a few
- 8:44Speaker 1: people don't cars. So there was a few empty. But
- 8:47Speaker 1: I was going to different spots around the stadium, and
- 8:52Speaker 1: you know, it goes all day, eight hours. I was
- 8:53Speaker 1: getting different views, so I literally had just gotten there, right.
- 8:57Speaker 1: And the other thing is to like, I know, it's
- 9:01Speaker 1: that classic thing where people are like drinking all day
- 9:04Speaker 1: the quick and like I'm actually not, despite what I
- 9:07Speaker 1: look like or whatever, I'm not a huge drinker. I
- 9:09Speaker 1: like a beer here in but someone had just so
- 9:12Speaker 1: I just arrived that era area and someone had just
- 9:16Speaker 1: said to me, like, can I buy your beer? Which
- 9:18Speaker 1: I get a little bit.
- 9:19Speaker 2: You know.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Again, I'm humble bray, Like I said, I get given shirts, beer,
- 9:25Speaker 1: everything except money.
- 9:26Speaker 2: We can get.
- 9:27Speaker 1: So someone had just said to me, can I get
- 9:29Speaker 1: your beer? And I was like, yeah, yeah, you know
- 9:30Speaker 1: that's lovely, thank you. So yeah, I just arrived that spot,
- 9:34Speaker 1: just get given a beer because people were kind of like, oh,
- 9:37Speaker 1: I bet this guy has been on it all day.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So that's the two things I can reveal. I was
- 9:41Speaker 1: not sitting there and I was not drinking all day.
- 9:45Speaker 1: But you know there is an element of and the
- 9:49Speaker 1: other thing to it as well, because Steve Smith got distracted.
- 9:53Speaker 1: But I was coppying a bit of grief because people
- 9:55Speaker 1: were like, why are you moving around? But the truth
- 9:58Speaker 1: is that it's like one hundred and aged he's straight
- 10:00Speaker 1: in front. You can't actually sit there. They have the
- 10:03Speaker 1: seats taken out on the side screen. So I wasn't
- 10:06Speaker 1: Actually I shouldn't have been. In his view, he has
- 10:09Speaker 1: like the average person has, like what do you call that?
- 10:12Speaker 2: Like television?
- 10:12Speaker 1: Yes, peripheral vision is very like his is, like yeah,
- 10:15Speaker 1: and he's been known to be distracted by like a
- 10:17Speaker 1: spider or an ant or something.
- 10:19Speaker 2: So you have you spoken to it at all. No, No,
- 10:21Speaker 2: he'd be on like the Cricket Australia some of the
- 10:26Speaker 2: cricket hats.
- 10:27Speaker 1: Yeah, he's very private. I've been asked that a bit.
- 10:29Speaker 1: They're like, oh, have you caught up with him? And like, nah,
- 10:31Speaker 1: but I don't know how i'd go about it because
- 10:34Speaker 1: like it's like, at least nothing bad came of it,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you know, it's not like he got out or anything.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And the other thing was there was imagine.
- 10:43Speaker 1: But everyone just took it because the channel and the
- 10:46Speaker 1: commentator said that's the guy. Like me, I'm the guy
- 10:48Speaker 1: that distracted him, which like I was like ninety percent short.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But I've had people with theories are like, oh it
- 10:53Speaker 1: was one of the English players Josh for Archer was No,
- 10:57Speaker 1: no one really knows.
- 10:57Speaker 2: So you can get told at the time to move
- 10:59Speaker 2: or no know.
- 11:00Speaker 1: So because like I said, it wasn't actually directly in front, Okay,
- 11:05Speaker 1: So I was getting grief from people saying like etiquette,
- 11:08Speaker 1: I shouldn't have been moving around, but everyone does.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Like maybe you're just you stood out the most of it.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Let's just pick this.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, well that's the thing. After it. I was
- 11:15Speaker 1: getting like from trolls Pip making fun of my shirt
- 11:18Speaker 1: being too tight. Yeah. Well it was actually again in
- 11:25Speaker 1: this hole getting given things. But the cricket player Matt Short,
- 11:28Speaker 1: he played for Australia, he gave me a jersey.
- 11:31Speaker 2: That's yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 1: So I was like a little bit of like beggars
- 11:35Speaker 1: can't be too not that I was begging, but I
- 11:37Speaker 1: didn't want to be get given it. And hey, yeah
- 11:40Speaker 1: you got a triplex, So that was an element to that.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And then in terms of the dirtiness, so that's because
- 11:47Speaker 1: I do laboring work, so yeah, yeah, yeah, and then
- 11:51Speaker 1: there's I mean I blame the dirt probably a bit
- 11:54Speaker 1: of gravy some people, Yeah, exactly, there's a little bit
- 11:57Speaker 1: mixed in there.
- 11:58Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 11:59Speaker 1: So it was a very interesting experience and I got
- 12:01Speaker 1: the full sort of people talk about fifteen minutes of.
- 12:05Speaker 2: The social media boom. Yeah, follows the.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Next day I was doing like breakfast TV. Yeah, like
- 12:12Speaker 1: Today's Sunrise and all that, but very fleeting. It was
- 12:14Speaker 1: like yeah, because I'm like, how long is this going
- 12:16Speaker 1: to keep going? I found out it's it's literally fifteen minutes. Yeah,
- 12:20Speaker 1: I think on the Monday, I had like Geelong Radio
- 12:22Speaker 1: and that's that's pretty high yeah, I used to be
- 12:29Speaker 1: on Yeah yeah, yeah, no, well no, it sounds like
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm being psarcastic, but you know I love all of it.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Yeah that's awesome. Yeah, yeah, I had this theory right
- 12:38Speaker 2: with talking about cricket, you reckon, there's time the Simpsons
- 12:40Speaker 2: do a cricket episode. They've never done one. Yeah. I
- 12:44Speaker 2: think they're going to come back to Australia, yeah during something,
- 12:48Speaker 2: or do an episode in India, Like India is the
- 12:50Speaker 2: big cricket nation. You can get all the Indian cricketers on.
- 12:53Speaker 2: But I feel like, you know, getting Steve Smith, Pat
- 12:55Speaker 2: Comings all these guys on the episode would be awesome.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, because like apparently there's it's one of those things
- 13:02Speaker 1: that's it's a fact that it's hard to believe, but
- 13:04Speaker 1: apparently there was a really early game in America' cricket
- 13:08Speaker 1: but then baseball took off. So yeah, really it's like
- 13:11Speaker 1: America's very has a very unique like sports culture and
- 13:14Speaker 1: that yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Are going to be a good chance to bring it
- 13:16Speaker 2: pooh back there we go.
- 13:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but let's do our top five Simpson's sporting It
- 13:22Speaker 2: doesn't have to be the whole episode. It's just a
- 13:23Speaker 2: Simpsons story of some kind sporting story.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, A couple of mine that I've picked are like
- 13:29Speaker 2: not the main story, but they are with it.
- 13:31Speaker 1: That's right. I was thinking about that because there's the
- 13:33Speaker 1: ones that stick out very clearly, and then that there
- 13:36Speaker 1: is as they do.
- 13:37Speaker 2: They say, like the plot b plots a bigger than
- 13:40Speaker 2: the apes. Yeah, yeah, I'll give you one number five.
- 13:43Speaker 2: So one number five is the Homer they four, which
- 13:44Speaker 2: is the boxing episode I'm wearing right now.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Could I just I should have asked you this before,
- 13:50Speaker 1: but so we can't double up, or if we double up,
- 13:53Speaker 1: it doesn't matter.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yeah, ye, but if you try to do all ye
- 13:56Speaker 2: yea yeah, but if you've got that, just say I've
- 13:57Speaker 2: got that at my.
- 13:58Speaker 1: After that's an awesome So yeah, stupidly forgot about.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good Homer Remo story. We had a
- 14:05Speaker 2: side of Mo we've seen usual Mo where he's going
- 14:07Speaker 2: to sell out Homer for money, but at the end
- 14:09Speaker 2: he obviously turns a corner and shows some compassion, becomes
- 14:11Speaker 2: the fly man, the fan man.
- 14:12Speaker 1: Yeah that's right.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's a great parody of Mike Tyson and
- 14:16Speaker 2: Don King as well. Yeah, it's a shame they couldn't
- 14:18Speaker 2: get Mike Tyson to do it. But I don't think
- 14:19Speaker 2: Mike Tyson's that a point in his life where he's
- 14:21Speaker 2: willing to take this out of himself. Yeah, he's become
- 14:23Speaker 2: like comedy Mike Tyson.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Well, Drederick Tradum is meant to be.
- 14:27Speaker 2: The great parody of Mike Tyson, did it?
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Yeah, and you get certain topics. I
- 14:33Speaker 1: know they used to talk about this in the commentaries
- 14:36Speaker 1: on the DVD, where it's just a mind field for them.
- 14:39Speaker 1: You know. I remember some of the writers talking about
- 14:42Speaker 1: whenever they have mister Burns old timey.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah words, they just go to Bill and Josh Love Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And so I'm thinking Boxing had all this, like, you know,
- 14:51Speaker 1: they could have junk Yard, the yard guy who I
- 14:55Speaker 1: love that, like, oh he's a hungry fighter.
- 14:56Speaker 2: He's actually fighting for his hobos and stuff. Yeah, there's
- 15:00Speaker 2: then fell in the corner before he keeps fighting. Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 1: And then they played off of the whole John King stuff,
- 15:06Speaker 1: the dodginess of boxing. I love the like I was like, yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 1: you can't use that anymore, like, yeah, that was so good.
- 15:15Speaker 1: And so it was just a minefield of jokes and
- 15:19Speaker 1: getting stuff and then obviously, you know we talk about
- 15:23Speaker 1: there's nothing wrong with comedy having a staple to make
- 15:27Speaker 1: fun of, and then like Homer's like lack of fitness
- 15:31Speaker 1: and overweight and stupidity all rolled in there.
- 15:34Speaker 2: But he can take a punch.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And you know there's like sometimes you talk
- 15:38Speaker 1: about with the stupid like how far is too far?
- 15:43Speaker 1: The same thing with the athletic and nepness, like you know,
- 15:47Speaker 1: punching and it didn't kill a fly. You know, it's
- 15:50Speaker 1: like how fun can you go? Yeah?
- 15:52Speaker 2: But I just think I love. One of my favorite
- 15:54Speaker 2: moments ever is him coming out to wipe out We
- 15:57Speaker 2: be Friends.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Actually did a boxing five myself.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's actually a bit of a spot on
- 16:04Speaker 2: parody now. I don't know if it was meant to
- 16:06Speaker 2: be at the time, but celebrity boxing it's become a
- 16:08Speaker 2: thing now, Yeah, we're boxing as a sport has almost
- 16:10Speaker 2: became a parody of itself, where that's what this was.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, so I had people asking me. I think
- 16:16Speaker 1: I put it out and said what song show is
- 16:18Speaker 1: and a lot of people did suggest to why I
- 16:21Speaker 1: can't be friends, which is a very funny thing. But
- 16:24Speaker 1: I was trying not to like comedy on comedy comedy
- 16:27Speaker 1: like you know yeah yeah, which, what did you come
- 16:30Speaker 1: out to smash mouth walking on the sun? I was
- 16:35Speaker 1: I was like, do something like like thought out funny
- 16:38Speaker 1: Now I'll just go like nineties reference like most of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the time.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Yeah, but what so that was a legit fight? How
- 16:45Speaker 2: does that work.
- 16:47Speaker 1: In terms of we were trying to beat each other up?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yes, so do you go in beforehand? They do you
- 16:51Speaker 2: sort of say let's not knock each other out?
- 16:53Speaker 1: Or no? No, there was no There was actually no contact.
- 16:57Speaker 1: It's funny because I've spoken to the guy in the afterwards,
- 17:01Speaker 1: but there was no but leading in, so there was
- 17:04Speaker 1: no discussion. I think why. I think we had one message,
- 17:08Speaker 1: like text message, but there was no talking around but
- 17:10Speaker 1: leading into it, talking about trolls and stuff online when
- 17:13Speaker 1: I was posting things in the months leading in, and
- 17:16Speaker 1: his fans are coming on in the comics section They're
- 17:19Speaker 1: going to die, and like, yeah, I know it's part
- 17:22Speaker 1: of boxing smack talk, but I didn't know how serious
- 17:25Speaker 1: to take it. I'm like, is this guy really good?
- 17:27Speaker 2: Is he going to for me? It's going to make
- 17:30Speaker 2: offens my that's right.
- 17:32Speaker 1: And then after because I actually like one quite comfortably.
- 17:35Speaker 1: I was like in hindsight going back and like, oh
- 17:38Speaker 1: that was either they legitimately believed it and they're just
- 17:42Speaker 1: like in denial or it was like a like insecurity
- 17:46Speaker 1: like yeah enough, but you.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Know sorry at all.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it was yeah, yeah, I'm not no sorry, not
- 17:53Speaker 1: like yeah yeah, not a complete can cast. I would
- 17:58Speaker 1: have felt too bad, but it was it was very
- 18:01Speaker 1: like I'm trying to think of the word like yeah,
- 18:04Speaker 1: but also the like people there, there's a lot of
- 18:07Speaker 1: anger and like not nothing too bad, but someone was
- 18:10Speaker 1: giving me grief for wearing the head gear, and I'm
- 18:13Speaker 1: thinking it's twenty twenty five. You don't want to be
- 18:16Speaker 1: that stuff's in the pain in the past, right, Like
- 18:19Speaker 1: we know enough, you know, like ten twenty years ago. Yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: we used to be like being man, yeah that's all.
- 18:25Speaker 1: It's like, oh man, we know enough about this now. Anyway,
- 18:29Speaker 1: it was I haven't I'm not holding a grudge. Yeah,
- 18:32Speaker 1: I still remembering the comment, but it was very fine.
- 18:35Speaker 1: It was it was Gold Coast Conventions. There's like five
- 18:37Speaker 1: thousand people. It was a big event because it's it's
- 18:40Speaker 1: all podcasters, Like yeah, I mean, little do they know
- 18:44Speaker 1: I stopped doing my podcast ages ago, but I was
- 18:47Speaker 1: still like, yeah, it was meant to be pod. So
- 18:50Speaker 1: maybe you can go out, you know, but can you
- 18:52Speaker 1: like fight a family guy?
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, what's your what's your Arrival cartoon? Yeah? Good, what's
- 19:00Speaker 2: your what's your Simces? Episode number five?
- 19:03Speaker 1: So talking about how like the b plot thing, I
- 19:07Speaker 1: do have a few where it's clear that it's a
- 19:10Speaker 1: sports episode. I won't I won't give them away, but
- 19:13Speaker 1: yeah I did have somewhere it was a little less.
- 19:17Speaker 1: So are we doing is there in order.
- 19:19Speaker 2: To like I've done five through one, but you but
- 19:20Speaker 2: it's not like best to worse. I've done. This is
- 19:24Speaker 2: my top five, but you do it an order you want.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Well, we'll start off with Lisa on ice that's my
- 19:29Speaker 1: number one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, maybe we should have met
- 19:32Speaker 1: up in discussion, you know, talking before about the emotion.
- 19:37Speaker 1: There's a lot of emotion, and at the.
- 19:38Speaker 2: End of the episode is one of my favorite moments. Yeah,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I think it's impossible not to cry or at least
- 19:43Speaker 2: tear up when they have that flashback of him sharing
- 19:46Speaker 2: the ice green. Yeah, because of someone who I've got
- 19:48Speaker 2: a younger sister. You watch it and you're just like, oh,
- 19:51Speaker 2: you fight a lot, but you know in the day,
- 19:52Speaker 2: you're still your little sister, you know.
- 19:54Speaker 1: And I feel like, oh, man, like I don't want
- 19:56Speaker 1: to go to into like the new ones, don't get
- 20:00Speaker 1: what the characters about. But it was just a perfect and
- 20:02Speaker 1: Homer's nastiness was at a perfect.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Level, like competitiveness.
- 20:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but you know, like the fight fight for the
- 20:07Speaker 1: lights on and eye and that like such good animation
- 20:12Speaker 1: to you know, directing that.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Comes just afterwards, just before that, I'm going to do
- 20:16Speaker 2: this and if you get my way, it's your Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 1: That's so good. Lisa is awesome in this right, and
- 20:23Speaker 1: I think it's a really good exploration of like she's
- 20:26Speaker 1: getting into it because she's trying to be perfect with
- 20:28Speaker 1: her grades. Yeah, and then that it's it's really good
- 20:30Speaker 1: because it's like it shows whatever she puts her mind to. Yeah,
- 20:33Speaker 1: it's just that she didn't happen to have got into
- 20:36Speaker 1: sports before that.
- 20:38Speaker 2: It's also something she's getting better than Bart that's not
- 20:41Speaker 2: just academics.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And you know I was talking about some
- 20:45Speaker 1: situations allow for particular characters to shine. I Reckon Wigham
- 20:50Speaker 1: is so good.
- 20:51Speaker 2: As the.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And and the opposition codes, I bet on the other guys.
- 20:57Speaker 1: It's just such a good look into just that whole
- 21:00Speaker 1: amateur kids, sports and.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Parents taken too seriously. Yeah, because I've got my son's
- 21:05Speaker 2: just started playing football. Yeah, and you see some parents
- 21:08Speaker 2: he's like, don't take it this seriously. Yes, why did
- 21:11Speaker 2: you kick it there for? Because he's seven?
- 21:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah yeah, And you know in the back of
- 21:16Speaker 1: the head like if this guy gets good, we can like.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Ride him success.
- 21:19Speaker 1: And it's like, but also all those ones who started
- 21:21Speaker 1: twelve are gonna be like burns out and ninty oh man.
- 21:24Speaker 1: But oh, there's so many great guys. You know. What's
- 21:28Speaker 1: funny too, is like there's kind of you know, I
- 21:32Speaker 1: don't know what to call them, but in sports, I'm
- 21:35Speaker 1: sure most of us have this. But it's like that
- 21:38Speaker 1: thing where you're like, what if someone was to kick
- 21:40Speaker 1: a goal off of the kickoff in rugby or soccer,
- 21:43Speaker 1: and and the perfect one of that is the like
- 21:46Speaker 1: Millhouse strugging up the whole goals. You call that blowing,
- 21:51Speaker 1: But I've always thought, not not exactly that, but like
- 21:54Speaker 1: imagine if ice hockey or soccer or whatever just got
- 21:57Speaker 1: like a huge fat guy to just fill up the goals.
- 22:00Speaker 1: He's not a fat guy, but it's a version of that, right,
- 22:03Speaker 1: like just literally fill up the oh so good and
- 22:07Speaker 1: yeah I think too hockey, you know, like obviously like
- 22:11Speaker 1: Marty Ducks, but there isn't a lot of hockey.
- 22:15Speaker 2: It's never really taken off here. But the Mighty Ducks
- 22:17Speaker 2: films were some of my favorites. Yeah, I just love
- 22:19Speaker 2: but Mike kids watched My Ducks free last night. They
- 22:21Speaker 2: loved them. Yeah.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's got that element of it I think,
- 22:25Speaker 1: like lovely emotional with Lisa, but awesome jokes.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 1: The other one I just about home as nasness is
- 22:31Speaker 1: the the front who rides in the front seat whole Yes, yeah,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and that was a funny like talking about Lisa.
- 22:39Speaker 2: If you lose, I'll kill you. Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Oh that was such a good like that look of home.
- 22:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I think we also get here Utah that kids,
- 22:48Speaker 2: that kid's got bosoms of chocolate. Yeah, who's got a
- 22:52Speaker 2: wet owt?
- 22:52Speaker 1: I hate to I'm not really like complain about you
- 22:56Speaker 1: can't do anything anymore, but I reckon I couldn't.
- 22:59Speaker 2: You can't do that is not in TV.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Upset overweight, the Germans kids, Body, what is it?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Body?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Yeah, body shame.
- 23:09Speaker 2: I thought another one out to you one number four.
- 23:12Speaker 2: This isn't really you don't really see much of the sport,
- 23:14Speaker 2: but there's a sport based episode. It's Lisa the Greek,
- 23:17Speaker 2: which is where Lisa helps him to gamble. Yeah. Yeah,
- 23:20Speaker 2: now I'm someone who called me a spoil sport, but
- 23:23Speaker 2: I think gambling has become too normalized and supporting a
- 23:27Speaker 2: show to the pointere like my son will get the footing,
- 23:29Speaker 2: you'll go what sports bet? My kids shouldn't be asking
- 23:33Speaker 2: what's what's his gambling company? I keep seeing all about it.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Well, that that is the hugest is the age thing
- 23:37Speaker 1: because a lot of people are like, you know, adults
- 23:40Speaker 1: should be able to like I don't want to get
- 23:42Speaker 1: too far, but yeah, that's.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Just everywhere you can't can't get away from it.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And one of the things with Australia and America, like
- 23:50Speaker 1: we do have our differences, and I know over there
- 23:53Speaker 1: it's like, especially back then, they do the whole like
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's very sneaky. Yeah, isn't it like he's not meant
- 24:00Speaker 1: to be doing it with mo And yeah it's not
- 24:01Speaker 1: like here where you see the tab shops.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Yeah, well every single segment on a sports show now
- 24:06Speaker 2: is sponsored by a sporting by gambling company.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess because like I sort of I like
- 24:11Speaker 1: the NFL, American football and that, and it's funny to
- 24:14Speaker 1: see the the guys given the tips and it's like
- 24:17Speaker 1: Cincinnati and stuff was really funny.
- 24:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but this one here. So Homer and Lisa aren't
- 24:22Speaker 2: bonding very well. He finally finds something can bond over,
- 24:25Speaker 2: which is watching football. But it's not just watching football.
- 24:27Speaker 2: It's the fact that she is really good at working
- 24:29Speaker 2: out using shot moneyballs, like using mathematics to work out
- 24:32Speaker 2: who's gonna win. Helps home a gamble and he starts
- 24:35Speaker 2: making lots of money. Then he calls Sunday's Daddy Daughter
- 24:37Speaker 2: to Day and then she says, let's go do hiking
- 24:40Speaker 2: next week. He's like, no, the Super bowls this week
- 24:41Speaker 2: and footballs finished now, Daddy door to Day doesn't start
- 24:44Speaker 2: till next year. She realizes he only want to spend
- 24:46Speaker 2: time with me because of the football, and we get
- 24:48Speaker 2: the whole If Washington win, I love you, If Balo.
- 24:51Speaker 2: It reminds me at Mo's they're watching one guy's like
- 24:53Speaker 2: Homer's watching it sad and he goes to Homer, what
- 24:55Speaker 2: you got writing on this game? My daughter? What a gambler? Yeah?
- 25:00Speaker 1: And I love how like because you know how an
- 25:02Speaker 1: actual sports fan and guys can just be they're gonna win,
- 25:06Speaker 1: they got the best player, and it is very simple
- 25:08Speaker 1: like that. Belisa is very like I can see fear in.
- 25:10Speaker 2: His breaks it down.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, And and it does ask that question, doesn't
- 25:14Speaker 1: it It doesn't kind of And and the thing about
- 25:17Speaker 1: classic Simpsons the best when it was best, it did well.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Sometimes I was gonna say, it didn't always hit you
- 25:22Speaker 1: over the head with like it's sometimes like you know
- 25:25Speaker 1: the what's the John Waters you know that's hemosphobia. Yeah,
- 25:29Speaker 1: that's very like that. Yeah, that's that's hit you over
- 25:32Speaker 1: there because it's like, look, it's the way Homer is
- 25:35Speaker 1: acting is stupid. Yeah, and even like the immigration, but
- 25:38Speaker 1: I like the way they.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Don't immigrants the immigrants.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Yes, well that's that's like there's so much I know
- 25:45Speaker 1: it's cheesy to be like, oh Simpson predicted or still
- 25:47Speaker 1: relevant to these this day, but that's one that's very
- 25:51Speaker 1: but yes, but that does it. I like it kind
- 25:55Speaker 1: of puts it out there. It doesn't is it like
- 25:58Speaker 1: is this wrong? What home is doing, I think, or
- 26:00Speaker 1: the gambling that he's only spending time.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah, he wants to be with Lisa, but he just
- 26:05Speaker 2: doesn't realize that the only reason he's doing is because
- 26:07Speaker 2: he's benefited financially.
- 26:08Speaker 1: But what I'm saying that puts that out there is like,
- 26:11Speaker 1: if if you are doing something wanting to be with someone,
- 26:15Speaker 1: you probably shouldn't be just trying to get something again
- 26:17Speaker 1: out Yeah.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Yeah. And then by the end of it, he does
- 26:20Speaker 2: cancel his bowling plans with Barney. He takes a hiking
- 26:23Speaker 2: up the hill.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:24Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's a sporting episode, which isn't really don't
- 26:27Speaker 2: really watch him playing sport, but I thought gambling on
- 26:29Speaker 2: the sport.
- 26:30Speaker 1: No, that is That's a really good one.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Do you have any other form?
- 26:33Speaker 1: So this is another. Like I said, I'm an American
- 26:37Speaker 1: football fan. I do like it, and I do think
- 26:40Speaker 1: the show. I love anytime the show deals with us.
- 26:42Speaker 1: I was going to go bart starts.
- 26:44Speaker 2: That's one of my notable mentions. I like that one. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 2: and again becomes the coach of basketball.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Yes, And some of the funniest bits are Homer's coaching
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know cutting, Yeah, Okay, the rock and soccam thing.
- 26:57Speaker 2: You know, everyone give the ball to Bart.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're just like Nelson being so much better
- 27:02Speaker 1: and I'll have to do it myself. And and it
- 27:05Speaker 1: also you raised before the thing about like annoying parents,
- 27:10Speaker 1: so ray like Homers there giving ned grief Flanders. One
- 27:15Speaker 1: of the great crossovers, is it of the Hill? Yes?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yeah, so many thousand miles for this. Yeah, my son's
- 27:22Speaker 2: coach at the moment, his son plays an aliences team
- 27:25Speaker 2: and it's almost like the on the opposite now where
- 27:26Speaker 2: he almost like goes as far away from spoiling him
- 27:30Speaker 2: as possible. So the point where it's like every kid
- 27:32Speaker 2: gets to be the captain each week, right, they pick
- 27:33Speaker 2: a new captain.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I was like, well he hasn't been captain yet, like
- 27:36Speaker 2: to me so and he's like he could be last
- 27:37Speaker 2: I'm like, it's okay to give you a year something.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Over conversation, it's like I don't want to show any neffotism.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, nothing at all. It's the other way. Yeah.
- 27:45Speaker 1: But yeah, to the point where it's like you're you're
- 27:47Speaker 1: going to play, you don't get to play in boots
- 27:49Speaker 1: or like whatever.
- 27:50Speaker 2: But also Bart, he is able to have realized that, you know,
- 27:52Speaker 2: I am getting like preferential treatment and it's not the
- 27:55Speaker 2: benefit benefit for the team. So he takes one for
- 27:57Speaker 2: the team and they end up winning.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:58Speaker 2: I think it's he gets arrested something you can't remember talking.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Before about the like little differences with America and strides.
- 28:04Speaker 1: So they've got the like chopping for like the cup
- 28:06Speaker 1: they call it, like I guess the equivalent we have cricket.
- 28:09Speaker 1: Where's the box, you know, but we don't have anything
- 28:11Speaker 1: in that any of our football. Yeah, so about that,
- 28:14Speaker 1: I was pretty funny.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I like the moment too. At least it is like,
- 28:17Speaker 2: that's right. A girl wants to play football, and it's like,
- 28:19Speaker 2: that's great, We've already got three on the team. She's like,
- 28:21Speaker 2: oh yeah, And all of a sudden, I don't care now.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah. It was very funny, like Homer's coaching
- 28:30Speaker 1: giving grief ned Yeah.
- 28:32Speaker 2: The cutting, yeah he does over the credits as well.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Your cut. Yeah yeah, I'll throw another one out. I
- 28:38Speaker 2: have got here dead putting society. Oh yes, that's so.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I love golf, you know, it just it's one of
- 28:44Speaker 2: those sports. It's just so my wife can see, it's
- 28:46Speaker 2: so boring. But I like watching golf, and I think
- 28:48Speaker 2: just growing up things like Tiger was ninety nine on
- 28:51Speaker 2: the PlayStation. Loved that game, right, and Tiger Woods was
- 28:54Speaker 2: just like such a cool start at the time, and
- 28:56Speaker 2: then you had films like Happy Gilmore, You're on your
- 28:58Speaker 2: Chubs Jumper. Yeah, it just made me love golf even more.
- 29:01Speaker 2: But this one here they take it to the next
- 29:02Speaker 2: level and have it it's minigolf, yes, and shows even
- 29:04Speaker 2: minigolf can be competitive, right. But it's the first episode
- 29:07Speaker 2: where we saw a crack in Flanders where Homer made
- 29:10Speaker 2: him break and had a big argument. Then he writes
- 29:12Speaker 2: had apologies letter and he says I'm feeling this pain
- 29:14Speaker 2: or in my bosom. They laugh about it, he mocks him,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and they make the deal about if my son wins,
- 29:18Speaker 2: whoever losers has to wear his wife's Sunday dress mowing
- 29:21Speaker 2: the lawn. It's that one. So it's really competitive in
- 29:23Speaker 2: that way. But I just like that Bart and Todd
- 29:27Speaker 2: learn good sportsmanship and they're like, you know what, who
- 29:30Speaker 2: cares about this, It's just kids minigolf. Let's just take
- 29:32Speaker 2: a draw. And then both the parents like what do
- 29:34Speaker 2: you mean? And Homer's cracking and then they have to
- 29:35Speaker 2: wear the dress at the end. But making mini golf interesting,
- 29:38Speaker 2: they did a great job in my opinion.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I do. Do you know what season is that?
- 29:43Speaker 2: The free season two?
- 29:44Speaker 1: Two? Yeah, because I did feel like that just before
- 29:48Speaker 1: when I thought the show started, I hit it straps. Yeah,
- 29:50Speaker 1: but it was pretty good earlier.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, probably one of the more memorable ones for the
- 29:55Speaker 2: earlier seasons for me.
- 29:56Speaker 1: Yeah, because like you know, I love the show and
- 29:59Speaker 1: can watch one and two. I just don't think it was.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's so funny. Yeah, what's the next one for you?
- 30:06Speaker 1: This one? Well, I was just gonna say, on with
- 30:08Speaker 1: the golf thing, that's that's great. That is a really
- 30:11Speaker 1: good app And then you've also got wanting to join
- 30:13Speaker 1: the country club.
- 30:13Speaker 2: I've no, no, no, no, I've got no more mentions that
- 30:16Speaker 2: home playing golf because the but it's so memorable, isn't it. Yeah,
- 30:20Speaker 2: mister Burns cheating and not knowing that he's cheating.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah, And we often, you know, we're on the internet,
- 30:25Speaker 1: we often think about memes. So the classic leak of
- 30:28Speaker 1: ours putting challenge. Of course, that wasn't even Yeah, I
- 30:33Speaker 1: was just me thinking about not as but references.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Well, the The thing is, was mister Burns really cheating
- 30:39Speaker 2: because he didn't know Spinners was doing all this. He
- 30:41Speaker 2: thought he was winning this. Yeah, and then when he
- 30:43Speaker 2: realizes like, oh ship.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Yeah, so the next one I wanted to go for,
- 30:47Speaker 1: which I'm again I'm not. I don't think it's a
- 30:49Speaker 1: whole episode of football. I forgot the title at home
- 30:52Speaker 1: and being friends with Ned, you know, I thought about it, Yeah,
- 30:55Speaker 1: because because they've got the it's the Dan Taylor he's
- 30:58Speaker 1: friends with him. Yeah, and that's where that's where we
- 31:01Speaker 1: have like Nacho man yeah, and a lot of those things.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Like I said, being Australian where there's something like that
- 31:08Speaker 1: seemed just so out like we do not have things
- 31:10Speaker 1: like well, you know, be in Australia. I grew up
- 31:13Speaker 1: in Brisbane, so a little different. But I'm sure Victoria's
- 31:16Speaker 1: are same. It's you know, hot chips, very basic.
- 31:20Speaker 2: It, hot pies, yeah, cold drinks, chocolate bus Yeah, it's very.
- 31:24Speaker 1: No, I love it, but it's very like that just
- 31:26Speaker 1: seems so raised, like the dip.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yeah, but that's of course the football you're referencing. As
- 31:31Speaker 2: they go to watch the game, yeh, tickets for he
- 31:33Speaker 2: takes him and then he gets the ball and he
- 31:35Speaker 2: calls a stitch face.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Yes that's is that the app where the guy goes
- 31:39Speaker 1: on thirty thousand tickets things and they're like, yeah, don't
- 31:42Speaker 1: have it on me, and then yes, outrageous.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Be in lineing up all this time?
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I love those little just they're like, you know, Pete,
- 31:51Speaker 1: there's a real life thing of people having frustration trying
- 31:54Speaker 1: to get tickets. It's just amped up.
- 31:56Speaker 2: Yeah, remember that when you have to line up. Yeah,
- 32:00Speaker 2: it's getting to an online que and computer crashes like
- 32:02Speaker 2: three times.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Being a nice kid, I do. And I love my
- 32:06Speaker 1: rock music and that too. I remember being a kid
- 32:08Speaker 1: on the news and seeing the like the campouts for
- 32:11Speaker 1: like Pearl Jam Metallica and me being just like ten
- 32:14Speaker 1: and I'm not old enough to go to that. Plus
- 32:17Speaker 1: I'm a little bit before I started getting into harder music.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But I just thought that's so cool. You know see
- 32:21Speaker 1: the metal head.
- 32:22Speaker 2: We did it for finals footy Oh yeah finals coming up.
- 32:25Speaker 2: We need to get line up for get tickets. Yeah,
- 32:27Speaker 2: I slept on the street, but now what is Its
- 32:30Speaker 2: just like yeah, and it's like do not refresh and
- 32:34Speaker 2: then it just crashes.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Yeah, modern technology or it takes your money out, but
- 32:39Speaker 1: you didn't get the tech. I was like, people took whatever?
- 32:44Speaker 1: Did I give my yes home home?
- 32:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I've got Team Homer, which is the bowling one.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Oh yes, yes that's another double because there's like nothing
- 32:54Speaker 1: against tenth and bowling. But my query was like is
- 32:57Speaker 1: this a sport that I.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Was like, yeah, I love watching sports, but because the
- 33:00Speaker 2: people who play professionally take associous, yes.
- 33:04Speaker 1: A class. One of the best ever memes is like
- 33:06Speaker 1: do you know who you are?
- 33:08Speaker 2: I am?
- 33:09Speaker 1: Yeah, that's so good.
- 33:10Speaker 2: Where do you think you are? That is unbelievable.
- 33:13Speaker 1: I have a lot of favorite ever jokes, probably like
- 33:15Speaker 1: because it's a great show, there's a lot of joke.
- 33:17Speaker 1: I don't know if you know this. There's a lot
- 33:18Speaker 1: of jokes covered, but one of my favorite ever jokes.
- 33:24Speaker 1: And I don't go out of my way to have
- 33:26Speaker 1: like different ones to other people, but I like to think.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I like to think my my favorites are different.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Just a lot of you know, you know, I'm a
- 33:34Speaker 2: kind of I listen to.
- 33:36Speaker 1: Bands no one's even that I haven't even been created.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Or you see someonere in a bandst what's your favorite song?
- 33:42Speaker 1: I don't go out of my way to be weird.
- 33:44Speaker 1: But anyway, I find.
- 33:46Speaker 2: I'm not a big fan of everything's coming up Millhouse.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I'm not that is it really even funny?
- 33:51Speaker 1: Yeah, so I do find a lot of my favorite jokes.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I don't I haven't seen much love for it elsewhere.
- 33:59Speaker 1: But one of my jokes, and this is I guess
- 34:03Speaker 1: some people never change, or they quickly change and quickly change.
- 34:08Speaker 1: That's like right in my wheelhouse, right because I love that,
- 34:11Speaker 1: like like plays on saying change the heart. Yeah. And
- 34:15Speaker 1: it was like, oh, but there's so many good bits
- 34:17Speaker 1: so like and and again we talked about this before.
- 34:21Speaker 1: When does a joke become so silly or outrageous like
- 34:25Speaker 1: mister Burns is we you know we've seen him like
- 34:29Speaker 1: trying to hit people. Yeah, yeah, I think they take
- 34:33Speaker 1: it to the extremes, you know, when he's.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Like basically passes out on the ball.
- 34:37Speaker 1: And I love that thing where it's like like ten
- 34:40Speaker 1: games have been playing ten strikeouts and the time the ball.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Got the ball.
- 34:44Speaker 1: Yeah, And again that's just the beauty of animation. You
- 34:48Speaker 1: couldn't even do that probably try and do that in
- 34:51Speaker 1: real life, like.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Because we we had the guy that wrote that episode
- 34:54Speaker 2: on the show to review it and we're touching on
- 34:57Speaker 2: it with him, It's like, what's mister Burns didn't entire
- 35:00Speaker 2: time was he doing? Did he plan this? Did he
- 35:02Speaker 2: go I'm actually gonna screw these guys over at the end,
- 35:04Speaker 2: or did he actually change and actually shows the compassion
- 35:07Speaker 2: and actually, you know what's better having the trophy to myself,
- 35:09Speaker 2: I'm gonna get back to my old ways. Or was
- 35:11Speaker 2: he actually just planning it the entire time?
- 35:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I love. Turn it puts that question
- 35:16Speaker 1: out kind of out there too, of like just because
- 35:19Speaker 1: someone can fund the thing, like is it better than
- 35:22Speaker 1: your your pop mates because it does kind of compited
- 35:26Speaker 1: against and because again that's another like I love when
- 35:33Speaker 1: you see a product you're like it, can he get this?
- 35:36Speaker 1: Or you know, I've often I know online a lot
- 35:40Speaker 1: of things get repeated off and see like what's I
- 35:43Speaker 1: see this come up saying like like what's the food
- 35:45Speaker 1: item on the Simpsons you'd have and a lot of
- 35:47Speaker 1: people like skin all brown natural, morning bird and but
- 35:51Speaker 1: those kind of things like that. I was like, I
- 35:52Speaker 1: always want the lobster harmon.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I'm surprised they never made them.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I never play those games. I always thought it.
- 35:59Speaker 2: Was I've always liked them. But now I'm older and
- 36:02Speaker 2: my kids want me to spend my money on I'm like,
- 36:05Speaker 2: you know, scam right, I can go to the Supermarke
- 36:07Speaker 2: and by twenty of these a dollar.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 36:10Speaker 2: But like I always think, but is there anything more
- 36:12Speaker 2: thrilling than winning something on the corn machine? You know?
- 36:14Speaker 1: But it's like, I know people will say it's skill base,
- 36:17Speaker 1: but it's.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Like it's luck. Yeah, but it is like the skill base,
- 36:20Speaker 2: but when it picks up, it goes.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Not like totally against games you know, Whack an Alligator
- 36:26Speaker 1: or like the bar even the ones a pretty well.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I do not want to play where it's just like oh,
- 36:31Speaker 1: there goes your money.
- 36:32Speaker 2: Because you can pick it up and then it gets
- 36:34Speaker 2: the top and goes do do do?
- 36:37Speaker 1: It's like it's it's almost like a poky. It just
- 36:39Speaker 1: decides who's going to win.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Speaking of boozer, my dad like two weeks ago, one
- 36:44Speaker 2: fifteen grand on the Pokeys and I was like, oh,
- 36:46Speaker 2: he's doom now he's gonna play forever.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Look people win. It's just super rare.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, all right, My next one I'm going to
- 36:54Speaker 2: put out there have actually I've covered all mine, but
- 36:57Speaker 2: do you have you have any more to give me.
- 36:59Speaker 2: I've got a couple of notable men.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Well, like I said, there's I think that's the one
- 37:03Speaker 1: that like clear well clearly the about sports, but then
- 37:08Speaker 1: it becomes a little bit of you know, it's funny.
- 37:11Speaker 1: I was going for the sports trying to thing, and
- 37:13Speaker 1: basketball is one that hasn't really been touched. You had
- 37:16Speaker 1: the was it magic Johnson like pulling it very small
- 37:19Speaker 1: references and the classic like he's spinning the ball. But yeah,
- 37:25Speaker 1: those were like the three main I had of like
- 37:27Speaker 1: the full eb but.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Like the noble mentions that I had it. So I've
- 37:30Speaker 2: got bart Star and the Home of Golf one. But
- 37:32Speaker 2: I've mentioned dancing Homer when he was dancing for the
- 37:35Speaker 2: for the Isotapes of Baseball.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Yeah, well, speaking of base.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Well, we haven't touched on Homer at the Bat, left
- 37:41Speaker 2: off Home at the Bat, and I just I left
- 37:43Speaker 2: it over there off because you know how you're talking
- 37:45Speaker 2: before about what's the obvious one. Yeah, everyone's going to
- 37:48Speaker 2: say Homor at the bat, and I love him at
- 37:50Speaker 2: the bat. It's a great episode, but I just enjoyed
- 37:52Speaker 2: the other ones more. Yeah, because the bats is just
- 37:55Speaker 2: full of I think if you grew up in America
- 37:57Speaker 2: and you knew all these players were, it would mean
- 38:00Speaker 2: more to you. Yeah yeah, because I mean.
- 38:02Speaker 1: There would be the equivalents of like the A Blood
- 38:04Speaker 1: and Locker.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, they didn't aflpisode. People in are like.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Who just continuing on with the bowling Like I didn't
- 38:10Speaker 1: want to double up and bowling too much? But is
- 38:12Speaker 1: it when Homer worked to the bowling hour? Would you count?
- 38:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's actually because that's.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Actually he's really they're retelling. Is it how Lisa was?
- 38:20Speaker 2: That's that's that's the and maybe make sure that they
- 38:24Speaker 2: do it for her moment because he has to give
- 38:26Speaker 2: up his job at the ball. He loves the bowling alley,
- 38:28Speaker 2: but then margin now so that she's pregnant with a
- 38:30Speaker 2: third kid and he can't a forty, he has to
- 38:32Speaker 2: go back to his other job again. That's where he
- 38:34Speaker 2: says that's for employment for ten years, and it literally
- 38:37Speaker 2: burns the bridge as he's going over it.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And that has one of the most beautiful segments of
- 38:44Speaker 1: not only animation but music, the how the how the
- 38:48Speaker 1: pins are made. You know, Oh yeah, oh that was beautiful.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Love that a little peak behind the scenes. It's like
- 38:55Speaker 1: something that's clearly not real, like yes for fun. Yeah,
- 38:58Speaker 1: and there's so many classic like moments of shining bowl
- 39:02Speaker 1: have you been using.
- 39:04Speaker 2: You've been showing your head in the reflection?
- 39:06Speaker 1: Yeah, bowling, get your bowling. I think not in an
- 39:11Speaker 1: overly nasty way, but I think they're poking fun at
- 39:15Speaker 1: the whole world of bowling out.
- 39:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:17Speaker 1: It is not a glamorous place.
- 39:19Speaker 2: It's not, but like, I mean, it's fun to go
- 39:20Speaker 2: to be You wouldn't want to go there all the time. Yeah,
- 39:23Speaker 2: it's going there as a novelty. Yeah. There's like one
- 39:26Speaker 2: proper bowling alley left in Geelong and we go there occasionally.
- 39:29Speaker 2: But I went there about I don't know two months ago.
- 39:30Speaker 2: My son had a birthday party there and I was like,
- 39:32Speaker 2: this place hasn't changed arcade machines from when I was
- 39:35Speaker 2: fucking ten.
- 39:37Speaker 1: It's really fine, that is it, Barney. We're like, can
- 39:39Speaker 1: I have a job?
- 39:40Speaker 2: Yeah, so you're out. Yeah.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's like so fain asking for a friend to
- 39:45Speaker 1: have a job. Yeah.
- 39:47Speaker 2: The other bowling one that I've got mentioned here is
- 39:49Speaker 2: Life in the fast Lane, which is from the first
- 39:52Speaker 2: season where Marge gets taken away by her her bowling instructors,
- 39:58Speaker 2: the French.
- 39:59Speaker 1: And then he reapears with home Wreckers.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Is that Yeah? So it's in the home wreckerds is Lerline, Lumpkin, Mindy,
- 40:06Speaker 2: Jacques and Princess Cashmia.
- 40:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 40:08Speaker 2: And the reason she's the reason she's the homewreckers because
- 40:12Speaker 2: remember the Homer's Night out where they take a photo
- 40:14Speaker 2: of Homer and Princess Kshmia. Yeah, the earlier I think.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I think that was first season as well, So that's
- 40:19Speaker 2: why she was a homewrecord there. But I just love
- 40:21Speaker 2: that the ending of the one where Homer he's taken,
- 40:25Speaker 2: He's taken, March for granted, and then she gets swept
- 40:27Speaker 2: away by this bowling instructor who's showing her and she's
- 40:29Speaker 2: sort of thinking, and you think, as a viewer, is
- 40:31Speaker 2: she going to go to home or she's going to
- 40:32Speaker 2: go to Jacques and ruin the marriage? And she rocks
- 40:35Speaker 2: up at Homer's work and she walks in and it's
- 40:37Speaker 2: the same as a parody of the film An Officer
- 40:39Speaker 2: and a Gentleman where she walks in and he picks
- 40:41Speaker 2: up and says, he says, what do I tell the boss?
- 40:43Speaker 2: Tell her. I'm going to the backs into my car
- 40:44Speaker 2: with the woman I love and we'll be back for
- 40:45Speaker 2: ten minutes. Yeah.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Like again, in its best form, almost crue, but it's not.
- 40:52Speaker 1: It's just yeah, it's pretty harmless.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's taken a piece out of Homer as well. Yeah,
- 40:56Speaker 2: so she an't get in a session.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:58Speaker 2: But The Simpsons at its best too, was when it
- 41:01Speaker 2: used to parody things, right, yeah, but didn't hit you
- 41:03Speaker 2: on the head with it. But you knew it was something.
- 41:05Speaker 2: So when you were a kid watching The Simpsons in
- 41:07Speaker 2: the nineties, you're like, I know that this is too
- 41:09Speaker 2: odd to not be a reference to something. And what
- 41:12Speaker 2: it did was it made you go and research and
- 41:13Speaker 2: find out, oh, it's that, and they introduced you to
- 41:16Speaker 2: all these pop culture icons like the Godfather and all
- 41:18Speaker 2: these things, because you watch it on the Simpson and
- 41:20Speaker 2: you're like, what is that and then you're like, oh,
- 41:22Speaker 2: it's the god for Oh it's Indiana Jones. Oh it's
- 41:24Speaker 2: all these great classic films. All right, Well, we are done.
- 41:28Speaker 2: That is our best sporting moments on The Simpsons. Thank
- 41:30Speaker 2: you for joining me, sir, Yes, thank you. So you're
- 41:32Speaker 2: going to do your show now in Geelong, ex. Do
- 41:34Speaker 2: you plan a set or do you just yeah, not
- 41:37Speaker 2: wing it, but do you Yeah.
- 41:38Speaker 1: So generally, like when the comedy first surround, you could
- 41:42Speaker 1: do like a theme show with a bit of a
- 41:44Speaker 1: like the last one I did my own little like
- 41:46Speaker 1: Cone O'Brien talk show. Yeah, yeah, because the first like
- 41:50Speaker 1: you have longer, like Melbourne goes for about a Matt
- 41:53Speaker 1: Melbourne comedy first. But when I'm just touring around going
- 41:56Speaker 1: town to town, I'll just do the best jokes I've got.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Feel like you could do a good show. Reading menus
- 42:02Speaker 2: from the nineties restaurant means going fifty cents for a
- 42:05Speaker 2: dimmy oh Man nineteen nineties.
- 42:09Speaker 1: I love just like certain Yeah they're very basic, like
- 42:14Speaker 1: I was talking about, like hot pies and chips. Yeah,
- 42:16Speaker 1: just relatability you can't be you know what. I love
- 42:20Speaker 1: like going to regional towns and seeing the like real
- 42:22Speaker 1: old school like Chinese restaurant like oh, just before the
- 42:26Speaker 1: ones that hit before people were like trying tie and.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Yeah yeah yeah, it's like I was Chinese, yeah, menu
- 42:32Speaker 2: on the front window, yeah, and it was, and the.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Doing this yeah, and the Western eyes meals like like
- 42:41Speaker 1: prawn toasts, pron crackers pron crackers. So yeah, yeah, turing around.
- 42:48Speaker 2: Yeah, plug your shows and plug your spot.
- 42:50Speaker 1: Got another boxing fight this year, you do?
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah? So are you're more confident this time?
- 42:54Speaker 1: A little bit? Yeah, I need to start getting training,
- 42:58Speaker 1: but that's going to start happening, saying you know, I
- 43:00Speaker 1: was like when you put things off like like.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Lead.
- 43:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's like I've really got to cram.
- 43:07Speaker 2: In some That's how I did all my UNI, all
- 43:09Speaker 2: my school work. It's like you don't do any work
- 43:10Speaker 2: until the night before. Yeah, do your best work.
- 43:13Speaker 1: And then you arrive at the exam with baggy eyes, and.
- 43:16Speaker 2: But you do your best work. Yeah, I've got plagy
