- 0:34[SPEAKER_02]: What is going on, faithful?
- 0:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if you can see or hear the smile.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm pump today, you guys should be too.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: We got the man, Ant-Man is back for the coach approach.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_02]: Ant, 49ers, cut back how you do it, my friend.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: I'm doing great.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's so good to be back.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited about this been looking forward to talking to you.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's been a while.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, we had a long hiatus and now we it was off season and we had all that going on, but it's the regular season and games are happening, which means
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: When we talk football, we get in X's and O's and everything that's going on.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's always just a little bit different with the coach approach and I love it.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of a difference from the normal content on a lot of channels.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm always excited to talk to you, John.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, I'm excited to be back and everybody's been so great.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: And my time off everyone's been great.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so I came back as well.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I really appreciate everybody.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: And it's good to get back to the Norman and back to 49er football.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: And coming off a big win against the division rival doesn't get better than that.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_02]: It's funny.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: I know I need more ant in my life whenever I'm watching tape and I'm like in the back of my mind I'm like, oh, I wonder what ant would say about this.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I wonder I do ant would bring this like it's funny.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_02]: The impact that you have had and you know so many people have reached out It said you know like what's going on with the coach approach dude.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_02]: We were not going anywhere.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_02]: We're not going in
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: anywhere.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be here.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_02]: This is by far, you know, I love every episode.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_02]: I do, you know, throughout the week, but this is this one's for me.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: This is the one that makes me feel in the, and if this is your first, you know, 49ers coach approach.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_02]: The idea was, dude, can we just talk like we're coaches in an office, you know, and so much of the coaching job is sitting around
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: board work or film work or just talking through, man, I wonder what would you do if you did this?
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And just those types of conversations.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: So we're trying to do a little bit of a peek behind the curtain with our coaching background.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take looks into coaching things that we really, really like from last week, the destroying of the Rams.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_02]: And then we're going to look forward into the dolphins that Thursday is kind of,
- 2:42[SPEAKER_02]: That pivotal, all right, not quite put to bed.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: We won, but let's start looking forward a little bit, and as always, if you have questions, let's get those in the chat.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_02]: Look at Aaron John grab a two extra beers to watch party versus dolphins is going to hit so differently this time.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, like I've shared this story so many times.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: I'm at the
- 3:02[SPEAKER_02]: The Dolphids game, you know, back in what was it 2023 when Jimmy Grappler got hurt or was it 2022 I think 2022 2022 Jimmy gets hurt I throw my hands in the air like freaking doing the family guy done like I see Jimmy Grappler getting Carter off the field I'm going to get some beers I go down grab a couple beers I'm walking back up and you know you can't walk
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: down the road during the play.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: So I always sit on the stairs to wait because there's fan etiquette and I'm like, Oh, nice play.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_02]: And then I go up a couple more stairs until the place about snapping, then I sit down and I watch and I'm like, Oh, nice play in the whole game.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_02]: Just was like, hey, who is this guy?
- 3:42[SPEAKER_02]: And sure enough, he is a franchise quarterback.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: This time's going to be different.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_02]: Let's jump back.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_02]: What were your,
- 3:50[SPEAKER_02]: Take us through the draft, the drafting of Brock Perti, and when was the moment where you're like, this is the guy, because even after they drafted him, I was like, camp arm went through his tape.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, yeah, not feeling a lot of secret sauce here.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: 100% wrong.
- 4:05[SPEAKER_02]: I love being wrong.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: What was your Brock Perti journey to understanding this is the guy?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think what's interesting is I was on live when they drafted him and probably like the end of the six round my my chat was flying up with a the 49 team to drop rock pretty the 49 team to drop rock pretty and I hadn't done extensive work on rock pretty the 49ers had Jimmy Garoppolo they had.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: tray so they didn't really need anybody else.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't really take it into consideration and they drafted them.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: I like I got to get into this guy.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then through the camp, I thought Nate Sudfeld was going to beat him out.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I did.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they were going to go Nate Sudfeld.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: They had already been very comfortable with him.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: And then all of a sudden he makes the team.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: And as soon as he made the team, I thought, wait, there must be something different about him because of that factor.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: Now I wasn't like some that were like all in on Brock.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: I was hoping that maybe he could turn into a very talented backup kind of, you know, a guy that could step in and case something happened to trail ants down the road.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: But then he got in and when he got in that dolphins game, I remember my first thought when Jimmy went down was, oh shoot, we're a championship team without a championship caliber quarterback.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: We're in trouble.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: And then he started playing and I thought, wait, this guy's a gunslinger like there was just something a little bit different about his energy Then all of a sudden you go through the week and you got the Fred Warner clips is like it's partying like they're just like talking about a Brock and stuff and I thought wow these guys have so much confidence in Brock pretty I should have confidence in Brock pretty and I thought that once he came out in that Tampa Bay game and really just tore it up then everyone knew that this was something special and I think since then we've all been riding with Brock pretty but
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I wasn't all in on Brock pretty.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: I was waiting for this thing to kind of play out because I wasn't sure, but he's he's been phenomenal and went from to oh my gosh, this guy's really good.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle you check touchdown, I'll never forget that first throw out in the flat, just phenomenal for for Brock and I'm so glad that he's our quarterback.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: And you throw it out into the flats.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't, you don't even see him catch it.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_02]: You turn around and hold that finger up.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_02]: The moxie, man.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, that is, whoo.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_02]: Speaking of moxie, look at this, Rob Louter, the striking gold pocket.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: He said, Red Hat tip, that's right.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_02]: We both got Red Hat's on.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_02]: I'm rocking the residency and always looking fresh as hell.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_02]: What's up?
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Everybody go check out the striking gold podcast.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: They're a new YouTube channel, him and Kyle Posey.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_02]: They do, you're going to learn.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to learn.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to learn.
- 6:33[SPEAKER_02]: Scott right here 2022 when a stranger pointed to the TV and said quote is it that your son in quote arms that's how Brock Daddy realized he was in the game that's that's just what it was it was nobody saw this coming and it just kind of came out of nowhere
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: long for the right and in the words of Kyle Shanahan, I hope Brock is the quarterback for as long as I am the coach of this team, he just got extended.
- 7:02[SPEAKER_02]: Brock is signed through what is it like 20 goodness?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_02]: I probably should have had this pulled up, but how long is Brock pretty signed through?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: You give me a year.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: Do you know it was like 20 31 or 20 32, but I can't 20 30 he's got void years after that.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_02]: But the last contract year.
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for giving me time to look that up and I totally threw him under the bus there.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: 20 30 is the last side contract year of Brock party and his contract doesn't balloon until 20 28.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: Like he's he got 23 million dollar cap hit next year for a quarterback on a second huge contract.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: That's nothing year after that 2027 30 million then it balloons to 56 in 2028.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_02]: That is when the automatic contract Renegotiation has been thrown in there.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_02]: So that's when we will see that that's when it's going to take place.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this Darren.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: What's up, man.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: My first Niners Rush Road Trip was part of his first game against Miami with you, John.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go!
- 8:05[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, that was a good time hanging out with you and Jim.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Have a good time out.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_02]: I missed you, dear.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_02]: He's a stud all the way out from Hawaii dude.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate you so much.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: I still got my Hawaii hat.
- 8:14[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much, buddy.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: Appreciate it.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this, Vicki!
- 8:18[SPEAKER_02]: great take once the team was openly behind Brock no question he was our guy yeah because even that first off season was weird because he had the UCI or whatever the elbow thing it's almost like can he come back will he come back he you know what's that going to look like he's done a trade land she still had same thought like it was just weird but once all that was in the past and Brock came back it was just uh
- 8:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's been awesome and he got a couple of knuckleheads that are like, ooh, this room was samed Arnold.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, this room with Mac Jones.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: The back of quarterback, there's always going to be a small faction of the fan base that wants to get behind that.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_02]: That's just happens with every single team in it.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: You're so popular like the 49ers.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to get a lot of those.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, he's been through a lot.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_02]: It's freaking awesome.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: That's all I'm gonna say.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_02]: Look at this, Vicky.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: I don't need time to answer 2030, 30 for Perti.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: Look at Vicky.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you, sis.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: You're the absolute best man.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: Say what's up to Ryan for me.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's a legend as well.
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: All right, now we've got this comment.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: And this is gonna take us into the first part of our show notes.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_02]: Mark says I haven't watched the all 22 yet.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_02]: But was I hallucinating or did they get push against the ramst defensive tackles in the run game?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: Let's talk about the coach approach against the Rams.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: Let's look back before we look forward.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_02]: What were some things offensively that kind of stood out to you?
- 9:41[SPEAKER_02]: And let's pick up right here.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_02]: Judge the offensive line in the run game against that Rams Stout defensive tackle group.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_02]: What were your thoughts on what did you see?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they weren't getting a movement and I thought that they were going to kind of attack Byron Young going into that game because Byron Young is a little bit light, especially when it comes to stopping the run and they were able to handle him with tight ends and full backs and things like that.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: And that made it easier for them to be able to double team at the point of attack, push to the second level, but I thought we saw Connor Kobe and Dominique Pony really helped get some movement in the middle.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought that that was extremely important.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: You knew that Dominic Coney, if he was healthy, he was going to be able to get some people moving.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_01]: He was really good in past blocking as well.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought that those guys got things going.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: But Kyle Shayne, his well, just being able to scheme this up, getting some of the motions, getting some of the angles for the guys who are blocking is very important.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: But the 49ers were willing to go ahead and double up front gets a movement and the rams were unwilling to come out of their two high safety look or come out of their nickel.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_01]: They were basically saying, hey, we don't think you can run consistently on us.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris, sure, shoe a learned that that's not the case.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers were going to run all over you.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you let this happen, so it was nice to see the movement up front.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Conor Kobe did a really good job in this game.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was a very serviceable left guard in this league now.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_01]: And the 49ers have a good group.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: He looks a lot healthier than he did last year, so there was actually some Jake Brendel plays where he did pretty well.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_01]: So it was a really good interior offensive line and it was a focus on it, but the Rams were just unwilling to do anything to help their defense try to stop that 49ers run game.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: They were kind of stuck in what they were doing and it really it really hurt them in the long run.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_02]: you know I thought it was interesting one of my notes that I have for today's show was the fact that they stuck with Connor Colby the entire game his first series was his worst series a lot of mistakes early but they they they had the confidence in him
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: And you and I both were like, dude, Connor Colby should be the starter, the consistency, all throughout training camp, all throughout the preseason.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: One perfect, it still had some, you know, flaws, still had some errors in this game, but the consistency overall, the fact that
- 11:52[SPEAKER_02]: You didn't give up all those quarterback hits and that's why you couldn't go with Carver Willis early.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's just man.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: If you go Carver Willis, Brock party's going to get hit more his blitz past pro.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Not where it should be.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_02]: So I love the fact that they stuck with Connor Colby and yeah, Jake Brindle, especially in the first half.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: He had some kind of highlight place, which man would 64 get some highlights.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_02]: watch out because this run game can do some damage now in the second half, especially the fourth quarter.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Jake Prendo will look like Jake Prendo evolved.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_02]: A lot of mistakes had some whiffs fall down on two plays where he didn't touch anybody.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: There were some issues there, but overall the consensus of the entirety game in the 65 offensive snaps.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: did really well.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_02]: Really, really liked what they put together offensively, especially offensive line.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: Well, let's go back.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I just leave it open for you here.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_02]: And give me something else on offense, perhaps that you saw that you like seeing that the coaches kind of, they're, they're are attempt on offense.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know, I loved Kyle Shainahan's game plan coming into this.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was, it was a masterclass.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, I wasn't saying this was hyperbole during the week.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying, though, this is actually what it was from protections to just how we handled the game plan.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he came out and the object of a offensive coordinators always to get the defense to cover every blade of grass.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you talk to offensive coordinators, how can we get this defense to cover every blade of grass?
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Because if you do you create space.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_01]: and that's exactly what Kyle Shane handed those screen passes early horizontal offense spreading them out horizontally and then the deep shot eventually to the Marcus Robinson when they kind of crept up to get that vertical part of it as well.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: So you saw every aspect of it, the short game, the intermediate game, the deep game from the passing game, and then you saw the run game take what they were going to give them on defense.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, you want to run nickel,
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to attack you, we're going to use Kyle, you check in our tight ends to kind of come up and get either edge defenders or second level players and block them well.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_01]: So I thought that that was really big.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's deter that past rush early.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_01]: Let's put a focus on Miles Garrett, make sure he doesn't get after Brock Perty and we'll systematically move down the field.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought that that was a really big part of this offense.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_01]: I also love that they didn't force feed anybody.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_01]: The game plan was Kittle, McAfrey, Debo, Mike Evans.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: And another that really does a lot to a defense as well when they can't kind of hone in on what you're doing.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris you didn't know what Kyle Shanahan was doing the entire game.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle Shanahan was definitely doing big things.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I love that for this offense.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's what makes me believe.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: It can be consistently good.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: And let's not forget that in the red zone, they are phenomenal.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: I know there were 66 just get ready.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be over 70% for the season.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Miami Dolphins 75% of the time they give up touchdowns last week to the Vegas Raiders inside the red zone.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_01]: expect that from the 40 that would not be shocked if it's 75% this week.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_02]: 60% of the time it works 100% of the time.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_02]: That's just got to wear it.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I'd like your idea of spreading the ball making them defend every blade of grass.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_02]: The 49ers ran 30% screens.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_02]: Debo being back definitely attributes that, but if you go back to the last year, Debo was on the Niners roster in 2024, they kind of got rid of the screen game.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_02]: And so they moved away from that and, you know, Mark, this is awesome comment.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_02]: Brock's height has been an issue with the screen game, because the balls coming out and those ends coming off the edge, they got a little bit better chance to get in their hands on it.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: Wasn't an issue.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_02]: And so I perhaps this offseason, there were some adjustments and how they're going to run these screens.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: How they're going to set those up.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_02]: I love that because when you have so many playmakers like Debo like kiddo you throw in use check you throw in the running backs man get them the ball and now you know.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: in case you missed shows yesterday right here to great ghost face says what ended up happening with the Ross moves did dribbling get moved to IR he did the timeline shandhand game was ten weeks I think it could be more.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: But now that he's out you're going to have to rely on Jacob Cowling and Jordan Walkins.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: those are screen type wide receivers.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: Those are gadget type wide receivers that man in order to get them up to speed, you're going to need some more that short game stuff if they're going to be in there.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm already off script, but let's just stay with it.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_02]: What are some of the offensive looking ahead now to the dolphins?
- 16:30[SPEAKER_02]: How do you see or want to see the coach approach to attacking the dolphins defense this upcoming game?
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the first thing you're going to do is establish the run.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: The Miami Dolphins, they could not stop the run against Vegas and, you know, you're getting a very similar style of offense and offensive approach from Kubiak in Las Vegas.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: So when you're looking at film this week, you're seeing that on offense from Kubiak.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then you look at Jeff Hathley's defense and you're like, yeah, I've seen this a bunch of times too, whether that was in Green Bay or just what he had done when he was in San Francisco with Robert Sala.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you just see a situation where the 49ers are going to be comfortable in this game.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I think establishing a run is going to be big.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: The man would also give a 130 yards on the ground last week to Ash and Gentie in that group.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't a great performance and the 49ers are going to go bright back to it.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_01]: get, get, get K-Long black the ball, get him, get it early and let him kind of be a little bit of a work course.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: But there's also the the opportunity beyond the run game where running backs are going to be a problem in the passing game as well.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: Christian McAfrey can do all the things as to engine, he can do at a higher level in the passing game and as to engine, he was tearing them apart.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of look for running backs and tight ends to be a little bit more.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: a part of this game plan versus the Raiders.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, against the the dolphins, then they were last week with the ram.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: So rams, the wide receivers took a lot of the onus in the passing game, but I think when you get to the passing game, I think it's going to be a lot of the tight ends and running backs.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_01]: There's just too many matchup problems for the man be dolphin to our extremely young on offense and defense and really need a lot of work.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that's what they're going to do lean on the run game early and then kind of hit those running backs and tight ends as this game progresses.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, I mean, they couldn't stop the Raiders really at all.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: And it's funny because they're two starting linebackers.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: Jacob Rodriguez, Edward Brooks, who the Niners should be well aware of.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: He was in Seattle, the Shanahan kind of chased him out of there.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_02]: They're kind of your textbook.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_02]: wrap and tackle chase and tackle their run stuffing linebackers they just don't have the defensive line for it they don't have the safety's for it and so their linebackers are built around okay we're going to for sure tacklers we're going to get the run stops but me and the lines just getting moved
- 18:43[SPEAKER_02]: it's not a solid team.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_02]: One of my favorite stats, and I want to give credit to Josh Dubo AB of the AP, Associated Press.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: He put this out there.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: The dolphins had 436 snaps played by rookies in week one.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: That's the most for any team in week one in the past 20 NFL seasons.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: like from a starter standpoint, actually getting plenty of time to standpoint in the last two decades of the NFL.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_02]: This is a huge reset.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_02]: They are tanking with class.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: They are not trying to win games.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: I know the coaching staff and players are, but they're not built that way.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_02]: And so I retweeted that and I put like man this is stark difference between the older 49ers and the dolphins young dolphins well he did some more research shout out to him and he said the 49ers had 511 snaps from players in their 30s in week one that's the most in the past five seasons in the NFL.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_02]: So like you literally have the youngest team in two decades and then you have the oldest team
- 19:56[SPEAKER_02]: Um, verse like I just think about bane.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_02]: You fight like young men like like that.
- 20:02[SPEAKER_02]: Like that is the situation that this game is and like
- 20:08[SPEAKER_02]: What are the ways that the 49ers can take advantage of this youth?
- 20:13[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I'm thinking, man, I want play actions, I want double moves, I love some trick plays, because you usually don't get the discipline of man sticking to your coverage in the D3rd or cover six or whatever else.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_02]: You want to come up and you know who Christian McCaffrey's name is, you know George Kiddles' name is, you're going to want to be a little bit more jumpy,
- 20:34[SPEAKER_02]: So offensively like are there any other ways that I'm missing besides just me and play action double moves counters like that's the stuff I want to see against this young defense
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, I mean, it's really going to be about getting some of those matchups that you're looking for too.
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: And Kyle Shanian's, one of the best when it comes to motions and formations is going to get him in a formation and then get a motion that will reveal what they're looking for.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then they're going to be able to take advantage of that.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that that's one of the things I'm looking forward to in this game.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: And that's what Kubiak was doing in a little bit last week was finding matchups for some of his playmakers where he was getting one-on-one looks.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: and couch Indians the best in the world at doing that and I expect that in this game and I don't think it has to be too crazy.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_01]: I think these guys are going to bite on on play action because once you establish that run they're going to be very eager to come up.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: You watch those linebackers very eager to get involved and they take a step forward and that opens things up over the middle of the field for the 49ers passing game.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be a lot of the same for Kyle Shainahan of what he did last week.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that last week was a little bit more.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: I want the Rams to be turning and running sideline to sideline, where this one I think they can get a little bit more vertical down the field and attack some of the more intermediate 15 to 17 yard areas.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it also want to see if the dolphins are willing to kind of sit one of those safeties in the middle of the field again.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: and try to take away those deep process, are we finally going to get a debo or Mike Evans a big play over the middle of the field.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think those those things might open up once these linebackers have to engage it.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think Christian McAfrey is going to be a problem.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_01]: I know he only needs a couple touchdowns to get to 100.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be shocked if he gets there in this game.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be a red zone problem against the dolphins.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: They just don't match up with McAfrey and with George Kittle.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a real problem for them.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_02]: And you look at, you know, Jordan Brooks got ran out of Seattle because she had him went after him every, him and Bobby Wagner, like those are the two linebackers that Kyle Shanahan just smiles about, like dude, I'm just going at these guys.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_02]: I think there was one time where
- 22:33[SPEAKER_02]: The first 12 offensive plays runs and pass Bobby Wagner was the first key like they just went Adam and and he's a Hall of Famous incredible but he was late in his career that they went Adam it was a lie and the linebackers are good for you know the dolphins but with the 49ers doing so much 12 and 21 personnel 22 personnel Willie Gay is their number three linebacker.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_02]: He is not that good.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_02]: So I could totally see that guy just having red Sharpie around him in 49ers, you know, and the coaching meetings and just being like, dude, this is where we're going.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, Scott coming in with a super chat.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you so much, man.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_02]: My him he had some success early, but as soon as the Raider stopped him, they gave up.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_02]: The San Francisco can't mess around early, but you know, get the game out of the way before halftime.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: How should I answer first,
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: entire career.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_02]: I don't expect that to change.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_02]: He knows Jeff Haffley more than Jeff Haffley knows himself.
- 23:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to know where to attack.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_02]: Like, it's the largest spread of the week.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_02]: It's up to 13 points on some books.
- 23:43[SPEAKER_02]: Like, there's not another game in double digits.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's like 5 points greater than the next game this week.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: It's not supposed to be competitive, but it is early
- 23:55[SPEAKER_02]: the dolphins have been practicing an app at their been over here for a while.
- 24:00[SPEAKER_02]: What are your thoughts?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_02]: Let's step back real quick.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_02]: We'll dive into the defensive side at a minute.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_02]: What are your overall thoughts and expectations of this game?
- 24:10[SPEAKER_02]: Like how do you see this playing now?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I think when you focus on, you know, key stats, there's always key stats that you go into every game as an offense defense as a team that you want to win.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you look at red zone, you look at a third down effectiveness, which the 49ers are really good at the Miami Dolphins are.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: The Miami Dolphins only converted on third down last week at 20% they were giving up third down to 38% which isn't bad, but you've got a situation where this is a really bad red zone team as far as defense and on offense, they weren't able to
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: on offense a lot of times they were punting the ball the way their special teams was really bad last week given a big kick returns to the Raiders gave up a good put return as well.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: Brett Boyer in that special teams unit for the 49ers is in advantage big advantage first to Miami Dolphin so what I saw was a team.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: with all that youth that is learning to play NFL football.
- 25:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's why the line is so big because right now they've got a lot of learning to do.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: Now if you let them hang around, these are young bucks.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: If they think that they've got a chance they're going to smell blood and they're going to play really hard and they're going to go for it.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: They're very eager to create turnover.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: They created two last week.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: But you've just got to stay on your pees and queues and the 40 minutes are a veteran offense.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to execute at a high level and as long as they do that, I think I could see this game kind of getting away from the Miami Dolphins as the 49ers execute and that other team kind of goes into the quicksand of trying too hard and eventually making mistakes trying to make things happen.
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that this is a very different team, 49ers, who are championship aspirations to Miami Dolphins, who are very young, who are planning for the future at Jeff Hathleys trying to build a winning program, but it's going to take them a while to get that done.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's a tank with class type situations.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: Whatever the only moves you make are left guard and running back.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: I guess they did side in Malik.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Willis, you do have to give them credit for that.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: But then you let everybody go and you trade away everything else.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: this is young team man this young team now if you are gonna bet the $40 cover the spread I'm not sure I'm going to we will post our weekly bets in the next two days so stay tuned for that that's gonna be up on the 49ers rush.com in our patreon channel but no matter how you bet anywhere you bet you got to use my book.

- 27:46[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_02]: All right, let's jump over, let's jump back and over.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go back to the week one game.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_02]: Let's focus on the 49ers defense now.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_02]: Let's look back first, then we'll look forward to the dolphins.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_02]: So looking back, going through all your film, 49ers against the Rams, bad.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: How fun was it watching a defensive coordinator?
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: Disguise, adjust, change, throw multiple looks in the front, on the back end.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a minute since we've had any type of chameleon type defense.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_02]: It was kind of fun to watch, wasn't it?
- 28:24[SPEAKER_01]: It was.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, anytime you see Matthew Stafford double clutch, you know you're doing something on defense.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, how many times are we watching defense is ran by Robert Sala or Steve Wilkes or as you refer to him, the pet rock.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: You would see these guys getting rid of the football extremely fast and they were never worried about where they were getting
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you know, where the ball was going and Matthew seven boom, boom, boom, everywhere.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: But you saw that with Rahim Morris, he was a little bit uncomfortable.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why you've seen some Aaron throws in a lot of people who are trying to say that was jet lag.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: That wasn't that was Rahim Morris and that 49ers defense, who is a lot more youthful than people want to give them credit for their a lot faster as well.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: They fly around and make plays their physical at the point of attack.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_01]: They are just different right now and we're he Morris.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: He did a great job because you know if you blitz too much against Matthew staff He can take advantage of you.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's one of those guys.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's extremely good against you know man cover to against zero looks Man zero and he did so good of Deskizing only bringing five bringing four a lot of the time just different guys coming right whether it was up and stout some of the edge players You did a really good job.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was a good game plan overall and the willingness to say you know what we're gonna sit with two eyes eighties
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: and we're still going to stop your run or slow it down enough.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: We don't think you can consistently score and they had playmakers that made plays.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: Fred Warner able to get the big stop, uh, Ronaldo, green, sagging and making the big interception.
- 29:47[SPEAKER_01]: And I got to give credit to Upton Stout and Ronaldo, green for learning in this game.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: Upton Stout seeing how they're going to block him the motion, points it out, goes in, knives in, makes the play, uh, later in the fourth quarter, does it again, they have to bounce outside and then Ronaldo, green.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: uh... didn't sag early in the game this time you recognize it sags less a linebacker take the guy that's underneath and he's right there to make a big place so i love the learning from the defense that's probably a lot of coaching to his guys are pointing things out on the side line hey look at this look at that uh... so this is a lot different well coach group compared to what we've seen in the past
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that that too high safety look.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_02]: I loved it.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_02]: It just changed it all the rules.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_02]: So whatever your offensive game play and was like, dude, you can't run the same thing.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_02]: We're not doing quarters and yeah, you know, cover three and cover six.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's different.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be that the corners are sitting.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_02]: And so it just changed where they were going to attack and it was crazy.
- 30:43[SPEAKER_02]: The staffer didn't make they never caught up.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_02]: They never caught up.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_02]: They never felt comfortable.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was awesome.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_02]: Now we have a question, oh, look at this.
- 30:53[SPEAKER_02]: Thomas coming in strong, appreciate you, my friend.
- 30:56[SPEAKER_02]: Cause then 40 riders still have some jet like, I landed Sunday back from Australia.
- 31:01[SPEAKER_02]: Dude, last night, the wife and I, we slept hard dude, like we slept hard.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_02]: So yesterday was the first day where I felt normal.
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: I was pretty sluggish, whatever I woke up this morning, but like I had two workouts yesterday, like I do a two on one on like, today I just have one workout, but my two workouts yesterday were awesome.
- 31:21[SPEAKER_02]: Now the Niners landed two days before us.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that they're going to be just fine.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: I really, really do.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: The fact that they were finding Australia after being there for six days,
- 31:33[SPEAKER_02]: They are going to be at home longer in their own beds and whatever else it was rough It's shitty and talked about like yeah, it takes time But I think the nighters are going to be fine in that area.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_02]: I am the worst jet lag human being in the world And I feel pretty good.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_02]: I did sleep pretty hard last night, but I think we're to be all right now sticking with your question On the zero blitz.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_02]: There were two plays where there were zero blitzes.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't cost them
- 32:00[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think the 49ers son cork more blitz as this week?
- 32:02[SPEAKER_02]: That at 19% blitz rate, which was like bottom five Robert Solow levels last week, but you don't blitz staffer.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history against the blitz.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_02]: Malik Willis, a little bit different story.
- 32:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love the blitz in this one.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: I love bringing an extra guy to kind of him up and keep him inside the pocket.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: Pass rush lane integrity is very important this week and adding a fifth guy, whether that is showing an initially or blitzing is gonna be very important.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_01]: Keep him in the pocket.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: When he asks the process, it takes him a lot of time.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_01]: And he holds on to the football, which will allow guys like, oh, so diggy zoo and those guys to get there from the inside.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think they're going to see a lot more blitz this week.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're going to be extremely exotic.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think they're going to be more straightforward, but I think with the stunts up front, those kind of have to be a little bit less used because of milk will ability to be able to run.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want any of those guys washed out of their rush lane.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: position.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: So I think that this is what they do.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: They bring up and stout from the outside.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes more key seagull, maybe even sometimes you'll drag Greenwall, the linebackers expect Jayden dug her a lot coming from the outside.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that they're just going to try to hit him up, make him read, make reads.
- 33:09[SPEAKER_01]: But the fact he was sacked five times last week by Las Vegas, and if you watch a lot of those sacks were four five seconds as he's just holding on the ball, I do think Greenwall is going to go get after him.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to make the week Willis beat him.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I think they should do.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, man, I have in my notes like I don't want as many stunts that was the way they went after Stafford because you don't have to worry about him escaping the pocket.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_02]: And that third fourth quarter, it was D line stunts almost every single play.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_02]: I don't want to do that this week.
- 33:38[SPEAKER_02]: I want blitzes, and I want to see what that is.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so like right here, we got this question from Scott, man, awesome question.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_02]: Any stats on how Morris defences handle quarterback runs because we are oh for the Century handling mobile quarterback runs.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: Um, yeah, like just diving through a lot of his tape.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's a lot more spy type situations where you do the cover one under cover one man under you do that a lot more which I think is really good against these young wide receivers where you'll have Fred Warner or trade green law trade green law that's kind of his specialty is spy mobile quarterbacks like that is what makes trade green law special where he could guard the wide receiver and so the way that the 49ers and reemores traditionally do this you have your two middle line backers.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: one of them, whichever one the back doesn't go to.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: So if the back flares to the right and Drake green laws on that side, he takes the backer than Fred Warner's going to be the spy the back flares to the left.
- 34:40[SPEAKER_02]: Fred Warner takes the backer than Drake green laws going to be your middle one, you know, hooked to curl defender slash spy defender.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's what you're going to see.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and so some of that cover one man under is going to be huge.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_02]: Nick Sorenson tried to do it.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_02]: Couldn't do it.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_02]: So a little bit of it last year, but
- 35:00[SPEAKER_02]: You do now and I that Malik Willis is quick and he can move.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: He can't do it against Fred Warner and Drake Greenlaw That is where things change That is where things change Scott coming in with super chat.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_02]: That's rested yesterday, but kiddo was out there
- 35:17[SPEAKER_02]: They're trying to stack those days.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_02]: Kiddled did not look 100%.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: Kiddled is still on the get back to 100% track.
- 35:26[SPEAKER_02]: Now, Kiddled at 85% is incredible as blocking looked on par, routes explosiveness, all that stuff, not so much yet.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_02]: So he's not yet to the point where it's like, okay, where where we want to be, let's sustain health.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_02]: Kiddled is still fighting to get back.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_02]: Would you agree with that?
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's still working through soreness.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to work through some of the stiffness and things like that.
- 35:48[SPEAKER_01]: So him getting extra work is very important for his body and recovery.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not always about rest.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes it's about working through it.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_01]: And he's still trying to get to the level he wants to be in.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't the George kiddo as long as he doesn't get nicked up anymore.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't the George Kiddle we're going to see, you know, two months from now.
- 36:04[SPEAKER_01]: I think he'll be a little bit more explosive and able to make more plays as handling the blocking and still be a good possession tied in.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: But as far as explosiveness, we probably won't see that for a couple months at least.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that that's what he's continuing to work through.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_02]: So, okay, Kiddle played 30 out of 65 snaps.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_02]: So just less than half.
- 36:23[SPEAKER_02]: What do you put his snap rate outlets assume it's a 65 snap game again?
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: Where would you project his snap rate to be week two against the dolphins?
- 36:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to stay around the same area 30 to 35 snaps.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's kind of where they want it.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: And they'll put Brady and Willis in situations to block.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_01]: They go 12 personnel.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: They'll put him in there and they won't worry about him and Luke Feral will handle business.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: They're confident in Brighton Willis's abilities.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see if that is.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: you know, works out for them, but I think that they feel comfortable and they have to have George Kittle on a pitch count right now.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: They need to slowly work him and he's not ready for full snaps and that's why when people talk about them maybe investing in a tie-in at some point, that's still a realistic possibility if they don't get the play out of Brighton, we'll us if they're hoping to get.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: I like that.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: Ed Dale, my man, appreciate you buddy of the super chat.
- 37:09[SPEAKER_02]: He says, he says, hey, no, on are we really scared to will us?
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: No, the one area that is like, okay, so whenever I used to scout for our teams, I would have to answer a week before Brett, how could this team beat us, right?
- 37:24[SPEAKER_02]: Like, that's the question.
- 37:26[SPEAKER_02]: So like, what is the weakness?
- 37:28[SPEAKER_02]: What are they so good at that we have to make sure we pay attention to and it's their speed because Devon Hain and Malik Willis are crazy crazy quick mobile.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_02]: They are fast.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, if I had to script out like, okay, how do the dolphins beat?
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: this team, what's that going to look like?
- 37:47[SPEAKER_02]: The milk willus has got a scramble for 50 plus yards, the Dev and A chains going to rush for 100 plus yards, they're going to keep it close, a couple turnovers, things like that.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_02]: So if you can take away what the dolphins have to do to win, namely, milk willus scrambling for first downs, that's what you do.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_02]: So it's not so much like, oh, I'm scared or whatever else.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_02]: Mobile quarterbacks have given this 49ers team some problems.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_02]: that is there.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, that's kind of how would you assess the milk willus and what that looks like?
- 38:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, you look at their strengths, right?
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be some sort of like, you know, the different of read options and things like that, where they can try to get the defense flowing away and then be able to attack their perimeter.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_01]: This team wants to attack the perimeter.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_01]: They're not built like the Rams where they can go right at you right in the middle of the field.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: They want to do that eventually.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_01]: That's why they drafted Kate and Proctor, but they're not there yet.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: So right now, everything wants to be out on the edge.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_01]: And Malik Willis moving is a very important for them.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Get, get plays, go in one way with the one 18, get your attention going that way.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then kind of get him booting out.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_01]: That's what they're looking for.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to make you stand pad.
- 38:53[SPEAKER_01]: They don't want you crashing down the line.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to hold you.
- 38:55[SPEAKER_01]: to create extra run lanes for this running game.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_01]: So that is the main objective for this team.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: They're built on speed.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, they got Malik Washington as well.
- 39:03[SPEAKER_01]: This, this is kind of what they're trying to do is get some speed out there.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: And some of that is still a holdover from Mike McDaniel, which was all, all NASCAR, all speed, all the time.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that they're still got some of that.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to eventually get grimy because you have a defensive coordinator as a head coach.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: And he's going to want to control the clock and move the ball.
- 39:20[SPEAKER_01]: But they're not
- 39:25[SPEAKER_01]: The quarterback and once they do I think they'll be okay him ageing hold them under wraps, and I think you'll be okay But you're not worried about the quarterback.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's just that is the focus of that offense So you need to make sure you do a good job of slowing them down.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, I love it.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_02]: And Tell goes on to say man John.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_02]: Where's that bottle of angels man?
- 39:43[SPEAKER_02]: So we moved to Emoryville There's a Japanese market across street.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_02]: They don't have it there.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_02]: I went there to get it after your super chat and then we flew to Australia We came back.
- 39:52[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: get outside of the place to go to another spot to get that.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: So the bottle of angels in the is on its way, my friend.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: But I don't have it yet.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_02]: I'm so sorry.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_02]: But it's happening.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's happening.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, look at this.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_02]: We got Josh 40 hours faithful forever.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_02]: 90.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: We are going to be doing our
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: 49ers scouting report episode, which Josh highlights, that's coming to the next couple of days.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: So stay tuned for that.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you, Dale.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: You're the freaking man.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_02]: All right, so one of the things that I want to talk about Malcolm McKinney, because, again, my concerns with the 49ers defense,
- 40:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know about that defensive tackle rotation start stopping the run early on.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think Malcolm McKinney gets some snaps?
- 40:39[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think he is going to be a guy that actually gets out there and gets some play in time to help stop the run because you don't really have that guy in the room outside of OSA.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think when you look at the team and you know, this is something I brought up during the week is the difference.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_01]: I did think that we're going to sign McKinley Jackson as soon as he kind of worked out Before Australia and then you had the injury out for a call and it's like, yeah, this guy is going to be with the 49ers because he's different right they they lost price in East and who was this type of player.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_01]: The big you know, two eye one tech run stopping guy they tried to have an Anderson in the past that didn't work.
- 41:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you look at this team and it's basically a bunch of three texts.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: No matter what you think about James Thompson, he's huge.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_01]: He plays like a three tech right now.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_01]: He's a penetrator.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_01]: He's a disruptor.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's not a guy that holds ground.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_01]: The only guy that they really have right now that can do that is McKinley Jackson, even on their practice squad when you look at it.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, even the guy they worked out in Larry Ogonjobi is still more of a three tech than he is a run stopper.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 41:37[SPEAKER_01]: This is a guy that they desperately need.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I don't know if he's going to be a guy they've are going to be ready to elevate right now.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_01]: They could do that with some of the moves they've made, bringing a Darrell Hodgup and and already moving up, Brandon Willis, they have the freedom to do that.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_01]: They don't have to elevate some of those other guys anymore.
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: So I do think that he could have an opportunity.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_01]: I would love to see what he could do, stopping the run.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that way,
- 42:00[SPEAKER_01]: James Thompson, Jr., kind of becomes more that fifth guy, more that rotational guy that you can use on obvious pass downs.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they want Grace and Holden, they're the most OSA Digi-Zua, but I would love to see 10 to 15 staff from McKinley Jackson if they felt he was ready, but how long is it going to take for him to get accustomed to Chris Kassarik's defense?
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: It might not be this week, because I do believe that the 49ers feel like they can stop Devon Hane in that Miami Dolphins offense without having a big run grade stopping defensive tackle
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm curious to see who they're going to elevate.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_02]: Technically, Ocaronquo was still on the practice squad.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_02]: So that's one, and then like, man, where do you go after that?
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you've got...
- 42:43[SPEAKER_02]: handful of guys Kevin Givens we we just talked about McKinley Jackson Khalil Dinkens and do you want the act like I don't know what they're going to do there but what do you think about Jordan Walkins you know if John Lynch on K&B are this morning said it's time for Jacob Coward and Jordan Walkins to step up Jordan Walkins was a healthy scratch last week you talked about Jake Coward and played like six naps
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: who gets more reps and the wide receiver room, not talking special teams, just wide receiver rotation, will we see either of those guys?
- 43:13[SPEAKER_02]: Or is it just got to be a heavy four-man rotation?
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know a John Lynch said about Jordan walk-in.
- 43:20[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that Jordan walk-ins is going to play.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be a healthy scratch again.
- 43:24[SPEAKER_01]: The Darryl Hodge gives you so much more value.
- 43:26[SPEAKER_01]: And let's not forget, Kyle Shanian last year, he was like, no, we're not going to
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: Turner.
- 43:33[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, and could there a hodge is a better wide receiver than the league Turner at this point?
- 43:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Darryl Hodge can do the job.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_01]: They had them in on one play.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_01]: Was it really a lot of offense from the Darryl Hodge last week?
- 43:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I think they feel comfortable with who's up there ahead.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think Jacob Cowling is the next guy up just looking at what they did last week.
- 43:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that he will have a few opportunities.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_01]: They'll probably try to scheme some things vertically down the field.
- 43:56[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe a screen pass here or there.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: But make no mistake.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_01]: They're going to lean on Mike Evans, Debo Samuel, and to Marcus Robinson.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: These guys are going to be the focus until Christian Kurt comes back week five, and I think that that's how they're going to roll.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: So do I think that he's imploring Jordan Watkins to do something?
- 44:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, but I think he's talking more about practice.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, this is your time to step up and show us what you got win in practice, so we can play you.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_01]: over Kadero Hodge, but he's no, he doesn't help you blocking, he doesn't help you on special teams at all.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: So there's no, there's not as much value as Jacob Cowling, who helps you as a punt and kick returner and Kadero Hodge, who's one of the better special teams players on the team, if not in the league.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I just, I don't see a lot of options for Jordan walkins right now.
- 44:37[SPEAKER_02]: Like in the thing, it's like he's the worst blocker I've ever seen in a Kyle Shanahan offense.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_02]: That makes it hard.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_02]: He can run the crossers, he can run the drag, he can run the digs, he can do the inbreakers, he can
- 44:48[SPEAKER_02]: It's just what else can you do and that's the problem.
- 44:50[SPEAKER_02]: And so like man, again, 65 offensive snaps here was the wide receiver snap a lot meant last week Mike Evans played 49 to Marcus Robinson played 41.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_02]: Debo played 27.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_02]: So something's got to give either those three guys all take 10 extra snaps a game with Jacob Cowan and Kadero Hodg getting more snaps like somebody's
- 45:16[SPEAKER_02]: If not everybody's snap rate has to go up to Sean Stripline was leaving the wide receivers and snaps before he got injured.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_02]: He had 21 snaps.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_01]: Who do you see the the increase is it all across the board?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody getting more.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they go Mike Evans with more.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think that they'll probably try to keep him the same way.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: They've got to have like a little bit of a pitch count for him.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: They're trying to make sure longevity-wise.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think Tomarkis Robinson is built for this.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: He could play the same amount or a little bit more debo.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: You could throw in an extra six snaps.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: And then you throw in a five or six snaps, four-can-air-all-hodge.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: and for Jacob County.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think you kind of just spread it across the board.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: That way, it's not too much on anybody.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: But you don't want to go too much with Mike Evans.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I kind of like Debo kind of in that 30 snap range.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: He continues to look explosive and he's got the unique ability to be that wide back again.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: We saw the nice 12 yard run that he had in the game.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: And he looked really good out there.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: So I kind of like that number.
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: So it is, I mean, Jacob Cowling doesn't have to step up in the five or six extra snaps that he gets caderal hodge the same thing.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the thing about caderal hodge, he'll go out there and knock your block off the guys' physical.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: So they can put a minutes and run situations and also have some situations where they're not going to be afraid to throw in the ball.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: In precinct, caderal hodge was he's fine and he played all three wide receiver spots.
- 46:35[SPEAKER_02]: exactly plays them all.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, curious to see how that's going to go, man.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be fun.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I don't want to cut you to shore in.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything on your notes?
- 46:45[SPEAKER_02]: I can't to private the people.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is there anything on your notes?
- 46:47[SPEAKER_02]: We have not gotten to yet because I want all the nuggets of wisdom.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: I will just say this.
- 46:53[SPEAKER_01]: This week, the 49ers are really playing with a complimentary football mentality.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: You can see it from the coaching staff and the way that the players are out there playing.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: Special teams is going to be a huge reason why the 49ers beat the Miami Dolphins this week.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_01]: That Brat Boyer unit.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: They've invested in players.
- 47:10[SPEAKER_01]: But they've invested in a coach that knows what the heck he's doing and he gets guys out there in the right spot and you can see them get coached up there they're they're flying around they're making plays and the Miami Dolphins aren't there yet the Miami Dolphins are number 27 DVOA special teams in the NFL and I was surprised it wasn't 32 with how bad they played against Las Vegas last week.
- 47:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think they'll be a little bit better, but I think the 49ers are going to be one of the best special teams units all year.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that that's really going to help this football team.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_01]: So that is kind of one of the areas on focus on never gets attention.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: Special teams never gets attention, but I'm telling you, this special team's unit is going to help with field position on offense, getting in plus field position.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think on defense is going to pin them back a little bit.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: Our special teams help the defense out.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's going to be a big part of this game.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: Field position matters and it's going to matter in this one.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_02]: The hidden yards.
- 47:58[SPEAKER_02]: The hit in yards, they change everything, and who would have thought Kyle Shanahan coach 49ers team with the top special teams unit.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_02]: Dangerous.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_02]: Dangerous.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_02]: Sean want to say thank you man.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_02]: He says see you in Atlanta again with my family John just purchased my rush route rush road trip tickets love it love it love it.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_02]: And if you are going to any of the 49ers away games We are going to be in Seattle.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be in Atlanta.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to be in Dallas, Mexico City Los Angeles.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: Get your tickets 49ers rush road trip calm kids are free to every event.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_02]: We will ever host.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: We throw two events every city
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad I got a little bit of a break, man.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_02]: And you're going to lie to our next events and Seattle three weeks away.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_02]: But anyway, that's where it is.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_02]: And I just want to say thank you.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_02]: The 49er space is not the same without you.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_02]: I am Wiser after I talk to you.
- 48:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I know the fans love this show.
- 48:53[SPEAKER_02]: So welcome back to the Coach Approach.
- 48:55[SPEAKER_02]: Anything before we jump out of here, my friend.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_01]: No, just really good talking to you again, John, you know, getting out here and talking X and those I always I always enjoy it's one of my favorite shows that I do because Hey, we get into it.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: We get into the X and those and we have such an intelligent fan base and they know what they're talking about so they ask really good questions and
- 49:13[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, it's fun conversation.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: These are things we used to do all the time, right?
- 49:16[SPEAKER_01]: I sit around.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: You talk ball coaching staff.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: You talk ball.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: I got a friend.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's still coach at high school.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's all he wants to talk talk about when I see him is his team and everything.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I love it.
- 49:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's great.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm glad to be back and looking forward to the season of the coach approach.
- 49:30[SPEAKER_02]: Ah, I'm pumped.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_02]: Thursdays, 10 a.m. Pacific time.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be awesome.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to do it for us today.
- 49:36[SPEAKER_02]: You guys are the best of the best and until next time.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: Stay strong, faithful.
