- 0:07Welcome back to the Simply Christ podcast hosted by Leon
- 0:10Martin, along with Aaron Keaton, Melvin Martin, Andrew Schrock
- 0:14and Dan Blatz. Let's get right to it.
- 0:18Before we get started, I'll open up with a word of prayer.
- 0:21God, thank you for this day. Thank you for your word.
- 0:24Thank you for the Holy Spirit and God.
- 0:27Thank you for your gift of life through your Son Jesus and God.
- 0:33We look to you tonight that you would open our ears, our hearts,
- 0:36our minds to the truth, that we could teach it accurately and
- 0:40that our hearers could be edified and that they could
- 0:44learn of you, God, because like we were discussing before we
- 0:49started, our victory lies in you, not our will power.
- 0:54And that we thank you God, because left to ourselves, we
- 0:57would be in dire straits. God, we thank you.
- 1:00We praise you for your goodness in Jesus name, Amen.
- 1:04Amen. I had to think about, you know,
- 1:09dealing with sin or whatever Jesus said when he was accused
- 1:13of being A and this kind of goes back out.
- 1:17Jesus said it when he was accused of being a devil or
- 1:19devil possessed or whatever. He said that you know what the
- 1:23devil can cast out a devil, you know, and that's how our how our
- 1:27flesh is. It's hard for us to deal with
- 1:30the flesh can't deal with the deeds of the flesh doesn't work.
- 1:32The Spirit does. So anyway, Colossians, and we're
- 1:37actually going to be talking about some of this stuff here
- 1:40through the text, but verse 28 is where we're going to start.
- 1:43Chapter one, verse 28, we're going to start off there.
- 1:47At. That says whom we preach,
- 1:51warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we
- 1:54may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
- 2:00Whereunto I also labor, striving according to his working, which
- 2:04worketh in me mightily. I'm going to put those two
- 2:06together. You can take whatever part of it
- 2:08you want to comment on, but this comes on the heels of him.
- 2:15Last week we discussed quite a bit about the dispensation.
- 2:20He calls it multiple places a a mystery.
- 2:29So this this dispensation, this this the presence of God living
- 2:34inside of us, God living inside of us in in us.
- 2:37The Holy Spirit living in US is a new concept in the
- 2:41dispensation of grace. And he was talking about how
- 2:44that he made this known, made it manifest to the believers.
- 2:50This is what he's talking about here.
- 2:52That's the context that we're in.
- 2:55So in verse 27, he says to whom God would make known what is the
- 2:59riches of the glory of this mystery to the Gentile among the
- 3:03Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- 3:06And now he's saying whom we preach, warning every man and
- 3:09teaching every man in all wisdom that we may present every man
- 3:13perfect in Christ Jesus. And I just had to think, and
- 3:16I'll turn it over to you, Dan, but that we may present every
- 3:20man perfect and cry. That is a bold statement.
- 3:25He's saying that we might present.
- 3:27I don't know. How do you how do you parse
- 3:28that? I just I was, I just saw that
- 3:30and I, I was like, man, that's something.
- 3:33Go ahead. First of all I'd like to ask, is
- 3:35there a ticking sound at all? I have electric shocker outside
- 3:38the other day I heard it on my recording.
- 3:40You guys don't hear a ticking? OK, I do not.
- 3:42Perfect. Yes, I the first word of this
- 3:46verse is of utmost importance to me.
- 3:50Or sorry, the yeah, the first word whom we preach.
- 3:55And I really like that because many people preach a gospel,
- 3:58they preach a message, they preach principles, they preach
- 4:02death and resurrection, They preach all kinds of things.
- 4:06But sometimes they can fail to preach the whom and recognizing
- 4:11that it, it is a message that we preach, but we're delivering a
- 4:15person, we're delivering the the Lord Christ Jesus in our
- 4:19messaging. It is him that we preach.
- 4:21And in the book, throughout the book of Acts, you can see that
- 4:24they went everywhere preaching Jesus or preaching the
- 4:27resurrection. And so be careful when you
- 4:30preach, when you share the gospel with somebody, when you
- 4:33even are just witnessing to your coworkers that you're not
- 4:36preaching a formula, that you're not preaching 7 steps to
- 4:40salvation, that you're not preaching.
- 4:43And he'll come to church and God will do the rest or do your best
- 4:46and God will fix it the rest. You know that kind of thing.
- 4:49Preach a man, preach what he has done.
- 4:52And it's, it's when people understand and know whom God has
- 4:57given to us. And when you hear the message of
- 5:00that man, the Lord Jesus Christ, that the Spirit of God comes
- 5:04into you and he makes himself known to you and he dwells
- 5:07within you. And that's that hope of glory
- 5:09that we have, right? But along with preaching the
- 5:12man, preaching him also we have these warnings that we
- 5:17participate in. We warn every man and we teach
- 5:20every man in all wisdom. Now in the book of First
- 5:24Corinthians chapter 1 and 2, Paul makes a really big argument
- 5:27about the wisdom of God being actually, he says that the
- 5:31foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of man.
- 5:36And so God in his foolishness, which is actually wisdom used a
- 5:41method and a person that the world kind of scoffs at that the
- 5:45Jews stumble at and this man is on is made unto us wisdom and
- 5:51righteousness and sanctification.
- 5:53And so here it says we warn every man and teach every man in
- 5:58all wisdom. So even when you're presenting
- 6:01warnings to Christians, even when you're presenting wisdom to
- 6:04Christians, even those things are found in Christ.
- 6:08The wisdom that we have in Christ is in Christ.
- 6:11It is only in him that we find this.
- 6:14And so the, the part about presenting every man perfect is
- 6:18like a, a deep burden that the apostle Paul seems to have on
- 6:22him. And I, I don't know if like I
- 6:24think I can understand your almost your dilemma or a bit of
- 6:27a conflict almost in our teaching, because on one hand,
- 6:31the moment they believe the gospel, we've already seen in
- 6:34verse 18, I believe it was or somewhere in that range. 20 that
- 6:38we are presented by the Lord Jesus to the Father as holy and
- 6:43unblameable and unreprovable in his sight.
- 6:46So through the death, burial and resurrection of Christ, we are
- 6:48made holy, unblameable and unreprovable.
- 6:51So why is Paul now laboring and working and trying hard to make
- 6:56sure that he presents every man perfect in Christ Jesus?
- 7:02There is a walk to the faith that we have.
- 7:05I don't think I have the full deep answer here perhaps that
- 7:08maybe some people will be looking for.
- 7:10But Paul says it again in 2nd Corinthians 5 that he was
- 7:13constrained by the love of God. Knowing the terror of the Lord,
- 7:17he says we persuade men. And then he says it is the love
- 7:20of God that constraineth us, because we thus judge that if
- 7:23one died for all, then we're all dead.
- 7:26And so now he wants us all to continue.
- 7:28And I guess this flies in the face of this concept of the,
- 7:33the, the Baptist doctrine of one saved always say, like, say a
- 7:36prayer when you're 6 years old, walk down the aisle and then
- 7:39you're good to go like this. This passage seems to indicate
- 7:42that Paul went everywhere preaching the gospel.
- 7:45And then those that he had preached the gospel to, he would
- 7:47warn them and he would teach them and try to present every
- 7:51one of them as a stable, mature, helpful Christian that's
- 7:55actually contributing to the body like every joint is
- 7:58supplying. And that was his goal and his
- 8:00desire for the church, that it wouldn't be just a, a quick
- 8:04conversion on a, you know, a revival meeting or at a special
- 8:08meeting and then you go on about your life.
- 8:10But rather there's this continual walk and faithfulness,
- 8:14not leaving the simplicity of the gospel and moving on to
- 8:18workspace or principle based Christianity, but a continuing
- 8:22on in that and walking according walk worthy of the calling
- 8:26wherewith we are called. So there's a lot of verses that
- 8:28come to mind as you start thinking this way.
- 8:30It isn't a relaxed casual Christianity.
- 8:34There is some real devotion required, but it's not like you
- 8:38better be holy or else God tosses you out.
- 8:40Like there's this really beautiful balance, right?
- 8:42So I'm sure Aaron or Andrew's got some some ways to correct me
- 8:46there or to add to that. Yeah, I have some thoughts on it
- 8:50a little bit too. But go ahead, Andrew, with what
- 8:52you're thinking and, and or, or the whole verse or whatever, go
- 8:55from there. Yeah, it it, it can throw you.
- 9:02It's like a little bit of a curveball if you don't follow
- 9:05the story. So first of all, he started out
- 9:09in chapter 1 talking about the wisdom of God and that he prays
- 9:14nonstop that we would grow in in spiritual wisdom and
- 9:18understanding. And then he tells us the
- 9:20completion of the work of Christ so thoroughly, like Dan was
- 9:24saying, where we're unblameable and unreprovable in his sight.
- 9:29And the people that he preaches to and warns is to keep them
- 9:36established in that faith. So if you believe the gospel
- 9:41according to what Paul is teaching here, the finished work
- 9:45refuses Christ where you're blame unblameable and
- 9:47unreprovable on his side. If you believe that gospel,
- 9:51that's perfection. Like that means you believe
- 9:55everything that Christ did and you're going with it, which is
- 9:57perfect, right? Like that's great.
- 10:00The reason I believe it's more that way is because of how he
- 10:04starts warning us. He in the next very next
- 10:09chapter, he's going to tell us, OK, I say all these things to
- 10:12tell you this. Don't start keeping some of
- 10:15these laws. Don't get enticed with
- 10:18traditions of men, philosophy vain, deceived after tradition,
- 10:22after the traditions of men and not after Christ.
- 10:26Now it's no longer perfect. It anything that all of a sudden
- 10:29is after the law is no longer pure.
- 10:32It's no longer presenting every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
- 10:35There's a problem you're saying you're it's not perfected in
- 10:39Christ. You're not perfected forever
- 10:41them that are sanctified. Jesus is not everything that he
- 10:45just got done saying yes. So he's saying, I think he's
- 10:48saying it's a, it's a, a big job to keep warning and telling
- 10:54people to stay in the faith and not start with their own works
- 10:58again or put confidence in the flesh.
- 11:01And another thing that that makes me think that is about he
- 11:06just slipped in that this dispensation of grace.
- 11:09So Jesus before he died, he participated in the Sabbath
- 11:13days. He participated in a lot of the
- 11:15Passover stuff, all that stuff he participated in.
- 11:19So it's a, makes a big argument for everybody to say, well,
- 11:22Jesus still did all that. So of course he still wants us
- 11:24to do all that. But it was Jesus Christ after he
- 11:27was risen from the dead that revealed the Gospel and the
- 11:31dispensation of grace to Paul after he was risen from the
- 11:34dead. And that's when everything
- 11:36changed. That's when the new dispensation
- 11:38I believe started was when he rose from the dead.
- 11:41And that's when he changed his tune.
- 11:44It was no longer, He was no longer coming and telling or
- 11:47talking about what you have to do in order to get him to the
- 11:49Kingdom of heaven. He was now talking about
- 11:53redemption because the redemption has been made.
- 11:56Blood in the real temple has been sprinkled, the offering
- 12:00that was required has been accomplished, and now he's
- 12:05presenting Saints perfect in himself.
- 12:09And I think he's warning us and every man to not walk away from
- 12:15that because that power, that that gospel that we believe
- 12:18works in him mightily. It works.
- 12:23So don't move away from it. Yeah, that's good.
- 12:27And but this, this is kind of the way I understood it too, you
- 12:31know, is he says whereunto I also labor there in verse 29.
- 12:37So he's saying that he is laboring that he may present
- 12:43every man perfect in Christ Jesus.
- 12:46So what was he laboring for? To get people into Christ Jesus,
- 12:52right, whereby they get their perfection.
- 12:56So, yeah, I mean, I agree with you, Dan.
- 12:59There's there's definitely, I mean, yeah, if you don't see
- 13:04some kind of a change in somebody, you know, I, I guess
- 13:07you'd probably have reason to question whether they're
- 13:10believers believing or not or whatever.
- 13:12I mean, you can use that fruit thing or whatever, but right
- 13:16here his his labor, I believe is to present people perfect in
- 13:24Christ Jesus. Yeah.
- 13:28You know, if you if you look at the text, like if you get, if
- 13:30you get real critical with the text that it he is, he is
- 13:33laboring that he may present every man perfect in Christ
- 13:38Jesus, not laboring to keep them walking in perfection.
- 13:43Yeah. I mean, I don't know, maybe
- 13:45that's an end. Maybe that's.
- 13:48That's where I was trying to go with it because.
- 13:52Is the every man there? Sorry, is the every man there
- 13:55not Christians then? I would say it's believers and
- 14:02non believers all together. It's just it's a very broad
- 14:07statement. The the only way you're going to
- 14:11be presented perfect is if you believe the gospel.
- 14:14You just got done sharing. Yeah.
- 14:16So it's a challenge and he's constantly wanting and working
- 14:20and striving to keep people to just believe the gospel, to
- 14:25believe Christ, whether it's a safe person or unsafe.
- 14:28You, you want them to believe the gospel, not you're not
- 14:33trying to get them to get their life together as much as you're
- 14:36trying to get them to believe the gospel that works in him
- 14:39mightily. Like if you, Dan, you know as
- 14:42well as anybody that when you believe the gospel, it changes
- 14:46you, you will be different. And maybe it means some of that
- 14:51too. It could very well.
- 14:55But just the fact of what he said before and then what he
- 14:58says after makes me think more along what Leon was saying.
- 15:02Yeah, because he goes on then warning them.
- 15:06Yeah, I was going to say let's let's continue in the text.
- 15:09I think that might even become apparent kind of as we go there.
- 15:14OK, Chapter 2, verse one for I would that ye knew what great
- 15:23conflict I have for you and for them at Laodicea and for as many
- 15:28as have not seen my face in the flesh.
- 15:31And I don't know if there's a whole lot to come in on that
- 15:36verse, Dan, if you if there's anything you want.
- 15:38I know it's kind of hooked together with verse 2, but
- 15:42Laodicea was a city or town, right by Colossi, I guess.
- 15:48And if you look in I was, I was trying to figure out why This is
- 15:53why Laodicea because I thought this was written to Colossi,
- 15:55right? The Saints, the believers at
- 15:57Colossi. But in chapter 4, verse 16, he
- 16:01entreats the people there to read this also in the Church of
- 16:05the Laodiceans. Right.
- 16:08So and then I was Googling a little bit and that was they
- 16:10were two towns that were kind of close together or almost
- 16:15together or something like that. So yeah, any other commenting on
- 16:18that? Yeah, I like back to the
- 16:22previous passage there, and that does definitely extend into this
- 16:25portion here as well, that the labor that he was worth, that
- 16:29was working in him mightily was the the labor of the gospel that
- 16:33God was working in him. And I, I've definitely had times
- 16:37when I'm trying to keep up with the work that God is doing in my
- 16:41life, trying to minister the gospel in a way that is being
- 16:44revealed to me or that is true to me, right?
- 16:47And there's other times when I, I lack that same drive that the
- 16:50apostle had, right? Where he's like, I'm just trying
- 16:53to keep up with the work that God is doing in my heart.
- 16:55And he's, he's working in me mightily.
- 16:57And I'm laboring to present every man because of that.
- 17:01But yeah, here he continues and expands on that.
- 17:03What does that mean, this labor that you have?
- 17:06He said. I had great conflict for you and
- 17:08for them at Laodicea, and for as many as I've not seen my face in
- 17:12the flesh, He had this great desire.
- 17:14Did you read just verse one? I did, I did because verse 2 I
- 17:18will test spent a little time on.
- 17:19Yeah, yeah. So many of the churches were
- 17:21established as a direct result of the Apostle Paul's work, but
- 17:25this church, as well as the Laodiceans, all the sounds of
- 17:28it, were not. They were churches that had been
- 17:30started perhaps through apophoditis or some other person
- 17:34that that had done work through the apostle Paul or under the
- 17:37apostle Paul or some other apostle all together.
- 17:40But Paul said at the end of chapter one that he was striving
- 17:42to keep up with the working of God on a working in him because
- 17:47he had this great conflict for them.
- 17:49And then he's going to expand on what that conflict looks like.
- 17:54Yeah, it wasn't in in Revelation, is it?
- 17:56I was good. I was checking it on my Bible
- 17:58app real quick, but it wasn't lace.
- 17:59Laodicea was at the church. That was lukewarm, I think.
- 18:03Yeah. So, you know, they were already
- 18:06needing instruction here, obviously.
- 18:09But anyway, Andrew. Yeah, I would say he's
- 18:13explaining the verses we just went through more like he's just
- 18:18telling us what he means about warning every man and teaching
- 18:23every man in all wisdom. And he's going to explain it
- 18:27more in the very next verse. And I think Dan did a good job,
- 18:30but I'm not going to say much to that.
- 18:31I just think it's yeah, he's progressing and he wishes he
- 18:34would therapy there in the flesh in a certain extent just like
- 18:37tell him straight up. I did think of Galatians one
- 18:42where he says that he's surprised how soon they removed
- 18:46from the gospel to another gospel.
- 18:49So there you can vary black and white.
- 18:50See the striving, the heavyweight, the compassion that
- 18:54Paul has for people that he preached this gospel that
- 18:59presents you blame was that that works that works mightily and
- 19:04you get off of it as quick as the idea of circumcision and you
- 19:09get so upset in Galatians that if you know what if you're
- 19:12circumcised, Christ provides you zero.
- 19:16I mean that tells the kind of the words going with this I
- 19:19would say. Would you guys say with this
- 19:22present every man perfect in Christ Jesus thought throughout
- 19:26the book of Hebrews. We talked about this repeatedly
- 19:29that there's warning after warning after warning.
- 19:31Stay in the faith, continue believing, stay firm unto the
- 19:34end. Do you know if you depart from
- 19:37Christ there's no hope for you that kind of warning that kind
- 19:40of teaching the the idea is that you are perfect in Christ Jesus
- 19:45and I want to present you that way on the day of Christ Jesus
- 19:48like you want to continue holding fast, continue standing
- 19:51firm. Is that kind of the type of
- 19:54striving and laboring to present every man that you're talking
- 19:57about? That's what I'm talking about.
- 20:00Yeah. It's talking about keeping
- 20:02people in the faith, in the pure faith, in the pure gospel.
- 20:06It's not getting sidetracked by messianic Jewish doctrines, what
- 20:11he calls them, doctrines of devils, and other passages where
- 20:14they try to bring in touch, not taste, not handle, not food like
- 20:18rudiments of the world. And they say, well, that what
- 20:21he's saying is what that does, it takes away from the
- 20:24confidence of the hope that we have in Christ Jesus.
- 20:29And it does. Obviously experience will tell
- 20:31you that that it does. And he will tell us later.
- 20:36I think in this book also that if you're worried about the sin
- 20:39issue, if believe in the gospel doesn't change your life as far
- 20:43as a Sinner, which is what a lot of people like to focus on, then
- 20:48we can go to verses that deal with sin.
- 20:50I don't think he's talking about sin here in the in the which it
- 20:54is sin to go after another gospel.
- 20:56I'm not saying it's not, but I think he's not talking about
- 20:59lust or in a way like, Oh, you looked at pornography today.
- 21:03So you you need to strive. And that's not Paul wasn't
- 21:07trying to battle pornography here.
- 21:10He's he's battling people believing in other things to
- 21:15perfect the word of Christ or they're, they can't just trust
- 21:19and walk in Christ. I think like, yeah, like
- 21:21Hebrews, I would say. Yeah, that would, that's really
- 21:25good. Then I, I appreciate that
- 21:27question. I think that question actually
- 21:28clarifies kind of what we're talking about here now because
- 21:32what good is faith if you discontinue it?
- 21:36You know you're you're you're going to want that faith when
- 21:39you stand in front of the judgement seat, don't you?
- 21:43That you know, what good is it going to have done you if if at
- 21:45the end you still fail. So yeah, that's definitely where
- 21:48we want to be. OK I'm going to mute brat
- 21:55Andrew. I got some your noise coming
- 21:57through there. Verse 2.
- 22:00For their hearts might be comforted, being knit together
- 22:06in love, and unto all riches, of the full assurance of
- 22:09understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery
- 22:12of God, and of the Father, and of Christ, in whom are hid all
- 22:17the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
- 22:19And this, this I like. This is really good.
- 22:22I think this is so good because he is striving.
- 22:26His labor is that their hearts might be comforted, and that
- 22:34they might be knit together in love and unto all riches of the
- 22:40full assurance of understanding. Doesn't this go back right to
- 22:44chapter 1? We were right when He started
- 22:47into it. One of His things was in verse
- 22:509. He said that he does not cease
- 22:53to pray for you and to desire that ye might be filled with the
- 22:58knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
- 23:02understanding. So I mean that I loved it.
- 23:05This is really good. And he, so he's consistent with
- 23:07the theme right here. It looks like to me, he, he
- 23:11really wants people to understand this, this
- 23:16dispensation of grace that he is explaining here.
- 23:19That's what he's after, isn't he?
- 23:21Yeah, I'm, I'm reminded right away for some reason of the
- 23:24Church of God. We've got a Church of God here
- 23:26in the in the area and their pride themselves on their
- 23:30uniformity and how they all look the same, they all dress the
- 23:33same, they do their business the same.
- 23:34And the apostle Paul wasn't striving mightily to make sure
- 23:38that the church would all look and act the same way.
- 23:41You know, he had a much, much higher aim and goal.
- 23:44And that comes out here very clearly that their hearts might
- 23:47be comforted. Your heart is not comforted by
- 23:49your external performances. Your heart is comforted by a
- 23:53truth that Christ is in you, and that is the hope of glory, and
- 23:56that because of that, Andrew and I have that same hope of glory.
- 24:00Leon and I have that same hope of glory.
- 24:03So then our hearts can be knit together in love because you too
- 24:07have that seed of eternal life within you.
- 24:10And then that full assurance of understanding, whereas external
- 24:14religious duty and pressure to perform to meet the certain this
- 24:19the certain, what's the word denominational standards of each
- 24:24church or each sect of church like that doesn't give assurance
- 24:29of understanding. It usually robs it because I'm
- 24:32not quite measuring up. I'm not as good as preacher.
- 24:34So and so, you know, I, I haven't quite been as zealous as
- 24:38I ought to have been, But he wants our hearts comforted and
- 24:41he wants complete, absolute, utter assurance in our heart of
- 24:46the mystery of God, acknowledging that great mystery
- 24:49that God was manifest in the flesh, took our sins upon
- 24:52himself and made us perfect, and that we would stand firm in that
- 24:56perfection in that gospel. So the conflict he had for us is
- 25:00I'm striving, I'm fighting, I'm working hard.
- 25:03Why? I want your heart to be
- 25:05comforted. You want me to be comforted?
- 25:07Yeah, 'cause I want you to have an assurance of your salvation
- 25:09and that it would continue in Christ only and nothing else.
- 25:13So that gives me confidence in the work of God.
- 25:16Paul worked hard to make sure that people would trust in God's
- 25:20work, you know, And that's, that's a beautiful thing, I
- 25:23think. Well, couldn't be said any
- 25:25better right there. That's rich, I'm telling.
- 25:29Made me think while you were talking there, Dan Ephesians, 43
- 25:32says, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit.
- 25:36That's what he's after, you know, makes the, the unity of
- 25:39dress look so shallow and insignificant in the in the
- 25:43whole picture, Andrew. Am I on mood?
- 25:47Yes, I will be legit. Yep.
- 25:49So yeah, this is absolutely glorious.
- 25:53If if you can read this and not get fired up, look at what he
- 26:02says. Being knit together in love, not
- 26:05law, Love unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding.
- 26:13You know the fastest way to doubt is to look to yourself and
- 26:18your record of how you've done in the past.
- 26:22What should I do today? How did how did I do this last
- 26:27week? Did I keep the Sabbath day the
- 26:31way I should have? Man, I ate a hot dog, but I feel
- 26:37like there was some pork in it. I I'm a little guilty about it.
- 26:43I know that it does quite see this is where he's going with
- 26:46this. The people who were doing touch
- 26:48not taste not handle not and he said if you do this, you're
- 26:53spoiling the gospel. He says the word a man spoil you
- 26:59through philosophy. So that's no longer presenting
- 27:02every man perfect. It's a spoiled gospel, which is
- 27:06not a gospel. And I'm telling you, the gospel
- 27:09of Jesus Christ will knit your hearts together in love.
- 27:13And if you're unsure, unsettled, unstable, you're tossed to and
- 27:19fro by every wind of doctrine, it might be you need to look
- 27:23into the doctrine of Jesus Christ and just get to Him.
- 27:27Amen. That's good stuff.
- 27:29And and it goes exactly in verse 3.
- 27:31You know, I read that too. And I don't know if you want to
- 27:33comment on anything there, but in whom?
- 27:36What is it talking about? Wait a minute, who's in whom end
- 27:40of Christ? In whom are he at all the
- 27:42treasures of knowledge? So he's talking about that.
- 27:46His labor of his labor is to get us perfect in Christ Jesus,
- 27:51right? That's what we were talking
- 27:52about and part of the reason that he wants us in Christ Jesus
- 27:56is that is where all these things reside.
- 28:00Love the riches of his full assurance, the acknowledgement,
- 28:04the mystery that's all in there in whom are hid all the
- 28:08treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
- 28:11That's where it's at boys, boys and girls at that is where it's
- 28:14at that's. Yeah, you can't.
- 28:16You can't have a law without having guilt.
- 28:18You can't believe in a principle and have a conviction about some
- 28:22principle without having guilt to a certain extent, a little
- 28:29bit of condemnation. I've had people say, well, I'm
- 28:33really convicted about this doctrine.
- 28:35And it was about a law. It was like a Sabbath day.
- 28:38I I'm just genuinely convicted and I'm trying to shake it, but
- 28:42I'm just really convicted, you know, and I just like for us to
- 28:46picture ourselves for the day of judgement.
- 28:49And God was going to say, look, you believed on me, but not
- 28:56completely why? So I was just so convicted.
- 29:02My conscience just wouldn't allow me not to keep the Sabbath
- 29:05day. I was just so convicted about
- 29:07it. Then what if God then says, but
- 29:10didn't you read where I said people that do that and teach
- 29:14those things, their conscience is defiled.
- 29:17Did you read that part like maybe you're being guilty or
- 29:22convicted about something that is doesn't need to be because
- 29:25you've been defiled because you're believing a lie.
- 29:30So I think that's where Paul is going with this.
- 29:34True freedom, full assurance and confidence has to be separate
- 29:38from us. Now, what is good and powerful
- 29:43is the fruit of believing the gospel.
- 29:45There is joy, there is peace and there's freedom from sin, but
- 29:50he's working from the heart from within, not trying to paint an
- 29:54evil heart good with a bunch of works.
- 29:57It's the out working of the Holy Ghost within us that changes
- 30:01what comes out of our mouth, not what goes into our mouth, not
- 30:05our youth food exit. So that is where God is going.
- 30:10He wants to go to your heart, change you from within, make you
- 30:13a new creature in him and have you believe that you're free
- 30:16from sin, you're free from your own righteousness.
- 30:19You're completely resolved in his righteousness and that's
- 30:22where you stand. And if anything good comes from
- 30:25you, comes out of my mouth, it's because I believe in Jesus
- 30:29Christ and that he made me a new creature.
- 30:30And that's it. Free right there.
- 30:35That's good, good stuff. Yeah, the, the idea that Christ
- 30:41is in you, the hope of glory, is a great mystery that was kept
- 30:44secret from the time the world began and is now being revealed
- 30:47to us. That word mystery, I found a
- 30:49really good definition of it that I thought was very
- 30:51applicable to this passage. It's it said this.
- 30:54It is a profound secret, something wholly unknown, or
- 30:59something cautiously concealed, kept cautiously concealed, and
- 31:03therefore exciting curiosity and wonder.
- 31:07And so now what is this great mystery that we speak of?
- 31:10It is the fact that God disposed himself of all of his riches and
- 31:16poured them into one man and not allowed us complete and full
- 31:19access to Him by faith. Now all the riches of wisdom and
- 31:24knowledge in God are hid in Christ Jesus, but he has been
- 31:29revealed to us and he's actually inside of us.
- 31:31Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- 31:34You know that it's not. We're not trying to become the
- 31:37perfect man. We are in Christ Jesus complete
- 31:41and perfect and in that finding that and understanding that and
- 31:45and and developing your knowledge of that is great
- 31:49comfort. It is great riches and wealth to
- 31:52your mind and to your heart and to your life without
- 31:55controversy. Great is the mystery of
- 31:56godliness. God was manifest in the flesh,
- 31:59seen of angels, justified in the Spirit, so on and so forth,
- 32:01believed on the world, received up in the glory.
- 32:04But now even greater than that is Christ is now in US, right,
- 32:07And all the wisdom of knowledge is hidden Him in that passage I
- 32:11quoted earlier, 1st Corinthians 130 But of him are ye in Christ
- 32:16Jesus, who of God has made unto us wisdom and righteousness and
- 32:21sanctification and redemption. It's a pretty complete gospel,
- 32:26folks. And for the people that want to
- 32:30say, oh, you want license to sin, are you trying to get out
- 32:34of the picture or you you don't want to be accountable for your
- 32:37actions. Do you want to be accountable
- 32:39for your actions? Do you really like if I have to
- 32:47pay for my sins, then I'm going to hell.
- 32:50If I have to like you, you, you just want enough grace.
- 32:55See, you see, I, the wisdom of God says that we're too far
- 33:00gone, too far gone to come off of God a little bit of
- 33:07circumcision or to come and offer God a little bit of
- 33:10Sabbath keeping or to come and offer God a little bit of hey,
- 33:13I'm not eating dirty meat. To us, spiritual wisdom and
- 33:20understanding says that it's blasphemous, almost like it's
- 33:24how insulting, you know, like Dan was saying, I just like we
- 33:28already gave up on ourselves. I gave up on my righteousness
- 33:32completely all the way gave up. I am relying on his
- 33:36righteousness, on his goodness. And if good things come out of
- 33:40me and I do good things, then that's fruit of that.
- 33:44It's not me trying to be that. Yes, right, it does.
- 33:50It does, but it's 100% right. All right, going to read the
- 33:55next verse, which is a verse that we've been kind of bouncing
- 34:00off of already for the last two or three maybe sessions a little
- 34:03bit. And this I say so he just So
- 34:07what he just got done talking about here in two and three.
- 34:12And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing
- 34:16words. What enticing words?
- 34:20Well, this is this is what Andrew has been harping on here,
- 34:23and he's going to get into that more and more.
- 34:25But if you want to know about enticing words in the devil's
- 34:28tactics, we're not ignorant of his devices.
- 34:31In Genesis chapter 3, Eve came or so the serpent came to Eve
- 34:36and beguiled her. In Genesis chapter 3 to the
- 34:39guile. To beguile is to delude or to
- 34:42deceive. And here he says, be careful
- 34:46lest any man beguile you with enticing words.
- 34:50The there's false teachers, false prophets, religious
- 34:53people, Judaizers in this case that are trying to beguile you
- 34:58with enticing words. And it will seem enticing.
- 35:00It will appear more godly in some cases.
- 35:04Thinking again to the Church of God, I went in there once and I
- 35:07was super impressed with their order, with their singing, with
- 35:10their excitement, with their seeming joy.
- 35:14They were really, really excited that they had found the place to
- 35:17worship. And it was enticing to some
- 35:20degree. But don't you think that somehow
- 35:22deceivers will always sound convincing?
- 35:25That's what deceiving is. The reason why it's deceptive is
- 35:28because it seems like it's pretty good.
- 35:30It's beguiling. Their words seem enticing.
- 35:34It would seem almost like truth. And and they write whole books
- 35:38of their enticing words and how, how could they then be wrong?
- 35:41They've written books on it. There's there's a couple
- 35:44generations go back with this teaching.
- 35:46It's it's there. Like it's not just some guy
- 35:49making it up. So then it starts sounding
- 35:51scriptural. I mean, they'll even school,
- 35:53they'll quote the Bible on almost every pass, every page of
- 35:56their book. So clearly they're not making
- 35:59this stuff up, right. It seems enticing that they are
- 36:03enticing with words. They don't find all the wisdom
- 36:07and knowledge in Christ. They do it rather with these
- 36:09enticing words, right? So many are so naive to think
- 36:13that people wouldn't ever try to trick them.
- 36:15But The thing is that the people who are often enticing people or
- 36:19deceiving people are themselves also deceived.
- 36:23So they can say it with all sincerity.
- 36:25They can. They can present it like it's
- 36:27really, really real for them because they have had some kind
- 36:31of experience with the from the day that they started keeping
- 36:34the Sabbath. They just feel so much better.
- 36:37They feel so much clearer in their spirit and their heart,
- 36:39and they have all kinds of scriptural proof as to why they
- 36:42should keep the Sabbath, but they miss Christ.
- 36:45In Second Corinthians 11/2 Paul says this, I am jealous over you
- 36:50with a godly jealousy, for I have espoused you to one
- 36:54husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin, but I fear
- 36:59lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his
- 37:05subtlety, that your mind should be corrupted from the simplicity
- 37:10that is in Christ. That's exactly the warning Paul
- 37:13was giving every church. He went to Galatians,
- 37:15Colossians, Corinthians, he just, he was warning this all
- 37:19the time. Do not go away from the
- 37:22simplicity of the gospel. You turn to the weak and
- 37:25beggarly elements of this world, and you will be found yourself
- 37:28again to be a Sinner. You will not escape the judgment
- 37:32of God. There is only one escape, and it
- 37:34is in Christ. That's right.
- 37:39That is good. I had to think of a verse when
- 37:41you were talking, Dan says. For when they speak great
- 37:45swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lust of the
- 37:50flesh. And that's what I'm thinking as
- 37:52you're talking. Those things that, that that are
- 37:55enticing and that would soon beguile us are always, they are,
- 38:01they are appealing to the senses every time, you know, Hey, that
- 38:06would make me look good to my brothers.
- 38:09Hey, that order is neat. Hey, this, but it's not Christ.
- 38:14It's good, but it's not Christ. Sometimes when you hear to the
- 38:19flesh that you think that they're that they're giving
- 38:22themselves then over to sexual immorality.
- 38:24No, they're giving themselves to external things that make
- 38:28themselves feel good about themselves.
- 38:30Yeah, it's not always bad things that draw us away from the right
- 38:34thing. It wouldn't be enticing if that
- 38:37was the case. Absolutely not.
- 38:39The devil doesn't come with a big red pitchfork and a set of
- 38:43horns. He comes with these small
- 38:46untruths and that is the battle that we and Paul are against.
- 38:52No, it's not. So.
- 38:53This is the truth. This is the truth, Andrew.
- 38:55I mean, he's been doing that since we started in Colossians
- 38:58and before that's his ministry is calling out these Judaizers.
- 39:01That's what he specializes on, I think.
- 39:04And I really you talk about it a lot and it's and it's for good
- 39:09reason, I think. So anyway, Andrew, go ahead with
- 39:12anything else that you have on. That I'm so adamant about this,
- 39:17but all Paul's a pistol. Deal with it, every one of them.
- 39:22All his letters in somewhere or another, he deals with
- 39:27circumcision or food or all, all of them and money.
- 39:33And like you guys were saying, Satan didn't lie much when he
- 39:39deceived Eve, when he beguiled her, everything was pretty much
- 39:44true. Her eyes were open, she knew
- 39:46good from evil. She didn't surely die.
- 39:50She died, but it wasn't like physically instantly, but what
- 39:57did it do? She got a Satan got her to focus
- 40:01on herself, to look at her benefit.
- 40:06What will this? How will this benefit me?
- 40:09He got into her head psychologically and that's where
- 40:14deception and Tyson Tyson stuff height works.
- 40:20I guarantee if you start applying some glorious strict
- 40:25religion, religiously kept the Sabbath, you're going to feel
- 40:28better. You will.
- 40:30I think Christians should rest a lot.
- 40:33It's great you will feel better, but what will make you feel 10
- 40:37times better since you think you're pleasing God by doing it.
- 40:41If you think that God is smiling as he sees you resting.
- 40:45If you think that somehow you you're doing the work of God by
- 40:50resting, or you add it somehow into the ministry, you preach
- 40:55it, you start teaching it, that's where God has a real
- 40:59problem with it. You elevate yourself above
- 41:02others. Yeah, and it's the same
- 41:05enticement of the prosperity gospel, which is a bunch of
- 41:08works. You do this and God will do
- 41:12this. You give this much money, God
- 41:14will give you this much money. Why do people believe the
- 41:17prosperity gospel? Because it promises them
- 41:19something in the physical. We are enticed by religion and
- 41:24things that somehow will promise us physical, realistic,
- 41:29something we feel, taste and smile.
- 41:33Something that speaks to that. If I can give you a method to
- 41:36how to stop sinning outside of Jesus Christ, you will go for
- 41:39it. If you're dealing with
- 41:42pornography and I could give you a pill to take that destroys
- 41:46your pornography addiction, I guarantee you would swallow it
- 41:51because it promises you a solution.
- 41:54Doesn't matter if it's not Jesus Christ.
- 41:56If I can come up with a program an A, a meeting or a drug or
- 42:00anything that delivers you and I come and tell you, hey, I tried
- 42:04this and it works. You would try it.
- 42:07Most people would. That's how enticing them works
- 42:10like and this is what Paul's telling us.
- 42:13Look, don't be enticed. That's why he can't stop talking
- 42:16about the finished work of Christ.
- 42:18And here he says, does that say let any man spoil you with
- 42:21enticing words? And then you would think he'd
- 42:23tell us what the enticing words are.
- 42:25No, it's like he'd stops and go, oh, wait a minute, I'm not
- 42:27telling you done telling you yet about the finished work of
- 42:30Christ. Let me go back to that and then
- 42:32later I'll tell you he. Does.
- 42:34Yeah, I thought about that. This, this is so fitting.
- 42:41I I read a little bit for when they speak, this is in second
- 42:44Peter, chapter 2, verse 18. For when they speak, great
- 42:46swelling birds of vanity. And just listen to what he's
- 42:48saying there. They allure you through the lust
- 42:50of the flesh, the through much wantonness.
- 42:53Those that were clean escape from them who live in error.
- 42:56While they promised them liberty, They themselves are the
- 42:59servants of corruption. See, this is where the whole
- 43:01problem lies. And it says four of whom a man
- 43:05is overcome of the same, is he brought into bondage.
- 43:09Or if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world
- 43:12through the knowledge of Lord back to knowledge of the Lord
- 43:16and our Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein
- 43:20and overcome. And the latter end is worse with
- 43:23them than from the beginning. Yeah, I just, that's exactly
- 43:28what we're dealing with this. This is talking in second Peter
- 43:302 about false prophets, you know, and it's, I just think
- 43:34that's relevant to what we're talking about, isn't?
- 43:36It thanks Leon. That's I mean you just read
- 43:38scripture. That was exactly what I was
- 43:40trying to say. It's awesome.
- 43:44It's so good, man. I'm telling you.
- 43:46Yep. Same as that that passage in 2nd
- 43:49Corinthians 11, right? That this subtlety that the
- 43:52serpent beguiled Eve all the same words even right,
- 43:56corrupting the mind from the simplicity that is in Christ.
- 44:01And is it in Romans 11 where it talks about how that many false
- 44:04prophets are going on, where it almost looks like Paul is
- 44:07competing with the false prophets?
- 44:09And it says, like, I'm also educated.
- 44:11I'm a Jew. I'm this, I'm that I also
- 44:14suffer. They talk about how they
- 44:17suffered. Well, I've, I've suffered too.
- 44:20And then he says how that they are profiting off of them
- 44:24somewhere. He talks about how that these
- 44:26false prophets are, they're, they're robbing you.
- 44:28They're making money off of you and it's like, man, I'm just
- 44:31trying to preach to you the gospel.
- 44:37Good stuff. All right, next verse for though
- 44:40I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying
- 44:44and beholding your order and the steadfastness of your faith in
- 44:49Christ. And, you know, I don't know that
- 44:54there's a lot of suggestion here, but the one thing that
- 44:56that gets my attention is that's something that I probably don't
- 45:00do as much as I, as I should is recognizing or appreciating, I
- 45:08guess is the word this, the steadfastness of the people's
- 45:13faith, you know, and enjoying over it and, and letting it, you
- 45:17know, also encourage me or whatever, but damn.
- 45:23Yeah, I was looking up the word order.
- 45:26It's used in a couple ways. The there's like the order of
- 45:29priesthood, the order of Melchizedek of Hebrews 5-10.
- 45:32But then in in First Corinthians 14, he talks about doing all
- 45:37things in decently and in order. And I was trying to think if
- 45:42there was some connection between either of those.
- 45:44But the fact that the church, the Colossians church was full
- 45:49of love and joy in the spirit and there was some kind of order
- 45:55in their church, this whole idea of being knit together in love.
- 45:58And Colossians, he talks about the the every joint supplying
- 46:01and being knit together connected to the head, which is
- 46:04Christ, and thereby the body is functioning well.
- 46:08And so only way a body can function well is if they're each
- 46:12individually connected to the head, and then we can be knit
- 46:16together in love towards one another.
- 46:19And so Paul was very impressed with and satisfied with the joy
- 46:23with the order that was in the Colossian church and the
- 46:26steadfastness of your faith in Christ.
- 46:29These are the things that churches ought to be encouraged
- 46:32and motivated to be like and to do.
- 46:34And there ought to be great celebration over a group of
- 46:37people that is gathering together in this kind of joy and
- 46:41this kind of faith in Christ. Amen.
- 46:43It's commendable, in other words.
- 46:45Yeah, for sure, Dander. Yeah, I think he's talking about
- 46:49being unified in the faith, not being some reaching out,
- 46:53speaking different things. We're all speaking the same
- 46:56thing. It's an order like us 3 here.
- 47:00I would say it's an order like there's not chaos, not one
- 47:05saying Oh no, that's this, you know, another thing.
- 47:08No, no, no, no, no, no. Like there's no, it's an order.
- 47:11Like we are united in the faith and we're steadfast.
- 47:14Like we're, we're not going to be shaken.
- 47:17We're not going to be moved. And it's an order.
- 47:21And it it, I don't know if he's talking to the Liotta scenes or
- 47:25who he is upset with, but it's or he's butter them up a little
- 47:28bit so he can they'll hear him better when he just gets about
- 47:31ready to tell him. Look just what I'm warning you
- 47:34about. I think I think all three of us
- 47:41have benefited from the warnings tonight as well.
- 47:45Oh yeah. So even if we have that order
- 47:48that you refer to and even if all of us are joying in Christ
- 47:52and are are steadfast in our faith toward him, it does me
- 47:56well. It serves me well to to
- 47:59recognize that there's warnings not to depart from that
- 48:02simplicity, to not not go back from it, right?
- 48:06Very much so I need to hear it. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 48:10And it's because we, yeah, we tend to get busy and forget some
- 48:15of this stuff. All right, Verse 6 as he have
- 48:19therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walkie in him,
- 48:23rooted and build up in him and established in the faith as he
- 48:27have been taught, abounding therein with Thanksgiving.
- 48:31You could take just six if you want, but that's once said
- 48:34there, I think that's pretty clear.
- 48:38Not not maybe a whole lot of discussion there.
- 48:42Yeah. Well, this has been one of those
- 48:45life verses for me. Maybe it doesn't seem like the
- 48:48one the linchpin, but this was one that really opened my mind
- 48:51to this idea that I'm not as a, you know, unsaved person.
- 48:56I have to stop working and just believe.
- 48:59But as a Christian, you got to work hard to be in standing with
- 49:02God and to stay in good standing with God.
- 49:04You got to keep short accounts. You got to pray hard.
- 49:06You got to read the Bible regularly.
- 49:09You've got to, got to, got to, but he doesn't say that.
- 49:12He, he says to established Christians, to faithful,
- 49:15steadfast in Christ Christians. He says, as you receive Christ
- 49:20Jesus the Lord, how did you receive him?
- 49:22Well, I had nothing to offer God.
- 49:24I had no hope apart from him. I turned to him in faith and I,
- 49:28I clung to him with all that I had because that's all that I
- 49:32had. So he said as you received him,
- 49:35that's how I want you to walk in him.
- 49:37I had a discussion just this week on Facebook a little bit
- 49:40with a, a pretty well known preacher.
- 49:42I actually recently interviewed him and he, he was saying that
- 49:46sanctification was by works. And I knew what he meant was
- 49:50because Paul, Paul says he wants our whole spirit, soul and body
- 49:54to be sanctified and that we would walk in sanctification.
- 49:57This is the will of God, even your sanctification that you
- 49:59would abstain from fleshly lusts, all those kinds of
- 50:02things. So he was saying we need to stop
- 50:04doing those things. That's clear.
- 50:07But these other passages just make it so plain that we are
- 50:11sanctified in Christ Jesus. And in exactly the same way that
- 50:15I had nothing to offer God for my salvation to begin with, so I
- 50:20have nothing to offer God to learn to walk in righteousness,
- 50:24or to be steadfast in Christ, or to be faithful to Him, or to
- 50:28walk free from sin. I need to as I received him in
- 50:32the beginning. That's how I walk in him and so
- 50:35many people, they look to the cross and they are saved,
- 50:38genuinely saved, but then the cross almost becomes irrelevant.
- 50:42It's something they can fall back onto in case they mess up.
- 50:45But from there they kind of move on.
- 50:46Now can now I need to walk faithful.
- 50:49Walking faithful is continuing to walk in the same way that we
- 50:53received him in the beginning. I heard preachers when I first
- 50:57became a Christian say these are like the exact quotes.
- 51:00If you don't spend at least an hour a day reading, you're a
- 51:04joke. You're not a serious Christian.
- 51:07Another preacher said that you should always read 3 to 6
- 51:10chapters of the old and three to six chapters of the new, never
- 51:14less, often more. And so obviously it's good to
- 51:17pray a lot. Obviously it's good to read the
- 51:19Bible a lot. But these people were promoting
- 51:22this concept that the way that you walk in Christ Jesus is by
- 51:27dedicating yourself to prayer and reading.
- 51:29Should. We dedicate ourselves to prayer
- 51:31and reading. Yes, of course, but you don't
- 51:34get close to God or stay close to God through your prayer and
- 51:38reading. Those are the fruit also.
- 51:40Those are things that we do because we're close to Him.
- 51:43Those are things we do because we have received Him.
- 51:46We're walking in in the same way, by grace through faith.
- 51:49I am saved eternally by grace through faith, and I am saved in
- 51:54the here and now by grace through faith in the cross of
- 51:57the Lord Jesus, just as I am without the one plea.
- 52:00But that thy blood was shed for me is the same plea today as it
- 52:04was on the day of revival when I first got saved, right?
- 52:08Man, I never get tired of that gospel.
- 52:11That is such a good story. Wowie, Andrew.
- 52:15Yeah, pretty much. Then pretty much covered it
- 52:18really well, like Amen. I didn't think of the guy that
- 52:22had his eyes opened up and everybody is like, hey, who was
- 52:25this like, I don't know. All I know is I was blind.
- 52:28Now I see and I think that's how we kind of need to look at it.
- 52:33Like that's that is the gospel is I, I know one thing that at
- 52:38one point I was responsible for my actions.
- 52:41I was responsible for my sin. I was guilty, I was condemned
- 52:46and I had no peace. And now I have peace and I know
- 52:49that someone else took my spot, took my place, and I don't
- 52:54deserve it. All I can do is say thank you
- 52:57and worship the name of Jesus Christ.
- 53:00He's my God, he's my savior, he's my Redeemer, and he's
- 53:03always going to be there. I in order for me to stay there,
- 53:08like Dan was saying, it's I stay there.
- 53:12That's it. I stay where I was when I got
- 53:15saved. And that is I found out that
- 53:18Jesus actually took my place. Now I'm no longer trying to beat
- 53:22the place because he took my place.
- 53:26So naturally you just stop working and believe because you
- 53:30know it's not by works. And now the fruit of a believer
- 53:34is usually far greater than those that are believing works.
- 53:39It's just this God is good like that.
- 53:43Yeah, he's so good, So good. So walk in and that that was
- 53:48that was really good. I can't, I can't believe what
- 53:50some of you guys pull out of a ten word verse that's good.
- 53:58Rooted and build up in him and established in the faith as he
- 54:02have been taught, abounding therein with Thanksgiving.
- 54:06It seems to me like Thanksgiving is a major part of remembering
- 54:11and it is. It is for it is for me.
- 54:13I know that when I when I think of the how thankful I am for
- 54:17what he did, it always causes me to rejoice and glorify and
- 54:21praise him. It does.
- 54:24It really does anymore because. These promises, these promises
- 54:28are much better than the promise that a lot of preachers are
- 54:31saying. Like if you give 100 bucks, God
- 54:32will give you 1000, but then you give the 100 bucks, then you're
- 54:36out 100 bucks. Yeah, like, and you're still out
- 54:40100 bucks and 1000 never showed up.
- 54:44That is a good way to kind of explain or an analogy of the
- 54:48difference between someone that is under the law, under grace,
- 54:52we have a promise of someone else doing the work, taking my
- 54:55place and making me right with God.
- 54:58If it depended on God giving me a $1000, if I believe, if I give
- 55:03him 100 and then I don't get the $1000, then I would be, my faith
- 55:09would waver. I wouldn't be established, I
- 55:10wouldn't be steadfast. It would give me reason.
- 55:13It would give me 'cause to doubt.
- 55:16It would give me justification to think this is this is not
- 55:20working. But Jesus Christ took my place
- 55:25and he did it and I can believe it.
- 55:29I don't need to have any promise fulfilled in my life to prove
- 55:35for me to not be fully assured and rest in the fact that Jesus
- 55:38Christ took my place. That's.
- 55:41Right. And as far as sinning that
- 55:43people seem to be so concerned about, like in Paul where it's
- 55:48like, so we continue and sin that grace may abound.
- 55:50God forbid, you know, you don't want to sin.
- 55:55Jesus also brought that victory. The only reason we sin is
- 55:58because we don't believe that Jesus Christ in him, which are
- 56:02all the riches and the power and the glory and him are hit all
- 56:06the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, walk in him therein
- 56:11therein which is in Christ in that, walk in that.
- 56:15And it's a faith. If you believe that you're free
- 56:19from sin, you'll walk like it. Amen.
- 56:25Damn. Yeah, this, this is all still
- 56:27part of that warning not to allow anyone to beguile you with
- 56:31enticing words, rather be rooted in him.
- 56:34So I, I like to, to encourage people to the King James Bible
- 56:39in particular. And I maybe it's because I read
- 56:41the King James and that's why I like it so much.
- 56:43But it gives you words that develop pictures in your mind
- 56:48and it helps people who are pretty simplistic and they're
- 56:51not super sophisticated, but you can picture a word.
- 56:54He says we should continue in him.
- 56:56We were planted in him when we began.
- 56:58Now he says rooted. So imagine being rooted deeply
- 57:03like the roots of your life going deep down how, how deep or
- 57:06what do they go into? Rooted in him and he says built
- 57:11up in him and established in the faith as you have been taught,
- 57:17abounding during with Thanksgiving.
- 57:19Like those are all very word pictures that you get in your
- 57:23mind. And it should you, you get to
- 57:24dig into the idea of being saved apart from your works.
- 57:28That's what he wants you to do. Yeah.
- 57:30I don't know. I understand salvation by grace
- 57:32through faith. No, no, no, don't.
- 57:33Don't understand it. Then move on.
- 57:35Be rooted in that concept. Like can consider it, dwell on
- 57:39it, revel in it, rejoice in it. Be joying in, in, in that truth,
- 57:44be rooted in that and then be built up in that same truth you
- 57:48know, from the roots of being loved and accepted by God by
- 57:53grace. Be built up in that and then be
- 57:55established in it, you know, be firmed up in it.
- 57:58Never stop being established in the, the beautiful truths that
- 58:02God has saved you apart from your own works.
- 58:05You know, picture a tree rooted in the grace of God being built
- 58:08up from the foundation and then being secured in the steadied
- 58:12more and more through time, never to be moved from that
- 58:15truth that that is the whole of the Christian life.
- 58:18Of course, it gets deeper. It gets it touches all the
- 58:22different areas of your life. And we'll talk about that, about
- 58:25how it relates to your relationships and everything and
- 58:28in your ability to walk free from different things.
- 58:31But where our minds should go, where we should set our
- 58:34affection, he's going to say, is on things above where Christ is
- 58:38seated at the right hand of God. Yeah, Amen.
- 58:44Yeah, that's good. That's good.
- 58:46I just had to think of my wife posted on Facebook today and
- 58:49right we we had been talking about this, she said God has
- 58:53been so kind to us. He has drawn us, He has kept us.
- 58:57He continues to guide us with his Holy Spirit and words can't
- 59:00describe the comfort that that gives us.
- 59:04And that is that's right. I agree with that that comment
- 59:07100%. We have never had reason to
- 59:09doubt God. We had never had reason to think
- 59:11that he would not accept us as a beloved, you know, and it's it's
- 59:16been so good. So yeah, to be, to be rooted,
- 59:19get them roots way down there in the grace of God and let from it
- 59:24spring truth and and boldness and the ability to walk above
- 59:29them. You know, all the good stuff
- 59:31comes right out of the soil. The soil that the tree is
- 59:35planted in determines how it's going to grow.
- 59:38And so, yeah, we got the good stuff right, keeping that grace
- 59:41and whatever. And what a lot of people will
- 59:44say is, well, well, since I started doing this, these are
- 59:48the benefits. 123 or my relationship with God is so much
- 59:52clearer or so much closer, or I just my hope is better or
- 59:57whatever. All those things can be false.
- 1:00:02You know, there's very much a false hope.
- 1:00:06I remember when I was guilty and convicted like crazy for using
- 1:00:09the chainsaw. It literally I was guilty.
- 1:00:16I was completely convicted. And I confessed it to the the
- 1:00:19priests, the Amish priests, and they confessed in front of the
- 1:00:23whole church and I mourn. And after that I felt better.
- 1:00:27I felt a lot better. But the whole thing was a sham.
- 1:00:31I was deceived. I was beguiled.
- 1:00:35Yeah, All right, I'm going to quit.
- 1:00:40There were a couple of minutes past.
- 1:00:42Remember to what he said as you received Christ, walk in him,
- 1:00:48Jerry. That's right.
- 1:00:49Be rooted in, grow and live in it.
- 1:00:53Yeah. And if our roots, if our roots
- 1:00:55are in there, we are going to grow by it.
- 1:00:58That that's a natural result of a seed being put into fertile
- 1:01:02ground is that it grows, goes. So that's great.
- 1:01:06All right. Thank you for your time,
- 1:01:07brothers. Appreciate it.
- 1:01:09Thanks, guys for listening in. Always appreciate you and we'll
