- 0:001 and that is after a person adapts and stands, he recalls.
- 0:08Humility of the mind, which is in our minds is the first step
- 0:14is to realize, you know, we're very gifted, we're very blessed
- 0:17and a lot of talent, a lot of the ability wonderful, but I'm
- 0:22human, I'm fluid. I should relax in my mind and
- 0:26not think I'm the be all endorsed out as the core source,
- 0:29recognizing when I am and when I'm capable of and also
- 0:32realizing that I can be flawed and that holds me back from
- 0:35being arrogant. Now he goes on to talk about it
- 0:37and this is key on Ava in where you conduct yourself in your
- 0:42actions. So that means how you walk, how
- 0:45you talk, how you interact, where you go, where you don't
- 0:50go. There's actually a display of
- 0:52arrogance and humility in all of that.
- 0:54And you'll see in very clear in the examples he brings.
- 0:57In fact, he brought this up early in the book as well, but
- 0:59it's very clear examples Mahine as follows.
- 1:05The barn ruad adhena manvata Mashiva.
- 1:09We have spoken to this point in the idea of humility in the mind
- 1:14when the Benata Amman Vata Massa has now talked about humility in
- 1:19your actions. The heated chalegal al Bahakin.
- 1:23There are 4 portions, 4 different categories within this
- 1:27category of humble and action. You think, OK, what's the big
- 1:30deal? I just carry myself in a humble
- 1:31way. He says no, there are multiple
- 1:34different ways, number one, but the heck, I'm at small Bishop
- 1:39flutes carrying yourself in that sort of unassuming manner, being
- 1:45unassuming despoil out of the notes.
- 1:48So we can see that clearly. Humility applies itself.
- 1:51The guy who wants to be just more than just humble on his
- 1:54mind, wants to be humble in action, to be unassuming.
- 1:57That is the actual humility, Biswala le bonnot to deal with
- 2:01insults. That's also a great sign of
- 2:04carrying yourself in a humble way.
- 2:06Which means humility has a power not just to make you into a
- 2:10person who's low key, It also molds your life and molds your
- 2:15entire life how you respond to things.
- 2:17It's also displacing the earth. Bisnada Bannut.
- 2:21OK, it's not in English. What does those words mean?
- 2:23Hate the revenue, which means to despise positions of authority
- 2:29and despise the drive to be a power leader.
- 2:34In the same frame of mind, that means you run away from honor.
- 2:38OK, Run away from honor is an unbelievable thing.
- 2:41It's a very significant thing. And it's a third display.
- 2:44So you have over here so far three legs of how caring
- 2:48yourself humble can display itself One overall, you're
- 2:52unassuming. It's not a big deal.
- 2:54You don't expect much, you don't really demand much.
- 2:58That's unassuming. It's a beautiful thing.
- 2:59It's immune #2 you're able to handle insults.
- 3:05People are throwing things your way and you deflect.
- 3:08It doesn't hate you. Why doesn't hate you?
- 3:11Not because you someone who's overcoming insult.
- 3:13No, it's because you, someone who doesn't really care, because
- 3:16you don't really believe that you deserve any better than
- 3:18that. And thirdly, someone, the most
- 3:21important I believe of these is someone who runs away, hates the
- 3:25ravinant. We'll explain it.
- 3:26That means in a second. And runs away from powers.
- 3:29And fourthly, Bechalouk Kavod Lacour, you in turn give honor
- 3:35to everybody else. You're not consumed, you own
- 3:38honor. You're not seeing yourself as a
- 3:40center of the ring and therefore you have the brain space to be
- 3:44able to see other people and their existence.
- 3:46I've been around people even recently.
- 3:49I was somewhere recently, I don't want to give whatever.
- 3:52And I and I noticed a lot of people or positions of power and
- 3:57they saw me literally and they looked right by and my friend of
- 4:02mine was today, today see me today not see me.
- 4:05They know me. They know me very well right by
- 4:08me. And I thought to myself, they're
- 4:10not really, you know, insulting me.
- 4:13What they're doing is that is they don't even see you.
- 4:15There's so laser focus on their own reflection and how and how
- 4:20relevant they are and what people are saying about them or
- 4:23thinking of them how they're doing right now.
- 4:25They don't even see you. And I can go back to them
- 4:27tomorrow and say, by the way, I was with you over there.
- 4:29It's really guarantee. All right.
- 4:32And this is a very common practice and all the time.
- 4:34Originally it used to be like, oh, there's so many.
- 4:37They ignore me now. It's just it's so consumed its
- 4:40own existence. They didn't even see you.
- 4:42So he says the 4th like of carrying yourself with a level
- 4:47of humility is you notice other people just notice them and
- 4:52therefore you give them the respect.
- 4:54Am I saying right? Is this a reality?
- 4:56Very much reality. You go to a wedding, you see,
- 4:58does he go to an event? He says you go to show you see
- 5:01this. There's the guy who looks right
- 5:03by you, not because he's anything against you, for sure
- 5:06not. He's a good guy, but he's so
- 5:09laser focused on his own existence and he doesn't even
- 5:12see you there. But I look Cavoid Laco.
- 5:14All right, Hi. Let's do all my work.
- 5:18That's a good way to go on that one.
- 5:21You know what? My name.
- 5:25Man, a lot of time too, somebody would be walking on the street,
- 5:30but but you'll say, oh, hi, how are you doing?
- 5:32Nice to see you. I'm not.
- 5:33You're just just just to be polite for what you got to do,
- 5:35Which is it? Which is it's a good thing, but
- 5:37a lot of times it it'll happen. Somebody I've had it happen to
- 5:40me where trip or guy walked by. I know they got all of a sudden,
- 5:44like he doesn't know me. All of a sudden you're good.
- 5:46So there's a couple of things. You're right, there is the
- 5:49opposite mind element. People are opposite minded.
- 5:51That's OK. There are people who are busy,
- 5:53who are distracted. All those things, all fine and
- 5:56all very good excuses. But there is the fact that if
- 5:59you would see this person by a very, you know, famous wedding,
- 6:03he'd walk right by. And if you see him in Israel on
- 6:06vacation, he'll stop and schmooze, right.
- 6:09What happened? Same guy, I thought we know each
- 6:12other. We not know each other exactly
- 6:14in Israel. He's a little bit alone, and
- 6:17he's really a little bit alone, and he's happy to see our
- 6:20familiar face. And there's really nobody around
- 6:23that's, you know, judging or whatever.
- 6:25So talk to me, but in by this wedding or by this event, he's
- 6:29got other things on his mind, center of attention in his mind,
- 6:32even though he's not. And therefore he's consumed and
- 6:35it's a reality and it's a real reality.
- 6:37It's a shame. And he's saying over here, a
- 6:40person wants to be legitimate humble.
- 6:43They want to not just humble on their mind beyond that humble on
- 6:46action and the fourth layer of humble on action, they need to
- 6:49be able to be a person who's haluk kavod laco.
- 6:53That means evident aliyah. You shake it where you shake
- 6:58people's hands. You make sure to notice the guy
- 7:00who's not really a major guy on his mind and you see him and
- 7:03shake his hand. There are 1,000,000 examples of
- 7:05this and they come out and they play out in a million ways.
- 7:08And it's unbelievable how these examples literally display to
- 7:12you. You see these things every
- 7:13single day and they literally display to you what a person is
- 7:17and how arrogant they are. Now I had a.
- 7:19Question. Go ahead, I'd be covered Only
- 7:22yesterday. And my kids, you're my kids
- 7:24family. This whole thing is a shame.
- 7:27Yeah, somebody. Someone isn't.
- 7:29Because this had OK. So how you rather bring to that?
- 7:32Trash. Sky.
- 7:34No, and me, my wife turned around to them and said you I
- 7:39agree. I mean, I always have this thing
- 7:42and and etcetera. You know, when the people go up
- 7:45and donate money and, and everyone Pats them on the back,
- 7:49you know, and it's, I, I think I understand where the intent was
- 7:554050 years ago and how the people were.
- 7:58It's definitely not the same. The, the feeling, right?
- 8:01There were other guys who who prayed in the shul that were at
- 8:04a place that they were doing that but also felt uncomfortable
- 8:08and, and, and and then there's people who eat it up and it's
- 8:13like it's. Created for the peanut.
- 8:15It's almost like it's a therapy thing.
- 8:16It's a feel good. Thing so I had this question.
- 8:19I have to same situation, literally same, though I think
- 8:23to myself, is that the best approach?
- 8:26Do you need the pomp and circumstance?
- 8:30Do you need the noise? Do you need the overdoing?
- 8:33Specific people who are behind the scenes, who are very much
- 8:36other people involved who got it seemed like very little credit
- 8:40when they were not in the front of this entire situation.
- 8:44I don't want to hit too much. And it I was wondering like, you
- 8:47know, first of all, I wondered how they came away from it and
- 8:50how they felt show a little strange.
- 8:52Probably they don't care. But also is that the best way to
- 8:55do things? I don't know, really don't know.
- 8:59They're getting in a certain sense, maybe millions of dollars
- 9:03from certain people and maybe they feel like they have.
- 9:05I happen to think that the people that they gave attention
- 9:08to didn't need that. Those people would not really
- 9:11coming for that attention and didn't really.
- 9:13It was like we overdid a deal with the people, really didn't
- 9:16expect that personally and all the people involved didn't
- 9:20expect it. But again, it's a great
- 9:21question. Isn't necessary.
- 9:23Community is number one in the world in giving charity.
- 9:28Would it not? Be given now this situation
- 9:32David, I think would have been given regardless.
- 9:34No, maybe that, but I'm saying general look at the flip side of
- 9:37our community. It is the most charitable
- 9:39community there is. No, no, guys.
- 9:41The names in the building on 20? That's not done right.
- 9:44He's fighting with the names on the building that.
- 9:46Maybe it's not even done right. He's still you're in Shulia
- 9:50watching. You're growing up like that.
- 9:51You want to do. Right.
- 9:52I was doing it and they do it so it's as bad as it is.
- 9:56Like that it's. Also such a good that that these
- 9:57people give. To the very definitely no, it's
- 10:00unbelievably delicate point and it's really a case by case
- 10:02ration. Are we sent in Shabbat when I
- 10:05put my name on a building? Of course I would.
- 10:06I would love to have my name on a building.
- 10:08I would love to have my father's name on a building and stuff
- 10:10like that. No question.
- 10:12And yes, there is a degree of now my name isn't lights and now
- 10:16they're going to call me a million times and now I'm going
- 10:18to become famous. And now I'm going to need to
- 10:20work a little harder on my humility.
- 10:21That's true. I'm going to put myself to a
- 10:23little bit more effort and more working on my character.
- 10:26It's absolutely true. But it's going to help my
- 10:29children. For the community.
- 10:30All that's clear. The question is, like I said,
- 10:32the palm and circumstances, the method sketch and they're
- 10:36walking around and they're saying their names a million
- 10:38times and and being loud about them and holding their hand and
- 10:42all these different sorts of sketch, I don't think.
- 10:45Not provide that organization with that money.
- 10:48Yeah, I don't think those people needed it.
- 10:50I don't think they need it. You, if you'd see it, you say to
- 10:52yourself, this feels like you're overdoing it and you're a little
- 10:54bit like almost too scared that you're not doing enough for
- 10:58them. So you're laying it on thick and
- 11:00in the process what you're doing is, and this is where my again,
- 11:03I don't know the full background, but in the process
- 11:05you're doing is a little bit of a shame.
- 11:07And that is that the people, the real people who put in years and
- 11:11we're there the whole time and we're there before this is a hot
- 11:14item and really were, you know, they really were the the
- 11:18groundwork and the foundation. This happens all the time.
- 11:21They didn't get their due and they didn't get the recognition
- 11:25and what it gives them a salad taste.
- 11:26Now they're going to bounce back by saying, listen, we did it for
- 11:29the right reason. We're happy to be here.
- 11:31We're happy not to have financial burden for this
- 11:33organization anyhow. So it's all fine.
- 11:35We're good. But then they get the chance and
- 11:38the community isn't going to look at that situation again
- 11:41because it's, you know, so it's being far out and it's not
- 11:43really a, a center of attention type organizations got.
- 11:46It's one shot and now they lost their chance and now they have
- 11:50to go down the humble road. And again, it's really something
- 11:54that is, I think it's misplaced and it's misguided and it's
- 11:56really wrong. But their overall theme is they
- 11:59did not even realize what they were doing, no clue what they
- 12:04were doing. So right by the people, it's all
- 12:06right. They're just palm and
- 12:07circumstances. Whereas where you're bringing in
- 12:10people who are not involved, you're bringing people who
- 12:12didn't put in the the work and the effort.
- 12:14Any real organization, any real organization, you have two
- 12:18parts. You have the guys who are put in
- 12:20the work and the time and the effort who give money at times
- 12:24when it's not really so. So, you know, guaranteed the
- 12:27organization's going to work out guys who put in the hours and
- 12:30the meetings and all that, then yeah, all these people will show
- 12:33up. Maybe they show up with the
- 12:35millions. I am understand.
- 12:38Maybe they're just showing up for the event, whatever.
- 12:40Maybe they just show up and it takes away and it drew a really
- 12:44takes away the the the proper appreciation from the right
- 12:48people. And it does, like I said just
- 12:50now, they look right by you and they don't even really exist in
- 12:52this. I don't know.
- 12:53It wasn't it all the time. They might not even mention
- 12:55those names and it would seem like a shame.
- 12:58All right, that's my point now. Kids can't be sketched.
- 13:02You could sketch adults, right? Stroking their egos.
- 13:05The children who have nothing to do with anything.
- 13:08They could smell something. That's why your kids walked away
- 13:11and made that comment. Yeah, Yeah.
- 13:12Good. That's what you want.
- 13:14You want to make that comment, right?
- 13:15And you want you want people to recognize it makes a difference
- 13:20if you greet every person or not.
- 13:22It makes a difference. These people, for this example,
- 13:25right, He's blue recently. Like I say, look right by me.
- 13:29I can't. I really don't care.
- 13:30In fact, I was happy to go, to go and leave and all that.
- 13:33I'm happy that way. I was happy to be able to take a
- 13:36tour without even noticing me. I went from the different exit.
- 13:38All good. But at the same time, it has an
- 13:41effect. What effect does it have on me
- 13:43personally? I know we're holding, honestly,
- 13:46I know we're holding. And I know what's on your mind
- 13:49and I recognize the fact. And you're clearly consumed,
- 13:53this person, the people clearly consumed with their own title
- 13:57and recognition. And to me, it diminishes your
- 14:00existence. That's what it does to me.
- 14:02So a lot of times the people made their pledges and when they
- 14:05go through that, then they the the show makes them.
- 14:07Now you got to put a public and now you have to put that.
- 14:10That's a different scenario. You're right and they do, but
- 14:11that person is a good guy will not carry himself.
- 14:15That person is really a genuine person.
- 14:17He won't get an ally and only know the certain people.
- 14:20He won't. He won't walk through an event
- 14:22and completely ignore people, will stay right there, see right
- 14:25down them when he notices them. Other times he won't do that.
- 14:28That guy's a regular good guy that she'll ask them a favor.
- 14:30Sure. People have come to me and asked
- 14:33should I do my thing I do or should I say my pledge.
- 14:36And at times I said do my thing I do.
- 14:38And at times I said, you know, but you're by a drive where
- 14:40you're going to hurt the organization.
- 14:42Say your pledge. I know it's hard for you.
- 14:44Say your pledge anyway, you're not.
- 14:46Don't worry about it. You're going to do more good
- 14:47than bad. You're fine.
- 14:49This is a fine balance, but overall that person is not
- 14:52self-centered. The issue is we're arrogance
- 14:55lead to self-centered and let's just play out this point for
- 14:57today. And that is that people, good
- 15:01people. And it's a funny thing about
- 15:02this whole concept. Like Abby said the other day,
- 15:05this is the end of the book. If it's at the end of the book,
- 15:07that means we're dealing with the high level and therefore
- 15:10we're dealing with very good people who are extremely
- 15:13endlessly giving, caring, sensitive and time selfless.
- 15:19The problem that they face and the people face is, is that
- 15:22arrogance and insignificant insecurity or told Avada the
- 15:25same thing. And these very people at times
- 15:29are very unsure if they're even functioning in this world.
- 15:33That's how it's scared they are. And because of that, they're so
- 15:36consumed by whether or not they look good.
- 15:40They're saying the right thing, they're walking the right way.
- 15:44People are recognizing that whatever it may be, right,
- 15:46that's just how they are because they're nervous and because that
- 15:49their insecurity plays into this crazy degree of how they carry
- 15:54themselves. And that's how far it goes.
- 15:56Like he says, they were not be hello, Cobola call.
- 15:59The best thing you want to be is a person.
- 16:02Every person you see in the room, they say hello to them.
- 16:04They say good morning to them. You invite them to your parties.
- 16:07It's all the same. You don't leave people out.
- 16:10You're not the guy who makes groups and says OK, we're only
- 16:13having that type, only having that person.
- 16:16They're all the same to me. I say hello and eventually plays
- 16:19out why it was Eventually you have a way larger support group
- 16:25and a way larger friend group and everyone gets along with
- 16:28you. And you know what we noticed in
- 16:30this community? There are ups and downs, like
- 16:32like a little like a seesaw in this community.
- 16:35People go up, people go down, people do well.
- 16:38You are not doing well. People have times that are
- 16:41better for the reputation times that are good for the reputation
- 16:44and you need everyone. You need everyone.
- 16:46I owe some people who are hot, you know, let's go on hot shots
- 16:50and they are very good at at literally I call I told them
- 16:54peeling the onion that is right now so and so is not relevant
- 16:58for my life, but my position goodbye gets me nervous.
- 17:01I'll see you later and they continue to peel the onion and
- 17:04I've told them I said it's going to come back to bite because
- 17:06there will be a time where you need these people and there's
- 17:09going to be smaller and smaller. If you have a problem with this
- 17:12brother-in-law and you have a problem with with that person,
- 17:15the community and your problem is slowly going to shrink and
- 17:18shrink your world and you're not going to be happy.
- 17:20Khalouk Kavod Lacung give every person respect and makes your
- 17:26life harder initially because you don't get the the good, the
- 17:29feeling of being Mr. so and so. But at the same time, every
- 17:33extremely large group, you know what people talk about, They
- 17:36talk about the fact that you're down to earth.
- 17:38They love the fact that you're normal and it's the greatest
- 17:41move for your kavod, as if you shake every person's hand.
- 17:46You go to an event and you recognize every person.
- 17:48If you're able to see the whole room, you're able to be aware of
- 17:51the whole room and not just look at yourself in the mirror has
- 17:54you there and literally only see the people that make you better
- 17:58able to see a bigger, larger picture.
- 18:02You give everyone honor. It's a whole different animal
- 18:05and you become such a more popular person.
- 18:08If you get everything else, your popularity is up all right,
- 18:11People like you better, so you're doing something for your
- 18:13own cavort in. Reality is the joke.
- 18:16The more you give other people respect, the more you gain
- 18:19respect for yourself make. Them feel good somebody comes
- 18:21over to say hey Mike how you doing nice to see you and all
- 18:23that this you feel good too so the.
- 18:25Smallest things make us feel good.
- 18:27As a rabbit, do you walk around with a Shoal shake?
- 18:29Everyone's hand. As a rabbi went.
- 18:31On Shabbat, everyone, you have all new.
- 18:33Faces like. Do you go to row by row to
- 18:35shake? Each person well, I it's not not
- 18:37really a situation where I'm able to walk over Rd. by row,
- 18:40but absolutely I am I baruch Hashem, raised by a father who
- 18:45was able to notice everything in the room.
- 18:47And just to give you a little Haber background, habers have an
- 18:51awareness. It's a little bit to a fault
- 18:53happens to be regardless. I don't know if it's ruin my
- 18:56mother or my I'm not here, but it's an awareness to a fault.
- 18:58So now if you wonder if any of my brothers notice some guy in
- 19:02the corner of the room, they always notice again, regardless
- 19:06of of of you know, they're not human related to that happens to
- 19:10be an awareness. And I know my, I always go to
- 19:12places and my wife just says, how did you notice that?
- 19:14How do you see that? Some of my kids are literally
- 19:16like that. They can pick up on the smallest
- 19:18thing and some of them don't notice anything that happens to
- 19:20be a every trade. So therefore, because of that, I
- 19:23see things in the room. It kind of makes me crazy
- 19:26because I'm watching everything and my, my all things always
- 19:28going on in my mind, that's for sure.
- 19:30And every one of my siblings, the same way, they're watching
- 19:32everything and they're picking up and everything just the way
- 19:34you are. And that's why people say, oh, I
- 19:36had the conversation over there and I quote them and this and S
- 19:40to M. So because of that, I feel like
- 19:42saying hello to people, yes, regardless of humility or not,
- 19:45but it's a very effective tool. If you see people and you buy an
- 19:50event, you buy a wedding, you shake every person's hands.
- 19:52You don't realize you are expanding your popularity
- 19:56tenfold. That's how big it is.
- 19:58And you see a person, you say hello to them, you stand in the
- 20:00corner and you talk to one guy for a minute even though he's
- 20:04not Mr. Relevant. And it's an unbelievably
- 20:06effective tool, but also a very humble tool.
- 20:10Now someone could say, I'm great, Dave.
- 20:12Someone could say, OK, it's effective.
- 20:14Let me do it to gain popularity. You will not be able to do this
- 20:20too without being a humble person.
- 20:22You won't be able to, you're not able to do this.
- 20:25You won't be able to shake people's hands by a wedding,
- 20:28random people unless you have humble in your mind and humble
- 20:30in your actions because you'll be so laser focused on myself,
- 20:35on my existence. They won't notice them.
- 20:38My point with this event recently is it's not that these
- 20:41people are bad people. They're great people.
- 20:43They do so much good. It's just that they didn't
- 20:45notice. They did not notice.
- 20:47I'm Sema. Did they really just completely
- 20:50walk right by? Did they really just not see?
- 20:53They didn't see. And that's a degree of humility.
- 20:56I want to get to the ability to see right.
