Latest / The Next Round / The Next Round: College Football Week Zero Reactions: LSU-Clemson, Memphis, Belichick & Aaron Donald Returns | Hour 1
Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: And as always, the next round presented by Hard Rock
- 0:03Speaker 1: Bets here on Sporting State. Jim Dunaway, Lance Taylor, Ryan Brown,
- 0:07Speaker 1: all the guys behind the glass. A lot to get
- 0:08Speaker 1: to after we've watched week zero sort of spin our
- 0:13Speaker 1: opinions about certain people and maybe different directions or the
- 0:16Speaker 1: same direction. NFL cut time. A goat is returning to
- 0:20Speaker 1: the NFL. All that coming up in the next two
- 0:23Speaker 1: hours of the show. Week zero was fun, man. It
- 0:25Speaker 1: was fun. I enjoyed it. The best game of the
- 0:28Speaker 1: day to me was Memphis-UNLV.
- 0:29Speaker 2: It was. I had to wait until late for that one,
- 0:31Speaker 2: but that was a fun game. I agree.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It was really good.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I thought Stanford-Hawaii, it was definitely rollercoaster.
- 0:38Speaker 3: It was really boring at first, and then Stanford looked
- 0:41Speaker 3: like they were going to dominate in the third quarter,
- 0:43Speaker 3: and then Hawaii comes storming back, and it was the
- 0:45Speaker 3: bad beat of the weekend.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I had the Rainbow Warriors plus the four. It
- 0:50Speaker 2: was a really good Saturday, but that would have capped
- 0:52Speaker 2: off a perfect Saturday for us.
- 0:53Speaker 1: And Virginia and NC State, Virginia looked good. So we've
- 0:56Speaker 1: got a lot to get to from this week zero
- 0:58Speaker 1: as we look ahead to week one as well. Our
- 1:02Speaker 1: upset alert, if you're new to our show, we do
- 1:04Speaker 1: those on Tuesday. We'll do it tomorrow as we always do.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We have a little art event. With that as well,
- 1:10Speaker 1: we draw some logos out. We make picks, have a
- 1:12Speaker 1: competition all year long. It's a lot of fun, and
- 1:15Speaker 1: we do that on Tuesdays. But we'll talk about Monday
- 1:19Speaker 1: is always a super reaction day here on the show,
- 1:21Speaker 1: as it is on every platform. And I guess the
- 1:25Speaker 1: big reaction to Memphis UNLV was these were two group
- 1:31Speaker 1: of six playoff contenders, right? The winner of this was
- 1:34Speaker 1: going to have an inside track, possibly to be a
- 1:37Speaker 1: group of six teams. It was a great game. Memphis
- 1:41Speaker 1: wins it in the end. But my takeaway was, man,
- 1:46Speaker 1: this Charles Huff guy can coach.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Well, I thought there was two takeaways. Charles Huff definitely
- 1:51Speaker 2: can coach.
- 1:52Speaker 3: We didn't know how all this could come together with
- 1:54Speaker 3: 60 new players on this Memphis roster. But, man, their
- 1:57Speaker 3: ability to attack and get after the quarterback, six sacks
- 2:00Speaker 3: for Memphis. On the other side, outside of the fact
- 2:03Speaker 3: that Charles Huff can obviously coach going from Marshall to
- 2:06Speaker 3: Southern Miss to now Memphis, Auburn is the place quarterbacks
- 2:10Speaker 3: go to die. Malik Willis is going to be your
- 2:12Speaker 3: starting quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. Did nothing at Auburn.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Jared Stidham started an AFC championship game last year. Really
- 2:19Speaker 3: didn't do much at Auburn. Bo Nix has to transfer
- 2:22Speaker 3: out to make a name for himself. And then you
- 2:24Speaker 3: look at Jackson Arnold. I thought Jackson Arnold played really,
- 2:27Speaker 3: really good.
- 2:27Speaker 2: This is why all offseason, I don't get much right,
- 2:31Speaker 2: but I said it'll be a breakout year for him,
- 2:33Speaker 2: and we'll see. This is one game. Not going to
- 2:35Speaker 2: call it a breakout year yet, but Dan Mullen gets
- 2:37Speaker 2: the most out of quarterbacks.
- 2:38Speaker 3: He can get a lot out of quarterbacks. But that's
- 2:40Speaker 3: one of the most difficult defenses he will see. I mean,
- 2:42Speaker 3: Memphis was in his face all night. His ability to
- 2:45Speaker 3: run the football, I thought he has progressed as a passer.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Six sacks.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Memphis had six sacks, so that's why they win the game.
- 2:53Speaker 1: But I agree with you. Arnold looked a lot better,
- 2:55Speaker 1: really emphasizing using his legs a lot more. That one,
- 2:59Speaker 1: he broke into the— Off the right tackle.
- 3:02Speaker 2: No, I thought he was taking it to the house.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I did, too. I guess he just started running out
- 3:06Speaker 1: of gas.
- 3:06Speaker 2: It did look like it.
- 3:07Speaker 1: It looked like he was doing those speed tests they
- 3:09Speaker 1: used to do at the Salt Flats out near Las Vegas.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 3:13Speaker 1: It looked like he was doing one of those speed
- 3:14Speaker 1: tests out there trying to break the world record.
- 3:16Speaker 2: He was zooming. He got run down, but he was zooming. Well,
- 3:20Speaker 2: I didn't see any of that at all.
- 3:21Speaker 3: No, and you know, I mean, first of all, Dan Mullen,
- 3:24Speaker 3: I mean, he just can't get out of his way
- 3:26Speaker 3: on being hokey.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Coming out with Elvis... So college football.
- 3:30Speaker 1: But if they if they go out and they win
- 3:32Speaker 1: the game, 35 to 17, everybody would have loved it.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Bring Elvis back. Still OK. I mean, something he doesn't
- 3:38Speaker 2: need to do. But back to Las Vegas.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Man, you're putting on a show. I mean, there's a
- 3:43Speaker 1: good chance that. They could have come out with– what
- 3:47Speaker 1: are those girls called? Oh, the Flamingo Girls? I don't
- 3:51Speaker 1: know what they're called.
- 3:51Speaker 2: That would have been hokey, too.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, it would have been.
- 3:54Speaker 2: Why not just roll your team out? So you didn't
- 3:57Speaker 2: have a problem with Elvis?
- 3:58Speaker 1: No, I didn't have a problem with Elvis running out there.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I mean, we've got stuffed animals at most places. I
- 4:04Speaker 1: thought it was completely ridiculous, hokey. But, look, this is
- 4:08Speaker 1: Dan Mullen for you.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Look at that. That's awesome. I mean, that's– I love it.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's freaking Vegas, man. If he was dressed like Elvis,
- 4:16Speaker 1: that would have been hokey. But he's running out with Elvis.
- 4:18Speaker 1: That's what Vegas is known for.
- 4:20Speaker 3: Jaden Thomas, one of the best group six running backs
- 4:22Speaker 3: last year, held the 44 yards. I mean, this is
- 4:24Speaker 3: Memphis defense. You know, they still give up 21 points
- 4:27Speaker 3: because I thought Jackson Arnold was that good. And look,
- 4:31Speaker 3: Forrester looks like He's brilliant right now, his group six
- 4:34Speaker 3: rep being Charles Huff in Memphis.
- 4:36Speaker 2: They've got a brutal schedule.
- 4:37Speaker 1: They do. They eventually will get Boise State here in
- 4:40Speaker 1: a second. But Charles Huff, they knew the setting, right?
- 4:45Speaker 1: They knew that this was a primetime, main Fox, 9 o'clock,
- 4:49Speaker 1: everybody in the country watching it moment for Memphis against UNLV.
- 4:54Speaker 1: In what felt like a playoff atmosphere, Charles Huff said, man,
- 4:57Speaker 1: we made a statement.
- 5:01Speaker 4: This was a national statement, not just about the score,
- 5:05Speaker 4: not just about the game, but that the Memphis Tiger
- 5:09Speaker 4: community is serious about this program and the direction this
- 5:13Speaker 4: program is going. And we've got a lot of work
- 5:16Speaker 4: to do. I'm not saying that this is the end
- 5:17Speaker 4: of the year. I said it before this game that
- 5:20Speaker 4: it's just one game. But the momentum it created, the
- 5:24Speaker 4: statement that it's making, It's huge. For all of those
- 5:28Speaker 4: people back in Memphis without electric, I hope you smile
- 5:33Speaker 4: a little brighter tomorrow because of what the Tigers were
- 5:36Speaker 4: able to do. To all of the I'm going to
- 5:39Speaker 4: wait and see before I buy my tickets to next week,
- 5:42Speaker 4: the lines will be open tonight. You can buy your
- 5:45Speaker 4: ticket tonight. We should sell this stadium out next week,
- 5:49Speaker 4: not because of the win tonight, but because of who
- 5:52Speaker 4: we are.
- 5:54Speaker 2: We're Memphis.
- 5:54Speaker 4: 901, Grind City, Amen, Semen. Everything about our community that
- 6:03Speaker 4: everyone tries to tear down, we're not. And selling the
- 6:07Speaker 4: stadium out next week, we'll make another national statement.
- 6:12Speaker 2: He's lived there eight months. He talks like he was
- 6:15Speaker 2: born and raised in Memphis. He's lived there eight months.
- 6:19Speaker 3: I told you this, I guess it was when you
- 6:21Speaker 3: were out two weeks ago, that I'm getting ready to
- 6:23Speaker 3: draw a Red Wolf. I feel better about tomorrow. Might
- 6:27Speaker 3: be Arkansas State coming out. This is the ultimate early
- 6:30Speaker 3: season trap game. You go West Coast, now you come back.
- 6:33Speaker 3: You're hosting Arkansas State is right at a 10-point favorite,
- 6:36Speaker 3: and then you've got to go to Boise next week.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Everybody is now pointing at that Boise game saying, Memphis, Boise,
- 6:41Speaker 2: there's your playoff matchup.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, so it's Arkansas State this week coming to the
- 6:44Speaker 1: Liberty Bowl to play Memphis. minus 10 Memphis is the
- 6:48Speaker 1: hard rock bet line minus 10 which seems small considering
- 6:53Speaker 1: what they just did to UNLV but as you said
- 6:56Speaker 1: that could be one of those fun lines happening tomorrow
- 6:58Speaker 1: speaking of our lines we love the partnership that sport
- 7:02Speaker 1: and state has with hard rock bet they'll provide all

- 8:11Speaker 1: That's hardrock.bet backslash clay. Now the other side of the coin.
- 8:17Speaker 1: UNLV loses. Dan Mullen ran out with Elvis. Didn't make
- 8:21Speaker 1: LT happy. Dan Mullen got run out of Florida because...
- 8:27Speaker 1: He dressed up as Darth Vader one time in a
- 8:29Speaker 1: postgame news conference and really rubbed the fan base the
- 8:34Speaker 1: wrong way sometimes. One loss in year two for Dan Mullen,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and this is his postgame commentary to his UNLV fans.
- 8:44Speaker 5: I want to thank all our fans. It was a
- 8:46Speaker 5: great turnout, great atmosphere for game one. I do thank
- 8:50Speaker 5: all the UNLV fans, all the people of Las Vegas.
- 8:53Speaker 5: One tip if they could help me in the future.
- 8:56Speaker 5: We do the wave when we're on defense and we
- 8:58Speaker 5: get really excited when we're on defense and we're a
- 9:00Speaker 5: little bit quieter when we're on offense. That would be
- 9:03Speaker 5: one big plus, our game operations people and everyone in
- 9:06Speaker 5: the stadium.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Just that heads up. Well, I mean, he hasn't changed.
- 9:09Speaker 2: I can coach, but boy, he's unlikable. I mean, really,
- 9:12Speaker 2: I mean, I'd say he can coach, but he's unlikable. Yeah,
- 9:15Speaker 2: that was so I don't want to say it's my fault.
- 9:20Speaker 2: So I'm not going to say it's my fault, even
- 9:21Speaker 2: though I'm the head coach. They did the wave at
- 9:23Speaker 2: the wrong time. I mean, come freaking on. How many
- 9:25Speaker 2: people were at the game? They showed the wide shot
- 9:28Speaker 2: and the lower bowl was the only thing there. What
- 9:31Speaker 2: were there, 30,000 people? Yeah, again, if.
- 9:33Speaker 3: I didn't bother me that he had Elvis out there,
- 9:37Speaker 3: I just thought it was hokey. If I'm a UNLV fan,
- 9:39Speaker 3: I don't know how many of those exist. that it
- 9:41Speaker 3: does bother me that he says things like that. They're like,
- 9:45Speaker 3: why don't you focus on the offensive line getting better
- 9:48Speaker 3: and protecting your quarterback and not focus on how we're
- 9:51Speaker 3: doing the way.
- 9:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Guy's completely unlikable. Now he's a good coach and he'll
- 9:54Speaker 2: win at UNLV and he's going to get the most
- 9:56Speaker 2: out of Jackson Arnold. Uh, but that was to me,
- 10:00Speaker 2: a really bad look in a post game where you
- 10:01Speaker 2: just lost a big home game that was a big home.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Game especially now they go to the island to take
- 10:05Speaker 3: on Hawaii and I don't know what to make Hawaii
- 10:08Speaker 3: after watching them against Stanford but UNLV is only a
- 10:10Speaker 3: two and a half point favorite and UNLV goes 0-2
- 10:12Speaker 3: that would.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Be bad yeah no way even Hawaii Only in the ocean.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got UNLV a three-point favorite right now at
- 10:19Speaker 1: Hard Rock Benton Center. We'll adjust that as we move
- 10:21Speaker 1: throughout the week. I'll move now to Virginia, and I'll
- 10:25Speaker 1: ask the question, did Virginia impress you more than Memphis did?
- 10:31Speaker 1: Virginia playing NC State, and my first impression of this
- 10:36Speaker 1: game was... Boy, we talked C.J. Bailey up a lot
- 10:39Speaker 1: during the summer, and he did not look like he
- 10:42Speaker 1: was ready for action.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Virginia would beat Memphis by 14-plus.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Okay.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Virginia up front, they are dominant right now. Look, and
- 10:49Speaker 3: it might just be ACC.
- 10:51Speaker 2: C.J. Bailey, he couldn't look any worse. I mean, his
- 10:54Speaker 2: worst QBR ever. Everybody told me all summer this guy
- 10:57Speaker 2: was a guy to watch, and boy, he could not
- 10:59Speaker 2: have been worse. And he was really good. It was horrible.
- 11:02Speaker 3: You know, Bo Pribula, uh, you know, I, I know people.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Were doubting this guy. Um, I've been a big.
- 11:08Speaker 3: Fan of this Virginia team and you'll see how big
- 11:10Speaker 3: of a fan at some point this week, but I
- 11:12Speaker 3: had them 21 in our poll.
- 11:13Speaker 2: I thought that might be too low based on schedule.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I thought this was one of those games.
- 11:17Speaker 3: Whoever won would, uh, ultimately maybe be that second team
- 11:21Speaker 3: in the ACC championship game. I ended up playing Virginia
- 11:23Speaker 3: minus the four, four and a half.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Um, But, boy, they were dominant. Dominant.
- 11:29Speaker 1: 168 yards is all NC State had with C.J. Bailey, which,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I mean, people were talking about him with the NFL.
- 11:36Speaker 2: All summer, man. That's all I heard was how good
- 11:38Speaker 2: that guy was going to be.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Not really when he was deciding to run. He didn't
- 11:42Speaker 1: really seem to be hesitant to run. Didn't throw the
- 11:46Speaker 1: ball that great. The protection wasn't fantastic. NC State, Dave
- 11:51Speaker 1: Doran looked like he got outcoached by Tony Elliott. Here's
- 11:53Speaker 1: Tony Elliott after Virginia's big win. Hey, they won 11
- 11:57Speaker 1: last year, and LT said it all summer long. Watch
- 12:00Speaker 1: out for this Virginia team. They're not going anywhere.
- 12:03Speaker 6: I think we just took advantage of the opportunity. It's
- 12:06Speaker 6: what we've been asking for. It's what we've been working for,
- 12:09Speaker 6: an opportunity to show that Virginia can be a destination.
- 12:14Speaker 6: I think the staff came here. You know, people ask
- 12:18Speaker 6: me a lot in my journey and, you know, I
- 12:21Speaker 6: didn't come to Virginia to go somewhere else. I came
- 12:23Speaker 6: to Virginia to build Virginia into a destination for our fans. Man,
- 12:29Speaker 6: I want folks to, man, hey, we can't wait until
- 12:32Speaker 6: Saturdays in the fall to come tailgate, you know, on
- 12:35Speaker 6: grounds before a game in Scott Stadium. And I want
- 12:39Speaker 6: Scott Stadium to be the place where everybody wants to
- 12:41Speaker 6: go watch a game. I want the University of Virginia
- 12:43Speaker 6: football to to be the destination for guys locally right
- 12:47Speaker 6: here in state, but then also guys nationally. So we
- 12:50Speaker 6: just capitalized on an opportunity.
- 12:52Speaker 2: We still got work to, uh, work to do.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Uh, we know that we got to continue to put
- 12:56Speaker 6: a good product on the field, but I think we
- 12:58Speaker 6: kind of showed what the potential, uh, is here at, uh,
- 13:02Speaker 6: at UVA.
- 13:02Speaker 1: And that game was supposed to be in Brazil and
- 13:04Speaker 1: it was sold out and it was a great atmosphere.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Oh, it was, it was their first sellout, I think
- 13:07Speaker 2: since 2006. I would not believe that. How can you
- 13:10Speaker 2: not sell out that small stadium in that amount of time? Yeah.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Um, This is why you– it's a delicate balance because
- 13:16Speaker 3: everybody talks about Cignetti, and in year one they were
- 13:18Speaker 3: able to win 11 games at Indiana. But this is
- 13:22Speaker 3: why you're patient at certain programs because his first three
- 13:25Speaker 3: years he won a combined 11 games. In year four
- 13:27Speaker 3: he wins 11 games. He's got 28 grad students on
- 13:31Speaker 3: that roster. When you look at the offensive line, there
- 13:33Speaker 3: were two guys that are seventh-year guys on that offensive line.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yeah, but you're one of these people now. You're always
- 13:40Speaker 1: throwing Cignetti up at me. Man, he's in his second year.
- 13:42Speaker 1: He's in his third year. But then here's Tony Elliott.
- 13:46Speaker 1: By your standards and truthfully, even by mine, we fired
- 13:49Speaker 1: this guy two years ago.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Look, and that's what I'm saying. Like, it's it's delicate.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know how you work it
- 13:54Speaker 2: because I don't know how you figure which one is which. Like,
- 13:57Speaker 2: can Virginia be Indiana? I mean, I don't know. I
- 14:00Speaker 2: know what you're saying that way. Like. In one sense,
- 14:04Speaker 2: Kurt Cignetti resets the way we ought to treat first-year, second-year,
- 14:07Speaker 2: third-year coaches. One segment we're saying, man, Cignetti did it
- 14:10Speaker 2: in two years. In one sense, I'm with Lance, you've
- 14:12Speaker 2: got to sometimes realize you're Virginia, but you know what?
- 14:14Speaker 2: Indiana didn't realize that they were Indiana. You know, Indiana
- 14:17Speaker 2: was worse than Virginia as a program.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Now, I will say, you know, programs like USC right now,
- 14:21Speaker 3: and I know we'll get to them in a little bit,
- 14:23Speaker 3: they should be like Indiana. Like, you can automatically be
- 14:27Speaker 3: good year one. We'll see what LSU and Lane Kiffin
- 14:29Speaker 3: is able to do this year. I think certain places
- 14:31Speaker 3: like Virginia that still talk about academics, you probably have
- 14:35Speaker 3: to be a little bit more patient, and he's probably making–
- 14:37Speaker 3: a fraction of what some of these other guys are
- 14:39Speaker 3: making as.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Far as a power forward. You can find 11 wins
- 14:41Speaker 2: on that schedule pretty easily. Oh, they're winning 10 games. Yeah.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I mean, that is, that's probably a double digit win team.
- 14:46Speaker 2: You saw Saturday there. Well, and Bo Pribula quarterback, um,
- 14:51Speaker 2: the best he's looked. Oh, he was fantastic. He was fantastic. Like,
- 14:56Speaker 2: I want to say it was after the first quarter,
- 14:58Speaker 2: his average per attempt was like 21.6. I mean, it
- 15:02Speaker 2: was a ridiculous number. Like, he had everything. He just
- 15:06Speaker 2: had all the completions in the first half, everything he wanted.
- 15:09Speaker 2: It scares me.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Is he going to consistently be– I mean, he's 9
- 15:11Speaker 3: of 11, but he only attempted 11. I mean, they
- 15:13Speaker 3: were able to run the full ball at will, 258 yards.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Over 4.5 per carry.
- 15:19Speaker 3: I just wonder if he is going to be able
- 15:21Speaker 3: to throw it consistently consistently Because there's no way he's
- 15:24Speaker 3: going to be able to go out there and run
- 15:25Speaker 3: it 15 times. He runs it 15 times a game.
- 15:28Speaker 3: He's not going to make it 12 games.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Virginia wins it 34-8 over NC State. And Pribula with
- 15:34Speaker 1: 110 rushing yards, 155 passing, and a couple of touchdowns there.
- 15:38Speaker 1: And those were the two biggest games. More college football
- 15:42Speaker 1: coming up in our next segment here on Sport and
- 15:45Speaker 1: State with the folks here at the next round brought
- 15:47Speaker 1: to you by our friends at Hard Rock Bet. I
- 15:49Speaker 1: did want to get to some NFL news in our
- 15:51Speaker 1: opening segment here. rarely do you get to add a
- 15:56Speaker 1: guy considered to be one of the greatest of all
- 15:58Speaker 1: times to your roster this late in the offseason. But
- 16:02Speaker 1: Aaron Donald is coming back one year, $ 20 million deal
- 16:06Speaker 1: with the Rams. And he's expected to give it a
- 16:10Speaker 1: go in the opening game, right? Down in Australia, is
- 16:12Speaker 1: he going to play in that one?
- 16:14Speaker 3: Sean McVay is kind of yellow light on that, I assume, though.
- 16:17Speaker 3: I mean, he's been working out. I don't know why
- 16:19Speaker 3: he wouldn't play at least a handful of snaps. And
- 16:22Speaker 3: This is just a luxury addition for the L.A.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Rams.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I mean, you look at the team last year, a
- 16:26Speaker 3: lot of people believed, although they didn't win a Super Bowl,
- 16:29Speaker 3: it was the best.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Team in football.
- 16:30Speaker 3: You go out, you get Miles Garrett, you get Trent McDuffie,
- 16:32Speaker 3: you get Jalen Watson, and now Aaron Donald after a
- 16:35Speaker 3: two-year layoff comes back. I saw odds to win defensive
- 16:39Speaker 3: player of the year 33-1, exactly what Jared versus Derrick
- 16:44Speaker 3: Stingley Jr. So there's still a ton of respect. Vegas
- 16:48Speaker 3: has his over-under on sacks at 7.5. He should be
- 16:51Speaker 3: a factor this year. Is he going to be as
- 16:53Speaker 3: good as he was two years ago? Probably not, but
- 16:55Speaker 3: if he's 90% of that, he's better than 90% of
- 16:57Speaker 3: the defensive linemen in the NFL right now.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Here's Aaron Donald on the decision to come out of
- 17:02Speaker 1: retirement and rejoin the Rams.
- 17:05Speaker 7: Just having conversations with Sean, obviously, seeing what was being
- 17:10Speaker 7: done with this team, pieces that was getting brought here. Okay,
- 17:15Speaker 7: it's a complete team, and then you see all the
- 17:17Speaker 7: moves they make, and it's like, okay, that's I wish
- 17:21Speaker 7: I was still out there playing right about now. You
- 17:23Speaker 7: have conversations and then kind of start bringing it to fruition.
- 17:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 17:28Speaker 7: And, you know, starting to put myself in a position
- 17:30Speaker 7: to train and get my body to a certain point
- 17:32Speaker 7: where I felt good and see how I move and
- 17:35Speaker 7: see if I still can, you know, do certain things
- 17:37Speaker 7: and felt pretty good, man. And, you know, through my
- 17:41Speaker 7: training for about 13, 14 weeks is just nonstop grinding
- 17:44Speaker 7: and get to where we at right now.
- 17:45Speaker 2: So, you know, Aaron back playing football, I guess, right?
- 17:51Speaker 1: I always love the third person. Aaron's back playing football now.
- 17:54Speaker 2: I mean, this is exciting. I'll let you make fun
- 17:57Speaker 2: of him.
- 17:57Speaker 3: The one thing you don't want is him to come
- 17:59Speaker 3: out and be a shell of himself and kind of
- 18:01Speaker 3: hurt the legacy. I don't think that's going to happen.
- 18:02Speaker 3: The guy's in incredible physical shape. Three-time Defensive Player of
- 18:06Speaker 3: the Year, now paired with the reigning Defensive Player of
- 18:09Speaker 3: the Year in Miles Garrett. And I heard our buddy
- 18:11Speaker 3: Dan Orlovsky talking about It really is nine defenders out
- 18:14Speaker 3: there now because two defenders are going to be held
- 18:17Speaker 3: up by these guys as far as like double teams.
- 18:20Speaker 3: And he's like, it's 11 on nine. And he's like,
- 18:22Speaker 3: it's not even fair. Now, can they stay healthy? Like
- 18:25Speaker 3: if the Rams stay healthy, they're going to be really,
- 18:26Speaker 3: really difficult to beat.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I saw, I think it was Orlovsky had the defensive
- 18:30Speaker 2: front and just by name, Miles Garrett, Aaron Donald, you know,
- 18:34Speaker 2: your defensive front. And all he said was good luck
- 18:37Speaker 2: on third down. Yeah. Seriously, though. Good luck on Thursday.
- 18:40Speaker 1: When they know you're throwing.
- 18:41Speaker 2: When they know you're throwing. Lots of luck on that one.
- 18:43Speaker 3: But Mike Greenberg's got a little done away in him
- 18:45Speaker 3: as far as like landmines. And he was today, he
- 18:47Speaker 3: was like, I cannot believe the Rams are only a
- 18:49Speaker 3: three and a half point favorite against San Francisco.
- 18:51Speaker 2: How are they only a three and a half point
- 18:53Speaker 2: favorite against San Francisco? I can't either.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I mean, what's their win total? 16 and a half?
- 19:00Speaker 2: I did see.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Taylor Luan from Bustin' with the Boys. tweeted out that
- 19:06Speaker 3: the Rams could go undefeated this year.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I mean, come on. Let's settle down.
- 19:09Speaker 3: Our buddy Alexander Shannara sent out going to give the
- 19:12Speaker 3: Rams a Lombardi.
- 19:13Speaker 2: I mean, this is things you hate. You know how
- 19:16Speaker 2: this normally goes. You know how it normally goes when
- 19:18Speaker 2: people do this.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Now, they have dropped to plus 550 to plus, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 3: just 5-1 now to win a Super Bowl, which is
- 19:23Speaker 3: a really, really low, short preseason season.
- 19:27Speaker 2: Super Bowl number.
- 19:27Speaker 1: A couple of notes from cut day. Trey Lance is
- 19:32Speaker 1: backup quarterback for the Chargers. He wins that job over
- 19:35Speaker 1: DJ Uyunglele. Odell Beckham Jr., he's on the Giants roster.
- 19:41Speaker 1: They cut Jalen Hyatt, but they keep Odell Beckham Jr.
- 19:46Speaker 2: Odell was really good in the preseason, though.
- 19:48Speaker 1: Almost like it's 2016 again. Former Chiefs Super Bowl winners,
- 19:54Speaker 1: I believe both of them, Hardman and Valcaz Scantley, both
- 20:00Speaker 1: got cut from Buffalo and Dallas. So those two guys
- 20:03Speaker 1: are gone. Cleveland cut Cedric Tillman. That surprised me.
- 20:07Speaker 2: A little bit. You know, a lot of those names
- 20:09Speaker 2: you mentioned right there are wide receivers, and it just
- 20:11Speaker 2: shows you how quick the game disappears from your wide receiver.
- 20:14Speaker 2: You miss half a step, and you're kind of like,
- 20:16Speaker 2: Meikle Hardman was an important part of those Chiefs Super
- 20:19Speaker 2: Bowl runs. Jalen Hyatt has not been out of Tennessee
- 20:23Speaker 2: too terribly long. I mean, boy, you lose in a
- 20:25Speaker 2: hurry at receiver in the NFL.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Well, and Cedric Tillman was kind of... I mean, it
- 20:29Speaker 3: was on the fence when you go back to May
- 20:31Speaker 3: and Cleveland, their first two selections in the draft, Casey Concepcion.
- 20:35Speaker 2: And Denzel Boston. I mean, they went wide receiver, first
- 20:37Speaker 2: two picks.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Bad day for former Alabama lineman Jedrick Wills gets cut
- 20:44Speaker 1: by Chicago. Evan Neal released by the New York Giants.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Number seven pick at one point, I think.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I thought he'd play forever. I think Wills was a
- 20:51Speaker 1: top ten pick. Trayvon Diggs cut by Seattle. And on
- 20:56Speaker 1: the commissioner's exempt list, Three players, two of which with
- 21:01Speaker 1: Alabama ties, Terion Arnold with his legal troubles, and Josh Jacobs,
- 21:07Speaker 1: the running back. He has two misdemeanors now, but those
- 21:10Speaker 1: were at one point felony charges that now are two
- 21:13Speaker 1: misdemeanor charges as he continues a legal battle. But both
- 21:17Speaker 1: getting paychecks, but they're not able to practice or participate
- 21:23Speaker 1: on the commissioner exempt list. That's your NFL news when
- 21:25Speaker 1: we come back. Speaking of the NFL, Bill Belichick looked
- 21:29Speaker 1: like he was in over his head in the college game.
- 21:31Speaker 1: That may have changed over the weekend. I thought North
- 21:34Speaker 1: Carolina looked good. We'll also give you thoughts on Florida State,
- 21:38Speaker 1: a future Alabama opponent. What's Mike Norvell's future there? And
- 21:42Speaker 1: welcome to North Dakota State. I thought that was a
- 21:44Speaker 1: great atmosphere. All that to come right here on the
- 21:46Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bets here on Sporting State.
- 21:50Speaker 1: The next round presented by Hard Rock Bets on Sporting
- 21:53Speaker 1: State as we roll on. First college team ever to
- 21:57Speaker 1: appear on the sphere out in Las Vegas is the
- 22:02Speaker 1: Ole Miss Rebels. After being in Times Square last week,
- 22:06Speaker 1: they continue their Heisman push. Out on the Sphere, there's
- 22:10Speaker 1: that great Ole Miss helmet in Vegas. And then they
- 22:13Speaker 1: celebrate Trinidad Chambliss and Kiwan Lacy, their quarterback and running
- 22:17Speaker 1: backs who return there. All that on the beautiful Sphere
- 22:21Speaker 1: in Vegas. You like this?
- 22:23Speaker 2: I do, but it shows you those agents held Ole
- 22:25Speaker 2: Miss over the barrel when Lane Kiffin left.
- 22:27Speaker 3: You guys tell me how much tickets are at the
- 22:29Speaker 3: Sphere because we're going out the weekend before Halloween because
- 22:33Speaker 3: the Rams are playing the Raiders.
- 22:34Speaker 2: On the 25th. So I'm going out that weekend.
- 22:37Speaker 3: And I was just looking at concerts and Metallica's playing
- 22:40Speaker 3: the sphere one night that weekend.
- 22:41Speaker 2: There's no telling for that. The average ticket, the average
- 22:45Speaker 2: get in is thirty five hundred dollars. Is it like
- 22:47Speaker 2: that for most of the shows?
- 22:49Speaker 1: The Eagles were doing a residency there.
- 22:52Speaker 3: So that is going to be a lot cheaper because
- 22:53Speaker 3: I think Metallica's got six total dates.
- 22:56Speaker 5: That's right.
- 22:56Speaker 1: So the Eagles, who will pass their prime and they
- 23:01Speaker 1: don't even talk to each other on the stage. They
- 23:03Speaker 1: get along so well.
- 23:04Speaker 2: So there's no storytelling?
- 23:05Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 23:06Speaker 2: $ 600 a ticket, and we were probably.
- 23:13Speaker 1: midway of the very upper deck.
- 23:15Speaker 2: Damn, I bet the Wizard of Oz was $ 150, $ 200.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Jennifer bought those tickets. I'll find out from her.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Well, I think Face was about $ 150 for those.
- 23:22Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty awesome, though. There's no telling what it
- 23:24Speaker 2: costs to get on the outside of the sphere. That's
- 23:27Speaker 2: to get inside it.
- 23:28Speaker 3: I don't know what Ole Miss paid to get on
- 23:29Speaker 3: the outside of it. Are they showing any games there, though?
- 23:32Speaker 3: You know, if they did some marquee games, they probably
- 23:34Speaker 3: could make money showing them there.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe, maybe. Remember, they were going to show the
- 23:38Speaker 1: Super Bowl on the outside, and that got shut down.
- 23:41Speaker 2: The NFL shut it down. People wrecking. Yeah, that's true.
- 23:44Speaker 1: I think it was public safety. The show today being
- 23:47Speaker 1: brought to you by XXXY.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Yeah, that is the tea that launched a movement. Jennifer Say,
- 23:53Speaker 2: she was a former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president.
- 23:56Speaker 2: She walked away from a corporate job rather than say
- 23:59Speaker 2: something she did not believe in. And she started XXXY
- 24:03Speaker 2: Athletics instead. This is their mission. Empower female athletes and
- 24:07Speaker 2: take a stand for fair competition. That's why it's a
- 24:10Speaker 2: T that launched a movement. And it's also why she's
- 24:13Speaker 2: the official XXXY is the official outlet for Nashville Balls Gear,
- 24:17Speaker 2: Clay Travis' future WNBA franchise. XXXY, the official apparel provider
- 24:22Speaker 2: for them. It is real athletic apparel, not just a
- 24:24Speaker 2: slogan on a shirt. We're talking performance tops, tanks, sports bras, leggings, shorts,
- 24:29Speaker 2: training sets. Plus, hoodies, hats, graphic tees. They've got men's
- 24:33Speaker 2: and women's there at XXXY. New customers also get 20%
- 24:37Speaker 2: off your first order when you sign up. Free shipping
- 24:40Speaker 2: for anything more than $ 100. XXXYAthletics.com. That's XX-XYAthletics.com. XXXY. Worn
- 24:50Speaker 2: by athletes who've actually put something on the line.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Listen, the only ranked team that played in Week 0
- 24:56Speaker 1: was USC. They are a playoff contender. They're on more
- 25:00Speaker 1: of a majority of playoff brackets than they're not. Most
- 25:03Speaker 1: people have them, you know, at least 51% or more, majority,
- 25:07Speaker 1: have USC making the playoffs. The thing that the social
- 25:12Speaker 1: media folks couldn't get past was the lack of fans
- 25:15Speaker 1: in the stands at the L.A. Coliseum for this basically
- 25:18Speaker 1: noon local kickoff in August. against San Jose State. This
- 25:24Speaker 1: is at the kickoff.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Yeah, embarrassing.
- 25:27Speaker 1: That's the crowd that's there at the Coliseum. Now, that's
- 25:30Speaker 1: from the press box side where there are more fans
- 25:33Speaker 1: on the press box side than the other side, but still,
- 25:36Speaker 1: that's a shaky crowd. And you're saying, well, it's at
- 25:39Speaker 1: noon against San Jose State. So who's going to really
- 25:44Speaker 1: take time in Los Angeles to go do that? Same
- 25:49Speaker 1: two teams played at the same exact time back in 2009,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and there were 84,325 people in attendance for that USC game.
- 25:59Speaker 2: It is a different era, though.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Once Pete Carroll left, it just started to slowly decline.
- 26:06Speaker 3: And now that Lincoln Riley has taken over this program,
- 26:08Speaker 3: I think there was excitement in year one where they
- 26:10Speaker 3: won 11 games, and you had a Heisman Trophy winner
- 26:12Speaker 3: in Caleb Williams.
- 26:13Speaker 2: But it's fallen off.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Look, and I date a girl that is from Los Angeles,
- 26:16Speaker 3: and when we were watching the game on Saturday– I
- 26:19Speaker 3: was like, man, they have done such a good job
- 26:22Speaker 3: renovating the Coliseum. It looks beautiful. But the problem is
- 26:25Speaker 3: there's so many empty seats. And she said, do you
- 26:27Speaker 3: understand that? There are a million things to do in
- 26:30Speaker 3: Southern California, and we really– we like football, but it's
- 26:33Speaker 3: not like the end-all, be-all. Like, she is shocked at
- 26:35Speaker 3: how immersed we are in football here. She was like,
- 26:38Speaker 3: people are on the beach. It's still August. Like, there
- 26:40Speaker 3: are a couple of weeks left of summer. Like, people
- 26:43Speaker 3: aren't going to a noon game in Los Angeles.
- 26:44Speaker 2: But I think if there was real excitement for this
- 26:47Speaker 2: product and real buy-in, people would have been there.
- 26:49Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think– I mean, 2009, same team, same matchup, 84,000.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Yeah, but now– College football has become increasingly a watch-on-my-couch
- 26:58Speaker 2: sport since then, to Lance's point. I don't think this
- 27:00Speaker 2: is all a statement on where Lincoln Riley is, but
- 27:05Speaker 2: some of it is.
- 27:07Speaker 3: I think some of it is, but again, it is
- 27:09Speaker 3: a pain in the ass to get anywhere in Los
- 27:11Speaker 3: Angeles and to go watch a team that was a
- 27:14Speaker 3: 38.5-point favorite. People get there late, they leave early. It
- 27:19Speaker 3: wasn't a formula for a big crowd. I was surprised
- 27:22Speaker 3: at how light the crowd was. I don't think it's
- 27:24Speaker 3: going to get any better this Friday night for Fresno State,
- 27:27Speaker 3: maybe a little bit better.
- 27:28Speaker 2: The other part of this, this should be a, and
- 27:31Speaker 2: it won't be because college athletics doesn't pay attention to
- 27:34Speaker 2: things like this. It should be a warning to everybody.
- 27:36Speaker 2: You can't just anymore roll out the San Jose States
- 27:39Speaker 2: of the world and people are going to come watch.
- 27:41Speaker 2: You can't just play these crappy out-of-conference schedules and just because, oh,
- 27:45Speaker 2: we're USC, people are going to come watch. It's going
- 27:47Speaker 2: to be a million degrees in Tuscaloosa Saturday. There'll be
- 27:50Speaker 2: empty seats at Bryant-Denny Stadium because they're playing East Carolina.
- 27:52Speaker 2: It's a terrible game. You can't keep playing these games
- 27:56Speaker 2: and just expect in this world where there is so
- 27:59Speaker 2: much competition for your time that people are just going
- 28:02Speaker 2: to roll out and see it no matter what because
- 28:03Speaker 2: you're USC.
- 28:04Speaker 3: First half, they look like a playoff team. Second half,
- 28:06Speaker 3: they look pathetic. Now, they played a lot of twos
- 28:09Speaker 3: and threes, especially the threes in the fourth quarter. I
- 28:11Speaker 3: didn't really understand that. I don't know how you guys
- 28:13Speaker 3: feel about this, but if I'm Gary Patterson and I'm
- 28:15Speaker 3: trying to build... what we believe is going to be
- 28:19Speaker 3: a dominant defense or a much better defense, I'll let
- 28:22Speaker 3: these guys stay in there.
- 28:23Speaker 2: You're up 28-0 at the half.
- 28:25Speaker 3: You're up 35-3 after three quarters, and then you bring
- 28:28Speaker 3: in all the threes, and they completely fall apart and
- 28:31Speaker 3: give up 23 points in the fourth quarter.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Well, you've got to build a little depth, first off,
- 28:34Speaker 1: but it's a long season. You don't want your ones
- 28:36Speaker 1: to get hurt in a meaningless 35-3 part of the game.
- 28:39Speaker 1: They're not going to lose the game. Here is Lincoln
- 28:42Speaker 1: Riley afterwards. on just what you're talking about, how unhappy
- 28:46Speaker 1: he was with the way the team finished and what
- 28:48Speaker 1: should have been a dominating day for USC in their
- 28:51Speaker 1: 42-26 win over San Jose State.
- 28:55Speaker 8: Fourth quarter, not up to our standards.
- 28:56Speaker 1: Obviously, we played a bunch of different guys.
- 28:58Speaker 2: A bunch of guys got.
- 28:59Speaker 8: Opportunities, and we had several that did not play the
- 29:04Speaker 8: way that we anticipated, and there'll be a lot to
- 29:05Speaker 8: learn and grow from it because we're going to need
- 29:08Speaker 8: the depth of this roster, and we challenged that in
- 29:10Speaker 8: the fourth quarter, and it obviously didn't respond the way
- 29:13Speaker 8: we want it. So, you know, games like this, I just,
- 29:16Speaker 8: I take it for what it is, right? You don't,
- 29:18Speaker 8: you don't, you don't hide behind the fact that the
- 29:20Speaker 8: fourth quarter wasn't good enough. And also not going to
- 29:23Speaker 8: pretend like that we didn't dominate the game to three
- 29:25Speaker 8: quarters and obviously pull a bunch of our starters and
- 29:27Speaker 8: all that.
- 29:28Speaker 3: So they were missing three starters that should be back
- 29:31Speaker 3: Friday night against Fresno State.
- 29:32Speaker 2: They played 15 true freshmen.
- 29:34Speaker 3: The thing I was excited about seeing is like King
- 29:37Speaker 3: Miller and Wayman Jordan knew they'd be able to run
- 29:39Speaker 3: the football the year because you started to see flashes
- 29:42Speaker 3: of that last year but when you lose guys like
- 29:44Speaker 3: Makai limited Jacoby Lane who are going to be starters
- 29:46Speaker 3: in the NFL at wide receiver who do you replace
- 29:48Speaker 3: them with a ton of freshmen Trent Mosley who's brothers
- 29:51Speaker 3: with Emmett Mosley from Texas is going to be an
- 29:54Speaker 3: absolute stud. I don't know how much of that game
- 29:56Speaker 3: you guys got to watch, but as a true freshman,
- 29:58Speaker 3: he had 118 receiving yards.
- 30:00Speaker 2: He had a 41-yard punt return. He's just very, very shifty.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I thought USC did what they were supposed to do.
- 30:08Speaker 2: The other defensive line did not look good, though.
- 30:11Speaker 1: The other big takeaway from the weekend was how good
- 30:16Speaker 1: Bill Belichick and North Carolina looked coaching-wise. They looked more
- 30:23Speaker 1: They looked more like they were taking care of business
- 30:28Speaker 1: as a program in this game against TCU in their win.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I was more impressed with Belichick, and I know Petrino's
- 30:36Speaker 1: offense didn't put up a lot of numbers, but they
- 30:38Speaker 1: got enough to win a game against TCU, who a
- 30:41Speaker 1: lot of people had as a sneaky dark horse team
- 30:42Speaker 1: in the Big 12. I know it was 15-10, but
- 30:45Speaker 1: I thought that was a big, big plus day for
- 30:48Speaker 1: Bill Belichick. When you consider in this same game last year,
- 30:51Speaker 1: UNC got ran off the field in their home stadium.
- 30:55Speaker 1: It does appear that they've gotten better year over year.
- 30:58Speaker 1: And maybe some of this is Belichick's defense.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I'll wait and see. But through week zero, through week zero,
- 31:04Speaker 2: I don't know that there's a team in a power
- 31:08Speaker 2: conference that's going to have a bigger gap from their
- 31:09Speaker 2: quarterback play last year to their quarterback play this year
- 31:12Speaker 2: than TCU. Jaden Craig is not very good. He's awful.
- 31:17Speaker 2: He's not very good. Look, they did score 10 points
- 31:20Speaker 2: in the first quarter. How many did they end with?
- 31:23Speaker 9: 10 points.
- 31:24Speaker 3: And they did have those two fourth and shorts, and
- 31:27Speaker 3: Brown immediately texted me, and I agreed they should have
- 31:29Speaker 3: taken the three.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And then after the fact, Sonny Dykes is like, we
- 31:31Speaker 2: should have taken the three. Yeah, Sonny Dykes did his
- 31:33Speaker 2: team no favors. Yeah, you win the game there.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Bill Belichick, who's pretty good at coaching, won a few
- 31:39Speaker 1: NFL games, that first drive, boom, very easily could have
- 31:44Speaker 1: gone for it. right he kicks the field goal he
- 31:46Speaker 1: takes three points because he knew what kind of game
- 31:48Speaker 1: it was going to be by the way it's the
- 31:50Speaker 1: first quarter that's right take points in the first quarter
- 31:52Speaker 1: yeah and sonny dykes had opportunities he knew what kind
- 31:55Speaker 1: of game this was third quarter any points.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Held 15 to 10 you know it's a low scoring
- 31:58Speaker 2: game it's 15 to 10.
- 32:00Speaker 3: In the third quarter their kryptonite has been converting third
- 32:02Speaker 3: downs in the entire game why would you not take
- 32:04Speaker 3: the points in that situation.
- 32:06Speaker 2: They're given to you and then you win the game.
- 32:08Speaker 3: If you would have taken the points in that situation
- 32:10Speaker 3: um That was just an ugly game.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I would put North Carolina's win total now at four
- 32:15Speaker 2: and a half.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Yeah, their schedule is brutal.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's four or five wins. I mean,
- 32:19Speaker 2: it's a nice win. They're going to be improved.
- 32:21Speaker 3: I agree that Jaden Craig is a big downgrade from
- 32:24Speaker 3: Josh Hoover.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Big downgrade.
- 32:26Speaker 3: But a big upgrade of Reggio Lopez is going to
- 32:28Speaker 3: be Billy Edwards if he can stay healthy. I mean,
- 32:31Speaker 3: I don't think they're going to be very good offensively,
- 32:33Speaker 3: but defensively they are.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Improved, no doubt. Yeah, I left that game thinking North
- 32:37Speaker 2: Carolina looks better, but the record's probably not going to
- 32:40Speaker 2: show how much better they look. because of that schedule.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Brutal schedule.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And the other half of it is I just don't
- 32:46Speaker 2: know where TCU– that TCU team, they could get better.
- 32:50Speaker 2: That TCU team where they find Big 12 wins because
- 32:52Speaker 2: you're going to have to score some points, I think,
- 32:53Speaker 2: to win in the Big 12. They're not going to
- 32:55Speaker 2: score many points.
- 32:56Speaker 3: The other thing that jumped out, whoever the official was
- 32:58Speaker 3: closest to me on the couch could not spot a
- 33:01Speaker 3: ball to save their life.
- 33:02Speaker 2: That same drive. Like she was behind the play and
- 33:07Speaker 2: comes running up and signals first down. I'm like, I don't–
- 33:10Speaker 2: He might have gotten to the line of the game, but, boy,
- 33:12Speaker 2: we're already doing this right here. Boy, and she spotted
- 33:14Speaker 2: one up a yard and a half short.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I know.
- 33:15Speaker 2: And then on that same drive, and this was a
- 33:18Speaker 2: pretty key drive. It was the one where they ended
- 33:20Speaker 2: up having to go for the fourth down. The first
- 33:22Speaker 2: down that they got that led to that fourth down,
- 33:24Speaker 2: the dude comes nowhere close to the first down. It
- 33:26Speaker 2: was nonstop on the spots. Did you notice that?
- 33:31Speaker 1: I saw her. She missed a couple of calls.
- 33:32Speaker 2: Yeah. Bad spots. Bad spots. And was behind the play.
- 33:36Speaker 2: And those were key first downs, too. I mean, that
- 33:38Speaker 2: was in a drive. where TCU was driving down to either.
- 33:42Speaker 2: They ended up having to go 4-0, 4-0 down because
- 33:44Speaker 2: they didn't kick the field goal earlier. Could have been
- 33:46Speaker 2: their game-winning drive. Boy, Josh Heupel would hate to see
- 33:49Speaker 2: her officiate one of his games. I mean, she's slow, too.
- 33:51Speaker 2: She was. I mean, it was terrible.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I thought the North Dakota State atmosphere was unbelievable, by
- 33:58Speaker 1: the way. They came running out. It was a great
- 34:01Speaker 1: camera shot. Low cameras at the Fargo Dome. I know
- 34:05Speaker 1: you hate that.
- 34:06Speaker 2: Smaller school, though. I'll give them a break.
- 34:07Speaker 1: But the lights are out. The fire is going. They're
- 34:10Speaker 1: running through the fire coming out for their first ever
- 34:13Speaker 1: FBS game. They blitzed Jack State 33-7, 373 yards rushing.
- 34:19Speaker 1: But it just looked the part. I don't know what
- 34:21Speaker 1: North Dakota State will be this year, but in game one,
- 34:23Speaker 1: they look like they belong.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I'll go on and say they're your group six rep. Whoa. Whoa, really?
- 34:29Speaker 2: Not going to be surprised at all. I don't know
- 34:31Speaker 2: who that team is. Boise and Memphis. Oh, I know.
- 34:34Speaker 3: Yeah, Memphis schedule way too difficult. Way too difficult. I
- 34:37Speaker 3: think Boise schedule might be too difficult. I mean, the
- 34:39Speaker 3: problem for North Dakota State, they've got to get a UNLV.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I think that's their loss. I think they're 11-1 or 10-2.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I really do.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Now, whether that gets them in, I have no idea.
- 34:49Speaker 3: But I was very impressed with the defense. Did think
- 34:51Speaker 3: the turning point was that 44-yard touchdown play Like the
- 34:55Speaker 3: cornerback made a terrible, terrible play there.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Yeah, the turning point is, first of all, Charles Kelly.
- 35:00Speaker 2: But that going 17-7 was a massive difference. Charles Kelly,
- 35:04Speaker 2: the Jacksonville State coach, did a poor job preparing his
- 35:05Speaker 2: team for the environment. That's number one. They were not
- 35:07Speaker 2: prepared for the environment. They lost their composure and they melted. Again,
- 35:11Speaker 2: you're in the second quarter. It is a 10-7 game.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You've got fourth and short. Take the freaking points. They
- 35:19Speaker 2: go for it on fourth down, miss the fourth down,
- 35:21Speaker 2: then give up a 92-yard drive, I think it was.
- 35:24Speaker 2: where the safety did come over and try to make
- 35:27Speaker 2: the pick, and it ends up being a touchdown. 17-7
- 35:30Speaker 2: at the half. Poor job by Jacksonville State coach Charles
- 35:32Speaker 2: Kelly having his team prepared. He's got to do better
- 35:34Speaker 2: than that. But I would say great moment for North
- 35:38Speaker 2: Dakota State. I mean, that's their first game there. Their
- 35:40Speaker 2: fans showed up, packed that little joint out, and made
- 35:43Speaker 2: it a tough place to play.
- 35:44Speaker 3: Boy, Charles Kelly's got to clean it up. Eight penalties,
- 35:46Speaker 3: two turnovers. I thought they were bad. Caden Krill looked horrible,
- 35:50Speaker 3: quarterback position. But, again, North Dakota State, there was a
- 35:53Speaker 3: reason going into that game their win total was 9.5,
- 35:56Speaker 3: one of the highest win totals in college football.
- 35:59Speaker 2: And, boy, they did not disappoint.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Worst rushing totals and worst points for Jack State since
- 36:06Speaker 1: they joined the FBS, just 170 yards. offense there all
- 36:11Speaker 1: right that's week zero we start looking ahead to the
- 36:13Speaker 1: massive week one which gets underway starting Thursday night we
- 36:18Speaker 1: still have a little SEC versus really LSU but SEC
- 36:22Speaker 1: versus NFL players coming back to talk about on the
- 36:24Speaker 1: show and a ton of other stuff to get through
- 36:27Speaker 1: as we continue uh here on sport and stay for
- 36:30Speaker 1: another 90 minutes but then of course the next round
- 36:33Speaker 1: follows two hours after that on the next round platform
- 36:36Speaker 1: glad to have you along when we come back Alabama
- 36:39Speaker 1: has named a place kicker, and it isn't really exciting
- 36:43Speaker 1: a ton of people, but if you're in camp, you
- 36:46Speaker 1: know he's the best kicker. We'll tell you the decision.
- 36:49Speaker 1: And Clemson LSU, a sneak peek at the biggest game
- 36:52Speaker 1: of the weekend coming up when we return on the
- 36:55Speaker 1: next round presented by Hard Rock Bets right here on
- 36:57Speaker 1: Sporting State.
- 36:59Speaker 2: What a weekend down at Auburn. Auburn, Alabama.
- 37:02Speaker 1: They had an unbelievable opportunity to get two nights of
- 37:05Speaker 1: the hottest star in country music right now. Really one
- 37:08Speaker 1: of the ones in pop music. Ella Langley did back-to-back
- 37:13Speaker 1: sellout nights in Neville Arena. Albie was on stage and
- 37:19Speaker 1: You know, that's her part of the country. She was
- 37:21Speaker 1: an Auburn student. She have an Auburn degree. I don't
- 37:23Speaker 1: know if she got a degree or not, but she
- 37:24Speaker 1: was an Auburn student. She's a 5U there. So two
- 37:27Speaker 1: nights and Ella packed out the Neville Arena, the basketball
- 37:32Speaker 1: arena on the Auburn campus there. And everybody who went
- 37:36Speaker 1: said it was a great show. She even between dates there.
- 37:40Speaker 1: spent some time in the Phi Mu house where she
- 37:42Speaker 1: was a Phi Mu.
- 37:44Speaker 2: But that was a scene.
- 37:46Speaker 3: We get some good country gossip, and I've heard she's
- 37:48Speaker 3: an extremely nice person.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I've heard the same. I think she's got some
- 37:54Speaker 2: pretty good roots here in Alabama. A little pitchy to me, dog.
- 37:57Speaker 2: You don't like her stuff? It blows up. It's killing
- 38:00Speaker 2: right now.
- 38:01Speaker 1: We'll see if anyone's choosing Texas to be the national
- 38:05Speaker 1: championship when we unveil our playoff bracket. tomorrow here on
- 38:09Speaker 1: the show our picks for the upcoming season we'd love
- 38:12Speaker 1: to see yours as well thank you guys for the
- 38:14Speaker 1: uh bold prediction friday a lot of input there even
- 38:18Speaker 1: after the show on our social platforms at next round

- 39:25Speaker 2: CrockettCoffee.com.
- 39:26Speaker 1: That's C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T. CrockettCoffee.com. To the surprise of a lot of
- 39:33Speaker 1: Alabama fans, Connor Talti is once again your kicker. He
- 39:39Speaker 1: will kick field goals and extra points. And Lorcan Quinn,
- 39:42Speaker 1: who some people thought would win the job, will be
- 39:44Speaker 1: handling kickoffs. Talti caught some heat. early last year but
- 39:49Speaker 1: i thought he's really good down the stretch maybe his
- 39:51Speaker 1: biggest moment in an alabama uniform a couple of key
- 39:54Speaker 1: kicks in the win over oklahoma on the road in
- 39:57Speaker 1: the playoffs.
- 39:57Speaker 2: And that was when their kicker the short britches wearing
- 40:00Speaker 2: guy actually kind of fell apart talty actually was the
- 40:03Speaker 2: better kicker in that game that guy was the grosser
- 40:04Speaker 2: award he was he was the best kicker in america
- 40:07Speaker 2: you know the only thing that surprised me a little
- 40:10Speaker 2: bit as i talked to a I talked to somebody
- 40:14Speaker 2: that was at one of the early scrimmages, and he
- 40:17Speaker 2: told me that the kid from Ireland that you mentioned,
- 40:20Speaker 2: the Quinn kid, was almost unshakable. Like, at the end
- 40:25Speaker 2: of practice, he was the one that was doing the kicking.
- 40:27Speaker 2: They were doing the drill where they try to throw
- 40:29Speaker 2: the guy off, and if he makes everything, they don't
- 40:31Speaker 2: have to do wind sprints or something like that. You know,
- 40:33Speaker 2: whatever it is. You know what I'm talking about. And
- 40:35Speaker 2: that that guy was nails. And he's like, after watching
- 40:38Speaker 2: Talty last year, I'll be stunned if this guy doesn't
- 40:40Speaker 2: win the job. I mean, Talty was okay.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Um it got really good down the stretch i thought
- 40:45Speaker 3: just seems like such a job from will reichert oh
- 40:48Speaker 3: it is a drop yeah well reicher was one of
- 40:50Speaker 3: those inside of 50 it was just automatic and you
- 40:53Speaker 3: didn't really see that early in saban's career you know
- 40:56Speaker 3: saban had some some shaky ass kickers.
- 40:58Speaker 2: It cost him probably some national championships at some point.
- 41:01Speaker 3: And i mean caitlin abor is already kind of an
- 41:03Speaker 3: aggressive coach when it comes to you know fourth and
- 41:05Speaker 3: two fourth and three but I don't know how much
- 41:08Speaker 3: Alabama fans are going to trust Talty, like just automatically
- 41:11Speaker 3: between 40 and 45.
- 41:13Speaker 2: What do you do in that situation? I think a
- 41:15Speaker 2: lot of Alabama fans would like to see the offense
- 41:17Speaker 2: stay on the field. You mentioned that he got off
- 41:19Speaker 2: to a shaky start. He did. He was next to
- 41:21Speaker 2: last in the SEC in terms of field goal percentage.
- 41:25Speaker 2: With that said, he missed one kick in November, December,
- 41:28Speaker 2: and January. That's right. So by the end of the year,
- 41:31Speaker 2: he was much better than where he started the year.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and then maybe he's carried that over into the year.
- 41:36Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see for the other fan bases
- 41:41Speaker 1: after the 53-man rosters and all the cuts happened yesterday,
- 41:45Speaker 1: if anybody's going to jump on trying to sign these
- 41:48Speaker 1: NFL guys. Interesting for Alabama, Jam Miller gets cut. Do
- 41:53Speaker 1: you make a run and try to get Jam Miller back?
- 41:57Speaker 2: Didn't show me anything last year. I mean, I don't know.
- 41:59Speaker 2: I mean, why even join the controversy? I'm with Lance.
- 42:03Speaker 2: I don't know that he's the guy you want to risk.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Whatever you risk to get in this controversy, I don't
- 42:10Speaker 2: think he's the guy.
- 42:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if he felt like he's a 1,000-yard guy, yeah. Yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 3: I mean, 100%, but I just didn't see that last year.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Over the weekend, we hear the SEC first is going
- 42:18Speaker 1: to abide by the restraining order in the Louisiana judge,
- 42:22Speaker 1: but that doesn't mean they're not going to fight it.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Greg Sankey and the folks in the other side of
- 42:29Speaker 1: that suit will be in court defending the fact that
- 42:33Speaker 1: the conference is a voluntary association and can have rules.
- 42:37Speaker 1: that LSU needs to abide by. I get the feeling
- 42:41Speaker 1: by the time we kick things off this weekend, obviously
- 42:43Speaker 1: court case is Thursday morning. There are games Thursday night.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I have a feeling that by the time we get
- 42:49Speaker 1: to the LSU game this weekend, that the LSU NFL
- 42:53Speaker 1: players will not play.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Well, as Lane Kiffin himself pointed out to Pete Thamel
- 42:56Speaker 2: this morning, your official roster for a Saturday game is
- 42:59Speaker 2: due Friday. as Jim just said, the actual hearing is Friday.
- 43:04Speaker 2: I wouldn't think you would have any sort of resolution
- 43:07Speaker 2: in time. Thursday, I think, is the hearing. I thought
- 43:08Speaker 2: you said Friday. I'm sorry, is it Thursday? Maybe you would,
- 43:11Speaker 2: but they've got to have their active roster in to
- 43:13Speaker 2: the conference by Friday. So I wouldn't think you would
- 43:17Speaker 2: see these guys on active. And even Lane Kiffin was like,
- 43:20Speaker 2: they can practice, but right now they cannot play. So
- 43:23Speaker 2: it sounded like Lane Kiffin himself is not even thinking
- 43:25Speaker 2: about this.
- 43:26Speaker 1: And as far as the tenor of how everyone feels
- 43:29Speaker 1: about this, Eli Drinkwitz, who plays Thursday night, had this
- 43:33Speaker 1: to say over the weekend. This is Saturday.
- 43:36Speaker 9: I got a lot to say on the subject, but
- 43:39Speaker 9: I've been saying this for three years now, that college
- 43:41Speaker 9: football and college athletics is not in a great place,
- 43:45Speaker 9: and it's a direct reflection of our inability as leaders
- 43:50Speaker 9: to come up with a plan. We spent all summer
- 43:53Speaker 9: politicking a Save College Sports Act, And then at the
- 43:57Speaker 9: last moment, we all tried to get behind it.
- 43:58Speaker 2: And that's not how Washington, D.C.
- 44:00Speaker 9: Works. We've been trying to do it for six years
- 44:02Speaker 9: and it took a while to get it, you know,
- 44:03Speaker 9: to even get on board. And now you see the results.
- 44:07Speaker 9: You know, if that if that bill has passed, this
- 44:09Speaker 9: stuff is not happening right now. The season's kicked off
- 44:12Speaker 9: and we have no we do not know what the
- 44:16Speaker 9: rules are for eligibility.
- 44:19Speaker 2: That's embarrassing, man.
- 44:20Speaker 9: This is the second biggest sport in college in the
- 44:23Speaker 9: world in the United States. It's the second biggest sport
- 44:25Speaker 9: in the United States. Most watched sport in the United States.
- 44:29Speaker 9: And for us to be operating like this is a
- 44:30Speaker 9: complete clown show.
- 44:31Speaker 1: 100%.
- 44:33Speaker 2: I mean, we've already kicked off the games. I agree.
- 44:35Speaker 2: And we don't know what the eligibility is. That is
- 44:38Speaker 2: how DC works. He's right about that, yeah. Yeah, I agree.
- 44:42Speaker 2: I mean, it seems like. Once the Big Ten and
- 44:47Speaker 2: the SEC said, we're not doing this, that you just
- 44:50Speaker 2: let it go.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Yeah, well, there are legal reasons why you have to,
- 44:54Speaker 1: you know, agree to adhere to the restraining order until
- 44:58Speaker 1: you get your chance to voice your side of the opinion,
- 45:00Speaker 1: and they'll do that Thursday, and then they will get
- 45:03Speaker 1: a ruling on this. Meanwhile, at Baton Rouge, Lane Kiffin
- 45:07Speaker 1: decided to, hey, let's do a whole mock game day
- 45:10Speaker 1: so we can, you know, we've got 60-something new players.
- 45:14Speaker 1: So down at Tiger Stadium this weekend, getting ready for Clemson,
- 45:17Speaker 1: they did the whole mock game day where they walk
- 45:21Speaker 1: the band and the cheerleaders walk down the avenue up
- 45:24Speaker 1: from the campus down to Tiger Stadium like they'll do
- 45:28Speaker 1: on game day.
- 45:29Speaker 2: And then.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Lane's walking. The team's walking. Everybody's getting ready for next
- 45:33Speaker 1: weekend when they'll be doing this for real. I was
- 45:36Speaker 1: impressed some of the fans came out.
- 45:38Speaker 2: I know. Way more people out watching this than I
- 45:40Speaker 2: would have imagined. They know it wasn't a real game. Yeah,
- 45:42Speaker 2: this would have felt different with Brian Kelly. It would
- 45:45Speaker 2: have been. You're right.
- 45:46Speaker 1: So a little mock game day. What are you making?
- 45:48Speaker 1: Early read on LSU and Clemson. I guess the LSU
- 45:54Speaker 1: is what's the hard rock? Nine and a half. is
- 45:58Speaker 1: the line at Hard Rock Bets right now.
- 46:00Speaker 2: My initial blush is Clemson covers, LSU wins.
- 46:03Speaker 1: So a close, entertaining game. 6.30 Central, 7.30. on Eastern
- 46:08Speaker 1: on ABC. Yeah, I mean, I think it's right around
- 46:10Speaker 1: the number. I don't feel really good on this game
- 46:12Speaker 1: either way. I do think LSU's going to win this game.
- 46:15Speaker 1: I think Clemson's going to be better than advertised. We've
- 46:17Speaker 1: kind of talked about that. How good's Vazina going to
- 46:19Speaker 1: be if, in fact, he is the guy, which I
- 46:21Speaker 1: assume he is going to be the guy. Well, the
- 46:22Speaker 1: word comes out that it looks like Vazina will be
- 46:25Speaker 1: the starter, though not one has been officially announced by
- 46:27Speaker 1: Dabo yet.
- 46:28Speaker 2: I'm stunned if it's not him. Stunned if it's not him.
- 46:31Speaker 2: And it's at least his second start now. It's by
- 46:32Speaker 2: far and away his most difficult start. His other one
- 46:34Speaker 2: was on the road at SMU. That crowd And Gerald R.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Ford Stadium will be nothing like he'll face in what
- 46:40Speaker 2: should be just a wild atmosphere.
- 46:42Speaker 1: But in that one start against SMU, pretty good team.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Three touchdowns, 317 yards.
- 46:47Speaker 2: Yeah, he was good. I mean, like, if you get
- 46:48Speaker 2: anywhere close to that out of him Saturday night, you're thrilled.
- 46:52Speaker 2: But this is just a different world for him. Gerald R.
- 46:54Speaker 2: Ford Stadium in Dallas, nice little stadium. Tiger Stadium in
- 46:58Speaker 2: Baton Rouge, different world. And he'll have to manage. I
- 47:00Speaker 2: don't know who it was over the weekend.
- 47:02Speaker 3: I was listening to some analyst and he was like,
- 47:04Speaker 3: I think this is the most dynamic quarterback Lane Kiffin's
- 47:06Speaker 3: ever had.
- 47:07Speaker 2: And I'm like, We just saw Jackson Dart.
- 47:09Speaker 3: Like, I don't think Sam Levitt's going to be as
- 47:11Speaker 3: good as Jackson Dart.
- 47:12Speaker 2: I could be wrong.
- 47:13Speaker 1: If he's better than Jackson Dart, watch out. If he's
- 47:15Speaker 1: as good as Matt Corral, it'll be pretty good. But
- 47:17Speaker 1: Matt Corral wasn't bad under Lane Kiffin.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I would call Trinidad. Oh, and Trinidad. Trinidad Jameis was
- 47:22Speaker 2: fairly dynamic to me. Yeah, actually, Trinidad was better than
- 47:24Speaker 2: Jackson Dart. Yeah, yeah. So that's quite the statement if
- 47:27Speaker 2: Sam Levitt is the most dynamic quarterback Lane Kiffin's ever had.
- 47:30Speaker 2: I just wonder the internal pressure on LSU.
- 47:33Speaker 3: Like, they know they've got to be good immediately and
- 47:35Speaker 3: how much that's going to factor in.
- 47:37Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah.
- 47:37Speaker 1: That's one of the big games coming up this weekend.
- 47:40Speaker 1: We'll talk point spreads and some of the other ones
- 47:43Speaker 1: coming up in the next round version of the show.
- 47:46Speaker 1: But other than Clemson at LSU on Saturday night, to
- 47:50Speaker 1: me the most intriguing other game happens to be a
- 47:53Speaker 1: Sunday game, Louisville playing Ole Miss up in Nashville. Well,
- 47:57Speaker 1: I have Ole Miss as a, compared to the other lines,
- 48:00Speaker 1: a skinny six-and-a-half point favorite. At our neutral site game,
- 48:04Speaker 1: there should be probably as many Louisville fans there as
- 48:06Speaker 1: Ole Miss fans.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I would think so.
- 48:09Speaker 3: That's a terrifying game for Pete Golding. And that's one
- 48:11Speaker 3: of those, you know, Jeff Brom can coach, obviously. He's
- 48:14Speaker 3: never won, like, at the highest level as far as championships.
- 48:18Speaker 3: But he's right there in the mix. I think a
- 48:20Speaker 3: lot of people believe this Louisville team is the second
- 48:22Speaker 3: best team in the ACC. Boy, they could make a statement,
- 48:25Speaker 3: and it would be an awful loss. Although it is
- 48:28Speaker 3: a top 25 team, maybe a team that ends up
- 48:30Speaker 3: being in the college football playoff, On the surface, week
- 48:33Speaker 3: one would be a terrible loss for Pete Golding.
- 48:35Speaker 2: You know, after week zero, the big reaction is, I
- 48:38Speaker 2: still think Miami's going to win the ACC championship, but
- 48:40Speaker 2: they may have to beat Virginia in the conference championship game.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I think that's, a lot of people have started to
- 48:45Speaker 2: find the path for Virginia there. Let Louisville win this game,
- 48:48Speaker 2: and that all changes. Louisville wins this game, and then
- 48:50Speaker 2: everybody assumes, well, Miami's going to have to beat Louisville
- 48:53Speaker 2: to win the ACC championship. And I'm like Lance, it
- 48:55Speaker 2: would just be the Pete Golding era game. officially starting
- 48:59Speaker 2: that way would be horribly deflating for Ole Miss.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Joel Klatt will be on our show coming up after
- 49:05Speaker 1: our sport and state segment today. Joel with us at
- 49:08Speaker 1: 12.05 Central, 1.05 Eastern on the Next Round platform at
- 49:13Speaker 1: Next Round Live on YouTube and all the socials. Before
- 49:16Speaker 1: we end our one here i did want to bring
- 49:19Speaker 1: up the fact that scotty scheffler won the fedex cup
- 49:23Speaker 1: and has already passed now tiger woods with career on
- 49:27Speaker 1: course earnings that doesn't mean scheffler's worth more money than
- 49:30Speaker 1: tiger woods because of you know sponsorships and all the
- 49:34Speaker 1: business deals tiger has but Scheffler has now, on the course,
- 49:38Speaker 1: won more money than Tiger Woods.
- 49:40Speaker 2: Which is horribly misleading because they play for more now.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Because of Tiger Woods. Because of Tiger Woods, yeah, and Liv.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Two things, Tiger Woods and Liv. But you can do
- 49:51Speaker 2: a lot of over the last three years or in
- 49:54Speaker 2: his first X amount of starts or through X amount
- 49:58Speaker 2: of majors. And Scotty Scheffler's numbers compare favorably with Tiger Woods,
- 50:01Speaker 2: which I never thought we'd ever see anybody do again. Now,
- 50:04Speaker 2: can he maintain that? We'll have to wait and see.
- 50:06Speaker 2: But he compares favorably with him thus far through his career.
- 50:11Speaker 2: But this is the point where Tiger even took it
- 50:13Speaker 2: to a next level. And we'll see if Scheffler can
- 50:15Speaker 2: do that. How different would the money be if Tiger
- 50:17Speaker 2: never existed? It'd still be good. I mean, the thing
- 50:20Speaker 2: that accelerated the most, though, was Liv. I mean, Tiger
- 50:22Speaker 2: helped it a ton because of the TV ratings. Yeah,
- 50:24Speaker 2: but I'm saying does Liv even exist? Liv may not. Yeah,
- 50:27Speaker 2: I don't know. That's a great question. Arnold Palmer helped it.
- 50:31Speaker 2: Jack Nicklaus helped it. Tiger really helped it. And then
- 50:34Speaker 2: Liv accelerated it even more because they had to, you know,
- 50:38Speaker 2: they had to do something. I mean, we looked at
- 50:40Speaker 2: the sphere at Ole Miss. Why is Ole Miss doing
- 50:41Speaker 2: that on the sphere? Because they think Chambliss and Lacey
- 50:44Speaker 2: could win the Heisman? Maybe. They're doing it because they
- 50:46Speaker 2: wanted to keep Chambliss and Lacey. And they promised those guys,
- 50:49Speaker 2: we will do a massive Heisman campaign for you guys.
- 50:52Speaker 2: So now it's been Times Square and the sphere in
- 50:54Speaker 2: Las Vegas. I would think Times Square costs more. I
- 50:56Speaker 2: would think so, too. Well, that sphere can't be cheap.
- 50:58Speaker 5: No.
- 50:58Speaker 2: But that's what the PGA Tour had to do with Liv.
- 51:01Speaker 2: It's like, we want you guys to say, Rory, you'll
- 51:03Speaker 2: play for more money than you've ever played for. They're
- 51:06Speaker 2: going to guarantee it for you, but you can play
- 51:07Speaker 2: the PGA Tour and still make that kind of money. Scotty,
- 51:10Speaker 2: you too. So, I mean, that's why they're making so
- 51:12Speaker 2: much money now.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Who did the best job coaching this weekend? Who did
- 51:16Speaker 1: the worst job coaching? We will talk about that coming
- 51:19Speaker 1: up in the next segment, hour number two of the
- 51:22Speaker 1: next round, presented by Hard Rock Bets right here on
- 51:24Speaker 1: Sporting State.
