- 0:04Speaker 1: Show on demand on the iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: App and now Handle on the news. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 0:17Speaker 2: here's Bill handle King.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Good morning everybody. Oh yeah, we started again Monday morning,
- 0:26Speaker 1: January the fifth new year is here, and you know
- 0:32Speaker 1: Donald Trump said, you know we're not going to start
- 0:35Speaker 1: a boring new year, are we? Oh man, what a
- 0:37Speaker 1: weekend it has been. And we'll talk more about that
- 0:40Speaker 1: a whole lot more about that in the meantime. Today
- 0:44Speaker 1: January fifth, three hundred and sixty or fifty one days
- 0:49Speaker 1: till Christmas, so shopping days. We're right here, and let
- 0:55Speaker 1: me see who's there. I know Neil is not there
- 0:57Speaker 1: today as I can't see him. He's gone on all
- 1:00Speaker 1: this week. But at anytime, everybody else is Amy, good morning.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Hi. I didn't know Neil wasn't going to be here.
- 1:07Speaker 3: That you for me right now?
- 1:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it does. I didn't know that either. And by
- 1:11Speaker 1: the way, Anne who the announcement because I actually slept,
- 1:19Speaker 1: which I couldn't believe this past week that I did
- 1:22Speaker 1: absolutely nothing, just stayed at home and just vegged out.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And so when the show starts and I'm not there.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Do they say it's handled on the news with and
- 1:32Speaker 1: then my name is not mentioned? Or how is that introduced?
- 1:37Speaker 1: I wasn't here.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I don't know Cono.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Okay, does anybody know Cono.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Is not Bill Handle?
- 1:43Speaker 1: And then it goes into oh does it say that?
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:45Speaker 1: Oh okay, good because I don't think any of us
- 1:47Speaker 1: knew that, because I don't think anybody listens when they're
- 1:50Speaker 1: not around, which goes to show you what big fans
- 1:54Speaker 1: we are of our own show.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Good Morning.
- 1:58Speaker 1: That's true. Actually that one day I actually swept till
- 2:02Speaker 1: seven thirty, which I have not done in probably twenty
- 2:04Speaker 1: five years, and it was I'm.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Usually up at three thirty, even on vacation.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Even on vacation. Yeah, I'm just up and running around
- 2:13Speaker 1: and watching CNN or reading a book. I just finished
- 2:17Speaker 1: Kamala Harris's new book. Wow, what a piece of crap
- 2:20Speaker 1: that is?
- 2:21Speaker 3: Can I borrow?
- 2:23Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 2:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to because I don't want to buy it.
- 2:25Speaker 3: You don't want to buy it, but I wouldn't want
- 2:27Speaker 3: to read it.
- 2:27Speaker 1: You don't want to buy it. It's very self serving,
- 2:30Speaker 1: although it's kind of fun because it gives a lot
- 2:32Speaker 1: of inside stuff inside baseball. That's what makes it kind
- 2:34Speaker 1: of interesting. But no, it's aren't I great? Or I bitch?
- 2:37Speaker 1: And I shouldn't I have one? Yes? And so I said,
- 2:41Speaker 1: hello Ann Cono.
- 2:42Speaker 3: You didn't say me.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Actually, okay, Hello Anne. Oh we've been talking all morning.
- 2:47Speaker 4: So we're all by the way vacation. They send us
- 2:52Speaker 4: like every other day, who's on vacation and what's the
- 2:55Speaker 4: schedule going to be like? And who's up and who's not.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So there's no excuse for not knowing here this week.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Yeah, and except that we were on vacation, so we
- 3:03Speaker 3: weren't reading emails.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Any emails.
- 3:05Speaker 3: No, okay, it was vacation.
- 3:10Speaker 4: No, I understand, said, don't be shocked, but you don't
- 3:12Speaker 4: know what's going on?
- 3:13Speaker 1: There you go, well, said Michelle usually punches those out,
- 3:16Speaker 1: and she's pretty good about that. But no one reads.
- 3:21Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't even think I have a
- 3:24Speaker 1: an email address or an address that KFI. I just
- 3:28Speaker 1: you know, don't pay attention to it. And then no, Will,
- 3:30Speaker 1: good morning, Will, Will Coleschreiber, who I can't hear, who
- 3:35Speaker 1: clearly doesn't have his microphone on? Who is there? Now
- 3:40Speaker 1: I can I thought you were doing an impression of
- 3:42Speaker 1: Helen Keller. I'm going to go that's not bad. You know,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it could it could have been worse, like me. No,
- 3:47Speaker 1: in any case, Oh, we've got so much talk about. Obviously,
- 3:50Speaker 1: the big, big, big story is what happened on Friday
- 3:55Speaker 1: night Saturday morning when American forces went in to Venezuela
- 4:02Speaker 1: and picked up a Nicholas Maduro. And oh my god,
- 4:06Speaker 1: what the response has been and the reaction and where
- 4:10Speaker 1: President Trump is going. I tell you, there will never
- 4:13Speaker 1: be another president like President Trump ever again, never has been,
- 4:17Speaker 1: never will be. We're watching history in the making in
- 4:21Speaker 1: terms of a presidency. And with that, let's go ahead
- 4:24Speaker 1: and start a handle on the news on this Monday morning,
- 4:27Speaker 1: January fifth, Amy O'Neil and me Lea Storry. This morning,
- 4:37Speaker 1: just a couple hours ago, maybe an hour and a
- 4:39Speaker 1: half ago, or maybe an hour ago, the former president
- 4:43Speaker 1: of Venezuela, Nicholas Maduro, was taken from a facility in
- 4:50Speaker 1: New York a detention center, and then brought over to
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think the Metropolitan Detention Center where he is going
- 4:58Speaker 1: to be a rained on all kinds of federal charges.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Was going to talk about a little bit later on.
- 5:03Speaker 1: He was kidnapped. It's that simple. American forces went in
- 5:09Speaker 1: in a massive military move and I attack. Yeah, you
- 5:16Speaker 1: can call it that. But special forces went in, backed
- 5:20Speaker 1: up by one hundred and fifty aircraft from twenty bases,
- 5:24Speaker 1: came in with a massive show of force and grabbed
- 5:27Speaker 1: him straight out, grabbed him. It was just an insanely precise,
- 5:33Speaker 1: complicated military maneuver. And everybody, those pro and con are saying, wow,
- 5:37Speaker 1: look what the military did. Of course, the geopolitical, the financial,
- 5:43Speaker 1: the security aspects of this are way way up in
- 5:48Speaker 1: the air. We'll be talking more about that at seven o'clock.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Let's work together, That's what the interim president of Venezuela
- 5:58Speaker 3: is now saying.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Delight, I thought you were talking to me, and I'm going,
- 6:02Speaker 1: why would we want to work together? Literally, I thought
- 6:07Speaker 1: that was where you were going. Okay, moving on, go ahead, Okay.
- 6:10Speaker 3: So over the weekend, President Trump basically said that if
- 6:17Speaker 3: Venezuela's vice president, Delcia Rodriguez is the interim president doesn't
- 6:21Speaker 3: do what's right, she is going to, in his words,
- 6:23Speaker 3: pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro. Well.
- 6:28Speaker 3: Delci Rodriguez had come out against the arrest and not deportation,
- 6:37Speaker 3: the moving of Nicholas Muduro.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Yeah, the kidnapping is you know, the extra the extrication,
- 6:44Speaker 1: the extraction of Maduro.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Yep, she said she was against it. Shouldn't he should
- 6:48Speaker 3: be released, and now she's saying, you know, let's work together.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yes.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Her response was I think maybe in relation to.
- 6:55Speaker 1: The you know, it's a little complicated because Marco Rubio,
- 6:57Speaker 1: the president said that Marco Rubio had been in touch
- 7:00Speaker 1: with her and after the fact, and that she was
- 7:03Speaker 1: willing to work. This is what the president said, that
- 7:06Speaker 1: she was willing to work with the United States, and
- 7:09Speaker 1: our president said, okay, that's great. And then you saw
- 7:11Speaker 1: on Venezuelan television where she says, absolutely not. Maduro is
- 7:18Speaker 1: still the president. We demand the immediate return of Maduro.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And so we're getting two different stories about this. And
- 7:27Speaker 1: as you said, Trump has warned her saying, if you
- 7:29Speaker 1: don't do exactly what we tell you to do, it's
- 7:32Speaker 1: going to be far worse for you than it was
- 7:36Speaker 1: for Maduro. Interesting point here, interesting factoid, and we're probably
- 7:40Speaker 1: going to talk about that, is that up to the
- 7:45Speaker 1: extraction is the word that's being used in Maduro by
- 7:48Speaker 1: US forces. There were contracts. There were contacts maye between
- 7:52Speaker 1: the US government and Johnald Trump. President Trump said he
- 7:55Speaker 1: talked to Maduro twice on the telephone and said, surrender,
- 8:00Speaker 1: get out of here. Maduro was given the option of
- 8:04Speaker 1: what is described as a gilded exit. He would be
- 8:09Speaker 1: allowed to leave the country, go to another country that
- 8:12Speaker 1: would give him asylum, which there are several that would,
- 8:15Speaker 1: and could take his money with him. And he has
- 8:18Speaker 1: he has to have billions of dollars, if not well,
- 8:21Speaker 1: at least hundreds of millions, and all that disappear. Boy
- 8:25Speaker 1: did he gets wrong? How'd that work out for him?
- 8:28Speaker 1: And the President said he maybe he should have taken
- 8:30Speaker 1: that to offer, and it looks like he should have.
- 8:35Speaker 1: So del Rodriguez is she the president? Well, she was
- 8:38Speaker 1: sworn in the Supreme Court of Venezuela says she's the president. However,
- 8:44Speaker 1: we assume that she is not the president because she
- 8:47Speaker 1: became vice president under an illegal election of Maduro. It was.
- 8:54Speaker 1: The whole thing is a cluster truck, and we're going
- 8:57Speaker 1: to be talking about that later on too. A lot
- 8:59Speaker 1: of moving pieces on this one. Another moving piece.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Is it Greenland or red White and Blueland? The Prime
- 9:06Speaker 3: Minister of Denmark has called on President Trump to stop
- 9:10Speaker 3: the threats about taking over Greenland. President Trump reiterated, we
- 9:15Speaker 3: do need Greenland, absolutely, we need it for defense. He
- 9:19Speaker 3: said that in an interview with the Atlantic magazine. Trump
- 9:23Speaker 3: has repeatedly claimed that making Greenland part of the US
- 9:26Speaker 3: would serve you as national security interests given its strategic
- 9:30Speaker 3: location in the Arctic.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Now here's a question, is he going to buy Greenland
- 9:36Speaker 1: from Denmark? And how much is that worth? Assuming Denmark
- 9:40Speaker 1: wants to sell Greenland, which, of course it says, you
- 9:42Speaker 1: guys are crazy. You know, that's our territory. I mean,
- 9:45Speaker 1: this is part of our government. Does he and he's
- 9:49Speaker 1: been asked, do you with then invade Greenland and grab it?
- 9:53Speaker 1: And he said no, no, we just have to get Greenland.
- 9:57Speaker 1: He has not gone beyond that goes right, and he
- 10:00Speaker 1: doubled down on all of us and coming back on
- 10:04Speaker 1: Air Force one, he was asked, and this is after
- 10:07Speaker 1: the majorial thing, asked you know what about okay, Greenland?
- 10:12Speaker 1: He said, we need it, We're gonna grab it, or
- 10:14Speaker 1: we're gonna we want and need Greenland. And then Canada
- 10:19Speaker 1: the fifty first state. He hasn't left that one alone. Either. Now,
- 10:24Speaker 1: how insane is that? Except who would have thought that
- 10:29Speaker 1: the United States would in fact enter a sovereign country
- 10:34Speaker 1: and kidnap its leader and bring him the trial. By
- 10:42Speaker 1: the way, who in Greenland? Who in Canada? Can they
- 10:45Speaker 1: bring the trial? And I don't know the answer to that.
- 10:49Speaker 3: Why would they bring anybody to trial?
- 10:51Speaker 1: And of course they wouldn't. But what do you do
- 10:53Speaker 1: with Canada? What do you do? I mean, could it
- 10:55Speaker 1: be the thirty first state? Well it could the population.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Oh probably not the thirty first state built.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Well fifty first. I'm sorry it has yet well said.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It has fewer people in California. In California is a state,
- 11:11Speaker 1: so it would be a little it would be a
- 11:13Speaker 1: big state. It's you don't even know where to go
- 11:17Speaker 1: with this. I don't know what to say about this,
- 11:20Speaker 1: but I do have plenty to say about what happened
- 11:23Speaker 1: in Venezuela over this past weekend. Liar Liar.
- 11:28Speaker 3: President Trump says that US officials have determined Ukraine did
- 11:33Speaker 3: not target a residence that belongs to Russian President Vladimir
- 11:37Speaker 3: Putin in a drone attack. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov
- 11:42Speaker 3: said Ukraine launched a wave of drones at Putin's state
- 11:45Speaker 3: residence that it says defense systems in Russia were able
- 11:50Speaker 3: to defeat.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Okay, and usually this time around, I didn't hear the
- 11:57Speaker 1: president say I believe Putin on no matter what he says,
- 12:01Speaker 1: and I disbelieve our own intelligence sources. At first he
- 12:04Speaker 1: said yeah, and maybe Putin's right, but then he changed
- 12:09Speaker 1: his mind. I think it was predicated on clearly intelligence
- 12:13Speaker 1: that the United States Intelligence services gave him. And now
- 12:18Speaker 1: Putin's lying, You're right, liar, liar, pants on fire.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Well, gas prices are still following you. I mean, they're
- 12:27Speaker 3: stupid high in California, but they continue to go down.
- 12:32Speaker 3: As President Trump calls on US oil companies to invest
- 12:36Speaker 3: in Venezuela. After the overthrow of President Nicholas Maduro, US
- 12:41Speaker 3: crewde oil fell thirty one cents. It's at fifty seven
- 12:46Speaker 3: point eighty a barrel right now.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah. Now keep in mind that you would think a
- 12:53Speaker 1: major oil producing nation would stop producing oil, and at
- 12:57Speaker 1: this point you're not seeing any oil coming out of Ventezuela,
- 13:02Speaker 1: not very much oil. I think there's still some going
- 13:04Speaker 1: to China that the president is allowing to happen. But
- 13:07Speaker 1: the point is is that Venezuela produces so little oil
- 13:12Speaker 1: that it doesn't alter the market very much. Venezuela has
- 13:16Speaker 1: the world's largest oil reserves by a long shot, yet
- 13:22Speaker 1: it is producing twenty percent of the oil it did
- 13:25Speaker 1: before Chavez, a predecessor to Maduro, came into office because
- 13:29Speaker 1: the economy of Venezuela has been destroyed. I mean, these
- 13:31Speaker 1: two guys single handedly destroyed the country, and so it
- 13:35Speaker 1: turns out to be not one big deal because so
- 13:39Speaker 1: little oil is produced by Venezuela. Here's a factoid, by
- 13:42Speaker 1: the way, and that is are different kinds of oil,
- 13:46Speaker 1: different grades of oil. The United States produces a sweet oil,
- 13:51Speaker 1: is what it's called. An oil that is not sludgy,
- 13:55Speaker 1: is not thick. They're different grades, and you need different
- 13:58Speaker 1: kinds of refinery abilities. Well, the United States oil is
- 14:03Speaker 1: mainly is mainly for gasoline, and that's about it. This
- 14:08Speaker 1: sludgy oil that's produced by Venezuela is used in virtually
- 14:13Speaker 1: all other kinds of manufacturing. And so it's pretty important
- 14:18Speaker 1: oil to say the least, but you're saying much of it.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And then that leads right into discussions that we're going
- 14:23Speaker 1: to have over the next weeks, months, even years about
- 14:29Speaker 1: bringing Venezuelan oil back into the world market. With now
- 14:32Speaker 1: the United States making that call and making the decisions,
- 14:36Speaker 1: it looks like.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Less aid for Gaza. So Israel has revoked the licenses
- 14:45Speaker 3: of more than three dozen humanitarian organizations. The thirty seven
- 14:49Speaker 3: groups represent some of the most prominent of more than
- 14:52Speaker 3: one hundred independent NGOs working in Gaza. Those banned include
- 14:58Speaker 3: Doctors Without Borders, the Norwegian Refugee Council OXFAM, and Medical
- 15:03Speaker 3: Aid for Palestinians. Israel's no longer going to allow those
- 15:07Speaker 3: groups to bring supplies into the Strip. Ortison, International Staffers
- 15:11Speaker 3: in Israel says all of those suspended groups are going
- 15:14Speaker 3: to have to halt all operations by March first.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You know, I've been thinking about this all weekend in
- 15:20Speaker 1: terms of what this announcement was about, because now I
- 15:24Speaker 1: think we have over seventy thousand people, or they have
- 15:26Speaker 1: over seventy thousand people that have died in Gaza as
- 15:29Speaker 1: a result of the Israeli attack on Gaza subsequent to
- 15:35Speaker 1: October seventh, and I had said that there's no question
- 15:39Speaker 1: at war crimes certainly under international law, are being committed
- 15:43Speaker 1: by Israel, but here is my question also coming back
- 15:46Speaker 1: and Israel is basically saying we cannot let Hamas stay
- 15:52Speaker 1: as a military force, and Hamas is saying We're going
- 15:56Speaker 1: to stay as a military force no matter what, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: all in it'll well have the population of Gaza to
- 16:04Speaker 1: be killed, in every single building to be destroyed, and
- 16:07Speaker 1: they're not giving up their military position, which is the
- 16:11Speaker 1: destruction of Israel. So what does this reel do? I mean,
- 16:17Speaker 1: do they let people starve? Well, no, they don't. They
- 16:21Speaker 1: What they do is they bring people to the point
- 16:24Speaker 1: where aid is going to happen, Humanitarian aid, rebuild, all
- 16:28Speaker 1: of that helps Hamas. So now you have a government
- 16:33Speaker 1: next to you that is absolutely set on destroying you,
- 16:41Speaker 1: say you have the See the problem there is that
- 16:45Speaker 1: Hamas is embedded in the civilian population, and Israel's going
- 16:51Speaker 1: to say, what do we do? We got to get
- 16:53Speaker 1: rid of Hamas. Hamas is part of the population. It's
- 16:56Speaker 1: there's no easy answer here. I have come to the
- 16:59Speaker 1: conclusion Hamas will never disarm. They've said that can you overthrow?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Can the people of guys overthrow Camas? They're basically starving
- 17:09Speaker 1: to death. It's a tough one, but the bottom line
- 17:13Speaker 1: is doctors without borders can't come in Oxfam, which is
- 17:18Speaker 1: a famous British charity. It's there's no easy answer there.
- 17:24Speaker 1: All right, let's do one more and we'll take a break.
- 17:27Speaker 3: A high toll on teens. There was New Year's fire
- 17:32Speaker 3: in Switzerland. It happened at the Constellation Bar in southern Switzerland.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Forty people were killed in the fire. Twenty four have
- 17:41Speaker 3: now been identified. All of those whose ages the police provided,
- 17:48Speaker 3: the majority were teenagers and everybody was under forty. So
- 17:53Speaker 3: the fire apparently started during a New Year's Eve celebration
- 17:56Speaker 3: when sparklers placed on top of champagne bottle ignited the
- 18:01Speaker 3: ceiling in the crowded bar's basement and caused what's called
- 18:04Speaker 3: a flashover.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Yeah, you've seen those flashovers when literally something ignites and
- 18:11Speaker 1: explodes into flame where you just can't get away with.
- 18:15Speaker 1: It's not a fire burning in your direction and you
- 18:18Speaker 1: get the hell out of dodge. It is an explosion
- 18:22Speaker 1: of fire that you can't get away from. And this
- 18:25Speaker 1: is why so many people died. And then you're going
- 18:27Speaker 1: to see, oh, the investigations are going to continue. Like
- 18:30Speaker 1: crazy sparklers held too close to the ceiling, How do
- 18:34Speaker 1: you hold sparklers too close to the ceiling without crawling
- 18:39Speaker 1: on top people. I know, Cono, is you know holding
- 18:42Speaker 1: it out now, Cono. No, there are people that are
- 18:46Speaker 1: taller than three three foot eight, which you are. It's
- 18:49Speaker 1: still you have to have very low low ceilings.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Secret Service is hiring. The Secret Services launched a very
- 18:59Speaker 3: ambitious is hiring effort seeking to bring in thousands of
- 19:04Speaker 3: agents and officers to ease the strain on an overstretched
- 19:08Speaker 3: workforce and get ready for some big events in twenty
- 19:12Speaker 3: twenty eight, including the next presidential election and the twenty
- 19:16Speaker 3: twenty eight Summer Olympic Games right here in LA. They
- 19:20Speaker 3: want four thousand new employees by twenty twenty eight.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and they're also hiring what how many new border
- 19:27Speaker 1: patrol agents? Ten thousand? They wanted to hire those two
- 19:31Speaker 1: So let me ask you a question. You know that
- 19:34Speaker 1: they lowered their they lowered their level of expertise that
- 19:41Speaker 1: they need. You know, the qualifications have been somewhat lowered.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And from what I understand, they're even accepting people who
- 19:48Speaker 1: used to be in law enforcement. For example, forty pounds overweight,
- 19:54Speaker 1: former crossing guards at schools. I mean, they are really
- 19:58Speaker 1: stretching for sure, we'll see the qualifications. Well, not going
- 20:04Speaker 1: to be as high, but you know it takes, you know,
- 20:06Speaker 1: not long it takes to train a secret service person.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I mean it's months and months. So well they're gonna
- 20:12Speaker 1: have time. Is this twenty twenty eight? And will they
- 20:16Speaker 1: be arresting everybody in town?
- 20:21Speaker 3: Trump says drug prices are going to go down, but
- 20:24Speaker 3: apparently the drug makers aren't exactly in line with that.
- 20:28Speaker 3: Drug makers are planning to raise prices in the US
- 20:31Speaker 3: on at least three hundred and fifty branded medications, including
- 20:36Speaker 3: vaccines against covid, RSV and shingles, also cancer treatment called ibrants.
- 20:43Speaker 3: The median price increase is about four percent, which was
- 20:47Speaker 3: in line with last years. There are a few that
- 20:51Speaker 3: are going to cut prices nine drugs, including more than
- 20:54Speaker 3: forty percent cut for a diabetes drug called Jaradians, and
- 20:59Speaker 3: although some related treatments.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I take Jardians, you do, yeah, I do. I absolutely
- 21:06Speaker 1: take Jardians. Yeah, not that I have diabetes, but it's
- 21:11Speaker 1: used for whatever the hell they use it for. The
- 21:13Speaker 1: only thing I know what I'm used for is le
- 21:15Speaker 1: Michtyl to keep me calm without going completely crazy. That's
- 21:18Speaker 1: the only drug I know.
- 21:20Speaker 3: Have you loved your dose since Trump won?
- 21:23Speaker 1: No, I haven't up my mean of limit kill. Yeah, no,
- 21:26Speaker 1: I actually haven't. You would think I would have, But
- 21:29Speaker 1: not at all. Okay, yeah, not at all. I'm not
- 21:32Speaker 1: because I look at the Trump you know, election, and
- 21:35Speaker 1: what's happening and what Trump is doing. It's sort of
- 21:38Speaker 1: a you know, two sides of a coin. On the
- 21:40Speaker 1: one hand, on the good side is hey, tell me
- 21:43Speaker 1: this isn't fodder for talk radio. I mean now, you know,
- 21:46Speaker 1: I love talking about it. And on the other hand,
- 21:48Speaker 1: the politics that would driving me completely crazy. You know,
- 21:51Speaker 1: the fact that, for example, vaccines will become criminal, that
- 21:56Speaker 1: any manufacturer or any any parent giving their kid a
- 22:00Speaker 1: vaccine will be in jail over twenty years. You're going
- 22:03Speaker 1: to see that going on. But no, the answer is no,
- 22:07Speaker 1: they have not increased my dosage.
- 22:12Speaker 3: Mickey's facing eviction. Not that Mickey, it's actor Mickey Rourke.
- 22:18Speaker 3: He has had a go fundme page launched on his
- 22:22Speaker 3: behalf because he owes over fifty nine thousand dollars in
- 22:27Speaker 3: back rent. This is the support Mickey to prevent eviction. GoFundMe.
- 22:33Speaker 3: He apparently was served an eviction noticed on December eighteenth.
- 22:37Speaker 3: That's according to La Times. He signed a lease in
- 22:41Speaker 3: March of twenty twenty five to pay fifty two hundred
- 22:44Speaker 3: dollars a month, but the rent was raised to seven
- 22:48Speaker 3: thousand dollars per month for the three bedroom, two bedroom
- 22:51Speaker 3: home built in nineteen twenty six.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and fifty two hundred dollars a month is not
- 22:58Speaker 1: an insane rent. You know, we're talking about a moderate
- 23:01Speaker 1: home here in southern California and going up to seven thousand,
- 23:07Speaker 1: that's pretty high.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Well, and I just checked and it says that it's
- 23:12Speaker 3: raised tens of thousands of dollars so far, so they're
- 23:15Speaker 3: close to getting there, But that doesn't solve the long
- 23:18Speaker 3: term problem of if he's not been paying his rent
- 23:20Speaker 3: for Yeah, and.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Where did he get to that point? I mean he
- 23:24Speaker 1: was I won't say an A list actor, but certainly
- 23:27Speaker 1: a B list actor. And you know, they made very
- 23:31Speaker 1: good money, you know, even if you're talking about a
- 23:34Speaker 1: commercial film made by a major film studio. I mean,
- 23:37Speaker 1: they paid good money for the leads, for the stars.
- 23:41Speaker 1: How did you get to that point? I don't even know,
- 23:44Speaker 1: don't even know. You have to have lived very high
- 23:49Speaker 1: or spent all your money on drugs, fun, rock and roll,
- 23:55Speaker 1: everything else.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Stuck in paradise. So the FAA closed down the airspace
- 24:02Speaker 3: over Venezuela following the capture of Nicholas Maduro over the weekend,
- 24:09Speaker 3: and they have reopened that airspace, but then now they're
- 24:13Speaker 3: going to have to play catch up, and so a
- 24:14Speaker 3: lot of people are stranded, a lot of tourists, probably
- 24:18Speaker 3: on Christmas vacation or the New Year vacation. For example,
- 24:23Speaker 3: a reporter for ABC's station in Philadelphia said she and
- 24:27Speaker 3: her family were supposed to fly home from San Juan,
- 24:29Speaker 3: Puerto Rico to Philadelphia last night, but now she says
- 24:33Speaker 3: she's been told by the airlines she can't get a
- 24:35Speaker 3: flight out until Friday.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah, look at the perfect storm here. You've got the
- 24:40Speaker 1: flights going in and out of Venezuela. Of course those
- 24:42Speaker 1: are done at least for the short term. You have
- 24:46Speaker 1: the airspace over Venezuela being cut off that US airlines
- 24:51Speaker 1: cannot overfly Venezuela. You have the holidays in which are
- 24:57Speaker 1: the busiest travel times of the year, and you have
- 25:00Speaker 1: those crazy ass storms that are going on on the
- 25:03Speaker 1: East Coast where flights are canceled and or delayed in
- 25:07Speaker 1: Moss in mass That's a four way perfect storm. That's
- 25:11Speaker 1: not even a three way. This is when it makes sense.
- 25:15Speaker 1: You just sit back and veg for the holidays. You
- 25:19Speaker 1: know it didn't bother me because I didn't get off
- 25:22Speaker 1: the couch. Yeah, Amy, did you did you go any place?
- 25:26Speaker 3: Well? I was supposed to fly up to Oregon for
- 25:29Speaker 3: the holiday, but my cat was sick, so I had
- 25:31Speaker 3: the cat that canceled Christmas, and I stayed home and
- 25:33Speaker 3: did much of what the same as you, and a
- 25:36Speaker 3: lot of time on the couch over the holidays.
- 25:38Speaker 1: A lot of people, virtually everybody I knew, didn't go
- 25:41Speaker 1: any place over the holidays. And did you go any place? No, cono.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I know you can't afford it, but you didn't go
- 25:50Speaker 1: any place? Will Did you go any place? For my side, gig,
- 25:53Speaker 1: I did some work out of town, but yeah, no, yeah,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I didn't go. I think a lot of it has
- 25:59Speaker 1: to do with even as whale and error space being
- 26:01Speaker 1: shut down that stopped me from going at any.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Place, see something, say something at school. A federal court
- 26:11Speaker 3: has ruled that free speech and religious rights of California
- 26:15Speaker 3: teachers will be upheld if they want to tell parents
- 26:20Speaker 3: about how their child is expressing gender identity at school,
- 26:24Speaker 3: that's a victory for conservatives and parents rights advocates. The
- 26:29Speaker 3: federal or the judge concluded that federal law allows school
- 26:33Speaker 3: employees to notify parents of gender incongruents.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And this has to do with the law that says
- 26:40Speaker 1: that the school either does not or can't call parents
- 26:46Speaker 1: and say, your kid is coming off as or exhibiting
- 26:51Speaker 1: herself for himself identifying as the other sex. And I've
- 26:55Speaker 1: always wondered about how many kids who do identify as
- 26:59Speaker 1: the others their parents don't know about that. They only
- 27:04Speaker 1: do that at school. I've often wondered about that, what
- 27:09Speaker 1: the number of kids that that effects. I think it's
- 27:12Speaker 1: far more policy and far more political statement than anything else.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But anyway, look now it's the federal judge says, you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: teachers have a right to call parents and say, hey,
- 27:25Speaker 1: you know Fred is coming off and identifies as Frederica.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It's run of news.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Is there something fishy about this? A five hundred and
- 27:38Speaker 3: thirty five pound bluefin tuna has sold for three point
- 27:43Speaker 3: two million dollars at the first auction of twenty twenty
- 27:47Speaker 3: six at Tokyo's Toyosu Fish Market. The pricey fish was
- 27:53Speaker 3: caught off the coast of Oma in northern Japan. Apparently
- 27:56Speaker 3: a lot of tuna, hundreds of them are sold every
- 27:59Speaker 3: day at the auction. The prices are significantly higher than
- 28:02Speaker 3: usual for the Oma tuna.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Now, usually I want to make a point here, not
- 28:09Speaker 1: about the story, but usually how good a job you
- 28:12Speaker 1: do at introducing stories. You know, you do little quips
- 28:17Speaker 1: or little different introductions, and how you do play for words.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And you're usually very, very good about this, Amy, But
- 28:25Speaker 1: then there was this story. Is there something fishy about this?
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm thinking, come on, really, come on, come on, Amy.
- 28:37Speaker 3: I've been off for a week and a half.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Man, is there something fishy about that? Okay, I'm not
- 28:45Speaker 1: gonna let Okay, it's enough attacking you. Let's go back
- 28:49Speaker 1: to what we do.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Nothing clever about this. Another sad ending for a famous
- 28:53Speaker 3: person's child. Tommy Lee Jones daughter Victoria has been found dead.
- 29:03Speaker 3: It happened last Thursday in San Francisco. People at the
- 29:09Speaker 3: scene apparently told first responders that she'd been using cocaine.
- 29:13Speaker 3: They first got to the Fairmont San Francisco on Thursday, morning,
- 29:18Speaker 3: saw blue tinge on her lips and fingernails and suspected
- 29:21Speaker 3: that she had odd on drugs. She was just thirty four.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tough for any family. And of course there's
- 29:30Speaker 1: one hundred thousand of these a year. Now it's probably
- 29:32Speaker 1: dropped down to seventy thousand of these a year, just
- 29:34Speaker 1: when it happens to the children, or it happens to
- 29:38Speaker 1: people that are very well known or in the public
- 29:40Speaker 1: in the public eye, and of course this is exactly
- 29:44Speaker 1: the case with Tommy Lee Jones.
- 29:48Speaker 3: Well, it was a good run. The oldest operating restaurant
- 29:51Speaker 3: in La County's closing its doors for good. The original
- 29:55Speaker 3: Saugust Cafe at its last day of business yesterday, so
- 29:59Speaker 3: if you didn't get there, you missed it. It was
- 30:01Speaker 3: opened for one hundred and thirty nine years. Opened in
- 30:05Speaker 3: eighteen eighty six, the original Saugus Cafe fed President's, Hollywood
- 30:09Speaker 3: stars and everyone in between for almost a century and
- 30:12Speaker 3: a half.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Cay mant, what was Saugus like in eighteen eighty six?
- 30:18Speaker 1: What three cows and two people have you ever been?
- 30:24Speaker 3: I have never been to Saugust.
- 30:25Speaker 1: I Oh, okay, I don't think you're missing much and
- 30:29Speaker 1: for those people that live in Saugus, I let me
- 30:32Speaker 1: put it on the table. She wasn't missing much. Okay,
- 30:38Speaker 1: let's finish up. This's our last story. We're gonna do
- 30:40Speaker 1: in a minute. Yes, yes, a lot. We met it
- 30:42Speaker 1: through the whole stack today, Anne.
- 30:45Speaker 3: What is the best selling electric car? And he guesses,
- 30:50Speaker 3: and he guesses not Tesla. Apparently, Tesla delivered one point
- 30:56Speaker 3: six four million vehicles in twenty twenty five, which was
- 30:59Speaker 3: down nine from a year before. China's BYD sold two
- 31:06Speaker 3: point two six million vehicles last week.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Year.
- 31:09Speaker 3: It is now the biggest electric vehicle maker in the world.
- 31:14Speaker 1: And no surprise, because China has some extraordinary technology on
- 31:18Speaker 1: its own, is quickly moving into the world's superpower across
- 31:23Speaker 1: the board, militarily, economically and technologically. In this case, you
- 31:29Speaker 1: have the electric vehicles. And when China puts its mind
- 31:34Speaker 1: to something, man they make it happen. So BYD you
- 31:37Speaker 1: know what the number one car model they have, by
- 31:40Speaker 1: the way, to anybody, you know, it's the Mugu y car.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Don't think that's accurate.
- 31:48Speaker 1: But it sounds good, doesn't it. No, it doesn't. It
- 31:51Speaker 1: sounds stupid. And I accused Amy as sounding stupid boy.
- 31:55Speaker 1: There we go. All right, this is KFI AM sixty.
- 31:59Speaker 1: You've been listening to the Bill Handle Show. Catch my
- 32:01Speaker 1: Show Monday through Friday, six am to nine am, and
