• 0:01
Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
• 0:04
Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia, Judice, Daisy.
• 0:07
Speaker 2: Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
• 0:11
Speaker 3: All right, guys, so here we are here, we're back
• 0:14
Speaker 3: talking to There are four of us here talking about sororities,
• 0:19
Speaker 3: different times, different generations, young old.
• 0:23
Speaker 4: I was in the middle because like, I think my
• 0:25
Speaker 4: mom is the grandma. Now we're middle, and then Lily
• 0:30
  Speaker 4: is young.
• 0:30
Speaker 3: You keep telling yoursel phone.
• 0:32
  Speaker 2: I think you're wrong.
• 0:33
Speaker 4: I think your mom is the whatever the gigi.
• 0:35
Speaker 2: Okay, whatever your thing is, Lily the gigi. Right, we're
• 0:39
  Speaker 2: the grandma's.
• 0:40
Speaker 4: So Jen, give us the next lingo. But I wanted
• 0:42
Speaker 4: to talk about something that Nikki brought up in our
• 0:45
Speaker 4: last episode, which was back in the day, in the nineties.
• 0:49
Speaker 4: And we'll see what Lily thinks of this. You had
• 0:52
Speaker 4: a landline in your room, some people did. How we
• 0:56
Speaker 4: communicated was through these payphones and so at Kappa we
• 1:01
Speaker 4: had these two phones. Now in our era, it would
• 1:04
Speaker 4: just ring and you hope someone would answer it. In
• 1:06
Speaker 4: my mom's era, fledges were assigned time.
• 1:10
Speaker 2: That's hazing, literally, that's hazing, right.
• 1:13
Speaker 4: No, so to answer so I can remember the phone ringing.
• 1:19
Speaker 4: You know this payphone, an old timey payphone. You'd answer
• 1:23
Speaker 4: it and they would say, this is you know, Bob,
• 1:26
Speaker 4: Can I talk to Nicki? And then you'd get on
• 1:27
Speaker 4: the intercom and you would say NICKI oh four, Niki
• 1:31
  Speaker 4: O two.
• 1:32
Speaker 3: And then those phones, those were like house phones.
• 1:35
Speaker 4: You had to use a quarter or like your dad's
• 1:37
Speaker 4: calling card if you wanted to call out. Now, you
• 1:40
Speaker 4: might have a phone in your room, but there would
• 1:43
Speaker 4: be no way to really know the number. Although I
• 1:45
Speaker 4: have this vague memory of a Greek phone book, Nicki,
• 1:48
Speaker 4: do you have any memory of some sort of a
• 1:50
Speaker 4: phone book that had everyone's landlord.
• 1:53
Speaker 2: Thomas side or what do we call yellow pages?
• 1:57
  Speaker 5: Baby?
• 1:58
Speaker 3: No, I mean I just remember a bathe phone with
• 1:59
Speaker 3: life like there are all different lines and lights would
• 2:01
  Speaker 3: be blinking.
• 2:02
Speaker 6: No, that's from the movie Love Story back in the
• 2:04
Speaker 6: day that you're in the fifties on that.
• 2:06
Speaker 4: That's fancy, Jen. We had a payphone, like an actual
• 2:09
Speaker 4: hanging on the wall payphone.
• 2:11
Speaker 2: Two with a booth that you would go into.
• 2:13
Speaker 4: Correct and then there was a booth. Yeah, so if
• 2:15
Speaker 4: you and if you were upstairs and you would say NICKI,
• 2:19
Speaker 4: oh four, you'd have to wait for Nikki to pick
• 2:22
Speaker 4: it up downstairs. Then you would hang up and then
• 2:23
Speaker 4: she could like shut the payphone door downstairs. I'm happy
• 2:27
Speaker 4: to we use card and there were actually yeah, or
• 2:29
Speaker 4: did we use credit cards or collect calls?
• 2:31
Speaker 2: Like we're in jail? All of it?
• 2:33
Speaker 4: We had all that stuff, Minnie Dorms, I remember that.
• 2:36
Speaker 1: What if someone was hogging it? Like Nicki's on the
• 2:39
Speaker 1: phone with her long distance boyfriend one freshman year and
• 2:43
  Speaker 1: she's hogging it.
• 2:45
Speaker 5: What do you guys do?
• 2:46
Speaker 4: We also had phones in our room, so you'd have
• 2:48
Speaker 4: a landline with an answering machine with a cassette tape
• 2:51
Speaker 4: in it. So you would have a landline and like
• 2:54
Speaker 4: you and your roommate would share the landline and you
• 2:56
Speaker 4: would come in and you'd hit oh we got three
• 2:59
Speaker 4: message and hit play oh my god, and your roommate,
• 3:02
Speaker 4: I had this overwhelming memory come back to me the
• 3:06
Speaker 4: other day. Your roommate would totally mess up the call.
• 3:10
Speaker 4: So I come back into the room and my roommate
• 3:13
Speaker 4: Karen said, so and so called, and I said, okay,
• 3:18
Speaker 4: like it was really random, like she basically said, like
• 3:21
Speaker 4: Teddy called, So I called back this guy Teddy and
• 3:25
Speaker 4: it was this awkward, weird conversation because really Eddie called,
• 3:30
Speaker 4: but she said Teddy and it was so am I
• 3:33
Speaker 4: still to this day, thirty years later, I'm like, I
• 3:37
  Speaker 4: called Teddy.
• 3:38
Speaker 2: Like Lily, we didn't even have computers.
• 3:41
Speaker 6: We had brother word processors that were like huge suitcases.
• 3:45
Speaker 2: Do you remember those, Amy? We would sit up.
• 3:47
  Speaker 4: I mean I actually had a computer. I was kind
• 3:49
  Speaker 4: of advancing.
• 3:49
  Speaker 7: I had.
• 3:49
Speaker 2: You were a very fancy because I had I.
• 3:51
Speaker 4: Had a computer. What that had discs? And I would
• 3:55
Speaker 4: take the disc down to this thing on bank Craft
• 3:58
Speaker 4: and print out my papers floppy discs.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: I can't even think about what that looks like. I
• 4:04
Speaker 1: can't even have you ever heard of it? Typewriter, Lily, Yes, yes,
• 4:09
Speaker 1: but you guys didn't use typewriters.
• 4:12
Speaker 4: We did some people, sure did they?
• 4:14
  Speaker 3: Sure?
• 4:16
Speaker 5: Jen? You use it for what?
• 4:18
Speaker 2: Mine was almost a type type I.
• 4:21
Speaker 3: Mean so, I mean it was close there in terms
• 4:23
Speaker 3: of like computers starting to use computers for papers. But
• 4:26
  Speaker 3: like I'm talking about, like I when I had a
• 4:28
Speaker 3: big paper, even in college, if I was I would
• 4:31
Speaker 3: take it, I would write it out, take it to
• 4:32
Speaker 3: my mother, she was a secretary. She would type out
• 4:35
Speaker 3: the paper away so I could turn it in. Yeah, totally. No.
• 4:39
Speaker 4: There was only a few of us that had computers.
• 4:42
Speaker 4: So I had this Apple two E and it would
• 4:44
Speaker 4: be this big monitor and then there was a computer,
• 4:47
Speaker 4: and then you would put the disc in save your
• 4:50
Speaker 4: stuff onto this disc and then some people maybe had
• 4:53
Speaker 4: a printer, but I had to take it down and
• 4:54
Speaker 4: get it printed, and then I would turn my paper in.
• 4:57
Speaker 4: But I had the advantage because I could edit and
• 5:00
Speaker 4: make changes, whereas poor Nikki the brother only had like
• 5:03
Speaker 4: a small screen. So if you if you printed that
• 5:06
  Speaker 4: never wide out.
• 5:07
Speaker 5: You have to you.
• 5:10
Speaker 3: Have to like wide out it and then blow on
• 5:11
Speaker 3: it so you can go over it.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: I think about this all the time, like what if
• 5:16
Speaker 1: if you were running late or you had to cancel
• 5:20
Speaker 1: on something, how would you get ahold of someone you
• 5:22
  Speaker 1: just did it?
• 5:23
  Speaker 5: You just couldn't.
• 5:24
Speaker 2: I had a pager a beeper in high school, but
• 5:29
Speaker 2: I don't know Amy did we have one?
• 5:31
Speaker 5: But does it page? What's a pager? What does that do?
• 5:33
Speaker 5: Is that connected to your landlord?
• 5:35
Speaker 6: Well, the other person had to have a beeper too,
• 5:37
Speaker 6: So if Amy didn't have a beeper and I had
• 5:39
Speaker 6: a beeper and I was beeping, she wouldn't get it,
• 5:42
Speaker 6: so I guess we were maybe never late or we just.
• 5:45
  Speaker 2: I don't know.
• 5:46
Speaker 4: Crazier thing is how we ever met up with the
• 5:50
  Speaker 4: fraternity boys.
• 5:51
Speaker 5: Want to regnize, So you would basically.
• 5:54
Speaker 4: Hope for the best. So you would go with your
• 5:55
Speaker 4: sorority sisters to Henry's or kIPS or Rawley's or some
• 6:02
Speaker 4: other bear's layer, and you would just hope for the best.
• 6:06
Speaker 4: You would hope that the guy you kind of had
• 6:08
Speaker 4: a crush on or the couple guys would be there too,
• 6:13
Speaker 4: and you would just sort of hope. Now, maybe you
• 6:15
Speaker 4: would landline to landline, so you might call Mike at
• 6:19
Speaker 4: SAE and be like, hey, you guys going down the hill,
• 6:21
Speaker 4: and then you would just hope for the best.
• 6:24
Speaker 6: But here's the I mean, look, here's the reality of
• 6:26
Speaker 6: it is. Greek life is multi generational, despite the different lingo,
• 6:33
Speaker 6: despite the different electronics we all have, despite I mean,
• 6:37
Speaker 6: the truth is is it's an institution that has spanned many, many,
• 6:42
Speaker 6: many decades, right, even though things have changed with the world.
• 6:46
Speaker 6: So going back to that kind of sisterhood concept or
• 6:50
Speaker 6: word that we used, but it's interesting that that almost
• 6:54
Speaker 6: doesn't translate on as deep of a level, right, like
• 7:01
Speaker 6: it was it clickier in later years.
• 7:04
Speaker 2: Would you say, like how many people were in your pledge.
• 7:06
  Speaker 5: Class sixty six?
• 7:10
Speaker 4: Oh yeah, well, I mean we had thirty maybe.
• 7:13
Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean I think it depends on school. I
• 7:16
Speaker 5: think it's still very clique.
• 7:18
  Speaker 1: I think there's still but there's there's friendships between sororities,
• 7:21
Speaker 1: like my freshman year roommate, because of who your roommates
• 7:24
Speaker 1: are freshman year, who you meet freshman year. I think
• 7:26
Speaker 1: the later rush at different schools, it makes it so
• 7:30
Speaker 1: you have a lot of different friends in your stories.
• 7:32
Speaker 1: But totally there's still a clique aspect, but it's not uncommon.
• 7:37
Speaker 1: It was almost if you were only friends with girls
• 7:40
Speaker 1: in different sororities from your own and those were your
• 7:43
Speaker 1: main best friends, that was almost that's a red flag.
• 7:46
Speaker 6: Well, no different than somebody who doesn't have friends from
• 7:48
Speaker 6: their past and they're only friends within the chapter that
• 7:51
  Speaker 6: they're existing.
• 7:51
Speaker 4: It right, right, that kind of But I think it's
• 7:54
Speaker 4: interesting to say, like, I have a lot of good
• 7:56
Speaker 4: friends that were pi Fi's, DG's couple tried ELTs maybe
• 7:59
  Speaker 4: a kayah, that's.
• 8:01
Speaker 2: It why because the lower tier didn't.
• 8:03
Speaker 4: Speak to you, tag Amy, I'm just telling the truth.
• 8:06
Speaker 4: This is a truthful place.
• 8:08
Speaker 1: That still rings very true because all the same sororities
• 8:11
Speaker 1: hang out with all the same fraternities, right.
• 8:27
Speaker 3: I always say this, it's a very funny thing. Texas
• 8:30
Speaker 3: at the University of Texas. Let me show you that
• 8:32
Speaker 3: Jewish people are a minority, oh time, big time. When
• 8:36
Speaker 3: I went to University of Texas, it felt like everybody
• 8:38
Speaker 3: in Texas was Jewish because that's exactly I Everybody I
• 8:44
Speaker 3: knew was either in DBT, Sammy a fire STT and
• 8:50
Speaker 3: that's just how we rolled, and so every party ever
• 8:52
Speaker 3: so so you know, I didn't feel I feel like
• 8:56
Speaker 3: sometimes even growing up in Texas, I felt more Jewish there.
• 9:01
Speaker 3: I know it sounds weird, but because everyone I knew
• 9:04
Speaker 3: I was always surrounded by Jewish people.
• 9:07
Speaker 6: I have a question on Lingo, Lily to ask you,
• 9:10
Speaker 6: as I was looking at Jen wondering if she's married
• 9:14
Speaker 6: to her college boyfriend or not. No, no, okay, just
• 9:18
Speaker 6: check in because a lot of my friends are Lily.
• 9:23
Speaker 2: Did they This is going to really age me. It's
• 9:25
Speaker 2: going to sound super old fashioned. Did they ever have pinnings?
• 9:29
Speaker 5: I've had a pinning with my college boyfriend.
• 9:32
Speaker 2: Are you still pinned? Are you still attached?
• 9:34
  Speaker 5: No, sadly, Oh.
• 9:37
Speaker 4: No, thanks for bringing that up, Nikki, thanks for bringing
• 9:39
  Speaker 4: that up.
• 9:40
Speaker 5: No, no, no, we're good. We're good.
• 9:42
Speaker 4: Here's something that's interesting about Nicky's era. At her school,
• 9:47
Speaker 4: there was an extraordinary amount of couples her age that
• 9:53
Speaker 4: married each other that are still Married's like amazing, very
• 9:58
Speaker 4: very I know some like I could name ten couples
• 10:04
Speaker 4: from Nicky's class and maybe the class below, class above
• 10:09
Speaker 4: that married each other and are still married and still
• 10:12
Speaker 4: like happy. End quotes.
• 10:14
Speaker 3: Do you guys have candlelighting? So we'd sit in a circle,
• 10:18
Speaker 3: there'd be a lit candle and it was very sacred.
• 10:22
Speaker 2: And you were wearing all white.
• 10:23
Speaker 3: You were all white, and you passed the candle around
• 10:26
Speaker 3: and it was like it was engagement that somebody was
• 10:28
Speaker 3: now engaged to be engaged to. The girl had been
• 10:31
Speaker 3: I guess pinned and she blew out the candle and
• 10:34
Speaker 3: it went crazy. It's just so funny. But Rachel, if
• 10:37
Speaker 3: I find out that you're engaged to be engaged to
• 10:39
Speaker 3: be engaged to be engaged, you're dead.
• 10:41
Speaker 2: Okay, l shes twenty three and she's in New York.
• 10:45
Speaker 4: He was in New York.
• 10:46
Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'm like, don't even think about it, sweetheart.
• 10:50
Speaker 4: Because I think it's interesting to talk about boys in
• 10:53
Speaker 4: the sorority. So Lily will Nicky and I will tell
• 10:58
Speaker 4: you about boys in our sorority, and then you tell
• 10:59
Speaker 4: us what it's like.
• 11:00
  Speaker 6: Now.
• 11:00
Speaker 4: We actually were allowed to have boys, which was kind
• 11:02
Speaker 4: of like, oh, they're allowed to have boys. We're allowed
• 11:05
Speaker 4: to have boys for lunch. You could have boys upstairs till.
• 11:08
Speaker 2: Ten No you couldn't. Yeah, we could, No, we could not.
• 11:12
Speaker 4: We could. You would go up they could go upstairs
• 11:15
Speaker 4: till ten pm at night and you would go on
• 11:17
Speaker 4: to the floor and you would say, man on, man on,
• 11:20
  Speaker 4: that's a big lingo thing.
• 11:22
Speaker 5: Man on, Wait, what is there.
• 11:24
Speaker 4: Is a boy in the hallway, So like don't come
• 11:27
Speaker 4: out of your room and a towel, or don't come
• 11:29
Speaker 4: out of the bathroom. You had to shout out man on,
• 11:33
Speaker 4: which meant there's a man on the floor, and.
• 11:36
Speaker 6: Vaguely, I'm menopause, hold on, it's fine, vaguely remembering this
• 11:40
Speaker 6: and that at ten no boys.
• 11:43
Speaker 4: And the other thing that was interesting was when a boy. Okay,
• 11:46
Speaker 4: so we had a front door and you'd ring the
• 11:48
Speaker 4: doorbell and we called it a foyer. I know some
• 11:51
Speaker 4: people say foyer, but it was called a foyer and
• 11:54
Speaker 4: the boy or your guest would come in. So say
• 11:57
Speaker 4: I go to the front door, open the door, and
• 11:59
Speaker 4: a boy is there for NICKI. I would get on
• 12:02
Speaker 4: the intercom and say, NICKI, you have a caller on two.
• 12:07
Speaker 4: So that way she knew it was a boy. If
• 12:09
Speaker 4: it was her friend from PYTHEI I would say, NICKI,
• 12:12
Speaker 4: you have a guest on two. That way she knew
• 12:14
Speaker 4: she could like run down looking like, you know, do
• 12:17
Speaker 4: doo and then take the girl back up or eat
• 12:20
Speaker 4: lunch or whatever. So that way, there was an indicator
• 12:23
Speaker 4: on the intercoll right if it was a you know,
• 12:27
Speaker 4: a girl or a boy, and people would pop over.
• 12:30
Speaker 4: There also was like all of a sudden, a boy
• 12:32
Speaker 4: would just like ring the door and they'd be like,
• 12:34
Speaker 4: you have a caller on too, and you'd be like,
• 12:36
Speaker 4: who is it? And then it would be some friend
• 12:38
Speaker 4: or could they sleep over? No, boys could not sleep over.
• 12:41
Speaker 4: They had to leave at ten.
• 12:43
Speaker 3: Boys could move mast the foyer foyer. I think that
• 12:46
Speaker 3: there was a room right there, like a living room
• 12:48
Speaker 3: that they can go into, maybe into the dining room,
• 12:51
Speaker 3: but I don't remember them so.
• 12:53
Speaker 4: We had a living room, a TV room, and a
• 12:56
Speaker 4: date room. It was called the date room. I think
• 12:58
Speaker 4: we've talked about this on this show show before now. Weirdly,
• 13:02
Speaker 4: I don't remember anyone like really using the date room.
• 13:05
Speaker 4: It was always empty.
• 13:06
Speaker 6: We used to watch in my time Beverly Hill's nine
• 13:09
  Speaker 6: or two hours.
• 13:10
Speaker 4: That was the TV room, General Hospital.
• 13:12
Speaker 2: Melrose Place. Where was the Where was it?
• 13:16
Speaker 4: If you were in the TV room and you looked
• 13:19
Speaker 4: out those doors towards the mailboxes. The date room was
• 13:22
Speaker 4: that fancy room right near the mailbox room.
• 13:25
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I remember that.
• 13:27
  Speaker 5: A date room.
• 13:28
Speaker 4: And you could have a boy for lunch. I think
• 13:32
Speaker 4: you could have a boy for dinner. Not on Mondays,
• 13:35
Speaker 4: no breakfast if a boy strolled.
• 13:38
Speaker 3: I can't believe you. You have such a good memory, you.
• 13:41
Speaker 4: Really, you really do. I don't know if I'm acting,
• 13:43
Speaker 4: but I do the best I can.
• 13:45
Speaker 5: You were allowed to have boys for lunch and dinner.
• 13:47
Speaker 5: Breakfast too was like technical.
• 13:50
Speaker 4: Could you have boys in your bedrooms?
• 13:51
  Speaker 5: Yes?
• 13:52
Speaker 2: Could they sleep over?
• 13:53
Speaker 4: But yes, but this they oh they could sleep over
• 13:57
Speaker 4: or you snuck them.
• 13:58
Speaker 1: Over everyone else like all the other in this was
• 14:02
Speaker 1: a real thing. Like at my school.
• 14:05
  Speaker 5: It was really.
• 14:06
Speaker 1: Everyone was pretty mad at us because we had a
• 14:09
Speaker 1: very young house mom who let a lot of things,
• 14:13
Speaker 1: a lot of sister house Yeah. She she was twenty five,
• 14:19
Speaker 1: like right out of college and started being her house mom.
• 14:22
Speaker 1: And she was really young, Like.
• 14:23
Speaker 4: Why would she even want that job?
• 14:25
Speaker 1: I think, I mean like free rent money and then
• 14:28
Speaker 1: living in la and she was doing other things.
• 14:31
Speaker 2: Was she in your sorority?
• 14:33
Speaker 5: She went to Syracuse. But she was like a friend.
• 14:35
Speaker 5: I don't know. We loved her.
• 14:36
Speaker 4: Our house mom was definitely a grandma and somebody aunt
• 14:40
  Speaker 4: Billie or something.
• 14:41
  Speaker 2: We had Marge.
• 14:42
Speaker 1: Everyone else other every other house had that, but we
• 14:44
Speaker 1: had the young house mom so we could kind of
• 14:46
  Speaker 1: I don't know, she didn't care.
• 14:47
  Speaker 5: We had always.
• 14:48
Speaker 4: Sairly ever saw the house mom. She would like hop
• 14:51
Speaker 4: out of that apartment once in a blue moon. But
• 14:54
Speaker 4: she was definitely more like a grandma. And she had
• 14:56
Speaker 4: this room. It was like she had a little apartment
• 14:59
Speaker 4: within the roty house.
• 15:00
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 15:01
Speaker 2: Yeah, she ate her room I think too, didn't she.
• 15:04
Speaker 4: Oh she never came down for like meals. She probably
• 15:06
Speaker 4: was like what am I doing.
• 15:06
Speaker 5: With these crazy ours would hang out?
• 15:08
Speaker 1: We would, but like we would do I mean, we
• 15:10
Speaker 1: had a courtyard and we would people would like smoke
• 15:13
Speaker 1: pot in the courtyard.
• 15:14
Speaker 7: Oh no, and like but they can't use the word rush, right, Nikki,
• 15:34
Speaker 7: do you remember how we got in trouble, Like the
• 15:38
Speaker 7: whole house was in trouble in not in a like
• 15:43
Speaker 7: you're busted, but like almost in an embarrassing way, because
• 15:46
Speaker 7: people would take their lunch upstairs, eat their lunch and
• 15:50
Speaker 7: put their dishes outside their door, like we were at
• 15:52
Speaker 7: a hotel and just expect somebody to come pick up
• 15:55
  Speaker 7: their their plates.
• 15:56
Speaker 4: And then also there would be like somebody would have
• 15:58
Speaker 4: fourteen cups in their room, they'd like take their cups upstairs.
• 16:02
Speaker 4: We had at one hasher, but back in the day,
• 16:05
Speaker 4: what's a hasher? The hasher was the guy that was
• 16:07
Speaker 4: doing the dishes and he worked at a fraternity, right yeah,
• 16:11
Speaker 4: or he was like a guy making money. On Mondays
• 16:14
Speaker 4: you had formal dinner, so you would sit and I
• 16:16
Speaker 4: think he would clear your plates, sure, like a server.
• 16:20
Speaker 4: But back in the day, there would be like ten
• 16:22
Speaker 4: hashers and they My dad was a hasher and my
• 16:26
Speaker 4: mom was in the sortie and that's how they met
• 16:27
Speaker 4: and got married. They came from the law school and
• 16:30
Speaker 4: they would I think they had formal dinner, like many
• 16:32
Speaker 4: nights a week, so they were always like serving and
• 16:35
Speaker 4: clearing like you were at like a four five star restaurants. Crazy.
• 16:40
Speaker 6: Really, did you guys have father daughter dances and mother
• 16:44
  Speaker 6: daughter launcheins?
• 16:45
  Speaker 7: No?
• 16:46
  Speaker 4: What?
• 16:47
Speaker 5: No, you had? Oh here's another lingo. We could not.
• 16:52
Speaker 1: We no longer had mom's weekend, which I think this
• 16:54
Speaker 1: is for the best because I had a friend who
• 16:57
Speaker 1: lost her mom. But if you have two dad's, right,
• 17:01
Speaker 1: so you call it role model weekend and you could
• 17:04
Speaker 1: bring you know, usually people would bring their moms or
• 17:07
  Speaker 1: their dads.
• 17:07
Speaker 4: I like that you didn't have like a father daughter
• 17:10
  Speaker 4: dinner auction dance.
• 17:13
Speaker 3: My dad didn't come, we did.
• 17:14
Speaker 5: No, no one did that.
• 17:16
Speaker 1: What what your father would fly in just for this dance?
• 17:22
Speaker 6: Yes, we have pictures with like the sure printed pictures.
• 17:26
Speaker 4: And it was like a big fundraiser too. There was
• 17:28
Speaker 4: like a big auction and they would like auction off
• 17:30
Speaker 4: items and then all the dads would like bid on them.
• 17:33
Speaker 3: You don't like Texas? Oh you weekend?
• 17:35
Speaker 2: Oh they're going this weekend, Jen, it's the it's this weekend.
• 17:38
Speaker 2: It's still a thing tomorrow first overnight.
• 17:43
Speaker 3: It's huge Texas, So use a big this weekend.
• 17:47
Speaker 5: This is so fun. I never knew about the father
• 17:49
  Speaker 5: daughter thing.
• 17:50
Speaker 2: Well, not only that, we do mom's mom.
• 17:53
  Speaker 6: There's parents weekend, and there's mom's weekend, and there's dad's weekend.
• 17:57
Speaker 4: And parents came to I cannot remember what it was called.
• 18:01
Speaker 4: There was bid day presence. Was it called presence?
• 18:06
Speaker 6: Said at still before you get your bid at least
• 18:11
Speaker 6: in the South or Texas. Gen Literally the moms and
• 18:16
Speaker 6: the grandma's are waiting at the hotel for the call,
• 18:21
Speaker 6: and they all are a part of that bid day.
• 18:25
Speaker 4: And we had this thing where it was mid day
• 18:26
Speaker 4: and then a few weeks later you would get dressed
• 18:28
Speaker 4: up in like more of a like a sun dressy
• 18:30
Speaker 4: type dress and there would be sort of like a
• 18:32
Speaker 4: tea and crumpets type of vibe in the courtyard. And
• 18:35
Speaker 4: I think moms came, but I think maybe dads came,
• 18:38
Speaker 4: I don't know, and they would like present the pledges,
• 18:40
Speaker 4: but definitely like moms were there. My mom wasn't.
• 18:44
  Speaker 3: I don't remember her.
• 18:45
Speaker 1: This is this is still a thing with us too,
• 18:47
Speaker 1: Like your mom and your mom and dad come and
• 18:49
Speaker 1: watch you, Yeah, get presented for presents. Yeah, and it's
• 18:52
Speaker 1: like and it's after initiation. You have to be initiated.
• 18:56
Speaker 1: So there's it's you know, like within the first two months.
• 18:58
Speaker 3: They get so different school to school. So I didn't
• 19:00
Speaker 3: do that for Rachel either. I don't remember how I mean,
• 19:02
Speaker 3: I was there for her. There was a red dress charity,
• 19:05
Speaker 3: and there's parents Weekend, but there wasn't I remember any
• 19:09
  Speaker 3: of that.
• 19:09
Speaker 4: Was there any other lingo we haven't gotten to today.
• 19:12
Speaker 3: Oh let's see, we talked about house Mother just now.
• 19:15
Speaker 6: We did Hometown Pro and conn nice.
• 19:19
Speaker 3: You talked about pr risk, which we didn't have it
• 19:21
Speaker 3: back in the day.
• 19:22
Speaker 4: But oh yeah, I can't tell, Like is it good
• 19:26
Speaker 4: or bad to be like popular on social media?
• 19:29
Speaker 5: I think it depends on what you post on social media.
• 19:32
Speaker 6: But Lily, I was told with my friend's daughters that
• 19:35
Speaker 6: were going through rush that you have to have a
• 19:39
Speaker 6: social media following. So I had many young daughters who
• 19:42
Speaker 6: had to like literally take days of changing outfits and
• 19:46
Speaker 6: posing and this not to like build a social media
• 19:49
  Speaker 6: almost campaign.
• 19:51
Speaker 1: Yeah, because if you only have like five posts in
• 19:53
Speaker 1: their kind of random, they're they're like, who is this girl?
• 19:55
  Speaker 5: Where our friends?
• 19:56
Speaker 4: And no love your posting?
• 19:58
  Speaker 6: Yeah?
• 19:58
Speaker 1: Yeah, But if you have, yeah, Like, if you have
• 20:00
Speaker 1: like a few thousand followers, and you know people are
• 20:04
Speaker 1: like twenty eight to fifty or whatever, people are commenting
• 20:07
Speaker 1: on each post and liking them, then it's yeah, I mean,
• 20:11
Speaker 1: that's that that bodes well for sure. If there's not
• 20:13
Speaker 1: a lot, there's not a lot to look at.
• 20:15
Speaker 4: Yeah, I see. I think it would be the opposite,
• 20:17
Speaker 4: Like I would want the girl that has no social media.
• 20:19
Speaker 4: I'd be like, I want her. She seems cool, girl,
• 20:21
  Speaker 4: she's mysterious.
• 20:22
Speaker 5: I mean, you're going against your I feel like you're going.
• 20:25
  Speaker 4: I'm an anomaly.
• 20:26
Speaker 3: Actually, Well, when it comes to boys, she wants to
• 20:31
Speaker 3: make sure that they're cool. When it comes to girls,
• 20:32
Speaker 3: they should be misteraious.
• 20:33
Speaker 4: They really need to be top tier. There you go,
• 20:36
Speaker 4: I'm gonna hang out with them.
• 20:38
Speaker 6: Amy, It's probably good you didn't have a daughter that
• 20:40
Speaker 6: went through RUSH, because let me tell.
• 20:41
Speaker 4: You, my niece went through RUSH and I didn't sleep
• 20:44
Speaker 4: for a week. And this is a thing we will
• 20:46
Speaker 4: talk about this in a future episode, because it is
• 20:49
Speaker 4: universal that I think the moms these days are stressing
• 20:52
Speaker 4: more than the kid. Like I had a friend whose
• 20:55
Speaker 4: daughter just went through and she ended up in a
• 20:57
Speaker 4: top house. It went great.
• 20:58
Speaker 2: Did you have a rush coach?
• 21:00
Speaker 3: No, we talked about that weeks a few weeks ago.
• 21:03
Speaker 4: Down we've talked about that and it's still sort of
• 21:04
Speaker 4: a debate. But no, she just did her thing. She
• 21:07
Speaker 4: got a top house. But the poor mom, who's like
• 21:09
Speaker 4: one of my best friends, was just sick all week.
• 21:12
Speaker 4: It's just so stressful. And then finally on midday they
• 21:15
Speaker 4: just couldn't take it anymore and they're just following the
• 21:18
Speaker 4: find my Phone app to see where she's going because
• 21:21
Speaker 4: obviously she's too busy to call, and they're just like,
• 21:24
Speaker 4: her phone is at this sorority and I go, yeah,
• 21:27
Speaker 4: you guys, she's in. Like, no one's taking her phone to.
• 21:30
Speaker 6: The house with that school where my friend's daughter did
• 21:35
Speaker 6: not get a house.
• 21:36
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean we can shout it out. Cal Poly
• 21:39
Speaker 4: is a rough rush.
• 21:40
Speaker 2: Now, so is San Diego State.
• 21:42
Speaker 4: I mean it's oh, San Diego Steita I heard is
• 21:44
Speaker 4: like one of the worst.
• 21:45
Speaker 5: It's so rough. Yeah, cal Poly is super rough, bolder.
• 21:49
Speaker 2: It happened to a friend of mine's daughter.
• 21:51
Speaker 3: Happened to a friend of mine's too. This year. She
• 21:53
Speaker 3: didn't get in, and then she got in genuous open. Yeah,
• 21:57
Speaker 3: so she didn't get in, and then my other friend
• 21:59
Speaker 3: there's like two best friend. So my other friend's daughter
• 22:02
Speaker 3: did get into her top whatever. Then this friend the
• 22:05
Speaker 3: daughter didn't get in anywhere and then got in on
• 22:08
  Speaker 3: whatever that's called.
• 22:10
Speaker 4: Cob is way bigger now than it was. All right, Jen, Well,
• 22:14
Speaker 4: I think we're out of time. Sorry to be the producer,
• 22:16
Speaker 4: but I think we're out of time. But we'll continue this.
• 22:20
Speaker 4: And also I think that for people listening, like it
• 22:22
Speaker 4: is our goal, even though we sometimes sound icky, I
• 22:26
Speaker 4: don't know what to say to really make it truthful
• 22:29
Speaker 4: for people listening because we watch these documentaries and you
• 22:32
Speaker 4: watch TikTok and you see all these things about rush
• 22:35
Speaker 4: out in the universe now, but they're all curated where
• 22:40
Speaker 4: we're trying hard to like really answer your questions. So
• 22:43
Speaker 4: send us your questions and your criticism. We will read
• 22:46
Speaker 4: the you know, we will read the good and the bad.
• 22:50
Speaker 3: Amen, you guys, Thank you so much. This was really
• 22:52
Speaker 3: I have to say, it's really it makes me feel
• 22:55
Speaker 3: really old. This is the topic of lingo, but I'm
• 22:57
Speaker 3: both okay, we still love you, lil.
• 23:01
Speaker 6: Look at all these words like uber tender ways, ghosting breadcrumbs.
• 23:05
  Speaker 2: I mean, that's there's just.
• 23:06
Speaker 3: One that I don't care. And my kids can roll
• 23:08
Speaker 3: their eyes. I'm still saying, is that your big sister.
• 23:10
Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure. I think we're old just calling it lingo.
• 23:14
Speaker 4: I think, just by the very fact that we use
• 23:16
Speaker 4: the word lingo, Lily's rolling her eyes at us.
• 23:23
Speaker 1: I think you guys are great, and I love hearing
• 23:25
Speaker 1: your stories about your typewriters and you're white out and
• 23:28
  Speaker 1: your kids.
• 23:29
Speaker 3: Okay, that's enough, Okay, see you guys soon.
• 23:32
  Speaker 5: Bye.
