- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Well, wait till I tell you what happened yesterday.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: I I miss one day and I feel like I miss everything.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, this didn't even happen during the show or during the day.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: This happened to me after the show.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: So let me let me just set this up.
- 0:15unknown: Murder.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We have a travesty of financial justice happening around us.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Is it in this building or is it at your house?
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Neither.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: So do you remember the straw drama that we went through a couple years back with McDonald's?
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: And then they brought the original straws back.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: If the if if someone doesn't remember, because just today we've had someone join us and say, I'm only a few months into the show, and I'm like, well, welcome.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so cool.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: And if you are new like that person, make sure you register on our app, Wink106, Twin Tears Magic, My Radio Jams.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Any of those three.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: And once you register, you can message us anytime during the show with a little notebook or the little microphone where it says message Scott and Alley and just join in on the show.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna take you back uh uh well at least four years, wasn't it?
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: I think it was about then, yeah, three or four.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: About four years ago, all of a sudden McDonald's in New York specifically pulls this real shady trick where they got rid of their classic straws.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And McDonald's is quite well known for their straws.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Which is so stupid, exactly, because that is the only reason why I go for a Coca-Cola or a Dye Coke from them.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Not the only reason, but that the straw really is like the package deal.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: We we preached to the high hills trying to get the official answer.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Was there a shortage?
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Because this was post-pandemic.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: And it could have been.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: There was a shortage, and then we thought, oh, is that the crappy New York lawmakers going, well, you can't use those straws anymore.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: They gotta be able to degrade easier because God forbid.
- 1:45SPEAKER_01: Because they were the new ones were clear, they broke all the time.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Anytime you even just sucked on it, it would snap right down the middle.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Then all of a sudden, and and we were getting reports from everywhere, like, you know, and and then we we even had someone someone dropped off an entire box of the original McDonald's straws to us here.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: And I still have them in case this ever happens ever again.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: There look, it's like it's it's like a survival package.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: If you know you have to go underground and live for 12 years, you know, you've got cans and you've got McDonald's straws.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: So that person, we love you.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: So, at any rate, then suddenly, and this was where it got real weird, the straws came back.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Everything normal.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: I know, it's great.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: So then yesterday, um, I'm picking up Tiffany, her Diet Cokes, three large Diet Cokes.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Oh sweet.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: This is a standard order.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: This has gotten to the point the other day on Chambers Road, I pulled through that McDonald's.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I pulled up to the window, they go, Is this for Tiffany?
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Yes.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And it was then also in the afternoon.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: She was working a late shift, and I'm like, Yes, it is.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: She goes, You tell her that I said hi.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: It was the drive to it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: They know her order.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Three large Diet Cokes.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: So then yesterday, I go through the McDonald's on Main Street in Elmyra across from Wise.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: All of a sudden, here's the financial travesty of justice.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: What?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: The three large Diet Cokes that cost$447 have jumped to$625.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Overnight.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: This is what I said to you the other day.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: We just had this conversation because it used to be for one Diet Coke, it was$105, and then I think it moved to$108, and then it became$150 something.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: And then they they rolled back the price.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: So when you had said something the other day about her order being four, whatever it was.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: It's always$447.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: It's like clockwork.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: It's and and now I have to know.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: Uh is it different locations?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Am I going to avoid Main Street McDonald's because you are overcharging the diet call?
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And mind you,$447 to like$6.50 something.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: That's a$2.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: That's a that's a pretty impressive jump.
- 3:43SPEAKER_01: Let me see if I can find like a Reddit thread about this too.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I I'm not sure because I was really thrown off by that price when you said it because I thought in my head, no, I think they're more than that.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I have I I have gotten so many Diet Cokes, three three large diets for her, that I am to the point I knew the price exactly.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: I could go into my bank account and see all the different times 447, 447.
- 4:07SPEAKER_00: Now 650 something?
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Overnight it it happened.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: You know, this is she had to cut back to two.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: This I don't know about that.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: This has been happening, it looks like across the country.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: But you're right, it might be different at different places because it felt so fast.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: I wasn't I even asked the girl, I go, You sure you charge that right for three large?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: I said, Normally it's this.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: She goes, Yeah, the price went up.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: I'm like, what?
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: $150 to over$3 now, depending heavily on a high cost metro or state location.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: And uh somebody said on a Reddit thread they just paid$184 last week for a large Coke.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Hmm.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: $184.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: $246.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: That would make a that's about here it is.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: I just got this one right here.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: This one.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Bath just changed to$2.04 for a large.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: That's from$24.57.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: This is a travesty! And Demi put this, yes, and my kids' happy meals went up two bucks too.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, no, no.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Demi, I'm gonna help you around that in a second.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: What's that?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Wait, wait, but uh one thing about this whole 204 thing, that's also why I always picked McDonald's because Wendy's their Diet Coke is like almost four bucks.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I think it's 396.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: I'm like, 396.
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: I thought everybody picked McDonald's Diet Cokes because it was the way they mix and the the just their fountain version.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, but I can do I can tell you this.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Now, this isn't as convenient as a drive-thru.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: 7 Eleven for the summer, they were doing like 60 some cents and now it's like 89 cents.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: She will not accept a 7 Eleven Diet Coke.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: No, I will, I shouldn't say that.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: If if we were in a situation there was no McDonald's nearby or she was totally out, she'd drink it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Right, when you're in a pinch.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: If it's not a pinch, it's gotta be the McDonald's three large diet cokes now.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: I think it's a very close second, Tiffany.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Very close second.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: But uh yeah, she I and you're right, they're their big ones are a good price.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: But I was floored, I know it sounds ridiculous.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: I was floored by$2.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: But it really hit me.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: I'm like, I've ordered this a million times.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: I feel the same way whenever, because you're used to getting the same thing.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: And there's been times where I'm I still use change sometimes.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: If I have change from a previous transaction, then I'll just use a bunch of change when I'm buying a Diet Coke.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: And then all of a sudden they tell me something that's way higher.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: I'm like, I don't have enough change.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Well, and then I'm all of a sudden looking underneath my seat.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: I'm looking at my work bag.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: I'm like, ugh, I am beginning the official protest McDonald's.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: You better roll that back.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: Now listen, Demi, let me help you with this.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: 1118.
- 6:26SPEAKER_00: She said her kids' happy meals went up two bucks.
- 6:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Scott's been preaching this for a long time.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: I figured out the hack.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: First of all, in West Virginia, uh one time I'm driving back from I think it was getting the kids, whatever.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: And uh the nice Southern lady, I was gonna get a 10-piece of chicken McDonald's.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: She goes, you know, baby child, honey, sweetie, baby child, uh, darling.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: Uh, she goes, go with the 20-piece.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: It's a better deal than the 10-piece.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I didn't know that.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: I did not know that the 20-piece is actually a cheaper deal than the 10-piece.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: So, Demi, you're listening, 20-piece.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: So, but there's a way to do it.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Order the big box meal at McDonald's.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I preached this a week and a half ago.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I know you did.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: The big box meal.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: It comes with two cheeseburgers.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: You can get them any way you want, or get them plain.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: It comes with two large fries and it comes with 20-piece McNuggets.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: It's$15.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: They just don't get a toy.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: And yeah.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: The toy goes in the garbage anyway.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Demi, you know the toy goes in the garbage.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: You know what you do with the toy?
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: I got that plan all ready to go to.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: What?
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: You go to the dollar store or the dollar tree and you just grab a bunch of crappy little toys that you have in your glove box.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Shrimp them in the box.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Mom, this isn't the new Lego toy at McDonald's.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Yes, it is.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Shut up.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: And McDonald's hasn't had a good toy in forever.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: And then just shove a cheeseburger in their mouth.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: McDonald's is coming off these FIFA World.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: You know what?
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: Here it is.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, do you have one?
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's the FIFA World Cup cup.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Right into the garbage right there.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Actually, that's a great guy.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: That's a great cup for when you want to like take a glass of wine to the park.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, here, let me give it to you.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: You can you can here, you can wash it.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: There.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: But it's all for the sound effects.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure why I'm taking a glass of wine to the park.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: They're coming off FIFA.
- 8:05SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they did anything with Moana, that turn of a movie.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So you're not even getting a good toy anymore at McDonald's.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: They don't have the Lego thing anymore.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Just go to the dollar store, get a bunch of cheap old crap tchotkis, and then order that big box meal.
- 8:17SPEAKER_00: I just saved you an ass ton of money.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Where you get the the rock's coloring book.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: And it doesn't really look like the rock.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: It's like the grape value because it's like only on the show.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: It looks like the block.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, because it's a short piece of paper.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: And then get yourself a tie of coke for$18.99.
