- 0:07Good evening, and welcome to this Christmas night
- 0:10message from Voices of Life, from the Church
- 0:14for Life. I'm Pastor David, and tonight I want
- 0:18to invite you into a moment of reflection. Christmas
- 0:24Day has come and gone. The gifts have been opened,
- 0:29the meals shared, the laughter, and maybe the
- 0:35quiet moments too. And now, on Christmas night,
- 0:39there is a space to reflect. So I'm going to
- 0:46start off with reflecting upon myself and tell
- 0:52you a little bit about my journey. So ten years
- 0:57ago, on Christmas Day, my journey as a pastor
- 1:00began. Not with fanfare. Not with a spotlight,
- 1:06but with a calling. Tonight, I want to share
- 1:12that journey with you. Not to elevate a career,
- 1:17but to honor a calling. Because Christmas is
- 1:24not just about where Jesus was born. It's about
- 1:29why he came. and how his call reaches into every
- 1:35season of our lives. There's something sacred
- 1:41about reflection. It allows us to look back,
- 1:45not with regret, but with gratitude. Scripture
- 1:53tells us in Luke chapter 2 that Mary pondered
- 1:58these things in her heart. She reflected. She
- 2:04remembered. She considered how God had been at
- 2:10work all along. Reflection helps us see the hand
- 2:16of God, even in seasons where we didn't recognize
- 2:21it at the time. Tonight is one of those moments.
- 2:27A moment to reflect on how God uses every step,
- 2:33every role, every season, to prepare us for his
- 2:38purpose. Before I ever stood behind a pulpit
- 2:46or offered a prayer to my congregation, I stood
- 2:55in uniform. My journey in law enforcement spanned
- 3:00nearly 30 years. beginning as a police explorer
- 3:06scout. I was a young person learning discipline,
- 3:12service to community, and responsibility. That
- 3:21journey continued as a law enforcement officer,
- 3:24serving in Florida, Tennessee, and later back
- 3:30in Florida again. The years filled with long
- 3:36nights, hard calls, moments of danger, and moments
- 3:45of deep humanity. The majority of my career,
- 3:53I was either a school resource officer or drug
- 3:57abuse resistance education officer. I worked
- 4:01a lot with families and children. I've seen the
- 4:05best of people and the brokenness of this world
- 4:09up close. Law enforcement teaches you things
- 4:16no classroom ever could. It teaches you how fragile
- 4:21life is, how quickly things can change, and how
- 4:29desperately people need hope. even when they
- 4:34don't know how to ask for it. Looking back now,
- 4:39I see it very clearly. God was shaping my heart
- 4:44long before I recognized his call. He was teaching
- 4:49me how to stand in the gap, how to listen and
- 4:55to hear what is actually being said, how to remain
- 4:59calm in chaos. How to serve without applause.
- 5:06In fact, how to serve with lots of ridicule at
- 5:10times. Those lessons didn't end when I left the
- 5:15badge behind. They followed me into ministry.
- 5:24Ten years ago on Christmas Day, God did something
- 5:28unexpected in my life. He didn't call me away
- 5:33from service. He called me deeper into it. Pastoral
- 5:41ministry wasn't a rejection of my past. It was
- 5:48a fulfillment of it. God doesn't waste experiences.
- 5:56He redeems them. Every conversation on the street,
- 6:01every crisis response, every moment of compassion,
- 6:09they were all preparing me to shepherd hearts
- 6:16instead of patrol beats. The calling into God's
- 6:24service didn't arrive with all the answers. It
- 6:29came with faith, with obedience, with a willingness
- 6:36to say, Here I am, Lord. Use me. Just like the
- 6:45shepherds on that first Christmas night. Ordinary
- 6:50people doing ordinary work. And they received.
- 6:58extraordinary invitation Christmas reminds me
- 7:08and I think it reminds all of us that God enters
- 7:13the world through humility Jesus wasn't born
- 7:19into comfort he wasn't placed in a palace he
- 7:24entered a broken world to redeem it And that
- 7:30same Jesus still calls people today. Not because
- 7:37they are perfect, but because they are willing.
- 7:42Calling doesn't always change your surroundings.
- 7:46Sometimes it changes your perspective. For me,
- 7:52law enforcement and ministry were never opposites.
- 7:58They were chapters of the same story. A story
- 8:03of service, serving the public, serving communities,
- 8:10but all the time, ultimately, serving God. Christmas
- 8:20teaches us that God meets us right where we are.
- 8:26not in any particular building, place, or thing,
- 8:31and then invites us to follow him forward. As
- 8:41I reflect tonight, I'm reminded that calling
- 8:45is rarely instant clarity. It unfolds over time.
- 8:54You may be listening tonight wondering if it
- 8:59were you, our now really matters. Let me assure
- 9:06you, it does. God uses every season, every job,
- 9:14every challenge, every success, and even every
- 9:22setback. Reflection shows us that God was present
- 9:28even when we didn't feel him. That he was guiding
- 9:34even when we didn't understand. Just as he did
- 9:41for me, he is doing for you. Christmas night
- 9:46reminds us that God keeps his promises. And his
- 9:50calling is faithful. So on this Christmas night
- 9:59of 2025, let us pray together. Heavenly Father,
- 10:08on this Christmas night, we thank you for the
- 10:11gift of reflection. Thank you for the journey,
- 10:16the seasons of service, the moments of calling,
- 10:20and the faith to follow where you lead. Lord,
- 10:27Thank you for sending your son Jesus to enter
- 10:31our world with humility, love, and purpose. For
- 10:36those listening tonight or reflecting on their
- 10:40own journey, bring peace to their hearts, clarity
- 10:45to their calling, and hope for what lies ahead.
- 10:53Help us trust that nothing in our lives is wasted.
- 10:58When placed in your hands, may we carry the light
- 11:02of Christ forward, serving others, loving faithfully,
- 11:07and walking boldly in your calling. We give you
- 11:13all the glory, all the honor, and all the praise.
- 11:20In the name of Jesus. Amen. Thank you for joining
- 11:27me on this Christmas night. May you rest in God's
- 11:31peace and walk confidently into the calling he
- 11:36has placed in your life. Merry Christmas from
- 11:41Pastor David and all of us at the Church for
- 11:44Life. Good night.
