- 0:00Speaker 1: What's Up. This is Valentino, the drummer and one fourth
- 0:04Speaker 1: of the band of Mice and Men. Our new album,
- 0:07Speaker 1: Another Miracle, comes out November fourteenth.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Pick it up.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Where albums are sold and stream it on Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, YouTube, music,
- 0:17Speaker 1: wherever you want.
- 0:19Speaker 3: Beautiful, Well done, Thank you so much. Speaking of the
- 0:22Speaker 3: new album, is there anything sort of special that you
- 0:25Speaker 3: could tell us about it that maybe no one else
- 0:27Speaker 3: knows yet?
- 0:29Speaker 1: Hmmm, I don't know. I mean, unfortunately, we've been talking
- 0:38Speaker 1: about the album a lot, so I don't know what,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and we're pretty honest with our interviews. We've got nothing
- 0:44Speaker 1: to hide, there's nothing really, there's no veil of secrecy
- 0:47Speaker 1: about our music.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I've just been kind of saying like, it's got just
- 0:53Speaker 1: such a great mix of crushingly heavy to beautiful, soaring melody,
- 1:00Speaker 1: to all the spectrum of emotions from happy to sad
- 1:05Speaker 1: to It's a journey, and I think something that fans
- 1:09Speaker 1: should take away from it is please listen to it
- 1:12Speaker 1: front to back. Start at the beginning, get to the end.
- 1:16Speaker 1: If you're able to, please buy the album, look at
- 1:19Speaker 1: the linear notes, read along the lyrics. Go a little
- 1:24Speaker 1: bit deeper in a time where I feel like music
- 1:27Speaker 1: can be held at face value and just for you know,
- 1:32Speaker 1: quick immediate consumption. We make music that is deep and
- 1:39Speaker 1: layered and nuanced, and put a good pair of headphones
- 1:42Speaker 1: on and listen to these songs because it's dense. It's
- 1:46Speaker 1: not just drums, bass, guitar and vocals. There's so many layers.
- 1:50Speaker 1: We've used technology, and since we've been self producing, we
- 1:55Speaker 1: have nobody telling us no, so we're getting deeper. You know,
- 1:59Speaker 1: this is like this is like a wedding cake, but
- 2:03Speaker 1: like ten wedding cakes stacked on top of each other.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Like there's just layer after layer after layer after layer.
- 2:10Speaker 1: And if that's something that sounds exciting to our audience,
- 2:15Speaker 1: please do that. If it's not, just listen to it
- 2:17Speaker 1: and take it for what it is. Choose your favorite songs,
- 2:19Speaker 1: put them on a damn playlist, and go about your day.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But we like to make music that has leggers, that
- 2:28Speaker 1: is deep for that type of fan that likes that,
- 2:31Speaker 1: because that's how we are. Like we're first and foremost
- 2:33Speaker 1: fans of music who have spent our lives practicing our
- 2:37Speaker 1: instruments and learning how to play new instruments and trying
- 2:41Speaker 1: to develop our musical chops to be able to express
- 2:45Speaker 1: ourselves through music. And I think on our ninth album,
- 2:49Speaker 1: we're trying new things, experience quote unquote, experimenting with new
- 2:54Speaker 1: sounds and new technology in order to create music that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: like of mice and men, but sounds like of mice
- 3:02Speaker 1: and men in the future, you know. And with every album,
- 3:05Speaker 1: we like to elevate our performances and elevate the music
- 3:09Speaker 1: and the songwriting and challenge ourselves to make something better
- 3:15Speaker 1: than the last album. And I think that's something that
- 3:19Speaker 1: we strive to do and somehow man not to toot
- 3:24Speaker 1: our own horn, but somehow we do it. You know.
- 3:26Speaker 1: We finish every album and I go, how the hell
- 3:28Speaker 1: are we going to top this? And we do because
- 3:32Speaker 1: we try and achieve that through challenging ourselves and collaborating
- 3:37Speaker 1: with each other to create something that we haven't really
- 3:41Speaker 1: done before. And I think there's so much new sonic
- 3:45Speaker 1: landscape that we've discovered on Another Miracle, and we just
- 3:49Speaker 1: can't wait for everyone to hear it.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we could.
- 3:52Speaker 3: And in saying all of that, is there a song
- 3:54Speaker 3: on the album that is your particular favorite that stands
- 3:57Speaker 3: out to you?
- 4:00Speaker 1: A song specifically. Yeah, I mean, the thing with the
- 4:04Speaker 1: album is it's such a collection of different feelings and
- 4:07Speaker 1: emotion and vibes, and each song is different from the next,
- 4:12Speaker 1: you know, each song is a different almost like a
- 4:15Speaker 1: not a different style because it's all still like alternative
- 4:19Speaker 1: and metal and rock and like, but it all just
- 4:23Speaker 1: kind of depends on what we're feeling. Like Yeah, I mean,
- 4:27Speaker 1: right now, right now, I'm really vibing with the song
- 4:30Speaker 1: Troubled Water. I've been playing that one, practicing that one
- 4:34Speaker 1: for some upcoming tour dates that we have, and that
- 4:38Speaker 1: song is like, it's got a sick groove, there's some
- 4:41Speaker 1: cool drumming that. As the drummer, I do have to say,
- 4:45Speaker 1: I'm really excited for people to hear my drum performances
- 4:47Speaker 1: on this album too. I got to get a little
- 4:50Speaker 1: saucy on some of the songs and kind of pull
- 4:53Speaker 1: out some stuff that I haven't really done in a
- 4:55Speaker 1: couple albums, And in my mind, that's kind of like
- 4:57Speaker 1: what it's all about. But you could ask me later
- 5:00Speaker 1: today and I'll be vibing a different song. But yeah,
- 5:03Speaker 1: I mean, that's kind of the beauty of music, is
- 5:06Speaker 1: you put a song on when you're feeling a certain way,
- 5:08Speaker 1: you know, you put another song on. When you're feeling
- 5:10Speaker 1: another way. If you want to get real sad and
- 5:12Speaker 1: and commiserate with somebody, you put on, you know, a
- 5:15Speaker 1: really sad song or something. Or if you want to
- 5:17Speaker 1: feel empowered and and and aggressive and kick ass, like
- 5:21Speaker 1: you put on another song. And there's definitely all those
- 5:24Speaker 1: different kinds of emotions on this album. That I've said
- 5:29Speaker 1: it before and I'll say it again with the Mice
- 5:31Speaker 1: and Men, there's something for everybody. There's not just We're
- 5:35Speaker 1: not just like one hunting knife. You know, we're a
- 5:38Speaker 1: Swiss army knife. We have all different kinds of tools.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Those tools are songs, and we have nine albums worth
- 5:44Speaker 1: of material. Now that is, you know, there's something for
- 5:49Speaker 1: everybody in there, because there's so many wide ranges of
- 5:52Speaker 1: emotions in this human experience. And that's what we try
- 5:57Speaker 1: and write about is just our own experiences that are
- 6:00Speaker 1: not special to us. It's something that everybody feels. We
- 6:04Speaker 1: all go through these wide array of emotions and we
- 6:08Speaker 1: just do our best to try and communicate our feelings
- 6:12Speaker 1: through song in hopes that maybe somebody will hear that
- 6:16Speaker 1: song and feel a little bit less alone in the
- 6:18Speaker 1: way and feel a bit comforted in the same way
- 6:21Speaker 1: that this music continues to do for us.
- 6:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, great.
- 6:27Speaker 3: And whilst all your albums definitely sound like you guys,
- 6:31Speaker 3: because of course they would, they all do sound different.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I don't know if you feel the same way, but
- 6:36Speaker 2: they all do sound different.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Was there a particular thing that inspired you guys with
- 6:41Speaker 3: this album?
- 6:46Speaker 1: I mean with every album, as time progresses, there's new
- 6:50Speaker 1: bands that we come to find that kind of inspire us.
- 6:53Speaker 1: There's new life experiences that inspire us. You know, a
- 6:57Speaker 1: lot of this album speaking on behalf of it, Aaron,
- 7:00Speaker 1: A lot of this album was written before he found
- 7:03Speaker 1: out that he was going to be a father, and
- 7:05Speaker 1: so there's a lot of songs about finding purpose in
- 7:08Speaker 1: life and what is the purpose of life and what
- 7:11Speaker 1: is time and what does it all mean? And then
- 7:13Speaker 1: he found out he was going to be a father
- 7:15Speaker 1: and then wrote these incredibly beautiful songs as a tribute
- 7:19Speaker 1: to the daughter who's now living and breathing. But was
- 7:23Speaker 1: only an idea and only just a you know, a
- 7:30Speaker 1: growing baby inside his wife, you know what I mean,
- 7:33Speaker 1: And like it's just so beautiful, these experiences that were
- 7:37Speaker 1: able to share with our audience. And I think as
- 7:42Speaker 1: we go through life, finding ways to communicate that through
- 7:46Speaker 1: song and through music and through really vibrations and rhythm
- 7:51Speaker 1: and just all these kinds of like feelings. Music being
- 7:56Speaker 1: the universal language is something that we're always trying to
- 8:00Speaker 1: better ourselves at communicating. And I think with each album
- 8:06Speaker 1: we are going to always find a different way to
- 8:09Speaker 1: communicate that because those the songs that are created at
- 8:14Speaker 1: those times, they will always exist for that time and
- 8:18Speaker 1: we will never relive that moment. And so I think
- 8:22Speaker 1: it's always about constant elevation and constant progression. And not
- 8:27Speaker 1: every band has that ethos, and that's totally fine too,
- 8:30Speaker 1: Like there's no it's not like a shade, no shade
- 8:33Speaker 1: to any other artist, but for us in our band,
- 8:37Speaker 1: we're always gonna try and elevate via of Mice and
- 8:40Speaker 1: Men's sound and progress the of Mice and Men's sound,
- 8:44Speaker 1: never in a place that feels forced or different, because
- 8:48Speaker 1: we're we're all very much inspired by heavy music, we're
- 8:52Speaker 1: all inspired by emotional music. We love the music that
- 8:56Speaker 1: we write, and so we're always going to try and
- 8:59Speaker 1: find new ways to express ourselves that feels first and
- 9:03Speaker 1: foremost fresh to us, where in turn, then maybe the
- 9:08Speaker 1: audience will be like, oh wow, I've never heard them
- 9:10Speaker 1: do this before, but it still sounds like them because
- 9:13Speaker 1: it is still us. And I don't know some bands,
- 9:16Speaker 1: I can't speak for them, but some bands kind of
- 9:20Speaker 1: jump the shark a little bit too much, and we
- 9:23Speaker 1: just kind of play to our strengths. You know, we're
- 9:25Speaker 1: not reinventing the wheel here. We're just kind of trying
- 9:28Speaker 1: to reinvent ourselves and write music that excites us. And
- 9:34Speaker 1: what excites us two years ago doesn't necessarily excite us
- 9:39Speaker 1: still now. You know, maybe a certain version of it will,
- 9:43Speaker 1: but there's going to be an elevated experience to it
- 9:46Speaker 1: and some nuances that we're going to try and change
- 9:50Speaker 1: and create in a different way with every new album.
- 9:54Speaker 1: And I think that's the way that we're able to
- 9:57Speaker 1: make it to album nine and still we love what
- 10:00Speaker 1: we do and still love the collaborative process, and still
- 10:04Speaker 1: create music that feels meaningful because it is meaningful because
- 10:09Speaker 1: it is our experiences and we aren't just writing about
- 10:12Speaker 1: the same thing over and over and over again or
- 10:15Speaker 1: utilizing the same I guess ideas behind that or tunings
- 10:21Speaker 1: or I don't know, all kinds of shit. You know,
- 10:23Speaker 1: Like as musicians, we're always we always kind of want
- 10:26Speaker 1: to try new stuff, but we never want to stray
- 10:29Speaker 1: too far from the path that we have kind of
- 10:33Speaker 1: like forged for ourselves. And we can only really thank
- 10:37Speaker 1: the fans and the audience for allowing us the opportunity
- 10:40Speaker 1: into their lives and letting our music be the soundtrack
- 10:43Speaker 1: to their lives, not just background music to cleaning their
- 10:47Speaker 1: flats with, or you know, putting on in the background
- 10:50Speaker 1: at work at you know, a retail job or something
- 10:53Speaker 1: like that.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Oh no, it's much more than that music.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Thank you so much, appreciate that.
- 10:58Speaker 3: And you guys have been going for a while now,
- 11:01Speaker 3: so definitely, you guys have found that formula that works
- 11:04Speaker 3: and it resonates with fans. Like you were saying, it's yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 3: definitely more than just background music.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Ah, thank you so much.
- 11:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I mean, well, music plays such an important role in
- 11:14Speaker 1: our lives that there's absolutely no way that we could
- 11:18Speaker 1: do any different, you know, And as fans first and
- 11:23Speaker 1: foremost that then became musicians that are continuing on a
- 11:28Speaker 1: productive musical journey, I think that it only makes sense
- 11:34Speaker 1: that we are always trying to like elevate our performances
- 11:38Speaker 1: and bring new material to the table and new exciting
- 11:43Speaker 1: things that excite us first and foremost. Yeah, and we've
- 11:46Speaker 1: all collaborated with each other for so long that we
- 11:49Speaker 1: all kind of speak the same language, and we speak
- 11:52Speaker 1: the same language as our fans too, because it's really
- 11:54Speaker 1: connecting with them and we don't have to try too
- 11:58Speaker 1: hard to do that. We just we just kind of
- 12:01Speaker 1: do what we do and we try and better ourselves
- 12:03Speaker 1: with every album. And it seems like the fans are
- 12:06Speaker 1: really connecting with that and it's an incredible feeling and
- 12:10Speaker 1: we thank them so much.
- 12:12Speaker 2: That's so lovely.
- 12:13Speaker 3: And I've really got to talk about how you guys
- 12:15Speaker 3: are coming back to Australia and we're so excited.
- 12:18Speaker 2: How does it feel for you to be coming back here?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Oh, we love it out there. You know. As soon
- 12:23Speaker 1: as we found out, we were like, yes, let's do it,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and they were like, but this is the schedule you're
- 12:30Speaker 1: going to have, and we're like, if we can hit
- 12:32Speaker 1: all those cities and that's how we can do it,
- 12:35Speaker 1: then we're doing it. So it's going to be some
- 12:37Speaker 1: hectic travel for us, but we love everyone out there
- 12:40Speaker 1: and our audience in Australia so much that we'll do
- 12:43Speaker 1: whatever it takes, and we're bringing our friends in Crystal Lake.
- 12:48Speaker 1: We've been trying to book shows with them for quite
- 12:50Speaker 1: some time now, so for our schedules to meet up
- 12:54Speaker 1: and us to kind of meet in the middle in
- 12:55Speaker 1: Australia is going to be pretty perfect and the perfect story,
- 13:00Speaker 1: if you will. Yeah, And it's going to be a
- 13:02Speaker 1: night of kick ass music and awesome memories, and we'll
- 13:06Speaker 1: be bringing music from our whole discography, all of the
- 13:09Speaker 1: fans' favorites, some of our favorites, and some of the
- 13:13Speaker 1: new songs too.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Yes, Yes, can't wait.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Speaking of Crystal Lake as well, they blend so many genres.
- 13:21Speaker 3: Has that inspired or challenged you in any way for
- 13:24Speaker 3: this tour.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Not specifically to them, but we do love that about
- 13:31Speaker 1: their sound and we do think it's important, which is
- 13:34Speaker 1: why we've been trying to tour with them for such
- 13:36Speaker 1: a long time. Is they bring their own flavor of
- 13:41Speaker 1: metal and alternative music that is different from ours but
- 13:47Speaker 1: similar enough to where we know that both their fans
- 13:52Speaker 1: and our fans are going to have an incredible night
- 13:55Speaker 1: of music. You know, and to kind of have something
- 13:58Speaker 1: where we never want to tour with like and granted
- 14:01Speaker 1: there probably isn't a band that sounds like just like us,
- 14:04Speaker 1: you know, every band has their own sound, but to
- 14:07Speaker 1: bring together all these kind of sonic qualities that both
- 14:12Speaker 1: of our bands have, we think it really puts together
- 14:16Speaker 1: an eclectic and exciting night of music. And that's what
- 14:19Speaker 1: it's all about, is getting people out having a night
- 14:23Speaker 1: of awesome entertainment and coming out and just kind of
- 14:26Speaker 1: like losing it for a night, you know, and having
- 14:29Speaker 1: a good time. And they're the perfect band to bring
- 14:32Speaker 1: alongside us, and we're so happy that we were able
- 14:35Speaker 1: to make that work. For sure.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, I can only imagine it's just going to
- 14:39Speaker 3: be so epic. And you guys have evolved massively over
- 14:43Speaker 3: the years. How would you describe where the band is
- 14:45Speaker 3: a creatively now as opposed to back then?
- 14:52Speaker 1: I mean, much like people are. Can anybody truly say
- 14:57Speaker 1: that they are the same person that they were sixteen
- 14:59Speaker 1: year years ago than they are today? You know, when
- 15:02Speaker 1: we started the band, we were in a much different
- 15:04Speaker 1: headspace from being musicians to people, you know, and I
- 15:08Speaker 1: think as we mature as humans, I think that changes
- 15:17Speaker 1: the way the music is too, and how we create
- 15:19Speaker 1: and all of the experiences that we've had in life,
- 15:23Speaker 1: not only just as people, but with different record producers
- 15:27Speaker 1: and different labels and different you know, like teams behind
- 15:31Speaker 1: us and all the things we've learned. We try and
- 15:35Speaker 1: better those things and elevate how we understand and then
- 15:42Speaker 1: put out music that still continues to excite us. And
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean it it is hard to I guess, quantify that,
- 15:52Speaker 1: you know, or even like, you know, like take a
- 15:56Speaker 1: piece of take something somebody wrote, you know, like in
- 16:00Speaker 1: sixteen years ago to something they wrote today. It's going
- 16:03Speaker 1: to be completely different. And I think it's kind of
- 16:06Speaker 1: all about retaining some of the some of like the
- 16:10Speaker 1: passion and you know, the love for music that that
- 16:15Speaker 1: has always been there. But I think the experiences in
- 16:19Speaker 1: our lives really dictate where we are today, and that
- 16:23Speaker 1: is very specific to each one of our journeys in
- 16:26Speaker 1: this band and then coming together and bringing all those
- 16:30Speaker 1: experiences and influences and inspirations to our music. And I
- 16:36Speaker 1: think even two years from now, when we probably put
- 16:38Speaker 1: out the next album, it's going to be all new
- 16:41Speaker 1: experiences and a whole new elevation of sound and sonic
- 16:46Speaker 1: textures and landscapes and stuff that are going to feel
- 16:49Speaker 1: new and fresh to us then that are only going
- 16:52Speaker 1: to be reflective of that time in our life, you know.
- 16:55Speaker 1: So I don't know, it's kind of a weird, a
- 16:59Speaker 1: weird thing to reflect on. But I guess if we
- 17:03Speaker 1: just keep doing how we've been doing it, which is
- 17:05Speaker 1: making honest music about our experiences, we're never going to
- 17:10Speaker 1: run out of material because life happens at one hundred
- 17:14Speaker 1: miles an hour all the time, so we're always kind
- 17:17Speaker 1: of trying to and especially now that we've been self
- 17:19Speaker 1: producing our albums, that stream of consciousness creativity rings more
- 17:28Speaker 1: true now than it used to when it would be
- 17:30Speaker 1: like life happens, life happens. We're not making an album.
- 17:33Speaker 1: We're not making an album. We're not making an album. Okay,
- 17:35Speaker 1: now is the time to make an album. We're always
- 17:37Speaker 1: making the new album because we're always writing music now,
- 17:41Speaker 1: and we're always being taking those inspirations and writing them
- 17:47Speaker 1: down now, and when it comes time to put together
- 17:50Speaker 1: the next album, we're kind of digging into our journals
- 17:54Speaker 1: or our folders of music and finding and creating things
- 17:58Speaker 1: at that time that are going to be reflective of
- 18:02Speaker 1: where we are at that point in our life and
- 18:05Speaker 1: as opposed to maybe having something that feels a little
- 18:08Speaker 1: more forced of like, Okay, now it's time to write, well,
- 18:11Speaker 1: what do we feel like? You know, it's like, yeah, well,
- 18:15Speaker 1: we've been feeling certain feelings and maybe let's find a
- 18:19Speaker 1: way to express that in a way that is exciting
- 18:23Speaker 1: to us. And I think we're always going to do that,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and we've had quite a bit of practice doing it ourselves,
- 18:30Speaker 1: and not that we won't work with producers in the future,
- 18:32Speaker 1: because I think there's definitely a benefit to that. But
- 18:35Speaker 1: we're having a good time now collaborating with each other
- 18:38Speaker 1: and being our own producer and using each other as
- 18:42Speaker 1: producers to create the music that everyone's hearing, and it
- 18:47Speaker 1: seems to be resonating with the audience really well. And
- 18:50Speaker 1: we can't wait for everyone to hear the rest of
- 18:53Speaker 1: the album when it comes out next week, and I
- 18:56Speaker 1: think people are going to be really pleasantly surprised to
- 18:58Speaker 1: hear what we're able to come up with all ourselves,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know. I think we have such a huge sense
- 19:04Speaker 1: of pride in that and appreciation for all of the
- 19:09Speaker 1: coaches producers that have, you know, kind of steered us
- 19:15Speaker 1: along the way to help find those things within ourselves
- 19:19Speaker 1: to then each other who kind of we challenge each
- 19:22Speaker 1: other and try to make the best possible music that
- 19:27Speaker 1: we can at that point in time. And I always
- 19:30Speaker 1: say like, whenever we're about to release an album, like
- 19:34Speaker 1: I was just listening to the album yesterday, I'm like, man,
- 19:37Speaker 1: how the hell are we going to top this? But
- 19:39Speaker 1: I said that about the last album and somehow we
- 19:42Speaker 1: did it, and so I'm gonna stop questioning it. I'm
- 19:45Speaker 1: just gonna lead. I'm just gonna leave it up to
- 19:47Speaker 1: the universe. Yeah, and know that that life is going
- 19:50Speaker 1: to bring forth experiences that are going to influence the
- 19:55Speaker 1: next album and the next body of work. And I'm
- 19:58Speaker 1: not really going to worry about how it's going to happen.
- 20:00Speaker 1: I just know that it will. And I think that
- 20:03Speaker 1: that's a good analogy in a way that we can
- 20:06Speaker 1: all look at. Life is live in the present, experience
- 20:09Speaker 1: everything now for what it is, and when it comes
- 20:12Speaker 1: time to express that and explain that and be creative,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you're gonna find a way you have to, you know.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely, it sounds like you were just loving that
- 20:22Speaker 3: self producing era that you guys are in. Do you
- 20:26Speaker 3: think that will continue for albums in the future too,
- 20:29Speaker 3: that they'll be self produced.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't see why not. It feels
- 20:34Speaker 1: like we've really kind of gained our footing. We tried
- 20:37Speaker 1: it for the first album on Echo. There was stuff
- 20:39Speaker 1: that we liked about that, there was stuff that we
- 20:41Speaker 1: felt like we could do better, and much like then
- 20:46Speaker 1: to try and elevate that, we did Tether and that one.
- 20:50Speaker 1: There was still stuff that I felt like we needed
- 20:52Speaker 1: to work on there, and we hit a lot of stuff,
- 20:58Speaker 1: a lot of like Sonic New Sonic boundaries on that stuff.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And with this album, I feel like Another Miracle really
- 21:07Speaker 1: kind of blends those two together and creates something all
- 21:11Speaker 1: new and fresh. And I think that it's gonna be
- 21:13Speaker 1: an incredible starting point for the next body of work,
- 21:17Speaker 1: whenever that's gonna come. I mean, songs are already being
- 21:20Speaker 1: written right now. I don't know if they'll make the album,
- 21:23Speaker 1: but that's just kind of how it goes with us.
- 21:25Speaker 1: We're always writing, We're always trying to find inspiration when
- 21:29Speaker 1: it comes about, and yeah, I guess we'll just time
- 21:34Speaker 1: will tell what the next body of work will be,
- 21:36Speaker 1: but we're really excited to get to share this one
- 21:38Speaker 1: with everybody and feel like we've really hit the nail
- 21:42Speaker 1: on the head with what we're trying to what we're
- 21:47Speaker 1: trying to share with the audience, you know, And there's
- 21:50Speaker 1: just so much there. It's such a journey. There's so
- 21:53Speaker 1: much yin to the yang. There's so much like melody,
- 21:56Speaker 1: but then there's like crushing heaviness and new tunings on
- 21:59Speaker 1: guitar and more musical drumming and like vocals that are
- 22:04Speaker 1: you know, Aaron does like an eighteen second scream on
- 22:07Speaker 1: one of the songs, and he's doing like multi layered
- 22:10Speaker 1: screams and multi layered melodies and just everything. Like it's
- 22:15Speaker 1: all about constant elevation, and I think we're always going
- 22:20Speaker 1: to try and achieve something like that with every new
- 22:24Speaker 1: song we write, and in turn that will help shape
- 22:28Speaker 1: whatever the album ends up becoming when those songs ultimately
- 22:32Speaker 1: become an album.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I really.
- 22:35Speaker 3: That's something I really like about you guys too, is
- 22:37Speaker 3: that you guys aren't afraid of boundaries. You push yourselves
- 22:41Speaker 3: all individually as well, Like you can definitely hear it
- 22:44Speaker 3: on your songs outside the box. And I think that's
- 22:46Speaker 3: what keeps you guys, has kept you guys going after
- 22:50Speaker 3: all these years, to be honest and look, even if
- 22:52Speaker 3: you feel after an album that something hasn't quite worked,
- 22:55Speaker 3: you guys seem to improve on that with every consequential album. Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Well it's not one and done for us, you know.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And I appreciate you saying that too, Thank you so much.
- 23:05Speaker 1: But really it's like if we didn't hit the nail
- 23:07Speaker 1: on the head, you know, fuck it, there's we'll do
- 23:10Speaker 1: another song, you know. It's not like, oh, we're done
- 23:12Speaker 1: writing songs. Like we're going to write music forever, whether
- 23:16Speaker 1: it's in a Mice and Men or however, that's just
- 23:18Speaker 1: how we are. We all write music, and that's where
- 23:21Speaker 1: musicians and fans of music first and foremost. And I
- 23:24Speaker 1: think as fans of music, we get inspired by that
- 23:27Speaker 1: to want to continue to create and the journey is
- 23:32Speaker 1: what inspires us. And so I feel like we're always
- 23:35Speaker 1: going to be doing that. And whether we find a
- 23:39Speaker 1: collaborative effort with a producer or we continue to self produce,
- 23:43Speaker 1: I think only time will tell with that, and we're
- 23:46Speaker 1: not opposed to working with producers. Yeah, but it seems
- 23:52Speaker 1: like us working together, just as the unit of four
- 23:55Speaker 1: of us has been working really well. And I think
- 23:58Speaker 1: that that's something that we take a lot of pride
- 24:01Speaker 1: in and we hope that the fans know that when
- 24:04Speaker 1: they hear these songs from A Mice and Men, it's us,
- 24:07Speaker 1: you know, in a time where where a lot of
- 24:12Speaker 1: people need, need, or want to rely on others to
- 24:16Speaker 1: help them write their music, that's totally cool. Collaboration of
- 24:20Speaker 1: music is awesome, but we're really having a good time
- 24:22Speaker 1: collaborating with each other, and that's enough for us right now,
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know, and hopefully that that connects with the fans,
- 24:30Speaker 1: and it seems like it has been so far. So
- 24:33Speaker 1: it's an exciting time and we're happy to get to
- 24:35Speaker 1: share this music with our fans, and we're really excited
- 24:39Speaker 1: to get to come out there and play some of
- 24:41Speaker 1: this new music for everybody out there in may Man.
- 24:44Speaker 1: It's a long ways away, though it sucks. I feel
- 24:46Speaker 1: like it's like I wish it was in like February.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I know me too, but look well, I
- 24:52Speaker 3: mean I feel this way. I feel like things are
- 24:55Speaker 3: moving so quickly, like I can't believe it's the November already.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Like that is crazy, I know, seriously.
- 25:01Speaker 2: Yeah, so it'll be here before we know it. I reckon.
- 25:04Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, look at the time. Okay, last few questions.
- 25:09Speaker 3: What sorry, if of Mice and Men had to cover
- 25:12Speaker 3: one totally unexpected song on this tour, what would it be?
- 25:20Speaker 1: Unexpected song? Dude? I don't know. Um, I don't know. Unexpected?
- 25:31Speaker 2: Yeah, a song?
- 25:32Speaker 3: Maybe you really like that you have always wanted to
- 25:35Speaker 3: play live that's not your own?
- 25:37Speaker 1: Oh uh, Nirvana Lithium would be a cool one, yes,
- 25:43Speaker 1: which I mean Nirvana is pretty low hanging fruit. Everyone
- 25:46Speaker 1: loves Nirvana. But or lithium or heart shaped box, yes,
- 25:52Speaker 1: one of those. I don't know, putting a putting a metal.
- 25:55Speaker 1: We like putting one of Mason men edge on our covers,
- 26:00Speaker 1: so in the past if you've heard them. We don't
- 26:02Speaker 1: really like covering songs just straight up, you know what
- 26:06Speaker 1: I mean, Like we want to put our own spin
- 26:07Speaker 1: on it. We've done a couple and yeah, I think.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I mean, while Nirvana are legendary, I think that that
- 26:15Speaker 1: could be something cool. I don't know, maybe there's something there.
- 26:19Speaker 1: We'll see.
- 26:20Speaker 3: Well you can credit me for that. And no, I
- 26:25Speaker 3: also think with those songs though as well. They're not
- 26:27Speaker 3: like their most popular songs, so you can get away
- 26:30Speaker 3: we've covering.
- 26:30Speaker 2: It's not so much slow hanging fruit in my opinion.
- 26:33Speaker 1: But okay, cool, Well, that's good to know. I appreciate that.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:37Speaker 3: And last question, when you think about of Mice and
- 26:40Speaker 3: Men's legacy, what do you hope fans remember.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Most community and just that conversation that we've had for
- 26:55Speaker 1: such a long time with each other, from the band
- 26:58Speaker 1: to the audience, and from the audience to the band.
- 27:01Speaker 1: You know, the only way that we've been able to
- 27:04Speaker 1: last nine albums and sixteen years is because of our
- 27:08Speaker 1: audience and because of our fans that continue to listen
- 27:11Speaker 1: to us, to listen to us, that continue to buy
- 27:15Speaker 1: our albums and support the band and come out to
- 27:18Speaker 1: the shows and experience this and bring their friends and
- 27:22Speaker 1: to tell people and to have their friends experiencing it
- 27:24Speaker 1: for the very first time. And some people have been
- 27:27Speaker 1: coming to see us since our very first time out
- 27:31Speaker 1: in Australia in twenty twelve or thirteen, I think was
- 27:35Speaker 1: one of the first times we went out there, and
- 27:39Speaker 1: it's just incredible and we owe all of this to them,
- 27:41Speaker 1: to our fans, and I think that what people can
- 27:46Speaker 1: expect from a Mice and Men is that appreciation and
- 27:50Speaker 1: having that community that when you come to an A
- 27:52Speaker 1: Mice and Men show, you're there with family. The people
- 27:56Speaker 1: that you're in the audience with are people just like yourself,
- 28:00Speaker 1: that that have those same feelings as you, that connect
- 28:03Speaker 1: with music that same way. And knowing that those people
- 28:06Speaker 1: us that are on that stage are exactly like the
- 28:09Speaker 1: people in the audience because we are fans first and foremost.
- 28:13Speaker 1: We've just practiced our instruments for a very very long
- 28:16Speaker 1: time and and it's still challenging for us, you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: but it is something that we've built unintentionally a community
- 28:27Speaker 1: of fans and appreciate appreciate appreciators of music that I
- 28:33Speaker 1: think is something that is an incredible byproduct of this
- 28:38Speaker 1: alternative style of music. You know, it's not for everybody,
- 28:41Speaker 1: it's not. It's becoming more mainstream now, but it's because
- 28:45Speaker 1: people want something deeper, you know, they want something more nuanced.
- 28:50Speaker 1: They want to feel seen by music. You know. They
- 28:55Speaker 1: don't just want to mask all the bullshit that happens
- 28:59Speaker 1: that we experience as humans. They want to face it
- 29:02Speaker 1: head on. And I think there's something beautiful about the
- 29:05Speaker 1: community that this music has created and continues to create.
- 29:10Speaker 1: And I hope that our fans know that they are
- 29:14Speaker 1: part of something much larger as are we, you know,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and it's really because of all of them that we
- 29:20Speaker 1: still get to be here and do that. And so
- 29:23Speaker 1: we just we live with endless gratitude towards our fans
- 29:27Speaker 1: and our audience, and it's something that we, you know,
- 29:29Speaker 1: that we always want to pay forward and show our
- 29:33Speaker 1: appreciation and live a life that expresses that love and
- 29:38Speaker 1: appreciation to them, because without them, it's not it's not
- 29:42Speaker 1: sustainable to do this, you know, for us to be
- 29:44Speaker 1: able to have a career doing what we love, to
- 29:48Speaker 1: sell these records, to be able to make this music,
- 29:50Speaker 1: to be able to do what we do, it's all
- 29:52Speaker 1: because of them. And we can't thank them enough. And
- 29:55Speaker 1: we hope that they know how much we appreciate them
- 29:58Speaker 1: and will continue to do this for ourselves and for
- 30:01Speaker 1: them every chance that we get moving forward, and know
- 30:04Speaker 1: that it's one hundred percent us is this is our everything,
- 30:08Speaker 1: and we appreciate all of them so much.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Oh, we feel it, and we love you guys just
- 30:13Speaker 3: as much. And I hope you feel that too when
- 30:15Speaker 3: you're up there.
- 30:17Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 30:18Speaker 3: That's also the analogy you used of family like in
- 30:21Speaker 3: community is really great.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I have to say, from.
- 30:23Speaker 3: A fans perspective, being in the crowd at one of
- 30:27Speaker 3: your shows, I feel.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Safe and there have been so much Yeah.
- 30:31Speaker 3: There's been some bands that I've been to and not
- 30:33Speaker 3: felt that way, and you know, it doesn't feel like a.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Community, but definitely, yeah, well thank you.
- 30:38Speaker 1: You know, that's what we took from our favorite bands,
- 30:41Speaker 1: and we could only hope that we don't have to
- 30:45Speaker 1: go too far out of our way to achieve that,
- 30:47Speaker 1: because it comes from the music, and it comes from
- 30:50Speaker 1: the intent, and our intent is pure and it's honest
- 30:53Speaker 1: and it's not bullshit. It's it's you know, we're just
- 30:56Speaker 1: sharing our experiences as humans in hopes that everyone else
- 31:02Speaker 1: can feel that level of scene and safety that we
- 31:05Speaker 1: feel from our audience, you know, and from our favorite bands.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And we just hope that that people can take that
- 31:12Speaker 1: away from our live shows. So when we come out
- 31:14Speaker 1: there and may we just we hope everyone comes out.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Get your tickets early. You know it really from the
- 31:21Speaker 1: buzz this has been creating, it really feels like this
- 31:23Speaker 1: is going to be a special time out there, so
- 31:25Speaker 1: get your tickets early before the shows sell out. Yes,
- 31:28Speaker 1: and we're going to be bringing songs from our whole discography,
- 31:32Speaker 1: all your favorites, some of our favorites, some of the
- 31:35Speaker 1: new music, and it's going to be just an electric
- 31:38Speaker 1: night of awesome music and celebration of community and of
- 31:45Speaker 1: family and of this community that we've been building for
- 31:49Speaker 1: such a long time and that this alternative music can build.
- 31:53Speaker 1: And we just feel so fortunate to be a part
- 31:56Speaker 1: of it, and we cannot wait to get out there.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Oh, we're so so excited. A Valentino, thank you so
- 32:02Speaker 2: much for your time today.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Christ of course, thank you.
- 32:04Speaker 2: It's been a pleasure. Thank you.
- 32:06Speaker 1: Hey me too. It's it's not enough time these thirty
- 32:09Speaker 1: minute like little windows, but I appreciate your time definitely
- 32:13Speaker 1: and looking forward to seeing you guys out of the show.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yes, all right, thank you so much. Have a good
- 32:18Speaker 2: day alright.
- 32:19Speaker 1: YouTube take care
