And Lucas, I have to say, I've been thinking about something since our last episode at the post office. Lucas: Oh? What's that? Luna: Well, I was sending a letter to a friend, and I had to write the date, and I realized I don't actually know the seasons in French. I mean, I know the months now, but what about spring, summer, autumn, winter? Lucas: Ah, great catch. And this is a perfect topic for today. I'm curious, Lucas, how do we say them? Lucas: So we have four seasons, just like in English. Let's start with spring. In French, it's le printemps. Luna: Le printemps. That sounds lovely. Le printemps. Lucas: Exactly. Now summer is l'été. Luna: L'été. I love summer. L'été. Lucas: Then autumn, which you might also call fall, is l'automne. Luna: L'automne. That's pretty. L'automne. Lucas: And finally, winter is l'hiver. Luna: L'hiver. Okay, l'hiver. L'hiver is winter. Got it. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them all together. Le printemps, l'été, l'automne, l'hiver. Luna: Le printemps, l'été, l'automne, l'hiver. That's a nice rhythm. Le printemps, l'été, l'automne, l'hiver. Lucas: Now, if you want to ask someone about their favorite season, you can say, 'Quelle est ta saison préférée?' Luna: Quelle est ta saison préférée? That's a mouthful. Let me try: Quelle est ta saison préférée? Lucas: That was perfect. And to answer, you might say, 'Ma saison préférée est l'été.' So, for example, I might say, 'Ma saison préférée est l'été.' Luna: Okay, so if I want to say my favorite season is spring, I'd say, 'Ma saison préférée est le printemps.' Lucas: Exactly. Now let's do a quick little scene. Imagine we're in a café, and I ask you, 'Quelle est ta saison préférée?' Luna: Oh, easy. Ma saison préférée est l'automne. Lucas: Nice. And why do you like autumn? Luna: Because of the colors, and the cooler weather. And I get to use all those weather phrases we learned. Lucas: Right. And in autumn, it can be cool, but not too cold. It's a nice balance. Luna: Yeah. Okay, so let's review the seasons one more time. Le printemps, l'été, l'automne, l'hiver. Lucas: Perfect. And remember, to ask someone their favorite, you say, 'Quelle est ta saison préférée?' Luna: Quelle est ta saison préférée? I'm going to use that with my friends. They'll be impressed.
