  [upbeat rock music] Hey, everybody.
• 0:16
Welcome to Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 154. Yeah, we're so close. I got the red, red light, so that means- Keep up... we're recording, so that's a good thing. It doesn't mean stop?
• 0:29
Yeah, I don't know why that, I still don't get that. [bell ringing] What are you d- are you doing top of the hill already? Oh my God. Apparently. We're starting the show at the top of the hill?
• 0:35
Well- I guess we got to the top of the hill early today- Yeah, it's close to town... right now. So- Yeah, it's easier... so, so here we are. Oh, we need introductions and then hit top of the- Yeah...
• 0:43
since we have a guest... Mr. Jumping the Gun over there. [laughs] Hey, well, I just heard a doo, doo-doo, doo-doo. I'm just playing with it. We're here in the, um- [laughs]... podcast [laughs] What?
• 0:54
That's what I tell my wife. Yeah. We're here in the pod- [laughs] This is the podcast mke.org studio, yet to be finished podcast mke.org studio. [laughs] In progress, in progress.
• 1:05
We got, uh, per usual, and loudly talking today, not, not JK to my right, but, uh, but Mr. T-Burger over there across from me- Yo... and then splitting the uprights today, Andrew Zahn. Yo.
• 1:19
Hasn't been on the show for a little bit. It was some, sometime last fall or something. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, Andrew's been on the show before. Yeah. A font of knowledge.
• 1:27
He may become useful in the crypto minute later in the show. Oh. [laughs] Useful. Well, we- Super liberal use of that term... we've also had IT minute, and, and, uh, we can talk about- Someday...
• 1:37
that a little later, too, so. You know, cycling is all about, you know- IT... Luddite stuff except for e-bikes, I guess. Yeah. Which we'll talk about later [laughs] in the show. Oh, Jesus Christ.
• 1:48
Oh, we'll talk about later. [laughs] What are we gonna talk about now? What are we gonna talk about? Oh, top of the hill. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So, yeah. That's why I hit the goddamn- All right, so-...
• 1:55
fucking button there... we're going top of the hill. That was my button. And that's the intro's out of the way. [laughs] So, uh, yeah, this, this, today's beer is from Amorphic, which is like- Delightful...
• 2:06
right north of our building. We could throw rocks at it. Right. And hit it. But the cool thing is, since we have- They could roll them down... since we have to move the shop again- [laughs]...
• 2:13
we're gonna move, like, 500 feet even closer- Closer, yeah... to Amorphic. Aha, aha, aha. So yes, there will be another shop move in our not too distant future. I have an idea.
• 2:22
Does it involve reading the label on the can? No. Oh. Growler pulley. Ooh, I like that idea. Ooh. I was thinking we could just run a line- Aha... underneath the parking lot. Also a good idea- Right, yeah...
• 2:32
but it would probably get warm by then. No. Uh- So I, I've always loved the, um, the bank air tubes. Yes. Oh, those are great. Yeah. Fire over, like, crawlers. No, just fire 16 ouncers right through that thing.
• 2:47
Right that tube. It'll hit you in the head when it comes out, and you're- Cool... you're gonna be out in a few minutes anyway. Yeah. You might as well get knocked out. Yeah. I like these ideas.
• 2:53
A shot is a shot is a shot. [laughs] Wow, I like these ideas. We have to do something like that. Right? We gotta talk to Ron. By the way, I talked to Ron when I picked up, this is the Amorphic Cosmic Logic. Yes.
• 3:04
Which if you will- Ron, Ron, Ron... we should get a picture. We gotta get a picture 'cause the artwork on here is done by our buddy Drew, who is actually- Nice... also in the same building. Yes.
• 3:11
Which is, he's got this rabbit, graffiti rabbit. These are all over our building now. Tony's taking a picture. I'm just gonna stop talking while he takes a picture [laughs] for some reason. Yeah, yeah. I don't- Yeah.
• 3:22
To, to, to- Yeah. Don't, yeah, don't multitask too much. Right, right. It's gonna break your fucking head, man. So this is a, this is a- A really- You twisted my melon, man... it's a really good IPA...
• 3:29
you twisted my melon, man. Which- Hold on. He's gotta focus. He gotta turn down the music... oh, yeah. You twisted my melon, man. Okay, I gotta turn that down.
• 3:35
[laughs] Yeah, this is a, this is a- Now I gotta turn this down [laughs]... definitely an IPA. I haven't turned the music down. I'm looking for an address.
• 3:42
[laughs] Can't, I can't believe it went off the rails this early in the show. No kidding. Yep. Oh, I can. [laughs] So- Welcome to my... let's talk about this beer a little bit according- Yeah...
• 3:51
according to them, and then we'll talk about it according to us. This beer is a spin on the popular Fluffy Logic easy-drinking hazy IPA, which- Also delicious... by the way, was delicious, and they didn't have it, so.
• 4:02
Yeah. Uh, Jamie, our buddy who is now gonna be the manager of this building, former bartender at BBC, was tending bar over there, and I'm like, "Can you recommend a beer for me, please?"
• 4:12
[laughs] And he said, "Get that Cosmic Logic." And it- Get it. So this, I don't know what this is, but it utilizes a mash hopping technique coupled with thiol-boosting yeast. I don't know what that is. Thiolate.
• 4:23
For even more- It is... fruity flavors in the mix, sweet malt- Thiolate gumbo... and ever popular Citra mosaic El Dorado combo persists in this. I think it kicks ass. Yeah. Yeah. It, it's very tasty. Okay.
• 4:35
And I don't know about thiolate gumbo in there. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that this brewery's owned by an engineer. Is he? Yeah. [laughs] I know that because I, I also research.
• 4:43
But yes, this sounds like something- So, so, well, I, I did talk to him about being on the show- Wow. You're like the worst bar owner... because he's also a, he's also a very avid cyclist. He has- A roadie. Yeah.
• 4:51
He rides 8,000- [laughs]... some of miles a year. Wow. A lot of riding. A roadie. [laughs] That's a lot of riding, in his basement on a trainer. Hm. No. That, no, that said... Well, I mean, in the winter.
• 5:02
That said, we, uh, I did suggest we just go over there with our gear and do a show- Right, of course... right in the, 'cause they have a new event space over there, too, which is connected to the brewery now.
• 5:10
Is it on the second floor? Negatory, dumb buddy. No, right on the- It's right next door, right in the downstairs. Uh-huh, uh-huh. Oh, yeah, yeah. I knew that. I knew that. They may- No, you didn't...
• 5:18
they may make a, another space upstairs. No, don't we have a spin class there? You've, you've gotta see- Yeah. [laughs]... you've gotta see that second floor office space. I don't think Steve has come up yet.
• 5:25
Oh, I've been up there- Oh, that's gorgeous... many times. That's gorgeous. That's where we had the Fluffy Logic ad infinitidum num, num, num last time. Ad in- Ad infinitum? Num, num, zum, zum.
• 5:35
We drank a lot of them- Is that the word?... up there is what I'm saying. Ad infinitum is the- Fairness... phrase you're looking for, but- I-... that's fine... I'm not gonna say sesquicentennial anymore.
• 5:44
We don't have to. Sesquicentennial. We don't have to say that anymore. I'm so happy to know how to say it. Oh, yeah. So I don't know. Uh, I, did we talk about our crypto transaction last week?
• 5:56
Tony and I did a- We did after the show, so no, we, we, we discussed that with Ray. Did it work? Yeah, yeah. You guys were like- It worked... hovering over your goddamn phones- I am-...
• 6:04
going like, "It's not taking," and that was great. Well, I know that, I know that Tony got into- Jess, it was terribly uncomfortable for me... Cardano earlier than I did, so this- [laughs]...
• 6:13
this didn't cost him as much. Well, yeah. But in the week in, since we did that deal- Cardano's gone up like, I don't know, 20% or something. Yeah.
• 6:22
It's gone pretty good, so the amount that we agreed upon is now more than it was back then. It was my very first crypto transaction- Mine too... as a business. Yeah. And my first crypto purchase, period.
• 6:33
So there's, what is the, uh... There's one, there's a new thing, not Bitly, but it's a Bit-something that's a, uh, a, like AMC uses it if you wanna pay. Now you can pay at AMC with Shiba. Shiba.
• 6:43
I guess it's the Crypto Minute. I was gonna get into this later. Yeah. Yeah. You can put- Well, we're now in the Crypto Minute. Right.
• 6:48
You could get, uh, you can, you can pay for your movie tickets with Doge or Shiba or blah, blah, blah. Yeah. And they use whatever this app is, which is one of the ways to transfer money.
• 6:58
But as a business, we can also use it to take money in. Interesting. I don't know what That's a concept. We may all be, we may be only crypto. I don't know if we're ever gonna deal with cash again.
• 7:06
I think we are all our own- You know what?... NFT Actually, I'm sorry. At least three out of the four people in this room. That's great. I mean, come on. Wait, wait. Aren't we all our own NFT?
• 7:14
That's an absolutely great idea. I mean- 'Cause no one else owns me. We can all own the crypto They can take pictures of me. Yeah, I'm just saying. Even, you know, even if they come in and say, "Here you go.
• 7:21
I got $1,000 in my hand right now." Two conversations going on at once right now. Right. Yeah, well. Yeah, this is existential shit, man. You know? [laughs] I think that's a great... We're gonna talk after show.
• 7:30
Well, after I get back, after the- Well, o- okay, so this is something that's really interesting. Uh, Steam, Gabe No- uh, Newell, Gabe, Gaben. Whatever. Whatever. Yeah, whatever. Steam the game guys? Yeah, yeah.
• 7:43
Um, they did take crypto for a while, and then they stopped. And they were like, uh, uh, two things were happening. One, uh, too many scammers.
• 7:52
But the other problem that they were having is that with the fluctuation of crypto- Mm-hmm... right, uh, a game that was $10 today,
• 8:02
$100 the next day, 'cause they're, they're, they're pinning it to the cryptocurrency, not to, like, fiat or- US dollar, yeah. Yeah, but we're not supposed to even be dealing- Like, I love-...
• 8:11
with actual real money anymore... my civilization, but I don't love civilization that goddamn much, man. [laughs] I don't know. There, there's a model there that's gonna work for some people, I'm sure.
• 8:20
It's just if you try to correlate it to actual real money all the time, you're gonna lose in your brain. Right. Yeah. It's, it's more knowing where it's headed, I think, or- Yeah, I mean, you could hold on- Well-...
• 8:31
to that 500 Cardano for 20 years, and suddenly that might cost me like 40 grand. [laughs] It's, I'm gonna have to transfer- Sure. It'll be like three-... to my kids 'cause I'll be dead in 20 years, but-...
• 8:39
Cardanos in a Card- yep. My thoughts too. [laughs] Three Cardanos and a Cardano. $50 million pizza. Right. You know? Uh- Exactly.
• 8:46
I, as lazy, like, you know, you have to think about everything like, uh, uh, points in time. Right. And, and that makes sense and, and that's well and good, but, like, you, like, you can't... I find for, like, an online
• 9:00
sales shop, whatever, you can't really set something like that. It, it, crypto works really well in, in sort of that human-to-human. You still have to interact with someone and, and be like, "Well, this is what I value
• 9:12
this at." All right. So to get, to get back- It's definitely a talk to- Because this is ostensibly a show about cycling- Yeah... we're gonna call our, our, we're gonna call our guest now.
• 9:22
[laughs] We should, we could just do a show about crypto and then, you know, we don't have to talk about- Give me a second. Back up. We could talk about cycling on the crypto show, though. Yeah.
• 9:29
No, I'm, I'm just coughing 'cause I guess I have the- 'Cause he did the weed hit... different, different hill. All right. [laughs] So I'm gonna make a call now, and we're gonna, we're gonna get our show guest on. Beep.
• 9:38
Let's see if this works. Beep. Boop beep boop boop. So when I did this- Okay, wait. Just let- You, you wait. Just wait. Just- Just fucking wait. Are you calling him on the blockchain? That's- Yeah. Hello. Hey. How are...
• 9:52
We called, uh, we called Dave Sobowski in through the magic of, uh, airwaves. Uh, by cracky, he's on the phone. Hi, Dave. Hey. Why, why are we doing it this way now? Well, because a- Change is good...
• 10:03
I w- I wanted to find out if it actually sounds and/or works better than going through the other app.
• 10:08
And the only reason to really have the other app is because we w- would, would like to have more than one guest on sometimes. But- Well-...
• 10:16
if it's just me talking to you or us talking to you, you know, all of us can, we're going over the one air wave as four people, and you're coming back to us as, you know, you.
• 10:26
But, um, it, it does have, I think, better, it sounds better basically. Oh, okay. All right. Gotcha. You're more front and center and forward than normal. Yes. Well, I don't know.
• 10:38
I don't know if that's what people want, but, uh, you're in charge. [laughs] That's what they get. This is what you want. Uh, it, it also- This is what you get. It also means that- This is what you want.
• 10:45
This is what you get... certain, you know, if we had to, you know, I don't know, whatever. We can be picky and choosy. Plus that costs money to do that, so...
• 10:53
And since we're making well over zero dollars per show right at this time- [laughs]... I, I think, you know, we may wanna watch how much money we spend. I don't know. Whatever. It's just dollars. Who cares?
• 11:03
We were talking crypto before, so. Ah, okay. Um, anyway, uh, so you and I talked earlier this morning. I was, uh, I, I need an update on your, on your health. That's the stuff... How's your, uh-
• 11:15
Uh, yeah, I haven't got one yet, so I went- I think that was the track I got... I went in for an X-ray, but I, I haven't, haven't got results yet.
• 11:23
I, I should have insisted on, like, letting them show me what, what it was. Okay. Um, 'cause they're digital now, right? I mean, nobody's using, uh, you know, film plates anymore.
• 11:35
It, it comes up with a digital image, I'm sure. So I, I don't know why they didn't just show me.
• 11:40
But, you know, the radi- X-ray tech just does the, takes this picture, and then they said a radiologist would review it and call me, but I don't know. My shoulder's feeling- It's called, it's called lawyers, Dave...
• 11:51
a little better. I mean, I still have my fingers crossed that it's not broken. Maybe it was just, you know, a mild separation or something like that, and some weird bump from a, a ligament inflamed or something.
• 12:03
But I- Torn bicep actually mimics, uh, a separated shoulder feeling on that same arm. Let's hope that's not- Yeah... what Dave has 'cause those sound- No, no, I just- Yeah, I'd rather-...
• 12:12
I, no, I just, I just know things that I've had... torn bicep is worse than- Both sound terrible... I think maybe worse than, you know. Yeah, for sure. Well, I mean, just, yeah.
• 12:19
So but this was not a cycling-oriented incident? No, it was skiing. I, and yeah, I was actually skiing, um, on, uh- June, blanky wanky...
• 12:27
the Berkey Trail right by the start- And I had gone out and skied, and I had come back. I was probably 50 feet from my truck going about two miles an hour when, uh, my left ski just twisted, got caught in some rut and
• 12:42
twisted sideways quickly, and then, um, went over my, my, uh, pole and I sort of just tipped over at the ankle and landed on...
• 12:50
And my hands are locked into my pole handles with the grips on them, you know, so I just sort of like, I couldn't stop myself even though I wasn't going very fast.
• 12:57
And, and, uh, um, the, the deck up there is, is man-made snow that they've been making for a long time, plus the, all the snow.
• 13:05
It's super compacted and hard, so, so it's, you know, kinda like falling on concrete without- Oh, shit... without stopping you, so. Ouch. But I have my fingers crossed it's not, you know, we'll see.
• 13:16
I just wanna be safe and- Yeah, for sure... get an X-ray. Well, that kinda leads into one of the reasons we wanted to talk to you today, is that the conditions up there, 'cause we have the Fat- Yeah.
• 13:27
[laughs] We have the Fat Bike Birke coming up here in, uh- Exactly. [laughs]... in, like a week from tomorrow. Yeah.
• 13:32
Uh, so we wanted to see what you're thinking about, uh, what the potential conditions are and, you know, just how, how fat biking in northern Wisconsin in that Seeley-Cable- Uh... Hayward area is these days.
• 13:42
Yeah, conditions are, are really great right now. They're probably a- as about close to perfect as, as you can get. Um,
• 13:50
and, and the Birke Trail, which is a little different than the, the, you know, the single track, 'cause for the Fat Bike Birke you're riding on, like the skate trail one way and the, the classic trail the other way from, like the start line to Double O and back, right?
• 14:05
Right. Um, so, so that's on the Birke Trail, not on, you know, the, any of the CAMBA groomed trails.
• 14:12
Uh, and the Birke Trail, I was at, I was the, the licensed server for the, um, beer, the Earthrider Beer Tent, um, at the, uh, finish for the Birke in Hayward last weekend for Friday and Saturday.
• 14:27
So I, I talked to a lot of skiers as they were finishing, and they said the course was, last week was great and fast and good snow throughout.
• 14:37
It, it got warm last weekend, like it's starting to during the day, you know, lower 30s, and they said some of the hills would get a little slushy on the sunny side, um, later in the day.
• 14:48
But I think that's probably the same conditions riders will be able to expect. It's, it's well snow-covered from Double O north. There's a very good base.
• 15:00
We're gonna get a little bit, um, this weekend, a mixture of rain and snow it looks like, but temps are gonna cool off and get cold every night until race weekend.
• 15:12
So even if we get a little bit of melting, I think it is maybe only will make the course feel faster. I think we're, uh, from a, from a, uh... It's hard to tell, but it, it feels like we're edging in on, on crust season.
• 15:29
Um- Yeah, yeah, for sure... you know, with, with- Mm-hmm... temps in, temps in the mid-30s- Oh... and then cold at night, so that's, if you have- Crunchy...
• 15:35
sunny days, that lets, you know, that, that top half-inch melt and, and then freeze up hard and, and you can ride those crust, um, routes throughout the forest. That's a blast.
• 15:46
But so that bodes pretty well for the, the conditions for the, the race. There's tons of good snow on it still. Um, so- Do you, do you think it's gonna be advisable to run studs? I don't think it'll be necessary at all.
• 15:59
I mean, if you've got 'em- No pressure... I certainly wouldn't take, I wouldn't take 'em off. I'd leave 'em on. [laughs] Um, but, uh, but I don't think it's gonna be necessary. All right. 'Cause it'll warm up.
• 16:09
I, I didn't look at... I think I looked at the forecast for that weekend. It's a ways out, obviously. But yeah, it looks like it's gonna be, you know, temperatures in the, in the 20s next weekend, right? So,
• 16:23
uh, during the day. So- With a 20%... I mean, it could be a little icy. Yeah, you know, it could be if that's the case, if it, if it only, if we get a little bit of,
• 16:33
you know, that, that rain-snow mix like we're supposed to get this weekend, and, uh, the, the course, and it just stays in the 20s then after that, the course could become a little icy.
• 16:45
If you want to check in again briefly, like, you know, uh, next week, but that'll be your- Yeah, we're g- Many people are... They're, they're either committed or they're not by Friday, so.
• 16:56
Right, and they're already up, they're probably up- Yeah. [laughs]... already up there, 'cause it'll be- Right... it'll be the Friday the day before the race, but, which I think- Right...
• 17:03
you can pre-ride the course the day before, right? Sure. Yeah. So you can dial in. And, and they do start, what time? It starts at 8:00 in the morning or somewhere in there? So it's, uh, it's gonna be cold.
• 17:12
Um, I think it's... Uh, no, I think, let's see. Uh, does it start that early? Yeah, you're right. The, the long race starts at 8:00 AM. Yeah. Yeah. So that's early. So it's gonna, it's already gonna be cold, so. Yeah.
• 17:23
Yeah. So that's- Oh, cold as 18... yeah, so, so a- a- given that, you know, I, it, it wouldn't hurt to have studded tires, I don't think. Yes. Um, 'cause there, there could be some icy sections.
• 17:34
We're just trying to drum up sales for 45NRTH. Everybody, all these- [laughs]... thousand people need studded tires up there. You g- if you go up there without 'em, you're just gonna crash and burn, baby.
• 17:42
You know, I don't even take mine off anymore. I just, I just leave my- [laughs] I got Dillinger 5s on, you know. Yeah, me too. Those are nice. Um, they're relative, they're relatively lightweight.
• 17:52
I just leave 'em on all winter long. Um- Yeah, you just, yeah, just don't try to skid out in front of a bunch of cops during the- [laughs] D- when, when you're on pavement. [laughs] On pavement.
• 18:01
Yeah, well- At the- That's true. I, I don't have-... you know, on little things that do that... I don't have any pavement up here to ride- Yeah... to have my bike on. You're, you're lucky that way.
• 18:08
I'd find my way to nonsense like that. So yeah, Ton- Tony's running some studded tires, but he's not f- he's not happy with those unless you're on snow. Oh, you were so slow last week. They still slip.
• 18:17
But they, he has the Vee Tire- You were so slow... something somethings, but they're really, really slow. Sam, Sam D, if you're, or, uh- Oh...
• 18:23
Sam McMahon, if you're hearing this, I, he- I don't feel like my Dillingers are slow.
• 18:27
I, I- No, I don't either, but I can tell you that those Vee tires, you're running at least two gears easier just to kinda feel like you're not- Ah... working any harder than if you're on- And it still sinks.
• 18:36
They still sink... and you're going way slower than everybody else on Dillinger 5s. You know what they need? You know what they really need? A Bafang mid-drive To, to, to not suck is... Yeah, yeah.
• 18:44
You would probably put it on, on your pedal assist level two to feel like- Well, like, uh-... a normal guy feels on Diliger fives. Right. Yeah, for sure. Missing the point of a fat bike then. [laughs] Yeah.
• 18:53
I don't think they have an e-bike category. [laughs] Oh, shit. I, I- As well they shouldn't... well, Andrew would be- Yet... Andrew would be up there on the e-bike- Sh-... category. Shish. Right on, Dave.
• 19:04
[laughs] Um, so, uh, anything else before we continue with our debacle of a show here, and then, uh, check in with you next week?
• 19:11
You know, I'd, I'd encourage, for folks that are, you know, thinking about coming up and stuff, I definitely would encourage them to stick around and ride some of the, the single track while they're up here.
• 19:20
And if it is crust season, to take advantage of that, because that's a blast to ride through the woods. Um, or you can just ride wherever you want.
• 19:28
But also, um, for people that haven't looked at it, the, uh, you know, uh, Jason from Trail Genius made an interactive course map of the, of the Fat Bike Birkie route. Nice.
• 19:41
So, you know, that's, that's the thing where they, like, you know, GoPro it up and they... You can watch the video as you go along the course.
• 19:48
And the Birkie have got that on, on the Fat Bike Birkie website, a link to the, um- [laughs]... Trail Genius map up. That would be cool. So it's, yeah, so it's kinda neat.
• 19:57
If, if, if you haven't done the race before, if any of the listeners haven't done it, it gives you a ver- real good feel for what, what you're gonna see. So I'd suggest people take a look at that. I als- I also...
• 20:07
  Very good. That sounds cool.
• 20:08
I'd also wanna, uh, s- suggest that people, if they're gonna go up there, not next weekend for the Birkie, but any other time, check out Seely Dave's Airbnb, because that's where I'll be staying for the Fat Bike Birkie.
• 20:20
[laughs] Thank you very- Yeah, yeah... thank you very much for that, Dave, 'cause that's gonna be- You bet. I'm, uh- It is just such an awesome spot... I, I don't know where you guys are at.
• 20:27
I, I, I'm sort of at the top of the hill, though. Um- Yeah, dude. Oh, yeah. Oh, we- I know... yeah, we, we- I've gotten scolded before, Dave. Jesus H. Christ... well, we did...
• 20:34
Yeah, somehow we did the top of the hill at the beginning of the show today. Sh- But that's okay. Let's, let's, uh, ring the bell again. Well, we're, we're- Well, there are-... riding downhill...
• 20:41
and also in, in- [laughs]... the Seeley-Hayward area, there are a lot of hills. Yeah, so maybe it's another hill. So you, you're gonna top another one. We got another hill then.
• 20:47
[laughs] So let's, uh, let's- Let's see what Seely Dave's having... let's, let's see what Seely Dave's having. So I am still in my Earthrider mode from last weekend. They're...
• 20:54
And they'll be, I believe they're the sponsor of all Birkie events. Um, that's a Superior Brewing, uh, company, Earthrider, and they make pretty tasty beer.
• 21:04
I'm drinking, in honor of the, uh, the Birkie, the Håkon Honey Bock. Prince Håkon. [laughs] Folks, we know the, the whole Birkie story. Um, the, you know, that's what it's all...
• 21:15
The Birchleggers were these warriors on wooden skis who took Prince Håkon and protected him by skiing him across the country in Norway to get him to some other, you know, place of safety.
• 21:28
Um, and so the Bir- Birka has people dress up in these old, you know, outfits with a, a baby and, and ski the course. Um- Baby... the Birchleggers.
• 21:38
Uh, s- and, uh, Earthrider, in honor of the race, made a honey bock called Håkon, and it's super good. Um, I'm not a huge bock drinker, but this with the honey is a really easy drinking bock. It's 7% ABV. Ooh.
• 21:55
Ooh, there we go. Um, and it's o- it's... So it's, yeah, it's got a little kick to it. A breakfast beer. But it doesn't, but it doesn't feel that way, and it's only IBU 22. So it's, it's not- Oh...
• 22:05
you know, it's really easy drinking. Yeah. Um- I really like it... wasn't a, wasn't a bock beer normally, like, when in the big breweries, kinda like the bottom of the barrel beer?
• 22:13
Yeah, I, it, this is kind of bock season. Um- Right. For sure... bocks are coming out right now. So, so it's an appropriate, timely beer to drink, I guess. Um, I like it a lot.
• 22:22
Um, the other beer that I like of theirs quite a bit is their hazy IPA called Cloud Top. That's, that's a really good, um, hazy. Right on. That's good. Um, what do you guys got going on?
• 22:34
Uh, we, we have, well, we, we have the, uh, right across the, uh, driveway from us here is Amorphic, and they have this Cosmic Logic, which is a... It's an IPA. It's actually very fruity. It's very nice. Yeah.
• 22:46
It's really tasty. Um, and, and one of the guys in the building here did the artwork for the label. And, uh, we're talking- Cool... we were talking earlier about how we're gonna get the beer from the brewery- Oh...
• 22:56
'cause we're moving the shop again, Dave. I don't know if you knew this. Um- No. [laughs]... like 500, 500 feet north in the building. So we're gonna- Can't catch us.
• 23:03
[laughs] Well, you could probably throw a can from the brewery to our new front door.
• 23:08
But Andrew brought up this thing about the, uh, the, the tubes that you go to at the bank, and we're thinking maybe we can dig one of those in under the ground and just have them- Oh, too bad...
• 23:16
pop o- pop over cans from the brewery. Yeah, I think it goes over the top. You got cans come over? Well, it's, yeah, maybe. It could maybe go through the air. No, no, no. I, uh, I- Yeah. I don't know. But it was-...
• 23:22
I think there's got to be- Yeah. It would be like-... it's gotta go under the- Yeah... under... a '90s procedural s- Couldn't you string some of those-... show.
• 23:30
Like a- Couldn't you just string some of those, like, uh, uh, it's...
• 23:31
We're also getting towards maple syruping season, so I'm thinking about that mentally, about those blue tubes that they string from tree to tree for the, the sap gathering. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Instead, like, a tap.
• 23:41
Good call. Run one of those over with a tapper on the end. Yeah, I'm just thinking how we can get it there without, you know- You're making a plot hole on that bike thing... walking all the way over there.
• 23:48
[laughs] All the way o- or riding a bike. Yeah. Mission Impossible show. Ride a bike 500... Well, not even. Yeah. It's gonna be, like, four, 300... It's not even a football field over to that place. No, it's not.
• 23:56
It's not. It's really close. [laughs] The, the rubber network. You just get on your rubber and, and get on over. Yeah. All right. All right, Dave. Well, um, thank you very much. All right, guys.
• 24:03
And let's just touch base real quick next week and- Okay... just get an update on what the expected conditions are- Will do. Will do... 'cause it's gonna be like the next day. All right, man. Thank you very much.
• 24:12
Sounds good. Uh, I hope you heal well. Okay, guys. Bye. [laughs] Yeah. You too. Later, skater. Thanks. All right. Hey, everybody. Bye, boys. Yep, thank you. Hey, every- uh, Seely Dave on the horn there.
• 24:21
You know what's cool? It sounds way better than running through the call in studio web- Oh, cool... web interface, doesn't it? Yeah, it does. It did. Didn't you think he sounded more- It does sound way better...
• 24:29
yeah, I don't know. The only problem with this is how do we get, you know, multiple- It's using all your damn ya, ya, ya. [laughs] What happened to JK today? He's all goofy. Did he smoke the, what did he call that?
• 24:42
I had a lot of marijuana. Wacky to- Wacky Tobacky? I had like three marijuanas. I had the wacky tobaccy I had three marijuanas, I'm sorry. So is this time, this time you're just piping it straight in.
• 24:52
I had three marijuanas. That was right off the phone, yeah. Instead of normally we go through- Dual channel... an online service that people can call into our- Mm-hmm... 717-727-2453. That spells bike.
• 25:02
That's 717-727-BIKE, so it's a really cool number. And we can also have multiple callers at the same time. But between just the latency of the internet and latency of phones and the lag and this and that- Mm-hmm...
• 25:15
the one thing that I noticed today- God damn... talking to Dave is there was none of that uh, ah, uh, uh. Right, right. Where he starts talking and it's almo- it's conversational. Even more real time. Right.
• 25:25
Yeah, even if I'm talking over Tony talking over you. But we have to admit- And it's only, we're only talking like maybe a half a s- not- Mm-hmm... milliseconds or something. Right.
• 25:31
It's not very much, but it's enough where, did he finish his thought and I can start talking or blah, blah, blah. But it could also be that it's- Sure... we're usually talking to Big Sexy, so. [laughs] Yeah.
• 25:43
[laughs] There could just be this pause because it's Big Sexy. I like how Big Sexy talks Big Sexy when he says Big Sexy. He says it like- Exactly...
• 25:51
he's like, who's that Tommy Two Talker or what was the, uh, there's like a couple guys, like repeating guys that are in movies, and it's like, uh- Oh, yeah... "I went down to the store, to the store."
• 26:00
No, "I gotta go get the paper, get the paper." Get the paper, right, yeah. [laughs] What's the guy's name? I don't know. Johnny Two Times. John Da- Two Times 'cause he says- Johnny Two Times... everything two times...
• 26:07
"I gotta go get the paper, get the paper." I gotta, I gotta- [laughs] I have no idea what this is, but okay. Before we had Trent. He's a mob guy.
• 26:15
Also, uh, before we end the show, since Andrew's here and we really haven't talked to Andrew at all much except- Move along... yes, come back next week... just talking, uh- Talk among ourselves... let, let, uh- Tony...
• 26:25
allow us to- You, you're qui- Yes, yes. Small... cannot t- t- talk anymore 'cause I have turned you down. [laughs] No, I just wanted to know how your, uh, your, your e-fat bike is working- Yes, by all means...
• 26:35
for you all winter long. Oh, dude, it's been great. Uh, last Monday, like I, I've only been riding over about 20 degrees, but uh, I've really been in, like I, I rode up to Bayshore to get my hair cut,
• 26:49
came back down like- All of it?... over my lunch break. 10 mile round trip. Why not? All over a lunch break. Yeah. Why not all the hairs? Haulin' booty. I, I, dude, I wasn't even working that hard.
• 27:00
It was like, I, I stay- Yeah... on level one always. Uh, the higher levels are great. Uh, I have, uh, bar hopped a couple of times and maybe that throttle just real fun. Push the button. [laughs] I pushed the button.
• 27:12
Why did I push the button? Oh, I'm sorry. So when you, when you use the throttle, do you still pedal too just to give yourself the illusion that you're putting plenty into it?
• 27:20
Yeah, no, I get, I like, I get in racer and, and like, you know- Yeah, yeah, yeah. 'Cause usually you, when, when, when I'm just throttling only, I'm just trying to go and, and have a good time.
• 27:29
The, the, the e-assist though, I think I, I appreciate more because it's natural, right? Yeah, for sure. Makes me feel, it, it takes the suck out of pushing a 75 pound bike ar- uh, around.
• 27:41
Like it feels just like a normal light bike. Right. Yeah, I figured, I, 'cause I've had a couple of them now. This is the Surface 604 that Andrew has.
• 27:49
And if you put it in pedal assist one, it's basically making up for the weight of the bike. Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah. And you feel pretty much like you're riding a normal fat bike without sucky V tire tires on it.
• 27:59
Maybe decent- Dead tires... you know, Dillinger 4s or something. Yeah. But once you get into the higher levels, you're, you're, you're getting an assist.
• 28:06
And I, I, the first time I had the, the black one, which was the version before the one you have with- Yeah... lower wattage motor, lo- blah, blah, blah, blah. I rode it down to the Bay View and we did a ride.
• 28:18
And w- so the ride, I didn't even use it 'cause it was slow enough. Yeah. Yeah. We got all schnockered. It was like 1:30 in the morning and it was- Yeah...
• 28:25
a 20 mile an hour wind coming out of the north, and I was like- Asshole. I was like, oh- Yes... God, it's like a nine mile ride home or something. Yes.
• 28:33
And I'm like just jamming on it, and I'm, got it in five, and I'm like rawr, rawr, rawr. [laughs] 'Cause it's a fat bike with the big tires.
• 28:39
And there's a punk kid on a, on a fixie, and he's trying to pass me, but he can't quite do it. And he's like, "What the fuck's going on with this?" And then he, he finally does actually dust me, but- Sure...
• 28:49
you know, it, but it was still, I was feeling like, yeah. He must have been clipping. He was moving. And, but that wind was so, that sucked.
• 28:55
Dude, no, that wind- So this brings up the one thing that you brought up with the haircut is that it's, it, that would've taken me way over an hour. Yeah.
• 29:04
Could've been an hour and a half 'cause I probably would've stopped somewhere for [laughs] With the wind, yeah. But instead of that, it cut that time literally in half. Oh, yeah, less than. Yeah, so.
• 29:13
I made it faster than I would've gotten in my car to get on the freeway to, to get to church. Yeah, yeah, true, true. Which then brings this whole story to- Uh, uh, Oakley Trail, man. Like you can- Oakley Trail.
• 29:24
Go ahead. It, before you purchased this bike, I was riding it. Mm-hmm. Oh. Because I did once in a while. And I may have depleted the battery a little bit, and
• 29:37
our friend Sam, the asshole who didn't call in again tonight 'cause he's somewhere in Tex-ass- Mm... uh, had had a little bit too much to drink that day. Oh, yes. Yes. And I recommended- Somebody drove him home...
• 29:46
he ride it home, and he got halfway home- Home it, too... and the battery died.
• 29:50
[laughs] He then had to ride it without a battery, and it never dawned on me, and it's one thing I think they need to think about is when the battery died, so did all the lights. So suddenly- Mm. Yeah...
• 30:00
he was riding a bike home at night, inebriated, no lights, and he's going to a- Riding Jedi... northern suburb. Yeah. Good thing he's a white dude. Wow. Riding Jedi. Going a little higher already.
• 30:14
I knew I'd end up there. I did end up swapping out the handlebars for the, uh, Surly Alt bars though. Oh, yeah, okay. That's a good call. Yeah.
• 30:20
Okay, here's something though you should think about, 'cause I know you wanna lighten it up a little bit. I got some of the Milhouse bars in, which are the Whiskey's carbon fiber but BMX bar looking thing. Okay.
• 30:31
Yeah, yeah. They are so kickass. So if you wanna lighten it up just that couple two, three grams- You have-... you might wanna consider those. [laughs] You have carbon fiber BMX- Yep... handlebars? Yep. Yeah, yeah.
• 30:41
Well, they're actually more for like a c- Oh, okay... a clunker or a, even a mountain bike. They're not really- Okay... BMX bars, but- Yeah, I'm with you... they do, they do have that look.
• 30:48
Do they look like the, uh, the dirt bikes- Yeah... where they got- Yeah... they got a dip- Yeah... and then they've got a single- Yep... thinner bar on the- Yeah. Exactly.
• 30:54
And they're a little more swept- Oh, dude, yeah... a little more swept back and a little more swept up. Yeah. Uh, pretty sexy. But they're carbon fiber. Yes. They don't have any weight, they don't have any weight limit.
• 31:02
They're guaranteed forever. Forever. And they have just that little bit of flex in them that you love on a carbon fiber bar. They guarantee them forever because the first time you crash them, you're dead anyway.
• 31:09
[laughs] You're never gonna claim it. Wow, product liability guy. Hey, what up, you? All right, we have a new, we have a new, a new show section called- Out loud voice... Lawyers with Tony. Shut up, Tony.
• 31:20
T- t- let's do the Law with Tony thingy thingy. You know what? Fortunately, we don't have to 'cause by cracky, we did it again. Uh-oh. Huh? Did we hit the finish line? Oh, yeah, we hit the finish line.
• 31:29
We're, we're, we're way across it now. We're- Time for wet leg. Oh, Tony's gonna go to a concert. Oh, yeah. How do I do this thing? All right, everybody, next week. Thank you very much. Bye-bye.
• 31:41
