- 0:00When we see things from the viewpoint of our ego
- 0:03personality, with our limited lifespan and our insecurities
- 0:09based on the limitations of our knowledge and power, we
- 0:13frequently experience bouts of anxiety, or at least uncertainty
- 0:17about the reality of what we are doing, about the truth of the
- 0:21spiritual path, and about our ability to face all the
- 0:26obstacles and overcome them to obtain the objective we have set
- 0:30before ourselves. The magnitude of the task, the
- 0:34attempt to change human nature through the development of a
- 0:37new, higher formation of consciousness, is overwhelming
- 0:42to the individual, who can feel very small when confronted with
- 0:46the vast expanse of time and space and the forces that are at
- 0:51work to shape the universal manifestation, including all of
- 0:55the complexity of life on our planet.
- 1:00At some point, just about everyone taking up the spiritual
- 1:03path will suffer from a crisis of confidence, particularly if
- 1:09they feel like everything is dark and the experiences which
- 1:13had fueled the initial enthusiasm have retreated and
- 1:17one is faced with the phenomenon called the Dark Night of the
- 1:21Soul. To become serene and confident
- 1:25in the spiritual path, we can either try to retreat into some
- 1:30rigid dogma and refuse to let in other perceptions, thoughts, or
- 1:35ideas, which is the way in which many, including religious
- 1:39zealots, try to reduce the complexity and uncertainty of
- 1:44existence. Or else we need to gain not just
- 1:49an intellectual understanding of the reality of our universal
- 1:52existence, but of faith-based on our deeper psychic sense, the
- 1:58knowledge of the soul, or based on experiential confirmation of
- 2:03our intellectual viewpoint. The path of zealotry has serious
- 2:08limitations, as it tends to block out much of the reality
- 2:13with an attempt to shape inconvenient facts or new forms
- 2:17of knowledge into preconceived formulations.
- 2:23Frequently this approach becomes harsh and narrow, judgmental and
- 2:27concerned more with adherence to a set form of understanding than
- 2:32to an openness that embraces the wideness and complexity of
- 2:37existence. Once an individual has the
- 2:41experience of a shift of consciousness to what we may
- 2:44call the Divine standpoint, even briefly, it becomes possible for
- 2:50that person to recognize, in a very real sense, that true
- 2:54confidence does not reside in the ego or the ego personality,
- 2:59but in the Divine reality existing independent of the ego
- 3:05that transcends it both in time and space, and which has its own
- 3:10significance, purpose and direction in the manifestation.
- 3:15As one begins to identify with this wider view, it becomes
- 3:19easier to maintain confidence in spite of the setbacks, obstacles
- 3:25or difficulties that are faced by the human being during his
- 3:29short lifetime. What does any human failing
- 3:33signify when looked at over the course of billions of years or
- 3:38even just millennia, over the span of millions of galaxies in
- 3:42the universe, or over the time frames that are needed just to
- 3:47achieve a next stage of evolution on our planet?
- 3:51To the extent the seeker can shift his identification to the
- 3:55divine standpoint, he can go forward with an absolute
- 3:59confidence that the spiritual destiny will be fulfilled in its
- 4:04own way, in its own time, and with its own methods, the Mother
- 4:11observes. Quote The best way of meeting
- 4:15difficulties is a quiet and calm confidence in the grace.
- 4:19Keep faith and confidence and remain cheerful.
- 4:24Be confident. You will become what you have to
- 4:27be and achieve what you have to do. 1 must have entire
- 4:32confidence in the victory of the Divine, and this general victory
- 4:37will include in itself the personal victory of all who have
- 4:41remained faithful and confident. With confidence we shall
- 4:46advance. With certitude we shall wait and
