- 3:15Speaker 1: such a cluster right now. I don't know if you
- 3:17Speaker 1: saw that Nectrus has decided to say this screw it.
- 3:21Speaker 1: We're just closing down for the summer, but man, it
- 3:25Speaker 1: is a mess in Burlington. This morning, I have the
- 3:31Speaker 1: lovely Brittany with me on the air at this I
- 3:34Speaker 1: am so happy to have and have just met you
- 3:37Speaker 1: just like minutes ago. Yep, this is so cool, my god. Welcome,
- 3:41Speaker 1: welcome to air it out, welcome to our family here,
- 3:45Speaker 1: and I'm so glad to meet you, to chat with
- 3:49Speaker 1: you a little bit. And I've only chatted with you
- 3:52Speaker 1: like like a week, yeah, like a week and probably
- 3:57Speaker 1: for like a total of less than fifteen men.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, and then we recently found out that you know
- 4:03Speaker 2: some of my family.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Recently just found out like recently within like a minute
- 4:08Speaker 1: before we went on the air. I'm so happy to
- 4:13Speaker 1: meet you. You are a very interesting woman.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Oh that's an understatement.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Wow? Is that an understatement? And you reached out to
- 4:23Speaker 1: me and you've introduced me to who you are and
- 4:28Speaker 1: what you're about and why you reached out to me.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And the bottom line is is that you and your
- 4:37Speaker 1: cohort Becca have decided to start up a podcast, So
- 4:43Speaker 1: of course that spikes my curiosity and I'm like, wait
- 4:46Speaker 1: a minute, who the hell are Who the hell are you? Guys?
- 4:48Speaker 1: Where are you from? What's going on? Are you hearing Vermont?
- 4:51Speaker 1: And you're down near in Brandon? Right?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Yes, I'm in Brandon and she is in Hardwick?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Okay, Oh she's in Hardwick? Yeah? Really? So you have
- 5:03Speaker 1: roots right here in Barry Central, Vermont, yep went to
- 5:08Speaker 1: high school where? So?
- 5:10Speaker 2: I started high school at Spalding, but then I graduated
- 5:13Speaker 2: in Montpillier High School.
- 5:15Speaker 1: All right, how long ago?
- 5:17Speaker 2: Twenty twelve?
- 5:18Speaker 1: Okay, your your friend Becca? What's her deal? Did she
- 5:22Speaker 1: go to school with you?
- 5:24Speaker 2: No? Actually she went to you thirty two. We actually
- 5:27Speaker 2: became friends.
- 5:29Speaker 1: You were friends with someone who went to you thirty two?
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, we had the same friend group, but never
- 5:38Speaker 2: like our paths never crossed until I was pregnant with
- 5:43Speaker 2: my second son. So about eight years ago, okay, was
- 5:47Speaker 2: when we became friends through my foster family. That's how
- 5:50Speaker 2: I met her. Your foster family, yes, one of many
- 5:54Speaker 2: you were fostered. Yes, I went into the foster system
- 5:58Speaker 2: when I was twelve.
- 5:59Speaker 1: When you were twelve, healthy er sould my god, do
- 6:02Speaker 1: we have a lot to talk about? Jesus.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Yeah, it was crazy, right, that's for sure.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Wow, So you so you and Becca started saying whose
- 6:12Speaker 1: idea was it to start up a damn podcast? Whose
- 6:15Speaker 1: brilliant idea?
- 6:16Speaker 2: I feel like it was mine? Yeah, but I'm sure
- 6:19Speaker 2: she also had some part in it too. Yeah. We
- 6:23Speaker 2: are always the light of the party wherever we go.
- 6:25Speaker 2: We're loud, obnoxious, we say what's on our mind, no filter,
- 6:30Speaker 2: super inappropriate, beautiful, and we cope with hard things with comedy.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So that's what we want to right, So that's what
- 6:40Speaker 2: we want to give to our community. We are also
- 6:45Speaker 2: an active recovery ourselves.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Both of you, yes, okay.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Yep, And we want to spread the word that you're
- 6:53Speaker 2: not alone, you know, and it doesn't have to be
- 6:57Speaker 2: dark and gloomy and sad and depressing.
- 7:01Speaker 1: There's a whole hell of a lot of doom scrolling
- 7:05Speaker 1: it these days, isn't there?
- 7:06Speaker 2: Man?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, my god, Yeah, it's so easy to find.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah. I had to stop with Facebook for a while,
- 7:14Speaker 2: but then we started the podcast, so I obviously, you know,
- 7:17Speaker 2: have to get the word out somehow. Sure, now I'm
- 7:21Speaker 2: back on and it's yeah, doom scrolling.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It's it's it's a ride, though, isn't it. It's it's
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's a ride. Yeah, And it's it's constant. I mean
- 7:31Speaker 1: you can kind of you can get away from it,
- 7:35Speaker 1: but not for very long. And no, yeah, I know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: believe me. I know.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's crazy because I like, I enjoyed TikTok. Yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 2: And it's like a potato chip. You cannot just have one.
- 7:48Speaker 2: You got to have the whole damn bag.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Of course, of course, so so, so you and Becca
- 7:56Speaker 1: are both in recovery, yes, And how long have each
- 8:01Speaker 1: of you? Are you guys on the kind of the
- 8:02Speaker 1: same page? Are you about the same timeline here?
- 8:06Speaker 2: I think it's different. I don't want to speak her
- 8:10Speaker 2: story because well, that's I'm probably going to suck it up.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Let's be honest.
- 8:14Speaker 1: No, that's okay.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But I've been sober for four fourish years off hard
- 8:23Speaker 2: substances and about two years alcohol.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Okay, Courtney, this young lady here with us has a
- 8:33Speaker 1: remarkable story, and she is taking her life experiences some really,
- 8:42Speaker 1: let's be honest, bad decisions and trying to really turn
- 8:48Speaker 1: things around. It's one thing to be sober. But it's
- 8:52Speaker 1: a whole other thing to take that sobriety and turn
- 8:55Speaker 1: it into a very public, clearly displayed Ah what am
- 9:07Speaker 1: I trying to say? Uh, you're very vulnerable by by
- 9:11Speaker 1: taking your message and putting it out there transparently for
- 9:17Speaker 1: for all of us too to see and to hear.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And that's that takes some mads. A lot of people
- 9:28Speaker 1: don't do that. They get if they get, if they
- 9:32Speaker 1: get to the point of sobriety and and they've they've
- 9:36Speaker 1: conquered that, they just want to get on with it
- 9:40Speaker 1: and and quietly live life and maybe start over maybe.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I don't know. But you guys are like hanging it
- 9:48Speaker 1: right there on the on the on the blinds and saying, hey,
- 9:51Speaker 1: here we are, this is what we've done, and we're
- 9:55Speaker 1: we want to help, we want to help you, but
- 9:57Speaker 1: we also want to laugh about it too. Yeah. That's
- 10:01Speaker 1: interesting to me because this is a not a laughable subject. Right.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Sure, you're both very serious.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but you guys are a bunch of goofballs. Oh god, yeah,
- 10:16Speaker 1: So you have to it's all my You have to
- 10:21Speaker 1: bring that into allow that to be part of your
- 10:24Speaker 1: natural personality when you ye, when you did you put
- 10:28Speaker 1: out your message? Have to So you guys decided you're
- 10:33Speaker 1: going to start this podcast called the chupp To Podcast. Yes, okay,
- 10:37Speaker 1: audio only for now.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yes, we're dipping our toes in the podcasting world. We
- 10:46Speaker 2: want to you know, obviously do video, do lives too.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell I'm doing and I'm
- 10:54Speaker 2: trying to navigate it on a laptop. And my wonder
- 11:00Speaker 2: full husband got me a starter kit for a podcast. Yeah, wow,
- 11:06Speaker 2: for my anniversary present. Thanks, Henny, I see you.
- 11:10Speaker 1: It's so cool. That's so cool. Yeah, he's Joseph. Yep,
- 11:14Speaker 1: he's locked in right here. All right. That's so awesome though,
- 11:17Speaker 1: I mean, come on, that's so great.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, And we just grabbed the bull by the horn
- 11:24Speaker 2: and we jumped on and we just did it. And
- 11:27Speaker 2: the first one sounds terrible. It was like it was
- 11:31Speaker 2: a learning curve, that's for sure. But you got to
- 11:33Speaker 2: start somewhere, of course. So we figured just put it
- 11:36Speaker 2: out there and we'll see how it goes.
- 11:37Speaker 1: You guys had me laughing within the first minute. But
- 11:42Speaker 1: you know, you just said to me a little while ago,
- 11:46Speaker 1: You're like, yeah, we don't edit.
- 11:47Speaker 2: Anything, No, we don't. We push record and go straight
- 11:51Speaker 2: through and hope for the best. We like the we
- 11:55Speaker 2: like it to be.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Raw, yes, real raw, relevant related those those are the
- 12:01Speaker 1: four urs that I try to hang my hat on
- 12:04Speaker 1: and and you know, give give as a as a
- 12:09Speaker 1: defining foundation of aired out. But yeah, man, it's and
- 12:14Speaker 1: it's like, that's the way to do it. And you know,
- 12:18Speaker 1: ver honors, I say Ver Honors, but really anybody. They
- 12:24Speaker 1: people tend to appreciate that because there's a lot of
- 12:28Speaker 1: highly edited, finely polished, yeah post produced content out there everywhere.
- 12:38Speaker 1: But if you guys are doing like what I'm doing,
- 12:40Speaker 1: and you're just letting, letting the mics go hot and
- 12:42Speaker 1: let fly, there's something to be said about that.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, we don't. We don't want to look perfect because
- 12:48Speaker 2: well we're not. We're very far from perfect. Yeah, so
- 12:54Speaker 2: you know, take it or leave it.
- 12:56Speaker 1: I love it. Yeah, that's so cool. So you did
- 12:59Speaker 1: you cut your second podcast episode last night?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Yes?
- 13:03Speaker 1: On Spotify?
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yep, you can find us on Spotify.
- 13:06Speaker 1: When we look for you on Spotify. What do we
- 13:08Speaker 1: type in?
- 13:09Speaker 2: Just ch chop to h u p T A okay,
- 13:13Speaker 2: chapter as in like what'schep to?
- 13:16Speaker 1: So that was one of my big questions this morning.
- 13:18Speaker 1: And I don't know if you noticed, but I didn't
- 13:21Speaker 1: ask you that over the phone because I wanted to
- 13:23Speaker 1: get the answer. Is that what that's about? Yes? Chapter?
- 13:27Speaker 2: Chapter?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Oh my god? So what are you going to do
- 13:31Speaker 1: with this podcast? What do you what's what are you
- 13:34Speaker 1: going to talk about? I mean, I'm curious.
- 13:38Speaker 2: So we our goal is to talk about recovery and
- 13:44Speaker 2: even active addiction, to let people know that you're not
- 13:48Speaker 2: alone in these feelings, and it's you know, to validate people.
- 13:54Speaker 2: And also to talk about mental health. Wow, that's something
- 14:01Speaker 2: we both struggle with too.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Honestly, everybody does just gonna say. It's like, honestly, who
- 14:07Speaker 1: the hell doesn't really?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's and it's crazy because it is in
- 14:14Speaker 2: a bigger light now, but it's still kind of hush
- 14:17Speaker 2: hush not to talk about sure, And.
- 14:20Speaker 1: It's that's our society is so fucked up. We we
- 14:24Speaker 1: you know, we we stigmatize everything, everything, and a lot
- 14:31Speaker 1: of us we just have we have pride that gets
- 14:36Speaker 1: in the way, we have ego that gets in the way,
- 14:39Speaker 1: we have a we have a lot of things that
- 14:46Speaker 1: get in the way. But we need a lot of
- 14:49Speaker 1: us just need to keep up with the Joneses, or
- 14:52Speaker 1: we we just have to give a different persona that
- 14:56Speaker 1: we're good. We're good, we're successful, and it's just it's
- 15:03Speaker 1: just not the reality. I mean, a lot of us
- 15:05Speaker 1: are carrying around stuff. We're carrying around weight that a
- 15:09Speaker 1: lot of other people don't know about and don't see.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's our little motto for our podcast is
- 15:18Speaker 2: you're not alone. We're all fucked up.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Like, yes, God, that's so true. Yeah, And I heard
- 15:24Speaker 1: you guys saying that on your first podcast. Is that,
- 15:27Speaker 1: in some way or another, who doesn't have a fucked
- 15:31Speaker 1: up family right now? I mean it's like.
- 15:34Speaker 2: God, or friendships or or relationships.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Or yeah, I know, I know, you know. It's we're
- 15:44Speaker 1: not all the Brady bunch man.
- 15:46Speaker 2: It's like, man, it'd be nice, though.
- 15:47Speaker 1: It would be nice, but it's just not. It's so
- 15:50Speaker 1: far from reality. So you guys are taking your message
- 15:55Speaker 1: of hey, let's all be fucked up together, let's let's
- 16:02Speaker 1: maybe even share a laugh about it and goof around, yeah,
- 16:06Speaker 1: and and try to have some fun. But also there's
- 16:11Speaker 1: you're incorporating a real serious message behind some of your content,
- 16:16Speaker 1: and I think going forward, you're going to be injecting
- 16:18Speaker 1: a whole hell of a lot of that, which is,
- 16:20Speaker 1: you know, be a goof be funny. But if you
- 16:28Speaker 1: make a bad decision, or if you're currently making bad decisions,
- 16:35Speaker 1: don't don't believe that that's who you are and that
- 16:41Speaker 1: you need to continue to uphold that you can make
- 16:45Speaker 1: some Really I don't want to speak for you, which
- 16:49Speaker 1: is what I'm doing, but you don't. You don't. You
- 16:51Speaker 1: can make some really good decisions and still not lose
- 16:55Speaker 1: your goofy personality. As as someone who's like you said,
- 17:00Speaker 1: the light of the party.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that when I was using and drinking
- 17:06Speaker 2: that people enjoyed me more that I was, you know,
- 17:10Speaker 2: more interesting in that people wanted something to do with me.
- 17:13Speaker 2: But in all reality, it was just that filter was
- 17:16Speaker 2: gone and it got sober and just realized, I mean
- 17:21Speaker 2: both back and I realized like we are pretty fucking funny,
- 17:24Speaker 2: Like we don't need we don't need substances to to
- 17:29Speaker 2: bring our light out. That that was quite a journey.
- 17:33Speaker 2: It took me a long time to do some self
- 17:36Speaker 2: healing because like growing up, I was always told stop
- 17:38Speaker 2: making those faces and that's not funny to joke about
- 17:41Speaker 2: or shit like that.
- 17:43Speaker 1: Yes, and Beca kind of has to be on the
- 17:52Speaker 1: same page as Hugh. You guys to be able to
- 17:55Speaker 1: do this, you both need to like seriously relate to
- 17:59Speaker 1: each other.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, and we do. I always joked that if
- 18:04Speaker 2: she was a man, I'd probably marry her, but really,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but then I found my lovely husband, so sorry.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Becca Beca says we're about accountability, responsibility and taking those
- 18:16Speaker 1: experiences to change, learn, laugh about it, and move forward.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Absolutely beautifully said right there, I'm proud of you guys already.
- 18:25Speaker 1: For for anyone who is willing to be so transparent
- 18:31Speaker 1: and bring this to a podcast, it's podcasting is it's
- 18:38Speaker 1: an interesting relationship that you have.
- 18:41Speaker 2: It's a weird art form.
- 18:42Speaker 1: It's a weird art form, and it's something that you
- 18:48Speaker 1: can't There's a lot of people that say I'm gonna,
- 18:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna start up a podcast and either never do
- 18:57Speaker 1: or they started up and a week or two. When
- 19:02Speaker 1: you have to be really committed to it and always
- 19:08Speaker 1: be looking for some fresh content and keeping the edge sharp.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And that's yeah.
- 19:13Speaker 2: And I feel like we always have something to talk about,
- 19:16Speaker 2: and we talk about some stupid things. If you if
- 19:21Speaker 2: you're a prude. Don't yeah, oh yeah, don't tune in. Yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 2: not your podcast.
- 19:27Speaker 1: No, that's right.
- 19:28Speaker 2: No, there will be farting in microphones, cussing like sailors,
- 19:33Speaker 2: and talking about just everything in life, everything and anything
- 19:36Speaker 2: in life, things that you would talk about with your
- 19:39Speaker 2: best friend right in their living room, you know, like,
- 19:43Speaker 2: but we don't want to hide it.
- 19:44Speaker 1: It's next level. It's I think that's I think that's great. Yeah,
- 19:49Speaker 1: And why why the hell not? You know, I mean,
- 19:51Speaker 1: there's so many people out there that are scrolling the
- 19:55Speaker 1: same ship on their phone, watching the same stuff on
- 19:59Speaker 1: TV or Netflix or whatever they're watching. Fashen it up.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Find something that's that's unique, that's different. You get two
- 20:06Speaker 1: Vermont girls who are not even in the same town,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and you're coming together through this podcast and trying to
- 20:16Speaker 1: reach out to not only entertain but also give some
- 20:19Speaker 1: inspiration to you. Can you can conquer this and still,
- 20:26Speaker 1: like I said, keep your goofy party type personality. Yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 1: that's awesome. How How often is this? How often is
- 20:36Speaker 1: this podcast?
- 20:37Speaker 2: So our goal is to do every two weeks. But
- 20:40Speaker 2: Becca had to go on a work trip to Philly,
- 20:45Speaker 2: so okay, and she just came back so we got
- 20:47Speaker 2: to do it last night. We like to do it
- 20:51Speaker 2: probably more often, but we're you know, we also have
- 20:54Speaker 2: jobs and kids and you know, lives.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So of course. And it's going to be on Spotify.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yes, it's on Spotify. We also have a Facebook page.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Okay, I was going to ask you that, which is
- 21:09Speaker 1: called what.
- 21:10Speaker 2: The chp to podcast?
- 21:12Speaker 1: The chop to podcast?
- 21:15Speaker 2: I'm certain, let me double check.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Beca's making sure right now. So where the hell is Becca?
- 21:22Speaker 2: Becca? She had to take her dad to a really
- 21:26Speaker 2: important doctor's appointment. Okay, so she wasn't able to make
- 21:29Speaker 2: it in.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Is she going to get in here at some point?
- 21:31Speaker 2: Oh? Absolutely, all right, we're going to be doing regular
- 21:35Speaker 2: checkups here just so we're gonna move in.
- 21:39Speaker 1: That's fine. So she'll be coming down from hard Wreck.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You'll be coming up from from Brand Brandon.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Ye, all right, which is good because we like, i
- 21:46Speaker 2: mean obviously meet up with each other.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Yeah. So you're familiar with this area.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, Yeah. This is where I grew up.
- 21:55Speaker 1: This is where you grew up. Yeah.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I was born in Brockton, Massachusetts. Okay, and then my
- 22:00Speaker 2: mother and I moved here when I was like five.
- 22:03Speaker 2: My grandmother lives up in Highgate. I grew up in Highgate. Okay,
- 22:09Speaker 2: my grandmother's still there, it's been like twenty something years.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Really, you're gonna go out and see her today?
- 22:15Speaker 2: Oh yeah?
- 22:15Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 22:16Speaker 2: If I don't, she might be upset.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And she locked in with us this one.
- 22:18Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure she is. Yeah, she was asking what
- 22:21Speaker 2: time I was going to be on Hi, Grandma.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So that's so, that's so cool. So you you you
- 22:26Speaker 1: know this town?
- 22:27Speaker 2: Yes?
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah, what do you think of of what you're you're
- 22:31Speaker 1: seeing and hearing about what you have heard about, but
- 22:36Speaker 1: and and experienced, but what you're seeing these days, not
- 22:41Speaker 1: just Barry, but but also Montpellier, all of Central from Mot.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it's sad, honestly, it's it's really sad to see
- 22:51Speaker 2: people that I grew up with just kind of dropping
- 22:55Speaker 2: like flies, unfortunately because of this crazy epidemic that we're in.
- 23:01Speaker 2: And I count my blessings every day that I got
- 23:05Speaker 2: out when I did, because that's it's it's tough.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Look at these look at these drug busts. I mean
- 23:15Speaker 1: there's yeah, yesterday, the day before yesterday.
- 23:20Speaker 2: There was one in Rutland, the.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Big one in Rutland. And you know, you know, what's
- 23:25Speaker 1: amazing to me is I don't know, it's just I
- 23:31Speaker 1: don't know. It just seems this this way that like
- 23:39Speaker 1: back in the in the nineties, we didn't see drug
- 23:46Speaker 1: busts taking place in the outskirts of like beautiful towns
- 23:52Speaker 1: of like Washington and in the hills you know where
- 23:57Speaker 1: it's it's so beautiful.
- 24:00Speaker 2: It was just big rich people, right exactly, the people
- 24:04Speaker 2: who had the money for it.
- 24:06Speaker 1: But it's like now, you know, now we got we
- 24:09Speaker 1: got major bus taking place in in some of these
- 24:14Speaker 1: beautiful rural towns in Vermont. And that's I mean, you know,
- 24:23Speaker 1: we see the pictures of the drugs and the and
- 24:25Speaker 1: the guns, and and you know, the roundups of there's
- 24:31Speaker 1: always some Vermontors in there, and it seems like there's
- 24:36Speaker 1: always some people from from Springfield, mass from Hartford, Connecticut, Albany.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Are we winning or losing the the the fight on drugs? Here?
- 24:51Speaker 1: Hearing Vermont, Hearing hearing Vermont.
- 24:55Speaker 2: I can't. I can't really give an answer because I'm
- 24:59Speaker 2: not really associated with that, you know, that part of
- 25:05Speaker 2: my life anymore. I've written off people, you know, I've
- 25:10Speaker 2: I moved away multiple times out of state. That was
- 25:14Speaker 2: my way of getting sober. The first time was to
- 25:19Speaker 2: New Jersey in twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen. I packed up
- 25:23Speaker 2: my kids and moved where I didn't know anybody and
- 25:27Speaker 2: did it all on my own. Then I hated New Jersey.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Freaking terrible people there are just so mean and it
- 25:37Speaker 2: wasn't for me. I didn't like it. So then I
- 25:39Speaker 2: ended up coming back and then went through a pretty
- 25:45Speaker 2: traumatic past relationship and stuff.
- 25:50Speaker 1: But overcame when you came back. Yeah, when I came back,
- 25:54Speaker 1: Post Jersey got it.
- 25:56Speaker 2: And then my husband and I moved to Texas recently,
- 26:05Speaker 2: and then that wasn't for me either, so I came back.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I just keep coming back. But we we landed in
- 26:12Speaker 2: Brandon and I love it there good. I love it.
- 26:15Speaker 2: It's quiet, it's peaceful, the school system is great for
- 26:18Speaker 2: our kids, and there's no there's no triggers unless I
- 26:22Speaker 2: go to you know, Rutland and Godo Walmart or something.
- 26:26Speaker 2: That's a freaking trip. How So, just seeing people so
- 26:31Speaker 2: zombified on the side of the road and homeless and
- 26:37Speaker 2: you know, struggling, and it's sad. It's it's sad. I
- 26:41Speaker 2: just want to scoop them up and hold them and
- 26:44Speaker 2: tell them everything's going to be okay.
- 26:45Speaker 1: But you know, zombified. Wow, what a word. And uh,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know I saw I don't know if you know
- 26:52Speaker 1: Seth Garrish, but he posted a video yesterday of a
- 26:59Speaker 1: guy that was obviously very very high over at Cumberland
- 27:06Speaker 1: Farms and it was unbelievable to see that. I don't
- 27:13Speaker 1: want my kids seeing that. Yeah, it's amazing, it is.
- 27:18Speaker 2: And with you know, raising kids in this too is
- 27:23Speaker 2: like I have an almost thirteen year old son and
- 27:28Speaker 2: God that it makes me nervous.
- 27:30Speaker 1: How many kids? Yeah?
- 27:31Speaker 2: I have two boys, okay.
- 27:32Speaker 1: At thirteen and eight. Wow, man, you got your hands full. Yeah,
- 27:40Speaker 1: good boys.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Oh absolutely, I by the grace of God. You know,
- 27:46Speaker 2: they're amazing kids. And we are very open with conversations
- 27:51Speaker 2: and I don't beat around the bush with them either.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I'm very you know, if they have questions, they come
- 27:57Speaker 2: to me, and that's the kind of relationship that I
- 27:59Speaker 2: want with them. Have they had questions, yes, especially with
- 28:05Speaker 2: us starting the podcast there, you know, they want to
- 28:08Speaker 2: know what we're talking about and having to have the
- 28:11Speaker 2: conversations with them that I was an addict and they
- 28:15Speaker 2: kind of saw the phase of the alcoholism. Wow, So
- 28:22Speaker 2: having those big conversations, you know, that's age appropriate. You know,
- 28:27Speaker 2: going to go into detail about things of.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Course, of course, but someday going forward.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I have to prepare them not only not only for
- 28:41Speaker 2: like what could come across their paths, but you know,
- 28:46Speaker 2: I come from a line of addictive family, my father,
- 28:51Speaker 2: my mom, grandparents, so that it's hereditary. So to prepare
- 29:01Speaker 2: them for that.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they're blessed that you are having such open conversations.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Yes, yeah. So my oldest is autistic, but he's very
- 29:17Speaker 2: low on the spectrum. It's more or less aspergers. He
- 29:21Speaker 2: struggles with peer communication and just like reading people's cues,
- 29:26Speaker 2: he really struggles with but he is. He comes home
- 29:29Speaker 2: and he's like, what's wrong with these kids these days?
- 29:32Speaker 2: It's like they got brain rot and they're all stupid.
- 29:35Speaker 2: It's like, Dom, you are one of the kids.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But I mean, it's look at what these kids have
- 29:45Speaker 1: in front of them. They have a world.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they have actual yea crazy things. And you know,
- 29:56Speaker 2: some people say that my husband and I are strict parents,
- 29:59Speaker 2: but you know they're not ready for that. I don't
- 30:03Speaker 2: remember who told me one time, but they I heard
- 30:06Speaker 2: that us as humans are not made to take in
- 30:12Speaker 2: so much information from around the world. We are so
- 30:15Speaker 2: we we are built to have smaller communities and to
- 30:19Speaker 2: know like what's around us here. Taking in all the
- 30:22Speaker 2: information at once from around the world is overload. And
- 30:27Speaker 2: for a developing child, you know, that's why they anxiety
- 30:33Speaker 2: is such a big thing, and depression and it's they
- 30:35Speaker 2: have all of this information at their fingertips. Sure, so
- 30:41Speaker 2: I try really hard to, you know, minimize.
- 30:44Speaker 1: That they are.
- 30:48Speaker 2: You're right, but you can't hide them from everything.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Yeah, God, and I you know, it's it's I'm listening
- 30:57Speaker 1: to you, and I'm thinking about our kid and what
- 31:04Speaker 1: what she's already starting to see and hear.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Ten it only gets worse.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Yeah, oh my god, the attitude Jesus Lord.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I got the lovely mother's curse of you're gonna
- 31:19Speaker 2: have children that are gonna be just like you. And
- 31:21Speaker 2: guess what it freaking happened? Oh oh yeah, oh yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 1: But you seem you seem like you got a good
- 31:31Speaker 1: man in your life too, that you kind of absolutely
- 31:34Speaker 1: dialed into this.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Yes, yes, thank god.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Thank god. Yeah, Because there's a lot of there's a
- 31:40Speaker 1: lot of bad dudes out there.
- 31:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, I've come across a few.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I'm sure you have. Yeah, but it's it's you know,
- 31:47Speaker 1: what do we say to our kids, you know? And
- 31:50Speaker 1: what do we say to them when it's really not
- 31:54Speaker 1: that big of a deal. If they're somewhere and some
- 31:58Speaker 1: people are smoking pot. It's just I mean when I was,
- 32:04Speaker 1: oh my god, when I was in elementary school, middle school,
- 32:08Speaker 1: if somebody was spoken pot, that was like heroin. Yeah,
- 32:14Speaker 1: it was huge. I mean this was you know, early eighties,
- 32:21Speaker 1: different way of thinking about it. But this this is
- 32:24Speaker 1: like it's so accessible now, it's so easy, And do
- 32:30Speaker 1: you do you what do you think about pot? Do
- 32:33Speaker 1: you think it's a gateway? And are you what are
- 32:36Speaker 1: you going to say to one of your kids if
- 32:44Speaker 1: you know, if that want to try it or it's
- 32:49Speaker 1: been offered to them, what do you what are you
- 32:51Speaker 1: going to say?
- 32:52Speaker 2: So I grew up around pot like that, My whole
- 32:57Speaker 2: freaking family smokes pot, And to me it was normal.
- 33:02Speaker 2: It was a normal thing. I I do once in
- 33:07Speaker 2: a while, but it's more for like my anxiety. But
- 33:12Speaker 2: then I you know, then I do too much and
- 33:16Speaker 2: then I start freaking out, and then I call my
- 33:18Speaker 2: husband because I'm freaking the fuck out, and I'm like,
- 33:21Speaker 2: I'm dying, and he's always like, why are you doing
- 33:23Speaker 2: this to yourself? You know what's gonna happen. So I've
- 33:27Speaker 2: just kind of stopped doing it. But I mean it
- 33:35Speaker 2: could be used as a tool. I used it as
- 33:37Speaker 2: a tool. And what I would tell my kids is,
- 33:43Speaker 2: if you're gonna do something, be smart about it. Yeah,
- 33:46Speaker 2: kids are you know, they're gonna be They're gonna want
- 33:49Speaker 2: to try things. I was that kid. Sure you know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: I wonder what it's like to smoke a cigarette, and
- 33:55Speaker 2: sure I'll take some booger sugar. Like, of course they're
- 33:58Speaker 2: gonna freaking try it. But I want to educate them
- 34:01Speaker 2: that if you're going to try it, and you want
- 34:03Speaker 2: to do it, then you you need to be smart.
- 34:05Speaker 2: You need to know where your ship's coming from, and
- 34:08Speaker 2: you need to tell somebody yeah you know nothing, and
- 34:13Speaker 2: you need to test your you know.
- 34:15Speaker 1: Not be hanging walking around downtown and getting in cars
- 34:19Speaker 1: and yeah.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Going off with strangers or listen, I don't follow your
- 34:25Speaker 2: mother's footsteps.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I could ask, yeah, well, and I could ask, you
- 34:30Speaker 1: know myself, the same question, you know, how how am
- 34:33Speaker 1: I going to respond to this?
- 34:35Speaker 2: And I think the best way is just head on
- 34:40Speaker 2: and just be open and honest and blunt. Yeah, because
- 34:47Speaker 2: the scare tactic didn't do anything to me, Like, yeah,
- 34:51Speaker 2: it did nothing. It just made me more curious.
- 34:57Speaker 1: How far are you willing to be transparent because I
- 35:00Speaker 1: don't want to ask you something that if your kids
- 35:03Speaker 1: are going back and watching this. Okay, So what was
- 35:07Speaker 1: your beyond pop? What was your what were your drugs?
- 35:12Speaker 2: Cocaine and heroin and then alcohol?
- 35:17Speaker 1: Yeah? Of the three, was there one that was harder
- 35:24Speaker 1: to get clean of?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Alcohol?
- 35:27Speaker 1: Wow?
- 35:28Speaker 2: I think it was because it was such a it's
- 35:31Speaker 2: always in your face, everywhere kind of thing.
- 35:36Speaker 1: You didn't even have to hesitate when I asked you that.
- 35:42Speaker 1: That's amazing. Yeah, it's it's everywhere. Yeah, like you say,
- 35:48Speaker 1: it's just part of.
- 35:50Speaker 2: Part of it's part of culture, part of the norm,
- 35:52Speaker 2: which is freaking crazy to me. But right, I mean
- 35:56Speaker 2: it's not You're not going to change it.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, it's everywhere. It's at every birthday, party, barbecue.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Fourth of July is wherever, totally normalized. How do you
- 36:10Speaker 1: say now? And do you still do you still crave it?
- 36:14Speaker 2: I do still crave it, not as often, but I
- 36:22Speaker 2: went to Brattleborough Retreat recently. I did their outpatient program
- 36:26Speaker 2: again for some psychological things going on. But and I
- 36:35Speaker 2: started a new medication, which if I drink would be
- 36:40Speaker 2: probably freaking terrible and I and I don't want to
- 36:45Speaker 2: try it. It's crazy to me because now like I
- 36:48Speaker 2: used to I used to do anything, I'm like a
- 36:51Speaker 2: little pilchair, I'll take that, or you know, doing lines
- 36:55Speaker 2: off of a toilet and a club and you know,
- 36:59Speaker 2: like sure stupid things. And now I'm like, I don't
- 37:01Speaker 2: know if I should take this medicine or this is
- 37:04Speaker 2: too much ibuprofen, like overthinking it. So now with taking
- 37:11Speaker 2: medication for my bipolar, I'm too afraid to even try.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I don't want to try. I started on lithium because
- 37:22Speaker 2: they don't do they don't do the bottomies anymore. So
- 37:30Speaker 2: so what do you have?
- 37:33Speaker 1: Where do your what are your what?
- 37:35Speaker 2: A pen and paper?
- 37:36Speaker 1: What are your stamps?
- 37:37Speaker 2: What don't I have?
- 37:38Speaker 1: What are your what are your stamps?
- 37:39Speaker 2: So I was I have PTSD star PTSD from UH
- 37:46Speaker 2: sexual trauma from UH being a child and teenager and adult.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Unfortunately I have bipolar UH oh dear, I have o
- 38:03Speaker 2: c D. I also have severe depression and anxiety problems.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I was also recently diagnosed with like a mild form
- 38:17Speaker 2: of Tourettes too.
- 38:22Speaker 1: You've had you've had quite a life. Oh yeah, and
- 38:26Speaker 1: you said you've been in foster care since you were twelve? Yes, okay,
- 38:31Speaker 1: any relationships, good relationships with any of those foster families or.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yes, some of the people. Some of the families I
- 38:42Speaker 2: do keep in contact with, not as often as i'd like.
- 38:45Speaker 2: But you know, with life and stuff.
- 38:48Speaker 1: You seem like somebody. Uh and I know, beck I
- 38:52Speaker 1: say the word stamps. My god, I've got mine too.
- 38:56Speaker 1: But you you, you, you come across as someone to
- 39:00Speaker 1: me who you really catch your ship together. No, you see,
- 39:07Speaker 1: seriously to me that that's what I see. I don't
- 39:12Speaker 1: think so, I think. I think what I'm what I'm
- 39:14Speaker 1: seeing here is a great mom who has earned her
- 39:20Speaker 1: her badges. I mean, you've you know what you're doing now,
- 39:23Speaker 1: you've got it, You're figuring it out.
- 39:26Speaker 2: I'm definitely a lot further along than where I was.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Absolutely, it's only been a couple of years.
- 39:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and I owe a lot of it to my husband.
- 39:39Speaker 2: We kind of got sober together, and I want to I.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Want to know about this. That was one of my questions.
- 39:44Speaker 2: So we went to Spaulding High School together and we
- 39:49Speaker 2: were in junior r OTC together kind of, But then
- 39:52Speaker 2: I went into Foster Karen I moved away, so we
- 39:56Speaker 2: just lost touch and I was drinking a lot, he
- 40:01Speaker 2: was drinking a lot. And we met up at Gusto's.
- 40:09Speaker 2: The longest one night stand ever. It's been three years now.
- 40:11Speaker 1: Wow, that's awesome. That's great.
- 40:17Speaker 2: Yeah, and he is my support human. Him and Becca
- 40:21Speaker 2: are my lifeline, the.
- 40:24Speaker 1: Three of you. Yeah. Yeah, So who's so whose idea was? So?
- 40:28Speaker 1: Y'all y'all did this together? Y'all got so whose idea
- 40:35Speaker 1: was it? To say? Yo, man, like my husband, this
- 40:39Speaker 1: is the bottom, Like, I'm not doing this?
- 40:41Speaker 2: It was it was it was Joe. It was my husband.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I really like tested the waters too, because I didn't
- 40:49Speaker 2: want to stop doing it because I was like, but
- 40:52Speaker 2: it's fun and it's my way to get away from
- 40:55Speaker 2: the kids and it's my way to like go have fun.
- 40:58Speaker 2: And he's like, there's so many other ways to do
- 41:00Speaker 2: it then destroying your life and your body.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Wow. Was he relaying the same message to Becca or
- 41:11Speaker 1: were you?
- 41:14Speaker 2: I think he was I think he was kind of
- 41:17Speaker 2: projecting it to both of us, especially because when Becka
- 41:23Speaker 2: and I got together, Yeah, that's when that's when we're like,
- 41:28Speaker 2: what do we do? Let's go to the bar. One
- 41:30Speaker 2: time we were we were we were both in school.
- 41:37Speaker 2: I don't even remember what I was in school for,
- 41:39Speaker 2: and we justified taking our our school a school stuff
- 41:45Speaker 2: to the bar and we're like, we're just going to
- 41:47Speaker 2: sit at the bar and just do some school work,
- 41:49Speaker 2: maybe order some food. We didn't leave. People started rolling in.
- 41:53Speaker 2: It was Friday, and then I was like, what are
- 41:57Speaker 2: we doing?
- 42:03Speaker 1: What? What do you think made? What do you think
- 42:07Speaker 1: made Joe say? All right, we got to start tapping
- 42:14Speaker 1: the brakes here a little bit.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I think it was because we both wanted better lives, better,
- 42:22Speaker 2: like better than what we had, because clearly doing it
- 42:27Speaker 2: the way that we were doing it wasn't freaking working. Yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 2: it was just running into a wall.
- 42:32Speaker 1: Right, But one of you had to see that it
- 42:36Speaker 1: wasn't working. Someone has to really recognize it, and a
- 42:41Speaker 1: lot of us don't. We just stay on the road
- 42:45Speaker 1: and go faster and faster. But for someone to finally
- 42:51Speaker 1: see recognize this isn't working, I.
- 42:54Speaker 2: Feel like we stopped just like a test trial, and
- 42:58Speaker 2: then realize like, what the fuck am I doing?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Right?
- 43:01Speaker 2: You know, I'm tired of feeling like crap. My health
- 43:03Speaker 2: was also not great. Yeah, I have thyroid problems and
- 43:09Speaker 2: you know, drinking does obviously does not help that at all.
- 43:13Speaker 2: And it was also making my anxiety way worse because
- 43:18Speaker 2: then lack of sleep and then you're not eating correctly, and.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Well that affects everything. Yeah, your job, your relationship, your
- 43:28Speaker 1: relationship with your kids. I mean the list goes on.
- 43:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Wow, what a story. And the fact that that the
- 43:38Speaker 1: three of you kind of got into this boat and
- 43:41Speaker 1: said we're going to be each other's support system. We
- 43:47Speaker 1: have to do this, that's really that's really remarkable.
- 43:52Speaker 2: There's definitely been bumps along the way when that has.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Only been a couple of years now. Man, I mean that,
- 43:57Speaker 1: of course there's going to be bumps.
- 44:01Speaker 2: When I when we moved to Texas, Beck and I
- 44:03Speaker 2: kind of fell out of touch. But then I moved
- 44:06Speaker 2: back and we're like, you know what, let's freaking do this,
- 44:09Speaker 2: Like we've been talking about it for like six years. Really, yeah,
- 44:12Speaker 2: we've been talking about doing this for a longing. Ye,
- 44:18Speaker 2: But then we didn't really know what we were going
- 44:19Speaker 2: to do, and then it just kind of clicked, like
- 44:21Speaker 2: this is our calling. You know. She went to college
- 44:25Speaker 2: for criminal justice highest honors. You go girl, Yeah, she
- 44:32Speaker 2: kicked ass. Wow. And I've always just been in the
- 44:37Speaker 2: healthcare field because that's my way of caring for people.
- 44:40Speaker 2: And we both you know, not just struggle, but we
- 44:46Speaker 2: deal with with all this stuff every day, and it's like,
- 44:50Speaker 2: there's so many other people out there who do too.
- 44:53Speaker 2: Maybe we can shed some light to make them feel
- 44:56Speaker 2: like it's not you know, you're not alone and it's okay.
- 45:01Speaker 2: It's okay to be struggling, but you got to find
- 45:06Speaker 2: your way out at some point. And maybe giving people
- 45:09Speaker 2: those plugs.
- 45:11Speaker 1: So when you do this podcast, is it taped or
- 45:18Speaker 1: is it live?
- 45:19Speaker 2: It's taped.
- 45:20Speaker 1: It's taped, but it's not edited. No.
- 45:24Speaker 2: We also have a open line that we're trying to
- 45:27Speaker 2: get people to call into because we want our callers
- 45:30Speaker 2: to be the light of the show. That's why we're
- 45:33Speaker 2: trying to get our name out there and push it
- 45:35Speaker 2: because we want people to call in with anything anything, Yeah,
- 45:40Speaker 2: crazy ass stories and you know, if you're looking for
- 45:46Speaker 2: a different point of view or if you want some advice,
- 45:52Speaker 2: or if.
- 45:52Speaker 1: You frankly, if you just want to goof.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Around right, yeah, like laugh.
- 45:59Speaker 1: We we need to laugh. We need to laugh about
- 46:03Speaker 1: more things.
- 46:04Speaker 2: Laughter is the best medicine.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Even our bad decisions, how badly we fucked up?
- 46:10Speaker 2: Oh yeah looking back and yeah yeah, I.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Mean try to laugh if you can. So when when?
- 46:23Speaker 1: How do we know when you're going to be doing
- 46:27Speaker 1: this so that we can call in? That's I think
- 46:30Speaker 1: that's my question. So if you're if you're recording it,
- 46:33Speaker 1: how do we know when.
- 46:34Speaker 2: So you can call in whenever the hell you want?
- 46:36Speaker 2: So it is a answering system and our hold on again.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I'm going to work. I'm going to put it in
- 46:42Speaker 1: the comments too.
- 46:43Speaker 2: I got my number written in my hand.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Beautiful, that's the best place.
- 46:47Speaker 2: To write so much. So it's eight oh two four
- 46:51Speaker 2: three eight three zero seven to five call one more
- 46:55Speaker 2: time A two four three eight three zero yeah seven
- 46:59Speaker 2: five three zero seven five Yes, and you can call anytime.
- 47:04Speaker 1: Anytime, And we have this message and you guys will
- 47:08Speaker 1: play it back on the air.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Yes, so you might hear yourself on the chep to podcasts,
- 47:13Speaker 2: so she'd probably call in. Okay, we did get our
- 47:17Speaker 2: first call. We got two calls. Actually, the first one
- 47:22Speaker 2: was fifteen seconds of silence okay, so that was fun.
- 47:26Speaker 2: And then the next one was Becca testing it out,
- 47:30Speaker 2: testing it out, yeah, saying is this the crosty grab?
- 47:37Speaker 1: Oh my god? All right. So and the fact that
- 47:43Speaker 1: you're doing this and she's in hard Way and you're
- 47:45Speaker 1: in Brandon, that's pretty that's that's pretty cool.
- 47:49Speaker 2: We obviously can't meet up all the time in person,
- 47:52Speaker 2: which I hate, and I wish you would move closer.
- 47:54Speaker 2: That'd be great.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Yeah, what you doing?
- 47:57Speaker 2: I know she's probably gonna be like, why don't you
- 47:58Speaker 2: move closer to me? Yeah? Well, but she calls in and.
- 48:06Speaker 1: While I record, So okay, all right, So she got
- 48:09Speaker 1: a board.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Yes, okay, we got a little little board. I'm still learning.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I don't know what the hell I'm doing.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Yeah, honestly, neither do I.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's learning and figuring it out as you go.
- 48:22Speaker 2: So yeah, I'm pretty excited for it.
- 48:26Speaker 1: So what what do you are you gonna have?
- 48:31Speaker 2: You?
- 48:31Speaker 1: Have you written maybe a press release or if you
- 48:36Speaker 1: tried to reach out to oh god, no, anywhere.
- 48:39Speaker 2: We're at the very very very beginning, okay, like figuring
- 48:42Speaker 2: out Okay, we started it. Where do we go from here?
- 48:45Speaker 1: Yeah, my god, don't give up on this though.
- 48:50Speaker 2: No, I think we're both very passionate about it. Yeah,
- 48:56Speaker 2: so I I think I think it's gonna go on
- 49:00Speaker 2: for a long time. I hope it's going to go
- 49:01Speaker 2: on for a long time.
- 49:03Speaker 1: I'll tell you right now. It will get funky.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but you gotta hold it. You gotta hold it out.
- 49:09Speaker 1: You gotta hang on. You gotta hang on, man. It's
- 49:12Speaker 1: and as soon as you start getting a a fan base,
- 49:19Speaker 1: a listener base that needs to hear your podcast and
- 49:25Speaker 1: your your message, then you're more committed that way, and
- 49:32Speaker 1: you just gotta you gotta stay with it, even though
- 49:36Speaker 1: some episodes might suck.
- 49:39Speaker 2: Yeah, oh got our first one, like the first full
- 49:42Speaker 2: half was like an auto tune and it sounded so bad.
- 49:46Speaker 2: I was like, you know what, we're not redoing it,
- 49:48Speaker 2: just freaking Yeah. You gotta start somewhere.
- 49:51Speaker 1: And I think that's great.
- 49:52Speaker 2: I like that it's not perfect, you know. I like
- 49:55Speaker 2: the the grittiness of it.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Sure, sure, yeah, you guys are You and Becka are
- 50:02Speaker 1: hysterical together?
- 50:03Speaker 2: At least some may think so, my god, we made it.
- 50:07Speaker 1: I mean so well, is Joe going to be on
- 50:12Speaker 1: the air with you guys?
- 50:13Speaker 2: Well maybe at some point he is a cross cross
- 50:17Speaker 2: country trucker, so he's not home.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Very No, that's even better.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I know call in.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Well he when he calls in, he should be live. Yeah,
- 50:32Speaker 1: it's you don't even have to say that he's your husband.
- 50:38Speaker 2: It's just I know, no one he's gonna know.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Joe from the truck. Yeah, Joe is this trucker guy.
- 50:44Speaker 1: I just call him j j Where the hell is
- 50:47Speaker 1: he today? We don't know. Yeah, you don't have him
- 50:50Speaker 1: put him on the air. Put him on the air
- 50:53Speaker 1: when he doesn't even know he's on the air. That's
- 50:55Speaker 1: always fun.
- 50:57Speaker 2: I don't know if I want to listen to that.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Well, are you going to be able to Are you
- 51:04Speaker 1: going to be able to hang on to all of this?
- 51:07Speaker 1: I mean you're.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're very persistent human beings. We don't we
- 51:13Speaker 2: don't give up easy.
- 51:14Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean your your sobriety too. I mean four
- 51:19Speaker 1: you said four years in?
- 51:20Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, somewhere around there.
- 51:23Speaker 1: What did you have to get off? First?
- 51:26Speaker 2: Heroin which kind of tied in with the cocaine.
- 51:30Speaker 1: But all right, was coke right after that, about the
- 51:35Speaker 1: same time, about the same Yeah, okay, how did you
- 51:38Speaker 1: do that? How did you? How did you do that?
- 51:41Speaker 1: Do you get some help?
- 51:42Speaker 2: No? I did not. I did not go to rehab.
- 51:47Speaker 2: I did it on my own. I while I was
- 51:50Speaker 2: going through a divorce and I left the house to him,
- 51:56Speaker 2: and then it kind of fell off the train, you know,
- 51:59Speaker 2: and then started using. Was homeless quite a few times. Yeah,
- 52:08Speaker 2: it was a wild ride.
- 52:11Speaker 1: Usually when we're going through thick shit like that, that's
- 52:16Speaker 1: when it's more of a need to to use.
- 52:22Speaker 2: Yeah. Wow, Yeah, my kids were really my my rock
- 52:32Speaker 2: at the time of like if I need to be
- 52:38Speaker 2: I need to be the not only the parent, but
- 52:41Speaker 2: the adult that I needed as a child. That is
- 52:46Speaker 2: really what pushes me through, is I need to be
- 52:51Speaker 2: what I needed, what you needed.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I was going to say, because there's there's plenty of parents,
- 52:59Speaker 1: there's plenty of moms who have substance use substance use disorder,
- 53:04Speaker 1: and they're just not able to They're not able to
- 53:13Speaker 1: have their kids be the reason for themselves discovering sobriety.
- 53:21Speaker 1: They're just there, I don't want to say too far gone,
- 53:24Speaker 1: but it happens all the time. You know that. Yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 1: that that's sometimes just being a mom and just needing
- 53:34Speaker 1: to be a parent is just not enough.
- 53:38Speaker 2: Yeah, unfortunately it's not. It doesn't click with everyone.
- 53:43Speaker 1: But you were able to somewhere in your soul muster
- 53:49Speaker 1: up enough something. I don't know what it is. It's
- 53:55Speaker 1: it's not toughness, it's beyond that. You found something that's
- 54:01Speaker 1: so inert in you that you may never even tap
- 54:08Speaker 1: into it again. I don't know. But you found something
- 54:10Speaker 1: where you had to make a real, conscious, proactive choice.
- 54:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't really know exactly when it clicked, but
- 54:23Speaker 2: it just happened.
- 54:26Speaker 1: Your kids are lucky. Joe's lucky, of course he is.
- 54:31Speaker 1: What I'm just saying, that just doesn't always happen, you
- 54:36Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Yeah, No, No, I was one of the lucky, one
- 54:41Speaker 2: of the lucky people. I think both of us were,
- 54:45Speaker 2: Beck and I.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:47Speaker 2: And I feel like our friendship too, really like was
- 54:51Speaker 2: such a big part of our sobriety as well.
- 54:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:57Speaker 2: And to do that with someone that you used to
- 54:59Speaker 2: like party party with, partaken in special activities.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Yeah, is even more. I feel like the norm it.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Built our friendship and now I feel like we're kind
- 55:15Speaker 2: of like restarting, you know, like sure, learning each other again.
- 55:19Speaker 1: Usually when you get two hooligans like this together once
- 55:22Speaker 1: if if if one is getting their ship together, one's
- 55:25Speaker 1: going one way and the other staying on the road.
- 55:29Speaker 1: She says, persistent, hard headed, determined. Hilarious, that's what Becka
- 55:35Speaker 1: is saying. So this is really profound what you're what
- 55:42Speaker 1: you're doing.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm extremely proud of us.
- 55:45Speaker 1: How did you how did you hear about aired out?
- 55:47Speaker 1: How did why did you reach out to me?
- 55:51Speaker 2: Well that's a darn good question. I mean you well,
- 55:57Speaker 2: I've obviously follow you, and I see the people that
- 56:01Speaker 2: who come on and you interview and talk with about
- 56:05Speaker 2: their lives and struggles and whatnot. So I thought it
- 56:09Speaker 2: would be a good way to get our name out there,
- 56:13Speaker 2: to let those people know, like, hey, yeah, like there's
- 56:17Speaker 2: a whole bunch of us freaking misfits over here, and
- 56:21Speaker 2: we want to talk and we want to hear what
- 56:23Speaker 2: you have to say and help if we can. I mean,
- 56:25Speaker 2: we're not at all licensed to freaking help. Well I'm
- 56:30Speaker 2: not beca Becca kind of is.
- 56:35Speaker 1: You're real people and you guts like that, really real
- 56:41Speaker 1: life experiences.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm excited for Beca to share her her story.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Too, So both of you, next time you're in here,
- 56:52Speaker 1: you'll be with.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Her, probably hopefully.
- 56:58Speaker 1: What did you think of my discussion with Brandon Carbo.
- 57:05Speaker 2: I caught the tail end of it. I think what
- 57:11Speaker 2: bothered me the most was what people were saying. I
- 57:17Speaker 2: think that's why I had to stop, because people were
- 57:21Speaker 2: just so nasty and disgusting, and it was like, that's
- 57:26Speaker 2: someone's that's someone's freaking kid, that's somebody loves that person.
- 57:31Speaker 2: And let me tell you what I've done some really
- 57:33Speaker 2: shitty things, really fucking shitty things to get a fix,
- 57:39Speaker 2: to sex work, to fucking selling my kids, things, screwing
- 57:46Speaker 2: people over, and instead of instead of putting people down
- 57:54Speaker 2: like that, take that energy to actually take the time
- 57:57Speaker 2: to hear their freaking story, because what good does it do.
- 58:04Speaker 2: That's how people end up dying and killing themselves and
- 58:08Speaker 2: it's terrible. Be nice at least be kind, And if
- 58:12Speaker 2: you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say it.
- 58:15Speaker 2: The golden rule in life.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Come on, you know, I'm still taking heat for having
- 58:23Speaker 1: Brandon Carbo in here because I think and I'm just
- 58:29Speaker 1: trying to I'm just trying to read between the lines here,
- 58:34Speaker 1: and I'm trying to when I see certain comments, I'm
- 58:39Speaker 1: trying to think what it might be that that individual
- 58:46Speaker 1: is feeling and why they might be saying the words
- 58:52Speaker 1: that they're saying instead of just reading the words and
- 58:58Speaker 1: for face value.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Some people don't know how to express they don't. You know,
- 59:03Speaker 2: it takes a long time to figure out why the
- 59:05Speaker 2: fuck am I doing this? Why am I doing this
- 59:07Speaker 2: to myself? You got it, It's like an onion. You
- 59:09Speaker 2: got to peel back the layers to figure out the
- 59:13Speaker 2: root of the cause. And by the sounds of it,
- 59:17Speaker 2: he was dealt a very shitty hand in life.
- 59:19Speaker 1: Yeah, many many hard cards. So were you. And most
- 59:26Speaker 1: of the time when we go delta a bad card
- 59:32Speaker 1: or bad hand, we we we don't play them very well.
- 59:39Speaker 2: Which is brand well because you don't know how right.
- 59:43Speaker 2: And you know, when you don't have people to show
- 59:45Speaker 2: you how to deal those cards, you're you're fucking winging
- 59:49Speaker 2: it or you're in their steps.
- 59:50Speaker 1: But you just you you said, you just said something
- 59:54Speaker 1: to me that is sticking with me. And it's basically
- 59:59Speaker 1: it seems like you understand why I had him on
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: the air. Oh absolutely, But there's there's folks out there
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: that look at it as I had him on the air,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: because I was trying to make him famous more than
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: he already is for all the wrong reasons. But but
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: that I was glorifying his his lifestyle and and his
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: interactions with our community, which have been horrible.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: So what would be glorifying it is bringing him in
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: here and letting him walk away with a couple hundred bucks.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: That's glorifying it. Yeah, just because somebody isn't in the
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: same situation or well being that you are doesn't make
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: them any less of a human sure, and degrading somebody
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: like that doesn't doesn't do anything for you or for
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: the person. Right, And if it makes you feel better,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: that says a lot more about you than it does them.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I said, uh, and it, you know, be honest,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: it kind of irked me a little bit. And I
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: said on the air, listen, if for the for the
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: few people out of almost forty thousand that saw for
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the few people that feel that I was exploiting Brandon
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Carbo or glorifying or praising his efforts to be the
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: person that he is, those, it's fine with me. It's
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: actually liberating for me if they choose, if they if
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I'm that misunderstood, like I said, I mean, I said
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: this on the air, Please don't watch this podcast because
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: you're just you're so out of touch with reality of
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: what I'm trying to do here.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: And not only that, you have the power to scroll away. Yeah,
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: what a weird concept.
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Weird weird, isn't it?
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: I know, insane?
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: What would you say to Brandon though he walks by
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: here every single day, every morning, right here, what would
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: you say to him.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: That there are people who care and when you're ready
- 1:02:25Speaker 2: for the help, there's people who will guide you, and
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: you gotta fucking stick with it. And it is hard,
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: and I'm sure like it would be a lot harder
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: for him than it was for me.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: Do you believe that there are some that are just simply.
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: A lost No, nobody's a lost cause, nobody's a freaking lost.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: Cause you're living proof.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: Of that, sure, I guess.
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: I mean, if I've had it stacked up against.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: You, I couldn't imagine thinking that my worth was more
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: than someone else's. That's insane to me. Wow, Wow, we
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: don't have to see eye to eye, you know, Sure,
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: it's it's crazy yeah, And last night when we recorded
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: the podcast, it was about that pretty much, this okay
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: of being nice and just like taking time, don't be
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: a dick, do stop being a Richard? Yes, right, Just
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: because somebody's not walking the same path that you are
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: doesn't make them any less of a person.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: You know, it's easy, though I'm guilty of it too.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: It's easy to see someone who's panhandling or someone who's
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: you know, for me, it's it's hard for me to
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: see someone who's who's panhandling that you know, you stopped
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: at the light. You're looking at them, You're looking at
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: their face, you're looking at their clothes. You might be
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: trying to come up with your own belief. Do I
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: really think that they're homeless? They might be, they might
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: not be.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Well I'm sorry, but if you didn't need to stand
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: on the side of the road, why the hell would
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: you be there?
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: Well, that's I mean, that's a good question, that's a
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: good question. But it's you know, it's like, you know,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: like I've seen Brandon too. You know, you see someone
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: who's panhandling, but they're smoking cigarettes, which thirteen bucks a
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: pack man, and it's like, you know what.
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: I'm saying, oh, I know. It's it's kind of like
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: when you when you see you come across them and
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: you're like, well, what I think anyways, is I'm just
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: an enabler if I give them money, and I'm an enabler.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so smokes or drugs, right, Yeah, I know, alcohol,
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: you know, I know. And the thing part of the
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: reason why this is such a slippery slope is because
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: this is not true for everybody.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Right, everybody's done, it's all different.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: You can't put everybody in the same box here. I mean,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: it's like that might be true for for even the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: majority of people that you're you're give them five bucks
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: and it's going towards smokes or booze or drugs or whatever,
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: But what about the others?
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, if I ever, know, if I ever give
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: somebody something I usually purchase, you know, like I'll go
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: in and buy them some food or something, right and
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: give it to them, and then you could tell if
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: if it pisses them off or not. Yeah, and you're like, well,
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: you're clearly here for the wrong reason.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Yes, And we've we've many of us have seen that

- 1:08:11Speaker 2: build a community. We don't want to just have it
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: just be us. We want to build a community. We
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: want to hear what people have to say, right and
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: let them be heard.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: No matter what it is. No, Yeah, there's a lot
