- Robert Rosales: Hey friends, welcome to the Daily Word podcast. I'm Robert Rosales, and along with my wife Yolanda, we have the privilege of serving as the campus pastors on our Gastonia campus location. Thank you so much for investing some time with me to invest in God's Word. Whether you're listening on your morning commute, enjoying a cup of coffee, or beginning your day with the Lord, my prayer is that this time encourages you. And draws you closer to him. As a church, each day we're reading through the Bible together using the life journal reading plan. And today we're going to focus on the New Testament passage. And as I read, I'm going to use the soap method to record what I catch from the Lord. S O A P Scripture, Observation, Application, and Prayer. It's a simple framework that helps us move God's word from the page into our everyday lives, which is the point, right? So before we begin, let's invite the Holy Spirit to speak to us and to lead us as we read and listen. Come on, pray with me. Father, thank you for this new day and for the privilege of opening your word. Quiet the distractions around us and the noise within us. Give us hearts that are teachable. Minds that are attentive and lives that are ready to obey whatever you reveal. Holy Spirit, illuminate the scriptures and help us not only understand them, but help us live them out today. We ask this in the name of Jesus, and everybody said, Amen. Well, friends, today's passage for September 23rd is Luke chapter 6, and I journaled from verse 19. I'm going to read it to us. Out of the NIV version, listen as I read. And the people all tried to touch him because power was coming from him and healing them all. And the people all tried to touch Jesus because power was coming from Jesus and healing them all. Luke 6 19. I love to give my journal entries titles. The title of this entry today is simply this: The Power of Jesus. Come on, say it with me. The power of Jesus. And here's my observation: the O in the SOAP acronym. I said this. Wow! Exclamation mark. This passage gives us an up close look at human need and Jesus' power to meet it. Everyone tried to touch him. Because they needed healing and restoration, and they believed that if they touched Jesus, they would be healed. Notice the word power. The text says power was coming from him. Power was coming from Jesus. Now if you've been at Lake Shore any length of time, you know that we like to use Greek words and explain them. The Greek word for power in this verse is the word. Dunamis. D-U N as in Nancy. A as in Mary. I s. Come on, say it with me. Dunamis. And it carries significant weight in Luke's theology. Dunamis means strength, power, or ability. And it's the root of English words that we use like dynamite, dynamo, and dynamic. However, the term carries deeper theological significance than a simple synonym for strength. In biblical contexts, dunamis frequently refers to miraculous power or extraordinary works, the kind of transformative force at work in healings and divine interventions. Most significantly, it means inherent power. In other words, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth. That's dunamis power. These healings originate from a power that was resident in Christ, making it a dynamic process involving a force that Jesus has been given. Importantly, This power is not Jesus' personal possession, but flows from the Holy Spirit and God the Father. It represents the power of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, the power of life itself that brings healing and restoration to human need. These healing miracles showed that a new power was at work in the world and accessible. Through Christ, revealing God's kingdom as health-giving and directly addressing human suffering. The verse presents Jesus not as a healer who dispenses power strategically, but as a conduit through whom divine restoration flows to meet the overwhelming needs of those who approach Him. Wow, that's powerful. So, Pastor Robert. How does this apply to our lives? This is what I wrote word for word. Here's the application. I started with wow, exclamation mark. As I think about this, I am stirred and reminded that the same power of the Holy Spirit is available to you and me as believers today. We've all heard of miracles taking place in modern times. And we are encouraged in the Bible to lay hands on the sick so that they may recover. What if I began? What if we began to expect that the same Jesus and the same power that met human need and suffering through Jesus when he walked the earth is still available today? I mean, I am talking about leaning into this with full faith. Believing the Spirit of Jesus is with me in church services, in the grocery store. In my neighborhood, etc. Then when I see human need and the Lord leads me to offer Jesus to others, I can pray for people or encourage them with the love and the word of God, expecting heaven's healing and restoration to flow. Come on, somebody say amen. That's good stuff. Come on, receive it. Pray with me as I end our time together. Father God. Thank you for speaking to me today through your word. I want to be used by you to manifest the power and love of Jesus through my life. Increase my faith and expectation to the place where your power flows through me to bring healing and restoration to the people around me. I ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus. And everybody said, Amen. Lakeshore family. As you go about your day, my prayer is that you'll keep growing in your love for Jesus and His Word. As you invest time with Him, may He give you fresh insight, strengthen your faith, and guide your steps. Thanks for joining me today on the Daily Word podcast. I pray you've been encouraged to stay in God's Word and walk closely with the Holy Spirit. God bless you, and we'll catch you again tomorrow.
