Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Candice, thank you.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I'm so excited to have you on the show and
- 0:05Speaker 2: to walk with you. I know you do so many
- 0:07Speaker 2: kind of prayer walks in nature. All your fans love that.
- 0:11Speaker 2: So thanks for having me. First, I got to start
- 0:13Speaker 2: with the Special Forces.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Okay. Yes.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Tell me about this because I saw a trailer and
- 0:20Speaker 2: you were in it. It looks like it was totally crazy.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Were you prepared for what was about to happen?
- 0:24Speaker 3: I can't believe I said yes to the show myself,
- 0:27Speaker 3: but- You know what? I turned 50 this year. Wow.
- 0:30Speaker 3: And I really upped my fitness game in the last
- 0:33Speaker 3: year and a half because of my age. I just
- 0:36Speaker 3: want to go into this new decade with a gusto,
- 0:41Speaker 3: you know?
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, that's the way to do it.
- 0:43Speaker 3: I want to say yes to the things that scare me.
- 0:45Speaker 3: So I'm just representing all the women in perimenopause, menopause,
- 0:50Speaker 3: like trying to do hard things.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Tell me about being in these moments where, I mean,
- 0:54Speaker 2: you must have been... exhausted I know you were like
- 0:57Speaker 2: physically ill for parts of this whole thing did you
- 1:00Speaker 2: ever have a moment where you really thought I don't
- 1:03Speaker 2: know if I can do this I imagine you probably
- 1:05Speaker 2: leaned on.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Your faith there's only so much physically you can prepare
- 1:08Speaker 3: for it's just a short window and I had to
- 1:11Speaker 3: prepare mentally but most of all spiritually for me and
- 1:15Speaker 3: I memorized a lot of scripture before I I even
- 1:18Speaker 3: started the show because I knew I was going to
- 1:20Speaker 3: have to draw upon that to remind myself that, you know,
- 1:24Speaker 3: God doesn't give me a spirit of fear.
- 1:26Speaker 1: He gives me a spirit of power and of love
- 1:28Speaker 1: and of a sound mind. And I reminded myself, like.
- 1:31Speaker 3: Josh in Joshua, that he says, Candace, don't be afraid.
- 1:35Speaker 3: Be courageous for the Lord your God is with you
- 1:38Speaker 3: wherever you go. So I was just lots of scripture
- 1:41Speaker 3: on constant repeat for me.
- 1:43Speaker 2: And listen, it was helpful because you did and you
- 1:47Speaker 2: can tell the tale on the other side of it, right?
- 1:50Speaker 2: You did have an eclectic group of people there. Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 2: So when I saw, when I heard about the cast,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I said, I wonder going into it, when you got
- 1:57Speaker 2: to this location and you saw all these people here,
- 1:59Speaker 2: you were gonna be in the trenches with. Was there
- 2:02Speaker 2: anyone that you kind of questioned, I wonder how this
- 2:04Speaker 2: is gonna be?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Yeah, there were actually a lot of people I wasn't
- 2:08Speaker 3: even familiar with because I don't watch reality television, but
- 2:13Speaker 3: I knew it was gonna be interesting. I found Oliver
- 2:16Speaker 3: Hudson right away who I knew and have worked with.
- 2:19Speaker 1: So I grabbed ahold of him. I'm like, you gotta
- 2:21Speaker 1: be my buddy. You gotta help me out here. Oh
- 2:24Speaker 1: my gosh.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Well, you know, being out here in nature and being
- 2:27Speaker 2: in this beautiful vineyard, you are so known for prayer
- 2:30Speaker 2: walks and your spirituality and your faith. And it's something
- 2:34Speaker 2: that I think you have kind of bucked the trend.
- 2:37Speaker 2: You have been so forward with your faith. I'm curious
- 2:41Speaker 2: if there was ever anyone in your past who said,
- 2:43Speaker 2: you know what, maybe you want to downplay that.
- 2:45Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Maybe, maybe in Hollywood, it's not a great thing to
- 2:48Speaker 2: be out front with it.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah, you kind of hear that all the time, you know,
- 2:52Speaker 3: but my core people have never said that to me,
- 2:55Speaker 3: whether that be my husband, my parents, my brother and sisters,
- 3:00Speaker 3: even the people that represent me, my managers, they've never
- 3:04Speaker 3: said that to me. But I've heard it along the
- 3:05Speaker 3: way because I've been canceled from shows. I've been taken
- 3:08Speaker 3: off bookings because I talk too much about my faith
- 3:12Speaker 3: or I'm polarizing in their words.
- 3:15Speaker 1: But you know what?
- 3:15Speaker 3: If I didn't talk about it, I wouldn't be authentic
- 3:18Speaker 3: to me and who I am. And my faith has
- 3:20Speaker 3: been a part of me and important to me since
- 3:23Speaker 3: I was a little girl. So I'm never going to
- 3:25Speaker 3: stop talking about it. Then I would just stop talking
- 3:27Speaker 3: about all the things that make me who I am.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I think you're giving other people the courage in moments.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Maybe it has to do with their faith or other
- 3:35Speaker 2: things to stand up for what they believe in. Have
- 3:37Speaker 2: you always felt that ability to do that? Or were
- 3:40Speaker 2: you ever scared at any time?
- 3:42Speaker 1: I'm scared all the time. All the time.
- 3:45Speaker 3: This is why I don't want fear to rule my life.
- 3:48Speaker 3: And I really have seen over the years that God
- 3:51Speaker 3: always shows up. He is my strength in my weakness.
- 3:54Speaker 3: And so I just am obedient and say, yes, I'll
- 3:59Speaker 3: do something, whether that's showing up on a stage, whether
- 4:02Speaker 3: that's sharing the gospel with someone, whether it's going on
- 4:04Speaker 3: special forces. I just say yes, because it allows me
- 4:09Speaker 3: to see what God is going to do with a
- 4:11Speaker 3: situation that I'm super fearful about.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Speaking of faith, Candice, I think what's been very interesting
- 4:16Speaker 2: to watch because we've seen a resurgence of faith, especially
- 4:19Speaker 2: with young men in America. You're a mom, you raised
- 4:22Speaker 2: three beautiful kids. Give me your take on where you
- 4:26Speaker 2: think this is going. Do you think that the younger
- 4:28Speaker 2: generation is going to pick this back up?
- 4:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I really do. I mean, I see it in
- 4:32Speaker 3: my own children, which is amazing. One of my sons
- 4:35Speaker 3: is a pastor, part-time, you know, loves the word of God.
- 4:39Speaker 3: And But we do see, we've seen it in colleges,
- 4:42Speaker 3: college campuses everywhere, kids getting baptized and really seeking out
- 4:49Speaker 3: their faith. Because I really believe we're in a time
- 4:51Speaker 3: right now where everything is available to them.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And they're trying everything.
- 4:56Speaker 3: They're seeking out and yet nothing is satisfying.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Absolutely nothing. And so they're kind of going back to
- 5:04Speaker 1: the core of like, what? What has stood the test
- 5:08Speaker 1: of time for generations?
- 5:09Speaker 3: And what is it that people who feel grounded in
- 5:12Speaker 3: the kind of life where I want to focus, I
- 5:14Speaker 3: don't want.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Everything going so, so fast.
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think they're even getting tired of how convenient everything is.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's like they want something different.
- 5:23Speaker 3: You know, it's it's really found in God and in
- 5:27Speaker 3: the heart and the hope that he provides.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 5:30Speaker 2: And I think something meaningful, too.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Whenever it seems like everything feels very empty and transactional.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:37Speaker 2: There's so much meaning in a connection with God. And
- 5:40Speaker 2: I'm wondering from your perspective, do you feel like Hollywood
- 5:43Speaker 2: maybe underestimated the American people's appetite for faith based movies
- 5:48Speaker 2: and shows and really going back to traditional values? Because
- 5:52Speaker 2: I think people are really engaged in that.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Oh, they are.
- 5:55Speaker 3: And numbers have proven it. And cable stations and streaming services,
- 5:59Speaker 3: they've proven it with numbers. I mean, people show up,
- 6:02Speaker 3: even in theaters, they show up for family-friendly films and
- 6:07Speaker 3: films that have core values.
- 6:09Speaker 1: And so, yeah, I think.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Hollywood missed it for a long time, but I think
- 6:13Speaker 3: they realize it now and it's profitable. So they're making it,
- 6:17Speaker 3: which we're grateful for. But You know, it's incredible to
- 6:21Speaker 3: be behind and teaming up with the heart of a
- 6:25Speaker 3: lot of people who have a heart behind it, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 3: doing it for people. not just the profit, but to
- 6:32Speaker 3: put something good out into the world.
- 6:33Speaker 2: With the recent tragic death of Hayden Panettiere, you know,
- 6:36Speaker 2: there's been a conversation about, you know, young actors and
- 6:40Speaker 2: kids in Hollywood. And for you, I know you were
- 6:42Speaker 2: so young whenever you were on all of our TV screens,
- 6:45Speaker 2: you probably didn't get the traditional childhood. I don't know
- 6:49Speaker 2: what your take is on that or really what you
- 6:51Speaker 2: think maybe needs to be done to protect these kids
- 6:54Speaker 2: who are you know, are part of this industry.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 3: You know, there's a lot of us that had great
- 6:59Speaker 3: experiences growing up in Hollywood, really. And I always attribute
- 7:03Speaker 3: that to grounded parents, parents that are, that are seeking
- 7:07Speaker 3: their child's wellbeing and not stardom. I think that is
- 7:11Speaker 3: the start of making the difference. But it's, It's always
- 7:15Speaker 3: about the people you're surrounded with. And it's really easy
- 7:18Speaker 3: to get duped in Hollywood. People, I mean, they're good actors, right?
- 7:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 3: And so they're telling you what you want to hear.
- 7:26Speaker 3: They're promising protection. And then it doesn't always turn out
- 7:28Speaker 3: that way. And so it's important to have trusted people
- 7:32Speaker 3: or be able to listen to people that you may
- 7:36Speaker 3: not know but believe are trusted sources.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Candice, I know the kind of next thing you have
- 7:41Speaker 2: coming up is that you're going to be traveling across
- 7:44Speaker 2: the country. You're going to be kind of on tour.
- 7:45Speaker 2: You're going to be out there meeting people all across America.
- 7:48Speaker 2: What can people expect?
- 7:49Speaker 1: A fun two hours.
- 7:51Speaker 3: It's like a girl's night sharing faith and women's health.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Okay.
- 7:56Speaker 2: And.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Some nostalgia too, but this is just, it's geared towards
- 8:00Speaker 3: women and I'm kind of, it's kind of like taking
- 8:02Speaker 3: my podcast on the road.
- 8:04Speaker 2: What about future plans? I feel like you keep yourself busy.
- 8:08Speaker 2: It feels like you're nonstop, but what else is coming
- 8:10Speaker 2: up for you? Anything?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I have a couple of Christmas movies coming out this
- 8:14Speaker 3: year on great American family channel. And I have another
- 8:18Speaker 3: mystery movies. I have a mystery series and a podcast
- 8:22Speaker 3: that talks all about a biblical worldview and faith and.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And I have grandkids on the way. That's the biggest,
- 8:29Speaker 1: most exciting thing in the world. That's awesome. When does
- 8:32Speaker 1: that happen? In just a few months.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Okay, fantastic. Well, you've been so generous with your time.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Thank you so much. We can't wait to see how
- 8:40Speaker 2: you do on Special Forces. And thanks so much for
- 8:44Speaker 2: spending time with us, Candice.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Thank you so much.
