- 0:48[SPEAKER_02]: Hey everybody, Brian Smith here with the IM team series and your daily influence and today I am joined by Tony Holland and Tony has one of those stories where it would be very easy to focus on success.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: Tony grew up from humble beginnings in Brunswick, Maryland, earned an academic scholarship to Johns Hopkins and graduated pre-med.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: His path after college,
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: wasn't exactly a straight line as who's is, you know, but at one point he found himself living out of a van, bartending and waiting tables before, an unexpected introduction to the insurance industry, changed his trajectory to his life.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, Tony went on become a highly successful producer and entrepreneur in
- 1:37[SPEAKER_02]: The insurance industry and he co-founded global premiere benefits with his wife Kathy and today serves as its CEO and as a managing partner with integrity, his journey has also expanded into investments and other business interest.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_02]: But really what interested me most about Tony for you here on the daily influence isn't that his story in his story that he's achieved financial and, you know, career success, it's what he has chosen to do with that success.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: Tony has spent years coaching and mentoring young people, developing others in business and investing in his community.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_02]: He talks about success in terms of contribution and I think that creates an amazingly important conversation about the influence each of us has and what we choose to do with it.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: So Tony, welcome to Daily Influence.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well Brian, fresh pleasure to being here.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's truly an honor.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, you're welcome.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, I'm excited to have you on as we were talking before we started there are these
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: coincidences, there's a serendipity in our guests, and I always come out in the pre-recording of our podcast, and it didn't surprise me, but it was really enlightening and really a positive conversation.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_02]: And as we start, before all a success, I want to go back to Brunswick and John Hopkins, living out of a band and eventually making that unexpected move to insurance.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_02]: What did those experiences teach you about yourself?
- 3:25[SPEAKER_02]: And when did you begin to recognize that your circumstances didn't have to determine where your life was going?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, as you shared, I grew up in a very humble upbringing.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: It was a single parent household.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: My mom was a teenage mom.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: She had me out of wedlock.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: didn't know my real father until many, many years later, met a fact that it'll be our tenure anniversary that I met my real father as a whole story behind that.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty unique, it'll be in the book.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: But it was very challenging, Brian.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: And she married a man that was,
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: an alcoholic, a raging alcoholic when I was about three years old.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't last long sheet of words, so many beatings and abuse and it was, it was, I saw a lot of four six years old and most people have ever experienced in their life.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_01]: But a lot of time, um, uh,
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, you know, I was thinking about that this morning, that I spent a lot of time crying as a kid.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: I spent a lot of time hurting as a kid.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the good Lord have been blessed that I was guided into a better direction.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: And that was the one thing, even though my mom, um,
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: As some very challenging moments, I believe she did the best she could with what she had.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: One thing she did, I would thank her for this.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: I said this was another show.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_01]: At least kept me involved in the church.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: We read the Bible and she, you know, we went to Catholic Mass in the morning on Sunday, then back this later, the afternoon.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: So we were always involved in the church.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: I thank her for that, but it was a very, very tough time growing up.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: And something I look back on those times, Brian, those really hard times in bronze and can the struggles and the pain and the abuse.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, there is a light at the end of that tunnel.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I go back to the story of Joseph.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: Joseph was put to the pit by his own brothers.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: But that whole challenge that he had to deal with, he went through all kinds of adversity, was sold into slavery.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: He was betrayed by his friend when he was put in prison for something.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't even do.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: Was it prison for 14 years?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, he used as something that he didn't do.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_01]: and got betrayed by a friend.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: Ultimately, all those adversities put Joseph to become the prime minister of Egypt.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: He was a second man in charge and Egypt at that time was the most powerful nation in the world.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I look back, my story kind of resembles that.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: All those adversities and challenges as he can't put me to where I am today.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, hopefully that answered your question there, sir, that the adversity actually molded me to who I am today.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm actually grateful for me those hardships.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that does answer the question.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_02]: And I think what I hear you say is that you have to lead into those adversities and pull out of them.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_02]: anything positive that you can apply to build yourself and help you to be the most positive in in responsible person in your area of influence going forward, which is exactly what you've done.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's like working out in the gym, Brian.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's over time you build the muscle over time you get in shape and through that process it's painful sometimes.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know your muscles are sore T3 days later.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes you're back H&D, A's, but it's all part of getting that shape.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: So there's going to be some hardships in terms of growth.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's harder growing.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: It's how your muscles grow.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I think about it a lot, Ryan, that you get blessed through the adversities.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: That's where the blessing comes.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: And something else I shared, Brian, I said, if it was easy, everyone would be over the doing.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: I think most people, like myself in my earlier days, I thought those adversities were a curse.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: I thought those adversities were woes me moments and why I just have to happen and me.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: I look back on it now and I'm thankful for that because it was promoted me to the next level.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_01]: And birthdays are about the promotion.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I couldn't agree more.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, as you work through them and as you did work through them, you achieved financial success pretty quickly.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_02]: Especially once you found opportunity, it appears to me that you were able to identify opportunity and move towards it very quickly.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: My question about that is, was there a difference between the moment you realized you could become successful and the moment you understood what you wanted that success to mean?
- 7:59[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I knew it probably in high school, the life all went on.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was very competitive.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I have such a deep appreciation for sports.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: I thank God for those high school football coaches and track coaches and the school teachers that poured into me.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: I realized it was very good when I put my mind as something, whether it was true.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_01]: track, whether it was football, and I wouldn't have fasted, and I wouldn't have taken this kid.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't have thrown this kid.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_01]: But I knew if I put my mind to something, and I was focused, intently, intensely, on that specific goalwork target or sport, I was pretty darn good at it.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I was not a fast kid, but I worked pretty hard and I got really good and tried to go figure.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: I was a slowest kid, but I worked hard and I got good at it.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_01]: One simple state championships, got a lot of state medals.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: When the biggest got five foot eight, you know, 170 pounds in high school, but I was a pretty good football player.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and getting real well made all counting.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: It was like, so, I
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: that taught me at an early age, being that competitive spirit and working hard for a goal and having mentors and coaches made a huge difference for me.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: And so I just evident that into the business world, that's all I did right.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: So I tell a lot of people when I give my speeches that sports and business go hand in hand.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: You know, to be a great team and you need to have a great coach, you've got to have a great GM, you have to have a game plan, you've got to have play, you've got to practice, you've got to work hard, you've got to deal with adversities, you've got to deal with some bad calls, sometimes that happens, things come out of the blue that you'd expect, you know, there's going to be a fumble, there's going to be an interception.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: That happens in business and also happens in our lives.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I use a lot of that that I learned in high school being competitive at sports to help me in business in my life.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_02]: Some of the things that I saw when I was reading about reading out before we have this conversation is you talked.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: about success ultimately being about contribution, which is where this came from in our discussion.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_02]: Was there a particular experience or a moment when success stopped being primarily about what you Tony Hall and could accomplish and started becoming about what you could do for other people?
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: Great question, Brian.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_01]: Awesome.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Because I was at a point in time that first couple of years in the insurance business, that was the first person my family to make over a hundred thousand dollars.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: And Carter, that I was living out of a van, as you just said earlier, I was struggling, I was frustrated, I was angry, like how this happened?
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: It me, I had a hop-configured, I'm living out of my van with that.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: I work in that libertories, I'm eating off people's plates, and like I couldn't get any lower.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I got into the insurance business, and man, I was going to fire, I brought back that competitive spirit of head back in high school, and I went after Brian.
- 11:04[SPEAKER_01]: I was the first person to make over 100,000.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_01]: I met a fact made a hundred and twenty four thousand dollars at first year, and I was at nineteen ninety four.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was a lot of money back then, finished at number one rookie in the country in the top ten overall nationwide.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_01]: It was all about me, all about me.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: about, they had a magazine, came out once a month, it's called the spotlight, my name was always in my picture.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_01]: All the awards, a month of your awards, they used to have a weekly call out.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: My name was always clay, it was all about Tony.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: All about me.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Me, me, me, Tony, Tony, Tony, Tony, it's all about Tony.
- 11:38[SPEAKER_01]: My ego was inflated.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it wasn't until my second year in the business that I was selling in a policy in a client's house in Western Maryland, in a town called Mount Aire, off a lake Lingenor, and I was presenting to the family.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: They kept saying, no, they didn't want the program I was presenting.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_01]: And there were any unions who were union insurance.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, well, there was a strike in layoff where we were worried about getting laid off.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: And their jobs, if you get laid off, you don't strike.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: We actually wave the premium.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the, I guess the,
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: the the pre-support of the pre-support of the pre-support of the pre-supportation it got the excited to move forth with him rolling to the policy.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_01]: And then I said, let's do a child writer.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: So they debated that at first and finally talking to the child writer, the other kids were covered.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm so sure, I left that house out, collected a commission.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't check.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was already count my commissions.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: How much money I have made.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to be on the
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: played with a kid in the driveway, took it back, you know, took it to the office, next week got my commissions.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_01]: Went on about my business, like no more cocky excited Tony, living in glory, brand new sports cars, just living in the dream world, free months later, I got a call from that labor you didn't present, there was an accident on late, little, little, little, little, three kids died, they drowned.
- 13:02[SPEAKER_01]: One was that kid in a parking lot.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: for the money, that was a pivotal moment in my life.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Stop doing it for the car, stop doing it for the clothes, my name and the paper, I started realizing there's real people out there behind what I was selling that lives would be in change.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_01]: I started my thinking change.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_01]: It wouldn't about the money.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: It was about changing, saving people's lives.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: It was a critical thing that I was doing.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_01]: I wasn't selling a luxury island.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_01]: I was selling a necessity.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's sort of looking myself for the mirror and realize, what do I want to be and what do I want to become?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: How do I want to represent myself?
- 13:50[SPEAKER_01]: And that was the moment it changes.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's strange to say, bro, I've made more money after my thought process changed.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_01]: Another amazing.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: And then I got into coaching sports.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll tell you something.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a leader out there, you're an entrepreneur.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to transform your leadership skills, go coaching you sport.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_01]: Whether it's a track, football, baseball, basketball, tennis, you name it sport.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to improve your leadership skills, try working with kids out there that have different thinking from different backgrounds and don't have to be there.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: They're not like employees, employees are there for the paycheck and the benefits.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: Those kids are there for the love of that sport.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: And you have to be there.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: They guide them in coaching and develop them to be successful.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a long answer to your question.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: But that moment with that kid that drown and then getting into coaching sports is really when I start a few of my studies.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: being a man of servitude, being a man that gives back.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like I say a lot now, people say, what do you do all this?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's phenomenal around the country.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: You don't want to speak you here, and I don't pay to do the lot of things I do.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, why do you do it?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I just want to pour into this next generation.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: I see what's going on.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: What was done to me in the public school system.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I see it done now, the young people.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: The mindset.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_01]: I truly believe it's the way we think, successes about the way you think and what I want to do is counter this adverse way of thinking, this this corrupt way of thinking, this negative way of thinking that the world is putting out.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to show young people that the way you think, because I have to say whatever you think about, whatever you speak about, Brian, you bring about in your life.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: That's true.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_02]: I believe that manifestation happens organically with the rest of us, and you know, was a good answer, Tony, and how did the realization change the way you lead people and ultimately change the kind of organization and culture that you want to build?
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: But I always have to say, when I coached a coach with love,
- 16:06[SPEAKER_01]: When I sold, when I got my head right selling the right way, selling for the right reason, not the money and the commissions and the fame, the plan.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: As I sold with love, a coach with love, I sold with love, and I believe you got to leave with love.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: People need to know, and your business and your organization, whether it's a church, or you're running a restaurant that people that work in your leadership, though that you love them, that you care more about their success than your own.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that's something that I can assure you to my success people do I love them.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_01]: People, those kids that came to play for me, Brian.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_01]: I can't from all, oh, I can't come from two, three states away to one to play.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: This mayor is kind of a small state.
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't from Pennsylvania, Virginia, D.C., I mean, they would drive two hours to come if they don't like to eat.
- 17:00[SPEAKER_01]: Because they knew I loved them.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_01]: We're got out.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: You can play for that, you go on places.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm proud to say, Brian, at 30 kids, go off and play ball in college with scholarship.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that was one of my, that was probably the one of the most amazing companies I ever had, not the trophies, not culturally year and all that other stuff was seeing those kids go off to great schools and changed their lives and being an example of success, being an example of excellence.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_01]: That was my grade school and that's the way I, that's why I leave no organizations.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've got people have to say, why do you do all you do for me?
- 17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like, because I love you, I want you to do better than me.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a sign in great coaching and great leadership.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_01]: You want the people underneath you that work with you.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't say, I don't work with you to do better than you.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: That's a good explanation, and it also Tony gives me a really good segue into my last intentional question, which is all about today your influence extends well beyond your own career, you lead and develop business people, you've spent years coaching and mentoring young athletes, you invest in businesses, and in the communities that those businesses are in and you've
- 18:16[SPEAKER_02]: created opportunities for a lot of people.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_02]: As your ability to influence others continues to grow, how do you see your sense of responsibility for that influence changing?
- 18:30[SPEAKER_02]: And what are you intentionally trying to build in the individual people coming up behind you?
- 18:36[SPEAKER_01]: As you've seen in my life story, I do have a book coming out hopefully soon.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: And people are like, wow, I can't believe you did that.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: I can't, I got guys from my high school and cause we were remember when you were at the bottom, now you own your minority owner, the Baltimore Oreos, I'm like, yeah, and I'm like the answer your question brought, I want that for everybody, but I don't want everyone to live their dream.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_01]: If there's greatest within you and going back to our last
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: in the people, I learned this from Zakes, they've heard of the great Zakes, they've heard you can have everything in life if you want, if you want to help enough other people keep with faith in one.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to see other people, she and their goal journey is whether it's being a great coach, a great business leader, a great mom, a great father.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: I talk about that a lot too.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think we need more great moms and dads out there that poor into their kids.
- 19:42[SPEAKER_01]: So the message, I don't want to leave into them is you can do it too.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: You can have great kids.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: You can spend all you can have a great business career, great family life, great personal life, you can still be in shape.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_01]: I want to pass on to people, lead into people that message you didn't do it too.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has greatness in them, Brian,
- 20:05[SPEAKER_02]: If more of us had that goal, we would have a better world.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: We're in a world right now, Brian.
- 20:11[SPEAKER_01]: It more people are tearing people down instead of building people love.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like I talk about trollers.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: I was in Dallas.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: They gave me a question there.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: I was doing a kind of a similar workshop with this in my company and integrity in Dallas.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_01]: And we talk, I've mentioned trollers.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's the trollers.
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: It really people are looking into the mirror every day.
- 20:31[SPEAKER_01]: And they ache themselves.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: No one scored goodness in the men.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_01]: So, nor they're doing their caring other people down.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_01]: Troters care people down that make them self look good.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: Well, great people, people that pouring, people like yourself, Brian, and your friend, Russ, did you spoke about earlier?
- 20:50[SPEAKER_01]: We feel people up to make our self better.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: I love throwing into people and build them up.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: And so I tell people in the country, dealing with negative people and trolls, they're just hurting people.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: I've learned this hurting people, hurt people.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: They don't like themselves.
- 21:06[SPEAKER_01]: They hate their lives.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to change that and help build people up.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And build a better world to combat the negativity and the trolling and the garbage is out there in the world.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: Just build more people up.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, let's do that.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Tony, what do you hope
- 21:25[SPEAKER_02]: people, just even just one young person, business person, when they look back 20 years from now, what do you hope they remember about Tony Holland?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_02]: Not the business mentor entrepreneur, but the person who influenced them.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I can't, but I loved a good and positive intention.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I want to support that's for people.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: And even when I got a tough one, it's not that big.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Because I tell my guy, I want to shoot on you.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: Coach Tony's chewing on you for a reason because you go in the wrong direction.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_01]: We need to go this direction, okay?
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: So whether you're an employee or whether you're an associate or whether you're a kid, I'm coaching.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: When Coach Tony chews on his cousin, loves you.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: The mommy and daddy didn't chew on us because they hated us, they chewed on us.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, chewing like discipline, and getting on you and coaching you up is because they loved you.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: So I want people to know that I cared and ultimately that I loved.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I loved them.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: I think more people Brian are starving, right?
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Our society is starving for genuine care and love.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's not enough of that, our society.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Not enough.
- 22:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, there are not enough genuine influencers in the world today.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of influencers who are self-serving, but not a lot of new influencers in the world today.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the answer to question earlier, one of the other things I want to accomplish.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: and a very dark and challenging market.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be different.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: I see that, Brian.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_01]: I was a big anti-social media guy for about two years ago.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: And people like Jeff Johnson and Burke Allen, my P.O.R.T.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: and others in the world, like you've got a message in it.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: You can't, you can't.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: What are you doing?
- 23:18[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't want to be on that.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to be them because 90% of that stuff on social media, Instagram, but it's garbage.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: I've researched some of those people.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're not even successful people, given people advice.
- 23:31[SPEAKER_01]: And it's sad to see it that there's so much garbage out there.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to be that shining light, Brian, and that dark world, I do.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_01]: And that's why I got into this industry, even though I
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: don't like it at times, but I got it to counter the garbage out through this going on in the social media world.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Tony, I feel the same way.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_02]: I think as I shared with you, this is somewhere in the low to mid-800th, 800th episode of Daily Influence.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I have been social mediaverse and have
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: to the market in 2018.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_02]: I had to cross over into that world and I had to like you learn so much about how that influencer world was negatively and irresponsibly influencing our world, which is why we wrote our books the way we did finding beam and building
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: positive and responsible influence.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you look at an example, recently, it was on the news a couple of weeks ago about that guy, Andrew Tate, where the elected guy, and I, he made a huge influence.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the guy was most, most, most talked about people in the planet at one time.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he got himself in some trouble, a lot of trouble.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: And come to find out his lawyers just last week, we can have to go admit it, all that stuff was fake.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_01]: The planes were fake, the cars were fake, the houses were fake, it was all fake.
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's all part of the show, and it's sad, because he influenced millions of men out there, and it was all garbage.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was all all out, unfortunately.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_01]: And that's, you see a lot of that out there, and, um,
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: like yourself, Brian, I want to make that positive impact and show people the truth in terms of success, the truth in terms of building games, the truth in terms of developing young people.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: The true life story of what a real influence is all about.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: Those men and women out there that are coaching and teaching and pouring end to people that don't get recognized and not all over social media, those are the real heroes, those are the real champions.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: I want to embrace and
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: the real influences in our world, but you don't hear about us.
- 25:54[SPEAKER_02]: Nope, but hopefully, through people like us, they will.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_02]: Tony, I like to give our guests the final word before I close us out.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_02]: So for somebody listening today, who might still be struggling still trying to find their all opportunity.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: perhaps looking at where they are today and wondering whether they can really change their own trajectory or the trajectory of those they influence in their lives.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_02]: What would you want them to hear from you?
- 26:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, there's four things I would address or not.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_01]: And if that caught the Tony's dead, it's success.
- 26:33[SPEAKER_01]: Number one, you gotta keep God first.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_01]: Not here to be an evangelist, but you gotta have God in your life.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm gonna tell you that's, well, that was probably the number one trait.
- 26:43[SPEAKER_01]: I possessed all that God, my life.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: Now saying I was perfect, there was some ups and downs and challenges, but God carried me three, got to have.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_01]: a good strong spiritual foundation.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: Number two, you have to have the right attitude.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, where are you pursuing Lyon?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_01]: There's going to be challenges.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: You have to have a pause of outlook in Lyon.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So I have to work on that the most Brian.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to tell you, you have you have to invest into your mindset and come to what you're reading, what you're listening to.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: big believer in seminars and workshops, wherever profession you choose to get into, there are workshops, there are webinars you need to be involved and be around other people achieve a success, because I believe Aaron will sharpen iron.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: The third principle you got to work like sink, Brian.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: I got that from R at Williams.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: Grand Code, John and Georgia, work like sink.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: You got to have strong work ethic, okay?
- 27:37[SPEAKER_01]: Nothing good, it won't come easy.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_01]: I just, something was a man, looking at all the success you have, you're such a success at the overnight success, you have a 32 year overnight success.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_01]: Not a two years, 13 years of work at 80, 90 hours a week.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like, people don't get, I still grind the day, Brian.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_01]: I was in three cities last week working, okay.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm all over, I'm all over the country talking and worked on workshop.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to be in Virginia this week.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going back out to Chicago.
- 28:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I was in Dallas last week, I was in Vegas last week, I was in DC.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you got to have you on work ethic at number three for your audience, they have to master the skill set.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: I just say this in the old days, I want to be the Michael Jordan of whatever I do.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: You have to be skilled at your profession, whether it's speaking, whether it's coaching, whether it's teaching, whether it's mathematics, whether it's entrepreneurship, whatever profession you choose, you have to master the critical skill set.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: Just like in football, it's all about blocking, it's a lot about tackling.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think that our listeners will appreciate that final word.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: So,
- 28:45[SPEAKER_02]: Look, Tony, thank you so much.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_02]: I so appreciate your story, but perhaps even more importantly, I appreciate what you've chosen to do with you, your life, and your influence.
- 29:01[SPEAKER_02]: One of the things I hope everyone takes away from our conversation today is that achievement and influence aren't necessarily the same thing.
- 29:14[SPEAKER_02]: Business is income investments awards or any number of other things, but influence becomes something different when we recognize that what we've learned what we've overcome and what we have been fortunate up to build can create opportunity for somebody else and that's when success begins to become contribution and
- 29:39[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need Tony's business success resources or platform to do that.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_02]: You don't need mine to do that.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_02]: You're already influencing people in your business and your family and your communities and through the seemingly small interactions that you already have every day.
- 29:57[SPEAKER_02]: The question isn't whether you have influence.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_02]: The question is what you're going to do with your influence.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: be that influence and that builds your influence.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: Tony, thank you so much for joining me on the I am team series and daily influence and I hope everybody has an amazing day.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
