- 0:00US tech metal legends Rivers of Nile will be in Australia in just a short
- 0:03time, supporting NAIs and The Ocean Collective in a runn of dates starting on
- 0:09September six in Brisbane. So to find out just what you expect, we
- 0:13spoke with Adam Beaks. I'm Adam Biggs from Rivers of Nile and starting very
- 0:23soon we're going on our tour with Naive, Oliviscaris and the Ocean Collective over
- 0:29there in Australia. We got four shows and Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and
- 0:37Sydney of course Sydney. Oh good, big one. Yeah, it's been
- 0:45it's been a it's been a great a week. It's already Monday. But
- 0:52yeah, very excited for that. It's gonna be it's gonna be a batch
- 0:56of great shows. And yeah, we're very excited to come back Australia.
- 1:00Very good Maye. Thanks for joining us today, Adam, Oh, no,
- 1:03no problem, problem so as you say. And I'll return to Australia
- 1:07for a run of shows with the I'll Believe a scarus at the Ocean Collective,
- 1:11kicking off the tour in Brisbane on September six, before traveling through Sydney
- 1:15and Melbourne, finishing in Adelaide on September ten, Like four shows in five
- 1:19days. Made it's going to be a rough track fire, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:25it is how it is always always just keep trucking through the through the
- 1:30shows and that's that's that's the job. It'll be. It'll be being an
- 1:36awesome flive days, I'm sure. Yeah. And the tour is mainly to
- 1:40celebrate Naval Oliver Scarus's new album Excel and touring over four years. So do
- 1:47you think they're going to go out there with the point to prove after being
- 1:49away for so long, Like four years away from your home crowd is a
- 1:51bit, it's pretty long. Yeah, I mean hopefully, yeah, hopefully
- 1:55they they come out with us, you know, out there some motivation and
- 2:00and uh you know, you know some will to kick some ass like you
- 2:04know, I'm sure because I'm sure we will as well. It's been it's
- 2:07been a little while for us too. And yeah, it's I want to
- 2:12see everybody really motivated on these shows too. Give give the crowd the best,
- 2:19the best taken. And so you guys also toured with a scar Us
- 2:24on your first visit to Australia back in twenty nineteen. So what do they
- 2:29like to be on the road with? You guys obviously get on pretty well.
- 2:32Yeah, yeah, we uh, we had a great time with those
- 2:36guys last time we were out and they you know, they treated us really
- 2:39well and and we've we've kept in in you know, good contact over the
- 2:46years since then, and so when they asked us to come back down and
- 2:51it was pretty much a no brainer because we knew, you know, we
- 2:55know they're they're great guys and easy to tour with and we had the show
- 3:00as a rule. So yeah, then there's the Ocean Collective. Man,
- 3:06have you taught with them before? Never very excited to do that for the
- 3:12first time. I think we played one show with them in Austin, Texas
- 3:17like years and years ago. But they've they've always been a big, a
- 3:24big band on our hearts, like we love that band, and so when
- 3:30we heard they were part of the the package, that was also another thing
- 3:34that was like, yeah, that's definitely let's definitely do this. That sounds
- 3:37like a great show and we get to see those guy guys play, which
- 3:39is awesome. Ah life, you've got loosely, you've got a progressive metal
- 3:45band, there's a Czech metal band, and then there's more of a post
- 3:47metal band share in stage. Like it's an interesting mix of genres when you
- 3:52put them all together. Like how important is it to have that variety of
- 3:54bands Bland, I guess instead of everyone just out of the same after each
- 3:58other. I mean, I think it's uh, you know, I think
- 4:05it's for me at least, it's great to have a variety a different different
- 4:11flavors because you know, I've been to shows where it's you know, it's
- 4:15very consistent stylistically across you know, an entire show, and it you know
- 4:20it for me, it kind of drags something it can I think there's a
- 4:26What's what's important is that you know that all the bands have a you know,
- 4:30similar ethic, and I think that that's true for this store package.
- 4:34It's like we all have a different take on a you know, heavy rock
- 4:39music with progressive influences and at all. But you know, each band comes
- 4:45out with something that doesn't sound close to the other one, which is really
- 4:49interesting and cool. It'd be you know, a good mix. I think
- 4:56for that's not familiar with the band might describe a typical Rivers live show,
- 5:00if there's such a thing. Uh, well, uh, it's I think
- 5:03it's I think it varies from from tour to tour typical typical, and you
- 5:09know, I we try to avoid typical, Like we tried to always come
- 5:15out and play you know, played different, you know, like give a
- 5:20different vibe from from everybody else that's on whatever tour we're on. We like
- 5:27to try and try and stand out a little bit and subvert expectations. So
- 5:33it's it's you never know what the set list is going to, what's gonna
- 5:39happen, you know, from song to song, try and uh, you
- 5:45know, it's trying to surprise everyone with what's gonna happen next. You've also
- 5:49released an album recently yourself called The Work, So how much of that were
- 5:53you going to be playing? I think yeah, I think we're gonna have
- 5:56a you know, a decent amount of cuts from that record because last time
- 6:01we just put out the record before the Work, so you know, it'll
- 6:06be a good chance to revisit some old material down in Australia but also expose
- 6:14Australians to the new stuff live. So we're not gonna waste that opportunity,
- 6:20and since then you've also related a single to Suborbital Blues. Is that a
- 6:25standalone single or is this that of a new album cycle? Uh? Yeah,
- 6:30it's uh, it's it's kind of both. It's uh, for now,
- 6:33it's just it's just floating out there in the ether. It so here's
- 6:36a song to listen to. But uh, while we while we kind of
- 6:42adjust and to some of the recent changes the bands undergone, we wanted to
- 6:46show everybody that you know, we this is this is still you know,
- 6:51this is still viable thing and we have the ability to put out new music
- 6:56and have a kick ass. So that's you know, but will it be
- 7:00part of the extra record? I'm going to say probably yeah. Is that
- 7:06but indication of the direction the song is going to take music way? It's
- 7:11a yeah, it's yes. No, I mean yeah, I think it's
- 7:16it's hard to always be like for for us, it's a you know,
- 7:20we we like to have a lot of variety in in not just between each
- 7:27record, but within the record itself. Is you know, like the work
- 7:30was definitely like for track, the track, you were you didn't know what
- 7:34what was gonna happen, And I think that that's kind of a kind of
- 7:39a vibe that will be will be exploring. I think so far, you
- 7:43know the song what we have for a new record, it's all it is
- 7:47very oh, it's all. It's it takes you. It's a big journey
- 7:53and sonically and I think, you know, suborbital is a is it good
- 7:59in cater But also it doesn't even show it's just the tip of the iceberg,
- 8:05Like, we have a lot more to show now. This tour finishes
- 8:07up on September the tenth, though, what's next for Rivers and Nile after
- 8:11that? What's next is uh so we'll have this this tour in Australia and
- 8:18then we have a little bit of time off and then we have a European
- 8:22tour with Laurena Shore coming up and at the end of the year. So
- 8:31that and that's like selling out rooms like crazy and in all kinds of venue
- 8:35upgrades, which is awesome. So we have that to look forward to.
- 8:39And then after that, yeah, I'd like to get get more music into
- 8:46people's ears, get you know, get a new disc out perhaps, but
- 8:50yeah, let's say her taking everything one step at a time here probably let
- 8:56you go, my We're starting up three new Spotify lists through heavy just by
- 9:00on artists that we speak to you. So you're thinking your own songs,
- 9:03Can you give us one song to get the party started. One song could
- 9:07potentially save your marriage, and one song that could potentially end your marriage.
- 9:13Okay, that's I think party starter. I'm gonna have to go with the
- 9:18suborbital blues for that new The new track, I think that's a pretty good
- 9:22party starter. Ye save save your marriage song is uh. I've got a
- 9:35song called maybe one Day from the work which is this is a kind of
- 9:41sweet little ballad and uh. And then actually the track directly before it is
- 9:48a marriage ender call. It's called Episode. I shall add those to the
- 9:56playlist today for you, mate. So thanks very much for your time.
- 10:00That I had him has been a pleasure speaking. You're in Australia from you're
- 10:05saying likewise. September the sixth, the tour kicks off through Sydney, Melbourne,
- 10:09Adelaide and Brisban, so we'll see you over here then, yes,
- 10:13sir, take care made, thanks you're time. Thank you very much.
- 10:20Yeah, no problem. I have a good one. Brother,
