- 0:51Speaker 1: But you see, the first case of the week was
- 0:54Speaker 1: merely a warm up, meant to ease you into the
- 0:57Speaker 1: strange and into the paranormal. Today, your hosts have something
- 1:03Speaker 1: a little more spooky, as you may call it, I,
- 1:08Speaker 1: for one, would instead call it down right evil, but
- 1:14Speaker 1: I will leave it to you to decide what you
- 1:16Speaker 1: want to call it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I will be your master of.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Ceremonies for this week. My name is Jacko, and if
- 1:26Speaker 1: you may allow me to introduce you to your guides
- 1:30Speaker 1: during this fourth annual Halloween Week.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Here they are.
- 1:34Speaker 1: You're ever so illustrious hosts of Wicked and Grim Ben and.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Nicole ding Dang, he does it again every time.
- 1:49Speaker 3: It's chills, every single fucking time.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I have to also say it's funny.
- 1:55Speaker 2: I kind of forgot. I don't know why, just like
- 1:57Speaker 2: internalize this, but Spooky sees it already getting to me.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I think the vampire shit's getting to me. Oh wise,
- 2:04Speaker 2: we also watched some sort of a movie too, right
- 2:07Speaker 2: that there was like vampires.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Recently interview with vampire.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Oh that's such an easy title. I would remember that.
- 2:13Speaker 2: But I was drinking like hibiscus tea and I had
- 2:17Speaker 2: the tea bag and the bowl like because I had
- 2:19Speaker 2: taken it out of my water, and it looks like
- 2:22Speaker 2: very red, like the liquids in there, like kind of bloody.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And I was like, but I would never have thought that,
- 2:29Speaker 2: probably before all this vampire shit talk.
- 2:32Speaker 3: And it's just getting started, just getting started. I mean,
- 2:36Speaker 3: I'm not gonna say specifically about vampires, but the whole
- 2:39Speaker 3: thing just in general with the spooky season. The goose,
- 2:42Speaker 3: the goose, like the ghosts, the ghosts and ghoules, and
- 2:45Speaker 3: I mean in Canada, honestly, gooses are pretty scary.
- 2:49Speaker 2: So well, they're all flying. They're flying south right now.
- 2:53Speaker 2: They are. They're flying away from us because they're like, shit,
- 2:56Speaker 2: we're not doing that.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Yeah, it's too fucking cold.
- 2:59Speaker 2: I wish I was. I'm flying with them, to be.
- 3:01Speaker 3: Honest, wouldn't that be amazing to just fucking peace out
- 3:05Speaker 3: whenever you wanted to?
- 3:07Speaker 2: Well, yeah, when it's like okay, like this is getting
- 3:10Speaker 2: a bit chilly, like I'm done with this. No, I mean,
- 3:12Speaker 2: just whenever you want, well, they don't whenever, they just
- 3:15Speaker 2: go when they the cold weather's coming.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Now, whenever the fuck they want to, They're like, no,
- 3:21Speaker 3: it's too cold them out.
- 3:22Speaker 2: I actually feel like it's a bit late, Like I'm
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'm almost feeling like they should have already left.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Oh a lot have there still are some going, but
- 3:30Speaker 3: majority ors have gone.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Well, I'm just like, hurry up.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:34Speaker 3: We also have a lot going on this week outside
- 3:36Speaker 3: of Halloween week. We're even moving because if you don't know,
- 3:38Speaker 3: we live in a tiny home and we're moving our
- 3:40Speaker 3: tiny home this week to a new spot. So we've
- 3:43Speaker 3: got a lot packing, a lot of packing up, and
- 3:46Speaker 3: just a lot of moving stuff in general going on
- 3:48Speaker 3: during this whole seven days of spookiness, because.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Who the fuck decides to move? Well, it's Halloween week,
- 3:56Speaker 2: apparently us Apparently. I just so question and so often,
- 4:01Speaker 2: like what are we doing with our life? I know it,
- 4:04Speaker 2: I know it just kind of worked out that way.
- 4:06Speaker 3: So yeah, fair enough. I can tell you one thing
- 4:09Speaker 3: that we did decide to do with our life, and
- 4:11Speaker 3: it was a super cool photo shoot that was posted
- 4:14Speaker 3: today and you guys, have you're loving it?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Lastly, I know, I wonder if it's a fan favorite, right,
- 4:20Speaker 2: that's a good question.
- 4:22Speaker 1: I know.
- 4:23Speaker 2: I'm curious, which because what have we done? We've done
- 4:26Speaker 2: We've kind of gone all over this. We have the Pumpkin,
- 4:28Speaker 2: the ghosts. We did like what was that like? We
- 4:31Speaker 2: looked kind of dead dish.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah, we did like skull makeup, and then then we
- 4:36Speaker 3: just like dressed up in like black and stuff.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Yeah. And then yeah, we did the zombie thing and
- 4:42Speaker 2: then now this.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Yeah, now the skeleton onesies. This was certainly the most
- 4:47Speaker 3: comfortable of the costumes.
- 4:48Speaker 2: You know. I did really like the ghosts one though too.
- 4:51Speaker 2: That was pretty fun but and it wasn't uncomfortable, but
- 4:53Speaker 2: you couldn't see shit.
- 4:54Speaker 3: So yeah, and that year we did the pumpkins and
- 4:58Speaker 3: the ghosts. Yeah, we did like two in one.
- 5:00Speaker 2: I know, we screwed that up.
- 5:01Speaker 3: We did.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Now we're going to run out of ideas.
- 5:04Speaker 3: No, trust me, Well we'll get it going, we'll.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Figure, there's always going to be something, just like the cases,
- 5:11Speaker 3: there's always going to be a case at hand, And
- 5:13Speaker 3: today is one that has been on my radar for
- 5:16Speaker 3: a while, not necessarily for like the podcast by any means.
- 5:20Speaker 3: But this is a haunted location that I've always been
- 5:25Speaker 3: intrigued by. It's kind of like a bucket list item
- 5:28Speaker 3: to travel to. I don't know if I would ever
- 5:30Speaker 3: stay there.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Oh, you can actually stay at this place.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Oh you can. This is an inn.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Oh okay, so you would go there, But so you
- 5:39Speaker 2: happily go in, but you're just not sure you would
- 5:41Speaker 2: stay over correct. Okay, So.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I'm wondering what you guys would do if you would
- 5:47Speaker 3: stay at this place. Let us know, let us know
- 5:51Speaker 3: if you would even go there. I'm curious, and Nicole
- 5:53Speaker 3: at the end of this, you got to let us
- 5:54Speaker 3: know your thoughts too, if you would stay, if you
- 5:56Speaker 3: had crossed the threshold of that door, or what you
- 5:59Speaker 3: would do.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Okay, Well, I have stayed in a haunted place before
- 6:02Speaker 2: in Barkerville. True, but like it's haunted, but I don't know.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The stories don't seem terrible. So I'll listen to this
- 6:09Speaker 2: and see what I think.
- 6:10Speaker 3: This is certainly more haunted than the Barkerville place.
- 6:14Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Well, this place is known as the Ancient ram Inn.
- 6:20Speaker 3: Huh okay, okay, So this inn is a significant historical
- 6:24Speaker 3: building located in Wooten under Edge, which is a market
- 6:28Speaker 3: town in the Stroud district of Glutenshire, England. I really
- 6:32Speaker 3: hope I said that right. Gloucestonshire. Maybe is how he
- 6:35Speaker 3: actually say that?
- 6:36Speaker 2: That sounds better?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Yeah, Gloucestershire, England. It is also one of England's most
- 6:42Speaker 3: haunted locations and it is an infamous paranormal hotspot.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Oh man, Okay, Yeah.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So the inn aptly named the Ancient Ram is exactly that.
- 6:56Speaker 3: It is ancient. It's an eight hundred year old Grade
- 7:00Speaker 3: to historical building built of stacked stones and supporting wood beams.
- 7:05Speaker 3: It boths small rooms with narrow hallways and small steps
- 7:09Speaker 3: and fireplaces throughout. Looking at it, it is something directly
- 7:14Speaker 3: out of the medieval era. Now, I say Ancient Ram
- 7:19Speaker 3: is eight hundred years old, but in reality no one
- 7:22Speaker 3: knows its exact age. The deed to the Ancient Ram
- 7:28Speaker 3: inn now they're mostly written in Norman French, and they
- 7:31Speaker 3: are held in the Record's office, not actually in like
- 7:34Speaker 3: a person's hand. It's the Historical Records Office. But translated
- 7:38Speaker 3: to English, they read quote the Ancient Ram in dates
- 7:43Speaker 3: to time immemorial. Now Time immemorial is a phrase meaning
- 7:49Speaker 3: time extended beyond the reach of memory, record or tradition.
- 7:55Speaker 3: So the paper trail leads back eight hundred years ago. However,
- 7:58Speaker 3: the deed documents that it is most likely constructed far
- 8:03Speaker 3: beyond the existence of any records they have. It literally
- 8:08Speaker 3: predates any records in the era. It could be around
- 8:11Speaker 3: one thousand years old today and that's approximately what they
- 8:15Speaker 3: estimate it to be.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Really, yes, huh, this.
- 8:19Speaker 3: Inn is estimated to be a thousand years old.
- 8:23Speaker 2: All I want to keep saying is that's ancient.
- 8:26Speaker 3: The ancient ram in there we go.
- 8:28Speaker 2: So the title is very or the name or whatever's
- 8:30Speaker 2: very fitting.
- 8:31Speaker 3: It's extremely fitting.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:33Speaker 3: Now, though we don't know exactly when it was built
- 8:36Speaker 3: or who built it per se, there are historians who
- 8:38Speaker 3: believe they have the best guess as to how this
- 8:41Speaker 3: building came to be. They suspect it was built around
- 8:44Speaker 3: the year eleven forty five and was originally owned by
- 8:48Speaker 3: the local Saint Mary's Church in the nearby village of
- 8:51Speaker 3: the Wooton under Edge. Now, it was possibly constructed to
- 8:56Speaker 3: house masons and other laborers who are working on building
- 8:59Speaker 3: the church during this time. And as for the land
- 9:03Speaker 3: that it sits on, that was also owned by the church,
- 9:06Speaker 3: and it is also believed that before the inn was
- 9:08Speaker 3: built on that soil, that site was possibly a pagan
- 9:13Speaker 3: burial ground.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Okay, well that would cause some shit to go down
- 9:19Speaker 2: in there.
- 9:20Speaker 3: Yeah, if you're building something on a burial ground, yeah,
- 9:23Speaker 3: you know, some stuff's not go right. So now, as
- 9:26Speaker 3: part of the church owned property, it was likely administered
- 9:30Speaker 3: by the clergy or their appointees for some time. But
- 9:33Speaker 3: once the church was eventually completed, the ancient ram Inn
- 9:36Speaker 3: became an important resting place for travelers and clergies passing
- 9:39Speaker 3: through the area, as it was situated along a very
- 9:42Speaker 3: busy route in the medieval England. Okay, and thus it began,
- 9:46Speaker 3: you know, being a place to rest for those weary
- 9:49Speaker 3: travelers to find a night to sleep and before they
- 9:52Speaker 3: continue on their way in the morning. At some point,
- 9:55Speaker 3: after its original purpose for church workers was fulfilled, the
- 9:58Speaker 3: ancient ram In would have been asked into private hands. Now,
- 10:02Speaker 3: records of this time are very sparse, but it is
- 10:04Speaker 3: believed that the local families would have taken over the
- 10:07Speaker 3: property and it served various purposes, including operating as an
- 10:11Speaker 3: inn as it kind of already mentioned, and it would
- 10:14Speaker 3: later eventually become a private residence as well.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Now, one of the most well known periods in its
- 10:21Speaker 3: history comes from its time as a coaching inn that
- 10:25Speaker 3: accommodated horses on the property as well as providing accommodations
- 10:29Speaker 3: for food and travelers and stuff during the eighteenth and
- 10:31Speaker 3: nineteenth centuries. But during this time it was a part
- 10:35Speaker 3: of the local community and was likely owned by wealthy
- 10:38Speaker 3: families or innkeepers whose names have unfortunately been lost to history.
- 10:44Speaker 3: But in modern times, though, the most prominent individual who
- 10:48Speaker 3: ever owned the ancient ram Inn was a man by
- 10:51Speaker 3: the name of John Humphries, who purchased the property in
- 10:55Speaker 3: nineteen sixty eight.
- 10:58Speaker 2: Okay, that's not that's kind of far ago or long
- 11:02Speaker 2: long ago. Far ago, not far ago long ago.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Someone told me long Okay, Sorry, I was just dropping
- 11:10Speaker 3: some CCR.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Where am I going with it? Yeah?
- 11:12Speaker 3: Okay, so that's the wrong John. That's John Fogerty. Now
- 11:15Speaker 3: we're talking John Humphries. Sorry, I digress, my bad.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Oh man, both of us are just like.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Spiral, Connecticut. Yeah yeah, so we I mean, this building
- 11:24Speaker 3: is like a thousand years old, So saying that we
- 11:26Speaker 3: are going back to nineteen sixty eight. That's not that
- 11:29Speaker 3: long ago. No, that's a single lifetime ago basically.
- 11:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Right, So, now, John being this central figure in the
- 11:36Speaker 3: Inn's history and keeping its history alive, he was very
- 11:40Speaker 3: prominent with and associated with the end quite frequently. But
- 11:44Speaker 3: among his hard work on the property, John also claimed
- 11:47Speaker 3: to have experienced intense paranormal activity from the very moment
- 11:51Speaker 3: he moved into its stone walls. Okay, so a lot
- 11:55Speaker 3: of the stuff we talked about was just kind of
- 11:57Speaker 3: like easing you into what this property is and the
- 11:59Speaker 3: history that we know about it, and most of the history,
- 12:02Speaker 3: like if I'm being honest, is speculative stuff. There's not
- 12:05Speaker 3: a whole lot that really tells us what it actually
- 12:08Speaker 3: was served for. It's just kind of best guess sort
- 12:10Speaker 3: of thing.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Well, the fact that this building is still even in
- 12:13Speaker 2: existence is mind blowing to me.
- 12:15Speaker 3: Oh definitely. Now, I will say this, It's not in
- 12:19Speaker 3: the best condition. It's a thousand years.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Old, right, well, yeah, I can imagine that, Like it
- 12:24Speaker 2: blows and someone could even sleep in there.
- 12:26Speaker 3: Yeah this point, so, like as much as restorations and
- 12:29Speaker 3: stuff can do, it can only do so much. Yeah,
- 12:31Speaker 3: this building, I mean, who knows how much longer it
- 12:34Speaker 3: will last. But for how old it is, it's doing
- 12:37Speaker 3: very well, that's for sure. Now John's first night after
- 12:40Speaker 3: he owned this place at the Ancient Ramen in nineteen
- 12:43Speaker 3: sixty eight, it has become a pivotal part in the
- 12:46Speaker 3: Inn's paranormal lore, and is of course also become an
- 12:51Speaker 3: infamous story all in itself. So, according to his account,
- 12:55Speaker 3: his first night there immediately revealed the chilling nature of
- 12:59Speaker 3: the property to him. As he turned down for the evening,
- 13:02Speaker 3: something didn't quite feel right to him. John felt a
- 13:06Speaker 3: strange and menacing presence that he just couldn't seem to shake,
- 13:11Speaker 3: almost like someone or something was watching his every move.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Someone was kind of breathing down his neck. There's just
- 13:17Speaker 3: something there that he couldn't quite put his finger on. Now,
- 13:21Speaker 3: as the story goes, during the night, as John slept
- 13:24Speaker 3: in his bed, suddenly he felt something grab his arm,
- 13:29Speaker 3: and in that moment, he was suddenly pulled from the
- 13:31Speaker 3: bed where he slept, dragging him out from underneath the
- 13:34Speaker 3: covers before he was thrown across the room. But when
- 13:39Speaker 3: John looked up, there was no one there. He looked
- 13:41Speaker 3: around in a panic, but he was alone. That same
- 13:44Speaker 3: menacing presence, though still lingered as John's eyes adjusted to
- 13:48Speaker 3: the dark, trying to see this invisible entity that had
- 13:51Speaker 3: just attacked him, but John just couldn't see it. John
- 13:55Speaker 3: sat on the floor in that room, terrified, but he
- 13:59Speaker 3: was also in It was in that moment John knew
- 14:02Speaker 3: this place was haunted, but despite the very terrifying experience,
- 14:06Speaker 3: he just endured. John did not leave. Instead, he became
- 14:11Speaker 3: more determined to stay in the house and understand what
- 14:15Speaker 3: was happening.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Oh wow, that's quite an individual, because I would be
- 14:19Speaker 2: running for the damn hills myself. Yeah, so I already
- 14:22Speaker 2: know the answer. I wouldn't be staying there. That's like
- 14:25Speaker 2: pretty aggressive.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Oh that's very aggressive.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Something is pulling you out of bed. So no, thank you.
- 14:31Speaker 3: So I need to clarify when you said you wouldn't
- 14:33Speaker 3: stay there. Are you saying you wouldn't stay there if
- 14:35Speaker 3: you're John, or are you saying you will not stay
- 14:37Speaker 3: there or grow to its door? Like now it is
- 14:40Speaker 3: you Nicole?
- 14:40Speaker 2: All the above?
- 14:41Speaker 3: Okay, would you even walk into this building? Oh? Yeah,
- 14:44Speaker 3: you'd go there, you just wouldn't stay Well.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Probably not. I mean, I gotta listen to more here.
- 14:48Speaker 2: But the fact of just trying to sleep and being
- 14:51Speaker 2: worried that someone, someone that isn't even there, is going
- 14:54Speaker 2: to pull you out of bed. Is just this is
- 14:58Speaker 2: something I don't need to experience.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I really blame you on that. I feel you. I'm
- 15:02Speaker 3: in the same boat. So yeah, I mean for John,
- 15:06Speaker 3: though after this first night, he kept staying there, he
- 15:10Speaker 3: kept living there, and the paranormal activity in the inn
- 15:12Speaker 3: only continued for him.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Huh.
- 15:14Speaker 3: So he reported a wide range of unsettling and inexplicable
- 15:19Speaker 3: phenomena throughout his years living there. For example, John and
- 15:23Speaker 3: various visitors have reported seeing full bodied apparitions wandering and
- 15:27Speaker 3: appearing throughout the inn. Now, if you're not sure what
- 15:30Speaker 3: a full full bodied apparition is, an apparition is like
- 15:33Speaker 3: a spirit of a person. So you see someone appear
- 15:36Speaker 3: in front of you. But a full bodied means head
- 15:38Speaker 3: to toe, legs, body, arms, head, you name it.
- 15:42Speaker 2: That's what I figured.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's a full bodied ghost. Now. These apparitions
- 15:47Speaker 3: include a woman who is believed to be a former
- 15:49Speaker 3: innkeeper and a little girl as well that goes by
- 15:53Speaker 3: the name of Rosie. But one of the more infamous
- 15:57Speaker 3: ghosts that is said to roam the walls of the
- 16:00Speaker 3: ancient ram In is that of a witch who was
- 16:02Speaker 3: reportedly burned at the stake in the area during the
- 16:06Speaker 3: fifteen hundreds. Now her crime not believing or practicing in Christianity.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Hey, yeah, that's a whole whole tale on itself, that
- 16:18Speaker 3: whole yeah thing that went down with that. But she
- 16:22Speaker 3: is believed to haunt a particular room in the inn,
- 16:25Speaker 3: one that has sincely since been aptly named the Witch's Room. Okay, Still,
- 16:33Speaker 3: more strange things have been reported, though. Objects in the
- 16:36Speaker 3: inn are said to suddenly move on their own, with
- 16:40Speaker 3: furniture shifting or even things flying across the room, crashing
- 16:43Speaker 3: into the wall at the other end of the room
- 16:45Speaker 3: and falling to the floor. Door slams shut without explanation,
- 16:50Speaker 3: and disembodies. Disembodied footsteps are said to be heard throughout
- 16:54Speaker 3: the inn, often in the dead of night, with no
- 16:57Speaker 3: source of explanation.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Okay, that kind of gave me the chills.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Could you imagine sleeping there and you just hear someone
- 17:05Speaker 3: walking up to your door and then it stops, and
- 17:10Speaker 3: that's it.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Would you go and see if anyone's out there?
- 17:13Speaker 3: No, I've shipped myself. That's my answer for any scenario
- 17:17Speaker 3: is either A I would not be there because I'm
- 17:19Speaker 3: not going to stay there, or B I would shit
- 17:22Speaker 3: myself if those are the only two options.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But honestly, I could see you wanting to stay there.
- 17:28Speaker 2: I'm intrigued to you.
- 17:29Speaker 3: What you're I one want to stay there. I also,
- 17:33Speaker 3: one hundred percent would not be able to stay there
- 17:35Speaker 3: because I'd be like, let's do this. Nope, I'm out,
- 17:38Speaker 3: Like they would.
- 17:38Speaker 2: The tiniest a thing of something off would happen and
- 17:41Speaker 2: you would just be gone.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Oh, one hundred percent, Like I would be so on edge,
- 17:48Speaker 3: you could like put down a bag behind me, and
- 17:50Speaker 3: I'd probably shit myself and leave.
- 17:52Speaker 2: You would still fall asleep, though I think.
- 17:55Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 17:56Speaker 2: I think you would. I don't fall asleep pretty easily.
- 17:59Speaker 3: I do, but I don't know. In a situation like that,
- 18:02Speaker 3: that's different. It's totally different.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Now.
- 18:05Speaker 3: John has also claimed strange sounds other than just these
- 18:08Speaker 3: footsteps can be heard. Some of the other sounds that
- 18:10Speaker 3: he claims occur are sounds like whispering and distant screams. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 3: these are apparently a common occurrence, and he is not
- 18:19Speaker 3: the only person who actually hear these things either. Many
- 18:22Speaker 3: visitors have heard them too, though they may arrive initially
- 18:25Speaker 3: at the end as you know skeptics, but they generally
- 18:28Speaker 3: leave the Ancient Ram as believers. Still, this place holds
- 18:34Speaker 3: even more darker secrets. Yet, several people, including paranormal investigators,
- 18:40Speaker 3: report feeling as though they've been possessed or are being
- 18:43Speaker 3: controlled by a malevolent spirit. Visitors would described feeling dizzy, faint,
- 18:50Speaker 3: or experiencing overwhelming emotions of things like rage or sadness,
- 18:55Speaker 3: things that just quickly consume over them and they can't
- 18:58Speaker 3: explain it. Himself said that he was frequently physically attacked
- 19:03Speaker 3: by unseen forces, being scratched, pushed, or suddenly feeling ill.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I mean, good for John, but he is putting himself
- 19:12Speaker 2: through some shit here.
- 19:14Speaker 3: He is putting himself through the Ringer, And honestly, like
- 19:17Speaker 3: why it's it doesn't make sense to me, But it
- 19:20Speaker 3: seems like he's got an attachment of some sort for
- 19:23Speaker 3: one reason or another. Who knows, Yeah, well.
- 19:25Speaker 2: And then I don't know. Maybe maybe he's always been
- 19:29Speaker 2: interested in spirits and ghosts and stuff, and that's true,
- 19:32Speaker 2: trying to learn more, or he could even want to help, right,
- 19:35Speaker 2: that's true because you hear these stories that I don't
- 19:38Speaker 2: know if they're real or whatever, but like that, the
- 19:40Speaker 2: ghosts just need help, right or something, or they're stuck
- 19:43Speaker 2: or well.
- 19:44Speaker 3: And it could also be that he's not even necessarily
- 19:46Speaker 3: trying to help the spirits, but he's trying to help
- 19:48Speaker 3: the public and keep them safe from the spirits. If
- 19:51Speaker 3: he's there to contain them, then he's able to protect
- 19:54Speaker 3: people from getting hurt. If he's the one being pushed
- 19:57Speaker 3: by what he knows is going to happen, he's experienced it,
- 20:00Speaker 3: he's there, he knows, you know, what pushes their buttons
- 20:04Speaker 3: or whatever, he can protect other people from it himself,
- 20:07Speaker 3: basically putting himself as a sacrificial lamb.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Now, above all things that are said to happen and
- 20:13Speaker 3: haunt the ancient Ram, though, the most frightening thing is
- 20:17Speaker 3: an infamous entity that wanders these walls. This is a
- 20:22Speaker 3: demon known as an incubus. This is a malevolent spirit
- 20:27Speaker 3: that is known for attacking people in their sleep, just
- 20:31Speaker 3: as John experienced on his very first night sleeping at
- 20:35Speaker 3: the Ram. Now, experiences in theoretical history are only a
- 20:40Speaker 3: few parts to this story, with claims of spirits and
- 20:43Speaker 3: theories of dark history, you know, all these different things.
- 20:47Speaker 3: There was only there's only really one thing missing that
- 20:50Speaker 3: could actually cement this haunted building into the legend that
- 20:55Speaker 3: it is today, actual evidence to support paranormal claims. And
- 21:01Speaker 3: it just so happens that John may have found that
- 21:04Speaker 3: exact evidence. So during his time in the inn, John
- 21:10Speaker 3: not only cared for the building, but he also did
- 21:12Speaker 3: some quite a few renovations, both for his living purposes
- 21:15Speaker 3: and of course for restoration as well. Right, But during
- 21:18Speaker 3: some of these renovations and you know, explorations of the
- 21:21Speaker 3: property and such, John stumbled upon several disturbing artifacts. And
- 21:27Speaker 3: the most chilling of these discoveries were that of human
- 21:30Speaker 3: skeletal remains which were found beneath the floorboards and the
- 21:34Speaker 3: stairs inside the inn.
- 21:36Speaker 2: Oh man, okay, okay, that's not surprising at all, really considering.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Right, considering, Yeah, definitely not. You're being like pulled out
- 21:46Speaker 3: of bed and there's voices and screams and apparitions, and
- 21:49Speaker 3: you pull up floorboards and there's a skeleton.
- 21:53Speaker 2: See that's almost worse though, Like I feel like finding
- 21:56Speaker 2: that in you know, somewhere you're staying or living or whatever, like, no, thanks, Oh.
- 22:02Speaker 3: I agree, But how is that that worse though?
- 22:06Speaker 2: Then being pulled out of bed by a demon?
- 22:08Speaker 3: Oh, you're saying finding a skeleton worst and being pulled
- 22:11Speaker 3: out of bed, well.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Kind of like that's scary. Shit. I don't know, it's
- 22:15Speaker 2: like a physical something that's.
- 22:16Speaker 3: There, right, yeah, but I'm more afraid of what I
- 22:20Speaker 3: can't see personally.
- 22:21Speaker 2: To Shay too, Shae. But then you just I don't know,
- 22:25Speaker 2: you don't know the story of how the person necessarily
- 22:28Speaker 2: died and no debt, and their bodies like hidden, and
- 22:31Speaker 2: so that's just maybe some bad like ju ju, bad
- 22:35Speaker 2: energy going on in there, right well, we already were
- 22:37Speaker 2: already very aware of.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of bad energy for sure. I
- 22:41Speaker 3: do want to clarify, though, I don't know to the
- 22:42Speaker 3: extent of what quote skeleton remains mean. I'm not saying
- 22:46Speaker 3: it's a full skeleton. I'm pretty sure it's probably like
- 22:48Speaker 3: fragments and stuff like maybe a rib bone, things like that.
- 22:51Speaker 3: But it's not like he pulls up the floorboard and
- 22:53Speaker 3: there's just a human skeleton just playing there, full intact.
- 22:58Speaker 3: But some of the bones found are actually believed to
- 23:01Speaker 3: be that belonging to children really, yes, And they were
- 23:05Speaker 3: found alongside items such as daggers and pottery fragments. So
- 23:11Speaker 3: this discovery of the remains and daggers specifically led to
- 23:15Speaker 3: speculation that these remains were evidence of ancient rituals and
- 23:19Speaker 3: possibly some people believe this linked the ancient ram to
- 23:23Speaker 3: pagan practices and witchcraft. In particular, it gave rise to
- 23:28Speaker 3: the theory that the site was used for sacrificing children
- 23:33Speaker 3: in ancient times.
- 23:34Speaker 2: My brain did go there, and I was like, oh, man,
- 23:37Speaker 2: should I admit that that's where my brain went, because
- 23:39Speaker 2: that's like super awkward. So I'm glad that it wasn't off.
- 23:43Speaker 3: No, that's definitely where a lot of people go, and
- 23:45Speaker 3: that's terrible, yeah, isn't it.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 3: So it is believed that the area around the inn
- 23:53Speaker 3: could have been a place where rituals were practiced, possibly
- 23:56Speaker 3: pagan in nature, and they were performed here in the site,
- 23:59Speaker 3: which maybe the explanation as to why the intense paranormal
- 24:02Speaker 3: activities is being reported at the site now, whether it's
- 24:06Speaker 3: you know, the spirits of those deceased, or these rituals
- 24:09Speaker 3: opened up you know, doorways to demons or whatever. We
- 24:13Speaker 3: don't know. We can only speculate, but those are some
- 24:17Speaker 3: theories as to why these, of course are happening. But
- 24:20Speaker 3: despite these horrifying things, though, John became attached to the
- 24:23Speaker 3: ancient ram Inn. As I already mentioned, he basically saw
- 24:27Speaker 3: it as his mission to preserve the building and its
- 24:29Speaker 3: dark history. Along with it. He opened the house to
- 24:33Speaker 3: paranormal investigators, to journalists, and of course thrill seekers as well,
- 24:37Speaker 3: all of whom reported strange phenomenon during their stays, some people,
- 24:41Speaker 3: of course running out in the middle of the night
- 24:44Speaker 3: and never coming back.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Oh, just like leaving their shit and they're gone.
- 24:49Speaker 3: Ay now, John seemed to have become somewhat desensitized to
- 24:54Speaker 3: the paranormal activity over time, and it almost seemed as
- 24:57Speaker 3: though he had grown fond of the spirits and entities
- 25:00Speaker 3: in this home. Still, though, John always maintained that the
- 25:03Speaker 3: building was unsafe for the faint of heart, and that
- 25:07Speaker 3: there is is particularly why I think he kind of
- 25:10Speaker 3: almost made himself that sacrificial lamb. I'm used to it.
- 25:13Speaker 3: They can do this to me, and I'll protect other
- 25:15Speaker 3: people from enduring that.
- 25:19Speaker 2: You almost wonder if the ghosts or whatever we're calling them,
- 25:23Speaker 2: like you know could grow fond of John and over
- 25:27Speaker 2: time like not spook him as much. I have no idea, Yeah,
- 25:30Speaker 2: how this shit works, I.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Would definitely say so. I don't have this written in
- 25:33Speaker 3: the script that I'm reading here, and we are almost
- 25:35Speaker 3: at the end, but I have watched some documentaries on
- 25:38Speaker 3: this and John walking through and explaining some of the places.
- 25:41Speaker 3: And there's one one room in particular, and I think
- 25:43Speaker 3: it's the one with the incubus, the demon where he
- 25:47Speaker 3: always knocks before he enters. He's like, if you don't like,
- 25:51Speaker 3: you'll piss him off. He's like, you knock first.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Really, Yeah, So every.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Time he goes up these stairs and he gets to
- 25:58Speaker 3: this room, he fucking knocks.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Holy shit.
- 26:01Speaker 3: So things like that, like the entities or spirits.
- 26:05Speaker 2: He's getting to know them.
- 26:07Speaker 3: He is and they are. I mean, honestly, it's just
- 26:10Speaker 3: like living with bad roommates at that point. You you
- 26:12Speaker 3: live with each other, you learn each other's you know
- 26:14Speaker 3: what pisses each other off, and you try not to
- 26:16Speaker 3: step in each other's toes, and you go on with
- 26:19Speaker 3: your day. John knows that if you fucking go in
- 26:22Speaker 3: this room without your present, like without announcing your presence,
- 26:26Speaker 3: you're gonna have a bad time.
- 26:27Speaker 2: And so that room. Can you stay in that room?
- 26:31Speaker 3: I can't recall if he allows people to stay in
- 26:33Speaker 3: that room or not.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I feel like that should be a hard No.
- 26:36Speaker 3: I can't recall, honestly, the documentary that I'm talking about.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I did not watch it in my research here. I've
- 26:43Speaker 3: watched that one like probably six months ago. I am
- 26:47Speaker 3: well versed in the Ancient Ramit. I watch stuff on
- 26:50Speaker 3: it quite frequently.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I kind of want to watch stuff because it's I
- 26:53Speaker 2: want to see a photo too. It's very interesting.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Oh it's it's this gorgeous little place. It's beautiful. It's
- 26:59Speaker 3: dilap but it's so beautiful, and it's like, like I said,
- 27:02Speaker 3: straight out of a medieval eras so cool.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Now.
- 27:06Speaker 3: John continued to live in and look after the Ancient
- 27:09Speaker 3: Ram until he passed away in twenty seventeen, and he
- 27:12Speaker 3: passed away surrounded by the ghosts and the dark energy
- 27:14Speaker 3: that he believed were bound to the inn. Even when
- 27:19Speaker 3: many suggested that he leave or sell the property, John
- 27:21Speaker 3: just absolutely refused. When he was alive, he believed that
- 27:25Speaker 3: it was his responsibility to keep the spirits contained in
- 27:27Speaker 3: the walls. John's personal experiences and stories have been featured
- 27:32Speaker 3: in numerous paranormal documentaries, books, TV shows, you name it
- 27:37Speaker 3: all over the years, and the building has become an
- 27:40Speaker 3: iconic place, you know what, not even iconic, a legendary
- 27:45Speaker 3: place at this point, let's be honest, a legendary place
- 27:47Speaker 3: for ghost hunters around the world. And now, since John's passing,
- 27:51Speaker 3: he has actually since passed the Ancient ram In to
- 27:54Speaker 3: his daughter, Caroline Humphries, who now continues to manage the inn,
- 27:58Speaker 3: sharing her father's story and legacy with the world, or
- 28:02Speaker 3: at least those who are brave enough to actually step
- 28:05Speaker 3: through the door of the Ancient ram But Caroline herself,
- 28:09Speaker 3: she refuses to stay a night at the end.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Oh okay, that says a lot right there, doesn't it.
- 28:18Speaker 3: It does, and that is the story of the Ancient
- 28:22Speaker 3: ram In. Huh So tell me would you stay a
- 28:26Speaker 3: night at that place? I wouldn't.
- 28:30Speaker 2: No, No, because why because why? Like I don't know
- 28:35Speaker 2: really why? Right?
- 28:37Speaker 3: No, Nope, don't need that.
- 28:39Speaker 2: I don't know. I just feel only right if I'm
- 28:42Speaker 2: on holidays and want you know, it's it's not to
- 28:46Speaker 2: just get to get like just pulled out of bed
- 28:49Speaker 2: and ship like it's to relax.
- 28:52Speaker 3: Like, shut up, I want to get a good night's sleeping.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Like, I will probably be pissed, will you know, I'm
- 29:00Speaker 2: so delusional in the middle of the night. I probably
- 29:02Speaker 2: wouldn't even know what was going on.
- 29:04Speaker 3: You would probably get mad at me. This is probably
- 29:07Speaker 3: what would happen. You'd roll over and get mad at me. Meanwhile,
- 29:10Speaker 3: there's a ghost yankin on your leg trying to haul
- 29:12Speaker 3: you out of bed, and you're like, ben, fuck off.
- 29:15Speaker 3: I'm like what I could see this happening too.
- 29:18Speaker 2: So you can stay there, but you can also just
- 29:22Speaker 2: go into or for like a tour or something I'm imagined.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm pretty sure everything that you do in this
- 29:27Speaker 3: building you have to book ahead of time. Oh yeah,
- 29:30Speaker 3: but yeah, you can just kind of go for visit.
- 29:32Speaker 2: You can.
- 29:33Speaker 3: It's open to paranormal investigators. Like you can go and
- 29:36Speaker 3: like book this place of the evening and you can
- 29:37Speaker 3: bring in cameras. You can film a fucking TV show there,
- 29:40Speaker 3: documentary or whatever. Of course, you just need to make
- 29:43Speaker 3: sure that you contact Caroline and book it accordingly.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Are you gonna show me a photo of this place?
- 29:49Speaker 2: I can I want to see what it looks like
- 29:51Speaker 2: and you said this was in England, right, Yes, huh.
- 29:55Speaker 2: And that's so hard to because I feel like John
- 29:59Speaker 2: was just so attached to this place, right he was.
- 30:02Speaker 2: It's that's hard for his daughter, like she almost has
- 30:07Speaker 2: to keep it right, and then it just seems like
- 30:10Speaker 2: it's something that has to stay in the family very much.
- 30:13Speaker 3: So I mean potentially you can just.
- 30:15Speaker 2: So like attached to it so adamant.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Yeah, to take care of the place.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, I don't know why. That's not exactly what
- 30:22Speaker 2: I was expecting. But it is pretty, isn't it. Yeah,
- 30:26Speaker 2: it's really cute.
- 30:27Speaker 3: The stone work, the whitewashed outside, those those dark wooden
- 30:31Speaker 3: beams supporting it and crossing across the front and everything.
- 30:34Speaker 2: Wow.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:36Speaker 2: The fact that they've kept this this, you know, alive, is.
- 30:42Speaker 3: That the right work standing?
- 30:43Speaker 1: How is that?
- 30:44Speaker 2: Is like incredible, isn't it. That's very cool.
- 30:47Speaker 3: That's got to be a testament to the people who
- 30:49Speaker 3: actually built.
- 30:50Speaker 2: It, Like, oh yeah, no kidding.
- 30:52Speaker 3: This is not some grand architecture. This is just like
- 30:55Speaker 3: this looks like a pub down the road sort of thing,
- 30:58Speaker 3: and yet it stood for like a thousand years.
- 31:02Speaker 2: That would be cool to turn it into a pub.
- 31:05Speaker 3: There are some some creepy haunted pubs like that.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder if people would, you know, actually want
- 31:11Speaker 2: to go in if the pub would end up doing
- 31:13Speaker 2: well or not.
- 31:15Speaker 3: I mean, I think people would go in there and
- 31:17Speaker 3: just like expect like haunted things to happen. But even
- 31:20Speaker 3: if they did, they'd just be like, oh, that dumb
- 31:22Speaker 3: drunk back there, just knock the painting off.
- 31:24Speaker 2: The wall, like, you know, yeah, huh. Interesting. I imagine
- 31:30Speaker 2: too that there's some people that go in there though,
- 31:32Speaker 2: and don't experience anything.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Oh, I would imagine so for sure.
- 31:36Speaker 2: But it isn't like it's a guarantee.
- 31:38Speaker 3: No, no, definitely not, but it is most it is
- 31:40Speaker 3: one of the most haunted places in the UK, and
- 31:43Speaker 3: as such there is like a lot of people have
- 31:46Speaker 3: a lot of experiences in there. I'm not saying everyone
- 31:48Speaker 3: has an experience, but a lot of people do.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Hmmm. I don't know. I'm just sort of I'm one
- 31:54Speaker 2: of those people that kind of think that you have
- 31:56Speaker 2: to be open to those kind of experiences as well
- 32:00Speaker 2: to experience them. Do you get what I'm saying.
- 32:04Speaker 3: I I do, but I disagree at a certain point.
- 32:11Speaker 2: I don't know, I just feel I feel as you
- 32:13Speaker 2: can close your you can kind of close your mind
- 32:15Speaker 2: off from it in a way. And then I don't know.
- 32:19Speaker 3: For me personally, I think that's almost I'm gonna how
- 32:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna say this is gonna sound rude, but I
- 32:25Speaker 3: almost think it's ignorance at that point. It's like, Okay,
- 32:30Speaker 3: you know what, I felt, a cold draft, and you're
- 32:32Speaker 3: just like turning your mind off to it and say, Okay,
- 32:34Speaker 3: that cold draft wasn't paranormal. It was just a fucking
- 32:36Speaker 3: cold draft came in through a window or something something.
- 32:38Speaker 2: Yeah, but at.
- 32:39Speaker 3: A certain point you can't be ignorant to something that
- 32:42Speaker 3: can't be explained.
- 32:44Speaker 2: I guess I just feel some people are more susceptible
- 32:47Speaker 2: to it than others, like say, kids or whatever, animals
- 32:50Speaker 2: and stuff.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, for sure, because maybe you can see things
- 32:53Speaker 3: other people can't, or you can feel things or have
- 32:55Speaker 3: you're an EmPATH and have emotions that other people can,
- 32:58Speaker 3: you can connect to things. So one hunter percent. But
- 33:01Speaker 3: I do think if a fucking painting goes flying across
- 33:03Speaker 3: the room, I think everyone can see it. Yes, yes,
- 33:07Speaker 3: And if you are ignorant to those situations, And again,
- 33:09Speaker 3: I don't mean ignorant in a bad way. I just
- 33:11Speaker 3: been like, you're not looking for it, and you're explaining
- 33:14Speaker 3: things away. But if you are ignorant to that situation
- 33:17Speaker 3: and that fucking happens, you can only be so ignorant.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you can only explain so many things exactly. So,
- 33:25Speaker 2: I mean that's kind of the way it is though people.
- 33:28Speaker 2: You know, weird things happen and or weird feelings, and
- 33:31Speaker 2: you just make excuses for them, right, I mean, I
- 33:33Speaker 2: think you're you're protecting yourself too in a way. But yeah,
- 33:37Speaker 2: you can only only explain certain things. So and you
- 33:42Speaker 2: being pulled out of bed is I don't think is
- 33:45Speaker 2: anything i'd a want to experience or be be able
- 33:47Speaker 2: to explain.
- 33:48Speaker 3: No kidding, Like, how how could you explain that to yourself?
- 33:52Speaker 3: Be thrown across the room?
- 33:54Speaker 2: I don't know if you would ever have a good
- 33:56Speaker 2: sleep again. Really, Yeah, that's kind of of uh traumatizing, Yeah.
- 34:02Speaker 3: No kidding, there's like PTSD after that.
- 34:04Speaker 2: So the fact that that happened to John and he
- 34:06Speaker 2: just you know, stayed in there, I'm curious how many
- 34:09Speaker 2: times it did happen. And he seems like he's kind
- 34:13Speaker 2: of like a little bit of a badass that.
- 34:15Speaker 3: He's just like, you know what I'm wondering. I'm wondering
- 34:18Speaker 3: if it's almost like some strange form of like Stockholm syndrome.
- 34:23Speaker 2: That he had, you know, Oh, okay.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Like he was almost like a captor of this place,
- 34:31Speaker 3: and he just almost became reliant on these experiences in
- 34:35Speaker 3: this place. And you know, if he left it and
- 34:38Speaker 3: he didn't hear footsteps in the night, maybe he wouldn't
- 34:40Speaker 3: have been able to sleep good because it just didn't
- 34:42Speaker 3: feel right, you know.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Yeah, huh.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Maybe he needed the place.
