  With that in mind, let me share a little bit about my story so you can get to know my heart behind this podcast and how God has impacted my life.

  People ask me, how did you get started in business?
• 1:08
  I'm going to give you a story that started way back when I was probably 10 years old.
• 1:13
  10 years old, they had this little career aptitude test at school.
• 1:16
  And when you record this, or when you do this test, you write down all the things you're good at and they bring you in and an adult tells you what job you should have as you get
• 1:24
  to be an adult.
• 1:25
  So I was called to the office for mine and in my brain I'm thinking, boy, I get to be president or I get to be a business leader, a CEO for our huge corporation.

  I know that's what they're going to tell me.
• 1:36
  I sat down in front of this adult and she looked at me.
• 1:38
  She's like, Lyle, you've got two opportunities.
• 1:40
  I'm like, yes, here it comes.
• 1:43
  In that moment, she said, you can be a construction worker or a dump truck driver.
• 1:48
  My heart sank.
• 1:50
  Literally here's 10 year old Lyle and
• 1:52
  I went from being six foot tall to being two foot to the ground.
• 1:58
  And I stepped out of that room, dejected, rejected, and feeling the pressure of what somebody else believes I can do.

  But as I turned the corner, started walking down that hall, I just felt God whisper in my ear, tap me on the shoulder and say, I have better plans for you.

  I have bigger plans for you.

  Fast forward, spent over 10, I got started in advertising, then I went and spent over 20 years in ministry, and then God called me back out of ministry and wanted to use that

  marketing skills to impact the kingdom of God.

  So that brought me back into the business we're in now.
• 2:31
  So I had this blog post that I created.
• 2:33
  So this transition from ministry into business, I spent an entire year doing blog posts specifically helping Christians with the basic questions.

  know, stuff like, should I put a uh Bible verse on my business card?
• 2:48
  Should I create videos?
• 2:49
  Should I show my face or not show my face?
• 2:51
  All these little weird questions people had, but with a Christian perspective on it.
• 2:55
  I grew a YouTube channel.
• 2:57
  impacted people in over 16 different nations, which thank God those people were impacted and he's using them to impact others.

  There's just such amazing things that have happened.
• 3:06
  I can go on and on about this, but why are we doing this podcast?

  Somebody asked me that today.
• 3:11
  This is a business testimony podcast that came out in one of our sessions with the lady I was with.

  We were speaking before the session and I'm like, this is a business testimony podcast.
• 3:21
  She's like, I like that.
• 3:23
  So I'm going to start using that.
• 3:26
  I don't know of any other place where you could tell your testimony about what God's doing in your business in a way that it also impacts somebody else's business by giving them
• 3:35
  specific tips that they can do in their business.
• 3:38
  And so as I begin to pray for it, I meet with a group of Christian entrepreneurs every other week, basically.
• 3:43
  We meet 20, 30, 40 of us.
• 3:45
  And we're always encouraging and edifying and helping each other grow in our spiritual growth.
• 3:50
  And as we begin to develop these ideas,
• 3:53
  I said, what can we do to take to the next step?
• 3:55
  So I developed a directory for Christians in Business called Top Christian Business.
• 3:59
  This is something God put on my plate and it allowed me to pull this forward.
• 4:03
  And it was an opportunity for Christians to showcase what they do to other Christians or people who want to work with a Christian business.
• 4:09
  They can go to this directory and no matter what category they're in, they can search people, they can see their Bible verses, they can see how God has impacted their business.
• 4:16
  And I began to wonder, how could we tell that story even deeper?
• 4:19
  How can we take that story to the next level?
• 4:22
  And so I was like, what if we did a podcast?
• 4:23
  And I was like, man, that's a lot of work.
• 4:24
  So I began praying for it.
• 4:26
  And I began to see what God did.
• 4:27
  And God created this framework in my brain called align your business with God.
• 4:32
  Let me give you an example of what this means.
• 4:34
  If I say, go get me a chocolate donut, most people are going to get a regular vanilla donut with chocolate icing on it.
• 4:42
  Right?
• 4:43
  That's a chocolate donut for most people, but that's not a true chocolate donut.
• 4:46
  True chocolate donut, the entire donut is infiltrated with chocolate.
• 4:52
  That's what I want to see in people's business.
• 4:54
  I want to see God infiltrated their business, not just a little bit of God on top of their business.
• 4:59
  And when you align your life with God, when all that impact comes together and God begins to work in your life even deeper, because every part of your life and every part of your

  business, every part of your calling comes together, your vision, your mission, your strategy, all come together under the banner of Jesus.

  That's when things make a difference.

  When the Holy Spirit begins to work in and through your business,
• 5:21
  the way you make decisions changes.
• 5:23
  Because a lot of times we're like, we're the CEO, God's along for the ride.
• 5:27
  But in reality, God is our CEO.
• 5:31
  He's the one in charge.
• 5:32
  So every decision we do, every KPI, that's your key performance indicators, everything you're tracking to grow your business, everything should be lined out for God.

  And here's the big question I get a lot of times, know, well, part of me wants to go out and evangelize and tell people about Jesus and spend my time in prayer and deepening my...

  my life as a Christian and learn the Bible, how do I balance this time with all the stuff I gotta do on business?

  I've gotta do social media, I've gotta train my team, I've gotta lead some leaders, I've gotta blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, and they just list all this stuff.

  The key is balance.
• 6:08
  God specifically says, set your path before me and I will guide your steps.
• 6:12
  Think about that for a second.
• 6:14
  If we're setting our path before him, he's gonna guide our steps.
• 6:17
  If we're trying to do it on our own, we're gonna be confused and there's gonna be so much discombobulation.

  How's that a word?
• 6:23
  Discombobulation.
• 6:24
  There's gonna be so much.
• 6:27
  confusion and you're going to have a loss of clarity.
• 6:30
  Clarity comes from having a clear vision of what God is doing in and through your life.

  Sometimes that vision is to not do something.
• 6:37
  Sometimes the vision is to do more of something.
• 6:39
  And it's all aligning yourself with God and knowing how those things work.
• 6:42
  I don't want to get too far into it, but let's talk about the basic spiritual disciplines we should all be focusing on.

  Prayer.
• 6:49
  That's the basic, basic basics.
• 6:52
  You have a direct relationship, a direct line from God.
• 6:55
  Praying your decisions, praying for your
• 6:57
  your clients, your customers, praying for your vendors.

  There's an entire prayer circle you can do just within your business.
• 7:05
  What about Bible study?
• 7:07
  How is God's Word impacting it?
• 7:08
  And you may not realize this, but God's Word was written to people who were entrepreneurs.

  There weren't a lot of workers back then.
• 7:15
  They were called slaves, right?
• 7:17
  The slaves were the workers.
• 7:19
  Most people were entrepreneurs.
• 7:20
  They had their own business.
• 7:20
  Their business was out of their home.
• 7:22
  And so a lot of the Bible is actually written to people who were entrepreneurs.

  Think about Moses, what did he do?
• 7:32
  Aaron was a Levite, right?
• 7:33
  He was a religious leader.
• 7:34
  He was a little bit different, but Moses, he ended up being a shepherd, didn't he?
• 7:39
  Think of all the different people all through the Bible, all the different skill sets they had.
• 7:42
  Even Jesus was a carpenter.
• 7:44
  And so think about how your skill set impacts the world for the kingdom of God.

  And when you align God with those and you fully infiltrate God into your business and into your life, the impact you make in the kingdom of God is so much bigger and so much better

  than you ever could believe.

  And let's talk about church for a second, because I really got to get here.

  There are people that believe as a Christian in business, you don't have to go to church because you should have a church in your business.
• 8:11
  Or you should do your business on Sundays and do church other days.
• 8:14
  But let me tell you, if you're not finding a body of believers, a Christian body of believers that you can connect with and grow with, somebody who will be over you can
• 8:22
  submit to this group of people.
• 8:25
  Doesn't matter what denomination.
• 8:26
  We're going talk about denominations here.
• 8:28
  but a group of people, Bible believing group of people that you can gather with on a weekly basis to help grow your spirit and hopefully impact them as well.

  Because as Christians, we as business leaders, we are leaders.
• 8:42
  My goal and my hope and my prayer for you is that you're taking that leadership and you're impacting or mentoring somebody younger than you.

  And hopefully you're doing that spiritually and hopefully that's happening inside your church as well.

  We have so much giftings and talents.
• 8:56
  I know it's easy to get so
• 8:58
  crowd and we're like, oh, I just don't, I just want to take a day off.

  Nothing wrong with taking a day off.
• 9:03
  You should be taking a day off.
• 9:04
  a matter of I highly suggest taking a day off.
• 9:07
  But on that aspect, you should also be giving back.

  How are you impacting somebody else?
• 9:12
  You should have somebody helping you grow, discipling you, and you should be mentoring or discipling someone else.

  That's the pattern we see all throughout scripture.

  We see that as far back as Moses and Joshua.
• 9:22
  We see that with Jesus, Paul, and all the different disciples going on.
• 9:26
  We see this happening.
• 9:27
  Jesus, Paul, Timothy, you see this pattern in scripture.
• 9:30
  m Is that pattern happening in your life?
• 9:36
  So when I started praying about how to do and what to do for this podcast, those are the things that came to mind is how can we impact the individual lives of those in business so

  they can have a greater kingdom impact in the world around them.

  That's their community, both locally and globally.
• 9:53
  That's why we created this podcast, giving people a place to tell their business
• 9:57
  So the third part of our structure here is what are some tips you can do right now to grow your business?

  I'm gonna tell you some super simple ones and I could probably talk for 20 minutes on this one alone because I'm a business strategist, I'm a marketing guru, not guru, I hate that
• 10:11
  word, a marketing leader, learner, whatever you're call that, a marketing strategist is what I would call it.

  But I think of the little things we can do.
• 10:22
  Something as simple as changing your
• 10:26
  banner on your Facebook page, your Twitter, your YouTube, any of those things, that goes out as an alert for anybody who's following you.
• 10:34
  And sometimes, let's say that you have a thousand people following, or let's say you have 500 people following you, if you post something, about 2 % of those people are seeing that
• 10:42
  one thing.
• 10:43
  However, if you're doing something on that social media platform, let's just use Facebook for an example, and I don't care what your belief is about Facebook, it is a strategy that

  can be used, and it can be used to impact the kingdom of God.

  just leave it there.
• 10:57
  Whatever social media is, can input your own social media there, but if you change that image, that banner image on the top, it will go out to a larger percentage of those 200
• 11:06
  people or 500 people.
• 11:08
  So instead of them, let's say we had 200 people, your 2 % is like 40 people.
• 11:12
  When you change that banner out, it may be shown to 100 or 150 people of that 200, because Facebook likes to talk about Facebook.

  So when you're doing something on Facebook, they do it.
• 11:22
  Also your profile picture, change it up every once in a while.
• 11:25
  There's nothing worse than going to somebody's profile picture and it's their picture from 20 years ago.

  Now, why am I talking about simple things like social media?
• 11:32
  Because that's where people are hanging out.
• 11:35
  There's a high probability your customers hang out somewhere on social media.
• 11:40
  And so if you keep those little things updated, you keep yourself out there, be authentic, be true.

  That's going to make an impact.
• 11:48
  So those little changes can make a big impact.
• 11:52
  Last thing I would tell you to do is lean into video.
• 11:55
  Be true, be authentic.
• 11:57
  love those words.
• 11:58
  And don't be afraid to put a video out there.

  What's going on in your life?

  Share a little tidbit.
• 12:02
  It doesn't have to be super personal, but people like to see fun things people are doing.

  Hey, this week I went out on my jet skis or this week I went out bowling or I went on a hike, whatever that is, people want to see those stories and then bring those stories back

  to how you're doing your business and how God's impacting your life.
• 12:19
  You know, let's use hiking as an example.
• 12:21
  I went out hiking and I realized this,
• 12:24
  was a really hard hill, but you know what?
• 12:26
  I struggled and I worked my way and it was so worth it to get to the top.
• 12:29
  In my business, I realized sometimes I'm in the middle of something and I don't want to keep going, but I do because I know there's a goal that I want to reach at the top.

  See, that turns into business.
• 12:40
  Same thing.
• 12:42
  I was on a hike and I was taking this trip up this hill and it really hard and I was getting really tired.

  I got to the very top and I looked out and saw God's creation and saw all the beauty that God has created around

  See how something as simple as a hike can be used to impact the kingdom of God without getting super preachy, but just by being authentic and impacting lives.
