- 1:04SPEAKER_12: Moving at the speed of my just like deck.
- 1:06SPEAKER_12: I'm head of my time, I'm never ahead of a flow.
- 1:08SPEAKER_12: Don't you know time is one big move.
- 1:10SPEAKER_12: You can run a mobile, drip around two trees.
- 1:12SPEAKER_12: We can stay ahead of the curve and full grip boots.
- 1:15unknown: So you do you, even if it's old school.

- 1:22SPEAKER_13: Be boys fully equipped to channel the sound.
- 1:24SPEAKER_13: Don't book off wrong.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: Hello and welcome to the Overclocked Remix Podcast, the best source for OC remix news and new music that you can listen to while sliding down a chimney to exchange milk and cookies for wrapped gifts from an Elven sweatshop.
- 1:40SPEAKER_03: My name is Zach, and I once got a Sega Dreamcast for Christmas.
- 1:45SPEAKER_03: This is episode number 13, which is the birthday episode.
- 1:49SPEAKER_03: That's right, this is the episode covering November 2025, and the very first episode was the one covering November 2024.
- 1:58SPEAKER_03: I've been doing this all year, and somehow I have listeners.
- 2:02SPEAKER_03: I am grateful.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: But speaking of things to be grateful for in news, news, news, I have news.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Our play-in song was Time Travelers Delight by Overclock Assembled from Sonic CD.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: And our news music, you'll just have to listen for it.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: Well, that's because we've got a new album alert.
- 3:17SPEAKER_03: Stop whatever you are doing and head on over to timeshift.ocremix.org to give it a download.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: You'll hear more about this album later.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: That was a spoiler for the segment.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: But the short version is that it is an album to celebrate the 25th birthday of OCR, which was roughly one year ago.
- 3:37SPEAKER_03: Well, it was roughly one year ago on OCR's 25th that the album was conceived, but it's coming out a year later.
- 3:45SPEAKER_03: Because that's how it works.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: Conception, wait roughly a year release.
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: Also, as of this recording, the 2025 edition of an overclocked Christmas is out.
- 3:55SPEAKER_03: So go give that a download too.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: Now let's move on to some new music.
- 22:56SPEAKER_03: All right, that was Ancient Skyline by The Key Combo and Paradiddles Josh from Final Fantasy Fourteen, A Flower for Your Funeral by JN Wake and The Man PF from Undertale, Rescue Cora Anthem by Pixel Tea from Pikmin IV, and after that we had In Memoriam by Minus World from Mega Race.
- 23:20SPEAKER_03: And we are off to a great start, because you know I love Jazzy Final Fantasy remixes and prog metal, and we are getting both of those.
- 23:30SPEAKER_03: And also I got this reminder that I haven't played Pikmin 4 yet.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: I replayed 1 and 2 recently.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: I just need to replay 3 on the Switch, and then I'll be there.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: Boy, talk about Core Memory Unlocked, Mega Race.
- 23:44SPEAKER_03: That was one of the very few actual DOS games I had that weren't edutainment of some variety.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: They did that early 90s thing of, wow, what do we do with hundreds of megabytes of space on a CD-ROM?
- 23:58SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 23:59SPEAKER_03: FMVs?
- 24:01SPEAKER_03: They had a lot of footage of some actor being a race commentator, and then the races themselves were FMVs of looped FMVs of speeding through a racetrack with sprites on top of that.
- 24:13SPEAKER_03: Honestly, in my memory, it plays more like a schmuck than a racer, but what do I know?
- 24:19SPEAKER_03: Cool soundtrack though, and I love what Minus World has done with it.
- 24:23SPEAKER_03: Also, a warm welcome to Pixel Tea and their very first mix post.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: Something going on this year with new remixers in Pikmin.
- 42:15SPEAKER_03: By Emmunator, Barat Raman, Minus World, Morgan, Nemo Fairlight, and Zack Parish from Metal Gear Solid.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: After that was Rigging Rampage by Argyle from Donkey Kong Country 2.
- 42:29SPEAKER_03: After that was Five More, Never More, by Zack Parish from Chrono Trigger.
- 42:35SPEAKER_03: And finally we had The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Weed Whackers by Roland and Lara Quinte Martinez, Jay and Wake, Minus World, and Pixels and Paradiddles from The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker.
- 42:50SPEAKER_03: And yes, let me acknowledge, I am skipping a track.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: We listened to all of A Night for a Night here on the podcast already, and would you look at that?
- 43:02SPEAKER_03: We're just gonna move along.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: I'm no dropkick Murphy's expert, but I do live in Boston, so I've osmosed a little, and Rigging Rampage definitely has some of that feel.
- 43:16SPEAKER_03: I think the Source Turn, of course, really lends itself to that sort of Celtic punk, which is what Wikipedia calls this genre.
- 43:23SPEAKER_03: Although given it's Boston, maybe it's Celtic Punk.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Anyway, also in this block, I love how I still haven't gotten tired of the Zeal theme from Chrono Trigger, aka Shala's theme.
- 43:35SPEAKER_03: 23 remixes, and we are still loving it.
- 43:39SPEAKER_03: Also gotta shout out to another sort of newcomer, Roland N.
- 43:43SPEAKER_03: Larriquente Martinez, who has been on the pod before, but just now got his first arrangement credit.
- 43:52SPEAKER_03: And what a credit! This is exactly my kind of music.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: A little metal, a little jazz, a lot of prog, and that Oh man.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_03: Alright, in that block we had A Walk in Snowpoint City by Land Party and Theology from Pokemon Diamond, Above the Borders by Tibanev from Microsoft Flight Simulator, then We Under the Stars by JN Wake and Eminator from Shovel Knight, and House of Shadow by Chimpazilla and Morgan from The Legend of Zelda, Ocarina of Time.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_03: What is this?
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_03: Newcomer Month?
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_03: Land Party and Theology off to a strong start with some groovy house beats from Pokemon Diamond, Instant Classic, and some Shovel Knight goodness.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_03: I don't know if I mentioned this on the pod, and I'm sure to get a little flack for it, but when Shovel Knight came out, it was my game of the decade.
- 1:03:33SPEAKER_03: Pretty much everything I've ever wanted in a video game.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_03: It did an amazing job at capturing all the good things about classic platformers while avoiding the frustrating things.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_03: Alright, let's get on to some more music.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_03: So that was Under a Summer Moon by Minus World, Lady Varda, Deluxe Dolomite, Mathmatat, Optimiza Sean, and Stephen Higby from The Oregon Trail.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_03: After that we had Howls of the Black Wind by Wispy Woodwinds from Chrono Trigger.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_03: After that was Pasio de los Hermanos by Audio Mocha from Brothers, A Tale of Two Sons.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_03: Finally, Into the Icy Caverns by Timaeus 222 from Pokemon Crystal.
- 1:18:12SPEAKER_03: And I was gonna joke that this was the acoustic block until that last track.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_03: Which is a great take on a couple of Pokemon themes, one of which I even remember.
- 1:18:22SPEAKER_03: I was most definitely a Pokemon Blue kid.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_03: My younger brother has kept up with the series, playing, I think, at least one game from every single Pokemon gen, and he revisits the older ones pretty frequently, too.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_03: But I sort of fell off, and I only revisit the series sporadically.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_03: I played some of uh Sun and Moon, I played some of Sword and Shield, but you know, I skipped some in-between ones.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_03: See, the problem is I played Dragon Warrior Monsters, which now we know as Dragon Quest Monsters, but back in the day, Dragon Warrior.
- 1:18:59SPEAKER_03: But that led me down this whole other JRPG rabbit hole that I still find myself in.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_03: And of course, another of my childhood favorites, and by favorites, I mean the entertainment that I was allowed to enjoy, I guess, on a school night.
- 1:19:18SPEAKER_03: Oregon Trail.
- 1:19:20SPEAKER_03: I could have sworn we had an Oregon Trail mix on the site already, but nope.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_03: This is the first.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_03: Alright, let's listen to some more music.
- 1:33:50SPEAKER_03: Monkey Blood.
- 1:33:52SPEAKER_03: That was I Want to Go Home by Male Decision, Nemo Fairlight, and Paradise Josh from Donkey Kong Country.
- 1:34:00SPEAKER_03: Followed by Rose Gray by Creedask from Donkey Kong Country 2.
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_03: After that was Philassophobia by Emulator and Morgan from Donkey Kong Country 3.
- 1:34:13SPEAKER_03: And finally, Toy Works Terror by Argyll from Donkey Kong Country 64.
- 1:34:19SPEAKER_03: So Donkey Kong Country turned 31 in November, which is a right proper adult age, I should know.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_03: And to celebrate, there was a gigantic pile of monkey mixed posts.
- 1:34:32SPEAKER_03: Some of these are from Dwelling of Duels originally, some of these are just mixed posts that were saved for a special occasion.
- 1:34:40SPEAKER_03: And has been the theme for this month.
- 1:34:42SPEAKER_03: One of these is a newcomer.
- 1:34:44SPEAKER_03: A warm OCR pod welcome to Pre-Dask, aka the combo of Japanese arranger and producer Tomoyuki Sakakira and vocalist Aika Pim, who cite composer David Wise as a big influence, not just for this track, but for their music careers in general.
- 1:35:02SPEAKER_03: More monkey music coming right up.
- 1:51:57SPEAKER_03: Alright, first things first we had Command and Kong Quer, both spelled with a K, from JN Wake, Ronan Opf, and The Man PF from Donkey Kong Country 2.
- 1:52:10SPEAKER_03: Also from Donkey Kong Country 2, Blackthorn, by Hemophiliac, Prophetic Music, and Stephen Hewitt.
- 1:52:18SPEAKER_03: Following that, we had Mechanomania from Morgan and Eminator from Donkey Kong Country.
- 1:52:24SPEAKER_03: And finally, At the Heart of Yggdrasil by I think it's pronounced Heat, but it's H36T, Gravity Gauntlet, Pixels and Paradiddles, Ronald Poe and Mobius from Streets of Rage, and also Etri and Odyssey.
- 1:52:41SPEAKER_03: Now, for those of you not in the know, fellow podcaster and host of Mega Mixtape Now wrangled and organized and led an incredible new VGM album called Feature Length.
- 1:52:53SPEAKER_03: You can and should go grab it at Megamixtape.com.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_03: And to give you a taste of the goodness, we have the cross-posted track Command and Conquer, which is a jazzy monkey prog masterpiece.
- 1:53:08SPEAKER_03: Monkey Prog being, of course, one of my favorite prog subgenres.
- 1:53:12SPEAKER_03: I gotta say, as a prog fan, I have eaten well this year.
- 1:53:16SPEAKER_03: This has just been an incredible year for prog on OCR.
- 1:53:19SPEAKER_03: And also jazz.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_03: And also, I hear you, Humophaliac.
- 1:53:24SPEAKER_03: That is a smooth sticker push symphony.
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_03: Gotta also shout out Morgan, who went from debuting in April to having seven mixed posts.
- 1:53:34SPEAKER_03: That's gotta be some kind of record.
- 2:10:35SPEAKER_03: That was Yazoo by Zack Parrish, Gamer of the Winds, Prophetic Music, and T.
- 2:10:40SPEAKER_03: Sori from Croc, Legend of the Gabos.
- 2:10:44SPEAKER_03: After that was Asgore in Wonderland by Lucas Guimares from Undertale.
- 2:10:49SPEAKER_03: Following that was Middy's Lament by Chimpazilla and Trait from The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess.
- 2:10:56SPEAKER_03: Finally, we have Catactras by Rakos from Chronicon.
- 2:11:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, Krok.
- 2:11:04SPEAKER_03: I don't know why, but I really, really wanted to play Kroc when it came out.
- 2:11:09SPEAKER_03: Alas, I did not have any of the newfangled 3D consoles, and I couldn't stoke enough interest for a weekend rental from any of my friends who did have the newfangled 3D consoles.
- 2:11:20SPEAKER_03: They were all busy with Crash Bandicoot, or in the case of the one guy I knew who had a Sega Saturn, alien trilogy.
- 2:11:28SPEAKER_03: I've heard in the end the game was kinda mediocre, but but what was not mediocre at all was that bouncy little mix.
- 2:11:35SPEAKER_03: Very reminiscent of Mario 3D World.
- 2:11:38SPEAKER_03: Anyway, time for that segment.
- 2:12:13SPEAKER_03: So, what you're hearing right now is Hakaranda Dreams by Diluk from SimCity 4, and also from the new album Time Shift.
- 2:12:24SPEAKER_03: And I hope you guys are ready for something different.
- 2:12:27SPEAKER_03: We had a bit of a birthday bash a couple of weeks ago, and recorded the whole thing.
- 2:12:34SPEAKER_03: This is the podcast's very first segment where you can listen to someone besides me.
- 2:12:40SPEAKER_03: And we're talking Time Shift.
- 2:12:42SPEAKER_03: So I guess this is the live section of the podcast, so all the listeners are about to figure out that uh if I don't write it ahead of time, I'm not particularly eloquent.
- 2:12:51SPEAKER_03: Um, but maybe these other people are.
- 2:12:56SPEAKER_03: Uh how about we introduce ourselves in alphabetical order, starting with which is convenient because that's how Discord lists everyone, which means I'll be last, but Colorado will be first.
- 2:13:09SPEAKER_07: Oh, hi.
- 2:13:10SPEAKER_07: Um, I'm Colorado Weeks, singer, songwriter, spam bot.
- 2:13:15SPEAKER_07: I'll I'll put it as audio poop poster.
- 2:13:19SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 2:13:19SPEAKER_07: I I do remixes and I post a lot of memes.
- 2:13:23SPEAKER_07: Alright, next.
- 2:13:25SPEAKER_04: Alright, hey, uh what's up?
- 2:13:27SPEAKER_04: It's your boy, David El Puga.
- 2:13:30SPEAKER_04: Uh I do music and I do other things.
- 2:13:33SPEAKER_04: Uh been on OCR for a while.
- 2:13:35SPEAKER_04: I did badass albums.
- 2:13:38SPEAKER_04: Which uh oddly enough, uh December is the anniversary of.
- 2:13:42SPEAKER_04: And uh great to be here, guys.
- 2:13:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:13:45SPEAKER_11: Hi there, uh my name is Tylock.
- 2:13:48SPEAKER_11: I'm the uh director of the Time Shift album.
- 2:13:52SPEAKER_11: I'm also singer, songwriter, uh making uh silly little things uh occasionally that uh make their way into GameSet Mesh and hopefully across the uh uh into the good box of the judges panel.
- 2:14:09SPEAKER_03: Well we we do have some judges here, so now's a good time to butter them up.
- 2:14:13SPEAKER_03: Uh hi, I'm Paradidals Josh.
- 2:14:16SPEAKER_13: I'm Pixel Seth, our artist, guitarist and drummer, pixel artist, game designer, you know, the whole deal.
- 2:14:23SPEAKER_13: Straight.
- 2:14:24SPEAKER_13: Also the twins.
- 2:14:25SPEAKER_13: I mean, you'll you'll see us around.
- 2:14:27SPEAKER_13: We have probably yes and or no to your tracks.
- 2:14:30SPEAKER_03: I think and the pot I have referred to you at some point as the twin sages.
- 2:14:34SPEAKER_03: Uh we were for a time.
- 2:14:37SPEAKER_03: Indeed.
- 2:14:37SPEAKER_03: And also, you know, Final Fantasy IV is a fun thing to reference.
- 2:14:42SPEAKER_03: Uh alright.
- 2:14:44SPEAKER_03: We've we've got a big jump in the alphabet now.
- 2:14:46SPEAKER_03: Yep, and um I've I've been remixing for quite some time um as well.
- 2:14:50SPEAKER_03: Um is it really Zalif?
- 2:14:52SPEAKER_03: I've been pronouncing it Zalif this whole time.
- 2:14:55SPEAKER_08: Ah, it's totally fine.
- 2:14:56SPEAKER_03: Not a fun.
- 2:14:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I don't like it.
- 2:15:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I know I I've I've heard people pronounce it Shalef, Exalif, um, Zalif.
- 2:15:04SPEAKER_08: It's it's fine.
- 2:15:04SPEAKER_08: I'm I'm not I'm not judging anybody on it.
- 2:15:07SPEAKER_08: It's it's a it's a made-up word.
- 2:15:09SPEAKER_08: Um so that it it totally works out.
- 2:15:11SPEAKER_08: But yeah, so I've I've been mixing for quite some time.
- 2:15:14SPEAKER_08: Um I think my first mix was in 2002, 2003, something somewhere in there.
- 2:15:20SPEAKER_08: Um maybe it was sooner than that, I can't remember.
- 2:15:22SPEAKER_08: But yeah, it was it was it's it's been some time.
- 2:15:24SPEAKER_08: Uh kind of doing it.
- 2:15:26SPEAKER_08: I'm also a sage.
- 2:15:27SPEAKER_08: Um, so um I help out people with their mixes and um do office hours and stuff.
- 2:15:33SPEAKER_13: Yeah, some of us have been listening uh to Son of Chaos for like a million years on our long time.
- 2:15:40SPEAKER_03: I guess that leaves me.
- 2:15:42SPEAKER_03: I'll reintroduce myself because at this point, by this point I will have introduced myself.
- 2:15:47SPEAKER_03: I'm Zach, I host this podcast, I played Mandolin badly, and I have made uh chiptune once.
- 2:15:56SPEAKER_03: Okay, before we all got together on Discord to record, uh I asked everyone to pick a track from Time Shift, uh, which is the new hotness uh that has dropped this month.
- 2:16:13SPEAKER_03: Uh and also we've got the director of that album here, which is amazing.
- 2:16:17SPEAKER_03: Uh but I asked everyone to pick a track, uh, and the only criteria is you want to talk about it.
- 2:16:24SPEAKER_03: It y it doesn't have to be your track, you don't even have to like it, but you do have to want to talk about it.
- 2:16:30SPEAKER_03: So, uh let's everyone talk some music.
- 2:16:35SPEAKER_03: Uh let's go same order again.
- 2:16:37SPEAKER_03: Colorado, tell us about the Well actually no, before we do that, Dylack, tell everyone about the concept of this album and where it came from.
- 2:16:46SPEAKER_11: Legitimately, it was a shower thought.
- 2:16:49SPEAKER_11: Um, I literally was thinking about the impending uh 25th anniversary of Overclock Remix, and it's like, we need to do something about this.
- 2:16:59SPEAKER_11: We ought to go do this, what can we do?
- 2:17:01SPEAKER_11: And so I was like, well, let's let's make an album.
- 2:17:03SPEAKER_11: Okay, how would I structure this album?
- 2:17:06SPEAKER_11: And so I was thought, well, hold on.
- 2:17:08SPEAKER_11: There's all this new music that's happened over the past 25 years that's um now become modern classics of uh video game music.
- 2:17:17SPEAKER_11: And so I was like, well, why don't we look into that?
- 2:17:20SPEAKER_11: And so everyone who's older than the site, so um their birthday is before December 11, 1999, um basically have to um remix from any game that was released after OCR was uh founded, uh, or the first remix came out, which is December 11, uh 1999.
- 2:17:42SPEAKER_11: And uh anyone younger than the site remixes from a time before the side that way we get um a sort of a new nostalgia happening, and people are put outside of the time that they know, and that hence the name of the album being Time Shift.
- 2:17:58SPEAKER_11: So that's basically the concept.
- 2:18:00SPEAKER_11: So it was it's the 25th anniversary album for Overclock Remix.
- 2:18:04SPEAKER_11: Uh most of the music is looking at stuff from the past 25 years, however, uh JSA Blixa being the only artist on the album younger than the site uh had to remix from before the pounding, and it's uh really interesting to see what uh they've done with the uh with the classics.
- 2:18:23SPEAKER_11: So yeah, that's basically the album in a nutshell.
- 2:18:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I I think it's fair fair to say that uh a lot of remixers have aged with the site.
- 2:18:31SPEAKER_03: But yeah, uh big shout out to JSA Blixer for providing what four tracks?
- 2:18:36SPEAKER_11: Uh yeah, four well, three tracks and uh contributing to uh another one.
- 2:18:42SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 2:18:43SPEAKER_11: Also uh Audio Mint as well is uh younger than the site and contribute to uh one of the tracks as well.
- 2:18:50SPEAKER_03: Uh well cool.
- 2:18:52SPEAKER_03: We all picked uh a track that we want to talk about.
- 2:18:55SPEAKER_03: So uh Colorado, why don't you tell us uh uh tell us what track you picked and uh why you picked it and what you want to say about it?
- 2:19:04SPEAKER_07: Uh sure.
- 2:19:05SPEAKER_07: Uh let me try and remember how this goes.
- 2:19:08SPEAKER_07: I've been calling it like Fish Man Overclocked Alarm Mix, all caps.
- 2:19:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, actually, but before you go how it goes, does anyone can anyone with any confidence, without looking at it, say the full name of this track?
- 2:19:24SPEAKER_03: That's not D-Luck.
- 2:19:26SPEAKER_03: That's not Diluck.
- 2:19:27SPEAKER_03: I got it.
- 2:19:28SPEAKER_13: It is the proven it is the all-inclusive, exclusive club for hairy fishmen who shoot forever turbo alarm clocks.
- 2:20:11SPEAKER_03: Hi, Colorado.
- 2:20:14SPEAKER_03: Hi, Colorado.
- 2:20:16SPEAKER_07: One more time, the name of that track was uh the all-inclusive exclusive club for Harry Fishman who shoot forever turbo alarm clocks.
- 2:20:29SPEAKER_03: Other than the magnificent name, why did you choose this track?
- 2:20:34SPEAKER_07: Um, so has anyone here played Lisa the Painful or anything in the Lisa trilogy?
- 2:20:41SPEAKER_03: Never even heard of it.
- 2:20:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I I am not aware of this game.
- 2:20:46SPEAKER_07: Um, so I did a little bit of uh, you know, background research to kind of see the context of this game.
- 2:20:54SPEAKER_07: And if you're looking for, you know, cozy, feel good, uh, this is not that game.
- 2:21:01SPEAKER_07: If you're looking for cozy, if you're looking for feel good, this is definitely not that game.
- 2:21:06SPEAKER_07: It is dark, it is upsetting, you know, it's uh dealing with very heavy subject manner, including the cycle of abuse, but despite all of that darkness, um, it is humorous, it's got a lot of heart, and it's just so absurd, just like this track.
- 2:21:25SPEAKER_07: I'm all for like a really out there remix, but it is really something special to have such an out there interpretation of the track, but still embody the spirit of the game, which is what I think 100% Roamer 100% did with this track.
- 2:21:49SPEAKER_07: Um it's an assault on the ears in the best way, it's harsh, it's hard-hitting, but it's a lot of fun, it's bizarre, and um 100% Roamer uh bills himself as someone uh who makes music for fish.
- 2:22:07SPEAKER_07: I might not be in the Target demographic, but I enjoyed it so much.
- 2:22:12SPEAKER_03: So I almost picked this track, uh, and it's it's funny that you say music for fish because this really reminds me of the soundtrack to G Darius, which I think I've talked up on the podcast before, uh, and on the Discord, which is yeah, it's very similar to this track.
- 2:22:32SPEAKER_03: Um I I enjoyed it a lot.
- 2:22:35SPEAKER_11: I just want to say that the entirety of the indigo section is built around this track.
- 2:22:39SPEAKER_11: That's why everything is where it is.
- 2:22:42SPEAKER_13: It was interesting uh listening to it in the whatnot, like the release candidate.
- 2:22:48SPEAKER_13: We did uh like a final workshop listen through of the the album um before we finalized it and like sent it off to Chris Kohler to get mastered.
- 2:22:56SPEAKER_13: And most of us had not heard it.
- 2:22:59SPEAKER_13: Like uh Romer kept it like pretty close to the chest.
- 2:23:02SPEAKER_13: Yeah, he and several other uh mixes that ended up being on the final release, we didn't even get to hear until like that listen through.
- 2:23:11SPEAKER_13: And for most of us, we were like, What is with these crazy ass noises?
- 2:23:15SPEAKER_13: What is going on here?
- 2:23:16SPEAKER_13: This doesn't make any sense.
- 2:23:18SPEAKER_13: It's wild.
- 2:23:19SPEAKER_13: I I don't know what's happening, and I enjoyed it, question mark.
- 2:23:24SPEAKER_13: It it it's one that it it grew on me.
- 2:23:27SPEAKER_13: It uh the first time I heard it, I was bamboozled, and then I'm grew to accept it.
- 2:23:33SPEAKER_04: It's one of the tracks that kind of really again, not to go back to, but like my it's been on my in my brain because of the month.
- 2:23:39SPEAKER_04: Uh, it really sounds like something that would be in a badass album to me.
- 2:23:46SPEAKER_04: Like, it's just really like we always tried to push what was an OCR remix, you know, like uh, and and do really encourage people to do really interesting things, and and sometimes you would get something like this, and it really did screen that kind of ethos of like just make something cool and fun, who gives a sh, you know, if you want.
- 2:24:06SPEAKER_04: Uh and yeah, I I just really enjoy and you know the naming convention there is is that's great.
- 2:24:12SPEAKER_04: I love when you can get a title and make it its own sentence, uh, and make people wonder, like, what is this about just based on the title, make them want to listen to it, and that's that's great.
- 2:24:24SPEAKER_13: Buddy of mine uh who is on YouTube doing some philosophical Discord avatar is Harvey Alabaster from Lisa the Painful.
- 2:24:35SPEAKER_13: And so once uh once we've got all the all the sight rigumerole figured out and it's uh posted on the page, I'm gonna make sure that Fish gets a chance to listen to this because I think they will enjoy it very much.
- 2:24:47SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I it's a fantastic track.
- 2:24:50SPEAKER_03: Um and if you guys enjoyed it and you haven't listened to the G Doria soundtrack yet, that's your homework.
- 2:24:56SPEAKER_03: Cool! Uh DLP.
- 2:24:59SPEAKER_03: You uh uh you want to talk about the track you picked?
- 2:25:01SPEAKER_04: We already kind of talked about what I wanted to get into, but I'll just continue on that conversation.
- 2:25:05SPEAKER_04: I picked uh JSA Blixer, I believe is how you say it.
- 2:25:09SPEAKER_04: Um and in particular, I picked uh the uh quarters of time shift.
- 2:25:45SPEAKER_04: Uh track.
- 2:25:46SPEAKER_04: I I went back and forth between all three of them.
- 2:25:49SPEAKER_04: Um mostly because I just appreciate the hustle of the of of taking on that many tracks on a pr on a project.
- 2:25:56SPEAKER_04: I've done that before, uh, and it's never an easy task.
- 2:26:01SPEAKER_04: Uh and yeah, every single one of them just hit really hard.
- 2:26:05SPEAKER_04: And you know, I I started doing uh Chip Tune, modern chiptunes, what I call it, and it's really hard to get that to sound great and like stand on its own and to do that that many times in an album with that many different old classic tracks and making them sound new, and also kind of nostalgic in a different way, because I I haven't played uh Chrono Trigger, I know, uh, and there's a lot of stuff I need to catch up on, but it reminded me a lot of the Cave Stories uh soundtrack from when I was a younger man.
- 2:26:37SPEAKER_04: Uh and it was great to be able to hear that kind of like, you know.
- 2:26:43SPEAKER_04: Still getting nostalgia from a thing that I never played from other things in it.
- 2:26:47SPEAKER_04: Like the instrumentation, the way it's it's put together.
- 2:26:50SPEAKER_04: It was just really hitting everything I needed to hit to just make me think of you know simpler times, if you will, but also like just jamming and groovy at the same time.
- 2:27:03SPEAKER_04: Uh and you know, again, just that many tracks on one album, that is, you know, applause here.
- 2:27:10SPEAKER_04: Uh and yeah, you know, just just just well done.
- 2:27:13SPEAKER_03: Huge props.
- 2:27:15SPEAKER_03: And I I also really appreciated uh the choice of Quarters of Time in particular, because I'm I'm scrolling through now and I think that is the oh no, that is I think the second most remixed song on all of OCR.
- 2:27:33SPEAKER_03: Like Corridors of Time has oh yeah, Quarters of Time has 30 remixes.
- 2:27:38SPEAKER_03: It's beaten by Terra from Final Fantasy VI, which has 33.
- 2:27:43SPEAKER_03: Um, but like I I really appreciate that as, you know, given the concept of the album and the inspiration for the album, to do something that has that much history on OCR.
- 2:27:54SPEAKER_11: Definitely.
- 2:27:54SPEAKER_11: That was sort of that was also part of the uh appeal um that I wanted with the album as well, is to look back uh at the past 25 years and I call uh Corridors of Time the national anthem source of overclock remix.
- 2:28:09SPEAKER_11: Um I like that because it it's basically it's I mean, yeah, okay, Terror and uh Legend of Zelda uh Hyrule Field theme.
- 2:28:19SPEAKER_11: Um yeah, okay, they might get more remixes, but there's something very iconic about um about the Seal Kingdom theme, and I think in a way Overclock remix has made it its own.
- 2:28:31SPEAKER_11: And um just yeah, like what uh David said, the nostalgia in this um is amazing.
- 2:28:39SPEAKER_13: Uh there's two things I want to jump in here and say.
- 2:28:43SPEAKER_13: Uh having uh I think everyone here except for DLP and Zach have worked with uh Blixr uh as like in some fashion.
- 2:28:53SPEAKER_13: Um and so we can all sort of speak to that a little bit.
- 2:28:56SPEAKER_13: So JSA Blixr does she pulls from hardware.
- 2:29:02SPEAKER_13: Uh all of all of her Game Boy Color sounds and Game Boy sounds are off of LSDJ, like right from the hardware, and I believe it's two Game Boys recorded in total.
- 2:29:13SPEAKER_13: Um occasionally she'll use an emulator for GVA sounds, um, but LSDJ with two Game Boys is the typical setup.
- 2:29:21SPEAKER_13: And in corridors of Tineships specifically, the sounds that you hear between the brakes, like the kind of bookend section one and uh section three, that's uh those are that's fully that JSA recorded of pulling out the cartridge and loading it in and then also blowing it to clear the you know the old school blowing on the cartridge sound.
- 2:29:46SPEAKER_13: Like that's that's recorded in there.
- 2:29:48SPEAKER_13: Um and it's it's enjoyable working with Blixr getting chips right from it, even if it's also sometimes a headache and a little bit of a pain to mix over and over.
- 2:30:00SPEAKER_04: That just makes it wow.
- 2:30:02SPEAKER_04: That it adds a whole new dimension to it.
- 2:30:04SPEAKER_13: Yep.
- 2:30:05SPEAKER_04: Amazing.
- 2:30:06SPEAKER_04: JC Blixr, you have become a new favorite of mine.
- 2:30:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's incredible.
- 2:30:13SPEAKER_03: Um I think it's uh the game composer and chip tuner Chipzil does uh the same thing.
- 2:30:23SPEAKER_03: Uh you know, uh all the games she's worked on have been like two Game Boys, uh LSDJ, just go.
- 2:30:31SPEAKER_04: Uh two Game Boy cartridges and a microphone, hell yeah.
- 2:30:35SPEAKER_13: Yeah, exactly.
- 2:30:38SPEAKER_13: That was a Game Boy break.
- 2:30:40SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it still amazes me with uh Blitz.
- 2:30:43SPEAKER_07: Like, she is making music on hardware that is much older than her.
- 2:30:50SPEAKER_03: So yes, that is the truth.
- 2:30:55SPEAKER_03: I wanted to argue about the the word much, uh, but I think I just need to admit that I'm old.
- 2:31:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean that hurt me to hear that.
- 2:31:02SPEAKER_04: I was like, oh god.
- 2:31:05SPEAKER_13: We'll say those pulse channels on the Game Boy Color have a very special place in my heart as someone who played a lot of Pokemon Blue and Pokemon Gold on long road trips.
- 2:31:15SPEAKER_13: Every time Blixir puts out something new.
- 2:31:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh Josh and I have a side project with Blixr that we call Audio Processing Unit, uh, that we've done a couple of tracks together, and I I look forward to doing more in 2026.
- 2:31:31SPEAKER_13: I I look forward to hearing them.
- 2:31:33SPEAKER_04: I need to start a whole new project to work with her, I think, at this point.
- 2:31:38SPEAKER_08: Yep, so one one thing I would say is um I've worked with her on quite a few collabs.
- 2:31:44SPEAKER_08: Um and I would say like even if she didn't use the LSDJ, I her attention to music in general and uh theory and um I don't know, like it's it's she's incredibly creative, but it's incredibly solid.
- 2:32:02SPEAKER_08: Like all of her songs are are really well formed.
- 2:32:05SPEAKER_08: Um so anytime she asks me for advice, usually it's it's something that's incredibly minor.
- 2:32:11SPEAKER_08: Like it's um like she she already has most of the the things that she needs in spades.
- 2:32:17SPEAKER_04: Um what shows in every track in this this project, go listen to it if you haven't.
- 2:32:23SPEAKER_04: Any one of them, all of them.
- 2:32:25SPEAKER_04: Listen to the album.
- 2:32:26SPEAKER_04: Who am I talking about?
- 2:32:27SPEAKER_04: Listen to the whole thing.
- 2:32:29SPEAKER_04: Listen to uh listen to Blix's tracks, and yeah, they you can hear everything you just said, Zelov.
- 2:32:35SPEAKER_04: It it's yeah.
- 2:32:36SPEAKER_11: I think the only advice I had to give it was basically hey, there's a frequency that's coming through, make sure you uh EQ that out.
- 2:32:42SPEAKER_11: That was that's all I had to say.
- 2:32:43SPEAKER_03: So what I'm hearing is she makes things easy on the judges.
- 2:32:47SPEAKER_13: Well good guess, but actually no.
- 2:32:49SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh historically, Chiptune has a hard time um passing the panel unless it's like Chiptune Plus.
- 2:32:57SPEAKER_03: I yeah, I remember uh I'm gonna really show my age here.
- 2:33:01SPEAKER_03: There's a maze dude track from Earthbound called I think C64, but like spelled out.
- 2:33:08SPEAKER_03: Um and I remember there being like drama about that track.
- 2:33:13SPEAKER_13: Classic track, by the way.
- 2:33:14SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, absolutely classic.
- 2:33:16SPEAKER_13: It's it like chiptune is one of those things on the panel that if you are being historically accurate and like uh limited exclusively to what the hardware is capable of, the panel isn't gonna like it very much because it's mono, it has a lot of annoying to listen to frequencies, and unless the programming of it musically is such that despite all of that, it's too good to pass, it's gonna get no for not being stereo, for uh having limited voicing, for having too much repetition, etc.
- 2:33:53SPEAKER_13: etc.
- 2:33:54SPEAKER_13: Like chip tune alone struggles a lot on the panel.
- 2:33:58SPEAKER_03: Even if it's too Game Boys?
- 2:34:01SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh, because if there isn't any uh if there's no stereo effects or like anything that makes the mixing like make it pop, it's hard for one of those to stand out, even from an arrangement standpoint, because you know OCR loves having a well-produced for a hobbyist, you know, mix.
- 2:34:21SPEAKER_04: So everybody listening out there, you just dump a stereo widener on it.
- 2:34:25SPEAKER_04: Just have fun.
- 2:34:27SPEAKER_03: Um there's a chip tuner named uh VAV, VAV, that I forget what they call it, but basically uh at some point uh actually made a hardware device capable of doing this, but put together like the the sound chips of the Game Boy, the Super Nintendo, and the Sega Genesis, and makes these amazing combo chip tunes.
- 2:34:54SPEAKER_03: Um not really relevant to Time Shift, just I wanted to say everyone go listen.
- 2:35:01SPEAKER_03: Uh cool, Dilek, uh album director.
- 2:35:06SPEAKER_03: What track uh did you bring?
- 2:35:08SPEAKER_03: And I I want to clarify, you know, this isn't necessarily your favorite.
- 2:35:12SPEAKER_03: I'm sure you don't play favorites.
- 2:35:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, but what track did you did you bring to show and tell?
- 2:35:18SPEAKER_11: Uh well, yeah, I I've heard uh all of 19 tracks on this so many times.
- 2:35:24SPEAKER_11: Um, but the one that I find myself coming back to again and again is uh Morgan's track, uh Along Night Till Morning Comes.
- 2:36:17SPEAKER_11: Um Morgan really dug into their um nostalgia and their memories, and they um really um basically were like um well what what really means something to me and so they uh went for Animal Crossing Wild World and the whole of their um whole of it is based off uh the 1am tune, which is normally a tune that not many people are familiar with given its time of day when it when it plays, and of course Animal Crossing being a time-based uh game in real time, uh unless you do silly things that make um moles mad.
- 2:36:57SPEAKER_11: But anyway, um the uh um the thing about that really gets to me is the nostalgia and Morgan captures it.
- 2:37:05SPEAKER_11: Um it's got all these wonderful elements all just mixed together into this beautiful swirling spiraling form.
- 2:37:16SPEAKER_11: Uh it's it's basically it's a three-act play.
- 2:37:19SPEAKER_11: Um we go from the 1am theme uh into the middle section and um around around 125 in it, that um percussion is actually a DS stylus being tapped on the DS.
- 2:37:36SPEAKER_11: Um no way! Yeah, that's um that's what that is.
- 2:37:41SPEAKER_11: Oh that's great.
- 2:37:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's uh it's an absolute genius move.
- 2:37:46SPEAKER_11: And then um they did a reverse guitar of the roost theme that comes in around 1 minute 50, and that gets me every time.
- 2:37:55SPEAKER_11: It's something so I mean I mean it's just the it's just the cafe theme, but there's something so heartfelt and so yearning and longing for simpler times in that tune.
- 2:38:09SPEAKER_11: Um it then just basically ends on a um uh it ends on on a sadness because I mean it's nostalgia and it's it's you know meant to be uh represent those nights of all game all night gaming that we did when we were younger.
- 2:38:23SPEAKER_11: And of course, you know, we sort of remember back on those times with joy and with sadness because we can't really do that much these days as soon as you know we all grow up, we have a life.
- 2:38:33SPEAKER_04: But I mean we can do it, but we're gonna regret it.
- 2:38:36SPEAKER_11: I'm just gonna do it.
- 2:38:36SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 2:38:37SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 2:38:38SPEAKER_11: But the the other thing about this track is when I went to Jose uh or Jose came to me and said, How do you want the trailer to be built?
- 2:38:47SPEAKER_11: I was like, okay, uh, I want first quarter of Jacaranda Dreams as the opening, I want corridors of time mixed through it, and I want the end of um a long night till morning comes to be the final notes you hear in the trailer.
- 2:39:02SPEAKER_11: Um so just because of that whole nostalgia um aspect of it, and so that's why it's the last notes in the trailer.
- 2:39:12SPEAKER_03: So I think this is the fourth Morgan track on the podcast.
- 2:39:18SPEAKER_03: Uh and I don't have the musical vocabulary, but Morgan has like a sound, and I love it.
- 2:39:29SPEAKER_03: And maybe one of you has like more of the musical vocabulary to talk about this, but there's just something I I I don't have the words.
- 2:39:39SPEAKER_13: I wish I could speak to the more to the musicality.
- 2:39:43SPEAKER_13: Uh Morgan as a producer, uh not just for music, but like doing videos uh on YouTube.
- 2:39:51SPEAKER_13: It is well worth your time if you're a musician.
- 2:39:54SPEAKER_13: Uh Morgan has a like historical deep dive.
- 2:39:57SPEAKER_13: I think it's like an hour or something long.
- 2:39:59SPEAKER_13: Uh the premise is to build the perfect snare drum sound and like the history of the snare drum.
- 2:40:06SPEAKER_13: I'm not gonna spoil it.
- 2:40:08SPEAKER_13: It's well worth if you're a musician or not a musician, Morgan goes to the T of doing the research and then making the greatest snare drum sound of all time.
- 2:40:17SPEAKER_13: Uh and I say that without any hyperbole.
- 2:40:21SPEAKER_04: Uh even without hyperbole, finding a perfect drum sound sucks most of the time.
- 2:40:25SPEAKER_13: It does.
- 2:40:26SPEAKER_13: Uh, and you get to see Morgan's process the whole way through it.
- 2:40:29SPEAKER_13: Um, I I've I've gotten to work with Morgan on a few tracks.
- 2:40:33SPEAKER_13: Morgan is so fun to work with.
- 2:40:36SPEAKER_13: Uh in fact, if you work with uh either Morgan or uh Eminator, they both and it must be familial, they have this like exuberance when working with them.
- 2:40:48SPEAKER_13: Like there's an excitement, there's uh uh they have they're very yes and like uh collaborators, which is always fun to to work with people who are yes and and uh Morgan will go and like with as much creativity as you would hope for in a collaborative partner, find Foley, make weird samples, like just super fun.
- 2:41:13SPEAKER_13: I I I know we're not supposed to in dwelling in duels like uh break anonymity.
- 2:41:20SPEAKER_13: Occasion and I I think this is sort of what you're speaking to, Zach.
- 2:41:23SPEAKER_13: Like, uh we'll hear us uh like a track come on and it will sound like none of the other participants, and I'm like, is that Morgan?
- 2:41:31SPEAKER_12: It's gotta be Morgan, right?
- 2:41:34SPEAKER_03: Okay, so so first of all, I'm gonna ask you to drop that video in a link to that video in chat so that I can watch it later and also put it in the show notes.
- 2:41:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, because that sounds fascinating.
- 2:41:46SPEAKER_04: Could I say one more thing about this too?
- 2:41:49SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 2:41:50SPEAKER_04: And talking about like nostalgia and like OCR through the years, uh and I and I I hate to compare things, right?
- 2:41:57SPEAKER_04: Uh but this track, Morgan it had a very there's a specific subtype of song that got submitted uh for a while, and one of the the biggest, I guess the top of that that comes to my mind is Scripnik.
- 2:42:11SPEAKER_04: And it had that really Scriptnik sound in it, which I I love all of Scripnik's uh mixes from the site, and it really brought back that same kind of feeling I got from a lot of of those uh remixes, and and and I think that's really interesting in this, and that you know it's nostalg again, it's nostalgia in a bunch of different ways.
- 2:42:30SPEAKER_11: Oh, Scriptnik.
- 2:42:31SPEAKER_11: I like drums.
- 2:42:32SPEAKER_11: That's all you need to know.
- 2:42:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 2:42:35SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I just it was this whole album has really, really hit, I guess, what it's supposed to be, with that that time shift that you know through the OCR through the ages, if you will, which I hate because it keeps dating me.
- 2:42:46SPEAKER_04: But you know, it's really good job on this, everybody, you know, who had anything to do with this project, right?
- 2:42:56SPEAKER_04: And you for directing it.
- 2:42:58SPEAKER_04: Like, this is this is a great project.
- 2:43:01SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, we'll we'll get into it more when we get to my track, but like my criterion for the track I wanted to select was what hit me in the nostalgia the hardest.
- 2:43:11SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah.
- 2:43:12SPEAKER_03: Amazing round of applause applause, amazing project.
- 2:43:16SPEAKER_03: I'm so glad it came together.
- 2:43:18SPEAKER_11: Um I'm I'm really thrilled by it as well.
- 2:43:21SPEAKER_11: It it has been a journey and it's been such a a worthwhile experience.
- 2:43:26SPEAKER_03: So um Is this the first album you've directed?
- 2:43:29SPEAKER_11: This is the first album I've directed, and um I'm gonna go ahead and do it again uh sometime very soon, probably.
- 2:43:36SPEAKER_11: So, yes.
- 2:43:37SPEAKER_03: Ooh, ooh.
- 2:43:39SPEAKER_03: Is this a podcast scoop?
- 2:43:41SPEAKER_11: Uh this is a podcast scoop.
- 2:43:44SPEAKER_11: Uh so I mean I have mentioned it uh kind of in passing, and there's a couple of Easter eggs here and there around the place.
- 2:43:50SPEAKER_11: But um next project is going to be Illusion of Time, Stroke Illusion of Gaia, depending which side of the Atlantic you're from.
- 2:43:57SPEAKER_11: And um that's uh gonna be starting sometime in the new year.
- 2:44:01SPEAKER_03: I had no idea that game had a different name on the other side of the Atlantic.
- 2:44:05SPEAKER_11: Yeah, uh it was released in PAL Territories' Illusion of Time.
- 2:44:08SPEAKER_11: I guess it was um some sort of copywriting thing.
- 2:44:10SPEAKER_11: There's a difference between Star Wing and Star Fox same.
- 2:44:14SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 2:44:14SPEAKER_03: Well, cool.
- 2:44:16SPEAKER_03: Uh thanks for the scoop.
- 2:44:18SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll put like a news program sting in before that.
- 2:44:23SPEAKER_03: Paradiddles Josh, you wanna you wanna talk about your track?
- 2:44:26SPEAKER_03: Or not necessarily your track, but the track you picked.
- 2:44:29SPEAKER_03: So I did not pick my track.
- 2:44:31SPEAKER_03: Oh.
- 2:44:32SPEAKER_03: Oh, did I can't remember I can't remember who picked it back?
- 2:44:35SPEAKER_03: That's because I picked our track.
- 2:44:37SPEAKER_03: Oh I see.
- 2:44:40unknown: Yeah.
- 2:44:40SPEAKER_03: Alright, do the twin thing.
- 2:44:41SPEAKER_03: Talk about the track together.
- 2:44:43SPEAKER_03: Okay, but should should we do ours first?
- 2:44:47SPEAKER_13: No, you do yours first, and and we'll we'll segue to mine.
- 2:44:50SPEAKER_13: Okay, no worries.
- 2:44:51SPEAKER_13: No worries.
- 2:44:52SPEAKER_13: So I picked Shafts of Sunlight by Mel Decision featuring Trait, uh, covering City on the Mesa from Horizon Zero Dawn.
- 2:45:17SPEAKER_01: Oh great sun, make treaty with the moon to give our fallen quiet rest.
- 2:45:26SPEAKER_01: Furnish them with the armor of your brazen heat.
- 2:45:30SPEAKER_01: Give them shafts of sunlight for spears.
- 2:45:34SPEAKER_01: Illuminate the path to the skies for each one of them.
- 2:45:40SPEAKER_01: Let their memory and sacrifice be a beacon for all hunters, all people to follow.
- 2:45:56SPEAKER_13: Now I've never played the Horizon series, um, but clear that Mel brings a lot of her love and passion for the series track to the table, um, inside Shafts of Sunlight.
- 2:46:11SPEAKER_13: Um, we've heard both as collaborators on the album and as sages, um, this particular track in several of its work in progress forms.
- 2:46:23SPEAKER_13: And so, um, if you haven't heard a Mel Decision track, it's worth grabbing a few because Mel is not a remixer to be slept on.
- 2:46:34SPEAKER_13: There's some really cool stuff going on.
- 2:46:38SPEAKER_13: Um some of it is cool sound design that you know that Trey threw in, um, shaping the bass sound with a like with a bass preset and serum.
- 2:46:48SPEAKER_13: Um but there's also little bits like guitar and counter melodies.
- 2:46:53SPEAKER_13: But the overall design is a it's a synth wave track that is surprisingly more uplifting and um almost like Saka and sweet kinda compared to other synth wave that I've been exposed to.
- 2:47:11SPEAKER_13: Um there's a few really choice sound bites from Horizon Zero Dawn that that show up in the track.
- 2:47:19SPEAKER_13: Um and the the back third of it just has this amazing shift into a more heroic, triumphant kind of feel to it.
- 2:47:29SPEAKER_13: Um The Judges panel was a little split on it because it is kind of one note in terms of how it how it pushes rhythmically, but that's kind of a feature and not a bug when it comes to Synthwave.
- 2:47:43SPEAKER_13: Um I just it was really cool to see this one evolve, and that's why I picked it ultimately.
- 2:47:49SPEAKER_03: I also really enjoyed- I mean I enjoyed the whole album.
- 2:47:52SPEAKER_03: It was it was good, but I really enjoyed this track.
- 2:47:55SPEAKER_03: Uh despite the fact that I really did not enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn itself.
- 2:48:00SPEAKER_03: Like, I'm glad Mel is a huge fan.
- 2:48:03SPEAKER_03: Uh not the game for me though.
- 2:48:06SPEAKER_11: Yeah, um Shaft of Sunlight was the first um, well, in its uh various incarnations, it was the first um work in progress to be presented, and as soon as I heard it, I was like, okay, this album is gonna work.
- 2:48:21SPEAKER_11: We're on to something here.
- 2:48:23SPEAKER_11: So um it holds a special place for me as well because of it being the first uh work in progress and just sort of affirming that, yeah, I can do this, I can do this project.
- 2:48:34SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm curious as some uh as uh especially uh the the sages and judges here, uh having heard this uh in different incarnations, and of course also, you know, the director, having heard this track in different incarnations, uh at what point did all the NPC clips get thrown in?
- 2:48:53SPEAKER_03: Because I really enjoyed those.
- 2:48:55SPEAKER_13: I want to say immediately?
- 2:48:57SPEAKER_13: At least since the second work in progress, right?
- 2:49:00SPEAKER_13: Yeah, I think so, yeah.
- 2:49:02SPEAKER_13: Uh like the the volume of those sound clips uh had to be adjusted over the course of the whips.
- 2:49:10SPEAKER_13: Like that's that's one of the things that that really got you know honed in on for Mel's track.
- 2:49:16SPEAKER_13: Also, shout out to all the game set mash for Team Mega's homies.
- 2:49:21SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we got we got three of them here in the chat.
- 2:49:24SPEAKER_12: Yay! Hello.
- 2:49:26SPEAKER_13: We are your personal peacock.
- 2:49:27SPEAKER_13: Anyway.
- 2:49:30SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh I hate to be so self-indulgent.
- 2:49:33SPEAKER_13: Uh it's just I I rarely get to talk about this particular track.
- 2:49:37SPEAKER_13: So I I'm bringing Children of Light to the table, which is which is uh it so it's Final Fantasy Fourteen, specifically, it's a Realm Reborn and Shadowbringers.
- 2:50:42SPEAKER_13: Which is in the fandom, but in the player base at large, uh we like for Final Fantasy XIV, we seem to regard More Than Truth as the like kind of the main theme for your warrior of light.
- 2:50:56SPEAKER_13: It it plays during pivotal moments uh that are like key to the story in the the you know the main questline as you go through.
- 2:51:05SPEAKER_13: Uh yes, we do need more Final Fantasy XIV songs, and so I'm just doing my part.
- 2:51:11SPEAKER_13: Uh when Time Shift came up, I like there's a there's a lot of games that are uh young.
- 2:51:18SPEAKER_13: Are we calling them young for the purposes instead of like the oldies?
- 2:51:22SPEAKER_13: There's a lot of the youngins that I could have picked from, but I had just finished Shadowbringers.
- 2:51:27SPEAKER_04: Like I like modern because that makes me feel better.
- 2:51:30SPEAKER_13: Modern's good.
- 2:51:34SPEAKER_13: Uh I had just finished Shadowbringers, and Shadowbringers is a giant gut puncher from probably start to finish as an expansion.
- 2:51:45SPEAKER_13: Um I don't want to talk too much about the expansion itself, but the reason I picked it is because of the deep emotional draw.
- 2:51:53SPEAKER_13: Um I wanted to do uh like a big vocal track.
- 2:51:57SPEAKER_13: I wanted to do big nine-minute, you know, progressive metal uh like kind of take on that theme in the style of like Mastodon, which uh like there's a lot of like calls to that.
- 2:52:13SPEAKER_13: Like stylistically, I do a lot of you know, and I think you've called it out, Zach, in the show.
- 2:52:17SPEAKER_13: Like, there's a lot of kind of progressive metal stuff that comes from Pixels and Paradiddles.
- 2:52:22SPEAKER_13: We we draw a lot from like Gojira and Mastodon and and Tool.
- 2:52:27SPEAKER_03: When I'm not listening to video game music, I'm usually listening to progressive metal.
- 2:52:31SPEAKER_03: Uh and I would I you know there's sections of this that what I heard more than uh Mastodon or Tool uh was or Gojira even was uh I heard some Haken in there.
- 2:52:43SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh that's they're they're a little bit on my playlist.
- 2:52:47SPEAKER_13: Uh there's uh one of the inspirations in it also is uh oh what is the name of that band?
- 2:52:54SPEAKER_13: They do the song The Flood.
- 2:52:57SPEAKER_03: The first thing that came to mind was they might be giants, and that's definitely not it.
- 2:53:01SPEAKER_13: No, they were just on uh Museura.
- 2:53:04SPEAKER_13: Um Lepros.
- 2:53:06SPEAKER_13: There's an S in there, it just doesn't start with there.
- 2:53:08SPEAKER_13: Uh like Lepros was a huge inspiration for it.
- 2:53:11SPEAKER_13: Um specifically uh from Mastodon, I think it is the last Baron.
- 2:53:18SPEAKER_13: Um, the kind of the riff that is in the bridge that starts the bridge section is like the vast majority of like the underlying pieces of how it came together were like a set of riffs that I'd been practicing that had no melodic content to go over them, they were just riffs, and my everyone's got their own process for making things.
- 2:53:40SPEAKER_13: I tend to define how I start a remix by finding the riff, like quote unquote the riff, and then work from there.
- 2:53:49SPEAKER_13: And the riff can be anything.
- 2:53:51SPEAKER_13: In this case, it was the like the arpagiated guitar line that is underneath the like after you pass the intro when we get to the first ver vocal section.
- 2:54:02SPEAKER_13: That thing was the start of like once I could put more than truth over on top of that, everything clicked into place from there.
- 2:54:10SPEAKER_13: Um, and I was really concerned that there wasn't gonna be enough Final Fantasy in it, and so I was able to find ways to include uh like the prelude in it.
- 2:54:22SPEAKER_03: You got to, it's like a rule.
- 2:54:24SPEAKER_13: Uh I I hope it's a rule, uh, because it is now.
- 2:54:28SPEAKER_13: Uh I found a way to do it in 6-8 and 6-4 instead of in 4-4, which was harder to do than you might think.
- 2:54:36SPEAKER_13: Um especially not using um not using the exactly like underlying chord structures underneath it to have something you know different.
- 2:54:48SPEAKER_13: Um it it kind of pulls a little bit like a perfect circle during those sections.
- 2:54:54SPEAKER_13: Uh especially like with the guitar leads.
- 2:54:57SPEAKER_13: Um Welling of Duel's heads, we'll we'll notice that there's a particular uh saucy lead line that transitions out of the first guitar solo into like the thing at the bridge, and if you could spot it, yes, I did it just for you.
- 2:55:15SPEAKER_13: Um I did that to go in Jackaranda Dreams.
- 2:55:18SPEAKER_13: Yeah, like you you got it.
- 2:55:20SPEAKER_13: Uh this is a family podcast, so we will not be calling it by the tongue-in-cheap name, even though I want to.
- 2:55:28SPEAKER_13: Um I did it just for you.
- 2:55:30SPEAKER_13: I also uh put a call out to the like our workshop server for doing like the albums.
- 2:55:37SPEAKER_13: I wanted to get more vocalists on it and get kind of a big ol' warrior of light choir.
- 2:55:43SPEAKER_13: And I only got like maybe six or seven people who volunteered.
- 2:55:47SPEAKER_13: I would have loved to have gotten more, but you know, you gotta make the track.
- 2:55:51SPEAKER_13: You can't sit there and wait, you know, all day to get everything.
- 2:55:55SPEAKER_13: So, you know, Nicole Chang threw in, Diluck threw in, uh.
- 2:56:00SPEAKER_13: Adrian grabbed the gauntlet, threw in uh Voodoo Queen threw in more than what I asked, which was helpful to get more like harmony in some of the places.
- 2:56:10SPEAKER_13: Uh who am I missing?
- 2:56:11SPEAKER_13: Mobius threw in some synth V to kind of help fill out more of the harmonic stuff going on.
- 2:56:19SPEAKER_13: Uh, you don't really hear the synth V layers as much as like they're they're there.
- 2:56:23SPEAKER_13: Uh gosh me, I feel like I'm missing you're missing Mel.
- 2:56:28SPEAKER_13: I am missing Mel.
- 2:56:29SPEAKER_13: Is there one more?
- 2:56:30SPEAKER_13: I think that that might be it.
- 2:56:32SPEAKER_03: Let's look.
- 2:56:33SPEAKER_03: I think that's yeah, that's that's what's on the website.
- 2:56:36SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 2:56:37SPEAKER_04: So when does so you're saying the bottle in two is gonna come out and like everybody who wants to be a part of it?
- 2:56:42SPEAKER_13: That would be fantastic.
- 2:56:44SPEAKER_13: Although I did go kind of crazy mixing uh let's see, there are a hundred and ten instrument tracks, and there are sixty-seven vocal tracks across eight people.
- 2:56:59SPEAKER_04: That is awesome.
- 2:57:01SPEAKER_13: Wow, I you can't it it's way more than probably was necessary, but it it did the job.
- 2:57:09SPEAKER_13: The uh Adrian you can hear very clearly in the bridge section where it goes to answers from a realm reborn.
- 2:57:16SPEAKER_13: Adrian is the really low, like, like very guttural thing underneath.
- 2:57:23SPEAKER_13: Um Nicole has the only like true soprano up high.
- 2:57:27SPEAKER_13: Uh you've got Mel and VQ kind of holding out the altos.
- 2:57:32SPEAKER_13: I think Diluck and Josh and me kind of covered the rest of the tenor and bass stuff in there.
- 2:57:40SPEAKER_13: Although Adrian's had the more like characteristic in there, so his comes out more covering the low.
- 2:57:47SPEAKER_13: I think you get a lot of dialuk, and there's a little and then like Josh and I are sort of background in that helping filling out the space just to get more choral.
- 2:57:58SPEAKER_13: And worth it.
- 2:58:00SPEAKER_13: Like I uh we need more vocal tracks in the VGM community, and if you are a VGM, if you're a vocal VGM hater, every time you dislike one, I'm gonna make three more.
- 2:58:17SPEAKER_13: Your cringe is what fuels me, and I live for it.
- 2:58:22SPEAKER_03: Uh I will say I I really loved the way that this track ended.
- 2:58:28SPEAKER_03: Like, I just thought the ending like it was just like perfectly epic.
- 2:58:34SPEAKER_03: Uh the trailer was exactly what I wanted.
- 2:58:37SPEAKER_13: The trailer doing the transition from the big held out you know, riding home into Morgan's track is Chef Kiss.
- 2:58:48SPEAKER_13: So good.
- 2:58:49SPEAKER_13: Agreed.
- 2:58:51SPEAKER_13: 100%.
- 2:58:52SPEAKER_11: What were you gonna say, Diluk?
- 2:58:54SPEAKER_11: Uh could I just boast that I won the uh the long held note competition?
- 2:58:58SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 2:58:59SPEAKER_03: Uh Congratulations.
- 2:59:01SPEAKER_13: Yeah, in in the stems, Diluk that's uh that entire held note thing is like 16 seconds, I think.
- 2:59:12SPEAKER_13: Uh mine is the first to die off.
- 2:59:15SPEAKER_13: Um not because mostly because I couldn't.
- 2:59:18SPEAKER_13: Uh I left it in there without like doing a crossfade out where the note kind of dies off in a very you know, Roger Waters like Pink Floyd.
- 2:59:28SPEAKER_13: Like it's part of the emotion, is the like I can't give anymore.
- 2:59:32SPEAKER_13: Which is how I justify being bad at at singing.
- 2:59:36SPEAKER_04: I gave that one a good run.
- 2:59:41SPEAKER_13: I I gave that long note a good run, but no, Dialogue had it hands down.
- 2:59:45SPEAKER_13: Dialogue is the champ there.
- 2:59:47SPEAKER_13: Um so VQ provided the vast majority of the vocal harmonies for the verses and the choruses, although her takes were almost like they were so overlapping the same register as me that it like you would not be able to hear her in the mix.
- 3:00:07SPEAKER_13: Um through the magic of melodyne, which um melodyne cannot fix your take, but it can certainly change the pitch of it.
- 3:00:16SPEAKER_13: Uh, you can hear VQ a lot more clearly because I I've boosted her up in octave.
- 3:00:22SPEAKER_13: It's a thing that I don't like to do for a lot of vocals because I don't like to alter them fundamentally, but there would be no way to bring out her voice in this piece without doing so because there's there's a hundred and ten instrument tracks and almost all of them are in the mids.
- 3:00:39SPEAKER_13: Like I had to make sacrifices.
- 3:00:41SPEAKER_13: I altered mine uh worse.
- 3:00:44SPEAKER_13: The uh there's a lot of vocal harmony in there that's like, hmm, I I could not actually sing that.
- 3:00:49SPEAKER_13: That's thank goodness for modern technology.
- 3:00:53SPEAKER_13: And fortunately, the vocal harmony, the protein of a sandwich, is lying in a lovely bed of lush vegetables.
- 3:01:00SPEAKER_13: By which I mean woodwind parts that I played in on an Ewe.
- 3:01:05SPEAKER_13: And I can only think that it's a sign of good things from the judges that none of the feedback involves any criticism about those things.
- 3:01:13SPEAKER_13: Because most of the time my attempts with orchestral stuff involve uh the samples getting exposed and it sounding fake as hell.
- 3:01:21SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah, uh the the one issue that the the judges have, and I agree, um, is the the processing that I did on the vocal stacks um makes them really brittle in the the upper mids.
- 3:01:36SPEAKER_13: I did the the there's the there's a recording technique that they did in the 60s because of the tech and needing to do it, and if you do it now, it does not super help.
- 3:01:46SPEAKER_13: Um it's the Dolby tape or the Dolby A layer tape effect, where I'm not gonna get super nerdy about it.
- 3:01:53SPEAKER_13: You basically just oversaturate the the signal such that uh you reduce a lot of like tape hiss and recover some of signal back.
- 3:02:04SPEAKER_13: Like when you're recording to tape, like you lose a lot of things to tape hiss because of signal, and they found uh you know, a wonderful recording engineer found a way to fix that.
- 3:02:13SPEAKER_13: You don't have to do it now because we don't record to tape typically in our bedrooms, we're recording you know digitally to a disc.
- 3:02:22SPEAKER_13: So uh rightfully so they called out that like the the vocals are kind of brittle and in some places a tiny bit piercing depending on your setup.
- 3:02:30SPEAKER_13: So if I if I was going to do if I was gonna remix this remix, I would fix that.
- 3:02:35SPEAKER_13: But it is what it is.
- 3:02:37SPEAKER_13: I think it's good enough to not only be on the album but to join that catalog entirely.
- 3:02:42SPEAKER_13: Uh a great pivot from the track, uh uh, unless anyone has other things they want to say.
- 3:02:49SPEAKER_11: Well, the other thing I was gonna say was basically uh probably the pivot that I'm thinking of is that um it the album ends with uh a remix of a remix of the prelude and it starts with a remix of a remix of a prelude.
- 3:03:01SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 3:03:02SPEAKER_08: Let's pivot.
- 3:03:04SPEAKER_08: Zalef.
- 3:03:05SPEAKER_08: When I first started this mix, it was um the reason I started this mix was actually because I just I really love the game, right?
- 3:03:10SPEAKER_08: So like when when I heard this version of of the prelude in the minor key with the alternate melody, uh when I first started playing the game, um I thought it was amazing.
- 3:03:20SPEAKER_08: Like I was just like just blown away, like how how clever it was that they that they made such a change and it just fit the theme really, really well.
- 3:03:28SPEAKER_08: Like it it fits the the the tone of the game.
- 3:03:31SPEAKER_08: Um I thought thought they did a great job.
- 3:03:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:03:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:03:47SPEAKER_00: No chains, no lies, no shadow past for me to flee.
- 3:03:54SPEAKER_00: I face this truth, and it is time to set free.
- 3:03:59SPEAKER_00: To fight or run is easy, I know.
- 3:04:02SPEAKER_00: Easier than facing the truth of what I must let go.
- 3:04:05SPEAKER_00: Here I stand, a burden mind to bear.
- 3:04:08SPEAKER_00: I must declare.
- 3:04:10SPEAKER_00: I've wandered long through the mist of blood and flame with a sword in my hand, forced to fight for my name.
- 3:04:16SPEAKER_08: Um, so like I I really wanted to to do like a mix on this, and I was like, okay, well, I wanted to do something where it was um I I I wanted some kind of some kind of wrapping with it.
- 3:04:28SPEAKER_08: Like I I I thought you know it could either be trap, it could be like um with some of the older, like you know, like the 90s rap where where it's like a little faster.
- 3:04:37SPEAKER_08: Um and so initially I started with that where it's like kind of like cake.
- 3:04:41SPEAKER_08: Um and when I pulled on, like so I was asking several rappers if they'd be interested.
- 3:04:47SPEAKER_08: Um and I was really surprised that Mega Ran actually responded and he was he was interested.
- 3:04:54SPEAKER_08: Um you know, so like I thought he'd be the the perfect fit.
- 3:04:58SPEAKER_08: I wasn't sure of like what a schedule looked like or if he'd be even interested.
- 3:05:02SPEAKER_08: Um and I was just really excited that that he said yes.
- 3:05:06SPEAKER_08: So I showed him the original idea, and I said, Well, I you know, I'm also thinking about doing something like like a Psytrance trap as well, but I'm not sure, you know, like here's like a general idea of of where that would go, and I gave him like a really short clip on that, and he was like, actually, that second one sounds really good, and so that's what we went with.
- 3:05:23SPEAKER_08: So we um so I actually have a a mix of this, and it's it's like so I basically put that away and re-redid the whole thing, right?
- 3:05:33SPEAKER_08: Um, and in doing so, like we wanted us to have like some some orchestral uh sounds in this.
- 3:05:39SPEAKER_08: Um, and I was able to pull in uh point blanket.
- 3:05:43SPEAKER_08: Um uh his name is Alex, and uh he he he did a great job with the violins.
- 3:05:48SPEAKER_08: Um, and uh I was able to uh to convince my daughter to to help me out with with with this mix as well.
- 3:05:54SPEAKER_08: So I was I was I was really excited that that that she was able to um uh to sing for this.
- 3:06:00SPEAKER_08: Um but yeah, so it was it was it was a lot of fun.
- 3:06:03SPEAKER_08: Um I'd say um the rec the recordings, like normally I have to do a lot of like sound editing and like you know, I I don't have melodin, but I have something very, very similar.
- 3:06:14SPEAKER_08: Um I normally have to do stuff with that, um, but with the artist that recorded, I had very little work I needed to do.
- 3:06:22SPEAKER_08: Um so I spent a lot more of the time in the overall like the arrangement of the song, um, and then of course then like the the the mix and master at the end, um kind of playing around with that.
- 3:06:34SPEAKER_08: Um but yeah, I mean like the it was I I was just really excited how well everything just kind of put um kind of came together.
- 3:06:40SPEAKER_08: Uh one one of the things I really tried to do was also put in um like like a chiptune kind of throwback to the original prelude.
- 3:06:49SPEAKER_08: Um, you know, and I was trying to figure out how to do that if I wanted to do it throughout the whole song or if I wanted to make it just clever in the middle.
- 3:06:55SPEAKER_08: Um and so I put it there, and I think the last thing, um, I initially had a version of the song as well, like of this of the Psytrance trap song, and it was much harder and much heavier.
- 3:07:08SPEAKER_08: Um, and if you listen to a lot of my music, usually I I like things that are like you know pretty heavy.
- 3:07:15SPEAKER_08: Um or or at least very fast.
- 3:07:17SPEAKER_08: And what I did instead is in like the very end, instead of having it build up and be really heavy, I basically pulled everything out.
- 3:07:23SPEAKER_08: So it's just the violin, and it sounds so good.
- 3:07:27SPEAKER_08: I was just like, yeah, this is exactly what it needs to do.
- 3:07:29SPEAKER_08: So the the original plan was to have a build up, and I I felt like that was the ending, was was was basically pulling everything out.
- 3:07:38SPEAKER_08: Um anyways, yep, I I think that's that that's a good overview.
- 3:07:41SPEAKER_08: I I really enjoyed making this this this mix, it was it was a lot of fun.
- 3:07:45SPEAKER_03: And it's a great mix.
- 3:07:46SPEAKER_03: Uh I absolutely adored it.
- 3:07:48SPEAKER_03: And it's like uh again, I don't I my musical vocabulary is crap, but like there's just something special about the Final Fantasy prelude.
- 3:07:57SPEAKER_03: It's timeless, and whenever someone works it into a mix in any way, shape, or form, I it I'm just grinning the whole time.
- 3:08:08SPEAKER_03: Um The other thing I wanted to say is um of all of the people involved in this album, I think Mega Ran is the only one I've met in person.
- 3:08:19SPEAKER_03: Um, but that was in the concept uh like in the context of buying a t-shirt at a concert.
- 3:08:24SPEAKER_03: So um I he seemed like a cool dude, and it it sounds like working with him was a breeze.
- 3:08:33SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it was um I actually asked him while he was in the middle of touring, so he stopped by a recording studio um to to send out some things and then went back to touring again.
- 3:08:42SPEAKER_08: Like it was it's crazy like that.
- 3:08:43SPEAKER_08: He actually did that for us.
- 3:08:44SPEAKER_08: So man, what a challenge.
- 3:08:45SPEAKER_08: Really appreciative.
- 3:08:46SPEAKER_03: I know, I'm so appreciative.
- 3:08:48SPEAKER_03: I'm blanking on this.
- 3:08:49SPEAKER_03: He's been on some remixes before, I'm sure.
- 3:08:52SPEAKER_11: Uh he was on uh one from the last time he was on Overclock Remix was from uh the uh Super Dodgeball album Around the World.
- 3:09:02SPEAKER_11: And um, yep, yep.
- 3:09:04SPEAKER_11: So it's been some years, and I actually um make a joke about that on in the web notes.
- 3:09:10SPEAKER_11: But it's it's um um but it was just just to have him back.
- 3:09:14SPEAKER_11: And I mean in that one he's all sort of um you know this this is a this is a joke track, this is this is funny.
- 3:09:20SPEAKER_11: Here he's shows a sort of a more serious introspective side, and um just paired with um Audiomin's singing and especially Point Lincoln's violin, there's there's a moment I think it's at the start of the second verse where the handover is just so brilliant, and it's just like oh it's um it gets me every time.
- 3:09:44SPEAKER_13: I do love that uh Zalith and I picked Masayoshi Sokin tracks that have Uimatsu either in them or the DNA of Ui Matsu in them.
- 3:09:56SPEAKER_03: That's a that's a really great call out.
- 3:09:58SPEAKER_13: It that's it it's very time shift.
- 3:10:01SPEAKER_13: Like uh to take the prelude and then new spinning.
- 3:10:05SPEAKER_03: The OG Final Fantasy composer and I mean the most recent Final Fantasy composer.
- 3:10:12SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 3:10:13SPEAKER_03: Um which I I gotta get something on my chest.
- 3:10:16SPEAKER_03: I do love Masayoshi Sokin.
- 3:10:19SPEAKER_03: Uh I think his soundtracks are fantastic.
- 3:10:22SPEAKER_03: I was a bit sad that they didn't get Yoko Shimamura to do 16 also, because 15 was I I just adore Yokoshimamura.
- 3:10:32SPEAKER_13: I think Shimamura and Sokin on the same OST would be goaded.
- 3:10:38SPEAKER_03: That would be amazing.
- 3:10:40SPEAKER_13: I guess we'll see.
- 3:10:42SPEAKER_13: We'll see for uh Final Fantasy 17 if maybe that happens.
- 3:10:46SPEAKER_03: Uh the the the other one I'm pulling for for 17 is um I'm blanking on his name.
- 3:10:51SPEAKER_03: The lead composer for Nier.
- 3:10:54SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, Yokotaro.
- 3:10:56SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, that would be amazing.
- 3:11:00SPEAKER_03: Um Square has a lot of musical talent.
- 3:11:03SPEAKER_03: Um they they got stuff.
- 3:11:05SPEAKER_03: They got the people, they got the tech.
- 3:11:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, I guess it's my turn, huh?
- 3:11:10SPEAKER_03: Um, so I alluded to this earlier, but uh, you know, given the whole album, uh, and its concept and what it's about, and you know, it's it's the 25th anniversary of Overclocked Remix, and you know, now uh well, I say that, now it's the 26th birthday.
- 3:11:30SPEAKER_03: OC Remix can rent a car now.
- 3:11:32SPEAKER_03: Um and uh so my criterion for selecting a track was what hit me in the nostalgia the hardest.
- 3:11:41SPEAKER_03: And I've never played Outer Wilds, uh, and I'm not familiar with the soundtrack at all, but uh Ridley Snipes' uh known unknowns jumped out at me immediately uh as just an absolutely nostalgic track.
- 3:12:55SPEAKER_03: Um and I was trying to figure out what does this remind me of, and it reminds me of a specific OC remix from 2006 by Dragon Avenger and E Fields called Summoner's Love from Final Fantasy X.
- 3:13:15SPEAKER_03: Uh, which classic.
- 3:13:17SPEAKER_03: Uh an absolute classic, and also like that track and the vocals and also that time in my life, because like 2006 is around when like I was breaking up with my first real girlfriend, uh, and like so none unknown uh known unknowns just hit me in the nostalgia so hard.
- 3:13:41SPEAKER_03: Um but again, I don't have any musical vocabulary, so while I have all these talented people here, please also talk about none uh known unknowns for me.
- 3:13:51SPEAKER_11: It made me go play the game.
- 3:13:53SPEAKER_11: And I'm so glad I did.
- 3:13:54SPEAKER_03: Uh okay, well, I don't know if we'll keep this part in the podcast itself, but tell me a little about the game, because I I know basically nothing.
- 3:14:02SPEAKER_11: Uh to Okay, it's it's one of those games that's um I think it's best described as going to uh going on a hike to the top of Mount Fuji to see the sunrise.
- 3:14:15SPEAKER_11: You would only ever do it once, but it's so worth uh the effort of going to do it.
- 3:14:20SPEAKER_11: That's what Outer Wilds is like.
- 3:14:22SPEAKER_11: It's um incredible piece of art.
- 3:14:26SPEAKER_11: It's uh I go as far as to say it is gaming literature.
- 3:14:29SPEAKER_13: Um and just you can't really describe uh the gameplay of the game without giving entirely the game away.
- 3:14:39SPEAKER_13: Oh yeah.
- 3:14:40SPEAKER_03: Count me in, I'm sold now.
- 3:14:42SPEAKER_04: That's a what it'd be safe to say it's like you only got one life, even though you repeat things uh like in in in your own real life.
- 3:14:50SPEAKER_04: Like that's it's kind of like an uh allegory for that.
- 3:14:54SPEAKER_11: I mean, I think Outer Wilds is also that sort of game that it means something to different people.
- 3:15:00SPEAKER_11: Um and I think what Ridley did with it um was basically it was just like here, I I've got a little bit of a of a snippet of of the tune from Outer Wilds, and I was like, oh, that's really good.
- 3:15:12SPEAKER_11: Uh I don't really know this game, I don't know this theme.
- 3:15:15SPEAKER_11: And so I looked into it, looked into the original theme, and oh my gosh, the the original is just full of full of feels and uh quickly messages.
- 3:15:27SPEAKER_04: Even did a uh a Minecraft remix album in that style recently.
- 3:15:31SPEAKER_04: Oh, I've got to listen to that then.
- 3:15:33SPEAKER_04: That's great, yeah.
- 3:15:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah, the the Outer Wilds theme quickly made its way into my list of favorite um video game tunes, um, just because of how heartfelt and how um I mean, in a way, it it's nostalgic as well.
- 3:15:48SPEAKER_11: It's got a very uh nostalgia-inducing chord progression.
- 3:15:51SPEAKER_11: It's it's just um um ascending through 4565.
- 3:15:56SPEAKER_11: Um but it's um but just what gets down on top of that.
- 3:16:00SPEAKER_11: And um Ridley just basically took the the essence of that, gave it a bit of uh an uplifting EDM.
- 3:16:11SPEAKER_11: Um I don't want to say synth, but it's sort of a a pop um pop EDM feel to it.
- 3:16:17SPEAKER_11: Um, but it's got these whisp moments of whistling in it, and uh they send shivers down my spine every time when I hear it.
- 3:16:25SPEAKER_11: So um yeah, it's it it's a fantastic one.
- 3:16:29SPEAKER_11: It was the one that I was going to do until Zach uh took no nine.
- 3:16:34SPEAKER_04: Me too.
- 3:16:35SPEAKER_04: I was yeah, just because uh the outerwild soundtrack is it's pretty uh one of the perks of being the podcast host is Dibbs.
- 3:16:43SPEAKER_03: You know, that's valid.
- 3:16:45SPEAKER_13: Um I gotta say, any any track with uh with electronic or synth percussion that uses snaps instead of claps, I'm immediately on board.
- 3:16:55SPEAKER_13: I love claps.
- 3:16:57SPEAKER_13: There's something just so very tasty about snap samples though.
- 3:17:02SPEAKER_13: Um yeah, I'm apparently that's my weakness.
- 3:17:05SPEAKER_13: Put snaps in your track.
- 3:17:07SPEAKER_03: Alright, you heard it here first if you want to get at least one yes out of the judges panel.
- 3:17:13SPEAKER_08: Okay, but I worked with um Ridley Snipes on on a few different songs, and it was really cool to kind of see his workflow, and I'm sure he did the same thing here.
- 3:17:21SPEAKER_08: Um so like he he really uses reference tracks like pretty religiously.
- 3:17:27SPEAKER_08: Uh, and he'll and he does a lot of wave editing directly um in in his IDE to basically make it work.
- 3:17:34SPEAKER_08: So every every one of his tracks, it's it it ends up being some kind of wave that he's basically sculpting.
- 3:17:39SPEAKER_08: Um and it's I've seen this process a few different places, uh, and it's amazing um to to to kind of see it come through and it it sounds amazing.
- 3:17:49SPEAKER_04: I like just to add as a I mean Oh go ahead.
- 3:17:52SPEAKER_04: Go ahead before we move on to uh the uh the devil who who came by as we talked about.
- 3:17:59SPEAKER_04: Um I not in any like music theory or anything like that, but the f this song is just fun and kind of uplifting and it kind of just makes you feel good.
- 3:18:11SPEAKER_04: Which I which one of the reasons I wanted to pick this remix too.
- 3:18:16SPEAKER_04: You know, it can get you out of a bad mood if you really want if you listen to it.
- 3:18:20SPEAKER_04: It's one of those type of tracks.
- 3:18:21SPEAKER_11: I put it after um the Stellaris one for that purpose because it's uplifting.
- 3:18:27SPEAKER_11: Whereas the Stellaris uh one that Movius did um is basically the lights are going out.
- 3:18:33SPEAKER_11: So um I needed something just to come back from that.
- 3:18:37SPEAKER_11: So it's the perfect um the perfect um reply.
- 3:18:42SPEAKER_11: Tell it cleaner, right?
- 3:18:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:18:44SPEAKER_03: I guess in a sense, being an album director is sort of like being able to ask a bunch of cool people to make music and then like turning it into the best mixtape you can make out of that.
- 3:18:56SPEAKER_04: One of the best things you can do when you do an album.
- 3:18:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that that's that's always a good feeling.
- 3:19:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, one of one of the fun things that I had about this, um, I mean, I've I've still got the um uh the Google Document spreadsheet somewhere where I basically just put air all the tracks out, okay, here are their lengths.
- 3:19:13SPEAKER_11: How am I going to organize this?
- 3:19:15SPEAKER_11: And I was just um just building it is basically like building a mixtape.
- 3:19:20SPEAKER_11: It's like, okay, I want to put this track here, what do I put around this track?
- 3:19:24SPEAKER_11: Or okay, this is the mood of this.
- 3:19:26SPEAKER_11: I want a crest here, I want I want a fall here, I want a um uh a shift in mood.
- 3:19:33SPEAKER_11: Um like I said, the whole of Indigo was built around 100% Roma's track.
- 3:19:38SPEAKER_11: Um it just builds up to that before uh Morgan um is the palacleanser.
- 3:19:44SPEAKER_11: And um that was one of one of the most fun things I did, and then it was basically at the end of it, it was saying, like, okay folks, here's the order, tell me what you think.
- 3:19:53SPEAKER_11: And um I don't think I got any complaints.
- 3:19:56SPEAKER_03: Now, given the concept of the album, I feel like I need to say um mostly for JSA Blixer, um, a tape is like a sort of little cartridge that has music on it, and a mixtape is when you put whatever music you want on a tape in whatever order you want.
- 3:20:16SPEAKER_04: Well, we could get a little bit more-it's a magnetic strip in a plastic casing.
- 3:20:21SPEAKER_03: That uh so I think this is a good time to segue in into a wild Larry appeared.
- 3:20:33SPEAKER_03: Okay, your face lit up, but I didn't hear anything.
- 3:20:36SPEAKER_13: Just gave some grunts.
- 3:20:43SPEAKER_03: Uh Lion Tamer, would you like to introduce yourself to the nice people?
- 3:20:49SPEAKER_14: Oh hey.
- 3:20:50SPEAKER_14: Good evening.
- 3:20:52SPEAKER_02: This is Larry OG, aka Lion Tamer, one of the evil judges at Overclock Remix.
- 3:21:00SPEAKER_02: I've been a judge for a long time.
- 3:21:02SPEAKER_02: Somewhere around 359 years.
- 3:21:07SPEAKER_03: Sounds accurate to me.
- 3:21:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, something around there.
- 3:21:10SPEAKER_02: I'm also the community manager of OC Remix, which means handling all the social media business, all the social media stuffs and interactions with the with the beeps.
- 3:21:22SPEAKER_02: And uh I like video game music.
- 3:21:25SPEAKER_03: Now, as I recall, you are also the person who encouraged me to start this podcast.
- 3:21:31SPEAKER_02: I I mean, uh you really you're blaming me?
- 3:21:35SPEAKER_03: I am blaming you, yes.
- 3:21:36SPEAKER_03: You know, about a year ago we did like uh birthday uh shindig on Discord, and I hopped on and I mentioned that like hey, I missed the old OCR pod.
- 3:21:50SPEAKER_03: Uh someone should do something do another one.
- 3:21:53SPEAKER_03: And you were like, Where are this starting?
- 3:21:56SPEAKER_02: I said I said, get off my damn back, is what I said.
- 3:21:59SPEAKER_02: I think something like that.
- 3:22:01SPEAKER_02: And then yeah, you took it and ran.
- 3:22:03SPEAKER_02: You were like, oh yeah, well, I'll show you, you stupid summer.
- 3:22:07SPEAKER_02: And I went, oh, oh yeah, I'd like to see you try, partner.
- 3:22:12SPEAKER_11: And uh I did for the album.
- 3:22:14SPEAKER_11: Uh basically I was like, hey, uh, yeah, we let let's make an album for the 25th anniversary, and then two days later it's like, oh, I should direct this, shouldn't I?
- 3:22:23SPEAKER_04: That's how it happens.
- 3:22:25SPEAKER_04: That's that's always how it happens.
- 3:22:27SPEAKER_13: We told you, Larry OG never breaks kayfabe.
- 3:22:30SPEAKER_02: I excuse me.
- 3:22:32SPEAKER_02: I mean, well, I mean, I I feel like I I just showed up and was was was was was attacked verbally attacked, but anyway, that's okay.
- 3:22:42SPEAKER_02: And I was blamed for this show, which is you know, that's uh that that takes the cake right there.
- 3:22:47SPEAKER_02: Like, oh, don't blame me for your your your show, dude.
- 3:22:52SPEAKER_07: I mean it's the term voluntold, yeah.
- 3:22:55SPEAKER_03: See, yeah, I was I was voluntold to do the show by Larry.
- 3:22:59SPEAKER_03: Um I had already taken the step of buying a semi-nice microphone because I had this in the back of my head.
- 3:23:08SPEAKER_14: See?
- 3:23:09SPEAKER_03: So I was like, alright, I've got the microphone already.
- 3:23:12SPEAKER_03: I'll I will do this.
- 3:23:13SPEAKER_13: I believe it was Gandhi from Sid Meyer's Civilization who said, be the change you wish to see in the world shortly before nuking your country.
- 3:23:23SPEAKER_02: Dude, I will sick chuck.
- 3:23:25SPEAKER_02: I once, I once, no lie, my senior year in college, I had uh a roommate, a friend of mine, one of my roommates, he skipped a final to play Civilization 3.
- 3:23:40SPEAKER_02: He still graduated.
- 3:23:42SPEAKER_02: I don't know, I don't know how, but I mean that that that's how good the game is.
- 3:23:47SPEAKER_02: And that's why I never played it uh beyond Civilization 1.
- 3:23:52SPEAKER_02: Because it's one of it's also why I stopped playing Pokemon Go.
- 3:23:55SPEAKER_02: It wasn't it wasn't like, oh, I got tired of these games, uh, they're just kind of lame, whatever, I'm done, I'm tired.
- 3:24:02SPEAKER_02: No, it was like, oh, you know what?
- 3:24:04SPEAKER_02: These games are too good.
- 3:24:05SPEAKER_02: I'm realizing that they're too, too, too, too good.
- 3:24:08SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna I'm going to leave it there and quit cold turkey.
- 3:24:13SPEAKER_13: Your friend is so based.
- 3:24:14SPEAKER_03: Oh, I was gonna say, I think I've talked about this on the pod before, but like when I was growing up, my mom was really strict about computer use.
- 3:24:22SPEAKER_03: She was like, you've got game consoles for games, the computer is for education only, no games on the computer.
- 3:24:30SPEAKER_03: So consequently, um, Civilization 4 was the first one I played.
- 3:24:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, because that's the one that came out when I was in college.
- 3:24:39SPEAKER_02: Oh, nice, nice, nice, nice.
- 3:24:41SPEAKER_04: What was everybody's first PC game?
- 3:24:44SPEAKER_02: Lemonade Stand on the Apple IIe.
- 3:24:47SPEAKER_03: Digger.
- 3:24:48SPEAKER_03: Uh I definitely played Doom at a friend's house, and I'm trying to remember if I played Wolfenstein before that.
- 3:24:54SPEAKER_13: Played at school or played at home?
- 3:24:58SPEAKER_11: My mind is uh in that case, it's are they gonna be Digger?
- 3:25:02SPEAKER_11: Uh would that be on the ZX Spectrum?
- 3:25:05SPEAKER_11: IBM version.
- 3:25:06SPEAKER_11: Oh.
- 3:25:07SPEAKER_13: Oh sweet.
- 3:25:08SPEAKER_13: Uh if it's at school, it's that weird bug game where you run around trying not to get squished by a dinosaur on the the old Mac G2s.
- 3:25:20SPEAKER_02: Is that what they printed on the box?
- 3:25:23SPEAKER_13: It's I don't remember the name of that.
- 3:25:24SPEAKER_02: That weird game where you don't get squished.
- 3:25:26SPEAKER_13: Basically it's like we had that Mario teaches typing, uh uh Math Blaster and Oregon Trail, and then at home we had the DOS version of Jeopardy.
- 3:25:38SPEAKER_13: And Josh and I were the only ones who could play it because we were the only ones with the patience to type in the uh the terminal to like load it.
- 3:25:48SPEAKER_13: Like my my older brother, Josh and I's older brother and our dad both like gave up out of frustration because they kept inputting the terminal line incorrect.
- 3:25:58SPEAKER_13: Bugdum.
- 3:25:59SPEAKER_13: Bugdum is the name of the game.
- 3:26:01SPEAKER_13: Thank you, Josh.
- 3:26:02SPEAKER_13: Bugdum.
- 3:26:03SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
- 3:26:04SPEAKER_02: I haven't thought about Bugdum in a million years.
- 3:26:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, bugd'em.
- 3:26:08SPEAKER_02: Damn near killed them.
- 3:26:10SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I I don't know if this counts, but my first uh computer game was Mavis Beacon teaches typing.
- 3:26:19SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 3:26:20SPEAKER_03: Wait, is Mavis Beacon a real person or is she like Betty Crocker?
- 3:26:24SPEAKER_07: She's like Betty Crocker.
- 3:26:25SPEAKER_07: Um, I believe that the face of uh Mavis Beacon, or at least the first one, was a model in like the late 80s, early 90s.
- 3:26:37SPEAKER_02: Did it teach you typing?
- 3:26:39SPEAKER_02: Was it successful?
- 3:26:40SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah, it was.
- 3:26:42SPEAKER_07: So uh my dad was going for a computer science degree.
- 3:26:47SPEAKER_07: Uh he had the math knowledge, but he was a chicken pecker typer.
- 3:26:52SPEAKER_07: He was very slow, and you know, I think one of the professors just told him, hey, I don't think this is right for you.
- 3:27:00SPEAKER_07: So after that day, he bought a copy of Mabispeac and Teaches Typing, and he forced my brothers and I to do it because we had to get our touch typing up.
- 3:27:12SPEAKER_04: Oh man.
- 3:27:13SPEAKER_04: Still chicken type.
- 3:27:16SPEAKER_04: I'm a chicken plucker.
- 3:27:18SPEAKER_04: I guess I'll I'll go.
- 3:27:20SPEAKER_04: I if we're talking in school, it's either Oregon Trail or it was some game that taught me how to we're supposed to teach you how to use levers and pulleys.
- 3:27:28SPEAKER_04: I don't know if anybody else has played that.
- 3:27:31SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, that's what yeah.
- 3:27:34SPEAKER_04: Maybe.
- 3:27:35SPEAKER_04: Uh I don't even remember what it was called.
- 3:27:37SPEAKER_04: It was just like a really basic game that had like a really deep kind of gameplay feel.
- 3:27:42SPEAKER_04: Um then at home, I think.
- 3:27:47SPEAKER_04: At home, I so does anybody rem did anybody read Wizard uh magazine when they were kids?
- 3:27:53SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 3:27:54SPEAKER_02: That was my favorite present when I was uh when I was 11, Santa gave me a copy of Wizard number 41 with Cyclops on the cover back in 1993.
- 3:28:03SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Santa.
- 3:28:04SPEAKER_04: Well, they had a contest where they gave away Duke Nukem 3D.
- 3:28:08SPEAKER_04: And I'm super underage at that point for that day.
- 3:28:13SPEAKER_04: But I entered the contest anyway, and I won.
- 3:28:15SPEAKER_04: I won like a uh Duke Nukem action figure, I won a t-shirt, and I won the PC game.
- 3:28:22SPEAKER_04: Oh what did they say?
- 3:28:24SPEAKER_04: And I put that thing on and I played it, and I was like, I don't, I this is great.
- 3:28:28SPEAKER_04: You know, I didn't think anything of it, but really irresponsible to them, but I am so glad.
- 3:28:32SPEAKER_13: Uh amazing.
- 3:28:35SPEAKER_13: You heard it here, folks.
- 3:28:37SPEAKER_13: DLP has balls of steel.
- 3:28:39SPEAKER_04: I've got balls of steel.
- 3:28:41SPEAKER_12: Balls, balls, balls, balls of steel.
- 3:28:44SPEAKER_12: Where is it?
- 3:28:48SPEAKER_12: Oh, that's a lot of words.
- 3:28:50SPEAKER_12: Too bad I'm not reading them.
- 3:28:52SPEAKER_12: Ruby.
- 3:28:55SPEAKER_11: Played the original um 2D platformer Juke Nukin.
- 3:29:02SPEAKER_11: Not at all.
- 3:29:03SPEAKER_11: Oh, I had it as a demo on the second PC we had.
- 3:29:08SPEAKER_03: Uh, Larry.
- 3:29:09SPEAKER_03: Coming in coming into this, you had homework.
- 3:29:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, and that homework was pick a track from Time Shift you want to talk about, so.
- 3:29:16SPEAKER_00: Oh.
- 3:29:17SPEAKER_02: What do you mean huh?
- 3:29:18SPEAKER_02: I have to talk about video game music?
- 3:29:22SPEAKER_02: Like, dude, what do you take me for?
- 3:29:24SPEAKER_02: I just don't get it.
- 3:29:26SPEAKER_02: Do it for McRib?
- 3:29:27SPEAKER_02: Oh, well?
- 3:29:28SPEAKER_02: Oh, I feel like this turned into a Claude Dankbar commercial.
- 3:29:31SPEAKER_02: Well, we're not for Claude Dankbar.
- 3:29:34SPEAKER_07: Well, oh two Mick Ribs.
- 3:29:36SPEAKER_07: Oh.
- 3:29:37SPEAKER_02: Uh oh well, you know, I have had I have had three McRibs this season, so uh we're doing pretty good.
- 3:29:44SPEAKER_02: I'm pretty happy.
- 3:29:45SPEAKER_03: Mick rib season.
- 3:29:46SPEAKER_13: Look, Larry, we know what you are.
- 3:29:48SPEAKER_13: We're just describing, you know, price.
- 3:29:50SPEAKER_13: We're negotiating price.
- 3:29:52SPEAKER_02: Mm-hmm.
- 3:29:52SPEAKER_02: I understand.
- 3:29:54SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 3:29:55SPEAKER_02: That's such a mean thing to say, you little comedian.
- 3:29:57SPEAKER_02: You so I'm supposed to talk about a track from Time Ship.
- 3:30:01SPEAKER_02: Alright.
- 3:30:02SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm gonna talk about something that nobody else has talked about because you guys are all terrible people and then are refusing to recognize the greatness of uh of this track, which was Eurito, which I'm sure Zach has probably called Jorido, like Tony More.
- 3:30:18SPEAKER_02: I definitely have or like Dorito, like a Dorito eating chip.
- 3:30:23SPEAKER_02: So we had Eurito featuring Siren Star, some goofist, and then prophetic music.
- 3:30:31SPEAKER_02: And so uh there were uh oh pixel step.
- 3:30:35SPEAKER_09: Yes, pixel's the queen of the step.
- 3:30:43SPEAKER_09: She's here to the staff and so fright.
- 3:31:06SPEAKER_10: She is the queen of the night.
- 3:31:10SPEAKER_02: Yes, yes, yes.
- 3:31:11SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, butted.
- 3:31:14SPEAKER_02: So I just listen, I am a child of the 80s, so I wasn't around during the the disco era, but of course I have a healthy appreciation for uh the groove, as it were.
- 3:31:26SPEAKER_02: So Queen of the Groove is a Final Fantasy VII rebirth arrangement marshaled by Eurito.
- 3:31:33SPEAKER_02: And listen, I've said this in write-ups about some of the stuff that she has been involved with, but Siren Star is an amazing vocalist.
- 3:31:41SPEAKER_02: I'm sure everybody here on our little recording can agree that she's awesome.
- 3:31:47SPEAKER_02: So I love hearing her tap into her inner disco diva, and then of course, Pixel Seth and Prophetic Music bring the groove, as it were.
- 3:31:58SPEAKER_02: Uh Seth, do you mind commenting on, you know, sort of uh how you channel the groove, like how how how you become one with the groove?
- 3:32:07SPEAKER_13: But yeah, uh where'd you get your groove bias?
- 3:32:10SPEAKER_13: First, you uh like all things, you must create the universe.
- 3:32:13SPEAKER_13: No, uh, Eurita reached out and was like, hey, I'm I need some guitars for this disco track.
- 3:32:19SPEAKER_13: Uh and I'm not typically a disco guitar player, but I'll do anything for a McRib.
- 3:32:24SPEAKER_13: I mean, I'll do anything once.
- 3:32:26SPEAKER_13: And uh and I just finished building a clean guitar patch for it.
- 3:32:31SPEAKER_13: I was like, sure, yeah, let me let me give it a shot.
- 3:32:33SPEAKER_13: He's like, cool.
- 3:32:34SPEAKER_13: Uh I don't need any lead guitar stuff, it's just rhythm work.
- 3:32:37SPEAKER_13: And I was like, cool, and I cut him a lead guitar track that he did not put in the final mix anyway.
- 3:32:44SPEAKER_13: And that's fine.
- 3:32:45SPEAKER_13: Uh I I actually appreciate that he didn't because Siren Star's vocal is killer.
- 3:32:50SPEAKER_13: Prof did some amazing sax work on it, and I'm super saxy.
- 3:32:55SPEAKER_13: It's very, it's very tasty.
- 3:32:57SPEAKER_13: I I really like listening to that track in the work in progress and like hearing it come about, like I I think Eurito came fairly late to the album coming together.
- 3:33:09SPEAKER_13: Like uh he was in what the last two passes in the workshop?
- 3:33:14SPEAKER_11: Things happened, and then uh he um came back later and it's like, oh yeah, and he by the way, here's this uh disco thing.
- 3:33:23SPEAKER_11: Like, okay.
- 3:33:25SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 3:33:25SPEAKER_11: So, but yeah, yeah, I got to see this um grow as well, and it was fantastic uh watching it blossom.
- 3:33:32SPEAKER_13: Uh to answer your question, Larry, to get the groove, you just play syncopated.
- 3:33:37SPEAKER_13: Uh that I don't know a way to say that without using musician terms.
- 3:33:41SPEAKER_13: So that's that's the beginning and the end of that.
- 3:33:43SPEAKER_04: Just play a hard beat.
- 3:33:46SPEAKER_03: I have uh two things to say about this track, and um one of them is a statement, and the other is a question.
- 3:33:57SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I'm going to start with a question because I've lost my train of thought and I've forgotten the statement.
- 3:34:02SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's late.
- 3:34:04SPEAKER_03: Uh and the question is: I am a bad person, and I haven't played uh Final Fantasy VII Rebirth yet, and I need to know in what context is the Source Tune played.
- 3:34:16SPEAKER_03: You're gonna love this.
- 3:34:17SPEAKER_13: Uh so Queen's Blood is a card game.
- 3:34:20SPEAKER_13: It's a m it's the card mini game from Rebirth.
- 3:34:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, I okay.
- 3:34:26SPEAKER_03: I've heard that it has a very good card mini-game, like easily the best since Triple Triad.
- 3:34:32SPEAKER_13: There are people who uh definitely don't like it and they don't like the way that the minigame has certain if you want everything in the game, you gotta play the minigame.
- 3:34:43SPEAKER_13: Like they don't like the aspect of it.
- 3:34:45SPEAKER_13: Tactically, it's very fun.
- 3:34:47SPEAKER_13: The music, uh the source tune doesn't sound anything like the remix, which we love.
- 3:34:52SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we love when the remix elevates the source.
- 3:34:57SPEAKER_02: Well, what would you what would you call the original source?
- 3:34:59SPEAKER_02: Because it's almost kind of like a uh almost feels like an I'm not an anime connoisseur, but something that you would hear from like cowboy bebop a little bit, or kind of uh, you know, it's got it's got those jazzy vibes and stuff like that, but yeah, uh it does have that kind of almost feels like you're in a casino, like you're in some sort of gambling establishment.
- 3:35:18SPEAKER_13: It is something it is definitely up-tempo Japanese jazz.
- 3:35:21SPEAKER_13: Totally.
- 3:35:22SPEAKER_13: It's it's very seatbelts, you know, it's very right, right, right.
- 3:35:28SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, so yeah, that's what that's what yeah, that's definitely what I was thinking of there.
- 3:35:31SPEAKER_02: But Yoko Kano stuff, yeah.
- 3:35:34SPEAKER_13: The source, uh so Siren uh Siren Star doing the vocal line in the source is done by the saxophone, and you hear that saxophone sting a lot between you know the sound effects of you putting cards down and the monsters making noise.
- 3:35:51SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm gonna have to listen to the source too now.
- 3:35:54SPEAKER_03: And I I really all I always appreciate when there's like a big genre disparity between source and remix.
- 3:36:01SPEAKER_03: Uh it's always a delight.
- 3:36:03SPEAKER_02: And I think the and I think the cool thing about it in both cases, right?
- 3:36:06SPEAKER_02: So even though it's just a complete genre change, right, the original is upbeat and kind of has a a positive vibe to it.
- 3:36:15SPEAKER_02: And I think this I think this disco rendition of it sort of ratchets up that that just uh that positivity, like the level of positivity in it with the vocals and everything like that.
- 3:36:26SPEAKER_02: I think it was pretty good.
- 3:36:27SPEAKER_02: It's um it's not meant to make you think too hard, right?
- 3:36:31SPEAKER_02: It's meant to make you fit into the groove.
- 3:36:34SPEAKER_13: So ironically, it might fit within the rebirth OST.
- 3:36:40SPEAKER_13: Like in the same vein that.
- 3:36:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a thousand percent.
- 3:36:43SPEAKER_13: Like the the team that did the remake and the rebirth, like music stuff, how they went and like their treatment of the Uimatsu originals is is phenomenal.
- 3:36:54SPEAKER_13: How like the level of detail to which they went to be uh like drawing from the source but doing rearrangements and re-inspirations, I think Yorito drew from that same, you know, kind of uh first principles to make this remix.
- 3:37:09SPEAKER_04: Those nerds redoing old video game music.
- 3:37:11SPEAKER_04: What the hell?
- 3:37:12SPEAKER_03: Oh, I remember my statement.
- 3:37:15SPEAKER_03: My statement is I think over the course of the podcast I have pronounced it JoRito and Horito and Yorito.
- 3:37:23SPEAKER_03: I think I've covered all of my bases.
- 3:37:25SPEAKER_13: The three triplets.
- 3:37:26SPEAKER_02: I told you when you started, I was like, we've got so many names to go over.
- 3:37:30SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, not McVaf, it's McVaf.
- 3:37:34SPEAKER_02: Oh come on, and Schnobu Schnobubula, which you know, you I think you say you say that correctly, but I'm just saying there's so there's lots of complicated, you know, funky names that are in the community.
- 3:37:45SPEAKER_02: So Dark Sword is Dark Sword is Sharik, and you know, people go Shark and Sharique, and you know, all that kind of stuff.
- 3:37:53SPEAKER_02: So so many things to learn.
- 3:37:55SPEAKER_03: The the ones I've been struggling with lately is the last uh two or three months or so, we have had so many French names.
- 3:38:03SPEAKER_03: Uh and yeah uh and uh why can't the French spell?
- 3:38:13SPEAKER_03: I guess is the question I have for everyone.
- 3:38:17SPEAKER_03: That's a shot across the bow right there.
- 3:38:20SPEAKER_02: That was not me saying that.
- 3:38:22SPEAKER_02: Views of Zach Tori represent overclock remix.
- 3:38:27SPEAKER_13: Hilariously, we still don't have an Expedition 33 remix posted.
- 3:38:32SPEAKER_14: Hit a blue lighter.
- 3:38:34SPEAKER_14: I don't know, maybe get the time for the French brigade.
- 3:38:38SPEAKER_14: Come on.
- 3:38:38SPEAKER_02: Uh we maybe we maybe we have some French Canadians as well.
- 3:38:43SPEAKER_13: Yeah, uh audio uh prism.
- 3:38:47SPEAKER_13: Aero Prism, where you at?
- 3:38:48SPEAKER_13: Get in here.
- 3:38:49SPEAKER_13: See what we play Monsieur Oh, we have some more.
- 3:38:52SPEAKER_13: Y'all make it happen.
- 3:38:53SPEAKER_13: Into the lane, no further.
- 3:38:55SPEAKER_07: We can't Zach, aren't you Hungarian?
- 3:38:58SPEAKER_07: Aren't there like a billion like letters in like one word?
- 3:39:03SPEAKER_07: I'm still thinking of like the longest word in Hungarian.
- 3:39:07SPEAKER_07: That's just like for the repeated desecration of you or something like that.
- 3:39:14SPEAKER_03: So so so uh my experience with a Hungarian language is uh listening to my mom speak it to my grandparents and then refusing to teach me any.
- 3:39:24SPEAKER_03: So like I'm very familiar with the sound of Hungarian, but uh in terms of words, I know like food names of dishes.
- 3:39:34SPEAKER_03: Like foods.
- 3:39:35SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 3:39:36SPEAKER_03: Ghoulash.
- 3:39:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 3:39:38SPEAKER_07: It's a hard language.
- 3:39:39SPEAKER_07: All I know is how to say hello.
- 3:39:41SPEAKER_07: See ya.
- 3:39:42SPEAKER_07: See ya, stok.
- 3:39:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, I do know that I mean this is very podcast inappropriate, but like uh the Hungarians are like poets of profanity.
- 3:39:52SPEAKER_03: Uh there are some absolutely wild swear words in Hungarian.
- 3:40:00SPEAKER_02: Nice.
- 3:40:01SPEAKER_02: Time to earn the explicit tag for the podcast.
- 3:40:07SPEAKER_04: Nothing but dolphin noises from here on out.
- 3:40:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
- 3:40:13SPEAKER_02: Perfect.
- 3:40:14SPEAKER_08: I think that I think that's true for a lot of us there, right?
- 3:40:16SPEAKER_08: Like like for their grandparents, like for mine that were either Slovakian or German.
- 3:40:20SPEAKER_08: I didn't really hear them speak it unless they're angry at me.
- 3:40:22SPEAKER_08: So it's usually you know words that are appropriate, not for this podcast.
- 3:40:30SPEAKER_02: Sorry, go ahead.
- 3:40:30SPEAKER_02: I was just gonna say I'm half Russian, and so I know some Russian cuss words.
- 3:40:34SPEAKER_02: Ah, I won't say them here.
- 3:40:36SPEAKER_02: We're not gonna we're not I'm it you may get the explicit tag for this episode, but it won't be my fault.
- 3:40:43SPEAKER_04: I can we can just start going off.
- 3:40:44SPEAKER_04: I got Spanish.
- 3:40:47unknown: Get it.
- 3:40:48SPEAKER_11: I once got told an Indonesian curse that I've now forgotten, which basically equates to if you eat too many onions, may you have an explosion in your pants.
- 3:40:57SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's a good one.
- 3:40:58SPEAKER_02: Do onions do that?
- 3:41:00SPEAKER_02: It's a good remix title, too.
- 3:41:02SPEAKER_02: You ever hear some things that make good remix titles?
- 3:41:04SPEAKER_02: If you eat too many onions, you have an explosion in your pants.
- 3:41:07SPEAKER_02: It's gotta be like a parapha chop chop master onions rap, and you're just rapping about the pants explosion.
- 3:41:14SPEAKER_11: Oh, idea.
- 3:41:15SPEAKER_11: Okay, running that one down.
- 3:41:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're a lyricist.
- 3:41:18SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 3:41:18SPEAKER_02: Boom.
- 3:41:19SPEAKER_02: There you go.
- 3:41:20SPEAKER_02: We're making magic here.
- 3:41:22SPEAKER_03: Pop quiz, someone rattle off the full title of Alarm Fish Man again.
- 3:41:27SPEAKER_03: Oh, dude.
- 3:41:30SPEAKER_07: Fish fan overclocked alarm mix time shift all caps 100%.
- 3:41:39SPEAKER_12: The all-inclusive exclusive club for hairy fishmen who shoot forever turbo alarm clocks.
- 3:41:50SPEAKER_03: I can shot web.
- 3:41:51SPEAKER_03: Uh so it's way past my bedtime.
- 3:41:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I suspect that might be the case for a lot of people, but I want to do the courteous podcast host thing and ask everyone uh, do you have anything you want to shout out or plug?
- 3:42:10SPEAKER_13: Uh uh can I go first?
- 3:42:12SPEAKER_03: Sure.
- 3:42:13SPEAKER_13: Okay, uh it probably will already have been done by the time this episode airs, I suspect.
- 3:42:18SPEAKER_13: Um December 18th, we're doing the second no-show uh on the judges panel where we will take and uh we will listen to several tracks live and judge them in front of an audience so that you can see how in the past tense you have to refer.
- 3:42:33SPEAKER_02: We see we that's what we did.
- 3:42:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:42:35SPEAKER_02: And we and we were amazing at it.
- 3:42:38SPEAKER_13: Yeah, we definitely ripped a bunch of tracks, a new one, uh fairly, because we're them evil judges, and we tried not to praise them too hard, even the ones that kind of were a layup.
- 3:42:50SPEAKER_13: I having listened to none of them uh here in the past, I don't actually know what they sound like yet.
- 3:42:57SPEAKER_13: I'm just assuming that's what's gonna happen.
- 3:42:59SPEAKER_13: But yeah, if you want to see us uh make and then unmake the sausage as the judges panel, tune in on the 18th, or check out uh there'll probably a VOD for it on YouTube.
- 3:43:09SPEAKER_13: We'll have a link to that probably in the podcast description in the doobly.
- 3:43:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, if if you if you remember to send me a link to that w once it's available, I will put it in the podcast description.
- 3:43:21SPEAKER_13: Right in the doobly-doo.
- 3:43:22SPEAKER_13: Who's next?
- 3:43:23SPEAKER_13: Uh Morgan, we've mentioned previously, and has a very long video on the history of the snare drum, has a new video coming out soonish, as soon as they finish uh editing it, which has been taking quite some time for them.
- 3:43:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, podcast editing I already find challenging.
- 3:43:40SPEAKER_03: I can't imagine how much more effort adding video on top of the audio would be.
- 3:43:51SPEAKER_04: That sounds like a lot.
- 3:43:52SPEAKER_04: Uh dubstep stink.
- 3:43:54SPEAKER_04: Hell yeah.
- 3:43:55SPEAKER_13: I just wanted to- Oh, go ahead, Dialogue.
- 3:43:57SPEAKER_11: I just want to give them a shout-out as well, um, because they've had seven remix uh mix posts this year alone uh at the time of recording, and probably even more by the time this comes out.
- 3:44:09SPEAKER_11: So uh I just wanted to congratulate them on having a phenomenal year um and that I'm so glad that they are now a fully fledged member of the overclock remix community.
- 3:44:20SPEAKER_11: Here, here.
- 3:44:21SPEAKER_02: They're okay, they're decent at music.
- 3:44:25SPEAKER_03: Uh I guess.
- 3:44:27SPEAKER_03: Yeah, go.
- 3:44:29SPEAKER_04: Uh on when is this gonna be released?
- 3:44:31SPEAKER_04: It might already be out, it might be on VARD.
- 3:44:33SPEAKER_03: But um Wait, are you asking when the podcast is gonna be released?
- 3:44:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:44:38SPEAKER_03: Probably between Christmas and New Year's.
- 3:44:41SPEAKER_04: Alright, yeah, so by then this will already be out uh on video on demand.
- 3:44:45SPEAKER_04: Uh it's uh I am uh gonna be playing a couple of parts and a table read of a Christmas Carol, a Muppet Christmas Carol on the 19th on uh twitch.com.
- 3:44:59SPEAKER_04: Dungeons and Degrees.
- 3:45:01SPEAKER_04: Uh if anybody wants to listen to that.
- 3:45:03SPEAKER_03: Tell us what TV.
- 3:45:05SPEAKER_04: I I'm playing uh Mr.
- 3:45:07SPEAKER_04: Applegate and Robert Marley.
- 3:45:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:45:10SPEAKER_04: We'll see how I do.
- 3:45:12SPEAKER_04: And then uh next year I'm gonna be voicing a small part in a podcast called the Oracle Pod.
- 3:45:20SPEAKER_04: So yeah, keep an eye out for that.
- 3:45:22SPEAKER_03: Christ, don't say next year.
- 3:45:24SPEAKER_03: This year has gone too fast.
- 3:45:25SPEAKER_03: It's it can't be it can't be almost next year already.
- 3:45:28SPEAKER_04: Most of my stuff is next year, so I'm just gonna I'll end it there.
- 3:45:32SPEAKER_04: Thank you for uh having me on.
- 3:45:33SPEAKER_04: This has been great.
- 3:45:34SPEAKER_04: You're welcome.
- 3:45:36SPEAKER_04: Uh who hasn't plugged yet?
- 3:45:38SPEAKER_07: Uh I got a couple.
- 3:45:40SPEAKER_03: Go for it.
- 3:45:41SPEAKER_07: Um, so uh I already put the call out.
- 3:45:45SPEAKER_07: Uh this will be coming out in April.
- 3:45:47SPEAKER_07: We have an unsanctioned, unofficial, overclocked uh community album called um Overclock Fishness.
- 3:45:57SPEAKER_07: It's for uh the April Fish, April Fool's Day.
- 3:46:01SPEAKER_07: Um yeah, it's silly, you know.
- 3:46:07SPEAKER_07: If you've got any like meme tracks or some out there concept that you want to do, I don't know, like uh the Donkey Kong rap as like a Gregorian chant, go for it.
- 3:46:23SPEAKER_07: Um also I wanna plug a podcast that I heard about.
- 3:46:27SPEAKER_07: I think it's called Overclock Podcast.
- 3:46:33SPEAKER_03: Listeners.
- 3:46:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I um I'm a patron or I contribute a little, you know, server costs ain't cheap.
- 3:46:43SPEAKER_07: So, you know, support the show, support, you know, artists, real human being artists that I am not, but try to pretend to be.
- 3:46:56SPEAKER_07: And if there's any extra, it goes to overclocked remakes to help with their server costs.
- 3:47:02SPEAKER_03: That is the podcast promise.
- 3:47:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, put that money in Larry's pocket.
- 3:47:08SPEAKER_02: That's where it goes, clearly.
- 3:47:10SPEAKER_04: When you said a real human being a real hero from uh college, it popped in my head.
- 3:47:15SPEAKER_04: I don't know if anybody remembers that song.
- 3:47:17SPEAKER_04: I want to recommend everybody listen to that song too.
- 3:47:19SPEAKER_04: It's pretty good.
- 3:47:21SPEAKER_03: Uh maybe I'll contribute something to April Fool's.
- 3:47:24SPEAKER_03: Uh a year ago I was inspired around this time of year to uh do the podcast.
- 3:47:30SPEAKER_03: Maybe I can uh expand my horizons a little more and do a meme track.
- 3:47:34SPEAKER_14: Goodness gracious.
- 3:47:38SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna blame it on Larry again.
- 3:47:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, I love it.
- 3:47:41SPEAKER_02: See, everything is my fault.
- 3:47:42SPEAKER_02: I see it.
- 3:47:43SPEAKER_02: I open my big mouth and you know, tell people to stick it in their craw and they're like, I'll show you.
- 3:47:49SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna do a good job.
- 3:47:51SPEAKER_02: So oh wait, you know what now that I'm talking.
- 3:47:54SPEAKER_02: Plugs, plugs, plugs.
- 3:47:55SPEAKER_02: So yes, we've been talking about we've been talking about the Time Shift album.
- 3:47:58SPEAKER_02: So just wanted to make sure to give one more plug to Time Shift.
- 3:48:01SPEAKER_02: You you know, you've been you heard snippets and snappets and whip it's and whappets of all the tracks, you know.
- 3:48:09SPEAKER_02: So don't be a Grinch.
- 3:48:11SPEAKER_02: Make sure to check out Time Shift Overclocked Remix 25th Anniversary album.
- 3:48:17SPEAKER_02: Celebrating a long, long, long, long, long 25th anniversary year that is now just concluded.
- 3:48:24SPEAKER_02: And so is one of the one of the most unique album premises that we've had in the community.
- 3:48:30SPEAKER_02: So cheers to Dialect for uh his his absolutely impulsive, crazy decision to to go this route and and do something that's not just the the tried and true uh Nintendo Super Nintendo Source Tunes that we we we always hear.
- 3:48:48SPEAKER_02: We've got some of those too in Timeshift World.
- 3:48:50SPEAKER_02: So everything for every audience bastards, no matter what you want.
- 3:48:56SPEAKER_02: Get the old, a little bit of a little just a little smattering, just a little taste of the old.
- 3:49:02SPEAKER_02: And then the new.
- 3:49:03SPEAKER_02: So fresh, so vivid, with such a because we were talking about the French campaign earlier.
- 3:49:12SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't I didn't say any French words, but that's it.
- 3:49:15SPEAKER_02: So get time shift, make sure to grab that, and then just because you I do many of the write-ups for the featured tracks on OCRemix.org proper, do yourself a favor.
- 3:49:26SPEAKER_02: I say this to everybody, I wouldn't be here myself as community manager and overall video game music enthusiast had I not tried all of the OC remixes that are available on the website.
- 3:49:40SPEAKER_02: So we've got Torrents, you can download the albums, and then most important, the individual remix collection, the bread and butter of Overclock Remix.
- 3:49:51SPEAKER_02: We are almost at uh the number wise at 5,000.
- 3:49:56SPEAKER_02: So make sure to get them all and open your eyes and ears to the wonders of video game music, especially from games that you haven't played.
- 3:50:05SPEAKER_02: Don't just stick with the stuff you're nostalgic for.
- 3:50:07SPEAKER_02: Try everything, and you will find some of your new favorite music.
- 3:50:11SPEAKER_02: So do that.
- 3:50:12SPEAKER_02: That's my shameless plug.
- 3:50:13SPEAKER_11: Continuing on from what continuing on from what uh Larry said, and thank you very much for the kind words about the album.
- 3:50:20SPEAKER_02: Um which I hated, by the way.
- 3:50:23SPEAKER_02: You have to say these nice things on the podcast.
- 3:50:25SPEAKER_02: No, you be quiet.
- 3:50:27SPEAKER_02: See, he's biasing it.
- 3:50:28SPEAKER_02: I hated every moment.
- 3:50:30SPEAKER_11: Okay, case in point, I never got into Mega Man music until I listened to Overclock Remix.
- 3:50:36SPEAKER_02: Oh my what a reveal.
- 3:50:38SPEAKER_11: There you go.
- 3:50:39SPEAKER_02: Hey man, some of us, I say this in my little origin story all the time.
- 3:50:43SPEAKER_02: This is you know, Larry chatter chatting in again because you know, I feel like I've been slandered right there, you know, just because Dialek hasn't played much Mega Man.
- 3:50:51SPEAKER_02: But part of the thing with me and my OC Remix fandom, I always mention this, is that even though I had Super Mario Bros., you know, one, two, and three, and Street Fighter, Streets of Rage, those kinds of things, and I would, those were the games I was looking up when I first heard of OC Remix.
- 3:51:07SPEAKER_02: But that was how I learned about the music and sort of the gameplay a little bit of the Mega Man's, the Secret of Manas, Castlevania, Final Fantasy.
- 3:51:16SPEAKER_02: Like I didn't I'd never heard of Final Fantasy until OC Remix.
- 3:51:20SPEAKER_02: I didn't really care about RPGs.
- 3:51:22SPEAKER_02: I played a little bit, but that wasn't really the stuff I was into as much.
- 3:51:26SPEAKER_02: So getting to learn about stuff, franchises that had a lot of classic game music, OC Remix definitely opened my eyes to a lot of things that I missed in the 8 and 16-bit eras.
- 3:51:40SPEAKER_03: Uh I think, yeah, actually, I think I got into Secret of Mana because of OC Remix.
- 3:51:45SPEAKER_03: I I think I had not even heard of the game.
- 3:51:48SPEAKER_03: Uh also, I want to say, I just whipped out my calculator uh with almost 5,000 tracks.
- 3:51:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, if you listen to just one a day, you'll have music for uh over 13 years.
- 3:52:03SPEAKER_02: Wow, why so slow?
- 3:52:05SPEAKER_02: How dare you?
- 3:52:06SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 3:52:06SPEAKER_02: If you can listen to one a day, you can probably fit 10 a day.
- 3:52:09SPEAKER_02: How much shorter would it be then?
- 3:52:11SPEAKER_02: You do 10 a day, then it'll only take one year, five months, 200 hours, ticks of a clock.
- 3:52:26SPEAKER_02: Oh goodness gracious.
- 3:52:28SPEAKER_02: We're not on Broadway.
- 3:52:30SPEAKER_02: Don't, don't, don't you dare.
- 3:52:32SPEAKER_13: I don't want us to get copyright struck when I would sing that.
- 3:52:35SPEAKER_04: I'm pretty sure I garbled those lyrics, so just go for it, see what happens.
- 3:52:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:52:39SPEAKER_02: Hey, you know what?
- 3:52:40SPEAKER_02: Let me let me let me ask real quick.
- 3:52:41SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna hide I'm gonna hijack the show.
- 3:52:42SPEAKER_02: Again, this is Larry, of course.
- 3:52:44SPEAKER_02: Larry hijacks the show.
- 3:52:45SPEAKER_02: He's a community manager.
- 3:52:46SPEAKER_02: I'm allowed to hijack.
- 3:52:46SPEAKER_02: Now listen.
- 3:52:47SPEAKER_02: You're you are allowed, yes.
- 3:52:48SPEAKER_02: So die luck, now that you've done the one, now sometimes people end up getting the little tasty taste, and they're like, oh, you know, case in point, we've got David there.
- 3:52:58SPEAKER_02: So he could definitely speak to it, right?
- 3:53:00SPEAKER_02: You make one, you're like, you know what?
- 3:53:02SPEAKER_02: Alright, got the got the community album under my belt.
- 3:53:06SPEAKER_02: Feeling it.
- 3:53:06SPEAKER_02: Maybe there could be some more ideas.
- 3:53:08SPEAKER_02: So die luck, are there any more ideas?
- 3:53:10SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 3:53:11SPEAKER_04: I've got a lot of things.
- 3:53:13SPEAKER_04: If you were here earlier, Larry, you would have the answer to that.
- 3:53:16SPEAKER_02: Damn it.
- 3:53:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 3:53:21SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 3:53:21SPEAKER_11: I uh I basically plugged that the next project is going to be Illusion of Gaia Stroke, uh Illusion of Time, because it's got a different name depending on what side of the Atlantic you're from.
- 3:53:31SPEAKER_12: Oh.
- 3:53:32SPEAKER_11: And then I've got two more after that that I'm keeping close to my bit close, uh, close to my chest.
- 3:53:37SPEAKER_04: See.
- 3:53:38SPEAKER_04: But that is how it you do one and then you do another, and then you take a break, and then you come back and do some more.
- 3:53:44SPEAKER_04: It always works out that way.
- 3:53:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I'd I was gonna say, like, the only plug that I've got, and and this is kind of a humorous one, but but kind of is kind of funny.
- 3:53:53SPEAKER_08: Um, it basically shout out to all all the remixes that have been put on the backlog by all the remixers that were so close to seeing the light of day.
- 3:54:02SPEAKER_08: Just just put in that extra effort, guys, and and you can you can push them out, and it'll be amazing.
- 3:54:06SPEAKER_08: We'll have so many more.
- 3:54:08SPEAKER_08: Like, if you have like the 60 or 70 works in progress that I have, I'm sure you guys have more than I do.
- 3:54:13SPEAKER_04: So I mean, you ever had a dream that you could and you and you and you would and you could and you uh you wanted to do them so bad you could do anything?
- 3:54:22SPEAKER_04: Because you know, lots of people have.
- 3:54:25SPEAKER_03: I do want to point out one of the great perks of being a remixer is having an orange name on the Discord.
- 3:54:31SPEAKER_04: Is that what that is?
- 3:54:34SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 3:54:34SPEAKER_03: It's true.
- 3:54:35SPEAKER_03: The orange name club.
- 3:54:37SPEAKER_08: Where the pets we are giving you access to a room that nobody else has access to.
- 3:54:42SPEAKER_08: It's it's it's it's like the grip the uh green room right before you got on stage.
- 3:54:47SPEAKER_13: There's no better orange than the orange name club.
- 3:54:51SPEAKER_04: Can I plug one more thing?
- 3:54:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, go for it.
- 3:54:53SPEAKER_04: Just because I feel like I should.
- 3:54:55SPEAKER_04: It it's it's part of OC Remix history.
- 3:54:57SPEAKER_04: Uh is that I think it's the 14th anniversary of the very first badass album.
- 3:55:04SPEAKER_03: Um I believe the first one was badass boss themes.
- 3:55:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, badass boss themes.
- 3:55:14SPEAKER_04: Uh wick it up.
- 3:55:15SPEAKER_04: I think it's been four or five five years?
- 3:55:17SPEAKER_04: I forget where to start counting of uh Paragons and Renegades, which is can't believe that much time has passed by.
- 3:55:23SPEAKER_03: I think like co-worker is on the first badass boss themes.
- 3:55:28SPEAKER_03: Actually, it is it is five years.
- 3:55:31SPEAKER_03: Uh oh, I'm trying to remember his screen name.
- 3:55:33SPEAKER_03: Uh his name's Erwin.
- 3:55:36SPEAKER_03: Erwin Kwan, yeah.
- 3:55:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's it.
- 3:55:38SPEAKER_03: And Arcana.
- 3:55:40SPEAKER_03: Arcana.
- 3:55:42SPEAKER_03: He is literally like three offices down from me.
- 3:55:45SPEAKER_13: Small world.
- 3:55:46SPEAKER_03: Oh wow.
- 3:55:47SPEAKER_04: Small world.
- 3:55:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:55:48SPEAKER_13: All of the badass albums are uh are mainstays for my DD playlist.
- 3:55:53SPEAKER_13: Oh that's great.
- 3:55:55SPEAKER_04: I would have never even thought of it that way, but yeah, hell yeah.
- 3:55:58SPEAKER_04: And there are what, four badass albums now?
- 3:56:00SPEAKER_04: There's yeah.
- 3:56:01SPEAKER_11: Mm-hmm.
- 3:56:02SPEAKER_11: Went to the next one.
- 3:56:03SPEAKER_04: I don't know who wants to pick up the torch before.
- 3:56:07SPEAKER_02: That's right, that's right.
- 3:56:08SPEAKER_02: Gotta pick up the mantle.
- 3:56:09SPEAKER_04: I want badass main menu theme music.
- 3:56:12SPEAKER_04: I want badass select theme music.
- 3:56:14SPEAKER_04: I want badass safe room theme music.
- 3:56:16SPEAKER_03: Oh badass character screen select music would be pretty great.
- 3:56:21SPEAKER_03: Oh, dude.
- 3:56:22SPEAKER_04: Take you for a ride.
- 3:56:24SPEAKER_03: Take you for a ride.
- 3:56:27SPEAKER_13: Instructions unclear all Resident Evil Savering theme remix.
- 3:56:31SPEAKER_10: Definition.
- 3:56:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 3:56:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 3:56:35SPEAKER_03: Uh did you guys hear that um uh 8 bit Big Band did uh an incredible, like super fleshed out version of Take You for a Ride?
- 3:56:47SPEAKER_03: Oh man, I haven't, but it is uh I'll I'll I'll I'll drop it in chat.
- 3:56:51SPEAKER_03: It's incredible.
- 3:56:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, thank you for putting that on my radar.
- 3:56:54SPEAKER_02: Because uh no, listen, I mean, as somebody that played Marvel vs.
- 3:56:58SPEAKER_02: Capcom 2 back when it actually came out, uh people were clowning on that soundtrack.
- 3:57:04SPEAKER_02: It was crazy.
- 3:57:05SPEAKER_03: It's so good though.
- 3:57:07SPEAKER_02: A lot of people, no, a lot of people loved it though.
- 3:57:09SPEAKER_02: That's the thing, right?
- 3:57:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, people would people would fight about it.
- 3:57:11SPEAKER_02: They'd be like, oh man, stupid, stupid jazz music, what's going on here?
- 3:57:15SPEAKER_02: It's like, man, this stuff is awesome.
- 3:57:16SPEAKER_04: And now it's all Mario music, is is that's what it sounds like.
- 3:57:20SPEAKER_03: It's just that I remember really liking it, if only because like I'm pretty sure it's at least one of the same composers as Breath of Fire 3, which is oh cool, one of my all-time favorites.
- 3:57:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, Mar and Marvel vs.
- 3:57:33SPEAKER_02: Capcom 2 is a vastly underrated soundtrack.
- 3:57:36SPEAKER_02: And even even if somehow it was overrated, it's still underrated.
- 3:57:40SPEAKER_02: Because it's phenomenal.
- 3:57:42SPEAKER_02: And look, maybe it maybe it goes against type for fighting games, but it was a lot of fun.
- 3:57:47SPEAKER_04: Those are the best kind of fighting games, though, the ones that go against type.
- 3:57:50SPEAKER_02: Loved it, loved it, loved it.
- 3:57:52SPEAKER_04: Uh has everyone plugged?
- 3:57:54SPEAKER_03: Are we missing anyone?
- 3:57:56SPEAKER_03: Oh man, they they have to have been done.
- 3:57:58SPEAKER_02: If you haven't spoken up now, you're dead to me.
- 3:58:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we all spoke up.
- 3:58:02SPEAKER_11: I mean, other than uh timeshift.ocremix.org.
- 3:58:05SPEAKER_11: Time shift.ocremix.org.
- 3:58:07SPEAKER_03: That's right.
- 3:58:08SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 3:58:12SPEAKER_02: How many Grammy winners do you have?
- 3:58:14SPEAKER_02: Or well, you know, Grammy nominees rather.
- 3:58:16SPEAKER_02: We don't know yet.
- 3:58:18SPEAKER_02: How many Grammy nominees do you have on your video game music album?
- 3:58:21SPEAKER_02: You're not the only ones who got the Grammys, a big big band.
- 3:58:25SPEAKER_04: I have one on badass, at least.
- 3:58:27SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 3:58:28unknown: Yeah.
- 3:58:28SPEAKER_04: Is it Bustatunes?
- 3:58:30SPEAKER_04: Is it two?
- 3:58:31SPEAKER_04: There's two.
- 3:58:32SPEAKER_04: Oh.
- 3:58:34SPEAKER_04: Who's the other one?
- 3:58:35SPEAKER_04: Me.
- 3:58:36SPEAKER_03: Are you serious?
- 3:58:37SPEAKER_03: What are we talking about?
- 3:58:38SPEAKER_04: Yeah, not for music, that's for sound design.
- 3:58:40SPEAKER_03: Anyway.
- 3:58:40SPEAKER_03: Oh, I mean still.
- 3:58:41SPEAKER_03: Well, Grammy's a Grammy.
- 3:58:43SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's a good one.
- 3:58:44SPEAKER_02: How do I find that, brother?
- 3:58:46SPEAKER_02: Never mind.
- 3:58:47SPEAKER_02: It was uh sport.
- 3:58:48SPEAKER_02: Uh that doesn't count then.
- 3:58:51SPEAKER_03: No.
- 3:58:51SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 3:58:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, we don't care if that goes.
- 3:58:54SPEAKER_04: That was just part of a team that got nominated.
- 3:58:55SPEAKER_04: It wasn't even me.
- 3:58:56SPEAKER_04: I just like to make it sound like a son of a debated.
- 3:59:01SPEAKER_03: So, like, uh if you if you ever look like a uh at a biology paper, uh my wife's a scientist, so we sometimes just have like journal articles laying around the house.
- 3:59:12SPEAKER_03: And um you look at like a biology paper and there's like 80 authors, I I think I think you can say you got an Oscar.
- 3:59:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like if you were part of the orchestra or something like that.
- 3:59:25SPEAKER_02: I I know not in that case, right?
- 3:59:26SPEAKER_02: But if you're part of an orchestra that was nominated, right?
- 3:59:29SPEAKER_02: There's like a hundred musicians in there or something.
- 3:59:31SPEAKER_02: You can that counts.
- 3:59:33SPEAKER_02: It has to.
- 3:59:34SPEAKER_02: You're part of it.
- 3:59:35SPEAKER_02: So that's amazing.
- 3:59:36SPEAKER_02: You're not gonna reveal for what what for?
- 3:59:38SPEAKER_02: Like, can we find this?
- 3:59:39SPEAKER_04: Or are we talking about me?
- 3:59:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you David.
- 3:59:42SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, it was uh Who else got nominated for an Oscar?
- 3:59:45SPEAKER_04: Well, not me, just the team I was on.
- 3:59:48SPEAKER_02: It still counts.
- 3:59:50SPEAKER_04: So before all of this, I've been putting on this weird sound effect I made.
- 3:59:53SPEAKER_04: It was for a VR game.
- 3:59:55SPEAKER_02: Oh, was it a Roblox oof?
- 3:59:57SPEAKER_02: Is that you?
- 3:59:59SPEAKER_04: It was a Spider-Man Homecoming VR back in the day.
- 4:00:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 4:00:03SPEAKER_04: I uh I did some sound editing for that and sound effects, uh, along with uh my buddy and uh rest in peace to him, Justin Lasson.
- 4:00:13SPEAKER_04: We worked on that game together.
- 4:00:15SPEAKER_04: Uh and yeah, uh I think by sheer luck there wasn't a huge amount of VR and they put a VR category there, we made it in.
- 4:00:24SPEAKER_03: It was awesome.
- 4:00:25SPEAKER_03: Sweet, man.
- 4:00:26SPEAKER_03: I you know, OCR celebrates mostly video game music, but sound design in general is just so important to my like personal experience with games.
- 4:00:37SPEAKER_02: Oh man, we're gonna have to get David to host a little uh informational session about sound design.
- 4:00:44SPEAKER_04: You can get a microphone and then you make noises with your mouth, and then you put it through uh distortion.
- 4:00:49SPEAKER_04: Uh-huh.
- 4:00:50SPEAKER_04: Yeah, or then you can make nice stuff like nice very nice.
- 4:00:57SPEAKER_11: Or you can even talk like this.
- 4:00:59SPEAKER_11: Oh, what ooh, what the heck?
- 4:01:02SPEAKER_14: Or you could just make funny voices.
- 4:01:05SPEAKER_14: You can put on air.
- 4:01:07SPEAKER_03: Well, I want to thank all of you uh for doing this.
- 4:01:12SPEAKER_03: This is fantastic.
- 4:01:15SPEAKER_03: No, no, no.
- 4:01:15SPEAKER_03: Don't you dare cut me off here.
- 4:01:17SPEAKER_02: No.
- 4:01:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh no, you could uh I want to uh do stuff like this more often for the pod.
- 4:01:27SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, it's just been me talking alone into a microphone for a year now, and I I I really want to branch out and do more stuff.
- 4:01:35SPEAKER_03: So thank you all for uh helping me start.
- 4:02:16SPEAKER_03: Well, that was that.
- 4:02:19SPEAKER_03: A totally different way to end the year than we started the year.
- 4:02:23SPEAKER_03: Our outro music was Hot for April by Sixto Sounds from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Turtles and Time.
- 4:02:32SPEAKER_03: Here's where I'd usually plug helping me pay my server costs, but Colorado Weeks already handled that.
- 4:02:39SPEAKER_03: But I will still plug, please come chat with us on Discord.
- 4:02:44SPEAKER_03: If you enjoyed hearing us talk, then maybe you'll enjoy joining us for a chat.
- 4:02:50SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna keep it short.
- 4:02:51SPEAKER_03: We'll do the remix roulette really quick here.
- 4:02:55SPEAKER_03: That's number six from Sonic the Hedgehog.
- 4:02:59SPEAKER_03: Did a hedgehog just come through here?
- 4:03:01SPEAKER_03: By Argyll and Scholar.
- 4:03:04SPEAKER_03: Alright everyone, have a happy new year, and I'll see you next time.
