- 0:12Hello friends, it's shown here. It is a new week.
- 0:15It's Monday, it is the 27th of May.
- 0:19Thank you for tapping on play and inviting me into your day.
- 0:22Hope you're doing well. Hope the week ahead is looking
- 0:25full of promise and not too scary from your vantage point.
- 0:30But no matter what your week looks like, we we are in for a
- 0:33Solomon tastic week. We are going to today and
- 0:37tomorrow finish off the first stanza of the book of Proverbs.
- 0:40And then we are going to start reading through the book of
- 0:44Ecclesiastes in which we will spend the next three weeks.
- 0:49And then and then we are going to dive back into the New
- 0:52Testament for a few months and cover well, cover a lot of
- 0:56territory in the New Testament. But that is for a few weeks
- 0:59time. For now, we are focusing on
- 1:02finishing off Proverbs as we read the last two chapters of
- 1:07this first part. That really sets the stage, sets
- 1:10the scene as the Father converses with his son, telling
- 1:14him about the joys of wisdom to be pursued in his life.
- 1:20So that is what we are going to do together, friends.
- 1:23So gather round two in your ears, Holy Spirit.
- 1:28Open our hearts so that we can hear your truth.
- 1:33Alright friends, let us read together Proverbs chapter 8.
- 1:50Listen as wisdom calls out here, as understanding raises her
- 1:55voice on the hilltop along the road, she takes her stand at the
- 2:00crossroads, by the gates, at the entrance to the town, on the
- 2:04road leading in, she cries out. I call to you, to all of you.
- 2:09I raised my voice to all people. You simple people use good
- 2:14judgement. You foolish people show some
- 2:16understanding. Listen to me, for I have
- 2:20important things to tell you. Everything I say is right, for I
- 2:24speak the truth and detest every kind of deception.
- 2:29My advice is wholesome. There is nothing devious or
- 2:33crooked in it. My words are plain to anyone
- 2:36with understanding, clear to those with knowledge.
- 2:40Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge
- 2:44rather than pure gold, for wisdom is far more valuable than
- 2:49rubies. Nothing you desire can compare
- 2:52with it. I wisdom live together with good
- 2:56judgement. I know where to discover
- 2:59knowledge and discernment. All who fear the Lord will hate
- 3:04evil. Therefore, I hate pride and
- 3:07arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.
- 3:11Common sense and success belong to me, insight and strength and
- 3:16mine because of me. King's reign and rulers make
- 3:19just decrees, rulers lead with my help, and nobles make
- 3:24righteous judgments. I love all who love me.
- 3:29There's the search will surely find me.
- 3:32I have riches and honour, as well as enduring wealth and
- 3:35justice. My gifts are better than gold,
- 3:38even the purest gold. My wages better than sterling
- 3:42silver. I walk in righteousness, in
- 3:45paths of justice. Those who love me inherit
- 3:49wealth. I will fill their treasures.
- 3:53The Lord formed me from the beginning before He created
- 3:56anything else. I was appointed in ages past as
- 4:00the very first before the Earth began.
- 4:04I was born before the oceans were created, before the springs
- 4:08bubbled forth their waters, before the mountains were
- 4:12formed, before the hills. I was born before he had made
- 4:16the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil.
- 4:21I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the
- 4:24horizon on the oceans. I was there when he set the
- 4:28clouds above, when he established springs deep in the
- 4:33earth. I was there when he set the
- 4:35limits of the Seas so they would not spread beyond their
- 4:39boundaries, and when he marked off the earth's foundations.
- 4:43I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight,
- 4:48rejoicing always in his presence.
- 4:51And how happy I was with the world He created, How I rejoiced
- 4:56with the human family. And so my children listened to
- 5:00me. For all who follow my ways, I
- 5:03joyful listen to my instruction and be wise.
- 5:07Don't ignore it. Joyful are those who listen to
- 5:10me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my
- 5:15home, for whoever finds me finds life and receives favour from
- 5:21the Lord. But those who miss me injure
- 5:25themselves. All who hate me love death.
- 5:41Our Lord, you truly do lie at the heart of all wisdom, and you
- 5:47are so wise. Wisdom is implicit in all that
- 5:50you have done, right there besides you creating the world
- 5:55and everything in it. Thank you for the simplicity
- 5:59that you offer us about wisdom. That wisdom is not some lofty
- 6:04ideal filled with incomprehensible knowledge, but
- 6:07wisdom is putting you first. Wisdom is putting you at the
- 6:11centre of our lives. And so that's what we do right
- 6:15now, and we need your help, Holy Spirit, to shift our own
- 6:20priorities away from the Nexus, away from the heart of it all,
- 6:24so that you can take your place on that throne in our heart
- 6:30because we worship you, our Father, when we love you and we
- 6:36pray all these things. And the precious saving name of
- 6:39Jesus. Ah, man.
