- 3:30increase. It's all about you, King.
- 3:33Jesus, teach us your eternal paths.
- 3:36We love you, Father. You are a Jehovah Nisi, Elroy.
- 3:42You see us, God. You're the banner, you're the
- 3:45healer, you're the provider, you're the great Physician.
- 3:49You are the supreme. You are the very top tier.
- 3:55You are high and exalted over all of our emotions and
- 3:59circumstances and feelings. God, it's all about you.
- 4:02Yes, Jesus, we love you, Holy Spirit, fill us today.
- 4:07And it's in Jesus Christ, holy and precious name that I pray.
- 4:12Amen. Well, let's start in verse one
- 4:20now. When Festus was coming to the
- 4:26province after three days, he ascended from Caesarea to
- 4:31Jerusalem. What you need to know is history
- 4:34tells us that Felix from the last chapter was not a very
- 4:40godly man. He was not liked by the masses,
- 4:46and here you're going to see old Festus coming onto the scene and
- 4:51he was a very likable ruler and he tried to do the right things
- 4:56and you're going to see that played out through this chapter
- 4:592. Then the high priest and the
- 5:03chief of the Jews informed him against Paul and begged him.
- 5:09Here we see the degradation of these Jewish leaders who see
- 5:16their opportunity as Felix is out and Festus is in, and you
- 5:21can see that they are so reprobate that they look for any
- 5:31opportunity. They're bloodthirsty and want to
- 5:36kill and murder ambush Paul and they're trying to plot his
- 5:42demise right here and right now. But Festus is going to see
- 5:47through it all three and desired favor against him that he would
- 5:52send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill
- 5:57him. So they were going to wait on
- 5:59the road and as soon as Paul got close enough into Jerusalem,
- 6:03they were going to ambush and kill him.
- 6:06Because they were so offended by the truth.
- 6:10They were so steeped in idolatry.
- 6:12They were so steeped in envy and greed.
- 6:15And because Paul was preaching a better way, the way, the truth
- 6:22and the life, Jesus Christ the first born resurrected from the
- 6:27dead. Because Paul was preaching the
- 6:30truth and they were steeped in a lie, they wanted him out of the
- 6:34way and dead. And don't be surprised if that
- 6:39is what you see happening whenever you are speaking the
- 6:43truth and people are so steeped in a lie and they do not want to
- 6:47come honestly to Yahweh. 4 But Festus answered that Paul should
- 6:58be kept at Caesarea, and that he himself would depart shortly
- 7:05from there. So here Festus sees through
- 7:10their plot, and he keeps Paul by divine Providence secure, so
- 7:18that Paul can write most of our New Testament friends. 5 Let
- 7:24them therefore, said he, which among you are able go down with
- 7:30me and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in them?
- 7:35And of course there was no wickedness in them.
- 7:38Paul was right with God. Paul was inspired by the Holy
- 7:44Spirit to pen the letters that you and I hold in such high
- 7:47regard. And here Festus is prodding and
- 7:54provoking them, saying, If there be any charge against him, come
- 7:59and make it plain. 6 And when he had tarried among them more than
- 8:0610 days, he went down unto Caesarea, and the next day,
- 8:11sitting on the judgment seat, commanded Paul to be brought.
- 8:15So here Festus is coming in to his new position and he is very
- 8:22quick to go to Jerusalem, which would have been the most
- 8:26important city in his province. And here the Jews are trying to
- 8:31twist the truth to get him to bring Paul so they can ambush
- 8:37and murder him. And then because of this
- 8:39provocation, old Fascist wants to bring Paul out to hear from
- 8:44him himself. Let's see what happens. 7 And
- 8:49when he was come, the Jews, which came down from Jerusalem,
- 8:55stood round about and laid many and grievous complaints against
- 9:00Paul, which they could not prove.
- 9:03So here the physician Luke, who's writing the book of Acts,
- 9:07is showing us, and also showing the High Court in Rome that
- 9:14there is no substantiality to any of the accusations that were
- 9:20brought against Paul. Imagine that 8 While he answered
- 9:28for himself, neither against the law of the Jews, neither against
- 9:32the Temple nor yet against Caesar have I offended anything
- 9:37at all. So Paul is saying, I have not
- 9:42broken any law of the Jews or of Rome 9 But Festus, willing to do
- 9:52the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul and said, Will you go up to
- 9:58Jerusalem, and there be judges of these things before me?
- 10:02So here Festus is asking Paul if he would be willing to be
- 10:08relocated back to Jerusalem, to the Sanhedrin, and that he would
- 10:14stand before them. Let's see how God is moving all
- 10:20of this divine timeline, Friends. 10 Then, said Paul, I
- 10:27stand at Caesar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged to
- 10:33the Jews. I have done no wrong, as you
- 10:36very well know. So he's saying, I am a Roman
- 10:39citizen, and I have the right to appeal to the highest Supreme
- 10:45Court of the land. I appeal unto Caesar, 11 For if
- 10:52I be an offender, or have committed anything worthy of
- 10:57death, I refuse not to die. But if there be none of these
- 11:01things, whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them.
- 11:07I appeal unto Caesar. So here Paul is going around
- 11:14them and saying, You have no power over me.
- 11:18And here you also can see God's divine Providence for Paul to
- 11:23give him the space and the time to be able to write most of our
- 11:26New Testament friends. 12 Then Festus, when he had conferred
- 11:33with the council, answered, Have you appealed to Caesar?
- 11:38Unto Caesar you shall go. So there you go.
- 11:43That is how Paul gets a first class ticket to Rome to speak
- 11:49before more Gentile rulers. Imagine that God has Paul
- 11:56speaking the truth to every High Court in the land and letting
- 12:02them know that Jesus is the way. 13 And after certain days, King
- 12:11Agrippa and Bernice came unto Caesarea to salute Festus.
- 12:19So here is the great grandson of the Herod that tried to kill
- 12:27Jesus as a baby and had all the children to and under in Rama
- 12:34murdered. He is the This is the grandson
- 12:40of the Herod that had John the Baptist beheaded.
- 12:46He is the son of the Herod that had the apostle James martyred.
- 12:54And here he is coming to listen to Paul to see what he ought to
- 13:01say. And he's bringing his sibling
- 13:05with him. And there are a lot of
- 13:07commentators and a lot of scholars who believe this was an
- 13:11incestuous relationship and that it was despicable and disgusting
- 13:17in the sight of God. Let's see what happens here. 14
- 13:22And when they had been there many days, Festus declared
- 13:26Paul's calls unto the king, saying, There is a certain man
- 13:31left in bonds by Felix. 15 About whom?
- 13:36When I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of
- 13:40the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him, 16
- 13:46To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to
- 13:52deliver any man to die before that he which is accused have
- 13:58the accusers face to face, and have license to answer for
- 14:02himself concerning the crime laid against him.
- 14:06So here you can see the hypocrisy and the duplicity.
- 14:10You can see all of the debased delusion that these rulers have
- 14:20attributed to themselves. They have kept Paul in chains
- 14:26and in prison, and they have no charges to substantiate this
- 14:34imprisonment. And here Festus is inviting
- 14:41Agrippa and Bernice to come and try to find some kind of
- 14:48accusation that Festus can send to Caesar 'cause he can't send
- 14:54Paul to Rome and to Caesar with no charges.
- 14:59He cannot just send him there and say, I have no idea why this
- 15:03man has been in custody in my care.
- 15:07He should be exonerated, He should be released from prison.
- 15:13The charges which there are none, should be completely
- 15:17dissolved, and he should get some kind of recompensation for
- 15:23all of the time lost. But because God is controlling
- 15:29the levers here, friends, Paul is left in prison to continue to
- 15:34write to us that we are eternally blessed by this
- 15:38imprisonment. And that is why you cannot
- 15:41approach God from a moralistic way.
- 15:44God's ways are not our ways. God's thoughts are not our
- 15:46thoughts, friends. And when God tells the Jews to
- 15:50annihilate an entire people group, every man, woman, child
- 15:55and animal, and you look back and you say far be it from us to
- 15:59ever serve a God like that. That is why we can never
- 16:05approach God from a moralistic way.
- 16:07We must approach him honestly and in a way that we just say,
- 16:10God, we do not understand you, but we serve you and we love you
- 16:14and we just want to be found doing whatever it is that you've
- 16:17called us into. You say sell everything, we sell
- 16:20everything. You say follow us.
- 16:22We follow you, God, and where you go we want to be.
- 16:25And we will not go unless you go with us, God Almighty. 17
- 16:33Therefore when they were come here without any delay on the
- 16:37Morrow, I sat on the judgement seat and commanded the man to be
- 16:41brought for 18 against whom, when the accuser stood up, they
- 16:47brought no accusation of such things that I supposed.
- 16:51So he's saying all of it was just a bunch of rigamarole.
- 17:00There was no substance to any of it.
- 17:03It's empty and I need something to send to Caesar.
- 17:08Help me. 19 but had certain questions against him of their
- 17:14own superstition. And of 1 Jesus, which was dead,
- 17:21who Paul affirmed to be alive. That's the crux of the whole
- 17:25matter, of the whole situation. We serve a risen God.
- 17:31Jesus has no grave that you can go and visit, Friends.
- 17:36Jesus is not one of many ways, Friends.
- 17:39He's not just a good religious teacher.
- 17:43Jesus is not just a prophet. Jesus is alive.
- 17:50We serve a risen resurrected king, friends.
- 17:57And here old Festus, he's trying to get Agrippa and Bernice to
- 18:02try to give him some kind of substance to go off of, and it
- 18:07can't be on the superstition of the man named Jesus, who's dead,
- 18:13but Paul says is alive. 20 And because I doubted of such a
- 18:20manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to
- 18:23Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters. 21 But when
- 18:28Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I
- 18:34commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Caesar. 22
- 18:40Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself.
- 18:46Tomorrow he said, You shall hear him. 23 And on the Morrow, when
- 18:53Agrippa was come, and Bernice with great pomp, and was entered
- 18:58into the place of hearing with the chief captains and the
- 19:01principal men of the city, at Festus's commandment, Paul was
- 19:06brought forth. Look at all this pomp and
- 19:08circumstance. Look at all of this ceremony.
- 19:15And this was to put Paul in his place as just a bond servant, as
- 19:21just a prisoner. And this Festus Bernice Agrapha,
- 19:29they were elevating themselves into a lofty position to prove
- 19:35to Paul and all those that were in the court that they were the
- 19:39ones to be looked up to. And it's like Pilate said to
- 19:42Jesus, do you not know who I am? I have the power to release you.
- 19:48And Jesus says you have no power over me but that which has been
- 19:54given to you by my father. And here you have to understand
- 19:58that Paul is the one who's in the driver's seat, friends, Paul
- 20:02is the one because he's taken the lowly position of a
- 20:06bondservant. Paul is the one elevated.
- 20:09Look at all eyes are on Paul and what he says has supreme
- 20:15importance in the gravity that we all.
- 20:19Need to lock in and pay attention to and we need to know
- 20:28that if you exalt yourself you will be brought low.
- 20:32But if you will practice humility, in due time God will
- 20:37raise you up. 24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men
- 20:47which are here present with us, you see this man about whom all
- 20:52the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem
- 20:58and also here, crying that he ought not live any longer.
- 21:03Can you see Paul being brought out with all the scars that he
- 21:08bore from all the beatings and the stonings that he has
- 21:12suffered for the namesake of Jesus Christ?
- 21:16And here he stands before them in a prisoner's garb, as all of
- 21:21them are dressed in their highfalutin ways?
- 21:2725 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of
- 21:33death, and that he himself has appealed to Augustus, I have
- 21:38determined to send him. So there is no claim on him.
- 21:46Death has no hold on him, friends, He is God's protected,
- 21:55and he will do exactly what God has him to do.
- 21:59And that is your call, and that is my call, and we must be found
- 22:03serving God Almighty, and you are blood bought and bulletproof
- 22:08until the Lord calls you home. 26 Of whom I have no certain
- 22:18thing to write unto my Lord. Wherefore I have brought him
- 22:24forth before you, and especially before you, O King Agrapha, that
- 22:30after examination, had I might have somewhat to write, we'll
- 22:36end on 27. For it seems to me unreasonable
- 22:41to send a prisoner, and not with all to signify the crimes laid
- 22:46against him. There is no crime laid against
- 22:51Paul, because he has not committed a crime worthy of
- 22:54imprisonment and death. And it was at this saying that
- 22:58they should have unlocked the chains, given him
- 23:03recompensation, and let him free.
- 23:07But God can use it without excusing it.
- 23:12God's going to use this to edify the church for all time sake.
- 23:19But it does not excuse Felix and Festus and Bernice and Agra.
- 23:25It does not excuse Augustus. It does not excuse Lysias.
- 23:31It does not excuse them, friends, and that is what you
- 23:36need to know about God is that God is moving everything in
- 23:41accordance with the timeline, friends, and we need to watch
- 23:46Israel. That is God's timepiece in the
- 23:49world today. I hope that you've been blessed
- 23:52by this amazing chapter here in the Word of God.
- 23:56I know I sure have. I'm praying for you, praying in
- 24:08the name of Jesus for your healing.
- 24:13I'm praying in the name of Jesus for a sound mind for your
- 24:18family. I'm praying in the name of Jesus
- 24:24that the love of God will overwhelm you.
- 24:30I love you. So does God, so does Jesus, so
- 24:35does the Holy Ghost. Empty yourself of yourself and
- 24:39be filled with the Holy Ghost today.
- 24:45We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 24:47God bless you.
