- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is spoil Me,
- 0:08Speaker 1: covering one piece episodes six seventy three through six seventy five,
- 0:17Speaker 1: The Rupture, Human Gladyas blows up big time, a liar
- 0:22Speaker 1: Uselind on the run, and a fateful encounter Kiros and
- 0:27Speaker 1: King Riku. In these episodes, I still must protest what
- 0:37Speaker 1: they are doing to us up in these episodes, even
- 0:41Speaker 1: if it is fulfiller, I must protest. I do not
- 0:45Speaker 1: care for it. Welcome to spoil Me, Welcome to the
- 1:08Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:11Speaker 1: Florian for commissioning these episodes. Yeah, you guys, I will
- 1:18Speaker 1: back up and I will start from the beginning, I swear,
- 1:21Speaker 1: But I just had to address right off the top
- 1:24Speaker 1: that it is some real character assassination that they are
- 1:28Speaker 1: doing and I don't like it. So first I have
- 1:34Speaker 1: to warn everybody. I don't know who else is watching
- 1:37Speaker 1: the show via Hulu, but today when I logged in,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it says that the show is going to be expiring
- 1:44Speaker 1: in eleven days, so I'm gonna have to go sign
- 1:46Speaker 1: up for Crunchy Role again. But yeah, it's just you guys.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Just a very brief aside but can we all just
- 1:58Speaker 1: for a moment agree what garbage this whole streaming process
- 2:03Speaker 1: has become. I truly it's so exhausting to like have
- 2:09Speaker 1: things start and disappear and new series get immediately canceled.
- 2:15Speaker 1: And this is available here, but only like the first
- 2:18Speaker 1: two seasons, because then so and so started making it
- 2:21Speaker 1: so now you have to switch to this other provider
- 2:23Speaker 1: to get the last three seasons, or you can watch
- 2:25Speaker 1: the first two seasons, but like two particular episode they
- 2:28Speaker 1: had problems with music rights, so it's just missing two
- 2:31Speaker 1: like important episodes from the middle of the fucking story. Like,
- 2:35Speaker 1: there's just so much shit that happens, and it is
- 2:38Speaker 1: extremely annoying. So when we start at the beginning of
- 2:48Speaker 1: episode six six seventy three, the Rupture Human, we have
- 2:54Speaker 1: got the the whole like situation with the toy soldier Kiros.
- 3:03Speaker 1: I'm gonna try really hard to remember Kiros by name,
- 3:09Speaker 1: but there is a part of me that's probably, like
- 3:13Speaker 1: you guys know, I'm notoriously kind of not great with names,
- 3:17Speaker 1: and so I will likely have to default to toy
- 3:19Speaker 1: soldiers sometimes, even though we know who he is as
- 3:21Speaker 1: a person, but he is being helped along by a
- 3:29Speaker 1: bunch of the Tantata people and they are getting him
- 3:36Speaker 1: out of the line of fire, despite him saying like,
- 3:40Speaker 1: you guys, we can't leave everybody there. We have got
- 3:43Speaker 1: to do something and go back and help them. But
- 3:46Speaker 1: these folks are very firmly on the you have got
- 3:51Speaker 1: to survive this, like, we can't do this without you.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Everybody else knows what they signed up for, but we
- 4:01Speaker 1: were absolutely no way are we going to put you
- 4:04Speaker 1: in a position where you might die. So yeah, he is.
- 4:09Speaker 1: He is being brought somewhere and are fucking the way
- 4:18Speaker 1: that the tantada looks so different, all of them. They
- 4:22Speaker 1: each have such a really distinctive like it's kind of
- 4:28Speaker 1: fascinating how some of them look like insects. Some of
- 4:31Speaker 1: them look like insects on the front half. But then
- 4:33Speaker 1: they've got like a foxtail coming out, just a lot
- 4:38Speaker 1: of fun design that I think is really interesting. But
- 4:44Speaker 1: they get jumped by some batties in the hallway, and
- 4:48Speaker 1: of course Kiro's manages to fight them off, and is
- 4:53Speaker 1: I love that He's like, I'm sorry, guys, suddenly came
- 4:58Speaker 1: over me. He's riding this little like one. It's a
- 5:03Speaker 1: platform with wheels that's like just big enough for his
- 5:06Speaker 1: one foot to stand on, and so they are able
- 5:08Speaker 1: to really rush with him despite him only having one leg.
- 5:14Speaker 1: And as they are heading forward, this is when they
- 5:20Speaker 1: run into Gladius, who is an executive and has the
- 5:27Speaker 1: rupture rupture fruit, I think, which means that he can
- 5:32Speaker 1: make things blow up, including himself. He can turn himself
- 5:38Speaker 1: into a bomb essentially, and he won't be hurt by it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: They will be like he can blow other people up
- 5:47Speaker 1: like bombs as well. I the idea of like a
- 5:54Speaker 1: lot of these devil fruit powers are pretty unnerving. You
- 5:58Speaker 1: guys know that a lot of them that make you
- 6:02Speaker 1: do certain things, take away or free will, all of
- 6:05Speaker 1: that have been really really troubling. But and I maintain
- 6:12Speaker 1: that like the whatever the toy toy fruit was, is
- 6:17Speaker 1: that what it is that like people retaining their memories
- 6:21Speaker 1: but nobody else remembering them and being able to like
- 6:24Speaker 1: control their actions is the worst one out of all
- 6:29Speaker 1: the powers that we have seen. I definitely think it's
- 6:31Speaker 1: like the most frightening. But the idea of somebody being
- 6:35Speaker 1: able to actually turn you into a weapon so that
- 6:40Speaker 1: it not only hurts you but could potentially hurt everyone
- 6:43Speaker 1: around you. Also is very unfair that one hurts. I
- 6:50Speaker 1: really hate that. So this dude is so that his
- 6:59Speaker 1: look is just so dope. I know that I have
- 7:02Speaker 1: said this before, but what an awesome fucking costume he's got.
- 7:08Speaker 1: So it's a black and yellow design, and I've described before,
- 7:14Speaker 1: like the spiky hair and the goggles and everything, but
- 7:18Speaker 1: I don't think I fully like saw the rest of
- 7:20Speaker 1: the outfit, and it is just there are so many
- 7:25Speaker 1: costumes in this show that like a portion of it
- 7:30Speaker 1: looks really badass, and then you see the other half
- 7:32Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, well, never mind. I thought this
- 7:36Speaker 1: was intimidating and imposing, but this guy's wearing a tutu
- 7:40Speaker 1: or no pants or a diaper or you know, like
- 7:46Speaker 1: any number of things that sort of ruin the effect.
- 7:49Speaker 1: But this guy's got I I'm not sure if it's
- 7:53Speaker 1: like basically a skirt a kilt, or like there are
- 7:57Speaker 1: those pants that have the the of the pants is
- 8:01Speaker 1: so low, like they have no en seem basically so
- 8:05Speaker 1: that it kind of looks like a skirt, but it
- 8:06Speaker 1: does have two separate holes for the legs. I don't
- 8:10Speaker 1: know what it is, but he's got a long coat
- 8:12Speaker 1: over it all, so either way it winds up being
- 8:15Speaker 1: this very sort of streamlined look. And he raises his
- 8:21Speaker 1: arms and his forearms begin to like puff outward, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: the tintada come at him and he grips both of
- 8:32Speaker 1: them up in his hands. And I was so agitated
- 8:36Speaker 1: by this. He says, maybe you're more like insects, and
- 8:43Speaker 1: fucking Kiros is yelling for him to let them go,
- 8:46Speaker 1: and his arms just keep expanding and expanding until they're
- 8:50Speaker 1: basically bigger than his entire body, and then they explode
- 8:56Speaker 1: and these poor little guys go flying. It's it's sort
- 9:00Speaker 1: of weird because he said that I can make you explode,
- 9:03Speaker 1: but he doesn't actually do that to their bodies. It's
- 9:07Speaker 1: like he explodes his own arms, and that explosion is
- 9:11Speaker 1: supposed to be what hurts them. But it's different than
- 9:16Speaker 1: what he had described earlier. Okay, it is like a skirt,
- 9:20Speaker 1: and it's like a long skirt with black boots underneath,
- 9:25Speaker 1: and the black boots are like actually completely match the
- 9:30Speaker 1: coat and everything. I just really am pointing this out
- 9:33Speaker 1: because again, there are so many times where this would
- 9:37Speaker 1: look great, and then you would see his shoes and
- 9:39Speaker 1: he would be wearing like like tube socks or something
- 9:44Speaker 1: weird that would just completely undermine the whole thing. But
- 9:47Speaker 1: this is one of those rare times where the entire
- 9:51Speaker 1: costume from top to bottom is genuinely really badass in
- 9:56Speaker 1: a way that I think I wish that we got
- 9:59Speaker 1: to see a little bit more often because it's pretty fun. So, yeah,
- 10:05Speaker 1: I can detonate my body without causing harm to myself.
- 10:08Speaker 1: But that's not all. I can detonate you because you
- 10:13Speaker 1: are inorganic. Oh that's right. So that's why he's able
- 10:17Speaker 1: to do toys, but he isn't able to do it
- 10:20Speaker 1: to the Santata or to other human beings. Okay, I
- 10:22Speaker 1: misspoke my thing at the beginning where I was like,
- 10:24Speaker 1: turning me into a bomb is rude. He can't do it.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I take it all back. Apologies, I misunderstood, But yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 1: the fact that he is blowing up this poor toy's
- 10:35Speaker 1: head is so Kiro says, don't you dare? I refuse
- 10:41Speaker 1: to die. I love just that line of I refuse
- 10:45Speaker 1: to die and someone is counting on me. You know what,
- 10:50Speaker 1: go I love it. He's in the middle of this
- 10:54Speaker 1: moment and it really looks like there's not going to
- 10:57Speaker 1: be any getting away, and all of a sudden, Loofy
- 11:02Speaker 1: stumps this dude in the gut and shoves him away
- 11:06Speaker 1: and catches Kios, and Lufy is a little bit confused
- 11:13Speaker 1: because he understood Kiroos to be with Frankie earlier, so
- 11:17Speaker 1: now doesn't understand why he's all by himself. They're met
- 11:21Speaker 1: by Violet, and Gladius is saying to Violet like he's
- 11:27Speaker 1: calling her a trader, and it's so funny because she's
- 11:30Speaker 1: just like a trader that would imply that I was
- 11:34Speaker 1: ever on your side. And I know that you cannot
- 11:37Speaker 1: possibly be that stupid that you ever really thought I
- 11:40Speaker 1: was on your side. I have been waiting for a
- 11:43Speaker 1: chance since this all happened to do this to you,
- 11:48Speaker 1: so please, and you know it's the sort of thing
- 11:52Speaker 1: that like it is. Of course she is right, but
- 11:58Speaker 1: these people just I don't seem to have a lot
- 12:02Speaker 1: of a relationship with reality or compassion or understanding. It
- 12:07Speaker 1: would require them to like get where she's coming from
- 12:12Speaker 1: in a way that I feel anybody who is capable
- 12:16Speaker 1: of the things that we have seen from them would
- 12:19Speaker 1: be fundamentally unable to perform. So he only sees this
- 12:26Speaker 1: as you were on our side and now you're betraying
- 12:29Speaker 1: us instead of I was threatened and browbeaten into being
- 12:36Speaker 1: on your side, and that was never really truly what
- 12:38Speaker 1: was happening. So they take off running, and it was
- 12:45Speaker 1: a moment where I was just sort of like, well, wait,
- 12:47Speaker 1: what's happening? Because he literally is only watching them run
- 12:53Speaker 1: off and just standing there. I am so curious about this,
- 12:58Speaker 1: you guys, why is it that they're able to go
- 13:02Speaker 1: on for as long as they are without him stopping
- 13:06Speaker 1: like chasing after them. When I tell you that, there
- 13:10Speaker 1: is a long moment of gladyas literally watching and not
- 13:15Speaker 1: moving a muscle, And eventually your treachery will not go unpunished,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and he begins to like expand his head to explode.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Can he not run and blow things up? Is is
- 13:30Speaker 1: it that his power requires like enough energy that he
- 13:35Speaker 1: isn't able to do that? Or is it simply that
- 13:38Speaker 1: he thought he would be able to attack them sufficiently
- 13:41Speaker 1: from a distance, so he didn't feel the need to
- 13:43Speaker 1: run after them. Like the explosion does knock viol it down,
- 13:48Speaker 1: but like Lufy is almost completely unaffected by it. And
- 13:54Speaker 1: it just seems to me that if you were going
- 13:57Speaker 1: to detonate yourself, you would get closer to your vctims,
- 14:00Speaker 1: because otherwise, what's the point you're wasting your time and
- 14:04Speaker 1: theirs and what she gets knocked down by, as she
- 14:08Speaker 1: describes to Loofy, is shrapnel. So it wasn't even like
- 14:12Speaker 1: the explosion itself. But usually that's the case with explosions,
- 14:16Speaker 1: I guess, is like debris and not the actual explosion.
- 14:22Speaker 1: So Lufy does this move that I really really liked
- 14:26Speaker 1: where he crashes out a window and as they're going
- 14:31Speaker 1: through the window, he lifts his foot with his rubber power,
- 14:35Speaker 1: like the top of his foot latches over the windowsill
- 14:40Speaker 1: and he like above him, like by two stories I think,
- 14:44Speaker 1: and he pulls himself up out of the way using
- 14:48Speaker 1: his leg, which I don't feel like we have seen
- 14:52Speaker 1: a lot of him using his power this way. It's
- 14:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean, like the using his leg
- 15:00Speaker 1: I mean because normally it really is his arms, and
- 15:04Speaker 1: it's kind of fun. I wish that we got this
- 15:06Speaker 1: a little bit more often. I think that it's the
- 15:09Speaker 1: sort of thing that could be you could get very
- 15:13Speaker 1: creative with it. And I don't know why it hasn't
- 15:17Speaker 1: occurred to me and when I say, we haven't seen
- 15:21Speaker 1: him use his legs. Obviously, there have been plenty of
- 15:23Speaker 1: times where his legs are part of what is expanding,
- 15:28Speaker 1: But I'm saying like his legs being the primary I
- 15:35Speaker 1: don't even know what I want to say, anchor maybe
- 15:38Speaker 1: to another object. It just feels like it actually kind
- 15:42Speaker 1: of makes more sense that he would do this versus
- 15:45Speaker 1: other like using his hands, because his hands are often
- 15:51Speaker 1: occupied with a fight, and using his foot to pull
- 15:54Speaker 1: himself around during a fight I think would be pretty effective.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I don't know, I liked it. And then we get
- 16:02Speaker 1: the moment where Kinemon is crossing you guys. He is
- 16:07Speaker 1: in disguise as Do Flamingo, and I genuinely had a
- 16:12Speaker 1: moment of like, when his foot comes out, he's wearing
- 16:15Speaker 1: those wooden like platform sandals I think, like Rice Patty sandals.
- 16:21Speaker 1: And when he when the camera like slides upward and
- 16:26Speaker 1: you see the first part of Do Flamingo's costume, I
- 16:31Speaker 1: definitely had a moment of like, I don't remember Do
- 16:34Speaker 1: Flamingo wearing that kind of shoe. Didn't he have like
- 16:36Speaker 1: curly toed shoes like an elf? And then as it
- 16:40Speaker 1: slides up and you see his his whole costume and
- 16:45Speaker 1: the fucking like the wig that he has just put
- 16:48Speaker 1: over his head. I don't know where this stuff, like
- 16:52Speaker 1: where the wig came from or what, but it is
- 16:56Speaker 1: Oh wait, that's part of his power. He could make
- 16:58Speaker 1: a wig, right, like he was able to make the
- 17:00Speaker 1: fake beards and whatnot. The fact that he is able
- 17:06Speaker 1: to make disguises, but that he can't really change anybody's body,
- 17:14Speaker 1: so he can give himself the hair ish but not
- 17:19Speaker 1: take away his beard or his other hair. He just
- 17:24Speaker 1: has something perched on top of his head. Genuinely, very funny.
- 17:29Speaker 1: I like this so much. It was such a great moment.
- 17:32Speaker 1: When this guy says young Master, she says, I'm sorry,
- 17:36Speaker 1: I am not aware of any such person. I am
- 17:39Speaker 1: don Quixote, and Wika is like the do Flamingo family
- 17:44Speaker 1: calls him young Master, and so then he just says
- 17:47Speaker 1: that would be me. And there is this long silence
- 17:53Speaker 1: where Gladius is just staring at him. And then there
- 17:57Speaker 1: are some intruders in the palace. You might want to
- 17:59Speaker 1: wait up, stay until we take care of them. I
- 18:02Speaker 1: shall do no such thing. You may do as you
- 18:05Speaker 1: wish with the intruders, but I'm heading underground. I have
- 18:08Speaker 1: business with Conduro, the samurai who disappeared from the junkyard.
- 18:14Speaker 1: That's the one. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go
- 18:18Speaker 1: meet that missing samurai. And he says, wait, did you
- 18:23Speaker 1: say he went missing? I also want to mention when
- 18:28Speaker 1: Keneman nods in response, his top knot is like coming
- 18:32Speaker 1: through the wig on the top of his head. So
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's just this weird turd like sort of black spot,
- 18:42Speaker 1: and it is very funny to me. So Loofy is
- 18:49Speaker 1: like looking through this window and going, do Flamingo is
- 18:53Speaker 1: right there? We have got to go and start this thing.
- 18:56Speaker 1: And Violet is like, no, the Tantata aren't finished and
- 19:01Speaker 1: we have to go check in with them. So she
- 19:04Speaker 1: uses her power and realizes that the Tantata have been
- 19:09Speaker 1: utterly defeated. It's really, honestly, so like having this sort
- 19:18Speaker 1: of power is so convenient, for sure, but I have
- 19:23Speaker 1: to imagine that there are times where you tune in
- 19:25Speaker 1: and the news is so grim and you don't just
- 19:28Speaker 1: hear about it, but you get to like see it firsthand.
- 19:33Speaker 1: This power might be kind of a bummer sometimes, you know.
- 19:38Speaker 1: And what do Flamingo is doing meanwhile, is questioning Trafalgar
- 19:45Speaker 1: Law about why is it they are trying to destroy
- 19:49Speaker 1: the smile factory? What's the game here? And how did
- 19:53Speaker 1: they sneak into the port, like just basically wanting all
- 19:58Speaker 1: of the information. Why did they decide to target Sugar?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Because if they're trying to destroy the smile factory, like
- 20:06Speaker 1: coming at her seems like a weird place to start.
- 20:11Speaker 1: I just can't really piece together what it is that
- 20:15Speaker 1: they're after. And I was sort of confused why he
- 20:19Speaker 1: thought going after Sugar was weird, because if you're trying
- 20:22Speaker 1: to fuck up a factory, going after the person who
- 20:27Speaker 1: produces your workforce, I would think would really be like
- 20:33Speaker 1: step one, you know what I mean. It just sort
- 20:37Speaker 1: of it was just puzzling to me because he wasn't
- 20:42Speaker 1: really drawing any of the conclusions that I was so
- 20:45Speaker 1: sure he would leap to right away, and I don't
- 20:48Speaker 1: get why. It seemed kind of self evident. And then
- 20:55Speaker 1: he reveals, well, that would mean they know about this
- 20:59Speaker 1: king dark secrets. So I guess he's just assuming that
- 21:04Speaker 1: they aren't aware Sugar is turning people into toys. But yeah,
- 21:13Speaker 1: I guess that's what it is. Because like his confusion
- 21:18Speaker 1: isn't real confusion. I suppose it's more that, like he's
- 21:24Speaker 1: unwilling to believe that they are working with all the
- 21:27Speaker 1: information that it turns out they have. And I love
- 21:35Speaker 1: Baby five leaning over and slapping Law and then crying
- 21:40Speaker 1: off to the side, and fucking Buffalo being like, why
- 21:44Speaker 1: did you hit him if you were going to immediately
- 21:46Speaker 1: start crying from it? And I'm assuming that she is
- 21:51Speaker 1: still caught up in the fact that she had feelings
- 21:53Speaker 1: for him and was working with him up until like
- 21:55Speaker 1: not that long ago, So it's partly also a means
- 22:01Speaker 1: for her to get out her aggression and anger at
- 22:04Speaker 1: the way things have turned out. But I have to
- 22:08Speaker 1: say I kind of like Baby five, Like the more
- 22:13Speaker 1: I see of her, her characters are so utterly strange
- 22:17Speaker 1: that she's really starting to like grow on me a lot.
- 22:23Speaker 1: So Las says like, I don't know what they're doing.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Our alliance ended, so whatever they're up to, they haven't
- 22:31Speaker 1: told me about it. It's none of my business and
- 22:34Speaker 1: I can't help you. And De Flamingo is like, you know,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I really don't know if you're lying. And I was
- 22:46Speaker 1: genuinely loving this because so often a bad guy is
- 22:51Speaker 1: treated by a writer as if he is like essentially omnipotent,
- 22:56Speaker 1: you know, just this sort of like I can tell
- 23:01Speaker 1: you're lying. Don't expect me to believe that, YadA YadA.
- 23:05Speaker 1: But not only is Do Flamingo saying that he can't tell,
- 23:10Speaker 1: he is also admitting he can't tell in front of
- 23:14Speaker 1: his people, and that you guys know that like Do
- 23:21Speaker 1: Flamingo has never really been somebody that I'm particularly invested in.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I wasn't super excited when he's revealed to be like
- 23:31Speaker 1: the brains behind the operation. But the more I see
- 23:37Speaker 1: of like the overall way he tends to work, the
- 23:41Speaker 1: more I start to be afraid of him, because he
- 23:44Speaker 1: really is in control of things in a way that
- 23:48Speaker 1: is bad news for everybody. I don't want this to
- 23:52Speaker 1: be true. But if he feels like he has enough
- 23:57Speaker 1: strength in his position that he can admit to being
- 24:02Speaker 1: ignorant and unable to see through a lie if it's
- 24:07Speaker 1: there or not, there is something about that intensity of
- 24:14Speaker 1: confidence that worries me more than anything. So he the
- 24:23Speaker 1: way that he is like approaching this too, with the
- 24:25Speaker 1: two of them just sort of staring each other down,
- 24:28Speaker 1: is genuinely funny. He's just trying to be like, ah, man,
- 24:32Speaker 1: I wish Violet was here because she could touch you
- 24:34Speaker 1: and tell me right away. You wouldn't happen to know
- 24:37Speaker 1: anything about this, would you, King Riku. And Riku's off
- 24:41Speaker 1: in the corner here, tied up and just chilling. It's
- 24:46Speaker 1: not he doesn't have a chair nothing, He's just on
- 24:49Speaker 1: the floor, and dofel Mingo says that Tantana, we're pretty
- 24:54Speaker 1: fond of you, as I recall, so are you certain
- 24:59Speaker 1: that you can't tell what is happening here? And give
- 25:04Speaker 1: me a little insight, And of course he doesn't respond,
- 25:08Speaker 1: So we have a little bit of a flashback here
- 25:11Speaker 1: with the toy soldier Kiros spotting him and being like,
- 25:15Speaker 1: oh my god, thank god he is still alive. Like this,
- 25:19Speaker 1: the whole way that this story unfolds about what happened
- 25:25Speaker 1: with Kiros was sort of strange. But uh, he says,
- 25:32Speaker 1: our window for victory is narrow, but as long as
- 25:34Speaker 1: he can restore their toys to their human form, I'll
- 25:37Speaker 1: have my chance to strike down do Flamingo once and
- 25:40Speaker 1: for all. My friends put their lives on the line
- 25:43Speaker 1: to protect me. I will not fail, no matter the cost.
- 25:47Speaker 1: I'm counting on you, Leo, and then we cut over
- 25:52Speaker 1: to the tantata all scattered on the floor, all of
- 25:56Speaker 1: their eyes whited out. They are just completely flattened here.
- 26:03Speaker 1: It's kind of funny in a way though, because Sugar
- 26:07Speaker 1: and what's his name that's in charge of her, they're
- 26:11Speaker 1: both literally just standing around staring at the absolute desolation.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And there's something about how emotionless they are, the way
- 26:23Speaker 1: that they're staring and having almost no reaction. I was like,
- 26:26Speaker 1: what is it that you guys are looking for or
- 26:29Speaker 1: doing here? It's just pure posturing. So Robin and Usop
- 26:36Speaker 1: are separated a little bit. They're kind of far away
- 26:39Speaker 1: from each other in this room, and they each are
- 26:44Speaker 1: holding a tantata just you know. I think that the
- 26:48Speaker 1: one she's holding is passed out, but Usops is awake,
- 26:53Speaker 1: and he looks over and sees that that like grape
- 26:57Speaker 1: that had the spice in it is still like it
- 27:02Speaker 1: hasn't popped or anything. It's still over there. So he
- 27:06Speaker 1: is determined to try and like accomplish this mission. And
- 27:11Speaker 1: I really wanted to know what it was he intended
- 27:14Speaker 1: to do. Are you going to carry it over to
- 27:17Speaker 1: Sugar now? If like, do you think she's going to
- 27:19Speaker 1: eat anything that you hand her. What is it that
- 27:22Speaker 1: you intended to do? I really respect the I'm going
- 27:28Speaker 1: to complete the mission in theory, but it just doesn't
- 27:33Speaker 1: have the kind of coherence anymore that you should keep
- 27:40Speaker 1: on the same path that you started with. You've got
- 27:43Speaker 1: to adjust things a little bit. So the fact that
- 27:47Speaker 1: they are still intending to try this and they come
- 27:51Speaker 1: up to her, they all have weapons on her, and
- 27:59Speaker 1: I love Sugar just being sort of nonplus and it's
- 28:01Speaker 1: just like, what is it that you guys even want
- 28:04Speaker 1: from me? Anyway? We're going to topple the corrupt, your
- 28:11Speaker 1: corrupt rule of this kingdom, and they stare at her
- 28:16Speaker 1: time to attack, so maybe they're just going to like
- 28:20Speaker 1: hold her mouth open and make her eat it. Like
- 28:24Speaker 1: maybe that's what they're going to try and do, But
- 28:28Speaker 1: you know, snot, nos guy is just like the fact
- 28:34Speaker 1: that they seem to have not factored him into their
- 28:37Speaker 1: attack at all. I think it's supposed to be more
- 28:41Speaker 1: that we're just going to do the thing that we
- 28:44Speaker 1: said we were going to do, despite the fact that
- 28:47Speaker 1: he is standing there and an obvious threat. But once
- 28:53Speaker 1: you see like that there, it just feels like hang
- 28:58Speaker 1: back and rethink the plan, you know, so they get
- 29:02Speaker 1: up by him right away, and it turns out that,
- 29:05Speaker 1: like also, I keep forgetting that like the glue that
- 29:09Speaker 1: he creates is flammable. So he manages to like cover
- 29:14Speaker 1: them all in this glue because they're in mid air
- 29:18Speaker 1: in the attack, and lights them up, gets them completely
- 29:23Speaker 1: like sidelined out of the way, and then Sugar makes
- 29:28Speaker 1: the bears get up and start to attack their own people,
- 29:32Speaker 1: which truly sucks because it's like everybody here is suffering
- 29:39Speaker 1: from this. The bears don't want to be doing this.
- 29:42Speaker 1: They know they have enough like of their minds left
- 29:45Speaker 1: that they remember that these are actually their friends, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: they can't stop themselves, and that Santada know that those
- 29:52Speaker 1: bears are their friends. And I don't know if they're
- 29:56Speaker 1: aware that they can't control their bodies, but they must
- 29:59Speaker 1: have pieced that together. So this whole thing is just
- 30:05Speaker 1: so grim. And they go down once again, and our
- 30:10Speaker 1: little guy is still standing there with his poison grape,
- 30:16Speaker 1: and this is when Robin pops up and uses her
- 30:20Speaker 1: power to get Sugar and her What is this guy's name,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I can't remember, It's Leo is the name of the
- 30:29Speaker 1: little tantata, but the glue guy I forget. So she yells,
- 30:34Speaker 1: you need to put the grape in her mouth now,
- 30:37Speaker 1: and he says, I won't let you down and leaps
- 30:40Speaker 1: toward her the grape aloft. He's heading right for her.
- 30:45Speaker 1: It's really looking like something's gonna happen. Robin's got a
- 30:49Speaker 1: big smile on her face. But she reaches down Sugar
- 30:58Speaker 1: and touches Robin's arm that sticking out of her own
- 31:02Speaker 1: body and turns Robin into a toy. I never saw
- 31:10Speaker 1: it coming, kids, never saw it coming, do you hear me?
- 31:15Speaker 1: I really thought that her arms were separate enough that
- 31:20Speaker 1: this wouldn't work. And honestly, I have no problem with it.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I'm not trying to say that this is like a
- 31:26Speaker 1: plot hole at all. I am simply saying that I
- 31:31Speaker 1: had a weird like confidence in her safety that when
- 31:36Speaker 1: I stop and really consider it, I should not have had.
- 31:40Speaker 1: But I did, and I was so startled. It took
- 31:46Speaker 1: me a moment to understand what happened here. There was
- 31:49Speaker 1: just a moment of like, hold on what also? I
- 31:53Speaker 1: think part of what's sort of it's not exactly that
- 31:56Speaker 1: it's confusing so much as It's a prizing choice to me.
- 32:01Speaker 1: But when people are turned into toys, they are not
- 32:05Speaker 1: necessarily like turned into something that all resembles what they
- 32:09Speaker 1: look like as a human being, which is totally fine,
- 32:14Speaker 1: but it I when she falls down and she's this
- 32:18Speaker 1: little blonde doll, I didn't connect that with Robin right away,
- 32:23Speaker 1: because you know, she has dark hair, and this is
- 32:26Speaker 1: just like, it doesn't bear any resemblance. But the other
- 32:29Speaker 1: toys didn't bear any resemblance either. It's just that I
- 32:32Speaker 1: keep expecting them to and being a little bit taken
- 32:36Speaker 1: aback and confused when they don't. So I definitely just
- 32:40Speaker 1: right here was It took me a couple seconds to
- 32:45Speaker 1: fully clock what was happening. And this is when Oosop says,
- 32:56Speaker 1: what just happened? I really thought Leo was going to
- 32:59Speaker 1: make but now I can't remember why. Oh my god,
- 33:04Speaker 1: the fact that Robin was turned was bad enough. I
- 33:10Speaker 1: had forgotten that even her crewmates were going to forget
- 33:13Speaker 1: who she was, and that is rude, like so deeply unfair.
- 33:21Speaker 1: And this is why the following episode is the one
- 33:25Speaker 1: where oos Up is pretty much just on the run.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And I've said it already, but I will say it again.
- 33:35Speaker 1: I really really detest this as a story beat for him. Treble,
- 33:42Speaker 1: thank you Florian. So Treble is standing over Leo, and
- 33:49Speaker 1: it's because Leo tried one more time to like pick
- 33:52Speaker 1: up the grape and come running at them, and Treble
- 33:56Speaker 1: just sends him flying with his power. And it's like, guys,
- 34:00Speaker 1: do you want us to kill you? Because if you
- 34:05Speaker 1: just stayed down, we wouldn't have to keep on doing this,
- 34:09Speaker 1: but you know we're gonna you just keep coming at me,
- 34:13Speaker 1: And the grape rolls up under Sugar's foot and I
- 34:22Speaker 1: really had a moment of like, Sugar gonna not know
- 34:26Speaker 1: that this is a weapon, Like she had to see
- 34:27Speaker 1: him carrying it, right. I'm assuming Sugar is the one
- 34:33Speaker 1: that remembers who Robin is, but does Treble remember who
- 34:39Speaker 1: everybody is? I'm assuming like her power works on absolutely
- 34:44Speaker 1: everybody except for herself, that she recalls each and every
- 34:49Speaker 1: toy and who they are, but nobody else does. But
- 34:54Speaker 1: I like, once I said that to myself, I kind
- 34:57Speaker 1: of stopped and was like, is that true? So, oh
- 35:03Speaker 1: my god, I forgot that. We go back to the
- 35:09Speaker 1: front of the Smile factory where Frankie is and the
- 35:13Speaker 1: little Twink is still yelling for them to keep firing
- 35:17Speaker 1: on him, and they're saying the Marines after like, Frankie
- 35:24Speaker 1: basically sits down against a wall and it kind of
- 35:27Speaker 1: looks like he's in a bad way, and so the
- 35:29Speaker 1: Marines rush him and are like, we're gonna have to
- 35:32Speaker 1: keep firing on you unless you fucking like surrender, and
- 35:37Speaker 1: Frankie for a moment is looking downward and really does
- 35:40Speaker 1: seem like maybe he's beaten, and then goes, are you kidding?
- 35:45Speaker 1: And he stands up and says, I'm gonna go nuts
- 35:49Speaker 1: and wreck this place all day long. Don't ask me why.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I don't know what it was about, adding don't ask
- 35:56Speaker 1: me why about it, but I really thought that was hilarious.
- 36:02Speaker 1: And he's like, I can't run away. I can't go
- 36:06Speaker 1: underground because I'm going to be drawing them all right
- 36:09Speaker 1: to the little people, So go ahead, give me everything
- 36:13Speaker 1: you got, and he uses one of her u one
- 36:17Speaker 1: of his hand cannons against them and is just thinking
- 36:21Speaker 1: to himself, go ahead, useland I've got your back. And
- 36:26Speaker 1: something about that, not just the tantata, but Usap's own
- 36:31Speaker 1: people are sacrificing on his behalf and then we cut
- 36:37Speaker 1: to him running away. It was just so deeply offensive
- 36:42Speaker 1: to me. I was so agitated over this, kids, I
- 36:46Speaker 1: really truly. It goes on for such a long time.
- 36:52Speaker 1: And it's not just that he's running away, it's the
- 36:55Speaker 1: fact that, like he is hearing trouble telling the tantata,
- 37:02Speaker 1: you guys got fucking played. That guy had no intention
- 37:06Speaker 1: of helping you. He's out of here. I can't believe
- 37:09Speaker 1: you fell for it. Y'all are so gullible, YadA YadA.
- 37:14Speaker 1: And like I was sort of expecting that when he
- 37:17Speaker 1: hears this that us up was going to be indignant
- 37:21Speaker 1: and just be like, I'll show him, and instead he says,
- 37:26Speaker 1: he's right, I don't need to die today. Like this
- 37:32Speaker 1: man is calling you a straight up coward, and you
- 37:36Speaker 1: are out here owning that in a way that I
- 37:40Speaker 1: feel is I mean, it's just meant to draw things out.
- 37:47Speaker 1: I know that, I understand, but it isn't elegantly done.
- 37:53Speaker 1: You guys understand what I have said before about that
- 37:59Speaker 1: we can we can do things to draw stuff out
- 38:02Speaker 1: that are that are actually interesting things, and the show
- 38:06Speaker 1: just seems to be pretty rarely choosing that, and they
- 38:10Speaker 1: add in stuff that it's like, you don't even know
- 38:14Speaker 1: the characters at all. If you're making them do this thing,
- 38:18Speaker 1: you you have no right to stretch this out. Is
- 38:23Speaker 1: It's just the way that I felt anyway, So this
- 38:27Speaker 1: moment of like, how just this sheer length of time
- 38:34Speaker 1: that it takes to convince us up to turn around
- 38:37Speaker 1: and go back and help his friends. By the time
- 38:41Speaker 1: he did, it was the sort of thing where I
- 38:45Speaker 1: felt like, I know, I'm supposed to be cheering and
- 38:50Speaker 1: relieved that he has turned around. But honestly, at this point,
- 38:57Speaker 1: if it weren't the use up that I have grown
- 38:59Speaker 1: to over the course of watching this show, I am
- 39:03Speaker 1: not sure that I would have been rooting for him anymore.
- 39:08Speaker 1: They are relying heavily with this on my previous affection
- 39:13Speaker 1: for him as a character. But if not for that,
- 39:18Speaker 1: I think I might have just straight up written him off,
- 39:22Speaker 1: because this the agreement with the bad guy about what
- 39:29Speaker 1: a coward you are, with no apparent shame over that
- 39:34Speaker 1: at all. Ew Like, really, how am I supposed to
- 39:42Speaker 1: look at this character the same way? Ever, again, the
- 39:47Speaker 1: only thing that's saving it is knowing this isn't like
- 39:50Speaker 1: this in the manga, And so this technically isn't really
- 39:54Speaker 1: canon about his character. But like you, guys, it's a
- 40:02Speaker 1: really hard thing to come back from when you do
- 40:07Speaker 1: something that makes me not like a character pulling back
- 40:12Speaker 1: and making me care again, it can be kind of
- 40:15Speaker 1: an uphill battle. And I have to assume that whoever
- 40:19Speaker 1: wrote this and decided that they were going to have
- 40:22Speaker 1: this be a whole thing didn't fully realize how despicable
- 40:27Speaker 1: it makes ousap look. I'm assuming that they just didn't
- 40:32Speaker 1: understand the level of the damage that they were doing,
- 40:36Speaker 1: because it's just so the intensity of the selfishness with
- 40:43Speaker 1: abandoning allies is already awful, but there is something even
- 40:50Speaker 1: worse about the fact that he is abandoning allies who
- 40:55Speaker 1: feel to me like children, And I know that they're not,
- 40:59Speaker 1: but they're little people who are very gullible and have
- 41:03Speaker 1: a sense of understanding that is limited, and so there
- 41:07Speaker 1: is something like really childlike about them, and abandoning them
- 41:15Speaker 1: especially feels so utterly despicable. It just the idea and
- 41:23Speaker 1: did you think oosup? And I know he's not thinking
- 41:26Speaker 1: right now, granted, but like, sir, did you really believe
- 41:31Speaker 1: that you could run off and go back to the
- 41:34Speaker 1: straw hats and climb on the sunny with them after
- 41:36Speaker 1: doing this, and that you would just get to like
- 41:39Speaker 1: sail into the sunset. Did you really believe that was
- 41:43Speaker 1: how this was gonna work. You had to know it
- 41:47Speaker 1: wasn't going to be like that. There's no fucking way.
- 41:51Speaker 1: I don't know that they would necessarily disown you exactly,
- 41:55Speaker 1: but nobody would ever look at you the same way again.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And I really wouldn't blame Lufy if he decided I'm sorry,
- 42:04Speaker 1: but if you're gonna just like punk out of a
- 42:07Speaker 1: mission and leave people to hold the bag, I don't
- 42:11Speaker 1: really want you on my team anymore. And this would
- 42:13Speaker 1: be the second time that USAP has just like turned
- 42:17Speaker 1: his back on people. He got given a bit of
- 42:20Speaker 1: a pass and allowed back onto the team after like
- 42:24Speaker 1: really just you know, doing some awful stuff, and I
- 42:32Speaker 1: don't I feel like in some ways we're taking a
- 42:36Speaker 1: step back on his character and him not having learned anything,
- 42:40Speaker 1: and I just don't believe it. So anyway, again, it's
- 42:46Speaker 1: not canon. I'm not going to dwell on it myself
- 42:50Speaker 1: because I don't consider this something that's even real. But
- 42:55Speaker 1: eventually he comes back and he tells them all what
- 43:01Speaker 1: his real name is, and you know, it's just I
- 43:09Speaker 1: wanted to cheer a little bit more, but because of
- 43:15Speaker 1: how long it takes, He's literally like standing on the
- 43:18Speaker 1: stairs listening to these guys being laughed at by Treble
- 43:24Speaker 1: and hearing them say we're never going to like give
- 43:29Speaker 1: up and us up is off thinking to himself, just
- 43:34Speaker 1: give up already. It's just ill. Oh my god. So
- 43:42Speaker 1: he turns around. I wanted to thank them for believing
- 43:46Speaker 1: in a guy like me. If I have to sacrifice
- 43:49Speaker 1: myself for them, that's fine. That's much cooler than running away,
- 43:55Speaker 1: which yes it is, but it took you about six
- 44:02Speaker 1: years to figure that out. So he uses one of
- 44:07Speaker 1: his uh, I can't remember the name of it. I'm
- 44:12Speaker 1: trying to get to the part where he fires on
- 44:14Speaker 1: Treble and what it is? What's the name of the
- 44:17Speaker 1: thing that he actually uses in the moment, and Treble
- 44:20Speaker 1: looks like he has been Let's a green star Platinus
- 44:27Speaker 1: is what he calls it, and it sur a can.
- 44:31Speaker 1: It separates into several different leaves and it seems to
- 44:37Speaker 1: slice Treble into pieces. But because I know that Treble
- 44:45Speaker 1: isn't operating like a normal person, this really was not
- 44:49Speaker 1: impressing me at all. So you know, the Sugar has
- 44:57Speaker 1: this uh this moment at the the start of the
- 45:00Speaker 1: next episode, us Up is standing there telling himself, I
- 45:05Speaker 1: did it. All that's left is Sugar. I hate to
- 45:09Speaker 1: beat up a little girl, but I don't think we're
- 45:11Speaker 1: gonna settle this over hopscotch. I have to get that
- 45:15Speaker 1: grape into her mouth somehow. And she looks down at
- 45:20Speaker 1: the robes of Trouble and she says, I can't believe
- 45:25Speaker 1: you lost to him. And for just a second, I
- 45:29Speaker 1: was like, am I wrong? Do his powers not work
- 45:32Speaker 1: the way that I thought they did? But no, he
- 45:35Speaker 1: immediately like brings himself back up, and it's like a
- 45:39Speaker 1: weird effect of him materializing sort of around the staff
- 45:44Speaker 1: that he always carries. But eventually he's just right there again.
- 45:49Speaker 1: And Oosup is he was not aware how this guy worked.
- 45:53Speaker 1: I'm not sure why not, because I feel like us
- 45:56Speaker 1: Up saw enough of Trouble to be able to tell
- 45:59Speaker 1: exactly how his power operated. But nevertheless, it takes him
- 46:06Speaker 1: by surprise. So the rest of this third episode is
- 46:14Speaker 1: mostly focused on Kiros and his history with King Riku.
- 46:22Speaker 1: So apparently he started off with a pretty bad reputation,
- 46:31Speaker 1: so he was spurred into action after Do Flamingo lied
- 46:35Speaker 1: about his abdication. Today, I decided to fight back like him.
- 46:42Speaker 1: King Ricu was fighting in the Colisseum, and we have
- 46:47Speaker 1: this flashback to Riku gray haired. Two people are dead,
- 46:54Speaker 1: The murderer is a teenage boy. We have him surrounded,
- 46:58Speaker 1: nowhere to go, and Ketos is fighting with the guards
- 47:04Speaker 1: with a bat that's got a bunch of nails in it. Uh,
- 47:07Speaker 1: very sort of Megan style, except I think with Megan
- 47:11Speaker 1: the nails were long enough that they came out the
- 47:14Speaker 1: other side of the bat with a pointy end. He
- 47:16Speaker 1: seems to just be using the part of the nail
- 47:18Speaker 1: that's let the flat end, which granted, will do plenty
- 47:22Speaker 1: of damage anyway. But I'm just saying, oh, no, Nigan
- 47:24Speaker 1: didn't have nails, did he. Meigan had a barbed wire
- 47:28Speaker 1: wrapped around his bat. That's what it is. So Keutos
- 47:32Speaker 1: is like standing on this uh what looks basically like
- 47:37Speaker 1: a trash heap, and he's yelling at the king if
- 47:43Speaker 1: you like, I don't give a shit who you are,
- 47:45Speaker 1: but if you're gonna come at me, you're going to
- 47:48Speaker 1: suffer for it, and he attacks the king with this bat,
- 47:52Speaker 1: which is truly bananas, and King Riku says, I heard
- 47:59Speaker 1: you were in a tear rrible fight, that you were
- 48:01Speaker 1: all on your own against dozens of angry thugs and
- 48:06Speaker 1: in the end, more than half of them were badly
- 48:09Speaker 1: injured and two were killed. And Kido says, that's true,
- 48:14Speaker 1: but they ganged up on my best friend and murdered him.
- 48:17Speaker 1: I was only taking revenge for his death. And Riku says,
- 48:22Speaker 1: what are you a beast? And he says, call me
- 48:26Speaker 1: whatever you want. You haven't lived my life. You don't
- 48:29Speaker 1: know a damned thing. My friend. He was like a
- 48:32Speaker 1: brother to me. He was the only person I ever trusted.
- 48:39Speaker 1: And it's a weird, like it's a weird moment of
- 48:45Speaker 1: starting things off with like he's gonna be super aggressive
- 48:51Speaker 1: in a way that makes it seem like the way
- 48:53Speaker 1: they're reacting to him is valid, and then we're gonna
- 48:58Speaker 1: sort of backpedal a little bit, making it like the
- 49:01Speaker 1: motivation for what he has done is understandable. And frankly,
- 49:09Speaker 1: I couldn't help but be kind of frustrated by this,
- 49:12Speaker 1: because you just taking revenge on the people who killed
- 49:16Speaker 1: your friend. Is one thing, but they just brought the
- 49:20Speaker 1: king into your presence and you attacked the man with
- 49:23Speaker 1: a baseball bat while surrounded by guards. This does not
- 49:28Speaker 1: speak of a person who is just taking revenge. This
- 49:31Speaker 1: speaks of a person who is completely out of control
- 49:35Speaker 1: of himself and not somebody that it is safe for
- 49:38Speaker 1: others to be around. So like, as the episode continues,
- 49:42Speaker 1: and it's supposed to be all like these sad moments
- 49:46Speaker 1: of folks not trusting him and not understanding and that
- 49:50Speaker 1: nobody really knows the full story about his friend being
- 49:54Speaker 1: killed first, and that he had good reasons for what
- 49:57Speaker 1: he did, it just kept being like for me, kind
- 50:03Speaker 1: of they were valid in a way that didn't the
- 50:10Speaker 1: sort of pitiful quality of his story wasn't really hitting
- 50:15Speaker 1: for me. I was supposed to feel about him the
- 50:20Speaker 1: way that I feel about Rebecca, where everybody is screaming
- 50:25Speaker 1: hoping that she dies and you know, just punishing her
- 50:28Speaker 1: for her relationship to the King and all of that.
- 50:31Speaker 1: It was very clear like I was meant to have
- 50:34Speaker 1: that kind of reaction to how people are talking to him,
- 50:39Speaker 1: But I couldn't get past the fact that he was
- 50:44Speaker 1: handling people coming at him the way that he did,
- 50:48Speaker 1: which felt very much like a child having a tantrum,
- 50:51Speaker 1: and it did not speak well for him at all.
- 50:55Speaker 1: So eventually the king comes toward him, like Riku is
- 51:03Speaker 1: just remaining placid and not stepping down. I have to
- 51:09Speaker 1: mention too that he looks very dragonball Z when he
- 51:12Speaker 1: is young, with no beard and this hair. But he says,
- 51:19Speaker 1: come with me, please, and they wind up in the
- 51:25Speaker 1: Colosseum and the crowd reacts similarly to him. The fifteen
- 51:31Speaker 1: year old murderer is facing off with one of our
- 51:33Speaker 1: seasoned veterans. The colosseum is a sacred place. A killer
- 51:39Speaker 1: like you doesn't belong here. It was sort of an
- 51:45Speaker 1: interesting moment to realize that, like before everything went down,
- 51:51Speaker 1: the Colosseum was still a thing. It was just, you know, like,
- 51:56Speaker 1: we find out that despite the colosseum and appearances, their
- 52:03Speaker 1: weapons are blunted, so this is not meant to be
- 52:06Speaker 1: a fight to the death. But nevertheless it does still
- 52:11Speaker 1: feel exploitative, like I don't get the vibe that he
- 52:13Speaker 1: really had that much of a choice about coming here.
- 52:17Speaker 1: And so he goes up against this dude who takes
- 52:21Speaker 1: a swing and Kiros immediately leaps out of the way
- 52:26Speaker 1: and smashes this guy so hard that he drops like
- 52:30Speaker 1: a fucking stone, and then Kiros is coming at him,
- 52:35Speaker 1: go on and fight me again, and just starts like
- 52:38Speaker 1: completely losing his shit yet again, and one of the
- 52:42Speaker 1: captains is like, that guy would definitely be dead if
- 52:45Speaker 1: that blunt, if that blade wasn't blunted, and Riku says,
- 52:53Speaker 1: I'd call it savagery, but here it's skill. It is savagery.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Though this dude is completely out of his head. He's
- 53:05Speaker 1: like screaming like, come at me again, after he has
- 53:08Speaker 1: like laid this man out with likely what is a
- 53:12Speaker 1: permanent brain injury, you know what I'm saying. It just
- 53:16Speaker 1: it kept feeling like, oh, he's seeing below the surface,
- 53:20Speaker 1: and Riu Ricu can tell that he's promising in a
- 53:25Speaker 1: way that everybody else like overlooked his talent, and I
- 53:29Speaker 1: was just like, no, this dude has like genuine anger issues.
- 53:32Speaker 1: This guy needs therapy. He does not need to be fighting.
- 53:35Speaker 1: He needs to go and talk to somebody and get
- 53:37Speaker 1: this shit out of his system because it's under he's
- 53:40Speaker 1: like genuinely dangerous. So eventually Kidos goes on a hunger
- 53:47Speaker 1: strike and he's killed everybody that he's been put up against,
- 53:52Speaker 1: or not killed them, he's beaten them. And when they
- 53:56Speaker 1: finally get Riku don, he's like, just hang me or
- 53:59Speaker 1: shoot me, or whatever the fuck it is that you
- 54:01Speaker 1: were going to do. And the King asks, do you
- 54:05Speaker 1: really want to die? Or is this just regret? And
- 54:10Speaker 1: he's like, regret, man, I really thought for a second
- 54:15Speaker 1: that you understood me, but I guess not. And the
- 54:20Speaker 1: King says that the fights in the Colosseum are sacred.
- 54:25Speaker 1: These are not like just for carnage. They're meant to
- 54:29Speaker 1: hone people's abilities. And I think you would make a
- 54:33Speaker 1: really great gladiator. King Riku is willing to release you
- 54:38Speaker 1: on parole if you're willing to do one hundred matches.
- 54:43Speaker 1: And I do like this of the fact that, like,
- 54:49Speaker 1: you fight enough and you can learn your freedom, earn
- 54:53Speaker 1: your freedom after enough victories. But it's just been scaled
- 54:58Speaker 1: so much further down than in the present. So it's
- 55:03Speaker 1: like one could argue that this tradition is continued, but
- 55:07Speaker 1: we know it's really not. It's been made totally impossible
- 55:11Speaker 1: to reach, and so it just is a kind of
- 55:16Speaker 1: a fun like nod to the fact that at one
- 55:20Speaker 1: point there was genuine hope and now it's just the
- 55:22Speaker 1: illusion of hope. So yeah, he's told that that's how
- 55:29Speaker 1: he earns his freedom. And when we jumped to four
- 55:33Speaker 1: months later and him fighting, everybody is doing the same
- 55:37Speaker 1: thing that they did with Rebecca, like yelling about how
- 55:40Speaker 1: much they hate Kiros and you know, YadA YadA, and
- 55:46Speaker 1: he's taking absolutely everybody down. And it's so funny because
- 55:51Speaker 1: it just seems like they should all know that he
- 55:57Speaker 1: is should they should be prepared for the fact that
- 56:03Speaker 1: the fight is going to be over in like two seconds,
- 56:06Speaker 1: but all of them seem truly nonplussed by it, and
- 56:10Speaker 1: like there's always this moment of shocked silence, and I
- 56:16Speaker 1: was like, guys, why don't you already know that this
- 56:20Speaker 1: is how this man does, like you know whatever. So
- 56:25Speaker 1: eventually he manages to do three hundred victories and he
- 56:36Speaker 1: has earned like the crowd's favorite. Now he has managed
- 56:40Speaker 1: to turn their opinion of him around, and it's his
- 56:47Speaker 1: one thousandth victory and he has decided to keep going.
- 56:52Speaker 1: And we see that his body has grown more muscular
- 56:58Speaker 1: and that he has started to internalize the alleged objective
- 57:05Speaker 1: of this which is to like make this into a
- 57:09Speaker 1: sacred practice that hones his skill, and at this point
- 57:16Speaker 1: we have him being made into the private security of
- 57:23Speaker 1: this the royal family. But Princess Scarlet when she meets him,
- 57:32Speaker 1: is very very unimpressed with him and feels like he
- 57:37Speaker 1: is dangerous, he should not be near them, their family,
- 57:41Speaker 1: and I love that, like Violet is yelling at her
- 57:45Speaker 1: to stop bringing up his old trauma. There was something
- 57:48Speaker 1: about a little kid saying something in such adult language
- 57:52Speaker 1: that was really very funny. And of course eventually there's
- 57:59Speaker 1: like this moment where people attack and he defends her,
- 58:04Speaker 1: and she is so overwhelmed with gratitude that despite his
- 58:09Speaker 1: terrible past, he has won her over and now she
- 58:13Speaker 1: understands what an incredible person he is despite all of
- 58:18Speaker 1: the rumors about him and that she misunderstood, YadA YadA,
- 58:22Speaker 1: she falls in love with him, and eventually, when her
- 58:27Speaker 1: father is like, I'm sorry, girl, but you can't marry
- 58:31Speaker 1: him with his background. Nobody is going to approve of this.
- 58:35Speaker 1: This would be a big problem, she is basically like,
- 58:38Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck what anybody says. I would
- 58:42Speaker 1: rather die than not marry him. Do you get me?
- 58:46Speaker 1: And then we cut to a fake funeral. This cracked
- 58:51Speaker 1: me up. I didn't see that coming at all. She
- 58:53Speaker 1: they were like, all right, bet, and they kill her,
- 58:56Speaker 1: so to speak. So that is why she was living
- 59:00Speaker 1: out in the country in very like modest circumstances, because
- 59:08Speaker 1: she gave up being a royal, like a member of
- 59:11Speaker 1: the royal family, so that she could be with him.
- 59:17Speaker 1: And then we see the day when the attack comes.
- 59:23Speaker 1: We just see like them looking at the flames together,
- 59:27Speaker 1: but it's like we don't actually see the moment when
- 59:31Speaker 1: he gets turned into a toy, and the relationship that
- 59:36Speaker 1: Ketos has with his daughter. It's just very, very cute.
- 59:40Speaker 1: So you know, I have grown to like him definitely,
- 59:45Speaker 1: but I just felt like I was supposed to sympathize
- 59:49Speaker 1: with him in a way that I kind of didn't
- 59:51Speaker 1: most of the time. But yeah, I'm interested to see
- 59:55Speaker 1: where we go from here and looking forward to, like
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: Rebecca remembering who the fuck he is. So if we
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: could just get Sugar to eat that fucking grape, that
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: would be great. All right, everybody, I've got to wrap
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: this one up, But thank you all so much for
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: hanging out. Thank you to Florian for commissioning this one
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: appreciates you all, and until next time to the Loo motherfuckers.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: That was an unspoiled Network podcast.
