- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Have you ever missed out on a golden opportunity
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: because you did not slow down enough to notice it?
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: Well, co-author John Cluter and I have,
- 0:11SPEAKER_01: and the truth is, sometimes the person we overlook has exactly what we need.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: And if we just take the time to value them.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Well, today, our focus is Proverbs 20, 29.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie,
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: where a proverb a day keeps stinking thinking at bay.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Well, hi,
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: and my desire is to help you connect biblical wisdom
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: to everyday marketplace decisions,
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: allowing you to build relationships that outlast any transaction.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: And we do our best to bring timeless biblical wisdom and truth into the marketplace
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: where influence is real,
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: choices are constant, and relationships matter far more than results.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: So pour yourself a cup of coffee, tea, latte, soda, or water, and let's get started.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Today I'm sharing from chapter 20 of Marketplace Proverbs,
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: volume 1,
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: A Sales Navigator's Compass to Customer Success Mastery,
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: written by yours truly and John Cluter.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: So, Proverbs 20, verse 29 from the NIV, The glory of young men is their strength.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: Gray hair is the splendor of the old.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Verse 29 says, From Proverbs 20, from the New International Version.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: That's a beautiful way of saying each season of life has its own gift.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Youth brings energy and strength.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Age brings wisdom and perspective.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: And those gifts are best when they're shared, not guarded.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: My friend and co-author John Cluter told me a story that perfectly captures this verse.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: And I share it with you here because it's one of those moments that hits you in
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: the gut when you realize what was lost and what could have been gained.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: John said he was in an all-day training meeting,
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: 8.30 in the morning till 5, and then dinner afterward.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: Just six people in the room.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: He was the youngest.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: A couple of others were closer to the end of their careers,
- 2:43SPEAKER_01: including the oldest person in the room, someone who had hearing difficulties.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: I can relate.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Now, John has a quick wit, and he admits a quick temper at times.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: And as the day went on,
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: the man's hearing issue caused a few delays and interruptions,
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: and John became impatient.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Here's the part that hit John later.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: This gentleman had been in the industry longer than John had been alive.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Decades of experience, years of hard-earned wisdom.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: But instead of seeing him as a resource, John saw him as a roadblock.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And what if John had slowed down and offered to help this gentleman keep up with the discussion?
- 3:36SPEAKER_01: And in return,
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: He might have learned how to apply the day's training for someone
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: who had lived it out in real life.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Instead, they both missed the exchange.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: His strength,
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: being able to hear the conversation clearly,
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: never kept connected with the older man's splendor, years of Marketplace insight.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: And when that connection didn't happen, everybody loses.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: One day, If we're blessed, we'll be the older one in the room.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: I'm already there, but I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: I'll be 78, and I'm looking forward to doing this until I'm 100.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: And when that happens,
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: we'll want someone to value what we bring,
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: even if it takes a little longer to bring it.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Proverbs 20, 29 is a reminder to look for the trade.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: If you're young, trade your energy for someone's wisdom.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: If you're older, trade your experience for someone's fresh perspective.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: That's how both sides grow stronger.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Today's customer success code,
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: great partnerships trade strength for wisdom and leave both sides richer.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: Today's action points spot the strengths gap.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: Next time you feel frustrated with someone,
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: stop and ask, what do they know or bring that I don't?
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: Point number two, or action point number two, offer your strength first.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Give what you have,
- 5:14SPEAKER_01: whether that's clarity,
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: speed, or technical skill before you expect anything in return.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: Action point number three, ask for their splendor.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Invite them to share lessons from their experience.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: You might hear something you didn't even know you needed.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: And action point four, Bridge the gap together.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: Find a simple way to work together that uses both your strengths.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: In action point number five, write it down.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: Record at least one piece of wisdom you've gained from them and make it part of your playbook.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: If we commit to trading strength and splendor in every interaction,
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: we'll never walk away empty-handed.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: We'll build deeper relationships,
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: stronger teams, and a marketplace that honors both the young and the seasons.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Think on that.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: Well,
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: thank you for joining me for today's episode of Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: with Ernie.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: As I share insights from Proverbs to inspire better leadership in the marketplace,
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: I want to be clear.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: My goal is to offer practical applications from my own experience, not to teach doctrine.
- 6:33SPEAKER_01: I'm committed to staying true to God's Word and avoiding any false teaching,
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: focusing only on how these verses guide us in serving with integrity and wisdom.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: If you hear me spreading false doctrine, please call me out.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I truly do appreciate your comments.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: I speak numbers 624 through 26 over you.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: May the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
- 7:10SPEAKER_01: If this message encouraged you, please share it.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: And remember, success is temporal.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Adding significance to others is infinite.
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
