- 0:00The power of concentration is well known.
- 0:05It is a power that we utilize daily to accomplish the various
- 0:09test set before us or to achieve some goal that we have set for
- 0:14ourselves in yoga also the power of concentration is required.
- 0:20The focus and intention behind the concentration, is the
- 0:24primary difference between ordinary concentration and that
- 0:29utilized by practitioners of yoga?
- 0:32In his lectures on Raja yoga, Swami Vivekananda.
- 0:37Devote considerable efforts to explain concentration describing
- 0:42the processes outlined by patanjali and how it can be
- 0:47intensified and focused and the kind of results.
- 0:50One can obtain a systematic process of purification
- 0:56quieting, the mind control of the posture and the breadth and
- 1:01eventually, Directing the concentration upon specific
- 1:05subjects or objects is outlined. As the concentration
- 1:10intensifies, it becomes more and more directed and extraneous
- 1:15thoughts feelings, and perceptions drop-off.
- 1:21The result of this concentration is to see the manifestation of
- 1:25certain cities or powers that arise when concentration is
- 1:30focused in particular areas or attainment of the state of
- 1:36samadhi. SRI aurobindo provides
- 1:39additional insight to the process of concentration.
- 1:44SRI aurobindo writes, quote ordinarily, the Consciousness is
- 1:49spread out everywhere, dispersed running in this, or that
- 1:53direction after this subject and that object in multitude.
- 1:58When anything has to be done of a sustained nature.
- 2:02The first thing one does is to draw back all this dispersed
- 2:06Consciousness and concentrate. It is then if one looks closely
- 2:12bound to be concentrated in one place and on one occupation
- 2:17subject or object, as when you are composing, a poem, or a
- 2:22botanist is studying a flower. The place is usually somewhere
- 2:27in the brain, if it is the thought in the heart, if it is
- 2:31the feeling in which one is concentrated, the yoga
- 2:35concentration is simply an extension and intensification of
- 2:39the same. I'm thing.
- 2:40It may be on an object as when one does tratak on a shining
- 2:45point, then one has to concentrate.
- 2:48So that one sees only that point and has no other thought than
- 2:52that, it may be on an idea or word, or a name, the idea of the
- 2:58Divine, the word ohm the name, Krishna, or a combination of
- 3:04idea, and word, or idea and name.
- 3:08But further in yoga, one also concentrates in a particular
- 3:12place, there is the famous rule of concentrating between the
- 3:17eyebrows. The center of the inner mind of
- 3:22a cult vision of the will, is there what you do is to think
- 3:27firmly from there or whatever you make the object of your
- 3:30concentration, or else try to see the image of it from there.
- 3:36If you succeed in this then after it time you feel that your
- 3:40whole Consciousness is centered there in that place, of course,
- 3:44for the time being After doing it for some time and often it
- 3:50becomes easy and normal. It may be asked What Becomes of
- 3:55the rest of the Consciousness. When there is this local
- 3:58concentration, Well, at either fall silent as in any
- 4:03concentration or if it does not, then thoughts are other things.
- 4:07May move about as if outside but the concentrated part does not
- 4:12attend to them or notice. That is when the concentration
- 4:17is reasonably successful, When has not to fatigue oneself at
- 4:22first by long concentration. If one is not accustomed for
- 4:26then, in a jaded mind, it loses, its power and value one can
- 4:31relax and meditate. Instead of concentrating, it is
- 4:35only as the concentration becomes normal, that one can go
- 4:39on for a longer and longer time. And quote, reference SRI
