- 1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:02,540 It's still real to me, damn it! 2 00:00:02,540 --> 00:00:12,540 [Music] 3 00:00:12,540 --> 00:00:34,540 [Music] 4 00:00:34,540 --> 00:01:00,540 [Music] 5 00:01:00,540 --> 00:01:04,540 [Music] 6 00:01:04,540 --> 00:01:14,540 Welcome everybody! Welcome to this week's edition of the Sto Real Da Show episode number 776 for December 26, 2024. 7 00:01:14,540 --> 00:01:22,540 Welcome to your 2024 SRT award show special edition of SRTU. 8 00:01:22,540 --> 00:01:34,540 I am one half the show I am Jeff Packard joined every single week for my co-host, one of my Dr. Terry Franklin, Dr. Trey. Welcome to the 2024 award show my friend. 9 00:01:34,540 --> 00:01:44,540 It was nice of you to actually get the red carpet out for this thing. I mean we had original music from Ariana Grande if that's a real person's name. 10 00:01:44,540 --> 00:01:51,540 I don't know if that is or not, but I mean I'm just excited to be here. Even though I've never been nominated for an award. 11 00:01:51,540 --> 00:01:57,540 I'm just happy to be part of the show. Is it strange that you and I have never won an award during our award show? 12 00:01:57,540 --> 00:02:05,540 I mean technically I guess that would be like the independent Booker type thing where they keep putting the title belts on themselves. 13 00:02:05,540 --> 00:02:15,540 If we were to actually win wrestling podcast of the year on our own show, I mean that would be kind of a self-indulgence so to speak. 14 00:02:15,540 --> 00:02:23,540 But look, every year I always nominate you as my favorite co-host. So I mean in my eyes you're a winner. 15 00:02:23,540 --> 00:02:35,540 And right back at you my friend. So maybe next year we think about doing our own award show category where it's like favorite co-host of SRTU or like favorite wrestling podcast named SRTU. 16 00:02:35,540 --> 00:02:36,540 Does that make sense? 17 00:02:36,540 --> 00:02:47,540 I think that would be good. Ironically enough I do think there actually is a show called Still Real To It was Podcast but I listened to it once and they were awful and I think they stopped doing it. 18 00:02:47,540 --> 00:02:58,540 Yeah, I mean I think we've had this title now for 14 years running on 15 and with that said this is the season finale for year number 14 of SRTU. 19 00:02:58,540 --> 00:03:07,540 Starting on next week's edition of the show we will be previewing professional wrestling for 2025 for our first episode of 2025. 20 00:03:07,540 --> 00:03:16,540 This is our last episode of the year Dr. Tray and it's cliche to say but the older we get the quicker these years go by. 21 00:03:16,540 --> 00:03:24,540 I can't believe we're sitting here today a day after Christmas and recording and airing our 2024 SRT award show special. 22 00:03:24,540 --> 00:03:38,540 I mean just to kind of put in perspective of how fast time flies by as I'm sitting here Sammy Franklin is next to me holding up a bag that contains his first baby tooth he lost today. 23 00:03:38,540 --> 00:03:52,540 So he was trying to show it to you through the phone but he's super proud he lost his first tooth and I'm like mad he seems like yesterday I was sitting here announcing his birth and you know five and a half years have gone by almost six. 24 00:03:52,540 --> 00:04:01,540 And yet here we are doing another award show kind of covering maybe what arguably is the best year special wrestling is at. 25 00:04:01,540 --> 00:04:07,540 Yeah so let's get into it let's go over the categories here that you'll be hearing here on this week's edition of SRTU. 26 00:04:07,540 --> 00:04:20,540 We will have new story of the year breakouts are the year moment of the year event of the year few to the year match of the year tag team of the year female and male wrestler of the year wrestling promotion of the year. 27 00:04:20,540 --> 00:04:34,540 And the top award that we hand out each and every year the SRTU wrestler of the year this is our 14th annual edition of the SRTU award show and I'm looking forward to it. 28 00:04:34,540 --> 00:04:47,540 I think it's this is the perfect way to end this this past year very good year for professional wrestling and doctor trade there is no better way to kick it off than our news story of the year. 29 00:04:47,540 --> 00:04:59,540 It is formally known as for those long time listeners are in ringing out of the ring story of the year last year the winners were as for me see a punk gets fired by a w in September returns to w in November. 30 00:04:59,540 --> 00:05:11,540 Doctor trade w e b in soul to endeavor informs t.k.o group holdings along with the UFC in 2022 we both had vets of man retires and triple h takes over w creative and content. 31 00:05:11,540 --> 00:05:26,540 And in 2021 we both had w e surprising talent releases those names of Braun Strowman break white Keith Lee carrying cross and more some of those folks made it back to w in and some are still in a w so dr. 32 00:05:26,540 --> 00:05:44,540 Dr. Shrey would you like to kick it off or do you want me to kick off news story of the year. I'll start off this year maybe not as I mean there were some really goods news stories but I think last year's when we kind of went over there was like five or six things that probably could have won in any other year. 33 00:05:44,540 --> 00:06:13,540 I had mine down to like three options I had the in ring retirement of Brian Danielson the lawsuit against this man was kind of forced him back out of w e but my winner for me this year was the crazy w w Netflix deal I think for me it's no worthy in the amount of money w got to move money night raw from USA to Netflix to have maybe the number one wrestling. 34 00:06:13,540 --> 00:06:37,540 Show in the world go to a streaming platform is shocking it also kind of help or kind of made them shuffle the deck on their other shows but at the end of the day just you know there are people who listen to this show Jeff that have never watched Monday night raw on anything but the USA network and even for that brief run when they were on 35 00:06:37,540 --> 00:06:59,540 tnn which they became spite TV that was just a short like four or five year one or on for the for the majority of our lives for over 30 some odd years it's been on USA and for them to make the jump and move money night raw to Netflix and maybe kind of an unde it's you a wild 36 00:06:59,540 --> 00:07:14,540 west there's no ratings there's no guidelines they can kind of do whatever they want to a degree it just opens up a whole can of possibilities for them so my new story the year was w moving money night raw to Netflix. 37 00:07:14,540 --> 00:07:27,540 Yeah I mean I was a huge story this year the amount of money that netflix is netflix is plant pain w e to move raw and similar to the WWE network about 10 years ago this could be an absolute game changer doctor try. 38 00:07:27,540 --> 00:07:46,540 I'm really looking forward to the announced a couple weeks ago that when WWE is overseas heading into those first those months heading into WrestleMania season when they're over in Europe those shows are going to air live as they would in Europe so here in the United States it'll air like it one 39 00:07:46,540 --> 00:08:04,540 p.m. 2323 p.m. East Coast time and I think that's pretty cool you don't have to wait until eight o'clock a night to watch Monday night raw it's a complete game changer it's something we've never seen before in WWE and it shows that netflix is is trying to get a lot more in the live content game. 40 00:08:04,540 --> 00:08:21,540 Yeah they didn't really this year with the Jake Paul Mike Tyson fight obviously concerns there with whether or not it will crash this is going to be a very very big deal this first episode on January 6th a lot of marquee matchups and it's exciting it's a very exciting time so 41 00:08:21,540 --> 00:08:34,540 I think that's a great great call by you doctor try so doctoray picking for his new story of the year the WWE's deal to move raw to Netflix and that takes me to my news story of the year similar to Dr. 42 00:08:34,540 --> 00:08:49,540 Trey I had a lot of choices out there certainly the Netflix move this I almost created my own new story with the decline of all lead wrestling the viewership the attendance and all that stuff that you're seeing right now but when I think about 43 00:08:49,540 --> 00:09:10,540 new stories of the year that kind of dominated the headlines for a period of time and still sit here with us today I go to vitswick man sexual assault and trafficking allegations it's potentially allegedly a very heinous crime where it will bring down the star of vitswick man and change his story forever 44 00:09:10,540 --> 00:09:20,540 it led to him being completely exiled from tco from wwe and now he is doing whatever he is potentially doing next it's 45 00:09:20,540 --> 00:09:30,540 it you know made national headlines the the I read the entire court reporting and it's like very heinous and disgusting the stuff that was discussed in there and if it's all 46 00:09:30,540 --> 00:09:43,540 deemed to be true vitswick man as a file human being that should never be talked about in good light ever again and you know we always refer to vits as the teflon dawn and for the time being we don't know how this all plays out in 47 00:09:43,540 --> 00:09:58,540 court proceedings and not to get political but there are people out there that believe with the new presidency starting in January that vitswick man will be on that list of people to be pardoned and that would not shock me at all since he is buddy buddy with the new soon to be new 48 00:09:58,540 --> 00:10:15,540 president of the United States this is this is a major story you know it's it can change the entire direction of the story that is vitswick man forever and may already have done that you know even if he gets by this and then be to the 49 00:10:15,540 --> 00:10:33,540 again this may have taken down the star and again going back to the teflon dawn stuff doctor trade this was a guy that felt like was invincible literally it's in his name and it always felt like he was always going to come out no matter what was thrown at him and he beat the federal government once he defeated W. 50 00:10:33,540 --> 00:10:52,540 W and here he is again with another you know potentially heinous allegations thrown his way so my new story of the year doctor trade was vitswick man sexual assault and trafficking allegations like I said I mean it was right there the top of my list it's it was a huge new story that I mean the documentary on Netflix kind of covered a lot of it too 51 00:10:52,540 --> 00:11:10,540 and it started out that dot hole documents are going out one going one way and then it swerved a whole different direction because of this new story I mean I mean to the point where like you know Linda McMahon had a basic come out and say that her events are separated because of her appointment to Trump's cabinet 52 00:11:10,540 --> 00:11:34,540 and try to distance herself from Vince just so that she can be confirmed in January into that into that new cabinet position I mean it's it's it's shocking for all the wrong reasons it's it like you said heinous it's disgusting the allegations are just I mean it's stuff that you you see in horror movies in a lot of ways in those 53 00:11:34,540 --> 00:11:53,540 thriller type movies so it's it's very very sad it's very very just you know shattering in a lot of ways because even though you know there are always rumors of stories events just wasn't a great person this kind of just brought it all into a new light and you know I remember watching a 54 00:11:53,540 --> 00:12:03,540 an interview with Eric young with Chris Van Vla where Eric young basically was talking about his time when he returned to the company it was never on TV and the reason he left again 55 00:12:03,540 --> 00:12:16,540 was because he couldn't work for somebody like Vince and good consciousness and he left a lot of money on the table and a lot of security was just because of his morals and when when people are coming out and saying 56 00:12:16,540 --> 00:12:27,540 stuff like that it's hard to look away so yeah just absolute you know huge new story and you know completely pushed Vince out of the W W picture probably once 57 00:12:27,540 --> 00:12:41,540 in for good all right let's get to our next category here the breakout star of the year this was a category we discussed often here on this yearly the entire every single nearly 58 00:12:41,540 --> 00:12:49,540 week edition of SRTU it always felt like once a month we were talking about hey could this star be a breakout star is this person technically a break out 59 00:12:49,540 --> 00:13:02,540 out there for more world champion over in Japan and is this person on the rise as a breakout star in 2024 so I'm really really looking forward to seeing what the anticipation is from this one previous winners in 60 00:13:02,540 --> 00:13:12,540 2023 doctor trained I both had Dominic Mysterio in 2022 we both had Sammy Zane in 2021 I had Darby Allen doctor straight head Matt Rittle and here we are with a 61 00:13:12,540 --> 00:13:22,540 2024 edition of who will be our breakout star of the year and I thought long and hard about this one it's like well could it be will 62 00:13:22,540 --> 00:13:32,540 Osprey will Osprey for me was the front one or for a grand period of time in this category for me because he was just kind of lighting the 63 00:13:32,540 --> 00:13:42,540 world on fire on for the United States fan base people may have never seen it before and was really exciting to watch his matches and then in the last couple months was so 64 00:13:42,540 --> 00:13:50,540 little so kind of like coming up and and being that breakout star in role less entertainment I mean he defeated Roman Reigns he's been in world 65 00:13:50,540 --> 00:13:58,540 championship matches he went from not talking to talking cutting a pretty good promo and showcasing his personality could it be 66 00:13:58,540 --> 00:14:05,540 source trickling who was an AW world champion a guy that was also in the discussion for wrestler of the year I mean that was a 67 00:14:05,540 --> 00:14:12,540 discussion that was often debated here on the show is could the breakouts are the year also be the wrestler of the year and when it came 68 00:14:12,540 --> 00:14:21,540 down to who I was going to give this award out to I felt like the entire book of work from January to now was solid there was no 69 00:14:21,540 --> 00:14:31,540 dips there was just straight momentum and it was an upward trajectory doctor tray and this may surprise some but my 2024 breakouts are the year is 70 00:14:31,540 --> 00:14:41,540 so let's go from Smackdown I felt like this was will Ospreys to lose and I think all lead wrestling lost it for him come September time where these 71 00:14:41,540 --> 00:14:48,540 last couple months he's been on a losing streak the momentum has been lost he comes out the pops are as good as they used to be and they've kind of 72 00:14:48,540 --> 00:14:56,540 pulled the bag for the last four months with will Ospreys while on solicico is part and I talked about it briefly this is a guy that went from being in the 73 00:14:56,540 --> 00:15:06,540 background and enforcer not talking at all never cutting a promo to starting to find his voice starting to find his personality being in high level matches he defeated John 74 00:15:06,540 --> 00:15:19,540 in the year he's been the tribal chief for a strong period of time he has led the new bloodline and he may be one of most overheals in all of WWE and all 75 00:15:19,540 --> 00:15:25,540 professional wrestling right now because you get once you get those FU chance from the crowd that tells you that you're doing something so 76 00:15:25,540 --> 00:15:36,540 doctor trained my 2024 breakouts are the year maybe a surprise but I was so let's go yeah like it for me this was kind of tough and I was like you like I 77 00:15:36,540 --> 00:15:45,540 I didn't have swarve on my category just because of his assent last year for me I had Osprey in the group because I didn't really know 78 00:15:45,540 --> 00:15:56,540 will Osprey for New Japan like I had seen a couple matches but actually see him come out this year I was like me I really enjoyed him I also had Joe Henry because I 79 00:15:56,540 --> 00:16:05,540 mean you can break out more than if you're if your theme music is being sung by NFL players and the guy may have 80 00:16:05,540 --> 00:16:14,540 been at NXT pay per view and a TNA pay per view within a month of each other like that was really awesome I also had Jacob Fatties I'm in the bloodline just I 81 00:16:14,540 --> 00:16:25,540 mean the I love you solo stuff and just his appearance and just how quickly he's gotten over with the crowd brawn breaker but when it came down to it I actually 82 00:16:25,540 --> 00:16:38,540 agree with you I went with solos of co as well because a year ago he was based and we for all kinds of purposes like you know a version of amaga just the silent killer that just went out there and just 83 00:16:38,540 --> 00:16:51,540 brutalized people but didn't really talk and here we are like a year later and the guy has some of the best promos some swagger charisma like he looks 84 00:16:51,540 --> 00:17:03,540 acts and does everything the way a superstar does and is able to hold his own with like you mentioned Johnson to last year but Roman Cody the wise man Paul Heyman like he's not out there 85 00:17:03,540 --> 00:17:13,540 with guys who cut bad promos he's out there with the top level guys when it comes to promos and he's holding his own so surprisingly you thought of 86 00:17:13,540 --> 00:17:21,540 surprise I agree with you for me the breakouts of the year was solos of coma so there you go both doctor trying to agree on this one breakouts are the year both 87 00:17:21,540 --> 00:17:31,540 handing out to solos of go from w e on the Smackdown brand that takes us to our next category which is moment of the year which moment stood above all 88 00:17:31,540 --> 00:17:38,540 the rest in the world professional wrestling and as our favorite some previous winners in 2023 it was see a punk shocking return to w e 89 00:17:38,540 --> 00:17:45,540 in the world as a w e it's a rather serious war game for me for doctorate with sam mese and Kevin Owens winning the undisputed team championship 90 00:17:45,540 --> 00:17:53,540 or WrestleMania 39 in 2022 was Cody Rhodes returned to w e for me and doctorate went with stone cold sea boss and wrestling at WrestleMania 38 91 00:17:53,540 --> 00:18:03,540 and in 2021 we both had see him punks return to professional wrestling at AW rampages first dance doctorate I start with you what is your 92 00:18:03,540 --> 00:18:19,540 year for this year I mean there was some really good moments I mean the debut of the y at six that great rock beat down of Cody like out by the bus with the bell and calling out his mom like that was 93 00:18:19,540 --> 00:18:31,540 up there sammy zane beating Gunther a WrestleMania the Mariah May he'll turn against Tony Storm was fantastic Cody finishing his story was great but I 94 00:18:31,540 --> 00:18:40,540 tend to get a little nostalgia for me this is always about getting in the fields and in in coming full circle of things like that so for me my moment of the 95 00:18:40,540 --> 00:18:51,540 year was stings last match in retirement like it's that was literally the last link to my actual childhood in wrestling was staying like he I 96 00:18:51,540 --> 00:19:02,540 remember seeing him when I was nine years old at a mid south wrestling show in Tulsa Oklahoma and to see him you know 37 years later her 97 00:19:02,540 --> 00:19:12,540 finally hanging up the boots it was all the feels and then having his kids out there and pre like dressed in previous incarnations of him 98 00:19:12,540 --> 00:19:19,540 as well like am I going to rank this up there as match of the year no but it was a good time it got me in my feels it got 99 00:19:19,540 --> 00:19:27,540 me in nostalgic and for me that's what great makes great moment so stings last match in retirement was my moment of the year for 100 00:19:27,540 --> 00:19:33,540 twenty twenty four yeah I think it was very special as well being the Greensboro Coliseum were staying at a lot of 101 00:19:33,540 --> 00:19:42,540 memorable matches and moments in his career this is going to be like coming off a shade to all eat wrestling but I don't 102 00:19:42,540 --> 00:19:49,540 think that's a good time in this way so hopefully nobody takes it this way but to me doctor trade that was like the tipping point for a W in 103 00:19:49,540 --> 00:19:56,540 twenty four I felt like that was the start of a decent run and when I look back at some of my favorite moments from a W in 104 00:19:56,540 --> 00:20:04,540 twenty four I think that is number one on my list so I think stings retirement last match at revolution I know he didn't want to go out as a 105 00:20:04,540 --> 00:20:13,540 winner but AW did the right thing by him everything was was pretty perfect in that match it was it was a memorable match and it was a really 106 00:20:13,540 --> 00:20:21,540 really cool scene I'm getting one last run and you know there's been a lot of bad things said about AW lately because of just the way 107 00:20:21,540 --> 00:20:29,540 that they're booking stuff and attendance and viewership but the way that they handled his final chapter of his career is some of the best 108 00:20:29,540 --> 00:20:39,540 things that they could have done for him I mean it was perfect it was poetic and it was the right thing to do for his career and that match of 109 00:20:39,540 --> 00:20:46,540 revolution with him and Darby Allen taking on the young bucks is if you have not seen it shame on you and go out of your way and check it out 110 00:20:46,540 --> 00:20:53,540 because it is a memorable moment it's a memorable match and I think that's a great moment of the year for Dr. Trey stings last match and 111 00:20:53,540 --> 00:21:03,540 for me Dr. Trey while different from you we do different this one I think it's another great moment emotional moment something that was very cool to see in 112 00:21:03,540 --> 00:21:10,540 at times you didn't know if you'd ever really see it and if they were actually going to do it and that was Cody Rhodes finishing his story winning the 113 00:21:10,540 --> 00:21:20,540 undisputed W. A universal championship but WrestleMania 40 the match the crowd the commentary the emotion the stuff that played out the 114 00:21:20,540 --> 00:21:32,540 night before at night one of WrestleMania 40 everything was done pretty well done and this is coming from a guy that was not the biggest Cody Rhodes fan and looks back at it now and it's like W. A 115 00:21:32,540 --> 00:21:40,540 right I mean this is the right thing to do it was a huge story in the beginning of the year we talked about it on last week show how WWE pivoted and went into the 116 00:21:40,540 --> 00:21:53,540 direction of letting Cody finish his story and I'm glad they did it was a very fun match it was very entertaining and it was it was a great moment it for me it was obviously my 117 00:21:53,540 --> 00:22:01,540 moment of the year and I just found it to be a lot of fun and I was happy to see a Rhodes hold a world championship a WWE world 118 00:22:01,540 --> 00:22:11,540 championship high above their head at WrestleMania because I think that family deserved it and Cody deserved it Dr. Trey. Yeah I mean that was like literally like for me it was like one A 119 00:22:11,540 --> 00:22:20,540 and one B I mean they're both emotional nostalgic moments a lot of ways for me as well I mean like you know growing up watching Dusty Rose being a 120 00:22:20,540 --> 00:22:30,540 Dusty Rose fan watching Cody's journey from when he first started into wrestling all the way to now the match itself having the tie-ins with you know both 121 00:22:30,540 --> 00:22:38,540 Oosso's getting involved and then solo getting involved and you know you got you know the stuff was Seth Rollins and then there's the 122 00:22:38,540 --> 00:22:47,540 undertaker in the rock like all these people from across multiple generations of wrestling getting involved in that match leading to Cody's 123 00:22:47,540 --> 00:22:54,540 win was something that we'll never forget and then seeing you know Mama Rhodes in the ring with Cody at the end of the 124 00:22:54,540 --> 00:23:01,540 match like all those things are what makes wrestling beautiful and why we have been fans for you know for me 40 125 00:23:01,540 --> 00:23:09,540 some odd years now those things are great and and last a lifetime and one of those moments where you're going to be 126 00:23:09,540 --> 00:23:18,540 like in 20 years when Jeff's telling you know baby pack about wrestling and and where he was at he'll remember exactly where he was when he 127 00:23:18,540 --> 00:23:24,540 watched Cody Rose win that's idle and finished the story so now standing picked by you as well. All right here we go to our next 128 00:23:24,540 --> 00:23:32,540 category and that is event of the year what was our favorite wrestling event from 2024 previous winners 129 00:23:32,540 --> 00:23:41,540 including 2023 WrestleMania 39 in 2020 that's from both of us in 2022 both of us selected WrestleMania 38 in 2021 both of us selected 130 00:23:41,540 --> 00:23:52,540 AW all out and now it's time to select the winner for 2024 Dr. Trey I will kick this one off I went back to all of our 131 00:23:52,540 --> 00:24:01,540 ratings from 2024 every show that we covered and the number one highest rated show for me specifically was 132 00:24:01,540 --> 00:24:08,540 WrestleMania 40 the Sunday night two version of WrestleMania 40 but my overall event of the year was the all 133 00:24:08,540 --> 00:24:15,540 encompassing WrestleMania 40 so that keeps with the trend here for me the last two years I want WrestleMania 38 I 134 00:24:15,540 --> 00:24:23,540 want WrestleMania 39 even night one for WrestleMania 40 I felt was one of the better shows of the year one of the top 135 00:24:23,540 --> 00:24:35,540 shows of the year and just all encompassing Saturday to Sunday I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I saw from WrestleMania 40 so that was my event of the year Dr. Trey what say you? 136 00:24:35,540 --> 00:24:44,540 Luckily I have I have such a great co-host the guy who's nominated for co-host of the year that actually sent me all the scores and I looked it 137 00:24:44,540 --> 00:24:52,540 over and so you know WrestleMania night two was my highest ratio of the year WrestleMania night one was my third rated highest rated event 138 00:24:52,540 --> 00:25:02,540 who you're only Summerslam jumped in the middle of those so combining it all up I'm with you WrestleMania as a whole came out I think I averaged out to a 139 00:25:02,540 --> 00:25:14,540 4.3 for both nights total so WrestleMania 40 was also my event of the year this year so the street continues and shockingly enough they're all from the Hunter 140 00:25:14,540 --> 00:25:23,540 Hurst Helmsley Paul Avec booked WrestleMania so three in a row for a triple H when it comes to putting together events of the year. 141 00:25:23,540 --> 00:25:31,540 All right so Dr. Trey we did 40 this year 39 last year 38 two years ago is this a trilogy of WrestleMania as we talked about earlier this year is it 142 00:25:31,540 --> 00:25:39,540 so much a 17 18 19 yeah I think I think you know five years from now when you look back I think we'll definitely put there I 143 00:25:39,540 --> 00:25:53,540 feel I hate saying it now because it kind of feels knee jerkish in a way but you know 38 was good 39 was fantastic 40 was fantastic so yeah I think when historians of wrestling 144 00:25:53,540 --> 00:26:03,540 look back I think 38 39 of 40 to be a list and the crazy thing is we still haven't got rock and roll man which might be at 41 this might be the 145 00:26:03,540 --> 00:26:15,540 the quad the quadruple like the quadrason the the grand slam of of WrestleMania in a row I don't know how you play it out but I mean on paper there's some stuff 146 00:26:15,540 --> 00:26:23,540 at WrestleMania 41 that might top what we've seen the last couple of years yeah could they go for straight some really really good 147 00:26:23,540 --> 00:26:33,540 WrestleMania is in a row here I we've never seen that before though I think people would argue that WrestleMania 20 was a very good show I always have looked at it as a trilogy 17 18 19 148 00:26:33,540 --> 00:26:41,540 while 20 was solid I do not put it in that same vein as those three and I think 38 39 40 are now in that discussion as some of the best 149 00:26:41,540 --> 00:26:53,540 trilogy is of WrestleMania history we've ever seen and then that takes us doctor trade to our next category this is a personal favorite of mine it is feud of the year for long time 150 00:26:53,540 --> 00:27:05,540 wrestling fans like doctor trade myself these are some of the things that make us wrestling fans a good feud puts it together and leads to a match or several matches down the road in 2023 I had sort of 151 00:27:05,540 --> 00:27:15,540 strickland hangman out in page doctor trade sammy zane and kevin oens versus the bloodline in 2022 I had punk in MJF for me w doctor trade career roads and Seth Rollins from raw 152 00:27:15,540 --> 00:27:25,540 and in 2021 we both had christ year or co in MJF it'll be interesting if for the first time since 2021 doctor trade you and I agree in this category 153 00:27:25,540 --> 00:27:34,540 so let's start with you what is your 2024 feud of the year yeah for me it came that there was two feuds it was swerving hangman again continuing on their feud 154 00:27:34,540 --> 00:27:47,540 and then see on punk and and Drew McIntyre there was some moments in both these feuds that made it really hard to pick one over the other but in the end I went with CM Punk and Drew McIntyre's my 155 00:27:47,540 --> 00:28:01,540 feud of the year just the fact that they ran this feud for roughly 10 months basically kicking off a Royal Rumble last year all the through with punks injury going on and everything else leading to that great 156 00:28:01,540 --> 00:28:12,540 match at bad blood like just the personal vitriol that kind of came out there and then in a lot of ways a feud over a bra handmade bracelet 157 00:28:12,540 --> 00:28:23,540 like it's crazy but it really brought CM Punk out in a lot of ways and kind of got the bad taste of the end of AW out of our mouths and 158 00:28:23,540 --> 00:28:35,540 kind of elevated Drew McIntyre on to a different level and this is a guy who's one you know WrestleMania made events and stuff like that so for me like this just showcase these guys in different lights 159 00:28:35,540 --> 00:28:49,540 and and punk and McIntyre for me a few to the year this year yeah this was a few that when 10 months long and for seven of them they were one or both was injured and and doctor trade I'm not going to stop the momentum here my 160 00:28:49,540 --> 00:29:02,540 feud of the year is also CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre and it's similar to the things that you said and what I just said where you know there was a 10 month long feud and for seven months either one or both of them was injured 161 00:29:02,540 --> 00:29:10,540 because there was a period of time I think it's off to forgotten that Drew was actually injured and not wrestling and it was one of the most captivating feud still still in professional 162 00:29:10,540 --> 00:29:16,540 wrestling they would come in there they would cut promos they weren't wrestling but I still gave a damn and it led up to a 163 00:29:16,540 --> 00:29:29,540 four corners bull rope match it led to a hell in a sell match to end it all and it just had a nice old school flavor and feel to it and more importantly 164 00:29:29,540 --> 00:29:37,540 doctor trade it was organically done punk gets legitimately injured in the Royal Rumble at the hands of Drew McIntyre and that leads to an actual 165 00:29:37,540 --> 00:29:44,540 feud because up until that point at the rumble we all thought it was going to be CM Punk versus Seth wrong I think the plan was for 166 00:29:44,540 --> 00:29:59,540 CM Punk versus Seth wrongs like we're seeing it play out presently but they went in the direction of the injury and it was so organically done well and it was so great and Drew at one time was one of our 167 00:29:59,540 --> 00:30:07,540 srt wrestles of the year and we got another layer of Drew that we've never seen before that was so captivating entertaining and there showed a lot of great 168 00:30:07,540 --> 00:30:19,540 up he is one of my favorite performers to watch on television CM Punk in WWE feels revitalized it feels like he gives a damn a little bit more than he did in a W in the 169 00:30:19,540 --> 00:30:28,540 character depth with him is so good right now this is a pretty perfect few doctor trade it it amazes me what they were able to accomplish again with like 170 00:30:28,540 --> 00:30:41,540 seven months of them not being able to work and only three months actually have matches and it was poetic it was so well done it was very memorable and there you go doctor trade both of us electing our few to the 171 00:30:41,540 --> 00:30:52,540 year CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre. Yeah and the crazy thing is they kept K-Fave through the entire few because here we are ten months later and we don't know if these guys actually get a 172 00:30:52,540 --> 00:31:07,540 lot of the crazy parts of me were I'm like yeah usually you see these feuds and you see an interview somewhere and somebody's like you know he's a great use a great partner to work with you know I really enjoyed this rivalry that a no that you still to this day don't know if they 173 00:31:07,540 --> 00:31:20,540 actually get a lot of it's crazy but I will say that's where hangman the burning house it was swerving hangman there at the end of their feud like that makes it real that that made it really really hard not to choose them 174 00:31:20,540 --> 00:31:31,540 never seen anything like that before but yeah for just all school long term storytelling and feud I mean that McIntyre and Punk was just phenomenal well and I don't want to turn this into a 175 00:31:31,540 --> 00:31:44,540 batch of a W to your point yeah that hangman and so are few goddess captivated in all the wrestling and what did AW do they ran one last match with them sort of one way for about a month to 176 00:31:44,540 --> 00:31:54,540 eventually film something his house gets burned down his family's house gets burnt down by hangman and then they just go in their separate ways it was like wait what like when you think that's after the way that's where got beat down from hangman 177 00:31:54,540 --> 00:32:04,540 page the baddest man in AW would want to return and then take out hangman they didn't follow it up that huge could have carried AW for the rest of this year and if you were 178 00:32:04,540 --> 00:32:18,540 looking for a few to carry AW into the next end of part of the year or into 2025 they should have rested their hat there even though they've done it before people love it and I think if they kept it going I think it's in stronger 179 00:32:18,540 --> 00:32:28,540 consideration for few to the year for both of us so there you go few to the year both of us selecting CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre and now it is time for our match of the year 180 00:32:28,540 --> 00:32:38,540 what was the best match in all the professional wrestling in 2024 our choices from 2023 I had re-arriably inshawled it flare from WrestleMania 39 181 00:32:38,540 --> 00:32:46,540 Dr. Trey it's worth strictly an hangman and a page from AW full gear in 2022 we both had Stone Cold Steve Aussa versus Kevin Owens from WrestleMania 38 182 00:32:46,540 --> 00:32:56,540 in 2021 I had Bianca Belay versus Sasha Banks from WrestleMania 37 while Dr. Trey had had an hangman and a page versus Brian Dengelson from AW Winter is coming 183 00:32:56,540 --> 00:33:14,540 Dr. Trey this was a really hard one for me to pick so I went back through our notes our matches the night from pay-per-views took in consideration stuff that you obviously would see from raw NXT Dynamite SmackDown, Rampage Collision, whatever 184 00:33:14,540 --> 00:33:28,540 anything out there in the world outside of pay-per-views and I narrowed it down basically to the stuff that really stood out to me from the pay-per-views and those were Will Osprey and Caduce K Takeshka from AW Revolution, Cody Rhodes versus Roman Reigns from WrestleMania 40 185 00:33:28,540 --> 00:33:42,540 AW Dynasty had Will Osprey and Brian Dengelson at AW in New Japan for Ben and Doris were of Strickland and Will Osprey but at the end of the year when I was like man what was the match that I enjoy the most that was my favorite 186 00:33:42,540 --> 00:33:57,540 I got to go back not too long ago and that was from WWE Bad Blood of CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre in the Hell in a Cell match I think it is one of the best Hell in a Cell matches I have seen in some time that doesn't involve some sort of major nasty spot 187 00:33:57,540 --> 00:34:15,540 Dare I say it's better than the original of Shawn Michaels versus Undertaker from Bad Blood 1997 I thought this match was captivating, entertaining, violent, told a great story and was the perfect way to cap off what I consider to be the feud of the year and Dr. Tray considered to be feud of the year CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre 188 00:34:15,540 --> 00:34:25,540 So I think for me Dr. Tray looking back at it in 2004 my match of the year CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre and Hell in a Cell match from DodoWee Bad Blood 189 00:34:25,540 --> 00:34:35,540 Yeah so we've been together a long time and I had three matches that my kind of came down to and you've already mentioned Cody and Roman from WrestleMania 40 190 00:34:35,540 --> 00:34:46,540 Not maybe too much for the in-ring stuff but the total encapsulation of everything and then when you're looking for a in-ring stuff my swerve and Will Osprey from For Ben and Doris was fantastic 191 00:34:46,540 --> 00:35:01,540 But when it came down to match of the year I can't disagree with you I also had CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre from Bad Blood like that match kind of brought back what Hell in a Cell matches for me was about we didn't have crazy red lights 192 00:35:01,540 --> 00:35:10,540 We didn't have guys sticking screw drivers through you know gauges and people's ears it was just old school violent 193 00:35:10,540 --> 00:35:23,540 I hate you you hate me we're going to tear each other apart for the sake of wrestling and for the sake of our audience I mean to me it was kind of reminiscent of the Triple H Mick Foley Hell in a Cell match 194 00:35:23,540 --> 00:35:33,540 I mean it brought back just those memories of just two men that you legitimately think hate each other just literally doing everything they can to put the other person down 195 00:35:33,540 --> 00:35:53,540 I mean to this day I still remember the toolbox shot and how it split open it was bloody it was violent it is what Hell in a Cell matches were supposed to be and it kind of brought that joy of Hell in a Cell matches back so for me match of the year just like you said it was CM Punk and Drew McIntyre from Bad Blood 196 00:35:53,540 --> 00:36:06,540 So there you go our match of the year both Dr. Trey and I selecting CM Punk versus Drew McIntyre and the Hell in a Cell match from Bad Blood obviously that goes along with our selection for a few to the year and that's I think sometimes that's how it should be 197 00:36:06,540 --> 00:36:22,540 I mean a very very good feud should have a match that people look back at and stand upon and go that was a match of the year candidate or the match of the year and that is the case this year for both Dr. Trey and I giving our flowers to both CM Punk and Drew McIntyre and WWE 198 00:36:22,540 --> 00:36:47,540 and that takes us to our next category this is another one Dr. Trey that I am really intrigued and interested to see the direction that you and I both go because I think people could say it was a down year for this and that is Tag Team of the Year in 2023 I had Sammie Zayn and Kevin Owens Dr. Trey had FDR in 2022 we both had the Usos and in 2021 I had the Young Box and Dr. Trey had the Lucha Brothers 199 00:36:47,540 --> 00:37:16,540 Dr. Trey this was an interesting year for Tag Team Wrestling people could say that there wasn't a lot of Tag Team Wrestling in WWE and in AEW and I would agree with them but what I would say is in the last couple weeks and you mentioned in on last week show as well there has been an upswing in Tag Team Wrestling in WWE and on Ross Macdown and in NXT and that has been very exciting because as a guy who loves Tag Team Wrestling that's what I'd like to see more often and and a really good solid WWE is when they all 200 00:37:16,540 --> 00:37:42,540 have a very good solid Tag Team division go back to that attitude there that's in Christian the Dudley's Hardies APA so many others that was all in there at that period of time and that's what you need to have a very good solid foundation for your golden years so there there is Dr. Trey Tag Team of the Year I'm interested in the direction what say you who is your 2024 Tag Team of the Year 201 00:37:42,540 --> 00:38:07,540 Yeah Tag Team Wrestling was kind of fractured in a lot of ways I mean for me there was some picks or like if you went off like little small spurts I had the guns in the running of course any year private parties in the running you know you have the return of the war raters you know DIY had a pretty solid year the Motor City machine guns pop up when the Tag belts but when it came came to the entire year I had two teams to choose from 202 00:38:07,540 --> 00:38:33,540 and it came down to the young bucks and the newly coined Fraxium I love what the bucks did this year with kind of the reinvention of their characters but Fraxium just kind of dominated NXT the Tag Team division ups and downs teasing of breakups wrestling twice in one night they're doing you know Nathan Fragers wrestling in the 203 00:38:33,540 --> 00:39:03,340 iron survivor challenge and then having his match and then you come back just this past Tuesday and you got you got axiom in the ring with oboe femy for them to come back and defend the belts against gallus Nathan Frazier and axiom I mean I think I said they're going to break up like at least three times this year they never did they kind of ran and dominated the NXT Tag Team division has some great matches as well so Nathan Frazier Fraxium also the first time I have ever 204 00:39:03,340 --> 00:39:12,340 got to pick a Rockest City alumni for an SRT award so Nathan Frazier axiom Fraxium my tag team of the year. 205 00:39:12,340 --> 00:39:33,300 Yeah Dr. Trey I'm with you this one I selected Nathan Frazier and axiom as well and I know you mentioned the young bucks I felt like it wasn't close I felt like there was only one true tag team that was consistent in all of 2024 and it was Nathan Frazier and axiom their storyline of this weird chemistry and relationship with the 206 00:39:33,300 --> 00:39:46,860 one other is very intriguing and I think it's starting to build towards some more positive momentum and NXT as of late where now they have each other's backs and I think the fans are behind them they are an exciting tag team to watch again I love this in 207 00:39:46,860 --> 00:40:03,260 professional wrestling it was very organic pairing it wasn't one that was like these two guys need to be put together and it just has taken off the fans are starting to get behind them and I think at least the early part of 2025 if they remain together that they're going to have a ton of momentum and I think that this may be a pathway for them 208 00:40:03,260 --> 00:40:15,340 up to raw Smackdown moving forward as well because I think they're very exciting tag team a very entertaining tag team and they're fun to watch so both was picking Nathan Frazier and axiom to win the tag team 209 00:40:15,340 --> 00:40:26,780 the year if there was a second place I would give and it's a very very distant second I think I'd give it to Bianca Belar and Jade Cargill but I thought Jade Cargill's injury towards the end of this year kind of 210 00:40:26,780 --> 00:40:53,020 deep in that little bit and there's been some inconsistencies as well but they were a constant force in the at least on the women's tag team division this year but both Dr. Trenai going with Nathan Frazier and axiom and Dr. Trenai this is the first time since 2019 for you and I both to select a tag team from NXT to win this award you want to take a guess who you and I picked for tag team of the air was two different tag teams from NXT back in 2019 211 00:40:53,020 --> 00:41:15,260 I would think that one of them was DIY trying to think of a top-end no oh my gosh 2019 so five years ago tag no I have no clue right now time I had I had the Viking Raiders which were then known as the war Raiders and now back as the war Raiders you had the undisputed Eric Kyle O'Reilly and Bobby Fish 212 00:41:15,260 --> 00:41:45,180 Yeah there you go I was trying to think about like man it's hard for me at times remember like timelines without actually looking at specific I was like I was around that point yeah I was thinking I was to be there and I was like FTR that was way before that I was trying to do the math like the crazy thing is that's kind of what NXT for the most part was built upon was their tag team division for a lot of this you know last 10 years of NXT so surprising 213 00:41:45,180 --> 00:42:00,140 that you know it it's like five years for us to pick another tag team from NXT because they've had some good ones in that mix as well so kind of it's probably took this long for the NXT tag team division kind of bounced back and become a focal point 214 00:42:00,140 --> 00:42:12,620 Alright Dr. Treweer down to our final four categories and this next one is female wrestler of the year which female wrestling star was the top performer in all of 2024 215 00:42:12,620 --> 00:42:39,580 in 2023 we both had real Ripley in 2022 we both had Bianca Belair and in 2021 I had Bianca Belair Dr. Treweer Dr. Britt Baker DMD from AEW and I think this one is going to be an interesting choice because I don't think that there has been any real dominant women in this division of all the professional wrestling this year as it was like last year with the Real Ripley or the year previously with Bianca Belair 216 00:42:39,580 --> 00:42:47,820 but when I looked back in 2024 and I was trying to wreck my brain alright who do I think was the best female performer female wrestler this year 217 00:42:47,820 --> 00:42:59,980 for me it's someone that did a complete 180 in their character was an amazing baby face and has become an amazing heel and it is our current women's world champion Dr. Treweer and that is Liv Morgan 218 00:42:59,980 --> 00:43:05,020 Liv Morgan from WWE from the Raw Brand is my female wrestler of the year 219 00:43:05,020 --> 00:43:13,500 she has really come into her own where she was working as a baby face in the beginning of the year and working to the heel of Rhea Ripley was injured 220 00:43:13,500 --> 00:43:29,740 came back and was on this vendetta tour of you know revenge tour as she put it towards Rhea Ripley and then there was like this again here's the word organic shift where the fans started cheering for Rhea and started booing Liv and she didn't understand that 221 00:43:29,740 --> 00:43:42,220 and then went through this great character development into the summer where you know she was trying to steal down a mysterious way from Rhea Ripley and put some cracks in the judgment day and she was successful in doing that in summer slam 222 00:43:42,220 --> 00:43:48,620 they've really built her up as a strong female competitor winning the crown jewel championship back in November overnight at Jax 223 00:43:48,620 --> 00:43:53,180 and she's one of the best female wrestlers in the business today Dr. Trewe 224 00:43:53,180 --> 00:44:02,140 so major major props to Liv Morgan who I remember her starting out in NXT not having a lot of character depth not a lot of great in ring ability 225 00:44:02,140 --> 00:44:11,740 then working with the right squad and having a tough time there and has broken out and has become a top tier level talent so congratulations to her 226 00:44:11,740 --> 00:44:15,420 my female wrestler the year Dr. Tre is Liv Morgan 227 00:44:15,420 --> 00:44:24,380 yeah I mean for one reason or another maybe the depth the women's wrestling is really really strong you talked about it 228 00:44:24,380 --> 00:44:31,180 on last week's show about how strong the NXT women's vision is AW has a bunch of talent as well 229 00:44:31,180 --> 00:44:38,700 and for me like I mean I got to throw us a monobole mentions you're Jordan Grace great year from day viewing in the rumble 230 00:44:38,700 --> 00:44:44,620 the crossover stuff with Roxanne Perez being in the TNA women's champion for most of the year 231 00:44:44,620 --> 00:44:49,260 she's up there Bailey winning the rumble winning a WrestleMania had a great year 232 00:44:49,260 --> 00:44:55,980 timeless Tony Storm and then now back to Tony Time great year for her Mariah May great year 233 00:44:55,980 --> 00:45:01,980 Rhea you can't argue with Rhea it's just that she got injured a few times this year which I think 234 00:45:01,980 --> 00:45:05,260 slows her momentum so that led to me doing the kind of the same thing as you Jeff 235 00:45:05,260 --> 00:45:11,820 my women's wrestler here Liv Morgan I mean for one I've always had a crush on Liv Morgan she's a beautiful woman 236 00:45:12,780 --> 00:45:18,380 early on like you mentioned in her time in NXT coming onto the main roster maybe not the most talented 237 00:45:18,380 --> 00:45:24,220 wrestler at the time did have a lot of character death if you had told me if you'd ask me years ago 238 00:45:24,220 --> 00:45:29,900 who would be the breakout star of the Rhea squad I probably would have picked Ruby right it wasn't 239 00:45:29,900 --> 00:45:38,460 going to be Liv and it wasn't going to be you know Sarah Logan but Liv much I don't want to use 240 00:45:38,460 --> 00:45:46,540 this comparison in a negative way but kind of the the Nikki Bell of women's wrestling right now which is 241 00:45:46,540 --> 00:45:51,900 she went from somebody that you just didn't think was that good she put in the work she put in their 242 00:45:51,900 --> 00:45:57,900 effort she's become a very very solid in ring wrestler she's fantastic on the microphone 243 00:45:57,900 --> 00:46:03,980 and just from what WWE is done with her this year they have trust in her I mean you don't have her when 244 00:46:03,980 --> 00:46:09,100 the crown jewel championship if you don't have faith in her you don't put her in the judgment day into 245 00:46:09,100 --> 00:46:15,740 this nearly year long feud with arguably your top star in the company Rhea Ripley unless you have faith in her 246 00:46:15,740 --> 00:46:22,060 that they've put a lot of their eggs in her basket and she's responded well so like you my female 247 00:46:22,060 --> 00:46:27,420 wrestler the year Liv Morgan so there you go both Dr. Tren and I picking Liv Morgan as the female 248 00:46:27,420 --> 00:46:33,820 wrestler of the year for 2024 and then that takes us over to our next category just like a female but 249 00:46:33,820 --> 00:46:41,500 this one is male wrestler of the year which of the males not the American males but males in general 250 00:46:41,500 --> 00:46:49,420 professional wrestling was the top wrestler of 2024 last year I had Seth Freakin-Roll and Dr. Drey at MJF 251 00:46:49,420 --> 00:46:59,020 in 2022 and in 2021 both Dr. Tren and I had Roman Reigns Dr. Trey this is a top award to give out to 252 00:46:59,020 --> 00:47:07,100 the males not the American males in professional wrestling but what say you who is your 2024 male 253 00:47:07,100 --> 00:47:12,220 wrestler of the year all right I hate you right now because now I have American males American males 254 00:47:12,220 --> 00:47:17,980 American males every time I think I'm out you pull me back in whether it's by saying that or by 255 00:47:17,980 --> 00:47:23,580 you know mentioning that Chad Gable is running a group called American Maid I was like this is going 256 00:47:23,580 --> 00:47:30,780 to be my hip-hop well this actually may have been the toughest year I've had at picking a male superstar 257 00:47:30,780 --> 00:47:36,300 of the year I don't know like nobody just like really jumped out off the page of me there's a lot of 258 00:47:36,300 --> 00:47:43,740 guys who had really fantastic years really great years I mean on the AEW side Swarth Strickland obviously 259 00:47:43,740 --> 00:47:50,380 had a pretty strong year will Ospreay jumped out off the page had a great year John Moxley had a 260 00:47:50,380 --> 00:47:56,940 really great year WWE I mean Gunther I mean Interkindle title run ending in WrestleMania winning King 261 00:47:56,940 --> 00:48:02,060 of the Ring and then the World Heavyweight Championship Cody finishing his story like a lot of top people 262 00:48:02,060 --> 00:48:09,020 but I think just as far as performance evolution depth of character everything else I would 263 00:48:09,020 --> 00:48:15,740 into it this may be a surprise to some folks my male wrestler of the year this year is Drew McIntyre 264 00:48:15,740 --> 00:48:23,740 I just thought from just a tell you award from where he started to where he is now just the entertainment 265 00:48:23,740 --> 00:48:30,460 value the in ring ability the promo ability getting on social media to help continue on that CM 266 00:48:30,460 --> 00:48:36,700 Pung feud elevating guys around him making them step their games up I don't think anybody had a 267 00:48:36,700 --> 00:48:43,980 stronger year this year as far as an actual professional wrestler then Drew McIntyre so Drew McIntyre 268 00:48:43,980 --> 00:48:50,300 is my 2024 male wrestler of the year well there you go there is the shock and awe of the 2024 SRT 269 00:48:50,300 --> 00:48:56,380 award show special right there Dr. Trey Drew McIntyre at a very very strong year I love the selection 270 00:48:56,380 --> 00:49:02,220 I did not see this coming this is surprising but when you think about it it is justifiably 271 00:49:02,220 --> 00:49:08,300 deserving he had an amazing amazing year yeah I mean it's weird like when you mentioned like win 272 00:49:08,300 --> 00:49:14,140 loss records he probably had a bad loss record all things considered but he was must see television 273 00:49:14,140 --> 00:49:18,540 every single time whether it was on the microphone or in the ring yeah just entertainment value 274 00:49:18,540 --> 00:49:23,180 alone and this is I mean this is a guy who carried WWE through the covid years and I don't know if 275 00:49:23,180 --> 00:49:27,580 he ever got the respect he deserved I think this is the year where he finally kind of broke through 276 00:49:27,580 --> 00:49:33,820 as a main event guy a top guy a guy you can build a company around even more so than the covid years 277 00:49:33,820 --> 00:49:39,900 I think this was his best year to date as far as the in-ring competitor well both Dr. Trey and I 278 00:49:39,900 --> 00:49:44,780 had selected Drew McIntyre to win this award back in 2020 speaking of the covid year so there you go 279 00:49:44,780 --> 00:49:52,460 Dr. Trey went with Drew McIntyre as his 2024 male wrestler of the year for me Dr. Trey I thought 280 00:49:52,460 --> 00:49:58,380 this was an easy selection I thought it was one that as the year went on there was one person that 281 00:49:58,380 --> 00:50:03,660 stood above all the rest and was carrying the flag of professional wrestling and was carrying the flag 282 00:50:03,660 --> 00:50:11,500 for specifically WWE and then is our current WWE undisputed WWE Champion and that is the American 283 00:50:11,500 --> 00:50:18,540 Knight Marikoti Rhodes he is the face of WWE if you didn't believe it in the beginning of 2024 284 00:50:18,540 --> 00:50:23,580 I hope you believe it now because he is the face of the company he is the next of the lineages of 285 00:50:23,580 --> 00:50:29,260 John Cena Roman Reigns and now Cody Rhodes he is the guy this is the Cody Rhodes error this is the 286 00:50:29,260 --> 00:50:34,300 guy that is going to be carrying the company he is the quarterback he wanted the ball and he's doing 287 00:50:34,300 --> 00:50:38,380 a good job with it I mean they're having record breaking business and is it all because of him 288 00:50:38,380 --> 00:50:42,940 absolutely not but is is he tearing the cover off the ball when it comes to merchandise sales 289 00:50:42,940 --> 00:50:49,580 absolutely does he have the kids and the fans overall the palm of his hand absolutely is he good on 290 00:50:49,580 --> 00:50:55,820 the microphone absolutely good character absolutely is he putting good matches on the show absolutely 291 00:50:55,820 --> 00:50:59,820 and the best thing about him as of late and this was something Dr. Treyner were talking about once 292 00:50:59,820 --> 00:51:04,300 you won the championship he was missing a storyline he was missing a few and I think you may have 293 00:51:04,300 --> 00:51:08,220 found it now with Kevin Owens because that is captivating and it's bringing aside out of Cody 294 00:51:08,220 --> 00:51:13,900 Rhodes that is really good and it also shows the really good storytelling that WWE has because it's 295 00:51:13,900 --> 00:51:21,260 all started when Cody Rhodes ironically enough tag teamed up with Roman Reigns to take on Solosikova 296 00:51:21,260 --> 00:51:27,820 and Jacob Fatu at Bad Blood earlier not too many months ago at in Atlanta Georgia and that led 297 00:51:27,820 --> 00:51:33,900 to a really good feud so Dr. Trey I felt like for me this is probably a very easy selection you had a 298 00:51:33,900 --> 00:51:39,260 very bold and a very cool selection with Drew McIntyre I went with Cody Rhodes as my male wrestler of the 299 00:51:39,260 --> 00:51:46,700 year I can't argue Cody on being right there like I mentioned he was in my he was on my list I just 300 00:51:46,700 --> 00:51:56,700 felt like with Cody like he's the face of the company but from about May until October like it just 301 00:51:56,700 --> 00:52:03,100 felt like you and I had many conversations about like it just he needed something to sink his teeth 302 00:52:03,100 --> 00:52:10,140 into to really bring out that next great rivalry I just kind of felt like the KO stuff as good as it is 303 00:52:10,140 --> 00:52:16,140 kind of was a little bit too late for him to kind of make up the I think I just have like Drew 304 00:52:16,140 --> 00:52:23,180 had more consistency for the entire year of being entertaining where there are times Cody was 305 00:52:23,180 --> 00:52:27,100 a little dull for me but I can't argue because everything you said about him is really right he's 306 00:52:27,100 --> 00:52:34,140 the face of the company he's driving the business everybody loves Cody Rhodes and the stuff with KO 307 00:52:34,140 --> 00:52:40,780 right now in it in the the branching of the stories from you know the match at WrestleMania with 308 00:52:40,780 --> 00:52:47,500 Roman to you know teaming with Roman which leads to KO turn and then eventually what's going to 309 00:52:47,500 --> 00:52:53,660 happen with Randy Orton all of that stuff it's great storytelling it's Cody's primed to have a great 310 00:52:53,660 --> 00:53:02,140 2025 I just felt like that that middle gap through the summer and early fall he the the Cody 311 00:53:02,140 --> 00:53:06,940 Roadstores is a little flat for me and the Drew stuff is just more entertaining throughout the entire 312 00:53:06,940 --> 00:53:11,980 year but if somebody was like hey Cody's the best wrestler in the world that's why I picked Cody I 313 00:53:11,980 --> 00:53:17,900 can't knock it a bit it's right there with Drew for me so now let's get to our next category Dr. 314 00:53:17,900 --> 00:53:26,300 Trey and that is wrestling promotion of the year this was introduced back in 2019 back then in 2019 315 00:53:26,300 --> 00:53:34,620 we both had NXT in 2020 we both at AW in 2021 we both had Smackdown and in 2022 in 2023 we both had 316 00:53:34,620 --> 00:53:42,700 WWE Raw so we have the WWE Brands Raw NXT and Smackdown on their own AWs of holes on their own 317 00:53:42,700 --> 00:53:50,300 obviously TNA MLW GCW any wrestling promotion can win this award since the history of the 318 00:53:50,300 --> 00:53:55,500 war Dr. Trey you and I have selected the same promotion each every year and I wonder if that's 319 00:53:55,500 --> 00:54:02,700 going to continue in 2024 so I will begin my wrestling promotion of the year it to me it is the 320 00:54:02,700 --> 00:54:11,740 best wrestling show on television and that is WWE Raw winning it for me at least three years in a row 321 00:54:11,740 --> 00:54:17,020 this used to be a show that Dr. Trey and I would bash is something like you gotta get back down to 322 00:54:17,020 --> 00:54:22,060 two hours they got back down to two hours recently and now I want to back to three hours I mean 323 00:54:22,060 --> 00:54:26,380 that that is what they're doing they're keeping me entertained and captivated from 8 p.m. 324 00:54:26,380 --> 00:54:31,420 to 11 p.m. on the East Coast time when they're at three hours or 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the East Coast time 325 00:54:31,420 --> 00:54:37,020 right now it is a great show it is a lot of depth to it it is helped to develop a lot of stars in 326 00:54:37,020 --> 00:54:45,340 WWE and it is joyable front to back I can't think of a Raw in recent memory or in 2024 in general 327 00:54:45,340 --> 00:54:49,420 that when I look back I go well that was an episode I could have skipped I thought every episode was 328 00:54:49,420 --> 00:54:55,020 really good I thought every episode was very strong so for me Dr. Trey my 2024 wrestling promotion 329 00:54:55,020 --> 00:55:02,220 the year once again freeing a role for me WWE Raw this was a little closer for me than maybe last 330 00:55:02,220 --> 00:55:08,860 year I thought NXT rebounded so well this year because from two years ago I could it was unwatchable 331 00:55:08,860 --> 00:55:15,100 and I told you for a while I had a tune out of NXT and I thought this year they had a really 332 00:55:15,100 --> 00:55:22,860 really strong year but like you said for me it came down to was there a bad episode and for me 333 00:55:22,860 --> 00:55:28,220 WWE money I Raw did not have a bad episode not just the top of the car I mean I mentioned Drew 334 00:55:28,220 --> 00:55:34,860 McIntyre the CM Drew McIntyre CM Punk stuff was Monday Night Raw the the Bronson Reed Braun 335 00:55:34,860 --> 00:55:42,540 Strowman feud was fun you know going all the way back through you know I'm just the carrying cross 336 00:55:42,540 --> 00:55:48,620 carrying cross Xavier Woods Miz Y6 by the way I haven't had a chance to mention it by the way 337 00:55:48,620 --> 00:55:54,460 very underrated performer this year carrying cross a little bit a little bit of the fiend effect 338 00:55:54,460 --> 00:56:01,180 that everybody he is feuded with over the last year has turned heel so a little bit of the old 339 00:56:01,180 --> 00:56:07,900 fiend effect on these people as well but the Y6 final testament the Y6 American made American 340 00:56:07,900 --> 00:56:13,500 Alpha breaking up you know the live rea stuff I mean all this stuff has been on Monday Night Raw 341 00:56:13,500 --> 00:56:21,020 been compelling television our truth and Pete Dunn has been fantastic lately just so much fun to 342 00:56:21,020 --> 00:56:29,340 watch so from top to bottom just I mean Raw has not missed a beat they'll shrink the show and we want more 343 00:56:29,340 --> 00:56:33,660 hell at some point during the summer three hours I didn't think it was enough I was like I want 344 00:56:33,660 --> 00:56:38,780 a little bit more I wanted to go longer so three years in a row for me as well man Monday Night Raw 345 00:56:38,780 --> 00:56:45,900 has just been fantastic and the the amazing thing is technically up until we started in January 346 00:56:45,900 --> 00:56:50,460 Monday Night Raw has been the B show for the last few years technically speaking smack now is 347 00:56:50,460 --> 00:56:56,140 supposed to be the A show raw the B show but the B show has been kicking everybody's ass for the 348 00:56:56,140 --> 00:57:01,580 last three years to to that point I try I don't feel like that that exists anymore under triple H's 349 00:57:01,580 --> 00:57:08,300 rain do you know I think when smack down went to Fox they made a concert effort to come put all 350 00:57:08,300 --> 00:57:12,780 their stars on that show but the last few years I mean technically speaking when you look at 351 00:57:12,780 --> 00:57:17,100 you're like oh Roman's been Roman's supposed to be the face of the company he's on smack down then 352 00:57:17,100 --> 00:57:22,620 smack down technically is supposed to be the A show I mean so much like when Cena was always on raw 353 00:57:22,620 --> 00:57:27,020 raw was the A show so I think they've done a much better job of kind of 354 00:57:27,020 --> 00:57:31,740 separate their talent and make it much more balanced but 355 00:57:31,740 --> 00:57:38,460 whatever show Roman is usually honest supposed to be the biggest show that we watch but raw even 356 00:57:38,460 --> 00:57:44,060 the last two years before this year Ross been kicking everybody's ass yeah it's been very very good 357 00:57:44,060 --> 00:57:50,300 and there you go three years in a row Dr. Train I have selected WWE raw and once again we both select 358 00:57:50,300 --> 00:57:55,740 the same show same wrestling promotion for this award ever since we introduced it in 2019 359 00:57:55,740 --> 00:58:02,540 let's recap our SRT awards that we have handed out so far before we get to our final 360 00:58:02,540 --> 00:58:08,300 war the SRT wrestler of the year new story of the year I had Vince McMahon sexual assault and 361 00:58:08,300 --> 00:58:14,540 trafficking allegations Dr. Train at the WWE's deal to move to Rawnton Netflix a breakout star of the 362 00:58:14,540 --> 00:58:18,620 year we both had Solace Akkoa moment of the year I had Cody Rhodes finishing the story at 363 00:58:18,620 --> 00:58:23,420 WrestleMania 40 Dr. Train at Sting's last match of retirement A W revolution event of the year 364 00:58:23,420 --> 00:58:28,540 we both had WrestleMania 40 few to the year we both had CM Punk versus Drew Matt Tire match of the 365 00:58:28,540 --> 00:58:34,220 year both of us had CM Punk versus Drew Matt Tire and Hellosel match from WWE Bad Blood tag team 366 00:58:34,220 --> 00:58:39,100 the year we both had Nathan Frazier and Axiom female wrestler the year we both had Liv Morgan male 367 00:58:39,100 --> 00:58:44,140 wrestler the year I had Cody Rhodes Dr. Trey Drew Matt Tire and Wrestling Promotion the year we both 368 00:58:44,140 --> 00:58:55,260 had WWE Raw and that takes us to our SRT you wrestler of the year this is the MVP award this is 369 00:58:55,260 --> 00:59:03,500 the top award that we hand out each and every year in 2023 we both handed it out to Rio Ripley 370 00:59:03,500 --> 00:59:09,820 in 2022 I handed out to Roman Reigns Dr. Trey handed out to the bloodline in 2021 we both handed 371 00:59:09,820 --> 00:59:18,140 out to Roman Reigns and in 2020 we both handed it out to Drew Matt Tire so Dr. Train now it is time 372 00:59:18,140 --> 00:59:25,180 to hand out the top award the SRT you wrestler of the year let's start with you who is your SRT 373 00:59:25,180 --> 00:59:30,300 you wrestler of the year well just going off process of elimination for me it came down to 374 00:59:30,300 --> 00:59:35,260 Liv Morgan and Drew Matt Tire I think when you look at these two people they both have similar 375 00:59:35,260 --> 00:59:43,980 past this year they both had strong 2023 ending up but I think they kind of came out show more 376 00:59:43,980 --> 00:59:53,420 depth of their characters much more organic kind of crowd reaction but for me Drew's just so 377 00:59:53,420 --> 00:59:59,980 entertaining to watch on his own Liv has Dom she has Rockal she has Judgment Day she has a good 378 00:59:59,980 --> 01:00:06,140 supporting cast around her for the most part the Drew show is Drew it's Drew keeping me entertained 379 01:00:06,140 --> 01:00:12,300 it's Drew being witty Drew being violent all the things that make a great professional wrestler 380 01:00:12,300 --> 01:00:20,860 this to me was Drew McIntyre's best year even better than you know the COVID years so for me 2024 381 01:00:20,860 --> 01:00:26,380 wrestler the year Drew McIntyre so there you go Dr. Trey is 2024 wrestler of the year SRT 382 01:00:26,380 --> 01:00:32,620 the year is Drew McIntyre for me again it came down to Liv Morgan and Cody Rhodes my female male 383 01:00:32,620 --> 01:00:39,100 wrestler of the year and for me it was once again the flag bearer it was the guy that is carrying 384 01:00:39,100 --> 01:00:43,980 the flag of WWE and theoretically carrying the flag of all professional wrestler right now 385 01:00:43,980 --> 01:00:50,780 and that is the American Knight Merrick Cody Rhodes he has been the guy to me what can I say that 386 01:00:50,780 --> 01:00:55,180 I haven't said already about him when I handed out the male wrestler the year he's just the lineage 387 01:00:55,180 --> 01:01:01,980 it's it's gone from Austin to Rock to Cena to Roman Reigns to now Cody Rhodes and I think he's 388 01:01:01,980 --> 01:01:07,660 got to be carrying this company for the next five to ten years and doing it selflessly and doing 389 01:01:07,660 --> 01:01:16,060 it as a desire a want a need to be the top guy so Dr. Trey my 2024 SRT wrestler of the year 390 01:01:16,060 --> 01:01:22,140 is Cody Rhodes and I think both of our selections are pretty damn good and it's been a fun year 391 01:01:22,140 --> 01:01:27,420 and I think this is the perfect way to captivate it off with Cody Rhodes being my wrestler of the 392 01:01:27,420 --> 01:01:32,620 year and Drew McIntyre being yours. Yeah so at least that way people don't think we always agree on 393 01:01:32,620 --> 01:01:37,820 stuff as well but yeah I think you know we kind of talked about it on on last week's show we talked 394 01:01:37,820 --> 01:01:43,900 about it last month like this has just been a really really great year professional wrestling from top 395 01:01:43,900 --> 01:01:47,740 to bottom I don't think there's ever been more depth in professional wrestling than there is right 396 01:01:47,740 --> 01:01:54,460 now everybody has their favorites there's that tribalism still running rampant through the wrestling 397 01:01:54,460 --> 01:01:59,820 community whether you're on team AEW team WWE or you're like me and Jeff where you're just like team 398 01:01:59,820 --> 01:02:06,700 good pro wrestling I don't really care what show it is as long as it's good so when you're looking 399 01:02:06,700 --> 01:02:11,420 at the at the the the the people that want to wars and people that we both had up in the running 400 01:02:11,420 --> 01:02:17,020 just shows how deep pro wrestling really is right now which is good for the future of pro wrestling 401 01:02:17,020 --> 01:02:21,980 as it goes forward. Dr. Tray one thing that stood out for me here and it's going to look like I'm 402 01:02:21,980 --> 01:02:27,340 bashing but let's just talk about it there was only one award handed out to all elite wrestling and 403 01:02:27,340 --> 01:02:32,700 that was your moment of the year when you handed out to Sting's last match and retirement at AEW 404 01:02:32,700 --> 01:02:38,060 revolution does that surprise you at all that out of the both of us in every award show category 405 01:02:38,060 --> 01:02:45,580 that we have we only selected AEW once. Not surprising especially when you if you go back to our 406 01:02:45,580 --> 01:02:51,900 recap show from last week AEW kind of had a pretty down year they had some good moments which you know 407 01:02:51,900 --> 01:02:58,140 I for me the sting thing I mentioned the hangman's were feud the the setting the house of blaze 408 01:02:58,140 --> 01:03:04,460 that's some good moments but really it's just that kind of back and forth where you're like the 409 01:03:04,460 --> 01:03:10,860 start and stop pushes the start and stop streaks you know the consistency of the storytelling 410 01:03:10,860 --> 01:03:16,300 like there's there are some there's some issues they need to work out like tag team to the year 411 01:03:16,300 --> 01:03:23,420 I'm like I mentioned three tag teams for AEW but none of them had that great all 12 month run and it's 412 01:03:23,420 --> 01:03:29,180 just it's just that start and stop aspect to it which frustrates people like you and me. Yeah and this 413 01:03:29,180 --> 01:03:33,820 is like a perfect segue into next week's edition the show when you and I preview a professional 414 01:03:33,820 --> 01:03:40,940 wrestling in 2025 on
