Transcript
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Producer Brad and I are hitting buttons at the same time there, but we are back.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: We traded our cleats for clipboards, but we never left the game.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Welcome back to Cleats and Clipboards, your front row seat to Pennsylvania high school football, brought to you by Sportswire.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Week two is in the books, and the contenders are starting to gain some separation from the pack.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Tonight we react to week two, roll out our updated sports wire rankings, which are in high demand, it seems, and preview a loaded week three across District Two.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: Thank you for our listeners for riding with us.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: If you are just finding us, it's a weekly show, part of the SportsWire family.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: We are in our regular slot now, every Wednesday night, 8 p.m., same rhythm every week.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: As we still continue to get some new listeners on board.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: On my end here, Coach LaMania, Lakeland graduate, former wide receiver, uh semi-pro player, and head coach for the old Scranton Eagles and a couple other teams, minor league uh football news Hall of Fame, currently coaching at Abington Heights, and with me my partner in crime, Coach George Hoannitz.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: He was one nasty defensive back and football player at Valley View, also former head coach of Valley View, NEPA Sports Hall of Fame, and now the head coach at uh Hot Owensdale program.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Former players, now both coaches, on the same side of the microphone.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Coach Hoannitz, how are you doing this week, sir?
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Good dad.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: How are we doing?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: Just trying to trying to get you over that jet lag from that uh great trip you took, right?
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: But we're we're we're still recovering, you know.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: I got back to NEPA and I was like, it's a little chilly here, you know?
- 2:17SPEAKER_01: And then uh Mowdy?
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Well, you probably didn't see the sun when he came back either.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: I I told one of the uh, you know, the bosses over there at Lackawanna College it's a little chilly here.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: They didn't want to hear it, you know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_01: They were uh, I think a little jealous of the Florida trip.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: But it was a good one.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: We'll get into that a little bit of our recap of week two.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: I know you are very busy getting ready for week three, George.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: I look forward to getting into that.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Um, we are gonna start, though, coach, before we get into that week two recap with our player of the week.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Our sportswire player of the week is presented by Hydro Bath because every great performance earns a great recovery.
- 2:52SPEAKER_01: And this week, producer Brad popping it up there quick there, it goes to Wall and Popacks, Eddie Keysendel.
- 2:59SPEAKER_01: This running back and defensive back coach was locked in last week against East Strasbourg South.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: 235 yards on the ground, three touchdowns, and his coach is raving as much about his leadership as the performance.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Coach Iwanis, what do you have to say to that?
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: I know you've seen uh Keysendal play leadership being an important thing for a head coach.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: What's your thoughts on our sports wire player of the week?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: He's a great player.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh obviously, you know, we talked about uh a couple weeks ago when we played Wall and Paul Pack.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: He's a uh multiple year starter for them, uh tough to tackle.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: I know he's a hard worker in the weight room for them, and uh obviously a big leader for them.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: I was uh you know reading about some of his quotes even last week from their win that you know getting his team refocused after a loss to Holmesdale, and uh, you know, that's what you expect from your leaders.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: You want them to do that, and he's uh definitely all that, and he's a big part of their gonna be a big part of their success moving forward.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, coach relies on him a lot.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: And like I said, he's just uh he's an unbelievable player when you see him in uh live and in person.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: Man, as a as a coach, I can appreciate that the performance and backed up by leadership, and that's contagious on a roster, and he has definitely earned our Bath Salts player of the week.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: And let me tell you something.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Not only do the players need recovery, but so do the listeners.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Listeners, you tune in every week, be active in that comment.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: You're like a third co-host for Coach Joanna's and I.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: And this week's fan bath salts player of the week will be Dave Kurtzman, man.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: First one in there, big supporter of the show saying hello, Dave.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: You're gonna connect with Brad offline and he'll hook you up with some bath salts uh and then definitely support our sponsor.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Hydro Bath, we appreciate you.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: And uh again, listeners, comment every week during this segment for a chance to win.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Coach, as we go and look at week two, what happened?
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Uh, there were a lot of statement wins.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, I will say, I'm gonna list off a few of them that I really want to hear your feedback, and you were on the sidelines for one of them there.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Statement wins, we have Dunmore hammered Lackawanna Trail 62-7.
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Uh we expected a big performance there from Dunmore.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Wyoming area answered its week one shoutout with a 47-6 route over Hanover.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Dallas rolled 45-12 over Valley West.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Riverside blanked Holy Cross, prep dominated Trinity 45-7.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: My Lakeland Chiefs handled Lake Lehman 42-22.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: They were some big statement wins.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: And coach, you had one of them there for Honesdale with a big win over East Strasbourg and East Strasbourg North.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: What do you think about uh your team's statement win and some of those other ones I mentioned?
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh I'll I could start with theirs first.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: I just, you know, it's the usual suspects.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: We talked about a little bit last week.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: They have that game experience, uh, big game experience of uh, you know, Dunmore, Lakeland, uh, Wyoming area, um, you know, Abington, like these schools are all teams that just constantly reload.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: Uh they have kids that have been in big games and it and it, you know, it pays dividends, I think, uh, even when you have a little bit of a turnover with seniors graduating.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: So uh not a surprise with all those uh great schools.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: And then uh, you know, we played an East Trowsburg North team with a new coach.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I think the I think they've had a new coach uh every year for about the last four years, so that's tough on the kids, I think.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: And um, you know, made a lot of mistakes early and and teams uh we capitalized, and a lot of teams that can do that have a really good chance of winning games.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, I think when you start to get into week three and moving on, um up front's gonna be a big part of that.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: Like I thought we did a nice job of dominating up front.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: We had uh Bobby McDowell, Landon Burktop, Mason Quigley, uh my two Smiths and Jack Montgomery that just uh did a great job in the game and you're able to put up 50 points because of that.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: Man, the game's definitely won in the trenches, and you know, I appreciate your mention of continuity.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: You know, again, some of these schools where you have a lot of that turnover, it's tough to build that foundation and that team culture.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: And that's where, and I think we talked about a couple episodes ago where, hey, when you get that supportive school board, an athletic director, and a head coach all on the same page, you can really build something special in District 2.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: They were the statement wins, the bounce back wins.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Uh my Abenton Heights Comets, after scoring only three in week one, bounce back on a road trip to Florida, shutout Trinity Prep 35 to nothing.
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Valley View rebounded nicely.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: You called this last week, coach.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, a nice 19-6 win against a good Crestwood team.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Pop Pack answered with a 35-13 win at East Strausburg South.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: Any thoughts on those bounce backs?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: You and I just talked about it off camera before the show.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: I just think physicality plays a big role with all these teams.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, you said the Abington team is much more physical than the team from Florida, and I think uh Valley View's really physical up front.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: Uh so's Crestwood for that matter.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: That's two.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: And that game was close, and that's that's the reason why.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: The physicality, I think, of uh Crestwood, the same thing.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And then uh Wong Paw Pack, same thing.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: They're gonna come downhill, they're gonna hit you in the face, and uh they did a nice job of putting away East Stralsburg South, which the week before had really uh scored 60 or whatever on uh Pitston area.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: So you see a lot of these teams though, I think they'll start settling in, they'll they'll get a little more comfortable, and uh you'll start to see the better teams kind of rising to the top now.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: As a listeners, you want to tune in every week because there's all these you know great nuggets that Coach Hoannets brings.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: You know, we talk about the physicality of the programs.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Delaware Valley traveled to Florida last year.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Again, you you take these trips, it's teams you've never seen before, and you know, proud of our Northeast teams, Delaware Valley, Abbenton Heights really bring a physicality that some of these Florida teams haven't seen.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: Their head coach shared that with Coach Reptius.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: It's like we had we haven't seen that physicality, and it was a big edge for Abenton Heights traveling to Florida.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: And again, Valley View Crestwood, we thought that was going to be a close game last week.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: I think Valley View's defense was a little too much.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: And then there were some thrillers, okay?
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: We had the statement wins, we had the bounce backs, but Montrose edged Susquehanna 21-20 to keep the Bluestone trophy.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: And I know they overcame some adversity in that game as they had some key players injured.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, games we circled, West Scranton and Carbondale went to West 25-20.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: Some really good games there, coach.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I uh, you know, my dad coached the Montrose.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: I went to Montrose until I was a sophomore, uh, until I moved on to Ballet View, and that Susquehanna Montrose game was always a huge game.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: That's uh, you know, they played for that trophy.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: It's always a back and forth thing.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: And and Montrose really hasn't been, you know, they've struggled the last uh probably 10 years with you know numbers and coaches, and uh so it's good to see them start off 2-0.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: And then uh, you know, obviously, you know, big uh big win there for uh West Scranton, I thought, you know, one of their first tests, I thought, with Carbonel.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Carbonel's a good football team back and forth, and uh nice win for Coach Manetti there.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Agreed, and uh a couple other notes of games we talked about last week.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: We had a desperation game of teams needing to win.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: A game flat we flagged went Berwick's way with a 36-17 win over Pitston, with Gavin Galatua scoring twice, including a clutch pick six, Brady Cleaver running for two, Pitston's 0-2, and so is Delaware Valley after a 28-24 heartbreaker at Northampton.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Both losses by a combined five points.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: Coach, is this last year all over again?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: We saw Delaware Valley go 0-3 last season, then turn out a really great season.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: They're not playing bad football.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: It's probably two, three plays in a game that I'm sure they would share would be the difference.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, listen, they're they're playing these games to get battle tested for playoffs and for the league.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Uh obviously, division one is a tough, uh, tough division in the LFC.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: You're gonna have to play North Pocono, gotta play Valley View.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, you're gonna have a who's who kind of in that mix, a lot of non-league and non-conference kind of ones.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: So Keith is gonna have them ready.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: They're gonna uh they play this tough schedule for a reason.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Uh you saw it last year too.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: They they stepped up in the districts as well.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: So uh he'll have them ready.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: And then I thought um Berwick really had a statement win.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: I mean, those guys, you they rushed for 361 yards.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, anytime you could do that, I think in a high school game, especially in a rivalry game there against Pittston, uh, you know, it kind of shows you what they're able to do when they've bounced back from that week one loss to North Pocano.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Hey, I'll even give a shout-out too, there to uh Coach Olsomer there for Del Val.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: When we went to Florida and the KSA staff that ran the trip, his daughter was a member of that Florida staff there working, and she would do her dad proud.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: She was awesome, you know, great work ethic, took care of all the teams there.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: So uh, Coach Olsomer, if you're listening, your your daughter's a heck of a worker, doing a great job out there in Florida.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Uh just give a couple shout-outs, Coach, some stat leaders through two weeks.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I think Cresswood's Jack Jekyll leads the NEPA in rushing with 347 yards.
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: Wilkes Bear's Declan Greger leads in passing, 521 yards, five touchdowns.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: And Riverside's Braden Rose leads in scoring with 42 points.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: So some good performers through the first two weeks.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: We'll keep an eye on that throughout the season.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: And uh I know there's some competitive players there in District 2.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's uh there's a plot, there's a whole bunch of good running backs, I think you see each week.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: A lot of people rushing for over 100 yards, and uh it's gonna be an interesting season.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Like I said, which team I think could be uh the most physical and uh you know stare steer away from injuries, I think is uh gives you every bit of uh chance as anybody else to win each division.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Agreed, coach, and and I think that's building up to one of the favorite listener segments of the show, the updated sportswire rankings here.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: We have our small school top ten.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Uh producer Brad, if you could throw that graphic up there, Coach Juanitz, if you want to go through these rankings and your thoughts, and uh I'll see if I agree or have a challenge flag ready for you.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I uh, you know, obviously the the first uh first three or really the first four, I think, are your uh teams that'll be there all year.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Dunmore's uh very good, Lakeland's very good, prep's very good, and I think Wyoming area uh once they get some guys back from injury, I think they'll be even better than that.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Uh number four ranking, but uh those teams are gonna be there.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Dunmore's gonna play Lakeland, so you're gonna get a good uh picture of that.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And then uh, you know, Scranton Prep plays a bigger schedule, so they're gonna have some tough games coming up too.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: But I just see those four teams as kind of not moving.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: I think they're tough teams, they're gonna be there all year.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Riverside at five, uh, won another game this week.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: A lot of good athletes.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Western Wayne's uh two and oh.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Uh now again, they have a huge game this week at Wall and Paul Pack, um, which we'll talk about later, but I think that'll be a big test for them.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Montrose 2-0 for the first time in years.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, so we moved them up.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Lake Lehman's been playing close games.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: I think they're a really good football team.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: And then uh rounding out with Mid Valley and Susquehanna, I think two teams that are Susquehanna's 0-2, but they've played a tougher, you know, tougher group of schools.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, Mid Valley is one and one.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: They ran the ball real well last week, and I think they'll stay in that mix.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: That's a good mix there.
- 14:00SPEAKER_01: It feels like uh 1995 all over for me here, looking at Dunware and Lakeland in there, some some traditional names.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: Susquehanna is hanging on, and then just a lot of competitive football in between there in those rankings.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: So no challenge flag here, Coach, on the small school top 10.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: But let's hear that big school top 10 and see what you have there.
- 14:18SPEAKER_00: Well, I feel the same way.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: I think with the big schools, um, you know, even looking at some of the teams that lost.
- 14:24SPEAKER_00: So North Polk hasn't launched yet.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Obviously, they'll stay there.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: They're district champs uh until somebody beats them, they'll stay at the top.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: Dallas at two, undefeated, same thing.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Uh, good teams, always in the mix for the district.
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Abington, Valley View, uh Delaware Valley 3-4-5.
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: I I can't knock Delaware Valley for starting 0-2.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: They're playing a great schedule, uh, tough schedule.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: Valley View, same thing.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: They play a team from Allentown week one, uh, that I don't think many teams from around here would end up beating.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: And then uh, same thing with Abington with that tough schedule.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: I think those four are uh you can't take away having a loss just because of the schedule they play.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: Uh Holmes is still at six.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Uh again, undefeated.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, done really well the first two weeks.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Uh big test this week against number one.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Uh Berwick, big bounce back win against Pitston.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Uh West, 2-0.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: Uh again, I have them at eight.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: I don't think they've played a super tough uh large school schedule yet, but right now they're sitting pretty at eight.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: Uh Paul Pack, big bounce back win, and then uh I think Crestwood has the physicality and players uh to be able to round out that top ten, and they'll be in the mix by the end of the year.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: A very competitive group.
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: And I don't say I necessarily disagree the coach of me, but for our listeners, coach, I gotta throw one challenge flag at you here, all right?
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: And you know, you're definitely not biased, so much respect there, you know.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: But Delaware Valley at 0-2, although I agree with you.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, they've had a brutal schedule, two games by less than five points, but maybe they should be a little further in the in the standings and earn their way back up.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: As again, you have a 2-0 Honesdale, but to your credit, you know, the sportswire rankings, you know, we're not tilting them your way, Coach.
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: Uh Wes Granton, you mentioned that 2-0, even though they haven't had the toughest schedule.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Boy, they look electric.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, what's your what's your rebuttal there, Coach?
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: A couple 2-0 teams that are probably thinking they might be a little higher, and then an 0-2 team that's got to get off the schneid.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm just listening, I'm going by past practice.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: Delaware Valley is gonna get into the league, um, and they're gonna they're gonna be very physical, uh, and they're a tough team to beat.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, so uh until some of these teams actually beat them, West Granton, I don't think, is beaten Delaware Valley probably in 10 years.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Uh Holmesdale doesn't play Delaware Valley.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Uh Wall and Paw Pack will play Delaware Valley.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Same thing.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: DV's beating them uh, you know, probably eight out of ten years.
- 16:41SPEAKER_00: Then I I just don't see a lot of these teams being able to uh match up um you know against a team like Delaware Valley, even with two losses.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: And like I said, if Delaware Valley had played two District 2 teams and lost to them, okay.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: But they're playing two teams from out of the area that are uh, you know, kind of tougher opponents, renowned opponents, uh, like I said, and I think Keith does that to get himself ready for the playoffs.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: So uh, you know, until a District 2 team actually beats them, I think they'll uh, you know, you'll you'll see what they're able to do when the actual District 2 schedule kind of pops up.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: I do agree.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: I'll I'll I'll pick up the challenge flag there.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: And you know, I think there's a good message in there.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: You know, you got a 2-0 team, you know, you're reminding them, you know, whether it's Honesdale or West Grant, and there's a long season to play and a tough week three game coming.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: And if you're Dell Val at 0-2, it's hey, we've been here before, you're battle tested, it's gonna pay off later on.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: Let's focus on week three, and that there's a lot of good football to be played.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: So, coach, great job on the rankings there tonight.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna shift to one of our cooler segments here.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Last weekend it was Rob Menazar from Abinton Heights.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: This week, the fit of the week fueled by Fit AF Nutrition, our sportswired team is watching every Friday night for the best game day fit.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: So, high school ballers, if you're out there, listen in, get your drip set there.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Noah Council is this week's fit of the week from the Valley West Spartans.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Man, coach, I see I don't think we have those options when we played.
- 18:07SPEAKER_01: It's it's almost not fair, you know.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: And and I know Noah's lucky there because Coach Rep would not let his guys wear fluorescent green gloves and uh spikes there.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: So he got a little bit more uh leeway there, but Noah is styling and gets the fit of the week.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, when it comes to your own fuel, check out Fit AF Nutrition Meal Prep and use this week code Spartans20 to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Uh Noah, you'll have seven meals coming, just like Robin Azar.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna be even healthier going into week three and four here.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Jordan Glasswood does a great job for Fit of the Week fueled by FITAF Nutrition.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: Coach Dan, you know there's only the PIAA Fashion Police only do so much.
- 18:50SPEAKER_00: Uh you can't wear the bands, you can't wear this, you can't wear that.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: So uh any of these fits of the week, I mean they're they're putting an effort in there because it's it's you can't do anything anymore.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, you see the college games, especially these guys are have their pants rolled up and all the bands around their arms and legs and everything hanging off, and you know, the PIAA doesn't let you do that.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: So to get a fit of the week, you're uh you know, you're doing a pretty good job here.
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Hey, well, shout out Noah Council there for earning that fit of the week for Coach's point.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: It's not easy, but he he did himself a great job there.
- 19:23SPEAKER_01: Now we go to week three preview.
- 19:25SPEAKER_01: As always, we will have featured games and then we'll do a little rapid fire through the rest.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: We do our best to cover every team every week.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: And I will start with two unbeatons.
- 19:38SPEAKER_01: Coach, this one's close to you here.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: North Pocono is the defending District 2 4-A champ and has looked apart with wins 36 to 20 and 35 to 6.
- 19:47SPEAKER_01: Um, your Honesdale team's rolling behind Gabe Duda with 346 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: Turk Acker, we talked about him last week, four touchdowns.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: But on the North Pocono side, Joe Brisky with 213 yards and four touchdowns in a kicking game that's very strong.
- 20:03SPEAKER_01: Special teams wins championships led by Shane Youngblood.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is a true test for you this week.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Who do we like?
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, what's your thoughts there?
- 20:13SPEAKER_01: I mean, you can't predict who you like because that's your school.
- 20:16SPEAKER_01: I could do the predictions here, coach.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: But uh, what's your feel?
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: You know, give the listeners maybe a little bit of a scouting perspective.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: This is uh North Pocono, and again, I'm just I'm basing on looking at some film from last year and from this year.
- 20:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, they are every bit as good, I think, this year as they were last year.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, very physical, uh, big, fast.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, West is, I think, one of the best players in District 2, uh, especially defensively, but he's a he's a uh you know, big game uh hunter as far as the uh he goes on the field.
- 20:49SPEAKER_00: You gotta know where he's at.
- 20:51SPEAKER_00: He's either running the ball, catching a ball, uh picking balls off, running back kicks.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: So he's everywhere.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: He's uh uh like I said, I think he's one of the better players we've had in the area in uh probably the last five years.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: Um and they're good.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: I mean, they no one's beaten them in in District 2 in uh what almost a year and a half now.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: So uh, you know, until somebody beats them, they're they're the top dog and they're showing it and they're tough.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: And you know, that win against Berwick week one is obviously uh you know a statement win for them.
- 21:19SPEAKER_00: And then um, you know, I just my guys uh really haven't been there.
- 21:23SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to tell them this week that if you want to become that kind of program, these are the games you gotta win.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: And you know, we're uh prepping them all week for what they have to do, and uh hopefully they'll come to play on Friday and uh you know show people what we're made of.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: It's set itself up for a very good game, coach.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: And I'm sure our listeners and myself we're definitely all pulling for you.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: We we pick the games every week, so I think until the champ is beat, you go with the champ, and then and I would predict North Pocono, but I know if anybody's gonna have a team ready to upset a champion, it's it's you, coach, and your kids are doing a great job.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna be looking forward.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: To that game and watching it closely.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: 2-2-0 teams with a big showdown Friday night at 7 o'clock.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: That's our spotlight game of the week.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: You won't want to miss it.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: So good luck, coach.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: It's going to be a great one.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Let's go put your butt on and come cheer for the Hornets.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: You got to bring that road crowd there.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: You know, there's definitely going to be a nice crowd at that game.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Keep it in-house here.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: So from your Honesdale Hornets over to the Abington Heights Comets, one and one.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Abington is traveling to Dallas, who's 2-0.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: We're also still on that Friday night slate at 7 o'clock.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Again, a Dallas squad that scored 45 and 42 points.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: Abington's coming off a shutout in Florida.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Coach, what's your thoughts on that Abington versus Dallas game?
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: I think this is going to be a great game.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: This is the one that I kind of had circled just because I think it's interesting.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: You're going to have Abington having to come back from Florida, but I think, you know, the kids will be ready to go.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And then, you know, Dallas, 2-0, they're always right at the top of the mix in 4-A and in uh District 2.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: So, you know, it's at Dallas, which I think is another, they have a big home field advantage.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, with with people there, with having an extra official from the Wyoming Valley Conference there, I think it makes a difference.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: Um, but I I'm I'm gonna go with Abington.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: I think Abington uh will be able to match up with them.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: I think they'll be all right with their skill kids.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Uh the physicality will be matched, and um, you know, I just think, again, I think Abington kids are battle tested.
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, and Dallas really hasn't had a tough game in two weeks.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: And I think, you know, uh Abington could come in and get the I wouldn't even call it an upset, but uh, you know, some people would, but I see Abington winning that game.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Definitely appreciate the vote of confidence.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I can't pick that game as I'm coaching in Abington.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Our buddy Dave Kurtzman in the comments.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: He's he's he's predicting, he's apologizing to both of us this week, coach.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: So I don't I don't know, Dave.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: We'll see what happens there.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: But they it should be a really good game.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: I I I kind of joked with our team, but I'm a little bit serious too.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: That Florida trip, we played in some incredibly hot weather between the varsity game and the junior varsity game.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Our kids, the next two days in Universal had about 25 to 30,000 steps in per day.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: I said, you guys should be this this should be easy from a weather standpoint, a physicality standpoint, is it's gonna be a lot cooler.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: Your conditions, conditioning's really high right now.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: It's the mental game that's gonna be really important for Abington, you know, going on the road to Dallas.
- 24:28SPEAKER_01: So two big games there to start our our slate of covering uh week three.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: And now I will go over to Riverside 2-0, traveling to Lake Lehman one-and-one.
- 24:39SPEAKER_01: Riverside's rolling coach.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: What's your thoughts on this one?
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Well, you gotta be able to contend with Braden Rose.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, last week he had uh 95 yards rushing, two touchdowns, a kickoff return, touchdown, and interception return for touchdown.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: So uh obviously he can do everything.
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: He's like West at uh you know at North Pocono.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: They're two Division I athletes, obviously, and they that shows on a on a Friday night.
- 25:02SPEAKER_00: Um Lake Lehman's good though.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, they've played the last couple teams tough.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: They're doing a nice job running the ball.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Um, I just think the athleticism, though, Riverside is just tough to contain, and uh I see Riverside winning this game at Lake Lehman.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: I'm with you there.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go with the momentum.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: You know, I think they're gonna have a good game plan in place there for Braden Rose.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: You may not stop him, but if you could just contain them, uh they could take the Riverside Vikings to 3-0.
- 25:28SPEAKER_01: So that'll be another good game to watch.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Crestwood at Carbadale, coach, Jake Jackal.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: We talked about him as a as a rushing leader.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Is there an answer for him?
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: Uh this is my only thing with with Crestwood that I think uh gives a lot of teams fits.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: They run that single wing, uh, they'll run that single wing offense.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and it's tough to stop when you haven't seen it.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: And they're physical up front.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: Um, they're gonna run it and run it and run it.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: And when you think they're gonna run it left, they're gonna come back with an inside reverse and run it right.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: So um I just think it'll be a little tough for uh Carbill just because they haven't seen it.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: And I'm just telling you from uh from past years when I coached at Valley View, like the first time we saw that single wing, we had a pretty good team, and they put up about 300 yards of rushing on a pretty good defense.
- 26:15SPEAKER_00: So it's tough to stop.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: Um they get their quarterback back.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: I think he was suspended uh the last game.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: So I think he's back for this game.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: So I think it'll be uh I think it'll be a close game because I think Carbonell runs the ball well, but I just think that offense will give them some fit.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: So uh I think Cresswood will win this game.
- 26:33SPEAKER_01: I'm with you on that one.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: Cresswood's one loss was to Wes Grant.
- 26:37SPEAKER_01: We see Doug in the chat there saying, watch out for West.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: So they know we know they lost to a very good program there.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna give Cresswood the nudge there to go to two and one.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: His two teams are really a lot better being two and one than one and two.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: So we'll see how that shakes out.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: Wyoming area at Berwick Friday night.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: Berwick coming off a bounce back win over Pittston.
- 26:57SPEAKER_01: Brady Cleaver, 307 yards rushing.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: Coach, thoughts on this game?
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um first of all, it's at Berwick.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: It's a miserable place to play if you've ever been there, and I've played there a lot, so uh it's tough when you're not used to that.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Now, Wyoming area kids will be used to it, but it's still uh uh, you know, the sirens going off, the uh the bombs going off in air.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: So it's a pretty it's a great place to watch a game.
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: But uh Wyoming area too, Kapecny had a move to quarterback.
- 27:26SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming Gravine's still out hurt, so that takes the receiver away, who's a big playmaker for them.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Um, and Berwick, I think, has got it rolling.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: They haven't figured out.
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think that win last week will obviously give them a positive mindset.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna take Berwick in this one uh over Wyoming area.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: I'm with you again there.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: I hate to keep agreeing, but I just I love Berwick at home.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: And coach, to take me back a little bit.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: Give me give me one Valley View Berwick story.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Like, yeah, I was a few years behind you, and man, I I just remember those really good Valley View teams, as that's where I started, and I remember those great Berwick teams, and those Valley View Berwick games were some of the best.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: So we played them in the playoffs, uh, 1991, it would have been.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: Uh Ron Paulos was our quarterback, obviously.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: He was the number one recruit in the country uh at that time.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: He was gonna he ended up going to Notre Dame.
- 28:16SPEAKER_00: But uh, I mean, I could just tell you they were big, physical.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: Um, that place used to just be packed loud.
- 28:23SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, there's like I said, there's uh sirens going off, they shoot off fireworks during the game, the fans were screaming at you when you come out.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: At that time, you were in a little tiny little box of uh a locker room that they had.
- 28:36SPEAKER_00: Uh and it's just uh I mean it's a great atmosphere.
- 28:38SPEAKER_00: I used to um, you know, as I started coach at Valley View, they'd ask us each year, are there any teams you want to play?
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: And I always asked to play Berwick.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: I wanted my kids to go there.
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: It's a state championship atmosphere.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: They have the stuff, you know, the signs up about being national champs and state champs and all the uh hoopla and lore of that program.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: And uh I was lucky enough, I I didn't lose to them at all at Valley View.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: We beat them, I think, eight times, the eight times uh we played them at home and uh and uh and away.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: But um man, what a great.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: I always thought it was a great experience for the kids just to play in that environment.
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: And uh any team that says you want to play, go to Berwick and play a game, man.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: It's the one of the best places in northeastern Pennsylvania to play a football game.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Spoken like a true competitor wanting that game on the schedule, and not many teams could say they they beat him that many times.
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: So, you know, some great success there, but it's just great history back then, and you know, they're getting some momentum here again now.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a tough one from Wyoming area, but a great experience and a great game that we expect this weekend.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Shifting from Berwick to Valley View, as we talked about those old games, Valley View now travels to Wilkes Bear.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Valley View's one and one, fresh off a 19-6 win.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Do they keep rolling, Coach?
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just think, again, I just think they're they're very physical.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, they've played, you know, some some really good teams to start the year.
- 29:58SPEAKER_00: So they're they're they're actually, I think, battle tested already.
- 30:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, they're able to move some guys around, they've had some injuries.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: They'll get their uh quarterback who started the first game, uh Caleb Brown back this week.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: So uh they're getting some guys healthy again.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Colin Dempsey's done a great job for them filling in, and I'm sure he'll play a little bit.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: Um Valley View, I don't know if this name has come up, but all I've heard in the Valley for the last two weeks is Cash Rowe.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Uh Cash Rowe is someone who just came out this year.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: He's playing receiver, and all I've heard about was the dynamic uh catches he's been making for them, uh going over kids one-handed.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: So uh you're gonna hear that name a lot.
- 30:36SPEAKER_00: He's he's I think he's got 100 yards receiving in two straight games, so or near near that.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: And uh I just think they have a lot of firepower.
- 30:43SPEAKER_00: Uh Wilkesbury, I don't think even on Wilkesbury's years when they've had really good teams, they haven't been able to beat Valley View.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: So uh I think Valley View is uh a tough one here and a tough matchup for Wilkesbury, even at Wilkesbury.
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: Being a passing guy and a former wide receiver, I would love to watch this game and both teams with a nice connection there.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: You mentioned Dempsey DeRoe, and then on Wilkesbury's side, Declan Greger and Deacon Eisenbach.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Um, they're some good players, but I think Valley View has more pieces in place, and I'm not going against them two weeks in a row.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: So I'm with you with Valley View this week.
- 31:14SPEAKER_01: And then we're going to my stomping grounds here, old stomping grounds anyway.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: Lackawanna Trail, 0-2 to Lakeland, who's 2-0.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: Lakeland, a 2-A marquee.
- 31:23SPEAKER_01: Jackson Potius doing his things through the air and the ground.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Coach, thoughts there?
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Well, I told you at the beginning of the year, I'd be a little nervous if I'd have moved somebody.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: When my quarterback goes down, I got to move a receiver, and he has done nothing but been awesome for the first two weeks.
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Uh last week, 70 yards rushing and two touchdowns, 186 yards passing and two touchdowns.
- 31:43SPEAKER_00: Um, so he's legit.
- 31:45SPEAKER_00: He gives him an instant weapon.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Um, Lackawanna Trail has struggled.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, I talked to Coach Jervis a little bit this week.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: He's playing a lot of young kids because he had a lot of kids lost to graduation.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: So he's in the same boat I was in last year.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: We played a lot of freshmen, sophomores at home still, and you're gonna take your licks against some of these teams that have a lot of guys back.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: So uh it's gonna be the same thing here.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: I think um, you know, I I don't think Lakeland will try to run up a score, but I just don't think uh Lackawanna Trail will have the people to be able to handle all Lakeland's athletes and do the things they need to do to be able to stop that.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: And I think for those young guys there at Lackawanna Trail, Coach Jervis will develop that program and get them back.
- 32:24SPEAKER_01: Hopefully they can bounce back and be a little more competitive.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: They had a tough one at Dunmore last week.
- 32:29SPEAKER_01: And then for Lakeland, kudos to their coaching staff with that quarterback transition and Pocha's showing the game's not too big for him at quarterback.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: He's he's kept Lakeland on track.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: So the Chiefs will look to go to 3-0.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: And coach, we're gonna rapid fire through the rest of the district here.
- 32:44SPEAKER_01: There's still a lot of good football to cover.
- 32:46SPEAKER_01: Valley West, 0-2 at West Grant in 2-0.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Does West keep rolling?
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: I think West does.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: They have uh those Sastre boys have been awesome.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Uh 123 yards rushing, uh, a couple touchdowns receiving, um, Austin, 198 yards passing, three touchdowns.
- 33:04SPEAKER_00: Colbert, uh, four receptions, 119 yards and a touchdown reception.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: So they're spreading the ball around.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, a lot of good athletes, and I just think it'll be too much for Valley West.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: Tunkanic 0-2, Nanacoke 0-2 a first-win game.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Someone has to get a coach.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: What do you think?
- 33:21SPEAKER_00: This game might be 50 to 49.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna give the the nod, I think, to Tunkanic.
- 33:27SPEAKER_00: I just think they're they're a little more balanced uh than Nanokoke.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, they have uh a couple different quarterbacks through for touchdowns last week.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, they have uh a couple running backs that have receptions for touchdowns, or a couple receivers that have receptions, receiving touchdowns.
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: So I think they'll be just tough to beat.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: Uh Nanokoke has a couple kids that they've kind of spread the ball to, but I just see Tunkanic uh winning this game at Nanokoke.
- 33:53SPEAKER_01: Western Wayne 2-0 at Wall and Pawpak 1-1.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Unbeaten Wildcats.
- 33:59SPEAKER_00: Do they stay that way?
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: I don't think so.
- 34:01SPEAKER_00: I think Wall and Pau Pack's gonna be too physical.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Uh Keysendal will be too a lot for them to handle.
- 34:06SPEAKER_00: Um, they're super athletic.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Uh Western Wayne, I don't think it's seen anybody like this yet for the first two weeks.
- 34:13SPEAKER_00: Um, and I just think it's gonna be tough to win at Wall and Paw Pack uh with them kind of hitting their stride now after a big win over East Stroud himself last week.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: Old Forge 0-2 at Mid Valley one and one.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: I think we talked last week about Coach Schubak looking to get that first win.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I don't think he'll get it this week.
- 34:31SPEAKER_00: Mid-valley, same thing they figured out at halftime last week, just run the football.
- 34:35SPEAKER_00: Uh, and they ran it very well.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: Uh Pezanowski, 111 yards, rushing, three touchdowns.
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, they're still throwing the ball a little bit, but uh I think their physicality up front will be a little too much for Old Forge.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: Should be a good one.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: How about Pitston area 0-2?
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: They're trying to search for a win, but so is Hannah over area.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: We have another another game where one of these teams is trying to get off the mat and get a win.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is a tough one.
- 35:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think Pitston area lost Santino Capitano last week uh to an injury, so I don't know if he'll be back, their quarterback, and he's been their Mr.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Everything on offense.
- 35:08SPEAKER_00: Um Lepresto's their other guy.
- 35:10SPEAKER_00: He had an 84-yard touchdown return last week.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: Um, Hanover's gonna throw the ball.
- 35:15SPEAKER_00: So again, I think this is gonna come down to who can be a little more physical.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: Now, again, I think Pittston has the pedigree.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna go with Pitston, but I think this game will be close and there's a chance Hanover wins.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: But I think Pittston with their uh big guys up front and I think they have enough athletes kind of match up.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: Montrose 2-0 filling their schedule with Coleman Voltec.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: The Bluestone trophy holders are quietly 2-0 and favored at home, Coach.
- 35:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm gonna take Montrose.
- 35:42SPEAKER_00: I don't know anything about uh the Voltec school, but I'm gonna take Montrose here to go to 3-0.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Uh Sawyer Akeem, 122 yards, rushing, a touchdown, stroller, quarterback, uh passing touchdowns, so they're balanced.
- 35:54SPEAKER_00: Uh long gone are the days where they line up in the power eye and throw the ball once a game.
- 35:58SPEAKER_00: So uh they're a little more balanced, and I see them winning this game over Botec.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: They got a little dinged up last week, so this might be a good game to get healthy, get the you know, bounce back uh and keep the momentum rolling at 3-0.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: Scrant and 0-2, but they got a program here in Amos.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: I hope I think I pronounced that wrong.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: But 0-2.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: Road test, two winless teams, who gets it?
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: I think Emmaus will win this game.
- 36:23SPEAKER_00: They played a tough schedule uh with some teams down by them to start the year, but the game's been low scoring.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, that means they gotta be, I'm assuming they're pretty good on defense.
- 36:32SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, Scranton's had a rough goal with the first two weeks, I think, stopping people.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: So um, you know, McCandrew and Manning have kind of been the hookup there.
- 36:40SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I think Emmaus, just because of their schedule and kind of the uh physicality they play with, uh, win this game.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: Could we run this 0-2 team?
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: We got to get some wins here.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: Could Hazleton get one versus Pocono Mountain West, who's one and one?
- 36:54SPEAKER_00: I think this will be an interesting game too.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: Uh Hazleton had uh Lantigua, 144 yards rushing and touchdown, 220 yards passing, and two touchdowns.
- 37:03SPEAKER_00: Um Pocono Mountain West beat Scranton uh early in the season.
- 37:07SPEAKER_00: So again, I I hate to pick these games because I really don't know much about either team.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: Um, but I'm gonna pick uh Hazleton here just because uh who they've played the first two weeks, and I think it'll help them get ready for a little bigger opponent with Pocono Mountain West.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: And then we got another school that we don't know much about, Fairfield Prep at Scranton Prep.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Thoughts there, prep fresh off a 45-7 win.
- 37:31SPEAKER_00: This will be an interesting game.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I think uh I did a little research on Fairfield Prep.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: They're the number four team in Connecticut.
- 37:37SPEAKER_00: Uh they were 10 and 3 last year, playoff team.
- 37:40SPEAKER_00: So uh, and they have a lot of guys coming back.
- 37:42SPEAKER_00: So Connecticut football is pretty good.
- 37:44SPEAKER_00: I know uh a lot more kids have been going to D1 programs from Connecticut than in years past.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: So um I think prep will have their hands full.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: Again, I don't know a whole lot about it, uh, about the team, but um Ollie Swingle, uh kid who used to play at Ballybeat, I know very well, has done a great job for them at quarterback, 164 yards passing and a touchdown, and McPartland is tough to defend.
- 38:05SPEAKER_00: So um I'm gonna go with the uh the home uh town school.
- 38:09SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with prep.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I think it'll be a battle for them against Fairfield Prep.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: It's a good week for them to be home.
- 38:15SPEAKER_01: And East Strasburg South is traveling to Delaware Valley.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Does the defending 5-A champ coach get that first W?
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: I think Delaware Valley will win this week.
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: And again, I think it's a uh it's a style difference here.
- 38:27SPEAKER_00: East Stralsburg South spread out, throw the ball a lot.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: DV's gonna come right at you.
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: Um and I just don't think it's anything that East Strasburg South struggled last week against Wallon Paul Pack, who runs a similar kind of uh downhill uh run game, a little bit of passing.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: So um I see again, I see Delaware Valley win this game at Delaware Valley.
- 38:46SPEAKER_00: They've done a nice job of throwing the ball and running the ball.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: These final two games, Coach, shift to Saturday.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: 1 p.m.
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: Dunmore 2-0 travels to Holy Cross 0-2.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: We know they've had issues with numbers this year.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: I imagine Coach you're thinking Dunmore would another big win.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm uh I don't, and I don't mean this with any disrespect, but this should have been another week that Holy Cross kind of gave up the forfeit and said, uh, you know, we'll get ready kind of for next week.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: Um they're just not gonna have the numbers.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Dunmore has uh way too many athletes and are way too physical.
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: Don't disagree there at all.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Last one coach, Saturday at 7 o'clock, Susquehanna 0-2 travels to Holy Redeemer 0-2.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: We have another one of those games where one team's looking to get a win and get their season on track.
- 39:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is a toss-up game uh for me.
- 39:33SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take Holy Redeemer uh just because it's at Redeemer.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think they do a nice job passing, which I think Susquehanna is gonna have a little bit of trouble with.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: Uh, but again, Susquehanna uh they run a much different offense than they did years ago, too, and they used to run the uh kind of like a double wing and wishbone and kind of all the things they did.
- 39:52SPEAKER_00: Um but I'm gonna go with Holy Redeemer here.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: Um Brady McDermott is just uh great quarterback in District 2, and he throws the ball to Josh Grahoski at 89 yards receiving.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: I think there'll be a little much for uh Susquehanna on Saturday.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: Great job covering all those games, coach.
- 40:09SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna shift from football to boxing real quick here.
- 40:12SPEAKER_01: A quick heads up for fight fans.
- 40:14SPEAKER_01: Boxing is back at Mohegan Sun, Pennsylvania on Saturday, October 10th with Mohegan Fall Fists.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Kurt Scoby headlines the card.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Local favorite, Anthony Muta is back in action.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: And the night will also feature USBA Bantamway Championship fights at 118 pounds.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: It's a full night of amateur and professional boxing.
- 40:35SPEAKER_01: Doors open at 5, amateurs start at 5 30, and the pros at 7.
- 40:40SPEAKER_01: Tickets start at$60 and are available at Dooley's Pub and Eatery in Old Forge or through Northeast Boxing's Facebook page.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: Big Time Boxing right here in NEPA October 10th at Mohegan's Sun Arena.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: And a shout out to my boy Ryan Wilchak there.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: I know he's from West Granton.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: He fights over at um Weston Field House there, trained by Irish Gene Reed in the past.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Um Ryan's a tough dude there, so I'm glad he's getting back in the ring.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: And again, always great to support our local fighters and see some good boxing here in our area.
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: And I have to tell you, I have to tell you this story, and people would, I don't know if people find this funny or not, but uh at Valley View, we have a uh a former alum, Joe Munley, uh Judge Munley's uh brother, who is uh big into the boxing world.
- 41:26SPEAKER_00: He's been with Tyson, uh like you named the boxer, he's been with them.
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: So we at Valley View, while I was there, every year he would bring in a boxer.
- 41:34SPEAKER_00: So we've had uh Vinny Pazienza, Sugar Ray Robinson, uh, you know, he had Mitch Green uh up for things.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: So we've we'd always get, and it was awesome to see these guys up close with their hands are about as big as the boxing gloves.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: Uh and you know, they come in with their, you know, some of them would bring their belts in and talk to the team about uh hard work and and how the boxing world kind of uh blends in with football and things they're able to do.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: But um if you ever get a chance, and I know you can here to go see some of these guys.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: It's amazing how athletic they are, how big they are, how fast they are with things.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: And uh, you know, they love contact sports.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: They're big, uh most of them are big football fans, and uh, I would tell everybody try to get to this fight, and uh you might see uh one at Valley View coming up, who knows?
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 42:19SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: I get I have the boxing glove on my necklace here.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: It was my dad's.
- 42:23SPEAKER_01: He was friends with Joe Mundley, so I know exactly who you're talking about there and met Mike Tyson before.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: And I've been to the boxing hall of fame.
- 42:30SPEAKER_01: If I knew they were coming to Valley View there, coach, I might have, you know, joined the staff or something there.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: You had me up boxing, so that's that's great that you exposed the kids to that.
- 42:38SPEAKER_01: Vinny Pazienza, name you mentioned there.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: I got to meet him before, so I could talk boxing all night there, but definitely catch the local fights there.
- 42:46SPEAKER_01: Glad they've teamed up uh Sportswire supporting them.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: And uh, for scores, schedules, rankings, and full coverage all week, please head to sportswire.com for the latest.
