- 0:19Speaker 1: I am joined as always by my co host, my companion,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Mike cam Padre, my BFF Professional Better Simon Hunter, l
- 0:27Speaker 1: O soymon, Hello, Chad.
- 0:29Speaker 2: My life will never be the same because of the
- 0:31Speaker 2: one thing in this world, Gold Zone. I don't know
- 0:33Speaker 2: if you experienced the new Gold Zone on Mbcpeacock, but
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm addicted. I Lily wake up. I turn on a volcano,
- 0:39Speaker 2: which I know you don't know volcano ways, but young
- 0:41Speaker 2: kids know what it is. I go around the apartment,
- 0:43Speaker 2: I turn on all the TVs to the same channel
- 0:45Speaker 2: to gold put it on and it's just ten hours
- 0:48Speaker 2: of non stop action. I'm addicted to it. I can't
- 0:51Speaker 2: believe in a week we have to go back to
- 0:53Speaker 2: normal life. Chad.
- 0:54Speaker 1: I am so in love with the Gold Zone. It
- 0:58Speaker 1: ate up my entire weekend. At one point, my kid
- 1:02Speaker 1: walked into the living room when I was watching it,
- 1:06Speaker 1: and he goes, am I hearing things? Or is that
- 1:09Speaker 1: Scott Hanson? And I go, dude, Christmas has come early.
- 1:15Speaker 1: Because NBC is so smart, they gave us the Gold
- 1:18Speaker 1: Zone with Scott Hanson and also Andrew Ceciliano, who I
- 1:22Speaker 1: thought to me, that's who I watched on Red Zone
- 1:26Speaker 1: before Scott Hanson. I love Ceciliano, He's a fucking best.
- 1:30Speaker 1: So to be getting them in Gold Zone, dude, I'm
- 1:33Speaker 1: with you one hundred percent. The only thing better than
- 1:37Speaker 1: Gold Zone is talking about the NFC North. For today's
- 1:42Speaker 1: third installment in our annual NFL Division Preview series, we
- 1:46Speaker 1: discuss the NFC North and we are joined by a
- 1:50Speaker 1: very special guest. He's a longtime ESPN insider, NFL expert,
- 1:57Speaker 1: the recently elected president of the Malik Neighbors Fan Club,
- 2:03Speaker 1: also nearly my neighbor in central Connecticut. He is Feiliates.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Good afternoon, gentlemen, our guests, good morning, depending on what
- 2:11Speaker 3: time people are listening to this podcast. Yeah, hey, good
- 2:14Speaker 3: day somebody out there. I feel a ton of pressure
- 2:17Speaker 3: because I too am addicted to the Gold Zone, and
- 2:20Speaker 3: I too must stand for both Scott Hansen and Andrew Siciliano,
- 2:24Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, people are thinking about those
- 2:26Speaker 3: two gentlemen, which makes people very excited and makes people
- 2:30Speaker 3: feel a certain way that is experienced normally on Sundays
- 2:34Speaker 3: from one until about seven thirty pm e Eastern Time
- 2:37Speaker 3: for eighteen glorious Sundays during the year. They've been getting
- 2:40Speaker 3: that during the middle of July and August, I feel
- 2:43Speaker 3: like I better bring it or else I'm just going
- 2:45Speaker 3: to be an afterthought to those that have been fixated
- 2:48Speaker 3: instead on Red Zone and the upcoming season that we have.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The way you set that up just now, how people
- 2:54Speaker 1: are feeling certain things for Scott Hansen and Andrew Siciliano.
- 2:58Speaker 1: That's how Simon usually sets things up when he is
- 3:00Speaker 1: trying to get me and Matt Mitchell, our producer nervous
- 3:03Speaker 1: that he is going to wade and do some territory
- 3:05Speaker 1: that Matt Mitchell is immediately going to have to start bleeping.
- 3:09Speaker 1: So nice job.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Get the PG on this show. Don't you best to
- 3:13Speaker 3: keep it that way the rest.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Of the way exactly, Although if we're talking about the
- 3:16Speaker 1: NFC North, that might get ugly because there's going to
- 3:18Speaker 1: be a lot of opinions. Me as a Chicago Bears fan,
- 3:21Speaker 1: listeners of the show know I'm going to come with
- 3:24Speaker 1: some surprising takes on the Bears today based on a
- 3:27Speaker 1: lot of the research we've been doing. As a reminder,
- 3:30Speaker 1: the favorite podcast is presented by Bet three six five.

- 4:41Speaker 2: All right, I want to do a really quick field story. Field.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I'm an og Fantasy Focus fan, So if you don't
- 4:49Speaker 2: know the show Field Yates is an amazing show with
- 4:52Speaker 2: our guy dop Over at ESPN. They crushed it every
- 4:54Speaker 2: week talking fantacy football. And when he came on, I
- 4:57Speaker 2: mean this is years ago. There was a guy named
- 4:59Speaker 2: Nate rap who's a weasel, and it was Matthew Berry.
- 5:02Speaker 2: And again I wasn't the biggest fantasy football guy back
- 5:05Speaker 2: in the day. I was all about baseball and we
- 5:08Speaker 2: wouldn't believe this Matthew Berry. That's what his specialty used
- 5:10Speaker 2: to be. Like, he was a down to miss Rodi.
- 5:13Speaker 2: He was amazing at baseball. And the worst days of
- 5:16Speaker 2: my life was when Field Yates came on and had
- 5:19Speaker 2: replaced Nate Rabbits a little. Did I know I'd eventually
- 5:23Speaker 2: loved this field yet it's just because he came. I
- 5:25Speaker 2: think me and Fielder around the same age. And just
- 5:27Speaker 2: like Vanning Fantasy Focused fan, I was just like they
- 5:30Speaker 2: took away my weasel. They took away my weasel for
- 5:33Speaker 2: this handsome man with an amazing smile named Field Yates.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And I'll tell you when I finally broke and really
- 5:40Speaker 2: started really liking you, Fields, Eastpin did a weird thing
- 5:42Speaker 2: where they hypnotized all you guys. Do you remember this
- 5:44Speaker 2: when they hypnotized you?
- 5:45Speaker 3: Of course I do, Yeah, of course, dude.
- 5:47Speaker 2: That was my favorite experience of my life when they
- 5:50Speaker 2: hypnotized you. And not like that you were a robot
- 5:53Speaker 2: when he hypnotized you, but it was it was hilarious.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You were so into it that you were literally full
- 5:58Speaker 2: on hypnotize. And I would love to hear your experience
- 6:01Speaker 2: on what happened when you got hypnotized. You remember that
- 6:03Speaker 2: and you come out and people are like, dude, what
- 6:05Speaker 2: just happened to you on TV?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:08Speaker 3: So, so a couple of things here. First of all,
- 6:10Speaker 3: Nate has nobody to blame but himself. Nate Rabbits is
- 6:12Speaker 3: just he keeps promoting himself, right, Nate, Who's like he's
- 6:15Speaker 3: a weasel influential figure. Yes, he's just he's a big boss. Now,
- 6:19Speaker 3: he doesn't I aim to, you know, waste an hour
- 6:21Speaker 3: of his day talking about fantasy football with peons like
- 6:24Speaker 3: myself and Daniel Lops, Fina mel and Mike Clay as well.
- 6:28Speaker 3: He's now this big wig. Like, I send Nate an
- 6:30Speaker 3: email and I'm fortunate if he writes me back. He's
- 6:32Speaker 3: got so many more important people in his life.
- 6:34Speaker 2: That's a joke.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Nate is very responsive. But yeah, I mean it was
- 6:37Speaker 3: actually like a little daunting stepping into that seed at
- 6:40Speaker 3: the beginning.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Oh were you were you like twenty five, twenty six?
- 6:43Speaker 3: It was probably yeah, because this is probably like eight
- 6:45Speaker 3: or nine, maybe ten seasons. Now, I would have been nervous.
- 6:49Speaker 2: That's crazy. Yeah.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Well, it's also just like they have this. Here's what
- 6:52Speaker 3: I told people is that that first season, I said,
- 6:55Speaker 3: if the show does anything other than grow, it's my fault, right,
- 6:58Speaker 3: because it's nothing had changed for me, right, So I
- 7:02Speaker 3: remember thinking, I actually, at the time ESPN, I was
- 7:04Speaker 3: living in Massachusetts, and the ESPN said, you don't actually
- 7:07Speaker 3: have to come down here and to the show, like,
- 7:10Speaker 3: we're totally comfortable with you doing it remote. And I
- 7:14Speaker 3: said to them, you know what, I don't feel comfortable
- 7:16Speaker 3: doing it remote with this is pre pandemic. We're like
- 7:18Speaker 3: doing something remote. It was like a far different experience
- 7:21Speaker 3: than where it is now. I went and moved in
- 7:24Speaker 3: how about this for a life experience. I went and
- 7:27Speaker 3: moved in with a friends friends of mine who were
- 7:31Speaker 3: engaged and going through the wedding planning process. This was
- 7:34Speaker 3: well before I was dating my now wife or anywhere
- 7:38Speaker 3: close to being engaged myself. So like, I'm sitting there
- 7:40Speaker 3: consulting on like, you know, table settings and you know,
- 7:44Speaker 3: first dance songs, like all kinds of stuff that I
- 7:48Speaker 3: wouldn't be bothered with again for like a decade. But yeah,
- 7:50Speaker 3: that first season was a little bit daunting in that regard.
- 7:53Speaker 3: And then to sort of just fast forward I think
- 7:55Speaker 3: it was probably three or four years later to that
- 7:57Speaker 3: hypnotist scene. Not seeing that experience. We did the Fantasy
- 8:00Speaker 3: Football Marathon every year. We've got one coming around the
- 8:02Speaker 3: corner here August nineteenth and twentieth on ESPN. And a
- 8:06Speaker 3: producer who was doing one of the shows, because the marathon,
- 8:10Speaker 3: obviously being twenty four plus hours, is going to require
- 8:13Speaker 3: lots of different hands on deck, He's like, Hey, my
- 8:14Speaker 3: cousin is a hypnotist down in like southern Connecticut. Who
- 8:18Speaker 3: would anybody here be gained to do it? And I
- 8:20Speaker 3: was like, you know, first of all, I was at
- 8:22Speaker 3: the point of my career, which I don't ever want
- 8:24Speaker 3: to leave entirely, but everything they threw my way, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes,
- 8:28Speaker 3: so I agreed to do it, of course. And then
- 8:31Speaker 3: I would say this, it's not just that it's somebody
- 8:34Speaker 3: who I haven't met before, but also somebody who haven't
- 8:36Speaker 3: met before that it's related to a friend of mine
- 8:38Speaker 3: and a colleague of mind. I wanted to make sure
- 8:40Speaker 3: that I bought into the experience. I wasn't going to
- 8:43Speaker 3: bot in of the yayah you got to buy, you know,
- 8:45Speaker 3: And so there are probably some things that I would
- 8:48Speaker 3: prime value, like being hypnotized for again in a future life,
- 8:52Speaker 3: you know, Like I've heard of friends that have snapped
- 8:54Speaker 3: bad habits by being hypnotized. If so, I have yet
- 8:58Speaker 3: to try that, but if I do encounter one, or
- 9:01Speaker 3: if I persist with one, that I currently have a
- 9:03Speaker 3: hypnotist available for hire, please reach out to me, because
- 9:07Speaker 3: I might be the right clients review.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So it's funny, Simon, you don't even know this. You
- 9:14Speaker 1: just mentioned Daniel Dopp, who obviously is a regular on
- 9:18Speaker 1: the show and has gone on to a great career
- 9:19Speaker 1: at ESPN and is on air. Daniel Dopp was the
- 9:24Speaker 1: original producer of my gambling podcast on ESPN. How about
- 9:31Speaker 1: that when I left ESPN and he would come on
- 9:34Speaker 1: the show. When I left ESPN to start Action Network,
- 9:39Speaker 1: Daniel I offered Daniel Dopp the job to be lead
- 9:45Speaker 1: audio producer at the Action Network. Matt Matcheell is not
- 9:48Speaker 1: a part of the conversation dat I didn't even He
- 9:51Speaker 1: wasn't like he had He was still in school, he
- 9:53Speaker 1: was getting his graduate degree. Dopp was going to come
- 9:58Speaker 1: ESPN offered a new deal to be on air and
- 10:02Speaker 1: do some of the producing that he was doing and
- 10:05Speaker 1: eventually transitioned to being on air full time. And so
- 10:08Speaker 1: that was too good of a deal for him. He
- 10:09Speaker 1: took it. I love Top you stay in touch. He's amazing,
- 10:13Speaker 1: He's got a great career going.
- 10:14Speaker 2: He's awesome, and he was just at the time, he
- 10:17Speaker 2: was different than what was in the fantasy space. I thought,
- 10:20Speaker 2: that's why I was like, sure, he was a smart,
- 10:22Speaker 2: smart move by you spent putting him in that spot.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Totally smart. Number one, number two, I know you guys
- 10:29Speaker 1: are shitting on Nate. And he played a great role
- 10:31Speaker 1: on the show.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I Love Nate.
- 10:32Speaker 1: Also also a good friend. He was just a good friend.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Of mine and people should know, like he's actually a
- 10:36Speaker 1: good guy in real life, he's the best. But he
- 10:39Speaker 1: had a great role on the show. It would not
- 10:42Speaker 1: surprise me at all if he big timed Field.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Just the irony of all irony is that Nate was
- 10:49Speaker 3: one of the very first people. And I'm gonna use
- 10:52Speaker 3: I guess an somewhat odd term invested me. Like when
- 10:54Speaker 3: I got to ESPN, I was doing just basically I
- 10:57Speaker 3: was doing. I was freelancing for that Massa Chusets. I
- 11:01Speaker 3: was helping them with some Patriots content, and Nate, you know,
- 11:03Speaker 3: this really successful person who has gone on to even
- 11:06Speaker 3: more success, was like, I think there might be something
- 11:09Speaker 3: for you, but candidly, we need you to do stuff
- 11:12Speaker 3: beyond like Mike Grace, who still covers the Patriots at
- 11:14Speaker 3: the highest of levels for ESPN. Was like, Mike's good
- 11:18Speaker 3: on his own right, Like, we don't need you in
- 11:21Speaker 3: that capacity, we need you elsewhere. So he was one
- 11:23Speaker 3: of the he was the early adopter of of of me.
- 11:26Speaker 3: So I have you know, I love Nate. We get
- 11:28Speaker 3: along great. We see each other often on campus. And
- 11:32Speaker 3: if he hears this, hopefully you know he continues to
- 11:37Speaker 3: further rise up the ranks and feel further and further
- 11:40Speaker 3: away from the fantasy focused university and all the people
- 11:43Speaker 3: that still yearn for the days of date rabbits.
- 11:45Speaker 1: The weasel, we'll keep, we'll keep the stuff about. We
- 11:48Speaker 1: are one hundred percent cutting this stuff. He deserves no flowers.
- 11:53Speaker 1: All right, here's how we're going to do this. We're
- 11:55Speaker 1: going to preview the NFC North today. For those listening, reminder,
- 12:00Speaker 1: I will focus on three very specific stats or components
- 12:05Speaker 1: of each team, because you should know that when betters
- 12:08Speaker 1: think about these things and think about these teams, they
- 12:10Speaker 1: are oftentimes looking at success at the line of scrimmage,
- 12:14Speaker 1: offensive line, defensive line. So to me, the most important
- 12:17Speaker 1: stats to think about the rankings for these two teams,
- 12:20Speaker 1: because that is the heartbeat and the foundation of how
- 12:23Speaker 1: these teams are going to succeed or not succeed this year,
- 12:26Speaker 1: which led to a lot of different conclusions than I
- 12:29Speaker 1: think I would have otherwise had if I was eyeballing
- 12:32Speaker 1: this first team up. And a reminder, every single year,
- 12:37Speaker 1: for nineteen of the past twenty one years, ninety one
- 12:40Speaker 1: percent of the years an NFL team has gone from
- 12:43Speaker 1: worst to first in its division. In the NFC North.
- 12:46Speaker 1: Last year, the Lions won the division last place. Doub
- 12:52Speaker 1: Bears be do Bears. Lions use Lions right now. They're
- 12:58Speaker 1: oz to win the Super Bowl twelve to one, win
- 13:00Speaker 1: the division plus one fifty. Their season win total is
- 13:03Speaker 1: at ten and a half. Their strength of schedule field
- 13:11Speaker 1: that'll come to you after this twelfth artist. Their O
- 13:14Speaker 1: line ranking number one by a mile. This is according
- 13:18Speaker 1: to Pro Football Focus. Pinney Sewell number one rated offensive
- 13:22Speaker 1: lineman overall. Frank ragnow number one rated center. They lost
- 13:27Speaker 1: Jonah Jackson, but actually improved by signing the guy.
- 13:33Speaker 3: From the Ravens, Hevin Zeitler.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah, Hevin Zeler, right, So they got better on the
- 13:37Speaker 1: offensive line, and their D line ranking is fourth because
- 13:41Speaker 1: Aiden Hutchinson is Elite grated out a top six pass rusher.
- 13:45Speaker 1: His one hundred and one QB pressures second to Mike
- 13:48Speaker 1: ca Parsons. Last year they added DJ Reader, who was
- 13:51Speaker 1: a bull for the Bengals. To me, and we talked
- 13:54Speaker 1: about this last year. Simon Alim McNeil, who now was
- 13:57Speaker 1: in the news because he got in that fight with
- 14:00Speaker 1: Daniel Jones at practice this week. Seventh best interior defender
- 14:03Speaker 1: and he was a problem. Like when they didn't have
- 14:05Speaker 1: him last year, they were not the same team. I
- 14:10Speaker 1: really wanted to bet on the Lions regressing. I got
- 14:13Speaker 1: back to basis, looked at their offensive defensive line and thought,
- 14:16Speaker 1: maybe not Field.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I like you over there. But it's going to
- 14:22Speaker 3: sound incongruent to some of the thoughts that I have
- 14:24Speaker 3: about the division as a whole. Part of what impressed
- 14:26Speaker 3: me for the Lions last season is that very quickly
- 14:29Speaker 3: after Week one, specifically, remember that they go to Kansas
- 14:32Speaker 3: City beat the Chiefs. There's no Travis Kelce in that game,
- 14:35Speaker 3: but it was still a convincing win by the Lions
- 14:38Speaker 3: on the road against the defending champs, and they quickly
- 14:42Speaker 3: went from being the hunter to the hunted, right like
- 14:44Speaker 3: that stamped them as a legitimate contender after one week.
- 14:48Speaker 3: They ended up losing Week two in this crazy overtime
- 14:51Speaker 3: game to the Seahawks, and then they go on and
- 14:53Speaker 3: have this great season. This team, I don't think is
- 14:56Speaker 3: concerned by expectations, which is something that there are other
- 14:59Speaker 3: teams that quickly risen up the ranks and I think
- 15:01Speaker 3: they're going to have to deal with And there are
- 15:04Speaker 3: some that I'm very confident in like the Houston Texans,
- 15:07Speaker 3: will see how they handle all the pressure. I think
- 15:10Speaker 3: it'll go pretty well. But there are also cases of
- 15:12Speaker 3: teams who all of a sudden, you have a different
- 15:14Speaker 3: level of expectation and it ends up manifesting itself in
- 15:18Speaker 3: more losses than it does more dom whinant wins. But
- 15:21Speaker 3: the Lions so good offensively. What's amazing about Detroit offensively
- 15:25Speaker 3: is that after Amana Saint Brown, is there a wide
- 15:29Speaker 3: receiver that scares you on this offense, at least based
- 15:32Speaker 3: off what he has accomplished at this point in his career,
- 15:35Speaker 3: I would argue not really. Jamis and Williams could certainly
- 15:38Speaker 3: get there. He was the twelfth pick in the draft
- 15:40Speaker 3: just a couple of years ago, but between scambling, suspension,
- 15:43Speaker 3: being hurt coming into the NFL, and just a relatively
- 15:47Speaker 3: modest role, has not yet established himself in that way.
- 15:50Speaker 3: So it's not like the Lions have like lost something
- 15:53Speaker 3: this offseason that's going to be really difficult for them
- 15:55Speaker 3: to replace. I think they probably top to bottom are
- 15:59Speaker 3: a better ross. The division I think is better as
- 16:02Speaker 3: well this year compared to where it was last year.
- 16:04Speaker 3: But I'm still optimistic. An alliance.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Hello Detroit you die, then, yeah, I'm right there with you.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Both of you guys. It feels like we like to
- 16:20Speaker 2: be different, but this is not the time to be
- 16:21Speaker 2: different here. This is boring. And we talked about it
- 16:24Speaker 2: months ago that I had them as my third highest
- 16:26Speaker 2: graded team on my system. So people really don't understand why.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I think Chad has broke it down pretty simple there.
- 16:31Speaker 2: They have one of the best offensive lines in all football,
- 16:33Speaker 2: one of the best defensive lines of football, and then
- 16:35Speaker 2: throw it in the fact they're bringing back Ben Jons.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Why I think is one of the best minds in
- 16:38Speaker 2: all football. It's just it's all there. The conmunity on offense,
- 16:42Speaker 2: it's so important where so many teams are switching coordinators constantly,
- 16:44Speaker 2: where it's like no golf is. This is more comfortable
- 16:48Speaker 2: than golf has ever been in his career. It's more
- 16:49Speaker 2: comfortib they ever was. With McVeigh, he believes himself, he's
- 16:52Speaker 2: confident himself, he's making checks the offensive line, and you
- 16:55Speaker 2: go through and break down their film last year. The
- 16:57Speaker 2: thing I love so much about their offense cordinator is
- 16:59Speaker 2: the fact that he can see what we all see,
- 17:01Speaker 2: which is you know, all on st Brown's one of
- 17:03Speaker 2: their best players, so they're going to force feed him
- 17:05Speaker 2: when they need to. He quickly adjusted when he realized
- 17:07Speaker 2: Sam Laporta is just as important, and he designed so
- 17:10Speaker 2: many plays, and if you go through and break it down,
- 17:13Speaker 2: a lot of the places he stole was from Kansas City,
- 17:15Speaker 2: and it's like he's not trying to reevent the wheel.
- 17:17Speaker 2: He just realized, Oh, we have a unicorn here, and
- 17:20Speaker 2: I can just take these plays that have worked for
- 17:22Speaker 2: years with Travis Kelcey and you know, kind of fit
- 17:24Speaker 2: the end of our offenser and it really did work.
- 17:26Speaker 2: And that's the thing with this team. It's like Field
- 17:28Speaker 2: just said it the over ten and a half, I'll
- 17:30Speaker 2: take it like it's minus one thirty. So it's got
- 17:32Speaker 2: a little bit of juice to it. But I have
- 17:34Speaker 2: no mind paying that them as their favorite in this division.
- 17:36Speaker 2: They should be like them. The fact they're not minus
- 17:39Speaker 2: one ten, to me, that means there's value there. Plus
- 17:41Speaker 2: they're plus one fifty. I'll take that value just because
- 17:44Speaker 2: people do believe in a team. We're gonna talk about
- 17:45Speaker 2: a little bit of green Bay, so I am getting
- 17:47Speaker 2: a plus number just because green Bay is the anchor
- 17:49Speaker 2: in this division. Right now, they're the new sexy fun team.
- 17:52Speaker 2: So to me, I'm getting a free free points here, free,
- 17:55Speaker 2: a free you know, nice bed here on this Lion's
- 17:58Speaker 2: team that should be closer to eleven and a half,
- 18:01Speaker 2: and I think they've adjusted too much. Were Green Bay.
- 18:03Speaker 2: They actually played the lines really well last year, Like
- 18:06Speaker 2: if you go back and watch that Thanksgiving game, that's
- 18:08Speaker 2: what I think, you know, Barnwell talked about this Lion's
- 18:11Speaker 2: team as great as they perceived last year. Barmeo said
- 18:14Speaker 2: it they had won a lot of coin flip games,
- 18:15Speaker 2: like they had games where, you know, if it wasn't
- 18:18Speaker 2: going right, they could get blown out. I think they
- 18:20Speaker 2: made those fixes to their defense. Chat they really did
- 18:22Speaker 2: try to attack the secondary just like the Eagles did. Right,
- 18:25Speaker 2: they couldn't stop anyone thrown in the middle of the field,
- 18:27Speaker 2: just like the Eagles couldn't last year. I think Detroit
- 18:29Speaker 2: knew that and that's the position that tried to attack.
- 18:31Speaker 2: So I'm gonna get benefit of the dovalt to a
- 18:33Speaker 2: team that kept all their coaches and their offense is
- 18:35Speaker 2: only get better because the two rookies they drafted last
- 18:37Speaker 2: year and Gibbs and Laporta, they're only going to be
- 18:40Speaker 2: better this year. So to me, all arrows points up
- 18:42Speaker 2: to this Detroit team that this is the year. If
- 18:44Speaker 2: they don't win it this year, Ben Johnson is going
- 18:46Speaker 2: to be there next year. I really do believe they'll
- 18:48Speaker 2: move on. This has got to be the year for
- 18:50Speaker 2: Detroit finally finally break through at least to make it
- 18:52Speaker 2: to the NFC Championship Game and then maybe a Super Bowl.
- 18:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I was. I was surprised when I was doing
- 18:58Speaker 1: the research here how much I ended up liking the
- 19:03Speaker 1: Lions because, Simon, we've been talking about the Packers and
- 19:06Speaker 1: we're going to get to them next. We've been talking
- 19:08Speaker 1: about the Packers as the team that we thought there
- 19:12Speaker 1: might be more value on. And then I see how
- 19:15Speaker 1: dominant the Lions are in the places that matter the
- 19:17Speaker 1: most offensively and defensively in the line of scrimmage. And
- 19:21Speaker 1: the Lions are at plus one fifty. Are you fucking
- 19:23Speaker 1: kidding me? Yeah, Like, of course we're going to bit
- 19:26Speaker 1: the Lions at plus one fifty. They should be closer
- 19:29Speaker 1: to plus one hundred minus one ten, like you said.
- 19:31Speaker 1: So that's number one. Number two, Jared Goff, don't forget
- 19:37Speaker 1: and feel I want your take on golf as a
- 19:39Speaker 1: quarterback and where you sort of see him within the
- 19:42Speaker 1: entire context of the NFL, because you are thinking about
- 19:45Speaker 1: this NonStop from a QB perspective. But Jared Goff is
- 19:50Speaker 1: just straight baller against the spread. The most profitable quarterback
- 19:56Speaker 1: against the spread in Week one over the past twenty years,
- 20:00Speaker 1: Jared Goff seven to zero against the spread. In openers,
- 20:06Speaker 1: Jared Goff indoors thirty five and seventeen against the spread,
- 20:10Speaker 1: twenty five and nine the past two season, past three
- 20:13Speaker 1: seasons thirty six, thirty five and two against the spread outdoors.
- 20:18Speaker 1: For what it's worth, the Lions have thirteen indoor games
- 20:23Speaker 1: this year, plus a game in Dallas in which, depending
- 20:25Speaker 1: on the weather in the fall, could be indoors field.
- 20:32Speaker 1: We're gonna have to talk about Jordan Love, but give
- 20:35Speaker 1: me a Jared Goff take. Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 3: And by the way, those outdoor games include an early
- 20:38Speaker 3: November game in Green Bay. It could be cold, but
- 20:41Speaker 3: it's not going to be most likely frigid, and then
- 20:43Speaker 3: a late December game in San Francisco, which, while they
- 20:47Speaker 3: play on grass, December and San Francisco, as you guys know,
- 20:50Speaker 3: could be a fairly moderate climate Goff is so exceptional
- 20:54Speaker 3: within the confines of what Detroit has asked him to do.
- 20:59Speaker 3: Jared Goff, I don't lose too much sleep over like
- 21:02Speaker 3: debating which quarterback is two or three or four or five.
- 21:05Speaker 3: I tend to look at quarterbacks in tiers buckets. There's
- 21:09Speaker 3: the very elite tier, maybe it's a one man tier
- 21:11Speaker 3: with Patrick Maholmes, and then that second tier of elite
- 21:14Speaker 3: signal callers. There is an eventual tier, whether it's Tier two, three, four,
- 21:17Speaker 3: somewhere in that range that I would say represents players
- 21:21Speaker 3: that are above the quarterback Mendoza line. I think Jared
- 21:24Speaker 3: Goff is appropriately above that quarterback Mendoza ligne, which is
- 21:27Speaker 3: that I don't think Jared Goff is going to be
- 21:29Speaker 3: the player that's going to single handedly lean carry a
- 21:32Speaker 3: team towards a deep playoff run. But I do think
- 21:35Speaker 3: Jared Goff, with the right pieces around him, can highly
- 21:38Speaker 3: can operate a system at a high level. And that's
- 21:41Speaker 3: exactly what Detroit has done with the pieces they have
- 21:43Speaker 3: placed around him. That great offensive line that Chad referenced
- 21:46Speaker 3: and this pretty intriguing offensive system run by Ben Johnson.
- 21:50Speaker 3: So the contract this offseason was no surprise to me.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I think it was a totally reasonable measure for Detroit
- 21:57Speaker 3: to take, and I am a general pro Jared Goff guy.
- 22:03Speaker 1: The Lions the past three years the best ATS record
- 22:09Speaker 1: since the Patriots in two thousand and sixteen. In fact,
- 22:14Speaker 1: they are one, two three, top seven in the past
- 22:21Speaker 1: twenty years. Patriots in two thousand and three to two
- 22:25Speaker 1: thousand and five seventy one percent, Chargers two thousand and
- 22:30Speaker 1: four to two thousand and six sixty nine percent, Patriots
- 22:33Speaker 1: sixty nine percent sixteen to eighteen, Minnesota sixty nine percent,
- 22:38Speaker 1: sixty seven, sixty nine percent twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, Carolina
- 22:45Speaker 1: sixty seven percent, ninety four to ninety six, and then
- 22:50Speaker 1: the Detroit Lions. So a really good team the past
- 22:54Speaker 1: three years. And if I would say, bet regression at
- 22:58Speaker 1: your own peril, because they are good enough in the
- 23:01Speaker 1: areas that you need to be good to continue to
- 23:04Speaker 1: maintain success. They are not just an edge talent player team.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Green Bay nineteen to one to win the Super Bowl
- 23:12Speaker 1: plus two ten to win the Division over nine and
- 23:15Speaker 1: a half. Fourteenth, hardest schedule, offensive line ranking also middle
- 23:20Speaker 1: of the road fourteenth, defensive line ranking eleventh. I do
- 23:24Speaker 1: think there's potential with this defensive line, Like Rashaan Garry
- 23:28Speaker 1: is great, had his injuries, this use issues, so we
- 23:31Speaker 1: don't know that could be a higher number based on
- 23:34Speaker 1: one dominant player Devonte Wyatt, you know, Carl Brooks have potential. Honestly,
- 23:41Speaker 1: I think the biggest difference for their this defense, Simon
- 23:45Speaker 1: is Jeff Haffley, who quit as the head coach at
- 23:48Speaker 1: Boston College College Sports was going said, I am out
- 23:54Speaker 1: of here changing the defense from three four hundred Joe
- 23:56Speaker 1: Berry the past three seasons to a four to three.
- 24:00Speaker 1: This will be a much better defense. I don't know
- 24:02Speaker 1: that the preseason rankings reflect the potential of this defense.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the same old tune though, Chad. We've been
- 24:10Speaker 2: hearing this since bred farvdays. I mean every year you
- 24:15Speaker 2: hear that, you know, like all the ones and twos
- 24:17Speaker 2: they have on defense, all the first round, second round
- 24:19Speaker 2: picks they have on their defense, and every year they go, well,
- 24:21Speaker 2: it must be the coordinator. We'll bringing a new guy
- 24:23Speaker 2: for a couple of years, and it's just never really
- 24:25Speaker 2: panned out, right, I Mean, I still can't believe they
- 24:27Speaker 2: only have one ring to show for those Aaron Rodger years.
- 24:30Speaker 2: I mean, it really is mind blowing when you think
- 24:32Speaker 2: of the talent level.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I blame McCarthy. I think it's make I honestly, I think.
- 24:36Speaker 3: It's Brady and Mahomes and I'll explain that in a second.
- 24:39Speaker 1: But it's also right. It's also it's also Aaron Rodgers,
- 24:42Speaker 1: like he might have been too arrogant to acquiesce to
- 24:47Speaker 1: some of the things that needed to be done. I
- 24:48Speaker 1: don't want to go into tangent. I want to talk
- 24:49Speaker 1: about this team. Nine and a half is a win
- 24:52Speaker 1: total plus two ten as the division.
- 24:53Speaker 2: But you know there was just criminate to it like that.
- 24:55Speaker 2: One of our stupidest bets we've ever won in our
- 24:57Speaker 2: lives chat was we had the forty nine ers and a
- 25:00Speaker 2: plus number against Aaron Rodgers and we won it on
- 25:02Speaker 2: a block punt in like the fourth quarter, in which
- 25:04Speaker 2: a game that Green Bay's defense dominated the fort y
- 25:07Speaker 2: Aras offense. Fast forward to I think it was two
- 25:10Speaker 2: years later, the Fortyniners ran for like three hundred yards
- 25:12Speaker 2: against that greens Bay's defense right in the playoffs. It's
- 25:15Speaker 2: like it just never synced up with that Green Bay
- 25:17Speaker 2: team when their offense had it their defense and advice versas.
- 25:20Speaker 2: But the most interesting conversation about this team this year
- 25:23Speaker 2: is the fact that professionals are so split, Like I'm
- 25:26Speaker 2: talking guys that are betting down you know, six figures
- 25:29Speaker 2: big money right now on this Green Bay team because
- 25:31Speaker 2: they do believe in Jordan Love and what they saw.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And I'm just having a really hard time getting there, Chad,
- 25:37Speaker 2: because I want to believe because the film is unbelievable,
- 25:40Speaker 2: but it is the smallest of small samples, and it
- 25:43Speaker 2: was so perfect. I mean, he was flawless, pressure in
- 25:47Speaker 2: his face, he moved without even thinking about it outside
- 25:50Speaker 2: the pocket, throwing fifty yard bombs right down the scene
- 25:52Speaker 2: to guys right in stride. It was like, who is
- 25:55Speaker 2: this man? Like, I mean again, we had an offensive
- 25:57Speaker 2: tackle who played with him and pra this for years,
- 26:00Speaker 2: and he said, we never saw that in practice. He
- 26:02Speaker 2: came in our podcast talked about it, and it's just like, okay,
- 26:05Speaker 2: if that's there is saying you never saw that in practice.
- 26:07Speaker 2: They didn't know right that they had to restructure his
- 26:10Speaker 2: deal for that feature option, because even the team was like,
- 26:12Speaker 2: we really don't know what Jordan Love is. They quickly
- 26:14Speaker 2: realized this dude's a gamer, and I think Lafloor realized
- 26:17Speaker 2: that as well, because he really opened up the playbook
- 26:19Speaker 2: the second half of the year and that's when it
- 26:21Speaker 2: all started working out. So that's why I want to
- 26:23Speaker 2: be hard on here, being like, you have to fade
- 26:25Speaker 2: this team regression and regression regression, which I think most
- 26:28Speaker 2: common people think that way, But the tools are all there.
- 26:32Speaker 2: They have this incredible young group wide receivers that we
- 26:34Speaker 2: all just love, especially in the fantasy football community. It's
- 26:37Speaker 2: like you could debate for hours who you think is
- 26:39Speaker 2: going to be the number one receiver on this team,
- 26:40Speaker 2: like everyone has throwing an opinion at the end of
- 26:43Speaker 2: the day. I said it last year. I took a
- 26:45Speaker 2: lot of shit from Green Bay fans about it. Jordan
- 26:47Speaker 2: loved for them to make the playoffs. I said it,
- 26:48Speaker 2: he had to be a Pro Bowler, and I said,
- 26:50Speaker 2: I just I couldn't bet on him being a Pro bowler.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Little did I know he was going to be a
- 26:54Speaker 2: Pro Bowl and they were going to sneak in that
- 26:55Speaker 2: last seed. And it's like he had to play perfect again.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Eighteen touchdowns, win interception the end of the season, like
- 27:01Speaker 2: you just we had never seen anything like that. With
- 27:03Speaker 2: a guy who making his first four year as a starter,
- 27:05Speaker 2: so I get where people are at on this. My
- 27:07Speaker 2: position has not changed though. Chat as much as I
- 27:09Speaker 2: want to talk myself into take on their over, I
- 27:12Speaker 2: just can't do it. I've taken their under, especially now
- 27:14Speaker 2: it's at plus one fifty plus one forty and a
- 27:16Speaker 2: lot of books the under a minus nine and a half.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I think they're right there. Nine wins in this division. Again,
- 27:22Speaker 2: the Bears are not going to be a walk over.
- 27:23Speaker 2: Two to zero win for this Green Bay team. I
- 27:25Speaker 2: think they split it, and I do have the lines
- 27:28Speaker 2: as well, giving them a better game than they did
- 27:30Speaker 2: in Thanksgiving. So my view of it is just Green Bay.
- 27:33Speaker 2: They had a really benefit of the schedule down the
- 27:35Speaker 2: stretch last year. This year we already talked about it.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Their schedule is much harder. I just I can't go
- 27:39Speaker 2: to the public care. I can't take this over. But
- 27:41Speaker 2: I see why people are doing it, just because it's
- 27:44Speaker 2: all there, like the piece is the coaching, it's all
- 27:46Speaker 2: there for them to be great this year. It's just
- 27:49Speaker 2: I need to see it more from Jordan Love and
- 27:51Speaker 2: then I'll put my money behind it. Before Right now,
- 27:53Speaker 2: I'm happy to be the contrarion here and take their
- 27:55Speaker 2: under field.
- 27:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna come to you in a sec. I just
- 27:58Speaker 1: wanted to put some context here because I am shocked, Simon.
- 28:03Speaker 1: There were three of the Packers and the Lions, and
- 28:06Speaker 1: we are aligned that the Packers, or that the Lions
- 28:08Speaker 1: over ten and a half and the Lions plus one
- 28:11Speaker 1: fifty are the better values in this division, and that
- 28:14Speaker 1: we have more confidence in those bets than we do
- 28:17Speaker 1: in the Packers at plus two to ten and the
- 28:18Speaker 1: Packers over nine and a half. Because if before I
- 28:21Speaker 1: started doing the research, if you had send to me
- 28:22Speaker 1: two weeks ago we were gonna go this way, I
- 28:25Speaker 1: would have been like, no way, Like there's too much regression,
- 28:28Speaker 1: too much hype for the Lions. I do have some
- 28:30Speaker 1: stats that after field goes.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I mean, barbol did scare the shitt me when he
- 28:33Speaker 2: gave us allose stats about the Troy I'm not gonna lie.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I do want to give some stats about Matt Lafleur
- 28:39Speaker 1: and his success, because he'd be an amazing is amazing field.
- 28:42Speaker 1: Jordan love Mendoza line quarterback, even though he's even though
- 28:48Speaker 1: he's getting you know, Lebron James money.
- 28:53Speaker 3: Way above the Mendoza line way way above, and I'll
- 28:56Speaker 3: say this, Simon was smart and mentioning the fantas love
- 29:00Speaker 3: for the Packers wide receivers. It's almost like but it's
- 29:03Speaker 3: hard because they all could be values. But there's no
- 29:06Speaker 3: way that all four of their top receivers end up
- 29:09Speaker 3: being values. Like inevitably, one or two will rise and
- 29:12Speaker 3: one or two will fade. But what I will say
- 29:15Speaker 3: is that every time I think about, like which Packers
- 29:17Speaker 3: receiver do I like the most, which Packers tight end
- 29:20Speaker 3: do I like the most? Or how confident am I
- 29:22Speaker 3: in this reshaped and very very good offensive line, I
- 29:25Speaker 3: keep coming back and saying to myself, rather than worrying
- 29:28Speaker 3: about which Packers receiver I like the most or which
- 29:32Speaker 3: Packers tight ut I like the most, maybe I focus
- 29:35Speaker 3: on the possibility. And Chad, you can remove your headphones
- 29:37Speaker 3: for a second if you'd like the Jordan Love was
- 29:40Speaker 3: a dark horse MVP candidate this year. Oh my place
- 29:44Speaker 3: for this player to potentially be an NFL MVP not
- 29:48Speaker 3: my pick, but a dark horse MVP candidate, Jordan Love.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Here are some stats about Matt Lafleur. Okay that I
- 29:55Speaker 1: didn't realize. Okay, it was Matt Lafleur and Aaron Rodgers,
- 29:59Speaker 1: and Matt Flora looks brilliant because Aaron Rodgers was brilliant.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And then I think in Aaron Rodgers' last couple of years,
- 30:07Speaker 1: he did things that Matt Lafleur told him to do,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and he played better than he had in sort of
- 30:11Speaker 1: earlier years, right because he was on a downward trend.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Last year was the first year in which we were
- 30:17Speaker 1: Matt Lafleoor was proving what a good coach he is
- 30:21Speaker 1: no matter who's on the field, and we were blown
- 30:23Speaker 1: away by what he did with Jordan Love. Since getting
- 30:26Speaker 1: the job, he's fifty three and thirty seven against the spread,
- 30:29Speaker 1: second most profitable coach against the spread behind just Dan
- 30:34Speaker 1: Campbell of the Lions. He is an underdog in the Packers'
- 30:39Speaker 1: first game in Brazil. Matt Lafleur's Packers had been underdogs
- 30:43Speaker 1: thirty two times. He's covered twenty two of those by
- 30:45Speaker 1: an average of four points a game. In the first
- 30:49Speaker 1: three weeks of the regular season, before anyone is able
- 30:52Speaker 1: to make adjustments, Matt Lafloor thirteen and two against against
- 30:59Speaker 1: the spread. So we do like Matt Lafleur and also
- 31:02Speaker 1: think about this after they opened against the Eagles in Brazil,
- 31:06Speaker 1: Colts at home, Titans on the road, Vikings at home,
- 31:10Speaker 1: Cardinals at home. This team like is going to get
- 31:13Speaker 1: off to a very hot start, which makes me think, Simon,
- 31:18Speaker 1: if the Lions falter a little bit, it's going to
- 31:21Speaker 1: be time to buy back into the Lions even more.
- 31:24Speaker 2: I like that.
- 31:25Speaker 1: H There you go, all right, guys, Chicago Bears, we're
- 31:31Speaker 1: still live.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Just as for for those out there watching us live,
- 31:33Speaker 3: we just wanted to acknowledge you and thank you for yes,
- 31:36Speaker 3: thank you through that very clumsy thank you.
- 31:42Speaker 1: We're doing We're doing video in the digital video era.
- 31:47Speaker 1: This is what's going to happen.
- 31:50Speaker 2: I didn't know we're alive either. Thank god I didn't
- 31:52Speaker 2: make a bad joke that.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Thought it, which means all that stuff about Nate Ravits
- 31:59Speaker 1: ends up staying in.
- 31:59Speaker 2: It for Unfortunately.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Chicago Bears thirty five to one to win the Super
- 32:05Speaker 1: Bowl plus two sixty five to win the division. Season
- 32:09Speaker 1: win total is eight and a half. Strength of schedule. Again,
- 32:13Speaker 1: strength of schedule is based on projections of season win
- 32:18Speaker 1: totals by odds makers Chicago in the upcoming season, Chicago
- 32:23Speaker 1: has the third easiest schedule, third easiest schedule, which is
- 32:29Speaker 1: going to make their collapse all the more painful for
- 32:34Speaker 1: Chicago Bears fans. O Lion rank according to Pro Football Focus,
- 32:37Speaker 1: eleventh Tevin Jenkins at guard has become an anchor on
- 32:39Speaker 1: this offensive line. I would not have expected that after
- 32:42Speaker 1: he had a very slow start to his career. Top
- 32:44Speaker 1: five guard in the latter half of the season. This
- 32:46Speaker 1: team generally was great. Darnell Wright first round pick. Everyone
- 32:51Speaker 1: was like, what last year? He turned out great. I
- 32:55Speaker 1: think he's headed in the right direction. They're blocking efficiency
- 32:59Speaker 1: in the last half of the year was top ten
- 33:03Speaker 1: in the NFL, top half of the NFL. I mean
- 33:06Speaker 1: the problem is the defensive line. Montest Sweat their twenty
- 33:08Speaker 1: seventh ranked Montest Wett was great when he joined midway
- 33:12Speaker 1: through the year. Completely changed the defense, made them much
- 33:15Speaker 1: better front to back. The Bears had to get better
- 33:18Speaker 1: in so many spots. They needed an edge rudger, they
- 33:22Speaker 1: needed to help the offensive line. They needed to get
- 33:24Speaker 1: the quarterback. They needed to get the quarterback and receiver.
- 33:26Speaker 1: They did the right things to me by improving the
- 33:30Speaker 1: offensive line. Drafting Roma Dunze, you got to give him
- 33:34Speaker 1: what he needs because the window is so short that
- 33:37Speaker 1: d line is going to be a problem. And then
- 33:39Speaker 1: there's history, which we're going to talk about. But first field,
- 33:42Speaker 1: where'st my bubble on the Bears?
- 33:45Speaker 3: I so I think there are ways that we can
- 33:50Speaker 3: maybe speak out of both sides of them mouth as
- 33:52Speaker 3: it pertains to the Chicago Bears. This team's going to improve,
- 33:54Speaker 3: I think like quite a bit. And while Kayla Williams
- 33:57Speaker 3: is getting a ton of hype, I think sometimes we
- 34:01Speaker 3: are even ignoring, like what the potential extreme is here
- 34:04Speaker 3: for KILEB Williams, which is to b c J. Stroud
- 34:07Speaker 3: and be a quarterback that butts into the top five, six,
- 34:11Speaker 3: seven in the entire NFL right away. Strouded that last year.
- 34:15Speaker 3: Obviously that's possible for KILEB Williams, extremely bullish on the
- 34:19Speaker 3: player coming out of USC. To me, the clear cut
- 34:22Speaker 3: number one quarterback prospect, number one overall prospects in this
- 34:26Speaker 3: past two year's draft was Caleb Williams. I also am
- 34:30Speaker 3: going to be hesitant in just making the positive case
- 34:34Speaker 3: for all four teams in division, and I've already done
- 34:35Speaker 3: so with two teams, which means that you can't totally
- 34:39Speaker 3: be all in on four, So I think the Bears
- 34:42Speaker 3: take some steps forward. I also think that this is
- 34:44Speaker 3: a team that might come up just the hairshy of
- 34:47Speaker 3: the playoffs, which in the NFC I think could be
- 34:51Speaker 3: a little easier than the AFC to get to. But
- 34:53Speaker 3: I think I stepped forward for the Bear to like
- 34:55Speaker 3: eight or nine wins is very much in play without
- 34:58Speaker 3: it also including a trip to the postseason. And that's
- 35:02Speaker 3: where I'm at. Is that reasonable or no? Are you
- 35:04Speaker 3: mad at me?
- 35:05Speaker 1: We okay, no, No, It's totally reasonable. And look there's
- 35:10Speaker 1: I'm like already game planning my Thursday night on August,
- 35:16Speaker 1: you know, this Thursday when the Bears Hard Knocks premiere
- 35:21Speaker 1: at night Thursday.
- 35:23Speaker 3: Thursday night.
- 35:25Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm planning a freaking party. But I'm looking
- 35:29Speaker 1: down at I'm looking down at my phone right now
- 35:31Speaker 1: because I want to find the latest odds for MVP
- 35:35Speaker 1: and look for Kayleb Williams, who right now is fifty
- 35:39Speaker 1: to one to an MVP. Okay, these would be the
- 35:45Speaker 1: shortest odds for any rookie in the last fifteen years.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Let me give you some of the names on this list,
- 35:54Speaker 1: and you will say to yourself, oh my God, this
- 35:57Speaker 1: guy is screwed right. Trey Lance was one hundred and
- 36:01Speaker 1: one twenty one, Joe Burrow one hundred to one, Okay
- 36:05Speaker 1: to one hundred to one, Herbert one hundred to one.
- 36:07Speaker 1: It's gonna get ugly after this. Leonard Fournette one hundred
- 36:10Speaker 1: to one. Kyler Murray was eighty to one, Mac Jones
- 36:18Speaker 1: was eighty to one. Melvin Gordon in twenty fifteen seventy
- 36:22Speaker 1: five to one. The Bears are minus one ten to
- 36:26Speaker 1: make the playoffs. In the last fifteen years, Chicago has
- 36:29Speaker 1: had minus oided to make the playoffs three times and
- 36:31Speaker 1: missed all three times. Simon, I could go on, pay Simon,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I could go on, But we got to walk away
- 36:40Speaker 1: from this Bears team.
- 36:42Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, I'm the grim Reaper in comes to
- 36:44Speaker 2: this Bears team. In the hype, we had on a
- 36:48Speaker 2: guy from Chicago, a radio host, and he was Danny Perkins. Yeah,
- 36:52Speaker 2: he's my favorite classic Chicago guy where he's just blind
- 36:56Speaker 2: to the truth. I like, I feel like I stabbed
- 36:58Speaker 2: the horror. I told him the joke of Chicago's that's
- 37:00Speaker 2: where qbs go to die and he was just like, oh,
- 37:02Speaker 2: that's not true. And in the weather and it's like,
- 37:05Speaker 2: you know, the weather excuse doesn't work when in Green Bay,
- 37:07Speaker 2: Cleveland and Buffalo of all had guys that threw over
- 37:09Speaker 2: four thousand yards. It's just they've never had a guy
- 37:12Speaker 2: like Williams. And Williams's the breaker of all these streaks
- 37:15Speaker 2: they've had, Like he is the guy that we expect
- 37:17Speaker 2: that will change the history books for Chicago. It's if
- 37:20Speaker 2: he would have came out after his freshman year of Oklahoma,
- 37:23Speaker 2: he would have been the number one pick. Like this
- 37:25Speaker 2: kid has just been waiting for that day to be
- 37:27Speaker 2: the number one pick his whole life. I mean you
- 37:28Speaker 2: talk about in high school, his dad was prepping him
- 37:30Speaker 2: to be the number one pick, prepping him with media training.
- 37:33Speaker 2: It's like it's just next level. We can't even fathom
- 37:36Speaker 2: because it's just such a different world than we have
- 37:37Speaker 2: every even experienced. So Williams has so much pressure on him.
- 37:41Speaker 2: It doesn't work like that. In a football it's all
- 37:43Speaker 2: about the guys who don't see coming that work out right.
- 37:46Speaker 2: It's the rock parties, the Ben Roethlisberger's right, the Stroud CJ.
- 37:50Speaker 2: We thought he'd be all right, and I think this
- 37:52Speaker 2: kid was going to throw whatever it was twenty three
- 37:54Speaker 2: touchdown the five picks. No, my brain can't wrap my head.
- 37:57Speaker 2: I can't wrap my head around it. It's like we
- 37:59Speaker 2: never seen a rookie so small with the ball. That's
- 38:01Speaker 2: what Williams has to be. Like, if Kim Williams wants
- 38:03Speaker 2: to go over nine and a half wins, it's up
- 38:05Speaker 2: to nine and a half wins. Chad like that, that
- 38:08Speaker 2: to me is insane at this point, Like we we
- 38:10Speaker 2: talked to them getting drafted, it was seven and a half.
- 38:12Speaker 2: It has now been pushed up to nine and a half.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Chad just said they're Super Bowl odds are thirty five
- 38:16Speaker 2: to one. That is the dumbest bet you could ever
- 38:19Speaker 2: make in your life betting them to make it to
- 38:21Speaker 2: Super Bowl.
- 38:21Speaker 1: It's lower than they were simon last year when we
- 38:24Speaker 1: love them with Justin Fields, you know.
- 38:27Speaker 2: But they are They're a way better team this year.
- 38:29Speaker 2: That's why I understand why we're so upset that Fields
- 38:31Speaker 2: didn't get this chance. And it's like that's not how
- 38:33Speaker 2: football works, right, It's like they're the team who's doing
- 38:36Speaker 2: the best they can trying to build. I mean, Poles
- 38:38Speaker 2: has done an incredible job setting all this up, so
- 38:41Speaker 2: I already told you my bet for Chicago. If you
- 38:42Speaker 2: want to have fun, my bet is Williams overpassing yards.
- 38:46Speaker 2: I think that is something attainable. I think when we
- 38:48Speaker 2: talked about it was that three thousand, five hundred. It
- 38:50Speaker 2: might be up to three thoy six hundred seven hundred
- 38:52Speaker 2: now just because the hype is just boiling so high now,
- 38:56Speaker 2: it's just it's crazy. So to me, I have to
- 38:59Speaker 2: bet the under nine and a half. But they're not
- 39:00Speaker 2: my favorite under team and it's kind of like Green Bay, right,
- 39:02Speaker 2: I'm just throwing a little bit on their under stame
- 39:04Speaker 2: with Green Bay the fourth team we're gonna talk about here,
- 39:07Speaker 2: that's that's the team I love for an under. But
- 39:10Speaker 2: this division has just gone from you know, we didn't
- 39:13Speaker 2: really know what they were last year, right, it was
- 39:15Speaker 2: Kirk Cousins Division. Jared Goff is kind of shocked. We
- 39:17Speaker 2: didn't really know we had Jordan of Love and really
- 39:19Speaker 2: know no waving justin fields. To now this is a position,
- 39:23Speaker 2: this this division in a year or two could be
- 39:25Speaker 2: this the juggernaut in football. Right if Golf stays what
- 39:28Speaker 2: he's doing and Jordan Love keeps us sending and Caleb
- 39:30Speaker 2: Williams works out and JJ works out. Wow, Like this
- 39:34Speaker 2: is a really tough division with some great coach and
- 39:36Speaker 2: again we talked about it, even through is the worst
- 39:38Speaker 2: coach in this division, and it's not really close. Right,
- 39:40Speaker 2: we have the most doubts of him compared to the Vikings,
- 39:43Speaker 2: Green Bay and Detroit. So it's just the hype is
- 39:47Speaker 2: too high at this point, right, You just can't do it.
- 39:49Speaker 2: It's just not logical to bet this number, especially they're
- 39:51Speaker 2: over win total, even though it's at a number, it's
- 39:54Speaker 2: at one fifty forty five right now, the under nine
- 39:57Speaker 2: and a half for an under for this team at
- 39:58Speaker 2: that price, I'm only eat the fig and the juice
- 40:01Speaker 2: on that just because again it opened at seven and
- 40:03Speaker 2: a half and it's gone up two games just on hype.
- 40:06Speaker 2: So I just have to take that position.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Chad Field Caleb Williams passing yardage that's a fantasy gold mine.
- 40:19Speaker 1: When you think about Caleb Williams as a fantasy quarterback,
- 40:22Speaker 1: doesn't match up with a yardage Hall that would go
- 40:26Speaker 1: as high as Simon is projecting.
- 40:29Speaker 3: So I have this quarterback thirteen right now. That's where
- 40:31Speaker 3: I have KILEB Williams in my quarterback rankings, and it's
- 40:34Speaker 3: right outside kind of a tier which ends with Jaden Daniels,
- 40:37Speaker 3: the number two pick in the draft.
- 40:38Speaker 1: But this is.
- 40:39Speaker 3: Fantasy football, this is not real life football, where I
- 40:42Speaker 3: don't know about the future of Caleb Williams.
- 40:46Speaker 2: At least.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Out of the gates is how much rushing do we
- 40:48Speaker 3: see from Kileb Williams into design nature. They've got so
- 40:51Speaker 3: many players around Kileb Williams, so the Bears may say,
- 40:54Speaker 3: why bother risking our quarterback in any way, shape or
- 40:57Speaker 3: form when we can just hand the ball off to
- 41:00Speaker 3: backfill now led to by DeAndre Swift or throw to
- 41:03Speaker 3: what is immediately in competition for the best receiving trio
- 41:07Speaker 3: in the NFL. So yeah, the passing total is probably
- 41:10Speaker 3: the gateway for Killer Williams to have a massive fantasy season,
- 41:14Speaker 3: So I could I think I'm buying with sion is
- 41:18Speaker 3: Simon is selling right now?
- 41:20Speaker 1: The Bears win total at nine and a half, that
- 41:23Speaker 1: would be the third team to have a win total
- 41:26Speaker 1: of nine or more after selecting a QB in the
- 41:31Speaker 1: top five of the NFL draft. The other teams twenty
- 41:36Speaker 1: twenty one San Francisco forty nine ers with Trey Lance
- 41:39Speaker 1: at ten and a half nineteen ninety two. Neither of
- 41:45Speaker 1: you fuckers were born yet New York Giants ninety two.
- 41:50Speaker 3: I was born. Yeah, it was a couple of years.
- 41:53Speaker 1: New York Giants, David Brown.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Wow, that's a big cuts right there.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Up.
- 42:01Speaker 1: Here's another reason, another reason to fade the Chicago Bears.
- 42:07Speaker 1: It's the highest team over under for a drafted for
- 42:12Speaker 1: a quarter for a team that's drafted quarterback first overall
- 42:16Speaker 1: in the wild Card Era since nineteen eighty one, Team
- 42:21Speaker 1: Chicago Bears. That's it. After that again, the Giants and
- 42:26Speaker 1: Dave Brown, Bryce Young and the Panthers, I think they're
- 42:31Speaker 1: you too early because we know we love the Panthers
- 42:33Speaker 1: this year. And then the Rams and Jared got so
- 42:37Speaker 1: everything that is that Caleb Williams is tied to Caleb
- 42:40Speaker 1: Williams right now is unprecedented when it comes to team expectations.
- 42:46Speaker 2: It's impossible to look up to It's it truly is impossible.
- 42:49Speaker 3: You know. It's this is so Chad is just setting
- 42:52Speaker 3: himself up. You are just emotionally preparing yourself. Is what
- 42:55Speaker 3: you're doing here. I see it, I see it.
- 42:57Speaker 1: By the way you nailed it. I am just so
- 43:01Speaker 1: getting ready so I can be in case it's a
- 43:04Speaker 1: little bit of an emotional hedge.
- 43:07Speaker 2: Fair enough, it goes great if he does get the
- 43:08Speaker 2: ten wins, Chad, you can go. You can do a
- 43:10Speaker 2: whole episode just going off how great he is. I
- 43:12Speaker 2: support it because that, to me would be him going
- 43:15Speaker 2: ten and seven in that division. That would be truly
- 43:17Speaker 2: an incredible feat when.
- 43:19Speaker 1: He goes to ten, When he goes to ten and
- 43:20Speaker 1: seven throws for four thousand yards and twenty five touchdowns.
- 43:26Speaker 1: We're just turning this into the Chicago Bears podcast. God,
- 43:30Speaker 1: I can guarantee you that a podcast. It won't be
- 43:33Speaker 1: in the near future. Minnesota Vikings podcast. This team is
- 43:38Speaker 1: eighty to one plus one thousand to win the division,
- 43:43Speaker 1: six and a half of the win total. I think
- 43:45Speaker 1: that's being generous because their strength to schedule is fifth hardest.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Their O line rank is thirteenth. Obviously, Christian Derishad just
- 43:54Speaker 1: signed a huge contract. Third best pass block and tackle
- 43:58Speaker 1: per PFF in twenty twenty three. The rest of the
- 44:01Speaker 1: line is mediocre, and the d LI rank if the
- 44:04Speaker 1: Bears were like and oh at twenty seventh, the Vikings
- 44:08Speaker 1: are in oh crap at thirtieth, Daniel Hunter gone to
- 44:12Speaker 1: the Tecans. Texans their best player now Andrew Van Ginkel,
- 44:17Speaker 1: who at twenty nine just had a career year for
- 44:19Speaker 1: the Dolphins and did smart thing. Got a bag off
- 44:23Speaker 1: of that one year, but he's generally battled injuries through
- 44:27Speaker 1: his career. We don't know who the quarterback is yet.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Whoever it will be is playing behind an average offensive
- 44:32Speaker 1: line in a brutal opening schedule. So Field, gimme, gimme
- 44:39Speaker 1: something to hang on to for the Vikings if you can.
- 44:42Speaker 3: All right, So, Kevin O'Connell's a really really good head coach.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Who is going to be Kevin O'Connell tutor? Yep, left,
- 44:47Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell's going to be awesome for whoever is the
- 44:50Speaker 3: starting quarterback sounds more and more like it's going to
- 44:53Speaker 3: be Sam Darnold the beginning of the season, but it
- 44:55Speaker 3: won't last long, as I think eventually JJ McCarthy is
- 44:57Speaker 3: going to take over this job as a rookie. I'm
- 45:00Speaker 3: not going to sit here and go full Mike Golick
- 45:03Speaker 3: junior on you with offensive line talk, but I want
- 45:06Speaker 3: to put a little bit more respect on our guy.
- 45:07Speaker 3: Brian O'Neill, their right tackle I think is a good
- 45:09Speaker 3: player as well. And maybe if you're looking for something
- 45:13Speaker 3: to hang your hat on, it's that this team last
- 45:15Speaker 3: year when Kirk Cousins was outstayed frisky. I'm generally less
- 45:19Speaker 3: optimistic here. Somebody is going to have to finish fourth
- 45:22Speaker 3: in this division. If I had to cast my die
- 45:24Speaker 3: on one team as of right now, it's Minnesota. I
- 45:27Speaker 3: think the coaches on both sides of the ball are
- 45:29Speaker 3: very good. I do think there are some enough question
- 45:33Speaker 3: marks at key roster spots that I am just a
- 45:35Speaker 3: touch concern about this team.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Where else do you have question marks? Because to me,
- 45:41Speaker 1: I don't know where you don't have question marks on
- 45:43Speaker 1: this team? Oh?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Really?
- 45:44Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 45:44Speaker 3: I mean the wide receiver room really really good. Justin
- 45:46Speaker 3: Jefferson by himself makes the wide receiver room good. But
- 45:49Speaker 3: Jordan Attison, a first round pick last year. We'll see
- 45:51Speaker 3: whether he finished faces punishment or not for a recent
- 45:54Speaker 3: incidents that frankly, I can't imagine how he put himself
- 45:59Speaker 3: in that that of a spot once again. Second so
- 46:04Speaker 3: I think it was was it speeding less or not?
- 46:06Speaker 3: We don't have to sit here and go through it all.
- 46:09Speaker 3: But yes, two separate incidents that were not good defensively.
- 46:12Speaker 3: You know, they kind of like they punched above their
- 46:14Speaker 3: weight last year. Because Brian Flores is really good, they
- 46:18Speaker 3: found an undrafted gym and I have in pace linebacker
- 46:21Speaker 3: Dallas Turner plus Andrew Van Ginkel plus Jonathan Gernard forms
- 46:25Speaker 3: a pretty decent pass rushing trio if you ask me.
- 46:29Speaker 3: The secondary is thin, but maybe because of the chaotic
- 46:33Speaker 3: scheme that Brian Flores employees, you don't need to be
- 46:35Speaker 3: quite as loaded at cornerback. I've talked to many, many,
- 46:39Speaker 3: many defensive coaches over many years who have told me
- 46:42Speaker 3: time and again it is much easier to cover up
- 46:44Speaker 3: for deficient cornerback room with a great rush than it
- 46:47Speaker 3: is the inverse, especially with the way that the NFL
- 46:50Speaker 3: is officiated these days and how restrictive the rules are
- 46:53Speaker 3: for defensive backs. So, yeah, that will be my case
- 46:55Speaker 3: for them to be a competitive team this year. More
- 46:58Speaker 3: competitive than you might think based off their roster. But
- 47:01Speaker 3: I do think this team is four out of four
- 47:04Speaker 3: in this division.
- 47:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll just stay off the top. This is one
- 47:07Speaker 2: of the teams I'm taking my larger positions on to
- 47:09Speaker 2: be one of the worst teams on football, and it
- 47:11Speaker 2: stinks because I do love they're coaching so much. But
- 47:14Speaker 2: Chad just nailed it. If you're if you're not driving,
- 47:16Speaker 2: open up your phone real quick and go and look
- 47:18Speaker 2: at their schedule. Their first their first game against the
- 47:21Speaker 2: Giants is definitely winnable, but the next eight are brutal.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Like there, it's a brutal opening slate for them with
- 47:28Speaker 2: the let.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Me read it, everybody right, They got the Giants and
- 47:32Speaker 1: look we like, we liked the Giants.
- 47:35Speaker 2: I love the Giants, Simon.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You and I have bet the Giants already. It's going
- 47:38Speaker 1: to be one of the five picks that we love.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Then they have the Niners, Texans, Packers, Jets, Lions, Rams.
- 47:47Speaker 1: If you listen to the Action Network podcast with Stucky
- 47:50Speaker 1: and Raybon, they did their AFC NFC previews in May.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Stucky had a great bet. Is there a team that
- 48:01Speaker 1: might be better to bet on to be the last
- 48:05Speaker 1: winless team than the Minnesota Vikings? Like they could be?
- 48:10Speaker 1: They could be and eight.
- 48:13Speaker 2: And the only reason I haven't made that better is
- 48:15Speaker 2: just because I have so much invested in that Week
- 48:17Speaker 2: one that if can't I can't take double l's on
- 48:19Speaker 2: that if they beat the Giants, that would kill me.
- 48:22Speaker 2: But you nailed a Chad where it's just even if
- 48:27Speaker 2: they somehow improve a little bit on defense, last year
- 48:30Speaker 2: was so far above it and it's just I just
- 48:33Speaker 2: can't see they don't have the pieces. To me, it's
- 48:34Speaker 2: a it's a team that's in a total rebuild. And again,
- 48:37Speaker 2: we we talk all the time about this where it's
- 48:40Speaker 2: like coaching can really steal you a couple of wins.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I mean, Brian Gable won a couple of games with
- 48:44Speaker 2: his third string quarterback against you know, pretty good teams
- 48:47Speaker 2: last year. It's like these these coaches even here, you
- 48:49Speaker 2: know they have that they had the past or not
- 48:51Speaker 2: winning games for them a couple of games. We know
- 48:53Speaker 2: these things can happen. So again, I wouldn't be shocked
- 48:56Speaker 2: if they do. Someone I get the four wins six
- 48:58Speaker 2: and a half. Six and a half wins is what
- 49:00Speaker 2: the books are hanging it out right now. So this
- 49:02Speaker 2: is it under I've just been hitting heavy and I
- 49:05Speaker 2: know selfish, I didn't want to talk about too much
- 49:07Speaker 2: cause I wanted to keep getting a ton of value
- 49:08Speaker 2: on it so I could bet it all summer. I'm
- 49:11Speaker 2: tapped out. I don't need to put any more into this.
- 49:12Speaker 2: It's like, I am so fat on betting this game's
- 49:15Speaker 2: under It's like I can't, I can't bet anymore. So
- 49:18Speaker 2: if you want to go out and bet them worst
- 49:19Speaker 2: records still plus, you know, I think it was twelve
- 49:22Speaker 2: to one or thirteen to one. In most books, it's
- 49:24Speaker 2: come down to eleven to one a couple so shop around.
- 49:26Speaker 2: But and again I don't want to bring up to
- 49:28Speaker 2: sports book. There is one sports book that don't bet
- 49:30Speaker 2: any NFL futures on them because they're going to tax
- 49:32Speaker 2: you extra after January. So make sure you're with a
- 49:36Speaker 2: book that's not going to crush your futures after January,
- 49:38Speaker 2: because again, the season runs until after January. Now, people,
- 49:41Speaker 2: that's that's how long the season is. So this Vikings team,
- 49:44Speaker 2: to me, it's just it's a classic case of they
- 49:48Speaker 2: knew what they're going to be and they let Kirk walk, right,
- 49:51Speaker 2: They could have brought Kirk back to do another nine
- 49:54Speaker 2: and eight, ten and seven kind of season, right. That's
- 49:56Speaker 2: that this, like Field said, they have some of the
- 49:58Speaker 2: best receivers on football, Like, they have the pieces here
- 50:01Speaker 2: to make it all work. You know, even TJ is
- 50:03Speaker 2: coming back off a big injury. I still think he'll
- 50:05Speaker 2: be a solid play for them.
- 50:06Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Defensive wise, Oh, they're gonna be terrible. And now you
- 50:10Speaker 2: bring in the fact that I just talked about Jordan
- 50:12Speaker 2: Lovey in The Ultimate Gamer. Sam Donald is whatever the
- 50:15Speaker 2: opposite of that is. This is the guy who, in
- 50:17Speaker 2: practice he is number three overall, can't miss throwing dimes
- 50:22Speaker 2: in corner pocket Sam Donald. Once the game starts, Ghosts
- 50:26Speaker 2: Ghost Ghost Ghosts, and we talked about it, he's now
- 50:29Speaker 2: he might be starting his first game back into that
- 50:31Speaker 2: stadium that you know he has PTSD, going back to
- 50:33Speaker 2: met Life, like that's where it all went wrong for him.
- 50:35Speaker 2: So to me, they're in a spot where it's like,
- 50:39Speaker 2: I don't know why they wouldn't just start jj E.
- 50:40Speaker 2: And if he's gonna be rough out the gate, who cares? Like,
- 50:43Speaker 2: who cares? If it's rough out the gate? You're you're
- 50:45Speaker 2: literally just trying to get this guy reps and get
- 50:46Speaker 2: him experienced because he didn't have the reps in college,
- 50:49Speaker 2: Like he just was not passing as much as you
- 50:51Speaker 2: needed him to throw. So to me, he's my most
- 50:54Speaker 2: most exciting prospect. Me and you talked about before during
- 50:57Speaker 2: the draft chat. This is a kid that won in
- 50:59Speaker 2: high school and then he won in college, and he
- 51:01Speaker 2: was always the guy right. He was always number one ranked,
- 51:04Speaker 2: number two ranked kid coming out of high school, always
- 51:07Speaker 2: was a big known player at Michigan. He lived up
- 51:10Speaker 2: to all those expectations. So to me, Minnesota, I'm taking
- 51:13Speaker 2: a giant dump on your chest right now, and I'm
- 51:15Speaker 2: so sorry about it. I'm just shitting on you guys,
- 51:17Speaker 2: and I hate your team this year. The future is
- 51:20Speaker 2: so bright if he does stay with this coaching staff
- 51:23Speaker 2: and they do keep putting the pieces around him. But man,
- 51:26Speaker 2: is this season gonna suck? Like you guys? I just
- 51:28Speaker 2: said it. You could easily be zero to nine, and
- 51:30Speaker 2: it's like you wouldn't be shocked. That's a juggernaut start
- 51:34Speaker 2: to the season for either Sam Darnold or JJ. It's
- 51:37Speaker 2: just brutal how the schedule makers laid it out. So
- 51:40Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I'm Minnesota, but they got to be one
- 51:42Speaker 2: of my favorite unders the season.
- 51:43Speaker 1: Check now you're.
- 51:45Speaker 3: Allowed back in the Twin Cities again.
- 51:47Speaker 1: Field. You talk to a lot of guys and you
- 51:49Speaker 1: mentioned Kevin O'Connell, and I love Kevin O'Connell. I agree
- 51:53Speaker 1: with him. I love him. I think he's a great coach.
- 51:55Speaker 1: And I felt like, you know, Brian Daball and him
- 51:59Speaker 1: started the same time, and I felt like Brian Daball
- 52:02Speaker 1: got too much credit for being a great coach that
- 52:05Speaker 1: first year with the Giants, and I don't think Kevin
- 52:07Speaker 1: O'Connell got enough credit last year.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Well, he did beat him on the row with Daniel j.
- 52:12Speaker 1: I'm not saying. I'm not saying Brian David didn't deserve
- 52:15Speaker 1: the credit and that Kevin O'Connell didn't deserve the blame
- 52:18Speaker 1: for those games. I'm saying last year, Brian, what Kevin
- 52:22Speaker 1: O'Connell did, after Kirk Cousins went out, after Justin Jefferson
- 52:26Speaker 1: went out with a really poorous defense that Brian Flores
- 52:29Speaker 1: was doing as good as he could could with. He
- 52:31Speaker 1: still put that team in a lot of great spots
- 52:35Speaker 1: where they had a path to the playoffs, starting guys
- 52:38Speaker 1: like off the street. When you look at Kevin O'Connell,
- 52:41Speaker 1: you mentioned he's a good coach. What do you like
- 52:43Speaker 1: about him, What do you like about what he does
- 52:44Speaker 1: with quarterbacks? What do you hear from other people you
- 52:46Speaker 1: talk to in the league.
- 52:47Speaker 3: Yeah, so Kevin O'Connell is an excellent making the quarterback
- 52:51Speaker 3: decisions easy coach for him. Right, I'm not saying that
- 52:54Speaker 3: there aren't complex nuances to the offense. There certainly are,
- 52:57Speaker 3: but he allows things to slow down for quarterbacks. He
- 53:00Speaker 3: also allows them to not have to worry about factors
- 53:03Speaker 3: that are out of their control. If they have poorous
- 53:06Speaker 3: offensive line play, if the receivers are hurt, he can
- 53:08Speaker 3: find ways to help make the scheme easier. His demeanor
- 53:11Speaker 3: is really good as well. I think we are more
- 53:14Speaker 3: and more in a generation or an era, whatever you
- 53:16Speaker 3: want to call it, of tough love coaching not being
- 53:20Speaker 3: the norm anymore. Right in part, I think you can
- 53:22Speaker 3: trace that to the roots of college football, where these
- 53:24Speaker 3: guys are now getting paid, and if you have a coach,
- 53:26Speaker 3: it's dropping the hammer on a kid. He can say,
- 53:28Speaker 3: I'm gonna take my millions upon millions of dollars from
- 53:31Speaker 3: nil money and go somewhere else because I have an
- 53:34Speaker 3: opportunity to go somewhere where they might tribute, like Worldy,
- 53:36Speaker 3: even if I'm in a bit of a funk. So
- 53:39Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell is a very high relatability level. Maybe it's
- 53:42Speaker 3: because he played in the NFL as a quarterback, even
- 53:44Speaker 3: if it was briefly really smart guy, somebody who seems
- 53:48Speaker 3: to have the capacity to ride the wave a little
- 53:52Speaker 3: bit as well. Things haven't always been easy for the Vikings.
- 53:55Speaker 3: We saw that last year when Kirk Cousins was hurt.
- 53:59Speaker 3: They still found a way to kind of keep that
- 54:01Speaker 3: outlook and they ended up like proving it right, like
- 54:04Speaker 3: they were hanging tougher than many of us expected down
- 54:08Speaker 3: the stretch last season, which not only excluded Kirk Cousins,
- 54:12Speaker 3: but of course did not include Justin Jefferson for a
- 54:14Speaker 3: huge stretch of games.
- 54:16Speaker 1: A couple weeks ago, I think it was last week, actually,
- 54:19Speaker 1: Simon was in Connecticut and he came by my house
- 54:23Speaker 1: and we had lunch together in the kitchen with my wife.
- 54:25Speaker 1: He met my younger son, and when he and I
- 54:30Speaker 1: were having lunch with my wife, he was talking about betting,
- 54:33Speaker 1: and you know, she was surprised to learn that I
- 54:36Speaker 1: had a podcast and that somebody else to me, and
- 54:40Speaker 1: we were talking about betting and the way he talked
- 54:42Speaker 1: about betting with the confidence he talked about it. That night,
- 54:47Speaker 1: Stacey looked at me and she says, how are we
- 54:50Speaker 1: not giving this guy all of our money. I feel
- 54:54Speaker 1: like no matter what we give him, we would come
- 54:56Speaker 1: out better in the end.
- 54:58Speaker 3: The jillionaires, Yeah.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Jillionaires, we'd have. So she was so taken and enamored
- 55:04Speaker 1: by his confidence and his story and his humanity, and
- 55:06Speaker 1: he's so personable. She loved it. So I think all
- 55:11Speaker 1: of us we should just pull our money and just
- 55:12Speaker 1: give it to Simon.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Tell her six and a half check.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Well, that's what I'm gonna say. What we're gonna do
- 55:18Speaker 1: with that money to recap, We're gonna put it all
- 55:21Speaker 1: in the Lions plus one fifty. We're going to put
- 55:23Speaker 1: in the Lions over ten and a half, and we
- 55:25Speaker 1: are going to go to town. This is the strongest take
- 55:28Speaker 1: you've had of the previous we've done so far at
- 55:30Speaker 1: the AFC and NFC South and now the NFC North
- 55:35Speaker 1: Vikings under six and a half. Simon loves it. I
- 55:38Speaker 1: love it. I feel I don't want to put words
- 55:41Speaker 1: in your mouth. Do you have an opinion on Vikings
- 55:43Speaker 1: under six six and a half? I do you know.
- 55:46Speaker 3: I continue to feel as though this is a team
- 55:48Speaker 3: that might be four of four years. So I think
- 55:51Speaker 3: we largely agree on our assessment of where things are
- 55:54Speaker 3: going to shake out. I feel even stronger about how
- 55:57Speaker 3: I view the vikings after and I didn't realize previously
- 56:00Speaker 3: how difficult their schedule is out of the shoots. That
- 56:02Speaker 3: is very tough pre buy and even those three weeks
- 56:07Speaker 3: after the buye as well.
- 56:08Speaker 2: Would you still take Justin Jefferson the first round knowing
- 56:10Speaker 2: all what you know now? Or would you? Yeah, you
- 56:13Speaker 2: wouldn't bump him down a little bit.
- 56:15Speaker 3: No, he's fine by me. He's you know, generational in
- 56:18Speaker 3: terms of talent, are close to it. And you know,
- 56:21Speaker 3: quarterback play didn't really defy him last year, right, I
- 56:23Speaker 3: mean he came back and was playing with Jaron Pall
- 56:25Speaker 3: and Nick Mullins and drive a schm morgas sport of
- 56:27Speaker 3: quarterbacks and absolutely bald out when he was healthy after
- 56:31Speaker 3: that hamstring strain for whatever it was eight or nine
- 56:34Speaker 3: games that he missed, which stump.
