- 2:52In local news, the Biden administration is set to allocate $335 million towards the I-90
- 3:00Alston project in Massachusetts.
- 3:04This funding aims to reconnect the Alston and Brighton neighborhoods in Boston, fostering
- 3:09community unity.
- 3:11The project, estimated at $2 billion, seeks to straighten and lower the Massachusetts
- 3:17turnpike to ground level.
- 3:20It promises to improve north-south connections and access to the Charles River, enhancing
- 3:25local connectivity.
- 3:28With this federal boost, the project must accelerate to meet a September 30, 2026 obligation
- 3:35deadline.
- 3:37The funding plan includes contributions from the City of Boston, Harvard, and Boston University,
- 3:43totaling an additional $300 million.
- 3:48Construction is planned to start in 2027, with funding from state bonds, loans, toll
- 3:53funds and the millionaire tax.
- 3:57This grant is part of the Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant program, focusing on improving
- 4:02transportation access and walkability.
- 4:06This federal support marks a significant victory for the project, reflecting a collaborative
- 4:11effort to enhance community connectivity.
- 4:20Now onto sports.
- 4:23The Alpharetta Sports and Entertainment Group, led by Anson Carter, has officially requested
- 4:28the NHL to consider an expansion process for bringing a new franchise to the Atlanta area,
- 4:35aiming for the city's third NHL team.
- 4:39Atlanta has a history with the NHL, having been honed to the Flames from 1972 to 1980,
- 4:46and the Thrasher's from 1999 to 2011, with both teams eventually relocating.
- 4:54The proposed team would play in a new arena designed by Frank Gehry, part of a larger
- 4:59development at the North Point Mall site in Alpharetta.
- 5:03Carter, who has been in talks with Commissioner Gary Bettman since 2019, believes that the
- 5:09NHL will thrive upon its return to metro Atlanta.
- 5:14Carter's group isn't the only one interested in bringing the hockey back to Atlanta, with
- 5:19Vermin-Kraus proposing a new arena in Forsyth County for a potential team.
- 5:25While the NHL has not prioritized expansion beyond its current 32 teams, interest from
- 5:32cities like Atlanta, Utah, and Houston suggests a growing appetite for new franchises.
- 5:40Last night, the Celtics were in Utah taking on the Jazz and beat them easily, 123-107.
- 5:48Jason Tatum scored 38 points, and tonight the Bruins are on the road to face off against
- 5:55the Canadians.
- 5:58And top news, avocados, often hailed as nutrition's superstar, pack a significant health punch
- 6:07with their rich nutritional profile.
- 6:10Their nutritional benefits extend to a wide array of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients,
- 6:16including a substantial amount of dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium, B vitamins, vitamin
- 6:22E, and carotenoids.
- 6:25Research highlights avocados' potential in improving gut health, thanks to their high
- 6:30fiber content, which nurtures the gut's beneficial bacteria and produces health-supporting short-chain
- 6:37fatty acids.
- 6:39Studies suggest incorporating avocados into a daily diet may aid in maintaining healthy
- 6:45weight, leveraging their fiber to promote satiety and possibly prevent weight gain.
- 6:52The fruit's nutrient composition also positions it as a heart health ally, with evidence linking
- 6:58avocado consumption to reduced risks of cardiovascular diseases, courtesy of their potassium, magnesium,
- 7:06and healthy fats.
- 7:08Beyond physical health, avocados might bolster brain function with compounds like gluten,
- 7:14potentially crossing the blood-brain barrier to enhance cognitive abilities and protect
- 7:19against cognitive decline.
- 7:23Avocados offer more than just a creamy texture and rich flavor.
- 7:26They're a powerhouse of essential nutrients that can support gut health, heart health,
- 7:32weight management, and cognitive function.
- 7:36In business news, China's ambitious efforts to stabilize its stock market inadvertently
- 7:42challenged the nation's burgeoning quant fund industry, revealing the complex interplay
- 7:48between algorithmic trading strategies and governmental policies.
- 7:55Quantitative funds, which had thrived by leveraging complex statistical models to navigate market
- 8:00dynamics, found themselves at a crossroads when the Chinese government intervened to
- 8:05halt a market slump.
- 8:07Despite their previous successes, these funds overlooked a crucial variable, the unpredictable
- 8:13nature of government actions, which became a significant blind spot.
- 8:19The government's crackdown on quant trading aimed at stemming the tide of market losses,
- 8:24particularly targeted funds betting on small companies, leading to substantial financial
- 8:29losses and increased scrutiny.
- 8:32In response to a prolonged downturn, China's government implemented measures to boost the
- 8:38market, inadvertently sidelining micro and small cap stocks and putting quant funds in
- 8:44a precarious position.
- 8:46The interventions led to rapid market shifts, with quant funds struggling to adapt their
- 8:51algorithms to the new regulatory landscape, resulting in significant losses and the closure
- 8:58of some funds.
- 9:00As China's quant fund sector grapples with these challenges, the episode serves as a
- 9:05cautionary tale about the limits of algorithmic trading in the face of government intervention
- 9:11and the need for adaptability in unpredictable markets.
- 9:16In crypto movement, Bitcoin remains over $72,000, Ethereum is at $4,000, and Solana is $150.

- 10:15And now back to the show.
- 10:20Let's talk science.
- 10:21The quest to resurrect the woolly mammoth, a creature that roamed the earth around 10,000
- 10:27years ago, has made significant strides thanks to colossal biosciences.
- 10:33This de-extinction company has mastered a gene-editing technique, enabling the propagation
- 10:39of Asian elephant cells indefinitely in the lab.
- 10:43This breakthrough uses induced pluripotent stem cell technology, which may eventually
- 10:48allow the creation of sperm and egg cells, leading to a mammoth-like creature.
- 10:55Despite ethical debates, the project aims to reintroduce these giants into their former
- 11:00habitats, potentially revitalizing ecosystems.
- 11:05The initiative faces skepticism over the recreated animal's behavior and ecological impact,
- 11:11yet the team remains dedicated to their vision.
- 11:15This ambitious endeavor illustrates the intersection of advanced science, conservation efforts,
- 11:21and the ethical considerations of de-extinction.
- 11:27And in entertainment news, Neil Young, the iconic rock musician, has decided to bring
- 11:33his music back to Spotify after a two-year hiatus, during which he protested the platform's
- 11:39association with podcaster Joe Rogan.
- 11:43Young initially pulled his music in opposition to Spotify's exclusive deal with Rogan,
- 11:48citing concerns over COVID-19 misinformation spread through the podcast.
- 11:53Rogan's podcast, known for its controversial content, recently expanded its distribution
- 12:00to include platforms like Apple, Amazon, and YouTube, following a new agreement with
- 12:05Spotify.
- 12:06In his return to Spotify, Young expresses a pragmatic stance, acknowledging the challenge
- 12:13of boycotting every service that carries Rogan's podcast due to the limited streaming options
- 12:18available for his music.
- 12:20He also reiterates his disappointment with Spotify's sound quality, hoping for improvements
- 12:26that would allow listeners to fully experience his music as intended.
- 12:32This move highlights the complexities artists face in balancing their principles with a
- 12:36desire to reach their audience in the digital age.
- 12:41Well, alrighty folks, it's time for the quote of the day.
- 12:46And today, we'll hear from an old friend who's been quiet for a while.
- 12:50Uh oh, guess what day it is?
- 12:53Guess what day it is?
- 12:55Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, what day is it, Mike?
- 12:59Pump day?
- 13:02And that's a wrap for this morning.
