  a
• 1:30

• 1:31
  as
• 1:31

• 1:31

  because
• 1:31
  you
• 1:32

• 1:33
  on

  all
• 1:33

  our

• 1:34
  We

• 1:39
  I
• 1:40
  do

  know.
• 1:40
  So
• 1:41
  I
• 1:41
  grew
• 1:41
  up
• 1:41
  in
• 1:41
  the
• 1:41
  Pacific
• 1:42

• 1:44
  of

• 1:45
  and
• 1:46
  when
• 1:46
  I
• 1:46
  was
• 1:46
  about
• 1:46
  four
• 1:47
  my
• 1:47
  dad
• 1:47
  took
• 1:47
  me
• 1:48
  down
• 1:48
  to
• 1:48
  the
• 1:48
  local

  a

  either
• 1:51
  one
• 1:51
  or
• 1:51
  half
• 1:52
  ounce
• 1:52

• 1:53
  weight
• 1:53
  with
• 1:53
  a
• 1:54
  piece
• 1:54
  of
• 1:54
  herring
• 1:54
  on
• 1:54
  it
• 1:55
  and
• 1:55
  we
• 1:56
  caught
• 1:56
  a
• 1:56
  stringer
• 1:57
  full
• 1:57
  of
• 1:58
  what
• 1:58
  we
• 1:59
  called
• 1:59
  bull
• 1:59
  head,
• 1:59
  which
• 2:00
  are
• 2:00
  basically
• 2:00
  like
• 2:01
  a
• 2:01
  big
• 2:01
  sculpin
• 2:03
  and
• 2:03
  I
• 2:03
  remember
• 2:04
  bringing
• 2:04
  home
• 2:04
  a
• 2:05
  big
• 2:05
  stringer
• 2:05
  full
• 2:05
  of
• 2:06
  them
• 2:07
  rather
• 2:07
  than
• 2:08
  just
• 2:08
  leaving
• 2:08
  them
• 2:09
  on
• 2:09
  the
• 2:09
  dock
• 2:09
  as
• 2:09
  most
• 2:10
  of
• 2:10
  the
• 2:10
  people
• 2:10
  there
• 2:10
  did.
• 2:11
  And
• 2:11
  we
• 2:11
  ate
• 2:12
  them
• 2:12
  for
• 2:12
  dinner.
• 2:13
  I
• 2:13
  had
• 2:14
  very
• 2:14
  supportive
• 2:15
  parents
• 2:15
  growing
• 2:15
  up
• 2:15
  and
• 2:16
  so
• 2:16
  we
• 2:16
  had
• 2:16
  many
• 2:17
  bullhead
• 2:18
  dinners
• 2:18
  growing
• 2:19
  up.
• 2:20
  Very,
• 2:20
  very
• 2:21
  neat.
• 2:21
  So
• 2:21
  when
• 2:21
  did
• 2:21
  you
• 2:21
  come
• 2:21
  to
• 2:22
  the
• 2:22
  dark
• 2:22
  side
• 2:22
  of
• 2:22
  fly
• 2:22
  fishing?
• 2:25
  Well,
• 2:27
  my
• 2:27
  grandfather
• 2:28
  passed
• 2:28
  away
• 2:28
  when
• 2:28
  I
• 2:28
  was
• 2:28
  five
• 2:29
  or
• 2:29
  six
• 2:29
  years
• 2:29
  old
• 2:30
  and
• 2:30
  I
• 2:30
  inherited
• 2:31
  all
• 2:31
  of
• 2:31
  his
• 2:31
  fly
• 2:32
  tying
• 2:32
  stuff.
• 2:32
  So
• 2:32
  I,
• 2:33
  I
• 2:33
  kind
• 2:33
  of
• 2:34
  started,
• 2:34
  I
• 2:34
  tied
• 2:35
  some
• 2:35
  Flies,
• 2:36
  honestly,
• 2:37
  I
• 2:37
  tied
• 2:37
  them
• 2:37
  with
• 2:38
  lead
• 2:38
  wire
• 2:38
  at
• 2:39
  that
• 2:39
  point
• 2:39
  because
• 2:40
  it
• 2:40
  wouldn't
• 2:40
  unwind
• 2:41
  on
• 2:41
  you.
• 2:41
  So.
• 2:42
  So
• 2:42
  you
• 2:42
  could
• 2:42
  make
• 2:43
  a
• 2:43
  mistake
• 2:43
  and
• 2:44
  break
• 2:44
  something
• 2:45
  and
• 2:45
  you
• 2:45
  know,
• 2:46
  it
• 2:46
  wouldn't
• 2:46
  come
• 2:46
  all
• 2:47
  unfurled
• 2:48
  and
• 2:48
  loose.
• 2:50
  But,
• 2:51
  you
• 2:51
  know,
• 2:51
  I
• 2:51
  tried
• 2:51
  it,
• 2:52
  got
• 2:52
  into
• 2:52
  it,
• 2:52
  got
• 2:52
  excited
• 2:53
  about
• 2:53
  it,
• 2:53
  didn't
• 2:54
  quite
• 2:54
  stick.
• 2:54
  You
• 2:55
  know,
• 2:55
  at
• 2:55
  6,
• 2:55
  you
• 2:56
  only
• 2:56
  have
• 2:56
  so
• 2:56
  much
• 2:56
  coordination.
• 2:58
  So
• 2:58
  kind
• 2:58
  of
• 2:59
  went
• 2:59
  back
• 2:59
  to
• 2:59
  bait.
• 3:00
  But
• 3:00
  that
• 3:01
  helped
• 3:01
  maintain
• 3:01
  and
• 3:02
  build
• 3:02
  my
• 3:02
  passion
• 3:02
  for
• 3:03
  fishing
• 3:03
  in
• 3:03
  general.
• 3:04
  And
• 3:04
  I
• 3:04
  came
• 3:04
  back
• 3:05
  to
• 3:05
  it
• 3:05
  when
• 3:05
  I
• 3:05
  was
• 3:05
  about
• 3:05
  13
• 3:06
  years
• 3:06
  old
• 3:06
  and
• 3:07
  kind
• 3:07
  of
• 3:07
  advanced
• 3:08
  from
• 3:08
  brim
• 3:09
  and
• 3:09
  stocker
• 3:09
  rainbows
• 3:10
  to
• 3:10
  things
• 3:10
  like
• 3:10
  sea
• 3:10
  run
• 3:11
  cutthroat
• 3:11
  and
• 3:11
  chum
• 3:12
  salmon
• 3:12
  and
• 3:12
  flounder
• 3:13
  and
• 3:13
  those
• 3:13
  types
• 3:13
  of
• 3:14
  things.
• 3:14
  Things,
• 3:14
  yeah.
• 3:15
  And
• 3:15
  as
• 3:15
  we
• 3:15
  always
• 3:15
  say,
• 3:16
  it
• 3:16
  was
• 3:16
  kind
• 3:16
  of
• 3:16
  downhill
• 3:17
  from
• 3:17
  there.
• 3:17
  So,
• 3:17
  you
• 3:18
  know,
• 3:18
  who
• 3:19
  are
• 3:19
  some
• 3:19
  of
• 3:19
  the
• 3:19
  folks
• 3:19
  that
• 3:20
  have
• 3:21
  mentored
• 3:21
  you
• 3:21
  on
• 3:21
  your
• 3:21
  fly
• 3:22
  fishing
• 3:22
  journey
• 3:22
  and
• 3:22
  what
• 3:22
  do
• 3:23
  they
• 3:23
  teach
• 3:23
  you?
• 3:24
  Yeah,
• 3:25
  so
• 3:25
  my
• 3:25
  dad
• 3:26
  definitely
• 3:26
  helped
• 3:26
  introduce
• 3:27
  me
• 3:27
  to
• 3:27
  the
• 3:27
  sport
• 3:27
  and
• 3:28
  got
• 3:28
  me
• 3:28
  out
• 3:28
  there.
• 3:29
  And
• 3:30
  then
• 3:30
  honestly,
• 3:30
  he
• 3:31
  took
• 3:31
  me
• 3:31
  to
• 3:31
  a
• 3:32
  local
• 3:32

• 3:32

  called

• 3:35

  teens
• 3:39
  and
• 3:40
  everybody
• 3:40
  else
• 3:40
  was

  at
• 3:40
  least
• 3:41
  50

• 3:42
  everybody
• 3:43
  was
• 3:43
  super
• 3:44
  supportive,
• 3:44
  receptive,
• 3:46
  helpful,
• 3:47
  went
• 3:48
  out
• 3:48
  of
• 3:48
  their
• 3:48
  way
• 3:48
  to
• 3:49
  just
• 3:50
  make
• 3:50
  me
• 3:50
  feel
• 3:50
  welcome
• 3:51
  and
• 3:51
  show
• 3:51
  me
• 3:51
  things.
• 3:52
  One
• 3:53
  person
• 3:53
  in
• 3:53
  particular,
• 3:54
  Gary
• 3:54
  Oberbilig,
• 3:55
  ended
• 3:56
  up
• 3:56
  being
• 3:57
  my
• 3:57
  grad
• 3:58
  project
• 3:58
  mentor.
• 4:00
  My
• 4:00
  grad
• 4:00
  project
• 4:01
  in
• 4:01
  high
• 4:01
  school
• 4:01
  was
• 4:01
  tying
• 4:02
  a
• 4:02
  ton
• 4:02
  of
• 4:02
  flies
• 4:03
  for
• 4:03
  a
• 4:03
  road
• 4:03
  trip
• 4:04
  up
• 4:04
  to
• 4:04
  British
• 4:04
  Columbia
• 4:05
  in
• 4:05
  Alaska
• 4:06
  after
• 4:06
  graduation.
• 4:07
  So
• 4:09
  he
• 4:09
  helped
• 4:09
  me
• 4:09
  with
• 4:10
  that.
• 4:11
  And
• 4:11
  then
• 4:11
  when
• 4:12
  I
• 4:12
  moved
• 4:12
  out
• 4:12
  to
• 4:14
  the
• 4:14
  Triangle,
• 4:15
  Raleigh,
• 4:15
  Durham,
• 4:15
  Chapel
• 4:16
  Hill
• 4:16
  in
• 4:16
  North
• 4:16
  Carolina,
• 4:17
  I
• 4:18
  got
• 4:18
  hooked
• 4:18
  up
• 4:18
  with
• 4:18
  the
• 4:19
  Triangle
• 4:19
  Fly
• 4:19
  fishers.
• 4:21
  I'd
• 4:21
  say
• 4:21
  everybody
• 4:22
  in
• 4:22
  there
• 4:23
  has
• 4:23
  been
• 4:23
  really
• 4:24
  influential
• 4:24
  on
• 4:24
  my
• 4:25
  fly
• 4:25
  fishing
• 4:26
  journey
• 4:26
  and
• 4:27
  helping
• 4:27
  to
• 4:28
  acclimate
• 4:29
  me
• 4:29
  to
• 4:29
  a
• 4:30
  new
• 4:30
  area.
• 4:31
  Three
• 4:32
  people,
• 4:32
  I'll
• 4:32
  just
• 4:32
  mention
• 4:33
  real
• 4:33
  quick.
• 4:33
  John
• 4:34
  Couric
• 4:34
  invited
• 4:35
  me
• 4:35
  on
• 4:35
  my
• 4:35
  first
• 4:36
  South
• 4:36
  Holston
• 4:37
  river
• 4:37
  trip.
• 4:38
  Pretty
• 4:39
  selfish
• 4:39
  aims
• 4:40
  in
• 4:40
  mind.
• 4:40
  He
• 4:41
  was
• 4:41
  the
• 4:41
  president
• 4:42
  at
• 4:42
  the
• 4:42
  time
• 4:42
  and
• 4:42
  he
• 4:42
  was
• 4:43
  recruiting
• 4:43
  board
• 4:43
  members.
• 4:44
  So
• 4:44
  I
• 4:44
  kind
• 4:44
  of
• 4:44
  got
• 4:44
  roped
• 4:45
  into
• 4:45
  that.
• 4:46
  But
• 4:47
  appreciate
• 4:48
  it
• 4:48
  overall.
• 4:49
  Ned
• 4:50
  Jones
• 4:50
  organized
• 4:51
  tons
• 4:51
  of
• 4:51
  trips
• 4:52
  out
• 4:52
  here
• 4:53
  and
• 4:53
  I
• 4:53
  was
• 4:53
  lucky
• 4:53
  enough
• 4:54
  to
• 4:54
  be
• 4:54
  invited
• 4:54
  to
• 4:54
  a
• 4:55
  bunch
• 4:55
  of
• 4:55
  them.
• 4:56
  And
• 4:56
  then
• 4:56
  Malcolm
• 4:57
  Finlayson
• 4:59
  is
• 4:59
  a
• 4:59
  good
• 4:59
  friend
• 4:59
  of
• 5:00
  mine.
• 5:00
  He
• 5:00
  was
• 5:00
  the
• 5:01
  officiant
• 5:01
  in
• 5:01
  my
• 5:01
  wedding
• 5:02
  and
• 5:03
  he
• 5:03
  really
• 5:03
  took
• 5:03
  me
• 5:03
  under
• 5:03
  his
• 5:04
  wing
• 5:04
  and
• 5:04
  not
• 5:05
  only
• 5:05
  showed
• 5:05
  me
• 5:05
  a
• 5:05
  lot
• 5:05
  on
• 5:05
  the
• 5:06
  South
• 5:06
  Holston
• 5:06
  and
• 5:06
  Watauga
• 5:07
  to
• 5:07
  get
• 5:07
  me
• 5:07
  started,
• 5:08
  but,
• 5:08
  but
• 5:09
  Roanoke
• 5:09
  stripers,
• 5:10
  false
• 5:11
  albacore
• 5:11
  out
• 5:11
  on
• 5:11
  the
• 5:12
  coast,
• 5:12
  New
• 5:13
  river
• 5:13
  smallmouth,
• 5:14
  redfish,
• 5:15
  all
• 5:15
  kinds
• 5:15
  of
• 5:15
  things
• 5:15
  in
• 5:16
  North
• 5:16
  Carolina.
• 5:17
  And
• 5:17
  then
• 5:17
  the
• 5:18
  Other
• 5:18
  big
• 5:18
  one
• 5:20
  was
• 5:20
  Bjorn
• 5:21
  beach,
• 5:22
  who
• 5:22
  owned
• 5:23
  and
• 5:23
  ran
• 5:23
  a
• 5:23
  fly
• 5:23
  shop
• 5:24
  where
• 5:24
  I
• 5:24
  grew
• 5:24
  up
• 5:24
  called
• 5:24
  the
• 5:25
  Fly
• 5:25
  Fisher.
• 5:26
  And
• 5:27
  he
• 5:27
  was
• 5:27
  helpful
• 5:28
  in,
• 5:29
  you
• 5:29
  know,
• 5:30
  introducing
• 5:30
  me,
• 5:31
  introducing
• 5:31
  me
• 5:31
  to
• 5:31
  the
• 5:31
  sport,
• 5:32
  getting
• 5:32
  me
• 5:32
  excited
• 5:33
  about
• 5:33
  fly
• 5:33
  tying,
• 5:34
  but
• 5:34
  also,
• 5:36
  I
• 5:36
  would
• 5:36
  say
• 5:36
  a
• 5:37
  mentor
• 5:37
  in
• 5:37
  the
• 5:37
  fact
• 5:38
  that
• 5:39
  a
• 5:39
  lot
• 5:39
  of
• 5:39
  what
• 5:40
  I
• 5:40
  am
• 5:40
  basing
• 5:40
  my
• 5:41
  business
• 5:41
  on
• 5:41
  today
• 5:42
  are
• 5:42
  things
• 5:43
  that
• 5:43
  I
• 5:43
  picked
• 5:43
  up
• 5:44
  from
• 5:44
  him.
• 5:45
  So
• 5:46
  I
• 5:46
  remember
• 5:46
  going
• 5:47
  into
• 5:47
  his
• 5:47
  shop,
• 5:47
  it
• 5:48
  was
• 5:48
  kind
• 5:48
  of
• 5:48
  a
• 5:48
  shoebox
• 5:49
  that
• 5:49
  was
• 5:50
  packed
• 5:50
  to
• 5:50
  the
• 5:50
  brim
• 5:51
  with
• 5:51
  time
• 5:52
  stuff,
• 5:53
  and
• 5:54
  he
• 5:54
  maintained
• 5:55
  a
• 5:55
  pretty
• 5:55
  low
• 5:55
  overhead
• 5:56
  and
• 5:56
  just
• 5:56
  put
• 5:56
  all
• 5:56
  the
• 5:57
  money
• 5:57
  into
• 5:57
  materials
• 5:58
  and
• 5:58
  inventory.
• 5:59
  And
• 5:59
  if
• 5:59
  you
• 6:00
  were
• 6:00
  excited
• 6:00
  about
• 6:00
  fly
• 6:01
  fishing
• 6:01
  and
• 6:01
  fly
• 6:01
  tying,
• 6:02
  you
• 6:02
  went
• 6:03
  out
• 6:03
  and
• 6:03
  you
• 6:03
  saw
• 6:03
  him
• 6:04
  and
• 6:04
  you
• 6:05
  enjoyed
• 6:05
  it
• 6:05
  out
• 6:05
  there.
• 6:06
  So
• 6:07
  anyway,
• 6:07
  he
• 6:08
  was
• 6:08
  a
• 6:08
  really
• 6:08
  influential
• 6:09
  person,
• 6:09
  too,
• 6:10
  and
• 6:11
  even
• 6:12
  allowed
• 6:12
  me
• 6:12
  to
• 6:12
  tie
• 6:13
  commercially
• 6:13
  for
• 6:13
  the
• 6:13
  shop
• 6:14
  when
• 6:14
  I
• 6:14
  was
• 6:14
  in
• 6:14
  high
• 6:14
  school.
• 6:15
  So
• 6:16
  those
• 6:16
  are
• 6:16
  some
• 6:16
  of
• 6:16
  my
• 6:17
  mentors.
• 6:17
  Yeah.
• 6:18
  Super
• 6:18
  neat.
• 6:19
  And
• 6:19
  so,
• 6:19
  you
• 6:19
  know,
• 6:20
  you've
• 6:20
  been
• 6:20
  lucky
• 6:20
  to
• 6:21
  fish,
• 6:21
  you
• 6:21
  know,
• 6:21
  on
• 6:21
  two
• 6:22
  coasts
• 6:22
  with,
• 6:22
  for
• 6:22
  a
• 6:23
  lot
• 6:23
  of
• 6:23
  different
• 6:24
  species,
• 6:24
  you
• 6:25
  know,
• 6:25
  which
• 6:25
  is
• 6:25
  your
• 6:25
  favorite
• 6:26
  one
• 6:26
  to
• 6:26
  chase
• 6:27
  on
• 6:27
  the
• 6:27
  fly.
• 6:29
  My
• 6:29
  absolute
• 6:30
  favorite
• 6:30
  thing
• 6:30
  to
• 6:31
  do
• 6:31
  is
• 6:31
  to
• 6:32
  wade
• 6:32
  fish
• 6:32
  alone
• 6:33
  for
• 6:33
  big
• 6:34
  brown
• 6:34
  trout.
• 6:35
  And
• 6:36
  there's
• 6:37
  a
• 6:37
  certain
• 6:38
  intimacy
• 6:38
  with
• 6:38
  the
• 6:39
  fish.
• 6:39
  There's
• 6:39
  a
• 6:40
  connectedness.
• 6:41
  I'm
• 6:42
  40
• 6:43
  now,
• 6:43
  so
• 6:43
  I
• 6:43
  still
• 6:44
  have
• 6:44
  the
• 6:44
  physical
• 6:45
  ability
• 6:45
  to
• 6:46
  run
• 6:46
  down
• 6:46
  a
• 6:46
  big
• 6:46
  brown
• 6:47
  trout.
• 6:48
  It's
• 6:49
  heart
• 6:49
  pounding,
• 6:50
  it's
• 6:51
  an
• 6:51
  adrenaline
• 6:52
  rush,
• 6:52
  and
• 6:52
  it's
• 6:52
  a
• 6:52
  bit
• 6:52
  of
• 6:53
  a
• 6:53
  chess
• 6:53
  match.
• 6:55
  It's
• 6:55
  just
• 6:55
  something
• 6:56
  that
• 6:56
  I
• 6:56
  get
• 6:56
  really
• 6:57
  amped
• 6:57
  up
• 6:57
  to
• 6:57
  do.
• 6:57
  I
• 6:58
  also
• 6:58
  like
• 6:58
  fishing
• 6:58
  for
• 6:59
  stripers
• 6:59
  and
• 6:59
  hybrids
• 7:00
  here
• 7:00
  and,
• 7:01
  and
• 7:01
  browns
• 7:01
  in
• 7:01
  the
• 7:01
  lakes
• 7:02
  and
• 7:02
  all
• 7:03
  kinds
• 7:03
  of
• 7:03
  things
• 7:03
  like
• 7:03
  that.
• 7:04
  But
• 7:04
  wade
• 7:05
  fishing
• 7:05
  for
• 7:06
  big
• 7:06
  brown
• 7:06
  trout
• 7:07
  is
• 7:07
  my
• 7:07
  absolute
• 7:07
  favorite
• 7:08
  thing
• 7:08
  to
• 7:08
  do.
• 7:09
  Very,
• 7:09
  very
• 7:09
  neat.
• 7:10
  And,
• 7:10
  you
• 7:10
  know,
• 7:10
  you
• 7:10
  touched
• 7:10
  on
• 7:11
  the
• 7:11
  fact
• 7:11
  that
• 7:11
  you,
• 7:11
  you
• 7:12
  know,
• 7:12
  kind
• 7:12
  of
• 7:13
  got
• 7:13
  a
• 7:13
  taste
• 7:13
  of
• 7:14
  fly
• 7:14
  tying
• 7:14
  when
• 7:14
  you
• 7:14
  were
• 7:15
  very,
• 7:15
  very
• 7:15
  little.
• 7:15
  And
• 7:16
  obviously,
• 7:16
  if
• 7:16
  you
• 7:16
  were
• 7:16
  tying
• 7:17
  commercially
• 7:17
  and
• 7:18
  you
• 7:18
  own
• 7:18
  a
• 7:18
  fly
• 7:18
  shop
• 7:19
  now
• 7:19
  with
• 7:20
  a
• 7:20
  big
• 7:20
  focus
• 7:20
  on
• 7:20
  fly
• 7:21
  tying,
• 7:22
  you
• 7:22
  know,
• 7:24
  tell
• 7:24
  us
• 7:24
  a
• 7:24
  little
• 7:24
  bit
• 7:24
  about
• 7:25
  kind
• 7:25
  of
• 7:25
  how
• 7:25
  you
• 7:25
  came
• 7:26
  back
• 7:26
  to
• 7:26
  fly
• 7:26
  tying
• 7:27
  the,
• 7:27
  you
• 7:27
  know,
• 7:28
  after
• 7:28
  being
• 7:28
  five
• 7:28
  or
• 7:29
  six
• 7:29
  years
• 7:29
  old.
• 7:31
  Yeah.
• 7:31
  Yeah.
• 7:31
  So
• 7:32
  again,
• 7:32
  started
• 7:32
  at
• 7:33
  five
• 7:33
  or
• 7:33
  six
• 7:33
  and
• 7:35
  came
• 7:35
  back
• 7:35
  to
• 7:35
  it
• 7:36
  really
• 7:36
  kind
• 7:36
  of
• 7:36
  around
• 7:36
  13.
• 7:37
  You
• 7:37
  know,
• 7:37
  my
• 7:38
  dad
• 7:38
  had
• 7:39
  hundreds
• 7:40
  of
• 7:40
  books
• 7:40
  in
• 7:40
  the
• 7:41
  house,
• 7:41
  and
• 7:41
  dozens
• 7:41
  of
• 7:42
  them
• 7:42
  were
• 7:42
  around
• 7:42
  fly
• 7:42
  fishing
• 7:43
  and
• 7:43
  fly
• 7:43
  tying.
• 7:44
  And
• 7:45
  I
• 7:45
  just
• 7:46
  consumed
• 7:46
  all
• 7:46
  of
• 7:47
  those
• 7:47
  and
• 7:48
  started
• 7:48
  going
• 7:49
  to
• 7:49
  that
• 7:49
  local
• 7:49
  fly
• 7:50
  shop
• 7:50
  and
• 7:50
  spending
• 7:51
  my
• 7:51
  allowance
• 7:51
  there.
• 7:53
  And
• 7:53
  that's
• 7:53
  a
• 7:53
  habit
• 7:54
  that
• 7:54
  I
• 7:54
  developed
• 7:55
  that
• 7:55
  has
• 7:55
  continued
• 7:56
  for,
• 7:56
  you
• 7:56
  know,
• 7:57
  27
• 7:57
  years.
• 7:59
  It's
• 8:00
  been
• 8:00
  kind
• 8:00
  of
• 8:00
  an
• 8:00
  ever
• 8:01
  evolving
• 8:01
  passion.
• 8:02
  And
• 8:02
  every
• 8:02
  time
• 8:02
  I've
• 8:02
  moved
• 8:03
  and
• 8:03
  moved
• 8:03
  to
• 8:03
  a
• 8:03
  new
• 8:04
  fishery,
• 8:04
  it's
• 8:05
  a
• 8:05
  way
• 8:05
  for
• 8:06
  me
• 8:06
  to
• 8:06
  kind
• 8:06
  of
• 8:06
  figure
• 8:07
  out
• 8:07
  the
• 8:07
  new
• 8:07
  area
• 8:07
  and
• 8:08
  get
• 8:08
  really
• 8:08
  connected
• 8:08
  with
• 8:09
  it.
• 8:11
  And
• 8:11
  you
• 8:11
  know,
• 8:12
  even
• 8:13
  during
• 8:13
  periods
• 8:13
  of
• 8:13
  my
• 8:14
  life
• 8:14
  where
• 8:15
  I
• 8:15
  haven't
• 8:15
  been
• 8:16
  able
• 8:16
  to
• 8:16
  fish
• 8:17
  all
• 8:17
  the
• 8:17
  time
• 8:18
  or
• 8:18
  every
• 8:18
  day
• 8:19
  or
• 8:19
  every
• 8:19
  week
• 8:20
  or
• 8:20
  month,
• 8:21
  it's
• 8:21
  really
• 8:21
  a
• 8:21
  way
• 8:21
  that
• 8:22
  I've
• 8:22
  been
• 8:22
  able
• 8:22
  to
• 8:22
  stay
• 8:23
  connected
• 8:23
  with
• 8:23
  what
• 8:24
  I
• 8:24
  like
• 8:24
  to
• 8:24
  do.
• 8:25
  So,
• 8:26
  I
• 8:26
  mean,
• 8:26
  I
• 8:26
  have
• 8:27
  really
• 8:27
  vivid
• 8:27
  memories
• 8:28
  of
• 8:28
  sitting
• 8:28
  at
• 8:28
  my
• 8:29
  tying
• 8:29
  bench
• 8:30
  thinking
• 8:30
  of
• 8:31
  as
• 8:31
  I'm
• 8:31
  tying
• 8:31
  a
• 8:32
  split
• 8:32
  back
• 8:32
  nymph,
• 8:33
  thinking
• 8:33
  about
• 8:33
  the
• 8:34
  specific
• 8:34
  ripple
• 8:35
  here
• 8:35
  in
• 8:35
  the
• 8:35
  South
• 8:36
  Holston
• 8:36
  and
• 8:36
  the
• 8:37
  specific
• 8:37
  trout
• 8:37
  that
• 8:38
  I'm
• 8:38
  targeting
• 8:39
  with
• 8:39
  that
• 8:39
  nymph.
• 8:41
  So
• 8:41
  it's
• 8:42
  a
• 8:43
  habit
• 8:43
  that
• 8:43
  has
• 8:43
  served
• 8:44
  me
• 8:44
  well
• 8:44
  over
• 8:44
  the
• 8:45
  years.
• 8:46
  Very,
• 8:46
  very
• 8:46
  neat.
• 8:46
  Any
• 8:47
  kind
• 8:47
  of
• 8:47
  notable
• 8:48
  mentors
• 8:48
  or
• 8:49
  people
• 8:49
  that
• 8:49
  influenced
• 8:49
  you
• 8:50
  on
• 8:50
  your
• 8:50
  flight
• 8:50
  time
• 8:50
  journey?
• 8:52
  Yeah,
• 8:53
  yeah.
• 8:53
  You
• 8:54
  know,
• 8:54
  I
• 8:54
  would,
• 8:54
  I
• 8:54
  would
• 8:55
  say
• 8:57
  that
• 8:57
  group
• 8:58
  out
• 8:58
  of
• 8:58
  Raleigh,
• 8:59
  Durham,
• 8:59
  Chapel
• 8:59
  Hill,
• 8:59
  the
• 9:00
  Triangle
• 9:00
  Fly
• 9:00
  Fishers,
• 9:01
  we
• 9:01
  got
• 9:01
  together
• 9:02
  and
• 9:02
  did
• 9:03
  a
• 9:03
  beer
• 9:03
  tying
• 9:03
  event.
• 9:04
  They're
• 9:04
  still
• 9:04
  doing
• 9:04
  it.
• 9:05
  It's
• 9:06
  been
• 9:06
  going
• 9:06
  on
• 9:06
  for,
• 9:07
  gosh,
• 9:07
  I
• 9:07
  don't
• 9:07
  know,
• 9:07
  20,
• 9:08
  maybe
• 9:09
  longer
• 9:09
  than
• 9:10
  that
• 9:10
  years.
• 9:11
  And
• 9:12
  everybody
• 9:12
  in
• 9:12
  there
• 9:13
  has
• 9:13
  been
• 9:13
  influential.
• 9:14
  We'll
• 9:14
  get
• 9:14
  together
• 9:15
  and
• 9:15
  kind
• 9:15
  of
• 9:15
  show
• 9:16
  each
• 9:16
  other
• 9:16
  patterns
• 9:17
  and
• 9:17
  ways
• 9:17
  of
• 9:17
  doing
• 9:17
  things.
• 9:19
  Couple
• 9:20
  folks
• 9:20
  from
• 9:20
  that
• 9:20
  group,
• 9:21
  Malcolm
• 9:21
  Finlayson,
• 9:22
  Dave
• 9:22
  Bussell,
• 9:23
  Harry
• 9:23
  Bales,
• 9:25
  all
• 9:25
  focused
• 9:26
  a
• 9:26
  lot
• 9:26
  on
• 9:27
  these
• 9:27
  rivers
• 9:27
  out
• 9:28
  here.
• 9:28
  And
• 9:28
  then
• 9:28
  Preston
• 9:29
  McQueen
• 9:30
  is
• 9:30
  a
• 9:31
  really
• 9:31
  creative
• 9:31
  tiger
• 9:31
  from
• 9:32
  that
• 9:32
  group
• 9:32
  too
• 9:32
  and
• 9:33
  influenced
• 9:34
  me
• 9:34
  in
• 9:34
  a
• 9:34
  number
• 9:35
  of
• 9:35
  ways.
• 9:36
  Neat.
• 9:37
  And
• 9:37
  you
• 9:37
  know,
• 9:37
  it's
• 9:37
  kind
• 9:37
  of
• 9:37
  funny,
• 9:38
  right?
• 9:38
  So
• 9:39
  you
• 9:39
  were
• 9:39
  in
• 9:39
  the,
• 9:40
  let's
• 9:40
  just
• 9:40
  say
• 9:40
  the
• 9:40
  real
• 9:41
  world
• 9:42
  in
• 9:42
  the
• 9:42
  Triangle
• 9:43
  and
• 9:44
  you're
• 9:44
  clearly
• 9:45
  obsessed
• 9:45
  with
• 9:45
  fly
• 9:46
  fishing
• 9:46
  and
• 9:46
  fly
• 9:46
  time.
• 9:47
  But
• 9:47
  that
• 9:47
  doesn't
• 9:47
  really
• 9:48
  translate
• 9:48
  into
• 9:48
  like
• 9:49
  saying
• 9:49
  we're
• 9:49
  going
• 9:49
  to
• 9:49
  leave
• 9:49
  the
• 9:50
  Triangle,
• 9:50
  going
• 9:51
  to
• 9:51
  move
• 9:51
  to
• 9:51
  East
• 9:51
  Tennessee
• 9:52
  and
• 9:52
  open
• 9:52
  a
• 9:52
  fly
• 9:53
  shop.
• 9:53
  Tell
• 9:53
  us
• 9:53
  a
• 9:53
  little
• 9:53
  bit
• 9:53
  about
• 9:54
  that.
• 9:55
  Yeah,
• 9:56
  so
• 9:56
  it's
• 9:56
  been
• 9:56
  a
• 9:56
  long
• 9:57
  time
• 9:57
  in
• 9:57
  coming.
• 9:58
  I
• 9:59
  started
• 9:59
  fishing
• 9:59
  out
• 9:59
  here
• 10:00
  probably
• 10:00
  around
• 10:00
  2009
• 10:03
  and
• 10:03
  as
• 10:03
  I
• 10:03
  got
• 10:03
  to
• 10:04
  learn
• 10:04
  the
• 10:04
  fishery
• 10:05
  and
• 10:06
  be
• 10:06
  out
• 10:06
  here,
• 10:07
  I
• 10:07
  just
• 10:07
  started
• 10:08
  coming
• 10:08
  out
• 10:08
  here
• 10:08
  as
• 10:08
  often
• 10:08
  as
• 10:09
  I
• 10:09
  could
• 10:10
  in
• 10:10
  2016,
• 10:11
  I
• 10:11
  think
• 10:11
  my
• 10:12
  wife
• 10:12
  and
• 10:12
  I
• 10:13
  came
• 10:13
  over
• 10:13
  here
• 10:14
  from
• 10:14
  the
• 10:14
  Triangle
• 10:15
  and
• 10:15
  for
• 10:15
  those
• 10:16
  folks
• 10:16
  who
• 10:16
  don't
• 10:16
  know,
• 10:17
  that's
• 10:17
  a
• 10:17
  four
• 10:17
  hour
• 10:18
  plus
• 10:18
  drive.
• 10:19
  We
• 10:19
  came
• 10:19
  over
• 10:20
  here
• 10:20
  over
• 10:20
  20
• 10:21
  weekends
• 10:21
  in
• 10:22
  one
• 10:22
  year.
• 10:23
  So
• 10:23
  we've
• 10:24
  been
• 10:24
  pretty
• 10:24
  enamored
• 10:24
  with
• 10:25
  this
• 10:25
  area
• 10:25
  for
• 10:25
  a
• 10:25
  long
• 10:25
  time.
• 10:27
  We
• 10:27
  did
• 10:27
  a
• 10:27
  brief
• 10:28
  stint
• 10:28
  in
• 10:28
  Richmond,
• 10:29
  but
• 10:30
  finally
• 10:30
  moved
• 10:30
  out
• 10:30
  here
• 10:31
  full
• 10:31
  time
• 10:31
  in
• 10:31
  2020,
• 10:32
  right
• 10:32
  around
• 10:33
  the
• 10:33
  onset
• 10:33
  of
• 10:34
  COVID
• 10:35
  So
• 10:35
  we've
• 10:36
  been
• 10:36
  out
• 10:36
  here
• 10:36
  for
• 10:36
  a
• 10:36
  few
• 10:37
  years,
• 10:37
  but
• 10:37
  a
• 10:37
  few
• 10:38
  things
• 10:38
  came
• 10:39
  together
• 10:39
  at
• 10:39
  once.
• 10:40
  You
• 10:41
  know,
• 10:42
  a
• 10:42
  lot
• 10:43
  of
• 10:43
  my
• 10:43
  background
• 10:43
  is
• 10:44
  more
• 10:44
  Kind
• 10:44
  of
• 10:44
  corporate,
• 10:45
  and
• 10:46
  I
• 10:47
  was
• 10:47
  looking
• 10:47
  for
• 10:47
  something
• 10:47
  else
• 10:48
  to
• 10:48
  do.
• 10:49
  My
• 10:50
  daughter
• 10:50
  was
• 10:50
  starting
• 10:50
  kindergarten,
• 10:51
  so
• 10:52
  my
• 10:52
  wife
• 10:52
  and
• 10:52
  I
• 10:53
  were
• 10:53
  both
• 10:53
  going
• 10:54
  to
• 10:54
  be
• 10:54
  able
• 10:54
  to
• 10:54
  work
• 10:54
  in
• 10:54
  the
• 10:55
  business.
• 10:55
  We'd
• 10:56
  saved
• 10:56
  up
• 10:56
  some
• 10:56
  money
• 10:57
  to
• 10:57
  stock
• 10:57
  inventory.
• 10:59
  And
• 10:59
  then
• 10:59
  another
• 11:00
  big
• 11:00
  thing,
• 11:00
  to
• 11:00
  be
• 11:00
  completely
• 11:01
  honest,
• 11:01
  is
• 11:02
  we'd
• 11:02
  lived
• 11:02
  here
• 11:02
  for
• 11:02
  four
• 11:03
  years.
• 11:03
  I'd
• 11:04
  always
• 11:04
  been
• 11:04
  terrified
• 11:05
  of
• 11:06
  getting
• 11:06
  into
• 11:06
  the
• 11:06
  industry
• 11:07
  because
• 11:07
  I
• 11:07
  was
• 11:07
  afraid
• 11:08
  of
• 11:09
  burning
• 11:09
  out
• 11:09
  on
• 11:09
  it,
• 11:10
  to
• 11:10
  be
• 11:10
  quite
• 11:10
  frank.
• 11:12
  Some
• 11:12
  people
• 11:12
  you
• 11:12
  see
• 11:13
  get
• 11:13
  into
• 11:13
  it
• 11:13
  and
• 11:15
  after
• 11:15
  a
• 11:15
  few
• 11:16
  years,
• 11:16
  they
• 11:18
  decide
• 11:19
  that
• 11:20
  when
• 11:20
  your
• 11:21
  passion
• 11:21
  turns
• 11:21
  into
• 11:22
  a
• 11:22
  job,
• 11:22
  it
• 11:22
  can
• 11:22
  kind
• 11:23
  of
• 11:24
  put
• 11:24
  a
• 11:24
  damper
• 11:25
  on
• 11:25
  it
• 11:25
  a
• 11:25
  little
• 11:25
  bit.
• 11:26
  And
• 11:26
  I
• 11:26
  mean,
• 11:27
  I've
• 11:27
  been
• 11:27
  out
• 11:27
  here
• 11:28
  four
• 11:28
  years
• 11:28
  fishing
• 11:29
  every
• 11:29
  second
• 11:30
  that
• 11:30
  I
• 11:30
  can,
• 11:30
  and
• 11:31
  it
• 11:31
  has
• 11:31
  not
• 11:31
  gotten
• 11:32
  boring.
• 11:32
  It
• 11:32
  still
• 11:32
  feels
• 11:33
  like
• 11:33
  Christmas
• 11:33
  whenever
• 11:34
  I
• 11:34
  get
• 11:34
  to
• 11:34
  go
• 11:34
  out.
• 11:34
  So
• 11:35
  got
• 11:35
  over
• 11:36
  that.
• 11:36
  And
• 11:37
  then
• 11:37
  the
• 11:37
  last
• 11:38
  piece
• 11:38
  of
• 11:38
  the
• 11:38
  puzzle
• 11:38
  really
• 11:39
  was
• 11:39
  kind
• 11:39
  of
• 11:40
  seeing
• 11:40
  the
• 11:41
  opportunity,
• 11:42
  which
• 11:42
  we'll
• 11:42
  see
• 11:42
  how
• 11:43
  it
• 11:43
  plays
• 11:43
  out.
• 11:43
  We're
• 11:44
  about
• 11:44
  two
• 11:44
  months
• 11:44
  in,
• 11:45
  but
• 11:46
  you
• 11:46
  know,
• 11:46
  honestly,
• 11:48
  really
• 11:48
  well
• 11:49
  stocked
• 11:49
  fly
• 11:50
  shops
• 11:51
  that
• 11:51
  have
• 11:52
  tying
• 11:52
  material
• 11:53
  I
• 11:53
  feel
• 11:53
  like
• 11:53
  are
• 11:54
  kind
• 11:54
  of
• 11:54
  a
• 11:54
  dying
• 11:55
  breed.
• 11:56
  And
• 11:56
  I
• 11:57
  mean,
• 11:57
  even
• 11:57
  talking
• 11:57
  with
• 11:58
  the
• 11:58
  folks
• 11:58
  that
• 11:59
  I
• 11:59
  still
• 11:59
  know
• 11:59
  in
• 11:59
  the
• 11:59
  triangle,
• 12:01
  you
• 12:01
  know,
• 12:01
  they
• 12:02
  have
• 12:02
  a
• 12:02
  hard
• 12:02
  time
• 12:03
  getting
• 12:03
  materials
• 12:04
  between
• 12:05
  there
• 12:05
  and
• 12:06
  here,
• 12:07
  between
• 12:07
  the
• 12:07
  coast
• 12:08
  and
• 12:08
  here.
• 12:09
  And,
• 12:10
  you
• 12:10
  know,
• 12:10
  carrying
• 12:11
  a
• 12:11
  ton
• 12:11
  of
• 12:11
  flight
• 12:11
  time
• 12:12
  materials
• 12:12
  kind
• 12:12
  of
• 12:12
  sucks
• 12:12
  as
• 12:13
  a
• 12:13
  business
• 12:13
  model.
• 12:14
  You're
• 12:14
  trying
• 12:14
  to
• 12:14
  sell,
• 12:15
  you
• 12:15
  know,
• 12:15
  500
• 12:16
  spools
• 12:16
  of
• 12:16
  thread
• 12:17
  instead
• 12:17
  of
• 12:17
  one
• 12:18
  rod,
• 12:19
  but
• 12:20
  I
• 12:20
  feel
• 12:20
  like
• 12:20
  it
• 12:20
  really
• 12:20
  kind
• 12:21
  of
• 12:21
  captures
• 12:21
  the
• 12:21
  soul
• 12:22
  of
• 12:22
  the
• 12:22
  sport.
• 12:23
  And
• 12:24
  if
• 12:24
  you
• 12:25
  talk
• 12:25
  to
• 12:25
  the
• 12:25
  most
• 12:26
  serious
• 12:26
  fly
• 12:27
  fishermen
• 12:27
  out
• 12:27
  there,
• 12:28
  you
• 12:28
  know,
• 12:28
  probably
• 12:28
  9
• 12:29
  out
• 12:29
  of
• 12:29
  10,
• 12:29
  if
• 12:29
  not
• 12:30
  more
• 12:30
  tie.
• 12:31
  So.
• 12:32
  So
• 12:33
  anyway,
• 12:33
  it's
• 12:33
  just
• 12:33
  something
• 12:34
  I've
• 12:34
  been
• 12:34
  really
• 12:34
  excited
• 12:35
  about.
• 12:36
  Have
• 12:36
  a
• 12:36
  fly
• 12:37
  shop
• 12:37
  like
• 12:37
  that
• 12:38
  work
• 12:38
  you.
• 12:38
  You
• 12:38
  need
• 12:39
  a
• 12:39
  few
• 12:39
  things
• 12:41
  and
• 12:42
  especially
• 12:44
  a
• 12:44
  community,
• 12:45
  you
• 12:45
  know,
• 12:46
  locally,
• 12:46
  we've
• 12:46
  got
• 12:47
  at
• 12:47
  least
• 12:47
  100
• 12:48
  fly
• 12:48
  fishing
• 12:49
  guides.
• 12:50
  We've
• 12:50
  got
• 12:50
  a
• 12:50
  bunch
• 12:50
  of
• 12:51
  people
• 12:51
  who
• 12:52
  live
• 12:52
  here.
• 12:53
  Some
• 12:53
  of
• 12:53
  them
• 12:54
  live
• 12:54
  here
• 12:54
  for
• 12:54
  the
• 12:54
  fishing,
• 12:55
  some
• 12:55
  of
• 12:55
  them
• 12:56
  live
• 12:56
  here
• 12:56
  coincidentally,
• 12:57
  but
• 12:57
  have
• 12:57
  picked
• 12:58
  up
• 12:58
  on
• 12:58
  it
• 12:58
  and
• 12:58
  just
• 12:58
  fish
• 12:59
  as
• 12:59
  much
• 12:59
  as
• 12:59
  they
• 13:00
  can.
• 13:00
  And
• 13:00
  then
• 13:01
  we've
• 13:01
  got
• 13:01
  a
• 13:01
  bunch
• 13:01
  of
• 13:01
  people
• 13:02
  who
• 13:02
  travel
• 13:02
  to
• 13:02
  the
• 13:03
  area,
• 13:04
  and
• 13:05
  a
• 13:05
  lot
• 13:05
  of
• 13:05
  them
• 13:06
  don't
• 13:06
  have
• 13:06
  a
• 13:06
  whole
• 13:07
  wall
• 13:07
  of
• 13:07
  whiting
• 13:08
  hackle
• 13:08
  back
• 13:09
  home,
• 13:09
  you
• 13:09
  know.
• 13:09
  So
• 13:10
  I'm
• 13:10
  hoping
• 13:11
  between
• 13:11
  those
• 13:11
  three
• 13:11
  groups
• 13:12
  that
• 13:12
  we
• 13:13
  can
• 13:13
  kind
• 13:13
  of
• 13:13
  support
• 13:14
  a
• 13:15
  shop
• 13:15
  like
• 13:15
  this.
• 13:16
  And
• 13:16
  it's
• 13:16
  early,
• 13:17
  but
• 13:17
  it
• 13:17
  seems
• 13:17
  to
• 13:17
  be.
• 13:18
  Seems
• 13:18
  to
• 13:18
  be
• 13:19
  working
• 13:19
  so
• 13:19
  far.
• 13:20
  Yeah.
• 13:20
  It's
• 13:20
  interesting
• 13:21
  you
• 13:21
  say
• 13:21
  that
• 13:21
  because,
• 13:21
  I
• 13:21
  mean,
• 13:21
  I
• 13:22
  would
• 13:22
  say,
• 13:22
  you
• 13:22
  know,
• 13:22
  in
• 13:23
  Charlotte
• 13:23
  we
• 13:24
  have
• 13:24
  outdoor
• 13:24
  stores,
• 13:25
  but
• 13:25
  we
• 13:25
  don't
• 13:26
  have
• 13:26
  a
• 13:26
  fly
• 13:26
  shop.
• 13:27
  Right.
• 13:28
  And
• 13:28
  you
• 13:28
  know,
• 13:29
  to
• 13:29
  Your
• 13:29
  point?
• 13:30
  I
• 13:30
  mean,
• 13:30
  it's
• 13:30
  a
• 13:30
  phenomenal
• 13:31
  challenge.
• 13:33
  I
• 13:33
  mean,
• 13:34
  I
• 13:34
  know
• 13:34
  because
• 13:34
  I've
• 13:34
  been
• 13:35
  watching
• 13:35
  your
• 13:35
  Instagram
• 13:35
  feed.
• 13:36
  I
• 13:36
  mean,
• 13:36
  you're
• 13:36
  spending
• 13:36
  a
• 13:36
  ton
• 13:37
  of
• 13:37
  money
• 13:37
  on
• 13:37
  inventory,
• 13:38
  right?
• 13:39
  Yeah.
• 13:40
  And
• 13:40
  it's
• 13:41
  really
• 13:41
  awesome
• 13:41
  because
• 13:42
  one
• 13:42
  of
• 13:42
  the
• 13:42
  big
• 13:42
  frustrations
• 13:43
  is
• 13:43
  if
• 13:43
  when
• 13:43
  you
• 13:43
  go
• 13:44
  into
• 13:44
  a
• 13:44
  store
• 13:46
  that
• 13:46
  doesn't
• 13:47
  have
• 13:47
  what
• 13:47
  you
• 13:47
  need,
• 13:48
  then
• 13:48
  generally
• 13:49
  what
• 13:49
  happens
• 13:49
  is
• 13:49
  you
• 13:49
  end
• 13:49
  up
• 13:50
  pulling
• 13:50
  out
• 13:50
  the
• 13:50
  stock
• 13:50
  J.
• 13:51
  Stockard
• 13:51
  catalog
• 13:52
  or
• 13:52
  Feathercraft,
• 13:52
  and
• 13:52
  you
• 13:53
  make
• 13:53
  all
• 13:53
  those
• 13:53
  purchases
• 13:54
  there,
• 13:54
  right.
• 13:55
  And
• 13:56
  you.
• 13:56
  And,
• 13:56
  you
• 13:56
  know,
• 13:58
  and
• 13:58
  that's
• 13:58
  even
• 13:58
  before
• 13:59
  you
• 13:59
  go
• 13:59
  down
• 13:59
  the
• 13:59
  rat
• 13:59
  hole
• 14:00
  of
• 14:00
  like,
• 14:00
  who
• 14:00
  do
• 14:00
  you
• 14:00
  trust
• 14:00
  to
• 14:01
  send
• 14:01
  you
• 14:01
  natural
• 14:01
  materials?
• 14:03
  So,
• 14:04
  you
• 14:04
  know,
• 14:04
  I
• 14:05
  think
• 14:05
  you've
• 14:05
  got
• 14:05
  a
• 14:05
  great
• 14:05
  fishery,
• 14:06
  I
• 14:06
  would
• 14:06
  say.
• 14:06
  I'm
• 14:06
  sure
• 14:07
  you've
• 14:07
  got
• 14:07
  an
• 14:07
  E
• 14:07
  Commerce
• 14:08
  solution
• 14:08
  coming
• 14:09
  which
• 14:10
  is
• 14:10
  going
• 14:10
  to,
• 14:10
  you
• 14:10
  know,
• 14:11
  I
• 14:11
  imagine,
• 14:12
  help
• 14:12
  you
• 14:12
  sell
• 14:13
  spools
• 14:14
  of
• 14:14
  Viva's
• 14:14
  thread,
• 14:15
  Right?
• 14:16
  Yeah,
• 14:16
  yeah,
• 14:17
  absolutely.
• 14:18
  Absolutely.
• 14:18
  Yeah.
• 14:19
  So,
• 14:19
  you
• 14:19
  know,
• 14:19
  you're
• 14:20
  spot
• 14:20
  on.
• 14:20
  Yeah.
• 14:21
  So
• 14:21
  as
• 14:21
  you
• 14:21
  mentioned,
• 14:22
  right,
• 14:22
  you've
• 14:22
  been
• 14:22
  open
• 14:22
  for
• 14:23
  about
• 14:23
  two
• 14:23
  months
• 14:24
  now,
• 14:24
  officially.
• 14:24
  You
• 14:25
  know,
• 14:25
  what's
• 14:25
  been
• 14:25
  the
• 14:25
  biggest
• 14:26
  challenge
• 14:26
  or
• 14:26
  surprise
• 14:26
  so
• 14:27
  far?
• 14:28
  You
• 14:29
  know,
• 14:30
  I'll
• 14:30
  mention
• 14:30
  a
• 14:30
  couple
• 14:31
  of
• 14:31
  things.
• 14:31
  You
• 14:31
  know,
• 14:31
  one,
• 14:32
  every.
• 14:32
  Everything
• 14:33
  always
• 14:33
  takes
• 14:33
  more
• 14:33
  time
• 14:34
  and
• 14:34
  effort
• 14:34
  than
• 14:34
  you
• 14:34
  think
• 14:34
  is
• 14:35
  going
• 14:35
  to
• 14:36
  in
• 14:36
  life,
• 14:36
  period.
• 14:37
  If
• 14:37
  you're
• 14:37
  kind
• 14:37
  of
• 14:37
  an
• 14:38
  optimistic
• 14:38
  person.
• 14:40
  Two
• 14:42
  has
• 14:42
  been
• 14:42
  honestly
• 14:43
  keeping
• 14:43
  pace
• 14:43
  with
• 14:44
  demand.
• 14:45
  I
• 14:45
  feel
• 14:46
  like
• 14:46
  I've
• 14:46
  been
• 14:47
  running
• 14:47
  downhill
• 14:48
  full
• 14:48
  tilt
• 14:48
  and
• 14:49
  just
• 14:49
  trying
• 14:49
  to
• 14:49
  keep
• 14:49
  my
• 14:49
  feet
• 14:50
  under
• 14:50
  me.
• 14:51
  We
• 14:51
  opened
• 14:52
  the
• 14:52
  shop
• 14:52
  way
• 14:53
  before
• 14:53
  I
• 14:53
  was
• 14:53
  comfortable
• 14:54
  doing
• 14:54
  it.
• 14:55
  We
• 14:55
  still
• 14:55
  have
• 14:56
  a
• 14:56
  bunch
• 14:56
  of
• 14:56
  furniture
• 14:56
  in
• 14:57
  here
• 14:57
  that
• 14:57
  I'm
• 14:57
  hoping
• 14:58
  to
• 14:58
  replace.
• 14:59
  But
• 15:00
  as
• 15:00
  we
• 15:00
  were
• 15:01
  hanging
• 15:01
  slatwall
• 15:02
  and
• 15:02
  just
• 15:02
  had
• 15:03
  piles
• 15:03
  of
• 15:03
  boxes
• 15:04
  with
• 15:05
  dubbing
• 15:06
  and
• 15:06
  hooks
• 15:06
  and
• 15:07
  everything
• 15:07
  in
• 15:07
  it,
• 15:08
  people
• 15:08
  were
• 15:08
  just
• 15:09
  walking
• 15:09
  through
• 15:09
  the
• 15:10
  door
• 15:10
  and
• 15:11
  disrupting
• 15:12
  my
• 15:13
  day
• 15:13
  setting
• 15:13
  up
• 15:14
  the
• 15:14
  shop
• 15:14
  to
• 15:14
  talk
• 15:15
  about
• 15:15
  fishing.
• 15:16
  And
• 15:16
  after
• 15:17
  the
• 15:17
  second
• 15:17
  or
• 15:17
  third
• 15:17
  person
• 15:18
  did
• 15:18
  that,
• 15:18
  I
• 15:18
  kind
• 15:18
  of
• 15:18
  figured
• 15:19
  out
• 15:19
  that,
• 15:20
  oh,
• 15:21
  nuts,
• 15:21
  I've
• 15:21
  got
• 15:22
  to
• 15:22
  get
• 15:22
  a
• 15:22
  point
• 15:22
  of
• 15:23
  sale
• 15:23
  system
• 15:23
  set
• 15:23
  up
• 15:24
  so
• 15:24
  that
• 15:24
  these
• 15:24
  people
• 15:24
  can
• 15:25
  start
• 15:25
  buying
• 15:25
  stuff.
• 15:26
  And
• 15:26
  it
• 15:26
  doesn't
• 15:27
  have
• 15:27
  to
• 15:27
  be
• 15:27
  perfect
• 15:28
  on
• 15:28
  day
• 15:28
  one.
• 15:28
  So
• 15:29
  kind
• 15:29
  of
• 15:30
  keeping
• 15:30
  pace
• 15:30
  with
• 15:31
  demand
• 15:31
  has
• 15:32
  been
• 15:32
  a
• 15:32
  big
• 15:33
  part
• 15:33
  of
• 15:33
  it,
• 15:33
  which
• 15:33
  is
• 15:33
  a
• 15:34
  good
• 15:34
  problem
• 15:34
  to
• 15:34
  have.
• 15:36
  But
• 15:36
  then
• 15:36
  the
• 15:36
  third,
• 15:37
  and
• 15:37
  probably
• 15:37
  on
• 15:37
  a
• 15:38
  more
• 15:38
  serious
• 15:38
  note,
• 15:38
  the
• 15:39
  other
• 15:39
  big
• 15:39
  surprise
• 15:40
  was
• 15:40
  Helene.
• 15:41
  Obviously,
• 15:43
  for
• 15:43
  those
• 15:43
  of
• 15:44
  you
• 15:44
  or
• 15:45
  those
• 15:45
  listeners
• 15:46
  who
• 15:46
  don't
• 15:46
  know
• 15:46
  this
• 15:47
  specific
• 15:47
  area,
• 15:50
  different
• 15:51
  watersheds
• 15:52
  within
• 15:52
  a
• 15:52
  very
• 15:53
  close
• 15:54
  proximity
• 15:55
  were
• 15:55
  affected
• 15:55
  really
• 15:56
  differently.
• 15:57
  So,
• 15:57
  you
• 15:58
  know,
• 15:58
  the
• 15:58
  shop
• 15:59
  is
• 15:59
  physically
• 16:00
  located
• 16:00
  right
• 16:00
  on
• 16:01
  the
• 16:01
  lower
• 16:01
  end
• 16:01
  of
• 16:01
  the
• 16:01
  South
• 16:02
  Holston,
• 16:02
  which
• 16:02
  fared
• 16:03
  relatively
• 16:04
  well
• 16:05
  through
• 16:05
  all
• 16:05
  of
• 16:05
  this.
• 16:07
  The
• 16:07
  Watauga,
• 16:08
  just
• 16:08
  a
• 16:08
  few
• 16:08
  miles
• 16:09
  away,
• 16:09
  is
• 16:09
  another
• 16:09
  one
• 16:09
  of
• 16:10
  our
• 16:10
  premier
• 16:10
  fisheries
• 16:11
  and
• 16:12
  that
• 16:12
  was
• 16:12
  really
• 16:13
  severely
• 16:13
  impacted
• 16:14
  by
• 16:14
  Helene.
• 16:16
  There's
• 16:17
  still
• 16:17
  a
• 16:17
  lot
• 16:17
  of
• 16:17
  muddy
• 16:18
  water
• 16:18
  coming
• 16:19
  out
• 16:19
  of
• 16:19
  Watauga
• 16:20
  Lake,
• 16:20
  which
• 16:20
  is
• 16:20
  really
• 16:20
  unfortunate.
• 16:21
  But
• 16:21
  it
• 16:22
  flooded
• 16:22
  a
• 16:22
  number
• 16:23
  of
• 16:23
  houses
• 16:24
  and
• 16:25
  lodges
• 16:25
  and
• 16:26
  other
• 16:26
  things
• 16:27
  like
• 16:27
  that.
• 16:28
  And
• 16:28
  then
• 16:28
  a
• 16:28
  bunch
• 16:28
  of
• 16:29
  the
• 16:29
  Freestone
• 16:30
  creeks.
• 16:31
  Just
• 16:32
  one
• 16:32
  example,
• 16:32
  the
• 16:33
  Doe
• 16:33
  river
• 16:33
  runs
• 16:33
  through
• 16:34
  Elizabethton
• 16:35
  and
• 16:35
  then
• 16:35
  into
• 16:35
  the
• 16:35
  Watauga.
• 16:36
  Today,
• 16:37
  I
• 16:37
  think
• 16:37
  that
• 16:37
  was
• 16:37
  running
• 16:38
  at
• 16:38
  145cfs
• 16:40
  during
• 16:41
  the
• 16:41
  peak
• 16:42
  flow
• 16:42
  of
• 16:42
  Helene,
• 16:42
  it
• 16:43
  hit
• 16:43
  20,000
• 16:44
  cfs
• 16:46
  and
• 16:46
  it
• 16:46
  flooded
• 16:47
  everything
• 16:48
  in
• 16:48
  the
• 16:48
  Watauga
• 16:49
  downstream
• 16:49
  of
• 16:49
  it.
• 16:50
  And
• 16:50
  then
• 16:51
  further
• 16:52
  down,
• 16:52
  some
• 16:52
  of
• 16:52
  the
• 16:52
  river
• 16:53
  systems
• 16:53
  you
• 16:53
  have,
• 16:53
  like
• 16:53
  the
• 16:53
  Nolachuckee,
• 16:54
  which
• 16:55
  was
• 16:55
  hit
• 16:56
  really,
• 16:56
  really
• 16:56
  hard.
• 16:57
  So,
• 16:59
  you
• 16:59
  know,
• 16:59
  the
• 17:00
  other
• 17:00
  thing
• 17:00
  is
• 17:01
  that
• 17:02
  these
• 17:02
  fisheries,
• 17:03
  that
• 17:04
  being
• 17:04
  the
• 17:04
  South
• 17:04
  Holston
• 17:05
  and
• 17:05
  Watauga,
• 17:06
  are
• 17:07
  good
• 17:07
  enough
• 17:08
  that
• 17:08
  they
• 17:08
  draw
• 17:08
  anglers
• 17:09
  from
• 17:09
  quite
• 17:09
  a
• 17:09
  ways.
• 17:10
  So
• 17:10
  there
• 17:11
  are
• 17:11
  outfitters,
• 17:13
  guides,
• 17:14
  people
• 17:14
  who
• 17:14
  are
• 17:15
  located
• 17:15
  in
• 17:16
  Asheville
• 17:16
  and
• 17:17
  further
• 17:17
  away
• 17:17
  who
• 17:18
  will
• 17:18
  travel
• 17:18
  up
• 17:18
  here
• 17:18
  with
• 17:19
  clients
• 17:19
  for
• 17:19
  the
• 17:19
  day.
• 17:20
  And
• 17:21
  all
• 17:21
  of
• 17:21
  those
• 17:21
  people
• 17:22
  were
• 17:23
  obviously
• 17:23
  severely
• 17:24
  affected.
• 17:24
  So
• 17:26
  navigating
• 17:27
  that
• 17:28
  was
• 17:29
  extremely
• 17:29
  difficult.
• 17:30
  We
• 17:30
  were
• 17:30
  extremely
• 17:31
  lucky.
• 17:32
  My
• 17:32
  house
• 17:33
  didn't
• 17:33
  have
• 17:33
  any
• 17:34
  damage,
• 17:34
  the
• 17:34
  shop
• 17:34
  didn't
• 17:35
  have
• 17:35
  any
• 17:35
  damage.
• 17:38
  We
• 17:38
  got
• 17:38
  extremely
• 17:39
  lucky.
• 17:39
  But
• 17:39
  there
• 17:40
  was
• 17:40
  a
• 17:40
  lot
• 17:40
  to
• 17:40
  navigate
• 17:41
  through,
• 17:42
  all
• 17:42
  of
• 17:42
  that.
• 17:43
  Yeah.
• 17:43
  And
• 17:44
  I
• 17:44
  would
• 17:44
  say,
• 17:44
  and
• 17:44
  I've
• 17:44
  been
• 17:45
  since
• 17:45
  you
• 17:46
  listen,
• 17:46
  you
• 17:46
  know,
• 17:46
  this
• 17:46
  on
• 17:46
  all
• 17:46
  the
• 17:47
  fishing
• 17:47
  reports
• 17:47
  and
• 17:48
  kind
• 17:48
  of
• 17:48
  where
• 17:48
  I
• 17:48
  can,
• 17:49
  you
• 17:49
  know,
• 17:50
  and,
• 17:50
  you
• 17:50
  know,
• 17:51
  there's
• 17:51
  a
• 17:51
  huge
• 17:52
  human
• 17:52
  tragedy
• 17:53
  to
• 17:53
  all
• 17:53
  of
• 17:53
  this,
• 17:55
  but
• 17:55
  then
• 17:55
  the
• 17:56
  economic
• 17:56
  tragedy
• 17:57
  is,
• 17:57
  you
• 17:57
  know,
• 17:58
  Southwest
• 17:59
  Virginia,
• 17:59
  east
• 18:00
  Tennessee,
• 18:00
  western
• 18:01
  North
• 18:01
  Carolina,
• 18:01
  a
• 18:02
  huge
• 18:02
  component
• 18:03
  of
• 18:03
  their
• 18:03
  economies.
• 18:03
  Their
• 18:04
  fall
• 18:04
  tourism
• 18:04
  season.
• 18:05
  Right.
• 18:06
  Which
• 18:07
  was
• 18:07
  absolutely
• 18:09
  devoured.
• 18:10
  And,
• 18:10
  you
• 18:10
  know,
• 18:10
  whether
• 18:10
  you're
• 18:11
  talking
• 18:11
  about
• 18:11
  being
• 18:11
  a
• 18:11
  month
• 18:12
  late
• 18:12
  with
• 18:12
  delayed
• 18:12
  harvest
• 18:13
  stockings
• 18:13
  and
• 18:14
  those
• 18:14
  couldn't
• 18:14
  happen
• 18:14
  everywhere.
• 18:16
  But,
• 18:17
  you
• 18:17
  know,
• 18:17
  what
• 18:17
  I
• 18:17
  would
• 18:17
  tell
• 18:17
  people,
• 18:18
  because
• 18:18
  I
• 18:18
  think
• 18:18
  a
• 18:18
  lot
• 18:18
  of
• 18:18
  people
• 18:19
  don't
• 18:19
  know,
• 18:19
  is
• 18:19
  that
• 18:19
  basically
• 18:20
  most
• 18:20
  of
• 18:20
  western
• 18:21
  North
• 18:21
  Carolina,
• 18:22
  southwest
• 18:23
  Virginia
• 18:23
  and
• 18:23
  East
• 18:23
  Tennessee
• 18:24
  are
• 18:24
  open
• 18:24
  for
• 18:24
  business.
• 18:25
  40s
• 18:26
  open.
• 18:26
  All
• 18:26
  the
• 18:26
  way
• 18:26
  across
• 18:27
  from
• 18:27
  North
• 18:27
  Carolina,
• 18:28
  26
• 18:29
  is
• 18:29
  open.
• 18:30
  So
• 18:31
  where
• 18:31
  maybe
• 18:33
  a
• 18:33
  week
• 18:33
  after
• 18:33
  you
• 18:34
  open
• 18:34
  the
• 18:34
  shop,
• 18:34
  you
• 18:34
  are
• 18:35
  going
• 18:35
  to
• 18:35
  have
• 18:35
  to
• 18:35
  drive
• 18:35
  six
• 18:36
  hours
• 18:36
  from
• 18:36
  Charlotte
• 18:36
  to
• 18:37
  get
• 18:37
  to
• 18:37
  Johnson
• 18:37
  City,
• 18:37
  because
• 18:37
  you're
• 18:38
  going
• 18:38
  to
• 18:38
  have
• 18:38
  to
• 18:38
  go
• 18:38
  up
• 18:38
  77
• 18:39
  and
• 18:39
  come
• 18:39
  down.
• 18:40
  That's
• 18:40
  just
• 18:41
  not
• 18:41
  true
• 18:41
  anymore.
• 18:43
  And
• 18:43
  so,
• 18:44
  you
• 18:44
  know,
• 18:44
  I
• 18:44
  completely
• 18:44
  get
• 18:45
  it.
• 18:45
  And
• 18:45
  I've
• 18:45
  been
• 18:45
  encouraging,
• 18:46
  you
• 18:46
  know,
• 18:46
  people
• 18:46
  one
• 18:47
  to
• 18:47
  visit
• 18:47
  the
• 18:47
  communities
• 18:47
  and
• 18:48
  spend
• 18:48
  money,
• 18:48
  but
• 18:48
  also
• 18:48
  to
• 18:49
  buy
• 18:49
  gift
• 18:49
  certificates
• 18:50
  and
• 18:50
  not
• 18:50
  to
• 18:50
  reschedule
• 18:51
  guide
• 18:51
  trips.
• 18:53
  Absolutely,
• 18:54
  absolutely.
• 18:54
  I
• 18:54
  would
• 18:55
  100%
• 18:55
  agree
• 18:55
  with
• 18:56
  that.
• 18:57
  You
• 18:57
  know,
• 18:57
  I've
• 18:57
  got
• 18:58
  one
• 18:58
  example
• 18:59
  of
• 18:59
  a
• 18:59
  guide
• 19:00
  who
• 19:00
  comes
• 19:00
  in
• 19:00
  here
• 19:00
  frequently.
• 19:01
  Literally
• 19:02
  during
• 19:02
  Helene,
• 19:03
  he
• 19:03
  had
• 19:03
  a
• 19:03
  tree
• 19:03
  fall
• 19:04
  on
• 19:04
  his
• 19:04
  house
• 19:05
  and
• 19:06
  you
• 19:06
  know,
• 19:07
  he
• 19:07
  had
• 19:07
  a
• 19:07
  guide
• 19:08
  trip
• 19:08
  the
• 19:08
  next
• 19:08
  day
• 19:09
  and
• 19:09
  he's
• 19:09
  kind
• 19:09
  of
• 19:10
  faced
• 19:10
  with
• 19:11
  a
• 19:11
  dilemma
• 19:11
  of
• 19:12
  what
• 19:12
  do
• 19:12
  I
• 19:13
  do?
• 19:14
  And
• 19:14
  you
• 19:15
  know,
• 19:15
  he
• 19:15
  has
• 19:15
  a
• 19:15
  family
• 19:15
  to
• 19:16
  feed
• 19:16
  and
• 19:16
  he
• 19:16
  elected
• 19:17
  to
• 19:17
  go
• 19:17
  out
• 19:17
  and
• 19:17
  take
• 19:17
  clients
• 19:18
  and
• 19:19
  put
• 19:20
  food
• 19:20
  on
• 19:20
  the
• 19:20
  table
• 19:20
  and
• 19:21
  hopefully
• 19:21
  have
• 19:22
  money
• 19:22
  when
• 19:22
  that
• 19:23
  repair
• 19:24
  bill
• 19:24
  comes
• 19:24
  in,
• 19:25
  you
• 19:25
  know.
• 19:25
  So
• 19:26
  anybody
• 19:26
  who's
• 19:27
  thinking
• 19:27
  about,
• 19:27
  you
• 19:28
  know,
• 19:29
  coming
• 19:29
  out
• 19:29
  here
• 19:30
  doing
• 19:30
  a
• 19:30
  guide
• 19:31
  trip,
• 19:31
  I
• 19:31
  would
• 19:31
  really
• 19:32
  encourage
• 19:32
  them
• 19:32
  to.
• 19:33
  One,
• 19:34
  because
• 19:34
  it's
• 19:34
  helpful
• 19:35
  for
• 19:35
  the
• 19:35
  economy
• 19:35
  and
• 19:36
  two,
• 19:37
  you
• 19:37
  can
• 19:37
  feel
• 19:37
  like
• 19:37
  you're
• 19:37
  doing
• 19:38
  something
• 19:38
  good.
• 19:38
  And
• 19:39
  three,
• 19:39
  the
• 19:39
  fishing
• 19:40
  has
• 19:41
  been
• 19:41
  pretty
• 19:41
  good
• 19:42
  and
• 19:43
  you
• 19:43
  know,
• 19:43
  not
• 19:44
  every
• 19:44
  single
• 19:44
  day
• 19:44
  is
• 19:44
  the
• 19:45
  same
• 19:45
  but
• 19:45
  we've
• 19:45
  had
• 19:46
  a
• 19:46
  lot
• 19:46
  of
• 19:46
  big
• 19:47
  fish
• 19:47
  put
• 19:47
  in
• 19:47
  the
• 19:47
  boat
• 19:48
  here
• 19:48
  over
• 19:48
  the
• 19:48
  last
• 19:48
  month
• 19:49
  or
• 19:49
  so.
• 19:49
  Yeah.
• 19:50
  And
• 19:50
  there's
• 19:50
  some
• 19:51
  great
• 19:51
  restaurants
• 19:51
  in
• 19:51
  Johnson
• 19:52
  City,
• 19:53
  you
• 19:53
  know,
• 19:53
  some
• 19:54
  neat
• 19:54
  places
• 19:54
  to
• 19:54
  stay.
• 19:54
  So
• 19:55
  you
• 19:55
  know,
• 19:55
  bring
• 19:55
  your,
• 19:56
  your
• 19:56
  non
• 19:56
  fishing
• 19:57
  friends
• 19:57
  with
• 19:57
  you
• 19:57
  and
• 19:58
  make
• 19:58
  a
• 19:58
  big
• 19:59
  weekend
• 19:59
  out
• 19:59
  of
• 19:59
  it.
• 20:01
  Absolutely,
• 20:02
  absolutely.
• 20:03
  And
• 20:03
  so,
• 20:03
  you
• 20:03
  know,
• 20:03
  I'm
• 20:04
  a
• 20:04
  bit
• 20:04
  of
• 20:04
  a
• 20:04
  shop
• 20:04
  rat
• 20:05
  and
• 20:06
  so
• 20:06
  I,
• 20:07
  you
• 20:07
  know,
• 20:07
  it's
• 20:07
  kind
• 20:07
  of
• 20:08
  what
• 20:08
  I
• 20:08
  do.
• 20:08
  And
• 20:09
  I
• 20:09
  also
• 20:09
  kind
• 20:10
  of
• 20:10
  know
• 20:10
  the
• 20:10
  game
• 20:11
  for
• 20:11
  how
• 20:11
  to
• 20:11
  get
• 20:11
  information
• 20:12
  out
• 20:12
  of
• 20:12
  fly
• 20:12
  shops
• 20:12
  when
• 20:12
  you
• 20:13
  travel
• 20:13
  and
• 20:14
  hint
• 20:14
  folks,
• 20:14
  it
• 20:14
  helps
• 20:15
  to
• 20:15
  buy
• 20:15
  stuff.
• 20:19
  I'll
• 20:19
  neither
• 20:20
  confirm
• 20:20
  nor
• 20:20
  deny,
• 20:21
  actually,
• 20:21
  I
• 20:21
  will
• 20:21
  confirm
• 20:22
  up
• 20:22
  front.
• 20:22
  Yeah.
• 20:23
  And
• 20:23
  I
• 20:23
  generally
• 20:23
  found
• 20:24
  that
• 20:24
  you
• 20:24
  get
• 20:24
  higher
• 20:24
  quality
• 20:25
  and
• 20:25
  more
• 20:25
  abundant
• 20:26
  information
• 20:26
  the
• 20:26
  more
• 20:26
  you
• 20:27
  spend.
• 20:27
  So
• 20:28
  there
• 20:29
  you
• 20:29
  go.
• 20:29
  I
• 20:29
  have
• 20:29
  lots
• 20:29
  of
• 20:30
  flies
• 20:30
  that
• 20:30
  I'll
• 20:30
  probably
• 20:30
  never
• 20:31
  fish
• 20:31
  again,
• 20:31
  but
• 20:31
  it's
• 20:31
  all
• 20:32
  okay.
• 20:34
  But
• 20:34
  you
• 20:34
  know,
• 20:34
  every
• 20:35
  shop
• 20:35
  has
• 20:35
  a
• 20:35
  personality
• 20:36
  and
• 20:36
  I
• 20:36
  know
• 20:36
  you're
• 20:37
  really
• 20:37
  young
• 20:38
  but
• 20:38
  you've
• 20:38
  kind
• 20:38
  of
• 20:39
  been
• 20:39
  around
• 20:39
  the
• 20:39
  sport
• 20:39
  and
• 20:40
  been
• 20:40
  in
• 20:40
  shops,
• 20:40
  you
• 20:40
  know,
• 20:41
  you
• 20:41
  know,
• 20:41
  what's
• 20:42
  the
• 20:42
  feel
• 20:42
  that
• 20:42
  you're
• 20:43
  going
• 20:43
  for
• 20:43
  with
• 20:43
  the
• 20:44
  shop
• 20:44
  and
• 20:44
  kind
• 20:44
  of
• 20:44
  what
• 20:44
  do
• 20:44
  you
• 20:44
  think
• 20:45
  you
• 20:45
  need
• 20:45
  to
• 20:45
  do?
• 20:45
  To
• 20:46
  quote,
• 20:47
  have
• 20:47
  a
• 20:47
  good
• 20:47
  fly
• 20:47
  shop.
• 20:49
  Yeah.
• 20:50
  So
• 20:51
  in
• 20:51
  terms
• 20:52
  of
• 20:52
  feel
• 20:53
  someone
• 20:54
  used
• 20:55
  this
• 20:55
  term
• 20:55
  and
• 20:55
  I'd
• 20:56
  say
• 20:56
  it's
• 20:56
  exactly
• 20:56
  what
• 20:56
  I'm
• 20:57
  going
• 20:57
  for.
• 20:57
  They,
• 20:57
  they
• 20:58
  said
• 20:58
  this
• 20:58
  almost
• 20:59
  feels
• 20:59
  overwhelming
• 21:00
  and
• 21:01
  that's
• 21:01
  exactly
• 21:01
  what
• 21:02
  I'm
• 21:02
  going
• 21:02
  for.
• 21:03
  What
• 21:03
  I'm
• 21:04
  hoping
• 21:04
  to
• 21:04
  do
• 21:04
  is
• 21:04
  have
• 21:05
  kind
• 21:05
  of
• 21:05
  a
• 21:06
  shoebox
• 21:06
  of
• 21:06
  a
• 21:07
  place.
• 21:07
  Hopefully
• 21:07
  it's
• 21:07
  not
• 21:08
  quite
• 21:08
  that
• 21:08
  small,
• 21:08
  but
• 21:09
  just
• 21:09
  jammed
• 21:10
  packed
• 21:11
  with
• 21:11
  as
• 21:11
  much
• 21:12
  stuff
• 21:12
  as
• 21:12
  you
• 21:12
  can
• 21:13
  physically
• 21:13
  cram
• 21:14
  into
• 21:14
  it.
• 21:15
  It's
• 21:15
  a
• 21:16
  place
• 21:16
  that's
• 21:16
  going
• 21:16
  to
• 21:16
  cater
• 21:17
  to
• 21:17
  serious
• 21:17
  fly
• 21:18
  fishers
• 21:18
  and
• 21:19
  have
• 21:19
  serious
• 21:19
  fly
• 21:20
  fishing
• 21:20
  equipment.
• 21:21
  Obviously
• 21:22
  a
• 21:22
  lot
• 21:22
  of
• 21:22
  that
• 21:22
  is
• 21:23
  tying
• 21:23
  stuff,
• 21:23
  but
• 21:24
  there's
• 21:24
  also
• 21:24
  a
• 21:24
  lot
• 21:24
  of
• 21:25
  kind
• 21:25
  of
• 21:25
  niche
• 21:25
  products
• 21:26
  that
• 21:27
  are
• 21:27
  just
• 21:28
  the
• 21:28
  best
• 21:28
  out
• 21:28
  there
• 21:29
  and
• 21:29
  they're
• 21:29
  really
• 21:29
  important
• 21:30
  for
• 21:30
  me
• 21:30
  to
• 21:30
  have.
• 21:30
  So
• 21:31
  for
• 21:31
  example,
• 21:32
  if
• 21:32
  you're
• 21:32
  into
• 21:32
  Euro
• 21:33
  Nymphing.
• 21:33
  I've
• 21:33
  got
• 21:34
  Pierre
• 21:34
  Sempe,
• 21:35
  which
• 21:35
  I
• 21:35
  bought
• 21:36
  straight
• 21:36
  from
• 21:36
  that
• 21:37
  company
• 21:37
  in
• 21:37
  France.
• 21:38
  I've
• 21:38
  got
• 21:38
  High
• 21:38
  and
• 21:39
  Dry
• 21:39
  floating.
• 21:39
  I've
• 21:40
  got
• 21:40
  Lefty
• 21:40
  Craze
• 21:41
  Secret
• 21:41
  Indicator
• 21:41
  yarn.
• 21:42
  There's
• 21:42
  all
• 21:42
  these
• 21:43
  niche
• 21:43
  little
• 21:43
  things
• 21:44
  that
• 21:45
  if
• 21:45
  you're
• 21:45
  real
• 21:46
  serious
• 21:46
  about
• 21:46
  it,
• 21:47
  I'm
• 21:47
  really
• 21:47
  hoping
• 21:48
  to
• 21:48
  have
• 21:48
  in
• 21:48
  stock.
• 21:50
  There's
• 21:51
  a
• 21:51
  lot
• 21:51
  of
• 21:51
  great
• 21:51
  fly
• 21:52
  shops
• 21:52
  with
• 21:52
  a
• 21:52
  lot
• 21:53
  of
• 21:53
  great,
• 21:53
  you
• 21:53
  know,
• 21:54
  their
• 21:54
  own
• 21:54
  characteristics.
• 21:56
  This
• 21:56
  is
• 21:56
  not
• 21:56
  a
• 21:57
  place
• 21:57
  to
• 21:57
  kind
• 21:57
  of
• 21:59
  after
• 21:59
  a
• 21:59
  day
• 21:59
  of
• 22:00
  fishing
• 22:00
  and
• 22:00
  relax
• 22:01
  and
• 22:01
  unwind
• 22:02
  and
• 22:02
  talk
• 22:02
  sports.
• 22:04
  This
• 22:05
  is
• 22:05
  a
• 22:05
  place
• 22:05
  where
• 22:06
  if
• 22:06
  you
• 22:07
  want
• 22:07
  to
• 22:07
  nerd
• 22:07
  out
• 22:08
  on
• 22:09
  optics
• 22:09
  under
• 22:10
  the
• 22:10
  water
• 22:11
  or
• 22:11
  some
• 22:11
  other
• 22:12
  aspect
• 22:12
  of
• 22:13
  fly
• 22:13
  fishing
• 22:13
  that's
• 22:14
  pretty
• 22:14
  deep
• 22:14
  and
• 22:14
  in
• 22:14
  the
• 22:14
  weeds,
• 22:15
  we're
• 22:16
  perfect.
• 22:16
  And
• 22:16
  I'll
• 22:16
  talk
• 22:17
  your
• 22:17
  ear
• 22:17
  off
• 22:17
  for
• 22:18
  an
• 22:18
  hour.
• 22:19
  But
• 22:20
  what
• 22:21
  I
• 22:21
  want
• 22:21
  people
• 22:21
  to
• 22:21
  have
• 22:22
  in
• 22:22
  here
• 22:22
  is
• 22:22
  just
• 22:23
  kind
• 22:23
  of
• 22:23
  a
• 22:23
  sense
• 22:23
  of
• 22:23
  awe,
• 22:24
  a
• 22:24
  sense
• 22:24
  of
• 22:25
  sensory
• 22:25
  overload.
• 22:27
  You
• 22:28
  know,
• 22:28
  we
• 22:28
  obviously
• 22:28
  want
• 22:28
  to
• 22:29
  be
• 22:29
  welcoming
• 22:29
  and
• 22:30
  helpful
• 22:30
  and
• 22:32
  be
• 22:32
  here
• 22:32
  if
• 22:32
  you're
• 22:32
  just
• 22:33
  getting
• 22:33
  into
• 22:33
  it,
• 22:33
  or
• 22:34
  if
• 22:35
  you're,
• 22:35
  you
• 22:35
  know,
• 22:35
  a
• 22:35
  guide
• 22:36
  or
• 22:36
  if
• 22:36
  your
• 22:36
  budget's
• 22:37
  $20
• 22:38
  or
• 22:38
  if
• 22:38
  it's
• 22:38
  $2,000.
• 22:40
  But,
• 22:41
  you
• 22:41
  know,
• 22:42
  we
• 22:42
  just
• 22:42
  want
• 22:42
  to
• 22:42
  have
• 22:43
  that
• 22:43
  high
• 22:44
  energy,
• 22:45
  overwhelming
• 22:46
  shop
• 22:46
  that
• 22:46
  you
• 22:47
  can
• 22:47
  be
• 22:47
  excited
• 22:47
  about.
• 22:48
  Very
• 22:49
  neat.
• 22:49
  And,
• 22:49
  you
• 22:49
  know,
• 22:50
  I've
• 22:50
  probably
• 22:50
  said
• 22:51
  it
• 22:51
  almost
• 22:51
  a
• 22:51
  half
• 22:52
  a
• 22:52
  dozen
• 22:52
  times
• 22:52
  at
• 22:52
  this
• 22:52
  point
• 22:53
  because
• 22:53
  I
• 22:54
  watch
• 22:54
  you
• 22:54
  on
• 22:54
  Instagram.
• 22:54
  You
• 22:55
  got
• 22:55
  a
• 22:55
  ton
• 22:55
  of
• 22:55
  stuff
• 22:55
  in
• 22:55
  your
• 22:56
  shop,
• 22:56
  right.
• 22:56
  And
• 22:56
  you
• 22:56
  just
• 22:57
  mentioned
• 22:57
  some
• 22:58
  really
• 22:59
  kind
• 22:59
  of,
• 22:59
  you
• 22:59
  know,
• 22:59
  nerdy
• 23:00
  propeller
• 23:00
  head
• 23:00
  stuff.
• 23:01
  Right.
• 23:01
  That
• 23:01
  gets
• 23:01
  guys
• 23:02
  really
• 23:02
  excited,
• 23:03
  which
• 23:03
  they'll
• 23:03
  be
• 23:03
  excited
• 23:04
  when
• 23:04
  your
• 23:04
  E
• 23:04
  Commerce
• 23:04
  solution
• 23:05
  shows
• 23:05
  up.
• 23:06
  But,
• 23:07
  you
• 23:07
  know,
• 23:07
  tell
• 23:08
  folks,
• 23:08
  kind
• 23:08
  of
• 23:08
  give
• 23:09
  them
• 23:09
  an
• 23:09
  idea
• 23:09
  of,
• 23:09
  you
• 23:09
  know,
• 23:10
  kind
• 23:10
  of
• 23:10
  what
• 23:10
  you're
• 23:10
  stocking
• 23:11
  kind
• 23:11
  of
• 23:11
  generally.
• 23:11
  So
• 23:11
  they
• 23:12
  just
• 23:12
  kind
• 23:12
  of
• 23:12
  have
• 23:12
  a
• 23:12
  feel
• 23:12
  for
• 23:13
  what's
• 23:13
  in
• 23:13
  the
• 23:13
  store.
• 23:15
  Yeah,
• 23:16
  yeah.
• 23:17
  So
• 23:17
  the
• 23:17
  name
• 23:18
  of
• 23:18
  the
• 23:18
  shop
• 23:18
  is
• 23:19
  Tailwaters
• 23:20
  Fly
• 23:20
  Shop.
• 23:21
  And
• 23:21
  that's
• 23:21
  intentional.
• 23:22
  And
• 23:22
  it's
• 23:22
  a
• 23:22
  slight
• 23:23
  reference
• 23:23
  to
• 23:23
  the
• 23:23
  South
• 23:23
  Holster
• 23:24
  in
• 23:24
  Watauga.
• 23:25
  But
• 23:26
  for
• 23:26
  those
• 23:26
  of
• 23:26
  you
• 23:27
  who
• 23:27
  don't
• 23:27
  know
• 23:28
  this
• 23:28
  region
• 23:28
  intimately,
• 23:29
  it's
• 23:29
  an
• 23:30
  area
• 23:30
  that's
• 23:30
  really
• 23:31
  impacted,
• 23:32
  I
• 23:32
  would
• 23:32
  argue,
• 23:33
  positively
• 23:33
  by
• 23:33
  the
• 23:34
  tva.
• 23:36
  And
• 23:36
  so
• 23:38
  there
• 23:38
  are
• 23:39
  many
• 23:39
  fisheries
• 23:40
  outside
• 23:40
  of
• 23:40
  those
• 23:41
  two
• 23:42
  that
• 23:42
  are
• 23:42
  just
• 23:43
  world
• 23:44
  class,
• 23:44
  to
• 23:44
  be
• 23:44
  completely
• 23:45
  honest.
• 23:46
  We've
• 23:46
  got
• 23:47
  great
• 23:47
  smallmouth
• 23:47
  fisheries,
• 23:48
  We've
• 23:48
  got
• 23:49
  other
• 23:49
  great
• 23:49
  trout
• 23:49
  fisheries,
• 23:50
  even
• 23:50
  kind
• 23:51
  of
• 23:51
  freestone
• 23:51
  stream
• 23:52
  stuff.
• 23:52
  Got
• 23:53
  musty
• 23:53
  fisheries,
• 23:54
  striper
• 23:54
  hybrid
• 23:57
  largemouth
• 23:58
  carp,
• 23:59
  pretty
• 24:00
  much
• 24:00
  anything
• 24:00
  you
• 24:00
  can
• 24:00
  ask
• 24:01
  for.
• 24:01
  And
• 24:01
  so
• 24:02
  everything
• 24:02
  we
• 24:03
  have
• 24:03
  in
• 24:03
  here
• 24:04
  is
• 24:04
  catered
• 24:04
  to
• 24:04
  those.
• 24:05
  So
• 24:05
  I
• 24:05
  would
• 24:05
  say
• 24:05
  the
• 24:05
  only
• 24:05
  thing
• 24:06
  that
• 24:06
  we
• 24:06
  don't
• 24:06
  really,
• 24:07
  you
• 24:07
  know,
• 24:08
  go
• 24:08
  out
• 24:08
  of
• 24:08
  our
• 24:08
  way
• 24:09
  to
• 24:09
  Specialize
• 24:09
  in
• 24:10
  is
• 24:10
  salt
• 24:10
  water
• 24:11
  and
• 24:11
  steelhead.
• 24:14
  Tons
• 24:15
  of
• 24:15
  tying
• 24:16
  stuff,
• 24:18
  great
• 24:18
  fly
• 24:19
  selection,
• 24:20
  and
• 24:20
  then
• 24:20
  all
• 24:20
  of
• 24:20
  those
• 24:21
  niche
• 24:21
  little
• 24:23
  components.
• 24:24
  I
• 24:24
  mean,
• 24:24
  one
• 24:24
  thing,
• 24:25
  for
• 24:25
  example,
• 24:25
  that
• 24:25
  you
• 24:26
  don't
• 24:26
  find
• 24:26
  in
• 24:26
  many
• 24:26
  fly
• 24:27
  shops
• 24:27
  anymore
• 24:27
  is
• 24:28
  Maxima
• 24:29
  Chameleon
• 24:29
  for
• 24:29
  building
• 24:30
  leaders.
• 24:30
  And
• 24:31
  we've
• 24:31
  got
• 24:31
  a
• 24:32
  huge
• 24:32
  stock
• 24:32
  of
• 24:32
  that.
• 24:33
  So
• 24:34
  hopefully
• 24:34
  all
• 24:34
  those
• 24:34
  little
• 24:35
  odds
• 24:35
  and
• 24:35
  ends.
• 24:36
  Yeah.
• 24:36
  And
• 24:36
  also
• 24:37
  too,
• 24:37
  because
• 24:37
  I've
• 24:37
  seen
• 24:37
  the
• 24:38
  wall
• 24:38
  in
• 24:38
  your
• 24:38
  shop,
• 24:38
  you've
• 24:39
  got
• 24:39
  a
• 24:39
  nice
• 24:39
  variety
• 24:40
  of
• 24:40
  lines,
• 24:41
  Right.
• 24:41
  Which
• 24:41
  you
• 24:42
  know,
• 24:42
  when
• 24:42
  you're
• 24:42
  doing
• 24:42
  multispecies
• 24:44
  and
• 24:44
  fishing
• 24:44
  lakes
• 24:45
  as
• 24:45
  well,
• 24:45
  you
• 24:46
  really
• 24:46
  need
• 24:46
  to
• 24:46
  be
• 24:46
  able
• 24:46
  to
• 24:47
  find
• 24:47
  that
• 24:47
  fly
• 24:48
  line
• 24:48
  for
• 24:49
  the
• 24:49
  job,
• 24:49
  Right?
• 24:51
  Absolutely,
• 24:52
  absolutely.
• 24:53
  And
• 24:53
  you
• 24:54
  know,
• 24:54
  the
• 24:54
  other
• 24:54
  thing
• 24:54
  I'd
• 24:55
  say
• 24:55
  is
• 24:55
  we've
• 24:56
  only
• 24:56
  got
• 24:56
  so
• 24:56
  much
• 24:56
  space.
• 24:57
  We're
• 24:58
  a
• 24:58
  retail
• 24:58
  shop,
• 24:58
  not
• 24:59
  a
• 24:59
  distribution
• 24:59
  warehouse.
• 25:00
  So
• 25:01
  everything
• 25:01
  in
• 25:01
  here
• 25:01
  is
• 25:02
  pretty
• 25:02
  curated
• 25:03
  and
• 25:03
  it's
• 25:03
  stuff
• 25:04
  that
• 25:04
  I.
• 25:05
  Almost
• 25:06
  everything
• 25:06
  in
• 25:06
  here
• 25:06
  is
• 25:07
  something
• 25:07
  I've
• 25:07
  used
• 25:07
  personally.
• 25:08
  Yeah.
• 25:09
  And
• 25:09
  I
• 25:10
  know
• 25:10
  Ellis
• 25:10
  wants
• 25:11
  to
• 25:11
  put
• 25:11
  you
• 25:11
  on
• 25:11
  the
• 25:11
  clock
• 25:11
  for
• 25:12
  your
• 25:12
  online
• 25:12
  store.
• 25:15
  Yes,
• 25:15
  he
• 25:15
  does.
• 25:18
  And
• 25:18
  I
• 25:19
  can't
• 25:19
  remember
• 25:19
  what
• 25:19
  he
• 25:19
  told
• 25:20
  me
• 25:20
  last
• 25:20
  night
• 25:20
  when
• 25:20
  I
• 25:20
  talked
• 25:21
  to
• 25:21
  him
• 25:21
  that
• 25:21
  he
• 25:21
  was
• 25:21
  committing
• 25:22
  you
• 25:22
  to,
• 25:22
  but
• 25:23
  so
• 25:23
  folks,
• 25:23
  just
• 25:24
  so
• 25:24
  you
• 25:24
  know,
• 25:24
  and
• 25:25
  you
• 25:25
  can
• 25:25
  see
• 25:25
  it
• 25:25
  too,
• 25:25
  in
• 25:25
  the
• 25:26
  Instagram
• 25:26
  feed,
• 25:26
  I
• 25:26
  can
• 25:26
  see
• 25:27
  a
• 25:27
  lot
• 25:27
  of
• 25:27
  product
• 25:27
  shots.
• 25:28
  Like,
• 25:28
  I
• 25:28
  know
• 25:28
  you're
• 25:28
  taking
• 25:28
  product
• 25:29
  shots
• 25:29
  for
• 25:29
  your
• 25:29
  probably
• 25:30
  your
• 25:30
  Shopify
• 25:30
  page
• 25:31
  and
• 25:32
  putting
• 25:32
  them
• 25:32
  out
• 25:32
  on
• 25:32
  Instagram,
• 25:33
  but
• 25:34
  between
• 25:34
  now
• 25:34
  and
• 25:34
  the
• 25:35
  time
• 25:35
  everything
• 25:35
  gets
• 25:36
  online,
• 25:37
  I
• 25:37
  assume
• 25:38
  folks
• 25:38
  can
• 25:38
  call
• 25:38
  the
• 25:38
  shop
• 25:39
  and
• 25:39
  say,
• 25:39
  hey,
• 25:39
  do
• 25:39
  you
• 25:39
  carry
• 25:40
  this?
• 25:40
  What
• 25:40
  have
• 25:40
  you
• 25:40
  got?
• 25:41
  Here's
• 25:41
  my
• 25:41
  problem.
• 25:41
  And
• 25:42
  you
• 25:42
  can
• 25:42
  ship
• 25:42
  them
• 25:42
  stuff.
• 25:44
  Absolutely,
• 25:45
  absolutely.
• 25:45
  So
• 25:46
  that,
• 25:46
  that's
• 25:46
  part
• 25:46
  of
• 25:46
  the
• 25:47
  running
• 25:47
  downhill
• 25:48
  at
• 25:48
  full
• 25:48
  speed.
• 25:49
  You
• 25:49
  know,
• 25:49
  a
• 25:49
  couple
• 25:49
  times
• 25:50
  I
• 25:50
  posted
• 25:51
  something
• 25:51
  on
• 25:51
  Instagram
• 25:52
  and
• 25:52
  someone's
• 25:52
  messaged
• 25:53
  me
• 25:53
  and
• 25:54
  been
• 25:54
  like,
• 25:54
  hey,
• 25:55
  in
• 25:55
  the
• 25:55
  lower
• 25:55
  left
• 25:56
  corner
• 25:56
  at
• 25:56
  the
• 25:57
  second
• 25:57
  three,
• 25:58
  I
• 25:58
  saw
• 25:58
  this.
• 25:59
  Can
• 26:00
  you
• 26:00
  send
• 26:00
  me
• 26:00
  a
• 26:00
  picture
• 26:01
  and
• 26:02
  possibly
• 26:02
  mail
• 26:02
  it
• 26:03
  to
• 26:03
  me?
• 26:03
  So
• 26:04
  I've
• 26:05
  definitely
• 26:05
  done
• 26:05
  that
• 26:06
  and
• 26:06
  we'll
• 26:06
  do
• 26:06
  that
• 26:06
  for
• 26:07
  folks.
• 26:07
  And
• 26:08
  honestly,
• 26:08
  it's
• 26:08
  good
• 26:08
  practice
• 26:09
  for
• 26:09
  me
• 26:09
  just
• 26:09
  in
• 26:10
  the
• 26:10
  whole
• 26:10
  mailing
• 26:11
  process.
• 26:11
  But
• 26:12
  I
• 26:12
  think
• 26:12
  those
• 26:12
  people
• 26:13
  have
• 26:13
  been.
• 26:13
  Really
• 26:13
  happy
• 26:13
  with
• 26:14
  what
• 26:14
  they'
• 26:15
  Very
• 26:15
  cool.
• 26:16
  And
• 26:16
  so,
• 26:16
  you
• 26:16
  know,
• 26:16
  obviously
• 26:17
  it's
• 26:17
  cooling
• 26:17
  off
• 26:18
  and
• 26:18
  that
• 26:18
  generally
• 26:18
  means
• 26:19
  classes
• 26:19
  and
• 26:20
  tying
• 26:20
  stuff.
• 26:21
  And
• 26:21
  I
• 26:21
  know
• 26:21
  you've
• 26:21
  got
• 26:22
  a
• 26:22
  million
• 26:22
  things
• 26:23
  going
• 26:23
  on
• 26:23
  and,
• 26:23
  you
• 26:24
  know,
• 26:24
  you
• 26:24
  only
• 26:24
  opened
• 26:24
  a
• 26:24
  fly
• 26:25
  shop,
• 26:25
  you
• 26:25
  know,
• 26:25
  within
• 26:26
  a
• 26:26
  week
• 26:26
  of
• 26:26
  a
• 26:26
  hurricane
• 26:27
  hitting
• 26:27
  your
• 26:27
  area.
• 26:29
  You
• 26:30
  know,
• 26:30
  literally
• 26:30
  a,
• 26:31
  you
• 26:31
  know,
• 26:32
  a
• 26:32
  once
• 26:32
  in
• 26:33
  a
• 26:33
  multiple
• 26:33
  lifetime
• 26:34
  event.
• 26:35
  You
• 26:35
  know,
• 26:35
  you
• 26:35
  have
• 26:35
  anything
• 26:36
  kind
• 26:36
  of
• 26:36
  on
• 26:36
  the
• 26:36
  calendar
• 26:36
  you
• 26:37
  want
• 26:37
  to
• 26:37
  tease.
• 26:37
  For
• 26:37
  folks,
• 26:39
  you
• 26:39
  know,
• 26:40
  nothing
• 26:40
  specific.
• 26:41
  We
• 26:42
  will
• 26:42
  do
• 26:43
  some
• 26:43
  sort
• 26:43
  of
• 26:43
  events.
• 26:44
  I
• 26:44
  don't
• 26:44
  Know
• 26:44
  if
• 26:45
  those
• 26:45
  will
• 26:45
  be
• 26:45
  over
• 26:45
  the
• 26:46
  next
• 26:46
  three
• 26:46
  months
• 26:46
  or
• 26:47
  the
• 26:47
  next
• 26:47
  15
• 26:47
  months,
• 26:49
  we
• 26:49
  will
• 26:50
  probably
• 26:50
  start
• 26:50
  small
• 26:50
  and
• 26:51
  build
• 26:51
  intentionally,
• 26:52
  but
• 26:53
  we
• 26:54
  will
• 26:54
  have
• 26:54
  some
• 26:54
  events.
• 26:55
  And
• 26:55
  then
• 26:56
  honestly,
• 26:57
  too,
• 26:57
  in
• 26:57
  terms
• 26:58
  of
• 26:58
  kind
• 26:58
  of
• 26:59
  helping
• 27:00
  people
• 27:00
  out
• 27:01
  and
• 27:02
  that
• 27:02
  kind
• 27:02
  of
• 27:02
  thing,
• 27:02
  you
• 27:03
  know,
• 27:03
  I'm
• 27:04
  certain
• 27:04
  that
• 27:04
  we
• 27:04
  will
• 27:05
  start
• 27:05
  doing
• 27:05
  more
• 27:06
  kind
• 27:06
  of
• 27:06
  instructional
• 27:07
  YouTube
• 27:07
  videos
• 27:08
  and
• 27:08
  that
• 27:08
  kind
• 27:08
  of
• 27:09
  thing
• 27:09
  over
• 27:09
  the
• 27:10
  medium
• 27:11
  term.
• 27:12
  Yeah.
• 27:12
  And
• 27:13
  very
• 27:13
  neat.
• 27:13
  And
• 27:13
  we.
• 27:14
  We
• 27:14
  should
• 27:14
  talk
• 27:14
  to.
• 27:14
  Because
• 27:15
  I
• 27:15
  have
• 27:15
  all
• 27:15
  kinds
• 27:15
  of
• 27:15
  ideas.
• 27:16
  I
• 27:16
  spent
• 27:16
  a
• 27:17
  fair
• 27:17
  amount
• 27:17
  of
• 27:17
  time
• 27:17
  over
• 27:17
  there
• 27:18
  and
• 27:18
  got
• 27:19
  to
• 27:19
  spend
• 27:19
  some
• 27:19
  time
• 27:19
  with
• 27:19
  the
• 27:20
  tourism
• 27:20
  folks
• 27:20
  and
• 27:21
  kind
• 27:21
  of
• 27:21
  that
• 27:21
  entire
• 27:21
  region.
• 27:22
  So
• 27:23
  we'll
• 27:23
  have
• 27:23
  to.
• 27:23
  Maybe
• 27:24
  we'll.
• 27:24
  Maybe
• 27:24
  we
• 27:24
  can
• 27:24
  part
• 27:25
  together
• 27:25
  and
• 27:25
  do
• 27:25
  something.
• 27:26
  But,
• 27:26
  you
• 27:26
  know,
• 27:27
  for
• 27:27
  folks
• 27:27
  that
• 27:28
  don't
• 27:28
  listen
• 27:28
  to
• 27:28
  everything
• 27:29
  that
• 27:29
  we
• 27:29
  do,
• 27:29
  you
• 27:29
  know,
• 27:30
  kind
• 27:31
  of
• 27:31
  this
• 27:31
  part
• 27:31
  of
• 27:31
  the
• 27:32
  world
• 27:32
  is
• 27:33
  kind
• 27:33
  of
• 27:33
  in
• 27:33
  the
• 27:33
  wheelhouse
• 27:33
  for
• 27:34
  the
• 27:34
  articulate
• 27:34
  fly.
• 27:34
  But
• 27:35
  why
• 27:35
  don't
• 27:35
  we,
• 27:35
  like,
• 27:35
  walk
• 27:35
  folks
• 27:36
  through,
• 27:36
  you
• 27:37
  know,
• 27:37
  we
• 27:37
  can
• 27:37
  start
• 27:37
  with
• 27:37
  the
• 27:38
  South
• 27:38
  Holston
• 27:38
  and
• 27:38
  talk
• 27:39
  about
• 27:39
  the
• 27:39
  Watauga
• 27:39
  and
• 27:39
  kind
• 27:40
  of
• 27:40
  touch
• 27:40
  on
• 27:40
  some
• 27:40
  other
• 27:40
  things,
• 27:40
  but
• 27:41
  kind
• 27:41
  of
• 27:41
  let
• 27:41
  folks
• 27:41
  know
• 27:42
  kind
• 27:43
  of
• 27:43
  what's
• 27:43
  available,
• 27:44
  you
• 27:44
  know,
• 27:44
  roughly
• 27:44
  how
• 27:44
  to
• 27:45
  fish
• 27:45
  it,
• 27:45
  maybe
• 27:46
  kind
• 27:46
  of
• 27:46
  the
• 27:46
  season,
• 27:47
  you
• 27:47
  know,
• 27:47
  so
• 27:47
  we
• 27:47
  can
• 27:47
  talk
• 27:47
  about
• 27:48
  sulfurs
• 27:48
  on
• 27:48
  the
• 27:48
  South
• 27:48
  Holster
• 27:49
  and
• 27:49
  all
• 27:49
  that
• 27:49
  kind
• 27:49
  of
• 27:49
  good
• 27:49
  stuff.
• 27:49
  But
• 27:50
  why
• 27:50
  don't
• 27:50
  we
• 27:50
  start
• 27:50
  there
• 27:50
  and
• 27:51
  kind
• 27:51
  of
• 27:51
  walk
• 27:51
  through
• 27:51
  some
• 27:51
  of
• 27:51
  the
• 27:52
  fisheries?
• 27:54
  Yeah,
• 27:55
  yeah.
• 27:55
  And
• 27:56
  let
• 27:56
  me
• 27:56
  start
• 27:56
  with
• 27:56
  the
• 27:57
  South
• 27:57
  Holston
• 27:57
  Watauga,
• 27:58
  because
• 27:58
  those
• 27:59
  are
• 27:59
  the
• 27:59
  two
• 27:59
  preeminent.
• 28:00
  You
• 28:00
  know,
• 28:00
  I
• 28:00
  think
• 28:01
  most
• 28:01
  people
• 28:01
  here,
• 28:01
  South
• 28:02
  Holston.
• 28:03
  What
• 28:04
  I
• 28:04
  will
• 28:04
  say
• 28:04
  is
• 28:04
  Watauga
• 28:05
  has
• 28:05
  been
• 28:05
  a
• 28:05
  really
• 28:06
  amazing
• 28:06
  river
• 28:06
  as
• 28:07
  well.
• 28:07
  So
• 28:08
  if
• 28:08
  you're
• 28:08
  ever
• 28:09
  coming
• 28:09
  out
• 28:09
  here,
• 28:09
  don't
• 28:10
  poo,
• 28:10
  poo,
• 28:10
  poo.
• 28:11
  The
• 28:11
  Watauga.
• 28:11
  If
• 28:11
  you
• 28:12
  have
• 28:12
  a
• 28:12
  guide
• 28:12
  who's
• 28:12
  trying
• 28:12
  to
• 28:12
  take
• 28:13
  you
• 28:13
  out
• 28:13
  there,
• 28:13
  just
• 28:14
  listen
• 28:14
  to
• 28:14
  them.
• 28:16
  If
• 28:16
  they're
• 28:16
  generating.
• 28:17
  Generating
• 28:17
  on
• 28:18
  the
• 28:18
  Holston,
• 28:19
  wading
• 28:19
  the
• 28:19
  Watauga
• 28:20
  is
• 28:20
  not
• 28:20
  a
• 28:20
  bad
• 28:21
  option.
• 28:21
  So
• 28:22
  both
• 28:22
  of
• 28:22
  those
• 28:22
  rivers
• 28:23
  are
• 28:23
  tailwaters,
• 28:24
  you
• 28:24
  know,
• 28:24
  kind
• 28:25
  of
• 28:25
  run
• 28:25
  and
• 28:25
  operated
• 28:26
  by
• 28:26
  the
• 28:26
  tva.
• 28:28
  And
• 28:28
  it
• 28:28
  just
• 28:28
  creates
• 28:29
  a
• 28:29
  really
• 28:29
  amazing
• 28:30
  environment
• 28:30
  for
• 28:30
  trout.
• 28:31
  Both
• 28:32
  of
• 28:32
  those
• 28:32
  rivers
• 28:33
  eventually
• 28:34
  run
• 28:34
  into
• 28:34
  Boone
• 28:35
  Lake.
• 28:35
  And
• 28:36
  so
• 28:36
  you
• 28:36
  have
• 28:36
  a
• 28:36
  combination
• 28:37
  of
• 28:37
  resident
• 28:38
  fish
• 28:39
  that
• 28:40
  will
• 28:40
  grow
• 28:40
  extremely
• 28:41
  large.
• 28:41
  And
• 28:42
  then
• 28:42
  you
• 28:42
  also
• 28:42
  have
• 28:43
  fish
• 28:43
  that
• 28:43
  will
• 28:43
  migrate
• 28:44
  down
• 28:44
  to
• 28:44
  the
• 28:44
  lake,
• 28:45
  feed
• 28:46
  on
• 28:46
  shad
• 28:46
  in
• 28:46
  the
• 28:46
  winter,
• 28:47
  and
• 28:47
  then
• 28:47
  as
• 28:48
  the
• 28:48
  lake
• 28:48
  temperature
• 28:49
  rises,
• 28:49
  they'll
• 28:49
  move
• 28:50
  back
• 28:50
  up
• 28:50
  the
• 28:51
  rivers
• 28:51
  in
• 28:51
  search
• 28:52
  of
• 28:52
  cooler
• 28:52
  water.
• 28:53
  So
• 28:54
  there
• 28:54
  are
• 28:55
  some
• 28:55
  true
• 28:56
  fish
• 28:56
  of
• 28:56
  a
• 28:57
  lifetime
• 28:57
  in
• 28:58
  both
• 28:58
  of
• 28:59
  these
• 28:59
  rivers
• 29:01
  in
• 29:01
  terms
• 29:02
  of
• 29:02
  season.
• 29:03
  You
• 29:03
  know,
• 29:04
  I'll
• 29:04
  just
• 29:04
  kind
• 29:04
  of
• 29:04
  start
• 29:05
  in
• 29:05
  the
• 29:05
  spring
• 29:06
  with.
• 29:06
  With
• 29:06
  a
• 29:06
  few
• 29:07
  things
• 29:07
  to
• 29:07
  be
• 29:07
  on
• 29:07
  the
• 29:07
  lookout
• 29:07
  for.
• 29:08
  And
• 29:09
  typically,
• 29:10
  these
• 29:10
  Things
• 29:10
  happen
• 29:11
  on
• 29:11
  both
• 29:11
  rivers.
• 29:12
  One
• 29:13
  may
• 29:13
  happen
• 29:13
  more
• 29:14
  on
• 29:14
  one
• 29:14
  river
• 29:14
  than
• 29:15
  another.
• 29:15
  And
• 29:16
  usually
• 29:16
  on
• 29:16
  the
• 29:16
  Watauga,
• 29:17
  it's
• 29:17
  a
• 29:18
  month
• 29:18
  or
• 29:18
  a
• 29:18
  couple
• 29:19
  weeks
• 29:19
  earlier
• 29:19
  than
• 29:19
  the
• 29:19
  Holston.
• 29:20
  So
• 29:21
  spring
• 29:22
  we
• 29:22
  basically
• 29:23
  have
• 29:24
  sulfur
• 29:25
  start
• 29:25
  hatching.
• 29:26
  And
• 29:26
  they
• 29:26
  start
• 29:27
  hatching
• 29:27
  on
• 29:27
  the
• 29:27
  lower
• 29:27
  parts
• 29:28
  of
• 29:28
  the
• 29:28
  river
• 29:29
  and
• 29:29
  move
• 29:29
  up.
• 29:31
  Caddis
• 29:31
  start
• 29:32
  hatching.
• 29:32
  There's
• 29:32
  a
• 29:33
  really
• 29:33
  great
• 29:33
  Mother's
• 29:33
  day
• 29:33
  caddis
• 29:34
  hatch
• 29:34
  on
• 29:34
  the
• 29:34
  Watauga.
• 29:35
  The
• 29:36
  suckers
• 29:36
  run
• 29:37
  up
• 29:37
  both
• 29:37
  rivers
• 29:38
  and
• 29:38
  spawn.
• 29:39
  And
• 29:39
  if
• 29:39
  you
• 29:39
  hit
• 29:39
  that
• 29:40
  right,
• 29:40
  the
• 29:40
  fishing
• 29:41
  can
• 29:41
  be
• 29:41
  just
• 29:42
  absolutely
• 29:42
  amazing.
• 29:44
  And
• 29:45
  there's
• 29:45
  also
• 29:45
  shad
• 29:46
  runs.
• 29:46
  And
• 29:47
  so
• 29:48
  brown
• 29:48
  trout,
• 29:49
  hybrid
• 29:50
  striper
• 29:51
  will
• 29:52
  follow
• 29:52
  these
• 29:52
  shad
• 29:53
  runs
• 29:53
  and
• 29:53
  feed
• 29:54
  on
• 29:54
  shad.
• 29:54
  And
• 29:55
  that's
• 29:55
  another
• 29:55
  really
• 29:56
  cool
• 29:56
  fishing
• 29:56
  opportunity.
• 29:57
  If
• 29:57
  you
• 29:57
  hit
• 29:57
  things
• 29:58
  right
• 29:59
  during
• 30:00
  the
• 30:00
  summer
• 30:00
  on
• 30:01
  both
• 30:01
  rivers,
• 30:02
  you
• 30:02
  have,
• 30:02
  you
• 30:02
  know,
• 30:03
  continual
• 30:03
  bug
• 30:03
  hatches,
• 30:04
  A
• 30:04
  lot
• 30:04
  of
• 30:04
  sulfurs,
• 30:05
  a
• 30:05
  lot
• 30:05
  of
• 30:05
  caddis
• 30:06
  potential,
• 30:06
  particularly
• 30:06
  on
• 30:06
  the
• 30:06
  Watauga.
• 30:09
  And
• 30:09
  then
• 30:09
  during
• 30:09
  the
• 30:10
  fall,
• 30:10
  you
• 30:10
  get
• 30:10
  some
• 30:11
  kind
• 30:11
  of
• 30:11
  pre
• 30:12
  spawn
• 30:12
  movement,
• 30:13
  pre
• 30:13
  spawn
• 30:13
  activity.
• 30:15
  And,
• 30:15
  you
• 30:16
  know,
• 30:16
  big
• 30:16
  fish
• 30:17
  that
• 30:17
  have
• 30:17
  been
• 30:17
  holding
• 30:17
  in
• 30:18
  very
• 30:18
  specific
• 30:18
  lives
• 30:19
  for
• 30:19
  three
• 30:20
  or
• 30:20
  four
• 30:20
  months
• 30:21
  are
• 30:21
  moving
• 30:22
  somewhere
• 30:22
  new.
• 30:23
  They
• 30:24
  don't
• 30:24
  quite
• 30:24
  have
• 30:25
  the
• 30:25
  scenery
• 30:25
  as
• 30:25
  dialed
• 30:26
  in.
• 30:26
  They
• 30:26
  may
• 30:26
  be
• 30:27
  a
• 30:27
  little
• 30:27
  bit
• 30:27
  more
• 30:27
  aggressive.
• 30:28
  And
• 30:29
  you
• 30:29
  see
• 30:29
  a
• 30:29
  lot
• 30:29
  of
• 30:29
  fish
• 30:30
  get
• 30:30
  caught
• 30:30
  pre
• 30:31
  spawn
• 30:31
  that
• 30:31
  are
• 30:32
  really
• 30:32
  big.
• 30:34
  You
• 30:35
  know,
• 30:35
  winter
• 30:36
  fish
• 30:37
  will
• 30:37
  spawn
• 30:37
  and
• 30:37
  then
• 30:38
  go
• 30:38
  back
• 30:38
  on
• 30:38
  the
• 30:39
  feed.
• 30:39
  There's
• 30:40
  some
• 30:40
  really
• 30:40
  amazing
• 30:41
  streamer
• 30:41
  fishing
• 30:42
  that
• 30:42
  takes
• 30:43
  place
• 30:43
  out
• 30:43
  here
• 30:43
  on
• 30:43
  both
• 30:44
  rivers.
• 30:45
  And
• 30:46
  so,
• 30:46
  you
• 30:47
  know,
• 30:47
  when
• 30:47
  people
• 30:48
  say,
• 30:48
  when
• 30:48
  should
• 30:48
  I
• 30:49
  come?
• 30:50
  You
• 30:50
  know,
• 30:51
  there's
• 30:51
  a
• 30:51
  couple
• 30:52
  weeks,
• 30:52
  you
• 30:52
  know,
• 30:52
  maybe
• 30:53
  a
• 30:53
  couple
• 30:53
  days,
• 30:53
  week
• 30:54
  or
• 30:54
  two
• 30:54
  in
• 30:55
  late
• 30:55
  August
• 30:55
  that
• 30:56
  are
• 30:56
  tough.
• 30:57
  And
• 30:57
  maybe
• 30:58
  there's
• 30:58
  a
• 30:58
  period
• 30:58
  between
• 31:00
  post
• 31:01
  spawn
• 31:01
  and
• 31:02
  when
• 31:02
  the
• 31:02
  sucker
• 31:03
  spawn
• 31:04
  thing
• 31:04
  starts
• 31:04
  happening.
• 31:05
  That
• 31:05
  can
• 31:05
  be
• 31:05
  a
• 31:05
  little
• 31:06
  tough,
• 31:06
  but
• 31:07
  it's
• 31:07
  pretty
• 31:07
  much
• 31:07
  good
• 31:08
  all
• 31:08
  year
• 31:08
  round.
• 31:10
  And
• 31:10
  then
• 31:10
  in
• 31:11
  terms
• 31:11
  of
• 31:11
  tactics,
• 31:13
  I
• 31:13
  always
• 31:13
  ask
• 31:14
  people
• 31:14
  what
• 31:14
  they
• 31:14
  like
• 31:14
  to
• 31:15
  do.
• 31:15
  I
• 31:16
  do
• 31:16
  a
• 31:16
  couple
• 31:17
  companion.
• 31:18
  I
• 31:18
  don't
• 31:18
  do
• 31:18
  any
• 31:19
  guiding.
• 31:19
  I
• 31:19
  do
• 31:19
  some
• 31:20
  companion
• 31:20
  trips
• 31:21
  that
• 31:21
  I've
• 31:21
  donated
• 31:21
  to
• 31:22
  the
• 31:22
  triangle
• 31:22
  fly
• 31:23
  fishers
• 31:23
  over
• 31:23
  the
• 31:23
  years.
• 31:24
  And
• 31:24
  I
• 31:24
  always
• 31:25
  ask
• 31:25
  people
• 31:25
  what
• 31:25
  they
• 31:25
  want
• 31:26
  to
• 31:26
  do.
• 31:26
  Because
• 31:26
  you
• 31:26
  can
• 31:27
  come
• 31:27
  out
• 31:27
  here
• 31:28
  and
• 31:28
  you
• 31:28
  can
• 31:28
  focus
• 31:29
  on
• 31:29
  dry
• 31:29
  fly
• 31:29
  fishing.
• 31:30
  You
• 31:30
  can
• 31:30
  come
• 31:31
  out
• 31:31
  here
• 31:31
  and
• 31:31
  you
• 31:31
  can
• 31:32
  European
• 31:32
  nymph
• 31:33
  and
• 31:33
  come
• 31:34
  out
• 31:34
  here
• 31:34
  and
• 31:34
  streamer
• 31:34
  fish,
• 31:35
  night
• 31:35
  fish.
• 31:36
  You
• 31:36
  can
• 31:36
  do
• 31:37
  pretty
• 31:37
  much
• 31:37
  anything
• 31:38
  that
• 31:38
  you
• 31:38
  want.
• 31:40
  And
• 31:40
  there's
• 31:40
  a
• 31:40
  few
• 31:41
  adjustments.
• 31:41
  And
• 31:41
  maybe
• 31:42
  certain
• 31:42
  times
• 31:42
  a
• 31:42
  year
• 31:43
  are
• 31:43
  better
• 31:43
  for
• 31:44
  one
• 31:44
  tactic
• 31:44
  over
• 31:44
  another.
• 31:45
  But
• 31:46
  they're
• 31:46
  both
• 31:47
  really
• 31:47
  dynamic
• 31:47
  fisheries.
• 31:48
  So
• 31:49
  that's
• 31:49
  the
• 31:49
  quick
• 31:50
  overview
• 31:50
  on
• 31:50
  the
• 31:50
  Holston
• 31:51
  and
• 31:51
  Watauga.
• 31:53
  One
• 31:53
  other
• 31:53
  thing
• 31:54
  I'll
• 31:54
  just
• 31:54
  mention
• 31:55
  because
• 31:55
  it's
• 31:55
  kind
• 31:55
  of
• 31:56
  weird
• 31:56
  and
• 31:57
  it
• 31:57
  tells
• 31:57
  people
• 31:57
  what
• 31:58
  a
• 31:58
  Geek
• 31:58
  I
• 31:58
  am
• 31:58
  when
• 31:58
  it
• 31:59
  comes
• 31:59
  to
• 31:59
  this
• 31:59
  stuff,
• 32:00
  But
• 32:01
  I.
• 32:02
  I
• 32:02
  have
• 32:02
  a
• 32:02
  drone,
• 32:03
  and
• 32:03
  I've
• 32:03
  been
• 32:04
  flying
• 32:05
  it
• 32:05
  over
• 32:06
  different
• 32:06
  sections
• 32:06
  of
• 32:07
  the
• 32:07
  south
• 32:07
  holston.
• 32:08
  More
• 32:08
  south
• 32:09
  holston,
• 32:09
  but
• 32:09
  Watauga
• 32:10
  as
• 32:10
  well,
• 32:11
  for
• 32:12
  a
• 32:12
  couple
• 32:12
  years
• 32:12
  now.
• 32:13
  And
• 32:13
  I've
• 32:14
  actually
• 32:14
  kind
• 32:14
  of
• 32:15
  charted
• 32:15
  out
• 32:16
  some
• 32:16
  of
• 32:16
  the
• 32:17
  migratory
• 32:17
  patterns
• 32:18
  that
• 32:18
  the
• 32:18
  brown
• 32:19
  trout
• 32:19
  take
• 32:20
  as
• 32:20
  they're
• 32:20
  moving
• 32:21
  up
• 32:21
  out
• 32:21
  of
• 32:21
  the
• 32:21
  lake.
• 32:22
  And
• 32:23
  again,
• 32:23
  kind
• 32:23
  of
• 32:24
  looking
• 32:24
  for
• 32:24
  that
• 32:24
  colder
• 32:25
  water
• 32:25
  throughout
• 32:25
  the
• 32:26
  season.
• 32:26
  So
• 32:26
  I
• 32:27
  can
• 32:27
  say
• 32:27
  pretty
• 32:28
  definitively
• 32:28
  that,
• 32:29
  you
• 32:29
  know,
• 32:30
  by,
• 32:30
  let's
• 32:31
  just
• 32:31
  say,
• 32:32
  the
• 32:32
  end
• 32:32
  of
• 32:32
  July,
• 32:33
  the
• 32:33
  most
• 32:34
  of
• 32:34
  the
• 32:34
  big
• 32:34
  browns
• 32:35
  have
• 32:35
  moved
• 32:35
  out
• 32:35
  at
• 32:35
  one
• 32:36
  section
• 32:36
  and
• 32:37
  up
• 32:37
  into
• 32:37
  another.
• 32:38
  So
• 32:38
  that's
• 32:39
  kind
• 32:39
  of
• 32:39
  the
• 32:39
  overview
• 32:40
  on
• 32:40
  both
• 32:40
  of
• 32:40
  those
• 32:40
  tailwaters.
• 32:41
  Yeah.
• 32:42
  And
• 32:42
  so,
• 32:42
  you
• 32:42
  know,
• 32:43
  also,
• 32:43
  too,
• 32:43
  you
• 32:43
  got
• 32:44
  the
• 32:44
  lake
• 32:44
  you
• 32:45
  want
• 32:45
  to
• 32:45
  touch
• 32:45
  a
• 32:45
  little
• 32:45
  bit
• 32:45
  on
• 32:46
  the
• 32:46
  striper
• 32:46
  action.
• 32:48
  Yeah,
• 32:48
  yeah.
• 32:49
  So
• 32:49
  we
• 32:50
  have
• 32:50
  a
• 32:50
  number
• 32:50
  of
• 32:51
  other
• 32:51
  really
• 32:51
  great
• 32:52
  fisheries
• 32:52
  locally.
• 32:54
  The
• 32:54
  striper
• 32:55
  in
• 32:55
  Boone
• 32:55
  lake
• 32:56
  is
• 32:56
  definitely
• 32:57
  one
• 32:57
  of
• 32:57
  them.
• 32:59
  During
• 32:59
  the
• 32:59
  winter,
• 33:01
  we'll
• 33:01
  have
• 33:01
  the
• 33:01
  lakes
• 33:02
  cooling
• 33:02
  down.
• 33:04
  Shad
• 33:05
  gets
• 33:05
  stressed.
• 33:06
  They
• 33:06
  kind
• 33:06
  of
• 33:06
  seek
• 33:07
  a
• 33:07
  little
• 33:07
  bit
• 33:07
  warmer
• 33:08
  water.
• 33:08
  And
• 33:09
  it's
• 33:09
  really
• 33:10
  wild.
• 33:10
  Striper,
• 33:12
  hybrid,
• 33:13
  and
• 33:14
  striper.
• 33:15
  I
• 33:15
  mean,
• 33:15
  like,
• 33:16
  you
• 33:16
  know,
• 33:17
  20
• 33:17
  pounds
• 33:18
  is
• 33:18
  not
• 33:18
  a
• 33:19
  big
• 33:19
  striper
• 33:20
  here.
• 33:21
  There
• 33:22
  are
• 33:22
  very
• 33:22
  large
• 33:22
  striper
• 33:23
  in
• 33:23
  some
• 33:23
  in
• 33:23
  boone
• 33:24
  lake,
• 33:25
  hybrid,
• 33:26
  over
• 33:26
  ten
• 33:26
  pounds.
• 33:27
  And
• 33:27
  then
• 33:27
  the
• 33:28
  brown
• 33:28
  was
• 33:28
  wild
• 33:28
  as
• 33:29
  the
• 33:29
  brown
• 33:29
  trout
• 33:29
  get
• 33:29
  in
• 33:30
  there
• 33:30
  with
• 33:30
  them.
• 33:30
  And
• 33:30
  the
• 33:30
  brown
• 33:31
  trout
• 33:31
  will
• 33:31
  be
• 33:31
  in
• 33:32
  there
• 33:32
  eating
• 33:32
  shad
• 33:33
  right
• 33:33
  alongside
• 33:34
  the
• 33:34
  stripers.
• 33:35
  And
• 33:35
  we're
• 33:35
  talking
• 33:35
  browns,
• 33:36
  you
• 33:37
  know,
• 33:37
  over
• 33:38
  easily
• 33:38
  over
• 33:39
  five
• 33:39
  pounds
• 33:39
  and
• 33:40
  over
• 33:40
  eight
• 33:40
  and
• 33:40
  sometimes
• 33:41
  over
• 33:41
  ten.
• 33:41
  So
• 33:42
  the
• 33:42
  striper,
• 33:43
  hybrid,
• 33:43
  and
• 33:43
  brown
• 33:44
  trout
• 33:44
  get
• 33:44
  together
• 33:45
  and
• 33:45
  feed
• 33:46
  on
• 33:46
  shad
• 33:46
  kind
• 33:46
  of
• 33:47
  the
• 33:47
  fall
• 33:47
  and
• 33:47
  winter.
• 33:49
  That's
• 33:49
  a
• 33:49
  really
• 33:49
  amazing
• 33:50
  fishery.
• 33:51
  And
• 33:51
  then
• 33:52
  other
• 33:52
  ones
• 33:52
  that
• 33:52
  we
• 33:52
  have,
• 33:53
  you
• 33:53
  know,
• 33:53
  within
• 33:54
  a
• 33:54
  reasonable
• 33:55
  distance
• 33:55
  up
• 33:55
  here
• 33:56
  are
• 33:56
  smallmouth,
• 33:58
  both
• 33:59
  kind
• 33:59
  of
• 34:00
  during
• 34:00
  the
• 34:01
  summer.
• 34:01
  And
• 34:01
  there's
• 34:01
  also
• 34:02
  some
• 34:03
  tailwater
• 34:05
  opportunities
• 34:06
  for
• 34:06
  them.
• 34:06
  Locally,
• 34:08
  we've
• 34:08
  got
• 34:08
  muskie
• 34:09
  within
• 34:09
  a
• 34:09
  reasonable
• 34:10
  distance,
• 34:10
  Some
• 34:11
  of
• 34:11
  them,
• 34:11
  again,
• 34:12
  fisheries
• 34:13
  affected
• 34:13
  by
• 34:14
  tva.
• 34:15
  And
• 34:15
  then
• 34:15
  there's
• 34:15
  other
• 34:15
  weird
• 34:16
  things
• 34:16
  that
• 34:16
  people
• 34:16
  don't
• 34:17
  even
• 34:17
  do
• 34:17
  a
• 34:17
  lot
• 34:17
  of
• 34:17
  fly
• 34:18
  fishing
• 34:18
  for,
• 34:18
  like
• 34:18
  walleye.
• 34:20
  I
• 34:21
  need
• 34:21
  to
• 34:22
  get
• 34:22
  that
• 34:22
  on
• 34:22
  my
• 34:23
  bucket
• 34:23
  list,
• 34:23
  because
• 34:24
  there's
• 34:24
  really
• 34:24
  great
• 34:24
  walleye
• 34:25
  fisheries
• 34:25
  out
• 34:26
  here.
• 34:26
  So
• 34:28
  a
• 34:28
  lot
• 34:28
  of
• 34:28
  cool
• 34:28
  stuff.
• 34:29
  Even
• 34:29
  chasing
• 34:29
  carp.
• 34:30
  There's
• 34:30
  great
• 34:30
  carp
• 34:31
  fisheries
• 34:31
  out
• 34:31
  here
• 34:31
  on
• 34:31
  Boone
• 34:32
  lake.
• 34:32
  A
• 34:32
  lot
• 34:32
  of
• 34:32
  people
• 34:33
  don't
• 34:33
  travel
• 34:33
  here
• 34:33
  for
• 34:33
  carp,
• 34:34
  but
• 34:35
  if
• 34:35
  you're
• 34:35
  local,
• 34:36
  we've
• 34:36
  got
• 34:36
  a
• 34:36
  lot
• 34:36
  of
• 34:37
  really
• 34:37
  cool
• 34:37
  fisheries.
• 34:38
  Yeah.
• 34:38
  The
• 34:38
  neat
• 34:39
  thing
• 34:39
  is,
• 34:39
  really
• 34:40
  there's
• 34:40
  so
• 34:41
  much
• 34:41
  close.
• 34:41
  But
• 34:41
  even
• 34:42
  within,
• 34:42
  you
• 34:42
  know,
• 34:42
  if
• 34:42
  you
• 34:43
  make,
• 34:43
  you
• 34:43
  know,
• 34:44
  your
• 34:44
  part
• 34:44
  of
• 34:44
  the
• 34:44
  world,
• 34:45
  kind
• 34:45
  of
• 34:45
  a
• 34:45
  base
• 34:45
  of
• 34:45
  operations,
• 34:47
  you
• 34:47
  know,
• 34:48
  within
• 34:48
  A
• 34:48
  relatively
• 34:49
  reasonable
• 34:50
  drive.
• 34:51
  Right.
• 34:51
  Particularly
• 34:51
  if
• 34:52
  you're
• 34:52
  used
• 34:52
  to
• 34:52
  driving
• 34:52
  four
• 34:53
  hours
• 34:53
  from
• 34:53
  Raleigh.
• 34:55
  Yeah.
• 34:55
  You
• 34:55
  know,
• 34:56
  you
• 34:56
  can
• 34:56
  really
• 34:57
  do
• 34:57
  anything.
• 34:58
  Right.
• 34:58
  Because
• 34:58
  in,
• 34:59
  you
• 34:59
  know,
• 34:59
  you
• 35:00
  can
• 35:00
  get,
• 35:00
  you
• 35:00
  know,
• 35:01
  north.
• 35:01
  North
• 35:02
  of
• 35:02
  Bristol
• 35:02
  and
• 35:02
  you
• 35:02
  can
• 35:03
  fish
• 35:03
  little
• 35:03
  small
• 35:04
  freestones
• 35:04
  for
• 35:05
  really,
• 35:05
  you
• 35:05
  know,
• 35:05
  beautiful
• 35:06
  mountain
• 35:06
  trout.
• 35:06
  Right.
• 35:07
  Yeah.
• 35:08
  I
• 35:08
  mean,
• 35:08
  there
• 35:08
  are
• 35:08
  a
• 35:08
  lot
• 35:09
  of
• 35:09
  options.
• 35:09
  And
• 35:10
  that's
• 35:10
  kind
• 35:10
  of
• 35:10
  one
• 35:10
  of
• 35:10
  the
• 35:11
  things
• 35:11
  that
• 35:11
  kind
• 35:11
  of
• 35:11
  makes
• 35:11
  our
• 35:12
  part
• 35:12
  of
• 35:12
  the
• 35:12
  world
• 35:12
  so
• 35:12
  special,
• 35:13
  is
• 35:13
  you
• 35:13
  do
• 35:14
  have
• 35:14
  those
• 35:14
  options.
• 35:16
  Absolutely,
• 35:17
  absolutely.
• 35:18
  Yeah.
• 35:19
  And
• 35:19
  so,
• 35:19
  you
• 35:19
  know,
• 35:20
  before
• 35:20
  I
• 35:20
  let
• 35:20
  you
• 35:21
  go
• 35:21
  this
• 35:21
  evening,
• 35:21
  John,
• 35:21
  is
• 35:22
  there
• 35:22
  anything
• 35:22
  else
• 35:22
  you
• 35:22
  want
• 35:22
  to
• 35:23
  share
• 35:23
  with
• 35:23
  our
• 35:23
  listeners?
• 35:25
  Yeah,
• 35:26
  you
• 35:26
  know,
• 35:26
  one
• 35:27
  other
• 35:27
  thing
• 35:27
  that
• 35:28
  I
• 35:28
  kind
• 35:28
  of
• 35:28
  emphasize
• 35:29
  is
• 35:30
  just
• 35:30
  the
• 35:31
  quality
• 35:31
  of
• 35:32
  the
• 35:32
  ecosystem
• 35:33
  of
• 35:34
  fly
• 35:35
  fishing
• 35:37
  people
• 35:37
  in
• 35:37
  the
• 35:37
  fly
• 35:37
  fishing
• 35:38
  industry
• 35:38
  out
• 35:38
  here
• 35:39
  we
• 35:39
  have
• 35:40
  an
• 35:40
  amazing
• 35:40
  ecosystem
• 35:41
  of
• 35:41
  guides.
• 35:41
  You
• 35:41
  know,
• 35:42
  one
• 35:42
  thing
• 35:42
  is
• 35:42
  I
• 35:42
  was
• 35:44
  thinking
• 35:45
  through
• 35:45
  the
• 35:45
  fly
• 35:46
  shop
• 35:46
  and
• 35:47
  you
• 35:47
  know,
• 35:48
  people,
• 35:49
  you
• 35:49
  know,
• 35:49
  sometimes
• 35:49
  would
• 35:50
  ask,
• 35:50
  oh,
• 35:50
  why
• 35:50
  don't
• 35:50
  you
• 35:50
  think
• 35:50
  about
• 35:51
  guiding?
• 35:51
  And
• 35:51
  you
• 35:52
  know,
• 35:52
  quite
• 35:52
  candidly,
• 35:53
  we've
• 35:53
  got
• 35:53
  a
• 35:53
  ton
• 35:53
  of
• 35:54
  amazing
• 35:54
  guides
• 35:54
  here
• 35:55
  and
• 35:55
  they
• 35:55
  don't
• 35:55
  need
• 35:55
  John
• 35:56
  trying
• 35:56
  to
• 35:56
  push
• 35:57
  his
• 35:57
  boat
• 35:57
  in
• 35:57
  between
• 35:58
  them.
• 35:59
  But
• 35:59
  we've
• 35:59
  got
• 35:59
  great
• 36:00
  guides.
• 36:00
  We've
• 36:00
  got
• 36:01
  other
• 36:01
  good
• 36:01
  fly
• 36:01
  shops
• 36:02
  in
• 36:02
  the
• 36:02
  area.
• 36:03
  You
• 36:03
  know,
• 36:03
  I'm
• 36:03
  doing
• 36:03
  something
• 36:04
  different
• 36:04
  than
• 36:04
  some
• 36:05
  of
• 36:05
  the
• 36:05
  other
• 36:05
  fly
• 36:05
  shops.
• 36:06
  But
• 36:06
  if
• 36:06
  you're
• 36:06
  here
• 36:06
  for
• 36:06
  the
• 36:07
  weekend,
• 36:08
  you
• 36:08
  don't
• 36:08
  only
• 36:08
  have
• 36:08
  to
• 36:09
  come
• 36:09
  see
• 36:09
  me.
• 36:09
  You
• 36:09
  know,
• 36:10
  stop
• 36:10
  in
• 36:10
  and
• 36:11
  check
• 36:11
  out
• 36:11
  South
• 36:12
  Holston
• 36:12
  River
• 36:12
  Fly
• 36:12
  Shop,
• 36:13
  the
• 36:13
  Fly
• 36:13
  Box,
• 36:14
  Eastern
• 36:14
  Fly
• 36:14
  Outfitters,
• 36:15
  Trophy
• 36:15
  Water
• 36:16
  Guides.
• 36:17
  And
• 36:17
  then
• 36:18
  even
• 36:18
  some
• 36:18
  of
• 36:18
  that
• 36:19
  guide
• 36:19
  experience
• 36:20
  and
• 36:20
  passion
• 36:21
  has
• 36:21
  translated
• 36:21
  into
• 36:22
  things
• 36:22
  like
• 36:23
  some
• 36:24
  drift
• 36:24
  boat
• 36:24
  manufacturing.
• 36:25
  So
• 36:26
  High
• 36:26
  Country
• 36:27
  Drift
• 36:27
  Boats
• 36:27
  and
• 36:27
  Blue
• 36:28
  Ridge
• 36:28
  Boat
• 36:28
  Works,
• 36:29
  both
• 36:30
  people
• 36:30
  who
• 36:31
  guided
• 36:31
  for
• 36:32
  a
• 36:32
  long
• 36:32
  time
• 36:32
  who
• 36:33
  have
• 36:33
  put
• 36:33
  just
• 36:34
  immense
• 36:35
  hours
• 36:35
  of
• 36:36
  thought
• 36:36
  into
• 36:37
  the
• 36:37
  design
• 36:38
  of
• 36:38
  their
• 36:38
  boats.
• 36:40
  So
• 36:40
  we've
• 36:41
  just
• 36:41
  got
• 36:41
  a
• 36:41
  really
• 36:41
  amazing
• 36:42
  ecosystem
• 36:43
  of
• 36:44
  people
• 36:44
  in
• 36:44
  this
• 36:44
  area
• 36:45
  that.
• 36:45
  Fish
• 36:45
  these
• 36:45
  rivers
• 36:47
  very,
• 36:47
  very
• 36:47
  neat
• 36:48
  and,
• 36:48
  you
• 36:48
  know,
• 36:48
  get
• 36:48
  down
• 36:48
  to
• 36:48
  the
• 36:49
  practical
• 36:49
  stuff,
• 36:49
  you
• 36:49
  know,
• 36:50
  where
• 36:50
  are
• 36:50
  you
• 36:50
  located
• 36:51
  and
• 36:51
  when
• 36:51
  are
• 36:51
  you
• 36:51
  open?
• 36:54
  So
• 36:55
  I'm
• 36:55
  located
• 36:55
  in
• 36:56
  downtown
• 36:56
  Bluff
• 36:56
  City,
• 36:57
  right
• 36:57
  where
• 36:57
  the
• 36:57
  South
• 36:58
  Holston
• 36:59
  meets
• 36:59
  Boone
• 36:59
  Lake.
• 37:01
  Bluff
• 37:01
  City
• 37:01
  is
• 37:01
  a
• 37:02
  pretty
• 37:02
  small
• 37:03

• 37:03
  so
• 37:03
  if
• 37:03
  you
• 37:03
  just
• 37:04
  drive
• 37:04
  through
• 37:04
  and
• 37:04
  look
• 37:05
  for
• 37:05
  the
• 37:05
  building
• 37:05
  painted
• 37:06
  like
• 37:06
  a
• 37:06
  giant
• 37:06
  trout,
• 37:08
  that's
• 37:08
  us.
• 37:08
  We're

• 37:09
  to
• 37:09

• 37:10
  And
• 37:11
  soon
• 37:11
  to
• 37:12
  be
• 37:12
  South
• 37:12
  Fork
• 37:12

• 37:13
  in
• 37:14
  the
• 37:14
  other
• 37:14
  side.
• 37:15
  And
• 37:15
  then
• 37:15
  Brothers
• 37:16
  Brewing
• 37:16
  is
• 37:17
  right
• 37:17
  down
• 37:17
  the
• 37:17
  hall
• 37:18
  from
• 37:18
  me.
• 37:18
  They
• 37:18
  actually
• 37:18
  gave
• 37:19
  me
• 37:19
  a
• 37:19
  little
• 37:19
  sample
• 37:20
  before
• 37:20
  we
• 37:21
  started
• 37:21
  recording.
• 37:22
  So
• 37:23
  downtown
• 37:23
  Bluff
• 37:23
  City,
• 37:24
  big
• 37:24
  trout
• 37:24

• 37:25
  And
• 37:25
  we're
• 37:25
  open
• 37:26
  8:30
• 37:26
  to
• 37:26

• 37:27
  closed
• 37:28
  on
• 37:28
  Sundays
• 37:29
  and
• 37:29
  Tuesdays.
• 37:30
  Got
• 37:31
  it.
• 37:31
  And
• 37:31
  if
• 37:31
  folks
• 37:31
  want
• 37:31
  to
• 37:32
  learn
• 37:32
  more
• 37:32
  about
• 37:32
  the
• 37:32

• 37:33
  and
• 37:33
  kind
• 37:33
  of
• 37:33
  keep
• 37:34
  up
• 37:34
  with
• 37:34
  all
• 37:34
  things
• 37:34

• 37:35
  Where
• 37:35
  should
• 37:35
  they
• 37:36
  go?
• 37:37
  The
• 37:37
  best
• 37:38
  place
• 37:38
  is
• 37:38
  Instagram.
• 37:39
  So
• 37:39
  we're
• 37:39
  at
• 37:40

• 37:41
  and
• 37:41

  one
• 38:05
  more
• 38:05
  thing
• 38:05
  real
• 38:05
  quick.
• 38:06
  Marv,
• 38:06
  thank
• 38:07
  you
• 38:07
  so
• 38:07
  much
• 38:07
  for
• 38:07
  hosting
• 38:08
  this
• 38:08
  podcast.
• 38:09
  Thanks
• 38:09
  for
• 38:09
  having
• 38:09
  me
• 38:09
  on,
• 38:09
  but
• 38:10
  thanks
• 38:10
  for
• 38:10
  everything
• 38:11
  you
• 38:11
  do.
• 38:11
  Like
• 38:11
  I
• 38:11
  said,
• 38:12
  I've
• 38:12
  been
• 38:12
  a
• 38:12
  longtime
• 38:13
  listener.
• 38:13
  I've
• 38:13
  gotten
• 38:13
  a
• 38:14
  ton
• 38:14
  out
• 38:14
  of
• 38:14
  it,
• 38:14
  and
• 38:14
  I
• 38:15
  really
• 38:15
  appreciate
• 38:15
  you
• 38:15
  publishing
• 38:16
  it.
• 38:16
  Oh,
• 38:17
  I
• 38:17
  super
• 38:17
  appreciate
• 38:18
  that.
• 38:18
  Yeah,
• 38:18
  I
• 38:18
  just,
• 38:18
  you
• 38:18
  know,
• 38:19
  I
• 38:19
  think
• 38:19
  there,
• 38:19
  to
• 38:19
  your
• 38:20
  point,
• 38:20
  like,
• 38:20
  all
• 38:20
  the
• 38:20
  people
• 38:21
  you
• 38:21
  mentioned
• 38:21
  in
• 38:21
  your
• 38:21
  community,
• 38:22
  you
• 38:22
  know,
• 38:23
  there
• 38:23
  are
• 38:23
  all
• 38:23
  these
• 38:23
  great
• 38:24
  people
• 38:25
  that
• 38:25
  make,
• 38:26
  you
• 38:26
  know,
• 38:26
  fly
• 38:26
  fishing
• 38:27
  so
• 38:27
  much
• 38:27
  better.
• 38:28
  And
• 38:29
  I
• 38:29
  just
• 38:29
  love
• 38:29
  being
• 38:29
  able
• 38:30
  to
• 38:30
  kind
• 38:30
  of,
• 38:30
  you
• 38:31
  know,
• 38:31
  bring
• 38:31
  them
• 38:31
  on
• 38:31
  the
• 38:31
  show
• 38:32
  and,
• 38:32
  you
• 38:33
  know,
• 38:33
  work
• 38:33
  with
• 38:33
  people
• 38:33
  like
• 38:34
  you.
• 38:34
  Like,
• 38:34
  you
• 38:34
  know,
• 38:35
  when
• 38:35
  I,
• 38:35
  when
• 38:36
  Ellis
• 38:36
  and
• 38:36
  Matt
• 38:36
  told
• 38:36
  me
• 38:37
  that
• 38:37
  you'd
• 38:37
  open
• 38:37
  your
• 38:37
  shop,
• 38:37
  and
• 38:38
  then
• 38:38
  when
• 38:38
  the
• 38:38
  hurricane
• 38:39
  came
• 38:39
  through,
• 38:39
  I
• 38:39
  was
• 38:39
  like,
• 38:39
  we
• 38:39
  need
• 38:39
  to
• 38:39
  get
• 38:40
  him
• 38:40
  on
• 38:40
  the
• 38:40
  podcast.
• 38:42
  So,
• 38:43
  you
• 38:44
  know,
• 38:44
  I
• 38:44
  appreciate
• 38:44
  that.
• 38:45
  And,
• 38:45
  you
• 38:45
  know,
• 38:45
  it's
• 38:45
  a
• 38:45
  part
• 38:45
  of
• 38:45
  the
• 38:45
  world
• 38:46
  that
• 38:46
  I
• 38:46
  grew
• 38:46
  up
• 38:46
  in
• 38:47
  that
• 38:47
  I
• 38:47
  love,
• 38:48
  and
• 38:48
  I
• 38:48
  love
• 38:48
  being
• 38:48
  outdoors.
• 38:49
  So
• 38:49
  I
• 38:50
  really
• 38:50
  appreciate
• 38:50
  you
• 38:50
  saying
• 38:51
  that.
• 38:51
  And,
• 38:52
  you
• 38:52
  know,
• 38:53
  I
• 38:53
  will
• 38:53
  say,
• 38:53
  let's
• 38:54
  put
• 38:54
  you
• 38:54
  on
• 38:54
  the
• 38:54
  clock
• 38:54
  now.
• 38:55
  We
• 38:55
  say
• 38:55
  it
• 38:56
  so
• 38:56
  it
• 38:56
  has
• 38:56
  to
• 38:56
  happen.
• 38:57
  When's
• 38:57
  your
• 38:57
  online
• 38:58
  store
• 38:58
  going
• 38:58
  to
• 38:58
  launch?
• 39:00
  So
• 39:01
  we
• 39:01
  will
• 39:02
  be
• 39:03
  staggering
• 39:04
  it
• 39:04
  and
• 39:04
  tranching
• 39:04
  it
• 39:05
  so
• 39:05
  we
• 39:06
  will
• 39:06
  have
• 39:06
  something
• 39:07
  within
• 39:07
  the
• 39:08
  next
• 39:08
  few
• 39:08
  weeks.
• 39:08
  It
• 39:09
  may
• 39:09
  just
• 39:09
  be
• 39:09
  T
• 39:10
  shirts
• 39:10
  or
• 39:11
  hats
• 39:11
  or
• 39:11
  some
• 39:11
  other
• 39:12
  swag,
• 39:13
  but
• 39:14
  by
• 39:15
  the
• 39:15
  first
• 39:15
  of
• 39:15
  the
• 39:15
  year,
• 39:16
  we
• 39:16
  should
• 39:16
  hopefully
• 39:17
  have
• 39:17
  something
• 39:17
  a
• 39:18
  little
• 39:18
  bit
• 39:18
  more
• 39:18
  meaningful,
• 39:19
  and
• 39:20
  it
• 39:20
  will
• 39:20
  get
• 39:20
  better
• 39:21
  by
• 39:21
  the
• 39:21
  end
• 39:21
  of
• 39:21
  February.
• 39:22
  Very,
• 39:23
  very
• 39:23
  cool.
• 39:23
  Well,
• 39:23
  listen,
• 39:23
  John,
• 39:24
  I
• 39:24
  super
• 39:24
  appreciate
• 39:25
  you
• 39:25

• 39:25
  some
• 39:25
  time

• 39:28

• 39:28
  appreciate
