- 0:06Following Jesus isn't about having all the answers.
- 0:10It's about trusting God one step at a time. Welcome to Following Jesus in Real
- 0:14Life. It's a special series from Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 0:18My name is Angel, and together, we'll have honest conversations about faith,
- 0:23doubt, hope, grace, and what it truly means to follow Christ,
- 0:28not just on Sundays, but every single day.
- 0:31Have Faith, Let It Begin starts right now.
- 0:40Welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin. This is Ariel Santana.
- 0:44Can you believe I'm seven years old already? I'm old enough now to introduce my dad.
- 0:50Ladies and gentlemen, your host, my dad, Angel Santana.
- 0:57Two thousand came and the spark was lit.
- 1:31Good morning, everyone, and welcome to Have Faith, Let It Begin.
- 1:34I'm Angel Santana. Let me ask you a question.
- 1:37Have you ever looked at someone else's life and thought, I wish I had what they have?
- 1:43Maybe it's their career, their family, their ministry, their talents,
- 1:51their finances, or maybe it's their faith.
- 1:55In today's world we're consistently looking at everyone else's highlight reel
- 2:00while quietly criticizing our own behind the scenes life,
- 2:05today's episode is called comparison is killing your calling and i believe it's
- 2:12one of the greatest spiritual battles battles christians face today,
- 2:18So let's do the heart check.
- 2:19Comparison usually begins innocently.
- 2:24We admire someone. We appreciate their gifts. We celebrate their success.
- 2:32But somewhere along the way, admiration becomes envy. Gratitude becomes frustration.
- 2:41Contentment becomes dissatisfaction.
- 2:45Instead of thinking or thanking God for what he's doing in our lives,
- 2:52we begin wondering why our story doesn't look like someone else's.
- 2:57Let's talk about that. The danger of comparison isn't just that it steals your joy.
- 3:06It steals your focus.
- 3:09It steals your focus when you're consistently watching someone else's journey.
- 3:14You stop walking your own.
- 3:18God never asked you to become someone else. He created you with your own personality,
- 3:25your own gifts, your own experiences, your own story,
- 3:32and your own calling.
- 3:35No one else can fulfill the purpose God has prepared specifically for you.
- 3:41So let's look at a biblical perspective. Throughout scripture,
- 3:45God called ordinary people to extraordinary purposes.
- 3:49Moses wasn't Aaron. David wasn't Samuel. And Peter wasn't John.
- 3:57Paul wasn't Barnabas. Each person had different strengths, different personalities,
- 4:05and different assignments.
- 4:08Yet God used each of them in a very unique way.
- 4:13Their effectiveness came not from trying to imitate someone else,
- 4:18but from faithfully following the calling God had given them.
- 4:23So let me give you my personal perspective, my reflection.
- 4:28I can't tell you how many times and how many there have been moments in my life
- 4:32where I looked at other ministries, other speakers, other podcasters and thought,
- 4:39maybe I should be doing what they're doing because it's not working.
- 4:41I'm not getting the attraction. I'm not.
- 4:44But over time, I realized something. I realized something important.
- 4:49God didn't ask me to become another person.
- 4:52He asked me to be faithful with the opportunities he's placed in front of me.
- 4:58Have faith let it begin wasn't an accident.
- 5:02It's here. When I stopped comparing and started trusting, I found a greater
- 5:07peace and a renewed sense of purpose.
- 5:11The same is true for all of us.
- 5:14We need to live this out. Maybe today, you've been measuring your life against someone else's.
- 5:21Can I encourage you to stop looking sideways?
- 5:25Instead, look upward. Ask God, what have you called me to do?
- 5:32You can say that to him. What have you called me to do? Not everyone is called to preach.
- 5:38Not everyone is called to sing. Not everyone is called to lead ministry.
- 5:43But every follower of Jesus is called to faithfully serve where God has placed them.
- 5:50Faithfulness, not fame.
- 5:53Faithfulness not fame is what good yeah give me one second what god honors,
- 6:00so together noah and i have a faith challenge for you today spend a few minutes
- 6:05a few moments thanking god for gifts opportunities and relationships,
- 6:11he's already given you many opportunities okay noah's sitting on my lap hold on here we go lord.
- 6:20How do we say this lord how can I faithfully use what you're already placed in my hands.
- 6:26Instead of comparing yourself to someone else, commit to becoming a person or
- 6:32the person that God created you to be.
- 6:35Here's a closing thought. Someone else's success does not diminish your purpose.
- 6:40God has never confused your name with anyone else's. He knows exactly who you are.
- 6:46He knows exactly where you are. Can I go see the cats? You can go,
- 6:49yes, we will do that in a second.
- 6:51And he has a purpose that belongs to you alone.
- 6:54Yeah, we're going to walk in it.
- 6:56We're going to trust in him and leave the comparisons behind. Can you do that?
- 7:02Let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for creating each of us with a purpose.
- 7:07Forgive us for the times we've allowed comparison to steal our joy and distract
- 7:11us from the calling you've placed on your lives.
- 7:16Help us to celebrate others without losing sight of the unique work that you're doing in us.
- 7:21And teach us to be faithful with you.
- 7:24Teach us to be faithful with what you've entrusted to us.
- 7:28May we find confidence, not in comparing ourselves to others,
- 7:33but in knowing that we are loved, we're chosen, and we're called by you.
- 7:38In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
- 7:42Can you say amen? Yes. Say amen. Amen.
- 7:46Here's today's takeaway. Comparison steals your joy, but calling gives you purpose.
- 7:53Thank you for joining me for episode four of the following Jesus in real life. And remember.
- 8:02God didn't create you to compete with someone else. He created you to faithfully
- 8:07become who he designed you to be.
- 8:11So you know what we're going to do, Noah? We're going to keep walking.
- 8:14We're going to keep walking. We're going to keep trusting. Yes.
- 8:17We're going to keep believing.
- 8:19Okay. And never forget. And never do that.
- 8:22Have faith. Let it begin. Let it begin. Join us tomorrow for another episode.
- 8:27It's episode five of 10, learning to hear God's voice. We're going to recognize
- 8:31his guidance in the midst of the life of noise.
- 8:34And we'll talk about one of the questions that every Christian asks at some
- 8:38point. Let's go and do that. Come on, let's go move the cars.
- 8:40How do I know when God is speaking to me? We'll explore practical ways to become
- 8:44more attentive to his leading through scripture, prayer, wise counsel,
- 8:50and the quiet work of the Holy Spirit.
- 8:52I got to go move cars for my little son, Noah.
- 8:55God bless you. And we'll see you tomorrow. Take care. Say hasta la pasca. Hasta la pasca.
