- 0:00And we're back on the WGAN Morning News.
- 0:03I'm Aaron Chad, born in format on this Memorial Day.
- 0:05Hope you're staying dry out there as we wait for the rain to
- 0:08finish up, move out so we can hopefully have a decent
- 0:11afternoon. Try to attend that parade in
- 0:14Portland on Stevens Ave. It should be a nice way to do
- 0:17it. From now to the end of the show,
- 0:19we want to talk to you, get your takes, get your thoughts.
- 0:21879-9426 is the number. It's also the number for the
- 0:25text line. You can text into 207-879-9426.
- 0:30Next up on the phone line is Bruce from Auburn.
- 0:33Go ahead, Bruce. Good morning, Aaron.
- 0:35Thank you for taking my call. First of all, I, I want to
- 0:38commend WGN to be doing so well financially that they're able to
- 0:42bring in a big name star like you.
- 0:44I think what's the seventh time this month they have to be doing
- 0:48really well financially to be able to do that.
- 0:50I, I called though about Graham Plattner and the insight that
- 0:54that this man has. Have you been able to see the
- 0:57the campaign commercial that he has where he talks about the
- 1:02charade, the the end of the Susan Collins charade?
- 1:07And then he goes off about how she allowed this war to happen
- 1:11and how she's responsible for the greatest transfer of wealth
- 1:15from the oligarchs, from the working class that's ever
- 1:18happened. Have you seen that commercial?
- 1:20I believe I've seen the one you're talking about.
- 1:22I have to say I, I saw Senator Collins recently at an event and
- 1:26you know what bothers her the most?
- 1:27She said, you know, the thing that she goes, he can take issue
- 1:30with my policy positions, my votes, things like that.
- 1:33But she gets really upset when they, they allege that she's
- 1:36corrupt. She's like, here's someone that
- 1:38has not personally enriched herself.
- 1:40She's actually been the same person taking the same votes and
- 1:43she's been pretty consistent. And that's the one thing that
- 1:45gets to her because she knows that it's Chuck Schumer and all
- 1:47these people that want power. But to allege the corruption
- 1:50charge against her I think is unfair to her.
- 1:52And I can understand why I should be upset by it.
- 1:54Well, I, I, so help me understand this grandfather
- 1:58who's running for U.S. Senate wants my vote.
- 2:01He, he's alleging that that she allowed the, the current war
- 2:06with Iran. So if she allowed the war to
- 2:09happen, is it because of her influence with Donald Trump that
- 2:12she could have controlled him from not doing the war?
- 2:15Or is he alleging that she had so much influence?
- 2:18She could have. She's preventing the Iranians
- 2:20from making a deal because of her influence.
- 2:24I mean, she's just one of 100 US senators.
- 2:26And why aren't the other senators able to prevent the
- 2:29war? She's a He's alleging that she
- 2:31could have prevented the war. I think in this particular case,
- 2:35Susan Collins voted against the resolution on the.
- 2:40It was called the War Powers Resolution, which could have
- 2:43forced the president to stop spending money on the conflict.
- 2:46And so she joined with the Republicans to vote against
- 2:48that. I think there were reasons that
- 2:49she decided at the time. I think that's what he's using
- 2:51as a substantiation for his claim, saying she could have
- 2:54voted to curtail the president's authority.
- 2:57She did believe that under the War Powers Act that he did have
- 3:00the authority for 60 days to be able to do it.
- 3:02Now, since that time, who knows? There hasn't been a similar War
- 3:06Powers resolution come forward yet.
- 3:08And Trump has been arguing that the ceasefire kind of told the
- 3:13counting of days. So I think that's what he's
- 3:15saying. But no, you're absolutely right
- 3:16that the president has executive powers.
- 3:19And Susan Collins, how is she going to be the one person?
- 3:22But that's what they do. They have to make her into the
- 3:24boogeyman. You know, this Bruce, the the
- 3:25argument against Susan Collins has to be that she's
- 3:28establishment out of touch career politician, that she's
- 3:31very old, that she is a rubber stamp for Donald Trump.
- 3:35She's just Trump, Trump, Trump enablist Trump, Trump, Trump
- 3:38derangement syndrome. And then they make it about
- 3:41abortion. And I think This is why I've
- 3:43said that Graham Platner is a more formidable candidate
- 3:45against Susan Collins than Janet Mills would have been because
- 3:48Janet Mills couldn't have talked about Susan Collins age, because
- 3:51Janet Mills is older. She couldn't have called Susan
- 3:53Collins a career politician because Janet Mills is a career
- 3:57politician. She couldn't say that Susan
- 3:59Collins in the tank for special interest because Janet Mills in
- 4:01the tank for special interest. So that would have been a much
- 4:03more, you know, basic race Platner, he can get around
- 4:06everything and and he can get all away with it.
- 4:08The only thing he can't take the moral high ground on is but
- 4:11whatever posting she's done on the Internet.
- 4:14The danger with Graham Platiner is out of central casting and we
- 4:18have too many voters that have a mindset that they think that
- 4:22wrestling is real. If they probe Platiner and they
- 4:26look for the truth behind what he's saying, he doesn't have any
- 4:30substance and much of it is distorted and not accurate.
- 4:34But a lot of that Bruce and I appreciate the point.
- 4:36I don't think you're wrong. However, that was the same
- 4:38criticism of Alexandria Ocasio Cortez.
- 4:42And yet, what have we seen? She's gone on to be one of the
- 4:45most prominent political figures on the left.
- 4:48She is kind of driving the narrative.
- 4:50She really in many ways this, the showdown between Mills and
- 4:54Plattner was really a showdown between AOC, Bernie Mamdani and
- 4:58the Chuck Schumer establishment wing.
- 5:00And so if you look at a OCA lot of the criticisms you just said
- 5:03about Graham Plattner would apply to AOC, would apply to
- 5:05Zoran Mamdani. And yet they are the ascendant
- 5:08figures and the left in the Democrat Party.
- 5:10And so you're right to point out that that's what we we could
- 5:13have coming. Yeah.
- 5:16I, I, I don't know where this stops.
- 5:17I don't know where this distortion stops.
- 5:20Is it it, it just it, it's, it's killing us.
- 5:23It's literally killing the country.
- 5:25Yeah, well, thanks for the call Bruce, good to talk to you.
- 5:28Thanks for listening. Hope you have a safe and and dry
- 5:31Memorial Day 8799426879 WGAN the number if you want to join the
- 5:36conversation. And I'll say that you know, this
- 5:39election is going to make a big difference.
- 5:41I think we're going to see a lot of different factors play out
- 5:44between now and Election Day between I mean the the primary
- 5:47hasn't even happened yet. We're two weeks away from the
- 5:49primary, but we've seen the ad spending right now is insane.
- 5:53There's insanity. And as we move closer and closer
- 5:55to the general election, it's going to continue.
- 5:58And by the way, once we get past the primary and, and, and this
- 6:02speaks to Bruce's first point on how the radio station has enough
- 6:05money to pay me, ad rates drop again right after the primary
- 6:08and then they go back up when you get within the window.
- 6:10So it's going to be cheaper for Susan Collins and Graham Platner
- 6:14and their super PACs to put more ads on, on on air.
- 6:18And so I think we're we're just ramping up.
- 6:21We're just getting started. We'll see what happens.
- 6:24I yeah, it's, it's going to be, it's going to be crazy once we
- 6:28get into, you know, September, October.
- 6:32Yeah. Those those ads are going to be
- 6:34insane. They already are.
- 6:35I mean, it's hard to imagine them getting any more insane
- 6:37than they already are, but. I Oh, they will.
- 6:39They will. It's kind of, we're going to get
- 6:41a little bit of a break too from these gubernatorial ads for
- 6:43having all of the candidates, the Jonathan Bush and Garrett
- 6:45Mason and Bobby Charles and you know, all of them, or Shanna and
- 6:50Hannah and Nirav and who else, I guess King.
- 6:54Does Troy have any commercials? I don't know if he has enough
- 6:55money for it, but the. I feel like I've heard some I I
- 7:00do see an Owen McCarthy 1 coming up in the.
- 7:02Next break. But he does have some Owen is is
- 7:04gotten on the air. His commercials are out there
- 7:06too. But so you got all proliferation
- 7:08that'll kind of narrow down because you have one candidate
- 7:10on each side and then the independence of course.
- 7:12But I think the amount of Platner Collins ads you're
- 7:15starting to see, we've only scratched the surface.
- 7:18Let's take our final news break right now so that we can come
- 7:22back and finish strong with your calls. 879-9426 On this Memorial
