- 0:00Speaker 1: Cornerback coach under Kaitlin de Boor. In the twenty two
- 0:02Speaker 1: and twenty three season, Juice Brown joins us on the
- 0:05Speaker 1: Beacon Plumbing Hotline from Texas to talk about his last
- 0:09Speaker 1: two years coaching. We're actually waiting on Juice Brown, maybe
- 0:15Speaker 1: a team meeting down in fort where the horn frogs
- 0:18Speaker 1: in spring practice for oh we know, Okay, we'll pump
- 0:22Speaker 1: the brakes on him joining the show, but we're waiting
- 0:24Speaker 1: on him. And hold. Bud Clark is a safety with
- 0:29Speaker 1: what scouts believe is our cornerback skills and the versatility.
- 0:35Speaker 1: We talk about Mike McDonald loving to move his defensive
- 0:38Speaker 1: backs around in as chess pieces, and that's what they
- 0:41Speaker 1: think they have in Bud Clark. They also love his competitors.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Clark was not nearly as brash talking to us on
- 0:48Speaker 1: the phone right after he got drafted Friday night, as
- 0:50Speaker 1: was third round pick Juliet Neal, who also you already
- 0:54Speaker 1: heard from. But Clark did compare himself to Camp Chancellor
- 0:58Speaker 1: and say he's the hammer and not the nail type
- 1:01Speaker 1: of guy, and that he loved the physicality piece that
- 1:04Speaker 1: Cam Chancellor brought. He knew all about Chancellor in particular
- 1:07Speaker 1: in the Seahawks Legion of Boom Years, which for him
- 1:10Speaker 1: was when he was like twelve years old. But Bud Clark,
- 1:14Speaker 1: the Seahawks scouts and general manager will tell you they
- 1:18Speaker 1: love his competitiveness, they love his confidence, and that he
- 1:22Speaker 1: is brash as well, maybe not to come off as
- 1:24Speaker 1: brash as Julian Love did to us. Julian, excuse me, Neil,
- 1:28Speaker 1: the third round pick a cornerback was but that, Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 1: they think Bud Clark has some of that as well.
- 1:35Speaker 1: That's something else we can ask Juice Brown, the TCU
- 1:38Speaker 1: cornerbacks coach. He's on the Beacon Plumbing hotline right now.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I'm assuming from Fort Worth, Texas. Hello coach, thanks for
- 1:43Speaker 1: joining us today.
- 1:45Speaker 2: No problem. How you guys doing.
- 1:46Speaker 1: We are well. Thank you. Former Washington Husky's assistant Juice
- 1:50Speaker 1: Brown here on the show. Coach tell us we see
- 1:54Speaker 1: fifteen interceptions from Bud Clark, a lot for a safety,
- 1:58Speaker 1: seven of them. Well, the last two seasons you coached
- 2:01Speaker 1: him down in Fort Worth, what would you attribute the
- 2:04Speaker 1: skills that Bud Clark has as to why he was
- 2:06Speaker 1: picking off so many passes?
- 2:07Speaker 2: For you, guys, Bud is as competitive as they come.
- 2:11Speaker 2: You know, I told all the scouts that came through here,
- 2:14Speaker 2: Bud Clark is one of those kids. And there's not
- 2:16Speaker 2: a lot of them. But if you call some people
- 2:18Speaker 2: and say, hey, let's go play tackle football in the park,
- 2:21Speaker 2: Bud Clark could go play it. You know. He just
- 2:23Speaker 2: loves to play the game so much. And I think
- 2:25Speaker 2: he has great ball skills. I think he anticipates really well,
- 2:31Speaker 2: and he's a competitive kid.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Was he taking at times? They excuse me, you're fitting
- 2:39Speaker 1: in out there? Did you did you see I'm sorry,
- 2:42Speaker 1: did you see him taking risk? At times? He was?
- 2:45Speaker 1: He's taking so many angles on balls and jumping so
- 2:48Speaker 1: many routes or was that just the way he plays
- 2:50Speaker 1: and you let him play that way?
- 2:53Speaker 2: You know, I wasn't. I was coaching the corners obviously
- 2:56Speaker 2: had a safety's coach. But Bud prepares. And the one
- 2:58Speaker 2: thing about him, you know, if you those guys have
- 3:00Speaker 2: got instincts and they prepare. You know, we tell him
- 3:03Speaker 2: to anticipate, and he did a really good job of
- 3:05Speaker 2: anticipating and if he believes that, he's going to go
- 3:08Speaker 2: for it, and a lot of times he was more
- 3:11Speaker 2: successful than not.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Hey coach at TCU, how did you guys move butt
- 3:16Speaker 3: around schematically? And how do you think that would translate
- 3:19Speaker 3: to what the Seahawks like to do defensively because they
- 3:22Speaker 3: move all the dbs all over the place in that secondary.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Bud Clark is so athletic, he's so fluid, he's fast.
- 3:29Speaker 2: He can stick his foot in the ground and change directions. So,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you know, I think he can play multiple spots. You know,
- 3:35Speaker 2: we played them at free safety, which in our defense,
- 3:38Speaker 2: he either played man coverage, he played the post. We
- 3:42Speaker 2: blitzed him. You know, he's a kid that can play
- 3:44Speaker 2: in the slot. He's athletic enough. You know, he can
- 3:47Speaker 2: cover man the man, he can play zone. So there's
- 3:50Speaker 2: really no hole in his game. You know. Obviously he's
- 3:54Speaker 2: going to continue to develop his body, right, he's going
- 3:56Speaker 2: to get bigger. But he can really play a multitude
- 4:00Speaker 2: of spots. It just all depends on how you want
- 4:02Speaker 2: to use him.
- 4:04Speaker 1: This is coach Juice Brownie's the cornerbacks coach at Texas
- 4:07Speaker 1: Christian University, where Seahawks second round pick Bud Clark played
- 4:10Speaker 1: in that secondary. He joined us in the Beacon Plumbing
- 4:12Speaker 1: hotline here on ninety three point three KGRFM. Former you
- 4:15Speaker 1: dub assistant under Cavin Debor as well. Coach you mentioned
- 4:18Speaker 1: he's competitive like few others. Bud Clark, the second round
- 4:21Speaker 1: pick for the Seahawks. How did that show up day
- 4:24Speaker 1: to day and practices or games or what was it that?
- 4:28Speaker 1: How did that show up? What did you notice that
- 4:31Speaker 1: he was doing that? Very few do well?
- 4:34Speaker 2: The one thing in practice and you're going to know
- 4:36Speaker 2: exactly where he's at. You know, he's going to talk
- 4:38Speaker 2: to the offense in a good way, in a competitive way.
- 4:42Speaker 2: And so he's one of those guys. Man, he he
- 4:45Speaker 2: runs all day long. You know, he doesn't get tired.
- 4:48Speaker 2: He's gonna take every rep. You know, when I first
- 4:51Speaker 2: got here, I'm just watching him and you know, you're
- 4:54Speaker 2: new to the staff and you're just trying to figure
- 4:55Speaker 2: everybody out. And I'll see this guy as he jabbing
- 4:58Speaker 2: at the offense, he's talking and then shoot, when we
- 5:01Speaker 2: go out to practice field. I mean, you talk about
- 5:03Speaker 2: a dude that practices. He doesn't take days off if
- 5:07Speaker 2: it's the day. But Clark isn't that practice. You know,
- 5:09Speaker 2: he's really really banged up. And so like I say, man,
- 5:13Speaker 2: Seattle's in for a treat with him. He gonna love
- 5:15Speaker 2: to play. He gonna have energy when he does it.
- 5:19Speaker 2: The crowd, the crowd, they gonna love him.
- 5:22Speaker 1: When you moved from Washington to TCU, coach, did what
- 5:26Speaker 1: do you notice about how the wide open Big twelve
- 5:30Speaker 1: passing games prepare and cornerbacks in safeties for NFL play?
- 5:35Speaker 1: What's unique about what you guys are facing week in
- 5:37Speaker 1: and week out in the past game, in the past
- 5:39Speaker 1: defense game.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you look at the Big twelve, right,
- 5:42Speaker 2: it's it's quarterbacks, it's wide receivers. And the wide receivers
- 5:46Speaker 2: are all tall. You know, they're tall guys. If you
- 5:49Speaker 2: got some spread offenses, you know they got smaller guys
- 5:51Speaker 2: in the slot. And so I think the thing that's
- 5:54Speaker 2: prepared Bud is he's seen every type of wide receiver
- 5:57Speaker 2: you can see. He's covered guys that are six four
- 5:59Speaker 2: sixty five. He's covered the five nine jitter bugs in
- 6:02Speaker 2: the slot. You know what I mean, He's seen it.
- 6:06Speaker 2: He's seen really good quarterback play. You know, spread offens
- 6:10Speaker 2: is huge. RPO throws are huge in the Big twelve,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and so he's seen all of those things. And so
- 6:15Speaker 2: I don't think I don't think he's gonna get intimidated
- 6:18Speaker 2: by anybody who goes against I think he's going to
- 6:20Speaker 2: be a guy that's going to welcome the challenge. You know,
- 6:23Speaker 2: he's gonna want to compete against the best players even
- 6:26Speaker 2: in practice. You know, he's gonna want to take reps
- 6:28Speaker 2: against the best players, and he's gonna work on his craft.
- 6:32Speaker 2: And so I'm so happy for him, you know, talking
- 6:35Speaker 2: to him, I'm proud of him. And like I said,
- 6:38Speaker 2: man Seattle's going to be in for a tregue with but.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Clark in those big games, tough games, big moments.
- 6:44Speaker 1: What happened?
- 6:45Speaker 3: What did Bud show you about who he actually is
- 6:48Speaker 3: as a competitor on that field.
- 6:51Speaker 2: I just look at it like this. This year we
- 6:53Speaker 2: played in n Alamo Ball against USC which if you
- 6:55Speaker 2: watch college football, a lot of players opted out of
- 6:58Speaker 2: bowl games.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 6:59Speaker 2: It's like, okay, the draft pick guys if they weren't
- 7:02Speaker 2: playing and necessarily the quote unquote playoffs or the big games,
- 7:06Speaker 2: they wouldn't play. And Bud Clark went out and played
- 7:08Speaker 2: against s C and he played every snap, every single snap,
- 7:13Speaker 2: and he wanted to play, and he wanted to leave
- 7:15Speaker 2: his mark on this program, and he wanted to go
- 7:17Speaker 2: compete against the best players, and so he knew USC
- 7:20Speaker 2: had a lot of good players. Obviously some of them
- 7:22Speaker 2: opted out, but he wanted to be there every step
- 7:24Speaker 2: of the way. And that just showed me a lot
- 7:26Speaker 2: about Bud Clark and who is because he could have
- 7:28Speaker 2: easily not played in that game, and he went out
- 7:31Speaker 2: and played and he played every snap.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Coaches Brown the quarterbacks coach for TCU, where he just
- 7:38Speaker 1: coached for two years. Bud Clark the second round pick
- 7:40Speaker 1: for the Seahawks. He's joined us on the Beacon Plumbing
- 7:42Speaker 1: Hotland here on ninety three point three kJ RFM. You
- 7:45Speaker 1: said you talked to Bud Clark since the draft day.
- 7:47Speaker 2: Assume Yeah, yeah, we were just talking over text. I
- 7:51Speaker 2: just told him how much he was gonna love Seattle.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I got a good friend who lives out there, Greg Wahsak,
- 7:57Speaker 2: so I told him he had met him. Greg left
- 8:00Speaker 2: to a couple of games. So I just said, anything
- 8:01Speaker 2: you need, man, I got you. And so he's all
- 8:04Speaker 2: love Seattle. You know, he's a kid that's from the country.
- 8:06Speaker 2: He grew up in Louisiana, That's where he's from, and
- 8:09Speaker 2: so I know he's gonna love the city. Of Seattle in.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Your time, even in the last five years since you
- 8:15Speaker 1: were at you dubb how college football has changed and
- 8:18Speaker 1: transfers and nils, But Clark stayed at TCU. He's won
- 8:22Speaker 1: of multiple Seahawks they drafted this weekend who played all
- 8:25Speaker 1: of his college years at the same school, Jared Jendarian Price,
- 8:30Speaker 1: the Seahawks number one pick, did the same thing in
- 8:32Speaker 1: Notre Dame. What in that in itself does that tell
- 8:35Speaker 1: you as a college coach when you have a guy
- 8:36Speaker 1: willing to be in the program for four or five,
- 8:39Speaker 1: six years, six years and Bud Clark, Yes.
- 8:42Speaker 2: I mean it tells you a lot about their character,
- 8:44Speaker 2: you know, and the things that they stand for. Bud
- 8:46Speaker 2: Clark had the chance after his junior year to go
- 8:49Speaker 2: to the NFL Draft or go to a different college.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Trust me, there was a lot of colleges coming after him,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and he decided to stay. He wanted to become a
- 8:58Speaker 2: better football player, He wanted to finish with his teammates.
- 9:01Speaker 2: He thought we had a chance to have a special
- 9:02Speaker 2: year and he wanted to be a part of it.
- 9:04Speaker 2: And so again, I think it just speaks to the
- 9:07Speaker 2: character of that kid. You know, he's not going to
- 9:09Speaker 2: take shortcuts. He's going to look the challenge right now,
- 9:13Speaker 2: eye and anything he signs up for, he's going to
- 9:15Speaker 2: stand there, toe to toe and try to get it done.
- 9:17Speaker 1: TCU cornerbacks coach Juice Brown on the phone with us
- 9:20Speaker 1: from Texas here on a ninety three point three kids, Jeff,
- 9:23Speaker 1: can you talk to us about that dynamic alan coach
- 9:25Speaker 1: that do you have to actually actively re recruit your
- 9:30Speaker 1: own players during a season knowing that there are programs
- 9:33Speaker 1: coming after your guys and you have to offer them
- 9:36Speaker 1: nil money in season? And how many budget meetings do
- 9:39Speaker 1: you have about nil to retain your own let alone
- 9:42Speaker 1: get transfers. How much of your time that you used
- 9:45Speaker 1: to spend game planning or doing things during the season
- 9:48Speaker 1: toward the team itself and the practices and games. How
- 9:51Speaker 1: much of that time is spent trying to maintain your
- 9:54Speaker 1: own roster to keep him from leaving.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, as a position coach, you obviously are
- 9:59Speaker 2: very where the schools are coming after your guys, and
- 10:02Speaker 2: so you know you have a great relationship with the
- 10:04Speaker 2: guys you coach. They'll tell you. You know, as an
- 10:07Speaker 2: assistant obviously, now in college football you have huge departments right,
- 10:11Speaker 2: and a lot like the NFL, colleges now have general
- 10:13Speaker 2: managers who really deal with that stuff and take it
- 10:16Speaker 2: off of our plate. For us, it's just really making
- 10:19Speaker 2: sure that you control your room, you know, because I
- 10:22Speaker 2: tell guys all the time, I mean, you can wake
- 10:24Speaker 2: up as a position coach after the season over and
- 10:26Speaker 2: literally every player out of your room could be gone.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Every single player can be fun. And so it's just
- 10:34Speaker 2: it's just, you know, it's just coaching those kids, you know,
- 10:39Speaker 2: making sure that they believe in the things that you're teaching,
- 10:42Speaker 2: making sure you're continuing to grow them as men as
- 10:44Speaker 2: at football players. And my experience with it is, you know,
- 10:47Speaker 2: if you do those things and you're developing them, and
- 10:49Speaker 2: you're growing them on and off the field, and you're
- 10:52Speaker 2: able to compete in ioise, those kids will stay. You know.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Those kids are the ones I've been around that really
- 10:58Speaker 2: work hard, that don't really want want to take the
- 11:00Speaker 2: short cracker, I want to stick it out. People like
- 11:02Speaker 2: but Clark, they'll stay and continue to get better and hopefully,
- 11:06Speaker 2: you know, for us here at TCU, but Clark is
- 11:08Speaker 2: a prime example. You know, you look at a kid,
- 11:10Speaker 2: like I said, he could have left after his junior year,
- 11:13Speaker 2: and he came back and ended up being a second
- 11:15Speaker 2: round pick. So, you know, he maximized his opportunity, maximized
- 11:20Speaker 2: his development. He graduated from college and now he's able
- 11:23Speaker 2: to go on and chase his dream.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's also a father. He had a son with his
- 11:28Speaker 1: now fiancee who's about to marry. How did that show up?
- 11:32Speaker 1: How did he handle that? From a football coaches perspective,
- 11:37Speaker 1: what I mean, that's a we all know, that's a
- 11:40Speaker 1: full time job to be a big time college football
- 11:42Speaker 1: player and stay eligible in your class work. How did
- 11:44Speaker 1: he handle all of that?
- 11:47Speaker 2: He did a great job. His son showed up to practice.
- 11:49Speaker 2: His son was a scrimmagist. I have a son who's
- 11:52Speaker 2: one year older than his so when they were out
- 11:55Speaker 2: on the field, man, they just running around, and you know,
- 11:58Speaker 2: I've just seen the kid be a really good dad.
- 12:01Speaker 2: You know, I know he cares about his son. I
- 12:03Speaker 2: know he cares about his fiance you know, and they
- 12:05Speaker 2: live together like a family. And he would be here
- 12:07Speaker 2: at the facility, and you know, he would have his
- 12:10Speaker 2: son in the facility, and I know, you know, they're
- 12:13Speaker 2: doing a great job of raising that kid. So he
- 12:16Speaker 2: does he does a hell of a job.
- 12:18Speaker 1: What is it about the TCU program with Sonny Dikes
- 12:21Speaker 1: that turns out these NFL prospects and three more drafted
- 12:25Speaker 1: now the second round pick Bud Clark. And how does
- 12:28Speaker 1: Sonny Dikes your program there at TCU prepare these guys
- 12:31Speaker 1: and how Bud Clark developed to a new an NFL
- 12:33Speaker 1: player in it?
- 12:35Speaker 2: You know, I think if it's like I said, it's
- 12:37Speaker 2: the development part. I think that our guys are playing
- 12:40Speaker 2: in NFL type systems. You know, I just look at
- 12:43Speaker 2: the guys we had drafted on defense. They play in
- 12:45Speaker 2: NFL system. There's checks that they have to make. You know,
- 12:48Speaker 2: we aligned by a formation, we aligned by personnel, and
- 12:50Speaker 2: so you know, those guys have to be smart football players.
- 12:54Speaker 2: They have to anticipate. And I think when scouts come
- 12:57Speaker 2: here and you get around these kids, and first of all,
- 12:59Speaker 2: you figure out the they're really good kids, and they
- 13:01Speaker 2: work really hard and obviously they had God given ability, right,
- 13:05Speaker 2: But then when you really break down and figure out
- 13:07Speaker 2: how much time they put in working on their craft
- 13:10Speaker 2: and how much it means to them, I think it
- 13:12Speaker 2: shows And like I said, we have three guys drafting
- 13:15Speaker 2: on defense. We have a bunch of guys going to
- 13:17Speaker 2: camps and those kids are really really smart football players.
- 13:20Speaker 2: They love to play, and you know, Coach Dykes allows them.
- 13:24Speaker 4: To do that.
- 13:26Speaker 3: Coach, what's the one thing about Bud that it probably
- 13:31Speaker 3: doesn't show up on tape, but it still makes him
- 13:34Speaker 3: a special player that's joined this incredible locker room that
- 13:36Speaker 3: just won a Super Bowl.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I think the guy's gonna love his personality. Like I said,
- 13:41Speaker 2: he's one of those guys. Man, he's gonna talk to talk,
- 13:44Speaker 2: he's gonna walk the walk, and he's gonna do it
- 13:47Speaker 2: in a great way. And so I think that's the
- 13:50Speaker 2: thing in the locker room the guys are gonna appreciate.
- 13:52Speaker 2: There's no throw moments around Buck Clark. So you know
- 13:56Speaker 2: he's gonna be laughing and joking in the locker room.
- 13:58Speaker 2: He's gonna be laughing and joking on the field. When
- 13:59Speaker 2: you I see him in practice, I'm telling you he'll
- 14:02Speaker 2: be running around, bouncing off the walls and you go,
- 14:04Speaker 2: look at this guy, and he never gets tired. He
- 14:07Speaker 2: never gets tired. It's the damnedest thing. And he's one
- 14:10Speaker 2: of those guys man, he can just go. He can
- 14:12Speaker 2: go all day long. So I think that's the one
- 14:14Speaker 2: thing that'll show up. I think the fans of Seattle
- 14:17Speaker 2: embrace that because the way he plays, you know, the
- 14:19Speaker 2: crowd will love it. He plays with fire, he plays
- 14:21Speaker 2: with edge, and like I said, the game is very
- 14:23Speaker 2: important to him.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Now he is going to the next level and there
- 14:26Speaker 3: are going to be obviously challenges. So what's the probably
- 14:29Speaker 3: biggest adjustment for Bud going in that is going to
- 14:32Speaker 3: have to make early on once he gets to Seattle
- 14:34Speaker 3: and get things rolling.
- 14:36Speaker 2: I think just the speed of the game. You know,
- 14:37Speaker 2: all those guys are going to be fast like him.
- 14:40Speaker 2: You know, obviously in college there was times he showed
- 14:42Speaker 2: out on the field and he's one of the fastest guys,
- 14:45Speaker 2: and he'll he'll be fast in the NFL. But we
- 14:47Speaker 2: all know all those guys are fast. I just think
- 14:49Speaker 2: the nature of that now here. The last three years
- 14:52Speaker 2: we practiced so fast and the pace of play we
- 14:55Speaker 2: played on offense, you know, he had to run and
- 14:57Speaker 2: get lined up really fast, you know. But I think
- 14:59Speaker 2: just you know, just getting accustomed to the rules and
- 15:02Speaker 2: how guys lined up and figuring out the hashes and
- 15:05Speaker 2: things like that. But once he does that, and you know,
- 15:08Speaker 2: it won't. It won't take long for him to figure
- 15:10Speaker 2: that out. He'll put in the time and effort for
- 15:12Speaker 2: so I look for him to have a great season.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Coach Juice Brown, thank you for your time, sir. Welcome
- 15:18Speaker 1: back on the Seattle airways, back to your old U
- 15:21Speaker 1: dub days from a few years ago, and have fun
- 15:23Speaker 1: with your young son. Thanks for joining us on KGr.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Thank thank you guys enjoyed Bud Clark.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Oh we shall and the hopefully Seahawks fans will too.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Thank you, sir. Juice Brown, the cornerbacks coach for Texas
- 15:36Speaker 1: Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, where Bud Clark played
- 15:39Speaker 1: all six years of his college experience. He had six seasons,
- 15:43Speaker 1: counting a red shirt and a COVID year, and he
- 15:47Speaker 1: stayed all six years at TCU. Juice Brown telling us
- 15:50Speaker 1: that he could have Bud Clark could have left after
- 15:54Speaker 1: what would have been his normal senior red shirt senior
- 15:56Speaker 1: year to go to the NFL, and that he many
- 16:00Speaker 1: colleges came asking for him and nil money to transfer,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and Clark did neither and he stayed in one of
- 16:07Speaker 1: he was one of the TCU's standouts. He said that
- 16:09Speaker 1: the Bowl game that guys were opting out of left
- 16:11Speaker 1: and right, including half a USC's roster. This past winner,
- 16:15Speaker 1: Bud Clark played every snap. He made a point of
- 16:18Speaker 1: telling us in that Bowl game he said he's going
- 16:21Speaker 1: to talk to the offense. Who does that sound like
- 16:23Speaker 1: Chris When he said that, I immediately thought of one guy.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Well, there's two in my head, Devin Witherspoon, And if
- 16:30Speaker 3: you want to go way back, you can bring up
- 16:31Speaker 3: you know, everyone's favorite from Seattle, Jamal Adams.
- 16:34Speaker 1: So yeah, I was thinking Richard Sherman from before that,
- 16:37Speaker 1: but oh, we're going way back but even better. But yeah,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Devin Witherspoon is who I was thinking of it. As
- 16:42Speaker 1: soon as he said that, I thought he and Witherspoon
- 16:44Speaker 1: together are going to be a trip. And that's exactly
- 16:46Speaker 1: what John Schneider said after they drafted Bud Clark. They
- 16:49Speaker 1: said that the Seahawks scouts were saying, can you imagine
- 16:53Speaker 1: if we get Bud Clark with Bud Clark and Devin
- 16:56Speaker 1: Witherspoon in the same defensive meetings and secondary are going
- 16:58Speaker 1: to be like it's going to be non stop chatter,
- 17:01Speaker 1: NonStop wolfing, and NonStop everything. I mean Witherspoon is as
- 17:06Speaker 1: close as an NFL player. I've covered in the NFL
- 17:08Speaker 1: for twenty six years. Oh excuse me, twenty years. I
- 17:12Speaker 1: haven't seen a player like Richard Sherman other than Devin Witherspoon.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Both in Bravado talk, skill, production, latitude. He gets on
- 17:21Speaker 1: the field with the coaches and these guys are saying
- 17:25Speaker 1: Bud Clark has a similar pushsona and now will see
- 17:27Speaker 1: how good of a player he is. Obviously, but you
- 17:31Speaker 1: just heard Juice Brown on the phone from Texas and
- 17:33Speaker 1: TCU's cornerbacks coach saying that he's going to be jabbing
- 17:37Speaker 1: at the offense. Seattle's in for a treat with him.
- 17:40Speaker 1: But as competitive as they come to see you, cornerbacks
- 17:43Speaker 1: coach Juice Brown said, great ball skills, anticipates really well.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Bud Clark is so athletic, he's so fluid, he's fast
- 17:50Speaker 1: that he played him at free safety. I'm telling you,
- 17:53Speaker 1: coach Juice Brown said of Bud Clark, He's going to
- 17:56Speaker 1: be running around, bouncing off the walls. I'm telling he
- 17:59Speaker 1: never gets tired. That's what the Seahawks have in their
- 18:03Speaker 1: second round draft pick from TCU. If you missed that
- 18:06Speaker 1: interview with Juice Brown, the secondary coach from the TCU
- 18:10Speaker 1: horn Frogs that coached Bud Clark the last two seasons.

- 20:16Speaker 3: From the four too five. In my opinion, you never
- 20:19Speaker 3: want to and I quote win the draft or free agency.
- 20:24Speaker 3: The team that do it doesn't seem to work out
- 20:27Speaker 3: for them. I'll take a boring draft any day. And
- 20:30Speaker 3: also what about the development aspect of a team for
- 20:33Speaker 3: those for these new draft picks.
- 20:37Speaker 1: What do you think.
- 20:40Speaker 3: I think from the Seahawks, I think they do an
- 20:43Speaker 3: outstanding job of preparing guys for opportunities right where they
- 20:48Speaker 3: get them or not, they're prepared for it.
- 20:52Speaker 4: You look at Niemiah Pritchett for example.
- 20:55Speaker 3: Did he have the greatest game, No, but he had
- 20:57Speaker 3: one of the best PBUs I have. I don't know
- 21:01Speaker 3: how he did it, but it goes with the reps
- 21:03Speaker 3: and even Mike McDonald talked about repetitions and when they're
- 21:06Speaker 3: thrown to the fire, it's not necessary the fire.
- 21:08Speaker 4: They were prepared for this moment.
- 21:10Speaker 3: Whether reporters fans where they believe or not, it's completely different.
- 21:14Speaker 3: They believe in one another and when they get out
- 21:16Speaker 3: there and get on that field. I think the Steyhowks
- 21:18Speaker 3: do a tremendous job of making sure that every guy
- 21:20Speaker 3: is ready for his moment. Hell, look at Drake Thomas,
- 21:23Speaker 3: a guy that broke his leg was it two three
- 21:26Speaker 3: seasons ago? Was a fringe guy, linebacker.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Practice screw up player, claimed off waivers from the Raiders.
- 21:32Speaker 3: And now he's got a new deal them locking him
- 21:35Speaker 3: up for a few years, and he's making the most
- 21:37Speaker 3: money he's ever made and he's playing linebacker with Ernest
- 21:39Speaker 3: Jones on a Super Bowl winning team.
- 21:41Speaker 1: By the way, if Drake Thomas doesn't intercept that pass,
- 21:43Speaker 1: the one off of Christian McCaffrey's hands in the inside
- 21:46Speaker 1: the ten yard line in the fourth quarter, early in
- 21:48Speaker 1: the fourth quarter of a thirteen to three game Week
- 21:50Speaker 1: eighteen in San Francisco, who knows what would have happened
- 21:52Speaker 1: in there. It would have been thirteen ten with the
- 21:55Speaker 1: forty nine ers with the moment I'm having scored their
- 21:57Speaker 1: first touchdown the game. Instead, they didn't score a touchdown
- 22:00Speaker 1: at all thanks to that play by Drake Thomas. I
- 22:03Speaker 1: talked to him in the locker room after that game
- 22:05Speaker 1: in Santa Clara the early January, and he was smoking
- 22:09Speaker 1: a cigar because they had clinched the number one seed
- 22:12Speaker 1: and they were gonna have a buye that week. And
- 22:13Speaker 1: the guys were smoking cigars in the locker room celebrating,
- 22:16Speaker 1: and I said, I have a pretty cool cigar. You're
- 22:18Speaker 1: a pretty cool deal. You make an interception like that
- 22:21Speaker 1: and smoking He said, this is the first cigar I've
- 22:23Speaker 1: ever smoked in my life, choking it down. It's pretty funny. Actually,
- 22:31Speaker 1: two sixth said, I just wanted to get a word
- 22:34Speaker 1: about a Seattle former, Seattle Prep tight end. His name
- 22:38Speaker 1: is Jack Velling. He went from Seattle Prep here high
- 22:41Speaker 1: school football and Pete Sound Out to Michigan State where
- 22:46Speaker 1: he played for the Spartans. And just this morning the update,
- 22:49Speaker 1: Jack Velling from Seattle Prep has signed an undrafted free
- 22:51Speaker 1: agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Congrats to him in
- 22:54Speaker 1: the Seattle prep football community that I know a little
- 22:57Speaker 1: bit of. Congrats to them, Jack belling to the Falcons
- 23:00Speaker 1: on an undrafted free agent deal.
- 23:02Speaker 3: This is from Williams four to two five. For where
- 23:06Speaker 3: they had to draft and the few number of picks
- 23:09Speaker 3: they had, I thought the Seahawks did a fantastic job.
- 23:13Speaker 4: I think a lot of people would agree with that.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Again, we'll see as they are as players. But yeah,
- 23:18Speaker 1: just the fact that they only had four picks they
- 23:20Speaker 1: turned into eight.
- 23:21Speaker 4: That's huge.
- 23:22Speaker 1: And even though this draft was supposed to be weaker,
- 23:25Speaker 1: they got some spots of some backup spots that they
- 23:28Speaker 1: didn't think they were going to add depth to with
- 23:29Speaker 1: only four picks. They did. They drafted for Let's be honest,
- 23:33Speaker 1: if you get in the back half of the draft,
- 23:34Speaker 1: you better play special teams. You're not making the team.
- 23:37Speaker 1: They drafted the first It was the first instance I've
- 23:40Speaker 1: ever had in my career that spans back to two
- 23:42Speaker 1: thousand and two in the NFL twenty four years ago,
- 23:45Speaker 1: drafting a gunner because he's a punt gunner. I mean
- 23:47Speaker 1: they they drafted Emmanuel Henderson Junior, the one hundred and
- 23:51Speaker 1: ninety ninth pick in round six, because he is a
- 23:54Speaker 1: gunner who runs twenty three miles an hour down the
- 23:56Speaker 1: sidelines tackling punt returners. He also returned punts and offs
- 24:00Speaker 1: for Kansas Fast dude. But yeah, we'd asked about the
- 24:05Speaker 1: Snyder and McDonald and they said, yeah, gunner. And same
- 24:10Speaker 1: with Andre Fuller, the seventh round pick, the first of
- 24:12Speaker 1: three seventh round picks from the cornerback from Toledo Andre Fuller,
- 24:16Speaker 1: the Snyder's yeah, he's playing special teams. If you don't
- 24:19Speaker 1: play special teams as a rookie, especially a later round draft,
- 24:22Speaker 1: you aren't going to make the team.
- 24:23Speaker 4: From the two six.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I love this draft, filled needs and got some some
- 24:28Speaker 3: real ballers. Bug Clark is going to be a problem
- 24:30Speaker 3: and we'll be starting sooner than later. We still have
- 24:32Speaker 3: a lot of picks next year, so moving one to
- 24:35Speaker 3: get a good Iowa guard. That's nothing. They are making
- 24:38Speaker 3: old linement in a lab over there in Iowa.
- 24:40Speaker 1: That's true. That is true. Keith, Keith, Did we get
- 24:43Speaker 1: a final PBJ tally for Hugh.
- 24:46Speaker 4: I would say anywhere between nine and ten.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I think it was. I think the number was set
- 24:52Speaker 1: at twelve. It might have been It might have been
- 24:54Speaker 1: close to twelve. It might have been close to Clay,
- 24:57Speaker 1: and we're counting mornings, evenings, afternoons. Yeah, hang, yeah, you
- 25:02Speaker 1: you mill. It is PBJS. So how it works is
- 25:04Speaker 1: the setup of the Seahawks draft room for the media
- 25:07Speaker 1: is actually the main defensive room on the second floor
- 25:09Speaker 1: of the team headquarters of Virginia Mason Athletics Center, and renting.
- 25:13Speaker 1: And right next to that is the main dining room,
- 25:16Speaker 1: this majestic place, I mean floor to ceiling windows looking
- 25:21Speaker 1: out on Lake Washington and a splendid I mean, first
- 25:25Speaker 1: class set up in there. And the food is the
- 25:28Speaker 1: players renowned the Seahawks for their food, and there the
- 25:32Speaker 1: whole setup in there is fantastic. And so this is
- 25:34Speaker 1: the three days of the year the media gets to
- 25:36Speaker 1: be there and they tend to go to work, and
- 25:39Speaker 1: there's some people I think will cover the draft just
- 25:41Speaker 1: to eat. I mean there's a lot of food in
- 25:45Speaker 1: the going on. Pbj's are in a constant flow. And yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 1: Humillon caught some of that for sure, and two six says,
- 25:53Speaker 1: why is it? Draft? Saturdays are the best weather days
- 25:55Speaker 1: in the Pacific Northway. Chris and I talked about the
- 25:57Speaker 1: top of the show. You are exactly right. If I
- 26:00Speaker 1: was a bride to be or a father of a
- 26:03Speaker 1: bride to be in the Pacific Northwest, I would schedule
- 26:06Speaker 1: the wedding to be the final day of the draft
- 26:09Speaker 1: each year. It is uncanny how the best day of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the spring. We're talking clear, crystal clear blue skies. Boats
- 26:16Speaker 1: out on Lake Washington, sixty seventy degrees, always, always, always
- 26:21Speaker 1: on the side. I cannot remember the Saturday of the
- 26:23Speaker 1: draft being there from eight am to seven pm like
- 26:26Speaker 1: I was on Saturday, and not it being that nice outside.
- 26:30Speaker 1: I can't remember it just rained or something on the
- 26:33Speaker 1: day I am considered.
- 26:33Speaker 3: That's how you know, it's probably been a few probably
- 26:36Speaker 3: a few years since we've had rain or clouds, because
- 26:38Speaker 3: remember last year, I believe it was also very nice out, yes,
- 26:41Speaker 3: clear sky, and.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Now it used to be a week or two later.
- 26:44Speaker 1: There was a time to day the draft third, the
- 26:47Speaker 1: Saturday coincided with Kentucky Derby Saturday win the Mere Cup. Saturday,
- 26:50Speaker 1: the opening of the boating season here in Seattle, used
- 26:52Speaker 1: to be the first Saturday in May, which would lend
- 26:55Speaker 1: itself to warmer weather and nicer weather. But yeah, for
- 26:58Speaker 1: all you fathers out there who have brides to be daughters,
- 27:01Speaker 1: scheduled that wedding the last day of the Seahawks Draft
- 27:05Speaker 1: the Saturday of draft weekend, and you're guaranteed to get
- 27:08Speaker 1: the most beautiful day yet in the spring in the
- 27:12Speaker 1: Pacific North. It's just uncanny, it is. I spent eleven
- 27:14Speaker 1: hours in a building looking out the windows, wishing I
- 27:16Speaker 1: was outside because of how nice it is. It's really nice. Yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 1: that's funny that people pick up on that, because it's
- 27:22Speaker 1: not just me to think that.
- 27:24Speaker 3: From the two oh six, Hi, guys excited, we drafted
- 27:27Speaker 3: an offensive line to replace Anthony Bradford. How do you
- 27:31Speaker 3: guys feel about his chances to win the job from Bradford?
- 27:33Speaker 3: I will say this, if I'm not mistaken. They brought
- 27:36Speaker 3: in guard the last two seasons.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Christian names. They moved Timmy from center to guard and
- 27:42Speaker 1: that didn't work. Yeah, they've I guess they've tried to
- 27:44Speaker 1: do it and it hasn't worked. So they're zero for
- 27:46Speaker 1: two in that regard. So maybe this year it works.
- 27:48Speaker 3: But Anthony's proven to be the starter and my madonnd
- 27:51Speaker 3: alluded to that with when he was almost Softy and
- 27:53Speaker 3: Fang a few weeks back. He's excited to see the
- 27:56Speaker 3: improvement and then they bring in another guy and bo
- 27:59Speaker 3: can he put Anthony Braffort even more? Can he even
- 28:01Speaker 3: get that starting job? And not to mention, if Anthony
- 28:04Speaker 3: has a average year, he might hit the market and
- 28:06Speaker 3: make a lot of money.
- 28:09Speaker 1: If he had a Pro.
- 28:09Speaker 3: Bowl year, maybe John Snarer says, you know, I'll pay
- 28:11Speaker 3: the guy. So there, we'll see what happens. But I
- 28:14Speaker 3: think it's a smart move to draft the guard just
- 28:15Speaker 3: because Anthony Bradford's contract is about to end.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Chris waking up the populace with the Pro Bowl year
- 28:20Speaker 1: for Anthony Bradford on deck.
- 28:22Speaker 4: You never know, all right, We'll see, just to let
- 28:24Speaker 4: you know both.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Stevens was an All American at Iowa, playing left guard
- 28:28Speaker 1: the last two years he was the left guard for
- 28:30Speaker 1: Iowa and Kirk Farenci's system that is NFL plug and
- 28:32Speaker 1: play offensive lineman for decades. It's Kirk France is the
- 28:35Speaker 1: head coach. There forever we succeed in. Hayden Fry used
- 28:39Speaker 1: to be an offensive line coach for Hayden Fry at Iowa,
- 28:41Speaker 1: and he just molds offensive lineman, turns him out like
- 28:45Speaker 1: hey out there and wheat in the farms of Iowa
- 28:48Speaker 1: and Iowa City. So he played the last two years
- 28:52Speaker 1: of starting left guard, bod that Stevens did. The year
- 28:55Speaker 1: before that as a sophomore at Iowa, he was the
- 28:57Speaker 1: starting right guard. So of course after the draft, we
- 29:00Speaker 1: asked Mike McDonald, which side is bo Stevens going to
- 29:03Speaker 1: start here in Seattle? Begin playing I should say, not
- 29:06Speaker 1: start as and start, but begin his career playing. And
- 29:09Speaker 1: he didn't answer that he knew if he answered, if
- 29:13Speaker 1: he said, what's going to happen, which is right guard?
- 29:15Speaker 1: That Anthony Bradford, will you put on notice? Before the
- 29:18Speaker 1: kid even showed up to the first time in the building.
- 29:20Speaker 1: They're not putting him at left guard. They did not
- 29:23Speaker 1: trade one of their twelve picks in a stronger draft
- 29:25Speaker 1: next year, a fourth round pick relatively high in the
- 29:28Speaker 1: middle of the draft for a guy they're going to
- 29:30Speaker 1: stick behind Gray's Abel, Who's gonna be here for as
- 29:34Speaker 1: long as anyone can see. He's a first round pick
- 29:36Speaker 1: with three years left on his contract, a Day one starter,
- 29:38Speaker 1: a stud as a rookie left guard. They have a
- 29:41Speaker 1: fifty year option on him. They're probably going to resign
- 29:43Speaker 1: him based on how he played this past year and
- 29:45Speaker 1: how he just was, I mean a revelation. He was
- 29:48Speaker 1: a fantastic even better than I think they thought he
- 29:51Speaker 1: was going to be. But yeah, they're gonna play Bo
- 29:55Speaker 1: Stevens at right guard. We'll see how he competes with
- 29:57Speaker 1: Anthony bradd Thanks for your text. Every day we do
- 30:00Speaker 1: that at eleven thirty, is your chance to be a
- 30:03Speaker 1: part of the show at four nine, four to five
- 30:04Speaker 1: one at Tacoma Dodge Text and also a part of
- 30:06Speaker 1: the show and a part of your daily life from
- 30:08Speaker 1: twelve to three. Here on ninety three point three KJRFM
- 30:10Speaker 1: is Ian for Ness and the mayor of Maple Valley
- 30:13Speaker 1: joins us. Next on ninety three point three KJRFM, Welcome
- 30:21Speaker 1: back Greg Bell, Christopher Kidd and now Ian for Nets
- 30:24Speaker 1: joining us. It's good news reporting that the YouTube channel
- 30:29Speaker 1: is back up. Okay, you can watch us live, which means, Hugh,
- 30:32Speaker 1: I mean Ian is going to have three hours of
- 30:34Speaker 1: people watching him now. Nobody wants that.
- 30:37Speaker 6: Nobody wants that.
- 30:39Speaker 1: So yes, the YouTube channel is back up.
- 30:41Speaker 6: Okay.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Draft weekend. I get to see Ian a few times
- 30:45Speaker 1: out at the Seahawks. I thought it was very turnkey.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Lost a running back, draft of running back for yeah,
- 30:51Speaker 1: lost of safety, draft to save lost this corner draft
- 30:54Speaker 1: a corner, I.
- 30:56Speaker 6: Would agree, I would it was. It was an interesting
- 31:01Speaker 6: It was an interesting weekend for sure, only in the
- 31:05Speaker 6: sense that the first two days were really chalky. Then
- 31:09Speaker 6: the third day, which we thought wasn't going to be eventful,
- 31:12Speaker 6: ended up being very eventful and That's probably what you
- 31:15Speaker 6: would expect from a John Schneider draft. Don't try to
- 31:19Speaker 6: don't try to predict what he's going to do, right,
- 31:21Speaker 6: because he does these eggs when usag, and he's eggs
- 31:24Speaker 6: when usig.
- 31:24Speaker 1: That's what he does.
- 31:25Speaker 6: And in the end they feel the needs that they
- 31:27Speaker 6: needed to fill except for the edge rusher depth probably
- 31:31Speaker 6: makes you feel like Fowler is going to happen, right.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Yeah, we talked about Dante Fowler. That if you missed
- 31:35Speaker 1: that the veteran did visit the Seahawks last week on
- 31:39Speaker 1: that out over the weekend and now today, anybody signed
- 31:44Speaker 1: the veteran free agent does not count against the compic
- 31:46Speaker 1: formula for.
- 31:47Speaker 6: Right, right, So I would assume that that's I would
- 31:49Speaker 6: assume that that's when it's all said and done that
- 31:52Speaker 6: that just kind of feels like like that was a
- 31:56Speaker 6: direction without even you know, going down that road in
- 31:59Speaker 6: the seventh round, I would think that that would be
- 32:01Speaker 6: the case. But yeah, I I mean, you certainly lose,
- 32:07Speaker 6: you lose ken Walker. You have to replace that position.
- 32:09Speaker 6: I mean you can, we can, even without even without
- 32:13Speaker 6: the ACL injury to Charbonnet, you needed to replace that position.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yeah, they have none of their seven backs under contract
- 32:20Speaker 1: beyond this year.
- 32:21Speaker 6: No w and like like it doesn't take a lot,
- 32:24Speaker 6: like the eye test tells you right, like Walker was
- 32:28Speaker 6: at a different level than those other guys, you would
- 32:30Speaker 6: expect Price to be a different level than those other guys.
- 32:33Speaker 6: So I like that pick. They got some dbs with
- 32:36Speaker 6: some swagger. They got an offensive lineman to compete with
- 32:43Speaker 6: maybe Bradford at right guard and certainly provide depth at
- 32:46Speaker 6: the guard position because Christian Haines has never been able
- 32:48Speaker 6: to give you that at all. I think that's an
- 32:50Speaker 6: interesting dynamic in this whole thing, right, I mean, Christian
- 32:52Speaker 6: Haines was a third round pick and he has been
- 32:54Speaker 6: given ample opportunity and has never been able to take
- 32:57Speaker 6: advantage of it. So they got to go back down
- 32:59Speaker 6: the road and make a trade to get back into
- 33:01Speaker 6: that in that situation. But yeah, good, good feels like
- 33:05Speaker 6: it feels like they accomplish what they needed to accomplish.
- 33:07Speaker 6: And if we're being honest with Greg, you probably agree
- 33:09Speaker 6: that when you're the Super Bowl champions, you don't need
- 33:12Speaker 6: to do a lot no all right.
- 33:14Speaker 1: With twenty one of twenty two starters off that team,
- 33:16Speaker 1: turning Aiden Hubbard the edge from Northwestern, is reported to
- 33:20Speaker 1: be one of six undrafted rookie free agents signed to
- 33:24Speaker 1: the Seahawks. To me, that is the most interesting guy
- 33:27Speaker 1: in that camp this weekends, at least under the undrafted
- 33:31Speaker 1: guys and the rookie free agent guys. They have eight
- 33:34Speaker 1: spots to fill. Six apparently have been signed, and one
- 33:37Speaker 1: of them is Aiden Hubbard. He's an edge from Northwestern,
- 33:39Speaker 1: played very well in the Big Ten. Some people thought
- 33:41Speaker 1: he was gonna get drafted. You just said that. We
- 33:46Speaker 1: talk about all weekend. There are spots to be had
- 33:48Speaker 1: at edge rusher, and not just now but for the
- 33:51Speaker 1: future as well. Derek Hall is going into the final
- 33:53Speaker 1: year of his contract. It surprised me they didn't do Edge.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I thought maybe they I had a mock to get
- 33:59Speaker 1: Mount Kay Laurren first, but then he went, not even
- 34:02Speaker 1: barely halfway through the first round, Yeah, to Dallas, So
- 34:05Speaker 1: I believe it was Dallas on the top of my head.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So yes, and they Mike McDonald said, yep, this is
- 34:11Speaker 1: part of the process. And now the process goes into
- 34:13Speaker 1: veteran free agents and they just had Dante Fowler come in.
- 34:16Speaker 1: So somebody asked him the text on what my favorite
- 34:19Speaker 1: backstory of the weekend is mine is Jadarian Price and
- 34:22Speaker 1: his mom beating cancer and what the inspiration she is
- 34:25Speaker 1: and he was openly talking about that. But there are
- 34:27Speaker 1: all kinds of things you mentioned, how brash the defensive back.
- 34:30Speaker 6: The DBS are just it was was fun to listen to.
- 34:32Speaker 6: I mean, obviously julian Neal was the top of the list,
- 34:35Speaker 6: but we had Bud Clark, you know, Bud Clark was
- 34:37Speaker 6: dropped in the second round, and when we heard from him,
- 34:38Speaker 6: he was he had a little swag too. It's just
- 34:40Speaker 6: shorter like shorter answers, but wasn't as as demonstrative, say
- 34:44Speaker 6: as julian Neal.
- 34:45Speaker 1: But he invoked Cam Chancellor.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Yeah not then, which is weird because he's not built
- 34:49Speaker 6: like Cam Chancellor at all, not even close. But uh
- 34:53Speaker 6: And also I think you pointed this out on your show.
- 34:55Speaker 6: I think it's interesting, like it's been a long time
- 34:58Speaker 6: since those dudes were here, Like it's it's over a
- 35:01Speaker 6: decade since Cam and and that group was patrolling the
- 35:05Speaker 6: secondary and so forth, So those guys would have been
- 35:08Speaker 6: like not even.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Teenagers maybe in some cases, right.
- 35:11Speaker 6: So pretty good awareness of of of the league, but
- 35:14Speaker 6: also kind of shows probably how impactful that defense really was, right,
- 35:19Speaker 6: But yeah, I like Neil, you know you mentioned uh
- 35:23Speaker 6: you know Jidari and Price and his his backstory. We
- 35:26Speaker 6: you and I late on Friday, had a chance to
- 35:28Speaker 6: talk to him, and we'll replay that at two o'clock
- 35:30Speaker 6: today because it was and we went down that road
- 35:32Speaker 6: of you know, your mom and raising helping raise your daughter,
- 35:35Speaker 6: your sisters, the whole nine yards. He's an oppressive young man,
- 35:38Speaker 6: I really is. So we'll see if he can run.
- 35:40Speaker 6: But I mean, I like the They kept using that
- 35:45Speaker 6: term loyalty as well all weekend.
- 35:47Speaker 1: That was something that jumped. But Clark stayed all six
- 35:49Speaker 1: years at TCU. We just talked to his position coach
- 35:52Speaker 1: Jus Brown down there in Fort Worth, and he said
- 35:54Speaker 1: all kinds of schools came after him. I bet yeah,
- 35:57Speaker 1: he stayed. And he also could have gone to the
- 35:59Speaker 1: NFL last year and was projected to be a mid
- 36:01Speaker 1: round pick as would have been a fifth year senior,
- 36:03Speaker 1: being a six year senior. And he also said, just
- 36:06Speaker 1: Brown that of all the dude like half a USC's
- 36:09Speaker 1: roster opted out of the bowl game the tc you
- 36:11Speaker 1: played against him, and Bud Clark played every down of
- 36:14Speaker 1: the game. Wow, second round picks I'm playing. I think that.
- 36:19Speaker 6: I think that times, you know, I people will downplay it.
- 36:22Speaker 6: I do wonder if that does help a little bit.
- 36:24Speaker 6: I'll give you an example. Kyle Williams last year for
- 36:27Speaker 6: Wazuo in you know, when they was getting drafted. Christian
- 36:32Speaker 6: Member was the third round. I think Kyle Williams second.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Third round? What was he? I think it was third third.
- 36:38Speaker 6: Kyle Williams played in the bowl game two years ago
- 36:41Speaker 6: for Wazoo. Didn't need to and you know by then
- 36:45Speaker 6: the quarterback had left gone to Oklahoma my tier and
- 36:48Speaker 6: that dude played put up big numbers. But I don't
- 36:51Speaker 6: think that's why he got picked.
- 36:52Speaker 1: In the third.
- 36:53Speaker 6: I think it's just the competitive factor what he was
- 36:55Speaker 6: talking about, and that's we hear that with Bud Clark.
- 36:57Speaker 6: It's the same thing, like, yeah, I'm playing, let's go.
- 36:59Speaker 1: I think Jora Coleman. Did he play in the Bowl
- 37:01Speaker 1: game for Washington Washington this year? I think he did?
- 37:03Speaker 6: Yeah, good for him, right, I mean I think there's
- 37:05Speaker 6: a you know, you talk about guys that could have
- 37:08Speaker 6: left though, I mean, price, my god, you're playing behind
- 37:10Speaker 6: a guy that's third overall pick. That's that's why, that's
- 37:13Speaker 6: why the portal was was invented.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Yes, for a guy like that, and he said, I
- 37:18Speaker 1: wanted to challenge of playing behind and with right running
- 37:21Speaker 1: back in the country.
- 37:22Speaker 6: And julian Neal did transfer. He was the first of
- 37:25Speaker 6: their guys that did. I mean both Stevens I don't
- 37:27Speaker 6: think did and they said, I, well, four years, but
- 37:29Speaker 6: julian Neil did transfer. But his transfer story is remarkable.
- 37:33Speaker 6: I mean, goes as a wide receiver to Fresno State
- 37:35Speaker 6: with Kayle and Kaylen obviously leaves, goes to Washington. He
- 37:39Speaker 6: almost goes to Stanford, which just tells you everything you
- 37:42Speaker 6: need to know about the.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Kid s iiters said he actually enrolled briefly and left.
- 37:45Speaker 6: But yes, and and if you're and Sanford doesn't like transfers,
- 37:49Speaker 6: and they also don't enroll anybody. No, so that tells
- 37:51Speaker 6: you all you need about julian Neil ends up going
- 37:53Speaker 6: to Arkansas and uh and has a hell of a
- 37:56Speaker 6: hell of a run there. So yeah, you know, you
- 37:58Speaker 6: got to be excited what they did.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Again.
- 37:59Speaker 6: The best thing that will exciting thing is they need
- 38:01Speaker 6: to do a lot. Yes, right, that's that's Uh. They
- 38:04Speaker 6: didn't need to do a ton of that regard.
- 38:05Speaker 1: So have you ever heard of anyone drafted a gunner,
- 38:07Speaker 1: because that's what they did in the sixth round Henderson.
- 38:10Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the reasons we're gonna talk to you about that.
- 38:14Speaker 6: I guess his return skills are pretty elite too.
- 38:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so we'll we'll see.
- 38:19Speaker 6: Yeah for a second, except for the gunner part of
- 38:22Speaker 6: it and tackling it sound a little bit like Tyler Lockett,
- 38:26Speaker 6: But Tyler Lockett wasn't a gunneruld have broken.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Half and they young signed with the Raiders, So there
- 38:33Speaker 1: is a need at gunnery.
- 38:35Speaker 6: Well, I think you get looking for some depth to
- 38:36Speaker 6: at the at for returns too. I mean, you got
- 38:39Speaker 6: Rashichi Head and you certainly have you know, hopefully Tory
- 38:42Speaker 6: Horton's finally healthy.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You get those two guys.
- 38:44Speaker 6: Those are also two dudes that you're going to be
- 38:46Speaker 6: relying on a lot too, So you need some depth
- 38:48Speaker 6: at that position. We saw that last year. We saw
- 38:50Speaker 6: that happen last year with some guys getting dinged up,
- 38:53Speaker 6: and you need a guy that And it's weird how
- 38:55Speaker 6: a return guy can change the entire outcome of a
- 38:57Speaker 6: game or season.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Or season, right is it Molly wat Monday, Mallawa Monday.
- 39:02Speaker 6: We'll do that in the one o'clock hour, Will Molly
- 39:04Speaker 6: wop with those dudes at one twenty today Hugh Millen
- 39:07Speaker 6: Hardcore Football Draft Edition coming up at twelve twenty And
- 39:10Speaker 6: as I mentioned, Jadarian Price had a chance to catch
- 39:13Speaker 6: up with him late on Friday, you and I did,
- 39:14Speaker 6: and just a delightful interview. And you might be a
- 39:18Speaker 6: fan of him just watching him run and the highlights
- 39:20Speaker 6: and all that fun stuff. You'll be even more of
- 39:22Speaker 6: a fan when you hear from him.
- 39:23Speaker 1: That's great. Yeah, we'll listen to that again. That's Yah
- 39:24Speaker 1: twelve to three and Fornas, Anderson Hurst, Jessman McIntyre, Greg Bell,
- 39:29Speaker 1: the News Tribute, Christopher Kidd, thank you for listening. We'll
- 39:31Speaker 1: do it again tomorrow ten to noon. He ends up
- 39:33Speaker 1: next on ninety three point three k JRFM.
