- 0:45SPEAKER_00: And with that, let's get into the show.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: Hello everyone, and welcome back to the Live Well podcast.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I am so excited to bring you another mini soda.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: We're talking all about metabolism, kind of like under eating, what happens, how to fire up your metabolism, and everything like that.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: I love this mini soda, especially for coming into the summer, because there are so many women who are restricting undereating, especially with, you know, I'm gonna go pressure or pressure they put on themselves when it comes to the summertime.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: So this is, you know, a great little tidbit that we are going to share.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So with your metabolism, it is very important to understand that your metabolism is fluid, okay?
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: So your metabolism can go up, it can go down, and luckily we can control it.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: So the number one thing I want you to understand is that like you can control your metabolism and you can make it more efficient by you know eating a certain way, certain types of foods, and avoiding other types of foods.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: And if you haven't listened to my All Calories Are Created Equal podcast, I would go back and listen to that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: It's one of my first months.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: I want to say it's episode 15 or around episode 15, but you can definitely speed up the fat burning process and not have to undereat.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So the problem with under eating or eating like 1200 calories a day is that it tanks your metabolism, it ruins your gut health, it tanks your libido, so your libido goes in the toilet, your mood is off because you're hangry and irritable, your brain is foggy, your cortisol spikes, your inflammation spikes, and let's be honest, your relationships suffer because you're bloated, you're PMSing, you're irritable, hangry, and you're tired and you can't think straight.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: So maybe also your job suffers too, right?
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Because your brain is foggy.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: So what happens when you eat 1200 calories is your body goes into a state of survival because that is not enough for an adult female.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Now, everyone does need a different amount of calories, but even if you are a five foot one sedentary female, meaning like you sit most of the day, maybe an office job, um, movement isn't something that's part of your regular practice normally, so you're very sedentary, you still need more than that.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Okay, so that's very important to understand.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: And even better, if you are like me and love food, you can upregulate your metabolism to eat, you know, 2200, 2500 calories a day and still burn fat for fuel, still be lean, still feel good in your body, and have a great gut hormones, mood, brain, and everything like that.
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: So when you're shocking your body into fight or flight, especially if you've been eating 1200, 1300 calories for a while, and honestly, I've had clients who have come to me on like 900 or 1000 calories a day, which is shocking.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: I actually had a client who also had a competition, like her friends had a competition about who could eat the least in a day, anyways, whatever.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: Is that it shuts it down, right?
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Because you're no longer putting fuel in the fire, and your body thinks, oh, Liv isn't giving me enough food.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I'm definitely not gonna let go of the weight I have on right now because I don't know I'm gonna get food again, right?
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And so then when your cortisol goes up because your body's under stress, because you're not eating enough, and then your inflammation spikes, and then it's not gonna let go of weight because we said it's unsafe, and then that leaves you frustrated, making you want to restrict even more.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And then I get all the DMs about I'm eating 1200 calories, I'm not losing weight.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, yeah, because it's not enough food.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: So, what you need to understand is that you actually need to eat enough food for your metabolism to be rampant, fiery, whatever you want to say.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Next, you need to have enough healthy fats.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: You know, you need to have nuts, seeds, avocado, coconut oil.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Fats help you burn fat.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: You also need to get enough fiber.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Okay, most people get around like under 15 grams, like when they measure it on average in the nation.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: You need a lot more fiber than that.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: You need like double.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: So, if you're not getting enough fiber, that's also going to affect your metabolism.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: So, you need to understand that if you are in a history of not eating enough, you're feeling restricted, you're not feeling full, I don't know, you're eating chicken with salad and no dressing, whatever it is, your metabolism is going to freak out.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And then chances are you're restricting so much, but maybe you also, I'm gonna say like cheat, quote unquote, or binge or overeat on the weekends, right?
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Or whenever that time is, or maybe it's 7 p.m.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: when you come home at night and you've been eating healthy, quote unquote, all day long or all week long, and then either the weekend hits or the 7 p.m.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: hits, and you want to inhale everything, and you want to inhale everything because your blood sugar is not balanced, because you're not eating enough, and that's going to then take your metabolism, and then when your metabolism actually gets food, it's like, oh my god, let's give me food finally.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: All that food you eat, it's going to store it as fat.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Okay, very important to understand.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: So, when it comes to metabolism and under-eating, you need to make sure you're eating enough.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: If you need help with this, get into healthier you.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: It teaches you how to eat, it teaches you honestly like the foundations you need to know so that your metabolism can run like fire and you do not have to overthink it, you do not have to worry.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: This is just like a way of life.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: I can't tell you how many hundreds and hundreds of people have been through this, and once they apply this, it just becomes so much less stressed because then you have to worry about you know how much you're eating or tracking calories or not eating enough.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: You get to actually enjoy food in a way that's nourishing and also allows you to feel good in your body, yeah.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: And it's also important to know that not all calories, like I said, are created equal.
- 6:39SPEAKER_00: So definitely go back and listen to that episode because certain calories burn fat and certain calories store fat.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So anything that raises insulin stores fat.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: If you're looking to like ramp up your metabolism, you really want to not only lower the sugars, but lower anything that spikes insulin.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: So the two things that don't spike insulin are fat and protein.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: However, most people, when they're doing like the 1200, 1300 calorie or even less, then they're they're scared of fats, right?
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Do not be scared of fats.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Fats help you burn fat.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: They've actually done studies, and those people who ate higher fat compared to like higher carb burn 300 calories more a day.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Just by the composition of the calories that they're eating, right?
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: And this is not like you're supposed to be focusing on calories or looking at all.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: This is just about understanding physiologically how to support your body in a way that's nourishing for your gut and nourishing for your hormones, that it just becomes an easy way of life and you don't have to overthink it, and then you aren't trapped in the thinking that I don't know the truffle fries you want to eat in the weekend are gonna make or break you, or the margarita is going to make or break you, or your hello everyone.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: I just wanted to quickly hop on here and let you guys know that if you have not heard of Healthier You yet, it is now open and I have added a new masterclass to it, which is the Break the Cycle Emotional Eating Masterclass.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: So Healthier U is literally the foundational program.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: It is my ride or die, it is how I live my life to feel my best in my body, to heal from hormones to heal, from undereating to heal, from feeling restricted and just not feeling delicious and nourished when I eat.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: This includes how to cut sugar, the formula when I'm like eating makes it super simple.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Tells you how to go out and eat truffle fries and still feel amazing in your body, still heal your hormones and still feel great.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: So if you have not checked that out, I'm gonna leave the link for that down below because this foundation is honestly so easy.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: It's for those of you who might scroll through, you know, all of the vibey health and wellness content on Instagram and TikTok, wondering how to be, you know, quote unquote fat girl.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: This is like saving you the tidbits of advice, trying to figure it out how to piece it all together and just puts it all together for you in a really easy, digestible way.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Plus, I do have something special coming next month for you guys who are gonna be in it, which is going to be completely free.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, so if you're in it, you're gonna get access to that.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: So if you feel like it is a full-body guess to understand how you can really take care of yourself, make healthy eating a lifestyle, balance all your hormones in a way that is like cookies and delicious and nourishing and satisfying, we break it down inside.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Um, and I will leave the link for that down below.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And with that, let's get back into the episode.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: You want to, you know, indulge in the weekends, you want to have all this yummy food, but then you restrict all week in order to have that, right?
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: That is going to be so much worse for your body and metabolism than if you were to just eat well all the time and then have that as a sprinkle in.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: And I'm also gonna note the less you do that, the less you desire sugar, right?
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Because the more you desire sugar is because you're hooked on sugar cravings.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: So, as a reminder, the 1200 under eating tanks your metabolism, messes up your gut.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: When you mess up your gut, right, then you're bloated because your stomach doesn't have enough enzymes to digest the food.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Because when you've been undereating, it's like, oh, okay, we don't need to make all these enzymes because Lib isn't using these enzymes.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: Your body is smart, it's gonna downregulate those enzymes because it's not gonna put energy towards things that's not useful to it.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna downregulate those enzymes.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: Then we get bloating, kind of constipation, or maybe diarrhea, depending on which spectrum you're on, digestive issues, but especially bloating, because you're not having enough enzymes then, right?
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: So then you're not even gonna feel well because even with all your restricting, you are now bloated, and then you're not eating enough, so then you don't have the building blocks to make hormones, right?
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: So then not only are you irritable and hangry, but you're probably having some sort of PMS, right?
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: So you're irritable, maybe you've got cramps, maybe you've got brain fog, maybe you've got whatever.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: In general, you have PMS symptoms, right?
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: Because your hormones are off.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: That's not what we want.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: And when your hormones are off, one of the hormones that go off are your libido, right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: So this just makes one whole big web because you're also off on your mood, because not only are your hormones down regulated because you're not eating enough, but also we've all had those hangry moments, you know.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: This we've all had those moments where you know you're not you're irritable because you know you just need like a snack, you know you need food.
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: If you're constantly like that, that is going to impact your life in a major way, right?
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: And so what you actually want to do is you actually want to nourish your body in a way that allows it to thrive, and that's what we're gonna be going over in healthier you.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: I did also want to add in this is something new that I'm doing for this month.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know if I'll do it again, but everyone who's in healthier you, like if you just in it, it's only like right now it's in pre-sale, so it's it's like$300 and something dollars.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: Um, I think it's going up to like four or four, four after.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Either way, it's just like the value that's in there.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: We talk about how to eat to support your metabolism, to support your gut, to support your hormones.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: We talk about emotional eating, we talk about you know your gut, we talk about what to do if you're gonna go out and have a drink, like specifically the exact steps that all my clients use so that the alcohol does not affect their body, so that they feel great the next day.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Because how many times do you like maybe save your calories for the weekend and then go out and have too many margaritas and then you feel shitty the next day?
- 12:19SPEAKER_00: So then you order like a McDonald's or whatever it is, right?
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: And then it becomes this vicious cycle because then you feel guilt and shame about McDonald's, and then we go back to restricting, and then it's just no, we we kind of nip that in the bud.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Um, and like I said, there is going to be a new live call for this round where you can come and ask me any personal questions.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: So, like, come to me, um, those of you who are gonna be inside and just be like, Liv, I'm struggling with XYZ.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: What do I do?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: And I will bam bam bam and I'll help you out because this is my bread and butter.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: This is something I have been doing for like years and years and years now.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: I can easily help you quickly on a call, probably because I've said it and helped so many people with it before.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: So come and get my help in a really quick and easy way that's going to save you so much time and so much frustration as well.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: So I'm just nothing.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Anything else that I wanted to say about metabolism and under-eating?
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, the cortisol.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: That's one last thing I'll add in is the cortisol, right?
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Because when your body's under stress, then your cortisol goes up.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: And cortisol, like we all say, like stress causes weight gain.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: And that's because when your body is stressed, it's gonna hold not only onto it, but it's gonna allow it to gain it more because it's a safety mechanism, right?
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: It's a safety mechanism between you and the outside world to protect it, but it's also going to increase inflammation.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And there are so many conditions that are tied to inflammation, including like PCOS, IBS, all of these things.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: So if cortisol spikes, then inflammation spikes, and then any inflammatory conditions are more likely, or they will be flared if that's something that you already struggle with, right?
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: So you really need to be like managing all of these things and really understand that like insulin is a driver here, right?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: Because when we think about let's think about fats, right?
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: When you maybe have more fat, that actually makes you overeat even more because it is not an inert fat, meaning it's a hungry fat.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: And it leads to this cascade where those cells suck up all available fuel from your bloodstream.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: It sucks up the glucose, the fats, the ketones, and then your body thinks, and this is what happens when you spiked insulin too much, it thinks, oh my god, I'm starving.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: I better eat more and slow my metabolism so that I don't die.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: And the problem is that anything you eat then gets sucked up into those cells, leading to a vicious cycle of hunger, poor blood sugar balance, overeating, fat storage, slowing down your metabolism, and then you get frustrated because either you're gaining weight or can't lose it.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: So the key trigger for all of this is like that simple, common hormone that we all need, but not too much of is that insulin.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: If you make too much insulin, it drives the fuel in our blood into our fat cells.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: Too much insulin, also well, there's a lot of bad other things, right?
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: You know, heart attack, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, cancer, dementia, PCOS, blah blah blah.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: But when it comes to causing spikes of insulin, not all calories are created equally.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: It's very important for like, especially as women, to understand this because I remember being frustrated and I remember, you know, being really not knowing what to eat, being feeling like I had to restrict and now I eat more than I ever did.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: And let me tell you, I'm not like a million pounds, right?
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: Obviously, like I'm healthy and everything like that.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: We're not looking to be underweight or anything, but just eat more calories, weigh less, depending on the calories that you eat.
- 15:53SPEAKER_00: It's very important, and so that's why I wanted to make healthier you.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't think I've ever even talked about it in the podcast, but it's honestly there's hours and hours of videos in there.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: It's so good.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: It's not about it's not about controlling, it's not about counting anything, it's about the quality and making it nourishing in a way that supports your hormones so that you don't feel like your hormones are making you run to the cupboard and inhale a box of chips ahoy.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: And I I get that out-of-control feeling, and it sucks, right?
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: So just remember that restricting slows your metabolism, makes you 100 degree, and wrecks your insulin.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Okay, blood sugar balance is the way to go.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: And just know that like there is nothing to blame yourself for, right?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: This is not a lack of willpower, this is just your hormones are off and your body is off because you're not giving it enough food.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: And it's a simple, it's a simple fix.
- 16:45SPEAKER_00: Even though it doesn't feel simple, I promise you it can be simple, and then you don't need to like worry.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: You can go out and like, guys, I go out, I eat my shuffle fries, I went out for sushi this weekend, you know.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: You need to understand this because otherwise it's going to throw everything else off, okay?
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Alright, guys, that was my little mini soda for today.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: I will see those of you on the Healthier You call this month.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: Um, if you're listening to this later, you can still hop in and then ask me any questions after you watch it.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I'll leave the link to Healthier You down below.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: Or if you're looking for some one on one support, definitely reach out about that because we can see what we can do about that.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: Alright, guys, I will see you in the next episode.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: Bye.
