- 0:07Speaker 1: Week.
- 0:07Speaker 2: The heart of the NFL season is upon us this Sunday.
- 0:09Speaker 2: The Steeters have got a huge game coming up against
- 0:11Speaker 2: the Jags Orchestra Stadium. This is the Irish Steters Podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Welcome in to the hub of the Steels in Ireland.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Michael Lookut, Jimmy English, Dave McKee, Jimmy big game this weekend. Man,
- 0:23Speaker 2: are you doing any good?
- 0:24Speaker 1: I'm fantastic, Michael. Yeah, it's always a pleasure talking to
- 0:27Speaker 1: you boys once a week, never mind twice a week.
- 0:30Speaker 1: So we have a nice little bonus episode here, so
- 0:32Speaker 1: great to great to see you and hear you do.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Have a matchup which we'll talk about in the bit
- 0:38Speaker 2: between the two NFL Global Markets teams. It's a big,
- 0:41Speaker 2: big one this week in the month.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Master if it's the Dublin Derby, if you like, can't wait,
- 0:47Speaker 3: you know it's it's it's a game as well, close
- 0:49Speaker 3: to my close to my heart because the Jags sort
- 0:52Speaker 3: of used to be my second team if you like
- 0:53Speaker 3: it was a Travor Lawrence. I'm a massive farm but
- 0:55Speaker 3: Steelers all the way and then hopefully we can get
- 0:58Speaker 3: the win and.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We'll probably that game in a week in a way
- 1:01Speaker 2: minutes We've obviously got a huge game coming up, and
- 1:04Speaker 2: we've got three home games over the next few weeks
- 1:07Speaker 2: and then the next away game is this massive meet
- 1:09Speaker 2: up in Dublin. First off, we're gonna welcome a guy
- 1:12Speaker 2: that you will know folks if you're an NFL final
- 1:15Speaker 2: in Ireland, and if you don't, you're going to get
- 1:16Speaker 2: to know them on this podcast tag Leader from Leader
- 1:19Speaker 2: Kicking Academy. I feelink I talked to you at least
- 1:22Speaker 2: once a week at this point. How are you doing?
- 1:24Speaker 2: First time on the Irish Seeders podcast. Thank you for
- 1:26Speaker 2: coming on.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Sound nuts.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Yeah, no, all is about here, looking forward to chatting
- 1:32Speaker 4: about all things Steelers and Leader Kicking and what's happening
- 1:35Speaker 4: on the ground in Ireland. But no, look it's things
- 1:38Speaker 4: are flying at a minute, so life is good.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Tell us the crack tag for people that aren't aware
- 1:44Speaker 2: of what you know, sort of what you do? Can
- 1:45Speaker 2: you may be condensed downland? Tell us exactly what you
- 1:48Speaker 2: do and just sort of how the last few months
- 1:49Speaker 2: have been fit.
- 1:50Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, short short version is maybe just over a
- 1:54Speaker 4: year ago now we started Leader Kicking, where the concept
- 1:57Speaker 4: is is to take Irish act to lead particularly ga
- 2:01Speaker 4: rugby and soccer players who are naturally talented kickers of
- 2:04Speaker 4: the ball and take that skill set and transfer to
- 2:06Speaker 4: American football with the idea to get them scholarships full
- 2:10Speaker 4: scholarships a kickers and punters in America. So that was
- 2:12Speaker 4: the concept started last year. Things have been really successful.
- 2:17Speaker 4: First proper lads that are now playing Division one college football.
- 2:20Speaker 4: They're halfway through their season. One lad got placed in
- 2:24Speaker 4: the NFL Academy in the UK and in the last
- 2:28Speaker 4: couple of weeks now i'm AULTI doing work directly with
- 2:30Speaker 4: the NFL International Player Pathway Program trying to identify the
- 2:33Speaker 4: best kickers across the globe for next year's go hoorse
- 2:37Speaker 4: to go over for the twenty twenty four cycles. So yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 4: we've been busy. And that's a very brief version.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Of all of that.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Ty you mentioned there one of your one of your
- 2:50Speaker 1: protegs who got place in the NFL Academy, and that's
- 2:53Speaker 1: mister young Young Andy Quinn and he actually won the
- 2:57Speaker 1: Ireland's Kicking Kicking King title during the summer, which won
- 3:02Speaker 1: him the prize of a trip to Pittsburgh to taking
- 3:05Speaker 1: it a home game. Tell us about that experience.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah, they so interestingly with Andy, he's success gotten away
- 3:13Speaker 4: that trip a little bit because the Steelers were they
- 3:19Speaker 4: kind of asked us what game we'd like to go to,
- 3:21Speaker 4: you know, for the prize, and we chose the Ravens
- 3:23Speaker 4: game for obvious reasons, because, yeah, going against that, it
- 3:26Speaker 4: was a class class week to be there, huge, huge
- 3:29Speaker 4: game for the city and the organization.
- 3:31Speaker 1: So we went over there.
- 3:33Speaker 4: But for Andy, the NFL Academy was playing the game
- 3:36Speaker 4: on the Friday, and then Steelers game was Sunday, and
- 3:40Speaker 4: then they're playing again on the Tuesday at Tottenham host
- 3:42Speaker 4: For Stadium. So the plan was to fly him out
- 3:44Speaker 4: Friday morning, excuse me, Saturday morning, get in Saturday night,
- 3:49Speaker 4: watch the Steelers game Sunday, and then fly back to
- 3:51Speaker 4: play Tuesday in again in London. But at the near
- 3:55Speaker 4: at the twelfth hour, we decided that wasn't best for
- 3:57Speaker 4: his performance, so Andy didn't make the t with us,
- 4:00Speaker 4: so six or seven of us went across. But the
- 4:03Speaker 4: trip was amazing and thankfully for Andy he'll get another
- 4:06Speaker 4: shot at that and most importantly, he performed really well
- 4:09Speaker 4: with the NFL Academy, winning both both games on the
- 4:11Speaker 4: Friday and Tuesday, so Yeah, that's that's how that one
- 4:14Speaker 4: played out.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Obviously, speaking about that game in Pittsburgh, Tag, can you
- 4:20Speaker 3: just sort of tell us what the city was like.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Obviously with with Ravens, Wick had amaginary buzzing, but what
- 4:24Speaker 3: was it like actually being there?
- 4:27Speaker 1: Oh, it was class.
- 4:28Speaker 4: We probably a bit naive to what it what it
- 4:30Speaker 4: was going to be, just the scale of it, given
- 4:32Speaker 4: the rivalry side of things. So we got in on
- 4:36Speaker 4: the Thursday and Friday, pretty early on Friday that it
- 4:41Speaker 4: is not massive, so it was pretty condensed. They buzzed
- 4:44Speaker 4: around Steelers jerseys, hats, flags, scarfs, just everywhere it was.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It was class.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Was like an all ard and weekend kind of thing
- 4:52Speaker 4: where everyone's out in their county colors.
- 4:54Speaker 1: And that was obvious.
- 4:55Speaker 4: You know, from from Friday morning through to life throughout
- 4:58Speaker 4: Monday or flight back to New York was packed to
- 5:00Speaker 4: steedious people today after the game. But the buzz around
- 5:04Speaker 4: the place was it was just obvious. You could tell
- 5:07Speaker 4: the town loves it and like real proud of the team.
- 5:10Speaker 4: And then obviously we got to do you know, a
- 5:12Speaker 4: private tour and on the Saturday, and then it got
- 5:14Speaker 4: to be pitched side on Sunday and the city and
- 5:19Speaker 4: like the organization like actually seemed to kind of mirror
- 5:21Speaker 4: each other in terms of, like, you know, they talk
- 5:24Speaker 4: about like this kind of hard working identity and like
- 5:26Speaker 4: kind of the humbleness of the organ the city and
- 5:28Speaker 4: the people. And honestly, it was really cool that it
- 5:30Speaker 4: wasn't just words you know that you see on TV
- 5:33Speaker 4: or you hear people talk about. You could genuinely feel
- 5:35Speaker 4: it throughout the organization and the city after those kind
- 5:39Speaker 4: of forty eight hours. So now it was a very
- 5:41Speaker 4: memorable experience for everybody.
- 5:44Speaker 2: You mentioned meeting Don Don Rooney and I seen you
- 5:48Speaker 2: took over the theeters Isreland, the surrounding much is pretty cool.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I think it felt it brought a lot of us
- 5:52Speaker 2: closer to what we seem like. I've never had the
- 5:54Speaker 2: chance to get to go to Pittsburgh and hopefully please
- 5:56Speaker 2: all get to go soon, but definitely felt about closer.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Tag and what was that tour like in the in
- 6:01Speaker 2: the museum, because like you got your own private touris
- 6:04Speaker 2: seem I'm looked on real.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Yeah, we didn't know what to expect, to be honest
- 6:09Speaker 4: with you, in terms of how exactly we're going to
- 6:12Speaker 4: be treated like what we just see the likes of
- 6:14Speaker 4: Dan for ten minutes, say hey quick, how's it going,
- 6:17Speaker 4: how is the flight, and then you know kind of
- 6:18Speaker 4: see him again the next day or something like that.
- 6:21Speaker 4: But no, he greeted us at like nine am Saturday morning,
- 6:24Speaker 4: and we said goodbye to them at probably four pm
- 6:27Speaker 4: Saturday evening, and they spent the entire weekend for them,
- 6:30Speaker 4: busy time before use game, and they gave us their
- 6:32Speaker 4: entire Saturday. Dan actually narrated the tour for us, so
- 6:36Speaker 4: that there they kind of museum which is you know,
- 6:40Speaker 4: building builts in the last few years. It was unbelievable,
- 6:43Speaker 4: just like it was the amount of work they put
- 6:45Speaker 4: in and how they managed to kind of capture the
- 6:47Speaker 4: history of the organization and the history sort of things
- 6:50Speaker 4: was everywhere. Obviously the Rooney family all over it in
- 6:52Speaker 4: the Irish Lynx. It was cool they kind of further
- 6:55Speaker 4: understand those and then just anyone as they moved into
- 6:58Speaker 4: the pro era, like the stability around the coaches they've had,
- 7:02Speaker 4: the stability around the players, the excellence, all the Lombardi's
- 7:05Speaker 4: got to see those, So no, it was class. So
- 7:08Speaker 4: we actually we did a tour of the museum and
- 7:10Speaker 4: the stadium, and then we hopped in cars and headed
- 7:14Speaker 4: up to their facility, which is a different location of
- 7:16Speaker 4: their training facility and their gyms and offices.
- 7:19Speaker 1: So we got to we got to.
- 7:19Speaker 4: See the whole thing, and yeah, the lads would just
- 7:22Speaker 4: sound and just really surely welcoming. Again, we knew they'd
- 7:27Speaker 4: be nice, but they're actually much much nicer, and they
- 7:29Speaker 4: gave us way more time than we probably expected of
- 7:31Speaker 4: people of that kind of statue on a busy.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Weekend, Tyke havn't gotten to experience a not just any
- 7:38Speaker 1: Steelers game, but a Ravens rivalry game at home, up
- 7:41Speaker 1: close and personal. I'd be keen to get your thoughts
- 7:44Speaker 1: on the Steelers so far. There's this season and how
- 7:47Speaker 1: they're performing.
- 7:49Speaker 4: Yeah, the the like that game in particular, you know,
- 7:53Speaker 4: just like the Buznes Stadium was class. But then the
- 7:56Speaker 4: game itself, obviously the first i mean the first three
- 8:00Speaker 4: orders really you know, wasn't a whole lot of happening.
- 8:03Speaker 4: For us, being kickers and punters, we saw a lot
- 8:05Speaker 4: of We saw decent amount of punting, and the stadium
- 8:08Speaker 4: was tough to punt in and kicking, I'll say that
- 8:09Speaker 4: they have that open end, but they so we saw
- 8:12Speaker 4: a lot of action selfishly from from that side of things.
- 8:15Speaker 4: But man, fourth quarter kind of back end of that,
- 8:18Speaker 4: when like things started clicking, they actually had a block
- 8:21Speaker 4: punt for that safety and like you know, the big
- 8:24Speaker 4: defensive stand picked up an intercept and then went downfield
- 8:26Speaker 4: and scored and ah the like the like just the
- 8:30Speaker 4: the the atmosphere within the stadium, the terrible towels were
- 8:34Speaker 4: were going over overdrive and everyone was buzzing. So no,
- 8:37Speaker 4: like that that experience was classed. And then just to
- 8:40Speaker 4: see them kind of you know, they talk a lot
- 8:42Speaker 4: about the kind of organization and like what is built
- 8:44Speaker 4: on and like the just the sea le kind of
- 8:47Speaker 4: the great side of things, and you know it wasn't
- 8:49Speaker 4: the most flash game, but to stay to stay in it,
- 8:51Speaker 4: to stay defensively strong.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Seeing TJ.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Watt like was touching distance from me and the warm
- 8:56Speaker 4: up was quite cool on the sideline and seeing how
- 8:58Speaker 4: they went about their business. And then I'll the seed
- 9:00Speaker 4: to execute when when everything was on the line, So
- 9:04Speaker 4: everyone left. Tens of thousands of fans rolling out of
- 9:07Speaker 4: the stadium after the game was class just because everyone
- 9:09Speaker 4: was on such a high. You know, we didn't get
- 9:11Speaker 4: four quarters of high level entertainment football, but at that
- 9:14Speaker 4: level it's about executing and winning and that's what they
- 9:17Speaker 4: did really well. So now very very much a memory
- 9:20Speaker 4: experience for everyone. And then Ross Bulger he was there.
- 9:23Speaker 4: He actually grew up a lifelong Steelers fan. When he
- 9:25Speaker 4: he used to watch games on a Sunday. His room
- 9:28Speaker 4: was full of Steelers memorabilia. His mum a couple of
- 9:31Speaker 4: years ago hand painting him a photo of TJ.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Watts.
- 9:33Speaker 4: So it was really cool to share the experience with
- 9:35Speaker 4: him as well, because you know he's he's loved it
- 9:37Speaker 4: from the beginning. We saw the bus as he was
- 9:39Speaker 4: walking through the tunnels. After the game, Ross was like
- 9:41Speaker 4: went over and tried to get it, you know, say hi.
- 9:44Speaker 4: He was also not kind of encroaching too much on
- 9:46Speaker 4: the personal space, but it was it was very cool.
- 9:48Speaker 4: It was a memorable day for everyone involved.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And you know, you're manchining about that Revens game that
- 9:54Speaker 3: there wasn't a lot of entertainment in the first three quarters.
- 9:56Speaker 3: That probably described our season so far. You know, we're
- 10:00Speaker 3: a lot of people are maybe looking at having been
- 10:02Speaker 3: playing so well, but at the end of the day.
- 10:03Speaker 3: We're sitting at four too. What's your thought of the
- 10:05Speaker 3: Steelers season so far?
- 10:07Speaker 4: Tag, Yeah, that's actually a perfect analogy to make the
- 10:12Speaker 4: four and two. That's like it was obviously the Sick
- 10:15Speaker 4: when we saw the training of the say like the
- 10:17Speaker 4: six Monbardies and like what only thing only the Patriots
- 10:20Speaker 4: to think I've matched that. You know, it's as the
- 10:25Speaker 4: head coach, you know, the standard is the standards. We
- 10:27Speaker 4: saw that a lot of times. And their ability just
- 10:32Speaker 4: to even when things aren't going perfectly, to still find
- 10:35Speaker 4: a way. That's an any level elite level sports about
- 10:38Speaker 4: finding a way. You can even see like you know
- 10:39Speaker 4: the World Cup in rugby right now with where teams
- 10:42Speaker 4: are finding a way to win and that that game
- 10:44Speaker 4: and so far in the season, they keep finding away
- 10:46Speaker 4: and you hope then as you get into the back
- 10:48Speaker 4: end of thinks the chemistry the time means, you know,
- 10:51Speaker 4: guys on their offensive defensively, things continue to be polished.
- 10:54Speaker 4: But I think it's a credit to them that like,
- 10:57Speaker 4: maybe everything isn't going perfectly, but more often than night
- 11:00Speaker 4: you find a way. So hopefully that that will just
- 11:03Speaker 4: become smoother and more polished over the back end of
- 11:06Speaker 4: the season.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I guess just finally, I'm sure we'll get you on
- 11:11Speaker 2: at some point in the game and going to even
- 11:12Speaker 2: deeper things. Just a sort of double element for me.
- 11:16Speaker 2: And you mentioned obviously Rosster or Ross Bolger obviously also
- 11:19Speaker 2: had Rulin Patterson over Connor Mangan as well, these players
- 11:24Speaker 2: and guys that are really trying to you know, perfect
- 11:27Speaker 2: their craft and become the next generation of players in
- 11:30Speaker 2: Ireland in the States, it's one thing obviously getting the
- 11:33Speaker 2: VIP tour and seeing the game, but how much do
- 11:36Speaker 2: you think that moment sort of collectively meant to them
- 11:38Speaker 2: to be able and obviously yourself as well, but just
- 11:41Speaker 2: to be able to see the direction in which they
- 11:43Speaker 2: can go in because we've seen with with Don Wheeling,
- 11:46Speaker 2: with different guys like you can really make a mark
- 11:48Speaker 2: in the league and it's just a matter of putting
- 11:50Speaker 2: that hard work on that effort in Yeah.
- 11:53Speaker 4: It's I think for for some for the lads as well,
- 11:56Speaker 4: it's you know, the NFL is a giant and sometimes
- 12:01Speaker 4: it can seem so far out of touch just given
- 12:05Speaker 4: the scale up. But what it is but to just
- 12:08Speaker 4: to see, you know, to see the kickers and punters
- 12:10Speaker 4: warming up to see if Boswell Tucker, like two legends
- 12:14Speaker 4: of the game, to see how they went about their business.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Like the lads learned so much about how to conduct
- 12:18Speaker 4: themself in the warm up, how to conduct themselves on
- 12:20Speaker 4: the sideline, how the same gage during the game went
- 12:23Speaker 4: to get emotionally invested, went to sit down and just relax. Again,
- 12:26Speaker 4: there is a kicking and punting perspective, but like that
- 12:28Speaker 4: was an invaluable experience to be up close and personal
- 12:31Speaker 4: to that, and then obviously extremely inspiring to to like
- 12:35Speaker 4: kind of light the candle and think, you know what
- 12:37Speaker 4: if I keep taking care of business and keep just
- 12:40Speaker 4: being patient but progressing, that this could be a viable
- 12:43Speaker 4: thing for me. And obviously how how amazing would it
- 12:47Speaker 4: be to see an Irish lad running out and fourth
- 12:49Speaker 4: down for the Steelers in a couple of years And
- 12:50Speaker 4: I truly think these things are going to become possible.
- 12:53Speaker 4: So yeah, it was.
- 12:54Speaker 1: It was just an inspiring experience.
- 12:56Speaker 4: And then for me trying to build something in Ireland,
- 12:58Speaker 4: just to see that the kind of how and Dan
- 13:01Speaker 4: and Reagan too, like top individuals but like you know,
- 13:03Speaker 4: extremely senior about how they conducted themselves as leaders and
- 13:07Speaker 4: how they went about their business. I thought it was
- 13:09Speaker 4: across the board. Everyone took away a lot of learnings
- 13:11Speaker 4: and I will say genuine humbleness and like a very
- 13:14Speaker 4: authentic experience. So yeah, just can't thank them enough, to
- 13:18Speaker 4: be honest, and we're just so lucky to have got
- 13:20Speaker 4: to experience that.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Pig.
- 13:23Speaker 1: We have one final question for here. We'd love to
- 13:25Speaker 1: know what's in the pipeline for yourself with leader kicking
- 13:28Speaker 1: in the coming months.
- 13:31Speaker 4: A lot, thankfully, the kind of there's two barrels to
- 13:35Speaker 4: a first things first is continuing to build them what
- 13:37Speaker 4: we did last year, getting more lads over our scholarships
- 13:40Speaker 4: to keep growing it that way, and thankfully that's going
- 13:43Speaker 4: well and in conjunction with the AFI, they've been extremely
- 13:47Speaker 4: supportive for actually just in Sport Ireland last weekend doing
- 13:49Speaker 4: some stuff with them and getting the players experience.
- 13:51Speaker 1: So there's that.
- 13:53Speaker 4: But now you might have seen a little bit around
- 13:55Speaker 4: the NFL International Player Passway program that they're now looking
- 13:58Speaker 4: at Irish athletes, typically elite level GA players, rugby players
- 14:03Speaker 4: to go into this program, and it's looking like there's
- 14:05Speaker 4: going to be a few Irish guys five kickers and
- 14:07Speaker 4: punters are going to be selected in mid November to
- 14:10Speaker 4: train full time in Florida to then kick in front
- 14:13Speaker 4: of all thirty two scouts in February, and there's going
- 14:16Speaker 4: to be at least I would say, three Irish lads
- 14:18Speaker 4: getting that opportunity. So I'm hoping we might see an
- 14:22Speaker 4: Irish lad get signed to a roster next season, probably
- 14:25Speaker 4: practice squad, and then get more lads to college. And
- 14:28Speaker 4: if that was the case, like wow, like dreamland territory.
- 14:32Speaker 4: So we're working hard, but thankfully people are executing. Everyone's
- 14:35Speaker 4: doing their job, which is really important, and things are
- 14:38Speaker 4: moving in the right direction. And then hopefully the Steelers stuff.
- 14:40Speaker 4: You know, they've some stuff coming in November which would
- 14:43Speaker 4: be classed to be able to help out and assist
- 14:45Speaker 4: with that as well.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I saw mixed eyes light up, Tyke when you our
- 14:52Speaker 1: listeners can't don't have the video, they only get the audio.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Would he was leefully reacting to that to that new
- 15:00Speaker 1: Is that that's great to hear?
- 15:03Speaker 4: We're happy it's moving. Yeah, it's moving the right direction,
- 15:06Speaker 4: like yourselves, good people, passionate, like just everyone's kind of
- 15:10Speaker 4: what was working hard. So I truly believe this sport
- 15:13Speaker 4: is going to go through just like unprecedented growth in
- 15:16Speaker 4: the next like right now we're in it and the
- 15:18Speaker 4: next couple of years, and obviously everyone here is going
- 15:21Speaker 4: to play a big part and just kind of keep
- 15:22Speaker 4: getting it out there, getting exposure and yeah, what a
- 15:26Speaker 4: good time to be involved. I truly feel like it's
- 15:28Speaker 4: like almost like a startup American football in Ireland and
- 15:30Speaker 4: we're all at the ground floor and it's about to
- 15:32Speaker 4: take off. So that's that's that's my dream.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Anyway, as we say on Ireland, keep her lit, keep
- 15:39Speaker 2: her lit. Tiger flying high and we obviously appreciate your
- 15:43Speaker 2: support and just look look at you Tagle on the
- 15:45Speaker 2: last minute as well chatting to us. And the next
- 15:47Speaker 2: time you're in Pittsburgh, we're gonna sneak into your bag
- 15:50Speaker 2: or just get over there as well. But certainly continue success.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Ever in their sounds fantastic and here we will chat
- 15:56Speaker 2: to you soon. If we don't chat to you before
- 15:58Speaker 2: the Steelers get to the super Bowl, will shot to
- 16:00Speaker 2: you in the offseason property I get a proper interview,
- 16:03Speaker 2: but you want your times. I appreciate it. Ty Leader
- 16:05Speaker 2: there on the Irish Theaters podcast. Great to hear from
- 16:08Speaker 2: Tiger before we go into the game previous. This week,
- 16:10Speaker 2: let's hear from coach Tumlan ahead of the Steelers matchup
- 16:12Speaker 2: against the Jacksonville jogh Uverars this weekend.
- 16:19Speaker 5: Exciting week for US. Great to be back home at
- 16:22Speaker 5: Akershire Stadium this weekend versus a really good football team. Also,
- 16:26Speaker 5: it's really great because we have some Hall of Honor
- 16:29Speaker 5: inductees this weekend, Moon Mullins and Ray Mansfield Stealer legends,
- 16:35Speaker 5: and a couple of guys that played for me, Aaron
- 16:38Speaker 5: Smith and James Harrison. Man. Really excited about bringing those
- 16:42Speaker 5: guys into their rightful place this weekend and honoring them.
- 16:46Speaker 5: I'll start first with a quick review of our last performance.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Like I always do, I was just really appreciative of
- 16:54Speaker 5: the fight of the guys. We had some challenges obviously
- 16:58Speaker 5: that we outline postgame. At the early stages of the game,
- 17:03Speaker 5: I thought the Rams did a really nice job of
- 17:06Speaker 5: throwing some things that is differently on the defensive side
- 17:09Speaker 5: of the ball that they hadn't displayed that created some
- 17:12Speaker 5: issues for US. I thought they did a really nice
- 17:16Speaker 5: job of of of manufacturing a run game with the
- 17:19Speaker 5: Committee of Backs and and doing some things there that
- 17:23Speaker 5: that that were challenging and we had to adjust to
- 17:25Speaker 5: I thought our coaches and players did a really nice
- 17:28Speaker 5: job of managing some of those required adjustments at halftime. Uh,
- 17:33Speaker 5: there's always an element of concern coming off of a
- 17:35Speaker 5: buy about running out of the locker room. I thought
- 17:39Speaker 5: we warmed up to it a little bit. That's why
- 17:42Speaker 5: we intentionally took the ball. We didn't want to give
- 17:45Speaker 5: the ball to Matt Stafford, a guy like Matt Stafford
- 17:49Speaker 5: to start a game if we were warming up to it.
- 17:52Speaker 5: That ended up kind of being a non issue really.
- 17:55Speaker 5: As both teams exchanged punts, I guess they're at the
- 17:57Speaker 5: early stages of it. But as the game we're on,
- 18:01Speaker 5: I thought we just really settled into the type of
- 18:04Speaker 5: play that we desire. I thought that we won possession
- 18:08Speaker 5: downs on both sides of the ballot. I thought our
- 18:13Speaker 5: bax tied up those possession downs, and our bigs upfront
- 18:16Speaker 5: on offense, we're able to get a run game established there,
- 18:20Speaker 5: and obviously that is assisted by the winning of the
- 18:22Speaker 5: possession downs. You don't get a chance to put together
- 18:25Speaker 5: ten play eighty yard drives and unless you're doing a
- 18:28Speaker 5: little bit of both and they feed one another on
- 18:32Speaker 5: defense man. I thought we settled down and adjusted to
- 18:36Speaker 5: some of the run things that they were doing with
- 18:38Speaker 5: their committee. We put ourselves in advantageous third down circumstances
- 18:43Speaker 5: and we won them, although we were in some advantageous
- 18:46Speaker 5: circumstances on possession downs in the first half. I think
- 18:48Speaker 5: they converted two third and elevens, for example, on us
- 18:52Speaker 5: in the first half, and you're never going to have
- 18:54Speaker 5: the type of half that you desire to have on
- 18:57Speaker 5: either side of the ball when the opposing team is
- 18:59Speaker 5: can verting third and eleven's. Those are just the type
- 19:02Speaker 5: of downs that you're supposed to win. The plays that
- 19:05Speaker 5: happened after those are not supposed to happen, the time
- 19:08Speaker 5: of possession that happens after those, the field positioning component, etc.
- 19:13Speaker 5: And so that's what I mean when I'm talking postgame
- 19:16Speaker 5: about how possession down play really kind of shapes a half,
- 19:21Speaker 5: if you will, and the fact that we weren't winning
- 19:23Speaker 5: them on either side had a, you know, a reverberating effect,
- 19:28Speaker 5: if you will, on other areas of play. But we
- 19:32Speaker 5: got those things settled down. I thought guys did a
- 19:34Speaker 5: really nice job of maintaining singular focus and some play making,
- 19:38Speaker 5: particularly down the stretch. Can't say enough about a players
- 19:43Speaker 5: making a plays man. Guys like TJ. You know, we
- 19:48Speaker 5: were used to it, We expect it, but it still
- 19:51Speaker 5: doesn't mean that we don't appreciate it. We appreciate it.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Plays that we'll come accustomed to seeing him make week
- 19:58Speaker 5: in and week out. We appreciative. It was a game changer,
- 20:02Speaker 5: no doubt. It provided the short field that that allowed
- 20:07Speaker 5: us to go in the score and and and provided
- 20:10Speaker 5: the type of momentum that I thought was a catalyst
- 20:13Speaker 5: for the second half of play. Talking about Trevor, Lawrence
- 20:16Speaker 5: Man and and an t end Man, they're they're challenging
- 20:20Speaker 5: group at t end obviously with his explosive run ability,
- 20:24Speaker 5: his ability to hit the gas, particularly on the perimeter
- 20:27Speaker 5: and get yards in chunks, and Trevor's not only his arms,
- 20:32Speaker 5: but his legs and the in the ways that they
- 20:34Speaker 5: utilize UH. The talents of both UH in the running game,
- 20:39Speaker 5: in the passing game, play action, misdirection, et cetera. Trevor
- 20:44Speaker 5: is also good in the drop back game. They're capable
- 20:46Speaker 5: of spread you out, emptying the backfield and challenging you
- 20:49Speaker 5: that way. He makes good and timely decisions and does
- 20:53Speaker 5: a nice job of taking care of the ball. As
- 20:55Speaker 5: I mentioned when I was talking about the defense, the
- 20:57Speaker 5: turnover ratio is a component of of you know, the
- 21:01Speaker 5: engineering of victory for them, and so it takes both sides. Man,
- 21:05Speaker 5: Trevor's got some some dangerous eligibles to throw to. Calvin
- 21:10Speaker 5: Ridley is a new acquisition man, that's that's proven to
- 21:13Speaker 5: be a solid acquisition for them. Christian kirk uh is
- 21:17Speaker 5: a big time player at tight end. Evan is a problem.
- 21:23Speaker 5: They just got a nice, well rounded group. Agnew as
- 21:26Speaker 5: a as a kick returner, slash, wide receiver, gadget man.
- 21:31Speaker 5: They do a really do They do a really nice
- 21:32Speaker 5: job of dividing up the labor, making you defend a
- 21:35Speaker 5: lot of eligibles. Trevor is at the controls of all
- 21:40Speaker 5: of it. He does a really nice job at t
- 21:42Speaker 5: end is problematic as well, as I mentioned, And so
- 21:47Speaker 5: there's a lot that has our attention.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Coach Tomlin on the Irish series Talk Costs is the
- 21:53Speaker 2: moss game, Jimmy this weekend. I was joking with the
- 21:55Speaker 2: at the start, you know it's the it's the bottle
- 21:58Speaker 2: of the NFL global market, seems it is. It is
- 22:01Speaker 2: And then I think the first time has happened since
- 22:03Speaker 2: obviously the announcement has happened in all good fun though,
- 22:06Speaker 2: and it would be Gimy'd love to see in Ireland
- 22:09Speaker 2: at some point in the future. But right here, right now,
- 22:12Speaker 2: this week, week end of the season, and the way
- 22:15Speaker 2: I would look at it is an opportunity and an
- 22:17Speaker 2: opportunity to sort of present itself. I was jumping on
- 22:20Speaker 2: your bandwagon, Jimmy on a different podcast this week given
- 22:23Speaker 2: my pick, saying I think this is a week where
- 22:26Speaker 2: a certain running back really puts himselves down as r
- 22:29Speaker 2: been one for the Steelers, and I think the run
- 22:30Speaker 2: game is obviously going to be crucial and someday. Just
- 22:33Speaker 2: eager to hear your thoughts ahead of this game this week, Jimmy,
- 22:37Speaker 2: feel free to dealership pick as well. One.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, I think this has to be the week
- 22:42Speaker 1: make that the Steelers finally cement themselves in the league.
- 22:45Speaker 1: That there's been a couple's been. We've seen some slow
- 22:47Speaker 1: growth and we've seen some slow progression, but this is
- 22:50Speaker 1: the week they have they finally have to break out
- 22:53Speaker 1: if the season is going to go the way that
- 22:55Speaker 1: we wanted to. There's a couple of key things. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: I was talking to you, but was offline during the
- 23:00Speaker 1: week and I completely forgot to mention Nick Herbig doing
- 23:04Speaker 1: his best JJ TJ Watt impression off the edge last
- 23:08Speaker 1: week with a massive sack against the Rams. So he's
- 23:12Speaker 1: another fellow that I feel has massive potential to break
- 23:16Speaker 1: out and become an absolute force as a linebacker. So
- 23:20Speaker 1: keep an eye on him. But yeah, Jalen Warren, I
- 23:22Speaker 1: think is going to continue to to to command and
- 23:25Speaker 1: leave some bounds. I think we could really see him,
- 23:29Speaker 1: like you say, establish himself as the standalone or as
- 23:33Speaker 1: the lead running back for the Steelers. I had a
- 23:35Speaker 1: quick look at the at the Jags record there while
- 23:38Speaker 1: we were tatting to tie their five and two at
- 23:40Speaker 1: the minute, so they're similarly matched to us. Interestingly, they're
- 23:43Speaker 1: three and zero on the road, so they are undefeated
- 23:46Speaker 1: in road games. That's something to wash out on and
- 23:49Speaker 1: hopefully Steelers Nation can can add to the atmosphere and
- 23:53Speaker 1: aquasure and get them, get to get them unbalanced when
- 23:56Speaker 1: we take them on.
- 23:58Speaker 2: And do you just what Jimmy said that, I mean,
- 24:00Speaker 2: it's they're all a bit of a run, these joys.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Just this Jags team, I know they had a very
- 24:05Speaker 2: disappointing result a few weeks ago, think it was against
- 24:07Speaker 2: the Taxans, but outside of that they have been impressive
- 24:11Speaker 2: and the look any team coming into Arkshire is going
- 24:13Speaker 2: to create a challenge, but when you get such young
- 24:17Speaker 2: talent with the Jags, it's going to be so important
- 24:19Speaker 2: for this defense to stop them as quickly as possible.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Give us your pick as well this week.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Yeah, no, just the backup everything Jimmy said there, you know,
- 24:29Speaker 3: they're they're solid team. The other thing is, obviously you
- 24:31Speaker 3: know the road record. It probably corresponds as well that
- 24:34Speaker 3: the fact have played two games in London as well,
- 24:36Speaker 3: you know what I mean. Hopefully there may be feeling
- 24:38Speaker 3: a bit of that jat Lag this week. We could
- 24:39Speaker 3: get them on a bad week. So just even looking
- 24:42Speaker 3: at them as well, on the start, Shaet, they're nothing
- 24:45Speaker 3: really jumps off, the jumps up in front of you,
- 24:48Speaker 3: you know, the middle of the pack and most of
- 24:50Speaker 3: the statistical areas. You know, their defense has giving up
- 24:53Speaker 3: the most passing yards in the league this season, which
- 24:55Speaker 3: probably indicates, you know, we're matching about the wrong game.
- 24:58Speaker 3: It's probably a good week to ma Kenny sling it
- 25:01Speaker 3: a bit and obviously as well, they're sacking in the
- 25:05Speaker 3: league on defensive interceptions as well behind the fourignin ers,
- 25:07Speaker 3: so there's always that risk as well. But even coming
- 25:10Speaker 3: back to the run game, Jill and Warren, I think
- 25:13Speaker 3: his best camp, if you actually think of it, maybe
- 25:14Speaker 3: Austin Ackler. Austnackler runs with that sort of you know,
- 25:17Speaker 3: aggressive tenacity as well, and he's now I'm man, you
- 25:20Speaker 3: can never bring down on first hits. So hopefully this
- 25:24Speaker 3: is the week maybe we finally see some you know,
- 25:27Speaker 3: with with the running game. Obviously there was an improvement
- 25:30Speaker 3: last week against LA but at the same time someone's
- 25:33Speaker 3: yet to stake acclaim for that running back one position.
- 25:36Speaker 3: So hopefully this is the week that that Jillen Morgan
- 25:38Speaker 3: obviously semat that place, and obviously it can only bring
- 25:40Speaker 3: the best in nausea as well, So it's gonna be
- 25:44Speaker 3: a good game on a suspect, it's gonna be tight,
- 25:46Speaker 3: good right out of the wire. But again, fourth quarter
- 25:49Speaker 3: can if he can show up again, then I'm confident
- 25:51Speaker 3: we can get the win.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Fourth quarter. Canny hold on, are we all going full
- 25:56Speaker 2: eyes there?
- 25:57Speaker 1: And in the midst I think I think we have
- 26:00Speaker 1: to I mean we we've nailed our flag to the
- 26:03Speaker 1: mass well earlier this season, so I think we've no choice.
- 26:05Speaker 1: But it is the Steelers Ireland Podcast after all, so
- 26:09Speaker 1: I think we am. And you know, it's not just
- 26:12Speaker 1: not just being biased because we're fans of me. Objectively,
- 26:15Speaker 1: we have seen a huge amount of improvement and I think,
- 26:18Speaker 1: I think, and I crossed my fingers and I send
- 26:21Speaker 1: all good wishes that this is the week we finally
- 26:24Speaker 1: see the Steelers reach the full potential that we know
- 26:27Speaker 1: that they have and that we've seen in brief flashes
- 26:30Speaker 1: throughout the season so far.
- 26:32Speaker 2: And as we said on Monday, best week of the year.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Games are all in our earlier for us. Bring it'll
- 26:39Speaker 2: bring it all. Genuinely, I can't wit. I'm actually wasn't
- 26:41Speaker 2: the be able.
- 26:42Speaker 3: To It's people like if if anybody's listening from the
- 26:45Speaker 3: US to probably thinking one of these guys talking about
- 26:47Speaker 3: but it literally is night and day difference for us.
- 26:50Speaker 3: That extra art kip in the morning as well, and
- 26:53Speaker 3: we've got a prime time game next week at the
- 26:54Speaker 3: Titans which will obviously look ut as well. But yeah,
- 26:58Speaker 3: you know it's a good time to obviously be a Steeler.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Shawan as well, But I'm just gonna rull in my
- 27:03Speaker 3: production here. I think the Steelers will win twenty seven
- 27:06Speaker 3: twenty four. That's my prediction, and say every week checked
- 27:10Speaker 3: out of the bank to use the mink.
- 27:12Speaker 1: I'm going to the exact I'm going with the exact
- 27:14Speaker 1: sket the exact same score, not the copy of the day.
- 27:17Speaker 1: But I think it's going to come down to the wire.
- 27:19Speaker 1: I think you know in in Chris Bosby trust, and
- 27:23Speaker 1: I think it will come down to that Deald goal difference,
- 27:25Speaker 1: possibly as dramatic finish as as the clock winds out.
- 27:29Speaker 1: But we'll see. But I am going Steelers twenty seven,
- 27:31Speaker 1: Jags twenty four.
- 27:33Speaker 2: I have got two questions. I'll go for each of
- 27:37Speaker 2: you boys, and then we'll rap. Thanks people getting questions
- 27:41Speaker 2: in hashtags Steelers Ireland at Steeers Ireland on x, on
- 27:45Speaker 2: Instagram and on TikTok, You're made. Stephen kerns to me,
- 27:49Speaker 2: who would you love to see the Steelers target in
- 27:51Speaker 2: the potential trade? Be realistic? He says in brackets with
- 27:53Speaker 2: a laugh of the mujie before the deadline Halloween? And
- 27:56Speaker 2: what would you be willing to give up to make
- 27:58Speaker 2: it happen? I bother thinking, I'm just happy the way.
- 28:01Speaker 2: There's the.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, the only area that concerns me slightly
- 28:09Speaker 1: at the minute is defensive back cornerback. Now, I know
- 28:13Speaker 1: that Minka has been used more in the run as
- 28:16Speaker 1: a run stopper at the minute, and he hasn't had
- 28:18Speaker 1: opportunities to play that kind of center fielder role where
- 28:21Speaker 1: he's where he's ballhogging. And as much as I love
- 28:25Speaker 1: Patrick Peterson, he's a shadow of his former self in
- 28:29Speaker 1: terms of coverage and the younger wide receivers. So if
- 28:32Speaker 1: a potential trade was to happen, I would definitely like
- 28:35Speaker 1: to see us take a young, exciting cornerback. Who that
- 28:39Speaker 1: is I don't know, but yeah, that's the only real
- 28:42Speaker 1: area of quote unquote weakness that I can identify with
- 28:45Speaker 1: the Steelers at the minute.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I've got a name for you.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Go for it.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Well, the Broncos are clearinghouse, go and get Patrick's ertain.
- 28:54Speaker 1: I actually saw during the week that that rumor that
- 28:58Speaker 1: was going to happen, So that's get to kind of
- 29:00Speaker 1: inform my decision. Bush. You know, it's hard to imagine
- 29:03Speaker 1: the transpiring.
- 29:05Speaker 2: I think, see, I don't know if it's gonna be
- 29:08Speaker 2: the Steelers, but I think guys like Jerry, Judy Dave
- 29:11Speaker 2: will be in the trade block. I think PS two
- 29:12Speaker 2: would be more difficult because of the age and if
- 29:16Speaker 2: you rebuild, you're going to rebuild around some young players.
- 29:18Speaker 2: But I hear look happy, Daz he I've got one
- 29:22Speaker 2: more question I've got I'll start with you this time,
- 29:24Speaker 2: the mister Bradley, Michael o' braley. Is it more likely
- 29:29Speaker 2: to be a preseason game or a regular season game
- 29:32Speaker 2: to come to Dublin? If and when that happens, I'm
- 29:34Speaker 2: gonna explicitly stay it Before Dave answers this question Steelers
- 29:39Speaker 2: dot com slash Ireland. They aspire the team as Spires
- 29:42Speaker 2: to play game as the point in the future, So
- 29:44Speaker 2: I guess the answer is we don't know, but feel
- 29:47Speaker 2: free hard on that.
- 29:48Speaker 1: No, we're sticking with the party line, mister Brady. There
- 29:51Speaker 1: as much as we'd all love to have a regular
- 29:54Speaker 1: season game, any sort of Steelers game in Ireland or
- 29:59Speaker 1: you know, I've never ready have there been to a
- 30:00Speaker 1: Staiers game yet, So I would take any Steapers game, Yeah,
- 30:04Speaker 1: decided the Atlantic.
- 30:05Speaker 2: I'll take a scrimmage.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Yes, I'll take any game as well. I know it's
- 30:11Speaker 3: it's a bit wishful thinking maybe a regular season game
- 30:13Speaker 3: this early, but I think the likeliness is probably a
- 30:16Speaker 3: preseason game. But as you said, Jimmy, any games, any
- 30:19Speaker 3: Steers game is a win for us, So no matter what,
- 30:21Speaker 3: will be there, whether we're eleven or.
- 30:25Speaker 2: We're living Oh my god, love it. If thanks if
- 30:29Speaker 2: we're getting their questions in the hashtag Seaters Ireland, let
- 30:31Speaker 2: us do some questions, folks of these can quickly enough
- 30:34Speaker 2: after the game and Sunday, we're gonna come back the
- 30:36Speaker 2: podcast for hopefully Monday morning. I think as I look
- 30:39Speaker 2: at at least Dave here now, I know, I know
- 30:42Speaker 2: Jimmy might be busy, but we'll get back after this game,
- 30:45Speaker 2: win or loss. I mean it'll be a win, but
- 30:47Speaker 2: we'll be back in the meantime. Thank you aus much
- 30:49Speaker 2: for listening. This has been the hour Shaters podcast. Will
- 30:51Speaker 2: be enjoy a week yet, let's go beat the Jags.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Here we go, lads, Thank you so much. Chattison mod
