- 1:46So a big weekend coming up with Montreal.
- 1:49First set for the final game of this series with the Cubs. And here for the play-by-play at inning one Andy Mugger.
- 1:54Andy?
- 1:55Okay, Harry, thank you. Good afternoon everybody. And Baked McBride ready to lead it off. Baked batting at 2-16 for the Phillies.
- 2:01We have a mostly sunny day here in Chicago. And as Harry and Rich mentioned on the opening, the wind is blowing out.
- 2:07So look out for some explosions here today.
- 2:10McBride carrying a 3-29 lifetime batting average against Chicago pitching.
- 2:17Here's Lamp's first delivery. Swung on on this strike one.
- 2:20Lamp can throw pretty hard. He has a sinking fastball and he has a breaking ball that he calls a slur of a cross between a curve and a slider.
- 2:30The right hander winds and there is a pitch outside. One ball, one strike. He also throws a change of pace.
- 2:36And although Lamp has pitched free baseball against the Phillies, he has never beaten Philadelphia. He has 0-3 lifetime.
- 2:43McBride swings and lines a single in the left center field. Lover in a hurry as Kingman to scoop that ball out.
- 2:49Baked takes a wide turn but stays at first base. Single to left field by McBride to start out the Phillies.
- 2:56One thing Andy that Baked has not been doing this season is getting his hits early. He's getting almost all of them after the fifth inning.
- 3:04He's talking about the other day, he said for some reason he can't get a base hit in his first two or three times up. Started out well today. Good hard line drive.
- 3:15Here's Larry Boa at the plate. He sends a shot into shallow left field. It is falling and going beyond Kingman. It's going to roll for a while.
- 3:22Back to the wall. McBride coming over toward third being held there as Boa rounds second with a double.
- 3:29Kingman came in and tried to shoestring that ball. Couldn't and the ball hopped by him in a hurry.
- 3:35And it was up to Jerry Martin to run that ball down to the wall in left field.
- 3:40Little surprise that Baked didn't have a little more of a lead off first base. He was close to the bag.
- 3:47He would have scored easily had he been closer to second. And I think Boa probably would have been able to lay down a triple there.
- 3:55But Lamps in early trouble. It turns out to be Boa's fifth double of the year.
- 4:03And with fills at second and third, here's Pete Rose. Pete batting at three forty six. Second highest figure in the National League.
- 4:14Lamp was going to pitch from the stretch and now has decided to square around and use the wind up.
- 4:21Takes a look at McBride goes into his wind up and the pitch to Rose is outside a ball.
- 4:27He does bat it safely in 12 of the last 13 Phillies games.
- 4:37Lamp asked for a new baseball, got one, didn't like it, now asking for another exchange.
- 4:43Second and third, nobody out.
- 4:46Phillies trying to win the getaway game in this series after losing the opener and winning 13 to nothing yesterday.
- 4:53Here's Lamps pitch to Rose. It catches the outside corner of the strike.
- 5:00Phillies have had good success here in the last three years at Wrigley Field winning five, winning 15 rather and losing five.
- 5:10Lamp lines, here's the one one to Rose. A bouncer on one hop back to the mound throws the third base and they tag out McBride.
- 5:17Bates could not get back to third base. Safe at first on the fielder's choice, Rose. Boa holds second.
- 5:24Score that one one to five.
- 5:28Well when the ball was hit, Bates broke a little bit and that cost him the play at third.
- 5:32Lamp very heads up play, noticing it and getting McBride easily at third base. That's a big play for Dennis Lamp.
- 5:41First down of the inning now runners at first and second in the batter Mike Schmidt who leads the National League in home runs with a dozen.
- 5:48Mike batting at 270.
- 5:52Schmitty has driven in runs in four of the last five Phillies games.
- 5:57Now Lamp will work from the stretch.
- 6:00Here's the first pitch to Schmit. Very high fly ball into left field. Kingman going back. He's on the warning track. He's at the wall.
- 6:07And that ball is out of here.
- 6:10Mike Schmidt got that ball way up into the wind to left field and it's a three run homer.
- 6:15His third of the series, 13th of the year in the Phillies, jump out in front three to nothing.
- 6:21Boy what an example of what the wind is going to do to that ball. I mean that looked like a routine fly ball.
- 6:27Kingman out there thought that's what it was at the start. He kept going back, kept going back.
- 6:32I'd say it blew pretty well over that left field fence.
- 6:38Billy's up to a three nothing start and Mike Schmidt wins a case of tasty cake and one for United Terrible Falls, the Association of Philadelphia.
- 6:47Schmitty now with 31 RBIs and that'll put him right up near the league lead in that category.
- 6:53Del Unser at the plate takes a strike. Andy, I'll bet he got another hundred feet out of that from the wind.
- 6:58He got it way high in the air and of course that's what you're going to have to do today.
- 7:04Next pitch on the way to Unser is low and outside. One ball, one strike.
- 7:08There's no doubt in my mind that Kingman thought he could catch that ball.
- 7:12First he was on the track, then he backed off, then he looked in desperation as it sailed over the wall.
- 7:17Outside to Unser, two balls and a strike. Del batting at 444. Del has batted safely in five straight ball games.
- 7:24It has certainly been a great plus for the Phillies as he plays left field while Greg Luzinski sits these games up with a thigh muscle pull.
- 7:33Greg may be able to play tomorrow night at the vet. Way outside to Unser, three balls and a strike.
- 7:45Lamp throwing back a lot of baseballs. I don't know whether it's the baseballs or his finger.
- 7:51He has a finger that he's had blisters on. Maybe he can't get the feel of the ball.
- 7:59He has not been pitching. It's been quite a while since he pitched. What is it, his index finger?
- 8:05I believe it's the middle finger on his pitching. And May Peth was the last time he pitched and he did a good job in that ball game.
- 8:13Pitching a complete game and beating Houston. Here is a solid shot. May Peth to center field by Del Unser.
- 8:20He lined that ball solidly back through the middle and that is the fourth hit of the inning for the Phillies.
- 8:27Del Unser now batting safely in six straight ball games.
- 8:35That brings up Gary Maddox. Phillies off to a fast start today. They lead this game free to nothing.
- 8:41Maddox batting at 277. Pitch to the right-handed batter. Swing and a miss and a breaking pitch.
- 8:51Piedro is scoring ahead of that.
- 8:55Home run by Mike Schmidt had a milestone run score today. Here's the next pitch to Maddox. It's outside.
- 9:01Donnie Moore starting to warm for the Cubs.
- 9:04Right now moving into 19th place on the all-time run scored list surpassing Mickey Mantle for the most runs ever scored by a switch hitter.
- 9:13Here's a shot by Maddox down the left field line. It falls in for a hit. Going to second base is Unser.
- 9:19Gary Maddox drops a single in the left field and the hits just keep falling for the Phillies.
- 9:24Four line drives and a home run.
- 9:27And the home run really hits right on the button.
- 9:37First and second still just one away. Bob Boone will be the batter and there's a conference at the Chicago Mound.
- 9:43And here comes Mike Roark the Chicago pitching coach out of the dugout.
- 9:50Another milestone with all these things happening. It's tough to get this in but we wanted to mention too that Larry Bola needed just one at bat to pass Sherry McGee and move into sixth place on the all-time Phillies list.
- 10:04And of course Larry had that at bat in the first inning here today with his double.
- 10:09Sherry McGee the retired Phillies player with 5,500 at bats during his career.
- 10:15Lamp will stay in the game for now and work to Boone who is hitting a 2-37.
- 10:25Montreal failed to score in the fourth inning at St. Louis. Cardinals leading that game 2-0 last half of the fourth inning.
- 10:31Left-hander Dan Schatzeter pitching against right-hander Silvio Martinez.
- 10:38First and second one out stretched by Lamp and the pitch to Boone inside ball one.
- 10:43Bob has batted safely in eight of the last ten games in which he has played.
- 10:48Yesterday Boone had the day off as Tim McCarver caught the free hitter by Steve Carlson.
- 10:55Stretched by Lamp and the pitch to Boone fouled into the crowd a strike.
- 11:01Phillies will be back home tomorrow night and they are hot. They have won nine of their last twelve games.
- 11:06And their three and a half game margin in the National League East right now is as large as they've had all year long.
- 11:14If the Cardinals would beat the Expos at St. Louis today the Cardinals would move past them into second place.
- 11:21The 1-1 pitch to Boone. Here's a shot to left field. Hit well. Kingman back. You'll watch again and that ball fails out of here.
- 11:28Another three run homer this one by Bob Boone and the Phillies lead it six to nothing.
- 11:34And that was a line drive. He didn't need any help from the wind. He got it. He put it right over the fence.
- 11:39Over the bleachers and everything and boy that's hard to believe. That ball is jumping off the bat.
- 11:46Six hits and six runs. And we're going to have a pitching change here in Chicago as manager Herman Franks is headed for the mound.
- 11:55After a pair of three run homers issued by Dennis Lamp. That was home run number two for Bob Boone.
- 12:02Who now gets RBI's number 12, 13 and 14. Andy wins a case of tasty cake and one for United Cerebral Palsy Association of Philadelphia.
- 12:12A six nothing start for the Phillies who will send Rudy Miolli to the plate. With only one out they will bat around this inning.
- 12:19And we'll be back to give you the rest of the action right after we pause for these messages.

- 13:51Right hander Donnie Moore takes over for Chicago. He's facing Rudy Meole. His first pitch is low ball one.
- 14:03Dennis Lamp knocked out pitching only one third of an inning and he gave up six hits and six runs.
- 14:09Meole batting 185. He drove in four runs here yesterday. Here's Moore's next delivery and it's over for a called strike one and one.
- 14:18Moore has a one and two record this year of five point one four earned run average.
- 14:24He has made 11 appearances all in relief.
- 14:28The one one pitch to Meole low ball two.
- 14:32Last year Moore relieved 11 times against the Phillies making more appearances than any other pitcher in the National League.
- 14:45The two one pitch to Meole left handed batter gets a piece of it as he swings and fouls it back two balls and two strikes.
- 14:56A pair of three run homers here, one by Schmidt and another by Bob Boone who incidentally nailed Dennis Lamp for a home run last year.
- 15:04Has staked the Phillies to a six nothing start in this ball game and the Cubs have not even batted.
- 15:09Here's a breaking ball popped up third base side but it'll go out of play into the seats.
- 15:18The only batting with the bases empty and one out assuring that the Phillies will bat around here in the first inning.
- 15:25We told you at the start the wind was blowing out and we have had one win eight at home run and one that probably would have been a home run here on almost any day.
- 15:35The two to Meole he is out of there trying to check his swing but the pitch was over for a strike.
- 15:41Second out of the inning.
- 15:47And here's Randy Lurch coming to the plate before he takes the mound.
- 15:51Randy batting at one hundred two hits and twenty trips to the plate.
- 15:57More winds here's the pitch to Lurch breaking ball in the dirt ball one.
- 16:02The Phillies with a twenty three and ten record that figures out to a six ninety seven percentage the best in baseball.
- 16:09Swinging in a foul ball by Randy grounded next to the Phillies dugout.
- 16:15One ball and one strike to Lurch.
- 16:18Randy left handed batter.
- 16:25Here's the one one pitch to him long inside ball to two and one.
- 16:30Big McBride who started it all with a single left field is waiting on deck.
- 16:40Here's the pitch to Lurch at a foul ball out of play down the left field line two balls and two strikes.
- 16:55Reliever more winds and here's the next pitch to Lurch it's outside ball three three and two.
- 17:12More staring in his foot for the time has it and here's the three to Lurch.
- 17:16It's a five ball hit pretty well into left center field.
- 17:19It is out of here Randy Lurch has hit a home run.
- 17:25That ball was hit on the line and failed into the bleacher area and left center field.
- 17:29It's the third home run of the inning for the Phillies and they lead this game seven to nothing.
- 17:34I'd say it's live.
- 17:36Live will be quite a day here.
- 17:39Lurch hit the ball very hard.
- 17:41It was a low liner and just cleared that little net over the left field bleachers.
- 17:48Randy Lurch has homered for a case of tasty cake and one for United Cerebral Quality Association.
- 17:56Here's Bake McBride back up there for the second time in the inning.
- 18:01And the first pitch to Bake is over for a strike.
- 18:03That was lifetime home run number four for Randy Lurch.
- 18:06Hey Andy they look like bullets off that bat today.
- 18:09They're jumping off there.
- 18:13More winds and the one strike to McBride bouncing foul beyond the first base coaching box.
- 18:18Bake single in his first at bat.
- 18:22Phillies with three home runs among their seven hits here in the first inning.
- 18:36More winds here's the 0-2 to McBride.
- 18:38A pop foul on the third base side.
- 18:41The wind holding that one fair now and Onoveras comes in and takes it to the out.
- 18:45McBride pops out to Onoveras and the Phillies are finally retired in the first inning but they have scored seven runs on seven hits.
- 18:53And nobody left on base.
- 18:55At the end of a half inning it's 7-0 Philadelphia.
- 19:03Well Randy Lurch has already hit a home run in this ball game and now he takes the bound for the Phillies who have staked him to a 7-0 start in this ball game
- 19:10as they sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning and had three home runs among their seven hits.
- 19:18Leading off for Chicago the shortstop Yvonne DeJesus who broke up Carlton's perfect game yesterday with a single in the seventh inning.
- 19:25Pitch to the right handed batter is on the inside corner a called strike.
- 19:29Randy is 2-2 his earned run average is 3.17.
- 19:35DeJesus batting at 2-22.
- 19:42Lurch winds and the next pitch is a breaking ball over for a strike nothing in two on DeJesus.
- 19:48Joi Amalfatano coaching at third base.
- 19:50Cookie Rojas at first for Chicago.
- 19:53Cubs have lost five of their last eight games.
- 19:57The two strike to DeJesus fastball low and inside.
- 20:00Mike Vail is on deck.
- 20:03One American League game this afternoon Cleveland leads Toronto 3-2 Indians batting in the last of the third inning.
- 20:09Mark Lemongelo for the Blue Jays.
- 20:11Mike Paxton for the Indians.
- 20:13Here's a breaking ball bounce foul beyond third base.
- 20:16Still a ball and two strikes to DeJesus.
- 20:19Andre Thornton and Dave Rosello have both hit Cleveland home runs in that game.
- 20:24Later this afternoon one other American League contest the White Sox play at Oakland.
- 20:33The 1-2 pitch today DeJesus he lost the foul back out of play into the seats.
- 20:41Evon the only Chicago player to collect more than one hit yesterday as we mentioned Carlton yielded just three and he had two of them.
- 20:511-2 pitch today DeJesus takes it low 2-2.
- 20:57Last year Evon had two hits and seven at bats against the left hander Randy Lurch.
- 21:02Randy beat Chicago twice last year without defeat.
- 21:05The 2-2 pitch is a check swing line drive into center field a base hit.
- 21:10He didn't really have a full rip at that maybe it isn't correct to say that he checked his swing it was kind of a half swing but he shot it into center field and DeJesus has a single.
- 21:20You got to hold your breath today because the Cubs can loft the ball out of this ballpark also.
- 21:28And a feeling that might wind up about 19 to 12.
- 21:36Good thing we've got a late flight tonight.
- 21:39Here's Mike Vail at the plate.
- 21:41Pitch on the way to the right handed batter is top foul out of play into the upper deck.
- 21:45Vail is hitting a 3-53 playing in right field as the Cubs have been platooning at least in this series with Bobby Mercer playing against right handed pitching.
- 21:56Swing and a miss by Vail.
- 21:59Forts ahead of him nothing and two.
- 22:04Randy lifetime against Chicago is four wins and two defeats.
- 22:10Stretched by the left hander and here's the pitch to Vail line drive right field and a base hit.
- 22:15DeJesus will stop at second base.
- 22:18So the first two Cubs batters are on.
- 22:21Makes you want to go down there and grab a bat.
- 22:24Never seen so many hard hit balls so early.
- 22:28And you can't really blame the win for these couple by the Cubs here they have been.
- 22:33Low liners well within the field of play.
- 22:36Left handed batting Bill Buckner coming to the plate he's hitting a 2-46.
- 22:41Comes at first and second nobody out.
- 22:47The stretch by Randy and now time is called he makes the delivery and it was a curve ball but time had been called Randy didn't see it.
- 22:55Billy's infield playing a double play dip.
- 23:01Last game on this road trip for the police and they'll come back a winner no matter what happens here today.
- 23:07They are a 9 and 4 on this trip right now and off to a 7 nothing start in this one.
- 23:14Now we're ready here's the set by Lurch and the pitch on the way outside.
- 23:20One ball to count the bill Buckner.
- 23:23Comes remain at home they'll be hosting the Pittsburgh Pirates next beginning tomorrow afternoon.
- 23:35The one nothing pitch to Buckner fastball high 2 and 0.
- 23:44Time call as Pete Rose comes over to have a word with the young pitcher tomorrow night at Veterans Stadium.
- 23:49You'll want to welcome the Phillies back from this sensational road trip and Dick Ruthven who is undefeated this year and has not pitched in a losing ball game will work for the Phillies against left hander Ross Grimsley who is 3 and 2.
- 24:02Rufus has pitched eight times has won six of them got two no decisions but the Phillies won both those games.
- 24:10The two nothing pitch to Buckner in for a called strike at the knees.
- 24:16Buckner leads the Cubs in triples he's already gotten three of them.
- 24:27Two balls and a strike on Buckner here's Lurch's delivery line drive into right field thinking and falling for a base hit being waved around to say hey to his evil star and the totally cut the seven to one.
- 24:40The broken bad liner to right field by Buckner and the Cubs have had three straight hits but for station identification the Phillies baseball network.
- 24:52You're listening to a Phillies radio the spirit of New Jersey 1350 WH WH Princeton.
- 25:02Buckner with his 15th run batted in and here's a guy you got to be careful of big Dave Kingman he has seen what happened here today.
- 25:10I'm betting at 279 breaking ball the Kingman is low ball one.
- 25:16He has nine home runs and 44 runs batted in both figures leading Chicago.
- 25:23Runners at first and second nobody out.
- 25:33Stretched by Lurch in the pitch to Kingman.
- 25:48And still nobody out.
- 25:56Almost hit the building across the street over and waiver over Waverly Avenue and pitching coach Herms Gerrard is coming to the mound and Randy Lurch has to be a little shaken up.
- 26:09Four runs still nobody out. Well that shot wasn't just a home run that was a typical King Kong shot a real mooner that just failed off his bat in a mighty arc toward left field.
- 26:25And even on a normal day there would be no doubt about whether that one was going to leave here.
- 26:29Number 10 for Kingman who now has 27 runs batted in.
- 26:38Seven to four Phillies and the batter is Steve on a various and as Rich mentioned nobody out.
- 26:44Pitch on the way to the switch hitter batting right handed is low ball one on a various leads the Cubs and hits with 36.
- 26:51He carries a 313 average.
- 26:54Lurch's next delivery is a squibber toward first field and on a good hop by Rose and he runs to the back for the out. That was a tough play for Rose because that ball was hit hard and was slicing away from him toward the line but Pete made the play and that's out number one.
- 27:12Next up Jerry Martin Jerry three for seven in the series against his former teammates and batting 276.
- 27:21We have had four home runs in the first inning of his ballgame three by the Phillies and the mighty shot by Dave Kingman fastball to Martin low and outside ball one Jerry leads the Cubs and doubles with nine.
- 27:38This has got to be one of those days where no lead will be safe.
- 27:44The one nothing to Martin the fastball low to an old the ex Philly connection again lined up consecutively today Jerry Martin Barry put in Ted Sizemore as the number six seven and eight hitters in Herman Frank's lineup.
- 28:01The two pitch to Martin over for a strike.
- 28:10Jerry's been hitting the ball well he was talking about a couple of shots that he had at Cincinnati recently that founded off the fence out there and came back into play.
- 28:19Here's a line drive into the alley and right center field a base hit and more Martin will have extra bases McBride chasing it down Jerry posting into second with a double Martin gaps the ball in right center.
- 28:33And that's the first hit of the first inning for Chicago with one out.
- 28:39And he gets the married men off the field today.
- 28:45There aren't there only cheap hit in this game as Bill Buccaneers he had the bat thought off right in his hands but outside of that everything has been hit hard stalling I think for time Bob Boone is out talking to Lurch and usually
- 29:06he's got a couple of hits that they want to stall a little bit.
- 29:13Doug Byrd has been up and throwing in the Phillies bullpen and here comes Danny Ozark out of the dugout and that means that Randy Lurch who has hit a home run in this ballgame and it was sent to the mound with a seven nothing start is going to leave the ballgame here in
- 29:32Chicago and he cannot win Lurch just looks the ball to Ozark no conversation between the two at all and both teams have had to change pitchers in the first inning of play with only one man out in either case.
- 29:45It's amazing but that's the way the story has gone here in Chicago today.
- 29:49Another pitching change with the Phillies leading this game seven to four will be back in just a moment.
- 29:54You can take the first step in entering or returning to college by picking up your phone and dialing 876-5551.

- 31:19Right hander Doug Byrd takes over the hill for the Phillies with one down in the inning.
- 31:32Jerry Martin is at second base and there's only one out. The Phillies lead this game 7 to 4.
- 31:37Barry Foote is at the plate. Byrd has no one in loss record this year.
- 31:41His earned run average is 6.43. He is appearing in his ninth game.
- 31:46Right hander Doug Byrd acquired from Kansas City. His first pitch is in for a called strike.
- 31:52Court is batting at 193. Barry has had two hits in the series, a grand slam home run and a double.
- 32:02Byrd checks Martin. Here's the pitch. Breaking ball is outside. One ball and one strike.
- 32:10Both starting pitchers in this game, Dennis Lamp and Randy Lurch, removed after a half, excuse me, one third inning of pitching.
- 32:18Here's a little fly ball into right center field getting over his McBride and he catches it for the out.
- 32:25Barry Foote hits that ball into right center field. McBride over to his right to make the catch on the run for out number two.
- 32:37Here's Ted Sizemore. Sizemore is still looking for his first hit in the series.
- 32:41Ted is 0 for 6 in the first two games and he's batting at 263. Martin at second, two out.
- 32:55Kind of unusual when you hit a home run of the ball game but are not able to survive the first inning but that's the story for Randy Lurch today.
- 33:03Here's Byrd's delivery to Sizemore and it's low ball one.
- 33:08Lurch charged with five hits and four runs and of course he's responsible for Martin at second base.
- 33:14Billy's lead at seven to four, first inning.
- 33:17Sizemore sends a line drive into left center field a base hit. Martin being waved around.
- 33:23The Cubs have scored run number five.
- 33:28Sizemore with his first hit of the series and his ninth run bat of it.
- 33:37Well there have been 12 runs and 13 hits in the first inning.
- 33:41When's the last time you ever saw that?
- 33:44Can't remember Whitey.
- 33:46But if I ever did see it before it must have been here at Wrigley Field.
- 33:51So the Cubs have batted around in the first inning and here's Donnie Moore at the plate and the first pitch over to him is a strike.
- 34:04Here is a line drive into right center field a real gapper.
- 34:08Forrest Ball is going to roll all the way to the wall.
- 34:11Sizemore being waved around. He was four.
- 34:14Moore is heading for third base. The relay gets away.
- 34:18Moore goes halfway down the line but then holds on.
- 34:21The Cubs have just scored run number six. It's a seven-six ball game.
- 34:26And the Phillies got a break there. That ball headed towards the Cubs dug out.
- 34:30They had a little cement wall right before it rolled into the dugout.
- 34:34Had it gone in there Moore would have scored.
- 34:37Unbelievable.
- 34:45Donnie Moore who was 0-4 as he stood at the plate gets his first hit of the year.
- 34:51A triple and the Cubs are right back in this ball game.
- 34:55It is seven to six Phillies.
- 34:57And we still only have two out in the Chicago first inning and their tenth man is coming to the plate.
- 35:04Phillies batted ten men in the top half of this inning.
- 35:09Evon DeJesus who single and scored in his first at bat.
- 35:14Donnie Moore at third base. He is there without a warm-up jacket.
- 35:18Stretched by Bird and the pitch to DeJesus over at the letters of strike.
- 35:25Seven hits for each team.
- 35:27Phillies lead the game seven to six.
- 35:30Next pitch today DeJesus, a called strike. Nothing in two.
- 35:36Lurch charged with five of these Chicago runs. The last one is charged to Bird.
- 35:41The two-strike pitch today DeJesus.
- 35:43A pop-up into shallow right field.
- 35:45Blake McBride started in now sharply to his right. He stays with it for the out.
- 35:50Blake made that a tough play or maybe the wind did but he stayed with it.
- 35:55And listen to these Chicago fans as the Cubs down seven and nothing came back to get six runs in the innings.
- 36:00On seven hits and they left one man on base.
- 36:04At the end of one Phillies lead it seven to six.
- 36:11Well we've been talking quite a bit about the Montreal Expos moving into town tomorrow night.
- 36:15But don't forget the St. Louis Cardinals are also headed for Philadelphia.
- 36:19And the Cardinals have a four game win streak right now with a two nothing lead this afternoon over Montreal in the sixth inning.
- 36:24The Cardinals will be in Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night.
- 36:27May 21st, 22nd and 23rd. Game time for all three next week will be 7.35.
- 36:33So come on out and check out the St. Louis Cardinals who are playing good baseball.
- 36:37They might well even be in the second place by that time.
- 36:43We're going to the second inning here in Chicago. A seven to six lead for the Phillies.
- 36:47A remarkable ball game. And here is Larry Bowe to start it.
- 36:50Bowe has doubled in score.
- 36:52Donnie Morris pitched to him as a hard ball down the first baseline.
- 36:55Heeled it there by Buckner. Runs to the back for the out.
- 36:58Larry Bowe grounds out to Buckner on one pitch.
- 37:01One away in the second inning.
- 37:06The batter Pete Rose. Pete won the pitch to the mound in the first inning.
- 37:10And the Cubs were able to get McBride off third base at that time.
- 37:15And it looked as though they might have that first inning under control.
- 37:18But then Schmidt followed with a three run homer.
- 37:21Then there were two singles and a three run homer by Boone.
- 37:24Going outside to Rose ball one.
- 37:26Then after Meoli struck out, Randy Lurch hit a home run.
- 37:30To account for the seventh Phillies run, but Randy is out of the ball game.
- 37:34Rose takes outside two and nothing.
- 37:38Pete leading the Phillies and hits with 44 of them.
- 37:42Reliever more winds and the two nothing to Rose.
- 37:45Low ball three.
- 37:51Barry Foote giving the home plate on fire a little heat on that last call.
- 37:56He thought it was a strike.
- 37:58No we aren't. We're going to see the Major League on fire as it appears possibly on Saturday.
- 38:03Rose takes low ball four.
- 38:05And believe it or not, this is the first walk of the ball game.
- 38:08Everything else has been accomplished on hitting.
- 38:11Pete Rose takes a walk.
- 38:14And here's Mike Schmidt.
- 38:17Mike has already hit three home runs in this series.
- 38:21Mike jokingly promised four on the bus ride in from the airport the other day and he might do it yet.
- 38:28Schmidt with a three run shot and his first at bat.
- 38:32Pitch on the way to Mike.
- 38:34High ball one.
- 38:35Schmidt now has 20 career home runs in this ballpark.
- 38:39He has 30 lifetime home runs against the Cubs and 12 of his 13 this year have been away from Veterans Stadium.
- 38:49The delivery by more foul away by Smith.
- 38:52One ball one strike.
- 38:54He's going for it.
- 38:55Of course the hitters know that it's this kind of a day.
- 38:59They're in a kind of a short ballpark.
- 39:01Short fences and a strong wind blowing out and they can't wait to get up there and swing the bat.
- 39:07Pitchers might see grown men cry out there on that mound today.
- 39:12We've already seen one rule.
- 39:14It's what he wants to get down there and grab a bat.
- 39:18Off road a first base roses back in time.
- 39:21One one the count on Schmidt.
- 39:23Now time is called the three RBI is by Mike.
- 39:27Give him 31 for the year.
- 39:28So he's only one behind the leader George Foster in that category.
- 39:35The one one to Schmidt over for a strike.
- 39:44Not sure I could get one out of here today even with the wind blowing up.
- 39:49I think it's got to be a little harder than that.
- 39:53You might get a gap or though.
- 39:56The stretch by more on the one to Schmidt.
- 39:59He got up under this one and it's a pop up around the middle of the infield.
- 40:03They hate to shading his eyes backing off and taking it to the we have some whirling winds here as we mentioned that it's tough on these pop flies.
- 40:11Freddy has popped out to DeJesus the second out of the inning.
- 40:17Well here's a guy with a six game hitting streak going as the Phil's continue to get good production from their bench.
- 40:22Del Answer single in his first at bat today and Del started the afternoon with a 444 average.
- 40:32Well the Expos have finally scored a run.
- 40:34They got one in the sixth inning at St. Louis.
- 40:36Change up is outside ball one.
- 40:42Cardinals lead the Expos 2 to 1 St. Louis batting last of the sixth.
- 40:50Hunter swings and fouls one back out of play a strike.
- 40:57The Expos went at least twenty three innings without scoring.
- 41:00They lost their last game prior to the series at St. Louis and Dodger Stadium 8 to 2 and I don't know when they last scored in that game but they didn't score in the first twenty three innings at St. Louis.
- 41:10Another change up is just outside.
- 41:13One to answer.
- 41:19A seven to six lead for the Phillies batting in the second inning here at Chicago. Rose at first with two down.
- 41:36The stretch by more pitch on the way to Del.
- 41:39Fly ball in the right field getting a late start as Vail. Now he comes on and he takes it to the out.
- 41:44Hunter flies to Vail. Goes retired in the second. No runs. No hits. One man left on base.
- 41:50We go to the Cubs second inning and it's seven to six Phillies.
- 41:55The Cubs second inning will start with Mike Vail. It'll be Vail, Buckner and Kingman to face reliever Doug Byrd.
- 42:01Pitch on the way. High and inside ball one.
- 42:05Byrd came on in relief of Lurch in the first inning when there was only one out.
- 42:10He gave up two hits and a run and the Cubs trail this game by one at seven to six Philadelphia.
- 42:16Vail takes low ball. Mike single in the first inning and scored.
- 42:22The first four Chicago batters hit safely in their half of the first inning.
- 42:31The two nothing pitch to Vail. Swing and a miss. A strike.
- 42:40In case you joined us a little late you missed some real explosions here today.
- 42:44Four home runs in the first inning. Three by the Phillies.
- 42:51Byrd winds and the two one pitch to Vail. Hard hit ball. Base hit in the hole and Vail has his second hit of the afternoon.
- 42:59Mike Vail leads off the Chicago second with a single in the hole.
- 43:05And now the Cubs have out hit the Phillies eight to seven.
- 43:09Those lead the game seven to six. The batter is Bill Buckner. He got a broken bat single in the first inning.
- 43:14The drive in Chicago's first run.
- 43:21Buckner left handed batter. Stretch in the pitch by Byrd. Catches the outside corner of strike.
- 43:32Well after Carlton three hits the Cubs yesterday you knew there were some hits in their bats.
- 43:38But they have come out here in a hurry. Throw to first base stepping back in time as Vail.
- 43:45He goes in the outfield play Buckner straight away. Infield set for a double play.
- 43:51The pitch to Vail. Breaking ball. Bounce back to middle. And a base hit.
- 43:53The only couldn't get it. Here's Vail rounding second. He'll go to third as Buckner has gotten a hit.
- 44:00Singles by Vail and Buckner starts the Cubs off in the second inning and here comes Dave Kingman.
- 44:08They're just getting that thing high base hit right back through the middle just out of the reach of Rudy Meole.
- 44:16More trouble.
- 44:21Big Don Kingman who hit a moon shot in his first at bat. One of those typical high arc jobs that he hits.
- 44:27Number ten for Kingman.
- 44:30Here's the first and third nobody out to pitch to Kingman. Ground ball to Schmidt. He's got it. Throw over to second for one. Back on the first. A double play.
- 44:38And Vail had to stay at third base. That ball was hit so sharply to Schmidt. He turned a double play and Vail never moved.
- 44:45Give Mike Schmidt a lot of credit there. He caught that ball. It was hit sharply. Had a little time. He caught the ball. He looked Vail back.
- 44:53He throws Vail at third and then completed the quick double play and what surprised me they got Kingman so easy at first. He must not have gotten out of the box very well.
- 45:04So two out and Vail at third base and here is Steve Onoveras, switch hitter batting left handed now and the pitch to him low and inside and a good stop by Boone.
- 45:12Onoveras grounded out sharply to Pete Rose in his first at bat.
- 45:20Next pitch to Onoveras again low and inside. Two nothing. A seven to six lead in the Phillies but don't get cancer about this one. Not yet.
- 45:33Bird from the stretch. Pitch to Onoveras. Swing and a miss at an off speed pitch.
- 45:40Two balls and a strike to Onoveras who leads the Cubs with 36 hits.
- 45:48Swing and a miss by Onoveras. Two balls and two strikes.
- 46:06Bird ready and here's the next delivery. A bouncing ball. First base side fielded by Rose. Just there. Run to the bag in time and the Cubs are retired in the second.
- 46:15They got their first two batters on but they didn't score here in the second. No runs. Two hits and one man left on base.
- 46:21At the end of two the Phillies lead seven to six and now time for a tasty break.
- 46:28It takes top quality players to make a baseball team as good as the Phillies just like it takes top quality ingredients to bake cake as good as tasty cake candy cakes.
- 46:37Quality things like milk, butter, eggs and chocolate. It's the way tasty cake has been baking for 65 years. Try a family pack of chocolate or peanut butter candy cakes.
- 46:46Like everything from tasty cake they're all the good things wrapped up in one.

- 47:34The Phillies and SEPTA have arranged for special bus service to each of the games during the coming Phillies home stand starting tomorrow night.
- 47:41Special round trip bus service will be available beginning 1 hour and 15 minutes before each game at four locations.
- 47:47Maran Hill Road and Ridge Pike and Roxboro, Cheltenham and Oguns Avenue, Percival Boulevard and Welsh Road in the northeast, 77th and City Line Avenue in West Philadelphia.
- 47:56For further details call TA94800. Third inning baseball, here's Harry Callis. Alright thanks Andy. Gary Maddox leads off, punches a fly ball, shallow right, Bale coming hard, can't hold onto it.
- 48:09Maddox on his way to second base with a double. A sliding effort by Mike Bale. He couldn't hang on. It'll be a double for Gary Maddox.
- 48:18His second hit of the ball game, hit number eight for the Phillies. A wild one here at Wrigley. Seven-six Phillies lead, we're in the third.
- 48:28Good hustle there by Maddox. Gary gunning right out of the batter's box and coasted in the second base very easily.
- 48:38Here's Bob Boone, he slammed a three run homer his first time up his second home run of the year.
- 48:48Either starting pitcher survived the first inning, Dennis Lamp or Randy Lurch. Both going one third of an inning.
- 48:59Another pitch on the way to Boone and it's over at the knees for a called strike. Boone not happy with that call by plate umpire Dick Cavanaugh.
- 49:12Boone saying if you're gonna call that on me give it to my pitcher.
- 49:17Second base and nobody out. Donnie Moore stretches and the pitch to Boone a change nubbed into shallow left. Kingman will never get it. Maddox rounding third. Here's Kingman's throw to the plate.
- 49:30Off target, Maddox scores. It gets by Boone or rather by foot and Boone goes up to second base.
- 49:38It'll be a looping single to shallow left and an error on Kingman enabling Boone to move up to second base. Phillies lead it eight to six.
- 49:50And Boone's picked up four RBIs in this game. He didn't hit that one very well. Everything was hit hard in the first inning but the Phillies now put together a couple of looping base hits.
- 50:02Of course the outfielders are playing so deep today you're going to see a few of those drop in. Those short fly balls.
- 50:09Boone at second base with a base hit a run batted in and an error on Dave Kingman and here's Rudy Miole. He was called out on strikes his first time up.
- 50:26More stretches. Pitch to Miole. Fastball a called strike at the knees and Miole does not like that call.
- 50:35Barry Foote was doing a lot of complaining on the pitches in the first couple of innings and maybe it's starting to pay off for him now.
- 50:42Clay Humphreys seems to be giving him some borderline pitches. Some of the low pitches are now being called strikes.
- 50:51Let's pause here for a station identification along the Phillies baseball network.
- 50:56It's a hit. 1350 radio. WHWH the spirit of New Jersey.
- 51:09One strike to count to Rudy Miole.
- 51:14Here's a stretch by Moore and the pitch to Miole. Fastball low for a ball. It's one of one.
- 51:22Donnie Moore out of Lubbock Texas.
- 51:27Lifetime against the Phillies. He's 1-1 and lost one.
- 51:36Ball on the strike to Miole. Boone at second base. Nobody out. A run in. We're in the third inning and the Phillies lead 8-6.
- 51:44Bill's got seven in the first. The Cubs got six.
- 51:48Here's the pitch to Miole. Playing at a high fly ball center field. Jerry Martin is right there waiting.
- 51:54Makes the catch. Boone tagged. Here's Martin's throw. It's a good one. Boone face throw at third with a head first fly.
- 52:03Jerry Martin made a very strong throw from center field. Boone just got under the tag by Onoveros.
- 52:10With a head first fly. So he's at third base. With one out.
- 52:16And that brings on pitcher Doug Byrd.
- 52:20By the slide by Boone.
- 52:23Like a Pete Rose type slide. Head first into the bag and very close play.
- 52:30Byrd's been a bat twice without a hit.
- 52:37By Boone third base and one out.
- 52:44More stretches. Pitch to Byrd. Swing and a nubbing foul off the end of his bat into the Phillies dugout.
- 52:52One strike to Byrd.
- 52:55Byrd does not swing too good a bat. The Cub infield is pulled in. Doug stands well off the plate.
- 53:02Doesn't look to me like he could reach an outside pitch.
- 53:06Or maybe half the plate. Pitch to him. Low for a ball. It's one on one.
- 53:14He'll be murder on that pitch about a foot inside though.
- 53:21Falling a strike to Byrd.
- 53:26One one pitch to him.
- 53:29Blowing away for a ball. It's two and one to Byrd. Boone at third base. One out.
- 53:41Donnie Moore stretches. The two one pitch. Swing and a foul back to the screen. It's two and two.
- 54:00How the stretch by Moore. Two two pitch.
- 54:04A two ball inside at the full count. Three and two to pitcher Doug Byrd. Randy Lurch had a home run in this game on the top of the first.
- 54:12But he did not survive the bottom half. Taken out after one third of an inning.
- 54:19Here's a three two pitch. Inside ball for he walked in.
- 54:25So Donnie Moore walked in second batter. Didn't want to do that. That'll bring on Bake McBride.
- 54:30He is singled and popped up. Oh sir he didn't want to do it. He should have even run a full count on him.
- 54:36He should have thrown the ball in there and give his feelers a chance.
- 54:39And he's in some trouble now with Bake McBride up there.
- 54:45Bake one out of two. Boone at third. Doug Byrd at first base. With one out in the third inning.
- 54:56Cubs are getting their bullpen into activity again. Left hander Willie Hernandez getting up the throw.
- 55:11Donnie Moore stretches. The pitch to McBride way outside ball one.
- 55:28Now the stretch by Moore. And the pitch to Bake. Change fly ball into center field. Not deep. Coming hard. Martin falls in for a base hit.
- 55:39Boone scores Byrd to second. Phillies lead it nine to six. Ball loose to the infield but Buckner finally chases it down.
- 55:49The Phillies in all honesty have not hit a ball hard. Three Texas League singles and as we mentioned earlier the outfielders are playing back so far today.
- 56:00That nobody even came close to catching that ball. But two runs are in. Runners at first and second with one out.
- 56:11Give McBride a run bad at it. It's 15. Phillies now lead it nine to six in the third inning. And here's Larry Boa.
- 56:19Boa has doubled. Scored a run and grounded out. Byrd at second. McBride at first. Moore stretches.
- 56:31And the pitch to Boa. Swing and a line drive. Base hit center field. Byrd will be held at third base as Martin rifles it in and the Phillies have the bases loaded.
- 56:42Boa has sung that ball right up the middle and the Phillies have jammed for Pete Rose with one out.
- 56:51It's hard to believe. 20 hits in this game already. We're in the top of the third. 15 runs scored and possibility here to get another hand full.
- 57:06Here's Pete Rose. He is headed to a fielder's choice and walks. Quarter on which made him the all time run scorer in major league history by a switch hitter.
- 57:18Surpassing Mickey Mantle. Cubs are doing a little stalling possibly to give Hernandez time to throw a few more pitches.
- 57:29I don't believe Herman Franks wants to put a left hander in this game but he has one warming up.
- 57:37Bases loaded. Byrd at third. McBride at second. Boa at first for Pete Rose with one out.
- 57:44Donnie Moore wide and the pitch to be a change line shot left center field. It's extra bases.
- 57:51McBride rounding third. The throw in is cut off. Fakes scores. Phillies lead it 11 to 6.
- 57:59Another double for Pete Rose who's tied for the National League leadership now in two bases.
- 58:06And Herman Franks was up on the dugout steps headed towards the pitcher's mound when Rose hit the ball into left center field and looks like that's going to be all for Donnie Moore.
- 58:19This is an unbelievable day to hit the ball needless to say and 21 hits in the game now 12 by the Phillies 9 by the Cubs.
- 58:29Phillies have opened up a five run lead again. That's going to be all for Donnie Moore and left hander Willie Hernandez is getting the not a pitching change for Chicago.
- 58:41The Phillies lead 11 to 6 trying to get some more. We'll be back in a minute.

- 1:00:59Steve Mix of the 76ers, Bill Barber, Paul Holmgren of the Flyers.
- 1:01:04Doug Collins will also be there.
- 1:01:06A lot of the Eagles coach Dick Vermeel, Ron Jaworski, Harold Carmichael, Vince Pappelli.
- 1:01:12The chairman of it is John Bunning.
- 1:01:15The Eagles linebacker very worthy cause that's this coming Sunday at Cooper River Park, Penn Sock in New Jersey.
- 1:01:22Mike Schmidt has been intentionally walked to load the bases with one out here.
- 1:01:27Del Unter is single and flied out to right.
- 1:01:30Willie Hernandez appearing in his ninth game all have been a relief.
- 1:01:33He was supposed to get a start at Houston but then last minute changed by Herman Franks and he didn't start the game.
- 1:01:39His earned run average is 2.81. He has no record.
- 1:01:44Bases loaded one out here is the pitch to Del Unter.
- 1:01:47A breaking ball is in the dirt for a ball.
- 1:01:50Billy's leading this game 11 to 6 were in the third inning.
- 1:01:56Oh a third rose at second Schmidt at first.
- 1:02:00Here's the pitch on the way to Unter. A fastball that's wide for a ball that's two and nothing.
- 1:02:17He will have no strikes to Del Unter.
- 1:02:21Hernandez winds here's the 2-0 pitch. Fastball is sky down the left field foul line.
- 1:02:27Kingman chasing but it's blowing back into the seat and on a play it's two and one to Del Unter.
- 1:02:39Billy's has scored four here in the third inning. Lee this game 11 to 6.
- 1:02:47Still only one out.
- 1:02:54Willie Hernandez looks in for the side from Barry Foote.
- 1:02:59Here's the 2-1 pitch. Fastball top foul off the plate. Two and two to count to Del Unter.
- 1:03:08Gary Mannox who started this third inning with a looping double to right is waiting on deck.
- 1:03:29Here's a wind up by Hernandez the 2-2 pitch.
- 1:03:32A little dribbler down the first base side coming in to score as Boa. Unter's tagged out on the base path.
- 1:03:38And the Phillies now lead it 12 to 6. Give Unter a run batted in.
- 1:03:42A little tap down the first base side. He was tagged out by Bill Buckner but he moved everybody up and drives in a run.
- 1:03:50Boa scoring. Rose to third. Schmidt to second. And that will bring on Gary Mannox.
- 1:03:58Bill's now lead it 12 to 6.
- 1:04:04Mannox is singled and doubled. He's scored a pair of runs.
- 1:04:12Here's a pitch to Gary. Breaking ball hit high in the air to deep left center field.
- 1:04:17Martin a way back. Out of here home run. Gary Mannox a three run shot and it's now 15 to 6 Phillies.
- 1:04:32I tell you that is hard to believe. The wind really helped that ball. Gary hit it at least fair.
- 1:04:39He hit it on the good part of the bat. He got under it but that's all you have to do is get it out there a decent distance and the wind will do the rest.
- 1:04:46That was a windblown job and he'll take it. So Gary's had quite a ball game.
- 1:04:52Three for three single double and Homer he drives in runs number 19, 20 and 21.
- 1:04:58Here's Bob Boone and Boone is hit by a pitch. Boone picks up the ball and throws it out as he's walking down to first base.
- 1:05:07Boone hit by a pitch ball and that'll bring on Rudy Meole.
- 1:05:11I think that was just something that Hernandez had to do to kind of keep his self respect.
- 1:05:19He plunked Boone on the leg I believe it was. It's kind of an eye wash pitch I suppose.
- 1:05:26Gary Mannox home run for a case of tasty cake for him and wife Sandra and son Gary Lee Jr. and Derek and also one for the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Philadelphia.
- 1:05:37Here's Rudy Meole. Pitch to him fastball on the inside corner for a called strike. Rudy has struck out and fly it out.
- 1:05:45Boone at first base. Two out. Eight runs in in the inning. Phillies lead 15 to six.
- 1:05:54Pitch to Meole. A good breaking ball for a called strike and Rudy is down nothing and two.
- 1:06:03Phillies have batted around plus two in the third inning. The Phillies batted around plus one in the first.
- 1:06:11Here's the pitch to Meole. Fastball. I am tight for a ball.
- 1:06:16Foreboard says two and one. I thought he called that second pitch a strike.
- 1:06:21It is two and one. All right.
- 1:06:28Hernandez stretches. Here's the pitch to Meole. Swing and a line drive base hit left field.
- 1:06:35Kingman gets it back into the infield and Meole has his first hit of the ballgame and that'll bring out pitcher Doug Byrd batting for the second time in this inning.
- 1:06:45He walked in his first at bat.
- 1:06:51Phillies have 14 hits in the third inning. 15 runs.
- 1:06:58Here's Byrd. Pitch to him. Fouled off the end of his bat.
- 1:07:04Now the first base done.
- 1:07:07One strike to Doug Byrd.
- 1:07:1615-6 Phillies were in the third.
- 1:07:24Now the stretch by Hernandez.
- 1:07:27And the pitch to Byrd. Fastball low and it's one and one.
- 1:07:31Bob Booth at second. Rudy Meole at first.
- 1:07:35Two outs in the inning.
- 1:07:40Byrd the 13th hitter.
- 1:07:42Bad for the Phillies in this inning. Here's another foul ball off the end of his bat. Fallen two strikes to Doug Byrd.
- 1:07:55Walked by Donnie Moore to Doug Byrd earlier in this inning. Proved very costly.
- 1:08:02Phillies kept an inning alive.
- 1:08:11One-two pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out with a breaking ball.
- 1:08:16So Byrd goes down swinging. The Phillies are down in the third inning.
- 1:08:20But score eight runs.
- 1:08:25Seven hits. One cub error. Two men left.
- 1:08:28We go to the bottom of the third. It's Phillies 15, Chicago 6.
- 1:08:33It's just as important to score high when you buy a car as it is in sports.
- 1:08:37And the all the way team of great guys at Chrysler Plymouth are ready to give you the biggest score you've ever made.
- 1:08:43When it comes to getting the right service, selection, and value.
- 1:08:46And the car that gives you the highest score on the highway.
- 1:08:49Like the newly trimmed down all new Chrysler Newport with a down to earth price.
- 1:08:54When you drive one of the great Chrysler Plymouth cars you score highest of all.
- 1:08:58Come out a winner at Susquehanna Valley White in Sells Grille, Pennsylvania.
- 1:09:03Fact. The greatest damage to your car's engine occurs when it's cold and you start it.
- 1:09:07In fact, 90% of engine wear is starting wear.
- 1:09:10Fact. The black motor oil, arco graphite, protects your engine better than any other leading motor oil.
- 1:09:16Because arco graphite reduces friction better than any other leading motor oil.
- 1:09:20Why? Arco graphite has two lubricants.
- 1:09:23Premium motor oil plus anti-friction graphite that still clings to engine parts long after other oils have drifted away.
- 1:09:30Because of arco graphite, your engine's moving parts are also lubricated with graphite.
- 1:09:34That's why it's a fact that arco graphite gives your engine better protection than any other leading motor oil.
- 1:09:40And it's also a fact that arco graphite is competitively priced with other leading motor oil.
- 1:09:45Arco graphite. It's a fact, not friction.
- 1:09:48Now listen to this. You can get a free oil filter when you buy five quarts of arco graphite motor oil at participating arco service stations.
- 1:09:55So whether you change your own oil or have someone else do it, ask for the free oil filter at participating arco stations.
- 1:10:01Offer good through June 30th.
- 1:10:03Final half of the third inning, Jerry Martin leads off with a Cubs.
- 1:10:10Byrd's pitch to him is a little bit low for a ball.
- 1:10:14Martin has doubled and scored a run.
- 1:10:17Doug Byrd came in on the first inning for Randy Lurch. Pitch on the way is a fastball that's over for a cold strike. It's one-on-one.
- 1:10:33There's a one-one pitch to Jerry Martin. Ground ball hits a deep short club by Larry Boy.
- 1:10:38His throw and Martin is now one down.
- 1:10:41That'll bring on Barry Foote. Foote flied out to right his first time up. Billy scored seven runs in the first inning, eight in the third, in the top half of this inning, and lead this game 15 to six.
- 1:11:02One down in Chicago's third inning.
- 1:11:05Bird winds. Here's the pitch to Foote. Fastball is over for a cold strike.
- 1:11:14Now the Cubs' six runs. Five charged to Randy Lurch, one to Doug Byrd.
- 1:11:21One strike pitch. That pound ball that dropped in low for a ball. It's one-on-one.
- 1:11:27Billy's back home tomorrow night after this long road trip against the Montreal Expos.
- 1:11:32Dick Ruthen, six and oh, will go for the Pills. Ross Grimsley going for Montreal.
- 1:11:38Here's a swing and a miss at a good pound ball by Foote, and he finds himself in the hole. One ball and two strikes.
- 1:11:50Here's the one-two pitch. Fastball grounded sharply to Schmidt. Off his glove, picks it up, throws.
- 1:11:56Oh, got him. Foote does not motor all that well, and Schmidt had time to recover on a sharply hit ground ball.
- 1:12:03Footy is out two down, and that'll bring on Ted Sizemore.
- 1:12:06Sizemore is single to drive in a run. He also scored a run his first time up.
- 1:12:11Two outs and nobody on base.
- 1:12:27Wind up by Byrd. The pitch to Sizemore. Looper into shallow right field. It's going to fall for a hit.
- 1:12:33So Sizemore has his second hit of the ball game, a looping single to right for the Cubs, hit number ten.
- 1:12:41That'll bring on the pitcher, Willie Hernandez.
- 1:12:47Hernandez has not been a Baptist here. This will be his first at bat.
- 1:13:00Lifetime, he's hitting old 59. Pitch to him is a strike called.
- 1:13:04Hernandez has been a Baptist 17 times lifetime in the Major League. One hit.
- 1:13:12Here's a pitch to him on the outside corner for a called strike, and he's quickly down, nothing and two.
- 1:13:19Sizemore first base, two outs.
- 1:13:23Billy's leading 15 to six, bottom of the third. Pitch to Hernandez. He checked his swing on a low inside breaking ball and fell down at the plate.
- 1:13:35He started his swing, checked and fell down in a clump at the plate. One and two to Willie Hernandez.
- 1:13:51One, two pitch to him, swing and a miss. He's got him. Willie Hernandez goes down, swinging.
- 1:13:57First strike out for Bird for the Cubs in the third. No runs, a hit, no errors. One left.
- 1:14:02After three, it's Billy's 15, Chicago's six.
- 1:14:14Want to make a great catch? Then go to Geno's for crispy fish. It's one beautiful fish. White tender fish fillet, fried up light and crispy.
- 1:14:22Bandwitch or platter, Geno's crispy fish always lives up to its name. So go for a winning catch. Go to Geno's for crispy fish.
- 1:14:34So Dominic DeCara, the buyer of the National Buyers Exchange in the Ewing Shopping Center on Parkway Avenue, turned to me and said, tell them all about outdoor living.
- 1:14:41Like they have a three-piece redwood stained umbrella table set with two benches for only $69.97.
- 1:14:47They have folding director's chairs at only $18.63 each. And he asked me to even throw in the fact that they have Phillies Ticketron tickets available as well at the National Buyers Exchange in the Ewing Shopping Center on Parkway Avenue.
- 1:15:00And I turned to Dominic DeCara and I said, don't bother me. I'm listening to the Phillies.
- 1:15:04People are entertaining at home more and whether you're having a get-together or a formal dinner, no party is complete without a stop at Coca-Cola Liquors in Hamilton Square.
- 1:15:14From still and sparkling wines from around the world to a full selection of ice cold imported and domestic beers, Coca-Cola has everything you need.
- 1:15:22They're also a New Jersey lottery claim center featuring Pickett, Pick 4, the weekly lottery, and the New Jersey Derby lottery.
- 1:15:29Plan on a stop at Coca-Cola Liquors on George Dye Road between Nottingham Way and Route 33 in Hamilton Square.
- 1:15:41Meg McBride leads off with a Phillies here in the fourth inning. Hernandez pitched to him a fastball on the inside corner for a called strike.
- 1:15:49Fake is two out of three is twice singles. Wind up by Hernandez, one strike pitch, high for a ball.
- 1:16:02Phillies scored seven in the first inning, eight in the third inning, and lead this game 15 to six.
- 1:16:10Here's the one-one pitch to McBride, a breaking ball and a swing and a miss.
- 1:16:18Ball and two strikes to fake.
- 1:16:22Wind up by Willie Hernandez, one-two pitch, swing and a pop foul.
- 1:16:39It's coming back, foot is giving chase, but it's out of play.
- 1:16:43One and two to McBride.
- 1:16:46Six runs, charge of the starter, Dennis Lamb, Donnie Moore, charged with seven, and Willie Hernandez, two.
- 1:17:01We're only in the fourth inning and it's 15 to six. One-two pitch, playing and a ground ball foul into the Phillies dugout, just out of the grasp of Danny Ozark.
- 1:17:24Ball and two strikes to McBride.
- 1:17:27One-two pitch, sidearm pitch is fouled back to the screen, fake stays alive, a one and two.
- 1:17:37Wind up by Willie Hernandez, one-two pitch, sidearm pass, ball fouled back to the screen again.
- 1:17:55One and two to McBride leading off the Phillies score. One-two pitch to him, a breaking ball, up to center field, Jerry Martin drifting back, he's there near the warning track and makes the catch.
- 1:18:17So McBride is out one down, that'll bring up Larry Boa. Ball is two out of three, his double grab is out and the Phillies scored a fair run.
- 1:18:28Larry batting right against Willie Hernandez.
- 1:18:39Here's the pitch to Boa, high foul down the first base side out of play.
- 1:18:44One strike to Larry Boa.
- 1:18:55Line up by Hernandez, pitch to Boa, swing another foul ball off the end of his pass to the screen and Boa's down, nothing and two.
- 1:19:04Larry has been a much better hitter left-handed than right this year, 322 left-handed, right-handed just 214.
- 1:19:12Here's the two strike pitch, fastball, didn't miss by much. Ball and two strikes to Boa, both foot and Hernandez thought it was there.
- 1:19:30Line up by Hernandez, one-two pitch, swing and a ground ball foul down the third base side.
- 1:19:36Oh, a cracked is bad on the foul ball, we'll get a different one.
- 1:19:42Ball and two strikes to Boa, that's far easier for station identification along the Phillies baseball network.
- 1:19:48After the game, stay tuned for more great entertainment on WHWH 1350 Princeton, the spirit of New Jersey.
- 1:20:05One-two pitch to Boa, ground ball in the hole, a base hit to left field, Larry Boa grounds a single left between Anaveras and DeJesus, that is his third hit of the ball game and for the Phillies hit number 15.
- 1:20:21He'll bring on Pete Rose, Rose is one out of two, is grounded into a fielder's choice, walks and doubles, he's knocked in two runs and scored two.
- 1:20:35Montreal batting in the ninth inning, their last chance against St. Louis, trailing two to one in the ninth.
- 1:20:41Dan Schachttitter against Silvio Martinez, there's the pitch to Rose, fastball is over for a cold strike.
- 1:20:48The American League, Cleveland leads Toronto 6-3 after 6 behind Mike Paxton, Andre Thornton, Dave Rossello and Toby Harrah of all homers for Cleveland.
- 1:21:01Hernandez stretches, the pitch to Pete Rose, a change and a swing and a miss.
- 1:21:08Coming in two to Pete Rose.
- 1:21:10Larry Boa first base, one out fourth inning, Phillies lead 15-6.
- 1:21:16Willie Hernandez stretches and the pitch to Pete is just low for the ball, what thought that pitch was there, it's one ball and two strikes.
- 1:21:46One and two to Rose, Boa first base, one out.
- 1:21:55Now the stretch by Hernandez, steps off the rubber, Boa not taking a big lead at first base.
- 1:22:10Hernandez calls out Barry Foote for a chap.
- 1:22:27And Mike Roark, the pitching coach, also going out.
- 1:22:30What good conference is all about, can't imagine what it is, one ball two strikes count, Foote has been very upset by some calls for the home plate umpire but I don't think we have a conference at the mound because of that.
- 1:22:51Roark comes back to the dugout, ball and two strikes to Pete Rose with Boa at first base.
- 1:23:06Here's a stretch by Hernandez, one two pitch, low in the dirt, it's two and two.
- 1:23:17Now the stretch by Willie Hernandez, two two pitch, swing and a line shot to right center field, extra bases.
- 1:23:38Larry Boa scampering around third, he's being weighed home, Pete Rose at second with a double, the Phillies lead at 16 to 6.
- 1:23:48Rose's second double of the game, he now leads the league in two base hits.
- 1:23:53He did last year with 51 and he has 14 this year.
- 1:23:56He's really hitting a lot of line drives and almost every one of them when they get over the infield they seem to be in the gap, he has that stroke for it and it's like they're going to walk Mike Schmidt once again intentionally.
- 1:24:13Well Schmidt he predicted that he'd hit four home runs in this three game set, they're not going to give him a chance, he hit one his first time up, popped up in his second at bat and this will be the second straight time he will be intentionally walked.
- 1:24:26Putting fell runners at first and second with one down for Dell Hunter.
- 1:24:30Dell Hunter, Kelly's now leading by a score of 16 to 6, we are in the top half of the fourth inning.
- 1:24:44Here's Dell Hunter, Hunter is single, fly to right and grounded out, score to run, he's one out of three.
- 1:25:00Stretch by Willie Hernandez and the pitch breaking ball, it misses low for a ball, foot might have been crossed up by that pitch, he calls time out and goes out to talk to Willie Hernandez.
- 1:25:18He was, there's no doubt about it, he was up there for a fast ball and then had to come down quickly on the curve ball, sometimes the runner on second base will change the signs and sometimes the pitcher forgets about that.
- 1:25:33Here's a stretch by Hernandez and the pitch, fast ball is high for a ball, it's two and nothing to Dell Hunter.
- 1:25:45He goes out in front 16 to 6, it's only the fourth inning.
- 1:25:59Here's the 2-0 pitch, playing a big swing and a foul in and out of the glove of Barry Foote and it's two and one.
- 1:26:07Hunter was trying to get one up into that wind, he really had a big rip at the ball.
- 1:26:17He throws it second, Mike Schmidt at first.
- 1:26:21Hernandez stretches, 2-1 pitch, breaking ball, grounded sharply to second, that might be two to DeJesus, one relay, not in time, DeJesus couldn't dig it out.
- 1:26:31Hunter save the first on a fielder's choice, moving up to third base, T. Rose, fourth to second, Mike Schmidt for out number two in the inning.
- 1:26:42That'll bring on Gary Mattoff, Mattoff's had quite an afternoon, 3 for 3 a single, double and homer.
- 1:26:50He has four three runs and knocked in three runs.
- 1:26:53Hernandez stretches, pitch to Mattoff, breaking ball, he chased it, swing and a miss.
- 1:27:03Mattoff committed himself on a breaking ball that bounced up there, one strike to it.
- 1:27:08Out of pitch to Gary, swagger to drive into a right center field, it's a gap for a drop in for a hit, Rose scores on his way to third base as Hunter Mattoff slides in with a double.
- 1:27:28Gary is 4 for 4 with five runs batted in and the Phillies now lead it 17 to 6.
- 1:27:35Mattoff is hurt though, running out the double and he's, I think he's pulled a muscle.
- 1:27:45Gary up slowly, Tony Taylor is out there and Don Seeger coming up.
- 1:27:54Mattoff coming up after the slide at second base, might have pulled a muscle, certainly old now with Greg Ludzinski out.
- 1:28:03Gary Mattoff who has had four for four this afternoon is just standing on the bag at second base and he's going to be taken out of this ballgame.
- 1:28:22Yes sir, he's had quite a day, he's limping off, I suppose it's at least a slight muscle pull the way he's walking off.
- 1:28:39It appears that it wouldn't be all that bad but it would be a good time to get him out of there with a 17 to 6 lead.
- 1:28:47Greg Gross will come out and pinch run for Gary Maddox who leaves the ballgame 4 for 4, four runs batted in and three runs scored.
- 1:29:02The one through third base, Gross at second base and that'll bring on Babu. Greg Gross will stay in the ballgame and play center field.
- 1:29:17Here's Babu, he'll be intentionally walked the second intentional walk in this inning and the third intentional walk issued by Willie Hernandez, his fourth walk since coming in there.
- 1:29:35They'll load the bases and pitch to Rudy Meole. Willie's lead this game now by a score of 17 to 6, we're in the fourth inning.
- 1:29:48And the bases will be loaded after Boone has served up an intentional walk. Boone is homered, singled, then hit by a pitch ball and walk. Bob is knocked in four runs and scored two.
- 1:30:02Here's Rudy Meole, the Phillies batted around plus one in the first, batted around plus four in the third and Meole is the eighth hitter to come to bat in the fourth.
- 1:30:15The Phillies leading at 17 to 6. Meole's one out of three is singled. Pitch to him, pass ball is low for a ball.
- 1:30:39Now the 1-0 pitch to Rudy is over for a called strike at 1-1. That was your third, Greg Gross at second, Bob Boone at first.
- 1:30:56Here's the 1-1 pitch, playing in a bouncing ball hit softly to short day to size more for the fours on Boone and the Phillies are retired in the fourth inning. On the Phillies add on two more runs in the fourth, three hits.
- 1:31:13No cover, two men left, we go to the bottom half of the fourth inning with a score of 17 to the cup six and now it's time for a tasty break.
- 1:31:22The Phillies have really earned themselves a terrific following. Tasty Cake has too because for 65 years Tasty Cake has been pleasing people with consistently great tasting cake like regular and cream filled coffee cake and the secret to this success is simple.

- 1:32:50Right gross who came in a fifth run for Gary Maddox who might have pulled a muscle on his last hit of double and had to leave the ballgame.
- 1:33:04We'll get a report on Gary as soon as we hear from trainer Don Seeger.
- 1:33:08Gross has come in to play center field for the Phillies. Here's Yvonne DeJesus and he takes a fish low for a ball.
- 1:33:13Hey hey, Seuss is singled and flied out to right field.
- 1:33:20Bottom half of the fourth Phillies lead this game 17 to 6.
- 1:33:25Here's the pitch today, Seuss and it's low, it's 2 to nothing.
- 1:33:29Doug Byrd has been in there since the first inning he came on for Randy Lurch. Lurch charged with five runs and one third of an inning. Byrd has given up one run.
- 1:33:38Hey, Seuss popped a foul back into the upper deck.
- 1:33:402 and 1 to Yvonne DeJesus.
- 1:33:45Tony Salida has done a home run for Montreal in the ninth inning with nobody on his third of the year and that tied that ballgame.
- 1:33:54It's 2-2 to St. Louis.
- 1:33:57Here's the 2-1 fish.
- 1:33:59Old strike fastball up around the letters. It's 2 and 2 to Yvonne DeJesus.
- 1:34:13Wind up by Byrd, the 2-2 pitch. Flag and a miss. Stuck him out with a pound ball. Second strikeout for Doug Byrd.
- 1:34:20One down here in the fourth inning that will bring out Mike Vail. He's 2 for 2 with a couple of singles.
- 1:34:29Phillies got seven runs in the first, eight in the third, two in the top half of this inning and lead 15, or rather 17 to 6.
- 1:34:40The pitch is low to Mike Vail for a ball.
- 1:34:481-0 pitch to Vail, swing and a foul back to the screen. It's one ball, one strike.
- 1:35:06There's the 1-1 pitch to Vail, a check swing foul on the pound ball down the first base side.
- 1:35:12Ball and two strikes to it. Dave Kingman is at a Chicago home run this afternoon. His tenth of the year, Mike Schmidt is in for 13.
- 1:35:23Randy Lurch is first, Bob Boone is second. Gary Maddox is sixth.
- 1:35:291-2 pitch. Line drive, Vail has his third hit of the ball game in the left center field.
- 1:35:42Hunter over to cut it off and Vail will hold it first with a single.
- 1:35:46So Vail is 3 for 3. All of them singles, that's hit number 11 for the Cubs.
- 1:35:53That'll bring up Bill Buckner. He's 2 for 2 with a couple of singles.
- 1:35:57He is driven in the run.
- 1:36:02Mike Vail first, base 1-0.
- 1:36:06Here's the pitch to Buckner, fastball is high for a ball.
- 1:36:10Now the pitch to Buckner is low, ball 2, it's 2 and nothing.
- 1:36:24Here's the pitch to Buckner outside, ball 3, it's 3 and 0.
- 1:36:37Pitchers are up and open for the Chicago Whiteside, Ken Cravey, and for Oakland, Rick Langford.
- 1:36:443-0 pitch to Buckner, it's over for a called strike, it's 3 and 1.
- 1:36:49Mike Vail first, base 1-0. Bottom of the fourth, Billy's lead, 17-6.
- 1:36:57Here's the pitch to Buckner, playing at a high fly ball in the left field.
- 1:37:04Dellinger is there, he waits to make the catch and Buckner is out, that's 2 down.
- 1:37:09That'll bring out Big Dave Kingman, he's plugged a 3-run home run and has grounded into a double play.
- 1:37:15Kingman leads the Cubs and Homers with Danny now has 27 runs out of there.
- 1:37:30The pitch to Kingman, tried to check his playing, committed himself on a pound ball, it's one strike to Dave Kingman.
- 1:37:37Kingman now argues with the plate umpire, Dick Cavanaugh, saying why don't you check with the first base umpire about check-swing.
- 1:37:46Cavanaugh called it himself, he committed himself.
- 1:37:50Plate umpire can call the check-swing if he feels the hitter is taking a full cut.
- 1:37:57He's not certain they can add to a field as one of the base umpires.
- 1:38:01Here's the pitch to Kingman, fastball didn't miss by much, a little bit outside, it's one on one.
- 1:38:13Whitevale first base and 2 out.
- 1:38:16Here's the pitch to Kingman, very high for a ball, over the top of his head, a 2 and 1.
- 1:38:39Here's a stretch by Byrne and the pitch, playing in a foul back for the 3.
- 1:38:432 and 2 to Dave Kingman.
- 1:38:53Doug Byrd gets back on the rubber, Billy's back home tomorrow night against the Montreal Expos.
- 1:38:59Dick Rueb's in going for the bill, 6 and 0 against Ross Brinkley, 8-0-5, start-die.
- 1:39:05Pitch to Kingman, a slider misses outside, it's a full count.
- 1:39:15Whitevale will be moving from first base, with 2 out.
- 1:39:19Pitch to Kingman, playing in a foul straight back.
- 1:39:23Remains 3 and 2 to Dave Kingman.
- 1:39:277.35 on Saturday night.
- 1:39:29It'll be Larry Christensen in his first start against Steve Rogers, that'll be Kodak Cameron.
- 1:39:36I don't think he'll be put on the field from 6.15 to 6.45.
- 1:39:40Take photos of their favorite players.
- 1:39:43Again the 3-2 pitch.
- 1:39:46Playing and there she goes and it's fair, it is way out of here.
- 1:39:50A tremendous home run that hits the folding across the street.
- 1:39:55David's game, second home run of his ball game, is 11th of the year and he strikes that baby.
- 1:40:03The score is now Billy's 17, Chicago 8.
- 1:40:09Did he ever, he had a couple of rips earlier and could have hit it.
- 1:40:14He did hit this one, there's a 3-story building over the left field fence.
- 1:40:17He hit it up there around the 3rd story.
- 1:40:27Oh, the Billy's lead is not denied.
- 1:40:3417 to 8 ball game with the 4th inning out of Arizona.
- 1:40:38The foul went out of court.
- 1:40:41Kingman's knocked in 5 runs with his 2 homers.
- 1:40:44He now has 11 homers in 29 runs.
- 1:40:48That's it and he's got to really...

- 1:41:07We'll return to moments from now.
- 1:41:37Gordon knows that this problem is real.
- 1:41:41If Gordon's humor knows how to feel.
- 1:41:45He needs to know the right way for his existence.
- 1:41:51A very special way to say a different summary.
- 1:41:55A diamond ring that says the Lord is real.
- 1:41:59If Gordon's humor knows how to feel.
- 1:42:03He can help you show how you feel inside the line.
- 1:42:10And we can help you say that there's money.
- 1:42:16If Gordon's humor knows how to feel.

- 1:42:26We're experiencing a momentary problem with our transmission of the Billy's Cubs game.
- 1:42:30We should return to Wrigley Field moments from now.

- 1:45:00We now return to Wrigley Field in Chicago for today's Phillies Cubs game.
- 1:45:04Back at Wrigley Field in Chicago, it is 17-9 the Phillies lead. We move to the fifth inning.
- 1:45:12Here's Richeck.
- 1:45:14Okay Harry, and Greg Lazyski is coming out the bat for Chuck Byrd.
- 1:45:18The goal's first time at bat, since he hurt his leg in San Francisco.
- 1:45:23Facing LeXander Willie Hernandez, the first pitch to Lazyski is inside ball one and Harry Foote is complaining about that pitch.
- 1:45:34So Lazyski trying to get in the act batting 275 as he steps in. It'll be Lazyski, McBride and Coa, the first three batters here in the fifth and a 17-9 game.
- 1:45:45Pitch to the ball is fouled back and he had a cut.
- 1:45:52There have been 26 runs scored on 30 hits in this game.
- 1:46:03We're only in the fifth inning.
- 1:46:05The 1-1 pitch bounces up there too and one to count to Lazyski.
- 1:46:10Though Doug Byrd will leave the game, Todd McGraw is warming up in the bullpen. He'll be the next Phillies pitcher and I guess the manager would almost have to ask for volunteers to get out there today.
- 1:46:22Everybody has been touched up that's been in there.
- 1:46:26Lazyski takes high and outside, three and one to count to the ball.
- 1:46:30Kingman has hit two home runs and if you put them together you might wind up in Milwaukee.
- 1:46:363-1 pitch to Lazyski.
- 1:46:43Fly ball, pull, foul.
- 1:46:47Craig wants to swing, you can tell that.
- 1:46:50It's like he chased a bad pitch there.
- 1:46:53Full count to Lazyski.
- 1:46:55He wants a shot at this win too.
- 1:46:59Blowing hard straight out. 3-2 pitch.
- 1:47:06Check swing, foul ball.
- 1:47:08Hernandez going with a change up on the 3-2 pitch and Lazyski fouled it off.
- 1:47:14Count will stay at 3-2.
- 1:47:17I like scoring in a ball game.
- 1:47:21Really have it here this afternoon in Wrigley Field.
- 1:47:24The 3-2 pitch once more. High outside, ball four.
- 1:47:30Lazyski walks.
- 1:47:35And Bateman-Bride coming on.
- 1:47:39Looks like Nino Espinosa is coming out to run for Lazyski.
- 1:47:44Always hate to see a pitcher pinch around or they get hurt a lot.
- 1:47:49Buddy Schultz now pitching for the Cardinals in the 10th inning. Montreal and St. Louis tied it 2-2 at the top of the 10th.
- 1:48:07Oh, Bateman-Bride is 2 for 4.
- 1:48:10Two runs scored.
- 1:48:13A run batted in.
- 1:48:15Espinosa is running for Lazyski.
- 1:48:17Greg will hope to get into action this weekend against Montreal at Veterans Stadium.
- 1:48:24McBride takes high ball one.
- 1:48:27McBride is playing Montreal starting tomorrow night and Dick Ruppen will be pitching that when Dick is 6-0 on the season.
- 1:48:37Pitch to McBride.
- 1:48:39Ground ball into the outfield.
- 1:48:42That first base hit.
- 1:48:43Espinosa stopping at second base and the Phillies have something going again.
- 1:48:48Runners on first and second, nobody out and this scorecard is un-cyperable.
- 1:48:59If there is such a word, here's Larry Boa up there. Boa's had a good day.
- 1:49:04Two singles and a double. Three runs scored.
- 1:49:08Larry probably over that 300 mark now.
- 1:49:11Nobody out too on Phillies leading 17-9.
- 1:49:17Hernandez out of the stretch checks the runners. A pitch.
- 1:49:22Boa pops one down the right field side. This could be trouble coming on.
- 1:49:27Drops for a base hit. Oh!
- 1:49:29Rolling towards the bullpen.
- 1:49:31Here comes Espinosa around trying to score and he does and the Phillies lead it 18-9.
- 1:49:37Boa into second with a pop fly double. McBride stops at third.
- 1:49:44Unbelievable.
- 1:49:46Still nobody out. Boa getting his fourth base hit again. He'll get a run batted in.
- 1:49:54Runners at second and third. Nobody out.
- 1:49:58Phillies lead it 18-9. Here's Pete Rose.
- 1:50:01Rose is two for three. Two doubles. Three runs batted in. A run scored.
- 1:50:09This is unbelievable.
- 1:50:12The Phillies are hitting them hard. They're dropping in. They're hitting them soft. They're dropping in.
- 1:50:17Boa with a Texas League double. A drop between Sizemore and Mike Vail.
- 1:50:23Close to the chalk and right field. Here's Pete Rose.
- 1:50:26Hernandez will pitch out of a windup. Rose takes a call strike.
- 1:50:33Infield is on the left side. In a little bit.
- 1:50:44One strike pitch outside. One and one to count to Rose.
- 1:50:48This is an unbelievable ballgame. 18-9 Phillies in the top of the fifth.
- 1:50:56Chance to get another handful here. Rose grounds one.
- 1:51:02Shortstop dropped by DeJesus. He drops it again.
- 1:51:07Rose is safe on the air. McBride scores and the Phillies lead it 19-9.
- 1:51:11And there on day DeJesus give Rose a run batted in.
- 1:51:17Boa had to hold it second.
- 1:51:20Let's pause quickly for station identification. This is the Phillies baseball network.
- 1:51:25The front says the UDQ today. The back says I did it. What's it all about?
- 1:51:30It's the famous Dairy Queen t-shirt now available at all participating Dairy Queens.
- 1:51:34Get yours today. All sizes. Only $249.
- 1:51:36Mike Schmidt the batter. Runners at first and second. Still nobody out.
- 1:51:41Hernandez out of the stretch. The pitch. Schmidt takes outside. Ball one.
- 1:51:46Schmidt twice has been intentionally walked. He's popped out and he's hit a free run.
- 1:51:51Homer is officially one for two. Go on. Second. Rose on first. Still nobody out.
- 1:51:57Hernandez. He's got it.
- 1:51:59One and one. The count to Mike Schmidt. 19-9. The Phillies lead. Still nobody out. Two on.
- 1:52:11Only in the fifth inning.
- 1:52:14The one-way run.
- 1:52:17The Phillies lead.
- 1:52:20The Phillies lead.
- 1:52:23The Phillies lead.
- 1:52:25Only in the fifth inning.
- 1:52:29The one-one pitch. Schmidt takes a call strike. One and two to count.
- 1:52:40Both bulls are working.
- 1:52:42Hernandez wants Barry Foote to go through the signs again. I guess it doesn't make much difference what you throw today.
- 1:52:58Phillies have 19 hits.
- 1:53:02The pitch. Ball back.
- 1:53:05Down with hold it. One and two.
- 1:53:08Barry Schwartzer yesterday at the ball game from Huntington Valley.
- 1:53:17And we have Gordon Storholm and his son here today from Sherry Hill, New Jersey.
- 1:53:28Here's the one-two pitch to Mike Schmidt. Outside. Two and two to count.
- 1:53:33Ball is on second. Rose on first.
- 1:53:36Scoreboard looks like a football scoreboard today.
- 1:53:50Hernandez checks the runners. Two-two pitch. Schmidt grounds one hard foul pass third.
- 1:53:59So Mike Schmidt hanging tough on the two-two count.
- 1:54:06Nineteen to nine.
- 1:54:09In the top of the fifth inning.
- 1:54:17It was like a long time ago when the starting pitchers were in here. Dennis Lamp and Randy Lurch. Either one of them got through the first inning.
- 1:54:26Pitch to Schmidt is just inside and a count of three and two on Schmidt.
- 1:54:32Runners probably will be going.
- 1:54:38Full count to Schmidt.
- 1:54:45Schmidt looking for something he can get up in the air.
- 1:54:50Hernandez sets.
- 1:54:55The runners hole. Schmidt grounds it foul. Actually hit it twice on the pitch and on the bounce.
- 1:55:03Runners were not going. They held. Boy and Rose.
- 1:55:07And we start over again.
- 1:55:23Hernandez taking some extra time. And why not? Every time you kill the ball today something bad happens to it.
- 1:55:30He sets. Check the runners. The pitch.
- 1:55:39By and outside. Ball four and the bases are loaded. Nobody out.
- 1:55:44Ball is coming to third. Rose to second. Schmidt to first.
- 1:55:49And down onto the batter pitching coach Mike Rourke out there again.
- 1:55:59Talking to Willie Hernandez. Hernandez facing the left handed hitting Dallons.
- 1:56:07Unsure is officially one for four. With a single or run battered in and a run scored. Bases loaded. Nobody out and the Phillies leading 19 to 9.
- 1:56:19You're in the top of the fifth.
- 1:56:27Infield stays back.
- 1:56:31Hernandez will pitch out of the wind up. First pitch to Dallons. Unsure takes the fastball over for a cold strike.
- 1:56:47Unsure hitting over 400 at the start of the game.
- 1:56:51Pitch to Hunter. Fly ball center field. Jerry Martin is there. Makes the catch. Ball is tagged. He'll score easily. Rose is coming to third and he's fake.
- 1:57:02Rose scores and the Phillies lead it 20 to 9.
- 1:57:07Unbelievable. Pete Rose tagged. Made a good try going into third.
- 1:57:13Unsure will get a run batted in on the sacrifice fly.
- 1:57:21Runners at first and third one down. Greg Gross the batter.
- 1:57:27And the Phillies lead it 20 to 9. Runners at first and third one out.
- 1:57:35Greg Gross in the ball game came in when Maddox hurries Blake running out of double.
- 1:57:43First pitch to Gross. Check swing foul ball. Strike one on Gross.
- 1:57:50Rose the third. Schmidt at first. One out.
- 1:57:56Phillies have 20 runs on 19 hits.
- 1:58:02Here's the one strike pitch.
- 1:58:07Gross fly ball. Deep left field. Kingman going back. Going back to the warning track. Makes the catch in front of the fence.
- 1:58:15Rose tags. Scores and the Phillies lead it 21 to 9.
- 1:58:21As Schmidt tags up at first and goes to second.
- 1:58:25Greg Gross almost had one to the fence.
- 1:58:27But Big Dave Kingman caught it with his back against the wall.
- 1:58:32Gross will get a run batted in on a sacrifice fly.
- 1:58:37This is hard to believe. 21 to 9. We're in the top of the fifth. They're going to walk Bob Boone intentionally.
- 1:58:45Well Herman Franks is still employing baseball strategy here.
- 1:58:52Trailing 21 to 9. He's walking Bob Boone intentionally to get the Rudy Meole.
- 1:59:07Scorecards we have are.
- 1:59:10You just can't make any sense out of them.
- 1:59:15Innings running into innings.
- 1:59:22Boone gets the intentional off. The Phillies have runners at first and second.
- 1:59:28Two outs in the bat of Rudy Meole. He's won for four with a single.
- 1:59:36That leads off second. Boone off first. Boone had a.
- 1:59:40Having a great day. He's been on five straight times to walk hit by a pitch a single and a three run homer with four runs batted in.
- 1:59:51The only takes a called strike.
- 1:59:55Phillies lead 21 to 9. We're in the top of the fifth.
- 1:59:59There's a seven and eight up there a two and a four.
- 2:00:03Cubs have nine runs. They scored six in the first inning.
- 2:00:07Three in the fourth.
- 2:00:11They only take the pitch high in the count as one one.
- 2:00:17Well.
- 2:00:19They only get on Nino Espinosa who came in as a pinch runner.
- 2:00:24Due to bad.
- 2:00:26He may get a swipe at him.
- 2:00:30One one pitch swing in a minute.
- 2:00:33Good pitch by Hernandez in the count of one ball two strikes on the only.
- 2:00:47He started this with a.
- 2:00:50Walk.
- 2:00:52The only take no ball to.
- 2:00:55To and to the count.
- 2:00:57The only count. Phillies lead 21 to 9.
- 2:01:03Top of the fifth inning.
- 2:01:10A lot of runs scored and they'll no doubt be some more.
- 2:01:15To and to the count to me only left handed or left handed.
- 2:01:20The runners lead off.
- 2:01:22Here's the pitch.
- 2:01:24The ball three.
- 2:01:27Count to me only the runners will be going on this pitch.
- 2:01:40We're only in the fifth inning my scorecard is filling over into the six.
- 2:01:49Full count to me only.

- 2:01:55The pitch.
- 2:01:57I've all fallen the basis are loaded.
- 2:02:00The only walk.
- 2:02:03With the third boom the second the only the first and Nino Espinosa who came in as a pinch runner for Lizinsky.
- 2:02:10Will.
- 2:02:11Never know.
- 2:02:25But also their base is loaded to out.
- 2:02:27The.
- 2:02:39But they scored four runs I don't know how many hits there was one error there were three left on.
- 2:02:44Cubs batting in the bottom of the fifth with the score the Phillies 21.

- 2:35:43The batter is Mike Bale.
- 2:36:10Bale's had a good game. First pitch to him.
- 2:36:16He was going for the fences.
- 2:36:20Bale is three for four.
- 2:36:24Three singles and he scores two runs. The infield is back.
- 2:36:28Twenty one sixteen ballgame. The Cubs are trying to get right back in it.
- 2:36:33Here's a foul out of play.
- 2:36:36Two strikes on Mike Bale.
- 2:36:40He scored his third day. He's used to the second.
- 2:36:53The pitch to Bale is low. One and two to count.
- 2:36:55We understand that Gary Maddack has a slight muscle pull in his rib cage. Is that right?
- 2:37:03And he's five. Let's him be too serious.
- 2:37:07Here's the one to pitch. Bale takes it.
- 2:37:12And the counter is two and two. The ball almost got by Bapu.
- 2:37:24Two and two to count to Mike Bale.
- 2:37:34Twenty one to sixteen. The Phillies lead and the Cubs have two on nobody out here in the sixth inning.
- 2:37:45The pitch. Ground ball to the shortstop Boaz. He'll go to first. Bale is out. A run scores and now twenty one to seventeen.
- 2:37:55As DeJay Deuce goes to third base on the ground out.
- 2:37:59Gives Bale a run batted in.
- 2:38:04And the Phillies lead it twenty one to seventeen as Dillard scores and the batter is Bill Butler.
- 2:38:11He's three for four with a grand slam home run.
- 2:38:16He's not getting another run on a single. He's scored a couple.
- 2:38:24Twenty one to seventeen.
- 2:38:29The pitch to Buckner is low and inside ball one.
- 2:38:35Infield is back. DeJay Deuce on third one out.
- 2:38:45Ron Reid out of a wind up.
- 2:38:48The pitch is grounded foul pass first. One and one to count to Buckner.
- 2:39:00We have had thirty nine hits in this game.
- 2:39:08Thirty eight runs.
- 2:39:14Reid taking some extra time ready now with a one one pitch low and inside.
- 2:39:34Ball two and a strike to Buckner. DeJay Deuce leads on third one down. Kingman's due up next. Buckner takes high and outside. Ball three.
- 2:39:58Ball is jumping today. Three one pitch. Pop foul and out of play. Full count to Buckner.
- 2:40:09Well no pitcher has been spared.
- 2:40:21Full count to Buckner. Here's the pitch. Ground ball hits slowly. Short, short. The run's going to Thorpe. Buckner the first is out by about a half a step.
- 2:40:32Good play by Larry Cole. Back of the mound. But it's a twenty one to eighteen game.
- 2:40:39As DeJay Deuce scores, give Buckner a run batted in. The Phillies now lead it twenty one to eighteen. Here's Dave Kingman.
- 2:40:51With two outs and nobody on base.
- 2:41:00Dave Kingman has hit two long home runs. He's knocked in five runs. The pitcher.
- 2:41:10Out of the ballpark. Unbelievable. Way across the street. Oh brother. Now it's twenty one to nineteen. As Dave Kingman has just hit his third home run in a game. Oh boy.
- 2:41:32Dave Kingman hit it across the street. It's twenty one to nineteen. Unbelievable.
- 2:41:44Kingman now has twelve home runs in the season. Here's Steve Hanoveris. He takes a called strike. Hanoveris is one for four with a home run.
- 2:41:58How many home runs is that against the Phillies in this game? Six.
- 2:42:04And it's a record home runs hit by the opposition against the Phillies. Six in one game. Hanoveris swings and misses at a low pitch. Strike two on Hanoveris.
- 2:42:16We're only in the sixth inning. The score is twenty one to nineteen Phillies. The pitch. Ground ball. Bare handed by Reed. Flips to first base. Hanoveris is out. And that will finally end the inning.
- 2:42:32Three runs. Four hits. Nobody left on base. At the end of sixth full inning. The Phillies twenty one to cut nineteen.
- 2:42:48On Sunday when the Phillies play the Montreal Expos all women entering the ballpark will receive a free Phillies coat bag. That's next Sunday. A red and white canvas bag. A Phillies on the side and practical items that all the women should enjoy.
- 2:43:03So come to the vet on Sunday and the Phillies and Montreal Expos will be playing baseball and you can pick up a free canvas coat bag. Game time is one thirty five. Andy Muster's seventh inning and Andy I don't know what to tell you. Hang in there.
- 2:43:19Time for a new scorecard. I'll tell you that. This has been a ball game for a mathematician. No doubt about it. Greg Rose leads off inning number seven for the Phillies. Here's the wind up in the pitch to Greg. It's outside a ball. Bill Caudill who was in yesterday's ball game pitching now for Chicago.
- 2:43:37Rose has driven in a run on a sacrifice fly in his only played appearance. He takes outside ball to Rose Boone and the only the bat for the Phillies in the seventh inning.
- 2:43:50Those are bad hits and every inning in this game except the second strike to gross two and one. Even in the second inning they had a base runner as Pete Rose threw a one out walk. The two one pitch to gross swinging and a miss to and to
- 2:44:10Caudill is the fourth Chicago pitcher of the afternoon. The two starters in this ball game did not get through the first inning. The two to gross pop all third base side it's drifting out of play.
- 2:44:27Richie mentioned that the six home runs by the opposition was a record but the curious thing is that coming into today's game no opponent had hit more than one in a game against the Phillies this year. Rose checks and takes outside.
- 2:44:41We've got a full count. So the Cubs as the opponents today not only blew past that one but they blew on to a record. The three to pitch to gross. Here's a fly ball well hit into left center field. It is deep.
- 2:44:54It is off the fence. Here's gross heading for second base as the ball bounds away. Kaman giving chase. Rose headed for third to throw wide. He's in a triple. It's not over yet.
- 2:45:08Unbelievable hitting ball. That's 21 hits for the Phillies. The Cubs have 20 that's 41 hits. I'll tell you I don't know. We're only in the seventh inning. It's just starting here.
- 2:45:25First triple of the year for Greg gross the X Cubs and the field's leadoff man in the seventh inning at third base with Bob Boone coming up and the Cubs have not found a way to retire Boone all day long. Booney has a three run homer.
- 2:45:40RBI single he was hit by a pitch he was walked twice once intentionally. I've shot by gross which was hit the opposite way. It's a fence about halfway high on the fly. The pitch to Boone is inside the ball.
- 2:46:00The Cubs have brought the infield in. They are trailing 21 19. Booney sends a shot into the alley and right better center field way deep. It is going to roll to the wall.
- 2:46:12Scoring easily is gross. Boone goes into second with a stand up double. It is 22 to 19. Let's pause for station identification. The Phillies baseball network.
- 2:46:22I promise to love on Earth today. I do. Thank you darling. You do it is very cool. Oh D2. Well if you do I do. Thank you. DQ DQ today.
- 2:46:36Bob Boone has just gotten his fifth run back of this ball game and the Phillies trying to build their lead again. Now it's up to three runs.
- 2:46:44Triple double home run. Everybody's getting them. They're dropping in when they don't hit them good. They're dropping in when they hit them good. The batter is Rudy Meole who takes a fastball in for a cold strike.
- 2:47:00We're going to have a heck of a time summing up this one as far as records are concerned all kinds of things being challenged here today outside to be only a ball pretty officially is one for four. He has also drawn a walk.
- 2:47:16On his second base a run in the Phillies have scored in every inning in this game with the exception of the second and the sixth one one pitch to be only on the outside corner right at the knees Rudy thought it was low and he probably thought it was outside to a ball and two strikes to be only nobody out a run in two extra base hits here in the seventh inning.
- 2:47:44Two home runs and five overs by the Phillies.
- 2:47:48That's four over. That's a good part in four by the Phillies.
- 2:47:52Fastball missing outside but there have been ten home runs in this game.
- 2:48:01Two balls and two strikes on left hand at batting Rudy Meole.
- 2:48:06He's got a run on deck.
- 2:48:22Well that's the first out of the inning and here's Ron Reed coming to the plate.
- 2:48:27He's got a run in the game at Veterans Stadium this year with a hit run is one for four big call right handed batter.
- 2:48:36Here's Carlos Fitzgerald strike call.
- 2:48:46He's got a run on the way to read low ball have to go all the way back to the first inning this game to remember that the Phil starting pitcher Randy Lurch hit a home run his first of the year.
- 2:49:00The stretch by Carl the one one to read breaking ball is low two and one and the home run is what Lurch will be talking about after this ballgame because he certainly won't want to talk about his pitching performance he didn't survive the first inning and he gave
- 2:49:13him a run and five hits the two one to read way up high three and one.
- 2:49:23Those on top twenty two to 19 kind of a game that can wreck your pitching staff to they've been running in and out of the bullpen all day both managers.
- 2:49:33The three one pitch to read inside ball for Ron takes a walk three down the first with bonus second one out to walk the pitchers today have really hurt the cup they walked up for it earlier and in a beginning and he certainly didn't want to walk Ron Reed here.
- 2:49:53Get to the top of the batting order coming up.
- 2:49:57And here's Herman Franks emerging slowly from the Chicago dugout the bills that had 22 hits in this ballgame but Chicago pitching has shipped in with the 11 walks and as Herman walks out he is calling the home plate umpire Dick Cavanaugh over I guess
- 2:50:12Herman's planning to make a double change.
- 2:50:14He has Ray Burris out there warming up.
- 2:50:16He'll probably make a pitching change here.
- 2:50:27Of course, first to read and Danny Ozark have been back and forth that mound few times today.
- 2:50:36I think Danny Ozark would love to see Ron Reed try to shut this game down but I tell you you don't have to hit a ball very good today to get it out of here and some good some bad.
- 2:50:51And so the Phillies we do have a pitching change for Chicago with a score the Phillies twenty to the Cubs 19.
- 2:51:00We'll be back after this. Here's a great chance to win a free one week vacation for two with the grand.
- 2:51:11Right hander Ray Burris is the new Chicago pitcher the fifth of the afternoon.
- 2:51:18First word for innings in yesterday's ballgame giving up four hits in a run he struck out three right hander Ray Burris now pitching for Chicago. He has not won or lost the game this year and his earned run average is seven point one one.
- 2:51:34Ray Burris the starter for many years with the Cubs now doing his work in relief.
- 2:51:40Phillies have already scored another run here in the seventh inning to lead at twenty two to 19. Can you imagine if you're just turning on your radio and hearing us play that casually twenty to 19.
- 2:51:52That's the way it is here at Wrigley Field today.
- 2:51:56Make McBride batting for the Phillies with two on and one out. Boone at second he doubled in a run. Boone has not been retired today. Reid at first base he drew a walk.
- 2:52:10Cubs made a double change they have brought Bobby Mercer into play in right field so Burris will bat second and Mercer will bat out of the number eight spot where Bill Carville has been hitting.
- 2:52:24Burris to work out of the stretch motion to make McBride.
- 2:52:27What a take is that three hits in the game. Stretched by the right hander and here's the pitch to big. Pointing and a miss. Burris is 28 years of age from Ida Belle Oklahoma. He has an eight and four lifetime record pitching against Philadelphia.
- 2:52:57Burris has his sign from foot and the one strike pitch to McBride swinging and a miss strike two.
- 2:53:13Dennis Lamp got the start today Mike Kruko unable to pitch because of an injury so they started Lamp. He lasted only a third of an inning.
- 2:53:22It was followed by Donnie Moore, Willie Hernandez, Bill Caudill and now Ray Burris.
- 2:53:30Time call just as Burris goes into the stretch and a baseball is loose behind home plate.
- 2:53:36In the American Lake the White Sox lead Oakland two to nothing there in the last of the fourth inning at Oakland. Ken Kravick pitching against Rick Langford.
- 2:53:45In case you missed it the Montreal St. Louis game ended that suspended game today two to two at the end of ten innings. They're going to finish it June 25th.
- 2:53:56The two strike pitch to McBride in the dirt of ball.
- 2:54:01The Cardinals took a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning of that game but Tony Salida hit a homerun his first of the year to tie it and send it into extra innings and then it had to be suspended.
- 2:54:15Burris ready the one to pitch to McBride in the dirt again two and two.
- 2:54:27At Oakland they've gone to the last of the fifth inning and at Chicago two nothing over the A's.
- 2:54:33American League final Cleveland beat Toronto eight to three. Mike Paxton winning his third. Mark Limongello losing his fifth.
- 2:54:40Swing and a miss McBride strikes out.
- 2:54:44Ray Burris strikes out fake McBride.
- 2:54:48That's the second out of the inning.
- 2:54:52Runners at first and second and here's Larry Boa.
- 2:54:57Larry has five hits in this ball game. He's five out of six.
- 2:55:01Two of his hits were doubles.
- 2:55:09Larry has scored four runs today and has gotten a stolen base.
- 2:55:14Switch hitter batting left handed Burris delivery to him as a bouncer towards second base Dillard grabs it throws over to first in time and the souls are retired in the seventh without further damage but they have picked up a run on two hits and they have left two men on base.
- 2:55:30We go to the Chicago seventh inning and the Phillies lead at twenty two to nineteen.
- 2:55:43Hey maybe you could go for a really great burger right now then go for a Gino's Giant. It's a giant of burgers.
- 2:55:49Big double decker burger piled up just the way you like it with cheese, pickles, lettuce, onions and Gino's gourmet sauce. A Gino's Giant. How about it fans?

- 2:57:10We're going to the last half of the seventh inning at Wrigley Field in Chicago. A very strange and interesting ball game unfolding and it's not one. The Phillies only lead this by three runs and if they prove any point at all is that enough is not enough here today.
- 2:57:25They lead 22 to 19. Here's Jerry Martin to lead it off for Chicago facing Ron Reed. Jerry has two extra base hits including a home run.
- 2:57:35Here's a pop foul off the handle of the bat but it'll go back on the screen behind the plate. Strike on the mark. Jerry doubled in his first at bat. He had a two run homer in the fifth inning and in the fourth inning almost got a home run as he sent
- 2:57:51Gary Maddox to the wall and center fielder. I believe it was Greg Gross in the ball game at that time to the wall and center fielder to bring it in.
- 2:57:59Gary Maddox suffered an injury in this game. A slight strain to a muscle on his side. Not thought to be very serious.
- 2:58:08Next pitch on the way to Martin. Brown ball to ball short. Larry's got it. Throw to first in time and Martin is out.
- 2:58:16Haven't been many times in this ball game when the leadoff hitter hasn't gotten on. Comes with that hits in every single inning. They have failed to score only twice in the second and third.
- 2:58:27Here's Barry foot. He's two for four. Single and a double. And Barry got both of those hits in the same inning the fifth.
- 2:58:37Any number five was the big one for Chicago. That's when the Cubs got seven runs.
- 2:58:43Their second biggest inning was the opener. Six runs.
- 2:58:48Pitch on the way to foot. Swing and a minute to strike. Billy's biggest inning was the third. They got eight. They had scored seven in their first at bat today. What a ball game.
- 2:59:00Three lines. The one strike pitch to foot. Off speed and it's over for a strike called.
- 2:59:06Kingman with three home runs in the ball game has hit the ball three different pitchers. One off Lurch, one off Bird and one off Reed.
- 2:59:15Low and inside. One and two to count on Barry foot.
- 2:59:20Bobby Mercer waiting on deck for his first at bat in this game.
- 2:59:26Footgrounds the ball to Schmidt at third base. He grabs it. Tramble picks it up. Throws to first. Blake.
- 2:59:32Mike who has already been charged with an error in this game will probably get another one.
- 2:59:40Nice getting some in between hops down there and those balls are hit sharply ordinarily.
- 2:59:48You see Mike sucked those up like a vacuum cleaner but it's one of those days.
- 2:59:54You just hold your breath every time a hitter walks up there.
- 2:59:58Britt is charged with his second error of the ball game in his fifth of the year.
- 3:00:05Here's left handed batting Bobby Mercer. Bobby's first trip to the plate. He's hitting it two eighty three four home runs and 14 runs batted in.
- 3:00:16Pitch on the way to Mercer on the outside corner a called strike.
- 3:00:21Mercer started Monday's game and he had a couple of hits in that ball game and he seemed to be developing a pretty good opposite field stroke.
- 3:00:29He had three hits on Monday and only the last one was pulled to right field. Here's a shot at the right and a base hit.
- 3:00:35Bobby Mercer singles the right foot stops at second base.
- 3:00:43That's twenty two hits for the Phillies. Twenty one for the Cubs.
- 3:00:52They're getting Bruce Suter up on the bullpen. I know we'd see him before this series is over. Comes are going to a pinch hitter here.
- 3:01:00Larry Bittner is coming out. Steve Dillard is due the second baseman.
- 3:01:05But the Cubs who trail this game twenty two to nineteen are remarkably enough bringing the tying run to the plate.
- 3:01:11They are. They were twelve runs back at one time in this game.
- 3:01:19The left hand is batting Larry Bittner a two seventy two hitter is coming up making his first appearance in the series.
- 3:01:27There is a tough hitter because he almost always gets a piece of the ball and puts it somewhere.
- 3:01:37Larry Bittner will get a chance here with two on and one out.
- 3:01:46Bittner and Iowa in his eighth year in the major league. He's thirty one years of age.
- 3:01:51A solid line drive hitter who can hit the ball to any field.
- 3:01:57Quoted second base Mercer at first. One man out the stretch by Reid the pitch to Bittner a quiver back to Boa.
- 3:02:04Runs to the five one throw to first a double play. Bittner has rounded into a six three double play and the inning is over.
- 3:02:13Chicago in the seventh. One hit one error one man left on base at the end of seven the Phillies lead at twenty two to nineteen.

- 3:05:13That's the first hit given up by Burris.
- 3:05:20Bill's lead by three twenty two to 19 eighth inning. Pitched to Schmidt. Fastball is over for a called strike.
- 3:05:29One strike to Mike Schmidt.
- 3:05:34Schmitty in a wild game here a few years ago he had four home runs. Here's the one strike pitch called strike on the inside corner. Schmitty not happy with it called he's in the hole nothing and two.
- 3:05:51Rose at first base.
- 3:05:56The stretch by Burris. The two strikes hit playing at a very high five all right field. Bobby Mercer fighting with son.
- 3:06:05Rose will hold on a first base.

- 3:10:49The Phillies lead by three runs 22 to 19. The already set a record for homers against the Phillies in a game by an opponent they have hit six homers including three by Dave Kingman.
- 3:11:11The three came in and the fifth inning. Here's the pitch to Thompson a strike ball on the outside corner at the knee.
- 3:11:20I think if Kingman came up in this thing Harry with a man on or two men on a bliver put him on intentionally today just just walking.
- 3:11:27Here's a chance on the next hitter. Here's a stretch by Reid and the pitch. He missed it. Sam throw to first post five a day.
- 3:11:42Coming into the pinch hitter Scott Thompson. Time has been called as a bullpen ball gets loose where Bruce Souter is warming up.
- 3:12:00This game is evidently in the hands of Ron Reid. Nobody has been throwing in the field bullpen. Three came in on the fifth inning.
- 3:12:14Here's a two strike pitch. Just missed. Didn't miss by much. A little bit outside. It's one and two to Scott Thompson the pinch hitter.
- 3:12:26Bill Buckner waits on that. Here's a stretch by Reid the one to pitch playing in the ground foul down the first base side.
- 3:12:43And it's a one ball two strike count. It's got Thompson Thompson batting three twenty five thirteen for forty with four extra base hits. They have all been doubled.
- 3:12:59Last year he had a good year at Wichita where he hit three twenty six. Pitch to it. Playing in a foul back and out of play. All in two strikes to Thompson.
- 3:13:20Here's a two strike pitch. Thompson pinch hitting for Ray Burritt. One to pitch to him. Just missed outside. It's two and two.
- 3:13:38He's been in. It's been charged with three runs. Here's a two to pitch. Outside ball three a full count to the pinch hitter Scott Thompson.
- 3:14:00Bill's leading by three twenty two to nineteen. Bottom half of the eighth inning. Here's a stretch. Three to pitch. Playing in a drive to deep right field McBride backhand.
- 3:14:13Get it over his head and off the wall. Fake old Scott Thompson to his single with a fine play off the wall. Moving up to third base to see Bondi Haysu. Not a cut that runners at first and third. Nobody out of the eighth will pause for safe identification on the Phil's baseball network.
- 3:14:35You're listening to Philly's radio. The spirit of New Jersey. Thirteen fifty WHW.
- 3:14:44Here's Bill Buckner. Buckner is three for five including a grand slam home run he's up in five runs. Haysu's at third. Scott Thompson at first. Raleigh Eastwood starting to throw in the Philly's bullpen. Nobody out of the eighth inning. Buckner swings and Luke's one in the shallow center.
- 3:15:06It'll fall for a hit. Coming in to score day. Haysu's Thompson is second and it's a twenty two to twenty game. And here comes Big Dave Kingman.
- 3:15:20Well it comes right now. I have more hits than the Phillies. Twenty four to twenty three. I have never in my life seen anything like this. Danny O'Dark has got to the dugout. And of course the big Dave Kingman up there who's already hit three prestigious home runs in this game.
- 3:15:41The last one he hit the third one went further than the first two. Kingman with three homers in the game has knocked in six runs.
- 3:15:52The first and second game and watch the word with Joey Amal Pitano. I don't think they'll have any fun here. I don't see how the Kingman has fun at the board. But for a base hit. Danny O'Dark is at his state.
- 3:16:12A lot of the ball to say to Rod Reade Thompson at second base. First base Bill Buckner. Nobody out Phillies lead at twenty two to twenty.
- 3:16:24The eighth. In trouble here in the eighth from the bell to pitch to Kingman. What a nothing to Kingman.
- 3:16:48Got Thompson at second Bill Buckner at first. What a ballgame this is. Certainly is not over yet.
- 3:17:02Twenty two to twenty Phillies lead. Bill will have to look at Bruce Suter in the ninth.
- 3:17:18He's got nothing. He thought it was there.
- 3:17:32Here's the two old bit. What a cut. Kingman took a bad one. They're not tired here.
- 3:17:49They took a real flight. The family.
- 3:18:05They're going to be doing to the Kingman. The amount of errors. Wait on that.
- 3:18:21The batter is. Here's the stretch in the two to pitch playing in a pop by the center field right. Right there waiting makes the catch.
- 3:18:35The runners will hold the league. Got the big out.
- 3:18:48Which here will that left again three. Great try to protect this lead here at the eighth inning.
- 3:19:05Great. Here is the pitch to honor their staff all over at the knees for a cold strike.
- 3:19:18Two to twenty. The leading bottom half of the eighth inning. Great strategy. One strike. Change ground.
- 3:19:36They have the double play but the only juggle the ball they got the force at second base on Bill Buckner for outnumbered to moving up to third.
- 3:19:48And here's Jerry Mark. I hate to give him another shot at a long ball that was a tailor made double play and the only made a good play on it but he had it and they would have a double play easily but he left the ball drop out of his glove.
- 3:20:07He would never have gotten a chance to swing here. He threw out a five with a double and a home run. The pitch to him ground ball up the middle of the field.
- 3:20:18The twenty two to twenty one ball game of Billy Lee down to one.
- 3:20:23Martin Brown the single center field and unbelievable game of the Phillies laid down to run with one with runners at first and second and two out.
- 3:20:40He's speechless. There's Barry. He's got two hits and five at bat. Two men on base two outs the pitch to him. A lot of play. One strike to foot.
- 3:20:53We have two across here in the eighth trailer by one twenty two to twenty one. But is just mothering home plate. He's trying really trying to jerk the ball. There's a stretch by re one strike pitch fastball inside snap throw to first.
- 3:21:11All in the strike to Barry. Great strategy. One one pitch playing at a high bounding ball.
- 3:21:41I don't believe it.
- 3:21:57Billy's one point this game. 21 to 9. It is now twenty two to twenty two.
- 3:22:12Here's Bobby Mertzer. Mertzer has single and is only at bat.
- 3:22:27Twenty two to twenty two.
- 3:22:48He's going to Bobby Mertzer.
- 3:23:15All of his right to murder.
- 3:23:22He's leading at one point twenty one to nine.
- 3:23:45This game now tied twenty two to twenty two. Unbelievable ballgame. Great strategy.
- 3:23:57This low ball three and one to Bobby Mertzer.
- 3:24:15Three san Goff is playing three one best wing that up the side the fastball crab to Bobby Mertzer並es.

- 3:26:22this game.
- 3:26:23What he's doing at 22.
- 3:26:27Night spinning.
- 3:26:29And a Philly face an old nemesis
- 3:26:31and Bruce Suter.
- 3:26:33Suter appearing in his ninth

- 3:26:57a homer a single a double he's
- 3:26:59walked twice and been hit by a
- 3:27:01pitch ball.
- 3:27:02It's the boo on the outside
- 3:27:04corner for a called strike at
- 3:27:06one of one.
- 3:27:12Here's the one one pitch to
- 3:27:13boo in the dirt ball to
- 3:27:17Suter throwing a foot finger
- 3:27:18fastball low.
- 3:27:21Two and one to Bob Boone.
- 3:27:24Booney wants to play them fired
- 3:27:25it Kevin all day quite a workout
- 3:27:27today to look over that ball.
- 3:27:34Suter has only been beaten one
- 3:27:35to lifetime by the bills he is
- 3:27:37four and one lifetime against
- 3:27:39the bill.
- 3:27:41Quite a string going at one
- 3:27:42point without giving up an earned
- 3:27:43run during his career.
- 3:27:49Here's the two one pitch to boo
- 3:27:51on a bill for a called strike
- 3:27:53and it's two and two.
- 3:28:01Here's the two one pitch to
- 3:28:06balls and two strikes to Bob
- 3:28:08Boone.
- 3:28:09Twenty two twenty two game
- 3:28:11ninth inning.
- 3:28:15Here's the two to pitch playing
- 3:28:17and a punch shot in the center
- 3:28:18field.
- 3:28:19Scott Thompson their makes the
- 3:28:21first pitch to John Rudy Mealy
- 3:28:45Tim McIver is moving to the on
- 3:28:47deck circle.
- 3:28:48Here's the pitch to John Reid
- 3:28:54here's the pitch to Rudy Mealy
- 3:28:57strike at the knees.
- 3:28:58Mealy does not like to call
- 3:29:00pop up foot finger fastball with
- 3:29:02low one strike.
- 3:29:12Here's the pitch to really
- 3:29:14get a ball for a ball it's one
- 3:29:23of one wind up by through the
- 3:29:25one one pitch low for a ball of
- 3:29:28two and one.
- 3:29:32Thirty three two right off the
- 3:29:46Earsh Neil U and out the 3 1
- 3:30:01four Rudy the base runner on the
- 3:30:05only at first base one out and
- 3:30:08Tim McCarver coming out to bat
- 3:30:11Ron Reid.
- 3:30:15Suter in 1977 tied a Cubs club
- 3:30:18record winning save thirty one
- 3:30:20tying the mark previously held
- 3:30:21by Ted Abernathy.
- 3:30:25Great year that year seven and
- 3:30:27three thirty one phase and a one
- 3:30:29three five earn run mark last
- 3:30:30year.
- 3:30:31Jerry had tomorrow problems and
- 3:30:33didn't have quite as good a
- 3:30:34year.
- 3:30:35Batting one eighty five.
- 3:30:38Eastwick gets back up in the
- 3:30:39Phillies bullpen.
- 3:30:41I think this game is tied twenty
- 3:30:43two to twenty two.
- 3:30:46The only first base.
- 3:30:48One out.
- 3:30:50There goes the only swing and a
- 3:30:52man's very foot throw is high
- 3:30:54and Rudy's safe a second base.
- 3:30:56What with a high throw today a
- 3:30:58very good one out.
- 3:31:01Rudy the only has a stolen base
- 3:31:03one strike to Tim McCarver.
- 3:31:10But he made the made the high
- 3:31:12throw.
- 3:31:14Nobody.
- 3:31:15They came in baseball goes far
- 3:31:17much higher than Barry put.
- 3:31:24One strike to McCarver with one
- 3:31:26out the only a second base
- 3:31:27strike to ball again.
- 3:31:29The pitch to ten playing in a
- 3:31:31bouncing foul down the first
- 3:31:32base side it's nothing in the
- 3:31:34two.
- 3:31:38Oh and two to Tim McCarver.
- 3:31:40And hitting for Ron Reid.
- 3:31:45Well this game now the hands of
- 3:31:46Bruce Suter for the Cubs and it
- 3:31:48will be in the hands of Raleigh
- 3:31:50Eastwood for the film.
- 3:31:51And.
- 3:31:58In front of McCarver to strike.
- 3:32:06Here's his stretch to strike
- 3:32:08pitch.
- 3:32:09Have.
- 3:32:10Just a bit high for a ball of
- 3:32:12one and two.
- 3:32:15That home plate umpire was just
- 3:32:17about ready to raise that right
- 3:32:19arm.
- 3:32:19And.
- 3:32:22All in two strikes to Tim
- 3:32:23McCarver.
- 3:32:29Here is the stretch one to pitch
- 3:32:32law within the dirt.
- 3:32:33It's two and two.
- 3:32:36Game approaching the four hour
- 3:32:38mark here at Wrigley Field.
- 3:32:41Billy's with twenty two runs
- 3:32:42twenty three.
- 3:32:43It's got twenty two runs twenty
- 3:32:46six.
- 3:32:46And.
- 3:32:48The.
- 3:32:49Cubs six older still for.
- 3:32:55Here's the stretch.
- 3:32:56Up to two pitch playing in a
- 3:32:58bouncing ball to second base
- 3:32:59fielded by Mike Keller.
- 3:33:01He throws and McCarver is out.
- 3:33:03That's.
- 3:33:04Two down.
- 3:33:05On the plane the only moves up
- 3:33:06to third base and that'll bring
- 3:33:08on Baker McBride.
- 3:33:12Make his three for seven.
- 3:33:14He is single popped up single
- 3:33:16struck out struck out.
- 3:33:20Hard to believe you'd get up to
- 3:33:21back eight times in a nine
- 3:33:22inning game.
- 3:33:25I don't think I've ever seen
- 3:33:26that.
- 3:33:28Nine inning game.
- 3:33:31You know a lot of things here
- 3:33:32today we've never seen before.
- 3:33:35Talking to Lou Boudreaux.
- 3:33:37Broadcast radio for the Cubs.
- 3:33:39He said he's never seen anything
- 3:33:41remotely like this game.
- 3:33:43And sort of a scratch in the
- 3:33:45pitch to McBride.
- 3:33:45He's playing the best.
- 3:33:51The only a third base and two
- 3:33:52out.
- 3:34:03Other stretch by the pitch
- 3:34:05playing in a pop out on a play
- 3:34:07and shooter has McBride and a
- 3:34:08hole no balls and two strikes.
- 3:34:10I think I'm going to to make a
- 3:34:13fine fine bit Lord.
- 3:34:15high-fitting score tied 22-22
- 3:34:30it'll have to be alert sooner when he gets ahead of here he will bounce that
- 3:34:35foot finger fastball up there hoping that they chase it
- 3:34:39here's the two-strikes it's playing in a ground ball cap the second it takes a
- 3:34:45high hop but a great play by Keller-Herdt and McBride is out.
- 3:34:48Philly's go down in the ninth. It took a brutal bounce on Keller-Herdt but a fine
- 3:34:53reaction by McKeller-Herdt saved the run. By Clyde is out, so are the Phils and the
- 3:34:59Knights. No runs, no hits, no errors, one left. We move to the bottom of the ninth, Philly's 22-22.

- 3:36:22adjustable back to help in every fan. Sunday May 27th, a free Philly cap for all
- 3:36:28youngsters 14 or under. Phils play the Cubs at 135.
- 3:36:33Bottom half of the ninth inning, the new pitcher for the Phillies coming in is
- 3:36:37Raleigh Eastwick appearing in his seventh game. Raleigh pitched nine in the third
- 3:36:41and he's given up nine hits, eight runs, four strikeouts, three walks. No wins, no losses, one save, an ERA of eight points.
- 3:36:49Nick Keller coming up for the first time in this game, hitting at 167, he's 2 for 12.
- 3:36:57It'll be Keller, DeJesus, and Scott Thompson. The pitch to Keller, bouncing ball, hits his shortstop.
- 3:37:05Larry Ball has a throw, the low throw dug out by Rose, one down.
- 3:37:10Rocky Rojas arguing that Rose was off the bat. Low throw by Ball, but dug out by Pete Rose, that's one away, and that'll bring out Ivan DeJesus.
- 3:37:21DeJesus is 3 for 5. Single, fly it out, struck out, walked, doubled, and single. He scores four runs.
- 3:37:36Eastwick on here in the ninth inning of a 22 to 22 tie.
- 3:37:41An incredible game at Wrigley Field. Pitch to DeJesus is over for a called strike.
- 3:37:54Wind up by Raleigh in the one strike pitch, playing at a pop foul down the first base side. Rose giving chase near the stand.
- 3:38:02He's got his roof. Makes the catch and fouls around the day. DeJesus is out, that's two down.
- 3:38:08That'll bring out Scott Thompson. Came in the pinch, got a base, didn't stay in the ballgame to play center field.
- 3:38:16Two out to the Cubs tonight.
- 3:38:18Raleigh Eastwick gets one more, we'll go extra inning here at Wrigley Field.
- 3:38:2422 to 22 deadline. We haven't had enough action in these nine innings, might as well play a couple more.
- 3:38:35Here's the pitch. Over for a called strike. One strike to Scott Thompson.
- 3:38:47Wind up by Eastwick, the one strike pitch, playing at a ground ball, hit the shortstop. Oh, it charges and throws and we're going extra inning.
- 3:38:55Scott Thompson grounds out. No runs hit the rear and there's none left.
- 3:39:00We move to the tenth inning with a score, and I'm saying it right, Bill 22, Cubs 22.
- 3:39:10Well, fans, it's that time of the year again when you got your chance to go on the Astrosurf and take pictures of your favorite Bills.
- 3:39:23Kodak, Cameron Ice, Saturday, May 19. Bills and Montreal exposes.
- 3:39:27Coming Saturday, all fans with cameras will be permitted down the field between 6.15 and 6.45.
- 3:39:33Still plan to be there, game time will be 7.35.
- 3:39:36Unbelievable game here at Wrigley Field in Chicago. We're tied 22 to 22.
- 3:39:42We move to the tenth inning and here's Rich Asper.
- 3:39:45Okay, Harry, Larry Bowe will lead it off and Larry has five hits in the game. He's five for seven.
- 3:39:50It'll be Bowe, Rosen, Schmidt, the first three batters against Bruce Souter.
- 3:39:57Bowe is hitting right around the three-twenty mark now. He came into this game hitting 287, but he's five hits.
- 3:40:06Has raised his average considerably.
- 3:40:10Larry Bowe leading off the top of the tenth inning.
- 3:40:16In a game that, well, I'll tell you, it's hard to describe.
- 3:40:24You figure how you got to 22-22, but it's a matter of base hits and a short ballpark with short fences and a strong wind blowing out.
- 3:40:39First pitch to Bowe.
- 3:40:42Low and inside Bowe on Larry faked a bunch.
- 3:40:46Bowe won the count to Larry Bowe.
- 3:40:49We're on drafts and dirt here, of course, in Wrigley Field.
- 3:40:53Bowe is the third baseman coming in closer.
- 3:40:57Bowe takes high and outside ball, too, as he goes up.
- 3:41:02As though he's going to run again. Two and 0 to count to Bowe.
- 3:41:06Souter has a good fast ball, but he's outpitched his quickfinger fast ball, and Bowe takes a called strike.
- 3:41:14Ball two and a strike on Larry Bowe.
- 3:41:20Sub-splay Bowe to get to the opposite field.
- 3:41:23Bowe ground ball to second. Mixed off by Metz-Keller.
- 3:41:27Over to first and Bowe is out. Larry hit it sharply, but he's out of there.
- 3:41:32One down here in the top of the tenth of batter's feet. Rose.
- 3:41:35Rose has had three base hits.
- 3:41:38He's been on base five times, three hits.
- 3:41:41A walk. He got on base on an error.
- 3:41:44He's knocked in four runs in the game.
- 3:41:50He's officially three for six.
- 3:41:54First pitch to him. Check swing and the pitch is high ball one.
- 3:42:0122-22 here in the top of the tenth.

- 3:42:33Ball one strike one to Rose. One out here in the top of the tenth. Nobody on base.
- 3:42:41Shooter getting his sign into the wind up. Rose takes a call strike.
- 3:42:47One to the counter row.
- 3:42:53Wind still blowing straight out.
- 3:43:02One to pitch. Rose top fly left side.
- 3:43:06Dropping quickly. Kingman's coming over. Oh boy.
- 3:43:10Good play by Dave Kingman as he crossed the ball right on the foul line and shallow left field.
- 3:43:15Two down and LePard for station identification on the Phillies baseball network.
- 3:43:23You're listening to the spirit of New Jersey 1350 WHWH Sports Radio.
- 3:43:33Mike Schmidt the batter. Two outs nobody on here in the tenth. Mike is officially one for three with a free run homer and he's walked four times in the game.
- 3:43:42He walked four straight times.
- 3:43:45First pitch to Schmidt. Outside ball one.
- 3:43:50Shooter will pitch to Mike Schmidt very carefully.
- 3:43:57And right back with the next delivery. High ball to Schmidt.
- 3:44:02Schmidt gets on Dell-Untrell with that.
- 3:44:05It's kind of a game of just.
- 3:44:08Destroyed both both ends today.
- 3:44:12But the Cubs have blue shooter in here when they need him.
- 3:44:20And a tie game an extra inning. Two old pitch.
- 3:44:24Schmidt takes a called strike.
- 3:44:35Two and one pitches inside. Three and one to count.

- 3:45:22Three-two pitch. Schmidt long guy left field.
- 3:45:26He's going to leave the ball park.
- 3:45:30And the Phillies lead it twenty-three and twenty-two.
- 3:45:36Oh boy. Mike Schmidt with a second home run of the ball game.
- 3:45:42And that is his fourteenth of the year.
- 3:45:46He leads the National League in that department.
- 3:45:49A big home run by Mike Schmidt. He hit it over the fence.
- 3:45:52Over the bleachers and left center field and the Phillies lead by one.
- 3:45:56Twenty-three to twenty-two.
- 3:45:59And here's Dale Uncher.
- 3:46:09Dale Uncher the batter.
- 3:46:12Uncher has a single.
- 3:46:16And here's a small strike on Uncher.
- 3:46:18Uncher single back in the first inning. He has had a base hit since.
- 3:46:22But he has picked up a couple of RBI.
- 3:46:24He swings and misses. Strike two on Uncher.
- 3:46:27So Mike Schmidt has put the Phillies ahead twenty-three to twenty-two.
- 3:46:31Only the second home run the Phillies have ever hit off through, Suter.
- 3:46:35Richie Hebner hit the other one.
- 3:46:37Uncher swings and misses. Foot drops the ball. Fires the first and Uncher strikes out.

- 3:48:11Buckner, Kinman and Aniveras facing Raleigh Eastwick.
- 3:48:15The twenty-three run scored by the Phillies.
- 3:48:18A size and all time record in nineteen hundred and nineteen twenty-two.
- 3:48:25Phillies scored twenty-three runs and won one of those games and lost one of them.
- 3:48:33Bill Buckner and he's had quite a game.
- 3:48:36He has four hits.
- 3:48:38One of those, a grand slammer.
- 3:48:41Buckner has knocked in seven runs in the game.
- 3:48:46So it's up to Raleigh Eastwick.
- 3:48:50Bill's ahead by one run, bottom of the tenth inning.
- 3:48:55Twenty-three to twenty-two.
- 3:49:01They can mark this day down, May seventeenth.

- 3:49:26Buckner taking some extra time.

- 3:49:37Might be playable.
- 3:49:38Mike Schmidt going back.
- 3:49:39He cannot get it into the cup.

- 3:49:42Schmitt was there but it was over a strike.
- 3:49:47Two strikes on Buckner.
- 3:49:51Lynn McLaughlin right hander heating up in the cup.

- 3:52:32Two young ladies, cantily clad, walking down below us in the back.

- 3:52:49Eastwick's pitch.
- 3:52:51Kingman swings and misses.
- 3:52:53He strikes out on some kind of an off-speed pitch.
- 3:52:57That might be Eastwick's split-finger fast ball.
- 3:53:01Whatever it was, he got a big out.
- 3:53:03So the Cubs have two away.
- 3:53:05Nobody on base.
- 3:53:06And Steve Onover is the batter.
